The paper presents a single-phase multilevel inverter (MLI) designed for photovoltaic (PV) power generation, featuring simpler basic unit cells that allow operation in both charge and inverter modes. This proposed MLI requires fewer power MOSFETs and gate driver units compared to conventional designs, resulting in cost savings and enhanced reliability, while achieving a low total harmonic distortion (THD) of 8.91%. Experimental and simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed design, demonstrating its capability to produce a low THD AC output voltage.
