C-Sections Analysis
I was very surprised to learn that elective C sections were actually something that was done. I had
always just assumed that C sections were only done in emergency situations/complications, when
babies were breach, or if the mother had had prior C sections. Women often choose an elective C
section because they think it is more convenient than waiting around for labor to occur on its own.
Other mothers have the idea that it will be less painful or prevent tearing, sexual dysfunction, or other
complications that go along with vaginal deliveries. In the film, they started talking about how women
in New York were having C sections and then tummy tucks immediately following. Many people do
not consider a C section a major surgery, but it really

Separating Peace By Character In John Knowles A Separate...
Separating Peace Character By Character A Separate Peace is a novel based around a group of high
school boys in a private college preparatory school named Devon. Most of Devon s students want,
have, or search for peace throughout their time at school. Upon return from summer break, each
character searches for and discovers their peace. The words separate and peace represent a variety of
ideas in Knowles novel, especially for Gene, Phineas, and Leper. I believe author John Knowles chose
this title to imply individuals may possess their own unique peace. Each character in A Separate Peace
naturally had their own peace and each chose either to embrace their inner peace or to fight against it.
The character Leper was a quiet, odd man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That would be Gene s odd peace appearing to have the need of being top dog and having no rivalries,
and being rid of anyone he could even have an inkling of jealousy against. In the text he says, ... I
couldn t help envying him (Finny) that a little, which was perfectly normal. There was no harm in
envying even your best friend a little. This quote was when Finny did not get in trouble at the Master s
Tea for dressing against school code because he talked his way out of it. This was when the rivalry
between Gene and what he believed was Finny, but was really only one sided (Finny had no thoughts
pertaining to this) started. This is a very rare peace. I hardly ever see where someone finds peace by
envying and wanting major personal competition with their close friends. The full picture of Gene s
peace included being top dog, doing the best in school, aiming for valedictorian, and having no
opposition from anyone else. Most inward peace hinges on upbeat feelings, but Gene s character is
different. His self peace came only after he had gotten rid of the one person he was jealous of and was
completely rid of any anger or hatred. It is stated in the novel, My fury was gone, I felt it gone, dried
up at the source, withered and lifeless. Phineas had absorbed it and taken it with him, and I was rid of

Seizing the Day in Robert Herrick’s poem, “To the...
To what extent may an argument be framed as believable or serious? Persuasion on seizing the day is a
common theme in Robert Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time and Andrew Marvel
s To His Coy Mistress . The arguments within the poems can seem unrealistic, a little hyperbolic, with
an underlying intent to acquire a woman to sleep with them. The concrete position of all the arguments
within the two poems seems to be, getting a woman to sleep with them. The two poets posses
similarities between the two pieces of poetry, however argue the topics in different ways. Beauty is not
forever lasting, coyness put aside, while pleasure embraced, and time is of the essence; are all points
made to intrigue women to be with them. To focus on those points a little: The beauty of a woman is
compared to aspects of nature. Herrick s poem only looks at the physical qualities of a woman, unlike
Marvel s, which references personality along with physical traits. Sexual passion embraced, and
coyness set aside? The poets, both urge women to act upon sexual urges while they stay youthful, but
if a woman was told they are not going to be desired when older, would they actually want to be with
someone who tells them that? Time is moving quickly and its made known within the poems. Herrick
is an advocate to relate everything to physical aspects, so of course he says a woman s beauty
diminishes quickly. Marvel does not relate beauty and time together, instead he would

EXAMPLES OF GOOD STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
Disney
In 1984, Disney s stock price had been flat for a decade. Earnings per share were only $0.06. Disney
had profits that year of $242 million. By this point in time Disney had become primarily a theme park
company. Seventy seven percent of its profits came from theme park operations that year. Twenty two
percent of profits came from consumer products (licensing Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, etc.). Only
one percent of profits came from filmed entertainment in 1984. Indeed, Disney had become a different
company from what Walt Disney and his brother Roy O. Disney left behind. In 1971 when Roy O.
Disney died (he became CEO when Walt died in 1966), 50% of the company s profits came from

He knew the liquid soap would be easy to manufacture and that he could buy the pumps from one or
both of the two existing pump manufacturers. Procter amp; Gamble, and probably others, would have
quickly imitated his product and most likely driven him out of business. These other manufacturers
were many times larger than Minnetonka.
However, Taylor engaged in a form of internal analysis by recognizing that even though these larger
companies had a resource advantage when it came to manufacturing and marketing the liquid soap,
they had no advantage when it came to the pump bottles. He recognized that if he bought all the pump
bottle production of the two manufacturers he would have an advantage over firms much larger than
Minnetonka. Taylor bought all the pumps the two manufacturers could produce in a year. He paid
more for these orders of pumps than Minnetonka was worth at the time. The strategy worked. He had
a 12 18 month lead over his much larger competitors in which he was able to establish the Softsoap
brand and capture market share. (Brandenburger amp; Nalebuff, 1995, The Right Game: Use Game
Theory to Shape Strategy, Harvard Business Review.)

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech By Florence Kelley
In the early 1900 s the woman suffrage movement about took america captive. But only because these
women felt like they were the prisoners. During this time many women boldly spoke out about their
inability to vote, a right that is meant for everyone. Countless protests, speeches, and rallies eventually
lead to women gaining this right. But one of them stood out from the rest. Florence Kelley wasn t as
pressing as other activists, yet she was just as effective. In one of her most famous speeches she talks
about child labor law faults, and that if women are not allowed to vote then the laws will likely never
change. In this enlightening piece, Kelley focuses on convincing the audience to fight for better child
labor laws by using imagery to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience is already feeling upset and angry about the conditions that these children are thrust into,
but Kelley begins to create a different emotion in them. Guilt. Kelley states, Tonight while we sleep,
several thousand little girls will be working in textile mills... while we sleep little white girls will be
working... And they will do so tonight, while we sleep. The repetition creates a strong sense of guilt.
She is saying that while we sleep these children are working in unfair conditions for unfair wages and
we do nothing about it, well nothing except sleep. With this weighing on their consciences, the
audience is much more likely to take action against this evil. But the guilt trip doesn t end there. She
goes on to say, The children make our shoes... our stockings. Our knitted underwear... and our cotton
underwear. This again puts some of the blame on audience. By repeating the word out Kelley is
essentially pointing out that even though the audience may not be directly responsible, the fact that
these kids work is almost a sin of omission. Without people to talk for them, how will they ever escape
this vicious cycle of unfair work and conditions? This is the exact thought that Kelley is trying to
invoke by her use of repetition. She wants her audience to feel bad about these terrible things being
done, which will then

The Legacy Of John Towner Williams The Star Wars Saga
John Towner Williams is considered one of the most successful composers in the last century. He has
scored many popular movies and has many other notable works. Involved in major works including
Jaws, ET, Indiana Jones, the Harry Potter Series, and his critically acclaimed work in the Star Wars
saga, Williams is undoubtedly one of the best in the business. Williams holds a commanding position
over many of his colleagues, and fellow composers to this day. Williams has won five Academy
Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, seven British Academy Awards, and twenty two Grammys.
Boasting a dominant fifty Academy Award nominations, and following only Walt Disney, John

Once finished with his service, Williams moved back to the Empire State to study at the most
prestigious music school in the world, The Juilliard School. Williams spent his time gigging around
New York and studying profusely. Working under Rosina Lhevinne, Russian pianist and composer,
Williams became more in touch with Tchaikovsky, Rhim, Wagner, and branched into neo romanticism.
By becoming more familiar with these composers, Williams grasped a better concept of leitmotif by
which helped him to pursue a career in film scoring.
Williams moved back to Los Angeles and began working immediately. He composed, scored, and was
featured performing in several films throughout the seventies. This granted him a plethora of
experience and recognition. It wasn t until 1974 that he was asked by director Steven Spielberg to
write the score for his debut film, Sugarland Express. This was only the beginning of their partnership,
and would work on several films through out the seventies this including Jaws, and Close Encounters
of the Third Kind.
Steven Spielberg recommended Williams to an ambitious George Lucas who needed a score for his
one of a kind, Star Wars. This was the beginning of the rest of Williams career, as Star Wars broke
multiple box office records, and won several academy awards, including best musical score. Luke s

Business Law 100
Question (a) Identify the principle of law The principles of law relevant to this question are the
doctrines of intention and consideration. Explain the rules of law The doctrine of intention is an
undertaking by both sides of an agreement to be legally bound either by an informal agreement such
as verbal intention to purchase or act, or a written document stating intention to purchase or act, which
could be in the form of a letter or a written statement as compared to a formal agreement where a deed
is prepared stating the intention of the contract which is signed and witnessed by independent third
parties and, although not necessary, sealed with a company or personal seal. In a commercial
agreement the intention to be legally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore the object of equal exchange is not necessary. In bilateral contracts when two parties
promise to provide consideration to each other the contract becomes valid immediately the parties
exchange promises as the promise to each other is deemed sufficient consideration. Apply the law to
the facts The points of discussion are to consider whether the elements of intention and consideration
have been met to enforce a contract. The intention of both Jamie and Gina to act is made clear when
Gina calls for tenders to build accommodation facilities at her mine site and Jamie submits a tender,
this in itself is not sufficient enough to form a contract as no promises of exchange have been agreed
to or accepted. At this point Jamie has made an offer to Gina indicating his intention in exchange for a
consideration of money and Gina has indicated her intention, in exchange for goods and services. Gina
decides to accept Jamie s tender and in doing so sends a formal document in the form of a letter to
Jamie, stating the terms and conditions of her acceptance. It is at this point that Gina has accepted
Jamie s tender and the terms of intention and consideration to form a contract have been met by Gina
and now relies on Jamie being able to meet the terms of the contract and giving a formal reply to Gina
to complete the contract. Jamie is going to accept Gina s terms and conditions and does so by

Secondhand Smoke Is Unhealthy For Everyone, Especially For...
Secondhand smoke is unhealthy for everyone, especially for young children. Children are more
susceptible to suffer the detrimental health effects of secondhand smoke because they breathe in more
air than adults due to their size and weight. In addition, children are constantly growing and
developing. During their development stage, children are more sensitive to the consequences of
secondhand smoke, which is ultimately dangerous to their immune and respiratory systems.
Furthermore, secondhand smoke is significantly harmful to children with asthma, which is a chronic
health condition whose symptoms include coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. Children,
both with and without asthma, are powerless to protect themselves from the dangers of secondhand
smoke, so we the adults have to protect them. Secondhand smoke, also referred to as environmental
tobacco smoke, primarily comes from cigars and cigarettes The effects of breathing in secondhand
smoke is equivalent to smoking a cigarette. In addition, the chemicals released by cigarettes and cigars
contain many poisons, such as benzene, butane, ammonia, toluene, and hydrogen cyanide (American
Lung Association). These poisons from secondhand smoking are prevalent in children s surroundings,
causing them to breathe these toxins in homes, day cares, and cars. Children who are exposed to these
toxins are at an increased risk for sudden infant death syndrome, acute respiratory infections such as
bronchitis and pneumonia, otitis

Advanced Procurement And Dispute Resolution
Advanced Procurement And Dispute Resolution (CW 2)
Within this piece of coursework I will explain and compare various dispute resolution options that are
used within the construction industry. The commonly used options that I will be going into further
detail are mediation, adjudication, litigation and arbitration. These options will then be evaluated, and
then explained of when they should be used. These four options are commonly used within the
construction industry to resolve legal arguments that have arisen from various disputes.
Mediation is commonly used within the construction industry when a dispute between parties arises,
and legal action is needed. Being used as a consensual process of dispute resolution, in which a third

Where in the process Evaluative mediation is used, the initial mediator will learn all of the facts of the
case which has been brought forward. After reviewing the case, the mediator will then express their
views on the overall merits as they can see them. Conciliation may initially be a form of evaluative
mediation, for example if the conciliator does not reach a settlement acting in facilitative mode, then a
recommendation evaluating how, with their views the overall matter should be resolved. Advantages
and disadvantages of mediation are as follows;
 Quick (Carried out in days)
 Cost Effective
 Flexible process
 Relatively informal
Disadvantages;
 Does not always result in a settlement agreement
 Legal precedent cannot be set in mediation
 Mediation has no formal discovery process
Adjudication is a statutory or contractual procedure for quick interim dispute resolution. Adjudication

Descriptive Essay On Hyde Park
When it comes to Hyde Park I m reminded of all of those old Hollywood movies. I m pretty sure that
a werewolf or two once ran through Hyde Park and it was definitely mentioned in some Sherlock
Holmes movies. I also believe that Hyde Park is one of the most popular parks in London, England. It
is a part of the Royal Parks of London. Hyde Park is one of the greatest city parks in the world and has
over 4,000 trees as well as a large lake, a meadow and there are wonderful ornamental flower gardens.
It has something for everyone to enjoy. In the park people can swim, go boating, cycling and skating.

The large artificial lake which is known as the Serpentine, located at the south end of the park. This
lake extends onward toward the north and goes into Kensington Gardens where its name changes to
Long Water. The lake is very popular for swimming and boating.
To the southwest is the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain which looks more like an
artificial stream. It is a circular fountain which is made up of 545 pieces of Cornish granite. Water
from it flows on two sides at the top and winds up in a small pool at the bottom.
Odd as it may sound there is Rotten Row. No nothing to do with anything rotten. It is located at the
south end of Hyde Park and is a famous bridle path. Rotten Row is about 4 miles long and is used for
horse riding and also for jogging. William III used this road quite often in the 17th century. Since the

Essay on the African American Dream in Song of Solomon
The African American Dream in Song of Solomon
Like most Americans, African Americans have developed variations of the American Dream. Many
African Americans find that their dream differs from the traditional American dream in that there is no
immediate success. Sometimes the dream consists of equality via liberty or literacy, while at other
times it is a simple desire to know self through historical connection.
In Toni Morrison s Song of Solomon, Milkman was literate and had many options for further
education, if so desired. Milkman was apathetic toward education and work. In fact, he was not sure

s life. Once Milkman arrives into Shalimar, Virginia, the town in which Pilate spent much of her
earlier life, he discovers that Guitar has left him a message. As voiced by a local, Yeah. Said to tell you
your day was sure coming or your day...something like that...your day is here (262). Milkman receives

struggle becomes his true struggle for life, not his fighting against those that surround his life. In this

Han China Dbq Analysis
Classical Athens put the power in the hands of the people and let them decide who should govern their
society. Han China believed that heaven chose who was best to rule via Mandate of Heaven (
Document 6 ). Although there are little similarities, there are a wide variety of differences between the
two. The three main differences lay in the government, social structures, and religious beliefs.
Athens had a Meritocracy. A meritocracy is a society governed by the people selected according to
merit. Basically governed officials were chosen by the people for the people. Men of Athens had a
voice and were able to participate in these elections. No one man was ever allowed to have all of the
power ( Document 4 ). In contrast to, Han China was the complete opposite when it came to
governing. The emperor and his officials were in control. The educated bureaucrats and aristocrats had
some say in who was going to rule whereas lower classes had no say. ... Show more content on

other words, the Chinese were very omnist, and open to many religions.

Secondly, the importance of using after tax discount rates and the
equivalency of net present value rates of return and internal rates of return that follow as a
consequence is reviewed, again discussed in detail in [1], [2] and [3]. This foundation provides the
critical model structure and valuation framework from which risk adjusted discount rates and liability
beta can be determined.
An important principle is introduced that being that the risk adjusted total rate of return must equal the
risk free rate. This fundamental principle provides a stepping stone from which a direct estimate of the
liability beta becomes possible within the total return framework. Liability betas are shown in The
relationship to the total return to shareholders and the linkage with equity betas demonstrated.
sensitivity of the underwriting profit margin to variations in loss payout, investment yield, market risk
premium and leverage is demonstrated and discussed.
Liability betas cannot be directly measured, and Cummins [6] and Fairley [9] presented approaches to
estimate them. Kozik [10] discussed the many problematic aspects of CAPM and liability beta theory,
demonstrating why any estimate of liability beta is likely to be subject to much debate. It is important
to keep in mind, however, that the development of a liability beta is a secondary objective to that of
determining the appropriate risk adjusted discount, rate. This paper proposes a shift in focus

Tutankhamun Continuity
Tutankhamun is one of the most famous and instantly recognisable Pharaohs of the modern world
even though he lived and reigned over 3,000 years ago. The boy King was born in the 11th year of his
father s reign in 1345 BCE and died in 1327 BCE at the age of just 17 or 18 after only being in power
for 8 years. Until archaeologist Howard Carter discovered his almost fully intact tomb in the Valley of
the Kings in 1922 CE, the pharaoh was almost unheard of due to the common belief that he was a
minor ruler, whose reign was of little consequence. However after this discovery and subsequent
discoveries due to excavations, analysis of his mummy and other historical evidence, opinions
changed, so much so that today Tutankhamun is recognized as an important ... Show more content on

Amenhotep IV commenced his reign in 1353 BCE and was of the 18th Dynasty of Egypt. When
Amenhotep IV came to power, the priests of Amun had been gradually growing in power and were
almost equal with the royal house in terms of wealth and influence. During the 5th year of his reign he
outlawed the ancient religion which was centered on the worship and offerings to many Gods in
particular those of the composite deity Ra Amun Horus (Ra daytime sun, Amun underworld sun,
Horus the sunrise). He then changed his name to Akhenaten, proclaiming himself to be the living
incarnation of the all powerful, single deity known as Aten (The visible sun). Traditionally, as
described in the Coffin Texts of the Middle kingdom, the Aten was the name for the sun disk and in
the Story of Sinuhe , Amenemhat I is described to have soared into the sky, uniting with the Aten, his
creator. The early stages of Atenism was as a henotheistic religion (devotion to a single god but
recognising the existence of others), but quickly developed into a monotheistic system where the
worship of all other Gods was banned, including the making and worship of idols, allowing only the
rayed sun disk to be displayed as a representation of God , for the Aten was the sole deity. Ordinary
people could not worship the Aten

Persuasive Essay On Training A Dog
In this day and age, you have a myriad options for training your dog available to you. In fact, the
difficulty is more often deciding which approach will be the most effective in training your particular
dog (and the method that will mesh the best with your particular situation). Now that you ve decided
that you re going to put the effort into training your dog and that the effort is worth the results you
know you ll get, it is time to decide what kind of training program you will use. Private Training This
type of training involves paying an hourly rate for one on one with a professional dog trainer at some
sort of training facility (or perhaps in your home for a higher price rate). This can be an extremely
effective method of training your dog. Because you are there with your dog, you are shown exactly
what movements and actions to take and your dog benefits from a professional hand. However, this
training is easily the most expensive, because professional trainers often charge 20, 40, or even up to
100 dollars an hour for their expertise. In addition, if you don t find a trainer who is knowledgeable
enough to deal with all of your dog s tendencies or if you simply don t click with your trainer, your
time and money can easily slip down the drain with very little observable results. Also, working
extensively with another trainer has the potential to confuse your dog as to who he/she should actually
respond to. When this happens, sometimes dogs who behave very well

I Had Never Even Heard Of Discourses
When I first came to RIT, I had never even heard of discourses before, let alone write an entire essay
on it in roughly a week. I suppose then that this could be considered a separate discourse itself. When
I was in high school, our teachers had us focusing on completing essays solely based on discovering
the author s purpose and using literary elements to support our thesis statements. There it did not
matter what our background was; we had to get through the work and were almost required to write it
to a perfect state, otherwise it would not be considered as college material. Upon arriving at college,
the classwork attitudes changed drastically. Here near perfectionism was not stressed and the
backgrounds of students were taken into consideration for classes. With so many discourses present it
a classroom, one would think that it would be difficult to accommodate everyone, but for me, it is a
discourse that is surprisingly easier to adjust to. Instead of having everyone adjust to one specific
discourse, everyone is permitted to their own discourses and contribute to the community. Similarly,
Williams explains how these discourses impact conflicts that could arise between students and
teachers in the academic classroom. In Home and Away: The tensions of community, literacy, and
identity, Bronwyn T. Williams argues to researchers and teachers so that they understand that because
everyone comes from different backgrounds. They all will not learn the same way and have

Qiansongzi Chen 1. How might the constructive nature of your perceptions play a role in what you
experience while you re walking at night through a graveyard said to be visited by spirits of the dead?
Constructive perception is in part something that our minds manufacture. Thus what we perceive is
determined, not only by what our eyes and ears and other senses detect, but also by what we know,
what we expect, what we believe, and what our physiological state is. Just because something seems
or feels real doesn t mean that it is real.

It s reasonable to accept personal experience as reliable evidence only if there s no reason to doubt its
reliability.
Personal experience alone generally cannot establish the effectiveness of a treatment beyond a
reasonable doubt.
6. What is confirmation bias? How does it affect our thinking?
Not only do we have a tendency to ignore and misinterpret evidence that conflicts with our own
views; we also have tendency to look for and recognize only evidence that confirms them. We tend to
look for confirming rather than disconfirming evidence, even though the latter can often be far more
revealing.
7. What is the availability error? How does it affect our thinking?
The availability error occurs when people base their judgments on evidence that s vivid or memorable
instead of reliable or trustworthy.
8. How do confirmation bias and the availability error lead to superstitious beliefs?
The availability error not only leads us to ignore the relevant evidence, it also leads us to ignore
relevant hypotheses. For any set of data, it is, in principle, possible to construct any number of
different hypotheses to account for the data. In practice, however, it is often difficult to come up with
many different hypotheses. As a result, we often end up choosing among only those hypotheses that
come to mind, that are available. In the case of unusual phenomena, the only

Politicians and government institutions have been around for over thousands of years. Such
organizations and public figures hold tremendous value to society and the individuals within those

The Social Security System Is The Most Successful...
The Social Security system is perhaps the most successful government social insurance program in the
nation s history; and began with the Social Security Act in 1935. Social Security is a needed federal
system that encourages income stability to millions of people across the United States. This is
accomplished by giving a stable flow of income to replenish lost wages that occur as a result of
disability, retirement, or death of a family member. There are about 59 million people in the U.S. that
receive Social Security. Most of them are the required 65 years of age or older. Sadly about half of the
59 million people rely solely on Social Security to pay their bills and everyday necessities.

When the average MPC out of Social Security increases, the larger impact on the economy it will have
due to that income being circulated through the economy. Typically, those who have lower income
will be more likely to spend more of their income than higher income households. Also, we see that
generally those who receive Social Security to in fact have a lower income, and that money is a large
portion of that income. This will then lead them to have a higher than average MPC. These lower
income households will likely spend the income from Social Security on the daily necessities, which
impacts a different segment of the economy rather than if it was spent on luxury or travel. Age is also
a factor in Social Security as well as how it affects an individual s MPC. Those who are older and
have reached the point in time where they more likely to spend their assets rather than save, usually
have a higher MPC than the public. This is where we can see that altering MPCs for the age of Social
Security beneficiaries, as well as their income, would have an increased effect on the economy
regarding Social Security payouts (Koenig, G. AARP., Myles, A. Mississippi State University, 2013)

context of total federal budget and the problem of deficits and debt. In 2010, he created the new

An Analysis Of Joyas Voladoras By Brian Doyle
Brian Doyle s short story Joyas Voladoras , named after a species of hummingbird, focuses on hearts.
The story first details how hummingbird hearts are quick and necessary for flight, but also that they
are so prone to damage and scarring. It then points out the size of the whale s heart, likening it to a
room. Doyle goes on to compare the hearts of different organisms, noting that all organisms are
always moving, swirling, changing in an eternal dance. Finally, he explains that even though we try to
harden our hearts against the pain we feel, to stop others from seeing inside of us, it is impossible,
because our hearts will open at even the smallest emotional instance. The author suggests that all
living beings have a sense of vulnerability to emotions and pain because of their hearts, uniting all
creatures despite their vast differences. First analyzing the hummingbird, Doyle writes, A
hummingbird s heart beats ten times a second. A hummingbird s heart is the size of a pencil eraser...
their hearts beating faster that we could clearly hear if we pressed our elephantine ears to their
infinitesimal chests, emphasizing the diminutive status as well as the rapid beat of the hummingbird s
heart. Writing Their hearts are stripped to the skin for the war against gravity and inertia, the mad
search for food, the insane idea of flight. The price... is a life closer to death; they suffer more heart
attacks and aneurysms and ruptures than any other living creature, Doyle shows

and necessary to the economy. Costly because of the funding provided by the government, recent

This is because air travel is not the only means of transportation. A person would like the speed and
convenience of travel by air, but other transportation alternatives exist. Air travel is both a luxury and
a necessity depending on the purpose of its use. For the purpose of vacationing or visiting friends and
family, air travel could be considered a luxury, but for the individual or company who relies on the
speed of air travel to complete business transactions, it would be considered a necessity. The supply
and demand of air travel is impacted by several factors. Air travel is a normal good. The demand for
air travel can diminish slightly because there are other means of safer transportation available. The
demand can also decrease if it becomes too unaffordable. Consumers with a higher income are able to
spend more time vacationing with the use of air transportation. Air travel can be substituted with other
forms of transportation if the income of the consumer decreases. The price elasticity of supply for the

The Influence Of The Renaissance
The Renaissance is an important part of history because it was seen as the start of the new modern era.
It is plausible to give this time such a title, since it portrayed a largely profound influence on the eras
to follow. Never before (or since) had there been such a coming together of art, science and
philosophy (The Renaissance why it changed the world). During the Renaissance, many new ideas
and inventions emerged. The popularity of inventing was a result of social needs among various
people in societies and other cultures through the development of the modern era (Salisbury). THESIS
The Renaissance explored many new ideas in a variety of topics such as; culture, politics, science, and
an improved type of intelligence in individuals (The Renaissance why it changed the world). The
spread of these ideas began in Europe in the 14th century (Salisbury). As the philosophies of the
Renaissance spread across Europe, they evolved to match local cultural thinking, while still remaining
true to its core meaning. These ideas brought diplomatic excursions, war, exploration, trade, and
marriage. It had a kind of snowball effect: each new intellectual advance paved the way for further
advancements. Even the art during this time was different. There was a larger focus on human
anatomy as a result of the influence of realism and the desire to capture the world as it was (The
Renaissance why it changed the world).
Sciences during this time were being developed under Copernicus and Galileo. Separately, these two
scientists had developed an understanding of Earth s place in the universe and proved that all planets
revolved around the sun (The Renaissance why it changed the world). Other scientific advances were
discovered through chemistry and mathematics through the development of gunpower and a new
financial trading system that made it simpler to navigate across the world (The Renaissance why it
changed the world).
These new advances were so successfully spread due to one specific invention, the printing press. In
1440, Gitenberg introduced this machine to the world, and for the first time ever books could be mass
produced. Renaissance philosophers were able to print mass copies of their discoveries and

Leaders Should Be A Successful Leader
Gary Yukl (2006) defines leadership as the process of influencing others to understand and agree
about what needs to be done and how to do it, and the process of facilitating individual and collective

needs to take control of its employees in a workplace. They should be a trusted person, and also be a

Primary Purpose Of Horses
The primary purpose of horses has definitely changed over decades. Around 4500 2500 BC, horses
and donkeys were primarily used for meat and milk, mounts, draft, and waging war. They were used
for traveling more than draft, since oxen were more effective with pulling and working in the fields.
Overtime, the need for horses decreased in many areas that it was originally used for. Oxen were
preferred in drafting, travelling by horseback was not as efficient anymore, they were poor meat
animals, and more difficult to herd than sheep or cattle. These are the reasons that horses are not
considered a commodity since they aren t grown for production or very useful to many. In the early
1700s, racing begins in Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland. People would bet on what horse
would win the race and it was, and still is, a competitive sport. During this time, horses were still
being used as draft animals and travel (for large plantations). Today, horses are primarily used for
recreational purposes like pleasure riding and racing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This cost included: feed, bedding, and manure management. For equine owners that breed horses for

years, a lot longer than many commodities. Since horses can t be used for food consumption, in the

Environment And Human Environment
Ecosystems is the dynamic complex of plant, animal and micro organism communities and their non
living environment that work together to form a functional unit and they are constantly changing due
to the fluctuating equilibrium from natural stress and human action which has had adversarial impacts
on ecosystems. This is evident in Minnamurra rainforest as human induced modifications and
environmental stresses had resulted in a vulnerable ecosystem. Furthermore, the removal of factors
that contribute to the vulnerability of an ecosystem is important as it affect the functioning of the
ecosystem as processes are accelerated, biodiversity is decreased which greatly affects humans.
Despite the negative effects caused by humans, they have discovered that ecosystems are susceptible
from harm caused by natural environmental factors or human impacts and realised the importance of
protecting and managing ecosystems therefore have implemented management strategies that are
supposed to prevent further detriment and as a consequence may induce resiliency.
Within Minnamurra rainforest all biophysical components rely on each other, for example changes to
the lithosphere (gaseous elements surrounding the earth), can cause stress to the flora and fauna within
the ecosystem and impact other abiotic factors. Human interaction has also caused many detrimental
impacts on the ecosystem through changes in lithospheric processes. For instance littering can bring
unwanted diseases that can affect

Impacts Of Coal Mining On The Environment
Coal mining can have seriously adverse environmental and related impacts, including interference
with groundwater quantity and quality, land subsidence, impacts on river flows and consequential
impact on other land uses, issues associated with mining wastes disposal, creation of geological
hazards . . . and potential ecological havoc (Bian et al., The Impact of Disposal and Treatment of Coal
Mining Wastes on Environment and Farmland 1). Coal, a commodity that the world depends on as a
vital economic player and energy resource, is extracted from the ground at a very costly price to the
environment. It is a major energy source that provides about 40% of the electricity that the world
consumes, and the consumption of coal has grown dramatically in recent years. Not only is coal a
major energy producer, but it is also a vital player in many countries economies, employing millions
across the world both directly and indirectly. Unfortunately, since coal is so important to the economy
and energy production, there is often little regard for the impacts that it has on the environment when
being extracted. In broad a generalization, coal mining techniques can be broken down into two
categories: surface mining and underground mining (the first involving techniques that stay above
ground and the latter using tunneling). Although environmental implications may vary slightly
between the two methods of coal extraction, there are a number of issues that are the result of both

Essay On Sacred Heart Vs Notre Dame Hockey Game
On Thursday, October 19, I attended the Sacred Heart versus Notre Dame hockey game. I have
previously attended hockey games at Compton Family Ice Arena both in and out of the student
section. However, this experience was slightly different than my previous ones since many students
were still away for fall break. The lack of students created a much different atmosphere especially
because at Notre Dame Hockey games the crowd tends to feed off the excitement of students. This
was obvious during certain songs such as Turn Down for What by DJ Snake and Lil Jon which elicits
strong responses from students but created little excitement minus the students. However, the crowd
did feed off the band. The crowd joined in during let s go Irish ... Show more content on

The first was the constant matchup graphic on the ribbon board as I found the animation kind of
distracting throughout the game. It would be helpful if the players on the ice were shown with their
statistics similar to the way it is done at both men s and women s basketball games, however, I also
understand that may be unrealistic in hockey since there are such quick line changes. Another possible
area of improvement is the intro video. It felt very generic compared to the ones that I m used to
seeing for Notre Dame sports. Unlike this year s intro videos at volleyball (which features team
expectations matched with player highlights) and football (which focuses on the excellence and
tradition of the program), the only words in the hockey intro video were what a hit and takes a shot
which seem like placeholders for something more. Since this team did reach the Frozen Four last year,
I expected the intro video to build on last year s excellence or how they succeeded despite having one
of the lowest seeds in the tournament. Another big aspect of in game entertainment at hockey is the
intermissions. At this game, the first intermission was filled by a youth hockey league playing. I really
enjoyed watching all the little kids play hockey. It involved the community and created positive
memories for the kids and their parents. The second intermission was used for the Slap Shot contest.
The Slap Shot contest is always fun and really engages the

Seamus Heaney s Blackberry-Picking and Death of a...
Seamus Heaney s Blackberry Picking and Death of a Naturalist Blackberry Picking gives a lucid
description of basically, picking blackberries. However it is really about hope and disappointment and
how things never quite live up to expectations. Blackberry picking becomes a metaphor for other
experiences such as the lack of optimism already being realised at an early age and the sense of
naivety looked upon from an adult analysing his childhood; Each year I hoped they d keep, knew they
would not , consequently a sense of regret. Death of A Naturalist is similar to Blackberry Picking in its
subject and structure. Here, too Heaney explains a change in his attitude to the natural world, in a ...

The tripling used suggests the lexis is one of confusion and passion; Sent us out with milk cans, pea
tins, jam pots . Likewise to Blackberry Picking, Death of A Naturalist also has a fairly simple
structure. In the first section, Heaney describes how the frogs would spawn in the lint hole, with a
digression into him collecting the spawn, and how his teacher encouraged his childish interest in the
process. The poem s title is amusingly ironic by a naturalist , we would normally mean someone with
expert scientific knowledge of living things and ecology. The young Heaney certainly was beginning
to know nature from direct observation but this incident cut short the possible scientific career before
it had ever begun. Also by death of a naturalist he does not wish to be a part of this life. The poet notes
the festering in the flax dam, but can cope with this familiar lexis of things rotting and spawn
hatching. Perhaps, as an inquisitive child he felt some pride in not being squeamish he thinks of the
bubbles form the process as gargling delicately . There is a nostalgic feeling as he continues to take his
childhood for granted. He has an almost scientific interest in knowing the proper names bullfrog and
frogspawn rather than the teacher s patronizing talk of mummy and daddy , this development is

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Saves Lives!
Automated External Defibrillators (AED) can be used by the untrained bystander, even if they have
never seen or used the machine before. This machine has both voice and visual instructions; therefore,
there is no reason to be intimidated. If you see a person suddenly collapse, pass out, or find someone
unconscious, having a general knowledge of how an AED machine functions, could save their life.
Before starting AED or any life saving measure, confirm that the person is unable to respond by
shouting, shaking, or pinching on top of their shoulders. If they are unresponsive immediately call or
have a bystander call 911, locate, and retrieve the AED machine. This machine must be used within
minutes of cardiac arrest onset to be effective; therefore, time is of the essence! Try to ascertain how
long the victim has been unconscious. Determine whether they are breathing, and if they have a pulse.
If the victim is breathing they will have a pulse; if they are not breathing or pulse is absent or
irregular, prepare to use the AED once it arrives at the scene. Roll the person on their back, and begin
doing 2 minutes of CPR (30 chest compressions). Once the AED machine is at the scene, make sure
the person isn t lying in or near water. If they are they will need to be moved to a dry area. It is
imperative to stay clear of any type of wetness when delivering shocks water will conduct electricity.
Turn on the AED power supply (some power up when you open the lid) and the device will

Leadership Is A Key Factor Essay
Leadership means the ability of a superior to influence the behaviour of subordinates and persuade
them to follow a particular course of action (Barnard, 1938)Effective leadership is a key factor in the
life and success of an organisation. There are many theories of leadership have been proposed like
Great man theory, trait theory , The managerial grid and Theory X and Theory Y as it s a part of
behaviour theory and Participative theory. There are many traits and skill of person which makes
normal person to leader. There are honesty, passion, respect, clarity, emotional stability etc. From them
we just now concentrate on these five qualities. There are,
1. Vision
Vision is more important than your leadership skill as without this skill team cannot go anywhere like
this skill is a heart of leadership (Small Business, 2012). Vision can have power in that leader can see
the future state in present and built a road to arrive at stated future goal (Kohut, 2013).With clear
vision leader can make plan to get involved in the activity to achieve the goal in defined time. There is
confidence in each action which has vision in behind (Richter). Finally it is like how organisation
looks like after some time or may be at which stage it will be in near future (Richter). It provides the
execution idea and also motivation.
2. Tolerant to stress
Each person has optimal level of stress that they actually enjoy. It makes work exiting and engaging.
But when we pass that level, stress becomes

Internet And The Internet Essay
Since the late 1960s and early 1970s, computer scientists have improved the accessibility of the
internet to all people. Technology has continuously improved through the introduction of computer
programming and coding and the use of cellular devices. Today, anyone can have access to internet
through the various forms of technology such as cell phones, computers, laptops, tablets, smart
watches, etc. Over the past 15 years, the internet has begun to incorporate itself into education by
allowing students to perform research more efficiently and have more interactive learning through the
use of educational websites, Smart Boards, etc. Accordingly, not only has the internet greatly impacted
education making it more interesting, but it has also impacted domestic lives. Parents now have an
easier way for their children to learn online at earlier ages through educational websites and online
learning programs, such as Starfall and ABCMouse. Children, from ages as young as three years old to
teenagers, have learned to operate the internet. Although children have developed this knowledge,
consequently, many have failed to learn the repercussions of their actions when inappropriately using
the internet. One of the most common repercussions one can often face is bullying through the
internet, entitled as cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is defined as verbally harming an individual or
group by anonymously or non anonymously posting harmful information through the internet. The

Common Stressors To International Students Essay
Nowadays, a great many of international students come to universities and clolleges in United States
(U.S). Growing in a different culture, they tend to have distinct problems compared with local
American students. College counselors often need to make some adjustment of the theories and
approaches they use to help international students. The article selected discussed the common
stressors and the coping strategies of international students, as well as the implication to college
counselors when working with international students. One of the common stressors to international
students is the adjustment difficulty. Immersed in a different culture and a new environment, it is
normal for international students to feel more stressful to adapt ... Show more content on

This tendency may be due to the heterogeneous nature of this special population. Some of the
international students may assume that college counselors may not understand their experiences and
feelings because of the differences, while some other international students are not familiar with the
professional counseling services and are reluctant to make use of them. Considering international
students less active participation in traditional counseling, colleges counselor could develop some
program to facilitate international students understanding of counseling services and reduce their
apprehension. In addition, college counselors should also make use of other non traditional counseling
approaches to help international students achieve a higher level of adjustment. For example, college
counselors can implement some psycho educational programs, mentoring programs, prevention
services and some support groups. The new student orientations are a good opportunities for
counselors to help international students get familiar with the helping services available on campus.
Counselors can also use this platform to explain some cultural and educational differences to
international students. In this way, they would be better prepared and not attribute themselves as the
sources of adjustment

Changing Native American Stereotypes in the Film, Dances with Wolves
The film Dances with Wolves, that was written by Michael Blake and directed by Kevin Costner,
helps to shift our perspective of Native Americans from one of stereotypical distaste, to one of support
and respect. According to an anonymous critic on www.eFilmcritic.com This is one of the few
westerns that devotes its time to looking at the plight of the American Indians (particularly the Sioux),
who were thought by some as even more subhuman than blacks during the 1800 s (and even during
parts of the 1900 s). It has always been thought that Native Americans of old were savage, non feeling,
unemotional, cold blooded killers. It is difficult for people to see them as ... Show more content on

He sees them as real people. As people that are just looking out for their families and don t want to
lose their heritage.
The Sioux are very perplexed by John. He comes to the army fort and he doesn t seem to be afraid of
them like everyone else is. They are not just going to go out and kill him. He didn t do anything to
harm or threaten their lifestyle, so why should they bother him. They don t know how to react to him.
Every time they make an appearance to him, he seems friendly and acts like he wants to get to know
them. Now here is a prime instance of how the Sioux do not fit into the typical view of Indians. The
typical view is that Native Americans don t care about other people and they just go around killing
everyone for the fun of it. This is totally opposite of that. In the film, the Sioux make numerous
appearances to John without being threatening at all. They just want to try and get to know him and
see what he is there for.
According to people from our my English Composition class there are a lot of scenes in Dances with
Wolves that illustrate the view of Indians as brutal savages. Some of these include: beating people on
the head with a mace, shooting of dog, wagon train remains, driver of the mule train killed, yanking
captive lady off the horse, and killing of peasant. These are just a few that can be interpreted as
savage. There were also views of when they came to think of the Indians as friends instead of

Scientific Management And Human Relations
Scientific Management and Human Relations are two different management approaches. In Scientific
Management, managers are responsible to think and workers do. Frederick Winslow Taylor (1856
1915) develops the Principles of Time and Motion Study, which leads to a conclusion that certain
people have a higher work efficiency compared to the others. In his means, cooperation is to do what
workers are told to do without asking questions or making suggestions. (as cited in Miller Form,
1924).
Human Relation Management was founded by Professor Elton Mayo (1880 1949). During the
industrial revolution in early 1920 s, Mayo initiated the Human Relation Theory of Management. A
psychologist, Henry C. Link (as cited in Miller Form, 1924, p. 657) relates that the ideal employment
method is receiving applicants from all kinds at one end, sort, interview, and record them, before
labelling them with the righteous job. Mayo introduced an experiment, the Hawthorne Studies, to look
into the impact of working environment on the productivity of workers.
Scientific Management, also known as Taylorism, is a theory of management which focuses on
workflows analysis. In the 20th century, a large number of immigrants which lacks the ability to
comprehend in English entered the workforce in the United States, whom Taylor concludes that
labourers are not qualified to plan the process of their jobs. In almost all the mechanic arts the science
which underlies each act of each workman is so

Resources and Communication in Project 330 Building and Sustaining Trust Case Study Abstract A
project manager s role in building or sustaining trust both within the team as well as between
themselves is to establish a strong relationship with his/her team members from the beginning of
building that team. Trust will play an important role in any team member s process because without

President and CEO of the Charles Schwab Corporation states that when you have your team
established then you have to foster trust among the team members so that you can collaboratively
move the organization forward. He says it s crucial to have confidence in each other and promote
openness, transparency and vulnerability (Role player, 2009). According to my text book Making the
Team: A Guide for Managers , it explains that in order to trust another person you must have respect
for another person because without both you have nothing. A few examples of knowing that you have
respect for your fellow team mates are when you speak of your team in a very positive tone, when you
feel as though decisions will not be made without the consideration of all members, when you know
that you feel comfortable in team presentations and when you know that every suggestion and idea
that is being made by each member is important and will add that special detailed touch to any team
project. According to Cronin and Weingart, teams high in both trust and respect should be desirable as
team members begin with the belief that their fellow team mates have something valuable to

  • 2. C-Sections Analysis I was very surprised to learn that elective C sections were actually something that was done. I had always just assumed that C sections were only done in emergency situations/complications, when babies were breach, or if the mother had had prior C sections. Women often choose an elective C section because they think it is more convenient than waiting around for labor to occur on its own. Other mothers have the idea that it will be less painful or prevent tearing, sexual dysfunction, or other complications that go along with vaginal deliveries. In the film, they started talking about how women in New York were having C sections and then tummy tucks immediately following. Many people do not consider a C section a major surgery, but it really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Separating Peace By Character In John Knowles A Separate... Separating Peace Character By Character A Separate Peace is a novel based around a group of high school boys in a private college preparatory school named Devon. Most of Devon s students want, have, or search for peace throughout their time at school. Upon return from summer break, each character searches for and discovers their peace. The words separate and peace represent a variety of ideas in Knowles novel, especially for Gene, Phineas, and Leper. I believe author John Knowles chose this title to imply individuals may possess their own unique peace. Each character in A Separate Peace naturally had their own peace and each chose either to embrace their inner peace or to fight against it. The character Leper was a quiet, odd man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That would be Gene s odd peace appearing to have the need of being top dog and having no rivalries, and being rid of anyone he could even have an inkling of jealousy against. In the text he says, ... I couldn t help envying him (Finny) that a little, which was perfectly normal. There was no harm in envying even your best friend a little. This quote was when Finny did not get in trouble at the Master s Tea for dressing against school code because he talked his way out of it. This was when the rivalry between Gene and what he believed was Finny, but was really only one sided (Finny had no thoughts pertaining to this) started. This is a very rare peace. I hardly ever see where someone finds peace by envying and wanting major personal competition with their close friends. The full picture of Gene s peace included being top dog, doing the best in school, aiming for valedictorian, and having no opposition from anyone else. Most inward peace hinges on upbeat feelings, but Gene s character is different. His self peace came only after he had gotten rid of the one person he was jealous of and was completely rid of any anger or hatred. It is stated in the novel, My fury was gone, I felt it gone, dried up at the source, withered and lifeless. Phineas had absorbed it and taken it with him, and I was rid of it ... • 4. Seizing the Day in Robert Herrick’s poem, “To the... To what extent may an argument be framed as believable or serious? Persuasion on seizing the day is a common theme in Robert Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time and Andrew Marvel s To His Coy Mistress . The arguments within the poems can seem unrealistic, a little hyperbolic, with an underlying intent to acquire a woman to sleep with them. The concrete position of all the arguments within the two poems seems to be, getting a woman to sleep with them. The two poets posses similarities between the two pieces of poetry, however argue the topics in different ways. Beauty is not forever lasting, coyness put aside, while pleasure embraced, and time is of the essence; are all points made to intrigue women to be with them. To focus on those points a little: The beauty of a woman is compared to aspects of nature. Herrick s poem only looks at the physical qualities of a woman, unlike Marvel s, which references personality along with physical traits. Sexual passion embraced, and coyness set aside? The poets, both urge women to act upon sexual urges while they stay youthful, but if a woman was told they are not going to be desired when older, would they actually want to be with someone who tells them that? Time is moving quickly and its made known within the poems. Herrick is an advocate to relate everything to physical aspects, so of course he says a woman s beauty diminishes quickly. Marvel does not relate beauty and time together, instead he would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Examples of “Good” Strategic Management EXAMPLES OF GOOD STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT Disney In 1984, Disney s stock price had been flat for a decade. Earnings per share were only $0.06. Disney had profits that year of $242 million. By this point in time Disney had become primarily a theme park company. Seventy seven percent of its profits came from theme park operations that year. Twenty two percent of profits came from consumer products (licensing Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, etc.). Only one percent of profits came from filmed entertainment in 1984. Indeed, Disney had become a different company from what Walt Disney and his brother Roy O. Disney left behind. In 1971 when Roy O. Disney died (he became CEO when Walt died in 1966), 50% of the company s profits came from filmed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He knew the liquid soap would be easy to manufacture and that he could buy the pumps from one or both of the two existing pump manufacturers. Procter amp; Gamble, and probably others, would have quickly imitated his product and most likely driven him out of business. These other manufacturers were many times larger than Minnetonka. However, Taylor engaged in a form of internal analysis by recognizing that even though these larger companies had a resource advantage when it came to manufacturing and marketing the liquid soap, they had no advantage when it came to the pump bottles. He recognized that if he bought all the pump bottle production of the two manufacturers he would have an advantage over firms much larger than Minnetonka. Taylor bought all the pumps the two manufacturers could produce in a year. He paid more for these orders of pumps than Minnetonka was worth at the time. The strategy worked. He had a 12 18 month lead over his much larger competitors in which he was able to establish the Softsoap brand and capture market share. • 6. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech By Florence Kelley In the early 1900 s the woman suffrage movement about took america captive. But only because these women felt like they were the prisoners. During this time many women boldly spoke out about their inability to vote, a right that is meant for everyone. Countless protests, speeches, and rallies eventually lead to women gaining this right. But one of them stood out from the rest. Florence Kelley wasn t as pressing as other activists, yet she was just as effective. In one of her most famous speeches she talks about child labor law faults, and that if women are not allowed to vote then the laws will likely never change. In this enlightening piece, Kelley focuses on convincing the audience to fight for better child labor laws by using imagery to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The audience is already feeling upset and angry about the conditions that these children are thrust into, but Kelley begins to create a different emotion in them. Guilt. Kelley states, Tonight while we sleep, several thousand little girls will be working in textile mills... while we sleep little white girls will be working... And they will do so tonight, while we sleep. The repetition creates a strong sense of guilt. She is saying that while we sleep these children are working in unfair conditions for unfair wages and we do nothing about it, well nothing except sleep. With this weighing on their consciences, the audience is much more likely to take action against this evil. But the guilt trip doesn t end there. She goes on to say, The children make our shoes... our stockings. Our knitted underwear... and our cotton underwear. This again puts some of the blame on audience. By repeating the word out Kelley is essentially pointing out that even though the audience may not be directly responsible, the fact that these kids work is almost a sin of omission. Without people to talk for them, how will they ever escape this vicious cycle of unfair work and conditions? This is the exact thought that Kelley is trying to invoke by her use of repetition. She wants her audience to feel bad about these terrible things being done, which will then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He has scored many popular movies and has many other notable works. Involved in major works including Jaws, ET, Indiana Jones, the Harry Potter Series, and his critically acclaimed work in the Star Wars saga, Williams is undoubtedly one of the best in the business. Williams spent his time gigging around New York and studying profusely. By becoming more familiar with these composers, Williams grasped a better concept of leitmotif by which helped him to pursue a career in film scoring. Williams moved back to Los Angeles and began working immediately. He composed, scored, and was featured performing in several films throughout the seventies. This granted him a plethora of experience and recognition. It wasn t until 1974 that he was asked by director Steven Spielberg to write the score for his debut film, Sugarland Express. This was only the beginning of their partnership, and would work on several films through out the seventies this including Jaws, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Steven Spielberg recommended Williams to an ambitious George Lucas who needed a score for his one of a kind, Star Wars. Explain the rules of law The doctrine of intention is an undertaking by both sides of an agreement to be legally bound either by an informal agreement such as verbal intention to purchase or act, or a written document stating intention to purchase or act, which could be in the form of a letter or a written statement as compared to a formal agreement where a deed is prepared stating the intention of the contract which is signed and witnessed by independent third parties and, although not necessary, sealed with a company or personal seal. In bilateral contracts when two parties promise to provide consideration to each other the contract becomes valid immediately the parties exchange promises as the promise to each other is deemed sufficient consideration. The intention of both Jamie and Gina to act is made clear when Gina calls for tenders to build accommodation facilities at her mine site and Jamie submits a tender, this in itself is not sufficient enough to form a contract as no promises of exchange have been agreed to or accepted. At this point Jamie has made an offer to Gina indicating his intention in exchange for a consideration of money and Gina has indicated her intention, in exchange for goods and services. Gina decides to accept Jamie s tender and in doing so sends a formal document in the form of a letter to Jamie, stating the terms and conditions of her acceptance. It is at this point that Gina has accepted Jamie s tender and the terms of intention and consideration to form a contract have been met by Gina and now relies on Jamie being able to meet the terms of the contract and giving a formal reply to Gina to complete the contract. • 9. Secondhand Smoke Is Unhealthy For Everyone, Especially For... Secondhand smoke is unhealthy for everyone, especially for young children. Children are more susceptible to suffer the detrimental health effects of secondhand smoke because they breathe in more air than adults due to their size and weight. In addition, children are constantly growing and developing. During their development stage, children are more sensitive to the consequences of secondhand smoke, which is ultimately dangerous to their immune and respiratory systems. Furthermore, secondhand smoke is significantly harmful to children with asthma, which is a chronic health condition whose symptoms include coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. Children, both with and without asthma, are powerless to protect themselves from the dangers of secondhand smoke, so we the adults have to protect them. Secondhand smoke, also referred to as environmental tobacco smoke, primarily comes from cigars and cigarettes The effects of breathing in secondhand smoke is equivalent to smoking a cigarette. In addition, the chemicals released by cigarettes and cigars contain many poisons, such as benzene, butane, ammonia, toluene, and hydrogen cyanide (American Lung Association). These poisons from secondhand smoking are prevalent in children s surroundings, causing them to breathe these toxins in homes, day cares, and cars. Many African Americans find that their dream differs from the traditional American dream in that there is no immediate success. In Toni Morrison s Song of Solomon, Milkman was literate and had many options for further education, if so desired. Milkman was apathetic toward education and work. Not only must he work to discover his family history, but he must do so while in danger of losing his life. He chooses to risk his life and continue his search for the gold in Shalimar, a search that leads him to his family history. An important principle is introduced that being that the risk adjusted total rate of return must equal the risk free rate. This fundamental principle provides a stepping stone from which a direct estimate of the liability beta becomes possible within the total return framework. Liability betas are shown in The relationship to the total return to shareholders and the linkage with equity betas demonstrated. sensitivity of the underwriting profit margin to variations in loss payout, investment yield, market risk premium and leverage is demonstrated and discussed. • 35. An Analysis Of Joyas Voladoras By Brian Doyle Brian Doyle s short story Joyas Voladoras , named after a species of hummingbird, focuses on hearts. The story first details how hummingbird hearts are quick and necessary for flight, but also that they are so prone to damage and scarring. It then points out the size of the whale s heart, likening it to a room. Doyle goes on to compare the hearts of different organisms, noting that all organisms are always moving, swirling, changing in an eternal dance. Finally, he explains that even though we try to harden our hearts against the pain we feel, to stop others from seeing inside of us, it is impossible, because our hearts will open at even the smallest emotional instance. The author suggests that all living beings have a sense of vulnerability to emotions and pain because of their hearts, uniting all creatures despite their vast differences. First analyzing the hummingbird, Doyle writes, A hummingbird s heart beats ten times a second. A hummingbird s heart is the size of a pencil eraser... their hearts beating faster that we could clearly hear if we pressed our elephantine ears to their infinitesimal chests, emphasizing the diminutive status as well as the rapid beat of the hummingbird s heart. Writing Their hearts are stripped to the skin for the war against gravity and inertia, the mad search for food, the insane idea of flight. The price... is a life closer to death; they suffer more heart attacks and aneurysms and ruptures than any other living creature, Doyle shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Economic Analysis of the Airline Industry ec Economic Analysis of the Airline Industry Tisha Smith Axia College of UOP ECO 305 Economic Theory George Harris March 18, 2007 Economic Analysis of the Airline Industry Introduction The airline industry is one that is both costly and necessary to the economy. Costly because of the funding provided by the government, recent layoffs; which has a hand in rising inflation, dealing with negative externalities and high security risks; necessary because the ease and speed of air travel is needed to keep countries productive and competitive. This is because air travel is not the only means of transportation. A person would like the speed and convenience of travel by air, but other transportation alternatives exist. Air travel is both a luxury and a necessity depending on the purpose of its use. For the purpose of vacationing or visiting friends and family, air travel could be considered a luxury, but for the individual or company who relies on the speed of air travel to complete business transactions, it would be considered a necessity. The supply and demand of air travel is impacted by several factors. Air travel is a normal good. The demand for air travel can diminish slightly because there are other means of safer transportation available. The demand can also decrease if it becomes too unaffordable. Consumers with a higher income are able to spend more time vacationing with the use of air transportation. Air travel can be substituted with other forms of transportation if the income of the consumer decreases. The price elasticity of supply for the Airline industry however, is inelastic because even with the shifts in demand for air travel, which were caused by events such as the 9/11 attacks and high gasoline prices, the rates and fares for air travel are able to be set without being effected by those events. • 38. The Influence Of The Renaissance The Renaissance is an important part of history because it was seen as the start of the new modern era. It is plausible to give this time such a title, since it portrayed a largely profound influence on the eras to follow. Never before (or since) had there been such a coming together of art, science and philosophy (The Renaissance why it changed the world). During the Renaissance, many new ideas and inventions emerged. The popularity of inventing was a result of social needs among various people in societies and other cultures through the development of the modern era (Salisbury). THESIS The Renaissance explored many new ideas in a variety of topics such as; culture, politics, science, and an improved type of intelligence in individuals (The Renaissance why it changed the world). The spread of these ideas began in Europe in the 14th century (Salisbury). As the philosophies of the Renaissance spread across Europe, they evolved to match local cultural thinking, while still remaining true to its core meaning. These ideas brought diplomatic excursions, war, exploration, trade, and marriage. It had a kind of snowball effect: each new intellectual advance paved the way for further advancements. Even the art during this time was different. There was a larger focus on human anatomy as a result of the influence of realism and the desire to capture the world as it was (The Renaissance why it changed the world). Sciences during this time were being developed under Copernicus and Galileo. Separately, these two scientists had developed an understanding of Earth s place in the universe and proved that all planets revolved around the sun (The Renaissance why it changed the world). Other scientific advances were discovered through chemistry and mathematics through the development of gunpower and a new financial trading system that made it simpler to navigate across the world (The Renaissance why it changed the world). These new advances were so successfully spread due to one specific invention, the printing press. In 1440, Gitenberg introduced this machine to the world, and for the first time ever books could be mass produced. Renaissance philosophers were able to print mass copies of their discoveries and ... Around 4500 2500 BC, horses and donkeys were primarily used for meat and milk, mounts, draft, and waging war. They were used for traveling more than draft, since oxen were more effective with pulling and working in the fields. Overtime, the need for horses decreased in many areas that it was originally used for. Oxen were preferred in drafting, travelling by horseback was not as efficient anymore, they were poor meat animals, and more difficult to herd than sheep or cattle. These are the reasons that horses are not considered a commodity since they aren t grown for production or very useful to many. In the early 1700s, racing begins in Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland. People would bet on what horse would win the race and it was, and still is, a competitive sport. Environment And Human Environment Ecosystems is the dynamic complex of plant, animal and micro organism communities and their non living environment that work together to form a functional unit and they are constantly changing due to the fluctuating equilibrium from natural stress and human action which has had adversarial impacts on ecosystems. Furthermore, the removal of factors that contribute to the vulnerability of an ecosystem is important as it affect the functioning of the ecosystem as processes are accelerated, biodiversity is decreased which greatly affects humans. Coal, a commodity that the world depends on as a vital economic player and energy resource, is extracted from the ground at a very costly price to the environment. It is a major energy source that provides about 40% of the electricity that the world consumes, and the consumption of coal has grown dramatically in recent years. Not only is coal a major energy producer, but it is also a vital player in many countries economies, employing millions across the world both directly and indirectly. Unfortunately, since coal is so important to the economy and energy production, there is often little regard for the impacts that it has on the environment when being extracted. The lack of students created a much different atmosphere especially because at Notre Dame Hockey games the crowd tends to feed off the excitement of students. It would be helpful if the players on the ice were shown with their statistics similar to the way it is done at both men s and women s basketball games, however, I also understand that may be unrealistic in hockey since there are such quick line changes. Another possible area of improvement is the intro video. It felt very generic compared to the ones that I m used to seeing for Notre Dame sports. Unlike this year s intro videos at volleyball (which features team expectations matched with player highlights) and football (which focuses on the excellence and tradition of the program), the only words in the hockey intro video were what a hit and takes a shot which seem like placeholders for something more. Since this team did reach the Frozen Four last year, I expected the intro video to build on last year s excellence or how they succeeded despite having one of the lowest seeds in the tournament. Another big aspect of in game entertainment at hockey is the intermissions. At this game, the first intermission was filled by a youth hockey league playing. In Scientific Management, managers are responsible to think and workers do. In his means, cooperation is to do what workers are told to do without asking questions or making suggestions. (as cited in Miller Form, 1924). Human Relation Management was founded by Professor Elton Mayo (1880 1949). During the industrial revolution in early 1920 s, Mayo initiated the Human Relation Theory of Management. A psychologist, Henry C. Link (as cited in Miller Form, 1924, p. 657) relates that the ideal employment method is receiving applicants from all kinds at one end, sort, interview, and record them, before labelling them with the righteous job. Mayo introduced an experiment, the Hawthorne Studies, to look into the impact of working environment on the productivity of workers.
