The Pros And Cons Of Solar And Wind Energy
According to President Barack Obama, There is one issue that will define the contours of this
century more dramatically than any other, and that is the urgent threat of a changing climate. The
main reason for global warming is the increment of using fossil fuels as a key source of energy
across the board, so some developed countries have started to transform the non renewable power
sources to renewable resources. Solar and wind energysystems are two kinds of renewable source
of energy. Even if solar and wind powerdiffer in methods of generating power, they bring similar
benefits to the society and environment.
Solar and wind energy have different processes to produce electricity. Solar energy creates
electricity by making large amounts of heat, which is conducted through electrical conductors and
changed into electrical power. In most solar systems, solar panels mounted on the roof. These
panels contain photovoltaic cells made from silicon that convert incoming sunlight into electricity
instead of heat. ( Photovoltaic means electricity from light photo = light, voltaic = electricity.) The
photons of the sunlight knock the electrons from the silicon, as a result, the negatively electrons
accumulate in one side of the silicon cell to create electrical voltage. This current form
photovoltaic array and flows through PV array cables, which are terminated in one fused array
combiner box. It is designed to protect the PV cell cables, and to deliver DC (Direct Current)

The Assassinations Of Lincoln And The Alienation Of...
The assassination of Abraham Lincoln further alienated the North and the South after the Civil
War because his death did not allow his plan for reconstruction to go through and unify them. On
the evening on April 14, 1856, President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes
Booth, who had already attempted to kidnap Lincoln twice already, while attending the play of
Our American Cousin at Ford s Theater. Sitting with him were Mayor Henry Rathbone and his
fiancГ©e, Clare Harris. While watching the play, Booth sneaked into the box the president, a
knife in his left hand and a pistol in his right. Booth shot the president in the back of the head,
slashed Rathbone across the arm, and jumped off the balcony. Booth caught his leg on a flag on
the way down and broke his leg. Lincoln was carried to a boarding house next door and died the
next day. President Lincoln was the first president to be assassinated in United Stateshistory. John
booth escaped, sought medical attention for his wounded leg, and fled into the Virginia country
side. Union troops found the barn he was hiding in, surrounded it, set it on fire, and shot Booth as
he attempted to escape ( The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln, 34f). The president s body was
taken by train to Springfield, Illinois, where he was then buried. Accomplices of Booth s were
tried for their part in trying to assassinate other leaders, such as the Vice President and the
Secretary of War. Others were tried in court for attempting to aid

The Pros And Cons Of Sieges
The use of sieges as a tactic of war is not always condemned. Sieges are tolerated under
international humanitarian law as long as they are in compliance with all applicable regulations
and their purpose is to achieve a military objective, such as the capture of an uninhabited enemy
controlled area. However, a siegeshould not target civilianobjects or cause any damage to the
civilian population. In fact, individuals taking no active part in hostilities should always receive
humane treatment. To that end, there are some IHL rules that need to be respected in siege
warfare in order for it to be permissible. The wounded and the sick must evacuate the area and be
cared for. Diplomats and citizens of neutral States residing in a besieged area... Show more content

In a siege of low or moderate intensity, one can potentially smuggle in limited amounts of
supplies or buy them on the black market for elevated prices. Residents may have access to
alternative food sources such as the local agricultural production. The UN and other
humanitarian organizations may manage to negotiate few, if any, aid deliveries but the
assistance that does pass in is rarely enough for the besieged population. Civilians in these areas
are at some risk of malnourishment or dehydration and denial of medical care. The areas are
sporadically subject to attacks by besieging forces. In a siege of high intensity, very little is able to
enter through smuggling or bribery while alternative food sources are not available. The UN and

Family Systems Theory Paper
Family Systems
Ja Keitha Brown
Liberty University
Family systems play an intricate role in human development for children. To understand how it all
works together, family must be defined. According to Merriam Webster, a family is defined as a
group of people living under one roof and usually under one head. (2015). One person could
interpret this definition, as a family being mother, father and child or children however, to someone
else that definition could be completely different. Their definition of family could include
grandparents, aunts, uncles or cousins. There will also be children that grow up in same sex
families that will define their family system differently.
The family systems theory conceptualizes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When someone becomes a parent they have the chance to either continue what they have learned
and felt worked for them or they can go a different route or decide to raise a loving child.
Proverbs 22:6 says, train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from
it . Each parent prays that their child will not turn away from the values and love they have instilled
in them over the years. It is definitely a blessing for those parents who raise their children that do
not turn away from everything they have taught them throughout the years as well as watching
them install those same values into their children. This is allowing the family system to continue on
generation after

The Pathophysiology Of Asthma
Asthma is a common disease that affects approximately 300 million children and adults worldwide
(Arshad, S. H., Babu, K. s., 2009). It leads to rising healthcare costs and reduces the quality of life
in a person due to the restrictions that a person has depending on the type of asthma. Doctors who
can treat asthmaare called Pulmonologist, and an Immunologist. It is important to know the
pathophysiology, clinical manifestation and medical management to properly treat the disease.
Pathophysiology
Asthma is a chronic disease that affects the breathing tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs.
(Arshad, S. H., Babu, K. s., 2009). Asthma is sometimes referred to as bronchial asthma. With
asthma, the airways are inflamed, therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not everybody s body responds the same to medications. Medications for asthma are categorized in
three categories: anti inflammatory, bronchodilators, and leukotriene modifiers, (Types of Asthma,
n.d.). Anti inflammatory agents, suppress inflammation. Bronchodilators relax smooth muscle
contraction which helps with the narrowing of the bronchial tubes. Leukotrienes interrupt the
chemical signaling inside the body that can lead to inflammation and constriction. One kind of anti
inflammatory is a corticosteroid. This the most potent and effective kind. A anti inflammatory that
is commonly prescribed to children is called Cromolyn Sodium and Nedocromil (Types of
Asthma, n.d.). Inhalers are also used in the treatment of asthma. Two types of inhalers are long
term and quick relief. Long term inhalers help for longer periods of time and quick relief is a in
the moment type of thing. Providers recommended decreasing being around allergens that can
trigger asthma. When patients are taking medications, sometimes they begin to feel better and show
no symptoms for some time, but this is confusing to them. They see it as oh I m better I can stop
taking my medication. That is not the case because asthma can flare up

Essay about Aboriginal People of Canada
Aboriginal people represent less than 3% of the total population in BC. Yet, they account for more
than 9% of all suicides in BC (Chandler). The numbers of suicides amongst aboriginal youth are
even more alarming nearly one fourth of all youth suicides in BC are committed by aboriginals and
more than half of all aboriginal suicides are committed by youth (Chandler). The fact that
indigenous communities in Canada have the highest rate of suicideof any culturally identifiable
group in the world implies that these alarming statistics may not solely be a result of aboriginal
communities belonging to a minority cultural group. I will attempt to build a speculative
hypothesis behind the significantly high suicide rates amongst aboriginal... Show more content on

This theory predicts that there are two components to suicide. First off, perception of burdening
others and feeling socially alienated combine to result in the desire to die. However, an individual
will not act on this desire unless he/she has developed a capability to do so. Capability to commit
suicide is developed through habituation from overexposure which perhaps desensitizes the
individual to experiences that are painful. This may be vital in allowing the individual to overcome
innate instincts for survival and prepare him/her to act on the desire to die. Aboriginal people in
Canada have undergone tremendous acculturation and marginalization (failing to acquire and value
Aboriginal values and identity, while also failing to identify with the cultural values of the larger
society) which may be responsible in making them perceive themselves as a burden to others and
feel socially alienated. Such feelings, based on the interpersonal psychological theory, might instil
the desire to die. Habituation and as a result, desensitization to the fear and pain associated with a
suicidal experience, could be occurring due to high rates of suicide in one s community. Thus, the
interpersonal psychological theory provides some insight into aboriginal suicide. However, the
picture is incomplete as this explanation could be applied to suicide amongst patients

Racial Identity In Maus
Art Spiegelman, the author of Maus 1: My Father Bleeds History and Maus 2: A Survivor s Tale:
And Here My Troubles Began, conveys many messages through his black and white illustrations
in his graphic novels. Spiegelman uses a system of representation based on racial identity to
portray his characters. The use of the mouse and cat can be seen throughout the novel to
represent the characters, enabling Spiegelman to convey the complexity of each character. There
is a constant reference to identity shown reoccurring in the novels. The use of masks can be seen
to achieve a point of pretending to be someone else. Eyes can tell a lot about one s characteristic.
Spiegelman utilizes the use of eyes through the novel to show feelings. His use of racial identity
by the motif of the cats and mice, the eyes, and the masks communicates the horrors of the
Holocaust in such way words cannot describe alone. The most visible symbol seen throughout the
graphic novels was the use of animals being given human like characteristics. One of the most
effective ways Spiegelman uses to tell the story of Mauswas the representation of the Jews as mice,
and the Nazi Germans as cats. Jews characterized by mice were meant to represent quiet
creatures; they are small and harmless. On the other hand, the Nazi were characterized by cats.
They are powerful, malevolent, and sly. This motif of cats and mice shows how powerful the cats
were and how powerless the mice were. Cats are predators of the mice.

Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism And Christianity Comparison
Practices of Hinduism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity Comparison
Hinduism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity developed centuries ago and have been
practiced since then to today. Groups of people who practice these religions are bound to the
conventional norms, beliefs, cultures and way of life of each. Each religion has a particular faith
in a supreme being (Woodhead, Partridge Kawanami, 2016). Muslims believe in Allah, Christians
believe in Jesus Christ, Hindus believe in multiple Gods (Coomaraswamy, 2011) and Buddhism
follower s belief in various Gods and their enlightened priests especially the most high priests
Buddha Almond, P. C. (2007). All these religions regard their places of which as sacred places

These names are regarded as holy and therefore belong to the religious leaders only and not
ordinary members of the faith. In Hindu religion, the leaders are referred to as the Brahmins, or
in other words, they are regarded as the priestly class. In Buddhism, the members of the clergy
include monks, Dalai Lama, no rituals, Gods or Priests (Kurien, 2007). To the common Christian
religion, the members of the clergy include the priests, preachers, Bishops, and Popes. In the
Islamic religion, they are referred to as the Prophets (Medina Khadduri Liebesny, 2010). These
groups of people played a significant role in ensuring the religion spreads and that people learn the
doctrines of the faith.
Contrast
Hinduism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity developed among different groups in the
world. Hinduism developed in the 19th century in Indonesia by the people of Hindu (Woodhead,
Partridge Kawanami, 2016). Islam was born off the people of Umma who were tied together by
the Islamic religion. Christians trace its root in the Jewish community in Middle East who follow
the teachings of Jesus Christ the son of their most supreme being God and Buddhism was founded
by Siddhartha Gautama in India (Woodhead, Partridge Kawanami, 2016).
Unlike Islam and Christianity who are monotheistic in that they believe in one Allah and God
respectively.

A New Social Contract for Health Care Insurance Costs Essay
A New Social Contract for Health Care Insurance Costs The new social contract between the
health care system and employers, patients, and the government has given everyone involved
some breathing room. They have provided a clearer picture of the costs of health care; however,
it is evident that there is still work to be done regarding the transparency of complete and exact
costs. For example; all hospitals have a price list called the chargemaster that includes nearly
20,000 health care procedures. The prices on this list are the prices that patients will most likely see
on their bills; however, the terms are not standardized and many are bundled services that make it
difficult to compare them with other institutions. It is obvious... Show more content on

This would level out the premium costs a little better than premium charges being based on the
number of employees who work at a company. Flipping the script, I will now discuss my new
social contract between the citizenry and the state. I certainly believe that the state should have
some responsibility to help with health care costs; however, I also think citizens should take
responsibility for themselves as well. For example; people who are employed should pay their
share of the premium cost based on the amount they make per year, so if one employee brings home
more than another, they should pay a higher share of the amount of their premium. Moreover, an
employee making minimum wage should have some help from the state to pay part of their
premium cost. Also, each individual s last employer should continue to provide them with their
same insurance plan until they find new employment. As far as State health insurance coverage such
as the Medicaid and Medicare programs, they should continue to provide health coverage to the
underprivileged and the elderly. In brief summary, the New Social Contract effort is about
describing the problems we face, in this case, conflicts in the health care systems. Whether the cost
of health care is not clearly seen by patients, or the costs of health care insurance is too

Shrew Vs Biancate
Touchstone Picture s 1999 film Ten Things I Hate About You is an adaptation of the eminent
playwright William Shakespeare s 16th century comedy The Taming of the Shrew. The plots follow
a key idea where, Bianca will be allowed to become romantically entangled when Katerina does,
through this key concept the cast encounters many issues and adventures. The productions share
similar plots, this is achieved through the construction of the characters, settings and themes.
Through the construction of the characters the plots of both the play and the film are developed.
This is evidenced by discussing the similarities between the characters in the film and the play such
as, Patrick and Petruchio, Kat and Katerina and Bianca. The main protagonists... Show more content

One such similarity that can be seen is her name, as Bianca s name in the film was transferred
straight from the play when the adaptation was created. Other similarities include her suitors and
her personality underneath her innocence. In both the play and the film Bianca is portrayed as a
naive prize that must be won, however what makes her such a complex character is not her
innocence but what lies underneath. Throughout the whole film Bianca constantly surprises
everyone with deep insights such as, when discussing the difference between liking and loving
Bianca: You know, there s a difference between like and love
. I like my Skechers, but I love my
Prada backpack. Chastity: But I love my Skechers. Bianca: That s because you don t have a
Prada backpack. Even simply ideas like this show the hidden depth of the character. However,
when it comes to Bianca s sister Kat she, like everyone around her assumes that my sisters a
particularly hideous breed of looser and doesn t realise why Kat is the way she is. until a fight
with Kat about her mother s pearls takes an interesting turn towards Bianca s relationship with
Joey, when Kat tells Bianca the reason for her acting out of the norm is because an
uncomfortable encounter with Joey. Furthermore, in the play Bianca doesn t have as many
insights as such, however many quotes suggest that Bianca is by no means short of whits. One
such quote being, Katerina and Bianca s are arguing about who Bianca shall marry is it for him
you do envy me so? Nay, then you jest, and now I well perceive you have but jested with me all
this while. Additionally, many similarities can be seen in Bianca s relationship with Joey in the
film and with Hortensio and Gremio in the play. Some of these similarities include Joey, Hortensio
and Gremio s intensions concerning a relationship with Bianca as well as the

Personality Traits That Make Up The Big Five Traits
Neuroticism, agreeableness, extraversion, openness, and conscientiousness are the five personality
traits that make up the big five traits. Everyone in the world has theses traits in their personality
but have a variation in how strong they are in them. After learning in greater detail about the two
ends of the spectrums people can be at or in between we took the BFI to find out where we are on
the bell curve for the big five traits. Then we compared our scores with four hundred and fifty nine
other female Luther students to determine our percentiles in the BFI traits. In emotional stability
(ES), I ranked in the thirtieth percentile. Since the big five uses neuroticism(N) which is the
opposite of emotional stability I scored in the seventieth percentile for N. One with this
personality usually experiences lots of negative effects, and is more prone to having irrational
ideas, less able to cope well to stress, and control their impulses. Second in the big five traits is
agreeableness (A), my percentile for this is in the fifth percentile. People in the middle of the bell
curve do not lean one way or another but use a combination of the two spectrums. A person high in
A is sympathetic to others and eager to lend them a helping hand. Compared to someone on the
opposite side of the bell curve who is egocentric, skeptical of others intentions, and competitive
rather than cooperative. Additionally, one low in A are usually science minded and will follow the
data shown.

What Motivates Employees Essay
How do you get things done in an organization? First, you must have managers who can delegate to
employees. Effective managers have the ability to get things done through other people. This is
accomplished by motivating employees to accomplish tasks. A manager must be able to delegate
these tasks to employees. The technique a manager uses to motivate employees to work for him,
will either motivate or dissatisfy employees. Motivated employees will work with the manager to
achieve company goals. Those employees who are dissatisfied will work against company goals.
It wasn t that long ago that employees were considered just another input into the production of

This style is involved with the charisma, ability to inspire motivation,..., and ability to relate to
others. (Davidhizar 1997, 17) The encouragement the manager offers must be genuine or else it is
perceived as a form of manipulation. Some employees see non genuine encouragement as
management being fake and trying to get one over on them. This will make the managers job much
more difficult. Encouragement doesn t cost the company anything and it s in all managers best
interest to practice it freely and regularly.
Transformational leadership is about empowerment, cooperation and shared responsibilities.
(Davidhizar 1997, 20) So managers must be comfortable with all forms of encouragement. Also,
when positive actions are encouraged those actions are more likely to be repeated. Many managers
only punish negative behavior never reinforcing positive behavior. When employees are constantly
punished they learn not to vary from what is safe. Managers that reprimand are usually the type of
managers that leave very little of an employees job to the imagination. This type of management
style leads to employees being unmotivated, because the job doesn t let them use their abilities.
Many managers believe that punishment will stop undesirable behavior, punishment doesn t
necessarily assure the behavior will not happen again. It will most likely lead to employees only
exhibiting behavior that attracts praise and reward and

Funerals In Ancient Roman Funerals
During all parts of the existence of Rome, burials and funerals were extremely important, even more
so than weddings. The Romans believed that without a proper burial, a spirit would cause
unhappiness for those living. While rites varied throughout different periods, traditions remained
vastly, and always had the same importance. Funeralceremonies were extremely elaborate,
especially for upper class citizens. Funerals had five parts in Ancient Rome; the procession, the
cremationand burial, the eulogy, the feast, and the commemoration. Ceremonies began closely
after death, as soon as all necessary preparations were made. At the home, the deceased s body
would be washed with warm water and then anointed. If the deceased person had held office, a
wax impression of his features would be taken. Next, the body would be dressed in in a toga
with all the regalia of the rank he was allowed to wear. Incense would be burned and pine woul
dbe places outside the door to signify death in the house. In early and late times, when burial was
more popular than cremation, a coing would be placed in between the teeth of the deceased, as
payment for Charon, the ferryman of the underworld. These rites were simplified in poorer
funerals, as well as done by a family member. However, for the rich, an undertaker, or designator,
would do so().
The funeral procession took up the bulk of the ceremony, and stretched from the deceased s home
all the way to their grave. Graves were not allowed to be

A Visit to Cades Cove Essay
A Visit to Cades Cove
Having lived in the Blount County area all my life, I have taken many weekend trips with my
family and friends to Cades Cove, a beautiful place situated in The Great Smokey Mountains.
Here you can drive the eleven mile trail (visiting the homes of people who once resided in Cades
Cove), picnic in the park, and camp out for the weekend. Cades Cove contains a lot of history as
well as beautiful sites.
Located near the Townsend entrance to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, the cove is a

may seem long, but it is well worth the drive, just to escape the hectic college life. Cades Cove is

The springhouse would provide people with water and would also serve as a refrigerator. From
here, I would drive to the Cable Mill area, which is my favorite. It contains the Mill, the Mill
race, and the Dam. There is a blacksmith shop, a barn, and a sorghum mill as well in this area. It
started out as the home of Gregg Cable in 1879 and later became the home of Becky Cable. The
last site is the Henry Whitehead place. This cabin was made of mill sawn square logs and has a
brick chimney. An older one sits beside it. Ending your tour around the loop, you will find Sparks
Lane, a two way road that provides a shortcut back to the campground or an exit from the cove.
Although there is a great deal of history in the park, Cades Cove has a lot of things to offer its
visitors. There is so much to do as far as recreation is concerned. A number of people enjoy
fishing, hiking, horseback riding, backpacking, camping, sightseeing, and taking nature walks.
Cades Cove offers many trails for people who enjoy hiking. Most of these trails lead you to the
cabins if you choose to walk instead of drive. My favorite trail is the one up to Look Rock. Here
you can look out over all the mountains and the city. If you like photography, then it is a good
idea to bring your camera along with an extra role of film so you can take pictures of all the
wildlife. I, for example, have a picture of myself standing next to a deer.

Compare And Contrast This Is Water By David Foster Wallace
There were two pieces of text I recently read, one is This is water by David Foster Wallace, and
the other is Letters to a young poet by Rainer Maria Rilke. I will be discussing the contrast
between these two texts and tell the audience what they were precisely thinking about. For
Wallace, his passed commencement speech to share advice to people who here at a college
graduation. In his speech, he delivered the reality of how a typical adult life goes. His statement
also talked about decision making, and how all choices will impact our future growth. On the
other hand, Rilke conveys his ideas by writing the letter to one military student named Franz
Xaver Kappus. In the letter to a young poet, I mostly focused on letter eight, because he pays
attention to solitude and how it is essential to be a real artist. It is only through solitude that he
will learn personal truths, he told Kappus that he needs to trust his feelings and to face the
difficulty. Rilke talked about solitude in letter eight. As I grow older, I gradually understand that
everything will not be smooth, it is hard. There will be many things we cannot avoid, such as
solitude. Nowadays, solitude has already become a regular phenomenon in our daily life. For
example, when I walk on the street, I always see a person walking alone, eating alone, shopping
alone, or even goes to concerts alone. As Rilke said, Solitude it always becomes clearer that this is
at the bottom, not something that one can take or

What Is The Cause Of Beethoven s Deafness
Did you know Beethoven began to lose His hearing and the cause of Beethoven s deafness is
unknown? But many people theorize it could have been caused by various things such as lead
poisoning (this lead poisoning would have been caused by Beethoven s love for wine), typhus,
competition taking Beethoven out of their way, or Beethoven immersing his head in cold water to
stay awake. Despite his hearing loss, Beethoven had a very interesting life. Beethoven s early life,
when Beethoven begins to lose his hearing, and his later life after he becomes deaf all shows what
an amazing musician he was. Ludwig van Beethovenwas born in Germany on December 16, 1770.
Ludwig van Beethoven had a mother and a father, with three siblings. Beethoven s father was a
musician who taught Beethoven how to play the piano and violin. However Beethoven s father
was not an exceptional man because of the fact that his dad would often pull Beethoven out of bed
in order to play the piano for his father s drinking buddies, and getting beat if he complained.
Ludwig went to school, but the time he actually spent in school gave him hardly any knowledge.
He couldn t continue his learning due to his family being poor. But when Beethoven s... Show more

Beethoven goes to a doctor for his hearing, he finds out he is losing his hearing permanently. The
effects of Beethoven becoming deaf are when he stopped going out with his friends, many people
thought he was rude, grumpy, and moody because he wouldn t usually respond back since he has
no idea what they are saying, Beethoven started dressing sloppy and from there on he would start
to care less about his appearance in front of others, and Beethoven stopped himself from committing
suicide. Instead of allowing deafness to overwhelm him, he started to continue playing and writing

A Book on The Sikh Militant in Somalia by Cynthia Mahmood...
During the 1990 s, Somalia had a famine crisis, which many Westerners labeled as a humanitarian
crisis. As always, the hegemon, which was the United States, stepped up to the plate and helped in
providing food for the starving Somalis. Seeing starving children drew Westerners to sympathize
with these individuals and they blamed the inept Somali government for not doing enough to help
its citizens. The intervention was meant to deliver food to the Somalia, but later that turned to
mission creep , the temptation commanders feel to chase success and perhaps glory around the next
corner by expanding their mandate and rolling over anyone in their way (Hoagland, 1: 1993). What

Often times, Western states do not intervene because, they believe in sovereignty and that these
nations have a right to rule themselves without outside interference. When Western nations do not
interfere, the result like many, is a bigger conflict (i.e. genocide) among local population and more
people die, many are displaced and become refugees. Similarly, Deborah Thomas book argues that
the violence in Jamaica is not passed from generation to generation, but due to the history of
colonization. Yet, many anthropologist, when doing their research, always see the violence in
Jamaica as something that has always been there, something that is innate. Ultimately, that has
influenced how the international community has viewed conflicts in Jamaica, that is, as a thing that
has always been a part of the nation and that we should not bother to get involved in it. In
conclusion, we always expect certain cultures to be, act, and behave a certain way. Until these

Leadership In The Last American Man
Following Footsteps: Leadership in The Last American Man
Parents set the perfect example of leadership while raising their own children, making their kids the
priorities of their lives by being able to protect and love them through any given situation. In
addition, many parents strive to make their children like themselves because nothing would be
better than a parent seeing another human being walking in their own footsteps. However, some
parents push their children to become exactly like them, making their own dreams come true
through their child. This makes it hard for the child to grow up and become an independent person
because they are too busy living the lives that their parents are making them live. In The Last

Eustace does not realize that what causes people to leave Turtle Island isn t the physical labor
but the psychological stress of losing their identity (216). Eustace is independent when he
ignores the expectations of his father because it is not very individualistic to become an exact
copy of anyone else. However later in Eustace s life, he expects other people to become just like
him by making them do what he wants all of the time, taking away their own individuality. This is
both oppressing and humiliating to Eustace s followers because they will have to become a
different people order to make Eustace aware of their own existence. This form of leadership is a
definite result of his instinct to copy the actions of his father. Eustace continues to act like his
father because he wants to copy the control his father had over him. During Eustace s horse trips
across the nation with his brother and his girlfriend, Eustace couldn t put his their needs first When
the stake of each of these journeys was so massive nothing less than the prize of getting his father s

own father. However, Eustace needs to know that although he thinks he needs to match his father s
level of leadership, it doesn t mean that he should treat other people the same way that his father
treated him. This is why Eustace has problems with relationships throughout his entire lifetime; he

How Does Charles Darnay Affect The Character Of Sydney Carton
How has the introduction of Charles Darnay s character impacted Sydney Carton s perception of
himself ? (Are Carton s realizations shown publicly, reflecting his true nature?)
The introduction of Charles Darnay s character drastically affected Carton s mental state of
character. Besides realizing the fact that they look so much similar, Carton found himself
unable to like Darnay s character. To Carton, Darnay becomes his constant reminder of what he
could have been, What a change you have made in yourself! A good reason for taking to a man,
that he shows you what you have fallen away from, and what you might have been! Change
places with him, and would you have been looked at by those blue eyes as he was. ( Dickens 89)
In the presence of his character, he begins to realize and think about his flaws thus accepting this
better version of his doppelgänger. What he is exposed to in his life is this frequent state of
being in the shadows. This is shown with Mr. Stryver who has Carton under his hands. Now with
the appearance of Darnay, his spotlight or recognition is covered again. What other sees is this

Ganga River Essay
The Ganges River, which is popularly known by its own Hindu name Ganga, is the symbol of
India s ancient culture and civilization. This river is the most sacred river in Hinduism. People
believe that taking a dip into the water of the Ganges will purify their souls from all committed
sins in the past, so they can go to heaven. The GangesRiver flows from the top of the southern side
of the Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhand. In the article, Ganges River, the author Jay Yett says,
The Ganges River flows about 2,500 kilometers across the Gangetic Plain and through a coastal
delta in Bangladesh to empty into the Bay of Bengal. Not only does it provide water to India, but
also to Bangladesh. The major cities that rely on the water of the Ganges are Varanasi, Kolkata,
Haridwar, Allahabad, Patna, Kanpur, and Ghazipur. Today, this river is one of the most polluted
rivers in the world. According to the article, Metal and Pesticide Pollution Scenario in Ganga
River System, Srikanta Samanta reports that there has been a huge increase in pollution compared
to the 9,000 tons in 2009. Since then, she reveals that approximately 22,000 tons of pesticides have
been pumped into the river basin (Samanta 355). Each year, thousands of bodies are cremated on
the banks of the river, with many being disposed of directly into the river. Furthermore, unwanted

Prose In Defoe s Robinson Crusoe
When Robinson Crusoe was first published in 1719, it was as an autobiography. Defoe had
omitted his name from the work, and instead titled it as the writings of Crusoe himself. And
people believed him. They believed in this outrageous, extraordinary adventure because it was
written in such an ordinary manner. Defoe s style of writing is of the everyday man; a man
simply trying to get all his thoughts down in one place. Prose is not what makes Robinson Crusoe
such a literary masterpiece the real genius of the novelis Defoe s ability to captivate his audience
and fool them into believing that what they are reading is reality.
There is no real structure, no logical end to Robinson Crusoe. In the words of Terry Eagleton, it is
merely a case of accumulating narrative. (Eagleton, 55) Defoe wrote rapidly; Robinson Crusoe is a

Crusoe s outlook is very much that of the everyday Englishman. He does not fully describe his
emotional reaction to some terrifying event, (Novak, 5) because he lives in a society wherein to
show one s feelings is to show weakness. Such soliloquies are reserved for the stage. Moreover,
Robinson Crusoe is not Shakespeare it contains no Immortal longings. (Shakespeare, 171)
Crusoe is ambitious, yes, but even his most lofty ambitions reside within the confines of his
society s ideology. Crusoe is a flawed character, but his flaws are not only the fatal hamartia of a
Greek tragedy. He is greedy and selfish, but such propensity of nature (Defoe, 3) is portrayed in
such a way that makes it seem acceptable because it was. Robinson Crusoe represents the zenith of
western civilisation; he is the quintessential economic man. Any evil influence (Defoe, 17) which

nature. One poem talks about how great it is to have a friend and that friend will care for you for
eternity. The other poem is talking about a friend that he has lost and this makes him so sad that he
cannot take it anymore. In these two poems they use a different type of imagery in them and it
makes them unique in their own way. These two works use different types of imagery and writing

In the Friendship Sonnet by William Shakespeare he talks about the hardship he has with a friend
and that a loss of that friend could hurt so much. In this poem he is saying that he has wasted a
lot of time with a friend and he feels depressed about that. In the first quatrain he is talking about
a man sweetly and silently reminiscing the experiences of the past. Also, he is experiencing
fierce pain for the wasted time and is hurting a lot. In the second quatrain of the sonnet the pain
is much more as he thinks about the people that will never be in his life ever again. This makes
him cry because the pain he experiences is relived again. In the third quatrain the debt of pain is
reopened and he must pay the entire amount again. In this poem he is basically crying about all
the friends that he has lost and this saddens him. In the end of the poem it is saying that if I just

The Death Of Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ was a spiritual and powerful man that sacrificed his own life for the sins of mankind.
The death of Jesus Christ, was complete torture and it resulted in a wrongful, distasteful, and
unbearable death that should ve never happened to begin with. Although, Jesus sadly left this earth
behind so soon because of all the cruel people who hated him and who didn t respect him or his
existence while he was on this earth whatsoever, Jesusstill remained relevant. As I further engaged
my knowledge about the deathof Jesus Christ, I began to notice that there was a strong, detailed,
and a powerful message behind his death that several people didn t seem to catch on to. In the
midst of his demise, he left a plethora of ideas and teachings for us to hold on to while living a
life through Christ. Here are some important thoughts to think about and delve into. Jesus Christ
taught us how to not be afraid of death and not to fear any other human being but God himself,
although it promotes not fearing others but God himself it also promotes forgiveness. There is
always a way to learn from mistakes to find a deeper meaning of happiness. When Jesus Christ
died on the cross, it was a mistake for everyone on this earth to learn from. What could be taken
from this is to realize and understand Jesus Christ s motives for his people and to turn your
mistakes into lessons. Jesus didn t die for no apparent reason, he sacrificed his only life and he
died for our sins. That right there

Hidden Truths in The Enormous Radio Essay
Hidden Truths in The Enormous Radio
John Cheever s The Enormous Radio represents the enormous amount of hidden truths in American
society of the 1940s. The problems with society during this time were hidden behind a facade of
goodness; however, this false innocence becomes visible through the radio owned by the Westcotts.
The radio causes the Westcotts to evolve from an innocent, naive pair who believe that everything
they see is real, into individuals who realize that appearances are deceiving.
Cheever develops the motif of innocence by details like Irene s wide, fine forehead upon which
nothing at all had been written (817). Cheever also includes the fact that Irene wore a coat of fitch
skins dyed to resemble mink ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the problems of their neighbors are broadcast into the Westcott s living room, the weather
outside begins to reflect the climate inside: There were hundreds of clouds in the sky, as though
the south wind had broken the winter into pieces and were blowing it north (821). The Westcott s
view of society and of themselves is being changed from a beautiful, solid picture of appearances
into many jagged, separate pieces that do not seem to fit together.
Richard Rupp asserts that the movement From external to internal sorrow is only a short,
inevitable step (109). This step of internalizing the sorrow occurs in several different situations.
The first one occurs when the Westcotts are returning from the dinner party. Irene says They re
really such nice people, aren t they? They have such nice faces. Actually, they re so much nicer
than a lot of the people we know (822). Irene is beginning to recognize that the people they know
have deceiving faces and are full of sorrow; however, the full recognition that these nice people,
along with her own family, are hiding secrets behind innocent faces as well, has not been
internalized quite yet. The second situation involves the discussion between Irene and Jim. Irene
says to Jim Life is too terrible, too sordid and awful. But we ve never been like that, have we,
darling? Have we? I mean, we ve always been good and decent and loving to one

one main argument that forced the creation of the Republican Party. The debate about the slavery
issues caused the creation of the Republican Party because majority of its members were against
slaver or against expanding slavery. The Republican Party became the party that focused on
principles, positions on a variety of issues and promised to change the laws in fundamental ways.
Abraham Lincoln became president as a Republican candidate and created the 13th amendment
which abolished slavery. Aside from the slavery issue, the Republican Party had the support of
northern businessmen, especially the owners of railroad and manufacturing corporations. The
southerner plantation owners and cotton growers feared higher protective tariffs on imported

Israel was one collective nation made up of twelve tribes; one tribe for each son of Jacob (and
one of Joseph). These twelve tribes were all resident turned slave to Egypt. The Jewish nation
prayed to the Lord their God and He released them from their bondage. They then conquered the
Promised Land which God had promised their ancestors. Over the course of several hundred
years the Jewish nation was a theocracy led by God and enforced by many Judges. One day the
people cried out for a king, just like all the other surrounding nations. Under Saul, David, and
Solomon Israel reached its pinnacle of success. It is here that the story takes an unfortunate
downward spiral.
Solomon was the wisest man to ever live; yet in his old age, he lost touch with God and his
people. He married many foreign women and accepted their gods as his own. In addition, he
enforced heavy taxes on his kingdom causing intense anger. It is here that God spoke through the

Jeroboam was an Ephraimite from Zeredah. He was a skilled young man who was put in charge

Education is the learning and development which results from this process of teaching or

Learning starts at home and the parents are their first teachers to their kids. When they are about

Movies Are The Power Of Movies In The World
You humans slaughter each other because of the color of your skin, or your faith, or your
politics, or for no reason at all, too many of you hate easily as you draw breath Magneto. This
quote was once said by the strongest villain in comic book history as he described humans in the
war against Mutans. Throughout the years comic books have become the beacon of hope
civilization needed to overcome the toughest of times. From the Civil war to Nuclear Warfare
heroes were created for the purpose of keeping children s happiness from fainting into darkness.
Batman, Superman, Thor, Hulk and She Thor were the beacon of light of my childhood and the
reason why I dreamt about a better civilization.
Comic books have the power to make even famous of people realize how amazing they are as
Nicolas Cage described Are modern mythology, they reflect our fears, embody our ideals, and
personalized our culture. Our civilization has created movies, books, action figures and tv shows
as they ingrained comic books into our everyday culture. We identify heroes by their persona as we
have become to known Superman as the man of steel and Batman as the Dark Knight these
characters have paved the way for new beginnings, ideals that weren t imaginable at the time they
were created.
Movies have the power to inspire us, create dreams but also change someone s views. I want you
to ask yourself why do movies inspire us? How can they make us believe in something that s not
real? The avenger

Weapons and Tactics of WWI and WWII
In WW1 and WW2, the weapons and tactics of war were very important towards the different
countries and sides. They each had a certain way of fighting and defending. In World War One, it
was harder for people because it was earlier in the 1900s. But, it was a little easier during World
War One because the weapons and tactics were amped up.
During World Warone, the weapons weren t all that great. But it was a time when a lot of new
weapons were introduced and used very much in a deadly way. They had rifles, gas, gigantic guns,
and many other things.
The weapons during this time includes guns, such as, rifles, machine guns, artillery and weapons
on tanks. Speaking of tanks, when ww1 started the first tank was introduced and was used as a
weapon and still is being used as a weapons. Some other weapons of this time period were
Mortars that were pressurized guns that pushed out little bombs. There were also gasses, but they
weren t very successful because they would blow up unexpectedly. Flamethrowers were also very
big for germans, they used them against the french and it definitely worked. One of the main things
that was used was aircraft. They took new ideas and turned them into weapons and new ways to get
around.
With the weapons came the tactics to World War One. The main warfare tactic was defensive
trenches. People made many trenches and hid in them. But they also stored weapons and fought
against people. They would shoot from inside the trenches, but then some people

Moving forward, Cho was released from his technical writing class due to his vulgar writing that

Comparing The Contributions Of Andrew Jackson And John Ross
In this situation I do not believe that there is a hero. As the first article states, there are two sides
to every story, and as it also states there are few saints in this tale. Despite Andrew Jackson s
positive contributions, such as insuring that Cherokees were given equal pay, he still
massacred thousands of Native Americans. He signed the Indian Removal Act, which prompted
the Trail of Tears, one of the darkest events in American History in which 13,000 Cherokees were
forced to walk miles from their homeland. It also resulted in the Florida Seminoles, a war lasting
nearly as long as the Iraq war. John Ross was not perfect as well. Though he actively fought for
the right of his people, he was a slave owner. It seems rather hypocritical for one to be fighting for
the rights of one group of people while treating another like nothing more than objects. Despite
this, John Ross did try and create change by working with allies that were white and by taking his
peoples case to the Supreme Court.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite winning the court case the Native American people s need and rights were completely
disregarded. Their homes were ripped away from them and their voices were silenced, as they
could not even vote at the time. I appreciated the idea that both Andrew Jackson and John Ross
should share the twenty dollar bill. There are two sides to this story in history and I believe both
should be accurately represented. We should definitely start to make our currency more diverse by
adding people of color and

Selfishness In The Grapes Of Wrath And Raging Bull
The Dangerous Effects of Selfishness within The Grapes of Wrath and Raging Bull John
Steinbeck and Martin Scorsese passionately created The Grapes of Wrath and Raging Bull
regarding the art of selfishness in an attempt to recreate problems that society faces today. In
today s society, the word selfishness is a synonym of evil; the image it produces is of a fierce
animal who tramples over others in order to achieve their goals, who cares for no one, and lives
only to gratify their immediate needs. In some instances selfishness is well founded and it s use
could be justified, however, in The Grapes of Wrath and Raging Bull, that is not the case. Often
selfishness is seen as one sided affecting only the victim but in both the movie and the... Show more

Selfishness will most often result in someone being hurt; however The Grapes of Wrath shows
how others selfishness can hurt those in need, while Raging Bull shows how the selfishness of a
human could result in his despair. The Grapes of Wrath shows the reader how being self centered
blinds you to the struggles that others face and could lead them to ultimate failure. The novel
follows the journey of the Tom Joad and his family for the majority of the story. As they travel
south in the hope of a better life they experience obstacles that appear to stop them from achieving
their goal. In The Grapes of Wrath the futility of the family s success is brought on by others
fighting against them; not economic and environmental issues like the reader would rightly assume.
They consistently face selfish beings that are trying to get themselves ahead without thinking of the
effect it could have on the poor family. All throughout the novel Steinbeck is showing the reader
how humans incessantly steal from each other in order to get ahead. The car salesman in Chapter
7 sell migrants broken cars for high prices; knowing they are unable to refuse because of their
determination to move south as well as most of them being evicted from their

Boston Sweatshirt Descriptive Writing
After a very tiring day all visiting the city of Boston, it was time to go back to the hotel. We got
to the hotel and went to our rooms to get ready for the dinner cruise. A majority of the girls if not
all of them, decided to buy sweatshirts. Back in our hotel room, Ana was trying on her
sweatshirt. I was unpacking and all of the sudden I hear Ana say something to me. Can you help
me? I can t get my sweatshirt over my head. Sure, I replied. I got over and try to help Ana get the

Ana asked. We then came to the conclusion that no one

Analysis Of Dylan Thomas And Elegy For My Father, Who Is...
Whenever reading a poem you can never really understand what the poem is trying to portray. To
understand the poem, most often it needs to be read multiple times. When reading any poem,
paying close attention to the grammar and rhyme schemes plays an important part in the
understanding. In this essay I will be comparing the poem writing by Dylan Thomas, Do not go
gentle into that good night and Andrew Hudgins Elegy for My Father, Who Is Not Dead . These
two poems can be found in our lecture book Thinking and Writing about Literature (T.W.L). Both
poems focus on their fathers, as their lives come closer to their death. Even though both poems are
centered around the death of their fathers, the poets have two different meanings of death.
Do not go gentle into that good night (pg268 269) To make an analysis of this poem I broke the
poem up into stanzas instead of lines. The first stanza consists of lines 1 3. The first stanza tells
the father to not give up and to keeping fighting. Thomas asks his father to not be so accepting to
death but to put up a fight. He uses the would rage to encourage his father to be forceful and
resistant to death. The second stanza, lines4 6, describes that wise men realize that death is
approaching. Thomas makes these wise men sound knowledgeable. He makes it know these wise
men do not just sit back and look death in the face, but they also fight. Lines 5 and 6, says that
these men they do not go gentle into the good night. In the next

The Importance Of Paid Domestic Work
Paid domestic work is defined as a person or individual who works within the employer s
household, expected to perform a variety of task including but not limited to child or elderly
care, cleaning and household maintenance. I will argue that the practice of paid domestic work
cannot be reformed and made equitable for three main reasons. The reasons are as follows: 1)
This form of work is not regarded as an actual job or employment by many 2) The practice of
domestic work is embedded in racial roots and practice 3) There isn t a market for individuals
volunteering to do paid domestic work. For the sake of this argument, I will focus on the care of
children as the only form of paid domestic work, particularly the children of privileged or upper
middle class families executed by women who are minorities. When thinking about a traditional job
with an employer and employee, nannies are not the first to come to mind. When working as a
nannyyou are expected to tend to three different things: the children, the house, and the lifestyle and
values of the employer. As explained by Hondagneu Sotelo, Parents hire nanny/housekeepers to do
work involving intimate care, yet many fundamentally resist the idea that these services require
monetary compensation (Hondagneu Sotelo 120). Although this job involves the worker partaking
in both physical and emotional labor, which isn t a requirement for other jobs, it is still seen as one
that isn t actually employment and shouldn t yield

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Solar And Wind Energy According to President Barack Obama, There is one issue that will define the contours of this century more dramatically than any other, and that is the urgent threat of a changing climate. The main reason for global warming is the increment of using fossil fuels as a key source of energy across the board, so some developed countries have started to transform the non renewable power sources to renewable resources. Solar and wind energysystems are two kinds of renewable source of energy. Even if solar and wind powerdiffer in methods of generating power, they bring similar benefits to the society and environment. Solar and wind energy have different processes to produce electricity. Solar energy creates electricity by making large amounts of heat, which is conducted through electrical conductors and changed into electrical power. In most solar systems, solar panels mounted on the roof. These panels contain photovoltaic cells made from silicon that convert incoming sunlight into electricity instead of heat. ( Photovoltaic means electricity from light photo = light, voltaic = electricity.) The photons of the sunlight knock the electrons from the silicon, as a result, the negatively electrons accumulate in one side of the silicon cell to create electrical voltage. This current form photovoltaic array and flows through PV array cables, which are terminated in one fused array combiner box. It is designed to protect the PV cell cables, and to deliver DC (Direct Current) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Assassinations Of Lincoln And The Alienation Of... The assassination of Abraham Lincoln further alienated the North and the South after the Civil War because his death did not allow his plan for reconstruction to go through and unify them. On the evening on April 14, 1856, President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, who had already attempted to kidnap Lincoln twice already, while attending the play of Our American Cousin at Ford s Theater. Sitting with him were Mayor Henry Rathbone and his fiancГ©e, Clare Harris. While watching the play, Booth sneaked into the box the president, a knife in his left hand and a pistol in his right. Booth shot the president in the back of the head, slashed Rathbone across the arm, and jumped off the balcony. Booth caught his leg on a flag on the way down and broke his leg. Lincoln was carried to a boarding house next door and died the next day. President Lincoln was the first president to be assassinated in United Stateshistory. John booth escaped, sought medical attention for his wounded leg, and fled into the Virginia country side. Union troops found the barn he was hiding in, surrounded it, set it on fire, and shot Booth as he attempted to escape ( The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln, 34f). Sieges are tolerated under international humanitarian law as long as they are in compliance with all applicable regulations and their purpose is to achieve a military objective, such as the capture of an uninhabited enemy controlled area. However, a siegeshould not target civilianobjects or cause any damage to the civilian population. In fact, individuals taking no active part in hostilities should always receive humane treatment. To understand how it all works together, family must be defined. According to Merriam Webster, a family is defined as a group of people living under one roof and usually under one head. (2015). One person could interpret this definition, as a family being mother, father and child or children however, to someone else that definition could be completely different. The numbers of suicides amongst aboriginal youth are even more alarming nearly one fourth of all youth suicides in BC are committed by aboriginals and more than half of all aboriginal suicides are committed by youth (Chandler). The fact that indigenous communities in Canada have the highest rate of suicideof any culturally identifiable group in the world implies that these alarming statistics may not solely be a result of aboriginal communities belonging to a minority cultural group. I will attempt to build a speculative hypothesis behind the significantly high suicide rates amongst aboriginal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory predicts that there are two components to suicide. First off, perception of burdening others and feeling socially alienated combine to result in the desire to die. However, an individual will not act on this desire unless he/she has developed a capability to do so. Capability to commit suicide is developed through habituation from overexposure which perhaps desensitizes the individual to experiences that are painful. This may be vital in allowing the individual to overcome innate instincts for survival and prepare him/her to act on the desire to die. Aboriginal people in Canada have undergone tremendous acculturation and marginalization (failing to acquire and value Aboriginal values and identity, while also failing to identify with the cultural values of the larger society) which may be responsible in making them perceive themselves as a burden to others and feel socially alienated. Such feelings, based on the interpersonal psychological theory, might instil the desire to die. Habituation and as a result, desensitization to the fear and pain associated with a suicidal experience, could be occurring due to high rates of suicide in one s community. Thus, the interpersonal psychological theory provides some insight into aboriginal suicide. However, the picture is incomplete as this explanation could be applied to suicide amongst patients ... • 8. Racial Identity In Maus Art Spiegelman, the author of Maus 1: My Father Bleeds History and Maus 2: A Survivor s Tale: And Here My Troubles Began, conveys many messages through his black and white illustrations in his graphic novels. Spiegelman uses a system of representation based on racial identity to portray his characters. The use of the mouse and cat can be seen throughout the novel to represent the characters, enabling Spiegelman to convey the complexity of each character. There is a constant reference to identity shown reoccurring in the novels. The use of masks can be seen to achieve a point of pretending to be someone else. Eyes can tell a lot about one s characteristic. Spiegelman utilizes the use of eyes through the novel to show feelings. His use of racial identity by the motif of the cats and mice, the eyes, and the masks communicates the horrors of the Holocaust in such way words cannot describe alone. The most visible symbol seen throughout the graphic novels was the use of animals being given human like characteristics. One of the most effective ways Spiegelman uses to tell the story of Mauswas the representation of the Jews as mice, and the Nazi Germans as cats. Jews characterized by mice were meant to represent quiet creatures; they are small and harmless. On the other hand, the Nazi were characterized by cats. They are powerful, malevolent, and sly. This motif of cats and mice shows how powerful the cats were and how powerless the mice were. Cats are predators of the mice. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They have provided a clearer picture of the costs of health care; however, it is evident that there is still work to be done regarding the transparency of complete and exact costs. For example; all hospitals have a price list called the chargemaster that includes nearly 20,000 health care procedures. Flipping the script, I will now discuss my new social contract between the citizenry and the state. I certainly believe that the state should have some responsibility to help with health care costs; however, I also think citizens should take responsibility for themselves as well. For example; people who are employed should pay their share of the premium cost based on the amount they make per year, so if one employee brings home more than another, they should pay a higher share of the amount of their premium. Moreover, an employee making minimum wage should have some help from the state to pay part of their premium cost. Also, each individual s last employer should continue to provide them with their same insurance plan until they find new employment. As far as State health insurance coverage such as the Medicaid and Medicare programs, they should continue to provide health coverage to the underprivileged and the elderly. The Romans believed that without a proper burial, a spirit would cause unhappiness for those living. Funerals had five parts in Ancient Rome; the procession, the cremationand burial, the eulogy, the feast, and the commemoration. • 26. Prose In Defoe s Robinson Crusoe When Robinson Crusoe was first published in 1719, it was as an autobiography. Defoe had omitted his name from the work, and instead titled it as the writings of Crusoe himself. And people believed him. They believed in this outrageous, extraordinary adventure because it was written in such an ordinary manner. Defoe s style of writing is of the everyday man; a man simply trying to get all his thoughts down in one place. Prose is not what makes Robinson Crusoe such a literary masterpiece the real genius of the novelis Defoe s ability to captivate his audience and fool them into believing that what they are reading is reality. There is always a way to learn from mistakes to find a deeper meaning of happiness. When Jesus Christ died on the cross, it was a mistake for everyone on this earth to learn from. Hidden Truths in The Enormous Radio Essay Hidden Truths in The Enormous Radio John Cheever s The Enormous Radio represents the enormous amount of hidden truths in American society of the 1940s. The problems with society during this time were hidden behind a facade of goodness; however, this false innocence becomes visible through the radio owned by the Westcotts. The radio causes the Westcotts to evolve from an innocent, naive pair who believe that everything they see is real, into individuals who realize that appearances are deceiving. The Westcott s view of society and of themselves is being changed from a beautiful, solid picture of appearances into many jagged, separate pieces that do not seem to fit together. Richard Rupp asserts that the movement From external to internal sorrow is only a short, inevitable step (109). This step of internalizing the sorrow occurs in several different situations. The first one occurs when the Westcotts are returning from the dinner party. Irene says They re really such nice people, aren t they? They have such nice faces. As the first article states, there are two sides to every story, and as it also states there are few saints in this tale. It also resulted in the Florida Seminoles, a war lasting nearly as long as the Iraq war. John Ross was not perfect as well. To understand the poem, most often it needs to be read multiple times. When reading any poem, paying close attention to the grammar and rhyme schemes plays an important part in the understanding. In this essay I will be comparing the poem writing by Dylan Thomas, Do not go gentle into that good night and Andrew Hudgins Elegy for My Father, Who Is Not Dead . These two poems can be found in our lecture book Thinking and Writing about Literature (T.W.L). Both poems focus on their fathers, as their lives come closer to their death. Even though both poems are centered around the death of their fathers, the poets have two different meanings of death. Do not go gentle into that good night (pg268 269) To make an analysis of this poem I broke the poem up into stanzas instead of lines. The first stanza consists of lines 1 3. The first stanza tells the father to not give up and to keeping fighting. Thomas asks his father to not be so accepting to death but to put up a fight. He uses the would rage to encourage his father to be forceful and resistant to death. The second stanza, lines4 6, describes that wise men realize that death is approaching. Thomas makes these wise men sound knowledgeable. He makes it know these wise men do not just sit back and look death in the face, but they also fight.
