This document outlines the 8-step problem solving method taught in the Lean Systems Program. It begins with learning goals of deepening awareness of the importance of the 8 steps, applying it to work situations, experiencing how the A3 tool communicates the process, and applying it in the work environment. It then details each of the 8 steps: clarify the problem, break down the problem, set a target, analyze root cause, develop countermeasures, see countermeasures through, monitor results and processes, and standardize successful processes. Examples are provided to illustrate how to apply each step. Guiding principles are also discussed such as using facts, thorough communication, and addressing problems rather than blaming people.
