An adaptation is a characteristic that allows an organism to survive in its environment. There are three main types of adaptations: structural, physiological, and behavioral. Adaptations include physical traits like camouflaged feathers that help the tawny frogmouth blend into trees to avoid predators, as well as behavioral traits like ringtail possums being nocturnal to avoid predators that are active at night. Organisms are adapted to survive in their environments through traits related to finding food, protection from predators, and reproduction.
