Liver Fluke Worm Research Paper
The Liver Fluke worm is another name for a type of flatworms. Liver fluke is a chronic parasitic
disease of the bile ducts. The adult worms can be found in the liver of infected animals and humans,
but mainly sheep and cattle. An adult fluke lays 2000 4000 eggs each day. You can get Liver flukes by
consuming raw/undercooked meat. Adult flukes settle in your small ducts and can live there for 20 30
years! The most well known species that causes liver flukes is called Clonorchis Sinensis. Around 35
million people are infected with liver gloom throughout the world, Liver Flukes are the most common
parasites in the U.S. They can be found everywhere such as swimming pools, hot tubs, gym floors,
public bathrooms, and toilet flush levers.

Cloisonne Tripod Censer
The 19th century luxurious Cloisonné tripod censer has no known artist and is labeled to be from 1644
to 1911. It is made of enamel on copper alloy with a dimension of 28cm in height. In a display with
five objects, it was the most lavished in both form and colors. The ornamented pot can be associated
with higher society or respected people because the material of copper and enamel are, unlike clay or
bronzes, produced for specific groups of people with no mass production. Initially, the dominant light
blue color didn t look like a typical Chinese censer that I ve seen before. However, like other censers
we see in Chinese cultures today, this tripod censer would be seen as the centerpiece of an altar
surrounded by vases and candlesticks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The colors used in the enamel are light blue as its main background that symbolizes the sky, dark blue,
yellow, dark green, light green, red and white. Every shape has a thin golden outline, which explains
the unique and non industrialized manufacturing process. The fluid patterns seem to be filling up the
space in a non systematic nor a symmetrical way to reflect the natural behaviors of the plants. There
are no composition or main point of focus. Thus, the patterns are there to create the surface rather than
to illustrate a story. The empty areas such as the legs of the tripod are filled with curved vine patterns.
The curling vines overlap each other, creating a sense of dimension and space on a flat surface. The
leaf texture and lines make the vines recognizable. Moreover, the absence of the leaf on the middle
section of the lid shows that the curls on the lid are clouds intertwining with smaller dragons that are
hidden. This style reminisces the art of Zhou where interlacing animals formed intricate patterns.
Coincidentally, this is where the smoke or the cloud of the incense will flow through. This censer
portrays the commonly displayed theme of journey to heaven, as it is embodied by the elements of the
plants on Earth and the clouds from heaven. The use of Leiwen patterns in the vines and clouds
throughout the object helps unify the different

A Research Study On Adolescent Suicide Essay
Facilitating Connection and Saving Lives
The purpose of this paper is to detail a group aimed to provide support for lesbian, gay, and bisexual
(LGB) adolescents. The paper begins by examining literature related to adolescent suicide rates, the
lack of personal and community resources for teenagers, and adolescent development and mental
health. The paper will then address the methodology, purpose, and goals of the group. The paper will
address the role of the leader. He/she will utilize an Adlerian theoretical orientation and will be
involved, directive, and authentic. The leader will attempt to facilitate social relatedness and corrective
emotional experiences for group members. The paper will briefly review group evaluation, and it will
examine potential ethical/multicultural issues that this leader and group may encounter. The paper will
conclude by detailing activities that will be utilized throughout the six weeks of the group experience.
Literature Review
Adolescent Suicide and Distress
One young person age ten to 19 takes his/her own life every 90 minutes (Gould et al. as cited in Kitts,
2005, p. 622). Russell and Joyner revealed that adolescents who identify as gay or lesbian are two
times more likely to attempt suicide than straight adolescents (as cited in Kitts, 2005, p. 624). The risk
factor for suicide for gay and lesbian adolescents is not their sexuality, but psychosocial distress they
experience due to their sexuality (Kitts, 2005). Adolescents

Theme Of Sacrifice In King Lear
The nobility of a sacrifice lies in how it demonstrates where a person s priorities are held and how it
contrasts ignoble deeds otherwise. In King Lear, Lear s youngest daughter Cordelia, by not accepting
to play the game of love test, willingly sacrifices her dignity and honor as a king s daughter,
surrenders her freedom for banishment and forfeits her possible inheritances and legacies from the
retiring father. Out of her own choice, such willingness of self abnegation shines a light on Cordelia s
virtue, love and devotion, if not loyalty, which are a moral compass that points to justice.
Cordelia self abnegates for two causes, the first being her virtue, the second being her love for an
ignorant father.
Cordelia s sacrifice begins with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Out of familial love, Cordelia shines the play in the sense that she continues to exhibits her virtue even
she is cast down and even she is discredited by her father. Moving to the reunion, where Cordelia
stays with her father to redress Lear s faults and know better of himself, Cordelia s noble character
culminates in apt personification of kindness and virtue that persist even the most difficult and abject
of times. Moving to the end of the play, where Cordelia is murdered in its most dehumanizing sense,
Cordelia finally becomes a sacrifice to the heartlessness of a skewed, unjust world.
Suffice to say, Cordelia s redoubtable virtue powerfully addresses the theme of folly and injustice in
the work: Filial piety prevails despite a father s folly, and goodness persists despite schemers
wickedness. However noble Cordelia is, King Lear is a tragedy in the sense that goodness and evils
are perpetually dueling. It is difficult to judge which triumphs in the end; justice is in the balance.
Such regrets are alarming, because a sacrifice is not enough to save humanity and the world from
hostility and

Character Analysis Of Nora Helmer In A Doll s House
Character Analysis of Nora Helmer in A Doll s House Imagine a world where Susan B. Anthony did
not right for a woman s right to vote or Katharine Hepburn did not defy Hollywood s ideal view of the
traditional female movie star. Women have not always been given such a voice or granted such a place
in marriage and society as they have today. In large part, the level of equality men and women share in
the present time is due to the bold and brave feminist literature writers of the nineteenth century. One
such writer being Henrik Isben who, in 1879, wrote his play A Doll s House. A Doll s House centers
around the character of Nora Helmer, wife to a wealthy, domineering husband, Torvald. As a
nineteenth century wife, Nora was conflicted throughout the play with the male chauvinistic view of a
woman s role in marriage and society and her own aspirations of self identity. In Act I of A Doll s
House, Isben introduced Nora to the audience through the viewpoint of how society thought of women
during that time childlike, uneducated, dependent, and submissive. The first act of the play starts off
when Nora had returned home from Christmas shopping, and Torvald was in the study. Singing and
giddy, Nora was excited for the Christmas festivities ahead for her husband and children. She snuck
macaroons from her pocket and ate them quickly and secretively, like a child sneaking a cookie before
dinner. Nora asked Torvald to come out of the study to see what she had bought. Several times

Everyone Has An Obligation To Give Back
Everyone Has An Obligation To Give Back
In modern age, the idea of doing something for free might sound strange and accepted in different
means by different individuals. However, it strongly depends on how you accept it, for instance,
volunteering, which has become popular in recent decades, is one of the greatest examples of giving
or doing something for free without getting paid. Volunteering is one of the most rewarding
experiences that individuals can have. Volunteering is a responsible work which requires time, effort,
and talent but gives an exciting impressions, helps to meet new people, acquaintances and gives an
opportunity to help those in need. In addition, there have been countless studies to show the benefits

The social contact aspect of helping and working with others can have a profound effect on your
overall psychological well being. While no monetary compensation is received, many will tell you
that their work and experiences gained as a volunteer were worth way more than any money they
could have earned from another work line. It builds self confidence and lifts the spirits. You are doing
well for others and the community, which provides a natural sense of accomplishment. Your role as a
volunteer can also give you a sense of pride and identity. And the better you feel about yourself, the
more likely you are to have a positive view of your life and future goals. Older adults, especially those
who have retired or lost a spouse, can find new meaning and direction in their lives by helping others.
Whatever your age or life situation, volunteering can help take your mind off your own worries, keep
you mentally stimulated, and add more zest to your life. Moreover, Studies have found that those who
volunteer have a lower mortality rate than those who do not. Older volunteers tend to walk more, find
it easier to cope with everyday tasks, are less likely to develop high blood pressure, and have better
thinking skills. Volunteering can also lessen symptoms of chronic pain and reduce the risk of heart
disease; this is because during the volunteering hours, you mind is enriched inversely with the joy

Social Movement Analysis
However, McLeod (2009) stated that there is very limited discourse when it comes to the media and
the two party systems only hinders the discourse even more (p. 116). People become less aware of the
happenings around them and may even have trouble identifying how they feel about issues and
conflicts when they arise. They could have a point of view outside of the norm but say nothing about
it because people and groups outside of the mainstream are treated as deviants (McLeod, 2009, p.
116).
McLeod (2009) investigated transcripts of the CNN and Fox News coverage of the conflict over U.S.
policy toward Iraq after the events of September 11, 2001 that lead to the war which began on March

Realism And Impressionism
Realism and Impressionism are two noteworthy periods in history of art during which distinctive types
of art including painting, architecture, music, essentially enhanced, mirroring the ideologies and
artistic philosophies during that time.
Throughout the movement of Realism in the 19th century, it had become common for Parisians to
make outings to the suburbs along the Seine and, although related scenes had already appeared in
illustrations and prints on themes of Parisian leisure, they were unusual as the subject matter for large
painting. In general terms of suburban leisure, Courbet s was first of what became a highly popular
topic for painting, especially among the Impressionists, from Édouard Manet Déjeuner sur l herbe and
Claude Monet On the bank of the Seine to George Seurat s A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La
Grande Jatte .
This essay compares and contrasts these two art periods regarding the major works created by
outstanding artists. In such manner, the work Young ladies on the banks of the Seine , created by
Gustave Courbet has been compared with Édouard Manet s painting Luncheon on the grass .
Courbet s painting depicts two young Parisiennes resting during the summer heat in a flowery spot
under overhanging trees on the shady banks of the Seine. The piece exhibited for the first time in Paris
in 1857 provoked a scandal caused mainly by the Courbet s choice of subject. He changed the
traditionally way of portraying women within a natural setting with

To Kill or Let Die
To kill or to let die What would you choose? You are standing on a platform at a train station. An out
of control train carriage is coming down the track past the platform, there are three workers repairing
the same track further down the line. They don t have time to get out of the way of the carriage, the
only way to save them would be to push the very large person next to you down the track, the person s
body will act to halt the train thus killing him but saving the three workers. A swift decision has to be
made, if I was in this situation I would choose to stand by and watch, letting the three people die,
because I believe it s better to be blamed for indirect killing rather than directly have blood on my
hands. I would let nature take its course.
Good arguments exist for both pushing the person onto the tracks and for not pushing them. The
argument for not pushing the large person is from the no harm principle which says that an action is
permissible if and only if it does not harm others. Since pushing the person next to me onto the tracks
below will kill them, and so harm them, the no harm principle appears to say that the act of pushing
them is not permissible. Since the act is not permissible, I should not therefore push them.
On the other hand, the argument for pushing comes from the minimize harm principle which says that
faced with two courses of action, you should choose that action which minimizes the amount of harm
that results. Since pushing the person

Nursing Care Collaboration Paper
Patients with complex chronic conditions can benefit from nurse led care coordination in ambulatory
care settings in the aspect of reductions in ED visits and hospitalizations. Nurses provide guided care
and facilitate cross setting communication and transition between specialty and primary providers
(Haas Swan, 2014). Nurses support patient decision making and self care management. Nurses hear
concerns and goals of patients and enhance their engagement in care interventions. Nurses empower
patients and families in understanding health care resources and seeking consultation prior to
increased severity of the disease (Forbes III, 2014). Care coordination is the deliberate organization of

Comparing Iron Henry And The Frog King
The writer may very well serve a movement of history as its mouthpiece, but he cannot of course
create it. Karl Marx. The words of Karl Marx have shaped nations and caused immeasurable change
across the globe. Perhaps it was his dedication to the plight of the working man, or maybe his defiance
of the ruling class, either way, there is no doubt that Karl Marx has influenced the lives of millions.
Similarly, the works of the Brothers Grimm, specifically Iron Henry and Hansel and Gretel (for this
essay), have also influenced the lives of millions, both young and old, as common icons of folklore. It
would be easy to gloss over these tales as nothing more than a simple tales, a closer inspection of the
authors may lead to more clues. According to a short biography on the Bros. Grimm, it turns out that
the brothers, ...were strongly influenced by feelings of national pride, (Myers). This fact, coupled with
the knowledge that the brothers were also in the service of several German ... Show more content on

The story of The Frog King, or, Iron Henry is ripe with symbols of class structure. In fact, the title
alone targets two characters of differing classes. Iron Henry is the servant that grieves and worries for
his friend, the bewitched frog/prince, ...faithful Henry had suffered such care and pain when his master
was turned into a frog, that he had been obliged to wear three iron bands over his heart, to keep it from

illustrated by his kindness and humility. In contrast, the royal princess is very rude and selfish, abusing
those she believes inferior to herself. This is demonstrated after the frog returns the princess ball, and

Art Analysis Of Laughing Rembrandt
Laughing Rembrandt on the canvas is a young person with huge jaw and shaved face. With the lined
up upper teeth which are in sequent, he is in a cheerful position. Face lines limits the above area of
month and crossing the edge of the noise, apprehends more than the physiological material world. The
eyes are staring out like sensing the three dimensional living. Each one is directing to a different
perspective As his head tilts, long sloppy hair is dancing in the air and the oscillation of the curved
lines are stunning. It feels like the whole body is vibrating and the ups and downs of the laughter is
painted with brush. Anti shock rigid vest which is glossier represents the high energy period of time
during twenties. Lively brushwork on copper makes the artwork wonderfully luminous. 2. Analysis of
Form:
Thinner brush is used for sketching curve lines blending together which resonance with not stable
emotional state during early adulthood. The focal point is his lips as they are painted in a warmer
color. In addition to lips, the forehead and hair style are emphasized. Rembrandt deliberately has
illustrated the lower value using shades. Regarding to the shining spot on his right upper corner of
forehead, the color theme is a mixture of brown to grayer, using orange as a monochromatic color, is
shadowed with respect to the light source. As an impressionist artist, he painted warm analogous color
tends the viewer to advance. The painting is in biomorphic shape as it is

TS Elliot s The Use of Poetry
In The Use of Poetry T.S. Elliot delineates the function of literature:
[Literature] may make us from time to time a little more aware of the deeper, unnamed feelings which
form the substratum of our being, to which we rarely penetrate; for our lives are mostly a constant
evasion of ourselves, and an evasion of the visible and sensible world.
In other words, reading literature goes beyond just the words of the author. As readers, we become
more aware of what the narrator and of what the characters might be feeling. There are feelings that
form our underlying base of who we are and a lot of the times we avoid them because they re a
constant reminder of what s real versus what we want to think is real. From time to time literature may
make the readers thing of something personal that gives us a sense of reality. Through John Updike s
Rabbit Run, Vladimir Nabokov s Pale Fire, Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings, James Joyce s Araby,
Patrick White s The Vivesector, and Jorge Luis Borges Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote readers
come to find a sense of reality within the characters portrayed through these works. In John Updike s
Rabbit Run, we see Harry Rabbit Angstrom constantly running from his problems throughout the
novel. The story begins telling us that Harry was a salesman who married a coworker Janice whom
was currently pregnant with their first child. Throughout the novel we come to find that Rabbit is very
self centered, even though he doesn t know what he

Why Nova Scotia Failed to Join the American Revolution
Abstract: This essay discusses why Nova Scotia failed to join the American Revolution. It discusses
the social, political, economic, geographic, as well as religious factors that led to Nova Scotians lack
of attachment to revolutionary ideology in the colonies.
During the time of the American Revolution, Nova Scotia was geographically on the northeastern
frontier of Massachusetts. No geographical feature separated Nova Scotia from Maine, which meant
that the Canadian province was very much a part of the Massachusetts colony. The question remains,
therefore, why Nova Scotia failed to join the American Revolution in 1776. There were, after all,
many new Englanders in Nova Scotia, and it remains a serious question as to why they did not ...

Indeed, while Nova Scotians were close to the events themselves, the settlements in Nova Scotia were
scattered along the edges of the long, narrow peninsula. The sea was the only road between
settlements. In many respects, therefore, there simply could not have been a united Nova Scotia.
Because of this fact, it made it difficult for Nova Scotia to join in the War for Independence. People
did not really feel united enough to have a serious cause. (Rawlyck, p.220)
Thus, though Nova Scotia was very much attached to Main and to the Massachusetts colony, the
geographical structure of the colony left Nova Scotia quite isolated from neighboring towns.
Meanwhile, the British controlled the North Atlantic. One cannot deny, therefore, a factor of
intimidation in this context, therefore, for even if some Nova Scotians did support the Yankees, they
felt the presence of British troops in Halifax. The colony was simply dominated by a strong British
military presence and a support for the Revolution would have sparked fear amongst any who
sympathized with it. (Brebner, p.261) Nova Scotians were well aware that there would be a military
confrontation with the British and no issue was really worth this danger.
In any case, even if Nova Scotians had wanted to participate in the Revolution, they did not really
have the military means to do so in any case. They were weak militarily and the strong British military
presence made it virtually impossible for any sort of

The growing number of homeless veterans in the city of Los Angeles is growing out control, this issue
is a social phenomenon that affects every city across the country; small or large. It is important to
understand that consequently, one way or another, this issue affects not only the homeless veteran, the
city, state and government, but every citizen within each city. Bring forth more attention to the fact
that additional resources are required; resources such as prevention programs, services, education and
vocational training, affordable housing, and medical services. In the last few years, government
officials have realized that the current services for veterans are inadequate or insufficient. The
government realizes that with the end of both wars, Iraq and Afghanistan, the number of homeless
veteran will surely increase. Additionally let s not forget that these are the men and women who put
their own lives in danger to protect our freedom and our way of life. After all that, the least we can do
is to ensure that they are provide with adequate post war services and training in order to adequately

Thermoregulation in the Neonate
THERMOREGULATION IN THE NEONATE
By: Shubhada Ponkshe
[pic]
INTRODUCTION:
Thermoregulation is a critical physiologic function that is closely related to the transition and survival
of the infant. An understanding of transitional events and the physiologic adaptations that neonates
must make is essential to helping the nurse provide an appropriate environment and help infants
maintain thermal stability.
Optimizing the thermal environment has proven significant for improving the chances of survival for
small infants. Understanding the basic physiologic principles and current methodology of
thermoregulation is important in the clinical care of these tiny infants.
Thermoregulation is the ability to balance heat production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These conditions make newborns are at risk because Infants have more skin surface per pound of body
weight than older children or adults, more skin means more radiant heat and more insensible water
loss. Less brown fat and glycogen stores decreased ability to maintain flexion increased body surface
area compared to weight.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HYPOTHERMIA / COLD STRESS:
Peripheral vasoconstriction: acrocyanosis, cold extremities, decreased peripheral perfusion.
CNS depression: lethargy, bradycardia, apnea, poor feeding
Increased pulmonary artery pressure: respiratory distress, tachypnea
Chronic signs: weight loss, failure to thrive
PREVENTION OF HYPOTHERMIA:
Hypothermia can be prevented by maintaining a neutral thermal environment and reducing heat loss.
For prevention in reduction of heat consider the four ways by which the neonate experiences heat loss
and intervene appropriately.
Convective heat loss can be prevented by:
Providing warm ambient air temperature Placing infants less than 1500 grams in incubators Keeping
portholes of the incubator closed Warming all inspired oxygen On open warmers keeping sides up and
covering infant if possible Using Infant Servo Temperature Control
Radiant heat loss can be prevented by:
Avoiding placement of incubators, warming tables and bassinets near cold windows,

Kiss And Run Fusion
Kiss and Run vs Full Fusion cell cycling at small hippocampal neurons
The highly important transmission of neurotransmitter at chemical synapses was found to be within
small vesicles (Katz, 1969) that fuse to the presynaptic membrane and then get recycled back into the
neuron. However, the methods of fusion and recycling are still being debated today, particularly at the
locality of small hippocampal neurons which typically contain around 30 functional vesicles (A. M.
Aravanis1, n.d.). The full collapse fusion method (reese, n.d.) is widely accepted and describes the full
collapse of the vesicle membrane into the plasma membrane and the clathrin mediated endocytosis
that follows. However the existence and importance of the Kiss and Run method ... Show more

which allows us to measure the endocytic rate of individual vesicles at these synapses with good time
resolution. In this study they use a pH sensor of exocytosis and endocytosis, a fluorescent protein that
reports fusion and retrieval of vesicles synaptophluorin. developed by meisenbock and colleagues.
This provides a fluoresces signal when the lumen of the vesicle is exposed to the external medium.
The results showed firstly that whatever the fate of the vesicle, the quantal size for retrieval remains
unchanged. They suggest that there are three modes of vesicle retrieval from their findings; firstly, the
fast kiss and run method with a selective fusion pore, a slow (8 21 s) compensatory mode; and a
stranded mode of recycling, in which a vesicle is left on the cell surface until a nerve impulse triggers
its retrieval. We have also observed that, in response to a nerve impulse, synapses with low release
probability primarily use the kiss and run mode, whereas high release probability terminals
predominantly use the compensatory mode of vesicle retrieval. Further work with the use of
synaptophlourin emerged with the combining of pH sensitive GFP (MEISENBOCK, n.d.)to
synaptophysin a synaptic vesicle protein to from syPhy (lagnado, n.d.) however, during these
experiments, they found only one

One in particular is the arrest of Lonnie David Franklin Jr. aka the Grim Sleeper last August in Los
Angeles, California. He was arrested for killing a confirmed 10 victims between 1985 and 2007 thanks
to a partial DNA match. Franklin had initially left DNA at the crime scene, but because he wasn t in
CODIS (the FBI s Combined DNA Index System) investigators hit a dead end. Finally, in 2010 they
found a partial match (15/16 alleles): one of Franklin s offspring. This led them right to Franklin
where they collected DNA and compared it to the sample taken from the crime scene and matched it.
This is one of the most convincing success stories of familial searching; finding a serial killer and
bringing him to justice almost a decade after the murders is an outstanding accomplishment for a
police department, so many others are following their lead and experimenting with the technique. But,
as of the end of 2016, only nine states allow it (McBride, 2016). Because of the many recorded
successes of this technique, many people are advocating for its use, especially family members of
victims whose killers have never been identified. One example of an advocate is the family of Katrina
Vetrano, a 30 year old woman from New York who was murdered last summer (Rosenberg, 2017).

Texting in Class Is Rampant
Crafting Draft 1
21 April 2014
Cellphones are most common in society. The ease of access allows us to have the world at our
fingertips 24 hours a day and we never have to unplug. We can surf the web, book a flight, check the
weather, and message a friend 1000 miles away without leaving our bed. Texting has fast become the
preferred form of communication for young adults; however, students need to be dissuaded from
texting during class because of the result in loss of valuable class time, lack of effective
communication skills, and consistent use of improper English leading to a negative impact on students
learning. Maryellen Weimer, PhD recently posted in Teacher Professor Blog most students don t multi

Lack of comprehension and poor course work will result in a lower grade average. Students may
become frustrated and give up easily. Using texting as a quicker and more efficient form of
communication takes the emotional connection out of the equation. It allows us to not be physically
near the recipient or to take responsibility for miscommunications that lead to hurt feelings. While
texting, students do not need to make eye contact with their recipient or learn to read their body
language. In addition, there is no need to learn the art of persuasive argument or exchanging and
building on ideas. This is not only harming students in the classroom, but can have negative effects
when entering the workforce. After leaving college, students hope to land a job in their field of
expertise. In the workforce, teams are a diverse collection of persons all ages and different cultures.
Texting may be acceptable in some situations, but there is still a great need for face to face
interactions. We learn how to become more comfortable meeting new people and interviewing for
jobs. There is nothing wrong the light banter between friends that texting can provide, but the
conversation is not necessarily deep. Texting allows us to stay in touch with others in a most efficient
way. We type a quick text, hit send, and in a matter of seconds our recipient has our text. Receiving a
text is fast, but typing out a clear, concise

For those who intend to live beautifully must be led through the life of the whole life by what neither

doing great things are needed for this symbiotic relationship. He also goes on to say how the beloved
affects the man s thinking when he does shameful acts. I then say that a man in love, if discovered
doing something shameful, or suffering it from another and failing cowardice to defend himself,
would not be pained so pained at being seen by his father or friends or anyone else as by his beloved.

Political Satire In Rob Sitch s Fat Chance
Analyse the way in which satire can provoke and engage its audiences. Through skillful manipulation
of language, irony and wit, satirical texts seek to highlight humanity s various vices and shortcomings,
and in so doing comment on prevailing social norms and attitudes. , Political satire, in particular, seeks
to elicit social awareness of the vices and foibles of political institutions, and through commentary that
ranges from mockery to condemnation, provides insight into the internal machinations and moral and
ideological ambiguity of politics. Rob Sitch s 2008 mockumentary The Hollowmenexposes the
clandestine nature of Australian politics where decisions are made based on nepotism and personal

The premise of the episode is a snap policy decision made on talkback radio to fight obesity by the
nameless, faceless prime minister. Making a wry comment on Australian politics, Sitch represents the
PM s uninspiring private secretary Tony and the other political advisors as the hollow men of
Australian politics. This is unequivocally conveyed through the verisimilitude of the time date
[quote/example], and panning images of Canberra. In naming the PM s advisors the central policy unit
or CPU , Sitch mocks the bureaucratic jargon which seems to define the policy making process. This
is further developed through constant use of political jargon, where the prime minister announces new
policy with a series of meaningless phrases such as raft of measures , speaking to all stakeholders ,
and provisional policy . , The superficial, short sighted and self serving nature of political decisions
humourously conveyed through the advisor Mel s concern, should we announce it at a hospital or at

Seneca Falls Convention And New York
Seneca Falls Convention The Seneca Falls Convention was the first woman s rights convention in the
United States. The assembly was organized by many women who were present in abolition and
temperance movements, and lasted for two days, July 19 20 on 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York. The
convention s main purpose was to bring attention to unequal treatment of women, and brought about
300 women, including around 40 men. The Seneca Falls Convention played a major role in women s
rights throughout the United States and is composed of important before, during, and aftermath
history. Eight years before the Seneca Falls Convention, in 1840, a World Anti Slavery Convention
was held in London. There, delegates had voted to not have women participate in the convention and
sit in a sectioned off area. At that time two of the Seneca Falls Convention organizers were present,
Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Lucretia Mott was a mid forties Quaker minister,
abolitionist, and feminist. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was young bride and abolitionist who admired
Mott, who soon became close friends. At some point during the convention, they spoke about the idea
of having a woman s rights convention. Eight years later, Stanton lived in Seneca Falls and Mott came
to visit her sister, Martha C. Wright, in a neighboring town Waterloo. While in a social visit on July

If you are a working American Citizen, you pay income tax. We are so used to the income tax that we

areas have local income tax. Do not forget about Social Security tax and Medicare. Now, imagine that

As tax time approaches, it s critical to understand which tax deductions are allowable for each
particular individual taxpayer. Basically, the IRS allows a deductions for business use of a home or

not. You obviously cannot deduct your entire home for business because you live there so follow the
steps below to help you determine what portion of your home is used for business: Determine if your
home is actually being used for business by meeting 2 of the next 3 conditions: Determine if most
administrative and managerial tasks are done from the home. Determine if your home office is a

square feet used for a home office or home based business by the total number of square feet in your

that may qualify. Determine which expenses are allowable as deductions: rent or mortgage, portion of

Discrimination And Discrimination Essay
It is a well known fact that in today s society there are large quantities of people from all age
demographics and all areas of the world that struggle with at least one mental illness. The unfortunate
part of this fact is that there is also a large amount of stigma surrounding mental illnesses which
causes mental illness patients to feel alone and unable seek needed help. Most of this stigma is due to
a lack of education and understanding of mental illnesses. This ignorance is what creates the majority
of negative connotations related to mental illnesses. But what would happen if our society had the
opportunity to become more educated about mental illnesses? It is important to educate people about
mental illness stigma in order to prevent discrimination and prejudice.
A study used a total of 303 adolescents that all completed a revised version of an Attribution
Questionnaire that described four different patients: a peer with a mental illness, a peer with a mental
illness caused by a brain tumor, a peer with an alcohol abuse problem, and a peer with leukemia. The
adolescents discriminated among conditions. Important variables that lead to discrimination were
blame and dangerousness. Adolescents who believed that mental illness patients are responsible for
their own illnesses believed that those patients are dangerous. This caused the adolescents to
discriminate more towards these patients. However, the adolescents did not feel the same way toward
alcohol abuse patients.

his arms around his parents, and they were very grateful for what St. Anthony had done for them. St.
Anthony showed his faith in God by defying the fact the man was dead and bringing him back to life.4
Many people heard about all the miracles that St. Anthony was doing. A woman was returning home
from one of St. Anthony s sermons found her child dead in his cradle. She was in such great grief not
knowing what to do when the great Wonder worker came across her mind. The woman went to him
with certainty and told him that her son was dead. She asked him to have sympathy for a mother s

had told her, she went home and found her child not only alive, but well and playing with marbles.
Anthony dispersed so many miracles and Divine favours that people called him The Sower of

meditation. After the strenuous religious life and its constant severity, he was determined to return to
regular life. He finished his manuscript and fled. A young scoundrel stole a copy of St. Anthony s

We Must Protect The Rainforest
Did you know that before threats from humans, the rainforests covered almost 15% of the earth? Now
rainforests only cover 6% of the earth around the world. I believe we should protect the rainforest
because they provide habitats and food for lots of species, their trees help prevent climate change, it
helps the inhabitants of the rainforest survive, and it provides natural medicines around the world.
As I said, rainforests provide natural medicines, food, and habitats for lots of species. The rainforest
provides everyday things like avocados, cashews, guavas, black pepper, coconuts, figs, citrus fruits
like oranges and lemons, bananas, corn, yams, cloves, vanilla, and chocolate. Andrew Einspruch,

Communities are part of everyday life and have positive affects on its members. Communities can be
found everywhere and can be created anywhere. You may be unaware of it, but you are part of a

Observing others behaviors lets one realize and understand more about different types and kinds of
people. Seeing how certain groups or communities act or react to situations lets us see more
perspective and hopefully appreciate their point of view. It is important to be part of communities for
much of the same reason. When you are part of a group, you understand and compromise with the
other members of the group. Discussing issues involving the community helps to lead to solutions.
Talking things through with other members improves social skills as well as relationships. Knowing
how people feel about certain issues let you know more about that person, and in turn, you learn more
about yourself. Hearing what other people have to say may sway your own opinions about something.
For example, maybe you are part of a church you thought you really believed in, but hearing the
discussions at the church meetings you start to think that you do not belong in this community.
Though that specific church may be the right place for many, you learn that you need a new church
community. Churches are communities because the members are unified in their common beliefs.
These communities are like families because the members support and help each other religiously and
they feel secure. Being a sound part of a community, you should continuously learn more and more
about yourself. As a member of a club, taking part in meetings and activities let you learn

The Synonyms Of Ragregation And Racism
Racism and segregation are two different things but often not completely known about fully. Racism is
the prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the
belief that one s own race is superior. Synonyms of racism include racial discrimination, racialism,
racial prejudice, xenophobia, chauvinism, bigotry, and casteism, a few of these synonyms were
unknown to me up until now. The definition of segregation in history is the separation or isolation of a
race, class, or ethnic group by enforced or voluntary residence in a restricted area, by barriers to social
intercourse, by separate educational facilities, or by other discriminatory means. The worst part was
that the legal system and the police supported segregation. The Jim Crow Laws were a major part in
segregation. While the most widely known group for racism is the KKK, The Ku Klux Klan with their
most known violent act, lynching. By 1914, Louisiana required separate entrances for blacks and
whites. In 1915, Oklahoma segregated telephone booths, 1920 in Mississippi made it a crime to
publish arguments or suggestions in favor of social equalities between whites and blacks. Arkansas
had segregated racetracks , Texas prohibited integrated boxing matches, meaning there would have
been no Mayweather vs Mcgregor, Kentucky required separate schools and no textbook would be
issued to a black while they were prohibiting interracial marriage. New Orleans created segregated red
light districts for white and black prostitutes. Also in Georgia, black ministers were stopped for

was a fully segregated society, from schools, to restaurants, hotels, train cars, waiting rooms,

church for both. The Jim Crow Laws was a group of laws and customs that enforced racial segregation

Policy Recommendations For Indonesia s Environmental Policies
VI. Policy Recommendations
While there is no blanket policy the Indonesian government can pass to magically stop deforestation,
there are a number of steps they can take to slow and hopefully eventually stop it. All of these steps
should address primarily the root cause of the problem, but also the proximate causes. First and
foremost, the government officials responsible for Indonesia s environmental policies should take the
time to become more educated on the impact of environmental problems in their region. They should
visit the affected areas, speak with the indigenous people, and find a way to understand that
deforestation is not just a means for generating a profit, but rather a means for depriving local people,
as well as wildlife, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Republic of Indonesia has approximately 8 Mha of grasslands that can produce palm oil with little
to no biodiversity loss. As mentioned above, oil palm companies harvest in the forest instead of on the
grasslands because they sell the timber they clear cut to hold them over until the oil palm trees begin
to grow. This, however, can be fixed if the government provided subsidies for companies to develop
on the grasslands instead of in the forest. These subsidies could hold the oil palm producers over until
it was time for them to harvest the oil palm trees. Providing this incentive tackles both misallocation
and the government s mismanagement of the forest. Instead of allowing companies to produce palm
oil in the forests, they would be encouraging them to switch to grasslands by altering the price. The
government should not stop there. They should also make it a lot more difficult, if not impossible, for
companies to log and produce palm oil in the areas that they specifically labeled as conservation and
protection forest, as well as require sustainable development of the production and conversion forests.
To do this, the government would need a lot more manpower for enforcement, something they
currently do not have. While, it would be nice if they could somehow generate the money to hire
dozens more people, there are potentially other options. The government could allow for indigenous
people to have a larger role in the saving of their

Dry Skin Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a perplexing, reoccurring immune system disorder described by red, flaky patches on the
skin. Those living with psoriasis need to battle the urge to scratch the red, flaky, and bothersome
patches of dry skin consistently. In any case, that doesn t mean the condition needs to assume control
over your life.
Here are six natural cures to soothe it s symptoms.
1. Dietary supplements can help ease psoriasis symptoms from within. Fish oil, milk thistle, vitamin
D, and evening primrose oil have been reported to help a few sufferers. It s imperative to just take
supplements that don t meddle with other prior conditions or have harmful side effects. Fish oil
applied specifically to the skin has additionally been known to work for some

Parasympathetic And Strengths
1) Describe the effects of the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems on the smooth
muscles of the eye
The smooth muscles of the eye are mainly controlled by the parasympathetic nervous system. The
activation of the parasympathetic system will cause the release of acetylcholine (Ach), which will act
on the m2 muscarinic receptors in the iris smooth muscle fibres. This will cause the pupil to constrict,
reducing the amount of light able to enter the eye. The release of Ach will also act on the m2
muscarinic receptors in the ciliary muscle, causing them to contract, relaxing the shape of the lens in
the eye (Rang and Dale, 2012). Therefore, the overall effect of the release of Ach will constrict the
pupil, reducing the amount of light entering the eye, this is known as miosis (University of Sydney,
2017). This differs from the activation of the sympathetic nervous system which will cause the release
of noradrenaline, which acts on the ⍺1 receptors in the radial smooth muscle fibres of the iris (dilator
pupillae), causing it to contract. The release or noradrenaline will also act on the β2 receptors of the
ciliary muscle causing them to relax, causing the lens to lengthen, however this is only a faint
response(Rang and Dale, 2012). Hence, the contraction of the iris sphincter and slight relaxation of the
ciliary muscles will cause the pupil of the eye to be dilated, increasing the amount of the light able to
enter the eye, this is known as mydriasis (University

Bead Game Essay
Bead Game by Ishu Patel was created in 1977. Bead Game is a stop motion animated film that was
created by arranging single beads into shapes lines, mammals, and mythological creatures. Further
into the film the creatures absorb and devour one another, creating other figures and creatures from the
remaining beads. These beads end up evolving into scenes of modern human warfare. In the beginning
of the film Patel begins with on simple white bead and continues to add other beads and color making
his arrangements of the beads into animated figures. While the beads dance there is sound of
percussion that compliments the movement of the beads due to the synchronization of both sound and
movement in the animation. The film reminded me of the creation of life; ... Show more content on

Patel animates the theory of human evolution by showing a monkey transforming into a caveman and
then into present day human. The film is successful in synchronizing the characters towards the end of
the film. Patel shows synchronization through his animating when there are two men throwing a spear
at one another and the beads are arranged in a way that the two mirror each other. Another historical
event that is portrayed is ancient warfare, dating all the way back to what seems to be around 2700
BCE. I began to notice a pattern or a timeline up to this point, starting with the creation of life then
going through important moments of the history of human creation. I think the creator of this film is
trying to say that a design can start off as something so small and simple, and then fueled by creativity
the design turns into an art form. This interpretation that I have made isn t obvious; it is just something
that I took away from the animation after watching it. Something that is noticeable throughout this
animation is how frequent the use of red is. Patel used red for his creatures that showed characteristics

Racism- An Aid to American Society
Racism An Aid to American Society?
Racism is actions, practices or beliefs, or social or political systems that consider different races to be
ranked as inherently superior or inferior to each other, based on presumed shared inheritable traits,
abilities, or qualities. (Newman, 2012) Racism has promulgated after the slavery in America, and
these practices are still evident in our generations today. Oftentimes, when the word racism is heard by
many, negative characteristics on these actions will be dominant. Many perceive racism as disrespect
to one s rich culture and heritage, thus causing a lot of hatred. Despite my strong objection on the act
of racism, I believe that racism played a major role in the development and rise to ... Show more

Racism is what justified America s thirst for expansion through the Manifest Destiny which gave an
ideological dimension to its actions. It is important to see, at this point, that America is a country
which gives a huge importance to its national beliefs which include liberalism, self determinism and
democracy. Tierney (2011) says that it is ingrained so much so that there is a liberal hegemony in the
way Americans think, making its existence natural to America and its inhabitants. The liberty of
Americans justifies the Manifest Destiny s expansionist ideas by its dimension of free development
for Americans. Race, here, became one of the determinants of who were to pay the price of that
development and who were to profit. While countries such as Russia and China imposed their
ideologies on their countries which already had their nationalist ideologies, America was born under
its own, making the connection between its core beliefs and Manifest Destiny an effective engine to
justify the latter. When the original version of the Manifest Destiny was accomplished in 1890, free
development was found to be possible through two more activities, nation building in the Americas
and Imperialism ( Manifest Destiny , n.d.).
Nation building took form in slavery in tobacco farms, developing from an economic venture to a
cultural endeavor (p.109, Fields, 1990). Slavery also led to the empowerment of the other citizens,
with both forming

Essay on Comparison Between the Great Gatsby and Ebb Sonnets
A deeper understanding of aspirations and identity emerges from considering the parallels between the
Great Gatsby and Browning s poetry . Compare how these texts explore aspirations and identity?
Both the texts The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald and Sonnets from the Portuguese by Elizabeth
Barrett Browning explore the ideas of aspirations and identity developing a deeper understanding of
the texts. Both texts share these ideas through the characters and the values of idealism and hope, and
personal voice and identity. Although the two texts are separated in time and context, they both reflect
the world of the text and composer.

She continues to list her idealized love in Sonnets 43 and 14, stating that love should be pure as men
turn from praise , a love which people endure because it is right and correct. She again through
imagery demands the purity of genuine love that can grow through time and endure on, through loves
eternity . This clearly explores the idea of aspirations, hope and idealism within the sonnet sequence.
The Sonnet sequence also involves the idea of identity with Barrett Browning coming to terms with
her emerging sexuality and realisation of love. The sequence was written by Barrett Browning thus
providing a personal voice to the sonnets allowing a portrayal of the sequence of events of her
personal identity and expression of love. Throughout the sonnet sequence Browning develops a
stronger sense and realisation of her love for Robert, hence shaping her identity. By sonnet 43 a series
of elements introduced by the simple phrase I love thee where the repetition intensifies the
affirmation, she declares that her love is free and pure and possesses passion. Most importantly
Browning now holds a sense of identity as she has achieved her idealized type of love.
The Great Gatsby was written in the early 20th Century during the period known as the Roaring
Twenties or the Jazz age . It was a time where money was

  • 3. Cloisonne Tripod Censer The 19th century luxurious Cloisonné tripod censer has no known artist and is labeled to be from 1644 to 1911. It is made of enamel on copper alloy with a dimension of 28cm in height. In a display with five objects, it was the most lavished in both form and colors. The ornamented pot can be associated with higher society or respected people because the material of copper and enamel are, unlike clay or bronzes, produced for specific groups of people with no mass production. Initially, the dominant light blue color didn t look like a typical Chinese censer that I ve seen before. However, like other censers we see in Chinese cultures today, this tripod censer would be seen as the centerpiece of an altar surrounded by vases and candlesticks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The colors used in the enamel are light blue as its main background that symbolizes the sky, dark blue, yellow, dark green, light green, red and white. Every shape has a thin golden outline, which explains the unique and non industrialized manufacturing process. The fluid patterns seem to be filling up the space in a non systematic nor a symmetrical way to reflect the natural behaviors of the plants. There are no composition or main point of focus. Thus, the patterns are there to create the surface rather than to illustrate a story. The empty areas such as the legs of the tripod are filled with curved vine patterns. The curling vines overlap each other, creating a sense of dimension and space on a flat surface. The leaf texture and lines make the vines recognizable. Moreover, the absence of the leaf on the middle section of the lid shows that the curls on the lid are clouds intertwining with smaller dragons that are hidden. This style reminisces the art of Zhou where interlacing animals formed intricate patterns. Coincidentally, this is where the smoke or the cloud of the incense will flow through. This censer portrays the commonly displayed theme of journey to heaven, as it is embodied by the elements of the plants on Earth and the clouds from heaven. The use of Leiwen patterns in the vines and clouds throughout the object helps unify the different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Research Study On Adolescent Suicide Essay Facilitating Connection and Saving Lives The purpose of this paper is to detail a group aimed to provide support for lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) adolescents. The paper begins by examining literature related to adolescent suicide rates, the lack of personal and community resources for teenagers, and adolescent development and mental health. The paper will then address the methodology, purpose, and goals of the group. The paper will address the role of the leader. He/she will utilize an Adlerian theoretical orientation and will be involved, directive, and authentic. The leader will attempt to facilitate social relatedness and corrective emotional experiences for group members. The paper will briefly review group evaluation, and it will examine potential ethical/multicultural issues that this leader and group may encounter. The paper will conclude by detailing activities that will be utilized throughout the six weeks of the group experience. Literature Review Adolescent Suicide and Distress One young person age ten to 19 takes his/her own life every 90 minutes (Gould et al. as cited in Kitts, 2005, p. 622). Russell and Joyner revealed that adolescents who identify as gay or lesbian are two times more likely to attempt suicide than straight adolescents (as cited in Kitts, 2005, p. 624). The risk factor for suicide for gay and lesbian adolescents is not their sexuality, but psychosocial distress they experience due to their sexuality (Kitts, 2005). Adolescents ... • 5. Theme Of Sacrifice In King Lear The nobility of a sacrifice lies in how it demonstrates where a person s priorities are held and how it contrasts ignoble deeds otherwise. In King Lear, Lear s youngest daughter Cordelia, by not accepting to play the game of love test, willingly sacrifices her dignity and honor as a king s daughter, surrenders her freedom for banishment and forfeits her possible inheritances and legacies from the retiring father. Out of her own choice, such willingness of self abnegation shines a light on Cordelia s virtue, love and devotion, if not loyalty, which are a moral compass that points to justice. Cordelia self abnegates for two causes, the first being her virtue, the second being her love for an ignorant father. Cordelia s sacrifice begins with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Out of familial love, Cordelia shines the play in the sense that she continues to exhibits her virtue even she is cast down and even she is discredited by her father. Moving to the reunion, where Cordelia stays with her father to redress Lear s faults and know better of himself, Cordelia s noble character culminates in apt personification of kindness and virtue that persist even the most difficult and abject of times. Moving to the end of the play, where Cordelia is murdered in its most dehumanizing sense, Cordelia finally becomes a sacrifice to the heartlessness of a skewed, unjust world. Suffice to say, Cordelia s redoubtable virtue powerfully addresses the theme of folly and injustice in the work: Filial piety prevails despite a father s folly, and goodness persists despite schemers wickedness. However noble Cordelia is, King Lear is a tragedy in the sense that goodness and evils are perpetually dueling. It is difficult to judge which triumphs in the end; justice is in the balance. Such regrets are alarming, because a sacrifice is not enough to save humanity and the world from hostility and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Character Analysis Of Nora Helmer In A Doll s House Character Analysis of Nora Helmer in A Doll s House Imagine a world where Susan B. Anthony did not right for a woman s right to vote or Katharine Hepburn did not defy Hollywood s ideal view of the traditional female movie star. Women have not always been given such a voice or granted such a place in marriage and society as they have today. In large part, the level of equality men and women share in the present time is due to the bold and brave feminist literature writers of the nineteenth century. One such writer being Henrik Isben who, in 1879, wrote his play A Doll s House. A Doll s House centers around the character of Nora Helmer, wife to a wealthy, domineering husband, Torvald. As a nineteenth century wife, Nora was conflicted throughout the play with the male chauvinistic view of a woman s role in marriage and society and her own aspirations of self identity. In Act I of A Doll s House, Isben introduced Nora to the audience through the viewpoint of how society thought of women during that time childlike, uneducated, dependent, and submissive. The first act of the play starts off when Nora had returned home from Christmas shopping, and Torvald was in the study. Singing and giddy, Nora was excited for the Christmas festivities ahead for her husband and children. She snuck macaroons from her pocket and ate them quickly and secretively, like a child sneaking a cookie before dinner. Nora asked Torvald to come out of the study to see what she had bought. However, it strongly depends on how you accept it, for instance, volunteering, which has become popular in recent decades, is one of the greatest examples of giving or doing something for free without getting paid. Volunteering is one of the most rewarding experiences that individuals can have. Your role as a volunteer can also give you a sense of pride and identity. And the better you feel about yourself, the more likely you are to have a positive view of your life and future goals. Older adults, especially those who have retired or lost a spouse, can find new meaning and direction in their lives by helping others. Whatever your age or life situation, volunteering can help take your mind off your own worries, keep you mentally stimulated, and add more zest to your life. Moreover, Studies have found that those who volunteer have a lower mortality rate than those who do not. Older volunteers tend to walk more, find it easier to cope with everyday tasks, are less likely to develop high blood pressure, and have better thinking skills. People become less aware of the happenings around them and may even have trouble identifying how they feel about issues and conflicts when they arise. They could have a point of view outside of the norm but say nothing about it because people and groups outside of the mainstream are treated as deviants (McLeod, 2009, p. 116). • 9. Realism And Impressionism Realism and Impressionism are two noteworthy periods in history of art during which distinctive types of art including painting, architecture, music, essentially enhanced, mirroring the ideologies and artistic philosophies during that time. Throughout the movement of Realism in the 19th century, it had become common for Parisians to make outings to the suburbs along the Seine and, although related scenes had already appeared in illustrations and prints on themes of Parisian leisure, they were unusual as the subject matter for large painting. In general terms of suburban leisure, Courbet s was first of what became a highly popular topic for painting, especially among the Impressionists, from Édouard Manet Déjeuner sur l herbe and Claude Monet On the bank of the Seine to George Seurat s A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte . This essay compares and contrasts these two art periods regarding the major works created by outstanding artists. In such manner, the work Young ladies on the banks of the Seine , created by Gustave Courbet has been compared with Édouard Manet s painting Luncheon on the grass . Courbet s painting depicts two young Parisiennes resting during the summer heat in a flowery spot under overhanging trees on the shady banks of the Seine. The piece exhibited for the first time in Paris in 1857 provoked a scandal caused mainly by the Courbet s choice of subject. • 10. To Kill or Let Die To kill or to let die What would you choose? You are standing on a platform at a train station. An out of control train carriage is coming down the track past the platform, there are three workers repairing the same track further down the line. They don t have time to get out of the way of the carriage, the only way to save them would be to push the very large person next to you down the track, the person s body will act to halt the train thus killing him but saving the three workers. A swift decision has to be made, if I was in this situation I would choose to stand by and watch, letting the three people die, because I believe it s better to be blamed for indirect killing rather than directly have blood on my hands. I would let nature take its course. Good arguments exist for both pushing the person onto the tracks and for not pushing them. The argument for not pushing the large person is from the no harm principle which says that an action is permissible if and only if it does not harm others. Since pushing the person next to me onto the tracks below will kill them, and so harm them, the no harm principle appears to say that the act of pushing them is not permissible. Since the act is not permissible, I should not therefore push them. On the other hand, the argument for pushing comes from the minimize harm principle which says that faced with two courses of action, you should choose that action which minimizes the amount of harm that results. Since pushing the person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The words of Karl Marx have shaped nations and caused immeasurable change across the globe. Perhaps it was his dedication to the plight of the working man, or maybe his defiance of the ruling class, either way, there is no doubt that Karl Marx has influenced the lives of millions. • 14. TS Elliot s The Use of Poetry In The Use of Poetry T.S. Elliot delineates the function of literature: [Literature] may make us from time to time a little more aware of the deeper, unnamed feelings which form the substratum of our being, to which we rarely penetrate; for our lives are mostly a constant evasion of ourselves, and an evasion of the visible and sensible world. In other words, reading literature goes beyond just the words of the author. As readers, we become more aware of what the narrator and of what the characters might be feeling. There are feelings that form our underlying base of who we are and a lot of the times we avoid them because they re a constant reminder of what s real versus what we want to think is real. From time to time literature may make the readers thing of something personal that gives us a sense of reality. Through John Updike s Rabbit Run, Vladimir Nabokov s Pale Fire, Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings, James Joyce s Araby, Patrick White s The Vivesector, and Jorge Luis Borges Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote readers come to find a sense of reality within the characters portrayed through these works. In John Updike s Rabbit Run, we see Harry Rabbit Angstrom constantly running from his problems throughout the novel. • 15. Why Nova Scotia Failed to Join the American Revolution Abstract: This essay discusses why Nova Scotia failed to join the American Revolution. It discusses the social, political, economic, geographic, as well as religious factors that led to Nova Scotians lack of attachment to revolutionary ideology in the colonies. During the time of the American Revolution, Nova Scotia was geographically on the northeastern frontier of Massachusetts. No geographical feature separated Nova Scotia from Maine, which meant that the Canadian province was very much a part of the Massachusetts colony. The question remains, therefore, why Nova Scotia failed to join the American Revolution in 1776. There were, after all, many new Englanders in Nova Scotia, and it remains a serious question as to why they did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indeed, while Nova Scotians were close to the events themselves, the settlements in Nova Scotia were scattered along the edges of the long, narrow peninsula. The sea was the only road between settlements. In many respects, therefore, there simply could not have been a united Nova Scotia. Because of this fact, it made it difficult for Nova Scotia to join in the War for Independence. People did not really feel united enough to have a serious cause. (Rawlyck, p.220) Thus, though Nova Scotia was very much attached to Main and to the Massachusetts colony, the geographical structure of the colony left Nova Scotia quite isolated from neighboring towns. Meanwhile, the British controlled the North Atlantic. One cannot deny, therefore, a factor of intimidation in this context, therefore, for even if some Nova Scotians did support the Yankees, they felt the presence of British troops in Halifax. The colony was simply dominated by a strong British military presence and a support for the Revolution would have sparked fear amongst any who sympathized with it. (Brebner, p.261) Nova Scotians were well aware that there would be a military confrontation with the British and no issue was really worth this danger. Kiss And Run Fusion Kiss and Run vs Full Fusion cell cycling at small hippocampal neurons The highly important transmission of neurotransmitter at chemical synapses was found to be within small vesicles (Katz, 1969) that fuse to the presynaptic membrane and then get recycled back into the neuron. However, the methods of fusion and recycling are still being debated today, particularly at the locality of small hippocampal neurons which typically contain around 30 functional vesicles (A. M. Aravanis1, n.d.). The full collapse fusion method (reese, n.d.) is widely accepted and describes the full collapse of the vesicle membrane into the plasma membrane and the clathrin mediated endocytosis that follows. In this study they use a pH sensor of exocytosis and endocytosis, a fluorescent protein that reports fusion and retrieval of vesicles synaptophluorin. developed by meisenbock and colleagues. This provides a fluoresces signal when the lumen of the vesicle is exposed to the external medium. The results showed firstly that whatever the fate of the vesicle, the quantal size for retrieval remains unchanged. They suggest that there are three modes of vesicle retrieval from their findings; firstly, the fast kiss and run method with a selective fusion pore, a slow (8 21 s) compensatory mode; and a stranded mode of recycling, in which a vesicle is left on the cell surface until a nerve impulse triggers its retrieval. We have also observed that, in response to a nerve impulse, synapses with low release probability primarily use the kiss and run mode, whereas high release probability terminals predominantly use the compensatory mode of vesicle retrieval. He was arrested for killing a confirmed 10 victims between 1985 and 2007 thanks to a partial DNA match. Franklin had initially left DNA at the crime scene, but because he wasn t in CODIS (the FBI s Combined DNA Index System) investigators hit a dead end. Finally, in 2010 they found a partial match (15/16 alleles): one of Franklin s offspring. This led them right to Franklin where they collected DNA and compared it to the sample taken from the crime scene and matched it. This is one of the most convincing success stories of familial searching; finding a serial killer and bringing him to justice almost a decade after the murders is an outstanding accomplishment for a police department, so many others are following their lead and experimenting with the technique. But, as of the end of 2016, only nine states allow it (McBride, 2016). Because of the many recorded successes of this technique, many people are advocating for its use, especially family members of victims whose killers have never been identified. One example of an advocate is the family of Katrina Vetrano, a 30 year old woman from New York who was murdered last summer (Rosenberg, 2017). The family believes that since all other investigative efforts have been exhausted, its time to start pushing for its use and as of March 2017, the DNA subcommittee of ... Using texting as a quicker and more efficient form of communication takes the emotional connection out of the equation. It allows us to not be physically near the recipient or to take responsibility for miscommunications that lead to hurt feelings. While texting, students do not need to make eye contact with their recipient or learn to read their body language. In addition, there is no need to learn the art of persuasive argument or exchanging and building on ideas. This is not only harming students in the classroom, but can have negative effects when entering the workforce. After leaving college, students hope to land a job in their field of expertise. In the workforce, teams are a diverse collection of persons all ages and different cultures. Texting may be acceptable in some situations, but there is still a great need for face to face interactions. We learn how to become more comfortable meeting new people and interviewing for jobs. There is nothing wrong the light banter between friends that texting can provide, but the conversation is not necessarily deep. Texting allows us to stay in touch with others in a most efficient way. Seeing how certain groups or communities act or react to situations lets us see more perspective and hopefully appreciate their point of view. It is important to be part of communities for much of the same reason. When you are part of a group, you understand and compromise with the other members of the group. Discussing issues involving the community helps to lead to solutions. Talking things through with other members improves social skills as well as relationships. Knowing how people feel about certain issues let you know more about that person, and in turn, you learn more about yourself. Hearing what other people have to say may sway your own opinions about something. For example, maybe you are part of a church you thought you really believed in, but hearing the discussions at the church meetings you start to think that you do not belong in this community. Though that specific church may be the right place for many, you learn that you need a new church community. Churches are communities because the members are unified in their common beliefs. These communities are like families because the members support and help each other religiously and they feel secure. Being a sound part of a community, you should continuously learn more and more about yourself. As a member of a club, taking part in meetings and activities let you learn ... • 41. The Synonyms Of Ragregation And Racism Racism and segregation are two different things but often not completely known about fully. Racism is the prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one s own race is superior. Synonyms of racism include racial discrimination, racialism, racial prejudice, xenophobia, chauvinism, bigotry, and casteism, a few of these synonyms were unknown to me up until now. The definition of segregation in history is the separation or isolation of a race, class, or ethnic group by enforced or voluntary residence in a restricted area, by barriers to social intercourse, by separate educational facilities, or by other discriminatory means. The worst part was that the legal system and the police supported segregation. The Jim Crow Laws were a major part in segregation. While the most widely known group for racism is the KKK, The Ku Klux Klan with their most known violent act, lynching. By 1914, Louisiana required separate entrances for blacks and whites. In 1915, Oklahoma segregated telephone booths, 1920 in Mississippi made it a crime to publish arguments or suggestions in favor of social equalities between whites and blacks. Arkansas had segregated racetracks , Texas prohibited integrated boxing matches, meaning there would have been no Mayweather vs Mcgregor, Kentucky required separate schools and no textbook would be issued to a black while they were prohibiting interracial marriage. New Orleans created segregated red light districts for white and black prostitutes. Also in Georgia, black ministers were stopped for performing marriages between white couples. As the United States entered World War II, the South was a fully segregated society, from schools, to restaurants, hotels, train cars, waiting rooms, elevators, public bathrooms, colleges, hospitals, cemetery, swimming pools, drinking fountains, prisons, and even churches. There were churches for whites and churches for blacks, but never one church for both. The Jim Crow Laws was a group of laws and customs that enforced racial segregation and discrimination throughout the United States from the late 1900 s to the 1960 s , especially in the South. • 42. Policy Recommendations For Indonesia s Environmental Policies VI. Policy Recommendations While there is no blanket policy the Indonesian government can pass to magically stop deforestation, there are a number of steps they can take to slow and hopefully eventually stop it. All of these steps should address primarily the root cause of the problem, but also the proximate causes. First and foremost, the government officials responsible for Indonesia s environmental policies should take the time to become more educated on the impact of environmental problems in their region. They should visit the affected areas, speak with the indigenous people, and find a way to understand that deforestation is not just a means for generating a profit, but rather a means for depriving local people, as well as wildlife, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Republic of Indonesia has approximately 8 Mha of grasslands that can produce palm oil with little to no biodiversity loss. As mentioned above, oil palm companies harvest in the forest instead of on the grasslands because they sell the timber they clear cut to hold them over until the oil palm trees begin to grow. This, however, can be fixed if the government provided subsidies for companies to develop on the grasslands instead of in the forest. These subsidies could hold the oil palm producers over until it was time for them to harvest the oil palm trees. Providing this incentive tackles both misallocation and the government s mismanagement of the forest. Instead of allowing companies to produce palm oil in the forests, they would be encouraging them to switch to grasslands by altering the price. The government should not stop there. They should also make it a lot more difficult, if not impossible, for companies to log and produce palm oil in the areas that they specifically labeled as conservation and protection forest, as well as require sustainable development of the production and conversion forests. To do this, the government would need a lot more manpower for enforcement, something they currently do not have. While, it would be nice if they could somehow generate the money to hire dozens more people, there are potentially other options. The government could allow for indigenous people to have a larger role in the saving of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Parasympathetic And Strengths 1) Describe the effects of the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems on the smooth muscles of the eye The smooth muscles of the eye are mainly controlled by the parasympathetic nervous system. The activation of the parasympathetic system will cause the release of acetylcholine (Ach), which will act on the m2 muscarinic receptors in the iris smooth muscle fibres. This will cause the pupil to constrict, reducing the amount of light able to enter the eye. The release of Ach will also act on the m2 muscarinic receptors in the ciliary muscle, causing them to contract, relaxing the shape of the lens in the eye (Rang and Dale, 2012). Therefore, the overall effect of the release of Ach will constrict the pupil, reducing the amount of light entering the eye, this is known as miosis (University of Sydney, 2017). This differs from the activation of the sympathetic nervous system which will cause the release of noradrenaline, which acts on the ⍺1 receptors in the radial smooth muscle fibres of the iris (dilator pupillae), causing it to contract. The release or noradrenaline will also act on the β2 receptors of the ciliary muscle causing them to relax, causing the lens to lengthen, however this is only a faint response(Rang and Dale, 2012). Hence, the contraction of the iris sphincter and slight relaxation of the ciliary muscles will cause the pupil of the eye to be dilated, increasing the amount of the light able to enter the eye, this is known as mydriasis (University ... • 47. Bead Game Essay Bead Game by Ishu Patel was created in 1977. Bead Game is a stop motion animated film that was created by arranging single beads into shapes lines, mammals, and mythological creatures. Further into the film the creatures absorb and devour one another, creating other figures and creatures from the remaining beads. These beads end up evolving into scenes of modern human warfare. In the beginning of the film Patel begins with on simple white bead and continues to add other beads and color making his arrangements of the beads into animated figures. While the beads dance there is sound of percussion that compliments the movement of the beads due to the synchronization of both sound and movement in the animation. The film reminded me of the creation of life; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patel animates the theory of human evolution by showing a monkey transforming into a caveman and then into present day human. The film is successful in synchronizing the characters towards the end of the film. Patel shows synchronization through his animating when there are two men throwing a spear at one another and the beads are arranged in a way that the two mirror each other. Another historical event that is portrayed is ancient warfare, dating all the way back to what seems to be around 2700 BCE. I began to notice a pattern or a timeline up to this point, starting with the creation of life then going through important moments of the history of human creation. I think the creator of this film is trying to say that a design can start off as something so small and simple, and then fueled by creativity the design turns into an art form. This interpretation that I have made isn t obvious; it is just something that I took away from the animation after watching it. Something that is noticeable throughout this animation is how frequent the use of red is. Patel used red for his creatures that showed characteristics of being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Racism- An Aid to American Society Racism An Aid to American Society? Racism is actions, practices or beliefs, or social or political systems that consider different races to be ranked as inherently superior or inferior to each other, based on presumed shared inheritable traits, abilities, or qualities. (Newman, 2012) Racism has promulgated after the slavery in America, and these practices are still evident in our generations today. Oftentimes, when the word racism is heard by many, negative characteristics on these actions will be dominant. Racism is what justified America s thirst for expansion through the Manifest Destiny which gave an ideological dimension to its actions. It is important to see, at this point, that America is a country which gives a huge importance to its national beliefs which include liberalism, self determinism and democracy. Tierney (2011) says that it is ingrained so much so that there is a liberal hegemony in the way Americans think, making its existence natural to America and its inhabitants. The liberty of Americans justifies the Manifest Destiny s expansionist ideas by its dimension of free development for Americans. Race, here, became one of the determinants of who were to pay the price of that development and who were to profit. While countries such as Russia and China imposed their ideologies on their countries which already had their nationalist ideologies, America was born under its own, making the connection between its core beliefs and Manifest Destiny an effective engine to justify the latter. When the original version of the Manifest Destiny was accomplished in 1890, free development was found to be possible through two more activities, nation building in the Americas and Imperialism ( Manifest Destiny , n.d.). Nation building took form in slavery in tobacco farms, developing from an economic venture to a cultural endeavor (p.109, Fields, 1990). Slavery also led to the empowerment of the other citizens, with both forming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Comparison Between the Great Gatsby and Ebb Sonnets A deeper understanding of aspirations and identity emerges from considering the parallels between the Great Gatsby and Browning s poetry . Compare how these texts explore aspirations and identity? Both the texts The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald and Sonnets from the Portuguese by Elizabeth Barrett Browning explore the ideas of aspirations and identity developing a deeper understanding of the texts. Both texts share these ideas through the characters and the values of idealism and hope, and personal voice and identity. She continues to list her idealized love in Sonnets 43 and 14, stating that love should be pure as men turn from praise , a love which people endure because it is right and correct. She again through imagery demands the purity of genuine love that can grow through time and endure on, through loves eternity . This clearly explores the idea of aspirations, hope and idealism within the sonnet sequence. The Sonnet sequence also involves the idea of identity with Barrett Browning coming to terms with her emerging sexuality and realisation of love. The sequence was written by Barrett Browning thus providing a personal voice to the sonnets allowing a portrayal of the sequence of events of her personal identity and expression of love. Throughout the sonnet sequence Browning develops a stronger sense and realisation of her love for Robert, hence shaping her identity. By sonnet 43 a series of elements introduced by the simple phrase I love thee where the repetition intensifies the affirmation, she declares that her love is free and pure and possesses passion. Most importantly Browning now holds a sense of identity as she has achieved her idealized type of love.
