The Influence Of Food On Food
Food has acted as a huge influence on our world and has shaped both our politics and our
economy into what they have become today. The book An Edible History of Humanity , described
the influence of food on ancient civilizations and how it continued to mold politics and economics
as time went on. Parts two and three specifically described the origins of food s influence on
politics and economics, and then continued on describing how humanity began using food to
expand and grow. Civilizations in both parts took advantage of tradeto gain power, and also used
trade to further boost their economies, however they went to different lengths to achieve these
things so the outcomes were varied.
Both parts feature civilizations looking to gain power through use of food. Part two speaks of
the emergence of Big Men; a man who had won the control of the food transfers and trade within
the group of people he lived with. Big Men would keep the food moving; doing favors for people
with the expectation that it would be returned down the road. The average Big Man was only in
it for the respect, because while he constantly had food and goods in his possession, they were
all traded off almost as quickly as they came in so he didn t get to keep much for himself or his
family at all. More often than not, he was worse off than his customers. As time passed, Big men
evolved into Elites, who instead of trading off all of their surpluses, they ate part of their surpluses
and used the rest to

Literary Analysis Of The October Sun By D. Omer Seamon
October Sun by D. Omer Seamon is a 1987 watercolor by Indianan native, whose work primarily
consists of landscape watercolors, working as a freelance artist. Painted for the purpose of delight,
October Sun depicts a beautiful fall day that draws the viewer into its frame. For the sake of
analysis, I am using formal evaluation to discuss the formal elements and principles of design that
make this watercolor so compelling.
The use of oranges, yellows, reds, pale greens, and browns for the leaves anchors the painting in the
fall, giving the paint a tangible quality. Balancing the top portion of the painting, Seamon uses the
vibrant color of the leaves in the top, middle left and the background trees to give the painting a
sense of balance, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personally, I believe this image is so compelling due to its ability to pull its viewer into the work
through the sheer illusion of a third dimension as if you could able down the path and though the
fall color pallet, which immediately transports the viewer to the landscape giving it a tangible
quality. It is because of the tangible quality and the warm images of fall that this watercolor
evokes that I believe it fulfills its function as art for delight, making me almost want to grab it off
the walls of Rose Hulman and run away with

Paul and Peter
Background information about Paul Paul whose name was Saul was an early Christian missionary
and theologian, known as the Apostle to the Gentiles was born a Jew in Tarsus, Rome. As a minor,
he was trained as a rabbi but earned his living as a tentmaker. A zealous Pharisee, he persecuted the
first Christians until a vision of Jesus, experienced while on the road to Damascus, converted him to
Christianity. Three years later he met St. Peter and Jesus brother James and was henceforth
recognized as the 13th Apostle. From his base in Antioch, he traveled widely, preaching to the
Gentiles. By asserting that non Jewish disciples of Christ did not have to observe Jewish law, he

Background information about Peter Saint Peter the Apostle, original name Simeon, or Simon
(died AD 64, Rome), disciple of Jesus Christ, recognized in the early church as the leader of the
disciples and the Roman Catholic Church as the first of its unbroken succession of popes. Peter
a fisherman, was called to be a disciple of Jesus at the beginning of his ministry. He received
from Jesus an Aramaic appellation Cephas which means Rock. This was translated into Greek
as Petros (from the Greek Petra, rock ) and became a Latin Petrus and the English Peter. Jesus
told Peter he was the Rock upon whom the Christian Church would be built. Throughout the
public life of Jesus, Peter is represented in the Gospel as the Spokesman and principal member of
Jesus followers. He is the first named in the entire list given of these followers and was present
with a privilege at few special occasions, example, the daughter of Jairus brought back to life by
Jesus. He was also the first to see Jesus after his resurrection from the dead. Peter baptized the
Roman pagan Cornelius and at the council of Jerusalem he gave his support to preaching to
gentiles. He was imprisoned by King Herod Agrippa and escaped with the help of an angel. Peter
died in Rome during the reign of Emperor Nero. It is said that Peter was crucified on the Vatican

Full Inclusion versus Self-Contained or Special Schools
Full Inclusion Versus Self Contained or Special Schools The treatment of individuals with
disabilities has changed dramatically since the 1800 s. Reynolds 1988, describes, Progressive
inclusion, the evolution of services provided to those with various disabilities. In the early 1800 s
residential institutions, or asylums were seem as common place accommodations for individuals
with hearing, visual, mental or emotional impairments. Institutions remained the primary
educational support until a century later in the early 1900 s. The parents of students with
disabilities brought upon a legislation change. During the 1950 s and 1960 s, these parents
pressured courts and legislatures to introduce a change in educational services. Reynolds... Show

In this case, a self contained program or special school may be considered. Some individuals
believe that inclusion settings may leave teachers with lacking resources, training and other
supports necessary to teach students with disabilities in their classrooms. Tornillo 1994, believes
that a student with extensive needs placed in an inclusion setting are not getting appropriate,
specialized attention and care, and the regular students education is disrupted constantly. Tornillo
1994, also argues that teachers are required to direct excessive attention to a few students,
thereby decreasing the amount of time and energy dissected towards the rest of the class.
Therefore, the mandates for greater academic accountability and achievement are unable to be
met. Mauro 2009 indicates placement in a self contained classroom or special school means that
the child would be removed from the general school population for all academic subjects to work
in a controlled setting with a specialized teacher. Students in self contained programs or special
schools may be working at all different levels, with different textbooks, and different curricula.
Self contained classes and special schools offer structure, routine, and appropriate expectations
according to Mauro 2009. Additionally, full inclusive models do not account for students who are
unable to learn from a typical model of instruction. For example, a Deaf student who is unable to
lip read would require a full time interpreter and

Food Intake 3 Days
The three day food intake information that was recorded in I Profile was completed to provide
information on the types of food that were being eaten, nutritional values and to understand the
importance of healthier eating behaviors.
Recorded Intake of Protein, Carbohydrates, and Lipids
According to the spreadsheet of foods that were recorded in the three day intake I Profile, many
of the foods listed provided an overlap of protein, carbohydrates and lipids. The foods recorded
that provided the majority intake of protein were Eggs, Chicken, Turkey ham, Cheese, Breakfast
Sausage. (University of Phoenix, 2012). Next, the foods that provided the majority of ... Show more

If protein deficiency is continued, this could lead to muscle deterioration, digestive problems and
severe weight loss. Eating too few carbohydrates can cause the body to find another source for
energy, such as protein which is needed for energy and muscle tissue. Additionally, carbohydrates
are the primary source for glucose that is needed for the brain to function properly. Consuming to
few lipids does not provide the necessary energy needed for the body, which decrease metabolism
and hormone production.
Fiber Intake Ranges
The fiber intakes meet the recommendation calculated by I Profile. Since the recommendation
was met, I believe that the fiber intake was just right. However, I do not believe that my diet met
the minimum number of servings of food from each of the fiber containing groups. I believe that
the both groups for fruits and vegetables fell short of the minimum number of servings. The
specific foods that provided the most fiber were pasta, and a bagel. Whereas, the foods that
provided the least were the BBQ chips, Croissant, sausage. It appears that the trend in my food
choices is that there are not enough fruits and vegetables, which affects my fiber intake.
Dietary Modifications
The identifiable patterns are that there is not enough consumption of balanced food choices, not
eating regularly and that processed food is selected more often.

Health Of Public Health Services
In the United States. Public health infrastructures are set up to better serve and provide the
necessary public health services to the community. These Infrastructures are not only dictated by
the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, but by Public health agencies at the state and local
level or by private and public organizations. Every healthagency must abide by three core functions
in order to promote health in the community. They must first assess by observing the health status
of a community, identifying the health issues and providing solutions. Next, they must develop
policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts, enforce law and regulations
to ensure health safety. Finally, they must assure that the people are informed and educated about
health issues. Under these functions, there are also ten essential health services that each agency
thrives to provide to the community to ensure proper and quality health care (The Public Health
System and the 10 Essential Public Health Services, 2014)
The Gwinnett, Rockdale and Newton county health departments collaboratively work to provide a
safe, healthy, and prepared community where all individuals have access to quality health care.

promoting well being and preparing for disasters. They are dedicated to providing services that are

The Benefit Of Bilingualism
Benefits of Bilingualism
In modern society, owning a place in the bilingual community is a special trait that allows for
people to have a true connection with one another. Bilingual is a term describing people who can
speak more than one language, and with more than 7000 languages inhibiting the world, the
demand for bilingual speakers is steadily growing (Okal, 2014). The number of people who speak
more than one language is increasing world wide as it is estimated that over a billion people in
the world speak more than one language fluently (Okal, 2014, p. 226). With that being said, some
studies show that approximately one in five Americans speak a language other than English at
home, and that is just in the United States alone. Moreover, the number of people who are able to
speak more than one language is more than likely going to exhibit an increase in the near future as
well (Callahan Gandara, 2014). Along with an increase in speakers, an increase in demand for these
speakers will increase too. Bilingualism opens the gateway to opportunities and benefits for people
all around the world. However, many people do not see the importance of increasing the spread of
bilingual speakers throughout the nation s communities. Without these bilingual speakers, various
people and their neighborhoods would not be able to communicate with one another because of the
large language barrier sitting between them. That is why being bilingual contains many benefits,
including its brain improvements, career benefits, and social skill boosts that will help out the
speaker and his or her listeners in the long run.
Opposing Viewpoints
Of course, the art of being bilingual may display a few faults. One of these faults may be that
both languages can be present at the same time, which means that when a bilingual person hears a
word, he or she is able to make a connection with both languages based on the sounds. In a study
by Dr. Viorica Marian and Anthony Shook (2012), the authors explain how bilingual speakers
connect sounds with both languages. For instance, if an English and Spanish bilingual speaker
hears the word to to, his or her brain may instantly try to find words in both languages containing
the sound to gives

Rugby Team Reflection
Since the spring of my sophomore year, I have been tasked with leading a true motley crew. By
others this crew is called the Edina Rugby Club; however, I think of each and every one one of
these young men as brothers. Without the sport of rugby, I would not have had the great fortune of
meeting so many teammates of different distinctive personalities, backgrounds and ethnicity. There
are kids from the high schoolband to the math club to the varsity football team who make up this
crew. Given the responsibility to lead these young men, I have grown as a teammate and also as
a human being. I have developed the ability to respect everyone, regardless of who they are,
where they are from, and what they believe in. I learn from these young men and let them teach
me different things about each of their cultures that without rugby I might never have learned.
When I consider each teammate, despite different ethnicities and backgrounds, I see that they
are no different than me. I have learned to respect people not for where they come from or what
they believe in, but for who they are and how they conduct themselves as a young man. With that
being said, I still have the utmost respect for each individual s personal beliefs and history.
However, as a leader I feel that if we can get by the stereotypical norms of categorizing people we
will find ourselves not only having greater success as leaders but as a society as a whole.
Ultimately, those who lead are responsible for teaching the

This is as evident in the most updated from AHA s ACLS guidelines. Aspirin s mechanism at the
cellular level is inhibition of cyclooxygenase 1 and 2, which causes decreased arachidonic

Should The Articles Of Confederation Or Write A New...
In 1787, a group of fifty five American delegates, met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to attend the
Constitutional Convention to work out problems with the way the country was run. This involved
improving and revising the old Articles of Confederation. Instead of revising the Articles of
Confederation to make the government work better, the delegates came up with a plan for a new
form of government, the United States Constitution. During the writing and ratifying of the
Constitution, there were some fundamental issues being debated. The main debate was about
whether to amend the Articles of Confederationor write a new constitution. James Madison, a
member of the Virginia Assembly, moved the convention along but proposing a document he had
drafted called the Virginia Plan. The Virginia Plan created a central republican form of government.

Delegates feared that the national government would have too much power over the states.
William Paterson came up with the New Jersey Plan. The Plan proposed for changes in the
Articles of Confederation that would let Congress regulate trade and tax imports, but would
maintain state power. The New Jersey Plan proposed a single legislature, a government that relied
on the authority of the state governments, more than one executive and one vote of legislation for
each state. The plan allowed each state to keep its independence. The plan did not stop the states
from violating foreign treaties, or from entering into treaties, or wars. James Madison was against
the New Jersey Plan. Madison insisted that the New Jersey Plan did not improve any of the flaws
of the Articles of Confederation. The Virginia Plan was finally approved as the plan to be used to
construct the new government. The approval of the Virginia Plan meant that the delegates were

Dbq Mongol Empire Essay
Throughout history, empires have controlled vast expanses of the world. Yet no empire has ever
impacted the world s like the Mongols. Spanning from present day Russia to Korea, the Mongol
Empire ruled the Eurasian continent. By modern conventions, legacy is the gift or impact someone
leaves when they die. Noah Feldman once said, Empires inevitably fall, and when they do, history
judges them for the legacies they leave behind. Despite committing some of the greatest atrocities in
recorded history, the legacy of the Mongol Empire is also defined by their ingenious military

Stricter Strict Regulations For Tobacco Control Essay
The need to enforce stricter regulations for tobacco control by local communities and individual
states is the health policy issue being analyzed. According to The Healthy People (2010) tobacco
use and the availability of its products are harmful to our population in various ways, ranked as one
of the top ten leading indicators for health concern. The addictive nature of tobaccohas created a
high demand for their products, boosting the tobacco industry s profits tremendously, and states
gaining revenue from taxation on it has contributed to the issues and reasoning states lack enforcing
stricter controls. Regulations have been set in place from the federal government in efforts to
control tobacco regulation gaining some control over distribution. The federal government s actions
and implementations have affected the tobacco control authority of state and local governments.
The need for additional stricter regulations and laws by individual states are needed to reduce the

The tobacco industry has been working to influence the personal behavior of individuals as well as
in national structures which extend across disparate government sectors to use tobacco products
despite the known risks. Since interaction is prohibited between the federal government and the

Sexual Assault On Teenage Girls
In a study that was documented in December 2014, for the period 1995 2013, females ages 18 to
24 had the highest rate of rape and sexual assault victimizations compared to females in all other
age groups (Langton Sinozich, p. 1). This report compared and described how sexual assault can
effect students and nonstudents, but it focused mainly on females with the male as the offender.
The findings are from the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) National Crime Victimization Survey
(NCVS), which collects information on nonfatal crimes reported and not reported to police against
persons age 12 or older (Langton Sinozich, 2014, p. 1). It is important to note that the statistics for

There is far too much of the whole victim blaming, glorification of sex, and lack of consideration
for a person. I believe if we focus on fixing how society functions during sexual assault cases,
then I believe we can decrease the rates of sexual assault by helping people become more
informed and by treating it as a serious issue. When it comes to punishments, they must be more
severe and certain or else things like this will continue to happen. We also need to focus on
getting those who are assaulted to let someone know. There are people here for them that can help,
even if they don t think they need help, they do. Sexual assault is a serious crime that affects both
females and males at any age. If we continue to see it as anything else, then it ll only get worse over
time which is not something that the world

Comparison Of The Youngstown City School District
The two district I chose to compare to the Youngstown City School District are Canton School and
Mansfield School Districts. As I was going through the report cards I was not surprised at the
similarities between Canton Schools and Youngstown, due to the fact that they are both city school
districts. However, I was surprised with the scores from the Mansfield s report card, and I am not
sure why?
Below is a breakdown/comparison of the three school districts:
As I compiled this report looking at the overall report card these three districts are very similar.
They all received an overall F on their State Report Card but there were a few differences that
stood out to me. First is the K 3 Literacy, Youngstown received a... Show more content on

In YCSD it seems that Students with Disabilities are the students who move the most, while CCSD
has both Limited English and the Hispanic students are the most mobile and MCSD the Limited
English population that is most mobile.
When looking at District Report Cards all we usually hear about is student data, not realizing
that there is also teacher data reported in this document. Looking over the data as a whole the
schools are pretty similar in teacher data. Attendance was at between 93% and 94%, while
teacher students ratio per 1000 students was lower than the state average in all schools. Teacher
s average pay was within $5000.00, MCSD was the lowest at $52,000.00 and CCSD being the
highest at $57,000.00. Looking at teacher and principal evaluations YCSD and MCSD had no
teachers with an Effective evaluation, the highest percentage of teachers fell under Accomplished
in evaluations. As for principals YCSD and MCSD principals were either Accomplished or
Skilled, the majority were Skilled, in all Districts. As for CCSD, they had no one Accomplished,
but they did have Developing and Effective.
Finance was the final section of the report I looked at and YCSD spends the most per pupil, over
$11,000 while the other two districts between $8800 and $9400 and about 65% of that are spent on
classrooms.

Asian Americans And Asian American Actors
Since the first half of the 19th century, Asian Americans have been involved in the media industry
when the original Siamese Twins Chang and Eng Bunker became naturalized citizens of America.
Roles in television and other media were scarce for Asian Americans, only available roles were
very stereotypical. Early Asian Americanactors such as Bruce Lee and Sessue Hayakawa could only
land stereotypical supporting roles in prime time television. While minority actors have progress
through the years, Asian Americans in the media remains an issue. The misrepresentation of Asians
Americans that continues the tendency of stereotypes and type casting. To this day, Asians
Americans take on roles that tends to portray the stereotypical roles. Asian Americans becomes
easily targeted and exploited from such representation. Model Minority Stereotype is consistently
express through advertising and primetime television; Asians being nerdy: having type casted into
professional roles ignoring real values and cultures, Asian women: seen as hypersexual, erotic,
cunning and dangerous, Asian men: dangerous, unfriendly, master of martial arts, undesirable male
partners and weak. Media representation of Asian Americans in America s media history, continue
to influence and reproduce dominant Americentric impressions, rather than the true authentic
depiction of Asian American culture and behavior. Americentric stereotypes of Asian American

The fabric of her dress ripping was loud in the closed room, accompanied only by the sound of

RMC employs a standard three tier distribution system where the company sells to wholesalers who
in turn sell to retailers who sell to the public. The company finds its niche in the premium and ultra

In January 1999, Michael Mondavi, the CEO of the RMC and son of its founder, Robert Mondavi,
announced the reorganization of the company and the layoff of 4% of the workforce. RMC had
experienced a shortfall in supplying its Woodbridge Chardonnay brand. Unhappy distributors had
begun substituting competing Chardonnay brands on retailer s shelves. Yet, some distributors
remained reluctant to carry the brand even though Woodbridge production levels returned to normal

Why Stalin Built The Iron Curtain Essays
Why Stalin Built The Iron Curtain
The Iron Curtain was the term used in the West to refer to the boundary line, which divided
Europe into to separate areas of political influence. This was set up from the end of World War
Two until the end of the Cold War. During this period, Eastern Europe was under control and
influence of the Soviet Union (USSR,) where as Western Europe enjoyed freedom. It was a border
set up by Joseph Stalin, the ruler of the USSR in the years after the Second World War. The term the
Iron Curtain, was first introduced in Winston Churchill s long speech, an Iron curtain has

Roosevelt and Stalin had got on well but at Potsdam the new USA leader, President Harry
Truman had adopted a policy of get tough on Stalin and Russia. Disagreements had taken place
over a range of issues. The USSR did not keep its promise about holding free elections in Eastern
Europe. The USA also dropped the atom bomb on Japan without consulting the USSR. Stalin was
very irritated that Truman did not tell the USSR about the atomic bomb until the last minute. This
created a belief in the USSR that the bombs had been dropped as a warning to the Russians.
In 1946, Britain and the USA agreed to unite their zones in Germany for economic purposes. But
this idea was not taken well in the USSR. Not only were the Western allies acting without the
agreement of the Soviet Union, but also they were planning to rebuild Germany, when Stalin
wanted to keep it as weak as possible.
Stalin built the Iron Curtain; it was a thousand mile fence cutting off the communist countries of
Eastern Europe from the non communist West. The most famous example of the Iron Curtain was
the Berlin Wall. However that was not built until 1961. The Iron Curtain became the most
important symbol in the Cold War. Between 945 and 1948, all the countries behind the Iron Curtain

An Introduction Of Navajo Constellations
An Introduction to Navajo Constellations Throughout our existence, mankind has looked up to the
stars with a fantastical wonderment that excites a feeling of the unknown. In order to understand
the heavens above us, ancient cultures created grand mythologies utilizing valiant heroes, gods,
and life practices and then imbedded these stories into the stars in the form of constellations. One
of these cultures is the Navajo Native American tribe that resided in the southwest region of the
United States. By viewing these constellations and the myths behind them, we can learn about
what they Navajo held scared and how they viewed the world around them. An important aspect
of Navajo culture is the time period in which traditional stories can be told. Stories of the sky
which include the moon, sun, and stars can only be told during the winter months which is
regarded as the time from the first first, usually in October, until the first thunderstorm, usually in
late February. It is currently winter as this is being written so the following information falls in
accordance with Navajo tradition. We ask that this only be read and shared during the appropriate
time period to respect the traditions of a most noble people. The Navajo are the largest federally
recognized Native American Indian tribe in the United States. The DinГ© BikГ©yah or

bombers to rapidly punch a hole in enemy lines. Blitzkrieg was first used in the invasion of Poland,
but was adopted as the common German invasion method across Europe and Russia. After Germany

On June 22, 1941, Hitler sent 148 army divisions consisting of 3,350 tanks,7,100 cannons, 2,000
planes, and 3 million men to the Soviet border. Germany attacked Russia along an 1,800 mile
long front. In the beginning, Germany was very successful, and by the start of July Germany
had destroyed 1,000 Soviet aircrafts, 1,200 tanks, and 600 big guns and in addition had captured
150,000 Russian soldiers (Rice 30). The Blitzkrieg continued to roll into Moscow, the capital of
Russia, Moscow and it pushed Russian forces back 600 miles. However, suddenly the German
offensive seemed to take a toll for the worst. Germany made the mistake of only packing for a
month s worth of supplies and the rapid advance across Russia had spread the German tanks thin
and undersupplied. Also, the muddy terrain made it very hard for the tanks and other German
vehicles to advance. The Germans had underestimated the real strength and fortitude of the Soviet
Union army. Taking advantage of the turning momentum, the Soviet army began to repel the
undersupplied German army. Hitler s generals recommended they stop fighting until spring, but
Hitler declined the request and forced them to keep pushing through the winter. The main reason
Hitler forced his army to keep going was because he wanted the oil and the grain fields that
Leningrad and Moscow would give him. With all this happening, Hitler lost focus on his original
goal of destroying the Soviet Army. On December 6th, 1941, the Russians launched an
unexpected offensive along the two hundred mile front of Moscow. Many of the Germans couldn
t fight back because their automatic weapons were frozen and couldn t fire. The 100 Soviet
divisions struck the Nazis so badly, they never had time to recover. Nazi generals asked Hitler for
a retreat but he refused, and because of such poor decisions, he lost a majority of the

in medicine today.1 However, there are many problems with the current synthesis method that

To achieve this goal, Green Chemistry focuses specifically on preventing waste, designing safer
chemicals and synthetic methods, and saving energy and money.4 This research of azole synthesis
is a study incorporating these practices of green chemistry, consequently improving the current
synthesis method for pharmaceutical production. The benefits of Green Chemistry are countless.
From an economic point of view, businesses can save large amounts of money by eliminating the
costly efforts of excessive pollutant prevention. Also, increasing efficiency of materials used and
improving the yields of reactions is minimizing the cost of materials for production. Using organic
solvents along with reducing pollution creates a safer environment for workers and enhances public
safety. 4 Therefore, these improvements are very important and should be included in the current
synthetic methods used in industries today. Forming C C bonds at the C2 of azoles is a necessary
step in the beginning of the current azole synthesis method which generally requires using strong
bases, low temperatures, and/or expensive, toxic precious metal catalysts.5,6,7 By substituting these
issues with organic solvents, ambient temperature, and weaker bases, a synthesis method better
suited for pharmaceutical industries is created.
Background Even though previous methods of azole synthesis have

Recent Chinese economic policies have shot the country into the world economy at full speed. As
testimony of this, China s gross domestic product has risen to seventh in the world, and its economy
is growing at over nine percent per year (econ gen 1). Starting in 1979, the Chinese have
implemented numerous economic and political tactics to open the Chinese marketplace to the rest

Even after accounting for all the economic benefits recognized by the world, the Chinese still come
out as the country with the most gains. However, there are more motives behind China s market
reforms than just purely economic.
On the political front, China is fast becoming an integral part of international organizations. The
Chinese government is making a conscious effort to reenter
GATT (the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade), realizing the importance of creating a
favorable trading status among foreign nations. Slowing this progress, the 124 nation strong trade
bloc has requested that numerous conditions must be met by China before the nation can become a
member of GATT once again. Several of these provisions are the elimination of import prohibitions,
restrictive licensing requirements and other controls or restrictions; lifting of all restrictions on
access to foreign exchange and full convertibility of the Chinese currency (china tr. 2). Other
important key themes behind China s Open Door policies are economic and technological
cooperation with the West (china tr 1) and that China s government no longer supports Third World
revolution. Instead, China realizes that cooperation with developing countries would be far more
practical. Although Chinese foreign policy is aimed at opening the nation s entire economy to the
world, it neglects the agricultural market almost entirely, with the exception

Catcher In The Rye And The Kite Runner First Person Narrative
First person narrative expresses a point of view giving the greatest sense of identity of the

main level being the institutional level.
Introduction
Touch is fast and skilful game attracting participants of all shapes and sizes, genders and
backgrounds. Touch began as a training game for the two rugby codes during the 1950 s and 60 s
it was never seen as a sport in its own right.
Today touch enjoys a healthy level of participation both on a national front, with World Cups and

Structural
The structural level is concerned with the factors such as resources, rewards, social position and
power (Kirk et al. 1999 p.130)
Major Rugby Union playing countries are Australia, England, France, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand,
Scotland, South Africa and Wales.
The minor nations include Argentina, Canada, Fiji, Georgia, Japan, Namibia, Romania, Samoa,

a person s entire story, so you should always be kind and compassionate to them.
Scout s mindset in this book reminded me of my own beliefs as a child. When I was younger, I
believed that everyone around me was a good person. I was also intolerant and prejudiced
against people who were different than me. Just like Scout, as I grew older and more mature, I
realized that people can be good and evil and became more accepting of people who are different
than me. The two types of conflict in the story were man vs. man and man vs. society. Bob Ewell

man conflict. During the trial, Atticus attempts to convince the jury and townspeople not to be
prejudiced and give Tom Robinson a fair trial, which is an example of man vs. society conflict.
One of the literary elements I noticed was dialect, which was used to make the story seem more
realistic and figurative language such as similes and metaphors. Symbolism is also very
prominent in the book. One of the main symbols used is mockingbirds. Miss Maudie tells Scout,
Mockingbirds don t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don t eat up people s
gardens, don t nest in corncribs, they don t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That s
why it s a sin to kill a mockingbird. Mockingbirds represent the characters in the story that are
innocent and

Case Study Of Bharat Forge And Suzanle
Case Study: Bharat Forge and Suzlon.

Bharat Forge and Suzlon are two of the biggest Indian companies in the world today. These are two
companies that made globalizing a top priority and this case study focuses on how these two
companies managed to get themselves noticed and established on the world map. These two
companies are manufacturers of very different products. Bharat Forge is very much focused on
automotive parts, specifically on forging parts whereas Suzlon was a textile manufacturing industry
which then turned its focus on wind turbines, turning it into a force to be reckoned with in the
energy sector. This case study focuses... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But one key difference was that Bharat Forge, a domestic player, tried to reduce cost by employing
highly skilled Indian engineers at low cost. The firm made good use of the availability of cheap
labour in the country just many other Indian companies. However, Suzlon had moved from textile
manufacturing to wind turbine manufacturing and they used the idea of synergizing the
technological expertise from abroad with a strong engineering backbone in India i.e., bringing
together the expertise of both worlds( India and abroad). The key difference here while reducing
cost was the usage of manual labor and technological labor indicating that Bharat forge used manual
labor and Suzlon used its technological expertise and hired engineers from

Discuss The Difference Between Phonetics And Phonology
Language can be called as a system of communication. It is the human capability to communicate
and interact with each other vie speech sounds or signs. It is a mediam of portraying our views. It is
a mean of sharing feelings and ideas together and the scientific study of any language is called
linguistics.
Phonetics is the subheading of linguistics that deals with the study of the sounds of human speech,
or the signs in the case of sign signals used for interactions. It deals with physical features of speech
science or sounds usually called phones, their way of production, acoustic features, auditory

Fice Of National Statistics Crime Survey Essay
The Office of National Statistics Crime Survey for England and Wales (2016) reported that
violence against the person offences recorded by the police rose by 24% in the latest year with the
latest figures representing the highest number of violence against the person offences recorded in a
12 month period since the introduction of the National CrimeRecording Standard (NCRS) in April
2002. The Offences Against the Person Act (1981) defines the violent forceful infliction of physical
injury as Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH), whether this be with intent (section 18) or without intent
(section 20), as unlawfully wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm (Crown Prosecution Service,
n.d.) These are indictable only offences with the charge of GBH Section 18, with intent; actus reus
(guilty act) and mens rea (guilty mind), carrying higher penalties than that of Section 20, without
intent. With a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, this reflects the significant life changing
psychological and physiological ramifications impacted upon its victims.
In considering the offence of GBH, I shall critically consider two criminological theories and relate
these theories to this serious violent offence, noting the extent to which they explain this behaviour.
Finally, I will consider how these theories fit into the broader context of criminological thinking.
Research suggests that violence arises from interactions among individuals psychosocial
development, their neurological and hormonal

Feasibility Report on Internationalisation of an Australian Company
Executive Summary
The following feasibility report on JT Toy s interest to manufacture overseas has thoroughly
explored the positive and negative aspects of local production in comparison to moving its
operations to China. Manufacturing methods, such as a wholly owned subsidiary; owning and
controlling a factory in China, a strategic alliance and licensing agreements have been analysed in
detail.
The evidence shows that moving part of the business to China as a wholly owned subsidiary, whilst
keeping its headquarters in Melbourne would be the most beneficial long term option. Paying
royalties and dividing profit with an overseas company ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A wholly owned subsidiary in China would consequently be ideal, so long as it is a strategic
/tactical long term plan.
A strategic alliance is defined as where two or more independent organisations set up a co operative
partnership to gain mutual strategic advantage. (Bartol, K, Tein, M, Matthews). This option would
involve JT Toys aligning itself with a pre existing Chinese manufacturing company, and using each
other s strengths for a mutual advantage. The Chinese company could produce toys with their
cheaper labour and production costs, while using the established brand of JT Toys, as well as their
vision and successful standing in the Australian market.

Emmett Till Reflection
1.The whole story and trial of Emmett Till was probably one of the most saddest stories I have
heard about. What surprised me most is the reason why they killed Emmett. This just showed
how much blacks were looked down upon. Nowadays, women get whistled at all the time by all
different types of men. This is just a rude gesture to whistle at a women, however we wouldn t
brutally murder them. What also surprised me was how they killed him. The murderers did not
have to savagely kill him. This changed my view on history and actually opened my eyes. I think
we need to be better educated on the subject that everybody tries to ignore.
2.During the trial, businesses put out jars to collect money for the defense of the two murderers.
This shows that everyone was on the murderers side. The community views the white race as the
superior race, and that is why the murderers were not guilty. Society then, was not a time that we
should be proud of. Those murderers should have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If I could interview those children now when they are around 60, I would ask why did they do
that? Pretending to shoot someone and laugh, what did that symbolize and what did that mean
to them? I would also ask how they viewed race growing up. What was race to them? I would
also ask what if it was the year 2015, would they still do that as kids? I would expect them to be
surprised about the first question. As children, we do not understand what we are doing, but we
should know right from wrong and laughing at someone, pretending to kill them is unacceptable.
I would expect them to answer what it meant to do that and I think they would explain that they
were only kids and that it was a different time and society in 1955. I would expect them to answer
how they felt about race growing with obviously saying that the colored people were looked
down on. If they were to do that now in 2015, they probably would not do that in the first place, it
is a completely different time period and everyone is

A Research Study On Relational Database Technology
Abstract. In this report I will introduce the Memcached technology and provide more details about
it. In addition, I will explain how it works and how it differs than relational database technology.
Furthermore, I will use the finding of the paper Performance Evaluation of a Clustered Memcached
to present how Memcached can improve the performance of the web applications. The paper that I
did study is about a simulation project of using three different architectures of Memcached. The
simulation results will monitor the CPU and RAM usability of all the nodes in these three
architectures. I will explain the results and will discuss the findings of their results.
The relational database technology dominated the web applications for more than 30 years. This
technology is able to handle limited load to the database. However, the internet technologies and the
advents of the smart phones make the web applications to be accessible by many users and from
any location that is covered by the internet connectivity. In addition, currently, the web data in the
internet is dominated by the social networking and social media applications which include:
Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and others. This kind of web applications will likely be
prone to the high load of the database layer. As a result, it was not possible for the relational
database technology to handle the database load for such applications. Even scaling out the
application servers will not solve the database load

My Strengths Weaknesses
My Strength and Weakness
Everyone is different in many ways. There are differences in gender, nationality, religious activities
and there are differences in strengths and weaknesses. Those strengths and weaknesses are looked
at in Corporate America and they assist the higher management in making decisions for the roles
we play on each team. I will be discussing my strengths and weaknesses.
Over the years, I have learned how to react and respond in different ways and it all depends on what
is happening in my surroundings. I owe a lot of this to my 11 years of military service. The military
trains you in a way that once you are done with their training; you will walk, talk and act as a soldier
is supposed to act. There are times when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Procrastination and being laid back are two of my biggest weaknesses. The behavior has minimized
since assuming the leadership role with Bank of America. I always would take on tasks and do
them at months end then I would find myself working 18 hour days to complete what could have
been started at the beginning of the month. One of the good things that my leadership has in
place is a daily pulse check. This enables us to see where we stand as a leadership team and to
ensure that no task goes undone. At the beginning, I continually pushed back on completing my
tasks and there was always a rush at months end to complete all assigned tasks. After leaving the
Army 10 years ago, I also procrastinated on my higher education until recently. I kept on stating
that there was little or no time to complete my higher education. After several job declines due to
not having a degree; I decided to take the step and finish my degree.
Being too open or showing feelings at the work place is another weakness that I do carry. With
my military background I have been lead to believe that your squad is like family and things are
to be discussed just in case we ever did go to war I would know what would motivate the soldier
in a time of crisis. I have bought this thought with me into Corporate America and it has come to
hurt me as bringing in your personal life into the workplace. When I was going through the crisis
with my mother; I worked in the Spanish Department and my manager

Medical Marijuana And Medical Therapy
Medical marijuana refers to the use of cannabis as medical therapy in the palliative sense to treat
diseases or alleviate symptoms. This treatment modality has proven to be a highly debatable issue
within the medical field due to the use of this substance as an illicit drug. The National Youth Risk
Behavior Survey monitors priority health risk behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of
death, disability, and social problems among youth and adults in the United States (Center for
Disease Control and Prevention, 2012). The most recent survey conducted on ninth through twelfth
grade students in public and private schools throughout the United States indicated that in 2011, a
mean of 39.9% of participants reported ever using marijuana one or more times during their lives
(Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012). Although this substance has been most often
used for recreational purposes, recent studies have shown that an increasing number of people are
fighting to have legislation passed in order for the use medicinal marijuana to be made legal. The
populations most affected by such legislation include those positively affected by the use of
medical marijuana, patients suffering from chronic and debilitating illnesses, and those who utilize
the drug for other reasons associated with recreation and personal pleasure. The issue highlights the
beneficial aspect of marijuana use detailing symptom management and improving overall quality of
life; and conversely,

Pan s Labyrinth Essay
Jean Baudrillard s theory of hyperreality focuses on how people have become immersed in the
media and these false replications of reality. These simulacra meaning a fake copy of something
become the central point in our lives. In Pan s Labyrinth, the young protagonist Ofelia creates a
simulated world in her own imagination to escape the reality of her ill mother and having to
move in with her cruel new stepfather, Captain Vidal. This world is a simulation of reality a
fantasy world that exists inside the real world. Ofelia is unable to discern the fake world from
the real world, resulting in the audience also not being able to differentiate between the two,
especially as it is told primarily through her perspective. As the story progresses it becomes more
apparent that her world is merely imagined, and at the end it is still left slightly ambiguous to the
audience as to whether it was all Ofelia s imagination or not. Ofelia lives through the illusory
world throughout the majority of the film, up to and after the real world the original copy is
destroyed. It could be considered that we live through our screens just as Ofelia does through her
fantasy esque world. However, the difference is that Ofelia s imagined fake reality is more of a
coping mechanism. She escapes into a fabricated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

over the loss of Ofelia contrasts to Ofelia s happiness and fulfillment in the virtual world. The
blood dripping down could be considered to represent human mortality whilst implying that the

  • 2. The Influence Of Food On Food Food has acted as a huge influence on our world and has shaped both our politics and our economy into what they have become today. The book An Edible History of Humanity , described the influence of food on ancient civilizations and how it continued to mold politics and economics as time went on. Parts two and three specifically described the origins of food s influence on politics and economics, and then continued on describing how humanity began using food to expand and grow. Civilizations in both parts took advantage of tradeto gain power, and also used trade to further boost their economies, however they went to different lengths to achieve these things so the outcomes were varied. Both parts feature civilizations looking to gain power through use of food. Part two speaks of the emergence of Big Men; a man who had won the control of the food transfers and trade within the group of people he lived with. Big Men would keep the food moving; doing favors for people with the expectation that it would be returned down the road. The average Big Man was only in it for the respect, because while he constantly had food and goods in his possession, they were all traded off almost as quickly as they came in so he didn t get to keep much for himself or his family at all. More often than not, he was worse off than his customers. As time passed, Big men evolved into Elites, who instead of trading off all of their surpluses, they ate part of their surpluses and used the rest to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Omer Seamon is a 1987 watercolor by Indianan native, whose work primarily consists of landscape watercolors, working as a freelance artist. Painted for the purpose of delight, October Sun depicts a beautiful fall day that draws the viewer into its frame. For the sake of analysis, I am using formal evaluation to discuss the formal elements and principles of design that make this watercolor so compelling. The use of oranges, yellows, reds, pale greens, and browns for the leaves anchors the painting in the fall, giving the paint a tangible quality. Background information about Peter Saint Peter the Apostle, original name Simeon, or Simon (died AD 64, Rome), disciple of Jesus Christ, recognized in the early church as the leader of the disciples and the Roman Catholic Church as the first of its unbroken succession of popes. Peter a fisherman, was called to be a disciple of Jesus at the beginning of his ministry. He received from Jesus an Aramaic appellation Cephas which means Rock. This was translated into Greek as Petros (from the Greek Petra, rock ) and became a Latin Petrus and the English Peter. Jesus told Peter he was the Rock upon whom the Christian Church would be built. Throughout the public life of Jesus, Peter is represented in the Gospel as the Spokesman and principal member of Jesus followers. He is the first named in the entire list given of these followers and was present with a privilege at few special occasions, example, the daughter of Jairus brought back to life by Jesus. He was also the first to see Jesus after his resurrection from the dead. Peter baptized the Roman pagan Cornelius and at the council of Jerusalem he gave his support to preaching to gentiles. Tornillo 1994, believes that a student with extensive needs placed in an inclusion setting are not getting appropriate, specialized attention and care, and the regular students education is disrupted constantly. Tornillo 1994, also argues that teachers are required to direct excessive attention to a few students, thereby decreasing the amount of time and energy dissected towards the rest of the class. Therefore, the mandates for greater academic accountability and achievement are unable to be met. Mauro 2009 indicates placement in a self contained classroom or special school means that the child would be removed from the general school population for all academic subjects to work in a controlled setting with a specialized teacher. Students in self contained programs or special schools may be working at all different levels, with different textbooks, and different curricula. Self contained classes and special schools offer structure, routine, and appropriate expectations according to Mauro 2009. If protein deficiency is continued, this could lead to muscle deterioration, digestive problems and severe weight loss. Eating too few carbohydrates can cause the body to find another source for energy, such as protein which is needed for energy and muscle tissue. Additionally, carbohydrates are the primary source for glucose that is needed for the brain to function properly. Consuming to few lipids does not provide the necessary energy needed for the body, which decrease metabolism and hormone production. Fiber Intake Ranges The fiber intakes meet the recommendation calculated by I Profile. Since the recommendation was met, I believe that the fiber intake was just right. However, I do not believe that my diet met the minimum number of servings of food from each of the fiber containing groups. I believe that the both groups for fruits and vegetables fell short of the minimum number of servings. The specific foods that provided the most fiber were pasta, and a bagel. Whereas, the foods that provided the least were the BBQ chips, Croissant, sausage. It appears that the trend in my food choices is that there are not enough fruits and vegetables, which affects my fiber intake. Dietary Modifications The identifiable patterns are that there is not enough consumption of balanced food choices, not eating regularly and that processed food is selected more often.

These Infrastructures are not only dictated by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, but by Public health agencies at the state and local level or by private and public organizations. They must first assess by observing the health status of a community, identifying the health issues and providing solutions. Next, they must develop policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts, enforce law and regulations to ensure health safety. • 9. The Benefit Of Bilingualism Benefits of Bilingualism In modern society, owning a place in the bilingual community is a special trait that allows for people to have a true connection with one another. Bilingual is a term describing people who can speak more than one language, and with more than 7000 languages inhibiting the world, the demand for bilingual speakers is steadily growing (Okal, 2014). The number of people who speak more than one language is increasing world wide as it is estimated that over a billion people in the world speak more than one language fluently (Okal, 2014, p. 226). With that being said, some studies show that approximately one in five Americans speak a language other than English at home, and that is just in the United States alone. Moreover, the number of people who are able to speak more than one language is more than likely going to exhibit an increase in the near future as well (Callahan Gandara, 2014). Along with an increase in speakers, an increase in demand for these speakers will increase too. Bilingualism opens the gateway to opportunities and benefits for people all around the world. However, many people do not see the importance of increasing the spread of bilingual speakers throughout the nation s communities. Without these bilingual speakers, various people and their neighborhoods would not be able to communicate with one another because of the large language barrier sitting between them. That is why being bilingual contains many benefits, including its brain improvements, career benefits, and social skill boosts that will help out the speaker and his or her listeners in the long run. Opposing Viewpoints Of course, the art of being bilingual may display a few faults. One of these faults may be that both languages can be present at the same time, which means that when a bilingual person hears a word, he or she is able to make a connection with both languages based on the sounds. In a study by Dr. Viorica Marian and Anthony Shook (2012), the authors explain how bilingual speakers connect sounds with both languages. For instance, if an English and Spanish bilingual speaker hears the word to to, his or her brain may instantly try to find words in both languages containing the sound to gives ... There are kids from the high schoolband to the math club to the varsity football team who make up this crew. I learn from these young men and let them teach me different things about each of their cultures that without rugby I might never have learned. When I consider each teammate, despite different ethnicities and backgrounds, I see that they are no different than me. I have learned to respect people not for where they come from or what they believe in, but for who they are and how they conduct themselves as a young man. With that being said, I still have the utmost respect for each individual s personal beliefs and history. The USA also dropped the atom bomb on Japan without consulting the USSR. Stalin was very irritated that Truman did not tell the USSR about the atomic bomb until the last minute. This created a belief in the USSR that the bombs had been dropped as a warning to the Russians. In 1946, Britain and the USA agreed to unite their zones in Germany for economic purposes. Germany made the mistake of only packing for a month s worth of supplies and the rapid advance across Russia had spread the German tanks thin and undersupplied. Also, the muddy terrain made it very hard for the tanks and other German vehicles to advance. The Germans had underestimated the real strength and fortitude of the Soviet Union army. Taking advantage of the turning momentum, the Soviet army began to repel the undersupplied German army. Hitler s generals recommended they stop fighting until spring, but Hitler declined the request and forced them to keep pushing through the winter. The main reason Hitler forced his army to keep going was because he wanted the oil and the grain fields that Leningrad and Moscow would give him. With all this happening, Hitler lost focus on his original goal of destroying the Soviet Army. Manufacturing methods, such as a wholly owned subsidiary; owning and controlling a factory in China, a strategic alliance and licensing agreements have been analysed in detail. The evidence shows that moving part of the business to China as a wholly owned subsidiary, whilst keeping its headquarters in Melbourne would be the most beneficial long term option. A wholly owned subsidiary in China would consequently be ideal, so long as it is a strategic /tactical long term plan. A strategic alliance is defined as where two or more independent organisations set up a co operative partnership to gain mutual strategic advantage. (Bartol, K, Tein, M, Matthews). This option would involve JT Toys aligning itself with a pre existing Chinese manufacturing company, and using each other s strengths for a mutual advantage. The Chinese company could produce toys with their cheaper labour and production costs, while using the established brand of JT Toys, as well as their vision and successful standing in the Australian market. • 47. Emmett Till Reflection 1.The whole story and trial of Emmett Till was probably one of the most saddest stories I have heard about. What surprised me most is the reason why they killed Emmett. This just showed how much blacks were looked down upon. Nowadays, women get whistled at all the time by all different types of men. This is just a rude gesture to whistle at a women, however we wouldn t brutally murder them. What also surprised me was how they killed him. The murderers did not have to savagely kill him. This changed my view on history and actually opened my eyes. I think we need to be better educated on the subject that everybody tries to ignore. 2.During the trial, businesses put out jars to collect money for the defense of the two murderers. This shows that everyone was on the murderers side. The community views the white race as the superior race, and that is why the murderers were not guilty. Society then, was not a time that we should be proud of. Those murderers should have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If I could interview those children now when they are around 60, I would ask why did they do that? Pretending to shoot someone and laugh, what did that symbolize and what did that mean to them? I would also ask how they viewed race growing up. What was race to them? I would also ask what if it was the year 2015, would they still do that as kids? I would expect them to be surprised about the first question. As children, we do not understand what we are doing, but we should know right from wrong and laughing at someone, pretending to kill them is unacceptable. I would expect them to answer what it meant to do that and I think they would explain that they were only kids and that it was a different time and society in 1955. I would expect them to answer how they felt about race growing with obviously saying that the colored people were looked down on. If they were to do that now in 2015, they probably would not do that in the first place, it is a completely different time period and everyone is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. A Research Study On Relational Database Technology Abstract. In this report I will introduce the Memcached technology and provide more details about it. In addition, I will explain how it works and how it differs than relational database technology. Furthermore, I will use the finding of the paper Performance Evaluation of a Clustered Memcached to present how Memcached can improve the performance of the web applications. The paper that I did study is about a simulation project of using three different architectures of Memcached. The simulation results will monitor the CPU and RAM usability of all the nodes in these three architectures. I will explain the results and will discuss the findings of their results. The relational database technology dominated the web applications for more than 30 years. This technology is able to handle limited load to the database. However, the internet technologies and the advents of the smart phones make the web applications to be accessible by many users and from any location that is covered by the internet connectivity. In addition, currently, the web data in the internet is dominated by the social networking and social media applications which include: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and others. This kind of web applications will likely be prone to the high load of the database layer. As a result, it was not possible for the relational database technology to handle the database load for such applications. Even scaling out the application servers will not solve the database load ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. My Strengths Weaknesses My Strength and Weakness Everyone is different in many ways. There are differences in gender, nationality, religious activities and there are differences in strengths and weaknesses. Those strengths and weaknesses are looked at in Corporate America and they assist the higher management in making decisions for the roles we play on each team. I will be discussing my strengths and weaknesses. Over the years, I have learned how to react and respond in different ways and it all depends on what is happening in my surroundings. I owe a lot of this to my 11 years of military service. The military trains you in a way that once you are done with their training; you will walk, talk and act as a soldier is supposed to act. There are times when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Procrastination and being laid back are two of my biggest weaknesses. The behavior has minimized since assuming the leadership role with Bank of America. I always would take on tasks and do them at months end then I would find myself working 18 hour days to complete what could have been started at the beginning of the month. One of the good things that my leadership has in place is a daily pulse check. This enables us to see where we stand as a leadership team and to ensure that no task goes undone. At the beginning, I continually pushed back on completing my tasks and there was always a rush at months end to complete all assigned tasks. After leaving the Army 10 years ago, I also procrastinated on my higher education until recently. I kept on stating that there was little or no time to complete my higher education. After several job declines due to not having a degree; I decided to take the step and finish my degree. Being too open or showing feelings at the work place is another weakness that I do carry. With my military background I have been lead to believe that your squad is like family and things are to be discussed just in case we ever did go to war I would know what would motivate the soldier in a time of crisis. I have bought this thought with me into Corporate America and it has come to hurt me as bringing in your personal life into the workplace. When I was going through the crisis with my mother; I worked in the Spanish Department and my manager ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Medical Marijuana And Medical Therapy Medical marijuana refers to the use of cannabis as medical therapy in the palliative sense to treat diseases or alleviate symptoms. This treatment modality has proven to be a highly debatable issue within the medical field due to the use of this substance as an illicit drug. The National Youth Risk Behavior Survey monitors priority health risk behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death, disability, and social problems among youth and adults in the United States (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012). The most recent survey conducted on ninth through twelfth grade students in public and private schools throughout the United States indicated that in 2011, a mean of 39.9% of participants reported ever using marijuana one or more times during their lives (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012). Although this substance has been most often used for recreational purposes, recent studies have shown that an increasing number of people are fighting to have legislation passed in order for the use medicinal marijuana to be made legal. The populations most affected by such legislation include those positively affected by the use of medical marijuana, patients suffering from chronic and debilitating illnesses, and those who utilize the drug for other reasons associated with recreation and personal pleasure. The issue highlights the beneficial aspect of marijuana use detailing symptom management and improving overall quality of life; and conversely, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Pan s Labyrinth Essay Jean Baudrillard s theory of hyperreality focuses on how people have become immersed in the media and these false replications of reality. These simulacra meaning a fake copy of something become the central point in our lives. In Pan s Labyrinth, the young protagonist Ofelia creates a simulated world in her own imagination to escape the reality of her ill mother and having to move in with her cruel new stepfather, Captain Vidal. This world is a simulation of reality a fantasy world that exists inside the real world. Ofelia is unable to discern the fake world from the real world, resulting in the audience also not being able to differentiate between the two, especially as it is told primarily through her perspective. As the story progresses it becomes more apparent that her world is merely imagined, and at the end it is still left slightly ambiguous to the audience as to whether it was all Ofelia s imagination or not. Ofelia lives through the illusory world throughout the majority of the film, up to and after the real world the original copy is destroyed. It could be considered that we live through our screens just as Ofelia does through her fantasy esque world. However, the difference is that Ofelia s imagined fake reality is more of a coping mechanism. She escapes into a fabricated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
