This paper presents a direct power control and power transfer matrix model for a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) wind energy system (WES). Control of DFIG wind turbine system is traditionally based on either stator- flux-oriented or stator-voltage-oriented vector control. The performance of Direct Power Control (DPC) and Power transfer Matrix control for the same wind speed are studied. The Power transfer matrix Control gave better results. The validity and performance of the proposed modelling and control approaches are investigated using a study system consisting of a grid connected DFIG WES. The performance of DFIG with Power Transfer Matrix and Direct Power Control (DPC) techniques are obtained through simulation. The time domain simulation of the study system using MATLAB Simulink is carried out. The results obtained in the two cases are compared.

Flux Based Sensorless Speed Sensing and Real and Reactive Power Flow Control ...ijeei-iaes
This aim of this paper is to design controller for Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) converters and MPPT for turbine and a sensor-less rotor speed estimation to maintain equilibrium in rotor speed, generator torque, and stator and rotor voltages. It is also aimed to meet desired reference real and reactive power during the turbulences like sudden change in reactive power or voltage with concurrently changing wind speed. The turbine blade angle changes with variations in wind speed and direction of wind flow and improves the coefficient of power extracted from turbine using MPPT. Rotor side converter (RSC) helps to achieve optimal real and reactive power from generator, which keeps rotor to rotate at optimal speed and to vary current flow from rotor and stator terminals. Rotor speed is estimated using stator and rotor flux estimation algorithm. Parameters like tip speed ratio; coefficient of power, stator and rotor voltage, current, real, reactive power; rotor speed and electromagnetic torque are studied using MATLAB simulation. The performance of DFIG is compared when there is in wind speed change only; alter in reactive power and variation in grid voltage individually along with variation in wind speed.

Autonomous microgrid based parallel inverters using droop controller for impr...journalBEEI
The existing microgrid has become a challenge to the sustainable energy source to provide a better quality of power to the consumer. To build a reliable and efficient microgrid, designing a droop controller for the microgrid is of utmost importance. In this paper, multiple voltage source inverters connected in parallel using an active power-frequency/reactive power-voltage droop scheme. The proposed method connected to two distributed generators local controllers, where each unit consists of a droop controller with an inner voltage-current controller and a virtual droop controller. By adding this controller to the microgrid reliability and load adaptability of an islanded system can be improved. This concept applied without any real-time communication to the microgrid. Thus, simulated using MATLAB/Simulink, the obtained results prove the effectiveness of the autonomous operation's microgrid model.
This paper presents simulation and experimental results of anti-windup PI controller to improve induction machine speed control based on direct torque control (DTC) strategy. Problems like rollover can arise in conventional PI controller due to saturation effect. In order to avoid such problems anti-windup PI controller is presented. This controller is simple for implementation in practice. The proposed anti-windup PI controller demonstrates better dynamic step changes response in speed in terms of overshoots. All simulation work was done using Simulink in the MATLAB software. The experimental results were obtained by practical implementation on a dSPACE 1104 board for a 1.5 KW induction machine. Simulation and experimental results have proven a good performance and verified the validity of the presented control strategy.
Impact of hybrid FACTS devices on the stability of the Kenyan power system IJECEIAES
Flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices are deployed for improving power system’s stability either singly or as a combination. This research investigates hybrid FACTS devices and studies their impact on voltage, small-signal and transient stability simultaneously under various system disturbances. The simulations were done using five FACTS devices-static var compensator (SVC), static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), static synchronous series compensators (SSSC), thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC) and unified power flow controller (UPFC) in MATLAB’s power system analysis toolbox (PSAT). These five devices were grouped into ten pairs and tested on Kenya’s transmission network under specific contingencies: the loss of a major generating machine and/or transmission line. The UPFC-STATCOM pair performed the best in all the three aspects under study. The settling times were 3 seconds and 3.05 seconds respectively for voltage and rotor angle improvement on the loss of a major generator at normal operation. The same pair gave settling times of 2.11 seconds and 3.12 seconds for voltage and rotor angle stability improvement respectively on the loss of a major transmission line at 140% system loading. From the study, two novel techniques were developed: A performance-based ranking system and classification for FACTS devices.
Modified T-type topology of three-phase multi-level inverter for photovoltaic...IJECEIAES
In this article, a three-phase multilevel neutral-point-clamped inverter with a modified t-type structure of switches is proposed. A pulse width modulation (PWM) scheme of the proposed inverter is also developed. The proposed topology of the multilevel inverter has the advantage of being simple, on the one hand since it does contain only semiconductors in reduced number (corresponding to the number of required voltage levels), and no other components such as switching or flying capacitors, and on the other hand, the control scheme is much simpler and more suitable for variable frequency and voltage control. The performances of this inverter are analyzed through simulations carried out in the MATLAB/Simulink environment on a threephase inverter with 9 levels. In all simulations, the proposed topology is connected with R-load or RL-load without any output filter.
In this work, we are interested in improving the performance of a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG)-based wind system, by applying a sliding mode control strategy. The objective is the regulation of the active and reactive power, also the voltage and the frequency of the signal injected into the distribution network. The model proposed for the control is based on the sliding mode technique with performance estimators. The proposed model was validated by a simulation on MATLAB/Simulink.
Optimizing of the installed capacity of hybrid renewable energy with a modifi...IJECEIAES
The lack of wind speed capacity and the emission of photons from sunlight are the problem in a hybrid system of photovoltaic (PV) panels and wind turbines. To overcome this shortcoming, the incremental conductance (IC) algorithm is applied that could control the converter work cycle and the switching of the buck boost therefore maximum efficiency of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is reached. The operation of the PV-wind hybrid system, consisting of a 100 W PV array device and a 400 W wind subsystem, 12 V/100 Ah battery energy storage and LED, the PV-wind system requires a hybrid controller for battery charging and usage and load lamp and it’s conducted in experimental setup. The experimental has shown that an average increase in power generated was 38.8% compared to a single system of PV panels or a single wind turbine sub-system. Therefore, the potential opportunities for increasing power production in the tropics wheather could be carried out and applied with this model.
Most of generators utilized in wind turbines are the Doubly-Fed Induction Generator (DFIG). Indirect matrix converter (IMC) is a candidate for substituting the traditional back-to-back converter in the future due to advantages gained by elimination of electrolytic capacitor. Starting DFIG wind turbines and synchronizing to the grid is a challenge in practice because of large inrush currents that could damage switches. Synchronizing the DFIG wind turbine controlled by the IMC is presented in this paper. Also, maximum power point tracking algorithm performance of this configuration is examined. A laboratory scale prototype of the proposed configuration is built. Experimental results have confirmed effectiveness of this configuration.
Dynamic Modeling, Control and Simulation of a Wind and PV Hybrid System for G...IJERA Editor
This paper proposes a dynamic modeling and control strategy for a grid connected hybrid wind and photovoltaic (PV) energy system inter-connected to electrical grid through power electronic interface. A gearless permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) is used to capture the maximum wind energy. The PV and wind systems are connected dc-side of the voltage source inverter through a boost converter individually and maintain a fixed dc output at dc link. A proper control scheme is required to operate power converters to match up the grid connection requirements. This study considered the performance of modeled hybrid system under different case scenarios. All simulation models are developed using MATLAB/Simulink.

Study of Characteristics of DFIG Based Wind TurbineIJMTST Journal
In this paper the study of active power, reactive power, stator current, rotor current and grid voltage characteristics of doubly fed induction generator based wind turbine are studied. The pulses for the stator and rotor are applied by using a hysteresis current controller. The main drawback of wind energy conversion system is that it is highly nonlinear. To overcome this problem a fuzzy controller on rotor side and a discrete PID controller on stator side are applied. The active and reactive powers are controlled by this nonlinear strategy. The active power is maximized by these both controllers. The entire simulation is conducted on mat lab/simulink. The results obtained are satisfactory.
Wind energy has many advantages, it does not pollute and it is an inexhaustible source. However, the cost of this energy is still too high to compete with traditional fossil sources. The yield of a wind turbine depends on three parameters: the power of the wind, the turbine power curve and the ability of the generator to respond to fluctuations in the wind. Active and Reactive Power Control of a Doubly Fed Induction GeneratorIJPEDS-IAES
Wind energy has many advantages, it does not pollute and it is an inexhaustible source. However, the cost of this energy is still too high to compete with traditional fossil fuels, especially on sites less windy. The performance of a wind turbine depends on three parameters: the power of wind, the power curve of the turbine and the generator's ability to respond to wind fluctuations. This paper presents a control chain conversion based on a double-fed asynchronous machine (D.F.I.G). To improve the transient and steady state performance and the power factor of generation, a stator flux oriented vector control scheme is used in this work. The vector control structure employs conventional PI controllers for the decoupled control of the stator side active and reactive power. The whole system is modeled and simulated using Matlab/Simulink and the results are analyzed.
Control of the powerquality for a DFIG powered by multilevel inverters IJECEIAES
This paper treats the modeling, and the control of a wind power system based on a doubly fed induction generator DFIG, the stator is directly connected to the grid, while the rotor is powered by multilevel inverters. In order to get a decoupled system of controlfor an independently transits of active and reactive power, a vector control method based on stator flux orientation SFOC is considered: Direct vector control based on PI controllers. Cascaded H-bridge CHBI multilevel inverters are used in the rotor circuit to study its effect on supply power quality. All simulation models are built in MATLAB/Simulink software. Results and waveforms clearly show the effectiveness of vector control strategy. Finally, performances of the system will tested and compared for each levels of inverter.
In recent years, wind energy has become one of the most promising renewable energy sources. Various wind turbine concepts with different generator topologies have been developed to convert this abundant energy into electric power. The doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) is currently the most common type of generator used in wind farms. Usually the DFIG generator is a wound rotor induction machine, where the stator circuit is directly connected to grid while the rotor’s winding is connected to the grid via a three-phase converter. This paper describes an approach for the independent control of the active and reactive powers of the variable-speed DFIG. The simulation model including a 1.5 MW-DFIG driven by a wind turbine, a PWM back-to-back inverter and the proposed control strategy are developed and implemented using MATLAB/Simulink/SimPowerSystems environment.
This paper proposes a feedback linearization control of doubly fed induction generator based wind energy systems for improving decoupled control of the active and reactive powers stator. In order to enhance dynamic performance of the controller studied, the adopted control is reinforced by a fuzzy logic controller. This approach is designed without any model of rotor flux estimation. The difficulty of measuring of rotor flux is overcome by using high gain observer. The stability of the nonlinear observer is proved by the Lyapunov theory. Numerical simulations using MATLAB-SIMULINK shown clearly the robustness of the proposed control, particularly to the disturbance rejection and parametric variations compared with the conventional method.
Real time simulation of nonlinear generalized predictive control for wind ene...ISA Interchange
In order to make a wind power generation truly cost-effective and reliable, an advanced control techniques must be used. In this paper, we develop a new control strategy, using nonlinear generalized predictive control (NGPC) approach, for DFIG-based wind turbine. The proposed control law is based on two points: NGPC-based torque-current control loop generating the rotor reference voltage and NGPC-based speed control loop that provides the torque reference. In order to enhance the robustness of the controller, a disturbance observer is designed to estimate the aerodynamic torque which is considered as an unknown perturbation. Finally, a real-time simulation is carried out to illustrate the performance of the proposed controller.
This paper presents the modeling and simulation of wind energy Conversion System using the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG). The objectives are: to extract the maximum power of the wind speed by controlling the electromagnetic torque of the PMSG, to maintain constant the DC-link voltage despite the wind speed variations and to attain the unity power factor. In order to ensure a regulation with high performance and a good robustness against the internal and the external disturbances, a new control strategy called the Active Disturbance Rejection Control (ADRC) is used. Therefore, the Analysis and simulation of the ADRC and PI controllers are developed with MATLAB/Simulink software. The performance of these controllers is compared in term of references tracking, robustness and grid faults.

In this paper, we focus on the modeling and control of a wind power system based on a double-fed induction generator DFIG. We proposed a technique of active and reactive power control to improve the performance and dynamics of variable speed wind system. The objective of the modeling is to apply the direct and indirect vector control stator flux orientation to control independently, the active and reactive power generated doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG). The simulation results are tested and compared in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed system.
The paper proposes a complete modeling and control technique of variable speed wind turbine system (WTS) based on the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG). Two levels back-to-back converter is used to ensure the energy transfer between the DFIG rotor and the grid. The wind turbine to operate efficiently, a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm is implemented. Then, direct power control (DPC) strategy has been combined with the MPPT technique in order to guarantee the selection of the appropriate rotor voltage vectors and to minimize the active and reactive power errors. Finally, the simulation is performed by using MATLAB/simulink platform basing on 7.5KW DFIG wind generation system, and the results prove the effectiveness of our proposed control technique.
This article addresses the problem of controlling an overall wind energy conversion system (WECS) formed by a wind turbine connected to the grid via a doubly fed introduction generator (DFIG) and an AC/DC/AC converter. The main control objectives are fourfold: (i) designing an output feedback speed controller that makes the DFIG rotate at the optimal value delivered by the MPPT strategy, (ii) controlling the stator reactive power so as to be null, (iii) guaranteeing the DC-link voltage in the grid side converter to be at a given constant value, (iv) ensuring a unitary power factor. A high gain observer is synthesized, in order to provide estimated values of the mechanical variables. To achieve the control objectives, a sliding mode controller involving the mechanical observer is designed. The performance of the system configuration based on the 2MW-DFIG with the proposed controller is evaluated by a numerical simulation under a realistic wind profile using MATLAB/SIMULINK/SimPowerSystems environment.

Modeling and State Feedback Controller Design of Tubular Linear Permanent Mag...IAES-IJPEDS
In this paper a state feedback controller for tubular linear permanent magnet
synchronous motor (TLPMSM) containing two gas springs, is presented.
The proposed TLPMSM controller is used to control reciprocating motions
of TLPMSM. The analytical plant model of TLPMSM is a multi-input
multi-output (MIMO) system which is decoupled to some sub single-input
single-output (SISO) systems, then, the sub SISO systems are converted to
sub-state space models. Indeed, the TLPMSM state space model is decoupled
to some sub-state spaces, and then, the gains of state feedback are calculated
by linear quadratic regulation (LQR) method for each sub-state space
separately. The controller decreases the distortions of the waveforms.
The simulation results indicate the validity of the controller.

the field of HVDC systems in transmission lines and can be used for a

Modified Distribution Transformer for Enhancing Power Quality in Distribution...IAES-IJPEDS
The percentage of non-linear loads in the power distribution sector is increasing
day by day. Harmonics injected by these non-linear loads circulate in the delta
windings of the conventional distribution transformer thereby increasing the
temperature and losses. This reduces the efficiency and life of the transformers.
In a modified distribution transformer configuration proposed recently, called
star-star-delta_utilized configuration (YYD_utilized), the harmonics circulating
in the delta winding was utilized and the drainage power thus recovered was
used to power auxiliary loads. This paper presents the experimental studies
conducted on YYD_utilized distribution transformer. When compared to
conventional star-star, delta-star and star-star-delta transformers, the new
configuration of YYD_utilized transformer has shown considerable
improvement in transformer efficiency. The results obtained show that when
the power from the circulating harmonics is recovered and utilized, it not only
improves transformer efficiency but also improves the power factor
and reduces the harmonic distortions at the primary side of the transformer.
The results obtained also suggest the existence of maximum power point or an
optimum loading for the recovered harmonic power.
Modelling of Virtual Synchronous Converter for Grid-Inverter Synchronization ...IAES-IJPEDS
In this paper, virtual synchronous converter (VSCon) is been developed
which mimic the behavior of synchronous generator as in order to have fast
synchronization between the inverter with the grid. This synchronization is
important before can sent the power among inverter-grid connection. This
technique can also been applied at the distributed generated sources when are
connected to the local microgrids. Here, the frequency and voltage
synchronization also can be controlled at the same time some improvement
on synchronous generator mathematical model that is suitable to be
implemented into the inverter control. The whole unit of VSCon is operated
and simulated in Matlab/Simulink in order to observe all consequences
during synchronizing the voltage, frequency and phase-angle. It has been
verified by the simulation circuit where, the power converter can be
synchronized with the microrids without using a PLL unit for self
synchronization. This VSCon technique has proven that, by applying the
concept of the synchronous generator model in inverter control, it can cause
the inverter to behave as generator system, which does not required any
phase information from the grid in order to be synchronized.
Enhanced Crowbar Protection for Fault Ride through Capability of Wind Generat...IAES-IJPEDS
Due to increasing demand in power, the integration of renewable sources like
wind generation into power system is gaining much importance nowadays.
The heavy penetration of wind power into the power system leads to many
integration issues mainly due to the intermittent nature of the wind and the
desirability for variable speed operation of the generators. As the wind power
generation depends on the wind speed, its integration into the grid has
noticeable influence on the system stability and becomes an important issue
especially when a fault occurs on the grid. The protective disconnection of a
large amount of wind power during a fault will be an unacceptable
consequence and threatens the power system stability. With the increasing
use of wind turbines employing Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG)
technology, it becomes a necessity to investigate their behavior during grid
faults and support them with fault ride through capability. This paper
presents the modeling and simulation of a doubly fed induction generator
according to grid code compatibility driven by a wind turbine connected to
the grid. This paper analyses the voltage sag due to a three-phase fault in the
wind connected grid. A control strategy including a crowbar circuit has been
developed in MATLAB/SIMULINK to bypass the rotor over currents during
grid fault to enhance the fault ride through capability and to maintain system
stability. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed control
strategies in DFIG based grid connected wind turbine system.
An Improved of Multiple Harmonic Sources Identification in Distribution Syste...IAES-IJPEDS
This paper introduces an improved of multiple harmonic sources
identification that been produced by inverter loads in power system using
time-frequency distribution (TFD) analysis which is spectrogram.
The spectrogram is a very applicable method to represent signals in
time-frequency representation (TFR) and the main advantages
of spectrogram are the accuracy, speed of the algorithm and use low memory
size such that it can be computed rapidly. The identification of multiple
harmonic sources is based on the significant relationship of spectral
impedances which are the fundamental impedance (Z1) and harmonic
impedance (Zh) that extracted from TFR. To verify the accuracy of the
proposed method, MATLAB simulations carried out several unique cases
with different harmonic producing loads on IEEE 4-bus test feeder cases. It is
proven that the proposed method is superior with 100% correct identification
of multiple harmonic sources. It is envisioned that the method is very
accurate, fast and cost efficient to localize harmonic sources in distribution
system.
Performance and Energy Saving Analysis of Grid Connected Photovoltaic in West...IAES-IJPEDS
The paper presents performance and energy saving analysis of 1.25 kWp grid
connected photovoltaic system under difference weather condition in West
Sumatera. The measured data were performed during weather data that often
occur in West Sumatra i.e. sunny, overcast, raining and cloudy.
The synchronizing process successfully done even bad weather conditions
when sunlight was low automatically. Photovoltaic in average start
producing power from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM for normal or clear sky, however
under overcast, raining and cloudy weather, the PV power decreased and
disconnected earlier before sunset. During intermittent raining, overcast and
cloud covered the PV power output show an irregular profile. The PV energy
saving performed for three residential connection cases: 1300 VA, 900 VA
with subsidized and 900 VA without subsidized. The solar PV installation
have more benefits and energy saving for 1300 VA, 900 VA without
subsidized with payback period around 8.5 years. However, the 900 VA with
subsidized take longer 20.8 years, but still in PV lifespan 25 years. In the
future, household subsidies may be reduced or eliminated, the solar energy
will be viable alternative of energy resources when it can produce electricity
at a cost equivalent to utility grid PLN rate.
An Improved Constant Voltage Based MPPT Technique for PMDC MotorIAES-IJPEDS
Stand-alone photovoltaic (SAPV) systems are being used in remote areas
and are being seen as one of the promising solution in this regard. The SAPV
system as presented in the paper consists of solar PV panel, a DC-DC
converter, a controller and a PMDC motor. The current-voltage and powervoltage
characteristics being nonlinear, the SAPV system require maximum
power point techniques (MPPT) control techniques to extract maximum
power available from the PV cell. A voltage based MPPT technique which is
capable of tracking MPP has been selected because of numerous advantages
it offers such as: simple and low cost of implementation. The limitation of
constant voltage method is that its efficiency is low as the PV panel has to be
disconnected from the load for measurement of the open circuit voltage
(Voc). In the presented paper, the authors have removed this limitation by
using a pilot PV panel for measurement of Voc. A proportional-integrator (PI)
based controller is used in implementation of constant voltage MPP
technique and the modeling is done in MATLAB®/SIMULINK simulation
environment. The simulation results are presented and discussed in the paper,
the results shows that the efficiency of the system has increased.
An Adaptive Virtual Impedance Based Droop Control Scheme for Parallel Inverte...IAES-IJPEDS
This paper presents an adaptive virtual impedance based droop control
scheme for parallel inverter operation in low voltage microgrid. Because it is
essential to achieve power sharing between inverters in microgrid, various
droop control schemes have been proposed. In practice, the line impedance
between inverters and the point of common coupling (PCC) in microgrid are
not always equal. This imbalance in line impedance often results in a reactive
power mismatch among inverters. This problem has been solved by
introducing a virtual impedance loop in the conventional droop control
scheme. However, the reactive power sharing performance of this method is
still deteriorated when the line impedances change during operation. To
overcome such a problem, a new control scheme that is based on a virtual
impedance loop and an impedance estimation scheme is proposed.
To monitor the changes in line impedances, the impedance estimator is
implemented by using the output voltages and currents of inverters as well as
the voltages at the PCC. To compensate for the reactive power mismatch due
to the line impedance changes, the estimated line impedance is fed to the
virtual impedance loop in which it adjusts the virtual impedance value.
Comparative simulation results with the conventional ones verify the
effectiveness of the proposed adaptive virtual impedance based droop control
scheme.
Open-Switch Fault-Tolerant Control of Power Converters in a Grid-Connected Ph...IAES-IJPEDS
This paper presents the study of an open switch fault tolerant control of a
grid-connected photovoltaic system. The studied system is based on the
classical DC-DC boost converter and a bidirectional 6-pulse DC-AC
converter. The objective is to provide an open-switch fault detection method
and fault-tolerant control for both of boost converter and grid-side converter
(GSC) in a grid-connected photovoltaic system. A fast fault detection method
and a reliable fault-tolerant topology are required to ensure continuity of
service, and achieve a faster corrective maintenance. In this work, the mean
value of the error voltages is used as fault indicator for the GSC, while, for
the boost converter the inductor current form is used as fault indicator. The
fault-tolerant topology was achieved by adding one redundant switch to the
boost converter, and by adding one redundant leg to the GSC. The results of
the fault tolerant control are presented and discussed to validate the proposed
approach under different scenarios and different solar irradiances.

embedded within the X-shaped LC impedance network, due to this EZSI has
the added advantage of inherent source filtering capability, this can be
achieved without any extra passive filter. EZSI can produce the AC output
voltage which is greater than the DC link voltage. EZSI system also provides
ride-through capability under voltage sags. In this paper the performance of
space vector modulated EZSI fed Induction Motor Drive is compared with
sinusoidal PWM controlled EZSI fed Drive system. The PV powered EZSI
fed three phase Induction Motor System is designed, modeled and simulated
using MAT LAB-SIMULINK and the corresponding results are presented.
This drive system has advantages like voltage boosting ability and reduced
harmonic content.
Single-Phase Multilevel Inverter with Simpler Basic Unit Cells for Photovolta...IAES-IJPEDS
This paper presents a single-phase multilevel inverter (MLI) with simpler
basic unit cells. The proposed MLI is able to operate in two modes, i.e.
charge mode to charge the batteries, and inverter mode to supply AC power
to load, and therefore, it is inherently suitable for photovoltaic (PV) power
generation applications. The proposed MLI requires lower number of power
MOSFETs and gate driver units, which will translate into higher cost saving
and better system reliability. The power MOSFETs in the basic unit cells
and H-bridge module are switched at near fundamental frequency, i.e. 100
Hz and 50 Hz, respectively, resulting in lower switching losses. For low total
harmonic distortion (THD) operation, a deep scanning method is employed
to calculate the switching angles of the MLI. The lowest THD obtained is
8.91% at modulation index of 0.82. The performance of the proposed MLI
(9-level) has been simulated and evaluated experimentally. The simulation
and experimental results are in good agreement and this confirms that the
proposed MLI is able to produce an AC output voltage with low THD.

a new approach to reduce the DC inrush current by employing modified
Z-source inverter in a Adjustable Speed Drive system. The operating
principles, design procedure and simulation results are shown and compared
with the conventional Z-Source inverter.

Courier management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
It is now-a-days very important for the people to send or receive articles like imported furniture, electronic items, gifts, business goods and the like. People depend vastly on different transport systems which mostly use the manual way of receiving and delivering the articles. There is no way to track the articles till they are received and there is no way to let the customer know what happened in transit, once he booked some articles. In such a situation, we need a system which completely computerizes the cargo activities including time to time tracking of the articles sent. This need is fulfilled by Courier Management System software which is online software for the cargo management people that enables them to receive the goods from a source and send them to a required destination and track their status from time to time.
Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

Many different structure and control algorithm can be used for control of power converter. In this
paper, decouple PI control of output active and reactive power to improve dynamic behavior of wind turbine
which is one of the most common control techniques is presented. But due to uncertainty about the exact
model and behavior of some parameters such as wind, wind turbine, etc and also parameters values
differences during operation because of temperature, events or unpredictable wind speed, tuning of PI
parameters is one of the main problems in this control method. Based on the analysis, fuzzy logic controller
has been designed to improve the dynamic performance of DFIG.
In fuzzy logic control there is no need of a detailed mathematical model of the system and just using
the knowledge of the total operation and behavior of system is enough in designing the controller. The
performance of PI control is compared with that of fuzzy logic controller and it is investigated that the
dynamic performance of fuzzy logic controller is quite good in comparison with PI controller.
In this paper, the dynamic performance of DFIG under different fault conditions is investigated.
2. THE SAMPLE TEST SYSTEM
Sample test system is shown in Figure 1. It consists of three main feeders, two DG units and five
local loads. The two DG units are a DFIG and a synchronous generator. In the proposed system, different
cases of abnormal conditions are considered, when there is a single phase line to ground fault near DFIG, a
single phase line to ground fault on the grid and three phase line to ground fault near DFIG etc. The
configurations and parameters of the DFIG and synchronous generator system are extracted from [4]. Main
grid is represented by a three phase 69 kV voltage source with 1000MVA short circuit capacity and X/R ratio
of 22.2.
Connection point of main and micro-grid systems is called Point of Common Coupling (PCC).
2MVA DFIG wind turbine consists of power electronic converter control unit which feeds generator’s rotor
and grid. Power electronic converter unit is to control active and reactive power of generator separately and
to improve power quality and stability of the network. The parameters of 5MVA synchronous generator are
given in Table 1.

3. MODELING OF BASIC COMPONENTS
3.1. Wind and Wind Turbine
Wind effect plays a fundamental rule in wind turbine modeling especially for interaction analysis
between wind turbines and the power system to which they are connected. Wind model describes wind
fluctuation in wind speed which causes power fluctuation in generator. For wind model four components can
be considered, as describe in (1) [5]:
wind bw gw rw nwV V V V V (1)
Where, Vbw = Base wind component (m/s); Vgw = Gust wind component (m/s); Vrw = Ramp wind component
(m/s); Vnw = Noise wind component (m/s).
3. IJPEDS ISSN: 2088-8694

The base component is a constant speed; wind gust component may be expressed as a sine or cosine
wave function or their combination [6]; a simple ramp function will be used for ramp component and a
triangle wave for noise function which it’s frequency and amplitude will be accordingly adjusted. The simple
block diagram for generation of wind speed is illustrated in Figure 2 and which includes all of four
components mentioned above.
For electrical analysis, a simplified aerodynamic model of wind turbine is normally used.
Accordingly wind blade torque from wind speed will be produced which is as follows:

the wind turbine rotor radius (m), Vwind is the equivalent wind speed (m/s), is the pitch angle of the rotor
(deg), is the tip speed ratio, rot is the mechanical speed of the generator (rad/s) and Cp is the power
coefficient.
Cp can be expressed as a function of the Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) and pitch angle which is given by

3.2. DFIG Model
As illustrated in Figure 3, DFIG system is a wound rotor induction generator with slip ring, with
stator directly connected to the grid and with rotor interfaced through a back to back partial scale power
converter. The converter consists of two conventional voltage source converters that are called Rotor Side
Converter (RSC) and Grid Side Converter (GSC) and a common DC-link [3]. Consequently the DFIG can be
regarded as a traditional induction machine with a nonzero rotor voltage.
Using the Concordia and Park transformation allows to write a dynamic model in a d-q reference
frame from the traditional a-b-c frame as follows [9]:

Table 2 shows the parameters of the DFIG which is used in this proposed system. The rotor side
converter operates at the slip frequency. The power converter processes only the slip power, thus if the DFIG

wind turbine [10].

Where, iqr and idr are rotor current (A) in d- and q-axis respectively, Lls and Lm are stator leakage and
mutual inductance (H), s is the electrical angular velocity (rad/s) and Vs is the magnitude of the stator phase
voltage (V). This means that using vector control with d-axis oriented stator flux vector in rotor side
converter, active and reactive power can be controlled separately. This will be achieved by regulating iqr and
idr respectively.
Grid side converter is presented for keeping DC link voltage of capacitor constant regardless to the
magnitude and direction of rotor power. Neglecting power losses in the converter, capacitor current can be
described as follow:
dc
dc gcd dcr
dV 3
i C mi i
dt 4
(13)
Where igcd stands for the d-axis current flowing between grid and grid side converter (A), idcr is the
rotor side DC current (A), C is the DC-link capacitance (F) and m is the PWM modulation index of the grid
side converter.
The reactive power flow into the grid from GSC can be expressed as:
g g gcq
3
Q V i
2
(14)
Where Vg is the magnitude of grid phase voltage (V) and igcq is q-axis current of grid side converter
(A). Therefore it is seen from (13) and (14), by adjusting igcd and igcq, DC-link voltage and Qg can be
controlled respectively.
3.3. Pitch Control
To produce a maximum energy, the blade angle must be tuned with wind straightforward using pitch
angle control of wind turbine blades. It is worth noticing that we can use this characteristic in abnormal
conditions such as grid faults to protect generator from over speeding. In two different cases, an increasing
rotor speed may be occurred; a wind speed as input power and an abnormal case due to a fault existence.
These must be distinguished first, before a control takes place. When the output terminal voltage
falls under 0.9 p.u and the rotor speed is increased, it means a fault is happened.
To actuate the event and to decrease the rotor speed, the pitch angle must be manipulated. An
emergency pitch angle should be added with rate of +10(deg/s/1000rpm) for over speed protection.
4. A FUZZY LOGIC AND PI CONTROL STRATEGY
The four main components of fuzzy logic controller are fuzzification, fuzzy inference engine, rule
base and defuzzification. Inputs are fuzzified, then based on rule base and inference system, outputs are
produced and finally the fuzzy outputs are defuzzified and applied to the main control system. Error of inputs
from their references and error deviations in any time interval are chosen as inputs. Mamdani type fuzzy
logic control is considered here.
Figure 4. Rotor side converter fuzzy controller unit structure
Figure 4 shows the block diagram of rotor side converter with fuzzy controllers. Similarly, PI
controllers are used in place of fuzzy controllers. The main objectives of this part are active power control
and voltage regulation of DFIG wind turbine using output reactive power control. As illustrated in Figure 6

rotor side converter manages to follow reference active (Pref) power and voltage (Vref) separately using fuzzy
controllers, hysteresis current controller converter and vector control algorithm. Based on (11), (12) and
Figure 6, inputs of fuzzy controller are error in active and reactive power or voltage and the rate of changes
in errors in any time interval. After the production of reference d- and q-axis rotor currents, they converted to
a-b-c reference frame using flux angle, rotor angle and finally slip angle calculation and Concordia and Park
transformation matrix. Then they applied to a hysteresis current controller to be compared with actual
currents and produce switching time intervals of converter.

In this paper, Proportional and Integral (PI) controllers are used in place of fuzzy controllers as
shown in Figure 4 and the results of both the controllers are compared. PI controller blocks operate in the
feed forward path of both active power (P) and reactive power (Q) feedback loops. PI controller gains are
tuned by using the Simulink Control Design software which makes the control systems design and analyze in
Simulink environment.
5. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
For investigation of dynamic behavior of proposed system with fuzzy logic and PI controller,
different situations and events are considered. Based on different fault locations and severity, the system has
different responses. In each condition, different parameters such as voltage, active and reactive power, rotor
currents and dc link voltage are taken to prove the capability of the proposed controller.
(a) Single line to ground fault near synchronous generator:
A single line to ground short circuit fault with duration of 0.1s is occurred near the synchronous
generator. The fault duration is from 5s to 5.1s. Figure 7 shows different responses of the synchronous
generator and DFIG in test systems. During the fault, there is little variation in active and reactive power of
wind turbine and in AC and DC-link voltages because the fault is far from the wind turbine and near the
synchronous generator, so, variation in active and reactive power of synchronous generator is high.

GSC generally controls the dc bus voltage of the back-to-back converter and the exchange of
reactive power to the grid. The proposed controllers produce the necessary values of direct and quadrature
axis rotor currents which are converted into three phase currents to maintain control on the machine stability.
The power delivered from RSC will be increased due to increase of rotor currents and voltages which in turn
increase the dc bus voltage.

rotor side converter but still stator is connected to the network and due to super synchronous operation of
wind turbine it can produce active power. The proposed controller maintains the rotor currents under their
safety limits without high over currents. Due to mitigation of the over currents of the rotor the back-to-back
converter is less affected by this perturbation which produces short dc bus voltage oscillations.

Furthermore, beside electrical protection, an emergency pitch angle is introduced with slope of ±10
(deg/s). When voltage drops under 0.8 p.u and wind speed is constant, emergency pitch angle due to external
fault activates to protect DFIG from over speeding and keep output power below rated value. As soon as
voltage and speed come back to normal situation it starts to decrease and returns to normal situation. Grid
side converter acts as STATCOM and tries to restore voltage. After rotor current returns under the limit and a
constant time delay, crowbar switch opens and rotor side converter continues to operate. As illustrated in
Figure 9, fuzzy control unit of wind turbine maintains good stability and restores parameters to their
predefined values as well in comparison with PI controller.
6. CONCLUSION
In this paper, dynamic performance of DFIG under different fault conditions with PI controller and
fuzzy logic control has been investigated. The PI controller and fuzzy logic controller has been designed and
implemented in MATLab/Simulink. To prove the performance of controller unit, the abnormal situations of
single line to ground fault near and away from DFIG and three phase line to ground fault near DFIG are
exerted on proposed system. The output voltage, active and reactive powers, dc-link voltage, direct and
quadrature axis totor currents are improved for fuzzy logic controller compared to PI controller for different
cases of fault near and away from DFIG. The performance of fuzzy logic controller is found quite
satisfactory in improving stability and power quality of wind turbine compared to PI controller. Closer fault
location to the wind turbine causes more severe effect and a three line to ground short circuit fault near the
wind turbine as the worst case in which voltage decreases until zero and rotor current exceeds its limit.
