What Was The Erie Canal
How the Erie Canal Opened the Door to the Western Frontier After the American Revolution, people s
thoughts turned to the American West. But while the thought of going west was in a lot of people s
minds, so were thoughts of the restrictions making the move almost impossible. The trip to the west
was filled with mountains, forests, rivers and even a few waterfalls. How was this transportation of
people and goods to take place?
Before the Transcontinental Railway, interstate highways and airplanes changed the shape of our
country, there was the New York State Erie Canal system. Although the idea of a canal was perceived
in the late 1700 s, it wasn t until the 1790 s that locks and canals on the Mohawk River allowed for
boat travel from Schenectady to Oswego and to Seneca Lake in the Finger lakes region of New York.
One canal of great significance was the Erie Canal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But because of the drawbacks for commercial waterways with their rapids and waterfalls, Clinton s
idea was an excellent one. He worked hard to promote the idea of the waterway, even as skeptics
continued to call the plan, Clinton s Ditch or Clinton s Folly. Because of the hard work and
perseverance of Clinton, the Erie Canal became a successful engineering project. New York s terrain
was complex, but the canal, four feet deep and forty feet wide, traversed through fields, forests and
cliffs and included eighty three locks. These locks were structures used to equalize water levels
between the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers in New

Dystopian Societies In The Hunger Games
Utopian societies have a tendency to become corrupt dystopias. This means that even though someone
has an idea of a perfect society it can never be achieved. It is important to life at large because people
must realize that there will always be problems some are just larger than others. If men were angels,
no government would be necessary. (James Madison) My first movie is The Hunger Games. The
director is Gary Ross. The Main Actors are, Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta),
Liam Hemsworth (Gale), Elizabeth Banks (Effie), and Woody Harrelson (Haymitch). This movie is an
action film. In The Hunger Games, there is a new government called the Capital. They saved the

Mayella Ewell Power Quotes
Power may be obtained in many ways. It can be obtained in race, gender, or class. In this case,
Mayella Ewell, a white female, lives in a dump. She only has power in which is regarding to her race.
To Kill A Mockingbird, a book made by Harper Lee has a character named Mayella Ewell. Mayella is
a white female who has been savagely beaten with a left hand. She is the daughter of Bob Ewell.
Mayella Ewell has power in her race. Regarding her race, she doesn t have power due to her social
class or her gender. Mayella Ewell doesn t have power in her social class since she is poor. The author
states, Maycomb s Ewells lived behind the town garbage dump... (Lee 17). This quote explains how
Mayella doesn t have power in regards to her class because of her and her family live behind the
towns dump. The text states, He thought he d be a hero, but all he got for his pain was... okay we ll
convict this Negro, but get back to your dump (Lee 18). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While she is white, Tom Robinson is black. And this means that people have never seen a judge rule
for a colored person before. The excerpt states, Now don t you be so confident, Mr. Jem, I ain t seen
any jury decide in favor of a colored man over a white man... (Lee 19). Since Mayella is white she has
more power than Tom because he is black. The meaning behind the quote is that whites have more
power than colored people do. The author says, The witness realized his mistake and shifted
uncomfortably in his chair. But the damage was done. Below us nobody liked Tom Robinson s answer.
Mr. Gilmer paused a long time to let it sink in (Document E). Since Tom Robinson is a colored male,
he showed that he had felt sorry for a white person. He should never feel bad for a white person
because he is the opposite race and it s not good for him to be showing sympathy of his opposite race.
Mayella has power for being white. Being white back then just means that you re more superior than
colored people

Rene Descartes Meditations on First Philosophy
In Rene Descartes, Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes does and experiment with wax to try to
prove that things actually exist in this world. This essay is going to prove how we can tell that things
actually exist and what can perceive the wax. Rene Descartes starts off with a description of the wax
so he can prove to us the changes that will happen throughout his experiment.
Let us take, for instance, this piece of wax. It has been taken quite recently from the honeycomb; it has
not yet lost all the honey flavor. It retains some of the scent of the flowers from which it was collected.
Its color, shape, and size are manifest. It is hard and cold; it is easy to touch. If you rap on it with your

He then tells us his final perspective on how he perceives the wax. It remains then for me to concede
that I do not grasp what this wax is through the imagination; rather, I perceive it through the mind
alone. (Descartes, 22) He ends his argument on how he perceives the wax with telling us that it is not
our imagination that grasps all of the perceptions of the wax, but the mind that does it. Rene Descartes
just proved to us that our imagination is not able to grasp all of the perceptions of the wax but the
mind is. After proving that theory he suddenly starts to doubt his proof. But meanwhile I marvel at
how prone my mind is to errors. (Descartes, 22) He states that his mind is prone to making errors. For
example; For we say we see the wax itself, if it is present, and not that we judge it to be present from
its color or shape. (Descartes, 22) He thinks a mistake our minds make is when we judge that it is wax
by just looking at it and not paying any attention to any of the forms. For this reason he is claiming
that he still is not sure that the mind can actually perceive the wax due to it making mistakes. Back to
what Rene Descartes said earlier about the imagination not being able to grasp all of what we need to
perceive about the wax. He told us the imagination was unable to grasp it all but now

John Bowlby Early Attachment Theory
There are many theories in regards to early infant attachment and subsequent development. One very
common theory is John Bowlby s theory, which describes the special relationship that develops over
the first year of life between infants and the people who care for them (Gross, 2011). Bowlby s theory
focuses on the assumption that early life experiences will in advertently affect one s development.
Internal working models, coined by Bowlby, are defined as infants cognitive abilities increase and
enable infants to form a representation of their relationship with the caregiver. Applying this theory, an
infant uses memorable experiences, both negative and/or positive, to develop their relationship with a
person. For example, if an infant experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sengupta (2011) defines the theory as that, in Maslow s theorization the appearance of a need usually
rests on the prior satisfaction of another more proponent need which is the strongest, in the sense that
it has to be satisfied first. Once it is satisfied, the next category of basic needs emerges, and will now
have the stronger influence on the individual s motivated behavior. Against this background Maslow
concluded that only when lower needs are gratified higher ones emerge, which indicates that the
higher needs are weaker than the lower ones. The theory begins with basic needs such as food, water,
and shelter. The theory than emerges into safety, then love, then self esteem, and finally self
actualization. When applied to early infant attachment, if an infant does not receive proper nutrition
and shelter it will stall that infant s ability to develop. The most sensitive for an infant is safety and
love. Without the security and love of family, food, shelter, sleep, and the body, an infant s
development will be significantly stalled and based on the theory, the infant will not be able to
progress to the next needs until the needs are met in

Elon Musk Accomplishments
Elon Musk is arguably one of the greatest entrepreneurs that has ever lived. At the age of 12 he taught
himself how to code. Then at the age of 17 he moved to Canada to attend school. After two years in
Canada he transferred to Penn State where he received his economics and physics degree. He then
started a company called X.com . Later X.com merged and was renamed Paypal a money transferring
website. He sold Paypal to Ebay for 1.2 billion. His greatest accomplishments are creating Tesla and
SpaceX. Tesla is a car company, their cars use no gas and run solely on electricity. On one complete

rocket company that is trying to offer interplanetary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His creations of Tesla and SpaceX are the stepping stones of getting there. Tesla s main purpose is to
eliminate fossil fuels by switching from gas to electric. Not only does fossil fuels ruin our atmosphere
and ozone layer but electric is more convenient and also has quicker acceleration. SpaceX was formed
because Elon wanted people to live on other planets. Sending humans to the moon and mars is very
expensive and Elon found a way to reduce the cost by saving the rockets and reusing them. When they
detach from the payload the shoot back to earth and using GPS land straight up on the platform. This
method saves a ton of money because they don t need to build a whole new rocket they can just use
their original one. Elon musk has solved the problem of fossil fuel travel by creating all electric cars.
Though they are expensive he is trying to lower the cost of his cars to make them more affordable. His
mission with SpaceX is still in the works. He has not sent a human to mars but he is sending rockets
and satellites into space. He says that he wants to send supplies to mars beforehand so they have more
room on the shuttle when they do send humans to mars. He also plans on sending a full greenhouse on
mars so they can grow plants and food on Martian

The Case Of A Builder Carrying Out Work At New South Wales...
Introduction
In the case of a builder carrying out work in New South Wales under a construction contract for a
commercial office space, legal principles would need to be understood and followed by the builder to
ensure that both the building of and the finished project fits the imposed legal requirements. In New
South Wales, the NSW Commercial Building Code specifies the criteria that all contemporary
commercial buildings and developments must comply with. For a project the size of the $20,000,000
commercial office space development there would undoubtedly be a series of legal principles that
must be complied with. A Contractual agreement and details such as the construction period, insurance
specifics, allowances, defects liability period, date of commencement and practical completion,
payment and much more must be comprehended by all parties (particularly the builder) to ensure the
project is built to the correct standard and within the designated time specifications.
The facts
Latent defects are discovered after the $20,000,000 commercial office space construction project is
completed by the builder.
The plaintiff holds that the latent defects in the office space are a result of defective building works
and thus claims that there has been a breach of contract as the builder acted negligently as they had a
duty to take reasonable care in the construction of the offices.
The plaintiff therefore seeks to claim pure economic loss and sue the builder for damages.

Characteristics Of Catholicism And Christianity
Christianity is the most widely followed religion among the world s population with approximately
2.3 billion followers, half of which are Roman Catholics (Liu). As a result of this widespread
popularity, there is a unique and specific subculture that distinguishes this religion from others. As a
lifelong member of Catholicism myself, I wanted to delve further into the cultural aspect of this
religion and the unambiguous traits. Culture is defined by the shared norms, beliefs, and values within
a group. Catholicism is no exception and is an established subculture with specific characteristics,
material culture, hierarchical organization and other aspects that make it very distinctive. A subculture
is ...defined as the groups united by sets of concepts, values, symbols, and shared meaning specific to
the members of that group (Conley p.85). Catholicism corresponds with this definition because the
religion and its members are united by similar cultural characteristics including both material and non
material culture. The followers of this religion are unified by these cultural characteristics that are
specific to Catholicism. The non material cultural characteristics that define Catholicism as a
subculture are the shared values between members. In general, individuals of Catholic faith are family
oriented. Familial values are of the utmost importance in the Catholic faith whether it be faithfulness
through marriage or through socializing children to have similar values. In

Arms Control (Nuclear Disarmament)
Arms Control (Nuclear Disarmament) Arms control refers to any international limitation or regulation
where developing, testing, producing, deploying, or even using weapons is concerned on the basis that
it is inevitable for some national military establishments to continue existing. This concept points to
some type of collaboration between states that are antagonistic or competitive in general when it
comes to military policy, in a bid to lower the chances of war and in the event of such, to limit its
damage (Jones 4). From a broader perspective, arms control is a product of historical state practices
involving disarmament that has seen many successes and challenges since the 20th century. The two

In the four decades following its entry into force, the NPT has ensured massive growth in the peaceful

widespread acceptance by worldwide nations with the U.S. leading in commitment to ensuring that
benefits accruing from peaceful application of nuclear energy get to be shared equitably amongst
states exhibiting commitment to their NPT responsibilities (Browne, Shetty and Somerville 385).
Moreover, the NPT has proved an important and integral part of sustaining progress in line with
disarmament. This arises from the fact that NPT is the principal legal barrier to proliferation of nuclear
weapons and its party states have vowed to have good faith in pursuing negotiations regarding
effective measures as related to quickest possible cessation of the nuclear arms race and nuclear
disarmament (Jones 11). In fact, since the NPT entered into effect, significant progress has been made

Comparing The Hero s Journey In The Girl Of Fire And Thorns
Hero s Journey Essay
Elisa s Journey
In the first few pages of The Girl of Fire and Thorns, Elisa had no clue she was going to be kidnapped,
escape and fight off the inveirnes, join the malfico, and actually use her godstone for good purposes.
The Girl of Fire and Thorns may seem like a simple book, but this book has a lot of detail and action
that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The character Elisa in the book The Girl of Fire and
Thorns follows the heros journey through a series of events, showing she is an archetypal hero. This
can be proven by her dropping her old life and walking miles and miles a day, getting kidnapped by
the inveirne and finding a way out, and Elisa being able to fight the inveirne for the godstone.

After she found Humberto, she met up with everyone else and they joined a group called the malficio.
It was their new communities group or religion for say. She winded up meeting someone named
Father Nicandro, who had a ton of special amulets and godstones. That helped her and her fellow
people kill all the inveirne, and get all the godstones back. A massive boom rocks the world as it
explodes into a wave of heat and shimmering air. My hair blows back from my face; my skirt plasters
against my legs. Windows shatter, and glass falls in a glittering wash all around me. The animagi
scream. I watch in horror and relief as their bodies wrinkle and wither and dissolve into a blackened
dust. (P. 415).
The book The Girl of Fire and Thorns is definitely a rollercoaster of emotions . The main character
Elisa goes through a lot of serious changes in the book. She started off being a 16 year old, overweight
princess. But after being kidnapped and having to re learn her ways, she is a totally different person.
Therefore, the character Elisa in the book The Girl of Fire and Thorns proves herself to be an
archetypal hero because she dropped her old life and had to walk miles and miles a day, being
kidnapped by the inveirne and finding a way out, and fighting the inveirne and getting the

Electric Hybrid Energy Storage Systems
Abstraction
The energy storage technology is quite important for electric hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles
due to requirement of more power and more efficient with minor compromise on weight and volume.
The challenge for developing more advanced energy storage system is capacity or energy density and
specific power cannot be achieved at the same time. More specific power means less energy density,
and vice versa. The supercapacitor Li ion hybrid energy storage system has both advantages of these
two kinds of energy storage technology. It has high energy density as well as high specific power. The
paper will introduce about this hybrid energy storage system, discuss about its advantages and
drawbacks, and compare this system with other kinds of energy storage systems.
Keywords: Supercapacitor, Lithium ion battery, hybrid energy storage system 1. Introduction
Currently, electric hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles attract more and more people s attention.
The benefits of electric hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles are less fuel cost, less emissions,
less maintenance etc. But there are still many drawbacks such as higher price, less space in electric
hybrid vehicles, require recharging everyday on plug in hybrids and pure electric vehicles, limited
mileage per recharging in pure electric vehicles etc. There are many engineering challenges along with
these drawbacks. One of them is energy storage technology. In recent electrified automotive markets,

Book 6 starts out with the Trojan fleet arriving on the shore of Italy. When Aeneas arrives on land he
creates the temple of Apollo, and a preistess named Sibyl meets him. Aeneas then prays to Apollo to
let him and his crew settle in Italy. Sibyl warns Aeneas that more trials still await in Italy. Aeneas then
wonderes if Sibyl can gain him entrance to The Underworld, so that he can visit his father s spirit.
Aeneas must have a sign from the gods, first. He is told to go into the forest and find a golden bough.
If the bough breaks off easy, then it is fate. If the bough does not come off easily, then it is not fate,
and he should not travel to The Underworld. The gods lead Aeneas to a desired tree. This tree does

Art Museum Reflection Paper
Before visiting the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) to observe and analyze the art covered in class, I made
sure to read the museum s mission statement. That way, it would be in my mind as I walked through
the halls and moved from gallery to gallery and I could revisit it afterward. According to Seattle Art
Museum s executive summary and strategic plan for 2014 2017, the museum s mission is a simple
one: to connect art to life. Through art, the Seattle Art Museum enriches lives and engages diverse
communities. As the leading visual art institution in the Pacific Northwest, SAM draws on its global
collections, powerful exhibitions, and dynamic programs to provide unique educational resources
benefiting the Seattle region, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond (Seattle Art Museum). Regarding the
fact that I am writing this now and had the opportunity to observe and research many works of art
proves their mission to be successful. Walking into the museum, I noticed that it already appeared to
be much bigger on the inside than it did on the outside. The first two floors were lit mostly by natural
light and provided museum visitors access to tickets, information about the museum, the gift shop, and
some food. The remaining floors were dimmer and mostly just the art pieces were given light to
eliminate distraction. The American, Native American, and modern/contemporary art was displayed
on the third floor while the African, European, and Mediterranean art was found on the top floor. The
three art pieces that interested me the most were all found on the third floor in mostly the modern and
contemporary art section. To, help uncover the power of detail behind the artwork, I chose three pieces
corresponding to abstract and abstract expressionism from artists Jackson Pollock, Josef Albers, and
Eva Hesse to research and truly analyze.
The first powerful example of abstract art and in this case, abstract expressionism, comes from
Jackson Pollock. Paul Jackson Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming, in 1912, to a family with four
other sons. When Pollock was nine years old, his father abandoned the family and returned when only
after Pollock had already moved out of the house. Though his childhood was a fairly rough, he loved

An Angry God Edwards
Hailey Smith September 14, 2015
Essay
Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God Jonathan Edwards memorable sermon, Sinners in the Hands of
an Angry God , was first delivered in 1741 in Enfield, Connecticut during the peak of New England s
first Great Awakening. When he delivered this sermon with horrid descriptions of hell, the
congregation listened. It left a dramatic effect on the listeners leaving them weeping, and some even
considering suicide! Jonathan Edwards conveyed his message to turn their lives back to religion and
repent to their god by his use of tone, emotional appeal, and imagery. To begin, Jonathan Edwards got
his message across to the congregation by his use of tone. Edwards used repetition throughout his

Unconverted men walk over the pit of hell on a rotten covering... (Edwards 122). Here he is giving
very vivid imagery. He is showing that unconverted men, or people not reborn again, are walking a
very thin line to an unpleasant afterlife. The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds
a spider, or some loathsome insect over the fire, abhors you, and is dreadfully provoked:his wrath
towards you burns like fire...: (Edwards 123). In this metaphor Edward does a perfect job of
comparing a spider to them. He is saying that they unworthy, like a spider, and that they are worthy of
nothing else but the fire. You hang by a slender thread, with the flames of divine wrath flashing about
it... and you have no interest in any Mediator, and nothing to lay hold of to save yourself, nothing to
keep off the flames of wrath, nothing of your own, nothing that you ever have done, nothing that you
can do, to induce God to spare you one moment... (Edwards 124) In the section Edwards is trying to
have the crowd imagine themselves hanging by a very small thread, with nothing to help them.
Nothing in the moment can help them with their fate, and it has already been decided what will
happen to them. To sum it up, Edward s sermon is filled with an abundance of imagery to frighten
listeners into seeking God and avoiding

Theme of Resurrection in A Tale of Two Cities A Tale of Two Cities is an artistic expression of
Charles Dickens fundamental belief in the resurrection and reformation of man and society. Though
set against the backdrop of the turbulence of the French Revolution, the story gives a message of hope
and renewal by presenting a vision of a better tomorrow. While Dickens condemns the outrageous
atrocities committed by the French aristocracy in its oppression of the peasants, he is equally critical
of the mad vengeance of the peasantry during the Revolution. However, Dickens is optimistic that the
suffering and sacrifice of the nation will give birth to a reformed society. The ... Show more content on

It all tended to a good end; it was not mere waste and ruin. (320)
It was his resurrection that gave him a powerful voice to secure the freedom of the innocent victims
who through no fault of their own got caught in the vicious cycle of hate. The resurrection of Sydney
Carton is different in the sense that instead of being recalled to life, he becomes the Christ like figure
who through his death recalls others to life. Orphaned at a young age, Carton leads a life of
dissipation: his unrequited love for Lucie and his lack of purpose in life turn him into a depressed
drunkard. However, his life gains meaning and value when he makes the fateful decision of delivering
himself to the Guillotine to replace Darnay. He whispers these solemn words to himself, resolving to
redeem himself finally: I am the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord: he that believeth in me,
though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me, shall never die
(371). It is this ultimate sacrifice that results in his redemption and endows upon him a Christ like
heroism of selflessness. Not only does he recalls others to life: Darnay, Lucie, and their family, but,
like Christ, he is himself reborn in the hearts of those he gave his life to save. This beautifully tragic
story brings home the idea of how man s extraordinary ability of love and sacrifice, enables him to

Don Delillo s White Noise
Why is naming things so hard for humans to do? Why does it matter? What difference does a name
make? These are all questions raised in Don DeLillo s White Noise. This novel teaches how to deal
with these uncertainties in many different ways. This postmodern take on the human race and their
reality of the world discusses why the naming of things has such a high impact. DeLillo suggests this
matters because it all comes back to simulacrum, perspective, and questions the reality of these things
due to all the different perspectives. The truth is reality does not change, reality stays the same; it is
simply perspective. Ultimately White Noise allows readers to ponder on the problem of naming and
evaluate solutions to the world of uncertainty. DeLillo uses this postmodern setting to argue that the
problem is not the name of something, it is how the name effects people s perspective and reminds
them that despite the name there is no access to the absolute truth. These given titles and names
engender a certain aura and disposition for themselves that cause either excitement or disappointment.

Examples Of My Life In The Odyssey
Hussain 3 I was raised here, in a country in which your competing for grades, honor rolls, getting on a
sports teams, things like this.Usually most people stay for a time period then jet off to another place to
start a new journey. However, since I have lived in one country for my whole life, I have the same
goals, habits, distractions and problems I currently face. In the Odyssey, I picked three characters who
I could relate to in my life. With Poseidon, he redirected Odysseus s path and made the journey even
harder for him by setting up numerous obstacles. Then came the sirens, who offered a distraction to
Odysseus and his men, but eventually overcame it by plugging earmuffs into their ears. Finally, the
last character that was chosen was Calypso who s island was the island of trouble for Odysseus. These
three characters cause problems for Odysseus, but he reached his island(his home) Ithaca. With these
three characters, I can relate to my life since I have had a Poseidon, Calypso, and Sirens who stopped
me from my Ithaca. First Starting off with Calypso, she was a woman who considered Odysseus as her

Affirmative Action Curbed in California Essay
LOS ANGELES, JUNE 1 California Gov. Pete Wilson (R), vowing to lead a growing conservative
movement to end three decades of racial and gender preferences as an antidote to discrimination,
today signed an executive order abolishing a wide range of affirmative action programs affecting
hiring and contracting in state agencies.
Wilson, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, eliminated or sharply cut back scores
of affirmative action policies or programs that are not mandated by state or federal laws or that exceed
those laws. He also abolished 118 boards and commissions created to advise state agencies on ethnic
and gender diversity issues.
Although he has no direct authority to order policy changes for public ... Show more content on

By itself, it doesn t complete the change we must make. Special preferences remain embedded in state
and federal law. I vow to fight for changes in those laws, quot; Wilson said.
Sean Walsh, the governor s press secretary, said Wilson is the first governor to roll back affirmative
action programs. He said the order would affect all of the state s approximately 150,000 full time job
positions. According to the California State Employees Association, about 60 percent of the state
government work force is white, 16 percent Hispanic, 12 percent black, 6 percent are Asian and the
remaining 6 percent from other groups.
Wilson s action appeared designed to capitalize on public dissatisfaction with minority preference
programs and on a backlash against what is characterized as quot;reverse discrimination, quot; while
at the same time setting him apart from the eight other contenders for the GOP presidential
nomination, none of whom are sitting governors. It comes a day after senior White House officials
said President Clinton is still weeks or even months away from completing a review he has ordered of
federal affirmative action programs.
Wilson already had announced his support of a proposed 1996 state ballot initiative that would go
further than today s order by abolishing affirmative action in all state hiring, contracting and
university admissions practices. At least six other states

Role Of Internal Audit On The Organization Outside The...
MEMO
To: Non accounting specialists
From: Miriam Lombe, Junior Accountant
Cc: Finance Director
Date: 15/12/2014
Subject: Role of Internal Audit
It has come to my attention that the role of internal audit is not clear to some members of the
organization outside the finance department. Therefore, it was decided that a memo is written to
explain clearly the role of internal audit.
Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting function intended to add value
and improve an organization s operations. The audit function can help an organization to achieve
objectives by evaluating an organizations risk management, control and governance processes to help
improve them.
Internal auditors (IA) assess how well risks are being managed in an organization, how the
organization is being governed and how well internal control systems and processes are working.
They report their findings to senior management, highlighting and advising management where
improvements in systems controls and processes are necessary.
By evaluating an organization s risk management and assisting management in improvement of
internal controls, IA s help management to clearly show stakeholders that they are managing the
organization well.
Different from external auditors, IA s work within an organization and their work can vary depending
on the business requirements. They do not only look at financial risks and statements but at a range of
issues that are key to a company s survival

Blackie The Mixer
Have you ever heard of a story told by a dog? The Mixer, written by P.G Wodehouse, is a cute and
funny story about a dog that is adopted by a robber. Blackie, the narrator/main character, is a dog that
misinterprets anything and unexpectedly saves his new family from the robber. As a result of Blackie s
distinct character traits, he doesn t understand certain events which makes him a unreliable narrator.
However, these same traits make him a believable dog. Blackie has a very oblivious personality. For
example, on page 77 of the book is says I looked at the man with a great deal of respect. He was
evidently someone important, if they worried so much about his health. However, when you look at
the sentence before that, the policeman says to the man, They told me to tell you you needed a change
of air. See? This proves that the man had most likely had been causing trouble and needed a change of
air or in other words, moving out of their town. This means Blackie thought the policeman worried
about the man s health, not that the man was causing trouble. ... Show more content on

In Tribute to the Dog, by George Graham Vest, his main point is that dog s are very loyal to people
and will trust them. For example, on page 94 it says, The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man
could have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or
treacherous is his dog. This means that Blackie, from The Mixer, is obedient to his owner. Because of
Blackie s oblivious personality, he does not know that the man is not a good person. However, he is
loyal and obedient because in Tribute to the Dog, he states that dogs are

Review Of The Art Of Reinvention
The Art of Reinvention What is reinvention? Reinvention is the art of changing something or someone
that existed previously, and assigning it a new designated role. Prior to undergoing a reinvention,
someone must experience enough pain in their current situation to aspire a need for it. An effective
reinvention is when someone is able to create something completely different out of the life they
previously lived. Characters from The Americans, Breaking Bad, and Gone Girl all reinvented
themselves into new individuals with new values and beliefs. Although each of the characters
experienced different forms of reinvention, they were all able to recreate themselves into either
something better or something worse. Therefore, as a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press, I
believe that Walter White from Breaking Bad had the most complete reinvention because he came to
accept his flaws, went through an enormous amount of pain, and finally created a new reality of
standards for himself. When a person is in the process of reinvention, it is vital to know why he or she
wants to change and how they can achieve the most effective reinvention. According to Arthur Day,
Recognize what s causing you to want to reinvent yourself....Is it age related, peer pressure, family
expectations? Is it a specific developmental stage you re in? Or is it a reaction to something else in
your life that you re unhappy with? To be fully reinvented, a person needs to do more than just change
a thing or

The Mass Media Influence On Society
The mass media greatly influence the behavior and thoughts of citizens and policymakers, and has a
great impact on policy agenda. The mass media includes television, radio, newspapers, magazines, the
Internet, and other means of popular communication. There are two kinds of media; print media,
which includes newspapers and magazines, and electronic media, which includes television, radio, and
the Internet. There are various positives and negatives of the media and its relation to the public and to
policymaking.
The media allow for Americans to have access to new information, sometimes at a relatively low price
or for free. The mass media provide information for all Americans, regardless of socioeconomic
status; the mass media influence all people, not just the elites. This is important because all Americans
can gain knowledge about what is occurring in the United States government, as well as around the
world. The media can reach all Americans, but can also target specific audiences and demographics.
An example of this is when a magazine focuses on a specific topic or area of interest. Because of the
Internet and television News channels which report news 24/7, Americans have a constant flow of
new information, which they can access at any given time.
The media are also utilized by politicians in campaigns to gain the attention of potential voters, as well
as to spread their platforms and ideas. Individual voters have a much greater sense of who the
candidates are due to

Atonement Theme Love Essay
In Atonement, the theme of love is explored in a variety of different ways. McEwan explores many
different kinds of love including romantic love, platonic love, self love and family love. One way that
McEwan explores love in the novel is through letters. The epistolary form of the novel gives the
readers an insight at what the characters are thinking and feeling, as they more profoundly express
their feelings through their letters. For example, Robbie and Cecilia have expressed their feelings to
eachother through letters since the earlier chapters of the novel, where Robbie sends an explicit letter
to Cecilia (Chapter 8). Their letters continued even when Robbie went to prison and Dunkirk. Cecilia
uses her words to tell Robbie that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These different kinds of love help to make the novel more complex and offer more viewpoints to the
story. Family love is a great theme in the novel, and we see it in many forms. For example, we see it in
the early chapters between Cecilia and Briony Cecilia and Briony have an extremely strong
relationship that falls apart as the novel progresses. The memory of Cecilia comforting Briony in a
nightmare It s only a dream. Come back in Chapter 3, Page 44 helps tell us about the relationship they
have with eachother, and also helps to show how Briony has unconditional support and loyalty to her
family. Briony s fault is that she cannot comprehend the idea that her siblings can be in any way
sexual she fails to see that Cecilia could be in a consenting relationship with Robbie in the library, and
she tries to get her brother Leon to provoke his admiration, and guide him away from a careless
succession of girlfriends, and towards the right form of wife . This strong family love is shown
through Briony being undeniably loyal to Cecilia as she calls herself Cecilia s protector and thinks a
tragedy will bring them closer together. Everything she does is a step towards protecting her family.
Family love is explored through all the characters, and the different relationships offer different
viewpoints to the story Lola and Briony, Robbie and Grace, Emily and Briony...these relationships
show pure and strong family love.

In order to properly balance my diet, I believe I need to eat small meals more frequently. I should
consume more foods containing carbohydrates such as potatoes, milk, cheese, nuts and beans. Grains
and pasta are also high in carbohydrates. According to my plate chart, I need to consume a lot more
vegetables, fruits, and dairy products; however the macronutrient distribution report states that I am at

Perhaps I need to consume little more meat products to higher my protein intake. The importance of

nutrients that are needed in large amounts and the effects of too much or too little macronutrients can
range from not having enough energy, since carbohydrates are the main source of fuel and are used for
energy, to central nervous system and intestinal health problems if there is a lack of macronutrients. In
order for our organs to function properly, macronutrients such as protein are needed for growth, tissue
repair, immune function, for the development of essential hormones and enzymes, and for energy

Why We Buy Underhill
In Underhill s book Why we buy , Underhill (2009) argued that in the US, customers walk towards the
right after entering the store entrance, so the front right portion would be the most visited part of the
store. Also, with a right hand dominance, the most convenient place to place a product is on the right
side when the customer is facing the shelf. With the same argument, Underhill infers that in the UK
and Australia, with a left hand dominance, the customer would walk to the left after entering the store,
so the front left portion of the store is most visited, and the best place to put a product is on the left
when the customer is facing the shelf. Putting myself in the shoe of Gap about to open a store in
London, I would test Underhill s hypothesis to see if it is true. If Underhill is right, I would design the
store to take advantage on the way people walk in the UK, that is, towrds the left of the store, so that I
can influence the buying decision of the UK customers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Brief History of Ethiopia
Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those
who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has
made it possible for evil to triumph. Haile Selassie The name Ethiopia derives from the Greek word
ethio, meaning burned and pia, meaning face : the land of burned faced peoples or in some points also
means something divided . Ethiopia also known as (Abyssinia) is the tenth largest country in Africa,

This can be seen particularly true in urban areas where women are beginning to take a major role in all
areas of employment and men are beginning to take a greater role in domestic life. The Ethiopian
traditional costume is made of woven cotton. Ethiopian men and women wear this traditional costume
called gabbi or Netella. Women often wear dresses (Kemis) and netella with borders of colored
embroidered woven crosses, but other designs are also used. Other ethnic groups and tribes in the
south and west of the country wear different costumes that reflect their own traditions. Some tribes
partially cover their body with leather but others do not wear any clothes at all, merely decorating
their faces and bodies with distinctive images. As far as nation cuisine goes one of the more known
Ethiopian national dishes is called wat. It is a hot spicy stew accompanied by injera (traditional large
spongy pancake made of teff flour and water). Teff is unique to the country and is grown on the
Ethiopian highlands. There are many varieties of wat, e.g. chicken, beef, lamb, vegetables, lentils, and
ground split peas stewed with hot spice called Berbere. It s made of dried red hot pepper, herbs,
spices, dried onions, dried garlic and salt ingredients. Wat is served by placing it on top of the injera,
which is served in a mesob (large basket tray). The food is eaten with fingers by tearing off a piece of

Introduction
The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 encompassed the complicated issues involving civilians with
disabilities in this country. The law has origins dating back to the 20th century and possesses a force
that grew legislation to have a profound effect on future generations. A massive influx of wounded
veterans returning from war created a sudden need for healthcare and benefits assistance for those who
returned with injury or illness. Compensation provided to disabled veterans has come to include
healthcare and treatment. Rehabilitation programs began to take shape and continue to evolve to

Veterans Benefits was evaluated due to a push for independent living that encouraged disabled
Americans to leave the hospitals and institutions. A proposed change in 1978 gave way for a need to
examine the issues facing disabled civilians in society and in public places. The goal was to bring
people out of the confinements of their homes and into the community (Haugen, 2008). Many of these
individuals were capable of becoming participating members of society which would in turn alleviate
the growing problem of disabled veterans returning from war. The population reached a level critical
level of overcrowding and inadequate care and inaccessible care for some. The development of plans
for transportation and public facilities was an essential tool to propel the rights and needs of the
disabled to the forefront. A continued focus helped initiate the 1988 Fair Housing Amendment Act to
alleviate the discrimination issues of the disabled (Haugen, 2008). The powerful force created by the
nation s veterans helped enable the revision of the Rehabilitation Act to also include the civilians with
disabilities. The formation of the ADA or Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990 was
groundbreaking in achieving change with regard the individual rights in all aspects of society. Haugen
reports, much of the language and philosophy used in the ADA is borrowed from section 504 of the
Rehabilitation Act (p. 40). The provisions of section 504 eliminate and prevent discrimination in
public services and assure no disabled person is denied the benefit of public transportation (Haugen,

Egypt And Greek Comparison Essay
The development of civilizations was the key factor in advancing society, advancements that disposed
of the idea of a hunter gather society. The ancient Egyptians and the Greeks are known for
contributing the most towards civilization. However, each possessed similar and different qualities
that came together to help shape our world today.
The Egyptian civilization was very fortunate in terms that their environment was very dependable
unlike Greece. The annual flooding of the Nile river renewed the soil and brought about fertile black
soil that in turn resulted in them being the richest agricultural region. Egyptians figured out that the
land beyond the river was inhabitable and the environment was not dependable. Realizing this they
built their civilization around the Nile river and used the flooding to their advantage. However, unlike
the Egyptians who settled around the river the Greeks built many cities upon mountain strongholds.
For example, acropolis of Athens is known for being the fortified palace on top of the mountain.
Like many early civilizations, both the Egyptians and Greeks had a social pyramid that didn t give
much freedom to the people. In Egypt, the Pharaoh his family were known as completely apart from
everyone else. There was the small majority of nobles who served priests and also the elite who were
below the pharaoh and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Insurance

Recently, the S.184 No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of
2017 was read and referred to the Committee on Finance. With the newly elected President Donald
Trump in office, adjustments have begun to take place on the front end of abortion and what these
procedures and the insurance that covers them will look like going forward. The previously mentioned

Aside from the safe assumption that Americans especially those whom appose abortion don t want to
be funding abortions through their tax dollars, the efficiency of this bill would cover the loopholes that
may have been created by prior acts (Harned, 2015). The modifications this bill would bring about are
going to conserve the time in the future for other pressing issues that would otherwise be spent on an
issue that manages to be discussed redundantly.
The Severity of Abortion and its Role in the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act
Abortion is a one day procedure that can have important lifetime consequences. There is potential for
procedure failure as well as physical, emotional, or mental suffering, which is why there is a need for
some form of deterrence. In the hearing before the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice
of the committee on the Judiciary, House of Representatives, One Hundred Thirteenth Congress, it
was stated that this bill would restrict tax deductions for women who use their own money for
abortion or if they purchase insurance that covers abortion, in turn this will raise the tax for women
should they choose to make that decision (House of Representatives. Subcommittee on the
Constitution and Civil Justice. Committee on the Judiciary, 2014). This sort of disincentive would
ultimately make abortions more costly and may deter women from

  • 2. What Was The Erie Canal How the Erie Canal Opened the Door to the Western Frontier After the American Revolution, people s thoughts turned to the American West. But while the thought of going west was in a lot of people s minds, so were thoughts of the restrictions making the move almost impossible. The trip to the west was filled with mountains, forests, rivers and even a few waterfalls. How was this transportation of people and goods to take place? Before the Transcontinental Railway, interstate highways and airplanes changed the shape of our country, there was the New York State Erie Canal system. Although the idea of a canal was perceived in the late 1700 s, it wasn t until the 1790 s that locks and canals on the Mohawk River allowed for boat travel from Schenectady to Oswego and to Seneca Lake in the Finger lakes region of New York. One canal of great significance was the Erie Canal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But because of the drawbacks for commercial waterways with their rapids and waterfalls, Clinton s idea was an excellent one. He worked hard to promote the idea of the waterway, even as skeptics continued to call the plan, Clinton s Ditch or Clinton s Folly. Because of the hard work and perseverance of Clinton, the Erie Canal became a successful engineering project. New York s terrain was complex, but the canal, four feet deep and forty feet wide, traversed through fields, forests and cliffs and included eighty three locks. These locks were structures used to equalize water levels between the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers in New ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She only has power in which is regarding to her race. To Kill A Mockingbird, a book made by Harper Lee has a character named Mayella Ewell. Mayella is a white female who has been savagely beaten with a left hand. She is the daughter of Bob Ewell. Mayella Ewell has power in her race. Regarding her race, she doesn t have power due to her social class or her gender. Mayella Ewell doesn t have power in her social class since she is poor. The author states, Maycomb s Ewells lived behind the town garbage dump... (Lee 17). This quote explains how Mayella doesn t have power in regards to her class because of her and her family live behind the towns dump. The text states, He thought he d be a hero, but all he got for his pain was... okay we ll convict this Negro, but get back to your dump (Lee 18). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While she is white, Tom Robinson is black. And this means that people have never seen a judge rule for a colored person before. The excerpt states, Now don t you be so confident, Mr. Jem, I ain t seen any jury decide in favor of a colored man over a white man... (Lee 19). Since Mayella is white she has more power than Tom because he is black. The meaning behind the quote is that whites have more power than colored people do. The author says, The witness realized his mistake and shifted uncomfortably in his chair. But the damage was done. Below us nobody liked Tom Robinson s answer. Mr. Gilmer paused a long time to let it sink in (Document E). Since Tom Robinson is a colored male, he showed that he had felt sorry for a white person. He should never feel bad for a white person because he is the opposite race and it s not good for him to be showing sympathy of his opposite race. Mayella has power for being white. • 5. Rene Descartes Meditations on First Philosophy In Rene Descartes, Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes does and experiment with wax to try to prove that things actually exist in this world. This essay is going to prove how we can tell that things actually exist and what can perceive the wax. Rene Descartes starts off with a description of the wax so he can prove to us the changes that will happen throughout his experiment. Let us take, for instance, this piece of wax. It has been taken quite recently from the honeycomb; it has not yet lost all the honey flavor. It retains some of the scent of the flowers from which it was collected. Its color, shape, and size are manifest. It is hard and cold; it is easy to touch. If you rap on it with your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He then tells us his final perspective on how he perceives the wax. It remains then for me to concede that I do not grasp what this wax is through the imagination; rather, I perceive it through the mind alone. (Descartes, 22) He ends his argument on how he perceives the wax with telling us that it is not our imagination that grasps all of the perceptions of the wax, but the mind that does it. Rene Descartes just proved to us that our imagination is not able to grasp all of the perceptions of the wax but the mind is. After proving that theory he suddenly starts to doubt his proof. But meanwhile I marvel at how prone my mind is to errors. (Descartes, 22) He states that his mind is prone to making errors. For example; For we say we see the wax itself, if it is present, and not that we judge it to be present from its color or shape. (Descartes, 22) He thinks a mistake our minds make is when we judge that it is wax by just looking at it and not paying any attention to any of the forms. For this reason he is claiming that he still is not sure that the mind can actually perceive the wax due to it making mistakes. Back to what Rene Descartes said earlier about the imagination not being able to grasp all of what we need to perceive about the wax. He told us the imagination was unable to grasp it all but now ... • 6. John Bowlby Early Attachment Theory There are many theories in regards to early infant attachment and subsequent development. One very common theory is John Bowlby s theory, which describes the special relationship that develops over the first year of life between infants and the people who care for them (Gross, 2011). Bowlby s theory focuses on the assumption that early life experiences will in advertently affect one s development. Internal working models, coined by Bowlby, are defined as infants cognitive abilities increase and enable infants to form a representation of their relationship with the caregiver. Applying this theory, an infant uses memorable experiences, both negative and/or positive, to develop their relationship with a person. For example, if an infant experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sengupta (2011) defines the theory as that, in Maslow s theorization the appearance of a need usually rests on the prior satisfaction of another more proponent need which is the strongest, in the sense that it has to be satisfied first. Once it is satisfied, the next category of basic needs emerges, and will now have the stronger influence on the individual s motivated behavior. Against this background Maslow concluded that only when lower needs are gratified higher ones emerge, which indicates that the higher needs are weaker than the lower ones. The theory begins with basic needs such as food, water, and shelter. The theory than emerges into safety, then love, then self esteem, and finally self actualization. When applied to early infant attachment, if an infant does not receive proper nutrition and shelter it will stall that infant s ability to develop. The most sensitive for an infant is safety and love. Without the security and love of family, food, shelter, sleep, and the body, an infant s development will be significantly stalled and based on the theory, the infant will not be able to progress to the next needs until the needs are met in ... SpaceX was formed because Elon wanted people to live on other planets. Sending humans to the moon and mars is very expensive and Elon found a way to reduce the cost by saving the rockets and reusing them. When they detach from the payload the shoot back to earth and using GPS land straight up on the platform. This method saves a ton of money because they don t need to build a whole new rocket they can just use their original one. Elon musk has solved the problem of fossil fuel travel by creating all electric cars. Though they are expensive he is trying to lower the cost of his cars to make them more affordable. His mission with SpaceX is still in the works. He has not sent a human to mars but he is sending rockets and satellites into space. • 9. The Case Of A Builder Carrying Out Work At New South Wales... Introduction In the case of a builder carrying out work in New South Wales under a construction contract for a commercial office space, legal principles would need to be understood and followed by the builder to ensure that both the building of and the finished project fits the imposed legal requirements. In New South Wales, the NSW Commercial Building Code specifies the criteria that all contemporary commercial buildings and developments must comply with. For a project the size of the $20,000,000 commercial office space development there would undoubtedly be a series of legal principles that must be complied with. A Contractual agreement and details such as the construction period, insurance specifics, allowances, defects liability period, date of commencement and practical completion, payment and much more must be comprehended by all parties (particularly the builder) to ensure the project is built to the correct standard and within the designated time specifications. The facts Latent defects are discovered after the $20,000,000 commercial office space construction project is completed by the builder. The plaintiff holds that the latent defects in the office space are a result of defective building works and thus claims that there has been a breach of contract as the builder acted negligently as they had a duty to take reasonable care in the construction of the offices. The plaintiff therefore seeks to claim pure economic loss and sue the builder for damages. Legal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Characteristics Of Catholicism And Christianity Christianity is the most widely followed religion among the world s population with approximately 2.3 billion followers, half of which are Roman Catholics (Liu). As a result of this widespread popularity, there is a unique and specific subculture that distinguishes this religion from others. As a lifelong member of Catholicism myself, I wanted to delve further into the cultural aspect of this religion and the unambiguous traits. Culture is defined by the shared norms, beliefs, and values within a group. Catholicism is no exception and is an established subculture with specific characteristics, material culture, hierarchical organization and other aspects that make it very distinctive. A subculture is ...defined as the groups united by sets of concepts, values, symbols, and shared meaning specific to the members of that group (Conley p.85). Catholicism corresponds with this definition because the religion and its members are united by similar cultural characteristics including both material and non material culture. The followers of this religion are unified by these cultural characteristics that are specific to Catholicism. The non material cultural characteristics that define Catholicism as a subculture are the shared values between members. In general, individuals of Catholic faith are family oriented. Familial values are of the utmost importance in the Catholic faith whether it be faithfulness through marriage or through socializing children to have similar values. In ... Arms Control (Nuclear Disarmament) Arms Control (Nuclear Disarmament) Arms control refers to any international limitation or regulation where developing, testing, producing, deploying, or even using weapons is concerned on the basis that it is inevitable for some national military establishments to continue existing. Moreover, the NPT has proved an important and integral part of sustaining progress in line with disarmament. This arises from the fact that NPT is the principal legal barrier to proliferation of nuclear weapons and its party states have vowed to have good faith in pursuing negotiations regarding effective measures as related to quickest possible cessation of the nuclear arms race and nuclear disarmament (Jones 11). • 13. Electric Hybrid Energy Storage Systems Abstraction The energy storage technology is quite important for electric hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles due to requirement of more power and more efficient with minor compromise on weight and volume. The challenge for developing more advanced energy storage system is capacity or energy density and specific power cannot be achieved at the same time. More specific power means less energy density, and vice versa. The supercapacitor Li ion hybrid energy storage system has both advantages of these two kinds of energy storage technology. It has high energy density as well as high specific power. The paper will introduce about this hybrid energy storage system, discuss about its advantages and drawbacks, and compare this system with other kinds of energy storage systems. Keywords: Supercapacitor, Lithium ion battery, hybrid energy storage system 1. Introduction Currently, electric hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles attract more and more people s attention. The benefits of electric hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles are less fuel cost, less emissions, less maintenance etc. But there are still many drawbacks such as higher price, less space in electric hybrid vehicles, require recharging everyday on plug in hybrids and pure electric vehicles, limited mileage per recharging in pure electric vehicles etc. There are many engineering challenges along with these drawbacks. That way, it would be in my mind as I walked through the halls and moved from gallery to gallery and I could revisit it afterward. According to Seattle Art Museum s executive summary and strategic plan for 2014 2017, the museum s mission is a simple one: to connect art to life. Through art, the Seattle Art Museum enriches lives and engages diverse communities. As the leading visual art institution in the Pacific Northwest, SAM draws on its global collections, powerful exhibitions, and dynamic programs to provide unique educational resources benefiting the Seattle region, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond (Seattle Art Museum). Regarding the fact that I am writing this now and had the opportunity to observe and research many works of art proves their mission to be successful. Walking into the museum, I noticed that it already appeared to be much bigger on the inside than it did on the outside. The first two floors were lit mostly by natural light and provided museum visitors access to tickets, information about the museum, the gift shop, and some food. The remaining floors were dimmer and mostly just the art pieces were given light to eliminate distraction. The American, Native American, and modern/contemporary art was displayed on the third floor while the African, European, and Mediterranean art was found on the top floor. The three art pieces that interested me the most were all found on the third floor in mostly the modern and contemporary art section. To, help uncover the power of detail behind the artwork, I chose three pieces corresponding to abstract and abstract expressionism from artists Jackson Pollock, Josef Albers, and Eva Hesse to research and truly analyze. An Angry God Edwards Hailey Smith September 14, 2015 Essay Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God Jonathan Edwards memorable sermon, Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God , was first delivered in 1741 in Enfield, Connecticut during the peak of New England s first Great Awakening. When he delivered this sermon with horrid descriptions of hell, the congregation listened. It left a dramatic effect on the listeners leaving them weeping, and some even considering suicide! Jonathan Edwards conveyed his message to turn their lives back to religion and repent to their god by his use of tone, emotional appeal, and imagery. He is showing that unconverted men, or people not reborn again, are walking a very thin line to an unpleasant afterlife. The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds a spider, or some loathsome insect over the fire, abhors you, and is dreadfully provoked:his wrath towards you burns like fire...: (Edwards 123). In this metaphor Edward does a perfect job of comparing a spider to them. He is saying that they unworthy, like a spider, and that they are worthy of nothing else but the fire. You hang by a slender thread, with the flames of divine wrath flashing about it... and you have no interest in any Mediator, and nothing to lay hold of to save yourself, nothing to keep off the flames of wrath, nothing of your own, nothing that you ever have done, nothing that you can do, to induce God to spare you one moment... (Edwards 124) In the section Edwards is trying to have the crowd imagine themselves hanging by a very small thread, with nothing to help them. Nothing in the moment can help them with their fate, and it has already been decided what will happen to them. Though set against the backdrop of the turbulence of the French Revolution, the story gives a message of hope and renewal by presenting a vision of a better tomorrow. It all tended to a good end; it was not mere waste and ruin. (320) It was his resurrection that gave him a powerful voice to secure the freedom of the innocent victims who through no fault of their own got caught in the vicious cycle of hate. The resurrection of Sydney Carton is different in the sense that instead of being recalled to life, he becomes the Christ like figure who through his death recalls others to life. Orphaned at a young age, Carton leads a life of dissipation: his unrequited love for Lucie and his lack of purpose in life turn him into a depressed drunkard. However, his life gains meaning and value when he makes the fateful decision of delivering himself to the Guillotine to replace Darnay. He whispers these solemn words to himself, resolving to redeem himself finally: I am the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me, shall never die (371). It is this ultimate sacrifice that results in his redemption and endows upon him a Christ like heroism of selflessness. Not only does he recalls others to life: Darnay, Lucie, and their family, but, like Christ, he is himself reborn in the hearts of those he gave his life to save. This beautifully tragic story brings home the idea of how man s extraordinary ability of love and sacrifice, enables him to transform suffering into strength and find life in what appears ... • 21. Don Delillo s White Noise Why is naming things so hard for humans to do? Why does it matter? What difference does a name make? These are all questions raised in Don DeLillo s White Noise. This novel teaches how to deal with these uncertainties in many different ways. This postmodern take on the human race and their reality of the world discusses why the naming of things has such a high impact. DeLillo suggests this matters because it all comes back to simulacrum, perspective, and questions the reality of these things due to all the different perspectives. The truth is reality does not change, reality stays the same; it is simply perspective. Ultimately White Noise allows readers to ponder on the problem of naming and evaluate solutions to the world of uncertainty. DeLillo uses this postmodern setting to argue that the problem is not the name of something, it is how the name effects people s perspective and reminds them that despite the name there is no access to the absolute truth. These given titles and names engender a certain aura and disposition for themselves that cause either excitement or disappointment. Pete Wilson (R), vowing to lead a growing conservative movement to end three decades of racial and gender preferences as an antidote to discrimination, today signed an executive order abolishing a wide range of affirmative action programs affecting hiring and contracting in state agencies. Wilson, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, eliminated or sharply cut back scores of affirmative action policies or programs that are not mandated by state or federal laws or that exceed those laws. He said the order would affect all of the state s approximately 150,000 full time job positions. According to the California State Employees Association, about 60 percent of the state government work force is white, 16 percent Hispanic, 12 percent black, 6 percent are Asian and the remaining 6 percent from other groups. Wilson s action appeared designed to capitalize on public dissatisfaction with minority preference programs and on a backlash against what is characterized as quot;reverse discrimination, quot; while at the same time setting him apart from the eight other contenders for the GOP presidential nomination, none of whom are sitting governors. It comes a day after senior White House officials said President Clinton is still weeks or even months away from completing a review he has ordered of federal affirmative action programs. MEMO To: Non accounting specialists From: Miriam Lombe, Junior Accountant Cc: Finance Director Date: 15/12/2014 Subject: Role of Internal Audit It has come to my attention that the role of internal audit is not clear to some members of the organization outside the finance department. Therefore, it was decided that a memo is written to explain clearly the role of internal audit. Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting function intended to add value and improve an organization s operations. The audit function can help an organization to achieve objectives by evaluating an organizations risk management, control and governance processes to help improve them. Internal auditors (IA) assess how well risks are being managed in an organization, how the organization is being governed and how well internal control systems and processes are working. They report their findings to senior management, highlighting and advising management where improvements in systems controls and processes are necessary. By evaluating an organization s risk management and assisting management in improvement of internal controls, IA s help management to clearly show stakeholders that they are managing the organization well. Different from external auditors, IA s work within an organization and their work can vary depending on the business requirements. Blackie, the narrator/main character, is a dog that misinterprets anything and unexpectedly saves his new family from the robber. As a result of Blackie s distinct character traits, he doesn t understand certain events which makes him a unreliable narrator. However, these same traits make him a believable dog. Blackie has a very oblivious personality. For example, on page 77 of the book is says I looked at the man with a great deal of respect. He was evidently someone important, if they worried so much about his health. However, when you look at the sentence before that, the policeman says to the man, They told me to tell you you needed a change of air. See? • 26. Review Of The Art Of Reinvention The Art of Reinvention What is reinvention? Reinvention is the art of changing something or someone that existed previously, and assigning it a new designated role. Prior to undergoing a reinvention, someone must experience enough pain in their current situation to aspire a need for it. An effective reinvention is when someone is able to create something completely different out of the life they previously lived. Characters from The Americans, Breaking Bad, and Gone Girl all reinvented themselves into new individuals with new values and beliefs. Although each of the characters experienced different forms of reinvention, they were all able to recreate themselves into either something better or something worse. Therefore, as a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press, I believe that Walter White from Breaking Bad had the most complete reinvention because he came to accept his flaws, went through an enormous amount of pain, and finally created a new reality of standards for himself. When a person is in the process of reinvention, it is vital to know why he or she wants to change and how they can achieve the most effective reinvention. According to Arthur Day, Recognize what s causing you to want to reinvent yourself....Is it age related, peer pressure, family expectations? Is it a specific developmental stage you re in? A proposed change in 1978 gave way for a need to examine the issues facing disabled civilians in society and in public places. Many of these individuals were capable of becoming participating members of society which would in turn alleviate the growing problem of disabled veterans returning from war. The Egyptian civilization was very fortunate in terms that their environment was very dependable unlike Greece. The annual flooding of the Nile river renewed the soil and brought about fertile black soil that in turn resulted in them being the richest agricultural region. Egyptians figured out that the land beyond the river was inhabitable and the environment was not dependable.
