1. How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary
texts?

2. • My ancillary text to support my artist, Guillotine,
consisted of a digipak and a magazine advert
advertising the digipak.
• The digipak includes a bonus extra disk of the making
of the artists debut album. This version of the album is
for the ‘die hard’ fans of the artist that want more than
just the normal album CD version.
• This digipak is for the fans who enjoy physically buying
an album rather that streaming an album which is has
became the norm as we are seeing the decrease in CD
sales.

3. Task
• As well as creating a music video for my main
product I had to create two ancillary texts to
coincide with my music video. This included a
digipak and a magazine advert.
• How the ancillary texts link to music video is that
they compliment each other in terms of style and
also help use synergy through promoting one
another. For example an audience may see the
music video and then want to purchase the
digipak, or they may see the magazine advert and
buy the digipak and watch the music video.

4. Magazine Advert
• My magazine advert was a successful way
of creating an ancillary text to promote the
digipak. From my research I found that
magazine adverts often featured an image
of the artist, album cover, and record label
on them. I decided to incorporate these
into to the advert to help show an
audience relevant information into the
artist and what was being advertised. I
added the digipak’s cover into the bottom
right of the advert to show the stylistic art
work of the cover.
• My magazine advert relates to my digipak
as it features the same colour scheme and
fonts as seen throughout the digipak
maintaining consistency.

5. Digipak
• My digipak features a piece of art as the
front cover. This was chosen as this is
conventional for the rock genre. However
the digipak features images of the band on
other panels and on the track listing. The
colour scheme of the digipak relates to the
music video and magazine advert. This was
to keep the colours constant throughout the
products. This colour scheme helps show the
bands interest in psychedelic visuals and the
gritty look of the digipak helps an audience
identify with the raw sound of the artists
music.
• From research into other artists in my
chosen genre I noticed that many included
bonus features within their digipaks. From
this I decided to add a bonus DVD which
inlcudes the making of the album to give
fans purchasing the digipak something extra.

6. • To conclude, I feel that my ancillary texts helps
support my artists music video and links together
well. I fell this was successful as I managed to
keep a constant colour scheme throughout the
products and offer an audience bonus features
with the digipak. I kept the rawness throughout
all of the products and helped identify the bands
sound through the imagery scene in the digipak
and magazine advert. The advert and digipak
relate to the music video and overall make a good
package as a way of promting my artist.
