Gender Socialisation Commences At Birth, Parental...
Gender socialisation commences at birth, parental conditioning and expectations are confirmed with
the introduction and expectations that girls play with dolls and boys play with trucks and cars. Girls
are seen as the homemakers whilst boys are guided more towards building, climbing and rough and
tumble play. This continues at primary school where girls are encouraged to wear dresses for their
uniforms and boys shorts or long pants. Boys are chastised if they cry and therefore learn to hold back
their emotions. This could result in excess anger and frustration manifesting into aggression and
possible labelling of the child (UNICEF, 2015). People who internalize the social norms of society are
less likely to commit misdemeanours or advocate drastic social changes. In all societies, however,
there are individuals who do not follow culturally defined standards and social norms. This could be
due to not having received adequate socialisation. These people are usually considered to be eccentric,
mentally ill or criminals and are likely to end up being incarcerated (Anthro.palomar.edu, 2015).
Teaching in the twenty first century classroom brings a multitude of values, ethics, morals, attitudes
and standards. Students are more likely to come from diverse backgrounds which could include single
parent, same sex parents or grandparents as primary carers. These factors will influence how children
are socialised in the child s microsystem, as defined by Bronfenbrenner (as cited in

Theme Of Flowers In Sons And Lovers
David Herbert Lawrence was born on 11 September, 1885 in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, England.
His father, named Arthur Lawrence, was a coal miner and his mother, Lydia Lawrence, worked in the
lace making industry. Lawrence was a noted author of novels, short stories, essays, plays and poems,
and is nowadays considered one of the most influential writers of the 20th century (Biography.com
Editors). One of his most acknowledged novels is Sons and Lovers , published in 1913, in which he
depicts the life of a working class family: The Morels. In this book, Lawrence employs symbols in
order to the help the reader understand the innermost feelings of each of the characters, as well as to
describe their main personality traits.
In first place, the use of flowers as a symbol of happiness is crucial for the understanding of Mrs
Gertrude Morel´s feelings. As she was unhappy and disappointed of the life she had, Mrs Morel tried
to find the peace and joy she needed by beholding flowers. This is portrayed in: The front garden was
a small square with a private hedge. There she stood trying to soothe herself with the scent of flowers
and the fading, beautiful evening (Lawrence, D.H. Sons and Lovers. England. Penguin Books, 1976.

Summary Of Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
According to Karl A. Menninger, Love cures people both the ones who give it and the ones who
receive it. In Scarlet Ibis , Brother and Doodle shared a special bond by the activities and lessons
Brother taught Doodle. Brother out of love taught Doodle how to walk, run, and jump even though
Doodle was never supposed to be able to do any of those activities. Doodle recieved Brothers love
through his actions and Doodle grew in his abilities. In Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst, Brother feels love,
pride, and guilt for how he treated his brother Doodle.

Brother was usually only thrilled when Doodle was pushing his maximum and exhausting himself to
the point where he could work no longer. Doodle was happy to make new progress but he was in no
hurry to rush to the next activity. In fact, Brother started teaching Doodle how to walk in the
beginning because he was embarrassed to pull Doodle around in the cart everywhere he went.(Hurst
466) Doodle required constant attention when going places and someone needed to pull him around.
Brother was most likely going to be the one to pull Doodle and take him wherever he needed to go.
Brother taught Doodle so he would not have to pull the cart around anymore. The summer program
for Doodle to improve his mobility was almost done by the time the thunderstorm reached Doodle and
Brother. Brother abandoned Doodle in the thunderstorm to save himself. After the storm had gone
past, Brother went back for Doodle and found Doodle was helpless and dead. The moment Brother
saw Doodle lifeless he felt instant regret for pushing him so hard. Guilt was in Brother s conscience
when he held Doodle s dead body in his hands. Brother could not help but feel responsible for what
had happened to Doodle, he blamed the whole incident on himself. Brother was left with the feeling of
guilt after he realized how he had been mistreating his brother

The Blood Sucking Behavior Of Hirudo
The Blood Sucking Behavior of Hirudo Miguel Soto Professor Folkerts Pepperdine University 23
April 2014 Abstract Hirudo are well known for their blood sucking, fluid feeding behavior. The
purpose of this experiment was to get a better understanding of Hirudo s blood feeding behavior; more
specifically, the study was designed to answer the question: how do different volumes of blood affect
Hirudo s thirst? By soaking a sponge with different volumes of cow blood and measuring the time it
took for the Hirudo to attach to the blood soaked sponge, the experiment yielded results that help
explain whether or not there was a connection between the amount of blood available to Hirudo for
feeding and the time it takes Hirudo to attach to the blood source. The experiment was conducted
using six Hirudo, with a total of ten different volumes of blood per sponge (ranging from 1mL to
10mL) and two trials done for each volume of blood. Data collected from the experiment was
analyzed with the SPSS program and found that differences in attachment time for the various levels
of blood in the sponge were significant at the .05 level. These results explain that Hirudo do in fact
take significantly less time to attach to a blood source containing a higher volume of blood. This
information can be helpful for medical practitioners who use Hirudo as an alternative form of
medicine. In nature, these results can also help explain Hirudo s feeding behavior and how Hirudo
utilizes these behaviors for

Ethnology. The Story Of Colonized People Has A Similar
Ethnology The story of colonized people has a similar tone in many parts of the world, but the
situation with the colonization of Australia is very similar to the story of the colonization of North
America by the Europeans. Both of these cases share similar issues and outcomes. First off, both
groups are typically generalized as one group in this case, the Aborigines and the Native Americans.
However, these groups are made up of many smaller clans or tribes that each had a unique language
and culture. Additionally, they both lived in a variety of different areas throughout their respective
continents, and thus it is hard to generalize them. Both the Aborigines and the Native American were
very negatively impacted by European ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of them live in high rate of poverty, similar to other indigenous groups around the world. As of
2013, the disposable income of an indigenous person in Australia is about 70% of that of a non
indigenous person. This can be contributed to the fact that non indigenous people have much better
access to education, especially at the university level, and also to racial discrimination. Their lower
income means that they often live in very poor conditions according to an article published by the
Australian Broadcasting Corporation, their conditions can often be deemed fifth world . Many of
Aboriginal people in Central Australia are living in humpies , which are huts often constructed from
tree bark and branches, or shelters made from old car bodies. Alan Hudson, a former government
business manager, says that there was little improvement to the living conditions from the 1970s to
today.
Another problem that many Aboriginal people face is overcrowding of houses. In the Aboriginal
community on Palm Island, the average number of people to one house is seventeen, and about 27%
of the population of Aboriginals live in overcrowded houses. The more remote the Aboriginal
community is, the more likely they are to suffer from poor living conditions. In 2006, the UN declared
that Australia had the worst Indigenous housing conditions in world.
The conditions which these people live in leads them to higher

Logistics and Sieges of Alexander the Great Essays
Alexander the Great inherited one of the most powerful armies in the ancient world from his father
Philip. The army used a unique spear phalanx that was virtually unheard of outside of Macedonia, and
the army was well trained and supported. Additionally Philip felt the use of siege weaponry was of
great importance and invested in engineers to aid him. Philip even used siege weaponry on the field in
battle some times. Philip set the stage for his son to dominate the known world, and even gave him a
road map for conquering Asia minor, but an army and siege weapons are only a portion of an armies
success. Especially when planning a long protracted campaign far from home. Alexander s conquest
of Asia was heavily influenced by two very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only enough carts and animals to carry the siege equipment, tents, rations, and other equipment
required by the army were used. All additional rations would have to have been carried via Alexander
s fleet. Memnon wanted to pursue a policy of scorched earth and then bring the war to Greece to
prevent Alexander from being able to wage war abroad, and if the other Persian generals had followed
his advice Alexander would have most likely had to return to Macedonia and never been able to
accomplish anything outside of Greece. Due to the Persian s vanity they decided to instead attack
Alexander directly without razing the countryside and were defeated leading to Alexander gaining the
foothold he needed in Asia. A likely scenario would put a seven day limit on the amount of rations the
army carried with it in a temperate climate and a two day limit in desert regions where the army could
not forage for additional food, water, and fodder. No matter how many pack animals an army used the
maximum amount of rations that could be carried would be twenty five days due to the feed required
by all of the animals. Another problem with adding additional animals to the supply train is the sheer
number of animals required to carry everything. Should the Macedonian army use enough animals to
carry the maximum twenty five day amount of rations the number of animals would have stretched
over thirty miles and with an

Security Analysis of an Electronic Voting System
Abstract
Fundamental right to vote or simply voting in elections forms the basis of democracy. Electronic
Voting Machine (EVM) is a simple electronic device used to record votes in place of ballot papers and
boxes which were used earlier in conventional voting system .With significant U.S. federal funds we
now have replaced the outdated punch card and mechanical voting systems, and are adopting
paperless electronic voting systems from a number of different vendors. My analysis shows that this
voting system is below the minimal security standards. Threats of computer viruses or hacker
orchestrated attacks are most commonly mentioned as problems that could compromise an election
and public confidence in electronic voting. Other potential technical problems or issues include power
outages or malfunctions in Internet connectivity as well as the possibility of servers shutting down or
crashing. The reliable recording and storage of votes is also an important consideration, I conclude
that this voting system is unsuitable for use in a general election. Any paperless electronic voting
system might suffer similar flaws, despite any certification it could have otherwise received. I suggest
that the best solutions are voting systems having a voter verifiable audit trail, where a computerized
voting system might print a paper ballot that can be read and verified

Victimization Of The Female Dancer In Battle Royal
Victimization of the Female Dancer in Battle Royal
In Ralph Ellison s Battle Royal , two different victims of the prominent white men are portrayed: the
greater known victim of the African American boys and the lesser female dancer. Both of these victim
groups are relevant to the story, however one gets more recognition than the other. In the story, Ellison
identifies racism and bigotry exerted by the white men onto the African American boys in a fist fight
and electric rug scene. Before the physical torture of the boys, Ellison brings attention to the sexism
and degrading actions toward a naked female dancer. The evils endured by the boys and the dancer are
equally bad in their own right, although the female dancer s are subdued. The female dancer endured
the derogatory ideas of the men, their forcefulness, and their different emotional traumas.
The female dancer first falls victim to the prominent white men and the African American boys in the
derogatory ideas and thoughts they are having. Before the physical actions of the men, the dancer was
already a victim by their degrading thoughts and lustful feelings. The men looked at her like she was a
circus kewpie doll , already likening her to a toy for their amusement making her nonhuman to them
(270). By likening her to a kewpie doll, they could rationalize their animalistic thoughts, making their
feelings seems appropriate. By viewing her as inanimate, they allow themselves to continue their lewd
thoughts about her

South Africa and the AIDS Crisis
The AIDS crisis has been a very controversial issue in the history of South Africa beginning in 1982.
During this time South Africa has made a government transition from apartheid to a democracy. Since
many national issues needed to be address, the AIDS crisis was pushed aside, leaving a pandemic in
the process. Many factors have contributed to the issues including: poverty, social instability, high
levels of sexually transmitted infections, the low status of women, sexual violence, migrant labor,
limited access to quality medical care, and a history of poor leadership in the response to the
pandemic. After three decades of controversy in South Africa dealing with issues involving the
government, medicine, and conflict the country is still feeling the after effect today regarding the
largest AIDS pandemic.
In 1982 the first case of AIDS in South Africa was diagnosed in a homosexual white man who was
believed to contract the disease while in California. Later that year two hundred and fifty random
blood samples were taken from homosexual men living in Johannesburg, the virus infected 12.8% of
the men. When AIDs was first diagnosed, many Africans believed it was only a disease for
homosexuals and drug addicts, this did not prove to be the case. The first death of a South African
with AIDS occurred in 1985, while the apartheid government was under the control of President P.W.
Botha. Botha held a press conference to address the threat of this disease for the country. As

Marketing Is A Complex Network Of Processes
The average person may not realize that marketing is a complex network of processes; not just product
advertising (Kerin, Hartley, Rudelius, 2011). One might think of marketing as just the product
advertising side of things in the world of goods and services. A large amount of people might not
understand that marketing is a much more diverse set of steps, not just billboards and commercials.
Marketing is the process that covers product distribution and concepts ranging all the way from
realization of consumer needs to satisfaction of the need with a finished product or service (Kerin et
al, 2011). This process is covered through the four factors of the marketing mix (Kerin et al, 2011).
Need
A product that I need is laundry detergent. I have two teenage sons, so laundry is a constant in my
household. Therefore, a reliable laundry detergent is a must. Tide detergent that is a constant in the
grocery cart of my family. It is reliable and a consistent performer that satisfies the needs of our
family. Tide satisfies the need of clean clothing in my household. The marketing program of Tide is
set up to sufficiently cover the demand for this product (Kerin, et al, 2011). There is a set price and
there has been adequate promotion of the product. As a consumer, I am aware of the product, the
benefits, and the availability of the product. Tide advertising focuses on a simple message that
consumers can find easily relatable. This allows the consumer to find a common

Essay about How The Canadian Economy Is De
The Canadian economy is determined largely by the United States economy threw the North American

Trade Agreement was an agreement that came into effect on January 1,1995 which involves Mexico,
Canada and the United States of America. This agreement is said to produce 1 billion to 3 billion
dollar gains in each country. NAFTA ensures that a certain amount of goods produced and traded

Since Canada does a lot of exporting of raw material these materials use to have such a high tariff and
were not being as traded to their potential now they are being traded frequently to the U.S because of
the FTA.
The FTA has allowed Canada and the U.S to reduce trade obstacles by standardizing their product
standards, testing and approval processes. The FTA now states that Canada can t restrict oil and
natural gas exports to the United States therefore Canada can t charge Americans higher prices in
Canada. The FTA has excluded some industries from the agreement these industries are Agricultural,
Cultural Industries, Social Insurance programs and Regional development programs. Since there are
so many rules and regulations under the FTA a binational panel will settle the disputes. The panel
settles these disputes by determine whether each country s regulators are applying to their trade laws.
Canada or the U.S can end the FTA by giving six months notice. Since U.S exports to Canada only
account for a small 1.3 per cent of its GDP and Canadian exports to the U.S account for 20 per cent of
its GDP, Canada can t afford to lose this agreement while the end of this agreement would hardly even
effect the U.S.
The NAFTA set up free trade over North America. Since Canada already had free trade with the U.S

The Grapes Of Wrath By Ma Joad
Ma Joad: Keeping her family in line since 1939
In a time where women were considered inferior, The Grapes of Wrath uses secondary characters,
specifically Ma Joad, to demonstrate a woman taking charge in a family setting, and the relationships
of such a woman with others. Ma helps amplify the theme of feminism and women s rights in different
scenarios. Her relationships with Pa, her daughter Rose of Sharon, and even herself all convey
different elements of an extraordinary leader and an amazing mother.
Ma and Pa s relationship throughout The Grapes of Wrath defies the idea of a normal couple in the era
of the Dust Bowl. They are represented very much as equals through the conflicts their family has to
face, contrary to other couples, where the husband is in charge. Ma takes the lead in many situations
and Pa respects, and maybe even fears her opinions. Ma commandeers decision making and often
causes conflicts with her strong beliefs. This passage conveys the dynamic of their relationship very
early on in the book: Pa broke in, But s pose there just ain t room? He had twisted his neck to look up
at her, and he was ashamed. Her tone had made him ashamed. [...] She stopped, and Pa turned back,
and his spirit was raw from the whipping. (Steinbeck 132) Not only does Pa look to Ma for advice, but
he also notices that she has a higher authority over the family than he does. It becomes obvious as the
book goes on that he is not well equipped to deal with the situations that

Smallpox Vaccine
Smallpox is a highly contagious viral disease that was eradicated in 1980 (Mucker et al., 2013).
Before eradication, smallpox was endemic in many tropical countries in the past 40 years. The success
of the eradication was cultivated by intensified immunization, case control and active surveillance by
World health organization with support from all nations. The only remaining wild Variola major
viruses are under two top security WHO research laboratories as the threat of bio terrorism remains
real(W.H.O., 2015).
Smallpox is caused by variola virus of Poxviridae family (which is a dsDNA with replication taking
place in the cytoplasm) subfamily Chordopoxvirinae, and Orthopoxvirus genus(Dimmock, Easton,

The introduction of smallpox vaccine drastically decreased the incidence(Dr Hunt, n.d.). The vaccine
is 95% effective although not used routinely due to heightened safety concerns. From World Health
Organization estimated 15 million people contracted smallpox each year before 1967, and the fatality
rate was more that 2 million. For unvaccinated individuals, the mortality rate stands at approximately
30%. The highest morbidity and mortality presents in immunocompromised population such as young
children, pregnant women and elderly individuals.
Monkeypox and cowpox are also orthopoxviruses that infect human beings with considerable health

1. A) Skills Training: The primary motor cortex is made up of interconnected neural assemblies
(localized groups of neurons with similar inputs and outputs), that control movements in the fingers,
hands, and legs. This coordinated activation can then be made complex and lets us do multijoint
movements such as reaching. Before the study the theory was that during skills learning, the
connectivity between these neural assemblies change. These changes were viewed as differences in
cortical synapse numbers, synaptic strength, and the topography of stimulation evoked movement
representation. They did a study with adult rats to measure these changes while they do an obstacle
course. Some rats had to learn limb placement and posture control to finish a complex obstacle course,
and the others walked an unobstructed course. The rats that were required to learn limb placement and
posture control because of the complex obstacle course, showed increases in synapse number within
the motor cortex compare to the rats doing the simple obstacle. The synaptic changes seen here are
thought to show the changes in cortical circuitry that results in the reorganization of the neural
assemblies encoding movement. Therefore proving the theory correct. All this data indicates that
training on a skill produces alterations in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that these changes are specific to the areas activated by the training. This data lets us know that
exercise can create an increase in blood flow, growth but does not induce any amount of changes in

The Ethics Of An Incomplete Attempt
An incomplete attempt is where the attempter had planted a bomb but is detained before he could set
the bomb off. There have been many arguments put back and forth to punish incomplete attempts as
you would if you had completed the attempt. Treating incomplete more leniently was first brought to
our attention by Sir Blackstone (Ashworth, A 1988) whom stated that the affirmed punishment must
only be in accordance with the actions that have been committed (Jacqueline M, 2013). Further
arguing that incomplete should have greater leniency than complete attempts is due the attempter s
chance of voluntary abandonment. The attempter may change his mind voluntarily and not gone
through with the unlawful act. From my personal perspective, I feel it would be legally and morally
justified for the attempter to occur the same punishment as that of the completed offender because
even if they voluntarily had not gone through with the unlawful act they had the mere preparation in
place. Although mere preparation cannot be used, you would consider other factors and implications
like the level of intent the defendant had. It is important to remember the punishment of an attempt is
at the judge s discretion. Therefore if the offence is the offender s first attempt, the judge may be more
lenient to let them off with a less punishment, despite them having all the intention required to commit
the crime. Attempts to Commit the Impossible Under the Criminal Attempts Act S.1 (2) 1981 it states

Analysis Of I Just Wanna Be Average By Mike Rose
We go to school day after day and see the same things happening. We never have the time to question
these things or to even stop and take a second to wonder, is this the right way to handle this or is this
what I am supposed to be doing with my life. From the moment we walk through those school doors
until we leave at the end of the day there is nothing but competition. There are many different kinds of
competition, whether it is in a sport for school or for who has the best academic scores. A second in
the day does not go by where there are not two students competing for the winning spot. In Mike

Many people believe that we need to have our children competing to be the best of the best when they
are young. Therefore, giving them a head start on a great future. In Rose he says, Students will float to
the mark you set. (Rose 154) This means that if we set the mark at college, there are kids that will
compete to be the best out of their class and will strive to become the most successful. Although we do
not realize this, but by setting that mark it is giving the slackers something to aim for even though they
never seem to compete for anything. This means that by having an environment that is willing to push
even the slackers in school shows that they to can have something to compete for in the future. The
environment of students plays an important role in helping students compete to become better. We
tend to see better scores from students in private schools rather than students in public schools, this is
because students are pushed harder in private schools and are competing to be the best because they
know that if they start to fall behind they will be left in the dust. These students become the slackers.
Problems start to form when the parents of the slackers start to shelter them and say that competing is
not that important. Young adults are smart and they see this as an opportunity to use their parents.
When reading Katherine S. Newman, The Accordion Family: Boomerang Kids, Anxious Parents, and
the Private Toll of Global Competition we find it interesting when she brings up the topic on how
Adult children are migrating home or refraining from leaving in the first place, and there they stay for
many years longer. (Newman 91) With this being said we can right away notice that there is no
motivation to become better or to even compete in the work for to be able to be living on their

Faith (CDF) who believed, among other things, that his argument somehow failed to affirm the
divinity of Jesus the Christ. By focusing on a Christology from below , Sobrino champions the
equalizing of an imbalance of Christologies where the focus tends to be predominantly on the divine
and mystical Christ, also known as Christology from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most Christian Americans do not find themselves in the category of oppressor the way Jesus thought
of them during His time. We learn from Sobrino that Jesus believed the oppressors to be, ...the rich,
scribes and Pharisees, priests and rulers, as those who hold economic, cultural, religious, and political
power... (170). Yet, most Christian Americans also do not find themselves in the abject poverty or
oppressive conditions faced by those during Jesus time and even today in places like Central and
South America, Africa, Asia and the war torn Middle East. Understanding this, Sobrino clearly points
out the need to choose to find solidarity with the poor and oppressed in order to journey towards the
Kingdom of God. As Christians, we understand that we have an obligation to use our time, talent, and
treasure to help do our share in bringing about the Kingdom. What better way in making use of the
attributes than to direct them towards those in most

By 1994 a significant year in the company s history Greggs consisted of more than 500 stores
operating in seven regional divisions. The stature of the company at this point was about to increase
substantially, providing a fitting tribute to the company s tenth year as a publicly traded concern. In
mid 1994, Greggs acquired the retail baking interests belonging to Allied Bakeries Limited. The
transaction nearly doubled the size of the company, adding 424 shops and a new brand to the company
s portfolio, Bakers Oven.
The acquisition of Allied Bakeries added a new dimension to Greggs business strategy, one that
contrasted and complemented the company s operations. Unlike the shops operating under the Greggs
banner, the Bakers Oven shops featured in store bakeries. Rather than assimilate the acquired units
into the company s network of large central bakeries that served a cluster of retail shops, Darrington
and his management team decided to develop Bakers Oven as a separate brand, a decision that opened
new markets for the company s expansion. Through Bakers Oven shops and their in store bakeries, the
company was able to establish a presence in markets with lower population densities than the Greggs
units demanded. For the Greggs model of a central bakery serving satellite shops to make financial
sense, numerous retail outlets needed to be in close

Research Paper On Cemetery Birding
Our latest park review takes us east into zone 6 where we make our first venture into cemetery birding
within the CBC circle. All Saints Cemetery is located in Northfield, Ohio off of W. Highland Road
and consists of 271 rolling acres, with two small lakes.
While birding cemeteries may be bit creepy to some, they can be an ideal habitat for birds and birders
alike. Most cemeteries are relatively large, providing good acreage for birds, with plenty of mature
trees for shelter and foraging.
We elected to run a short car route around the perimeter of the cemetery to get a grasp of the layout
and a probable foot path that we would follow. Parking along the southern most point in the cemetery
we scanned a small lake, or big pond for signs of life (sorry bad choice of words). No waterfowl were
present and the surrounding open area was muted.

Cemetery Birding Etiquette
Birding in a cemetery, graveyard or memorial garden is not as simple as arriving with a pair of
binoculars and wandering around the grounds. While polite birders are always respectful of both the
birds and the habitat, cemeteries require extra consideration.
Be aware of the property s opening hours and visitor guidelines, and obey all posted rules and
restrictions, such as no food or drink, minimal noise, signing a guest register or parking only in
designated areas. Keep a respectful distance from any funeral or memorial services, and do not disrupt
mourners in any way. Do not point your optics toward a service or mourner, even if a bird may be
visible nearby; instead, shift your position so as not to intrude on anyone s grief. Do not walk directly
on gravesites. Ideally, stay only on marked pathways, but if it is necessary to walk among grave
markers, stay close behind a row of headstones and avoid walking across burial sites. Similarly, do not

Chesapeake Colonies Dbq Analysis
Some may think that both the New England and Chesapeake regions both were alike, since they were
settled by the English. Then they would be wrong. By the 1700 s the two regions were here. The
Jamestown colony was lead here to settle by John Smith, while the Mass Bay colony was settled by
John Cotton and John Winthrop. The Mass Bay colony was inside the New England region while the
Chesapeake area was inside the Jamestown colony. These two regions developed into two unique
societies because of their priorities, climate, growing seasons, and the interactions with the Natives in
their region. They both differ because in New England they mostly settled for the freedom of their
religion, while in Chesapeake they wanted all the profit possible from ... Show more content on

The New England region allowed both men and women, but in Chesapeake they didn t allow women.
In New England they had migrated with families and allowed middle aged men and women to be on
this trip. This had an impact where men and women had different work roles usually men doing the
hunting and fishing while the women and if they had children would have the house keeping job. This
would differ from the Chesapeake region where they brought no families and only had young men
more than fourteen and without females they would not be able to reproduce and have families. This
changed how they jobs would work because then they would not have the gender roles as presented in
New England. Once they reached their settlement they had different scenarios with the natives. In
New England they have less encounters with the Natives there since the disease was present wiped
them out. The Natives were decimated by the disease before the Mayflower reached land which
concluded to less conflict. On the other hand the Natives were not decimated in Chesapeake which
then created more conflicts since it was always wars and conflict for the land and resources within the
land. There was war between them and the Powhatans which was the Powhatan War because of such
land and resources. For this reason is another added on reason to how these regions and settlements

History On The Origin Of State Charters Essay
Brief History on the Origin of State Charters in California
California has followed the steps of many American states by committing its efforts on ensuring
educational developments through improved governance systems. In the last half a decade or so, there
have emerged diverse levels of studies in California State majorly because of three reasons which
include several legislative practices, institutions, and participation of state agencies. The California
Educational Commission was created as early as 1899 with a number of 70 members to study the state
s educational program with an effort of improving it. Of much interest was the recommendation that
legislation had to be twisted to form a uniform board for the governing of normal colleges and
universities in California. This issue resulted in the formulation of a law that placed the normal
colleges and universities in California under the State Board of Education.
A legislation in the year 1992 found it necessary to have schools and authorized their creation. The
legislation also came up with requirements for appeal signature and as a result a county appeals
process was created and whose charter renewal came after every five years. The legislation also made
clear the grounds for which the charters could be considered null and void. The flexibility of the
legislation allowed there to be an amendment in 1998, which brought about a change in the
requirements for petition signature and gave the mandate of revoking any charter to

South Africa Apartheid (oppression)
Oppression is at the root of many of the most serious, enduring conflicts in the world today. Racial
and religious conflicts; conflicts between dictatorial governments and their citizens; the battle between
the sexes; conflicts between management and labor; and conflicts between heterosexuals and
homosexuals all stem, in whole or in part, to oppression. It s similar to an article in south africa that
people have with racial segregation between black and white . Many people need to know that
indiviual have their own rights in laws and freedom . Everyone should have an equal rights and better
community . A black person would be of or accepted as a member of an African tribe or race, and a
colored person is one that is not black or white. The Department of Home Affairs (a government
bureau) was responsible for the classification of the citizenry. Non compliance with the race laws were
dealt with harshly. All blacks were required to carry ``pass books containing fingerprints, photo and
information on access to non black areas. The apartheid in South Africa which was in effect from 1948

country for the worse but was a outright crime against humanity. It include with civil right that

Cost Financing And Equity Financing
Debt and Equity1
Moving right along, outlined next will be several funding options available for start up businesses that
enable people, like me, to be able to put our dream in motion. There are two types of capital that can
be raised, debt and equity. Now some would think that as long as there are funds there to work with,
regardless of how they were procured, the end result would be the same. However, that is not the case.
Debt financing and equity financing have significant differences in how they affect the business s
bottom line and in how they are acquired. For instance, the interest paid on a business loan (option for
debt financing) is tax deductible, therefore decreasing the amount of taxable income and increasing

First up we have bonds, not to be mistaken with stock characteristics (which provide ownership in a
company), a bond is essentially a loan from the purchaser. When a small business issues a bond, it is
borrowing money. The person who purchases the bond loans your company money in exchange for a
return on his money (Johnston, 2016). Just like a business loan (to be discussed next) the interest that
is paid to these bond holders is tax deductible and there is a specified amount of time before the
amount is expected to be paid back. For instance, if you purchase a $1000 bond with a 10/yr. maturity
and 8% annual interest rate at its par value, you are expecting to get 8%/yr. on the $1000 bond issue
(loan to the company) with a return of principal (in this case $1000) at the end of the 10th year. Bond
interest rates (aka the discount rate and/or required return) is the rate of interest prevailing in the
market for bonds of the same risk and maturity (AAII Journal, 2008) and is the sum of all future cash
flows, discounted in value because they are not available today (AAII Journal, 2008). The discount
rate (interest rate/required return) is used to calculate the future value of the bond sold today. When a
bond sells for less than its par value (value of the bond), it is said to be selling at a discount... when
more than its par value, a premium. They have an inverse relationship with interest rates, which is a

Vanzetti was being tried under Massachusetts felony murder rule, but no direct evidence had been tied
Vanzetti s .38 nickel plated Harrington Richardson five shot revolver to the crime scene. The only
question that arouse with it was that the slain guard apparently had one identical in type and

Additionally, witnesses to the payroll shooting had described Berardelli as reaching for his gun on his
hip when he was cut down by pistol fire from the robbers, but his holster was empty when the body
was found. There were other attempts made at proving he had stolen the gun, but not proper evidence

Emma s Masculinity in Madame Bovary Essay
Set in the Victorian era of the 1800 s Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert exemplifies society s
views on the established gender roles of this time. Flaubert utilizes Emma Bovary s masculinity to
accentuate Emma s desire for control. Her desire for control extends from the social pressure of the
period, revealing her envy towards men. Flaubert undoubtedly depicts Emma s characteristics to have
a masculine undertone and throughout the novel her femininity deviates as her priority shifts. Emma s
lack of femininity translates to her relationships by maneuvering an interchanging role of a girlfriend
or boyfriend.
In Madame Bovary, Emma creates conspicuous goals based off romantic novels she reads. In reaching
her goals, she requires a level of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emma compares her opportunities and position in society to those of Leon. While Society encourages
him to become cultured, educated, and expand his horizons on the contrary women hinders in that
desire may only be just that, but a hopeful wish to be granted by their spouse. Her sadness, not only
derives from Leon s departure, but of her realization of a woman s bound role under the law and
status.
Flaubert depicts Emma as having subtle masculine characteristics emphasizing her masculinity not
only mentally but physically as well. In some cases, Flaubert uses irony to characterize Emma s
masculine features. Yet her hand was not beautiful, perhaps not white enough, and a little hard at the
knuckles; besides, it was too long, with no soft inflections in the outlines (Flaubert 28) the narrator
describes Emma as lacking the soft subtle femininity that high class women have. The contrast of her
beauty lessens her femininity in this case making her appear more tusk and masculine. Emma s
femininity gets challenged on the pivotal day of the Victorian women s life. When the narrator
describes her on her wedding day, Emma s dress, too long, trailed a little on the ground; from time to
time she stopped to pull it up, and then delicately, with her gloved hands, she picked off the coarse
grass and the thistledown (Flaubert 18 19). On her wedding day, Emma s description walking down
the aisle diffidently wearing a dirty unfitted dress metaphorically portrays Emma

Examples Of SMART Goal Setting
1.SMART goal setting stands for Specific, Measurable, Acceptable, Realistic, and Timely. For a goal
to be specific, the question to ask one s self is do you know what, how, where, when, with whom, and
how long you will do this? For a goal to be measurable, the question to ask one s self is will you know
when it is done? For a goal to be acceptable, the question to ask one s self is will you feel good about

Three Major Jewish Rebellions
In 70 AD the second temple of Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans, hence solidifying the Roman
rule over the Jewish Kingdom for the next 254 years. But first lets go back a couple of years and see
how the Jewish people where living before the Roman ruled. In 198 BCE the Seleucids integrated the
Jewish kingdom into theirs when the lands where divided. The Jews were pleasant at first, however
later on the relationship between the hellenized Jews and the religious Jews fell apart. So the Seleucid
king Antiochus IV Epiphanes tried to prohibit certain Jewish religious rites and traditions. As a result
this created a national rebellion led by Judas Maccabeus. These rebels became known as the
Maccabees, or Hasmoneans. The Maccabean Revolt lasted from 174 135 BCE and the story of how
the Maccabees purified the temple of Jerusalem when they took it back was the start of the Jewish
holiday Hanukkah. For this part the story goes like this. Once the Maccabees had regained control of
the kingdom they returned to the Temple in Jerusalem. To their dismay they had found that there
temple had been defiled by being used for the worship of foreign gods and the sacrificing of pigs. The
Jewish troops where going to burn ritual oil in the Temple s menorah for eight days to cleanse the
temple of the unholy acts that had happened in there. However they discovered that there was only
one day s worth of oil left but they lit the menorah anyways and to their surprise the small amount of
oil lasted

Analysis Of A Psalm Of David
Observation: According to the superscription, For the director of music. A Psalm of David we know
the psalmist is David although superscriptions were added later. This psalm can be classified as an
individual lament, presenting the aspects representative of that genre that is scattered about in the
passage. It is believed it was written when David was persecuted by Saul; various passages correspond
specifically to the inadequate escapes he had. There is no historical context to know if it was written
upon any of the occasions of David s attempted escapes at Keilah, then in the wilderness of Maon and
also in the cave in En Gedi. This Psalm is a mixture of prayer, praise, and declaration of confidence in
God. Although the writer of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5). David s trust in God is established from antecedent experiences with God who has redeemed David
(v. 8, 22) and who has demonstrated faithfulness (v. 3). The affidavit of trust continues in verses 6 8.
After David put himself in God s hands he reminisced that God has not given him into the hands of his
enemies (v.8). Verses 9 13 delineate the astute condition of David as he prays. David speaks of how
his life is consumed by anguish and tells of his suffering of his whole being that has been going on for
a lifetime (v. 9 13). As the passage continues David permutates into declarations of trust, my times are
in your hands (v. 15) while in verses 16 18 David calls to God asking him to deliver him from his
enemies once again. The psalms conclude on various admirable annotations of praise and trust (v. 19
24).
Application: In this passage, the promise of Psalm 2:12 is affirmed; if you take refuge in God, you
will be happy. The final words of Psalm 31 are not directed toward God but to the congregation. David
takes the position of an instructor and gives words of advice that can still be applied to today s times:
Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord (v. 24). Although David spent the majority of
this passage calling out to God to save him and be his refuge from his enemies (v. 1 6, 9 18) he never
failed to acknowledge who God is and remained

Learning A New Language Essay
In life, I have gone through challenges that have taught me new things. In recent years, I have been
learning to understand a new language: Korean. Korean is an Asian language that is spoken in Korea.
It has different dialects such as the Gyeongsang dialect, Jeolla dialect, Chungcheong dialect, Gyeonggi
dialect, Chejuan dialect, Hamgyong dialect, Hwanghae dialect, and the standard Korean. Learning this
new language and its dialects were very difficult for me because not many people know how to speak
Korean in the region where I live. Although this does cause a minor inconvenience towards my
education, I still strive to perfect and enhance the current skill that I ve taught myself. As a child, I was
taught by my parents how to speak Spanish, as do most other children that make up my school s
population. Since I was only taught Spanish for the first few years of my life, I had to learn English in
my primary school years through my teacher. Learning the new language was not as hard as I had
expected because I would frequently hear it when my mother would talk to her friends. Therefore,
learning English came naturally, I was not forced. Up until recently, I have only understood English
and Spanish, so I decided to get myself busy and start learning a new language, Korean. I was very
motivated to learn Korean because I started watching Korean dramas and I wanted to read a book in
Korean. When I told my mom about my plan to learn Korean, she motivated me quite a lot that I felt

Persuasive Essay On Prayer In School
Prayer in School has been one of the most controversial issues of all the time. Under US constitution
also prayer in schools is constitutional as well as unconstitutional. Congress shall make no law
respecting as establishment of religious or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the
freedom of speech or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the
government for a redress of grievance , first amendment of US constitution. This amendment
guarantees people for their freedom of religious and speech of their choice. It means an individual has
a right to follow their religious without violating other belief. As an atheist, I believed that Prayer is a
mind exercise to keep balance between subconscious and conscious mind. And, a prayer in School
will give a guideline t People have their right to follow the religious of their own choice. They can
practice any norms or values under their religious without violating other belief. In 60s, prayer in
school was common in America. But, sometimes catholic group objected because it violates their
belief. Since, everyone has only one faith but there is different ways to express their faith on their own
God. In school, student with different religious has their own way and own God to pray. Prayer that
we pray in school may come from one religious which may violate others belief. On June 25, 1962,
US Supreme court ruled against prayer in public school. (Engel v. Vitale case)

  • 2. Gender Socialisation Commences At Birth, Parental... Gender socialisation commences at birth, parental conditioning and expectations are confirmed with the introduction and expectations that girls play with dolls and boys play with trucks and cars. Girls are seen as the homemakers whilst boys are guided more towards building, climbing and rough and tumble play. This continues at primary school where girls are encouraged to wear dresses for their uniforms and boys shorts or long pants. Boys are chastised if they cry and therefore learn to hold back their emotions. This could result in excess anger and frustration manifesting into aggression and possible labelling of the child (UNICEF, 2015). People who internalize the social norms of society are less likely to commit misdemeanours or advocate drastic social changes. In all societies, however, there are individuals who do not follow culturally defined standards and social norms. This could be due to not having received adequate socialisation. These people are usually considered to be eccentric, mentally ill or criminals and are likely to end up being incarcerated (Anthro.palomar.edu, 2015). Teaching in the twenty first century classroom brings a multitude of values, ethics, morals, attitudes and standards. Students are more likely to come from diverse backgrounds which could include single parent, same sex parents or grandparents as primary carers. These factors will influence how children are socialised in the child s microsystem, as defined by Bronfenbrenner (as cited in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of Flowers In Sons And Lovers David Herbert Lawrence was born on 11 September, 1885 in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, England. His father, named Arthur Lawrence, was a coal miner and his mother, Lydia Lawrence, worked in the lace making industry. Lawrence was a noted author of novels, short stories, essays, plays and poems, and is nowadays considered one of the most influential writers of the 20th century (Biography.com Editors). One of his most acknowledged novels is Sons and Lovers , published in 1913, in which he depicts the life of a working class family: The Morels. In this book, Lawrence employs symbols in order to the help the reader understand the innermost feelings of each of the characters, as well as to describe their main personality traits. In first place, the use of flowers as a symbol of happiness is crucial for the understanding of Mrs Gertrude Morel´s feelings. As she was unhappy and disappointed of the life she had, Mrs Morel tried to find the peace and joy she needed by beholding flowers. This is portrayed in: The front garden was a small square with a private hedge. There she stood trying to soothe herself with the scent of flowers and the fading, beautiful evening (Lawrence, D.H. Sons and Lovers. England. Penguin Books, 1976. Pages 12 13). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Scarlet Ibis , Brother and Doodle shared a special bond by the activities and lessons Brother taught Doodle. Doodle was happy to make new progress but he was in no hurry to rush to the next activity. In fact, Brother started teaching Doodle how to walk in the beginning because he was embarrassed to pull Doodle around in the cart everywhere he went.(Hurst 466) Doodle required constant attention when going places and someone needed to pull him around. Brother was most likely going to be the one to pull Doodle and take him wherever he needed to go. Brother taught Doodle so he would not have to pull the cart around anymore. The summer program for Doodle to improve his mobility was almost done by the time the thunderstorm reached Doodle and Brother. Brother abandoned Doodle in the thunderstorm to save himself. After the storm had gone past, Brother went back for Doodle and found Doodle was helpless and dead. The moment Brother saw Doodle lifeless he felt instant regret for pushing him so hard. Guilt was in Brother s conscience when he held Doodle s dead body in his hands. Brother could not help but feel responsible for what had happened to Doodle, he blamed the whole incident on himself. • 5. The Blood Sucking Behavior Of Hirudo The Blood Sucking Behavior of Hirudo Miguel Soto Professor Folkerts Pepperdine University 23 April 2014 Abstract Hirudo are well known for their blood sucking, fluid feeding behavior. The purpose of this experiment was to get a better understanding of Hirudo s blood feeding behavior; more specifically, the study was designed to answer the question: how do different volumes of blood affect Hirudo s thirst? By soaking a sponge with different volumes of cow blood and measuring the time it took for the Hirudo to attach to the blood soaked sponge, the experiment yielded results that help explain whether or not there was a connection between the amount of blood available to Hirudo for feeding and the time it takes Hirudo to attach to the blood source. The experiment was conducted using six Hirudo, with a total of ten different volumes of blood per sponge (ranging from 1mL to 10mL) and two trials done for each volume of blood. Data collected from the experiment was analyzed with the SPSS program and found that differences in attachment time for the various levels of blood in the sponge were significant at the .05 level. These results explain that Hirudo do in fact take significantly less time to attach to a blood source containing a higher volume of blood. This information can be helpful for medical practitioners who use Hirudo as an alternative form of medicine. In nature, these results can also help explain Hirudo s feeding behavior and how Hirudo utilizes these behaviors for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Story Of Colonized People Has A Similar Ethnology The story of colonized people has a similar tone in many parts of the world, but the situation with the colonization of Australia is very similar to the story of the colonization of North America by the Europeans. Both of these cases share similar issues and outcomes. First off, both groups are typically generalized as one group in this case, the Aborigines and the Native Americans. However, these groups are made up of many smaller clans or tribes that each had a unique language and culture. Additionally, they both lived in a variety of different areas throughout their respective continents, and thus it is hard to generalize them. Many of them live in high rate of poverty, similar to other indigenous groups around the world. As of 2013, the disposable income of an indigenous person in Australia is about 70% of that of a non indigenous person. This can be contributed to the fact that non indigenous people have much better access to education, especially at the university level, and also to racial discrimination. Their lower income means that they often live in very poor conditions according to an article published by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, their conditions can often be deemed fifth world . Many of Aboriginal people in Central Australia are living in humpies , which are huts often constructed from tree bark and branches, or shelters made from old car bodies. Alan Hudson, a former government business manager, says that there was little improvement to the living conditions from the 1970s to today. Another problem that many Aboriginal people face is overcrowding of houses. In the Aboriginal community on Palm Island, the average number of people to one house is seventeen, and about 27% of the population of Aboriginals live in overcrowded houses. The more remote the Aboriginal community is, the more likely they are to suffer from poor living conditions. In 2006, the UN declared that Australia had the worst Indigenous housing conditions in world. The conditions which these people live in leads them to higher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Logistics and Sieges of Alexander the Great Essays Alexander the Great inherited one of the most powerful armies in the ancient world from his father Philip. The army used a unique spear phalanx that was virtually unheard of outside of Macedonia, and the army was well trained and supported. Additionally Philip felt the use of siege weaponry was of great importance and invested in engineers to aid him. Philip even used siege weaponry on the field in battle some times. Philip set the stage for his son to dominate the known world, and even gave him a road map for conquering Asia minor, but an army and siege weapons are only a portion of an armies success. Only enough carts and animals to carry the siege equipment, tents, rations, and other equipment required by the army were used. All additional rations would have to have been carried via Alexander s fleet. Memnon wanted to pursue a policy of scorched earth and then bring the war to Greece to prevent Alexander from being able to wage war abroad, and if the other Persian generals had followed his advice Alexander would have most likely had to return to Macedonia and never been able to accomplish anything outside of Greece. Due to the Persian s vanity they decided to instead attack Alexander directly without razing the countryside and were defeated leading to Alexander gaining the foothold he needed in Asia. A likely scenario would put a seven day limit on the amount of rations the army carried with it in a temperate climate and a two day limit in desert regions where the army could not forage for additional food, water, and fodder. No matter how many pack animals an army used the maximum amount of rations that could be carried would be twenty five days due to the feed required by all of the animals. Another problem with adding additional animals to the supply train is the sheer number of animals required to carry everything. Should the Macedonian army use enough animals to carry the maximum twenty five day amount of rations the number of animals would have stretched over thirty miles and with an ... • 9. Security Analysis Of An Electronic Voting System Sharanya Prasath Prof Ming Yang IT security Analysis 9 July 2016 Security Analysis of an Electronic Voting System Abstract Fundamental right to vote or simply voting in elections forms the basis of democracy. Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) is a simple electronic device used to record votes in place of ballot papers and boxes which were used earlier in conventional voting system .With significant U.S. federal funds we now have replaced the outdated punch card and mechanical voting systems, and are adopting paperless electronic voting systems from a number of different vendors. My analysis shows that this voting system is below the minimal security standards. Threats of computer viruses or hacker orchestrated attacks are most commonly mentioned as problems that could compromise an election and public confidence in electronic voting. Other potential technical problems or issues include power outages or malfunctions in Internet connectivity as well as the possibility of servers shutting down or crashing. The reliable recording and storage of votes is also an important consideration, I conclude that this voting system is unsuitable for use in a general election. Any paperless electronic voting system might suffer similar flaws, despite any certification it could have otherwise received. I suggest that the best solutions are voting systems having a voter verifiable audit trail, where a computerized voting system might print a paper ballot that can be read and verified ... • 10. Victimization Of The Female Dancer In Battle Royal Victimization of the Female Dancer in Battle Royal In Ralph Ellison s Battle Royal , two different victims of the prominent white men are portrayed: the greater known victim of the African American boys and the lesser female dancer. Both of these victim groups are relevant to the story, however one gets more recognition than the other. In the story, Ellison identifies racism and bigotry exerted by the white men onto the African American boys in a fist fight and electric rug scene. Before the physical torture of the boys, Ellison brings attention to the sexism and degrading actions toward a naked female dancer. The evils endured by the boys and the dancer are equally bad in their own right, although the female dancer s are subdued. The female dancer endured the derogatory ideas of the men, their forcefulness, and their different emotional traumas. The female dancer first falls victim to the prominent white men and the African American boys in the derogatory ideas and thoughts they are having. Before the physical actions of the men, the dancer was already a victim by their degrading thoughts and lustful feelings. The men looked at her like she was a circus kewpie doll , already likening her to a toy for their amusement making her nonhuman to them (270). • 11. South Africa and the AIDS Crisis The AIDS crisis has been a very controversial issue in the history of South Africa beginning in 1982. During this time South Africa has made a government transition from apartheid to a democracy. Since many national issues needed to be address, the AIDS crisis was pushed aside, leaving a pandemic in the process. Many factors have contributed to the issues including: poverty, social instability, high levels of sexually transmitted infections, the low status of women, sexual violence, migrant labor, limited access to quality medical care, and a history of poor leadership in the response to the pandemic. After three decades of controversy in South Africa dealing with issues involving the government, medicine, and conflict the country is still feeling the after effect today regarding the largest AIDS pandemic. In 1982 the first case of AIDS in South Africa was diagnosed in a homosexual white man who was believed to contract the disease while in California. Later that year two hundred and fifty random blood samples were taken from homosexual men living in Johannesburg, the virus infected 12.8% of the men. When AIDs was first diagnosed, many Africans believed it was only a disease for homosexuals and drug addicts, this did not prove to be the case. The first death of a South African with AIDS occurred in 1985, while the apartheid government was under the control of President P.W. Botha. Botha held a press conference to address the threat of this disease for the country. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One might think of marketing as just the product advertising side of things in the world of goods and services. A large amount of people might not understand that marketing is a much more diverse set of steps, not just billboards and commercials. Marketing is the process that covers product distribution and concepts ranging all the way from realization of consumer needs to satisfaction of the need with a finished product or service (Kerin et al, 2011). This process is covered through the four factors of the marketing mix (Kerin et al, 2011). Need A product that I need is laundry detergent. • 15. The Grapes Of Wrath By Ma Joad Ma Joad: Keeping her family in line since 1939 In a time where women were considered inferior, The Grapes of Wrath uses secondary characters, specifically Ma Joad, to demonstrate a woman taking charge in a family setting, and the relationships of such a woman with others. Ma helps amplify the theme of feminism and women s rights in different scenarios. Her relationships with Pa, her daughter Rose of Sharon, and even herself all convey different elements of an extraordinary leader and an amazing mother. Ma and Pa s relationship throughout The Grapes of Wrath defies the idea of a normal couple in the era of the Dust Bowl. They are represented very much as equals through the conflicts their family has to face, contrary to other couples, where the husband is in charge. Ma takes the lead in many situations and Pa respects, and maybe even fears her opinions. Ma commandeers decision making and often causes conflicts with her strong beliefs. This passage conveys the dynamic of their relationship very early on in the book: Pa broke in, But s pose there just ain t room? He had twisted his neck to look up at her, and he was ashamed. Her tone had made him ashamed. [...] She stopped, and Pa turned back, and his spirit was raw from the whipping. A) Skills Training: The primary motor cortex is made up of interconnected neural assemblies (localized groups of neurons with similar inputs and outputs), that control movements in the fingers, hands, and legs. This coordinated activation can then be made complex and lets us do multijoint movements such as reaching. Before the study the theory was that during skills learning, the connectivity between these neural assemblies change. These changes were viewed as differences in cortical synapse numbers, synaptic strength, and the topography of stimulation evoked movement representation. They did a study with adult rats to measure these changes while they do an obstacle course. Some rats had to learn limb placement and posture control to finish a complex obstacle course, and the others walked an unobstructed course. The rats that were required to learn limb placement and posture control because of the complex obstacle course, showed increases in synapse number within the motor cortex compare to the rats doing the simple obstacle. The synaptic changes seen here are thought to show the changes in cortical circuitry that results in the reorganization of the neural assemblies encoding movement. • 19. The Ethics Of An Incomplete Attempt An incomplete attempt is where the attempter had planted a bomb but is detained before he could set the bomb off. There have been many arguments put back and forth to punish incomplete attempts as you would if you had completed the attempt. Treating incomplete more leniently was first brought to our attention by Sir Blackstone (Ashworth, A 1988) whom stated that the affirmed punishment must only be in accordance with the actions that have been committed (Jacqueline M, 2013). Further arguing that incomplete should have greater leniency than complete attempts is due the attempter s chance of voluntary abandonment. The attempter may change his mind voluntarily and not gone through with the unlawful act. From my personal perspective, I feel it would be legally and morally justified for the attempter to occur the same punishment as that of the completed offender because even if they voluntarily had not gone through with the unlawful act they had the mere preparation in place. Although mere preparation cannot be used, you would consider other factors and implications like the level of intent the defendant had. It is important to remember the punishment of an attempt is at the judge s discretion. Therefore if the offence is the offender s first attempt, the judge may be more lenient to let them off with a less punishment, despite them having all the intention required to commit the crime. In Rose he says, Students will float to the mark you set. (Rose 154) This means that if we set the mark at college, there are kids that will compete to be the best out of their class and will strive to become the most successful. Although we do not realize this, but by setting that mark it is giving the slackers something to aim for even though they never seem to compete for anything. This means that by having an environment that is willing to push even the slackers in school shows that they to can have something to compete for in the future. The environment of students plays an important role in helping students compete to become better. We tend to see better scores from students in private schools rather than students in public schools, this is because students are pushed harder in private schools and are competing to be the best because they know that if they start to fall behind they will be left in the dust. These students become the slackers. Problems start to form when the parents of the slackers start to shelter them and say that competing is not that important. Young adults are smart and they see this as an opportunity to use their parents. When reading Katherine S. Newman, The Accordion Family: Boomerang Kids, Anxious Parents, and the Private Toll of Global Competition we find it interesting when she brings up the topic on how Adult children are migrating home or refraining from leaving in the first place, and there they stay for many years longer. History On The Origin Of State Charters Essay Brief History on the Origin of State Charters in California California has followed the steps of many American states by committing its efforts on ensuring educational developments through improved governance systems. In the last half a decade or so, there have emerged diverse levels of studies in California State majorly because of three reasons which include several legislative practices, institutions, and participation of state agencies. The California Educational Commission was created as early as 1899 with a number of 70 members to study the state s educational program with an effort of improving it. Of much interest was the recommendation that legislation had to be twisted to form a uniform board for the governing of normal colleges and universities in California. This issue resulted in the formulation of a law that placed the normal colleges and universities in California under the State Board of Education. A legislation in the year 1992 found it necessary to have schools and authorized their creation. The legislation also came up with requirements for appeal signature and as a result a county appeals process was created and whose charter renewal came after every five years. The legislation also made clear the grounds for which the charters could be considered null and void. When a small business issues a bond, it is borrowing money. The person who purchases the bond loans your company money in exchange for a return on his money (Johnston, 2016). Just like a business loan (to be discussed next) the interest that is paid to these bond holders is tax deductible and there is a specified amount of time before the amount is expected to be paid back. For instance, if you purchase a $1000 bond with a 10/yr. maturity and 8% annual interest rate at its par value, you are expecting to get 8%/yr. on the $1000 bond issue (loan to the company) with a return of principal (in this case $1000) at the end of the 10th year. • 32. Three Major Jewish Rebellions In 70 AD the second temple of Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans, hence solidifying the Roman rule over the Jewish Kingdom for the next 254 years. But first lets go back a couple of years and see how the Jewish people where living before the Roman ruled. In 198 BCE the Seleucids integrated the Jewish kingdom into theirs when the lands where divided. The Jews were pleasant at first, however later on the relationship between the hellenized Jews and the religious Jews fell apart. So the Seleucid king Antiochus IV Epiphanes tried to prohibit certain Jewish religious rites and traditions. As a result this created a national rebellion led by Judas Maccabeus. These rebels became known as the Maccabees, or Hasmoneans. The Maccabean Revolt lasted from 174 135 BCE and the story of how the Maccabees purified the temple of Jerusalem when they took it back was the start of the Jewish holiday Hanukkah. For this part the story goes like this. Once the Maccabees had regained control of the kingdom they returned to the Temple in Jerusalem. To their dismay they had found that there temple had been defiled by being used for the worship of foreign gods and the sacrificing of pigs. The Jewish troops where going to burn ritual oil in the Temple s menorah for eight days to cleanse the temple of the unholy acts that had happened in there. However they discovered that there was only one day s worth of oil left but they lit the menorah anyways and to their surprise the small amount of oil lasted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

David s trust in God is established from antecedent experiences with God who has redeemed David (v. 8, 22) and who has demonstrated faithfulness (v. 3). The affidavit of trust continues in verses 6 8. After David put himself in God s hands he reminisced that God has not given him into the hands of his enemies (v.8). Verses 9 13 delineate the astute condition of David as he prays. David speaks of how his life is consumed by anguish and tells of his suffering of his whole being that has been going on for a lifetime (v. 9 13). As the passage continues David permutates into declarations of trust, my times are in your hands (v. 15) while in verses 16 18 David calls to God asking him to deliver him from his enemies once again. The psalms conclude on various admirable annotations of praise and trust (v. 19 24). Application: In this passage, the promise of Psalm 2:12 is affirmed; if you take refuge in God, you will be happy. The final words of Psalm 31 are not directed toward God but to the congregation. David takes the position of an instructor and gives words of advice that can still be applied to today s times: Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord (v. 24). Although David spent the majority of this passage calling out to God to save him and be his refuge from his enemies (v. 1 6, 9 18) he never failed to acknowledge who God is and remained ... • 34. Learning A New Language Essay In life, I have gone through challenges that have taught me new things. In recent years, I have been learning to understand a new language: Korean. Korean is an Asian language that is spoken in Korea. It has different dialects such as the Gyeongsang dialect, Jeolla dialect, Chungcheong dialect, Gyeonggi dialect, Chejuan dialect, Hamgyong dialect, Hwanghae dialect, and the standard Korean. Learning this new language and its dialects were very difficult for me because not many people know how to speak Korean in the region where I live. Although this does cause a minor inconvenience towards my education, I still strive to perfect and enhance the current skill that I ve taught myself. As a child, I was taught by my parents how to speak Spanish, as do most other children that make up my school s population. Since I was only taught Spanish for the first few years of my life, I had to learn English in my primary school years through my teacher. Learning the new language was not as hard as I had expected because I would frequently hear it when my mother would talk to her friends. Therefore, learning English came naturally, I was not forced. Up until recently, I have only understood English and Spanish, so I decided to get myself busy and start learning a new language, Korean. I was very motivated to learn Korean because I started watching Korean dramas and I wanted to read a book in Korean. When I told my mom about my plan to learn Korean, she motivated me quite a lot that I felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
