Rebecca Edwards is planning an initial magazine project. She is considering doing a video game magazine or fashion magazine. For the video game magazine, she believes she will be able to find facts about games and include props like game controllers in photos. She may struggle with improving photo quality in Photoshop. Rebecca created a mind map and mood board related to the game Dreams, which will influence her magazine's style and color choices. She outlined a schedule for her magazine production over 5 weeks, including research, planning, production, and evaluation. Rebecca listed 7 sources she plans to use, including the Dreams game, upcoming games, and Media Molecule's website and YouTube channel.
2. Initial Reaction
• Thinking about either making a video games magazine or branch out and work on something
like fashion magazines
• I have used Photoshop before but may struggle when improving the quality of photos, which
is something I hope to improve on
• I may also need help when choosing how to structure my own custom cover, rather than use
a select template like in previous projects I have completed
• I believe I may be able to find many facts about a chosen game as I am aware of many
upcoming games and so will be able to relay facts about them in an article format.
• I also think I could bring in props from home for a video games magazine, such as a games
controller or my Nintendo Switch to have someone pose with or pretend to pay.
• I also think I will look up various screenshots whatever article I do, in order to convey
something that a studio photo cannot.
• A gossip magazine could also be beneficial to my learning due to the copious amount of
images or symbols used, which could help to enhance my editing abilities.
9. Mood Board Analysis
Mainly, the image style is what is most repeaded in my mood board as the majority of the
images collected are all from the same game, resulting in the same design style.
Additionally, some colours have also been repeated, such as the bright pink, due to it being
the main house colour of Media Molecules, the company that created Dreams, the game I
have chosen to focus on, but also there are a vast number of dark colours as well, whch
could be used to create a calmer or slightly less upbeat mood. However, most of my images
do seem to repeat a happy, relativly upbeat tone when the colours are disregared as most
are connected to some form of gameplay.
This mood board will most likely influence my magazine a lot as most of the images are
connected to Dreams in some way, which will be my main focus for the magazine and I also
planned to have a few gameplay screenshots placed in my magazine that I could not
recreate in a studio or through Photoshop. My mood board could also influence my product
in terms of ideas for the studio images, such as a person playing on a Nintendo Switch for
the cover or posing with a Duelshock for a side image in the double page spread. Lastly, I
believe that the moodboard will influence my choice of colour as I have chosen to use quite
dark and calm colours throughout my magazine, but this may influence which coulors to
use exactly, such as a dark purple, blue or pink, in order to accosiate more with Dreams.
