Mean Girls and Developmental Psychology
Introduction
The film that I chose to do was the movie Mean Girls. This movie is filled with many funny characters
and an amusing plot, but even though this movie has earned the crown of being the official chick flick
it has a lot of psychological concepts that people really do not realize. However, when you really think
about it, the movie has a lot to relate with when it comes to teenagers going into a new school because
every teen that enters high school goes though the emotional and social stages of development. In this
paper we will be looking at parts of the movie that focus on Cady and her stages of development as
she goes through high school and deals with the Plastics, and then the Plastics themselves as well as
certain aspects and things that revolve around them throughout the movie.
Mean Girls is about a young teen girl Cady Heron who just moved from Africa to attend a public high
school in America for the first time. This is very different for Cady because the high school setting in
America will be extremely different from how it was when she was living in Africa. It s not easy for
her because she is not used to the American customs or norms . Within the first couple of days of
school she becomes really good friends with two people named Janis and Damien. In the school there
are many many cliques, and Janis

Oppression In Miss Julie, By August Strindberg
Oppression. Criticism. Subjection. Life during the nineteenth century contained harsh gender roles and
ironhanded social hierarchies. Men and women were polar opposites of each other and numerous
double standards existed. Each social class kept to themselves and fraternizing between the upper
class and lower class resulted in social pariahs. However, towards the end of the nineteenth century
high class women began to demand equal treatment. To lower class men, this demand proved
offensive and received heavy opposition. These lower class men, such as August Strindberg , despised
women who sought power and termed them degenerate women. In Strindberg s play, Miss Julie, he
illustrates the danger of attempting to defy gender and social roles ... Show more content on

The column she climbs symbolizes culture and how her birth predetermined her social stature. Julie
knows that due to the height of this column, if she falls she can never regain her place in the upper
class. Nonetheless, she still wishes to fall from her high social position despite the dire consequences
that will ensue. Strindberg includes Julie s dream because it is crucial to understanding her own
demise and foreshadows her fate in the play. He employs this symbol in order to demonstrate that
Julie s resistance to social order ultimately causes her own death. Additionally, throughout the play
Jean and Julie both fear the bell that hangs in the kitchen. Whenever the count returns from a trip he
rings the bell, reinforcing the strict social order. To Jean and Julie the bell represents the oppression of
the classes and the strict role they both must play in society. At the end of the play after Julie had sex
with Jean, Julie frantically tries to decide if she should run away or stay. The guilt and shame of her
actions consume her and the societal implications of her actions prove too much for her to handle.
After much debate between Julie and Jean about her predicament, Jean yells, To be scared of a bell!
Yes, but it isn t only the bell there is somebody behind it... Two quick rings from the bell...It s horrid!
But there s no other end to it! Go [Miss Julie]! (36). Ultimately, the count and the significance of his
presence were too hard for Julie to endure, so she commits suicide. The bell serves as a reminder for
Julie, its symbolism and magnitude emphasize Julie s betrayal and her fall. Even though Julie desired
to join the lower class, the implications of her actions grew too great to cope with. Strindberg uses the
bell as a cautionary symbol to demonstrate that we cannot escape from society. The bell is ever present
throughout the story symbolizing that

Investigation Of A Coil Gun
Abstract: The task of this assignment is to evaluate the of a coil gun using the variables of number of
rapes of coil and the distance the projectile will travel. Then will evaluate and investigate the physics
behind the gun. Aim: The purpose of this investigation the efficiency of a coil gun using the
relationship between the number of coils and the distance the projectile travelled. Hypothesis: In this
investigation there is a relationship between the number of coils and the distance the projectile
travelled. Therefore the more coils the further the projectiles will travel (cm). Prediction: As more
coils are wrapped around the gun, the distance of the projectile will increase. Literature Review: Coil
gun A coilgun (aka gun Gauss, Gauss Gauss cannon or rifle) is a type of gun that uses a series of
electromagnets for magnetically accelerate a projectile at high speed. The name Gauss gun comes
from Carl Friedrich Gauss, who formulated the mathematical proofs of the electromagnetic effect used
by Gauss cannons. The Gauss cannons are often called wrongly railguns from various sources, and
while they are similar in general concept (ie, a magnetic weapon), differ in operation, since a railgun
accelerates the missiles on two rails parallel conductors. The Gauss cannons are in substance identical
to the projector mass, albeit on a smaller scale. Kristian Birkeland is commonly considered the
inventor of the electromagnetic cannon Gauss, by which he obtained a patent

Operations Management Definition
Introduction In today s fast paced ever changing business world, organizations must deal with many
diverse issues. These issues range from maintaining their competitive edge in a fierce marketplace to
social, ethical and concerns regarding the health and well being of their employees. The advent of new
technologies has created organizational efficiencies however; it is a well known fact that healthcare
has lagged behind other industries with regard to automation. Healthcare is being asked to provide
high quality care with increased efficiency yet the patient population believes they are not receiving
quality care. McCleave (1996) states that health care managers should look to manufacturing ... Show

This can be accomplished by instituting processes to get patients in to see the respective provider in a
timely manner, and addressing all of the issues in an individual encounter. McCleave (1996)
documents other methods to increase productivity and quality in the healthcare setting. One would be
to create an environment where the physician does only what he needs to do. This means that
physicians need to shed duties that can be handled efficiently and in a cost effective manner by
ancillary personnel, registered nurses or physician s assistants. Office efficiency is another area where
improvements are possible. Processes should be evaluated as they relate to patient encounters and non
value adding steps should be eliminated. When one considers all the aforementioned possibilities for
increasing efficiency it is very likely healthcare will not only realize cost savings but will be able to
provide quality healthcare to the patient population thereby reducing the possibility of patients
returning to the office on an emergent basis.
Conclusion
Operations management is as stated by Henderson is an evolutionary position that is needed for
healthcare to prosper. Healthcare it is in a state of enormous change and is faced with economic,
regulatory, technological and consumer pressures that must be addressed in order for the industry to
fulfill its mission. Operations management will play an integral role in healthcare

College At Florida Atlantic University
May had come around at long last, and my first two semesters of college at Florida Atlantic University
were over. Not only had I survived my freshman year, I also thrived, passing eight of my nine
combined courses with A s and getting an A minus in the other one. If casinos all over the country
made it achievable for people to place bets on the odds of any given student in any given college
emerging successful at the end of any given semester, chances are I would ve been a far greater
underdog to come out smelling like roses than Neon Leon was to beat the recently departed
Muhammad Ali in February 1978. But the same way Leon shocked Ali I defied my own hopes and

So we stayed in Nice for two weeks, joined a beach club on the Mediterranean for eleven dollars each,
and had a ball, Grandpa said, afterwards taking a deep breath with his mouth open and his eyes closed.
We were just about ready to run out of money when we decided to go to a casino in Monaco, which
was right next to Nice you could walk there. We took whatever cash we had and put it on the roulette
wheel on the black. I m nowhere near an expert when it comes to casino games, I replied while
scratching my right elbow with my left hand. But, I used to play simulated roulette years ago on my
old PC, and if my facts aren t off it s fifty fifty if you bet red or black on a roulette wheel. It doesn t
appear to me as though it d make one lick of difference what color someone chose as far as the odds.
Any reason you chose black? No particular reason, Grandpa said while pushing his hair backwards
with his right hand and scratching the top of it with the left. You re right the color makes no
difference. There are eighteen red and eighteen black numbers in a game of roulette, which means an
eighteen in thirty seven chance for a wheel with no double zero and a nine in nineteen chance for one
with two greens. You get paid one to one for your nine to ten in Las Vegas casinos and those in other
states, so you lose the difference on average. Grandpa went on to explain how, if you bet red or black
on a roulette wheel,

deduction? What dividends qualify for this deduction?
The purpose of dividends received deduction is to prevent triple taxation of earnings. The Dividend
Received Reduction (DRD) is the concept where a corporation receiving a dividend from another
corporation does not have to pay taxes on that dividend they received.
Code Sec243 of the IRS provide relief to domestic corporations, when paying dividends to its

Define and differentiate a spin off, split off, and split up.
Split up: An arrangement whereby a parent corporation transfers all of its assets to two or more
corporations and then winds up its affairs. When a split up occurs, the shareholders of the parent
corporation surrender the total amount of their stock in exchange for stock in the transferee
corporation.
Split Off: The process whereby a parent corporation organizes a subsidiary corporation to which it
transfers part of its assets in exchange for all of the subsidiary s capital stock, which is subsequently
transferred to the shareholders of the parent corporation in exchange for a portion of their parent stock.
A split off differs from a spin off in that the shareholders in a split off must relinquish their shares of
stock in the parent corporation in order to receive shares of the subsidiary corporation whereas the
shareholders in a spin off need not do so.
Spin Off: The situation that arises when a parent corporation

The Role of Women in the Ibo Culture Essay
The Role of Women in the Ibo Culture The culture in which Things Fall Apart is centered around is
one where patriarchal testosterone is supreme and oppresses all females into a nothingness. They are
to be seen and not heard, farming, caring for animals, raising children, carrying foo foo, pots of water,
and kola. The role of women in the Ibo culture was mostly domestic. The men saw them as material
possessions and thought of them as a source of children and as cooks. As a man made his way in life
by farming yams, he needed a strong workforce. This workforce included his wives and children. A
man would have many wives. The more wives and children a man had, the more honor and respect he
received.

When Okonkwo was near his daughter Ezinma, he would think to himself, She should have been a

woman was to be married, the family of her suitor would come and inspect her to be sure she was
beautiful and ripe enough to be a part of their family. A woman did not have any value other than her
beauty and her abilities to cook and bear children. In a conversation between Okonkwo and his friend
Obierika, they spoke of two other villages where their
customs are all upside down and titled men climb trees and pound foo foo for their wives (73). They
spoke of other tribes where the children belong to the wives and their families. You might as well say
that the woman lies on top of the man when they are making the children.
This remark makes it seem that there is no love making in this culture, but only child making, in
which the woman has no real role. In a description of a ceremony, It was clear from the way the crowd
stood or sat that the ceremony was for men. There were many women, but they looked on from the
fringe like outsiders (87). The women were not included in discussions, councils, nor were they made

The Massacre At El Mozote
In the early days of mid December in 1981, the Salvadoran military slaughtered hundreds of men,
women, and children who they believed were accessories to the left wing guerrilla group that was
waging war against the government. Mark Danner, in the book The Massacre at El Mozote, addresses
the bloodbath through the stories of survivors and guerrilla members that witnessed it as well as
questioning government officials from both the El Salvadoran and the United States government.
During that time period, there were numerous insurgencies that were challenging the power of the
state in Latin America through propaganda and violent methods. The governments gave their

The Atlacatl was an elite armed force that specialized in counter insurgency combat and was training
by the United States military. It received a mission known as Operacíon Rescate, which translates into
Operation Rescue, that had a single goal of removing guerrilla fighters and its sympathizers in the area
surrounding El Mozote. The fighters in this force accused the villagers of supporting FMLN and
supplying them with food, arms, and people. This accusation eventually escalated to the torturing of
certain members of the community and then the barbaric killing of close to a thousand people. The
Atlacatl used various methods to murder and terrorize the people of El Mozote that included
beheading, shooting, stabbing, and hanging. The armed forces separated the women and raped girls as
young as 10 years old as well as gather the children into a room and slaughter them by stabbing or
shooting them. At the end of the El Mozote Massacre, the families that were able to escape or that
were out of town came back to a village full of carnage and their homes destroyed. The total death
count is still debated until this day but it is estimated that the Salvadoran military murdered around a
thousand people at El Mozote. This book illustrates several key issues and social problems that Latin
American politics faced and continue to struggle with to this day. The matter of insurgent movements

National Anthem Essay
The controversial issue of protesting the National Anthem has plagued the United States since the year
of 2016. Disputes have occurred over whether or not the athletes should be able to display their
opinion to the public even if the demonstration offends our armed forces. Many say the protests are
useless because the kneeling is diverting the public eye from the original issue; the anti protest
collection also agrees that the kneeling is not unconstitutional, and it should be restricted by the
owners of the teams. Though all of the arguments can be assumed to be correct, one might could argue
that these athletes were given this high platform so that they could be allowed to use their freedom of
speech to express their views about inequality, injustice, police brutality, etc. and to show equality
through the unification of their teams. This act of defiance against the National Anthem was said to be
disrespectful to the men and women that have protected this country. Many war veterans agree with
this because they believe that the athletes are dishonoring the symbol that gave each of us our
freedoms. I stand for our flag and anthem, and I kneel for our fallen. That s what patriots do, (Griggs).
The veterans of our country are not the only ones expressing their beliefs on the subject; a publication
by the Wall Street Journal states that before the National Anthem in Foxborough, Massachusetts, fans
held a sign reading Real Patriots Stand Up For Their Country ( Anthem

The Roles Of Women In The American Civil War
The American Civil War was a four year long war which consisted of the Union (with states such as
Maine, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, and others) and the Confederacy (which consisted of
states such as Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, and others). This war lasted between
the twelfth of April, 1861 and the ninth of May, 1865. Estimated death count throughout the entirety
of the war is estimated between sixty five thousand and eighty five thousand. That s nearing on almost
a million American lives, with brothers and fathers fighting one another in the brutal and heart
wrenching war. Many states in the north, the Union states, had completely industrialized themselves,

shows that maybe women didn t ever have a specific role in the American Civil War. Sure, they were
supposed to be the mothers, the sisters, the wives, and yet so many women went beyond what others
wanted them to be. They became fighters. They became soldiers. They became nurses. They became

Lynching, Frederic Douglas and Black Women in Society
Can t believe it s already over. I know I didn t say much but I can honestly say I m grateful and I really
enjoyed this class. I was embarrassed of the little I knew about black history, my history and just the
event that s going on today. I ve meet some of the coolest, passionate, smartest and hands down
funniest group of people I ve ever meet. This class made me hungry to learn, to step my game up, to
not only prove that I can do but to myself as well. I ve learned about so many events and people in this
class, but these five subjects were so far my favorites.
Lynching
Lynching, I would have to said was one of the most interesting and disturbing topics we have talked
about. The word lynching came from the name Charles Lynch who was an owner of land in Virginia in
1790. Charles would hold illegal trials of people who would steal, cheat, basically break the rules in
his front yard. Charles would hang the victims and hang and tied them to a tree in front of his home.
Lynching is unlike from any other murders because it s committed outside the boundaries by a mob of
white people wanting to achieve against blacks for whatever blacks did which was nothing. In the19th
century, lynching frequently enjoyed the approval of the public. Lynching had become an event, where
people from different towns would come and watch an African Americans get lynched. It is a practice
that was committed, for white people to show there were more superior to African Americans. In the
late,

History of Cloning Essay
History of Cloning
Although the word itself has only been around for only four decades, the idea of creating an organism
identical to another has been around for centuries. Even nature has utilized this process. The actual
process of artificially cloning has been around since before 1900s, even though it is heard of more
often in the modern world. Cloning began in 1894 with the first clone of an organism. Hans Dreisch
was able to clone a sea urchin, and his research led to Hans Spemann s multiple attempts and
successes of cloning throughout his science years. As technology advanced, Robert Briggs and
Thomas King used Spemann s results to create the process of nuclear transfer used in modern cloning
techniques. After many debates over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
4). This experiment and others disproved Wilhelm Roux and August Weismann s theory that stated:
The egg and sperm contribute chromosomes equally to the zygote. The chromosomes are carriers of
the hereditary potentials, and the germ cells (gametes) of the embryo are the only ones to carry the
complete set of hereditary potentials (nuclear determinants), whereas each somatic (body) cell type
contains only part of these potentials required for the specific cell type (Berardino 2).
By separating the cells of a single developing embryo to create two organisms, Dreisch proved that the
somatic cell contains all hereditary information.
The next successful cloning experiment was conducted in 1902 by German Dr. Hans Spemann on
salamander embryos, producing twins. Spemann split the embryo using a strand of hair from his
newborn son, and the two resulting cells grew into normal adult salamanders. These salamanders were
artificially created identical twins. He repeated his experiments many times, and created mutant
creatures. He concluded that in order to create a normal organism, the cloning process must be
completed before what he called determination, or the stage in growth where cells specialize into
different cells for different parts of the body. This stage is completed in the early growth of an embryo
(Cheng n.p.). However, cloning in mammals remained impossible, due to the fact that mammal eggs
are invisible to the naked eye, while amphibian

Themes Of Death Of The Moth
Throughout The Death of the Moth, the main theme is derived from the observation and recognition.
By observing the moth s little movement to revive, Woolf recognizes the connection between life and
death, and the receptive attitude towards the death. As a human, we usually do not really care or learn
a lesson from a moth s behavior. We usually think a moth is a little, insignificant creature. However, as
if our thoughts are wrong, Woolf highly values the moth s endless tries to avoid the death and through
that, she conveys the moral of the essay. He flew vigorously to one corner of his compartment, and,
after waiting there for a second, few across to the other (Woolf, 125). This sentence describes how the
moth flies around the window with his trivial movement. That trivial movement becomes a base of
Woolf s realization of the value of the death. Woolf discusses her observation of moth s movements
and the death in details, using many adjectives that illustrate moth s eternal tries. In that sense, a
question is raised: Why the writer describes her observations of the moth in details, rather writes about
the moral and purpose more in focus? The above question can be answered by the purpose of this
essay. As the story of the moth progresses in a consecutive order, Woolf s attitude towards the moth
also changes. There was something marvelous as well as pathetic about him (Woolf, 126). This
sentence clearly indicates the change of her attitude towards the moth. At the

Give up the Fight. The story s themes are similar because both Susan B Anthony and Ava are
persevering through what seems like torture in their lives. Even though the theme is the same, the
stories, both are different because Susan B Anthony is persevering through a much more difficult and
much bigger problem than Ava. For example, Susan B Anthony has a more severe problem such as
being sentenced to jail while in Don t Give Up the Fight, Ava is dealing with not being appreciated at
track. In the Passage, Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote, perseverance is shown throughout the passage
because of how she was fingering out her way to get around tough

Cerebrum Essay
The Cerebrum
To begin with, the human brain is the most complex part of the human body. It has control to every
organ because of a primary functional unit which is the neurons. The exterior part of the brain has
specific functions to every organ in the human body. Therefore, the human brain is the most important
organ in the human body. A person can be left brained or right brained according to how they act.

Memory is a reconstructive process, where someone recall information from the past that will be their
autobiography and it can be affected by many different factors, and according to the first study
provided below, all memories are wrong to some extent. But what is important for memories is
whether we can differentiate between accurate and inaccurate ones. The first study has tested two
different approaches on subjects, and neither were helpful in determining the validity of a memory. On
the other hand, in the fourth study it was concluded that it is possible to assess whether a particular
eyewitness is true or false based on the approach the witness used to recall the information. Also, it
was found in the third research that subjects were

have a lot of experience with them, and I think temporary assignments are a great way to test different
types of companies and jobs. There are certain ground rules to follow when working for temporary
agencies. I will list them later. One of the first things you want to do before calling a temp agency to
set up an appointment is check out their Web site; most, if not all, agencies have one. If you can
register online and upload a copy of your resume, do it. This will help a lot with larger agencies like
Kelly, Robert Half and Adecco. Another advantage is that you can apply for jobs that you think meet
your skill set. Within one or two days, someone from the agency will call you. You will still have to go
in for an interview and skills testing, but incorporating you into their employee network will be easier
for the agency. Many times I have read blogs where people lamented that agencies boasted dozens of
jobs in ads, but when they went in to apply, the jobs had all disappeared. This isn t true. The agency
does have many jobs. The problem is they may not have any that match your

African American Literature Course Analysis
A child is a product of their environment. However, the label granted to the child is designated by the
community and society in which the child inhabits. I, myself, am the product of a predominantly
White society. The transparency and colorless pigment of the of the people that surrounded me was a
blessing, but also a curse. I took refuge in the water downed, flavorless editions of Civil Rights stories
I was told, and for eighteen years, it seemed that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks were the
only valid Civil Rights Movement Advocates. Although my knowledge of African American culture
and history was fragmented and distorted as a child and young adolescent, the studies and in depth
discusses of my Introduction to African American Literature class awaken an understanding and
heartfelt appreciation within me that I will forever treasure and utilize to analyze the struggles that
African Americans continue to have for political, social and economic advancement.
The renowned singer and musician, Bob Marley, quoted, In this future, you can t forget your past.

The Comfort Of Strangers Essay
The extract from Ian McEwan s novel The Comfort of Strangers tells the story of Robert and his
distant relationship with his family. Robert, the narrator, revisits the time that his parents left him and
his sisters home alone in his effort to see if his sisters did, in fact, hate him for telling on them. During
their parents absence, Robert followed his sisters into their parents room and watched them play dress
up with their mother s belongings. The extract follows a sequence of events: the first is dress up in the
early afternoon, then, clean up in the late afternoon, followed by dinner. In this extract, Ian McEwan
displays Robert s distant relationship with his sisters, father, and mother by demonstrating the
unreliability of appearances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After an afternoon of playing in the empty house, Robert and his sisters sit down for dinner with their
father in which Robert notes, I glanced up and he looked straight through my eyes, deep into my mind,
(McEwan 21 22). McEwan uses hyperbole in describing how the father looked deep into [Robert s]
mind , with the use of intrusive language adding to the notion of the father having immense, almost
supernatural, power. Robert even refers to his father as God. McEwan demonstrates the father s power
by contrasting the verbs glanced and looked . The verb glanced represents a timid and quick action
which gives Robert less authority and power in this scene. On the other hand, looked represents a
more authoritative and attention demanding action performed by the father, which causes a shift of
tone and focus. The first part of the extract is all about the sisters, making Robert in some ways
invisible, but now with the father looking directly at Robert, it brings the attention of the narrative
away from Eva and Maria as Robert gets singled out for judgment. This change of focus creates a shift
from the fun and lighthearted tone earlier on when the sisters were playing dress up to a more serious
tone when introducing the father. After Robert s father looks deep into Robert s mind he asks, Tell me,
Robert, what have you been doing this afternoon, (McEwan 23). As one of the three points of dialogue
in the extract, the father s question creates a significant amount of distance between the children and
him due to the formality in his tone. The father s decision to single out Robert from his sisters in the
question serves not only to further isolate Robert but also display the father s wisdom and power. The
father s knowledge of Robert s naïveté that leads Robert to think

Genus Homo Origin
The origin of the genus Homo is widely debated, with several candidate ancestors being proposed in
the genus Australopithecu. I believe that Au. garhi gave rise to the genus homo. I believe this to be
true because even though it is believed that the Au. afarensis was most likely ancestor of the genus
homo, the ancesteral descendent linkage between the two taxa was difficult to identify, owing the
virtual lack of a hominid fossil record in the East African dating to 3 2 mya, the timing during which
earliest Homo likely evolved. The Au. garhi was found in Bouri, in Ethiopia s Middle Awash region,
and it is dated to about 2.5 mya. The Au. garhi is represented by bones, teeth, a partial skeleton, and a
skull. For the first time in hominin evolution,

Descriptive Essay On Fast Food
In our quickly growing society, full of capitalism, advertisements seem to have become the backdrop
to our bustling lives. Though we seem to overlook their presence, throughout all American cities, Ads
are what fill all the empty spaces, from store front windows, to big billboards in the skies. These
brightly colored pictures, that flood our vision as we drive to work, or even stroll down the mall, have
a more influential effect on our daily lives then we realize. A perfect example of this is with the food
industry.
Fast Food is becoming a routine stop for many Americans, as they go about their day. This is causing
health to also be on the minds of consumers. You d think this would defer people from continuing
their daily, fast food pit stop, but in reality, it s the industries that are changing their own
advertisements to promote their healthy options instead. When you take a moment to look at the ads
promoting your favorite food brands, you ll start to notice the emphasis on things such as calorie
count, ingredients, and freshness of the food. You can clearly see these attributes when analyzing the
three different posters, for three different food products, that I have selected.
The first poster, is an image of a Heinz ketchup bottle, created using fresh slices of tomatoes. The
second poster is promoting a Veggie Burger from McDonald s by forming the image of a cow using
various vegetables. While the last poster is for the popular smoothie brand, Naked, in which you see a
healthy looking woman running, with the words Our machines don t run on added sugar or
preservatives and neither will you .
While analyzing the first poster, for Heinz ketchup, your eyes quickly realizes the well known glass
Heinz bottle to be made up entirely of thick slices of tomatoes. The rest of the poster is merely a red
background with a small Heinz slogan at the bottom, which reads, No one grows ketchup like Heinz .
The poster is simple, with only two focal points, the bottle, and the slogan. This forces the consumers
to only focus on what the producer wants them to gather, which is, in this case, the idea of natural and
fresh ingredients. The simplicity of the ad also seems to represent that the popular ketchup brand

  • 2. Mean Girls And Developmental Psychology Essay MEAN GIRLS AND DEVELOPEMTAL PSYCHOLOGY Chinonyerem Onuoha Texas Women s University Mean Girls and Developmental Psychology Introduction The film that I chose to do was the movie Mean Girls. This movie is filled with many funny characters and an amusing plot, but even though this movie has earned the crown of being the official chick flick it has a lot of psychological concepts that people really do not realize. However, when you really think about it, the movie has a lot to relate with when it comes to teenagers going into a new school because every teen that enters high school goes though the emotional and social stages of development. In this paper we will be looking at parts of the movie that focus on Cady and her stages of development as she goes through high school and deals with the Plastics, and then the Plastics themselves as well as certain aspects and things that revolve around them throughout the movie. Mean Girls is about a young teen girl Cady Heron who just moved from Africa to attend a public high school in America for the first time. This is very different for Cady because the high school setting in America will be extremely different from how it was when she was living in Africa. It s not easy for her because she is not used to the American customs or norms . Within the first couple of days of school she becomes really good friends with two people named Janis and Damien. In the school there are many many cliques, and Janis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Oppression In Miss Julie, By August Strindberg Oppression. Criticism. Subjection. Life during the nineteenth century contained harsh gender roles and ironhanded social hierarchies. Men and women were polar opposites of each other and numerous double standards existed. Each social class kept to themselves and fraternizing between the upper class and lower class resulted in social pariahs. However, towards the end of the nineteenth century high class women began to demand equal treatment. To lower class men, this demand proved offensive and received heavy opposition. These lower class men, such as August Strindberg , despised women who sought power and termed them degenerate women. In Strindberg s play, Miss Julie, he illustrates the danger of attempting to defy gender and social roles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The column she climbs symbolizes culture and how her birth predetermined her social stature. Julie knows that due to the height of this column, if she falls she can never regain her place in the upper class. Nonetheless, she still wishes to fall from her high social position despite the dire consequences that will ensue. Strindberg includes Julie s dream because it is crucial to understanding her own demise and foreshadows her fate in the play. He employs this symbol in order to demonstrate that Julie s resistance to social order ultimately causes her own death. Additionally, throughout the play Jean and Julie both fear the bell that hangs in the kitchen. Whenever the count returns from a trip he rings the bell, reinforcing the strict social order. To Jean and Julie the bell represents the oppression of the classes and the strict role they both must play in society. At the end of the play after Julie had sex with Jean, Julie frantically tries to decide if she should run away or stay. The guilt and shame of her actions consume her and the societal implications of her actions prove too much for her to handle. After much debate between Julie and Jean about her predicament, Jean yells, To be scared of a bell! Yes, but it isn t only the bell there is somebody behind it... Two quick rings from the bell...It s horrid! But there s no other end to it! Go [Miss Julie]! (36). Ultimately, the count and the significance of his presence were too hard for Julie to endure, so she commits suicide. The bell serves as a reminder for Julie, its symbolism and magnitude emphasize Julie s betrayal and her fall. Even though Julie desired to join the lower class, the implications of her actions grew too great to cope with. Strindberg uses the bell as a cautionary symbol to demonstrate that we cannot escape from society. The bell is ever present throughout the story symbolizing that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Investigation Of A Coil Gun Abstract: The task of this assignment is to evaluate the of a coil gun using the variables of number of rapes of coil and the distance the projectile will travel. Then will evaluate and investigate the physics behind the gun. Aim: The purpose of this investigation the efficiency of a coil gun using the relationship between the number of coils and the distance the projectile travelled. Hypothesis: In this investigation there is a relationship between the number of coils and the distance the projectile travelled. Therefore the more coils the further the projectiles will travel (cm). Prediction: As more coils are wrapped around the gun, the distance of the projectile will increase. Literature Review: Coil gun A coilgun (aka gun Gauss, Gauss Gauss cannon or rifle) is a type of gun that uses a series of electromagnets for magnetically accelerate a projectile at high speed. The name Gauss gun comes from Carl Friedrich Gauss, who formulated the mathematical proofs of the electromagnetic effect used by Gauss cannons. The Gauss cannons are often called wrongly railguns from various sources, and while they are similar in general concept (ie, a magnetic weapon), differ in operation, since a railgun accelerates the missiles on two rails parallel conductors. The Gauss cannons are in substance identical to the projector mass, albeit on a smaller scale. Kristian Birkeland is commonly considered the inventor of the electromagnetic cannon Gauss, by which he obtained a patent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Operations Management Definition Operations Management Definition Introduction In today s fast paced ever changing business world, organizations must deal with many diverse issues. These issues range from maintaining their competitive edge in a fierce marketplace to social, ethical and concerns regarding the health and well being of their employees. The advent of new technologies has created organizational efficiencies however; it is a well known fact that healthcare has lagged behind other industries with regard to automation. Healthcare is being asked to provide high quality care with increased efficiency yet the patient population believes they are not receiving quality care. McCleave (1996) states that health care managers should look to manufacturing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be accomplished by instituting processes to get patients in to see the respective provider in a timely manner, and addressing all of the issues in an individual encounter. McCleave (1996) documents other methods to increase productivity and quality in the healthcare setting. One would be to create an environment where the physician does only what he needs to do. This means that physicians need to shed duties that can be handled efficiently and in a cost effective manner by ancillary personnel, registered nurses or physician s assistants. Office efficiency is another area where improvements are possible. Processes should be evaluated as they relate to patient encounters and non value adding steps should be eliminated. When one considers all the aforementioned possibilities for increasing efficiency it is very likely healthcare will not only realize cost savings but will be able to provide quality healthcare to the patient population thereby reducing the possibility of patients returning to the office on an emergent basis. Conclusion Operations management is as stated by Henderson is an evolutionary position that is needed for healthcare to prosper. Healthcare it is in a state of enormous change and is faced with economic, regulatory, technological and consumer pressures that must be addressed in order for the industry to fulfill its mission. Operations management will play an integral role in healthcare ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. College At Florida Atlantic University May had come around at long last, and my first two semesters of college at Florida Atlantic University were over. Not only had I survived my freshman year, I also thrived, passing eight of my nine combined courses with A s and getting an A minus in the other one. If casinos all over the country made it achievable for people to place bets on the odds of any given student in any given college emerging successful at the end of any given semester, chances are I would ve been a far greater underdog to come out smelling like roses than Neon Leon was to beat the recently departed Muhammad Ali in February 1978. So we stayed in Nice for two weeks, joined a beach club on the Mediterranean for eleven dollars each, and had a ball, Grandpa said, afterwards taking a deep breath with his mouth open and his eyes closed. We were just about ready to run out of money when we decided to go to a casino in Monaco, which was right next to Nice you could walk there. We took whatever cash we had and put it on the roulette wheel on the black. I m nowhere near an expert when it comes to casino games, I replied while scratching my right elbow with my left hand. But, I used to play simulated roulette years ago on my old PC, and if my facts aren t off it s fifty fifty if you bet red or black on a roulette wheel. It doesn t appear to me as though it d make one lick of difference what color someone chose as far as the odds. Any reason you chose black? No particular reason, Grandpa said while pushing his hair backwards with his right hand and scratching the top of it with the left. You re right the color makes no difference. There are eighteen red and eighteen black numbers in a game of roulette, which means an eighteen in thirty seven chance for a wheel with no double zero and a nine in nineteen chance for one with two greens. You get paid one to one for your nine to ten in Las Vegas casinos and those in other states, so you lose the difference on average. • 9. The Role of Women in the Ibo Culture Essay The Role of Women in the Ibo Culture The culture in which Things Fall Apart is centered around is one where patriarchal testosterone is supreme and oppresses all females into a nothingness. They are to be seen and not heard, farming, caring for animals, raising children, carrying foo foo, pots of water, and kola. The role of women in the Ibo culture was mostly domestic. The men saw them as material possessions and thought of them as a source of children and as cooks. As a man made his way in life by farming yams, he needed a strong workforce. This workforce included his wives and children. A man would have many wives. The more wives and children a man had, the more honor and respect he received. If a man ... In the Ibo culture, when a woman was to be married, the family of her suitor would come and inspect her to be sure she was beautiful and ripe enough to be a part of their family. A woman did not have any value other than her beauty and her abilities to cook and bear children. In a conversation between Okonkwo and his friend Obierika, they spoke of two other villages where their customs are all upside down and titled men climb trees and pound foo foo for their wives (73). They spoke of other tribes where the children belong to the wives and their families. You might as well say that the woman lies on top of the man when they are making the children. This remark makes it seem that there is no love making in this culture, but only child making, in which the woman has no real role. In a description of a ceremony, It was clear from the way the crowd stood or sat that the ceremony was for men. There were many women, but they looked on from the fringe like outsiders (87). The Massacre At El Mozote In the early days of mid December in 1981, the Salvadoran military slaughtered hundreds of men, women, and children who they believed were accessories to the left wing guerrilla group that was waging war against the government. Mark Danner, in the book The Massacre at El Mozote, addresses the bloodbath through the stories of survivors and guerrilla members that witnessed it as well as questioning government officials from both the El Salvadoran and the United States government. It received a mission known as Operacíon Rescate, which translates into Operation Rescue, that had a single goal of removing guerrilla fighters and its sympathizers in the area surrounding El Mozote. The fighters in this force accused the villagers of supporting FMLN and supplying them with food, arms, and people. This accusation eventually escalated to the torturing of certain members of the community and then the barbaric killing of close to a thousand people. The Atlacatl used various methods to murder and terrorize the people of El Mozote that included beheading, shooting, stabbing, and hanging. The armed forces separated the women and raped girls as young as 10 years old as well as gather the children into a room and slaughter them by stabbing or shooting them. At the end of the El Mozote Massacre, the families that were able to escape or that were out of town came back to a village full of carnage and their homes destroyed. The total death count is still debated until this day but it is estimated that the Salvadoran military murdered around a thousand people at El Mozote. • 11. National Anthem Essay The controversial issue of protesting the National Anthem has plagued the United States since the year of 2016. Disputes have occurred over whether or not the athletes should be able to display their opinion to the public even if the demonstration offends our armed forces. Many say the protests are useless because the kneeling is diverting the public eye from the original issue; the anti protest collection also agrees that the kneeling is not unconstitutional, and it should be restricted by the owners of the teams. Though all of the arguments can be assumed to be correct, one might could argue that these athletes were given this high platform so that they could be allowed to use their freedom of speech to express their views about inequality, injustice, police brutality, etc. and to show equality through the unification of their teams. This act of defiance against the National Anthem was said to be disrespectful to the men and women that have protected this country. Many war veterans agree with this because they believe that the athletes are dishonoring the symbol that gave each of us our freedoms. I stand for our flag and anthem, and I kneel for our fallen. That s what patriots do, (Griggs). The veterans of our country are not the only ones expressing their beliefs on the subject; a publication by the Wall Street Journal states that before the National Anthem in Foxborough, Massachusetts, fans held a sign reading Real Patriots Stand Up For Their Country ( Anthem ... This class made me hungry to learn, to step my game up, to not only prove that I can do but to myself as well. I ve learned about so many events and people in this class, but these five subjects were so far my favorites. Lynching Lynching, I would have to said was one of the most interesting and disturbing topics we have talked about. The word lynching came from the name Charles Lynch who was an owner of land in Virginia in 1790. Charles would hold illegal trials of people who would steal, cheat, basically break the rules in his front yard. Charles would hang the victims and hang and tied them to a tree in front of his home. Lynching is unlike from any other murders because it s committed outside the boundaries by a mob of white people wanting to achieve against blacks for whatever blacks did which was nothing. In the19th century, lynching frequently enjoyed the approval of the public. Lynching had become an event, where people from different towns would come and watch an African Americans get lynched. • 18. History of Cloning Essay History of Cloning Although the word itself has only been around for only four decades, the idea of creating an organism identical to another has been around for centuries. Even nature has utilized this process. The actual process of artificially cloning has been around since before 1900s, even though it is heard of more often in the modern world. Cloning began in 1894 with the first clone of an organism. Hans Dreisch was able to clone a sea urchin, and his research led to Hans Spemann s multiple attempts and successes of cloning throughout his science years. As technology advanced, Robert Briggs and Thomas King used Spemann s results to create the process of nuclear transfer used in modern cloning techniques. After many debates over ... This experiment and others disproved Wilhelm Roux and August Weismann s theory that stated: The egg and sperm contribute chromosomes equally to the zygote. The chromosomes are carriers of the hereditary potentials, and the germ cells (gametes) of the embryo are the only ones to carry the complete set of hereditary potentials (nuclear determinants), whereas each somatic (body) cell type contains only part of these potentials required for the specific cell type (Berardino 2). By separating the cells of a single developing embryo to create two organisms, Dreisch proved that the somatic cell contains all hereditary information. The next successful cloning experiment was conducted in 1902 by German Dr. Hans Spemann on salamander embryos, producing twins. Spemann split the embryo using a strand of hair from his newborn son, and the two resulting cells grew into normal adult salamanders. These salamanders were artificially created identical twins. He repeated his experiments many times, and created mutant creatures. He concluded that in order to create a normal organism, the cloning process must be completed before what he called determination, or the stage in growth where cells specialize into different cells for different parts of the body. This stage is completed in the early growth of an embryo (Cheng n.p.). However, cloning in mammals remained impossible, due to the fact that mammal eggs are invisible to the naked eye, while amphibian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Themes Of Death Of The Moth Throughout The Death of the Moth, the main theme is derived from the observation and recognition. By observing the moth s little movement to revive, Woolf recognizes the connection between life and death, and the receptive attitude towards the death. As a human, we usually do not really care or learn a lesson from a moth s behavior. We usually think a moth is a little, insignificant creature. However, as if our thoughts are wrong, Woolf highly values the moth s endless tries to avoid the death and through that, she conveys the moral of the essay. He flew vigorously to one corner of his compartment, and, after waiting there for a second, few across to the other (Woolf, 125). This sentence describes how the moth flies around the window with his trivial movement. That trivial movement becomes a base of Woolf s realization of the value of the death. Woolf discusses her observation of moth s movements and the death in details, using many adjectives that illustrate moth s eternal tries. In that sense, a question is raised: Why the writer describes her observations of the moth in details, rather writes about the moral and purpose more in focus? The above question can be answered by the purpose of this essay. As the story of the moth progresses in a consecutive order, Woolf s attitude towards the moth also changes. There was something marvelous as well as pathetic about him (Woolf, 126). This sentence clearly indicates the change of her attitude towards the moth. At the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are certain ground rules to follow when working for temporary agencies. I will list them later. One of the first things you want to do before calling a temp agency to set up an appointment is check out their Web site; most, if not all, agencies have one. If you can register online and upload a copy of your resume, do it. This will help a lot with larger agencies like Kelly, Robert Half and Adecco. Another advantage is that you can apply for jobs that you think meet your skill set. Within one or two days, someone from the agency will call you. You will still have to go in for an interview and skills testing, but incorporating you into their employee network will be easier for the agency. Robert, the narrator, revisits the time that his parents left him and his sisters home alone in his effort to see if his sisters did, in fact, hate him for telling on them. During their parents absence, Robert followed his sisters into their parents room and watched them play dress up with their mother s belongings. After an afternoon of playing in the empty house, Robert and his sisters sit down for dinner with their father in which Robert notes, I glanced up and he looked straight through my eyes, deep into my mind, (McEwan 21 22). McEwan uses hyperbole in describing how the father looked deep into [Robert s] mind , with the use of intrusive language adding to the notion of the father having immense, almost supernatural, power. Robert even refers to his father as God. McEwan demonstrates the father s power by contrasting the verbs glanced and looked . The verb glanced represents a timid and quick action which gives Robert less authority and power in this scene. On the other hand, looked represents a more authoritative and attention demanding action performed by the father, which causes a shift of tone and focus. The first part of the extract is all about the sisters, making Robert in some ways invisible, but now with the father looking directly at Robert, it brings the attention of the narrative away from Eva and Maria as Robert gets singled out for judgment. This change of focus creates a shift from the fun and lighthearted tone earlier on when the sisters were playing dress up to a more serious tone when introducing the father. After Robert s father looks deep into Robert s mind he asks, Tell me, Robert, what have you been doing this afternoon, (McEwan 23). As one of the three points of dialogue in the extract, the father s question creates a significant amount of distance between the children and him due to the formality in his tone. The father s decision to single out Robert from his sisters in the question serves not only to further isolate Robert but also display the father s wisdom and power. Though we seem to overlook their presence, throughout all American cities, Ads are what fill all the empty spaces, from store front windows, to big billboards in the skies. These brightly colored pictures, that flood our vision as we drive to work, or even stroll down the mall, have a more influential effect on our daily lives then we realize. A perfect example of this is with the food industry. Fast Food is becoming a routine stop for many Americans, as they go about their day. This is causing health to also be on the minds of consumers. You d think this would defer people from continuing their daily, fast food pit stop, but in reality, it s the industries that are changing their own advertisements to promote their healthy options instead. When you take a moment to look at the ads promoting your favorite food brands, you ll start to notice the emphasis on things such as calorie count, ingredients, and freshness of the food. You can clearly see these attributes when analyzing the three different posters, for three different food products, that I have selected. The rest of the poster is merely a red background with a small Heinz slogan at the bottom, which reads, No one grows ketchup like Heinz . The poster is simple, with only two focal points, the bottle, and the slogan.
