Jackie Robinson s Reactions To Walker In Baseball
When asked who broke the color line in baseball, most people would think of Jackie Robinson.
An advocate for civil rights as well as an outstanding baseball player, he became a significant
figure in American history, and is widely recognized as the first black baseball player in the
Major Leagues. However, a lesser known player named Moses Fleetwood Walker was a player in
the Major Leagues six decades before Robinson. Although faced with similar trials in each of their
integration into the white dominated sport, their attitudes were far from similar. Walker wasn t
quite as likable as Robinson and was not as exceptional in his playing. Walker s actions after
baseball, including the murder of a man and his support of the Back to Africa movement,... Show

Beginning with childhood games with his neighbors, he excelled at all sports he attempted. He
played four sports during his time in middle and high school, becoming the region s most
valuable player in baseball in 1938. He attended the University of California Los Angeles,
winning varsity letters in four sports. He had to leave UCLA just before graduation due to
financial issues. He began playing football for the Honolulu Bears, but this was also cut short
when the United States entered World War I. He served in the army for two years, from 1942
1944, as a secondhand lieutenant. Robinson was arrested in 1945 for refusing to give up his seat
on a public bus, but later he was acquitted. After his time in the army, he began playing baseball
professionally in an all African American league for the Kansas City Monarchs (Dorinson). Branch
Rickey, president of the Brooklyn Dodgers, chose Robinson to begin to integrate Major League
Baseball. This became known as Rickey s Noble Experiment (Robinson). He saw good character
in Robinson, and knew he could get positive press and support from the African American
community. Robinson started by playing for the Montreal Royals in 1946, and Rickey prepared
Robinson for the trials he would soon face. Similar to Walker, reactions to him weren t always
positive. Some of his own teammates didn t want him to play, and crowds disliked him. Despite the

Mark Twain s Cone-Pone Opinions
According to Webster Dictionary, conformity is defined as, in compliance of rules, laws, or
standards. Mark Twain s, Cone pone Opinions, demonstrates how society reacts to new
conformities; individuals eventually conform to popular ideas and inevitably abandon these ideas
for something greater. Twain states, It is our nature to conform; it is force which not many can
successfully resist. (Twain 2). The reason people conform is not for self approval, but rather, for
the approval of others. In his essay, Twain discusses the flaring hoopskirt and how individuals were
appalled at first. Six months later, everyone admires hoopskirts and no one laughs anymore.
However, the hoopskirt has disappeared in the same way. One woman who abandoned this fashion
influenced others to abandon it as well. This demonstrates that society establishes habits, fashions,
and trends only to please others and will abandon those same habits, fashions, and trends to again
please others. Therefore, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In William James s, The Moral Equivalent of War, he explores the barbaric ways of war and
promotes world peace. The purpose of James s essay is to demonstrate that mankind cannot
achieve a perfect, warless society until there is a moral equivalent of war such as a substitute for
war s disciplinary function. The duties, penalties, and sanctions pictured in the utopias they paint
are all too weak and tame to touch the military minded. (James 51). Furthermore, James adds that
peace cannot be sought unless we maintain some military discipline. ...I do not believe that peace
either ought to be or will be permanent on this globe, unless the states pacifically organized
preserve some of the old elements of army discipline. A permanently successful peace economy
cannot be a simple pleasure economy. (53). Thus, humans need an equal balance of peace and war
to attain a faultless

The Power Of Nature In Robert Frost s To Build A Fire
People have control over many things such as the way they treat the earth, the ability to create life,
and the decisions they make but who really has the upper hand in controlling? We may
underestimate the power of nature when really, nature is what challenges us and has more control
over things we do not. People may try to overcome these challenges, but naturewill always have the
upper hand. This is a perfect example of Nature vs man since nature is capable of death, numbing
someone s senses, and huge disasters. Unfortunately the man in Robert Frost s short story, To Build
a Fire, went through some of the worst things nature can bring. To Build a Fire, portrays a good
example that nature is in control and extremely powerful due to the

10 Communication Secrets
In 2012, Forbes Magazine revealed 10 communication secrets but I may borrow 8 in carrying out
discussions/ face to face meetings with executives:
1.Speak openly This would also require setting out a plan on the issues that need to be addressed
primarily. Perhaps by creating an agenda, it would keep the conversation on track. Building trust
and rapport would begin then as members have to be able to feel comfortable. At this point,
choosing the right meeting venue is helpful. Somewhere calm yet inviting but where ideas can be
exchanged, recognition given or loud, enthusiastic conversations can occur. I may reserve a
meeting room or utilize an office space during a less than heavy traffic flow period. I can find out
which meeting rooms or group rooms are assigned to the organization. In the College of Business at
Grambling State University, most of its departmental groups, that is, AMA, Management Club,
NABA are assigned office space in the building which have become a room for executive meetings
and carrying out group projects. It also helps the stability of the group and established recognition
for the organization. Make sure to check with the Office of Student Affairs/ Activities if any such
rooms are available on another campus.
2.Get Personal To build rapport, a dialogue and true discussion needs to take place. I cannot control
the entire meeting without letting the members get a word in. Although having a monologue may
be great in the beginning where information is

Comparing Attitudes Toward Love in First Love, Shall I Compare Thee, Porphyria s Love and
The Flea Love is an uncontrollable emotion experienced by everybody at some time. There are
many different types of love, whether it s between mother and child, friends, lovers or a shop a

The repetition of faire is to stress the purity and loveliness of the woman. This poem conveys
warmth and awe towards its subject, which is clearly romantic, with the use of elaborate adjectives
and phrases, common for the time, to convey his emotions.
John Clare s First Love, is about a man s feelings as he is seeing someone for the first time and
falling in love with them, the manner in which he talks of his desired one is similar to
Shakespeare s description in Shall I Compare Thee The language expresses the emotions he
experiences and the effects they are having on him, blood rushed to my face and took my sight
away, and the personification of his legs refusing to walk, show how these feeling are
uncontrollable. The writing style is intense this is shown by the hyperbole of his emotions stole my
heart away completely…my heart has left its dwelling place, and can return no more. There
is a standard (a,b,a,b) rhyming scheme, making the poem sound almost like a song, and poetic
devices are used frequently. Alliteration of so sudden and so sweet, , saw so sweet a face and blood
burnt about my heart make the description stand out. Also simile s are used often; her face

Corruption In Society
The Constitution is a plan for the government that was developed in 1789. The government s
role is to protect the people s natural rights and provide security for people. Throughout time
there have been changes in society, therefore the Constitution should have changes to fit our
society. The body of the Constitution is adequate for today s society but to help keep our rights
safe and to have good security, there should be minor changes to the Constitution. The
Constitution is corrupt in today s society because of technological advances, corrupt government
officials, and the federal government has too much power over state governments. In today s
society there are corrupt government officials. For example the basic person can t run for
President. You have to have money in order to run a campaign. So there are only rich people
involved in today s politics and they only care about how they can benefit themselves. Yates said
Purposes of gratifying their own interest and ambition. This says that people will and do abuse
their power for their own purposes and don t care about the average person. Yates also wrote to
call them to account for their misconduct, or to prevent their abuse of power. This states that it is
our responsibility as citizens to prevent or call out officials on this matter. If we are not careful
then the government could change into an aristocracy. Some officials that are rich only care about
money and power so if we let them in power then they could

Heart Of Darkness And Gender
In the story of Adam and Eve, it is Eve who is blamed for the fall of humanity. This is one of
many examples that show the longevity of gender discrimination in our society. Dating back to the
beginning of man, women have been oppressed by men. Though beginning long ago this issue is
still prevalent in society today, as in unequal pay in the workplace (Bressler 145). As defined by the
online Oxford Dictionary, feminismis as described, women s rights on the grounds of political,
social, and economic equality to men. This theory of feminism applies to many texts, specifically
Joseph Conrad s novella Heart of Darkness, written in 1902. Through a feminist critical lens, it

She as well does not speak, but rather she makes noises, characteristically of an animal. She is
described in a very animalistic sense, a savage. Jeremy Hawthorn goes on to explain the woman

that the sharp contrast between the complex black white imagery is to exhibit Marlow s view
that if women are kept confined to that world of their own (Hawthorn 150). To explain,
Hawthorn is communicating that the intended is acting as a traditional, idealist, European
woman, as so because she is kept in a world where she is not her own, but as kept in the dark and
unaware of the actuality of the world. This contrast to the bold and vibrant, African woman, as
she is aware of the horrors, living in a place of terror, she is not innocent but as knowing as a

holds on women. Though this character does allow for a foil to the typical European woman in
many ways. In her being exhibited to make sounds and a wild dance to her strong sense of power

Positive Aspects Of Becoming A President
If I were to become president, right when I get into office, I would do is make some adjustments
to our education pricing. First, I would make college not so high priced, meaning not such a
high price for books and admission. Second, I would try to get private schools to not pay so
much, and since most private or charter schools manufacture their own clothes, I would also try
to get them to not make the guardian pay so much for them. The very next thing I would do is I
would set up multiple stations in every state for kids and adults to come to and get food and or
shelter. Then I would hire people to go state to state picking up the people (mostly kids) that just
want a home and we will ask them do you want to be in foster care so you can

Usa Patriot Act Essay
USA Patriot Act of 2001
In 2001, George W. Bush signed a law to provided tools to catch and prevent terrorism. It was
called the USA Patriot Act of 2001. It was George W. Bush s response to the terrorist attack that
took place in September 11, 2001 in New York and Pentagon. The Law ensured security and safety
for the citizens but it also violated individual right. The law took a lot of criticism because it
violated constitutional right, and it created problems between individual right perspective and the
public order advocates.
In September 11, 2001 United States witnessed one of the worst attack that took place in New
York and Pentagon. A lot of people died that day. And on October 26, 2001 George W. Bush

Department. Even if the law assured us the safety, it also violated the Bills of Rights. The purpose
of the Bills of Right is to protect every individual from being violated. The USA Patriot Act of 2001
violated fourth amendment. Fourth Amendment, protects people from unreasonable searches and

Essay Thomas Edison
Term Paper Thomas Alva Edison is one of the most influential people of his time. This native born
Ohioan is credited with many invention that we use today and that many of us take for granted.
Countless hours of hard work went into everything he accomplished. That drive is what made him
the man he was and defined him as an individual.
Thomas Edison was born February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio. He was the seventh and last child of
Samuel Edison, Jr. and Nancy Elliot Edison. His parents had no special mechanical background.
His mother was a former schoolteacher; his father was a jack of all trades from running a grocery

Edison replied, Genius is hard work, stick to itiveness, and common sense . But his common
sense was very uncommon. More patents were issued to Edison than have been issued to any
other single person in U. S. history: 1,093. A patent is something that says no one can copy your
idea. When Edison was 12 years old, he took a job as a train boy on the Grand Trunk Railway.
The train traveled from Port Huron, to Detroit, and back to Port Huron, all in one day. Thomas
sold newspapers and candy to passengers. He also printed a weekly newspaper, the Weekly
Herald. He spent all he earned on books and equipment for his chemical laboratory. After about a
year, he got permission to move his home science laboratory to the train baggage car. He did his
science experiments during the five hour layover in Detroit. But one day the train lurched, spilled
chemicals, and the lab caught fire. The train conductor threw Thomas and his chemicals off the
train. His next job was selling newspapers at stations along the railroad.
Nine years before Edison was born, Samuel F. B. Morse was famous for inventing the telegraph.
The telegraph sent messages over wires using Morse code . In Morse code, the alphabet and
numbers are written in combinations of dots, dashes, and short and long sounds. By the time
Edison began doing experiments, telegraph lines went across the country. He wanted to learn how
to be a telegrapher and send messages over telegraph wires. While selling

If the castle owner wants his castle to be protected, he has to know what his weaknesses are first.
His weaknesses can consist of how exposed the castle is to an attack, periphery in the sense of

the threat of the approaching army, the actual attack done by the army, and the vulnerabilities of
how the castle can be breached in order for the army to gain access to the gold (Gatford, et al.,
2007). Human errors are the main vulnerability that the current network configuration has. Humans
are the ones who created and implemented the network system in the first place. Humans are
obviously not perfect and can create unknown vulnerabilities in the system when making it. All
authentication errors and misuses trace back to humans also. Unauthorized access, authentication
misuse, and authentication errors are also vulnerabilities that the current configuration has. By
strengthening the network system using a stronger system than the traditional ID and password
system can reduce unauthorized access to a minimum. Authentication misuse is prevalent due to
some humans being unethical. A way to counter these unethical people is to have people be more
knowledge about security policies and how to properly leave their workstation before they leave

Since nearly the beginning of time, adultery has been thought of as morally wrong. Marriage, on
the other hand, has been thought of as a sacred institution shared by most of the people and
religions of the world. In the Lais written by Marie de France, we are given insight into the inner
workings of five adulterous affairs, six pre marital sexual encounters, and one instance of impure
thoughts. Although Marie de France does not seem to condone adultery, she writes in a manner that
allows the reader to feel possible sympathy with it, depending upon the situation. In fact, she seems
to separate her lays into two categories. The first category consists of extenuating circumstances in
which the reader is made (allowed) to feel empathy and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though we as readers desired that she could meet someone to make her feel alive again,
that fact that God steps in seems to make the situation much more acceptable. The adulterous
affair becomes even more acceptable in our eyes when we realize that their affair is not about
only sex, but that they share a deep and tender love. When the knight first sees the lady, he tells
her, I ve loved you for a long time now...I never loved any woman but you (81 84). The love and
passion that these lovers share bring the woman back to life. Her beauty and zest for life returns
as does her husband s suspicion. When he realizes his wife has taken a lover, he plots to kill the
hawk with spears on the windows. Once the knight is fatally wounded, the woman feels
immediately sad and heartbroken until she realizes she will give birth to a son who Someday he
will kill his and her enemy, be there avenger (102). The woman goes on with her life,
remembering the love she once shared and lives now for her son. The lai continues with the boy
growing up and learning the truth about his father. His mother dies when revealing the truth to
Yonec, her son, and in turn, Yonec cuts off his stepfather s head with his true father s sword. The
poem concludes by saying All they once suffered for their love (158). Although the poem perhaps
does not turn out the way we would like it to, we are left with a sense of happiness in the end. The

Theme Of Flowers In Sons And Lovers
David Herbert Lawrence was born on 11 September, 1885 in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire,
England. His father, named Arthur Lawrence, was a coal miner and his mother, Lydia
Lawrence, worked in the lace making industry. Lawrence was a noted author of novels, short
stories, essays, plays and poems, and is nowadays considered one of the most influential writers
of the 20th century (Biography.com Editors). One of his most acknowledged novels is Sons and
Lovers , published in 1913, in which he depicts the life of a working class family: The Morels. In
this book, Lawrence employs symbols in order to the help the reader understand the innermost
feelings of each of the characters, as well as to describe their main personality traits.
In first place, the use of flowers as a symbol of happiness is crucial for the understanding of Mrs
Gertrude MorelВґs feelings. As she was unhappy and disappointed of the life she had, Mrs Morel
tried to find the peace and joy she needed by beholding flowers. This is portrayed in: The front
garden was a small square with a private hedge. There she stood trying to soothe herself with the
scent of flowers and the fading, beautiful evening (Lawrence, D.H. Sons and Lovers. England.

In the early 1900 s two scientists, Jules Bordet and Octave Gengou, discovered the first bacterium
in the Bordetella genus. The genus was named after Bordet. The bacteria within the Bordetella
genus are Gram negative and rod shaped. These bacteria are typically coccobacilli (coccoid)
(Finger). These bacteria usually occur either in pairs or are single. They have a thin murein layer
surrounded by an outer membrane containing lipopolysaccharide and phospholipids, and they do
produce a capsule (Bordetella, 2010). All the species apart from B. petrii are obligate aerobes as

The bacteria can immobilize the cilia. These ciliated cells increasingly are destroyed, the lack of
cilia allows foreign matter to build in the lower airways, and coughing and inflammation results
(Bordetella, 2010) .
B. pertussis is the causative agent for whooping cough, an acute respiratory infection marked by
severe, spasmodic coughing episodes (Bordetella Species, 2004). B. pertussis is spread by direct
contact with droplets from coughing by an infected person. It can continue to transmit the bacteria
three weeks after coughing spells have stopped. Whooping cough can be carried by individuals
who are immune and transmitted to those who are not. The epidemic cycles in most countries is
every few years (Bordetella pertussis, 2007).
The species B. pertussis, whooping cough, is the respiratory disease in humans. A person infected
with this disease usually first shows symptoms such as runny noses, sneezing, fever, and mild
coughing. The coughing then worsens and comes in bursts. At the end of cough, the infected
person takes in air with a high pitched whoop from which the infection gets its name (Tortora 681).
Complications of whooping cough can lead to convulsions, dehydration, inflammation of the
middle ear, a loss of appetite, as well as seizures, and in a worst case scenario this can cause death
in infants. Treatment of whooping cough can include an antibiotic treatment usually with
erythromycin, increased fluids, as well as

Spiritual Murder in Buchner s Woyzeck Essay
Spiritual Murder in Georg Buchner s Woyzeck
Throughout dramatic history, tragedies have depicted a hero s humanity being stripped from him.
Usually, as in Shakespeare s classic paradigms, we see the hero, whether King Lear or Othello,
reduced from his original noble stature to nothingness and death. Yet GeorgBuchner s fragmentary
play Woyzeck shows us a protagonist already stripped of humanity, transformed into and treated as
an animal. Indeed, Woyzeck, far from being a simple tale of a village murder, shows us the
systematic debasement, even intellectual and spiritual murder, of the protagonist and all his class.
Like August Strindberg s Ghost Sonata, Woyzeck identifies most of its characters only by... Show

Others, in turn, speak of her as an animal, especially the Drum Major. At first sight of her, he
says she is good enough for the propagation of cavalry regiments and the breeding of drum
majors! (scene III), as if she were nothing but an animal to be bred. Later, he repeats Hell, let s
breed a race of drum majors, hey? and calls her You wildcat! (scene VI). Woyzeck, crushed by
visible evidence of Marie s infidelity, cries Why doesn t God blow out the sun so that everything
can roll around in lust, man and woman, man and beast. They ll do it in broad daylight, they ll do
it on our hands, like flies. (scene XI).
Animal imagery especially surrounds Woyzeck himself, in his interactions with the characters
who oppress and dehumanize him. The Captain sighs that I feel sorry for horses when I think
that the poor beasts have to go everywhere on foot. (scene IX). Yet he cares even less for
Woyzeck, for he ridicules the poor soldier mercilessly about Marie s unfaithfulness. As Woyzeck
hurries away, the Captain says that tall rascal takes off like the shadow before a spider (scene
IX) Woyzeck is comparable to an insect, in the captain s view. But the Doctor is the most
persistent and obvious character is his disparagement of Woyzeck as an animal. He complains
that Woyzeck pissed on the wall like a dog and exclaims that if it were a Proteus that were dying !

A Research Study On Infant Memory Development
Infant memory development is one of the topics of PSY103 lectures, and is also one of the
significant issues in Psychology. Dr. Jane Herbert was the lecturer of this topic and she drew my
attention and interest to infant memory development and infantile amnesia. Infantile amnesia is the
failure to recall events from babyhood and early childhood (Hayne Jack, 2010). In other words,
according to Henri Henri (1898 cited in Hayne, 2004), most of the children and adults can only
recollect the earliest memorybetween 2 and 4 years old. Early experience is a crucial element in
understanding human development as psychologists stated its influences would last for long
(Hayne Jack, 2010). The early experience plays an important role in brain, social, behavioural
development (Hayne, 2004). Many scholars and psychologists at or beyond the University of
Sheffield has conducted numerous research in this field, and they aimed to study infant memory
ability and age related changes in various kind of aspects with their research impacting society in
many ways. In this essay, the academic impacts of psychological research in connection with infant
memory development will be discussed first. This will be then followed by the discussion about the
social and economic impacts, which benefit the society.
Firstly, the academic impacts of psychological research will be discussed. Psychological research in
infant memory development has further developed the existing theory and expanded the

However in regards to general results between both genders it was shown that no definite statistical
mean yielded notable results (Alansari Baroun, 2004). Stroop (1935) also showed that women
college students also showed a difference when compared to the men and tended to have higher
word reading results, but in regards to the genders showed no significant differentiation between
both at the cognitive level. Alansari and Baroun (2004) had participants state whether they were
color blind, dyslexic, or if they had previously ever taken the Stroop test before, it was important
that these interferences were factored out in order to obtain a conclusive observation in regards to
all the participants involved in the experiment. MacLeod (1991) had suggested that those with
disabilities tended to show high Stroop interference, also along with those with an attention deficit
disorder since maintaining concentration throughout the experiment and test is an important factor
in obtaining more accurate results without a significant outlier. Also different levels of interference
where shown in children and adults, it was also observed that interference began at an early age,
declined in the adult years since most have a peak of cognitive development and understanding in
adult years, but once again increased interference around the age of 60 (MacLeod,

This has been one of the hardest papers I actually had to write for there are so many songs and
events. Most would say I have a somewhat normal life during this last decade. With the War on
Terror started in 2003, I was in high school at Goose Creek High School. During this time I was
careless, childish, prideful, stubborn, and somewhat idiotic. I dropped out of high schooland became
a bum. Eventually I grew up a little and decided to go to Job Corp in Bristol, TN. I attended there
GED and trade program which I graduated with both. After graduation in 2006, I joined the Army
six months later. The song that comes to mind is Anthem for the Underdog by 12 Stones. The song
reminds me of how I started out and how I became something else entirely due of the challenges I
faced at the time.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though I had grown up a bit, I always had a set way of thinking which made me take everything
so seriously. This would include what people said, did, and at times what I did. I was always on
edge and easily upset over petty things. Iraq made me re adjust how I looked at the world for
there is what I saw and reality. Luckily reality won out. Though I faced many challenges from
mortars and rockets, at that time the most challenging was learning how to deal with people. At
the end the tour I had changed and became colder with a cruel way of looking at life with a mean
sense of a humor that somewhat shielded me from others. The song that came with that time in
my life would be Goodbye for Now by P.O.D. The first verse of the song truly describes how I felt
early on in the tour but gradually came out somewhat dirtied by my

Examples Of Dualism In Snow Falling On Cedars
Welcome esteemed guests, ladies and gentlemen, today I am here at this forum to speak to you
about the power of the media, and the effect that it has on our lives. Like many things people
experience, the media can change an individual s perspective. It possesses the power to influence
and sway existing attitudes, values and beliefs on issues in society. By doing so, text creators are
able to create a desired context; an in invited reading in such was so that the audience has a narrow
perspective. As such, through the use of specific literary and cinematic techniques created by these
invited readings, mediatexts are able to persuade groups to favour values and ideas that align those

It can be inferred from the title that this cartoon is set in America, similar to the novel s setting.
Like Guterson s use of duality, the cartoon clearly contrasts the different social experiences
between races by posing the same scenario. In both frames respectively, a White and African
American child propose the same statement, I m goin out mom! . However, the difference
between frames is the response by the assumed mother. The view pertaining to the white child
dictates a simple answer, put on your jacket , whereas the African American view dictates the
response in the first frame as well as measures to prevent the attention of authorities. Clearly,
Sargent s use of text implies that the African American youth population experience a harsher life
due to prejudice. This is demonstrated by just a fraction of the instructions the African American
child is given, don t make any sudden moves and keep your mouth shut around police . This
scenario of race and cultural difference is undeniably relatable to the American and Japanese
populations of Snow Falling on Cedars . Within the novel, after the attack on pearl harbour, Fujiko
huddles her daughters and delivers a line similar to that of assumed African American mother in the
cartoon, We bend our head, we bow and are silent, because we understand that by ourselves, alone,
we are nothing

Oral Hygiene for People with Dementia Essay

Evidence based practice
Oral Hygiene for adults with Dementia
Introduction
The purpose of this essay is to discuss a clinical skill or nursing action by referring to the nursing
and allied health literature to explain and support evidence based practice. The skill I wish to
examine is the practice of oral hygiene for adults with dementia in residential aged care facilities.
In this essay I aim to provide the reader with adequate references to support the best practice for
oral hygiene for people with dementia.
Evidence based practice
Good oral health is important for a person s sense of well being and quality of life (Fiske, 2001).
Inadequate oral hygiene can lead to pain, tooth loss, oral disease, ... Show more content on

Another assessment tool is the Oral Health Assessment tool and is a condensed alteration of the
BOHSE. It can be completed before implementing an individualized oral hygiene care plan.
Completing this assessment will help the health care professional assess the patients current
oral status and factors, which can contribute to their risk for oral disease. This makes it possible
to put into practice the most appropriate care, plan for the residents needs. There is only a small
amount of literature providing quality evidence based on the use of a successful oral health
assessment tool for people with dementia (JBI, 2004). There is no published evidence to this date
that has directly linked the use of the assessment tool and the standard of oral hygiene and care
given within residential aged care facilities (JBI, 2004). For successful assessment of the residents
with dementia the assessment should be undertaken by trained staff and on admission the
assessment should also involve a dentist (JBI, 2004). Assessment should be done on a regular
basis, at least every 8 weeks (JBI, 2004).
Research has shown that staff training in oral hygiene and the use of an individualised Oral
Hygiene Care Plan is beneficial to the resident and also the nurse and will allow appropriate care
(National Guideline Clearing house [NGC], 2003).

The Leader Of The People By John Steinbeck
Isolated Generation In the short story The Leader of the People John Steinbeck writes about a
young boy named Jody, who lives on an isolated ranch with his parents and a hired worker. Jody
s parents are stern with him and give him orders to take care of the ranch, but Jody wants to
explore the world and live like a normal child. After Jody finds out his grandfather is visiting, he is
happy and wants to hear about the adventurous stories his grandfather tells about the Great Plains.
When Grandfather s tales create a controversy, he tells Jody how the ocean is the end of
discovery. In The Leader of the People Steinbeck uses the ranch, ocean, and Grandfather to
symbolically develop the conflict between past and present. Steinbeck uses the ranch to
symbolize isolation from the outside world. Since the ranch is secluded away from other human
activity, the family rarely leaves the ridge top. Steinbeck gives characterization to the animals to
demonstrate how isolated the ranch is; for example, the cat walks in the direction of the road,
but gallop[s] back again (1) and does not try to leave. When Jody s father comes home, the dog
look[s] up the hill toward the cleft in the ridge (2) and stares at the road. Like the animals, Jody
feels isolated because his parents teach him only about responsibilities he has to uphold for the
benefit of the ranch. Since Jody is taught to work hard, he does not get the chance to be around
other children. Although Jody does not have a lot of

Gender Differences Involved In Neurological Research
The brain is known as one of the most complex organs of the body, giving it the name of the
Black Box. The Black Box is made up of over 100 billion nerves that give the body its function.
The brain is what gives the body the ability to perform correctly, balance, and interpret information
that is received from the outside world. To this day, scientists don t have a complete understanding
of the way the brainworks. But, there s people who work to research all of its duties and why it
operates the way it does. Neurologists specialize in the function of nerves, but neuropsychologists

People may not recognize it, but everything they do and how they interact with each other is
because of their own brain. But, when someone s brain isn t working properly, then it could cause
problems that affect the victim and people associated with the victim. To help the patient and the
people around them, the patient should see a specialist. When comprehensive information about a
child s brain related strengths and weaknesses is necessary to understand potential sources of the
problem and implications for functioning, a neuropsychological evaluation is most often the best
choice. (Silver, et al). If children go to see a neuropsychologist about their problems and get an
evaluation, then they may find a solution for them. The problem is that many people aren t aware
of what a neuropsychologist does or how they can help. Politicians, and the public, need to be aware
of what neuropsychologists do (Bardenhagen). Neuropsychology can help improve the public and
its people s mental health, but unfortunately many people aren t even aware that they are there.
Many people look for help from doctors, but can never find an accurate diagnosis. This causes
their problems to go untreated, which will most likely cause the problem to worsen. If the problem
never gets better, then that person can have a negative impact on society. But if it gets treated, and
more people know about neuropsychology, then more and more people can find the solution they

About 200 years ago, the first Europeans gradually moved into the Atchafalaya region and
Acadians, otherwise known as Cajuns, soon followed behind. Those who developed the Acadian
culture came from rural areas of western French. By 1604, these same people ventured off to
Acadie, currently known as Nova Scotia, Canada, where they became farmers and fisherman.
Unfortunately, over the next 100 years, the ownership of the colony of Acadie changed over several
times. This caused great distress between the colonies and created an easy access for anyone to take
over. In 1713, Great Britain took permanent control of Acadie, however many Acadians refused the
rule over them. They denied their new British title and would not swear allegiance to the British
crown and church. Due to their outlandish refusals, the British began to remove the Acadians from
the homelands and herd them onto British ships where they would set sail to an unknown
destination in exile. Many of the former Acadian colonist found their way to the southern area of
Louisiana. The Acadians took refuge in a murky swamp called Atchafalaya. They made a home out
of the basin. The Acadians had to start over their whole lives but many were relieved to be out of
the hands of the British and to maintain their independent culture they had once established. The
Acadians adapted to the constantly, changing nature of the basin environment. The settlers

Traditional Medicine Versus Western Medicine
Traditional Medicine Versus Western Medicine
From an Indigenous person of Canada s perspective, there is more to healing someone from an
illness than focusing only on the body. They believe that there must also be a focus on the
individual s spirituality (Keightley et al., 2011, p. 240). A doctor, who practices modern western
medicine, places their focus on the physical body and follow a specific scientific process that
depends on the illness being cured (Keightley et al., 2011, p. 241). These different approaches to
medicine are based on the philosophies and beliefs that a person has, and can often raise debate in
certain medical situations. The death of Makayla Sault raised a conflict between traditional medical
practices, and western medical practices.
Western Philosophy on Medicine
When Makayla was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia the doctors at the McMaster
Children s Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario gave her a seventy five per cent chance of survival. The
doctors in the hospital have the philosophical bias that the technology of advanced western medical
treatments are the most reliable form of treatment. Makayla began chemotherapy, and went through
eleven weeks of this treatment before stopping it. According to an Oncologist at McMaster, There
are no known cases of survival of this type of leukemia without a full course of treatment (Walker,
C., 2015, Makayla exercised her rights , para.1). Makayla s mother believed that the chemotherapy

the greatest in the 20th century. He was a pioneer in the modern style of architecture. For more

Tragedy struck Wright in 1914, when a servant at Taliesin murdered Cheney, her two children, and
four other people before setting the place on fire. He began to rebuild Taliesin right immediately
after the fire. After Catherine granted him a divorce in 1922, he married Miriam Noel. She was a
very emotional unstable woman. He separated form her not too long afterwards. In 1927 he got a

center for training apprentices in his architectural principles. He later built Taliesin West in
Scottsdale, Arizona, and from then on, the studio and apprentices moved to Arizona for the winter.
Wright created the philosophy of organic architecture, the center principle of which maintains that
the building should develop out of its natural surroundings. From the outset he exhibited bold
originality in his designs for both private and public structures and rebelled against the ornate
neoclassic and Victorian styles favored by conventional architects. Wright believe that each building
should have its own identity and it should be determined in each case by the particular function of
the building, its environment, and the type of materials used in the structure. He used various

The Effect Of The Concentration Of A Substance On The Rate Of Reaction
Year 9 Chemistry Assignment Term 3
Introduction
The purpose of this experiment was to measure and interpret the effect of a chemical
concentration on a reaction rate. A collision theory is a theory proposed by Max Trautz and
William Lewis that states: qualitatively explains how chemical reactions occur and why reaction
rates differ for different chemical reactions (Wikipedia, 2015). An example of collision theory is
when two motor vehicles collide with one another creating a large impact as the particles combine
with one another due to the large impact created. A chemical reactionis a process that involves the
rearrangement of the molecular and ionic structure of a substance when the interaction of two
or more chemicals is compounded to create a new substance (Middle School Chemistry, 2015).
An example of a chemical reaction is when a bike begins to rust or when photosynthesis takes
place (Uen.org, 2015). The different types of Molars used in the experiment affected the speed
of the reactions of the acid. These times varied on the amount of concentration used in the
molars. This was shown in the results of the experiment as the 2Molar gave an average time of
23.88 seconds, for the water to decrease to 30 ml in the test tube. The 1Molar gave an average
54.94 seconds to reach 30 ml of water in the test tube, and the 0.5Molar displayed an average time
of 3 minutes 13 seconds to reach 30 mL.

Sections 302, 304, 306, 402, 403 and 406 are designed to improve the ?Tone at the Top? of
companies. The sections are primarily geared towards the CFOs, CEOs and other company
officers. An example is under section 302; the CEO and CFO need to personally certify
financial documents pertaining to annual and quarterly reports. Section 304 forces management
to return bonuses earned if the financial documents were inaccurate as a result of misconduct.
Section 306 states company officers cannot trade during pension fund blackout periods. Section
402 prohibits insider loans. Section 403 mandates electronic filing of insider transactions. In
other words, if the CFO decides he should sell his stock, the immediacy of the sale would have to
be reported or filed with the SEC. Section 406 forces a company to have a written code of ethics
for the CEO, CFO and the staff. www.sec.gov/news/press/2003 89a.htm. Further scrutiny of the

Craig Martin On Jainism
Craig Martin stated, The world is not just there for us to find and discover rather, we make the
world what it is through our use of language. (21). This further expands on the notion that human
beings are the makers of social constructs and social roles; we make these categories that we place
ourselves and others in to give each other a sense of identity. Human beings like to be in control of
their world and everything in it. Anything that tries to disrupt that or is outside of their control
brings a sense of chaos.
In the words of Craig Martin, a meritocracy is defined as a society in which people get what they
earn, deserve or merit (72). Religions area generally known to be fair and peaceful for all to be

Aidan Rankin a researcher wrote a book titled Jainism and ethical finance drawing global
awareness to the culture of Jainism and it s ability to sustain those that practice it for years. The
article stated, Jains make one of the largest per capita communities of accountants, financiers
and entrepreneurs in the world yet they operate quietly and simply, that is why they remain
unnoticed. Finance has been in their DNA for centuries. This further expatiates on when the
short video classified Jains as prosperous merchants in India. This raises some ethical questions
on how Jains have been able to be prosperous without any support of violence in their careers.
Jainism seems to be a religion that can only be realistic in India because it is recognized as a
major religion there and they have lived there for so long they have been able to build a
community that supports and encourages their practices culturally and environmentally. A
question that may be raised is what is the definition of prosperity, is it defined my money, which
is made from paper that comes from trees? Also the fact that a book also made from several trees
was written to support and maybe convert those that read it into the practice is a bit ironic. The
last ethical issue that what could the Jain merchants possibly be selling that is a result of non
violence of any animal or plants that can bring about so much prosperity that it is news worthy.
Jainism seems to a very

Clausewitz On Nature And Character Of War
Clausewitz on Nature and Character of War
There are no universal theories to explain the true nature and character of war, and any war theories
are not a fact or absolute truth. All strategic principles are dynamic and contextual, so every age had
its own kind of war, its own limiting conditions, and its own peculiar preconceptions. The battlefield
environment of the 21st century will be the volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous, and nature
of war will be completely different because of the Revolution in Military Affairs. Highly advance

A theory is relevant to educate the mind of future commander and guide them to self education.
To developed the war theory, Clausewitz used the Dialectic approach, which is a method of
philosophical argument that involves contradictory process between opposing ideas to establish the
truth, propounded by the German philosopher G W F Hegel. His thesis on war is an absolute war.
According to him total or absolute war carry out with the utmost violence for unlimited aims, and
there is no logic limit to the application of available all power. On total war both warring fraction
could not suspend their military operation and hostilities until one or other side finally defeated, or

between these thesis and antithesis, Clausewitz develops Synthesis (theory of war).

Nature of war which usually remains unchanged irrespective of changes in environment or war.
Four elements of nature of war are; greater political nature , human dimension , uncertainty , and
final one is contest of wills. The trinity of war, Clausewitz s famous theory, comprises three basic

The Two Eras of Globalization and Trade
Globalization and Trade: Since the mid of the Nineteenth century particularly after the end of
the cold war, Globalization has become the catchphrase that attracts everybody. However
Globalization is a complex concept to be defined, there are many different definitions of
Globalization. According to Thomas Friedman in his book The Lexus and the Olive Tree, he
defined Globalization in terms of PARADIGM SHIFTS as the follow: it is the inevitable
integration of markets, nation states and technologies to a degree never witnessed before in a
way that is enabling individuals, corporations and nation states to reach around the world farther,
faster, deeper and cheaper than ever before and in a way that is enabling the world to reach into
individuals, corporations and nation states farther, faster, and deeper, cheaper than ever before.
Moreover, Globalization is represented in two eras. First, which started in the mid of the
nineteenth century and ended with the start of the World War I (WWI), and the Second era began
in the aftereffects of the World War II (WWII) and still continuous until today. The Two eras of
Globalization were described by increased cooperation and integration in trade, smooth capital
flows and free movement of labors. In another words, under the umbrella of Globalization, any
product that has been manufactured in somewhere in the globe could easily finds its way into the
market in another part of the world. In addition, since this process became the

Marketing Corona in Japan
1. How aligned are Modelo s, EBI s and NS s short and long term interests ?
In recent times, the market changes affected the short and long term interest of Modelo, Export
Brands International and Nippon Spirits. It was clear that the big picture was extremely difficult to
see from the same united perspective as in the past, thus making the Japanese Corona business quite
uncertain.

Let s say that the situation will continue like it is now, none of the 2 mentioned dangers
happening, other thing can become a real pain for Export Brands International: I am referring here
at the fact that consumers are increasingly shifting away from mass produced beers towards high
quality, classier, and locally produced craft micro brews. Or the fact that Japanese consumers will
be tempted to buy affordable domestic brands due to the economic downturn. As because Corona is
the top seller in the Export Brands International portfolio, their revenues and profitability will be
seriously affected.
Not to say the fact that right now, Corona is not the only Mexican beer present in the Japanese
market, now being under direct attack by a series of other Mexican beer that have high marketing
budgets. To maintain the position, Export Brands International is forced to pump heavily in the
investment marketing budget , much more than the others as Corona must change and reinvent
itself. Export Brands International must come with something new trying once again to
differentiate as in the beginnings, now being a lot harder.
The situation can even explode for Export Brands International, as large beers conglomerates with
tremendous power, are targeting the same segment and are creating similar beers. We have the real
example of Anheuser Busch new Bud Light Lime which was selling extremely well in the United
States attacking Corona position and following the traces of the

Bronfenbrenner s Social Ecological Model
Introduction
The social ecological perspective is seen as a dynamic process in the development of people. The
focus of the social ecological model is the interaction between the person and environment. The
fundamental assumption is that behaviour is the result of the interaction between individuals and
the contexts they are exposed to. (Visser, 2007, p. 103) Personality characteristics and behaviour
develop in that interaction process. However psychological and biological factors do play an
important role in this process. The personality development is mainly determined by the interaction
between psychological, biological and environmental factors. (Moen, Elder, Luscher, 1995) There
are various theories about the social ecological development of people. One of them is Urie
Bronfenbrenner social ecological model. In this assessment I will be discussing Bronfenbrenners
social ecological model and its relevance to my own life. I will explore the ecological model in
terms of my own childhood and will discuss the impact it has on the distinctiveness in the South
African context.

Diagnosis Of Major Depressive Disorder
Depression affects many individuals worldwide, indiscriminant of race, gender or age.
Depression is found across cultures, genders, with slight differing of symptomatology found
worldwide (Burnett Zeigler et al., 2012, p. 123; Cuijpers Schoevers, 2004 p. 430; Watters, 2010).
In 2012, the World Health Organization (WHO), estimated that over 350 million people suffer
from depressive symptoms worldwide. Accurate diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder(MDD) in
other countries can be challenging, as individuals are not assessed regularly in primary care clinics.
Across many cultures, somatic symptoms tend to be reported more frequently than emotional and
behavioral symptoms, with treatment primarily prescribed for the physical symptom, which doesn
t address the individuals faulty beliefs, impacting feelings and behaviors. Not only are people
suffering from the tremendous symptomology of depression, but increased deaths, due to suicide,
frequent this population (Cuijpers Schoevers, 2004, p. 420).
The demand for evidenced base screening tools and qualified clinicians who have the skills to
accurately diagnose and provide evidenced treatment modalities are an increasing need and
continue to gain significant attention of agencies such as Medicaid and Medicare. Both Medicaid
and Medicare provide financial support for medical services needed by clients living in poverty,
clients whom are elder and/or are disabled. These populations includes many people who are

Economic Policies And Economic Policy
In every country there s a government and economy. Each counties government helps or tries to
help recover, stabilize, and grow the economy. First thing we need to look at is economic policy.
Economic policy refer to actions the government makes in the economic field. For example the
taxation, the government supply, money supply, interest rates, along with the labor market, and
national ownership. Inside the economic policy you will find all sorts of things that help make the
policy stand on it s two feet. The three main parts that tie into economic policy are supply side
economics, demand side economics, and monetary policy. Each of the three economic structures
will also help define and show what all the economic policy is and... Show more content on

Now as we can see supply side has a demand for small government and less of a tax policy. Both
of which as seen in the political views of things. So to add on to what supply side economics is
you also need to remember that politics has role. Supply side economics has a little bit of a
background when you look into it. Based upon the three pillars and what each one deals with you
can see that you can not take away the political side of it because it would then demand a smaller
role for the government and a less tax policy.
So the next branch of the economic policy would be demand side. Demand side economics relates
to an economic theory that defends the use of government spending and growth in the money
supply to prompt the demand for goods and services, thus leading to the expand of economic
activity. With demand side economics there is a theory that some believe will work. Demand side
economist support government spending to the fullest. They do so because they think it will
overcome the short term low aggregates demand. Raising the market s aggregate demand will
reduce unemployment and encourage economic activity, according to this theory. By spending the
government increases demand on

The Non Profit Association People for the Ethnic Treatment of Animals, otherwise known as

she had been marked by a butcher to be slaughtered and to have several of her body parts cut off

she is in a very provocative sitting position and is tagged as if she were an animalin various areas of
her body like her breast, legs, shoulders, ribs, among other parts. The message PETA was trying
to get across was that people and animals have the same parts and they were trying to persuade
the public to go vegetarian. The PETA ad was banned in several countries like Canada for being

PETA is trying to shine the light on the problems that animals suffer because of humans, the type of

  • 2. Jackie Robinson s Reactions To Walker In Baseball When asked who broke the color line in baseball, most people would think of Jackie Robinson. An advocate for civil rights as well as an outstanding baseball player, he became a significant figure in American history, and is widely recognized as the first black baseball player in the Major Leagues. However, a lesser known player named Moses Fleetwood Walker was a player in the Major Leagues six decades before Robinson. Although faced with similar trials in each of their integration into the white dominated sport, their attitudes were far from similar. Walker wasn t quite as likable as Robinson and was not as exceptional in his playing. Walker s actions after baseball, including the murder of a man and his support of the Back to Africa movement,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beginning with childhood games with his neighbors, he excelled at all sports he attempted. He played four sports during his time in middle and high school, becoming the region s most valuable player in baseball in 1938. He attended the University of California Los Angeles, winning varsity letters in four sports. He had to leave UCLA just before graduation due to financial issues. He began playing football for the Honolulu Bears, but this was also cut short when the United States entered World War I. He served in the army for two years, from 1942 1944, as a secondhand lieutenant. Robinson was arrested in 1945 for refusing to give up his seat on a public bus, but later he was acquitted. After his time in the army, he began playing baseball professionally in an all African American league for the Kansas City Monarchs (Dorinson). Branch Rickey, president of the Brooklyn Dodgers, chose Robinson to begin to integrate Major League Baseball. This became known as Rickey s Noble Experiment (Robinson). He saw good character in Robinson, and knew he could get positive press and support from the African American community. Robinson started by playing for the Montreal Royals in 1946, and Rickey prepared Robinson for the trials he would soon face. Similar to Walker, reactions to him weren t always positive. Some of his own teammates didn t want him to play, and crowds disliked him. Despite the negativity thrown in his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mark Twain s Cone-Pone Opinions According to Webster Dictionary, conformity is defined as, in compliance of rules, laws, or standards. Mark Twain s, Cone pone Opinions, demonstrates how society reacts to new conformities; individuals eventually conform to popular ideas and inevitably abandon these ideas for something greater. Twain states, It is our nature to conform; it is force which not many can successfully resist. (Twain 2). The reason people conform is not for self approval, but rather, for the approval of others. In his essay, Twain discusses the flaring hoopskirt and how individuals were appalled at first. Six months later, everyone admires hoopskirts and no one laughs anymore. However, the hoopskirt has disappeared in the same way. One woman who abandoned this fashion influenced others to abandon it as well. This demonstrates that society establishes habits, fashions, and trends only to please others and will abandon those same habits, fashions, and trends to again please others. Therefore, the... The purpose of James s essay is to demonstrate that mankind cannot achieve a perfect, warless society until there is a moral equivalent of war such as a substitute for war s disciplinary function. The duties, penalties, and sanctions pictured in the utopias they paint are all too weak and tame to touch the military minded. (James 51). Furthermore, James adds that peace cannot be sought unless we maintain some military discipline. ...I do not believe that peace either ought to be or will be permanent on this globe, unless the states pacifically organized preserve some of the old elements of army discipline. A permanently successful peace economy cannot be a simple pleasure economy. (53). Thus, humans need an equal balance of peace and war to attain a faultless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Power Of Nature In Robert Frost s To Build A Fire People have control over many things such as the way they treat the earth, the ability to create life, and the decisions they make but who really has the upper hand in controlling? We may underestimate the power of nature when really, nature is what challenges us and has more control over things we do not. People may try to overcome these challenges, but naturewill always have the upper hand. This is a perfect example of Nature vs man since nature is capable of death, numbing someone s senses, and huge disasters. Unfortunately the man in Robert Frost s short story, To Build a Fire, went through some of the worst things nature can bring. To Build a Fire, portrays a good example that nature is in control and extremely powerful due to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. 10 Communication Secrets In 2012, Forbes Magazine revealed 10 communication secrets but I may borrow 8 in carrying out discussions/ face to face meetings with executives: 1.Speak openly This would also require setting out a plan on the issues that need to be addressed primarily. Perhaps by creating an agenda, it would keep the conversation on track. Building trust and rapport would begin then as members have to be able to feel comfortable. At this point, choosing the right meeting venue is helpful. Somewhere calm yet inviting but where ideas can be exchanged, recognition given or loud, enthusiastic conversations can occur. I may reserve a meeting room or utilize an office space during a less than heavy traffic flow period. I can find out which meeting rooms or group rooms are assigned to the organization. In the College of Business at Grambling State University, most of its departmental groups, that is, AMA, Management Club, NABA are assigned office space in the building which have become a room for executive meetings and carrying out group projects. It also helps the stability of the group and established recognition for the organization. Make sure to check with the Office of Student Affairs/ Activities if any such rooms are available on another campus. 2.Get Personal To build rapport, a dialogue and true discussion needs to take place. I cannot control the entire meeting without letting the members get a word in. Although having a monologue may be great in the beginning where information is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many different types of love, whether it s between mother and child, friends, lovers or a shop a holic and her credit card. This poem conveys warmth and awe towards its subject, which is clearly romantic, with the use of elaborate adjectives and phrases, common for the time, to convey his emotions. John Clare s First Love, is about a man s feelings as he is seeing someone for the first time and falling in love with them, the manner in which he talks of his desired one is similar to Shakespeare s description in Shall I Compare Thee The language expresses the emotions he experiences and the effects they are having on him, blood rushed to my face and took my sight away, and the personification of his legs refusing to walk, show how these feeling are uncontrollable. The writing style is intense this is shown by the hyperbole of his emotions stole my heart away completely…my heart has left its dwelling place, and can return no more. • 7. Corruption In Society The Constitution is a plan for the government that was developed in 1789. The government s role is to protect the people s natural rights and provide security for people. Throughout time there have been changes in society, therefore the Constitution should have changes to fit our society. The body of the Constitution is adequate for today s society but to help keep our rights safe and to have good security, there should be minor changes to the Constitution. The Constitution is corrupt in today s society because of technological advances, corrupt government officials, and the federal government has too much power over state governments. In today s society there are corrupt government officials. For example the basic person can t run for President. You have to have money in order to run a campaign. So there are only rich people involved in today s politics and they only care about how they can benefit themselves. Yates said Purposes of gratifying their own interest and ambition. This says that people will and do abuse their power for their own purposes and don t care about the average person. Yates also wrote to call them to account for their misconduct, or to prevent their abuse of power. This states that it is our responsibility as citizens to prevent or call out officials on this matter. If we are not careful then the government could change into an aristocracy. Some officials that are rich only care about money and power so if we let them in power then they could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Heart Of Darkness And Gender In the story of Adam and Eve, it is Eve who is blamed for the fall of humanity. This is one of many examples that show the longevity of gender discrimination in our society. Dating back to the beginning of man, women have been oppressed by men. Though beginning long ago this issue is still prevalent in society today, as in unequal pay in the workplace (Bressler 145). As defined by the online Oxford Dictionary, feminismis as described, women s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. This theory of feminism applies to many texts, specifically Joseph Conrad s novella Heart of Darkness, written in 1902. She as well does not speak, but rather she makes noises, characteristically of an animal. She is described in a very animalistic sense, a savage. Jeremy Hawthorn goes on to explain the woman s representation of sensuality and passion (Hawthorn 147). Hawthorns elaborates on the idea that the sharp contrast between the complex black white imagery is to exhibit Marlow s view that if women are kept confined to that world of their own (Hawthorn 150). To explain, Hawthorn is communicating that the intended is acting as a traditional, idealist, European woman, as so because she is kept in a world where she is not her own, but as kept in the dark and unaware of the actuality of the world. This contrast to the bold and vibrant, African woman, as she is aware of the horrors, living in a place of terror, she is not innocent but as knowing as a European man. Marlow sees her a powerful woman, this is polar to the held beliefs that Marlow holds on women. Though this character does allow for a foil to the typical European woman in many ways. • 9. Positive Aspects Of Becoming A President If I were to become president, right when I get into office, I would do is make some adjustments to our education pricing. First, I would make college not so high priced, meaning not such a high price for books and admission. Second, I would try to get private schools to not pay so much, and since most private or charter schools manufacture their own clothes, I would also try to get them to not make the guardian pay so much for them. The very next thing I would do is I would set up multiple stations in every state for kids and adults to come to and get food and or shelter. Then I would hire people to go state to state picking up the people (mostly kids) that just want a home and we will ask them do you want to be in foster care so you can ... It was George W. Bush s response to the terrorist attack that took place in September 11, 2001 in New York and Pentagon. • 11. Essay Thomas Edison Term Paper Thomas Alva Edison is one of the most influential people of his time. This native born Ohioan is credited with many invention that we use today and that many of us take for granted. Countless hours of hard work went into everything he accomplished. That drive is what made him the man he was and defined him as an individual. Thomas Edison was born February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio. He was the seventh and last child of Samuel Edison, Jr. and Nancy Elliot Edison. His parents had no special mechanical background. His mother was a former schoolteacher; his father was a jack of all trades from running a grocery store to real estate. When Thomas was seven years old, his family moved to Port ... More patents were issued to Edison than have been issued to any other single person in U. S. history: 1,093. A patent is something that says no one can copy your idea. When Edison was 12 years old, he took a job as a train boy on the Grand Trunk Railway. The train traveled from Port Huron, to Detroit, and back to Port Huron, all in one day. Thomas sold newspapers and candy to passengers. He also printed a weekly newspaper, the Weekly Herald. He spent all he earned on books and equipment for his chemical laboratory. After about a year, he got permission to move his home science laboratory to the train baggage car. He did his science experiments during the five hour layover in Detroit. But one day the train lurched, spilled chemicals, and the lab caught fire. The train conductor threw Thomas and his chemicals off the train. His next job was selling newspapers at stations along the railroad. Nine years before Edison was born, Samuel F. B. Morse was famous for inventing the telegraph. The telegraph sent messages over wires using Morse code . In Morse code, the alphabet and numbers are written in combinations of dots, dashes, and short and long sounds. The Design Development of Intrusion Detection and Prevention Savannah Riley Liberty University CSIS 340 D01 8/20/2017 Abstract An IT Disaster Recovery plan is something that is extremely essential for a business to have whenever a disaster hits. Typically when a disaster hits where a business is located, a business s systems go offline and are vulnerable to cyberattacks and hacking among other issues. By designing and developing an intrusion detection and prevention system for a company, a company will have the ability to know when an attack is coming and how to prevent the attack from being successful. If the castle owner wants his castle to be protected, he has to know what his weaknesses are first. His weaknesses can consist of how exposed the castle is to an attack, periphery in the sense of measuring the extent of the castle walls and openings that susceptible to attack, lack of protection, the threat of the approaching army, the actual attack done by the army, and the vulnerabilities of how the castle can be breached in order for the army to gain access to the gold (Gatford, et al., 2007). Human errors are the main vulnerability that the current network configuration has. Humans are the ones who created and implemented the network system in the first place. Humans are obviously not perfect and can create unknown vulnerabilities in the system when making it. All authentication errors and misuses trace back to humans also. Unauthorized access, authentication misuse, and authentication errors are also vulnerabilities that the current configuration has. By strengthening the network system using a stronger system than the traditional ID and password system can reduce unauthorized access to a minimum. Authentication misuse is prevalent due to some humans being unethical. A way to counter these unethical people is to have people be more knowledge about security policies and how to properly leave their workstation before they leave work for the day. • 13. We have Decided Essay Since nearly the beginning of time, adultery has been thought of as morally wrong. Marriage, on the other hand, has been thought of as a sacred institution shared by most of the people and religions of the world. In the Lais written by Marie de France, we are given insight into the inner workings of five adulterous affairs, six pre marital sexual encounters, and one instance of impure thoughts. Although Marie de France does not seem to condone adultery, she writes in a manner that allows the reader to feel possible sympathy with it, depending upon the situation. In fact, she seems to separate her lays into two categories. The first category consists of extenuating circumstances in which the reader is made (allowed) to feel empathy and... The adulterous affair becomes even more acceptable in our eyes when we realize that their affair is not about only sex, but that they share a deep and tender love. When the knight first sees the lady, he tells her, I ve loved you for a long time now...I never loved any woman but you (81 84). The love and passion that these lovers share bring the woman back to life. Her beauty and zest for life returns as does her husband s suspicion. When he realizes his wife has taken a lover, he plots to kill the hawk with spears on the windows. Once the knight is fatally wounded, the woman feels immediately sad and heartbroken until she realizes she will give birth to a son who Someday he will kill his and her enemy, be there avenger (102). The woman goes on with her life, remembering the love she once shared and lives now for her son. The lai continues with the boy growing up and learning the truth about his father. His mother dies when revealing the truth to Yonec, her son, and in turn, Yonec cuts off his stepfather s head with his true father s sword. The poem concludes by saying All they once suffered for their love (158). Although the poem perhaps does not turn out the way we would like it to, we are left with a sense of happiness in the end. In first place, the use of flowers as a symbol of happiness is crucial for the understanding of Mrs Gertrude MorelВґs feelings. As she was unhappy and disappointed of the life she had, Mrs Morel tried to find the peace and joy she needed by beholding flowers. This is portrayed in: The front garden was a small square with a private hedge. There she stood trying to soothe herself with the scent of flowers and the fading, beautiful evening (Lawrence, D.H. Usually, as in Shakespeare s classic paradigms, we see the hero, whether King Lear or Othello, reduced from his original noble stature to nothingness and death. Yet GeorgBuchner s fragmentary play Woyzeck shows us a protagonist already stripped of humanity, transformed into and treated as an animal. Dr. Jane Herbert was the lecturer of this topic and she drew my attention and interest to infant memory development and infantile amnesia. Infantile amnesia is the failure to recall events from babyhood and early childhood (Hayne Jack, 2010). In other words, according to Henri Henri (1898 cited in Hayne, 2004), most of the children and adults can only recollect the earliest memorybetween 2 and 4 years old. Early experience is a crucial element in understanding human development as psychologists stated its influences would last for long (Hayne Jack, 2010). The early experience plays an important role in brain, social, behavioural development (Hayne, 2004). Many scholars and psychologists at or beyond the University of Sheffield has conducted numerous research in this field, and they aimed to study infant memory ability and age related changes in various kind of aspects with their research impacting society in many ways. • 31. The Effect Of Concentration Of A Substance On The Rate Of... The Effect Of The Concentration Of A Substance On The Rate Of Reaction Year 9 Chemistry Assignment Term 3 Introduction The purpose of this experiment was to measure and interpret the effect of a chemical concentration on a reaction rate. A collision theory is a theory proposed by Max Trautz and William Lewis that states: qualitatively explains how chemical reactions occur and why reaction rates differ for different chemical reactions (Wikipedia, 2015). An example of collision theory is when two motor vehicles collide with one another creating a large impact as the particles combine with one another due to the large impact created. A chemical reactionis a process that involves the rearrangement of the molecular and ionic structure of a substance when the interaction of two or more chemicals is compounded to create a new substance (Middle School Chemistry, 2015). An example of a chemical reaction is when a bike begins to rust or when photosynthesis takes place (Uen.org, 2015). The different types of Molars used in the experiment affected the speed of the reactions of the acid. These times varied on the amount of concentration used in the molars. This was shown in the results of the experiment as the 2Molar gave an average time of 23.88 seconds, for the water to decrease to 30 ml in the test tube. The 1Molar gave an average 54.94 seconds to reach 30 ml of water in the test tube, and the 0.5Molar displayed an average time of 3 minutes 13 seconds to reach 30 mL. A chemical ...
