This paper surveys non-relational databases to evaluate their applicability in big data analytics, contrasting them with traditional relational database management systems (RDBMS) like Oracle and IBM’s DB2. It outlines the benefits of NoSQL databases, such as flexibility, scalability, and capability to handle structured and unstructured data, while also addressing their limitations including lack of standardized features and complex management. The study highlights various types of NoSQL databases, including key-value, column store, document, and graph databases, and compares them along with operational considerations like performance and availability.
