Baroque Music
In researching musical eras that have greatly influenced music, there are two that have stood out.
The Baroque Era and Classical Era have generated artists that are well known. Both eras play an
important part of history with artists who have influenced artists of today. In this essay, there will
be a discussion on both types of musicand differences of each. This discussion will also include a
discussion on artists of this era.
Baroque is a musical era that falls between two other important eras in music. These two eras of
music are the Renaissance Era and the Classical Era. This is roughly a period between the 1600s
and 1750. The era of Baroque music was one that showed spectacular progress of knowledge with
scientific discoveries, mathematical advances, and philosophical explorations (Thornburg, 2014).
The music from this era can still be recognized today. Music from the Baroque period is the
earliest European music which we still generally recognize, whether it is the theme from
Masterpiece Theater, the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel s Messiah, or any number of other pieces
(Thornburg, 2014) . Most of the Baroque music of that time was written on demand for specific
occasions by those who thought of themselves as craftsmen instead of artists. In listening to this
style of music, there is a regular, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The name classical is applied to this period because of the art and literature, the keen interest in
and admiration for, and emulation of the classical artistic and literary heritage of Greece and Rome
(Classical Period, 2014) . During this age, people viewed music not only for church and courts, but
also for entertainment. This era was dominated by three composers. They were Franz Joseph
Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig van Beethoven (Classical Period, 2014). The
advances in styles can be heard clearly in the instrumental forms such as the symphony, concerto,
sonata, and in instrumental chamber

Alexander Hamilton Contributions
The final years of his life were riddled with tragedy and pain, his death becoming the most famous
duel in American history. Born between 1755 and 1757 and orphaned at a young age, Alexander
Hamilton climbed the social ranks from a poor immigrant born in the small Caribbean island of
Nevis, to one of the most prominent founding fathers of America. Through several scandals and the
harsh criticisms of his enemies, Hamilton made incredibly important contributions to American
history. He was instrumental in the ratification of the United States Constitution, the establishment
of a national bank, and the formation of a two party system (Federalists and Democratic
Republicans), and was also the first Secretary of Treasury in American history.
One of Hamilton s first friends and mortal enemy, Aaron Burrwas nearly the complete opposite of
him. He was born to a wealthy family from New Jersey in 1756. As intellectually gifted as
Hamilton, he graduated from the College of New Jersey (now known as Princeton) when he was
17. They were good friends for a while, until their friendship was torn apart by their conflicting
political pursuits.
1790: Burr defeats Hamilton s father in law in battle for senate seat.
1796: Burr runs for vice presidency on Jefferson s Democratic Republican ticket. Hamilton begins
public attacks on him. Saw Burr as a dangerous opportunist .
The same year, Hamilton had published a document that almost completely destroyed his political
career. His wife and

Nelson Mandela As A Vocation Leader
Nelson Mandela once stated there is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will
have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the
mountain tops of our desires. This powerful quote was a summary of his life. Nelson was a
liberating activist in South Africa. His purpose as a leader was to end apartheid and advocate
for human rights. On the journey to his purpose, Nelson loved, lived and lost. Nelson fulfilled
his duty as a vocation leader but at the cost of his freedom, family and life. Vocation leadership is
journey, because at the end of your journey, your purpose in life will be revealed. What does it
mean to be a vocation leader? A vocation leader is a leader who has a purpose and a passion to
serve a higher purpose, mostly through experience. Nelson Mandela s purpose was to abolish
apartheid in South Africa. Nelson s family was royalty of Xhosa speaking Thembu Tribe in South
Africa Village of Mvezon. (cite) On July 18, 1918, Nelson was born to Nosekeni Fanny and
Gadla Henry Mphakanyiswa. (cite) Education was at the top of Nelson priorities being the first
in his family to receive a formal education form Clarkbury Boarding Institute, a Methodist
secondary school. When Nelson was 9 years old, his father died and he was adopted by a noble
regent who prepared him for tribal leadership. (cite) Nelson wrote long Walk to Freedom as a
demonstration of his Journey (vocation) and how it led to his purpose.

Essay on Mariachi Music
Mariachi Music
The origins of the word mariachi are not very clear. One theory, that the word came from the
French word for marriage has been totally discounted. Many historians believed that the word
originated when a Frenchman named Maximillian was the emperor of Mexico. Evidence of the
usage of the word dates back much earlier than the arrival of Europeans, so the word had to come
from somewhere else. Another theory states that the origin came from the name of the wood used
to make the guitars or platforms on which the musicians performed. The most recent theory,
however, dates the word back to the early 1500 s to the Coca Indian word for a musician (Ruiz,
2002). Today, the term mariachi refers to the musicians who play... Show more content on

The popularity of mariachi music continued to grow, and the populist president LГЎzaro
CГЎrdenas, elected in 1934, further boosted their popularity with the Mexican elite (Sharp, 2004).
As more and more Mexicans came across the border to the U.S., they brought their traditions and
culture with them. Mariachi was now a part of this culture all across Mexico. Mariachi music
could be found in cafes and public squares all across the Southwest by the 1950 s. Today, it can
still be heard in public venues in the Southwest, and it can also be heard at festivals and concerts
all across the country. When Linda Ronstadt released an album of mariachi music in 1988, the
genre reached nationwide popularity (Sharp, 2004).
Throughout its history, the mariachi and their music could be found just about anywhere in
Mexico. In the early days, the mariachi were roving musicians with no musical training. Mariachi
bands were made up primarily of men. Most of them couldn t read music, but the groups were very
skilled at blending their musical talents together. Before the revolution, they played for hire in
haciendas, and afterwards they played in public squares and cafes for tips, in some haciendas, and
were hired for celebrations and parties (Sharp, 2004).
Today, mariachi music can be found all over Mexico and the U.S., though its popularity in this
country is more limited to the Southwest. The musicians of today s mariachi ensembles are highly
skilled, well trained men

Essay on The Beginning of Hip Hop Culture and B-Boy Battling
Music screeching through the room, crowds going wild, and anticipation growing inside while
holding a b boy stance in the South Bronx. A young boy holds his ground as his peers dance to
the music, but as the break segment of the song awakens, the young boy rushes to the middle of
the dance floor. As few people know, this is established the start of a worldwide phenomenon and
lifestyle. Hip hop is a misunderstood culture that has been driven out from its roots by media and
the new generation. Society knows little behind the birth of hip hop, but as for the dance portion of
hip hop, b boyingis the true art form. Clive Kool Herc Campbell, an African American DJ known
to hip hop pioneers as the father of hip hop, gave the name b boyto $$#Break#$$ Stretching is vital
for a b boy or a b girl as well, and even for the simplest moves, not stretching could cause you to
injure a party of your body. It also gives more of the opportunity to create something new and
original. Training is essential to perfect moves and to create something your own, even if all that
training makes you feel that it can only workout the body. Listening to music trains the mind
much more than providing a clean set or combination. Mood and attitude affect the way a dancer
dances, and since hip hop is so raw and clean, b boys and b girls train in a matter to be raw and
clean versus being so plain with their ideas. The mind works just as hard as the body to create
what to do in a split second. Endurance is surely there, especially in the moment of a battle. The
competitive nature of hip hop can be somewhat violent at times, but only because it reflects what
street dancers go through and do everyday just to be on top of the cliff. A battle can get mean;
you can get your opponent so humiliating that they will want to fight you (Swift, Ken. The Vibe
History of Hip Hop 55). To any b boy the battle is the very test in your abilities as a dancer.
Competition, of course, is an

The Effects Of Depression And Its Effects On People With...
In today s day and age, there are many things that can effect a person s personality and mood.
Relationships, careers, personal life, all those things are adversely effecting everyone.
Sometimes, these things can effect someone negatively and emotionally. The death of a loved
one, for example, could affect someone and cause them to feel grief. If not handled with
correctly, that grief could cause a person to sink into depression, until they would require outside
help to overcome it. Depression is a serious mental illness that effects day to day activities and
one s personal life, and serious matters need to be taken before it goes too far. Unfortunately,
experts today are more inclined to prescribe a pill to help people with depression, rather than
recommending psychotherapy, which has been proven for decades to help many individuals with
psychological problems. By now, it has gotten to a point in where drugs aren t even always being
prescribed for their intended use. Over half of the antidepressants prescribed to Americans in 2005
were for uses other than depression, which can greatly increase the already high risks to taking
psychiatric drugs (King 2012).
Antidepressants have been used for many decades and are often considered a miracle cure until a
complication arises. An antidepressant is used to treat mild to severe depression in most patients,
although many doctors prescribe it for other problems, such as eating disorders, obsessive
compulsive disorder, and other

The different types of religious groups bring this sense of collaboration with all of their own

certain types of religions take their own practice which is one of the main themes involved here.
I got the sense that after reading it all that some type of an illusion was taking place. Control was
the ongoing internal conflict that separated and brought together certain types of people. It was
this specific narrative that also gauged my own interest in reading the entire poem. There were
so many perspectives involved in the main plot that it made it easy for the audience to read into
all sorts of themes and motifs like for instance with the Christians and Cordobans. So many
subtle details involved that kept interest into reading the rest. The aspect of language as well
was one of those main themes that played out in the end to be crucial and lead us to think about
what that religious conquest was all about in the end. It is evident all the varying aspects of
religion taking place and there ties with the main plot. It is important to note each one has its own
separate significance. I would recommend this book for people who enjoy reading into specific

Speech On Garage Sale
A garage sale or also known as yard sale, moving sale or tag sale is commonly done whenever
you need to get rid of some things like doing a spring cleaning . The most common items sold in
a garage tale are unwanted furnitures, toys, books, games and even clothes. It is advisable to sell
things that are still in good condition because they have a better chance to be bought. Having a
yard sale does not really require any business permit or tax since it is just what people do to earn a
little bit of money out of the things they have. The sellers normally display their unwanted stuffs in
their garage/yard, hence the name. If you are thinking of putting up a garage salethen here are some
tips and tricks you can do.

But of course before you do a garage sale, you must first declutter you house and look for the
things that you can actually sell just like furnitures that you no longer want, clothes you don t wear
anymore, toys that have been stocked in the attic and many more. Another reason why people do a
garage sale is because they are moving. They don t want their old stuff anymore so instead of
moving it with them they just sell it.
#3 DECENT PRICING AND PROMOS
if you want a lot of people to go check out your garage sale, you must always make sure that the
things you are selling comes in a decent price. For example, you are selling your old leather
couch that has a few holes on it, don t sell it for more than $100 because that is just ridiculous
and surely no one will get that. Also don t sell with the same price you bought it. People would
expect you to sell things under $50 since it is a garage sale after all so technically everything that
is being sold there are already used.

conduct business. Gaining operational efficiencies can provide a competitive advantage. These
advantages can manifest themselves in the form of growing market share, improved customer
experiences and cost control. This channel of e commerce can envelope the entire value chain
network. Leveraging this capability, across the value network, supports both vertically and
horizontally integrated businesses. Integrating e commerce has become the new norm to conduct
business.
This analysis will compare and contrast how a vertically integrated company such as Fresenius

The First Camper With A Years Old Girl With Cerebral Palsy
The first camper paired with me was Sarah a fourteen year old girl with cerebral palsy. Although
she was bound to a wheelchair, she was as boy crazy as any fourteen year old girl. Because we were
the same age, we bonded over several things, especially our love for Justin Bieber and One
Direction. Our friendship did not start as a normal friendship would since I assisted her in all daily
activities, but it was a friendship built on love and appreciation of one another.
During the same year, I met Devon. She had Down Syndrome, but she did not let this disability
stop her. She brought a positive attitude to all activities. Often, she would come up behind me and
tickle me; if I laughed, Devon would laugh. On rainy days or before rest hour, she became Rainbow
Dash and rapped in the cabin about anything and everything. My favorite side of Devon is the
tomboy that came out during outdoor games. Although her mental disability inhibited her physical,
it did not stop her trash talking her opponents.
My most recent camper is Lizzie. Lizzie had a developmental disability; although she was thirteen,
she had the mental capacity of a four year old. Sometimes, Lizzie had a hard time verbalizing
what she wanted and became aggravated with her attendants for not understanding. The
volunteers knew what would always cheer her up: her slinky. Lizzie asked me countless times a
day if we could go to Cracker Barrel just to buy a small purple slinky. Lizzie was happy as long as

People Are Not Good At Heart Essay
People are not truly good at heart
In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. These words were
spoken by Anne Frank. She wrote these words in her diary in the attic of her father s business.
She was hiding from the Nazi s, and hid among several other people in a confined area. Anne
thought that everyone was truly good hearted. She sadly died in a concentration camp about a
year later. The truth is people are not good at heart. People are selfish, they are in charge of their
actions so they know if something is wrong or right, and there is too many horrible things in the
world to outweigh all of the admirable aspects of life. Nonetheless not everyone is good natured. ...

humans allow, is clear evidence of the depravity, greed, selfishness, meanness, cruelty, evil in us.

Maxim Kills Rebecca
Rebecca has been a popular gothic romance novel. The plot is traditional: A young woman, the
protagonist, ends up in a foreign setting, and must win the heart of a striking man while piecing
together a mystery. Also, typically in gothic fashion, the weather will mirror the characters moods.
An example of this is when Maxim kills Rebecca the same night of a terrible storm.
This novel of suspense had two twists to it, which makes it a very well thought out story. The
story begins in Manderley and sets an foreboding atmosphere, which is typical for gothic fashion
literature. This is laid out before the flashback in the novel. Here, we begin to perceive a taste of
how sinister and supernatural the atmosphere of Manderley is, once the flashbacks of the trip to
Monte Carlo pass. The apparition of Rebecca and her living servant Mrs. Danvers try to ruin the

The marble bust is 22 inches high created ca. A.D. 150 175 and is displayed at the Metropolitan

The piece portrays a middle aged man with his head slightly turned to the right. He appears to be
looking straight ahead. It conveys an impression of intense concentration one can assume the sitter
was a contemporary man in the guise of a thinker. His face is carefully modeled with wide furrows
cut into the low forehead to intensify his expression.
The piece was made out of marble using a hammer and a set of chisels. As with Greek sculpture, the
Romans worked stone, precious metals, glass and terracotta but favored bronze and marble above
all else for their finest work. Over the years the bust has many rough spots and a few chips.

Pericles Acropolis Speech
The ruler of Athens, Pericles (495 429 BCE) convinced the Athenians to rebuild the Acropolis
instead of leaving it in ruin as a reminder of the price of war. (Sayre 58) From the rebuilding of
Acropolis came the Golden Age. Pericles thought that by rebuilding the Acropolis, it could stand as
a memorial to the Persian War and to Athena, the patron of the Athenian people. Phidias was a
sculptor whom Periclesplaced in charge of the sculptural program for the new buildings of
Acropolis. Pericles very much wanted Athens to be the leading example for Greece. He was very
proud of the men who had fallen in their battles of the Peloponnesian War, even writing a speech

Eliot And His Problems In Shakespeare s Hamlet And His...
Eliot and His Problems
Among the twenty essays published by T.S Eliot in The Sacred Wood: Essays on Poetry and
Criticism , one cannot help but notice the provocatively titled critique of Shakespeare s play
Hamlet, Hamlet and His Problems . In his essay, Eliot argues that Hamlet is an artistic failure
(Eliot 1). Again, he bluntly states that one is to come to the irrefragable (Eliot 2) conclusion that
Shakespeare tackled a problem which proved too much for him (Eliot 4). Upon closer examination
of the play in question, one is to quickly find that Eliot s provoking thesis has no root in logic and
common sense. In fact, it is evident the title character s delayed revenge is validly explained in the
protagonist s characterisation; pathos is achieved throughout the play and that the emotion elicited
by the dramatist in the main character was expertly illustrated in the text contrary to the author s
expressed opinion.
To begin, Eliot argues that Shakespeare s Hamletis a non complete alteration of previous revenge
plays such as The Spanish Tragedy. For instance, he states that in the Shakespearean edition, the
theme of revenge is unexplained on grounds of necessity or expediency (Eliot 2). Again, he adds
that it is overtaken by a motive which is more important. Firstly, the author s argument is
incomplete as he fails to mention and argue the other motive which overtakes that of revenge. Also,
one is to come to the logical conclusion that the delay in revenge by Hamlet is

What Has Changed The Role Of Education In The 1920 s
Between 1870 to 1988, there has been a significant change in education which has affected the type
of education we have today. The main change in education has been the curriculum and the access
to education. Society and education have been developed immensely that has allowed women and
working class children to have access to education.
Since 1870, the education curriculum has seen many changes of development that has had a
positive outcome on education. Three main identified changes are the shift of emphasis from the
person to the child then the teacher s role changes from training to help development and growth.

Magic Realism In The Handsomest Drowned Man In The World
At its most basic level, magical realism is the mixture of the supernatural with realistic
characteristics. This genre is known for having specific traits to help classify if a work of art is
in the genre. One work of art that exemplifies almost all of these traits is The Handsomest
Drowned Man in the World by Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez. After a washed up corpse is found in a
small village, the people of the city fall in love with the man s tallness and his handsomeness.
They quickly decide to worship him and they want to better themselves because of him. On the
other hand, one example of a misconception of magical realism is Big Fish, directed by Tim
Burton. The central character, Edward Bloom, recounts his life with exaggerated stories to his
son Will, who thinks the embellished tales are unnecessary and insulting. As his father is sick,
Will travels to be with him. During his visit, Will gets a more in depth view of his father s real
life and the truth of what his life actually was. This film has some of the traits, but not enough to
classify it as part of the magical realism genre.
One crucial trait needed for magical realism is the idea of irreducible magic. This means magic
that cannot be normalized or reduced throughout the work of art. Big Fish very clearly breaks this
characteristic. In Edward s stories, he magnifies the sense of magic. When Ed passes away, Will
discovers that all the magic Ed encountered throughout his life was relatively normal compared to

Woolworths
1.Executive Summary
The purpose of this report is to provide a strategic analysis of Woolworths in its Australian retailing
and grocery industry. There are some external factors can be affected to Woolworths strategy. To be
analyzed how these factors impact to Woolworths strategies we would use Porter forces five models
as a framework for analysis. They are threats of new entrants and substitute products, rivalry among
competing established competitors, threat of substitutes and bargaining power of Woolworths

There are some reasons can be explained for this reason. Firstly, Woolworths have a high market
share in the industry. In addition, its business size is very big which includes Australian overall
market and some other foreign markets. A lot of selling stores around Australia are good example.
Moreover, the expensive start up costs are another barrier for new competitors. Finally, the high
annual profit of Woolworths is hard for others to enter the retail and grocery industry in Australia.
3.2 Rivalry among established companies
The Australian retail and grocery industry has a high level of concentration ratio because the
available of some major competitors competing in the industry such as Woolworths Ltd, Myer or
Coles (Beaumont, 2004). It means Woolworths have a high concentration of market share in the
Australian retail and grocery industry. In addition, the intensity of those strong competitors is
boosting Woolworths Ltd have been continuously creating a competitive advantage. Using
effective strategy such as low price, selling fresh food, and 24 hour delivery service, Woolworths
Ltd and its subsidiaries such as Safeway, Dicksmith and so on are continuously competing with
other rivals for a strong position in the industry (Porter, 1979).
3.3 Bargaining powers of buyers
Woolworth s customers have a highly powerful bargaining power. The reason is most of
Woolworths selling goods are from individual customers. They can

Comparison Of Nibelungenlied Savagery And Good Manners
In The Nibelungenlied savagery and good manners have an integral role in the interactions
between characters and the epic as a whole. Proper etiquette is emphasized within the medieval
culture, it is used as a sign of respect and admiration to one s superior or equal. However,
Savagery is often either celebrated or discounted completely. There are many instances within the
epic when an event or a character s actions could be perceived as ignoble or undignified, usually,
such acts are frowned upon in medieval literature. However, in The Nibelungenliedthese acts are not
only acceptable, in certain instances, they are even praised. Good manners are often used by
characters within the epic in order to gain some sort of political or strategical advantage. When

Longitude Essay
Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His
Time is written by Dava Sobel. The book is called Longitude because it is about a clock maker who
was able to determine longitude. Determining longitude was the superlative scientific question in
the eighteenth century that Galileo and Newton were not able to resolve.
The principal inspiration behind the invention completed in this book is that many sailors were lost
at seas as a result of their ignorance regarding longitude. So, without the competence to determine
longitude, many innocent lives were disintegrated at seas.

nineteen years to build H 3. The H 3 was the leanest of the sea clocks and was small enough to

Furthermore, Harrison introduced a bi metallic strip in the H 3. The bi metallic strip compensates
immediately and automatically for any changes in temperature that could effect the clock

The Debate Over the Idea of Drilling for Oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
Throughout American history, there have been a number of conflicts and disagreements among the
populace over various issues. These conflicts of interest help to define political parties and allow
people to distinguish themselves through party allegiance.
One such item that is currently being debated is over the idea of drilling for oil in the Arctic
National Wildlife Refuge. For years, environmentalist groups and oil industry supporters have been
sparring over this stretch of land. And both sides have formed some pretty compelling arguments
for their beliefs. As of February 1, 2000, the United States has imported roughly 10.5 million of ...

16 billion barrels of oil from the Alaskan wilderness. Of that 16 billion, there is an estimated 95
percent chance of locating and collecting at least about 5.7 billion barrels of oil. If the oil
producing process went unhindered, many ANWR drilling supporters believe that the new project
would single handedly be able to supply the nation s oil for a full three years and create upwards
of 750,000 new jobs. These beliefs are being stringently refuted by environmentalist groups,
however. Ever since the August 2nd vote in the House, which approved of the ANWR project on
President Bush s Energy Bill, environmentalism activists have been in an uproar.
As CorpWatch puts it: As we hurtle into the twenty first century, oil is still King. But it does not
rule benevolently. Rather, the reign of those who control the politics of petroleumcontinues to
undermine democracy while generating human rights violations and environmental disasters across

Voters had shown that the alleged 750,000 new jobs that would be created by the ANWR project,
were over exaggerated by far. A study done earlier by Dean Baker, co director of the Center of

The Concentration Of The Wastewater
where M1 is the molarity (concentration) of the wastewater, V1 is the amount of titrant used to
reach a neutral pH, M2 is the concentration of the titrant used, and V2 is the total amount of titrant
used as calculated in Figure 1. As Table 8 shows, the calculations were consistent with the
qualitative analysis of concentration formerly explained. For example, the olive oil had the most
concentrated wastewater at 10.25 M while detergent I and vegetable oil had the least concentrated
waste water at 2.5 M and 3.6 M, respectively.
Just like all the other results, these titration analyses could be due to the improper formation of soap
due to a lack of heating again, as previously explained. Then, there was detergent II which started

A 1M concentration of each was used in the titrations when a 6 M concentration should have been
used. As a result, this caused the calculated concentrations of the wastewater to be higher than they
otherwise would be.
Looking at Figures 2 7, the titration graphs have an interesting curve. The change in pH appears to
start slow, then almost instantaneously changes to the neutralized pH. For example, in Figure
2, the olive oil wastewater starts with a very basic pH. As hydrochloric acid is added, the graph
appears to slowly move down the Y axis, meaning the pH is decreasing as well. Suddenly, around
the time when about 0.33 units of hydrochloric acid had been added, the graph drops steeply to
the acidic pH values and plateaus at the acidic pH of about 1.4. The vegetable oil waste water s
titration curve in Figure 3, the crisco waste water s titration curve in figure 4, the lard waste
water s titration curve in figure 5, and the detergent I waste water s titration curve in figure 6 all
display the same described pattern as olive oil waste water s titration curve. In figure 7, the
detergent II waste water s curve follows the same general pattern but is reversed. The graph starts
at an acidic pH since the detergent II s waste water was acidic. Then, it increases slowly at first
and exponentially increases in pH with the graph showing a steep curve and eventually leveling
out to a basic pH of about 12. The

Malnutrition And Nutrition
Approximately 3.1 million children die from hunger each year ( World Child Hunger Facts ).
Hunger for a long period of time results in malnutrition which is the lack of proper nutrition, caused
by not having enough to eat. Hunger and malnutrition is a serious problem faced by many children
across the globe. It is even more prevalent among the developing countries of Asia and Africa where
millions of children are underweight because they do not get enough to eat. Not only does the
malnutritionseverely affect children s physical and mental health, it also affect their academics.
Malnutrition has several negative effects on a child s learning and school performance as it can
lead to lower attendance, unsatisfactory student behavior, and poor academic performance.
School plays a huge role in children s development as it teaches them to think differently and
provides them with the skills necessary for success. It also helps children get out of poverty and
encourages them to bring positive changes to their society. Identifying the effects of malnutrition on
academic performance is important because education is every child s right and not having enough
to eat prevents them from performing at their full potential.
Hunger and Malnutrition negatively affects school attendance. Malnutrition leads to more school
absences which affects children s academic performance. A study conducted in Southwest Ethiopia

Foils And Foils In Roman Fever By Edith Wharton
Opposites don t always attract. In Edith Wharton s Roman Fever , the two main characters seem
to be almost complete opposites of each other. In fact, it can be argued that they are actually
foils of each other. Foils in literature are described as a foil is a character that shows qualities
that are in contrast with the qualities of another character with the objective to highlight the
traits of the other character (LiteraryDevices Editors). Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade seem to at
first be foils of each other, but only on the last page and in the finale act of the story do we see
that Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade may not be so different after all. Armine Kotin Mortimer in
their essay makes this claim, We see each in turn through the somewhat tainted view of the other
(Mortimer 189). I agree with this. The two women definitely don t see each other as similar in
any way. Mortimer says that the women both see each other as if they themselves as better
(Mortimer 189). They are different from each other, but both think lowly other the other. The
smaller and paler one shook her head (Wharton 116). The other lady, who was fuller and higher in

different from each other. Mrs. Grace Ansley is a quiet, reserved, pale, small woman(Wharton 116).
In turn, Mrs. Alida Slade is a loud, outgoing, large, articulate woman (Wharton 116). The two

Summary Of Guy Debord s Society Of The Spectacle
Throughout history there have been many well known philosophers. Through this paper I will be
discussing the perspectives of philosophers Guy Debord, Michel Foucault, and John Rawls. In
Guy Debord s, The Society of the Spectacle he makes critics of technological capitalism. In Michel
Foucault s, Power/Knowledge he goes over different types of power and how they are interpreted.
Debord was a situationist international, which meant creating situations or creating situations.
Referring to the several theses in Debord s novel I can say that the society of the spectacle ...is
not a collection of images; rather, it is a social relationship between people that is mediated by

Consumable survival must increase, in fact, because it continues to enshrine deprivation. The
reason there is nothing beyond augmented survival, and no end to its growth, is that survival
itself belongs to the realm of dispossession: it may gild poverty, but it cannot transcend it
(Debord, 30). This explains that the people are consumers of illusions; it blindsides the people
from reality and only allows them to only be aware of what society or social media wants them to
know.
In Michel Foucault s, Power/ Knowledge , there are two chapters titled Truth and Power and The
Eye of the Power . Foucault s conception of power is that power is everywhere. Everyone has
power and has the ability to make use of their power, but often times citizens don t make use of
their power. It seems that they are in fear of those who enforce their power already, which
prevents them to make use of their power. An everyday individual sees power to be in the hands
of who the people have chosen . We should not always think about power as the private property
of government or state, but rather as an equal common ground for all of those who share the land.
It is not the state that doesn t matter, but the power is bigger than the state; although the state has
power, it does not have all power. A

Andy believed that information is the gatekeeper to power. [He] wanted the team in charge, with
the power to make decisions and make things happen (Blanchard 112). The finishing department
had charts and reports hanging on the walls. Sharing this information allows for employees to know
that what they do impacts others and any safe time saving techniques they can develop or any time

Andy and Peggy were transformational leaders. They inspire[d] people to do the unexpected,

A management style used in Gung Ho was delegation. Delegation is assigning various degrees of

Tj Maxx s Roots Come From The Tjx Companies
The product to be introduced is the clothing and accessory retailer TJ MAXX, into Guatemala.
TJ MAXX s roots come from the TJX Companies Incorporated. TJX Incorporated traces back to
1919. The founding brothers Max and Morris Feldberg started their business with a New England
Trading Company in Boston, Massachusetts. A few years later, in 1929, they decided to go into
the discounted department store business and founded Zayre. After being successful in the
department store business, they decided to expand and then after being extremely successful in
the 70 s they decided to go for something bigger. This next step came during 1976 when Bernard
Cammarata, a young Merchandise Manager, was offered to launch an off price chain project.
Under him, TJ MAXX was born in the United States. TJ MAXX became one of the most
successful off price chain stores in the United States and around the world. Today, TJX Companies
Inc. is still the parent company for TJ MAXX, also owning Homegoods, and Marshalls among
others. According to TJX.com, the first two TJ MAXX stores were an instant success, located in
Auburn and Worcester, Massachusetts. A few years passed and the company expanded all over the
United States and eventually in the 90 s they expanded into Canada, the United Kingdom and
Ireland. With variations in the name such as T.K. MAXX or WINNERS but with the same concept.
Continuing with the expansion, T.K. MAXX went to Germany and Poland in the 2000 s. The

Throughout the semester in Management Information Class I have learned a lot about information
systems. It was very interesting to learn how the internet works, how you can develop messages
through machines and databases and even how to form some databases. One key point in the
design and implementation of intelligent systems is the process of building knowledge bases. As
most of the research in the AI field has moved from the construction of general purpose problem
solvers to building knowledge based systems that deal with problems restricted to a particular
domain, many techniques have been proposed to acquisition and representation of knowledge
bases. Databases are at the heart of modern commercial application development. Their use... Show

In this case, JAD is defined as a structured workshop where people come together to plan projects,
design systems, or make business decisions (whether IT related or not). Today, JAD is commonly
used for strategic business planning, strategic IS plans, IS architecture definition, re engineering
business processes, detailed system design, process and data modeling, and project management.
This might be the broadest application of JAD so far.
The definition is also expanding on another aspect of JAD the location of the session. In the
earlier days, definition of JAD includes bring users and developers together in a same physical

How do individual differences (e.g., personality, value,...
ANALYTICAL ESSAY How do individual differences (e.g., personality, value, perceptions,
attitudes, motivation and performance) affect team dynamics? The importance of groups and teams
have become a major focus in the business world today. Organizations have started to realize that
the evolution from an individual to a team management approach is a priority in present day. The
reality is that much of an organization s work is accomplished directly or indirectly through teams,
which are used as means of growing effectiveness and efficiency. Any organization is constantly
changing and evolving (Scarnati 2005). Naturally, group procedure and conflicts are influenced by
the choice of team member selection and directly impact required... Show more content on

By being open in a team, the other members will be able to communicate their ideas and be
confident about it. Conscientiousness refers to the degree to which a person is organized,
systematic, punctual, achievement oriented, and dependable. Conscientiousness is the one
personality trait that uniformly predicts how high a person s performance will be across a
variety of occupations and jobs. This personality trait makes it easier to work in a team and keep
all members on board. Once they are hired, conscientious people not only tend to perform well,
but they also have higher levels of motivation to perform, lower levels of turnover, lower levels
of absenteeism, and higher levels of safety performance at work. Extraversion is the degree to
which a person is outgoing, talkative, sociable, and enjoys socializing. Extraverts do well in
social situations, and, as a result, they tend to be effective in job interviews. Part of this success
comes from preparation, as they are likely to use their social network to prepare for the interview.
(Roberts, B. W., Walton, K. E., Viechtbauer, W,2006). Extraverts have an easier time than
introverts do when adjusting to a new job. Moreover, they are not necessarily model employees.
For example, they tend to have higher levels of absenteeism at work, potentially because they may
miss work to hang out with or attend to the needs of their friends. Agreeableness is the degree to
which a person is affable, tolerant, sensitive,

Portrayal Of Women In Antigone
In the play, The Burial at Thebes Antigone, the daughter and the sister of Oedipus, is the tragic
heroine of the play. The character of Antigone is portrayed very differently as it breaks the
stereotypes of the typical portrayal of women is the society. In the first moments of the play, as
the plot develops and characters enfold, Antigone is produced as a rebel from the onset itself. Her
character is countered to her radiant sister Ismene. She was never as beautiful and as docile as her
sister Ismene but was brave, scrawny, recalcitrant, withdrawn and stubborn brat of the family. The
early plot reveals that Antigone has a boyish physique and thus curses her girlhood. She being the
antithesis of the histrionic heroine envies the beautiful Ismene. Due to these factors, Antigone has
always been complicated as a person, she grew up terrorizing Ismene as a child and refusing to
understand the limits placed on her and this attribute of her character later dominants her resulting
in tragedy. Ismene, on the other hand, is entire of this world, the object of all men s desires, so
Antigone s jealousy is justified.
After Antigone s father went into exile, Antigone and her sister were brought up in the house of
Creon. Polyneices and Eteocles are her two brothers who lead opposite sides in Thebes civil war
and get killed in the battle leaving Antigone and Ismene as the last of the Labdacus family.
After her brothers became the casualties in a brutal war for power, the terrible war

Questions On Accounting And Auditing Issues
Introduction:
After visiting the company, we found some accounting and auditing issues that come to our
attention. So we prepared a memo for Mr. Kovacs as a result of our visit to make him be aware of
these potential problems.
Accounting issues:
The owners of the company believe that WHCL will be poised to be a major player in the
Canadian and the US heating and cooling markets in three years. However, after collecting
information and auditing all the financial statement, we found that there is numerous issues need to
be concerned for WHCL in recent years.
1. Covenants:
We can notice that in the early fiscal 2000, WHCL increased its debt significantly, and the company
had attached several covenants specifying that debt to equity ratio ... Show more content on

But this would certainly increase the audit risk. If the company has violated the covenants, the
auditor should disclose that in the financial statement.
Exhibit 1 Current RatioDebt To Equity Ratio

20001446/1149=1.251974/1007=1.96
2. Warranty(Estimated Expense):
In 1994, WHCL introduced a new model of gas furnace and these products are sold with ten year
warranties on parts and labor. Although this marketing strategy can attract more customers to buy
their product, the increased long term warranty claims will increase company s warranty expense,
and lower their future profit.
The most serious accounting problem for WHCL is the warranty potential liability. The
increasing liability concern is because WHCL sold a new model of gas furnace with 10 year
warranties in 1994. So we need to consider how much repair costs should be reported in the 2000
financial statements. As we know, cost of repairing each furnace was $150, and there are 30
claims were made. So we need to record 30 x $150=$4500 in warranty expenses in 2000 financial
statement. Another problem for us is the information we currently collect cannot let us make an
accurate estimate. Apparently, WHCL don t want to record too much costs in current period, but
the fact is they require a large amount of accrual. If the estimate is low, then the costs we

Another branch of mathematics which has nice applications in business, engineering, computer
science and many fields of applied mathematics. We first introduce the concept of matrices, their
determinants. Then, there will be algebra of matrices such as addition, multiplication and finding
inverses. Next, we see some application of matrix algebra with some real world problems. Finally,
we move to linear transformation of vectors, and then calculation of eigenvectors and eigenvalues
of the matrices.
There will be four class tests after completing each of the three sections and a combine test for
sequence and series and power series. Eventually, when we re done with all five chapters, we ll
get to the final exam and, if you make it to the end, you will be done. It is by no means an easy
path to get to the end of this course; it is a difficult subject and is only learned by means of hard
work. You are going to have to work hard and persevere to get to the end. But I am confident that
together, we can make it.

Maori Culture Essay
Kia Ora, my name is Te Mahia Millanta and I am a extramural student studying marketing and
economics. I chose this paper as an elective and was interested in developing my knowledge of
Maori culture. I will now discuss the impact of Maori values and concepts as they relate to the
study of a specific discipline, marketing.
From the well known All black haka to professional golfer Michael Campbell s clothing label,
Cambo, the culture of Maori and their brand are helping New Zealand position itself in an ever
increasing global market. New Zealand government officials first warned Fiat (car
manufacturer), whom launched and advertisement of woman imitating the Ka mate haka last
year that it would be seen as insensitive to Maori and the New Zealand public. The irony of
course is that this is certainly not the first time that an international company has trespassed into
our culture and more likely it won t be the last. The elaborate form of the traditional challenge is
not often seen these days. It is largely reserved for special occasions such as visits by senior
dignitaries. However, the principles that underpin the traditional rituals are still retained in a
modern form (Guide, 2014). Recently New Zealand has been awarded second place in the world in
terms of authentic brands in terms of distinctive, unique and genuine cultures. Brand strategist
Brian Richards adds, Maori culture can add value to New Zealand s identity in such a significant
way . Nevertheless as outraged

Asl And The American Sign Language
American Sign Language is the interesting, logical, and fun to learn. ASL is the fourth most used
languages in the United States. ASL is used for hearing people to get the messages across to Deaf
people and Deaf community. Deaf people use American Sign Language to communicate with their
friends, family or their loved one who is deaf. Now parents are teaching their babies to learn ASL.
The American Sign Languagegives children, their confidence, and self esteem in their lives. Deaf
Community vs. Hard of hearing is a different point of view, and their impact was to have
opportunities to have new friendships, connection to other people in the hard of hearing community
and to be able to talk with hard of hearing people easier.
The hard of hearing or non signer could be friends with deaf people by using American Sign
Language. The deaf people, hard of hearing and hearing people interact with each other in American
Sign Language. The most of the deaf people are usually comfortable communicating with hearing
people and people are happy that the hearing people are attempted using American Sign Language
to communicate and instead ignoring them. American Sign Language has overcome the
communication barrier for hard of hearing, hearing people, infants, toddlers and elderly
grandparents who could not hear. American Sign Language is a visual language, for example, the
facial expression, body movements and hand gesture. The deaf people priority was in person

The Polygraph In The Truth Machine
In The Truth Machine, a science fiction novel published in 1996 and written by James Halperin,
some scientists invent a machine that can detect lies perfectly. As a results, it stops crime, changes
the world system, and saves humanity from self destruction. Could humanity ever build a similar
device? And if we cannot why do we keep using the polygraphtests. For almost a century, the
polygraph has been one of the closest device from a liedetector used for criminal investigations.
Many in the scientific and legal fields do not rely on it, because of its versatile accuracy.

Infertility Research Paper
Abstract
This paper exhibits various factors that may affect fertility problems over the age of 35 including
age, education, nutrition, weight, contraceptive usage and miscellaneous reproductive concerns.
The focus is to illustrate each factor and identify the effects that are imposed on women to prohibit
conception. There are several ways to explain the increasing prevalence of infertility. The most
controversial concern is the extend and/or duration of using contraceptives. In today s society, it is
typical for a woman to delay her first pregnancy until the third decade of life which place her at
risk for STD s, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, and chronic anovulation

career, and wait for the stability of permanent employment before establishing a family.
According to the CDC, many women are waiting until their 30s and 40s to have children. In fact,
about 20% of women in the United States now have their first child after age 35, and this leads
to a growing cause of fertility complications. Research has proven that approximately one third of
couples in which the woman is older than 35 years have fertility problems. Aging not only

  • 2. Baroque Music In researching musical eras that have greatly influenced music, there are two that have stood out. The Baroque Era and Classical Era have generated artists that are well known. Both eras play an important part of history with artists who have influenced artists of today. In this essay, there will be a discussion on both types of musicand differences of each. This discussion will also include a discussion on artists of this era. Baroque is a musical era that falls between two other important eras in music. These two eras of music are the Renaissance Era and the Classical Era. This is roughly a period between the 1600s and 1750. The era of Baroque music was one that showed spectacular progress of knowledge with scientific discoveries, mathematical advances, and philosophical explorations (Thornburg, 2014). The music from this era can still be recognized today. Music from the Baroque period is the earliest European music which we still generally recognize, whether it is the theme from Masterpiece Theater, the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel s Messiah, or any number of other pieces (Thornburg, 2014) . Most of the Baroque music of that time was written on demand for specific occasions by those who thought of themselves as craftsmen instead of artists. In listening to this style of music, there is a regular, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The name classical is applied to this period because of the art and literature, the keen interest in and admiration for, and emulation of the classical artistic and literary heritage of Greece and Rome (Classical Period, 2014) . During this age, people viewed music not only for church and courts, but also for entertainment. This era was dominated by three composers. They were Franz Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig van Beethoven (Classical Period, 2014). • 3. Alexander Hamilton Contributions The final years of his life were riddled with tragedy and pain, his death becoming the most famous duel in American history. Born between 1755 and 1757 and orphaned at a young age, Alexander Hamilton climbed the social ranks from a poor immigrant born in the small Caribbean island of Nevis, to one of the most prominent founding fathers of America. Through several scandals and the harsh criticisms of his enemies, Hamilton made incredibly important contributions to American history. He was instrumental in the ratification of the United States Constitution, the establishment of a national bank, and the formation of a two party system (Federalists and Democratic Republicans), and was also the first Secretary of Treasury in American history. One of Hamilton s first friends and mortal enemy, Aaron Burrwas nearly the complete opposite of him. He was born to a wealthy family from New Jersey in 1756. As intellectually gifted as Hamilton, he graduated from the College of New Jersey (now known as Princeton) when he was 17. They were good friends for a while, until their friendship was torn apart by their conflicting political pursuits. 1790: Burr defeats Hamilton s father in law in battle for senate seat. 1796: Burr runs for vice presidency on Jefferson s Democratic Republican ticket. Hamilton begins public attacks on him. Saw Burr as a dangerous opportunist . The same year, Hamilton had published a document that almost completely destroyed his political career. His wife and ... • 4. Nelson Mandela As A Vocation Leader Nelson Mandela once stated there is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountain tops of our desires. This powerful quote was a summary of his life. Nelson was a liberating activist in South Africa. His purpose as a leader was to end apartheid and advocate for human rights. On the journey to his purpose, Nelson loved, lived and lost. Nelson fulfilled his duty as a vocation leader but at the cost of his freedom, family and life. • 5. Essay on Mariachi Music Mariachi Music The origins of the word mariachi are not very clear. One theory, that the word came from the French word for marriage has been totally discounted. Many historians believed that the word originated when a Frenchman named Maximillian was the emperor of Mexico. Evidence of the usage of the word dates back much earlier than the arrival of Europeans, so the word had to come from somewhere else. Another theory states that the origin came from the name of the wood used to make the guitars or platforms on which the musicians performed. The most recent theory, however, dates the word back to the early 1500 s to the Coca Indian word for a musician (Ruiz, 2002). Today, the term mariachi refers to the musicians who play... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The popularity of mariachi music continued to grow, and the populist president LГЎzaro CГЎrdenas, elected in 1934, further boosted their popularity with the Mexican elite (Sharp, 2004). As more and more Mexicans came across the border to the U.S., they brought their traditions and culture with them. Mariachi was now a part of this culture all across Mexico. Mariachi music could be found in cafes and public squares all across the Southwest by the 1950 s. Today, it can still be heard in public venues in the Southwest, and it can also be heard at festivals and concerts all across the country. When Linda Ronstadt released an album of mariachi music in 1988, the genre reached nationwide popularity (Sharp, 2004). Throughout its history, the mariachi and their music could be found just about anywhere in Mexico. In the early days, the mariachi were roving musicians with no musical training. Mariachi bands were made up primarily of men. Most of them couldn t read music, but the groups were very skilled at blending their musical talents together. Before the revolution, they played for hire in haciendas, and afterwards they played in public squares and cafes for tips, in some haciendas, and were hired for celebrations and parties (Sharp, 2004). Today, mariachi music can be found all over Mexico and the U.S., though its popularity in this country is more limited to the Southwest. The musicians of today s mariachi ensembles are highly skilled, well trained men ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Essay on The Beginning of Hip Hop Culture and B-Boy Battling Music screeching through the room, crowds going wild, and anticipation growing inside while holding a b boy stance in the South Bronx. A young boy holds his ground as his peers dance to the music, but as the break segment of the song awakens, the young boy rushes to the middle of the dance floor. As few people know, this is established the start of a worldwide phenomenon and lifestyle. Hip hop is a misunderstood culture that has been driven out from its roots by media and the new generation. Society knows little behind the birth of hip hop, but as for the dance portion of hip hop, b boyingis the true art form. Clive Kool Herc Campbell, an African American DJ known to hip hop pioneers as the father of hip hop, gave the name b boyto $$#Break#$$ Stretching is vital for a b boy or a b girl as well, and even for the simplest moves, not stretching could cause you to injure a party of your body. It also gives more of the opportunity to create something new and original. Training is essential to perfect moves and to create something your own, even if all that training makes you feel that it can only workout the body. Listening to music trains the mind much more than providing a clean set or combination. Mood and attitude affect the way a dancer dances, and since hip hop is so raw and clean, b boys and b girls train in a matter to be raw and clean versus being so plain with their ideas. The mind works just as hard as the body to create what to do in a split second. Endurance is surely there, especially in the moment of a battle. The competitive nature of hip hop can be somewhat violent at times, but only because it reflects what street dancers go through and do everyday just to be on top of the cliff. A battle can get mean; you can get your opponent so humiliating that they will want to fight you (Swift, Ken. The Vibe History of Hip Hop 55). To any b boy the battle is the very test in your abilities as a dancer. Competition, of course, is an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Effects Of Depression And Its Effects On People With... In today s day and age, there are many things that can effect a person s personality and mood. Relationships, careers, personal life, all those things are adversely effecting everyone. Sometimes, these things can effect someone negatively and emotionally. The death of a loved one, for example, could affect someone and cause them to feel grief. If not handled with correctly, that grief could cause a person to sink into depression, until they would require outside help to overcome it. Depression is a serious mental illness that effects day to day activities and one s personal life, and serious matters need to be taken before it goes too far. Unfortunately, experts today are more inclined to prescribe a pill to help people with depression, rather than recommending psychotherapy, which has been proven for decades to help many individuals with psychological problems. By now, it has gotten to a point in where drugs aren t even always being prescribed for their intended use. Over half of the antidepressants prescribed to Americans in 2005 were for uses other than depression, which can greatly increase the already high risks to taking psychiatric drugs (King 2012). Antidepressants have been used for many decades and are often considered a miracle cure until a complication arises. An antidepressant is used to treat mild to severe depression in most patients, although many doctors prescribe it for other problems, such as eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, and other ... It was this specific narrative that also gauged my own interest in reading the entire poem. There were so many perspectives involved in the main plot that it made it easy for the audience to read into all sorts of themes and motifs like for instance with the Christians and Cordobans. So many subtle details involved that kept interest into reading the rest. Although she was bound to a wheelchair, she was as boy crazy as any fourteen year old girl. Because we were the same age, we bonded over several things, especially our love for Justin Bieber and One Direction. Our friendship did not start as a normal friendship would since I assisted her in all daily activities, but it was a friendship built on love and appreciation of one another. During the same year, I met Devon. She had Down Syndrome, but she did not let this disability stop her. She brought a positive attitude to all activities. Often, she would come up behind me and tickle me; if I laughed, Devon would laugh. On rainy days or before rest hour, she became Rainbow Dash and rapped in the cabin about anything and everything. My favorite side of Devon is the tomboy that came out during outdoor games. Although her mental disability inhibited her physical, it did not stop her trash talking her opponents. My most recent camper is Lizzie. Lizzie had a developmental disability; although she was thirteen, she had the mental capacity of a four year old. Sometimes, Lizzie had a hard time verbalizing what she wanted and became aggravated with her attendants for not understanding. The volunteers knew what would always cheer her up: her slinky. Lizzie asked me countless times a day if we could go to Cracker Barrel just to buy a small purple slinky. Lizzie was happy as long as she has her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She wrote these words in her diary in the attic of her father s business. She was hiding from the Nazi s, and hid among several other people in a confined area. Anne thought that everyone was truly good hearted. She sadly died in a concentration camp about a year later. The truth is people are not good at heart. • 15. Maxim Kills Rebecca Rebecca has been a popular gothic romance novel. The plot is traditional: A young woman, the protagonist, ends up in a foreign setting, and must win the heart of a striking man while piecing together a mystery. Also, typically in gothic fashion, the weather will mirror the characters moods. An example of this is when Maxim kills Rebecca the same night of a terrible storm. This novel of suspense had two twists to it, which makes it a very well thought out story. The story begins in Manderley and sets an foreboding atmosphere, which is typical for gothic fashion literature. This is laid out before the flashback in the novel. Pericles thought that by rebuilding the Acropolis, it could stand as a memorial to the Persian War and to Athena, the patron of the Athenian people. Phidias was a sculptor whom Periclesplaced in charge of the sculptural program for the new buildings of Acropolis. Pericles very much wanted Athens to be the leading example for Greece. Eliot and His Problems Among the twenty essays published by T.S Eliot in The Sacred Wood: Essays on Poetry and Criticism , one cannot help but notice the provocatively titled critique of Shakespeare s play Hamlet, Hamlet and His Problems . In his essay, Eliot argues that Hamlet is an artistic failure (Eliot 1). Again, he bluntly states that one is to come to the irrefragable (Eliot 2) conclusion that Shakespeare tackled a problem which proved too much for him (Eliot 4). Upon closer examination of the play in question, one is to quickly find that Eliot s provoking thesis has no root in logic and common sense. In fact, it is evident the title character s delayed revenge is validly explained in the protagonist s characterisation; pathos is achieved throughout the play and that the emotion elicited by the dramatist in the main character was expertly illustrated in the text contrary to the author s expressed opinion. To begin, Eliot argues that Shakespeare s Hamletis a non complete alteration of previous revenge plays such as The Spanish Tragedy. For instance, he states that in the Shakespearean edition, the theme of revenge is unexplained on grounds of necessity or expediency (Eliot 2). Again, he adds that it is overtaken by a motive which is more important. Firstly, the author s argument is incomplete as he fails to mention and argue the other motive which overtakes that of revenge. • 23. Magic Realism In The Handsomest Drowned Man In The World At its most basic level, magical realism is the mixture of the supernatural with realistic characteristics. This genre is known for having specific traits to help classify if a work of art is in the genre. One work of art that exemplifies almost all of these traits is The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World by Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez. After a washed up corpse is found in a small village, the people of the city fall in love with the man s tallness and his handsomeness. They quickly decide to worship him and they want to better themselves because of him. On the other hand, one example of a misconception of magical realism is Big Fish, directed by Tim Burton. The central character, Edward Bloom, recounts his life with exaggerated stories to his son Will, who thinks the embellished tales are unnecessary and insulting. As his father is sick, Will travels to be with him. During his visit, Will gets a more in depth view of his father s real life and the truth of what his life actually was. This film has some of the traits, but not enough to classify it as part of the magical realism genre. One crucial trait needed for magical realism is the idea of irreducible magic. This means magic that cannot be normalized or reduced throughout the work of art. Big Fish very clearly breaks this characteristic. In Edward s stories, he magnifies the sense of magic. H 2 was also bar shaped and included an implement to ensure a unchanging drive and a more agreeable temperature reimbursement device. Although its motion was adequately regular and exact for finding the longitude of a ship within the nearest limits proposed by the Parliament, H 2 was not good enough for Harrison. If the oil producing process went unhindered, many ANWR drilling supporters believe that the new project would single handedly be able to supply the nation s oil for a full three years and create upwards of 750,000 new jobs. As Table 8 shows, the calculations were consistent with the qualitative analysis of concentration formerly explained. For example, the olive oil had the most concentrated wastewater at 10.25 M while detergent I and vegetable oil had the least concentrated waste water at 2.5 M and 3.6 M, respectively. The change in pH appears to start slow, then almost instantaneously changes to the neutralized pH. For example, in Figure 2, the olive oil wastewater starts with a very basic pH. As hydrochloric acid is added, the graph appears to slowly move down the Y axis, meaning the pH is decreasing as well. Suddenly, around the time when about 0.33 units of hydrochloric acid had been added, the graph drops steeply to the acidic pH values and plateaus at the acidic pH of about 1.4. The vegetable oil waste water s titration curve in Figure 3, the crisco waste water s titration curve in figure 4, the lard waste water s titration curve in figure 5, and the detergent I waste water s titration curve in figure 6 all display the same described pattern as olive oil waste water s titration curve. In figure 7, the detergent II waste water s curve follows the same general pattern but is reversed. The graph starts at an acidic pH since the detergent II s waste water was acidic. Then, it increases slowly at first and exponentially increases in pH with the graph showing a steep curve and eventually leveling out to a basic pH of about 12. The ... • 33. Malnutrition And Nutrition Approximately 3.1 million children die from hunger each year ( World Child Hunger Facts ). Hunger for a long period of time results in malnutrition which is the lack of proper nutrition, caused by not having enough to eat. Hunger and malnutrition is a serious problem faced by many children across the globe. It is even more prevalent among the developing countries of Asia and Africa where millions of children are underweight because they do not get enough to eat. Not only does the malnutritionseverely affect children s physical and mental health, it also affect their academics. Malnutrition has several negative effects on a child s learning and school performance as it can lead to lower attendance, unsatisfactory student behavior, and poor academic performance. School plays a huge role in children s development as it teaches them to think differently and provides them with the skills necessary for success. It also helps children get out of poverty and encourages them to bring positive changes to their society. Identifying the effects of malnutrition on academic performance is important because education is every child s right and not having enough to eat prevents them from performing at their full potential. Hunger and Malnutrition negatively affects school attendance. Malnutrition leads to more school absences which affects children s academic performance. • 35. Foils And Foils In Roman Fever By Edith Wharton Opposites don t always attract. In Edith Wharton s Roman Fever , the two main characters seem to be almost complete opposites of each other. In fact, it can be argued that they are actually foils of each other. Foils in literature are described as a foil is a character that shows qualities that are in contrast with the qualities of another character with the objective to highlight the traits of the other character (LiteraryDevices Editors). Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade seem to at first be foils of each other, but only on the last page and in the finale act of the story do we see that Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade may not be so different after all. Armine Kotin Mortimer in their essay makes this claim, We see each in turn through the somewhat tainted view of the other (Mortimer 189). I agree with this. The two women definitely don t see each other as similar in any way. Mortimer says that the women both see each other as if they themselves as better (Mortimer 189). They are different from each other, but both think lowly other the other. The smaller and paler one shook her head (Wharton 116). The other lady, who was fuller and higher in color... (Wharton 116). These two sentences show us that Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade are very different from each other. Mrs. Grace Ansley is a quiet, reserved, pale, small woman(Wharton 116). Through this paper I will be discussing the perspectives of philosophers Guy Debord, Michel Foucault, and John Rawls. In Guy Debord s, The Society of the Spectacle he makes critics of technological capitalism. In Michel Foucault s, Power/Knowledge he goes over different types of power and how they are interpreted. Debord was a situationist international, which meant creating situations or creating situations. Referring to the several theses in Debord s novel I can say that the society of the spectacle ...is not a collection of images; rather, it is a social relationship between people that is mediated by images (Derbord, 12). This shows that it is not only a result ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consumable survival must increase, in fact, because it continues to enshrine deprivation. The reason there is nothing beyond augmented survival, and no end to its growth, is that survival itself belongs to the realm of dispossession: it may gild poverty, but it cannot transcend it (Debord, 30). This explains that the people are consumers of illusions; it blindsides the people from reality and only allows them to only be aware of what society or social media wants them to know. In Michel Foucault s, Power/ Knowledge , there are two chapters titled Truth and Power and The Eye of the Power . Foucault s conception of power is that power is everywhere. Everyone has power and has the ability to make use of their power, but often times citizens don t make use of their power. It seems that they are in fear of those who enforce their power already, which prevents them to make use of their power. An everyday individual sees power to be in the hands of who the people have chosen . We should not always think about power as the private property of government or state, but rather as an equal common ground for all of those who share the land. It is not the state that doesn t matter, but the power is bigger than the state; although the state has power, it does not have all power. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Conscientiousness is the one personality trait that uniformly predicts how high a person s performance will be across a variety of occupations and jobs. This personality trait makes it easier to work in a team and keep all members on board. Once they are hired, conscientious people not only tend to perform well, but they also have higher levels of motivation to perform, lower levels of turnover, lower levels of absenteeism, and higher levels of safety performance at work. Extraversion is the degree to which a person is outgoing, talkative, sociable, and enjoys socializing. Warranty(Estimated Expense): In 1994, WHCL introduced a new model of gas furnace and these products are sold with ten year warranties on parts and labor. Although this marketing strategy can attract more customers to buy their product, the increased long term warranty claims will increase company s warranty expense, and lower their future profit. So we need to consider how much repair costs should be reported in the 2000 financial statements. As we know, cost of repairing each furnace was $150, and there are 30 claims were made. So we need to record 30 x $150=$4500 in warranty expenses in 2000 financial statement. Another problem for us is the information we currently collect cannot let us make an accurate estimate. The Polygraph In The Truth Machine In The Truth Machine, a science fiction novel published in 1996 and written by James Halperin, some scientists invent a machine that can detect lies perfectly. As a results, it stops crime, changes the world system, and saves humanity from self destruction. Could humanity ever build a similar device? And if we cannot why do we keep using the polygraphtests. For almost a century, the polygraph has been one of the closest device from a liedetector used for criminal investigations. Many in the scientific and legal fields do not rely on it, because of its versatile accuracy. Moreover, as the psychologist Leonard Saxe, PhD, (1991) has stated: The idea that we can detect a person s veracity by monitoring psycho physiological changes is more myth than reality. Several studies have showed that some parts of the brain are more active when people tell lies rather than truths, such areas at the very front of our brain. As a result, while abandoning the polygraph, some scientists have accepted brain scanners, using two methods. The first one uses electronic sensors to measure brainwave , called P300, appearing when we see something familiar. Through this signal it is possible to determine if someone is hiding something that they know about, like a murder weapon. The second technique is called, the Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (FMRI); Showing the location of active neurons, by tracking the blood flow that provides nutrients and oxygen. However, there is no Centre of dishonesty in the human s brain. Those neurons can even be more active when someone is telling the truth, or when they are trying to decide whether to be honest or not. However, these techniques can detect lies up 78 to 85% of the time, which shows that we making good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
