How effective is the combination of your main and ancillary texts?
How effective is the combination of your main and ancillary texts?  I believe that the combination of my main and ancillary texts are very effective and there is a clear synergy between the products. As we had not included the main artist in the video we found that the product would not be recognised unless there was a clear sign which connected all the products, therefore i decided to use the artists name “T.I.N.O” in the same font in order to show a connection, also by including the artists image I was able to show the audience the connection between the other products as I included images in all the ancillary products.  I decided to create a simple but eye catching product for the cover and advertisement in order to promote the music video. This was our unique selling point which represented the artist and his song “Hang Tyt You” I believe that it is important that my music video and ancillary text have a strong visual link therefore allowing my target audience to relate each product. I believe that the combination of my music video and the ancillary texts are effective and there is an amount of synergy.
My digipack does relate to the Funky genre as the artist features on the front of the cover making him recognisable however when conducting my research not all of the covers featured the artist on the cover.  Using Photoshop and InDesign allowed me to put together my digipack and music advert. Due to the extensive practise I had in using these two programs last year made this years products easier to create as I had basic knowledge of what each tool did, however this year I did experiment with what looks good and what doesn’t, by doing this it allowed me to be confident in producing a professional product.
Consistency between cd cover and advert  In my advert I included  the HMV  and iTunes logo which are familiar logos  as the HMV store is a well known store. It will also increase the promotion of my products as the HMV store and iTunes  have already an wide existing audience who may be interested.  I used the CD cover as the image I would like to put onto my advert, the reason for this was because looking at other magazine adverts, I found that all of the adverts include the front cover, therefore allowing an audience to recognise a product easily.  CD cover  Magazine Advert The use of advertising the product allows the product to be marketed and therefore an audience will be aware of the product and may want to buy it so I found that the advert should be eye catching and include all important information needed such as the release date. By showing that the product is available to be downloaded on iTunes enables the song to be accessible through multiple platforms.
Consistency between CD cover, Back Cover and insert booklet All three  products include the same font when it says “T.I.N.O” and “Hang Tyt You” this shows a consistency between the three pieces.  The font is “AR Destine” this text is quite a funky and unusual text which reinforces  the Funky House genre.  The Back cover and the insert booklet follows a black, white and red colour scheme which creates a connection between the three products.
Images I Used  The images above are the images I used in my ancillary texts. As the artist is not included in our video, there is not a clear connection with our video and the ancillary texts however some video’s don’t include the artist.  Some of the CD covers I looked at did not include the artist , in this form I found that the use of images for our ancillary texts will allow the audience to connect with the artist and also research about him and any further productions he may want to make.
I think my ancillary texts connect effectively allowing my target audience to recognise the artist and his products. I decided to stick to a similar colour scheme of black, red, and white  for selected areas which creates a unique selling point. I also used the same font varying in its size for most two of my ancillary products which creates a connection between the two products.    I’ve challenged my actors image in terms of Hair, costume and make up. We decided not to add make up to the actors and not to have them wearing a minimal amount of clothing as this would reinforce stereotypical views that women are just object and need a good body in order to get by. I feel that I have succeeded in challenging typical conventions of women as shown in the video and in my ancillary products as there is no explicit dancing or minimal amount clothing in comparison to usual Funky videos.

  • 2. How effective is the combination of your main and ancillary texts? I believe that the combination of my main and ancillary texts are very effective and there is a clear synergy between the products. As we had not included the main artist in the video we found that the product would not be recognised unless there was a clear sign which connected all the products, therefore i decided to use the artists name “T.I.N.O” in the same font in order to show a connection, also by including the artists image I was able to show the audience the connection between the other products as I included images in all the ancillary products. I decided to create a simple but eye catching product for the cover and advertisement in order to promote the music video. This was our unique selling point which represented the artist and his song “Hang Tyt You” I believe that it is important that my music video and ancillary text have a strong visual link therefore allowing my target audience to relate each product. I believe that the combination of my music video and the ancillary texts are effective and there is an amount of synergy.

My digipack does relate to the Funky genre as the artist features on the front of the cover making him recognisable however when conducting my research not all of the covers featured the artist on the cover. Using Photoshop and InDesign allowed me to put together my digipack and music advert. Due to the extensive practise I had in using these two programs last year made this years products easier to create as I had basic knowledge of what each tool did, however this year I did experiment with what looks good and what doesn’t, by doing this it allowed me to be confident in producing a professional product.
  • 4. Consistency between cd cover and advert In my advert I included the HMV and iTunes logo which are familiar logos as the HMV store is a well known store. It will also increase the promotion of my products as the HMV store and iTunes have already an wide existing audience who may be interested. I used the CD cover as the image I would like to put onto my advert, the reason for this was because looking at other magazine adverts, I found that all of the adverts include the front cover, therefore allowing an audience to recognise a product easily. CD cover Magazine Advert The use of advertising the product allows the product to be marketed and therefore an audience will be aware of the product and may want to buy it so I found that the advert should be eye catching and include all important information needed such as the release date. By showing that the product is available to be downloaded on iTunes enables the song to be accessible through multiple platforms.

Consistency between CD cover, Back Cover and insert booklet All three products include the same font when it says “T.I.N.O” and “Hang Tyt You” this shows a consistency between the three pieces. The font is “AR Destine” this text is quite a funky and unusual text which reinforces the Funky House genre. The Back cover and the insert booklet follows a black, white and red colour scheme which creates a connection between the three products.
  • 6. Images I Used The images above are the images I used in my ancillary texts. As the artist is not included in our video, there is not a clear connection with our video and the ancillary texts however some video’s don’t include the artist. Some of the CD covers I looked at did not include the artist , in this form I found that the use of images for our ancillary texts will allow the audience to connect with the artist and also research about him and any further productions he may want to make.
  • 7. I think my ancillary texts connect effectively allowing my target audience to recognise the artist and his products. I decided to stick to a similar colour scheme of black, red, and white for selected areas which creates a unique selling point. I also used the same font varying in its size for most two of my ancillary products which creates a connection between the two products. I’ve challenged my actors image in terms of Hair, costume and make up. We decided not to add make up to the actors and not to have them wearing a minimal amount of clothing as this would reinforce stereotypical views that women are just object and need a good body in order to get by. I feel that I have succeeded in challenging typical conventions of women as shown in the video and in my ancillary products as there is no explicit dancing or minimal amount clothing in comparison to usual Funky videos.
