The Recession Of The United States
I. Introduction
Ever since World War II the United States has experienced many recessions. There have been many
terrible recessions that have hit this great country hard. What is a recession people may wonder? A
recession is a significant decline in activity across the economy, lasting longer than a few months. It is
visible in industrial production, employment, real income and wholesale retail trade. The technical
indicator of a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth as measured by a
country s gross domestic product (GDP). Although, the recession of 2001 wasn t a dramatic and
horrible recession, it was the end of the longest expansion our country had seen since WWII. The
expansion following the recession of 1991 was 10 years up until this recession of 2001. Furthermore,
this recession was difficult and was hard to deal with and overcome, because during the time of this
recession our country experienced 9/11.
II. Causes of the Recession
After the longest economic expansion in history, the U.S. experienced a recession in 2001. The
Recession of 2001 was relatively short, but still had its impact upon us Americans. Just like many of
the previous recessions our great country has faced, this one had many reasons as to why we fell into a
recession as well. Some of the reasons we experienced a recession in 2001 is, because of the collapse
of the dotcom bubble, the attack on 9/11, and a series of accounting attacks at major U.S Corporations.

Northern Ireland Research Paper
The Troubles was a time period of revolt and discrimination in Northern Ireland that lasted from the
late 1960s until 1998, beginning with direct British involvement in Northern Ireland and formally
ending with the Good Friday Agreement. However, it can be argued that the tension that persisted
during The Troubles still exists today. The Troubles stemmed from the dissolution of a long period of
peaceful tension between two political groups, the Nationalists and Unionists and by extension two
major ethnic groups Irish Catholic and British Protestant. The Nationalists were predominantly
Catholic and shared their religion with the Irish as such the Nationalists wanted Northern Ireland to
remain part of Ireland and felt that Northern Ireland was an affront to their Irish heritage. However,
they were a minority in Northern Ireland being about 33% of the population. Alternatively, the
Unionists which were predominantly Protestant and were mostly immigrants or children of
immigrants from England wanted Northern Ireland to properly establish itself as part of the United
Kingdom and saw the Nationalists and Catholics as backwards people against the flow of progress.
The Protestant portion of the population was a majority in Northern Ireland and through the Unionist
party they established complete control, although not completely through their own efforts which were
to simply overwhelm the Catholic minority. The Unionists also came to power because Nationalists
became apathetic

Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese Herbal Medicine is one of the great herbal systems of the world, with an unbroken tradition
going back to the 3rd century BC. Traditionally, practitioners used medicinal ingredients from all the
three kingdoms ; vegetable, animal and mineral. However, the majority of these are from vegetable
sources, such as: leaves, flowers, seeds, twigs, stems, roots, tubers, rhizomes and barks. Currently, UK
law only permits herbalists to prescribe substances from the vegetable kingdom and so animal and
mineral products are not used. Every herb has a unique action. Cleverly combined together they
perform a multitude of tasks that help bring a holistic balance back to the body. All herbs are of the
highest quality and are prescribed individually to meet each patient s needs. They can be dispensed in
a variety of ways: powders, granules, pills, tablets, capsules or teas.
Acupressure Massage
Acupressure massage is the stimulation of acupuncture points using the fingers to relax muscles,

Triangulation Theory Of Love Essay
Love works at different stages of life, whether it is romantic love or long term love. This can be the
difference between two people who experience ultimate happiness together and or the contentment of
settling. Sternberg s triangulation theory of love helps to explain the different stages of love through
three elements which include; intimacy, passion and commitment (Donges,2017) Romantic love is a
mixture of intimacy and passion. Intimacy is an imitate act or sexual activity with another person of
whom you have strong feelings for. Whereas, passion is strong and uncontrollable emotions. One
might say that the chemistry or passion between themselves and another is uncontrollable. Intimacy is
something that we have control over where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many peoples parents may remained married, but they may not see their parents ever kissing, holding
hands, or showing affection after a certain time period in the marriage. At different stages of life, love
can affect your life. Right now as a college student I am in a romantic love relationship. There is
passion and intimacy in my relationship but there is not a long term commitment. As of right now, I
am okay with no long term commitment because I am not sure where I see my future going. If this
relationship were to last 5 10 more years than I would want a stronger commitment than just being
boyfriend and girlfriend. I would want a long term commitment such as marriage. I would hope that at
that point in my relationship there is still intimacy, passion and commitment to one another. The
process of finding a significant other has most definitely changed compared to a generation ago. How
we used to love was as simple as having an interest in someone, taking the chance to get to know
them, had common feelings, dating, and hopefully getting engaged and married. How we love now is
a whole confusing, long process mess. Now we have commitment issues, and are just talking before
we are labeled as only seeing one and other and are together before we are exclusive and are then
months later officially dating . Being introduced to the family isn t nearly as big of a step as it was
back then. We communicate through text and even break up through texts instead of face to

ESSAY OPTION 1 (MTV)
MTV can be defined as a cable and satellite television channel which broadcasts popular music and
promotional music videos. (oxforddictionaries.com.n.d.). Launched on August 1st 1981, MTV s
programme started out by helping musicians gain exposure through music videos. This helped TV
audiences connect with music by new means. As MTV became more recognised, the network
branched out by creating new means of entertainment. MTV has remained relevant by continuously
adapting throughout its existence to meet their audience s entertainment requirements. (International
MTV and Globalisation).
Originally MTV concentrated on rock music and played classical artists such as the Police . The ...

they are in today. Today, MTV posts networks in over 30 languages in over 130 countries which points
out its successfulness in catering for their audience. MTV has succeeded in becoming an undeniable
influence, not only in their music but in popular culture as well. (MTV, 2013).
Popular culture can be defined as The knowledge of current or up to date events. It can refer to music,
television, film, sports, and anything in the public domain. (reference.com.n.d.). MTV operates
globally and one may argue that MTV shapes their audience tastes however in present times the public
has vast options and therefore can easily dictate by choosing the channel that best suits their tastes and
wants. MTV s power to adapt to change has worked to their advantage as they have been able to
capture their target audience throughout their existence.
MTV was first to establish principles of popular culture. MTV became an iconic presence in popular
culture, inspiring visual media culture. Over the years, MTV has played a major role on popular
culture on a global scale. MTV has advanced in becoming a leading style of popular culture for
younger generations. MTV and its culture has spread world wide resulting in MTV s expansion into
different channels and countries such as MTV China, MTV Canada, MTV India, etc. however, all the
channels belong to one mass media source: MTV.

Essay on War on Terror
On september 11, 2001 there was an attack on America. Four airplanes were hijacked, two were
crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, the third crashed into the Pentagon in D.C. and
the fourth got stopped by a passenger. It was the first terrorist attack on the U.S. soil. Thousands of
lives were lost that day. This attach was the most devastating act of belligerence on U.S territory since
the Civil War (Terrorism, 2011). This even had an enormous influence on America and its history. It
led to numerous short and long term effects. On September 20, 2001, former president George W.

TSA is able to open and search passenger s luggage for security screening, not many people like this
ability. In some cases the agents don t replace the locks or close them properly. TSA has two
companies make different kinds of locks that can be opened and relocked by special tools and
information by the manufacturer. A positive side to this note is that if a passengers TSA approved lock
is missing they can file a claim with form SF 95. (Security, 2010) People get irritated by this, because
no one wants people going through their personal belongings. Despite the fact that this is a simple way
to detect if someone is carrying a bomb, any other type of explosives or anything else that could be
dangerous boarding a plane.
In the beginning of November 2010 TSA added new screening procedures. The new screening
procedures were created because of the reactions of the Underwear bomber . That person smuggled
plastic explosives onto and airplane in December 2009. These procedures include the backscatter X
ray and the sliding pat downs. The backscatter X ray displays images of passenger s bodies. During
sliding pat downs officers screen passenger s breast, buttocks and genitals with the back of their hand.
All pat downs are done by a TSA officer of same gender of that passenger. And if requested the
procedure can be done in a private room. On November 23, 2010 TSA officials said that some U.S

This gives a valiant quality to the film and makes the audience feel good, too! The moment the titles
have finished, the music descends from a triumphant melody into eerie gloomy drone. Combined with
the music we are shown a crisp low angle shot of a full moon surrounded by darkness. Gradually the
camera zooms in from the sky and we see an insert shot of the barbed wire fence giving us an
impression of imprisonment. This is followed by an establishing shot of Mr. Tweedy and his dog. In
his hand he is holding a torch and patrolling the area, as they walk towards us we can hear the pitter
patter of the dog s feet. Followed by, an extreme close up of an ancient rusted padlock (obviously
keeping the fence locked). We are further focused on this as Mr. Tweedy shines his torch onto the
padlock and checks it is securely locked, as he drops the lock we hear the clank noise it makes as it
hits the fence. The focus on the lock reinforces the theme of imprisonment given previously from the
barbed wire. It is also an important element to the film as the audience has to believe that it is evil to
keep chickens locked up. The music has maintained its ominous characteristics. All these
presentational techniques have been used to create the idea that something important is imprisoned
inside the fence; thus

Therefore, I made the decision of splitting the story into two posters that could work as part of the
same marketing campaign whose main goal is to show the deep contrasts between life in COIN and
life on the surface.
The first motion poster is focused on scenes 1 and 2 of the storyboard. In scene 1, the dome that
covers an atomic reactor crashes and the radiation spreads rapidly. The dome rotates as a way of
transitioning to the next scene where the audience, in contrast, can appreciate the magnificence of a
whale swimming near one of the underwater settlements while shinning sunbeams are filtered through
the sea surface. The main goal of this piece is, therefore, to show the deterioration of the environment
and the danger of radiation on the surface in opposition to the peaceful life in the Oceanic cities where
nature is still a top priority.
The second poster is a combination of scenes 3, 4, 5 and 6. In the first part, we can see a dark tunnel
with graffities on its walls and the wheel of a bike with a U lock on the bottom right corner. Suddenly,
the streetlight starts to flicker and a threatening shadow is reflected on the right side of the screen. The
tunnel, which has the same dome shape that appeared in the previous motion poster, rotates once again
to show the following sequence. In this sequence, we can see a woman s hand holding a CMIST card

Essay about Dawn Riley
CEO of America True, Dawn Riley, faces several issues of various criticalities that require careful
decision making. The preeminent decision that Dawn Riley faces is whether or not to spend limited
funds and resources on upgrading Tag, their training boat. Concurrent with that decision, Dawn is
facing several other issues and challenges that need to be addressed. In order to address each of the
challenges, a standard issues matrix used below highlights the severity of an issue and the likelihood
of it requiring immediate or drastic action.

Constructability Reviews: Fostering communication between the designers and the sailors was listed
as a potential problem area given that sailors can get the feeling that designers are too far removed
from the problem. However, in the same token, the sailors also felt that they could contribute more
than previous experiences. This is an important issue that probably requires more monitoring than
corrective action.
A Team members Sexism: There was a limited amount of tension between A team and B team
members compared to other syndicates. However, some of the men who were afraid there would be a
quota of women on the raceboat. For this reason Picking A Team members and Sexism were identified
as a joint issue. Dawn faced the challenge of picking a team that was best qualified and not perceived
to have favoritism or quota s determining who would be on the boat. This is a delicate issue as lack of
confidence in your team members and the selection process could lead to a breakdown of trust, one of
the first symptoms of Dysfunction in a team. This is a particularly sensitive issue given that the entire

Character Response To Fated Ophelia In Shakespeare s Hamlet
Dear Fated Ophelia
In Shakespeare s Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, the state of Denmark became enrobed in an elusive veil
of unrest after the late king s mysterious death and the hasty remarriage of Queen Gertrude to the king
s brother Claudius. In the midst of the dramatic happenings, the king s son Hamlet is left to navigate
his way through the relational dynamic between Claudius, Gertrude, and Ophelia. The young woman
by the name of Ophelia, was the daughter of the late king s adviser and found herself to be caught in
the middle of the surrounding world of deceit and avengement. As Ophelia was molded into the
tumultuous game cultivated by those that were seemingly trying to protect her, she in turn was one
that received the most accumulated hurt.
To dig deeper into the heart of the play, it is beneficial to expound upon a specific dynamic character
and develop analysis through their eyes and surrounding environment. Ophelia is a prime character to
utilize because she was intermingled in dealings with all other major characters and contributed a
unique disposition to every scene in which she was featured. Ophelia strived to embody obedience and
equanimity in all that she did and in turn experienced many moments that fully tested her nature. To
specify, Ophelia was loyal to maintain obedience to her father and brother, whilst grappling to contain
her composure when faced with various relationship struggles between her and Hamlet. Ophelia s

Political Instability And Armed Conflicts
The Arab world today is shrouded in controversy. Political instability and armed conflicts are
portrayed as the norm throughout the Middle East. According to the pseudo regional specialists, the
causes behind all the conflicts faced are obvious, religion and radicalism. Yet this fails to answer the
question, why , which opens the door to better understand the foundation of the present day Arab
states. This questions the origins to why the Arabs chose to leave the Ottoman Empire and take
support from the British Empire, which at the time seemed contradictory. Unless British involvement
with the Arabs had enticed the revolution, then to what extent did European Jihadist propaganda sway
the Arabs to revolt against the Ottoman Empire in 1916? This paper will discuss that the Arab revolt
against the Ottomans was in an effort take control of the Arab territories for themselves without the
need for external influence to push them into making the decision. As such, the alternative explanation
would be that Sharif Hussein was influenced by the British into believing that the revolt was his
opportunity to liberate the Arabs from the Ottomans. Illustrating this point will be by examining
circumstances that had led to the Arab s decision, understanding how European intervention and
motives shaped the revolt, and assessing the incentives the Arabs had for revolting. In order to fully
understand the nature of the revolt from the eyes of the Arabs, and their reasons for their actions

The Works of Poet Carl Sandburg and His Effect on American Poetry
The beloved poet, Carl Sandburg, changed the course of American poetry.
He was a poet, novelist, journalist, and songwriter, yet the influence of his works have not always
been acknowledged. Carl Sandburg s evocations of American urban and rural life, compassion for
people, and his love of nature, through his works have made an enormous contribution to the
American literary scene. Carl Sandburg was born on January 6, 1878 to illiterate parents of
Swedish decent in Galesburg, Illinois. Much of Sandburg s literary works are a result of his life time
observations. He, more generously than many of his fellow authors, left a detailed account of his

Sandburg is too interested in the half tones of humanity, the highlights of humor, the terse queerness.
He is interested in atmosphere....The new sapience, it seems to me, is what Sandburg fails to show.
(clc 35,347) Now, on the other hand Amy Lowell, another critic, has a complete opposite view on the
poem s by Carl Sandburg. The seeing eye Mr. Sandburg has it to a superlative degree, and wedded to
it, an imaginative utterance which owes nothing whatever to literature or tradition. It is a fascinating
and baffling study this of examining how Mr. Sandburg does it....It is, more than anything else, the
sharp, surprising rightness of his descriptions which gives Mr.
Sandburg his high position in the poetry of today. (clc 35,341) These critics views are on the extreme
opposite sides of the scale.
Benet feels Sandburg s poetry is uncohesive, unstructured, and just not sapient.
While Lowell feels his poetry is imaginative and fascinating, along with baffling. If Sandburg were
alive to read the analysis of his poetry by the critics, he probably would have writing a poem about it.
It would have fascinated him, how two people could have such opposite views. In The People,
Yes, a large percentage of the poem is based on the different views and values of people in our society.

Postmodern American Artist s Cindy Sherman And Kara...
Postmodern American artist s Cindy Sherman and Kara Walker critique and question grand narratives
of gender, race and class through their work and art practice. Cindy Sherman, born 1954, is well
renowned for her conceptual portraits of female characters and personas that question the
representation of women, gender identity and the true (or untrue) nature of photography (Hattenstone

most recently her sugar sphinx, A Subtlety, address America s racist slavery past (Berry 2003). These

The Pros And Cons Of Mountaintop Removal
Did you know that mountaintop removal coal provides around three percent of our countries
electricity? That does not seem like much, especially considering all the damage it causes. Large areas
of wildlife habitat have been destroyed so these mountaintop removal companies can gain and make a
profit. These companies do not care about the people in the communities they are hurting. Companies
also do not understand that animals can become exterminated from this, and they have been. Animals
that live in the mountains and streams lose their homes and can be killed. In September 2004, a

These explosives destroy around six hundred feet of mountain soil. According to Mountaintop
Removal 101, More than five hundred mountains have been destroyed by mountaintop removal. Box
cut mining, steep slope mining, cross ridge mining, area mining, mountaintop mining and area mining
are all types of mountaintop removal. This removal process usually takes place in east Kentucky,
southern West Virginia, southwest Virginia, and in east Tennessee (AppalachianVoices). First, the
company has to clear the area of land on the mountaintop. Second, they start blasting. Usually this
includes using millions of explosives and machines to blow up the mountaintop. Next on the list of
steps would be the digging. The leftover waste is then dumped into rivers and contaminates the water.
Coal companies are legally allowed to dump the debris because of the Clean Water Act. The next step
is the processing of the coal by chemically treating it. After the miners see the coal, they start remove
it using huge coal moving machines and take it to a coal processing plant. After the coal is chemically
treated, the company is required to, by law, build on the flattened land. This way the land will not be
wasted. Though it is said that mountaintop removal is the most effective and most cost effective way
to operate, many people say it is harmful to the environment. Mountaintop removal can potentially
expose many locals to safety. It has been banned in many places because of the hazardous effects it

Cigarette Litigation
In August 1970 a leading tobacco defense attorney, David R. Hardy, wrote a confidential letter
warning that indiscreet comments by industry scientists, including references to biologically active
components of cigarette smoke and the search for a safer cigarette, constitute a real threat to the
continued success in the defense of smoking and health litigation. The actual knowledge on the part of

Moore and Scruggs had a number of secret weapons. They took charge of explosive tobacco industry

whistleblowers in the history of the tobacco wars: Jeffrey Wigand, the first high level tobacco
executive to turn against the companies; and Merrell Williams, a paralegal who secretly copied

The two men held another trump card. They offered a deal to Bennett LeBow, CEO of Liggett amp;

financial stability. They also managed to get a back channel to President Clinton and Senate Majority
Leader Trent Lott through political advisor Dick Morris.
Scrugg and Moore s success was not limited to getting the industry to a national settlement. For the

Michael Noble, another movie critic, agrees that Young Sherlock Holmes was possibly the beginning

Holmes and Potter had a similar starry destiny and that Holmes smart alec knowledge contributed to

The Expansion Of The European Empire
The expansion of the European empire through the start of the 15th century became a distinctive
feature in world history. By the 20th century, large parts of Africa and Asia were colonies of European
powers. In modern society, there is a clear separation between the 1st and 3rd world. A main
contributor to this division occurred over 150 years ago with Britain and its colonization of India.
Colonization has had a prodigious influence on developing the modernity of a country. In addition to
the centralized political system gained from Britain, India gained numerous modern technologies and
ideologies that helped them progress as a nation. These progressions, however, have had some
negative effects on India that are associated with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The East India Company effectively ruled India from 1757 to 1857, where their rise to power came to
an end after the start of the Indian Rebellion of 1857 (Lawson, 35). The direct reason for the rebellion
still remains unclear. It was either a planned war of independence against the British power, an
uncoordinated uprising of soldiers who felt a threat to their religion and traditional practices, or simply
a mutiny by soldiers who wanted increased pay and greater career opportunities (Iyer, 4). The British
Crown signed the Government of India Act 1858, which liquidated the East India Company,
relinquishing all of its assets to Britain, including the control of the territories seized in India. This was
the beginning of the British rule over India, the British Raj, which established India as a British colony
commonly referred to as British India.
Under British rule, India began receiving some positive changes that modernized its society. The
British had already introduced their political, social, and economic ideals to India due to the previous
influence of the East India trade company. India adopted the ideas of liberty, equality, human rights,
science and technology from the British, and reformed their government into a centralized political
system. In addition, many new legal measures were taken to protect the women and children of India.

Group Communication In Health And Social Care Essay
1. In a healthcare setting there are two main ways of communicating effectively. There is one to one
communication this is when there are just two people talking to each other the other is group
communication, this is when there are multiple people talking to each other and it is often more than
three people.
2. In a health care setting group communication can happen when there is a staff meet or when nurses
are on their break. These are just two situation in which group commination may occur.

Group communication can be ineffective when there are people that decide to be disruptive and refuse
to do as they are told an example of this is in a class room. Another is when someone is not good at
taking control of the conversation and they don t share their ideas in a way that can be understood.
6. Care professionals need to be able to communicate effectively because if it not effective errors like
not giving someone the right medicine could cost them their live and this will affect everyone
involved.
1. Professionals communicate in a formal way so that information is received and is understood also
using formal language in a health and care setting means everything is understood because when
speaking informally and using slang word may be misinterpreted and a message may not be received
as intended.
2. The difference between formal and informal communication is that formal is very official and uses
correct grammar and punctuation and informal is more relaxed and loose. This is normally used when
speaking with friends or family.
3. Care professionals may choose to communicate informally to other colleagues or possibly to
someone who doesn t speak a language well because it would be easier to break the language

Periodontitis Cigarette Smoking
Cigarette smoking not only has a negative effect on respiratory and cardiovascular health, but also has
been associated with diabetes, gastrointestinal and thyroid diseases, and almost every other organ
system in the body (Johnson Guthmiller, 2007). Linked to various cancers, smoking is extremely
detrimental (Johnson Guthmiller, 2007). Smoking is also the major risk factor for periodontitis
(Preshaw et al, 2015). While increasing the prevalence of periodontitis, smoking also has a profound
effect on the severity of periodontal disease in individuals (Preshaw et al, 2015). The third National
Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) in 2000 found that 41.9% of periodontitis
cases in the United States were attributable to current cigarette smoking (Tomar Asma, 2000).
Smokers have a four times greater chance to be diagnosed with periodontitis (Johnson Guthmiller,
2007). Indeed, patients who are smokers also do not appear to respond as favourably to periodontal
treatment and show a greater risk of refractory and/or recurrent periodontal disease (Fardal, 2008).
Multiple studies show that smoking has the potential to alter numerous processes in the oral cavity
(Preshaw et al, 2015). Most notably, smoking has been shown to modify various aspects of physiology

Hero and Leander by Peter Paul Reubens
During this semester s course we have studied various styles of art throughout Europe, and what has
intrigued me the most is Baroque art. Baroque, as we have studied it, is a period of artistic style that
used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, in sculpture, and
painting. Baroque style began in Rome, Italy in the 1600s and quickly spread throughout Europe. The
Baroque style was endorsed by the Roman Catholic Church, in their response to the Protestant
Reformation. The Church encouraged artists to create works of art that would connect their audience
intellectually and emotionally with religious themes. For my final visual analysis I have chosen Hero
and Leander, by Peter Paul Rubens (Figure 1). Rubens created this oil on canvas painting between
1604 and 1605 in Lombardy, Italy. Ruben s painting features Leander, a youth of Abydos, who used to
swim across the waters at night to Sestos on the opposite side to meet his lover Hero, a priestess of
Aphrodite. The painting measures 96 X 127 cm and is currently located in the Yale University Art
Museum, in New Haven, Connecticut. (Early mythological paintings) From Hero and Leander we can
see the influence that Michelangelo and Titian had on Rubens during his career, in particular, how the
human body moves in extreme ways. Emil Kren and Daniel Marx, on the Web Gallery of Art, give a
nice summary of the subject of Ruben s painting.
The subject of the painting is a legend according to which

Conscription and Its Negative Effects in WWI
World War 1 is often known as the Great War by many people. Canada played a very big and
important role in this war, supplying Britain with many weapons, aids and nurses, foods and on top of
that, thousands of brave soldiers. When the war first started, many Canadian men were greatly excited
about the adventures that they will experience at war and the stories they will be able to tell when they
come home as heroic soldiers. This excitement led many men, even young boys to enlist and volunteer
for the war. However, when this war that was supposed to end in a couple of months, led to a year and
then another, the number of volunteering men started to decrease further and further. This rapid drop
of soldiers led Prime Minister Borden to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could have been one of the reasons why Canadian troops lost so many more soldiers towards the
end of the war than before. The Military Service Act created more than just terrible effects on families
and publics but it also created riots, violence and conflicts with the English and the French citizens.
When this act was first introduced, it gained very unpleasant feedbacks, this was such a controversial
issue that as it became more and more serious, it led Canada to split into two. Canada became a
divided nation with English on one side and French on the other. The cause of this conflict was mainly
because of the conscription act, the English felt that it was beneficial for the war while the French
thought the exact opposite. English Canada was in favour of this forced military service because they
felt that more than enough English men went to war, while the French men contributed very little. On
the other hand, French Canada felt that there was no need to enlist in the war because they felt it was
not necessary to support a country that they did not have any patriotism or love for. In addition,
French men were needed at home to work on the farm. The typical opinion of the war and the
conscription crisis was described by a news article, Almost all French Canadians opposed
conscription: They felt that they had no particular loyalty to either Britain or France. They felt their
only loyalty was to Canada.(The New York

Iron Vs Non Haem Iron Essay
Iron is a vital mineral that is needed for many roles within the body. This includes the transport of
oxygen in the blood with haemoglobin, myoglobin which is iron containing and helps store oxygen in
muscles cells and support of the immune system (Arens, 1996).
Composition of Iron There are 2 different forms of iron, haem and non haem. Haem iron is the most
easily absorbed of the two, and is the more desirable as its absorption is not impacted by other
nutrients eaten in the diet ( Iron | Nutrient Reference Values, 2014). Although it makes up only about
six percent of iron in the diet, it equals roughly a third of the iron absorbed ( Iron | Nutrient Reference

severe toxicity, and may lead to severe morbidity and mortality ( Iron poisoning , 2017). There are 5
different stages of iron toxicity, however, not every individual will go through every stage. During the

coagulopathy, hepatic dysfunction cardiomyopathy and renal failure are the symptoms that occur

Alice Came To A Fork In The Road Lewis Carroll Quotes
Alice came to a fork in the road. Which road do I take? she asked. Where do you what to go?
responded the Cheshire cat. I don t know, Alice answered. Then, said the cat, It doesn t matter. Lewis
Carroll, Alice in Wonderland. This is a quote from Alice and Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll, as said
before. Basically what happens in the quote was Alice started walking and then came to a fork in the
road. Now, she does not know her way around Wonderland, so she sees this cat and says to herself,
This cat probably talks, so she asks the cat where she should go. The cat then asks where she wants to
go, and, of course, Alice says she does not know because she has never been to Wonderland before,
and is hoping that the cat will tell her a preferable direction. Well, instead of just giving a direction,
the cat just replies, all non chilan, then it doesn t matter. This probably leaves Alice thinking, Well that

was given two choices, and he chose the less popular one. Although, in this quote, Alice does not

History of Modern Computing
Computer has been an important gadget in many peoples life. Computers come in various design, size
and types. For example, there are computers that needs to be placed on the desk or on a flat surface
like the desktop computer and the laptops. Where else we have the computers that can be carried along
with us like the mobile phones and tablets. Computers are so important that it is used to communicate
by billions of people. For example people use computer for far distance communication like sending
emails to friend and workmates or talking to family members at any time without restriction and this is
really convenient. Computers are also used for working purpose like the consumer using it for
business, employees to employers as well as customers. (Gary B.Shelly 2011). Computers are also
used for education in schools, library, and at homes as well by students, adults and kids. Computer is a
very helpful medium to learn knowledge and information. In this 21st century, nothing works without
the basic knowledge in computer for example a small shop uses computer to keep the records of thing
that they have sold and even a road site food stall uses the calculator which is also a computer to count
the price. Compare to the past era children used to play out door games but in recent era children
prefer to play indoor with their computers. Today I will be writing about the modern history of

American And Mexican American Culture
Mexican American
Being a Latina born in America and growing up here, I was taught celebrating American culture like,

fire when turning on the grill and the best part; no school! Also celebrating Christmas and new year s
the American way, going to church, eating, and opening presents on Christmas day. It wasn t until 4
years ago I went to Mexico and realized there s more to my own rooted culture and how lucky I am to
have both the American and Mexican culture in my life realizing the generation of Mexican
Americans are forming their own culture with both lifestyles. One of the holidays I celebrated in
Mexico was the day of the dead, or as called in Spanish El Dia de Los Muertos , which could be
considered as Halloween in the America. It is first not celebrated only one day which is October 31st
on Halloween. It is celebrated October 31st through November 1st, there is no running towards the
neighborhood and ringing doorbells for candy, not even dressing up as a princess or your favorite
super hero. Four years ago, I was 13, you could say I was disappointed I didn t get to dress up. I was
in confusion and upset that they were missing out on dressing up and getting free candy. The next day

Comparing Daoism And Confucianism
While Daoism and Confucianism are of two different strains of thought they often flow in the same
way like two parallel rivers in governance in aspects of life, in practice the two systems are often flow

matters, while Taoism concerns itself with the search for meaning. They share common beliefs about
man, society, and the universe, although these notions were around long before either philosophy.

According to Confucius, each person should act with virtue in all social matters; family, community,

make sense but Daoism does not make much sense the ideology in which the ideal ruler and
government do not interfere in the lives of the people and lead them to prosperity of primitive
simplicity by nonaction and focuses on intuitive spontaneity. It is civilization that has corrupted
humanity from its early state of innocence but realistically as a person or society lives and ages there
is no such thing as innocence as one must grow and learn. The sage practices nonaction, gives up
worldly ambitions, and lives a simple life in accord with nature though that one does. The dedication
to right relationships and a solid social order contrast directly with the inner direct intuition of Taoism.
While both philosophies of Confucianism and Taoism may end up with the same result in having a
healthy society, one is taught and can culminate in results while the other is impeded by environmental
variables and through inaction and exclusiveness may cause more

Disadvantages Of Self-Publishing
An indie author, editor, publicist, the publishing strategist Eeva Lancaster stated, Writers can write
whatever they want, but after THE END, when they self publish their book, they become accountable
to readers for the quality of the book they re selling [and] in making sure those standards are met or
exceeded (Lancaster et al.). Suitably, indie publishing is shedding its all involved stigma of
inexperienced authors producing mediocre works from botched do it yourself (DIY) covers or content
shortcomings. Nowadays, artistic desktop technology and networking allows storytellers practical
upshots for self publishing endeavors. Subsequently, the industry s related tech advances, and services
via the Web can help project a professional delivery throughout these creative scaffolds with ease. On

Evidently, writers garner the process of self publication by means of the Information Age at their

The Very Different Ruling Styles of Augustus Caesar and...
Two of the more memorable emperors to the Romans were Augustus Caesar (27 BC to 14 AD), and
Caligula (37 AD to 41 AD). Although only having ruled the empire by a separation of 23 years and
belonging to the same family (through marriage and adoption), their empires couldn t have been more
different. It is possible to determine the impact of an emperor s rule based on their many vices and
virtues, as well as the choices that they make in relation to them. The author Suetonius expressed in
his writings the many vices and virtues that put into perspective the kind of leaders that these
emperors appeared as to their polis. As we explore the concept of vices and virtues, as well as what
kind of ideals these two rulers represented, we will begin to be presented with a clearer picture of what
an ideal emperor would have looked like. A vice can be described as an immoral or wicked behavior;
while a virtue can be described as a behavior showing high moral standards. Suetonius and the Roman
people had a high interpretation of the concept of virtue and vice, as well as their role in the ruler s
life.
When discussing Augustus and Caligula it is simple to bring up the subject of public works and law.
Augustus had the most success with his many projects, including the Temple of Mars the Avenger, the
Palatine Temple of Apollo, and the Temple of Jupiter the Thunderer on the Capitol. Many colonnade,
basilica, and theater were erected and named after relatives. He urged many renowned

A Case For A Stock
2. According to The difference, (n.d.), a bond is defined as a loan from the investor to the bond issuer,
to help raise capital for a company or government. A share is defined as a unit of ownership interest in
a corporation or financial asset that provide for an equal supply in any profits, in the form of dividends
( Shares, n.d.).
Ownership and rights
As stated in the beginning, a bond is considered as a loan from the investor. Therefore if a person
bought a bond such as corporate bonds from a bond issuer, he or she does not have any ownership in
the company with no direct control over the business. It will be just limited to lending and borrowing.
In the case for a stock, when companies wish to expend but unable to do solely through the income
they earn and turn to the financial markets for additional financing by splitting the company up into
stocks, and then sell a portion of on the open market. A person who buys stock is therefore buying an
actual share of the company, which makes him or her part owner (Kenny, 2016). Due to this, the
person who owns the stock (with the exception to preferred stocks) is entitled to vote on annual
general meeting.
Period of ownership
As bond has a loan period. The issuer issues a bond that contains the interest rate that will be paid and
the time at which the loaned funds (bond principal) must be returned also known as maturity date (
Bond, n.d.) As for stocks, the owner can own for an unlimited period until he or she

Research Paper On The Ooookay
I ll bet they re glad to get out of the barn and have a chance to exercise their legs, he thought to
himself, as he returns to the table. After doing some additional figuring, he steps back looking down at
the papers on the table. Measurements, he said with excitement in his voice, I need measurements.
Grabbing a handful of paper, a ruler, and a bottle of ink, he walks out the door headed for the reindeer
barn, leaving the door open. Walking into the barn the wizard calls out, Hey Pete I need your help

Peaceful Protest In The United States
In recent years, the issue of peaceful and violent protests has arisen in the United States of America,
and from these protests, a question has arisen: how do these peaceful protest affect our free society?
The answer to this controversial question lies in the meaning of peaceful protest and application of
this definition. Civil disobedience, or a peaceful protest, is the orderly and nonviolent purposeful
violation of laws in order to change a law or governing system. This practice has been used to change
the opinion of the citizens or the government. The repeated use of civil disobedience has led to our
society s improvement as a whole and has impacted the USA positively; these impacts are seen in the
acts of the 1968 Olympic Medalists, Tommie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both football players show disobedience not to a law but to set precedents in an effort to give support
to a very important issue in today s society and give light to a topic which is often covered up or
ignored; there is no way for these actions, with these intents and outcomes, to damage or discredit a
free society, for they are used to defend this society. Peters, Kaepernick, Carlos, and Smith all shared
one rebellion: fighting for their rights through their actions. This rebellion left a positive impact on
how the government and the people perceived their cause; without these rebellions, debates and
discussions would not occur, and change would not take place. It is through change that society
advances however change is not always welcome, but it must occur, so when necessary change is not
in favor of the governing body s interest, people must speak out to spark change. If that fails, civil
disobedience is the solution. This act is a step toward maintaining a free society and is the only way to
properly do so in drastic

Cuckoo s Nest Figurative Language
Throughout Ken Kesey s, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, the creation of character constructs and
application of textual techniques demonstrates how the status quo is challenged. Kesey effectively
reinforces this idea through the employment of a collection of stylistic techniques. Kesey implements
diverse literary techniques to establish how the status quo is introduced, challenged, and how it
ultimately withstands the rebellion. Kesey uses figurative language to illustrate the idea of the status
quo. Kesey effectively employs the schizophrenic narration of Chief Bromden to demonstrate his
message on the blurring of reality. He utilizes the illusion and metaphor of fog to explain this idea, and
to personify protection and safety. To guard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kesey demonstrates the impact of a self sacrificing, healing influence on the ward, through the
construct of McMurphy. He becomes this Christ like figure to the patients because he makes it his
responsibility to counteract the control and oppression of Nurse Ratched. Kesey uses this symbol
through all aspects of the text. In the aftermath of his final rebellious act, McMurphy sacrifices his
own needs for the lives of others, looking dreadfully tired and strained and frantic. After his death, the
character construct of McMurphy Is still impacting and influencing the mental state of the remaining
patients. Although McMurphy sacrifices his own life for the sake of others, he successfully challenges
the status quo, and unhinges the very basis that it was founded upon:

Sherman J. Alexie s This is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona has multiple interconnecting
themes and symbolic ideas throughout his story. Alexie s story can be simplified as the death of a

hidden connections all through Alexie s work. One hidden connection is the character Thomas Builds

plays a much larger role in Victor s life than just a childhood friend. Thomas Builds The Fire is Victor

Thomas s prophetic stories began in childhood. When Victor and Thomas were children, Thomas told
a story about Victor s father. The story expressed how Victor s father felt toward his own family. He
said, Your father s heart is weak. He is afraid of is own family. He is afraid of you. Late at night, he
sits in the dark. Watches television until there is nothing but white noise. Sometimes he feels like he
wants to buy a motorcycle and ride away. He wants to run and hide. He doesn t want to be found
(Alexie 181). The story Thomas told was highly important because it was true. Thomas knew that
Victor s father would leave the reservation before anyone else. Furthermore, every story that came out

The Cumulative Prognosis Time Distribution For The...
The cumulative prognosis time distribution for the selected signaling pathways are shown in Fig. 4.
The later activation of the IL 10 pathway in the symptomatic subjects can be explained by the anti
inflammatory nature of IL 10 and.... Similarly, the fact that the DNA sensing pathway is quick to
become anomalous is likely due to the initial detection of viral ssRNA by RIG I (Pichlmair, et al.,
2006). In fig. 5, we show further evidence of the pathway cascade, i.e., the fraction of the subjects that
have k pathways out of 403 that are in alarm at a given time averaged over all symptomatic subjects.
This graph suggests that the pathway cascade could permit a potentially very early diagnosis of
influenza. For example, these results suggest that at least 25% of patients that become symptomatic
could be identified in the first 16 hours of infection using a five alarm pathway. Discussion of pathway
results The most likely pathway to go into alarm first in our experiment, based on the MSET results,
was the cytosolic DNA sensing pathway. It was the first pathway to alarm in the cascade over 70% of
the time. Influenza A does not generate dsDNA, but negative sense ssRNA (Pichlmair, et al., 2006).
The cytosolic DNA sensing pathway is known to detect foreign dsDNA in the cell and upon detection
of this exogenous DNA, production and maturation of cytokines and interferons initiates an immune
response (http://www.genome.jp/dbget bin/www_bget?pathway+hsa04623). However, ssRNA can

Examples Of Masculinity In A View From The Bridge
In A View From The Bridge, Arthur Miller explores what it is to be a man in many ways, such as the
jobs and skills the characters have, power within family, sexuality and having honor. Many of these
ways are shown directly, but are also shown indirectly in what the characters say. Eddie Carbone as he
main protagonist of this play, a lot of the themes of masculinity are linked to Eddie and his views.
A concept of masculinity that Miller explores throughout the play is the job that the characters have,
and their skills this links to what Eddie considers to be manly . Eddie is said to be a longshore man at
the beginning of the play, this job has connotations of strength because it is a very physical job.

  • 2. The Recession Of The United States I. Introduction Ever since World War II the United States has experienced many recessions. There have been many terrible recessions that have hit this great country hard. What is a recession people may wonder? A recession is a significant decline in activity across the economy, lasting longer than a few months. It is visible in industrial production, employment, real income and wholesale retail trade. The technical indicator of a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth as measured by a country s gross domestic product (GDP). Although, the recession of 2001 wasn t a dramatic and horrible recession, it was the end of the longest expansion our country had seen since WWII. The expansion following the recession of 1991 was 10 years up until this recession of 2001. Furthermore, this recession was difficult and was hard to deal with and overcome, because during the time of this recession our country experienced 9/11. II. Causes of the Recession After the longest economic expansion in history, the U.S. experienced a recession in 2001. The Recession of 2001 was relatively short, but still had its impact upon us Americans. • 3. Northern Ireland Research Paper The Troubles was a time period of revolt and discrimination in Northern Ireland that lasted from the late 1960s until 1998, beginning with direct British involvement in Northern Ireland and formally ending with the Good Friday Agreement. However, it can be argued that the tension that persisted during The Troubles still exists today. The Troubles stemmed from the dissolution of a long period of peaceful tension between two political groups, the Nationalists and Unionists and by extension two major ethnic groups Irish Catholic and British Protestant. The Nationalists were predominantly Catholic and shared their religion with the Irish as such the Nationalists wanted Northern Ireland to remain part of Ireland and felt that Northern Ireland was an affront to their Irish heritage. However, they were a minority in Northern Ireland being about 33% of the population. Alternatively, the Unionists which were predominantly Protestant and were mostly immigrants or children of immigrants from England wanted Northern Ireland to properly establish itself as part of the United Kingdom and saw the Nationalists and Catholics as backwards people against the flow of progress. The Protestant portion of the population was a majority in Northern Ireland and through the Unionist party they established complete control, although not completely through their own efforts which were to simply overwhelm the Catholic minority. I would hope that at that point in my relationship there is still intimacy, passion and commitment to one another. The process of finding a significant other has most definitely changed compared to a generation ago. According to the pseudo regional specialists, the causes behind all the conflicts faced are obvious, religion and radicalism. Yet this fails to answer the question, why , which opens the door to better understand the foundation of the present day Arab states. This questions the origins to why the Arabs chose to leave the Ottoman Empire and take support from the British Empire, which at the time seemed contradictory. Unless British involvement with the Arabs had enticed the revolution, then to what extent did European Jihadist propaganda sway the Arabs to revolt against the Ottoman Empire in 1916? This paper will discuss that the Arab revolt against the Ottomans was in an effort take control of the Arab territories for themselves without the need for external influence to push them into making the decision. As such, the alternative explanation would be that Sharif Hussein was influenced by the British into believing that the revolt was his opportunity to liberate the Arabs from the Ottomans. Illustrating this point will be by examining circumstances that had led to the Arab s decision, understanding how European intervention and motives shaped the revolt, and assessing the incentives the Arabs had for revolting. Periodontitis Cigarette Smoking Cigarette smoking not only has a negative effect on respiratory and cardiovascular health, but also has been associated with diabetes, gastrointestinal and thyroid diseases, and almost every other organ system in the body (Johnson Guthmiller, 2007). Linked to various cancers, smoking is extremely detrimental (Johnson Guthmiller, 2007). Smoking is also the major risk factor for periodontitis (Preshaw et al, 2015). While increasing the prevalence of periodontitis, smoking also has a profound effect on the severity of periodontal disease in individuals (Preshaw et al, 2015). The third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) in 2000 found that 41.9% of periodontitis cases in the United States were attributable to current cigarette smoking (Tomar Asma, 2000). Smokers have a four times greater chance to be diagnosed with periodontitis (Johnson Guthmiller, 2007). Indeed, patients who are smokers also do not appear to respond as favourably to periodontal treatment and show a greater risk of refractory and/or recurrent periodontal disease (Fardal, 2008). Multiple studies show that smoking has the potential to alter numerous processes in the oral cavity (Preshaw et al, 2015). • 27. Hero and Leander by Peter Paul Reubens During this semester s course we have studied various styles of art throughout Europe, and what has intrigued me the most is Baroque art. Baroque, as we have studied it, is a period of artistic style that used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, in sculpture, and painting. Baroque style began in Rome, Italy in the 1600s and quickly spread throughout Europe. The Baroque style was endorsed by the Roman Catholic Church, in their response to the Protestant Reformation. The Church encouraged artists to create works of art that would connect their audience intellectually and emotionally with religious themes. For my final visual analysis I have chosen Hero and Leander, by Peter Paul Rubens (Figure 1). Rubens created this oil on canvas painting between 1604 and 1605 in Lombardy, Italy. Ruben s painting features Leander, a youth of Abydos, who used to swim across the waters at night to Sestos on the opposite side to meet his lover Hero, a priestess of Aphrodite. The painting measures 96 X 127 cm and is currently located in the Yale University Art Museum, in New Haven, Connecticut. (Early mythological paintings) From Hero and Leander we can see the influence that Michelangelo and Titian had on Rubens during his career, in particular, how the human body moves in extreme ways. Emil Kren and Daniel Marx, on the Web Gallery of Art, give a nice summary of the subject of Ruben s painting. The subject of the painting is a legend according to which ... Canada played a very big and important role in this war, supplying Britain with many weapons, aids and nurses, foods and on top of that, thousands of brave soldiers. When the war first started, many Canadian men were greatly excited about the adventures that they will experience at war and the stories they will be able to tell when they come home as heroic soldiers. This excitement led many men, even young boys to enlist and volunteer for the war. This could have been one of the reasons why Canadian troops lost so many more soldiers towards the end of the war than before. The Military Service Act created more than just terrible effects on families and publics but it also created riots, violence and conflicts with the English and the French citizens. When this act was first introduced, it gained very unpleasant feedbacks, this was such a controversial issue that as it became more and more serious, it led Canada to split into two. Canada became a divided nation with English on one side and French on the other. The cause of this conflict was mainly because of the conscription act, the English felt that it was beneficial for the war while the French thought the exact opposite. English Canada was in favour of this forced military service because they felt that more than enough English men went to war, while the French men contributed very little. On the other hand, French Canada felt that there was no need to enlist in the war because they felt it was not necessary to support a country that they did not have any patriotism or love for. In addition, French men were needed at home to work on the farm. The typical opinion of the war and the conscription crisis was described by a news article, Almost all French Canadians opposed conscription: They felt that they had no particular loyalty to either Britain or France. Although only having ruled the empire by a separation of 23 years and belonging to the same family (through marriage and adoption), their empires couldn t have been more different. It is possible to determine the impact of an emperor s rule based on their many vices and virtues, as well as the choices that they make in relation to them. The author Suetonius expressed in his writings the many vices and virtues that put into perspective the kind of leaders that these emperors appeared as to their polis. As we explore the concept of vices and virtues, as well as what kind of ideals these two rulers represented, we will begin to be presented with a clearer picture of what an ideal emperor would have looked like. A vice can be described as an immoral or wicked behavior; while a virtue can be described as a behavior showing high moral standards. Suetonius and the Roman people had a high interpretation of the concept of virtue and vice, as well as their role in the ruler s life. When discussing Augustus and Caligula it is simple to bring up the subject of public works and law. Both football players show disobedience not to a law but to set precedents in an effort to give support to a very important issue in today s society and give light to a topic which is often covered up or ignored; there is no way for these actions, with these intents and outcomes, to damage or discredit a free society, for they are used to defend this society. Peters, Kaepernick, Carlos, and Smith all shared one rebellion: fighting for their rights through their actions. This rebellion left a positive impact on how the government and the people perceived their cause; without these rebellions, debates and discussions would not occur, and change would not take place. It is through change that society advances however change is not always welcome, but it must occur, so when necessary change is not in favor of the governing body s interest, people must speak out to spark change. If that fails, civil disobedience is the solution. This act is a step toward maintaining a free society and is the only way to properly do so in drastic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The later activation of the IL 10 pathway in the symptomatic subjects can be explained by the anti inflammatory nature of IL 10 and.... Similarly, the fact that the DNA sensing pathway is quick to become anomalous is likely due to the initial detection of viral ssRNA by RIG I (Pichlmair, et al., 2006). In fig. 5, we show further evidence of the pathway cascade, i.e., the fraction of the subjects that have k pathways out of 403 that are in alarm at a given time averaged over all symptomatic subjects. This graph suggests that the pathway cascade could permit a potentially very early diagnosis of influenza. For example, these results suggest that at least 25% of patients that become symptomatic could be identified in the first 16 hours of infection using a five alarm pathway. Discussion of pathway results The most likely pathway to go into alarm first in our experiment, based on the MSET results, was the cytosolic DNA sensing pathway. It was the first pathway to alarm in the cascade over 70% of the time. Influenza A does not generate dsDNA, but negative sense ssRNA (Pichlmair, et al., 2006). The cytosolic DNA sensing pathway is known to detect foreign dsDNA in the cell and upon detection of this exogenous DNA, production and maturation of cytokines and interferons initiates an immune response (http://www.genome.jp/dbget bin/www_bget?pathway+hsa04623).
