INTRODUCTION
• 'DANSHTRA' Chikitsa is the sixth branch of Ayurveda which mainly deals with "AGADA"
i.e. the medicine with antipoisoning effects.

• It has ability to counter the toxic effects that arise due to bites from
cobra, scorpion, rodents, and insects, spiders, thereby providing
relief from painful and inflammatory conditions.
• very useful in gastrointestinal conditions, it is suitable in gastro
enteritis, providing relief from abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and
reduces the frequency of watery stools.
• It also helps to improve digestion in case of indigestion and strengthens
the digestive power, as well as helpful in dyspepsia.
• The formulation can be used as anti-inflammatory, analgesic,
antioxidant, antibiotic and also useful in conditions like gastroenteritis
and allergic conditions.

• Dashanga Agada showed promising results in relieving the cardinal signs
and symptoms of scorpion stings especially burning sensation and
inflammation.
• The treatment was found to be cost effective and less risky as
compared to conventional local anesthetic drugs.
• Painful but relatively harmless scorpion stings need to be distinguished
from the potentially lethal envenomations that are produced by few
species.

because of poisoning and cures fever.

ghreya (snuff/ inhalation)
vilepa (external anointing)
dharana (amulet/ holding)
dhumagrahana (smoked/ fumigation)
grhastha (placing in the house).

• Kṣāra (alkali) made from taruna palāśais added with equal quantities of lohitamṛt (gairika) Haridra

• this formulae is stirred while being cooked till the paste begins to stick to the spoon.
• The pills of the size of kola are made and dried in shade.

6.Pancasirisa agada
• हशरीषफलमूलत्वक्पुष्पित्ैाः समैधृििैाःश्रेष्ठाः िञ्चहशरीषोऽयं हिषाणां प्रिरो िधे

• Contents - Phala (fruits) of sirişa,Mula (roots) of sirīṣa,Tvak (bark) of
sirişa ,Puspa (flowers) of sirīṣa,Patra (leaves) of sirişa
• All these five (in equal quantities) are taken along with ghṛta (ghee).
• This is known as Pañcasiriṣa agada and this is best in pacifying all
kinds of visa (poisons).
7. Sanjivani agada

The anjana of this pasifies.

Disorders of eye –patala ,nilika.

• Its application as collyrium instantaneously cures the poison located in the
head.
• This collyrium also cures all types of fever, afflictions by evil spirits and
graha, apasmara, different eye diseases and diseases of the head.
• lepa of this recipe cures ulcers caused by a poisonous arrow, ailments
caused by poisons transmitted through licking and bite or by poisons taken
orally.
• Yoni lepa in case of mudhagarbha
• Dusta pratisyaya – lalata lepa is done .
• This recipe which is an antidote of poisons, it destroys the poison as gaja
destroys the tree is called Gandha Hasti.

Reference (Cs.ci.23.77-82)
• This preparation, containing sixty ingredients, having apratihata prabhava
(infalliable effect) was taught to Vaisravana by Lord Tryambaka.
• During pusya nakṣatra, these ingredients should be triturated with gopitta
(cow's bile) and made into a gutikā (pill).
• This recipe can be used for
• pana (drinking)
• añjana (collyrium)
• pralepa (anointment).
• When consumed regularly along with apt diet,it pacifies -ophthalmic
disorders such as pilla,kanduta,arbuda, timira rätryandha .

• Visa of moola and kanda .
• The person with this recipe cannot be harmfully affected by any of the grahas
(planets), agni (fire), Sastra (weapons ), nrpa (with malevolent intentions) and
caura (thieves).
• Place of storing Mahagandhahasti agada grows into abode of Goddess Laksmi
(Goddess ofwealth).
• A person smeared with paste of this preparation can catch a (poisonous)
sarpa without any fear and can swallow its visa (venom);
• this recipe helps regain life who is at death bed and live a span of life free
from any atanka (ailment).
• In constipation its gudalepa (anal anointing) is advised;
• in mudhagarbha (obstructed labour) its anointing is done in yoni (vaginal)
region; and in murcchä (fainting), it is applied over the lalata (forehead).
For pacifying poisoning,
• it is applied over the instruments such as bheri, mrdanga and played.
• It also applied over chatra (umbrella), dhvajapatākā (flags) and exhibited.
• Its mere presence makes away of –bālagraha , Vetāla ,Raksas.
11.MAHA AGADA

ं चैि सुचूहणििाहि शंगे
हिदध्यान्मधुसंयुिाहि एषोऽगदो िस्न्त हिषं प्रयुक्ाः िािाञ्जिाभ्यञ्जि िस्योगैाः।।
अिायििीयो हिषिेगिन्ता मिागदो िाम मिाप्रभािाः ।SS.K. 5.61-63|
• Contents - trivṛt , viśalyā(aragvadha),madhuka, lavana varga, haridrā ,
daruharidrā,raktā (mañjiṣṭhā), kaṭutrika.
• All these should be powdered finely and mixed with madhu (honey) and
preserved in a śṛnga (horn).
• Phalaśruti
• This agada pacifies all kinds of visa (poisons) when taken as pāna
(drink), añjana (collyrium) and nasya (errhines).
• This Mahā-agada is avārya vīrya (mysterious potency) and destroys
viṣavega (impetuosity of poisons).
• this formulae is having maha-prabhāva (endowed with excellent
effect).
12.Chandanadi yoga

• Contents- manaḥsilä , candana, tamāla ,juice of kesara, tagara, kuştha
,haridra, däruharidrā,śārdula nakha Or vyaghranakha ,twak.
• All the ingredients are triturated with tandulodaka (rice water) and
made into a paste.
• Phalaśruti
• This recipe destroys visa (poison) as Vajri (Lord Indra) destroys asuras
using vagraudha .
13.AJITA AGADA
• हिडंगिाठाहत्फलाजमोदाहिंगूहि िि
ं हत्कटू हि चैि ।। सििश्च िगों लिणाः सुसूक्ष्माः
सहचत्काः क्ौद्रयुिो हिधेयाः । शंगे गिां शंगमयेि चैि प्रर्च्ाहदिाः िक्मुिेहक्िश्च
।।SS.K. 5.63-64|
• Contents -vidanga, vakra (tagara),pāṭhā,citraka,triphala,trikatu , ajamodā
,hingu,lavana varga .
• All the ingredients in equal quantity should be mixed with kṣaudra
(honey) and stored in a śriga (horn) and covered with similar material for
15 days or one paksha
• Phalashruti
• एषोऽगदाः स्थािरजंगमािां जेिा हिषाणामहजिो हिT ISS.K. 5.65|
• This agada (anti-poisonous formulation) pacifies both sthavara (immobile)
and jangama (mobile) visas (poisons); this is known as 'ajita agada'.
14.SURASADI AGADA
• गोहित्तयुिैगुिहटकााः सुरसाग्रस्िहद्वरजिीमधुकक
ु ष्ठैाः । शस्ाऽमृिेि िुल्या
हशरीषिुष्पकाकाण्डकरसैिाि ।।CS.Ci. 23.52|
• Contents- surasă , daruharidrā , granthi , madhuka, haridrā, kustha
• These ingredients are mixed with gopitta (cow's bile) and made into a
pill.
• This is useful like an amṛta (elixir) for person who is near to death .
• Alternatively, this pill may be prepared by mixing surasa and other
drugs with juices of siriṣapuspa and kākāṇḍaka.
15.VISHAVAJRAPATA RASA
• हिशां सटंगञ्च सजाहिकोषं िुत्थं समांशं क
ु रु देिदाल्यााः । रसेि हिष्ट्वा हिषिििािो

• Contents - śuddha tankana, niśā, haridrā, tuttha , jätikoṣa
• Bhavana dravya- devadāli svarasa
• All the ingredients are powdered and triturated with devadāli svarasa for
one day;
• then pills are made and preserved in glass jars.
• Anupāna –nara mutra (human urine)
Phalaśruti
• It revives health in person afflicted with kālarūpīsarpadaṣṭa (fatal snake
bite), mula visa (rootpoisons) and kanda visa (tuber poisons).

    13.AJITA AGADA • हिडंगिाठाहत्फलाजमोदाहिंगूहििि ं हत्कटू हि चैि ।। सििश्च िगों लिणाः सुसूक्ष्माः सहचत्काः क्ौद्रयुिो हिधेयाः । शंगे गिां शंगमयेि चैि प्रर्च्ाहदिाः िक्मुिेहक्िश्च ।।SS.K. 5.63-64| • Contents -vidanga, vakra (tagara),pāṭhā,citraka,triphala,trikatu , ajamodā ,hingu,lavana varga . • All the ingredients in equal quantity should be mixed with kṣaudra (honey) and stored in a śriga (horn) and covered with similar material for 15 days or one paksha • Phalashruti • एषोऽगदाः स्थािरजंगमािां जेिा हिषाणामहजिो हिT ISS.K. 5.65| • This agada (anti-poisonous formulation) pacifies both sthavara (immobile) and jangama (mobile) visas (poisons); this is known as 'ajita agada'.
