Narrative Essays Sample
Writing an essay on the topic "Narrative Essays Sample" can be quite challenging for several
reasons. Firstly, crafting a narrative essay requires a deep understanding of storytelling
techniques and the ability to engage readers through a compelling narrative arc. This involves
selecting a meaningful and relatable personal experience to explore, structuring the essay in a
coherent manner, and effectively conveying emotions and insights to the audience.
Moreover, since narrative essays are often subjective and based on personal experiences, finding
the right balance between introspection and objective storytelling can be tricky. Writers must
navigate between providing vivid details to immerse readers in the narrative and maintaining a
reflective distance to analyze the significance of the experience.
Furthermore, crafting a narrative essay sample requires honing one's writing skills to effectively
convey the desired message and evoke the intended emotional response from the audience. This
includes mastering elements such as descriptive language, dialogue, pacing, and character
development to create a vivid and engaging narrative.
Overall, writing an essay on the topic "Narrative Essays Sample" demands both creativity and
technical proficiency in storytelling, making it a challenging task for many writers.

Liberalism And Ligalitarianism
Politics is often discussed on the basis or right and wrong, left and right, and is
riddled with false dichotomies, when it really is a much more vivid and complex
spectrum than that. There are many different systems of governments and competing
ideologies, that are further then divided in their leanings and priorities. Of the first
ideologies, Liberalism, is also subcategorized into different interpretations based on
how much of liberty is attainable and a governmental presence there should be. It is
divided into Classical Liberalism, Social Darwinism, Egalitarian Liberalism,
Libertarianism, and Libertarian Anarchism. The reason there is much contention
within Liberalism as an ideology on its own, is because all of these factions idealize...

On the one hand, with the emergence of the nation state and theories of sovereignty
in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, ideas of a distinctly public realm began
to crystallize. On the other hand, in reaction to the claims of monarchs and, later,
parliaments to the unrestrained power to make law, there developed a
countervailing effort to stake out distinctively private spheres free from the
encroaching power of the state. Natural rights theories were elaborated in the
seventeenth century for the purpose of setting limits on state power, both over
property and religious conscience(3). Many philosophers such as Locke, Miller, and
Paine, and Kant argue for these rights due to the fact that there was a great social
awakening and a growing urge to question the legitimacy of leadership. On these
basis stood the foundation of classical liberalism.
Classical Liberalism prioritizes above all things complete and total individual liberty.
Believers in Classical Liberalism assert that it must be served in completeness
because any lack of it creates citizens that are willingly dependent on the government.
It is imperative to understand that Classical Liberalism does not call for complete
anarchy or even no government at all like Libertarian Anarchists do, but rather a
small government. Thomas Paine describes this idea as Society in every state is a
blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst
William Wordsworth As A Romantic Poet
William Wordsworth was born in April 7, 1770 in a village on the edge of the Lake
District in northwest England. In 1787 Wordsworth was enrolled at St. Johs
College, Cambridge as a scholarship student, but because he was un interested in
the curriculum, he decided to depend on self reading. During his twenty s years of
central events have took place in Wordsworth life, receiving money from a friend
that enabled him to process a house, and the establishment of collaboration with
Smauel coleride that led to the publication of a volume of poems and ballads. Many
of his poems were composed while he was walking through a neighborhood, a park,
or uninhabited area. (McDonnell. Veidemanis and pfordresher, 1991, pp: 449, 462).

opportunity and experience to amply his imagination as a poet, also he used to

Towheed, p, 21).
1 Romantic writers as Wordsworth see themselves as reacting against the though
and literary practices of the proceeding century. The major subject in the romantic
work especially in the poems as the daffodil by William Wordsworth is the beauty
and the satisfactions achieved from the nature followed by feelings of pleasure.
Nature meant great deal to the romantics, such as it has been perceived as the

Essay On Italian Immigrants In Philadelphia
In a discussion in class, we talked about how we would investigate why certain
groups of people or located in certain sections of the city. As a class we made city
maps, my map shared many sections of the city. However, what I noticed is that
my map was empty in certain places that I do not identify with. One section in
particular was South Philadelphia, as Italian and Irish people mainly live there. I
hardly visit that part of the city and had my first steak this year. This intrigued my
interest to investigate Italians in Philadelphia. I will investigate the history of how
the Italian immigrants made it to my city. Italians have been a part of the view in
Philadelphia since colonial times. In 1665, a group of Italian Protestants came to
New Sweden seeking religious asylum. Philadelphia and Delaware were all part of
the same New Sweden. It is assumed that many from the original group of 150
came to live in Philadelphia when the English took over Philadelphia. William
Penn believed in religious freedom and had visited Italy as a Quakers. Many early
Italians were able to pray with French and other European Catholics later when the
Establishment of Old St. Joseph s Church in 1733 was built. In 1758, the first Italian
was christened at Old St. Joseph s. The First Italian Catholic Church was held in the

During this time, Italian American were looking to separate themselves from African
American. The main priority was to separate themselves from the Turks in America.
America differentiated people by color and this opportunity led the children to
follow suit of the separation. Many were able to reclaim the citizenship of their
parents who had been native here a generation before the 1960s. In the 1970 s, the

The National Security Agency and Electronic Surveilance
George Zimmerman committed murder, and was acquitted of charges by a jury, as
there was not enough evidence to prove that Zimmerman had not acted in self
defense. Zimmerman walked away from the trial without any repercussion, and much
of the country was outraged. But what if Zimmerman had been wearing Google
Glasses, or what if Martin had been using his phone? Both devices have the
capability to record events. Either of those could have been used as evidence against
Zimmerman, and might have been enough for the jury to find him guilty of murder.
Many Americans find flaws with the NSA s (National SecurityAgency) cell phone,
satellite and camera monitoring. Though most people despise the program, the NSA
s monitoring power needs to be raised. With the ability to more thoroughly investigate
crimescenes though electronic methods, the NSA could help catch local criminals,
and could also investigate terrorist attacks on the country more thoroughly. In the
end, it comes down to a simple choice, privacy or safety. Which is more important,
a small amount of privacy on electronic devices, or the safety of the entire country?
In recent months, the NSA has been attacked by cell phone users across America.
This accusation is greatly aided by the media, which makes the NSA appear much
worse than it actually is. The media has made it appear that the NSA directly reads
each and every text sent by Americans, and the privacy of American citizens is being
infringed upon. While many texts
Essay about Capturing the Friedmans
Capturing the Friedmans In 2003, Andrew Jarecki released his documentary
Capturing the Friedmans , which explores a seemingly normal middle class
families struggle when the father and son are charged with sexual abuse and
molestation in 1987. The Friedman s from the outside seem like a healthy family,
abiding in a fairly exclusive Great Neck, Long Island community; the father Arnold
is a Columbia Graduate and a school teacher, while the mother Elaine, a housewife.
They have three sons David, Seth, and Jessie whom appear to be a happy, intelligent,
and good humored group of brothers. The power and prestige of this film comes not
from its controversial and serious subject matter, but from the unbiased way in which
the story is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So when Arnold (power) fell, everything else can be described by Elaine s
metaphor from the film: If there is a rowboat and its sinking, and the rowboat is
tied to a rock, you have to disconnect the rowboat, even though the rock is sinking.
The father Arnold Friedman was initially under investigation because child
pornography ordered in his name from Europe was intersected by the police, and
being a school teacher this raised a number of ethical issues. Through a police set
up Arnold was tricked into taking the magazine from a police officer, and thus a
search warrant was instituted. The police found piles of child pornography
magazines hidden next to his piano, and in his office. His wife seemed unaware of
these magazines, but not because Arnold Although, the photographs of the crime
scene show an organized normal looking house, the polices claims make it sound
like they had porno on their coffee table. Regardless of this, Arnold had a history of
fervent sexuality in his life, beginning in early childhood he was exposed to the very
private and sexual part of his mothers life, and therefor starting exploring his own
sexuality through mimicking behavior he had seen with his younger brother. Arnold
overdosed on antidepressants and killed himself while he was still in jail, although
David remembers it as a heart attack. The mother Elaine Friedman seemed very

Stereotypes In Mulan
The Disney version of Mulan, naturally imposes decades old gender stereotypes
which are popular in the American culture. The story begins with Mulan on her
way to the matchmaker. While, getting ready there is a list of qualities that a
respectable woman is expected to be in order to find a man. These qualities are
both physical, such as having a small waist and a gorgeous face, as well as
personality based, because they are expected to be disciplined and respectful. In
addition, the womans makeup and dress are completed so the women look like little
porcelain dolls, perfectly beautiful but quiet. On multiple occasions, Mulan is
reprimanded for speaking when not spoken to, for example, when she defends her
father in front of the whole town,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even Shang who said he trusted Mulan, turns his back. When Mulan returns to
town to warn everyone that the Huns are coming no one will believe her, even
strangers refuse to acknowledge her and listen, they just turn and walk away. It is
easy to do this because Mulan is a woman and she is not made to be listened too.
This is even openly stated by Mushu that she is the wrong gender for people to
acknowledge her. When the Huns finally attack, it is Mulan who springs into action,
dressing up her comrades as women. While they are not prettiest women, it is the
perfect disguise to get the group into the palace, because women are able to move
through society unseen, they are hidden because they are quiet and men to choose
not to pay attention to them unless they are noticing their beauty. In the end Mulan
saves the Emperor and all of China from the Huns, but it is not a male quality that
saves the day. Mulan does not use her strength or ability to fight to win as she did
in the other two versions of Mulan, instead she uses a quickly improvised plan to
send Shan Yu the Hun s leader flying into a pile of fireworks. Now dressed as a
woman and being perceived as her true gender Mulan suffers from the arbitrary sex
roles that have been enforced on women since the beginning of their lives. Mulan can
no longer be powerful in her strength and ability to fight, her only strength is in her
brain and her ability to manipulate a situation. Therefore, she must run away from
Shan Yu until she can think up a plan to defeat him, such as the
Essay on Review of Ordinary Resurrections by Jonathan
Kozol
Review of Ordinary Resurrections by Jonathan Kozol
In his book, Ordinary Resurrections: Children in the Years of Hope, Jonathan Kozol
pulls back the veil and provides readers with a glimpse of the harsh conditions and
unrelenting hope that exists in a community located in the South Bronx called Mott
Haven. Mr. Kozol provides his own socially conscious and very informative view of
the issues facing the children and educators in this poverty ravaged neighborhood.
Just his commentary would paint a very bleak picture of the future. It is the words of
the children that give this book optimism and meaning. The courage and care
exhibited by the volunteers of St. Ann s after school program and the creativity of the
teachers at P.S. 30... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kozol describes an intimate conversation with a group of children in the sanctuary of
St. Ann s in which several of the children reveal that they miss their fathers who are
in prison. One of the children, Elio, even fibs about his father coming home the
following week. Later he admits that this is not true but will not admit where his
father actually is.
During his time in the Mott Haven community, Kozol, at times, served as a father
figure for the children who yearn to share what is in their hearts with their own
fathers. Kozol eloquently describes his role, I once told another man I know, who
fills a role somewhat like mine among the children, that I felt we were like gleaners
in the Bible, not in fields of grain but in a field of love that can t be harvested by
those to whom the love rightly belongs. (Kozol 130). There are other men living in
Mott Haven that also fill that void. Several members of St. Ann s parish offer
supervision and support. Other men direct athletic programs giving boys and young
men an outlet and alternative to destructive activities. Still, this involvement cannot
quench the desire that the children express to be with their own fathers.
Kozol points out that it is the women of the community that play a more consistent
role in caring for and nurturing the children. Kozol quotes one of the men as saying
Women hold up the sky in this neighborhood. (Kozol 131). Mother Martha is the

They will have to cope with the intolerable loneliness, not having their loved ones

Some of the students will be overwhelmed by the immerse loneliness and return to

Spartan Defense Is Not Costing The Team A Championship

When it comes to the Michigan State defense the experts are writing them off as
not good enough to win a championship, they forget to look at refined statistics,
strength of schedule, and the overall talent level of the defense as an entirety. It is
hardly advertised that of the six teams that Michigan State has played this year, not
one, but two, Oregon and Air Force, are ranked in the top 6 of overall rush offense,
according to the official website of the NCAA. To Oregon, who is averaging 318.7
rush yards per game, Michigan State ceded only 123 rush yards on 43 attempts.
The Spartan team was similarly able to only allow Oregon one rushing touchdown,
which is two scores less than their per game average. However, if you were to
eliminate the Michigan State game rushing stats and only conduct rushing stats
for Oregon s other 5 games, they would be averaging 357.8 yards per game which
would rank them second in the country. While air force did manage to obtain a
value closer to their yards per game average of 335.4 yards per game falling 57
yards shy. While this does not seem all that impressive, it is imperative to realize that
with the triple option scheme that Air Force runs a lot of rushing yards are going to
be given up, what was vital was to limit the touchdowns allowed through the running,
which Michigan State was able to succeed in only allowing two rushing touchdowns,
holding them to
The Analog Clock Hanged On Our Living Room Wall
When I was a child, I was always fond of the time. I remember asking my mother
Mommy, what time is it? tens of times a day. After I learnt how to read numbers,
she got me my first watch. It was a digital watch manufactured by Casio and I felt in
love with it. When I started Grade 3, I said to myself that I am now a big girl and I
wanted a watchsimilar to my mother s analog watch. My mother told me that she
would get me one under one condition: I have to know how to read an analog
watch. I went to my father and asked him if he was willing to teach me how to read
the analog clock hanged on our living room wall. He said Okay! Since I had a
digital watch before, I had some realization regarding time. I already knew that
every day consists of 12 daylight hours and 12 night hours and that every hour
consists of 60 minutes. Such knowledge helped me to quickly understand that the
numbers one through 12 that are printed at evenly spaced intervals on the perimeter
of the clock face indicate the hour. It also authorized me to grasp that the 60 small
lines equally spaced in a circle around the outside of the clock dial represent the
minutes. In spite of my little comprehension, I had many questions that needed
answers. The first question that puzzled me was about the clock hands. I recall
asking my father, Daddy, what are these two pointers? He informed me that they are
called the clock hands. He also asked me to notice that their lengths are different.
Afterwards, he told me
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Beauveria
Beauveria is well known genera of Entomopathogenic fungi. It is worldwide
registered for its mycoinsecticides properties. Beauveria bassiana (Bb) and
Beauveria brongniarti are used to control insect pests (5). Beauveria bassiana is a
filamentous fungus which belongs to the class Deuteromycete, that grow naturally in
soil. It acts as pathogen to various insects and causes white muscardine disease (6

human diseases (11). Wang et al., (12) and Liz et al., (13) reported that Bb is used to

Beauvericin is a cyclooligomer depsipeptide ionophore that helps in the transportation

combinatorial therapies (22). Along with above functions, In 2004 Jow et al., (23)
reported beauvericin as a broad spectrum antiproliferative agent which fight against
different human cancer cell lines by activating calcium sensitive cellular apoptotic

for the formation of new blood vessels in case of on tumor or cancer tissues at

Comparing Thomas Hobbes And John Locke Laws Of
Nature
The Laws of Nature
Both Hobbes and Locke come up with their own versions of the laws of nature. A
law of nature is a general rule that is come to by reason and common sense. Unlike
a civil law, the laws of nature don t have to be written down. These laws are just put
into place by basic human reason. The laws of nature are thought of when talking
about the state of nature. Both Hobbes and Locke discuss the state of nature, but see
it in different ways, resulting in different laws of nature per the two philosophers.
Hobbes sees the state of nature as a horrible place where fear rules every person
living inside of it. In his book Leviathan , he concluded that men must seek peace to
preserve their own life. Because of this Hobbes says that the first law of nature is, ...

This mutual transferring of rights is called a contract and becomes the basis for
moral obligation per Hobbes. The third law of nature states that we can to just make
contracts but must hold to every one of our contracts
(Hobbes, 324). This law of nature leads to the foundation of the concept of justice .
Hobbes accounts of the laws of nature affect his overall political philosophy by
making him see the state of nature as an unforgiving place of war and that men
should do everything possible to escape it.
He believed that even when under a government that is corrupt and oppressive, would
be better that being under no government at all and being in the state of nature.
In the Second Treatise of Civil Rights , Locke sees the state of nature as a place of
equality, where no one has power over the other and all can do whatever it is that
they want.
However, this liberty still does not give someone the right to do harm on to another
(Locke, 365).
He determines from this statement that natural law exist in the state of nature. He
says that each person in the state of nature has the power to follow through with
natural laws which are
The Roman And Roman Rome
The Roman Catacombs
Rome today is a bustling and diverse city teeming with history and culture that dates
back to thousands of years. This rich cultural intertwine is evident with its seeming
myriad of historical monuments, relics, and construction that allude to various
ancient cultures. Rome s ground level environment is truly an architectural, cultural,
and spiritual hearth for things of the past; however, this area is truly only the tip of
the iceberg . Underneath Rome s floors lies a seemingly unending expanse of tunnels
and chambers that makeup The Roman Catacombs. Inside the cavernous pathways
of Rome s catacombs is a plethora of religious and cultural history that provides
historians today with an unfathomable source of early Roman and Christian history.
Regardless of discrepancies over its use and origins, the Roman catacombs are
indispensable for providing insight on the culture, beliefs, and social location of early
Christians. Due to the Roman Catacomb s ancient origins, there are several
discrepancies concerning aspects of the catacombs origin and use. However, there are
several elements of this architectural wonder that are generally accepted among
scientists and archaeologists today. The Roman Catacombs are generally accepted to
have begun construction in the early third century, and stopped use around the fifth
century ( 339 Nature. com). These figures are attained through radiometric dating of

Once in front of the white male judge, it took less than 2 minutes for the entire
proceedings to occur. There was an obvious feeling of men against the female
prosecutor, which in turn led to a change in statute of the defense lawyer. When she
stood, she step slightly back, away from the desk, behind her accused. She appeared
to diminish in front of my eyes. The prosecutor read the charge, and explained that
the charge had been changed. At that moment, the judge looked up at the young man
and lectured him on the dangers of driving. The lawyer stepped backwards a little
more, as if she was fearful of the situation. This judge was discriminated against this
young man because of his age and sex. As Pamela George states, The
disqualifications of racialized victims is systemic throughout the criminal justice
system (Chan Dorothy, 2014, p.35), which further supported when the judge asked
the prosecutor if they were sure they didn t wanted to keep the original charge, and
offered to make the correction. Further stating, this would be a good lesson for the
young man (2014).
This judge is suppose to be impartial , neutrality and provide objectivity (Comack,
2014, p. 11) which is the backbone of the legal system, which provides the notion of
legal positivism (Comack, 2014, p. 12). This judge used his power in the

Shortage Of Nurses In The Lives Of Their Patients
Nurses are champions. That is how Fraser (2014) describes the role of nurses in the
lives of their patients. Nurses provide more than just frontline care and treatment,
they are patient advocates that teach prevention, promote health, conduct research,
and enhance the overall quality of their patients lives. In the changing atmosphere of
healthcare, Fraser believes it will be nurses who play a major role in shaping future
policy.
Implications for the current worldwide shortage of nurses are numerous, especially
since nurses play one of the most important roles in the health care process. The
American Association of Critical Care Nurses (2005) notes that there is a direct
correlation between positive patient outcomes and the quality of a nurses work
environment. Atefi et al. (2014) agree with this information, writing that one of the
most important factors impacting job satisfaction among nurses is their work
environment. Research shows that long hours, heavy workloads, and uneven nurse/
patient ratios negatively impact the nurse/patient relationship (Atefi et al., 2014). In
order to effectively meet the needs of patients and minimize errors appropriate
staffing levels must be met.
Another important factor that points to the necessity of passing The National
Nursing Shortage Reform and Patient Advocacy Act (В§ 864, 2015 2016) relates to
preventable errors. A shortage of nursing staff in the health environment increases the
likelihood of errors occurring. Nurses who

After the pro rich neo liberalism emerged triumphant, people who are at the helm
of affairs appear to be obsessed with only one thing that is ease of doing business .
Every year the World Bank releases the ease of doing business index in which it
ranks countries on the basis of their business friendliness. If a country wants to prove
that it is businessfriendly it has to listen to the World Bank, which is the custodian of
the big businesses.
Now the question arises as to what exactly the big businesses want? Though they cite
some cleverly worded performance indicators to compile the index, their true
intention appears to be something else. They want land at throw away prices even if

It appears that the government s efforts to improve the ease of doing business have
paid off and India leapfrogged to 100th position in the index, which triggered a
euphoria among the politicians, business tycoons and the press. Now, the government
is gearing itself up to present it as one of its biggest achievements.
Well, they have the ease of doing businesses . Now the question is when will the
poor and the downtrodden have the ease of living index ? Their daily lives have
become too laborious and stressful and they are leading agonizingly painful lives in
squalid conditions. Their children don t have enough food to eat. In the recently
released Global Hunger Index (GHI) India featured at 100 th position among the 119
countries, lagging behind even the North Korea ruled by a despotic regime and the
war torn Iraq.
In spite of all this grinding poverty, our governments have progressively been
reducing the welfare spending in the name of maintaining fiscal prudence. They say
that the credit rating agencies may downsize our sovereign credit rating if we don t

don t think about the same fiscal prudence while announcing the so called measures
to spur the growth . As part of the measures they give bailouts to big businesses in the

Meniere s Disease Analysis
Meniere s disease is a chronic, debilitating disorder of the inner ear characterized by
acute attacks of vertigo usually accompanied by unilateral hearing loss, tinnitus and
fullness or pressure in the inner ear [2]. The cause of MD has not been determined
but the symptoms appear to be related to the excess accumulation or abnormal
composition of endolymph in the inner ear. Evidence suggests that chromogranin A
(Cg A) and vasostatin 1 (VS 1), a Cg A fragment, have been found to play an
important role in the endothelial barrier function. Cg A can be used, along with other
testing modalities, as a diagnostic tool, but caution is advised since it is elevated in
many other conditions. However, Cg A might have some prognostic significance.[1]

between now and the past is that babies currently have more chances of survival.
This paper will discuss a few components: the history of premature babies, impact
of knowledge and technology and the nurses that take care of premature babies.
We have the advancement in technology to thank for that. Today there are still
some cases where the baby might be born and still be too underdeveloped and die
even with technology. For example, I have a friend that had a baby a few months
ago at nineteen weeks gestation and neither one of the baby s lungs were
developed so she died. They told her that since she was so early that there was no
way to save the baby even if they attempted to. The reason this subject means so
much to me is because I also had a premature baby. My son came at twenty seven
weeks gestation and stayed in the hospital for eleven weeks. Although he came early
he survived and I am forever grateful for that. Technology and Vanderbilt played a
big part in that. Premature care was very rare but is now standard.
History of the NICU World
It is known that you might not be able to control or prevent preterm birth therefore
improving the infant s health and quality of life is the goal. The knowledge and
technology was not available to keep the babies alive. Once a child is born premature
they are placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In the early 20th century
premature birth was the
The Intertropical Convergence Zone Plays a Large Role in...
The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is a permanent low pressure feature
that lies on the meteorological equator. It is characterisied by lots of cloud cover
and precipitation (Andrews et al., 2003). The ITCZ plays a significant role in the
climate and weather events in the tropics. The clouds created by the ITCZ also
provide an important form of albedo in the tropics (Waliser and Gautier, 1993),which
has an effect on global climate. Tropical events such as monsoonand cyclones occur
in the ITCZ and are products of the unique convection system found around the ITCZ
(Yancheva et al., 2007, Ferreira and Schubert, 1997).The ITCZ is a product of humid
trade winds from the northern and southern hemisphere converging and then rising.
This rising of humid air usually results in precipitationover the tropics(Waliser and
Somerville, 1994). This rising of the humid air acts as the driving force in the
Hadley Cell (Waliser and Somerville, 1994). The ITCZ is a product of high levels of
solar radiation and high amounts of latent heat released from the ocean (Andrews et
al., 2003). It is important to realize that the ITCZ moves throughout the year
depending on the seasons, it is likely to be found in the southern hemisphere in the
southern hemisphere summer and in the northern hemisphere during the northern
hemispheres summer. However the ITCZ is more likely to be found in the Northern
hemisphere (Waliser and Somerville, 1994). The ITCZ plays a large role in many of

Freedom Of Information, Opinion And Expression
12 Years A Slave and Hunger two are films by highly acclaimed director Steve
McQueen. 12 years a Slave deals with the inequality and injustice that shook the
African American Nation before the civil war. The film forces viewers to face the
harsh reality of slavery while also being an unflinching look at human brutality and is
an incredibly vivid and authentic portrayal of American slavery. His other film,
Hunger, deals with the political injustice and unfairness experienced by the Northern
Ireland republican prisoners, who were refused to be labelled as political prisoners;
including the lengths that they were willing to go to in order to receive justice and
freedom of information, opinion and expression. The two films have a common
theme of facing and overcoming injustice and inequality, which can be seen as a
reflection on McQueen s values and highlight the experiences and unjust and often
unfair lifestyle that McQueen experienced while growing up and becoming the artist
he is today.
McQueens first full length feature film, Hunger, begins with a prison officer,
Raymon Lohan, starting to begin his journey to work. The audience is shown
glimpses into his every day routines, including washing his bloody knuckles, having
a cigarette and searching the underside of his car for possible bombs. Through these
clips Margaret Thatchers condescending tone rings over the short snapshots of daily
life for Lohan. There s no such thing as political murder, political bombing or
Women s Impact On American History
In today s society, fraternities and sororities have been known to have major
impressions on students who attend college. In some cases, Greek organizations and
their standings at universities aid in determining ones choice for higher education.
For example, some schools are known for sports, others are known for their Black
Greek Letter Organizations. When it comes to fraternities and sororitiesin general, the
topic could seem somewhat controversial due to mixed emotions and beliefs. While
attending an HBCU (Historically Black College and University) the accusations of
Greeks running the yard became vividly true. The topic of research to be discussed
is objectification, power and the perception of African Americans affiliated with
sororities and fraternities at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The country s verifiably Black Greek letter associations (BGLOs), by and large
alluded to as the Divine Nine, have had fundamental impact in American history.
Since each association s establishing all through the 20th century, Black organizations
and sororities have not just given African Americans with a group to uplift each other,
they have additionally made striking commitments to society, especially in the ranges
of social liberties, social welfare and governmental issues.
The rundown of trailblazing African Americans who have hailed from BGLOs

Many choose to install tiles in entrances, toilets, bathrooms, laundries, and kitchens.
As an impermeable and very durable floor material, tiles work well in these areas.
Thanks to the tiles on the site, you do not have to worry about the damage caused by
water, pollution or other fluids and you know that the soil will last many years.
If you choose to install a flooring at home, you will get the added benefit of making

floors can be an element that separates your home from the public. If you do not

In other places of the house where you do not have to worry about moisture,
installing wooden floors is an excellent choice. Hardwood floors are as durable as

To Kill A Mockingbird Nell s Childhood
Harper Lee, known by many as Nelle , was very independent and brave. She kept
to herself and lived her life according to herself. No one else besides the people she
loved and lived for. She never wanted others changing the way her life was lived.
Interviews were never allowed by her so it was always very difficult for people to
understand her way of living from her point of view. She was passionate about her
writings and future of being a lawyer, Lee was also sensible about her surroundings
and others. Bravery comes in many different forms as everyone should perceive. It
comes in ways like, serving our country, standing up for others, and other simple
ways. Throughout Nelle s entire childhood, she showed tremendous amounts of
bravery. Not once did any of the people associated with Nelle have to fight difficult
battles on their own. Truman Capote, Nelle s best friend, from her childhood, was the
person she stood up for the most. No matter how many scraps and scrapes they...

Accountability Within The United States Marine Corps
Accountability by definition means the quality or state of being accountable;
especially : an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for
one s actions. Accountability stems from late Latin accomptare (to account), a
prefixed form of computare (to calculate), which in turn derived from putare (to
reckon). While the word itself does not appear in English until its use in 13th
century Norman England, the concept of account giving has ancient roots in
record keeping activities related to governance and money lending systems that
first developed in Ancient Egypt, Israel, Babylon, Greece, and later, Rome. In the
United States Marine Corps it is very important to hold yourself accountable for all
actions especially true the longer you are in. To myself it refers to the obligation
of an individual to report formally to his superiors for the proper discharge of his
responsibility. It is the answer ability of a subordinate to render an account of his
activities to his superior. The person who accepts responsibility is accountable for
the performance of the assigned duties. As such being late to work is a direct
violation of accountability. Forgetting ones required materials for work may seem
small and harmless but overall may develop into bigger issues if not dealt with
accordingly. Accountability is not an abstract concept. It is actually extremely simple.
Accountability means saying what you mean, meaning what you say, and doing what
you say you re
Benedick Foil
Foils are common in any books, whether it s the antagonist bringing out the best in
the antagonist or the protagonist bringing out the worst in the antagonist. Foils are
everywhere. In Much Ado About Nothing written by William Shakespeare, almost
all of the characters can foil each other in some way or another. In the beginning,
Claudio is falling for Hero on the day the meet. Hero is Leonato s Daughter. The
people throw a masquerade ball later that night where Claudio is deceived by Don
John that Don Pedro is wooing Hero for himself. Luckily for Claudio this rumor is
false, and Claudio and Hero were going to married in a week. Then Claudio is
deceived once again by Don John that Hero is cheating on him, on the night before
the wedding. Then on the wedding day he publicly shames Hero. In the end though,
they realize the truth and end up getting married alongside Benedick and Beatrice. In

While they do end up changing traits as more things happen to them , they foil
each other anyways. After Claudio shames Hero at his wedding he wanders off.
Enter Benedick about to challenge him to a duel. Claudio tells Benedick Draw
pleasure to us. (Shakespeare,86). The foil here is Claudio being particularly
mopey after he just shamed his wife at his wedding. Benedick treats Beatrice with
respect and would presumably ask her about it before the wedding and rationalize
what s going on. Earlier in the book Benedick says, I noted her not, but I looked on
her. (Shakespeare,6). While this may contradict what I just said, this is toward the
beginning of the book when he only loved himself. At the same time during this
quote Claudio is confessing his love for Hero. To Claudio that could be a little
insulting. Luckily towards the end of the book Benedick becomes a much better

Symbolism In The Jungle
While The Jungle had a wide range of imagery throughout the book, of putrid
slums and the rancid factories, pictures would have benefited the book and its
purpose greatly. Lacking pictures as guides, readers are left to their own
imagination as they conjure up visions of the conditions of the atrocious
Packingtown. Many readers, whether past or current, do not have experience in this
industry and therefore do not truly understand the conditions and toils of the
workers. Pictures help the reader see, as close to first hand as possible, the horrors
and struggles of day to day life for many packers, and would evoke greater passion in
the public, encouraging the purpose of the book. Another addition that should be
made is a character chart. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Located at the beginning of the book, the wedding scene was skillfully crafted and
set an excellent precedent for the rest of the book. Just as in the beginning of the
wedding, the immigrant family was overjoyed at the prospect of coming to America
and creating a new life for themselves. Throughout the wedding, unknown guests and
even well known guests began to abuse the privileges granted at the wedding, such as
the unlimited food and free alcohol. Once they have had their fill, they exit and leave
the horrendous bill with the couple. This symbolism connects to the corruption of the
people living in Packington. Many workers take any chance they can lay their hands
on the climb the ladder of success, ignoring the path of destruction they leave behind.
Another praise for Upton Sinclair is the intricate description of characters and
settings. Living the slums, the family s boardinghouse, and eventual house, is
described in extreme detail. This helps support the horrible conditions Sinclair is
attempting to show his audience. He also describes the various jobs of Jurgis with
an abundance of imagery. This imagery shocks readers and brands an image of
disgustingness in the minds of the audience. The symbolism and imagery help to
prove Sinclair s purpose, which was to expose the evils of corruption that were
running rampant across American industries and promote the cure of

Which Instructional Design Model
The design model that I will use is multiple intelligences. The major goal of this
theory is to foster understanding in ways that takes advantage of the different
learners intelligences. All learners do not learn information the same way, and
instructors need to understand that they must be diverse in their teaching to ensure
that learners are able to be engaged with topics that they are teaching.
Assumptions about Multiple Intelligences
With multiple intelligence, students come to school with different educational needs.
Not all students learn the same way so as an educator, one needs to be able to teach
multiple ways on a single topic to ensure that all students have been engaged. There
are multiple ways to teach a single topic, however, Gardner focused on three
approaches:
1.Entry points
2.Telling Analogies
3.Approaching the core (Reigeluth, 2013).
Entry points
To engage students in understating a topic, there are 6 entry points to consider in
multiple intelligences (Reigeluth, 2013). Not all learners are the same and as an
instructor is good to individualize your lessons to tap into students in different ways
because not all learn the same way. The following are the entry points that Howard
Gardner states, however, he states that the model that he uses is not to be considered
as a learning style (Reigeluth, 2013).
Narratives is an entry point used for students who enjoy hearing topics discuss

The Street Gang In LETB
In LETB, Harry is scapegoated by the roving street gang. Harry commits the
horrendous act of molesting a young boy, however that is not grounds for dismissing
his death as justice according to Girard s theory. This is further proved because Selby
has the street gang murder him. Throughout the section Strike , they show constant
disdain for Harry and use him for beer and food. The importance of the street gangs
role as the scapegoaters , is that they show homosexual tendencies throughout the
novel. However here, they call Harry a freak and abuse him (176). After they crucify
him, they go into the bathroom of the Greeks, seemingly happier than they had been
since they beat a sailor up in Another Day, Another Dollar . In both the incident with
the sailor and with Harry, questions of masculinity and impotence were the forefront
causes for the street gang s violence. This suggests that Selby shows their inability
to come to terms with their own sexuality; and how it is much easier to strike out
than accept their feelings, as seen in above in the chapter on Hypermasculinity .
The rape of the prostitute Tralala is also suggestive of this, as it seems to include
most of the males in Sunset Park. They come together to violently rape her,
seemingly to take out their own feelings of inferiority and impotence on her. Like
with Girard s sexually aggressive goat , Tralala is chosen because she is seen as an
abject woman. In the conservative conforming world of 1950s America ,
Survival Of The Sickest Analysis
In Survival of the Sickest by Dr. Sharon Moalem and Jonathan Prince, the authors
prove that modern day diseases were actually vital survival traits for our ancestors.
Traits of certain passed on diseases that we would now normally consider deadly or
unhealthy helped humans adapt to other sicknesses and problems. Diabetes, favism,
and hemochromatosis are three examples of how hereditary diseases have once
helped humans survive in the past. Diabests mellitus, commonly known as diabetes,
is a diseasethat disturbs insulin, a hormone in the pancreas, from storing sugar in the
liver or other parts of the body. This inability results in an overload of sugar in one s
bloodstream. Untreated, diabetes can lead to rapid dehydration, coma, and death ...

Los Angeles And Chicago Angeles
Los Angeles and Chicago are two American cities that have a long history with gang
violence. In the 1940 s the city of Los Angeles was experiencing a significant boom
in the African American and Latino populations. During this time, there was also a
massive influx of Caucasians into the Los Angeles area. The Caucasians wanted to
keep African Americans and Latinos who they called Zoot Suiters out of their
neighborhoods, so they formed a white gangcalled the Spook Hunters . The formation
of the Spook Hunters increased racial tensions in Los Angelesexponentially and
caused a surge in violence between the white gang members and ethnic minorities.
During this time period the Ku Klux Klan had an active presence in the white
neighborhoods of Los Angeles which significantly increased racial tensions. In the
1950 s and 1960 s African American and Latino gangs expanded and became more
territorial and violent. To this date gang related violence remains a constant in the
day to day lives of Los Angeles residents. Chicago history of gangs begins in 1860 s
with Caucasians of different ethnic backgrounds. A pivotal moment in race relations
in Chicago occurred when Regan Colts, a white gang, drowned an African American
boy in Lake Michigan on July 27th, 1919 (White 25). This incident led to the first
racial riots in Chicago where gang members openly attacked each other. Since that
incident Chicago has experienced ongoing gang violence. In fact in Chicago gang
related violence appears

in ancient days. In the 19th century natural dyes obtained from the plants and animal
parts were the main colourants for fabrics. The natural dyes present in plants and

and environment is increased nowadays. There is a greater need today to revive the
importance of natural dyeand dyeing techniques as an alternative to synthetic dyes. In
the present scenario, the interest in the use of natural dyes has been growing rapidly
due to severe environmental standards resulted in avoiding the synthetic dyes,
causing ill effects. These standards are framed by many countries in response to toxic

A Feather Dipped in Gold in Movie Miracle
A Feather Dipped In Gold
On February 22, 1980, the United States men s national hockey team beat the Soviet
Union National team at the Winter Olympics taking place at Lake Placid, New York.
To this day, that upset is considered by many to be the greatest moment in sports
history. It was such an awe inspiring moment, that it earned the nickname, The
Miracle On Ice . As such, it should be no surprise that a movie portraying that miracle
was made. The movie, aptly called Miracle, chronicles the assembly of the team as
seen fit by Coach Herb Brooks, and the trials and glory of the young team. It really
is a one of the great underdog stories, a story about coming together and reaching for
the stars or gold in this case. The movie is also a great depiction of relationships.
From initiating to maintaining them, this movie covers it. In this essay, I will detail
three different types of relationships that were presented in Miracle.
The friendship between the guys on Team U.S.A. took a while to cultivate. The
players were fresh out of college which meant most of them had either played
together or against each other. What should have been forgotten collegiate rivalries
were not. The poster boys for the continued hostilities were Jack O Callahan of
Boston College and Rob McClanahan of the University of Minnesota. Jack O
Callahan was still holding a grudge over a Championship game in college that had
been played against Rob McClanahan s team. That led to a somewhat
Summary Of Savitar s Running Fast
Savitar is clearly a speedster just like the Flash. However, I do not believe that
Savitar uses the speed force exactly like Barry does. Barry s use of the speed force
allows him to break the time barrier. Breaking the time barrier allows Barry to time
travel. In the second to last episode of the Flash that premiered before this article
was written(which was the seventh episode of the third season) Savitar
demonstrated that he is fast enough to make it seem like he is appearing and
reappearing in different places over and over again. Cisco and the rest of the
characters assume that Savitar is, in fact, running fast enough for Barry s suit tracker
to show that he is seemingly teleporting. Here is where my theory comes into play.
What if Cisco and the rest of Team Flashare wrong?... Show more content on

I believe that Savitar is actually using the speed force in a way that is drastically
different than the way that Barry uses the speed force. Now, the way that Barry
uses the speed force is a topic for a different day, but he clearly does not use it in
the same way that Savitar seems to use it. I think that Savitar teleports by breaking
the space barrier. When Barry time travels, he opens a portal into the speed force,
enters the speed force, and then emerges in a point in time of his choosing. What
Savitar seems to be doing is opening a portal to the speed force, entering the portal,
and then emerging at a point in space of his choosing. This explains why
everything looks like it does in the speed force when Savitar runs. It looks like
Savitar is in the speed force because he is in the speed force. This means that
Savitar may not actually be much faster than Barry. In fact, if we attribute his
victory over Barry in the beginning of the seventh episode to Barry being caught off
guard and Barry being distracted by both Dr. Alchemy and his want to protect the
people around him, then Savitar might actually not be as fast as

Hesiod And Homer
In ancient Greece, the two poets Hesiod and Homer wrote dramatic stories outlining
the nature of the Greek gods with their main works Theogony and The Iliad. They
each offer descriptions of order, morality, and justice in the world, but there is a stark
difference between each author s work; Homer s mythology features much more
authoritative deities than Hesiod s, ultimately establishing a more political, absolutist
social order. The gods interactions with each other and with the human world are what
define these properties alongside each poet s ethical approach. Considering the poets
share a pantheon in their poems, it is no surprise that some specific characters remain
unchanged. Zeusis consistently treated as the leading deity. While... Show more

Homer s idea of justice begins to form: clearly what the gods (and by extension,
humans) value is honor and glory. Individuals, mortal and immortal alike, will act
in defense of their honor if provoked. For those in power, like King Agamemnon
and Apollo, what constitutes provocation seems to be at their own discretion.
Those with lower status must appeal to higher powers if they have any hope of
instigating change. A political hierarchy is established in accordance with Homer s
version of justice. The poet Pindar writes with Homer s ideology: Mortal minds
must seek what is fitting/ at the hands of the gods,/ knowing what lies at our feet
/ and to what portion we are born. Ultimately, Homer s idea of justice is simply that
each person deserves specific honor and respect, depending on that person s status.
That status is the amount of political power the individual holds. Apollo is more
powerful than the human king Agamemnon, therefore he demands more honor. Zeus
is even more powerful and therefore rightfully (according to Homer) deserves even
more respect. The distinction between Homer and Hesiod grows continuously
evident when Hesiod s morality is examined in Theogony. Here, the world s order is
shown in the conflicts at the beginning of the poem. The primal deities Earth and

Slavery During The Twentieth Century
Jeremy Black has recently stated slavery played a major role in the twentieth century.
The twentieth century, he argues, witnessed a highpoint in slavery as it rose to a new
peak. He defines slavery as being public which differs from the conventional account
of enslavement, economic exploitation and racism. For Black, the conventional
account of slaveryhas been easier to define and confront. This dissertation through the
work of three authors: Buchi Emecheta, Ayi Kwei Armah and Tayeb Salih aims to act
as a corrective to approaches similar to Black s theory, that slavery has been easily
defined, by demonstrating the tension between remembering and forgetting history.
The twentieth century narratives trace the history of the Atlantic slave tradethrough
contemporary Africa, reflecting the role of slavery in present day. The works unearth
remnants of the past in order to locate African memories in literature and bring them
forth from the margins of history. Each author originates from different geographical
locations in Africa, which allows various forms of slavery to emerge in the narratives,
representing slavery as continuing to haunt the African psyche.
In tracing transatlantic slave trade literature, Achille Mbembe states, there is,
properly speaking no African memory presenting the void of African voices in the
history of the slave trade. The memories depicted in literature are as Paul Connerton
claims remembered by those in power demonstrating the

Narrative Essays Sample. Personal Narrative Essay Examples

  • 1. Narrative Essays Sample Writing an essay on the topic "Narrative Essays Sample" can be quite challenging for several reasons. Firstly, crafting a narrative essay requires a deep understanding of storytelling techniques and the ability to engage readers through a compelling narrative arc. On the one hand, with the emergence of the nation state and theories of sovereignty in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, ideas of a distinctly public realm began to crystallize. On the other hand, in reaction to the claims of monarchs and, later, parliaments to the unrestrained power to make law, there developed a countervailing effort to stake out distinctively private spheres free from the encroaching power of the state. Natural rights theories were elaborated in the seventeenth century for the purpose of setting limits on state power, both over property and religious conscience(3). Many philosophers such as Locke, Miller, and Paine, and Kant argue for these rights due to the fact that there was a great social awakening and a growing urge to question the legitimacy of leadership. On these basis stood the foundation of classical liberalism. Classical Liberalism prioritizes above all things complete and total individual liberty. Believers in Classical Liberalism assert that it must be served in completeness because any lack of it creates citizens that are willingly dependent on the government. It is imperative to understand that Classical Liberalism does not call for complete anarchy or even no government at all like Libertarian Anarchists do, but rather a small government. Thomas Paine describes this idea as Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst

Both devices have the capability to record events. Either of those could have been used as evidence against Zimmerman, and might have been enough for the jury to find him guilty of murder. Nurses provide more than just frontline care and treatment, they are patient advocates that teach prevention, promote health, conduct research, and enhance the overall quality of their patients lives. In the changing atmosphere of healthcare, Fraser believes it will be nurses who play a major role in shaping future policy. Implications for the current worldwide shortage of nurses are numerous, especially since nurses play one of the most important roles in the health care process. The American Association of Critical Care Nurses (2005) notes that there is a direct correlation between positive patient outcomes and the quality of a nurses work environment. Atefi et al. Research shows that long hours, heavy workloads, and uneven nurse/ patient ratios negatively impact the nurse/patient relationship (Atefi et al., 2014). We have the advancement in technology to thank for that. Today there are still some cases where the baby might be born and still be too underdeveloped and die even with technology. Tropical events such as monsoonand cyclones occur in the ITCZ and are products of the unique convection system found around the ITCZ (Yancheva et al., 2007, Ferreira and Schubert, 1997).The ITCZ is a product of humid trade winds from the northern and southern hemisphere converging and then rising. This rising of humid air usually results in precipitationover the tropics(Waliser and Somerville, 1994). This rising of the humid air acts as the driving force in the Hadley Cell (Waliser and Somerville, 1994). The ITCZ is a product of high levels of solar radiation and high amounts of latent heat released from the ocean (Andrews et al., 2003). It is important to realize that the ITCZ moves throughout the year depending on the seasons, it is likely to be found in the southern hemisphere in the southern hemisphere summer and in the northern hemisphere during the northern hemispheres summer. However the ITCZ is more likely to be found in the Northern hemisphere (Waliser and Somerville, 1994). The ITCZ plays a large role in many of the climatic

Freedom Of Information, Opinion And Expression 12 Years A Slave and Hunger two are films by highly acclaimed director Steve McQueen. 12 years a Slave deals with the inequality and injustice that shook the African American Nation before the civil war. The film forces viewers to face the harsh reality of slavery while also being an unflinching look at human brutality and is an incredibly vivid and authentic portrayal of American slavery. His other film, Hunger, deals with the political injustice and unfairness experienced by the Northern Ireland republican prisoners, who were refused to be labelled as political prisoners; including the lengths that they were willing to go to in order to receive justice and freedom of information, opinion and expression. The two films have a common theme of facing and overcoming injustice and inequality, which can be seen as a reflection on McQueen s values and highlight the experiences and unjust and often unfair lifestyle that McQueen experienced while growing up and becoming the artist he is today. McQueens first full length feature film, Hunger, begins with a prison officer, Raymon Lohan, starting to begin his journey to work. The audience is shown glimpses into his every day routines, including washing his bloody knuckles, having a cigarette and searching the underside of his car for possible bombs. Through these clips Margaret Thatchers condescending tone rings over the short snapshots of daily life for Lohan. There s no such thing as political murder, political bombing or

When it comes to fraternities and sororitiesin general, the topic could seem somewhat controversial due to mixed emotions and beliefs. Accountability Within The United States Marine Corps Accountability by definition means the quality or state of being accountable; especially : an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one s actions. Accountability stems from late Latin accomptare (to account), a prefixed form of computare (to calculate), which in turn derived from putare (to reckon). While the word itself does not appear in English until its use in 13th century Norman England, the concept of account giving has ancient roots in record keeping activities related to governance and money lending systems that first developed in Ancient Egypt, Israel, Babylon, Greece, and later, Rome. In the United States Marine Corps it is very important to hold yourself accountable for all actions especially true the longer you are in. Symbolism In The Jungle While The Jungle had a wide range of imagery throughout the book, of putrid slums and the rancid factories, pictures would have benefited the book and its purpose greatly. Lacking pictures as guides, readers are left to their own imagination as they conjure up visions of the conditions of the atrocious Packingtown. Many readers, whether past or current, do not have experience in this industry and therefore do not truly understand the conditions and toils of the workers. Pictures help the reader see, as close to first hand as possible, the horrors and struggles of day to day life for many packers, and would evoke greater passion in the public, encouraging the purpose of the book. Another addition that should be made is a character chart. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as in the beginning of the wedding, the immigrant family was overjoyed at the prospect of coming to America and creating a new life for themselves. Throughout the wedding, unknown guests and even well known guests began to abuse the privileges granted at the wedding, such as the unlimited food and free alcohol. Once they have had their fill, they exit and leave the horrendous bill with the couple. This symbolism connects to the corruption of the people living in Packington. Many workers take any chance they can lay their hands on the climb the ladder of success, ignoring the path of destruction they leave behind. Another praise for Upton Sinclair is the intricate description of characters and settings. Living the slums, the family s boardinghouse, and eventual house, is described in extreme detail. This imagery shocks readers and brands an image of disgustingness in the minds of the audience. The symbolism and imagery help to prove Sinclair s purpose, which was to expose the evils of corruption that were running rampant across American industries and promote the cure of

All learners do not learn information the same way, and instructors need to understand that they must be diverse in their teaching to ensure that learners are able to be engaged with topics that they are teaching. Assumptions about Multiple Intelligences With multiple intelligence, students come to school with different educational needs. Not all students learn the same way so as an educator, one needs to be able to teach multiple ways on a single topic to ensure that all students have been engaged. There are multiple ways to teach a single topic, however, Gardner focused on three approaches: 1.Entry points 2.Telling Analogies 3.Approaching the core (Reigeluth, 2013). Entry points To engage students in understating a topic, there are 6 entry points to consider in multiple intelligences (Reigeluth, 2013). Not all learners are the same and as an instructor is good to individualize your lessons to tap into students in different ways because not all learn the same way. Narratives is an entry point used for students who enjoy hearing topics discuss through the

Harry commits the horrendous act of molesting a young boy, however that is not grounds for dismissing his death as justice according to Girard s theory. This is further proved because Selby has the street gang murder him. Throughout the section Strike , they show constant disdain for Harry and use him for beer and food. The importance of the street gangs role as the scapegoaters , is that they show homosexual tendencies throughout the novel. However here, they call Harry a freak and abuse him (176). After they crucify him, they go into the bathroom of the Greeks, seemingly happier than they had been since they beat a sailor up in Another Day, Another Dollar . In both the incident with the sailor and with Harry, questions of masculinity and impotence were the forefront causes for the street gang s violence. This suggests that Selby shows their inability to come to terms with their own sexuality; and how it is much easier to strike out than accept their feelings, as seen in above in the chapter on Hypermasculinity . The rape of the prostitute Tralala is also suggestive of this, as it seems to include most of the males in Sunset Park. They come together to violently rape her, seemingly to take out their own feelings of inferiority and impotence on her. Like with Girard s sexually aggressive goat , Tralala is chosen because she is seen as an abject woman. In the conservative conforming world of 1950s America ,

To this day, that upset is considered by many to be the greatest moment in sports history. It was such an awe inspiring moment, that it earned the nickname, The Miracle On Ice . As such, it should be no surprise that a movie portraying that miracle was made. The movie, aptly called Miracle, chronicles the assembly of the team as seen fit by Coach Herb Brooks, and the trials and glory of the young team. It really is a one of the great underdog stories, a story about coming together and reaching for the stars or gold in this case. The movie is also a great depiction of relationships. Jack O Callahan was still holding a grudge over a Championship game in college that had been played against Rob McClanahan s team. That led to a somewhat
  • 44. Summary Of Savitar s Running Fast Savitar is clearly a speedster just like the Flash. However, I do not believe that Savitar uses the speed force exactly like Barry does. Barry s use of the speed force allows him to break the time barrier. Breaking the time barrier allows Barry to time travel. In the second to last episode of the Flash that premiered before this article was written(which was the seventh episode of the third season) Savitar demonstrated that he is fast enough to make it seem like he is appearing and reappearing in different places over and over again. Cisco and the rest of the characters assume that Savitar is, in fact, running fast enough for Barry s suit tracker to show that he is seemingly teleporting. Here is where my theory comes into play. What if Cisco and the rest of Team Flashare wrong?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that Savitar is actually using the speed force in a way that is drastically different than the way that Barry uses the speed force. Now, the way that Barry uses the speed force is a topic for a different day, but he clearly does not use it in the same way that Savitar seems to use it. I think that Savitar teleports by breaking the space barrier. When Barry time travels, he opens a portal into the speed force, enters the speed force, and then emerges in a point in time of his choosing. What Savitar seems to be doing is opening a portal to the speed force, entering the portal, and then emerging at a point in space of his choosing. This explains why everything looks like it does in the speed force when Savitar runs. It looks like Savitar is in the speed force because he is in the speed force. This means that Savitar may not actually be much faster than Barry. In fact, if we attribute his victory over Barry in the beginning of the seventh episode to Barry being caught off guard and Barry being distracted by both Dr. Alchemy and his want to protect the people around him, then Savitar might actually not be as fast as

  • 46. Hesiod And Homer In ancient Greece, the two poets Hesiod and Homer wrote dramatic stories outlining the nature of the Greek gods with their main works Theogony and The Iliad. They each offer descriptions of order, morality, and justice in the world, but there is a stark difference between each author s work; Homer s mythology features much more authoritative deities than Hesiod s, ultimately establishing a more political, absolutist social order. The gods interactions with each other and with the human world are what define these properties alongside each poet s ethical approach. Considering the poets share a pantheon in their poems, it is no surprise that some specific characters remain unchanged. Zeusis consistently treated as the leading deity. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Homer s idea of justice begins to form: clearly what the gods (and by extension, humans) value is honor and glory. Individuals, mortal and immortal alike, will act in defense of their honor if provoked. For those in power, like King Agamemnon and Apollo, what constitutes provocation seems to be at their own discretion. Those with lower status must appeal to higher powers if they have any hope of instigating change. A political hierarchy is established in accordance with Homer s version of justice. The poet Pindar writes with Homer s ideology: Mortal minds must seek what is fitting/ at the hands of the gods,/ knowing what lies at our feet / and to what portion we are born. Ultimately, Homer s idea of justice is simply that each person deserves specific honor and respect, depending on that person s status. That status is the amount of political power the individual holds. Apollo is more powerful than the human king Agamemnon, therefore he demands more honor. Zeus is even more powerful and therefore rightfully (according to Homer) deserves even more respect. The distinction between Homer and Hesiod grows continuously evident when Hesiod s morality is examined in Theogony. Here, the world s order is shown in the conflicts at the beginning of the poem. The primal deities Earth and Ouranos begin
  • 47. Slavery During The Twentieth Century Jeremy Black has recently stated slavery played a major role in the twentieth century. The twentieth century, he argues, witnessed a highpoint in slavery as it rose to a new peak. He defines slavery as being public which differs from the conventional account of enslavement, economic exploitation and racism. For Black, the conventional account of slaveryhas been easier to define and confront. This dissertation through the work of three authors: Buchi Emecheta, Ayi Kwei Armah and Tayeb Salih aims to act as a corrective to approaches similar to Black s theory, that slavery has been easily defined, by demonstrating the tension between remembering and forgetting history. The twentieth century narratives trace the history of the Atlantic slave tradethrough contemporary Africa, reflecting the role of slavery in present day. The works unearth remnants of the past in order to locate African memories in literature and bring them forth from the margins of history. Each author originates from different geographical locations in Africa, which allows various forms of slavery to emerge in the narratives, representing slavery as continuing to haunt the African psyche. In tracing transatlantic slave trade literature, Achille Mbembe states, there is, properly speaking no African memory presenting the void of African voices in the history of the slave trade. The memories depicted in literature are as Paul Connerton claims remembered by those in power demonstrating the
