Slave Trade in 1807 Essay
In order to ascertain how significant beliefs and ideologies were in contributing to the abolition of the
slave trade in 1807, and the eventual abolition of slavery in 1833, this assignment will consider moral,
political, economic and religious factors which culminated into these two distinct reforms. It will
explore the influence of Enlightenment; the impact of non conformists; the role of individuals and
resistance from slaves themselves. Additionally, it will look at the attitudes concerning the Atlantic
slave trade and slavery from different perspectives. Justifications which were gleaned from the Bible,
and from Antiquity, regarding the differences between white and black people meant that for much of
the eighteenth century enslaving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, it argues that slavery is not necessary for the success of colonies and that abolition would
not be detrimental to colonies rather benefit it in the long run. This document demonstrates how ideas
about slavery were surfacing in the mid eighteenth century.
Protestant Evangelicalism was powered by enlightened thinking. As DVD 2 highlights, missionaries
such as William Knibb, were influential in promoting Christianity. Slavery obstructed this process.
William Wilberforce, an evangelical member of parliament featured prominently in the DVD, his
work towards the gradual emancipation was significant, however the interview does point out that the
programme omits profound individuals such as Thomas Clarkson, who was a central leader of the anti
slavery movement.(DVD 2)
An anti slavery sentiment had developed and sects emerged from Evangelicalism. Despite
disagreements on certain doctrinal topics, there was a general consensus between the sects that all men
were equal before God, equal in sin and their potential for redemption. This was particularly
significant within the anti slavery movement as it highlighted slavery as problematic and obstructive
towards Christian morals. In 1787, A committee united individuals from different classes in society,
such as tradesmen and upper class evangelicals. This Committee met in London with the purpose of
establishing A Society for effecting the abolition of the slave trade This is significant as it highlights

Seasonal Affective Disorder
Alaskans experiences on average about five hours of sunlight during the winter months, sometimes
living in Alaska during the winter can take its toll on a person. The year 1984 was when Seasonal
Affective Disorder first became known in a research paper at the National Institute of Mental Health
in Bethesda, Maryland. Seasonal Affective Disorder mainly affects people in the winter season, but
can also affect people during the summer seasons. Seasonal Affective Disorder is best understood as a
form of depression that affects people in the winter and, less commonly, in the summer. This paper
will help provide a better understanding of S.A.D. and how it affects people living in Arctic climates.

McMahon , et al, 2014). Another factor that can play into S.A.D. is melatonin, which helps with sleep
and wake cycles. Rosenthal, et al, notes how the pineal gland, the gland that produces melatonin, will
react to dark surroundings with drowsiness that can lead people to being lethargic (as cited in Melrose,
2015). When melatonin increases and serotonin decreases, the offset of the proteins can cause
circadian rhythms to be disrupted, which is the bodies 24 hour clock. Researcher Melrose writes that
...circadian rhythms respond to the rhythmic light dark changes that occur daily and throughout each
of the seasons. (2015). People with S.A.D. disorder normally find that their circadian rhythms are off
beat and timed differently with day lengths, for example feeling tired in the middle of the day while
being wide awake or feeling wide awake when it would normally be time to sleep.
Treatments that follow with the diagnose of Seasonal Affective Disorder are antidepressant
medications, light therapy, vitamin D and counseling. Cheung, et al, (as cited in Melrose, 2015)
reports their findings with the antidepressant, fluoxetine and discovered that the medicine was just as
effective as light therapy. Light therapy is typically used in the mornings to help with circadian
rhythms to help set the persons clock . Light therapy usually consists of people sitting in front of

directly went to the registration booth, Maam Grace approached the staff of the Kumbira and after for
how many minutes of chatting, Maam Grace called my attention and told me that I cannot present
because we are late. I felt discouraged and dismay because of the efforts I made it, but God give me
strength to face those challenge, I never cry because for God there s a purpose why I cannot present.
Instead of being discouraged I focused to the things which I can learn like observing those who

Vancouver Bicycle Rental System Essay
In response to the research report, this draft outlines my basic blueprint to research bicycle rental
system. The research will lead to the recommendation of building a bicycle rental transportation
system in Vancouver.
Introduction
From today to the future year 2030, it is appropriate to estimate that Vancouver population will
increase by more than one million. Vancouver public transportation will hardly bear the pressure due
to the largely increase in population. Other than population pressure, the public transportation is
criticised by huge carbon emissions as well. For sharing the responsibility of Translink, it is necessary
to build the bicycle rental system as a supplement of sky train and bus.
The business idea is to establish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is foresee that in next 10 years, more and more people do not take the bus at peak times, but by bike
to avoid the crowds.
Our Public bicycle system is one of remote circulation model, the more the stations, the more people
use it. Thus, the revenue will increase. However, building station net works is the most difficult
problem the development of public bike system. If government will not sponsors this program, a
department or enterprise alone to establish rent houses is difficult to reach the economical of scale.
Therefore, the new business system will end result of high unsustainable costs.
For solving this problem, we should seek the cooperation from Vancouver government. Our
management team should formed by the Municipal Construction Commission, Public Transport Group
and all other relevant units. Urban management, traffic police, public transportation and communities
together selected stations address. All stations will located in sidewalks, parking lots, bus stations and
other public areas at a very low rent cost or even free.As the bicycle becoming an important
component of urban public transport part, the market orient mode will difficult to go through. Our
team explicitly proposed public bike should be implemented largely public operation. Public bike
rental system, hardware, software should be invested from the government budget.
To avoiding loss from stealing, our team will also cooperate with university of

8 Factors That Can Influence The Potential On Postsynaptic...
1. The following are 8 factors that can influence the potential on the postsynaptic membrane:
(a) Excitatory Postsynaptic Potentials (EPSPs): EPSPs increase the postsynaptic neuron s likelihood to
generate an action potential by generating a local depolarization. EPSPs result from excitatory stimuli,
such as an excitatory neurotransmitter (Glutamate) released by the presynaptic neuron. Excitatory
stimuli will bind and open ligand gated Na+ channels, allowing Na+ ions to move inside a cell down
their concentration gradient. The influx of Na+ ions will cause a local depolarization at the
postsynaptic membrane, which if summated can reach threshold and fire an action potential.
(b) Inhibitory Postsynaptic Potentials (IPSPs): EPSPs decrease the postsynaptic neuron s likelihood to
generate an action potential by generating a local hyperpolarization. EPSPs result from inhibitory
stimuli such as an inhibitory neurotransmitter (GABA) released by the presynaptic neuron. Inhibitory
stimuli can bind and open ligand gated K+ channels and Cl channels, allowing K+ ions to move out of
a cell and allowing Cl ions to move into a cell down their concentration gradient. The influx of Cl ions
and the outflux of K+ ions causes a local hyperpolarization at the postsynaptic membrane, which
reduces the postsynaptic neuron s probability to firing an action potential.
(c) Temporal Summation: The presynaptic neuron can influence the postsynaptic neuron by changing
the frequency of the stimulus.

The Science Of Math And Science By Mathematical And...
Some of Earths greatest questions have been solved through the arts of math and science by
mathematical and experimental proof. However, not all of the worlds problems can be solved directly
through experiments and equations. Philosophy and theories are sometimes accepted as truth because
there is no other explanation for a mind boggling questions. Some philosophers or Scientists were
even deemed blasphemous through their beliefs or teachings. Two men, born and raised in religious
and still skeptic times were René Descartes and Charles Darwin who, with their most infamous books,
The Mediation and the Origin of Species would create chaos in the minds of religious believers at the
time but, in the long run, would be considered to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To resolve this, he decides to discard all his former beliefs and conceptions, reconstruct his
knowledge, and only acknowledging information as true only if the statements are unquestionably
true. He believed that he could be dreaming and at any moment wake up. Perhaps God or some evil
entity could be deceiving him and so he concluded that everything he once thought was real was
obtained through the senses and dismissing his own sanity was the only way to obtain concrete truth.
Darwin also had to accept Rene Descartes beliefs in some perspective as well. Charles Darwin, as
mentioned above, was also raised in a religious home and before his discoveries, he was also a man of
God. Though, as his discoveries overtook his religious perspective, he leaned more towards the
scientific side of things and began to reject his previous beliefs. Thus, he had to, somewhat, also take
everything that he had thought before as false, unless factual truth could prove otherwise. Only then
could he take in his findings as truth, which he did so. He rejected his previous faith and accepted his
discoveries as absolute truth sense there was concrete proof to prove his theory correct.
When Descartes reasoned

Cultural Imperialism In The Sixteenth Century
Cultural imperialism is the dominance of one culture over another leading to the diminishment or
annihilation of one or the other. The term was used for the first time in the sixteenth century, describing
the colonial, economic, territorial and military dominance and influence over smaller countries.
Imperialism brought about industrialization, and by extension, globalization. This brought great
infrastructure and machinery to the countries that were colonized. Moreover, imperialism brought
benefits to cultural ideologies resulted in the exchange of cultural ideas, traditions, language, food,

A Trip To The Congo Analysis
As their trip in the Congo begins, Ruth May mentions: What they do is, they all stare at us (Kingsolver

having religion forced upon them, but also furthers the separation of the family that happens due to the
events in the Congo. The Reverend begins to really delve into the spirit of his mission by preaching to
anyone who will listen which is not very many. Nathan, however, makes a grave mistake consistently
pronounces words wrong during his sermons: It is a special kind of person who will...stand...before
them...and say words wrong, week after week (Kingsolver 213). This leads to an uneasiness with the

The Concept Of Cardinal Change
Legal Research Assignment
My legal research paper is on the concept of Cardinal change. Cardinal change is one of three legal
classifications of change. A change is define as followed; Any alteration to a contract permitted by the
Changes clause of a contract. (Nash, Scooner, O Brien, 2007). Most construction contracts contain a
clause governing changes that allows the owner to change or modify the work required under the
contract documents. (Loulakis Santiago, 2001). When clause mentioned above is included in the
contractor it means the contractor is typically required to perform the change. Now a cardinal change
is considered a major change to the contract. A Cardinal change is define as followed; A change that is

contract with the Army Chemical Corps to make over 1100 smoke generators which were designated
to be M3A1. The total fixed price contract price was $607,101.04. The major issue that occur with the
agreement was the large number of changes made by the Government after the contract was awarded.
Yes, the contain the clause governing changes that allowed Army Chemical Corps to change or modify
the work required but Air A Plane Corporation did not expect such a large number of changes. This
belief was based principally on the fact that the contract, by way of detailed and comprehensive
specifications and drawings, described the contract items minutely. This belief was apparently also
based in part upon the fact that the contract was a fixed price contract. (Justia, 1969). For the first
issue the board found that a large number of changes were made after the contract was awarded.
Whether they look at the number Air A Plane Corporation submitted or the one Army Chemical Corps
submitted, the number was still large. The first change

Spanish Cuisine
Spanish Cuisine
The earliest settlers of Spain include the Iberians, the Celts, and the Basques groups. Then the
Phoenicians came, who were later followed by the Greeks, who ruled Spain until they were defeated
by the Romans. The last of the settlers to arrive were armies of Arabs and Berbers, whom were called
Moors. Fascinated with water, they developed irrigation systems and planted citrus and almond trees
in eastern and southern Spain.
The Phoenicians arrived from the Mediterranean and brought their sauces to Spain. The Greeks gave
the Spanish cuisine olives and olive oil though. Other cultures that have contributed to the Spanish
cuisine are the Jews and the Carthaginians. At one point in time, Christians, Jews and Moors lived ...

Paella is one of Spain s most recognized dishes. The ingredients and methods of how paella is made is
a prime culinary example of Spain s history and its people. Paella takes its name from the utensil in
which it is cooked and from the Spanish region on the shores of the Mediterranean where the union

contributed rice and saffron.
Andalusia is located in southern Spain. This region is where tapas originated. Andalusia is also the
world s largest producer of olive oil, which has influenced the flavor of this region. Green olives are
picked and are used in dishes such as tapas and black olives are used for making oil. Another
important dish that originated from Andalusia is gazpacho. It was originally recognized as peasant
food, which consisted of bread, olive oil and crushed garlic. Throughout the years, the ingredients to
gazpacho evolved with the addition of tomatoes.

Dividend Policy at Fpl Group, Inc.
Question 1
We believe that Ms Stark should not revise her recommendation regarding FPL. The HOLD
recommendation seems to be the most appropriate. Our judgement assumes a dividend cut from FPL.
However, this dividend cut would be a precise strategic choice rather than one dictated by financing
difficulties. Specifically, the dividend cut will raise future growth, with little effect on the stock price.
By cutting dividends, FPL can react better to future threats. After an initial panic selling triggered by
the news shock (FPL never cut its dividend in the past 47 years), investors will process the new
information realized that the dividend cut is balanced by an increased growth rate in the future. To

Indeed, FPL s management may see this as an opportunity to gain more share in the Industrial and
Commercial segments, making it a positive change, at least in the short term.
In order to access this opportunity however, FPL would need to address its prices and costs. Exhibit 7
shows FPL to have low some of the highest rates (per KWH) in the industry for every market
segment. These high prices are unlikely to win many new customers if retail wheeling is introduced.
Unfortunately for FPL, they also have some of the highest costs (per KWH) in the industry, which
means any reduction in prices will only see margin compression and lower their profitability further.
Lowering costs will be difficult for FPL. Since James Broadhead took over as CEO his focus on cost
reduction and quality maintenance have led FPL to achieve record results. However it may be that all
the costs which can be removed from the system have already been removed. And yet, FPL still has
some of the highest costs (per KWH) in the industry.
Finally, while it is not mentioned in the case, it may be that FPL could use the rise of retail wheeling
to expand its market outside of Florida itself. With low projections of capital expenditure anticipated
for the following years, and an ensuing dividend cut, FPL could choose to invest significantly in
increasing capacity so as to be ready to

Similarities Between Mount Vesuvius And St. Helens
Have you ever been near a volcano when it erupted? Most of us haven t, but if you re unlucky enough,
you just might have. Many people think it would be cool, but it is indeed not. In fact, the people of
Pompeii were very unlucky when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. Nearly two thousand people
died. Although that eruption was very similar to the 1980 eruption of Saint Helens, it was also very
different.
The two Stratovolcanoes, Mt. Vesuvius and St. Helens, have many traits in common. For example,
when these two volcanoes erupted, they both made a huge ash cloud. Also, they both began with
harmonic tremors, which are small earthquakes, that includes the venting of gases from the magma of
volcanoes. Also, they spewed tons of ash and pumice.

Why DonT We Complain By William F Buckley Analysis
The Answer to William F. Buckley s Why Don t We Complain? William F. Buckley created an essay
in 1961 capturing the reluctance of todays society to complain about the things that things that are
irksome. He divulges his opinion on why Americans are so unwilling to share their opinion on matters
that are concerning to them irrespective of how trivial they may seem, or how enlarged the situation
may be. Buckley describes several accounts in his essay from the temperature on a train not being the
ideal setting, the strains of having to deal with a blurry picture at the movies, and the failures of a
waitress to respond to his needs of more milk with his breakfast. He also speaks about having to take
an airline attendances word as only script while he waits for the removal of his tray from his lap
before continuing his writing, and awaiting a tool at a ski counter to sort out his own adjustments as he
watches the worker sit and smoke. Buckley summarizes his experiences to share his opinion on why
people, including himself, choose to shy away from the confrontation that is typically brought on by a
simple complaint. But what are the true reasons for one s inability to complain in even the simplest of
situations? William F. Buckley argues the answer to his own titled question within his essay being
that; one: most people are far too reluctant to create negative attention to themselves; two: people
always expect that someone else will speak up; and three: even if one has voiced their concern for a
resolve more often than not the resolve is ignored or does not fall in line with the normal flow of
things. The first experience Buckley shares with his readers is his commute on an overly crowded
train where the temperature was exceedingly hot for the bulk of passengers. He witnessed his own
transformation by losing his overcoat, then his jacket, and later his tie only to notice that the car was
flecked with the white shirts of the passengers (7). He recounts his thoughts as to why he or anyone
else didn t just let the conductor know their discomfort and attributed this discomfort to a rational
explanation of an overstocked furnace, valve turned too high, or a maladjusted thermostat (29). All of
these reasons

Jordan Virtues
Rivera I will assert that virtue is the happy, magnificent, and content median between the two vices.
This type of happiness is our highest objective in life. Moreover, all human activities aim at some end
that we consider good. According to Aristotle, virtue is a disposition to behave in the right manner and
as a mean between extremes of deficiency and excess, which are called vices. Individuals learn moral
virtue primarily through habit and practice. Moreover, Aristotle does not say that we should aim for
happiness, but rather that we do aim at happiness. Most individuals think of happiness as physical
pleasure or honor, but this is because they have an imperfect view of the good life. A question of high
significance in any investigation of ethics is how we can teach people to be good. Furthermore,
Aristotle makes it clear that virtue cannot be taught in a classroom or by means of argumentation.
Virtue is taught through consistent practice, which begins at a young age: Our discussion will be

A Worn Path By Eudora Welty Essay
A Worn Path (1940) On an everyday basis people are encountering challenges that stand in their way
of them achieving their set goals. However, with determination the vast majority will accomplish the
mission they have set out to conquer. In the short story A Worn Path written by Eudora Welty in 1940,
Phoenix Jackson, the main character has a mission in which she is trying to complete when she is
faced with many challenges. This short story is centered on the challenges that are faced by an elderly
African American grandmother as she continues on her long journey from the secluded pinewoods
into the town nearby of Natchez. She has one intention in mind when she begins, to get a medicine for
her chronically ill grandson no matter what the challenges are that she encounters. The one way to
convey this idea to the readers is with the literary use of theme. Some of the major themes in Eudora
Welty s short story is the determination that Jackson conveys with her actions, the aspect of agism,
and racism. The most important theme in this story is the emotional and spiritual strength of Jackson
which enables her to continue her journey. For the past seventy years many scholars have been trying
to critically interpret the short story written by Welty. A tale of an elderly black women, Phoenix

Theme Of Havisham In Great Expectations
In such a society is placed our character under study Estella Havisham. As we can see, she is a total
opposite of the ideal Victorian woman. This novel depicts Estella s struggling against the rigid social
structures divided by class and gender. She appears in the novel as an open challenge, danger and
threat to the patriarchal structure of the Victorian society. In Great Expectations Charles Dickens
exhibits an altogether different perspective of Victorian women. Rising above class lines, Dickens
gives capable representations of ascertaining and manipulative women, with no indication of the
delicate quality and limit for sensitivity that describes the perfect Victorian woman. The Victorian
ideals for a woman were so staunch that they were retaliated in the shape of characters like Estella
who become tools of revenge upon men who are a part of this patriarchal system. As we have already
discussed, Miss Havisham played a big role in the formation of Estella. Miss Havisham was a victim
of the society of men and as she was exploited by a man, feelings of revenge were aroused in Miss
Havisham. It can also be put this way that Miss Havisham is the representative of all the Victorian
women who were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Problem Of Homeless Women
Research shows the number of homelessness women have steadily increases over the past decade .In
the 1960s, only 3% of the homeless population were women and there was a perception that homeless
women were prostitutes as a result women need were not recognised by society (Marcus, 2014).
However, the 1970s when homelessness remerge as a political issues due to the increased number of
homeless it was harder for the society to ignore. Although most of homeless most were still men,
among them were younger single women, from impoverish background and from racial minority
(Smith and Gilford, see Fitzpatrick, Peter Kemp and Klinker, 2010). Moreover by 1980s many more
women were deinstitutionalized form mental health institutions without sufficient housing or social
support (Ravenhill, 2008) as a result of this the rate of women homelessness escalated. Subsequently,
during the period of 2005 to 2006 data out of the 164, 000 household that were accepted as homeless,
39% contained pregnant woman or women with minor children. This rate have risen significantly, in
2009 to 2010 an increase of 45% were female headed household with their children and 12% were
single women, and 19% were couples with dependent children (Homeless Link, 2015),

The Influence Of Classism
In the novel Pride and Prejudice the author, Jane Austen, employs sarcasm coupled with irony and
characterization in a tantalizing expose that brings to light the unreasonable societal expectations and
behaviors of the 19th century and the influence of classism in the search for matrimony. Austen uses
an intriguing intertwining of the three stand out elements in her novel. Characterization is mixed with
implicit doses of irony and sarcasm to accurately portray different characters as representations of
aspects in society during the 19th century. The antagonist to Elizabeth is presented in chapter 8, with
the character Miss Bingley. While Elizabeth takes societal standards lightly, Miss Bingley does not.

Classism was a rampant part of society during the time period, and its injustices prevailed despite the
rotten practices it induced. Classism influenced heavily into the search for matrimony, and regardless
of Elizabeth s beliefs about marrying for love rather than money, when she eventually found love
interest those around her tried to intimidate her out of marrying Mr. Darcy. The main culprit was Lady
Catherine, Darcy s upper class aunt. Lady Catherine represents everything bad about the influence
classism has on the upper class citizens. Lady Catherine is singularly worried about maintaining a
spotless reputation and converses with Elizabeth saying You have no regard, then, for the honor and
credit of my nephew! Unfeeling, selfish girl! Do you not consider that a connection with you must
disgrace him in the eyes of everybody?...You are then resolved to have him? as to accuse her of being
greedy for ignoring the detrimental effects marrying Darcy would have on his reputation, and hers.
This vain regard for her own welfare points to exactly what Jane Austen is trying to expose, the blatant
disregard for lower classes, or even anybody within a lower class. She purposefully characterizes
Lady Catherine as the epitome of snobbish upper class attitudes. The skillful combination of these
various literary techniques come together perfectly in Jane Austen s expose of 19th century society.
She criticizes the attitudes and behaviors of that era with her satirical language and calculated
characterizations. The reader begins to grasp the social injustices of classism and the mistreatments

The Huffington Post article quotes the university s researchers only once. Dogs are able to see faces in
the images and they differentiate familiar and strange faces from each other, say the researchers. These
results indicate that dogs might have facial recognition skills, similar to humans (Becker, 2015). The
article does not provide the names of the researchers, past achievements, or their background
information that would provide a more reliable source. The commentary is also only a summarization
of the articles previous writing instead of more information to encourage a better understanding of the
experiment or results. The ScienceDaily quotes more than one source and gives further insight to the
experiment and how it can affect the future. Dogs have been cohabitating with humans for longer than
any other animal, Dilks says. They are incredibly social, not just with other members of their pack, but
across species. Understanding more about canine cognition and perception may tell us more about
social cognition and perception in general (Dilks, 2015). The article also states earlier who the person

Dangers Of Stereotyping
Dangers Of Stereotyping Emergency!!!! Danger is near!! Dangers of stereotyping to be exact. There
are 3 topics for my reasoning as stereotyping is a dangerous social bias. The three topics that are going

topics will show my argument about stereotyping. The first topic that is going to be shown is things

Winslow Homer Research Paper
Realism began to dominate art around the 19th century and peaked toward the middle of the century.
Realism desired precise depictions of the visual without any alteration. This change caused a dramatic
change in art and artist. Winslow Homer was born in 1836 and died in 1910 and was an american
realist. Homer was a self taught artist, whom lived with his family in Cambridge. Quickly, he started
off his career as a printmaker in Boston and afterwards in New York when Homer moved there. Soon
the Civil War broke loose and so it affected Homer s art. Diligently, throughout the war Homer
concentrated on painting. In 1865, Homer reaped the rewards of his work and was elected to the
National Academy of Design. In 1866 after the war, Homer traveled to France preferring the Vibrant
landscapes than his city life in New York although his remained unchanged. In 1872 Homer created a
masterpiece named Snap the Whip. It was the belief that the children were America s embodiments of
innocents and their future. The painting has vibrant colors with masterful precision. The painting

Boptany Importance Of Science
Botany, the science of the vegetable kingdom, is one of the most attractive, most useful, and most
extensive departments of human knowledge. It is, above every other, the science of beauty, stated
Joseph Paxton, a gardener and member of the British Parliament in the nineteenth century (Paxton
1).Why is botany such a enjoyable profession? The many activities you can attend such as growing
and trimming are both easy ways to make money ,but take a lot of responsibility. As one prepares for a
future in the field of Biology, one must consider the historical background, the educational
requirements, the work environment, the duties and responsibilities, wages and benefits, and the
potential for advancement of Botany.
Botany began near the Neolithic Period but wasn t scientifically studied until the 1700 s. During the
Neolithic Period they had the knowledge of farming and soon began growing their own crops. Fruits
and vegetables have been an important part of social development since the beginning of time. In
Ancient Greece and Rome philosophers urged more learning in sciences, they began learning more
about plants. The philosopher Theophrastus was known as The Father of Botany because of two
seminal works that were used for the next 1500 years and survive today (Mason). For the next 1500
years, there would be little development and most botanical studies were limited to places of learning
such as universities and monasteries (Mason). The history of Botany is very diverse

Tomboy: A Real Phenomenon or a Social Construct I was adopted at the age of 13. I was so consumed
to make my new family happy that I did everything I could to try and make them happy. One thing
that they seemed especially involved in was the game of hockey. Both of my brothers played it and so
did my little sister. All of them had started by the time they turned three. So, when I joined the family,
I also joined them in their love for the sport. Despite being years behind in experience with other kids
my age, I quickly picked up on the game (thanks to my brothers and dad). It wasn t until freshman
year that things begin to get complicated. There was no girl s hockey team, so being stubborn like I
am, I joined the boys high school hockey team.

John F Kennedy s Ethos Pathos Logos
John F Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States in 1961 and was unfortunately
assassinated in 1963. Most Americans considered him to be one of the greatest presidents we had, and
admired his humor. In September of 1962 he made a speech called, Going to the Moon at a university
in Texas to support NASA in launching people on the moon for the first time ever in history. His
speech illustrates many examples of rhetorical strategies, one being repetition. This is very common to
find and comes up frequently. The second example of rhetoric used is pathos and the last is
connotative diction. Small doses of repetition are scattered throughout Kennedy s speech. In the fourth
paragraph, the word despite is repeated to emphasize that even though there are scientists still ... Show

He explains that even though it s a challenge, it will aid our power in the world. Pathos is a form of
expression and a feeling of pity or compassion. He uses it at the beginning of his speech, We meet at a
college noted for knowledge, in a city noted for progress, in a State noted for strength, and we stand in
need of all three, for we meet in an hour of change and challenge, in a decade of hope and fear, in an
age of both knowledge and ignorance. The greater our knowledge increases, the greater our ignorance
unfolds (1). In this quote, John F. Kennedy describes where he is, to try and influence his audience
about how this trip to the moon is much needed and well deserved. The next example of pathos could
also be repetition. This is a breathtaking pace, and such a pace cannot help but create new ills as it
dispels old, new ignorance, new problems, new dangers. Surely the opening vistas of space promise
high costs and hardships, as well as high reward (1). It is depicted from this quote that Kennedy feels

The United States Enforced Laws About Having Kids
How would most people feel if the United States enforced laws about having kids? If we as a society
don t change either how we live or the laws involving children, we will have generations of people
using Uncle Sam as a crutch. The rate of births among women ages 15 to 44 increased by 1% from
2013 to 2014, the first increase since 2007, which might be a trend that if we don t fix this problem
soon so many more might grow up that way. One in five children receives food stamps or some kind
of aid so says the census bureau. Mandatory laws on having children should be enforced in the United
States because of the high amount of government supported children, and the number of questionable
parent(s). First reason, the number of government supported children is enormous, and with a
projected baby boom on its way after the previous recession. To fix that the government could put in
place laws restricting the number of children a family can have. The government could either restrict a
family s number of children based on total income. As in low class to middle low class families have
one or two children. Where at the same time the high class, and middle high class families might have
two to four children. Or the government could put in a law for everyone. They could much like china
did and only allow one child to be born. Or base it off of the number of parents raising the children.

American Expansion
In the 19th century, America experienced an industrial revolution that changed its whole ideology of
expansion. America experienced at huge growth in industry after the civil war. During the Gilded Age
huge companies sprouted and new business were formed. The United States was quickly becoming a
huge financial heaven for companies. Companies during that era started to invest in foreign countries.
This led them to have more connections with foreign countries. The industries would mostly want the
resources and to have a market in each country. The U.S. colonized territories such as Philippines,
Hawaii, and Latin America for their resources. These countries were specially targeted for the benefits

United States is enriched with lots of resources such as coal, oil, and iron but that wasn t enough for
big industries. Companies looked to gain more resources and expand their markets. Underdeveloped
countries in Latin America and Southeast Asia had valuable resources. Hawaii had many sugar fields,
the Philippines would be used as a coaling station, and in Central America the canal was built to cut
the distance to travel around South America.
Late in the 19th century, the U.S. would go to war with Spain over the mistreatment of Cuba over
other reasons. The U.S. found out that the Spanish was holding Cubans in concentration camps which
gave the U.S. have a reason to liberate Cuba from Spain. Also, American business had fifty million
invested in Cuba and didn t feel it was safe until America was directly involved with Cuba. The
Spanish American war was the event needed most for the U.S. to start expanding its reign. The

American Indian Political Activism Essay
American Indian political activism played a tremendous role throughout history, which has laid the
foundation for how Indians are being treated with more respect in today s society. In 1961, about the
same time as the meeting in Chicago, the National Indian Youth Council (NIYC) was founded
(Hudson). The goal of the NIYC was to protest against civil disobedience and to bring awareness to
Indian heritage (Document of Indian Militancy, pg. 527). To promote the NIYC, young Indians would
speak at colleges, important national organization meetings and hearings of government agencies
(Document of Indian Militancy, pg. 527). This group of activists served as a new generation that was

Many Indians resorted to alcohol, believing that a beer could solve their problems, He thought one
more beer could save the world. One more beer and every chair would be comfortable, one more beer
and the light bulb in the bathroom would never burn out (The Lone Ranger and Tonto First Fight in
Heaven, pg. 88). The goal of AIM was to help Indians get back on their feet and become successful
(Hudson). To achieve their goal of helping their fellow citizens, AIM would help other Indians find
jobs and get an education (Hudson). AIM simply wanted change for urban Indians by helping in
anyway possible (Hudson). In addition to helping other Native Americans, AIM was also concerned
with police abuse, specifically in Minneapolis (Hudson). In 1968, AIM created the Indian Patrol,
which would watch ghettos and listen to police calls (Hudson). If the Indian Patrol saw police being
unjust, they would take pictures to serve as evidence (Hudson). In 1969, AIM went to patrol Alcatraz
Island (Hudson). The members along side the NIYC were there to defend their culture (Hudson).
Through all of their efforts and actions, the outcome of AIM was quite successful. AIM was able to
expand from being local to national, which was a great source for many Native Americans. In 1944
the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) was established (Hudson). The

Roman Catholic Reformation
When comparing the Roman Catholic Reformation with the Protestant Reformation that share many
common grounds; however, they differ as well. These two sets of worship are both among
Christianity. Catholic is a term that arose mainly to contrast the grouping in relation with the
protestant reformers. However, the word catholic is as old as Christianity itself as it has been used as
early as 107 AD to describe a place of worship wherever there is Jesus Christ (admin) . While
Protestant may be another part of Christianity it may be slightly different. Protestants are Christians
who believe in the faith called Protestantism. This grouping within Christianity arose as a result of the
reformation that started in the 16th century in Germany (admin).

Gibbons Book Report
In this monograph The Gibbons of Khao Yai, Thad Q Bartlett records all of his own notes about the
small apes, also known as the gibbons, in their own natural habitat in the national park of Khao Yai,
Thailand. Before he wrote this book, primatologists had hypothesized about a correlation between
territoriality and monogamy in the gibbons and believed that it was due to the small fruiting trees and
figs. Bartlett had taken an interest in the gibbons, and made a goal to contradict this hypothesis by
studying the gibbons up close, and better understand how the availability of food affected their
behaviors and ecology. Bartlett began his field study by focusing on the fauna and environment that
they live in, which was the Mo Singto study area. Gibbons are known as mostly frugivorous primates,
as they mainly thrive on figs and leaves, but Bartlett noted that gibbons could also supplement
themselves with insects and leaves, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gibbons had shown to have friendly encounters with other gibbons when other resources like
insects, leaves and ripe fruit were available. Although, when the fruit was scarce, they displayed more
territorial tendencies, and the encounters became more hostile and agonistic. These observations are
what led to the suggestion of resource defense being an important aspect of territoriality in gibbons
(pg. 119). Regarding the uniqueness of their monogamous lifestyle, Bartlett mainly referred to the
predictions from other primatologists about how gibbons live in their small groups. He referred to
Wright s predictions in particular about how the gibbons created their own small groups for the sake
of having enough food resources. Eventually, Bartlett came to his own conclusion in that the gibbons
monogamy were likely out of a dietary preference for rare but stable resources (Bartlett: ??? pg.

Culture Shock Is Real, Ethnic Or Age Group
Culture can be defined as the characteristics of a particular social, ethnic or age group. Every country
in the world has it s own culture and beliefs that holds the nation together. Sociologists define society
as the people who interact in such a way as to share a common culture. The cultural bond may be
ethnic or racial, based on gender, or due to shared beliefs, values, and activities. Culture is an
organized system because it ties many parts together that are interconnected to all function as one but
almost every nation. The United States and Nigeria are no exceptions to having in a culture, however,
the people in these countries sometimes base their knowledge of each other solely on what is shown in
the media. Culture shock is real and this essay covers some of Nigeria s belief as a country, how I
made assumptions about America based on what I saw on television, and the differences between
these two unique countries.
The United States media especially portrays Africa as a country instead of a continent, they show
malnourished children on television begging for food to eat and water to drink. This image gives
everyone who is watching a false sense of how great Africa is. Robert Moore s article racism in the
English Language explains that often using words like natives to describe Africans can be degrading
and offensive. Africa is the second largest continent that is made up of 54 unique countries, each

Mount St. Helens Research Paper
On the morning of May 18, 1980, the United States of America experienced its deadliest and most
destructive volcanic eruption in history. Briefly succeeding a magnitude 5.1 earthquake, an enormous
slab of Mount St. Helens northern flank collapsed in a massive debris avalanche. This landslide was
the largest to transpire on Earth in recorded history and caused the volcanoes magma system to
depressurize. With the cap of the mountain removed, superheated gases and rock fragments blasted
through the side of the mountain (USDA, 2005). The lateral blast accelerated at speeds of 480 km per
hour and reached temperatures of 350 °C, creating an immense area of leveled and scorched forestry.

Helens will occur. The main issue is that it is impossible to prevent it, or stop it once an eruption has
begun. However, procedures can be established to reduce the lives lost or damage to property should a
future event occur. Technology for monitoring volcanoes has advanced dramatically over the last 36
years. The seismometers used in 1980 are prehistoric compared to todays equipment. Nowadays,
seismometers can hear low frequency indications of fluid moving deep below the Earth s surface
(Galvin, 2007). Also, scientists with the use of aircrafts with geochemistry advancements can monitor
and detect gases rising from volcanos summits. Remote monitoring equipment is used 24 hours a day
and 365 days a year by the USGS (USGS, 2014). With that regard, the success of a monitoring system
depends primarily on how fast detection occurs and the time needed to notify public if evacuation s
required. Although, monitoring might detect possible eruption but the magnitude of an eruption is still
difficult to determine (Crandell and Mullineaux,

Biological And Trait Perspectives On The Human Personality
Biological and Trait Perspectives and Explanations of Neuroticism Two perspectives on the human
personality will be explained in the following two sections. The first perspective is the biological
perspective of personality. This perspective focuses largely on the internal genetic makeup of an
individual and the effects this has on his or her personality. The biological perspective is strongly
based on other scientific fields in laboratory or clinical conditions such as biology and biochemistry.
The biological perspective involves intricate and often time consuming scientific experiments to test
for personality traits and correlations. Evolution is sometimes also mentioned within the biological
perspective in sociobiology. The structure and function of the brain (neurobiology) is also central to
the biological theory of personality. The second perspective to be mentioned is the trait perspective of
personality. According to Costa and McCrae, examination of the trait theory of personality is required
for someone to make sense of the human personality (1998). Two ideas are central to the trait
perspective of personality: A person s behaviors, contemplations, and emotions are relatively stable in
varying situations and with time, and each individual personality is different from all other
personalities (Carver Sheier, 2012). The trait perspective asserts that personalities are made up of
various traits that vary in degrees of strength. These traits are exemplified on a

  • 2. Slave Trade in 1807 Essay In order to ascertain how significant beliefs and ideologies were in contributing to the abolition of the slave trade in 1807, and the eventual abolition of slavery in 1833, this assignment will consider moral, political, economic and religious factors which culminated into these two distinct reforms. It will explore the influence of Enlightenment; the impact of non conformists; the role of individuals and resistance from slaves themselves. Additionally, it will look at the attitudes concerning the Atlantic slave trade and slavery from different perspectives. Justifications which were gleaned from the Bible, and from Antiquity, regarding the differences between white and black people meant that for much of the eighteenth century enslaving ... In addition, it argues that slavery is not necessary for the success of colonies and that abolition would not be detrimental to colonies rather benefit it in the long run. This document demonstrates how ideas about slavery were surfacing in the mid eighteenth century. Protestant Evangelicalism was powered by enlightened thinking. As DVD 2 highlights, missionaries such as William Knibb, were influential in promoting Christianity. Slavery obstructed this process. William Wilberforce, an evangelical member of parliament featured prominently in the DVD, his work towards the gradual emancipation was significant, however the interview does point out that the programme omits profound individuals such as Thomas Clarkson, who was a central leader of the anti slavery movement.(DVD 2) An anti slavery sentiment had developed and sects emerged from Evangelicalism. Despite disagreements on certain doctrinal topics, there was a general consensus between the sects that all men were equal before God, equal in sin and their potential for redemption. This was particularly significant within the anti slavery movement as it highlighted slavery as problematic and obstructive towards Christian morals. In 1787, A committee united individuals from different classes in society, such as tradesmen and upper class evangelicals. This Committee met in London with the purpose of establishing A Society for effecting the abolition of the slave trade This is significant as it highlights that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The year 1984 was when Seasonal Affective Disorder first became known in a research paper at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Seasonal Affective Disorder mainly affects people in the winter season, but can also affect people during the summer seasons. Seasonal Affective Disorder is best understood as a form of depression that affects people in the winter and, less commonly, in the summer. This paper will help provide a better understanding of S.A.D. and how it affects people living in Arctic climates. Seasonal affective disorder is a form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McMahon , et al, 2014). Another factor that can play into S.A.D. is melatonin, which helps with sleep and wake cycles. Rosenthal, et al, notes how the pineal gland, the gland that produces melatonin, will react to dark surroundings with drowsiness that can lead people to being lethargic (as cited in Melrose, 2015). When melatonin increases and serotonin decreases, the offset of the proteins can cause circadian rhythms to be disrupted, which is the bodies 24 hour clock. Researcher Melrose writes that ...circadian rhythms respond to the rhythmic light dark changes that occur daily and throughout each of the seasons. (2015). People with S.A.D. disorder normally find that their circadian rhythms are off beat and timed differently with day lengths, for example feeling tired in the middle of the day while being wide awake or feeling wide awake when it would normally be time to sleep. Treatments that follow with the diagnose of Seasonal Affective Disorder are antidepressant medications, light therapy, vitamin D and counseling. Cheung, et al, (as cited in Melrose, 2015) reports their findings with the antidepressant, fluoxetine and discovered that the medicine was just as effective as light therapy. Light therapy is typically used in the mornings to help with circadian rhythms to help set the persons clock . Light therapy usually consists of people sitting in front of ... The research will lead to the recommendation of building a bicycle rental transportation system in Vancouver. Introduction From today to the future year 2030, it is appropriate to estimate that Vancouver population will increase by more than one million. Vancouver public transportation will hardly bear the pressure due to the largely increase in population. Other than population pressure, the public transportation is criticised by huge carbon emissions as well. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is foresee that in next 10 years, more and more people do not take the bus at peak times, but by bike to avoid the crowds. Our Public bicycle system is one of remote circulation model, the more the stations, the more people use it. Thus, the revenue will increase. However, building station net works is the most difficult problem the development of public bike system. If government will not sponsors this program, a department or enterprise alone to establish rent houses is difficult to reach the economical of scale. Therefore, the new business system will end result of high unsustainable costs. For solving this problem, we should seek the cooperation from Vancouver government. Our management team should formed by the Municipal Construction Commission, Public Transport Group and all other relevant units. Urban management, traffic police, public transportation and communities together selected stations address. All stations will located in sidewalks, parking lots, bus stations and other public areas at a very low rent cost or even free.As the bicycle becoming an important component of urban public transport part, the market orient mode will difficult to go through. • 6. 8 Factors That Can Influence The Potential On Postsynaptic... 1. The following are 8 factors that can influence the potential on the postsynaptic membrane: (a) Excitatory Postsynaptic Potentials (EPSPs): EPSPs increase the postsynaptic neuron s likelihood to generate an action potential by generating a local depolarization. EPSPs result from excitatory stimuli, such as an excitatory neurotransmitter (Glutamate) released by the presynaptic neuron. Excitatory stimuli will bind and open ligand gated Na+ channels, allowing Na+ ions to move inside a cell down their concentration gradient. The influx of Na+ ions will cause a local depolarization at the postsynaptic membrane, which if summated can reach threshold and fire an action potential. (b) Inhibitory Postsynaptic Potentials (IPSPs): EPSPs decrease the postsynaptic neuron s likelihood to generate an action potential by generating a local hyperpolarization. EPSPs result from inhibitory stimuli such as an inhibitory neurotransmitter (GABA) released by the presynaptic neuron. Inhibitory stimuli can bind and open ligand gated K+ channels and Cl channels, allowing K+ ions to move out of a cell and allowing Cl ions to move into a cell down their concentration gradient. The influx of Cl ions and the outflux of K+ ions causes a local hyperpolarization at the postsynaptic membrane, which reduces the postsynaptic neuron s probability to firing an action potential. (c) Temporal Summation: The presynaptic neuron can influence the postsynaptic neuron by changing the frequency of the stimulus. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, not all of the worlds problems can be solved directly through experiments and equations. Philosophy and theories are sometimes accepted as truth because there is no other explanation for a mind boggling questions. Some philosophers or Scientists were even deemed blasphemous through their beliefs or teachings. Two men, born and raised in religious and still skeptic times were René Descartes and Charles Darwin who, with their most infamous books, The Mediation and the Origin of Species would create chaos in the minds of religious believers at the time but, in the long run, would be considered to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To resolve this, he decides to discard all his former beliefs and conceptions, reconstruct his knowledge, and only acknowledging information as true only if the statements are unquestionably true. He believed that he could be dreaming and at any moment wake up. Perhaps God or some evil entity could be deceiving him and so he concluded that everything he once thought was real was obtained through the senses and dismissing his own sanity was the only way to obtain concrete truth. Darwin also had to accept Rene Descartes beliefs in some perspective as well. Charles Darwin, as mentioned above, was also raised in a religious home and before his discoveries, he was also a man of God. Though, as his discoveries overtook his religious perspective, he leaned more towards the scientific side of things and began to reject his previous beliefs. Thus, he had to, somewhat, also take everything that he had thought before as false, unless factual truth could prove otherwise. Only then could he take in his findings as truth, which he did so. He rejected his previous faith and accepted his discoveries as absolute truth sense there was concrete proof to prove his theory correct. When Descartes reasoned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A change is define as followed; Any alteration to a contract permitted by the Changes clause of a contract. (Nash, Scooner, O Brien, 2007). Most construction contracts contain a clause governing changes that allows the owner to change or modify the work required under the contract documents. (Loulakis Santiago, 2001). When clause mentioned above is included in the contractor it means the contractor is typically required to perform the change. Now a cardinal change is considered a major change to the contract. Our judgement assumes a dividend cut from FPL. However, this dividend cut would be a precise strategic choice rather than one dictated by financing difficulties. These high prices are unlikely to win many new customers if retail wheeling is introduced. Unfortunately for FPL, they also have some of the highest costs (per KWH) in the industry, which means any reduction in prices will only see margin compression and lower their profitability further. Lowering costs will be difficult for FPL. Since James Broadhead took over as CEO his focus on cost reduction and quality maintenance have led FPL to achieve record results. Buckley created an essay in 1961 capturing the reluctance of todays society to complain about the things that things that are irksome. He divulges his opinion on why Americans are so unwilling to share their opinion on matters that are concerning to them irrespective of how trivial they may seem, or how enlarged the situation may be. Buckley describes several accounts in his essay from the temperature on a train not being the ideal setting, the strains of having to deal with a blurry picture at the movies, and the failures of a waitress to respond to his needs of more milk with his breakfast. He also speaks about having to take an airline attendances word as only script while he waits for the removal of his tray from his lap before continuing his writing, and awaiting a tool at a ski counter to sort out his own adjustments as he watches the worker sit and smoke. Buckley summarizes his experiences to share his opinion on why people, including himself, choose to shy away from the confrontation that is typically brought on by a simple complaint. But what are the true reasons for one s inability to complain in even the simplest of situations? William F. Buckley argues the answer to his own titled question within his essay being that; one: most people are far too reluctant to create negative attention to themselves; two: people always expect that someone else will speak up; and three: even if one has voiced their concern for a resolve more often than not the resolve is ignored or does not fall in line with the normal flow of things. The first experience Buckley shares with his readers is his commute on an overly crowded train where the temperature was exceedingly hot for the bulk of passengers. He witnessed his own transformation by losing his overcoat, then his jacket, and later his tie only to notice that the car was flecked with the white shirts of the passengers (7). He recounts his thoughts as to why he or anyone else didn t just let the conductor know their discomfort and attributed this discomfort to a rational explanation of an overstocked furnace, valve turned too high, or a maladjusted thermostat (29). Moreover, all human activities aim at some end that we consider good. According to Aristotle, virtue is a disposition to behave in the right manner and as a mean between extremes of deficiency and excess, which are called vices. Individuals learn moral virtue primarily through habit and practice. Moreover, Aristotle does not say that we should aim for happiness, but rather that we do aim at happiness. Most individuals think of happiness as physical pleasure or honor, but this is because they have an imperfect view of the good life. A question of high significance in any investigation of ethics is how we can teach people to be good. Furthermore, Aristotle makes it clear that virtue cannot be taught in a classroom or by means of argumentation. This novel depicts Estella s struggling against the rigid social structures divided by class and gender. She appears in the novel as an open challenge, danger and threat to the patriarchal structure of the Victorian society. In Great Expectations Charles Dickens exhibits an altogether different perspective of Victorian women. Rising above class lines, Dickens gives capable representations of ascertaining and manipulative women, with no indication of the delicate quality and limit for sensitivity that describes the perfect Victorian woman. The Victorian ideals for a woman were so staunch that they were retaliated in the shape of characters like Estella who become tools of revenge upon men who are a part of this patriarchal system. As we have already discussed, Miss Havisham played a big role in the formation of Estella. In 1968, AIM created the Indian Patrol, which would watch ghettos and listen to police calls (Hudson). If the Indian Patrol saw police being unjust, they would take pictures to serve as evidence (Hudson). In 1969, AIM went to patrol Alcatraz Island (Hudson). The members along side the NIYC were there to defend their culture (Hudson). Through all of their efforts and actions, the outcome of AIM was quite successful. AIM was able to expand from being local to national, which was a great source for many Native Americans. In 1944 the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) was established (Hudson). The ... • 34. Gibbons Book Report In this monograph The Gibbons of Khao Yai, Thad Q Bartlett records all of his own notes about the small apes, also known as the gibbons, in their own natural habitat in the national park of Khao Yai, Thailand. Before he wrote this book, primatologists had hypothesized about a correlation between territoriality and monogamy in the gibbons and believed that it was due to the small fruiting trees and figs. Bartlett had taken an interest in the gibbons, and made a goal to contradict this hypothesis by studying the gibbons up close, and better understand how the availability of food affected their behaviors and ecology. Bartlett began his field study by focusing on the fauna and environment that they live in, which was the Mo Singto study area. Gibbons are known as mostly frugivorous primates, as they mainly thrive on figs and leaves, but Bartlett noted that gibbons could also supplement themselves with insects and leaves, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The gibbons had shown to have friendly encounters with other gibbons when other resources like insects, leaves and ripe fruit were available. Although, when the fruit was scarce, they displayed more territorial tendencies, and the encounters became more hostile and agonistic. These observations are what led to the suggestion of resource defense being an important aspect of territoriality in gibbons (pg. 119). Regarding the uniqueness of their monogamous lifestyle, Bartlett mainly referred to the predictions from other primatologists about how gibbons live in their small groups. He referred to Wright s predictions in particular about how the gibbons created their own small groups for the sake of having enough food resources. Eventually, Bartlett came to his own conclusion in that the gibbons monogamy were likely out of a dietary preference for rare but stable resources (Bartlett: ??? pg. ... • 36. Culture Shock Is Real, Ethnic Or Age Group Culture can be defined as the characteristics of a particular social, ethnic or age group. Every country in the world has it s own culture and beliefs that holds the nation together. Sociologists define society as the people who interact in such a way as to share a common culture. The cultural bond may be ethnic or racial, based on gender, or due to shared beliefs, values, and activities. Culture is an organized system because it ties many parts together that are interconnected to all function as one but almost every nation. The United States and Nigeria are no exceptions to having in a culture, however, the people in these countries sometimes base their knowledge of each other solely on what is shown in the media. Culture shock is real and this essay covers some of Nigeria s belief as a country, how I made assumptions about America based on what I saw on television, and the differences between these two unique countries. The United States media especially portrays Africa as a country instead of a continent, they show malnourished children on television begging for food to eat and water to drink. This image gives everyone who is watching a false sense of how great Africa is. Robert Moore s article racism in the English Language explains that often using words like natives to describe Africans can be degrading and offensive. Africa is the second largest continent that is made up of 54 unique countries, each having their own states and capitals. Even though there might be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Mount St. Helens Research Paper On the morning of May 18, 1980, the United States of America experienced its deadliest and most destructive volcanic eruption in history. Briefly succeeding a magnitude 5.1 earthquake, an enormous slab of Mount St. Helens northern flank collapsed in a massive debris avalanche. This landslide was the largest to transpire on Earth in recorded history and caused the volcanoes magma system to depressurize. With the cap of the mountain removed, superheated gases and rock fragments blasted through the side of the mountain (USDA, 2005). The lateral blast accelerated at speeds of 480 km per hour and reached temperatures of 350 °C, creating an immense area of leveled and scorched forestry. The main issue is that it is impossible to prevent it, or stop it once an eruption has begun. However, procedures can be established to reduce the lives lost or damage to property should a future event occur. Technology for monitoring volcanoes has advanced dramatically over the last 36 years. The seismometers used in 1980 are prehistoric compared to todays equipment. Nowadays, seismometers can hear low frequency indications of fluid moving deep below the Earth s surface (Galvin, 2007). Also, scientists with the use of aircrafts with geochemistry advancements can monitor and detect gases rising from volcanos summits. Remote monitoring equipment is used 24 hours a day and 365 days a year by the USGS (USGS, 2014). With that regard, the success of a monitoring system depends primarily on how fast detection occurs and the time needed to notify public if evacuation s required. Although, monitoring might detect possible eruption but the magnitude of an eruption is still difficult to determine (Crandell and Mullineaux, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Biological And Trait Perspectives On The Human Personality Biological and Trait Perspectives and Explanations of Neuroticism Two perspectives on the human personality will be explained in the following two sections. The first perspective is the biological perspective of personality. This perspective focuses largely on the internal genetic makeup of an individual and the effects this has on his or her personality. The biological perspective is strongly based on other scientific fields in laboratory or clinical conditions such as biology and biochemistry. The biological perspective involves intricate and often time consuming scientific experiments to test for personality traits and correlations. Evolution is sometimes also mentioned within the biological perspective in sociobiology. The structure and function of the brain (neurobiology) is also central to the biological theory of personality. The second perspective to be mentioned is the trait perspective of personality. According to Costa and McCrae, examination of the trait theory of personality is required for someone to make sense of the human personality (1998). Two ideas are central to the trait perspective of personality: A person s behaviors, contemplations, and emotions are relatively stable in varying situations and with time, and each individual personality is different from all other personalities (Carver Sheier, 2012). The trait perspective asserts that personalities are made up of various traits that vary in degrees of strength. These traits are exemplified on a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
