The Influences On The Life Of Olaudah Equiano s Life
Olaudah Equiano was a former slave and anti slavery campaigner. He went through many hardships
and used them to help others. Equiano was kidnapped and sold into slavery at a young age under
terrible conditions which inspired him to write The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah
Equiano. Olaudah Equiano was born in 1745 in Nigeria. At age eleven, he and his sisters were
kidnapped and taken into the custody of slaveholders. They were separated and boarded on
overcrowded, disease stricken ships heading to the Middle Passage. He was taken to Barbados and
then shipped to Virginia. There he endured many punishments while being pushed to do hard labor. In
1757, Equiano was bought by a mariner and renamed Gustavas Vassa. Equiano learned how

Construction Project Essay
The design phase in the construction project life cycle is considered as a significant contributor to the
project performance. Many researchers have considered this phenomenon as being dependent on the
project success which comprises of quality, cost, time and sustainability. Nowadays, most of the
construction projects must be delivered through the fast track, therefore it is difficult to co ordinate
between the specialists and personnel as there is no accepted platform of good practice in managing
the design process (Bibby, 2003). Although some technologies have been developed and applied in
construction projects, the performance of the construction industry is still considered low (Sacks
Goldin, 2007). (Aziz Hafez, 2013) argue that the current technologies can only improve the
management of the construction process, however, in improving quality of the projects effectively, it
does not reduce cost and time of design and construction. This is referred to as the traditional method
that is still in place and currently being practiced in the industry. The objective of this work is to
present the innovative design process in building construction projects where lean thinking (LT) is
being considered for design process improvements. This research proposes a design process model
that integrates LT into the traditional design process with activities which are able to eliminate wastes
in the design process. The model is based on the set based concurrent engineering (SBCE)

Epicondylitis Case Study
Tested For:
The Golfer s Elbow Special Test is designed to confirm the diagnosis of medial epicondylitis.1
Test Performance:
To perform this test, the patient should be seated or standing, while making a fist on the involved
side.1 The therapist should use one hand to stabilize along the distal humerus while simultaneously
palpating the medial epicondyle.1 With the other hand, the therapist should then passively supinate the
forearm and extend the elbow and wrist.1 Pain or discomfort along the medial region of the elbow is
positive for medial epicondylitis.1 If the patient does not experience any pain or discomfort along the
medial epicondyle during this test, then they most likely do not have medial epicondylitis.1

Concept Of Feminism In Mahabharata
This paper explores the idea of feminism represented by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. The paper uses

Who Is Theseus In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Analysis of the Character Theseus Love is a theme that is greatly explored throughout A Midsummer
Night s Dream, and is experienced in many different ways among the different characters. Focusing
on the character of Theseus, we see that his portrayal of love is very different to the rest of the lovers,
and we even question whether he is experiencing love at all. His character and views on love develop
drastically during the play, and I want to explore this progression in detail. Although he only appears
in the beginning and end of the play, Theseus is a key character with great power and influence. Being
the mythic leader of Athens, Theseus is the overall dispenser of justice throughout the play. When
Egeus turns to him to settle the dispute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first he does not believe the lovers story about their time in the woods and dismisses Hippolyta s
concerns, saying I never may believe there antique fables, nor these fairy toys (5.1.2). He rejects the
ideas of magic, only accepting explanations that are logical and which make sense to him. We see that
Theseus logical mindset fits perfectly with the overall scene in Athens, which is a place of fact and
reality. During the play within a play in act 5, Theseus begins to recognize the need for imagination in
order to believe the ridiculous situations of the play. Earlier, Theseus did not yet understand the value
of imagination and dreaming, which we see when he compares the lunatic, the lover, and the poet.
Although they are three very different types of people, he states that all three are of imagination all
compact (5.1.8), meaning they all have a similarity: they are dreamers. Towards the end of the play of
Pyramus and Thisbe, we begin to see Theseus become more open to imagination, stating that it is
needed to make sense of the ridiculous plot of the play he is

Importance Of Association For Mental Health
Association for Mental Health (now MIND) was formed to campaign for better provision for the
mentally disabled.
The National Assistance (NA) Act, 1946, implemented 1948, abolished the Poor Law/Public
Assistance and established the National Assistance Board (NAB), which took over its institutions and
responsibility for means tested benefits. However, all hospitals were absorbed into the National Health
Service, also established 1948. Older and disabled people were divided into the sick , who were placed
in hospitals (c. 90,000 people) and those needing care and attention (c. 42,000) who were placed in
residential homes, overwhelmingly former workhouses. The NAAct required local authorities, under
the control of the NAB, to provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The NAB was responsible to the Minister of Health, but semi independent and required to work also
with the new Ministry of National Insurance, whose benefits it supplemented. The
National Assistance Act was piloted through the Commons jointly by the Minister of Health,
Aneurin Bevan and the Minister of National Insurance, Jim Griffiths. The boundary between health
care and social care was far from clear and could not easily be for older and disabled people. In 1966
the NAB was abolished and replaced by the Supplementary Benefits
Commission. In 1968 this was absorbed into a new Department of Health and Social Security which
replaced the Ministries of Health and National Insurance, where it remained until 1988, when a
separate Department of Health was established. Responsibility for local government moved
permanently from the Ministry of Health to a separate in department in 1951, further complicating the
relationship between health and social care.
Few new Homes or hospitals were constructed until the late 1950s due to financial constraints.
Surveys in the 1960s found deplorable conditions in both hospitals and Homes for older and disabled
people.
There was a trend from the 1950s towards the replacement of in patient with out patient treatment for
the mentally disabled, influenced by the increasing awareness of psychiatrists of the harmful effects of
long term institutional care for some people, and by the costs of institutions. In 1953 half of

The Technology Of The Home Appliance Market
The ThermoWave is the newest advancement in the home appliance market, a device with the
capabilities to both heat food and beverages as well as cool them. Comparable in design to a common
countertop microwave, the ThermoWave has dimensions of 18 x30 x20 for our household version.
The ThermoWave comes in a stainless steel finish and is operated through a traditional touch control
numerical pad. Controls on the device allow for heating, cooling, defrosting, thawing, as well as
options for specific items such as poultry, beef, and popcorn. Our company has chosen to market this
appliance in department stores, discount retailers, and online. The ThermoWave is priced at $159.99,
which we feel is a fair market price for the devices capabilities and production costs. Environmental
forces that affect our product and company include: competitive, technological, legal/regulatory,
economic, and sociocultural. The environmental forces are important because they are the influences
behind the market and consumer buying. Lower unemployment and inflation coupled with the current
state of recovery that our country is in are all positive forces for our company, while lower spending
on appliances is a concern for us. Our competition includes companies such as General Electric,
Whirlpool, and Samsung, all titans of the appliance industry. Though currently the ThermoWave is the
only product of its kind, we are expecting companies to emulate our product in the near future. Social

To make matters worse, they woke up late as the party had lasted until one o clock in the morning!
They used Earth time not only onboard the Odyssey but also on Gnaritus since both planets had
similar spin axes of twenty three and a half degrees. However, Gnaritus solar orbit took three hundred
and seventy four days, resulting in a slightly longer year than on Earth. Consequently, the New Year
celebrations occurred at a slightly different time than on Earth! Nonetheless, Gnaritus had the

distance from the Sun. More than a trillion long period comets with solar orbits of more than two
hundred years originate in the Oort Cloud. Furthermore, the Oort Cloud is so far away that some
comets orbit the Sun once in thirty million Earth years. It will take four days to navigate through this

Additionally, you will dine only in the main cabin and no longer in the dining compartment. If you

Examples Of Magical Realism In Bless Me Ultima
The conventions of Myths, Fables, and allegory all have magical elements in common like magical
realism. But what sets magical realism aside from these genres is that it portrays magical or unrealistic
elements in such a way that it is viewed as natural. Matthew Strecher defines magical realism as what
happens when a highly detailed realistic setting is invaded by something too strong to believe . Some
elements that authors use to support magical realism is using unexplainable things/events in the
context to be normal, metamorphosis occurring, and not using regular constructs of time.
Unexplainable magical events/things occur and are embeded in the context to be normal therefore
distinguishing it from fantasy making it an element of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author of Bless Me, Ultima also uses this element using the Trementina sisters. In chapter 10 as
ultima begins to heal lucas, the trementina sisters who have now morphed into coyotes begin to howl
in pain because of ultimas curse. Ultima says, oh those Trementina sisters are going to have cuts and
bruises tomorrow (95). It is known by the townspeople that witches have the ability to turn into
coyotes which is why it is accepted and ordinary. Another example of a metamorphosis is in Big Fish
when mr.calloway transforms into a werewolf. In the movie Edward bloom was going to see
Mr.Calloway at his trailer in the carnival but when he arrives he notices the trailer shaking and
trembling. When he opens the door expecting Mr.Calloway a werewolf jumps out at him. We know
the werewolf is Mr.Calloway because he is a harsh and unwilling man which showed through the
werewolfs actions. But after the wolf calms down Edward actually beings to play fetch with him which
shows that he did not see this as an odd thing. Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a magical realism author, also
uses this element in his story A Very Old Man With Wings when carnival comes to town and the
townspeople say she had been changed into a spider for disobeying her parents. She was a frightful
tarantula the size of a ram and with the head of a sad maiden (10). Marquez uses imagery and other
literary devices to show how unrealistic the

Love Is Characterized By Oedipus The King And Diotima s...
In Symposium by Plato, a group of men gather around to seek one s full understanding of the
underestimated reasons of Love. Despite having different occupations, they all seem to agree on their
views of love except for Socrates. Socrates communicates that Love is a god, and then decides to add
that he came to his conclusion with the help of a woman named Diotima. Although their views of love
are similar, they are also different and can be seen through another philosopher s stories; Antigone and
Oedipus. Socrates definition of love is characterized by Oedipus the King and Diotima s definition of
love is characterized by Antigone. Socrates understanding of love is that love is a desire to be
conscious of what you need for something you do not have and for what you have because once you
have it you will not feel the need to want it anymore; love is also a display of what you already have
and are afraid to lose forever. Diotima s understanding of Love is that Love is not a god, love is a demi
god. Because, he is a demi god, he is in between wisdom and ignorance.
For example, on page/s () of Sophocles book Symposium:
Socrates understanding of love can be seen in Oedipus the King through Oedipus wife and mother
Jocasta. She desires to not have shame upon her throne. Once she has it, she then realizes that she does
not want it anymore and decides to take her own life. Jocasta had realized that Oedipus was her son,
she acted as if it did not matter because no one knew. It

Modern And Brazilian Jujutsu
There are three main types of Jujitsu: Traditional, Gendai or modern, and Brazilian . Traditional jujitsu
is considered a Japanese art just as kado, or flower arrangement; and chado, or tea ceremony. JuJitsu is
composed of techniques and moves such as joint locking, throwing, sweeping, chokes, and striking.
Weapon training is also a relevant although not necessary part of Jujutsu, typically, knife, sword, or
staff. The main goal or objective of Jujutsu is to defeat the enemy by any means necessary but also
using as little effort as possible. In JuJItsu techniques should never require one to have to be stronger

Virginia Was A State Of Slavery Where White Supremacist
Virginia was a state of slavery where white supremacist did not think people of color as their own.
Virginia had always been a very conservative state even after the abolishment of slavery. In fact, there
was a case of Loving in 1967 in Virginia where white man and black woman got married without the
knowledge that it was inappropriate and a disgrace to white people. Long before they got married,
they got arrested in the middle of the night and spent the night in jail and forbid both of them from

These contradictions suggest that Europeans had never seen a black man before, and was afraid of
them. It is no surprise Europeans reacted the way they did for we tends to be more cautious around
people we had never seen or met before until we get familiar with them. In a way, I believe the author
was trying to imply that these two races were like yin and yang yin the color of black was described as
darkness/evil and yang the color of white was described as light. To support the above statement, the
author talks about the first Africans that were transported to Virginia, who were described as a people
of beastly living, without a God, law, religion /their color allegedly made them Devil incarnate (50)
and was accused of man eating creature. Europeans feared and discriminate Africans but that didn t
stop them from selling them and making them work in plantation for a certain period of time. In
addition, white blames the African for things they did not do the living image of primitive aggressions
which they said was the Negro but was really their own (50). This statement proved that white
colonizers get away with things by blaming the blacks, insisting that blacks are going to gore the life
of them and denying the fact, blacks to be their own. The first Africans in Virginia were not slaves
when they were first brought to Virginia and not reduced to property. They were merely laborers that

Essex Matheson
Now, having not seen the performance myself, I must reserve full judgement of it s content, and
relativeness to feminism. Although having read Matheson s review I can say this much.
Lexie Matheson asks the interesting question of whether we really belong to this conversation. As I
believe she is a transgender women? Obviously the answer is yes, that everyone is included in the
discussion of feminism, as someone who has benefitted from the patriarchy most of their lives, the
discussion is one that I take part in but am incredibly wary of, for I don t wish to offend or
accidentally misrepresent the subject.
Clare Croft s article talks about the physical responses to prompts, as she removes the word girl from
rehearsals and gives them words such as bossy or scarred. With this she achieves a less hetero
normative performance as it removed the idea s of femineity and gender. She also talks of the loudness
of the male actors in comparison to the females, and how it draws the eye away. This is one way in
which IF THERE S NOT DANCING AT THE REVOLUTION, I M NOT COMING... achieves
feminist goals. By removing the male from the stage, directing the focus to the Julia Croft and paying
attention to her representations of gender. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a blatant representation of feminism saying, look here! These parts shouldn t be wrong. This is,
in my opinion, correct as well. As a patriarchal society we have made so much of the female body an
object of desire, but also rude, in human history that we now have a problem viewing a naked figure.
This also reflects things such as the Free the Nipple! movement of late. Matheson also touches upon
this point saying that it is a gesture of trust offering your naked body on stage and the audience needs
to deserve that intimacy, which helps to give power to an objectified

Analysis Of Nathaniel Branden s The Art Of Living
The Art of Living Consciously: The Power of Awareness to Transform Everyday Life, Nathaniel
Branden challenges his readers to turn up the light of consciousness, explaining that consciousness
exists on a continuum, and our choice is between living more or less consciously. Consciousness is
our basic tool for successful modification to reality. The more conscious we are in any situation, the
more possibilities we tend to notice, the more options we have, the more powerful we are, even the
longer we will live. To deny oneself of consciousness is to live unconsciously, in a life drained of
color, excitement or passion. Living consciously means seeking to be aware of everything that abides
on our actions, purposes, values, and goals; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Branden s facility in explaining these subjects is inspirational; he has many visions into the subject
matter, and it is often enlightening to see how he introduces these ideas to the inexperienced. Chapter
two explains the free will as a function of mental focus, the fact that context determines what level of
focus is appropriate, how one learns to run some activities on automatic and the motives for fleeing
focus. Branden s technique of sentence completion, familiar from his previous works, is also
explained here. Chapters one and two are the basis for Branden s theory by exploring the nature of
human consciousness and its suitable association to reality. Chapters three and four describe in detail
the meaning of full consciousness and its connection to happiness. Chapter three takes up the need to
consider the consequences inferred in one s actions, the need to consider the knowledge required for
success, and the need to cope feelings that pull one away from focus. Chapter four first deals with
areas that one must bring consciousness, including romantic, familial, and professional relations, and
then with the need for a consciousness of one s context and ideas. Chapter five strains the importance
of directing awareness toward the details of one s inner world , the body, needs, wants, emotions, and
actions.

Outsourcing Is Becoming A Norm
Introduction airline outsourcing
Outsourcing is defined as the decision to buy goods and services from external sources rather than
producing them in house when internal provision is not justified in light of existing or anticipated
business condition (Leenders Nollett, 1984). It is a common solution to outsource non strategic
business functions in order to diminish distraction and focuses managerial attention on operations
within the scope of a company s core competencies. This practice is widely adopted by today s
enterprises around the world, including airlines, to control costs, improve efficiencies and increase
profitability (Feldman, 1992). However, although airlines are outsourcing their operations in order to
remain competitive in increasingly challenging business environments, such practice may not always
be successful and its theoretical justification may not have been fully explored (Rieple Helm, 2008).
This paper studies the potential boundaries to what airlines can or cannot outsource in their operations,
and whether financial considerations are paramount in such decisions.
The benefits of airline outsourcing
Outsourcing is becoming a norm and the next critical business process many enterprises are
addressing (Lindegaard, 2004). Today s competitive commercial environment has forced airlines to
explore methods to improve efficiency, and one of the common solutions is to outsource non strategic
business functions. Reservation and ticketing, customer service

Analysis Of Hillbilly Elegy
The multidimensional expression hillbilly carries different cultural significances throughout the book
Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance. First, Vance utilizes the term hillbilly to refer to the working class white
Americans of Scots Irish descent who have no college degree (3). Second, Vance uses the term
hillbilly to refer to a group of people from a specific geographic area, namely the area of the
Appalachian Mountains. According to Vance, the area stretches from Alabama to Georgia in the South
to Ohio to parts of New York in the north (4). Third, hillbilly indicates the way of life, behavior, or
identity of the people of Greater Appalachia.
Throughout the book, Vance describes particular behaviors, customs, and attitudes that distinguish the
hillbilly culture and set them apart from the White Anglo Saxon Protestants or WASPS (3). For
example, Vance describes hillbillies as those with an intense sense of loyalty, a fierce dedication to
family and country who do not like outsiders or people different from us, whether the difference lies in
how they look, how they act, or most important, how they talk. (3). Notably, throughout the entirety of
the book, Vance continuously and consistently identifies himself as a hillbilly. In order to fully grasp
Hillbilly Elegy one must understand that Vance writes not as an observer of the hillbilly culture, but as
someone who has lived the hillbilly life and knows the culture from firsthand experience. All
throughout the book, it

Matinees musicales were written purposely as a ballet. In the beginning, it was a subito dynamic
which occurred in 5 intervals, followed by a happy/cheery like piano dynamic theme that represented
the march. This part the ballerinas showed a light but fast footwork. Throughout the composition the
beat was recurring to the movement before it and in some instances it mimic the beat but in lower

a fast moving instrumental music that consists of mainly of notes that are of equal length. Along with

The march was a grand subito with a fast tempo following the canzonetta that was more ritantando of

Juvenile Criminals
I believe juveniles with a major criminal background, such as murder should be sued as adults and
faced life in prison if it s necessary. Being a minor should not be an excuse to pay for the felonies
someone commits. Although many opponents think that a minor shouldn t be charged as an adult,
arguing that juveniles don t know what they doing when they are doing something illegal because a
brain of a teen is not fully develop until they are 18 years old. But is it true? Who proved that? A
criminal not only affects his victim, but also third persons for example the victim s family and
sometimes even the criminal s family. Back in 2001 a young man was murdered by another teen. They
were good friends and neighbors. When the 17 ½ year old found ... Show more content on

The Importance Of English Education
Based on the numerous sources of sound data available, U.S. is currently out educated. On the latest
Program for International Student Assessment form 2015, the United States scored an average in
reading and science, and below average in math. Results had been unchanged since 2000. U.S. scores
are behind global leaders like Finland, South Korea and Canada. It is not a surprise that Shanghai
outscored every other country, in all areas tested.
As U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Dunkan said at the Foreign Language Summit, 2010: We have to
educate our way to a better economy, just as our competitors are doing. We see this as a challenge to
get better, and one place we obviously need to get better is in teaching languages. The United States is
a long way from being the multi lingual society that so many of our competitors are. My message to
you today is that K 12 schools and higher education institutions must be part of the solution to our
language gap.
A world class education requires students to read and communicate other languages, in addition to
English. We need the Department of Education support now, more than ever, in implementing second
language instruction starting with early education and continuing engaging students in language,
throughout high school and college. In an increasingly complex and interconnected world, it is
without a doubt of utmost importance for the citizens of the United States to become fluent in the
world languages. As Americans, we have

The Symbolism Of Color In Richard Wright s Native Son
What is black, white, and red all over? A sunburned zebra, of course! These three colors also describe
events that occur in Richard Wright s novel Native Son. While a great deal of importance is placed on
the color black, white remains present throughout the novel. The colors combine in many instances to
lend great significance to characterization and setting. Through symbolism, Wright uses the colors
black and white to illustrate the major problem of the era: the separation of black and white
Americans. Furthermore, Wright utilizes communist red to emphasize the novel s overwhelming black
and white imagery. From the first pages of the novel, Bigger is associated with the color black. The
most obvious is his skin color, as well as the fact that most of the action of the plot is located in the
Black Belt of South Chicago. The Black ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

when Bigger enters the Dalton household, the white cat glares at him with its red eyes. After meeting

lips that differ from her milky skin and jet black hair. Also, the contrasting image of the white bones,
in the black ashes in the flaming furnace continues to show the overlap of the three colors. After
burning Mary, Bigger lights up a white cigarette and then runs off to Bessie. Thinking that she is going

The Shallows Essay
In today s era, we depend a lot on technology and the internet. For daily things such as school, work,

positive or negative contribution. In the book, The Shallows: What the internet is doing to our brains,
by Nicholas Carr, it speaks about how the internet is changing a huge aspect of our lives. From our
thought process to our attention span. I believe that this generation and era, all together as a

While the intention was that the People s Insurance Company of Canada (PICC) would have an
organic organizational structure, this intention was at least partially offset by the close integration of
the Insurance company with the parent People s Bank. The result was an entity in which the
superficially organic, generally non hierarchical Insurance organization has been overridden by the
highly hierarchical and mechanistic bank organization. The PICC s actual structure has both
mechanistic and organic aspects. With regard to work specialization, it is generally narrow and
mechanistic with the VP for HR, Mary Thorne, fighting an ongoing battle with the Bank on the
grounds that PICC needed staff with specialized skills in the insurance industry. With respect to chain
of command, while the structure of PICC was intended to be open, non hierarchical and organic, it is
clear that it is generally mechanistic in its most important aspects. For example, while there may be an
open office environment in general, the senior team members have private offices. Similarly, while the
the emphasis of PICC is towards self managing teams, many approvals such as new purchases had to
be signed off by multiple layers of the bank s management. Thus, the chain of command is very rigid
in terms of its senior decision makers. In terms of centralization of decision making, it appears that

Jesus Christ As The Center Of Discipleship
When someone think about Jesus Christ being the center of discipleship there are two things that
comes to mind; change and commitment within the disciple. One day Jesus Christ was walking by the
sea of Galilee when He saw Simon and Andrew fishing; he said to them, Follow me and I will make
you fishers of men Matthew 4:19 . The next verse show them immediately dropping their nets and
followed Jesus Christ. The actions of Simon and Andrew is described best by Putman, Harrington, and
Coleman in the text book Disciple Shift. The text breaks Matthew 4:19 into three key elements; which
are Following Christ, is being changed by Christ, and is committed to the mission of Christ . It is the

Although dams can have negative outcomes, they are not the only projects with destructive effects.
Roads and highways also produce unintentional harm. In the 1970s, when Amazonian deforestation

easier access into the rainforest, the government built the Trans Amazonian Highway ( Tropical ). This

The Feminist Movement Of Women Essay
Miller s work helped to shed light on the intersectionality of women s movements, not everyone
agreed on what changes feminism should bring or if it should exist at all in Mexican society. Before
her work, there existed a generally accepted assumption among politically active women that their
common interests as women in gaining the vote, in health care, in education cut across class
backgrounds and ideological orientations. This was most certainly not the case in Mexico, as Miller
found out, being involved in the feminist movement meant that women risked losing not only
respectability but their claim, as women and mothers, to the protection of society. Women played a
major role in the protection of the longevity of societal norms, as they trained the next generation.
This idea was so entrenched in the Mexican social mores that women involved in the feminist
movement were considered to not be decent mothers or women. This led to a counter movement by
the Union of Catholic Women of Mexico that asserted that women place was in the home, and equated
socialism with free love and feminism. Miller s book fits well with the other revisionist history work
that is going on during the late 1980s and 1990s. She notes that revisionist work has been going on in
all disciplines, not just history, For nearly two decades, scholars and activists have painstakingly
reexamined every field of human endeavor to reconquer revindivar a space for women in history,

The Sea s Ability Of An Intertidal Rock Platform
Introduction
The sea s ability to produce an intertidal rock platform was first commented on as early as 1846 by
Ramsey, and then decisively classified into four themes by Trenhaile (1980), which is still relevant to
scientist studying the formations today. The four themes are: 1) the role of marine and subaerial
processes in platform development; 2) morphology of shore platforms; 3) modelling platform
development; and 4) measuring rates of erosion (Stevenson 1, 2000). Research has commonly
assumed that the origins of the shore platform are wave cut, however in recent years there has been
research into a wider range of platforms and process leading to more theories.
Defining and Distinguishing between Shore Platforms
In order attempt to distinguish between different types of shore platforms, the most basic form of
description is those, which slope seaward, and then those with a distinctive seaward edge
characterised by a cliff (Stephenson et al., 2013). Sunamura has helped characterize those cliffs with
the use of calling the slope edge a Type A Platform and a Cliff edge and a Type B Platform, this is
represented in Figure 1. Fig. 1. A visual representations of shore platform categories as described by
Sunamura (1992) in Kennedy (2015).
Morphological Approaches
It is a contentious issue amongst researchers as to whether weathering or wave erosion have a bigger
role in the development of a shore platform. Bartrum, 1935; Hills, 1972) both regard wave erosion as

mentioned that he had has suicidal thoughts lately. He cited his children as the protective factor. His
brother died due to a car accident and he has been blamed by his father to be the cause of his death
since then. He also witnessed his friend diedin an accident when he was 10 and has been getting more

Depression was one of the common presenting complaints during our postings. It is found that one
fifth of the Scottish population will experience depression at some point in their lives. The severity
can range from mild disturbances to a severe illness with a high risk of suicide.
Detecting depression is essential in general practice and to even raise the topic can be difficult.
Patients feel reluctant to raise such distressing issues up till it gets severe and so their concerns remain
unvoiced. Some on the other hand resist the idea of the possible diagnosis and not want

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Character Analysis
In the essay, I am using the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer to argue that contrary to
common belief, happiness cannot be achieved through virtuous acts of power and honor. In Buffy the
Vampire Slayer, the titular character finds herself at the forefront of the fight against evil; this is
known to not be a personal choice but rather a prophecy indicating her as the chosen one . Throughout
the course of the show, the main character is caught in the struggle between good and evil and never
truly finds the happiness she believes she deserves. By examining the underlying meanings in the
television show, one might find that achieving happiness is more complex than simply being a good
and honorable person with a plethora of power. At ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having said that, power plays a major role in Buffy s struggle for happiness. At times, her power is
taken for granted, whether it be by her own actions or by those of her allies, and such an act weighs
heavily on Buffy. There are times throughout the series that Buffy questions her physical ability and if
she can truly trust her own strength. Just because Buffy embodies a powerful warrior doesn t
necessarily mean that she automatically is granted the happiness she is thought to deserve. It is often
the case that her power causes a strain on her personal life which results in an extremely unhappy
Buffy. So, while her power gives her the ability to do good and be an honorable person, it also adds an
unexpected problem in her life. In Beyond Good and Evil, Nietzsche explains that the gaze of a slave
is not well disposed towards the virtues of the powerful; he possesses skepticism and mistrust...against
everything good ...he would like to persuade himself that even happiness is not genuine there (3).
Buffy clearly resembles what Nietzsche was saying by not trusting her power and being skeptical of
its effect on her life. Buffy the Vampire Slayer often portrays the dark side of what is commonly
thought of as enviable. The power that Buffy possess is shown to be another obstacle that keeps the
character from truly being

What Are The Roles Of Women In 19th Century Russia
Feminism (Or Lack Thereof) In Nineteenth Century Russia Throughout history, women have not been
seen as equal to men, both politically and socially. As time has gone on, this has improved, however,
in nineteenth century Russia, women were seen as objects rather than as people. They had no rights
economically, could not vote, and spent their lives under the control of a man. In the 1997 film Anna
Karenina, which was based on a novel by Leo Tolstoy, we see firsthand the effect that sexism had on
the lives of women. The women featured in this movie have no control over their own lives. In
particular, we see how marriage was an institution that forced women under the control of their
husbands. The 1870s in Russia (when Anna Karenina takes place)

Kant s Notion Of Good
Kant s notion of good;
For Kant, he starts out by saying, Nothing in the world or out of it! can possibly be conceived that
could be called good without qualification except a GOOD WILL (Kant, 2008). Kant further explains
this statement through the first and second chapter. He initially says that many things can be
considered good such as; judgments, resoluteness, and perseverance can be undoubtedly good but can
become bad if the person s character isn t good or if their will in using them isn t good. He further says
that a will is not good because of what it leads to but because it s good in itself.
Kant introduces the word duty where he says one can only perform an action from duty if that action
is what he directly wanted to do. He leads to the conclusion of the definition of duty after describing
two cases where one might perform an action that could be mistaken as out of duty and they include
actions done with some kind of benefit to the doer or where one does an action that in is in accord
with duty but he doesn t want to perform that action but another which requires him to perform that
action.
One formulation can come out of the two types of love Kant talks about, the pathological love that lies
in the direction of the person s feelings and practical love that lies in the will and principles of action.
He makes a second proposition, an action doesn t get its moral value from the purpose through it but
from the maxim that it involves . Take an example of a

Summary Of The Middle Class In Madame Bovary
The middle class in France during the early 1800s, otherwise known as the Bourgeoisie, was defined
by capitalistic views and business minded outlooks. However, many people of this era, including
author Gustave Flaubert, were highly critical of this middle class. In Flaubert s novel Madame Bovary,
the character Homais represents the ideas and spirit of the Bourgeoisie. Because of his dissatisfaction
with the middle class, the author gives Homais several negative character traits, such as selfishness,
cowardice, and hypocrisy. Flaubert s criticism of the egotistical and corrupt nature of Homais is
evident during the procedure on Hippolyte and the argument between Homais and the priest; Homais
triumph at the end of the novel suggests that Flaubert is also critical of the outcome of the pharmacist
s actions, not just the actions themselves.
Flaubert establishes Homais cowardice when he refuses to take responsibility for the failed operation
on Hippolyte. Charles originally does not want to take part in this procedure, but Homais urges him to
do so. After the operation is deemed a failure, Monsieur Canivet criticizes Charles to Homais when he
says, But some doctors want to be smart, so they use all sorts of remedies on their patients without
worrying about the consequences... and, ...we wouldn t dream of operating on someone who s in
perfect health! (Flaubert 157). Even though Homais knows that he pressured Charles into performing
this operation, he does not say anything to Canivet that expresses his partial responsibility. Flaubert
writes, He therefore did not defend Bovary or make any comment at all; abandoning his principles, he
sacrificed his pride to the more serious interests of his business (157). Therefore, Flaubert criticizes
the spineless nature of Homais by emphasizing his lack of response to Canivet s insults. The author
reveals Homais character trait of irresponsibility in this scene, suggesting that Flaubert views the
Bourgeoisie as cowardly. Homais and the middle class, in the mind of Flaubert, are too craven to be
held accountable for any action that would hurt their reputations.
In addition to demonstrating Homais cowardly nature, the operation scene also serves to reveal his

Immediately after entering the stomach, water and the unusable plasma of the ingested blood are
absorbed by the lining of the stomach (Breidenstein, 1982). The majority of the dry matter in blood is
mainly proteins, so the digestive system of the Arctic vampire lizard goes to work on breaking these
proteins down (Breidenstein, 1982). Beginning in the stomach, the enzyme pepcin begins breaking
some of the peptide bonds of the proteins (Silk et al. 1985). The contents of the stomach are then
quickly transported to the small intestine, where pancreatic enzymes continue to hydrolyze the
polypeptides, breaking them into individual amino acids (Silk et al. 1985). In the small intestine, the
amino acids are diffused through the intestinal lining into the tangent blood vessels to be delivered
through the body through the circulatory system (Silk et al. 1985). The liver can then convert amino
acids like alanine to glucose through a process called gluconeogenesis (Yoon et al. 2001). The glucose
is then made into ATP through aerobic respiration, producing water and carbon dioxide (Yoon et al.

The Explosion Of Rock N Roll Era
The explosion of Rock n Roll in the mid 1950 s helped bring to the forefront of American society the
idea that social, cultural, and musical change was deeply needed. By 1959, the initial success and jolt
of the Rock n Roll era, that took the American youth by storm three years earlier, had officially fallen
apart at the seams. The late 1950 s and early 1960 s marked a period of decline for the Rock and Roll
genre. The parting of Elvis Presley for the military in 1958, the death of Buddy Holly and two other
members of The Crickets in 1959, and the departure of the other members of Rock and Roll s Big Five
throughout much of the late 1950 s had devastated America s hope for social and musical change
(Ashton Lecture). With this breakdown of Rock n Roll, came an era that was once again dominated
and mesmerized by the Jazz, Pop and Country Western genres. The Rock and Roll flame that
captivated so many American citizens throughout much of the 1950 s was slowly beginning to
dwindle back into the darkness. As all hope seemed to be lost, a new dawn for Rock and Roll was
gradually appearing. In 1963 1964 with the introduction of a small British band from Liverpool,
England, the dawn that everyone was waiting for had finally arrived and with it would change Rock n
Roll history forever.

Ideology In The Revolution Of 1848 Essay
The Role of Ideology in the Revolutions of 1848
Year 1848 is described as mad year mad with fight for freedom. Already its first months, in almost all
parts of Europe, brought explosion of aims and aspirations, which were accumulated during the after
congress period. Revolutionary movements spread throughout the whole Europe, apart from Russia,
where the system of serfdom did not allow any revolts, and Great Britain, where the reforms were
carried out in non revolutionary channels. Despite the differences in social, economic and political
structures of European countries, the revolutions of 1848 were characterised by uniformity, and their
ideology was a common denominator.

Because of overall crises, many reforms were needed, most of which had an ideological background.
Nevertheless, the ideology did not play a huge role throughout the whole revolution. Year 1848 can be
divided into three periods which were characterised by variable importance of new ideas of 19th
century. The main ideology in opposition to the order established during the Congress of Vienna was
often called liberalism . This name indicates that the primary motive of it was to strive after freedom
in contrary to dependence and restrictions forced on societies and individuals by absolute monarchs.
Colloquially, all people who were against absolute regime and were after constitution established by
nations representativer, were called liberals. They demanded freedom of religion and tolerance,
freedom of word, press and societies. They thought that everybody should be equal as far as law is
concerned.
Another 19th century idea was radicalism, which was pretty much the same ideology, with only slight
differences: radicals supported republican form of power rather than constitutional monarchy, they
wanted common right to vote, they were saying less about freedom of an individual, more about social
justice.
At the beginning of the revolutions 1848, the ideology was extremely important. All social classes

Freedom In John Locke s Second Treatise Of Government
John Locke has a very distinct definition of freedom, which remains the foundation of his account
throughout Second Treatise of Government. He believes that freedom is the groundwork for the
natural state of humans, property, and the highest good. Locke was one of the first philosophers to
consider the natural rights of women children and slaves, and he states very early in his writings, that
all humans are characteristically in a state of perfect freedom . This allows humans to control their
actions, determine their person, and think without the will of any other human. In their natural state,
humans have the ability to order their actions as they see fit, because of their freedom. Locke argues
that the reason people naturally have perfect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore a person is not free until they are capable of knowing and understanding the law, but once
they have reached maturity, they are capable of knowing the law and using it as an outline. The
freedom then of man, and liberty of acting according to his own will, is grounded on his having
reason, which is able to instruct him in that law he is to govern himself by, and make him know how
far he is left to the freedom of his own will (Locke Chap. 6, Sec. 63). Children have an equal right to
life, but are not fully free, because they lack a developed understanding of the law. Because each
person owns his or her body, they are in control of their bodily person, and also the work of their
hands. For instance, if a potato farmer puts his efforts into farming the land and cultivation his crops,
he would be the owner of his crops and all profits made from the potatoes. He would have the freedom
to eat, trade or sell his potatoes in whatever manner he sees fit. The labour of his body, and the work
of his hands are entirely his (Locke Chap. 5, Sec. 27). It is the duty of the farmer to maximize the
benefits of his

Radio History
Joe Clark January 21, 2002 Mrs. Perkins AP U.S. History The radio has evolved over time. The radio
we listen to today has a different format, purpose, viewer reach, and clarity than it did before the
1950s. The radio has survived the threat of the television industry by changing with the times. It has
been dealt with in the law through acts and the creation of the government regulating agency (FCC).
Today the radio is the cheapest and most affective way to communicate with everyone around the
world. It began with the invention of the telegraph by Samuel Morse in 1844 and developed as the
knowledgeable minds of inventors and engineers worked from the late 1800s to the present to create
the powerful communications medium we know today ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with the ability to connect stations by wire came cultural issues. Americans feared monopolies.
AT T already controlled the telephone business and also had control over the radio wires. AT T feared
that they would lose their telephone monopoly if they did not withdraw from the radio monopoly. At
the same time RCA, GE, and Westinghouse worried about government interference. These companies
were interested in achieving national radio with maximum profit and minimum public fuss over
monopoly (Smulyan 58). In 1926 they solved the problem by creating a separate broadcast
organization that would lease telephone lines from AT T. The new company was NBC (National
Broadcasting System). Now there were two NBC stations that were operated independently that had
coast to coast connections to local stations. The arrangement pleased the government, the companies,
and the public (Vivian 177). Radio was still lacking in regulations. There were too many stations
broadcasting at the same frequencies interrupting each others broadcasts. This was frustrating for the
listeners and the broadcasters. The solution was the Radio Act of 1927 (Keith 6). This act created the
Federal Radio Commission (FRC). The FRC s responsibility was to license radio stations ‘if public
convenience, interest or necessity is thereby served. The law also stated that the air waves were
property of the United States government and renewable licenses would be issued for three year

[ii] Senator Murphy don t deliver the manuscript (with a chance of 20%)
The costs for B C associated with this probable outcome are the advance payment paid for the Senator
upon signing agreement, i.e. $500,000 and the incremental cost of $50,000. [iii] B C decides to kill the
book (with a chance of 75%)
Provided that Murphy delivers the book, $250,000 for editorial services plus all the costs associated
with the first outcome will be the cost in line with this outcome. [iv] B C publishes the book (with a
chance of 25%)
Again assuming that Murphy delivers a completed manuscript the costs associated with this outcome
in addition to the cost in the first outcome will be;

Advantages And Benefits Of Stretching
Benefits Of Stretching:
Stretching to increase your range of motion is simple in theory, but it is not easy in practice. It requires
concentration, patience and strength.
Increased flexibility and joint range of motion:
Flexible muscles can improve your daily performance. Tasks such as lifting packages, bending to tie
your shoes or hurrying to catch a bus become easier and less tiring. Flexibility tends to diminish as
you get older, but you can regain and maintain it.
Circulation:
Stretching increases blood flow to your muscles. Blood flowing to your muscles brings nourishment
and gets rid of waste byproducts in the muscle tissue. Improved circulation can help shorten your
recovery time if you ve had any muscle injuries.
Better posture: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neck Stretches:
Stretches can be done with self assistance to obtain a more efficient stretch. Here you can learn how to
perform self assisted stretches of the neck. Although the benefits of stretching are many, is not for
everyone. Conditions in which stretching should be avoided include:
Muscle Strains:
People who have suffered an acute muscle strain should avoid placing further stress on the muscle
through stretching activities. The injured muscle should be given time to rest. Stretching muscle fibers
in the acute period can result in further injury.
Fractured Bones:
After breaking a bone, the fracture site needs time to heal. Stretching muscles that surround this
injured area can place stress on the bone and prevent it from healing as well as further displace the
break. Stretching a joint that surrounds a broken bone should never be done until cleared by your
physician.
Joint Sprains:
When you sprain your joint, you overstretch the ligaments that help stabilize the bones that form the
joint. For this reason stretching early after a joint sprain should be avoided. As with fractures, these
structures need time to heal and stretching too early in the injury will delay this

Compare And Contrast Camaro Vs Ford Mustang
A Lot of people argue about what car is better the Ford Mustang or the Chevy Camaro. To a lot of
people the Camero is better but not to me. The Ford Mustang has a lot of features better than the
camaro. In the first place, I think a mustang is better because it s been around for 11 years longer than
the camaro. Plus as far as the new ones go they re more visually appealing with curves and soft lines
while the new camaros are very square with hard lines. Especially the dashboard is a little too tall for
my taste and it s a more expensive car. In the second place, On U.S News.com it states that the
mustang has been an American icon since Ford introduced it as a 2 seat concept car built on the
compact Ford Falcon platform in 1962. The car

85% of lung cancers are non small cancers, and at least 80% of that comes from smoking (American

Cigarette smoke is harmful and it contains over 60 known carcinogens particularly polycyclic
aromatic hydrocarbons and nitrosamines. Cytochrome P450 enzymes metabolically activate these
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and nitrosamines, which can then bind to DNA leading to DNA
adducts.(Br Med Bull (2010). These carcinogens are main reasons that a person who smokes a lot of
cigarette is likely to get lung cancer, or that person may not cancer at all. Genetic studies have
identified a nicotine dependence locus on chromosome 15q24 25, which includes the αα5 α3 β4
nicotinic receptor gene cluster. A polymorphism, which alters an amino acid in the αα5 nicotinic
receptor subunit, also influences the risk for lung cancer, COPD and vascular disease (Br Med Bull
(2010)).
Chronic inflammation predispose of lung cancer. Chronic lung inflammation predisposes to lung
cancer. There is a 4 5 times greater risk for developing lung cancer among those with COPD
independent of age or smoking history (Lee G 2009). Even among non smokers, the presence of
emphysema on CT scan or a history of COPD is significantly associated with an increased risk of
developing lung cancer (Yang P, Sun Z, Krowka MJ, 2008) Chronic persistent inflammation may also

  • 3. The Influences On The Life Of Olaudah Equiano s Life Olaudah Equiano was a former slave and anti slavery campaigner. He went through many hardships and used them to help others. Equiano was kidnapped and sold into slavery at a young age under terrible conditions which inspired him to write The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano. Olaudah Equiano was born in 1745 in Nigeria. At age eleven, he and his sisters were kidnapped and taken into the custody of slaveholders. They were separated and boarded on overcrowded, disease stricken ships heading to the Middle Passage. He was taken to Barbados and then shipped to Virginia. There he endured many punishments while being pushed to do hard labor. In 1757, Equiano was bought by a mariner and renamed Gustavas Vassa. Equiano learned how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Construction Project Essay The design phase in the construction project life cycle is considered as a significant contributor to the project performance. Many researchers have considered this phenomenon as being dependent on the project success which comprises of quality, cost, time and sustainability. Nowadays, most of the construction projects must be delivered through the fast track, therefore it is difficult to co ordinate between the specialists and personnel as there is no accepted platform of good practice in managing the design process (Bibby, 2003). Although some technologies have been developed and applied in construction projects, the performance of the construction industry is still considered low (Sacks Goldin, 2007). (Aziz Hafez, 2013) argue that the current technologies can only improve the management of the construction process, however, in improving quality of the projects effectively, it does not reduce cost and time of design and construction. This is referred to as the traditional method that is still in place and currently being practiced in the industry. The objective of this work is to present the innovative design process in building construction projects where lean thinking (LT) is being considered for design process improvements. This research proposes a design process model that integrates LT into the traditional design process with activities which are able to eliminate wastes in the design process. The model is based on the set based concurrent engineering (SBCE) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Who Is Theseus In A Midsummer Night s Dream Analysis of the Character Theseus Love is a theme that is greatly explored throughout A Midsummer Night s Dream, and is experienced in many different ways among the different characters. Focusing on the character of Theseus, we see that his portrayal of love is very different to the rest of the lovers, and we even question whether he is experiencing love at all. His character and views on love develop drastically during the play, and I want to explore this progression in detail. Although he only appears in the beginning and end of the play, Theseus is a key character with great power and influence. Being the mythic leader of Athens, Theseus is the overall dispenser of justice throughout the play. When Egeus turns to him to settle the dispute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first he does not believe the lovers story about their time in the woods and dismisses Hippolyta s concerns, saying I never may believe there antique fables, nor these fairy toys (5.1.2). He rejects the ideas of magic, only accepting explanations that are logical and which make sense to him. We see that Theseus logical mindset fits perfectly with the overall scene in Athens, which is a place of fact and reality. During the play within a play in act 5, Theseus begins to recognize the need for imagination in order to believe the ridiculous situations of the play. Earlier, Theseus did not yet understand the value of imagination and dreaming, which we see when he compares the lunatic, the lover, and the poet. Although they are three very different types of people, he states that all three are of imagination all compact (5.1.8), meaning they all have a similarity: they are dreamers. Towards the end of the play of Pyramus and Thisbe, we begin to see Theseus become more open to imagination, stating that it is needed to make sense of the ridiculous plot of the play he is ... • 8. Importance Of Association For Mental Health Association for Mental Health (now MIND) was formed to campaign for better provision for the mentally disabled. The National Assistance (NA) Act, 1946, implemented 1948, abolished the Poor Law/Public Assistance and established the National Assistance Board (NAB), which took over its institutions and responsibility for means tested benefits. However, all hospitals were absorbed into the National Health Service, also established 1948. Older and disabled people were divided into the sick , who were placed in hospitals (c. 90,000 people) and those needing care and attention (c. 42,000) who were placed in residential homes, overwhelmingly former workhouses. The NAB was responsible to the Minister of Health, but semi independent and required to work also with the new Ministry of National Insurance, whose benefits it supplemented. The National Assistance Act was piloted through the Commons jointly by the Minister of Health, Aneurin Bevan and the Minister of National Insurance, Jim Griffiths. The boundary between health care and social care was far from clear and could not easily be for older and disabled people. In 1966 the NAB was abolished and replaced by the Supplementary Benefits Commission. In 1968 this was absorbed into a new Department of Health and Social Security which replaced the Ministries of Health and National Insurance, where it remained until 1988, when a separate Department of Health was established. Responsibility for local government moved permanently from the Ministry of Health to a separate in department in 1951, further complicating the relationship between health and social care. Few new Homes or hospitals were constructed until the late 1950s due to financial constraints. Surveys in the 1960s found deplorable conditions in both hospitals and Homes for older and disabled people. There was a trend from the 1950s towards the replacement of in patient with out patient treatment for the mentally disabled, influenced by the increasing awareness of psychiatrists of the harmful effects of long term institutional care for some people, and by the costs of institutions. • 9. The Technology Of The Home Appliance Market The ThermoWave is the newest advancement in the home appliance market, a device with the capabilities to both heat food and beverages as well as cool them. Comparable in design to a common countertop microwave, the ThermoWave has dimensions of 18 x30 x20 for our household version. The ThermoWave comes in a stainless steel finish and is operated through a traditional touch control numerical pad. Controls on the device allow for heating, cooling, defrosting, thawing, as well as options for specific items such as poultry, beef, and popcorn. Our company has chosen to market this appliance in department stores, discount retailers, and online. The ThermoWave is priced at $159.99, which we feel is a fair market price for the devices capabilities and production costs. Environmental forces that affect our product and company include: competitive, technological, legal/regulatory, economic, and sociocultural. The environmental forces are important because they are the influences behind the market and consumer buying. Lower unemployment and inflation coupled with the current state of recovery that our country is in are all positive forces for our company, while lower spending on appliances is a concern for us. Our competition includes companies such as General Electric, Whirlpool, and Samsung, all titans of the appliance industry. Though currently the ThermoWave is the only product of its kind, we are expecting companies to emulate our product in the near future. Social media and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To make matters worse, they woke up late as the party had lasted until one o clock in the morning! They used Earth time not only onboard the Odyssey but also on Gnaritus since both planets had similar spin axes of twenty three and a half degrees. However, Gnaritus solar orbit took three hundred and seventy four days, resulting in a slightly longer year than on Earth. Consequently, the New Year celebrations occurred at a slightly different time than on Earth! More than a trillion long period comets with solar orbits of more than two hundred years originate in the Oort Cloud. Furthermore, the Oort Cloud is so far away that some comets orbit the Sun once in thirty million Earth years. • 11. Examples Of Magical Realism In Bless Me Ultima The conventions of Myths, Fables, and allegory all have magical elements in common like magical realism. But what sets magical realism aside from these genres is that it portrays magical or unrealistic elements in such a way that it is viewed as natural. Matthew Strecher defines magical realism as what happens when a highly detailed realistic setting is invaded by something too strong to believe . Some elements that authors use to support magical realism is using unexplainable things/events in the context to be normal, metamorphosis occurring, and not using regular constructs of time. Unexplainable magical events/things occur and are embeded in the context to be normal therefore distinguishing it from fantasy making it an element of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author of Bless Me, Ultima also uses this element using the Trementina sisters. In chapter 10 as ultima begins to heal lucas, the trementina sisters who have now morphed into coyotes begin to howl in pain because of ultimas curse. Ultima says, oh those Trementina sisters are going to have cuts and bruises tomorrow (95). It is known by the townspeople that witches have the ability to turn into coyotes which is why it is accepted and ordinary. Another example of a metamorphosis is in Big Fish when mr.calloway transforms into a werewolf. In the movie Edward bloom was going to see Mr.Calloway at his trailer in the carnival but when he arrives he notices the trailer shaking and trembling. When he opens the door expecting Mr.Calloway a werewolf jumps out at him. We know the werewolf is Mr.Calloway because he is a harsh and unwilling man which showed through the werewolfs actions. But after the wolf calms down Edward actually beings to play fetch with him which shows that he did not see this as an odd thing. Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a magical realism author, also uses this element in his story A Very Old Man With Wings when carnival comes to town and the townspeople say she had been changed into a spider for disobeying her parents. She was a frightful tarantula the size of a ram and with the head of a sad maiden (10). Marquez uses imagery and other literary devices to show how unrealistic the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Love Is Characterized By Oedipus The King And Diotima s... In Symposium by Plato, a group of men gather around to seek one s full understanding of the underestimated reasons of Love. Despite having different occupations, they all seem to agree on their views of love except for Socrates. Socrates communicates that Love is a god, and then decides to add that he came to his conclusion with the help of a woman named Diotima. Although their views of love are similar, they are also different and can be seen through another philosopher s stories; Antigone and Oedipus. Socrates definition of love is characterized by Oedipus the King and Diotima s definition of love is characterized by Antigone. Socrates understanding of love is that love is a desire to be conscious of what you need for something you do not have and for what you have because once you have it you will not feel the need to want it anymore; love is also a display of what you already have and are afraid to lose forever. Diotima s understanding of Love is that Love is not a god, love is a demi god. Because, he is a demi god, he is in between wisdom and ignorance. For example, on page/s () of Sophocles book Symposium: Socrates understanding of love can be seen in Oedipus the King through Oedipus wife and mother Jocasta. She desires to not have shame upon her throne. Once she has it, she then realizes that she does not want it anymore and decides to take her own life. Virginia had always been a very conservative state even after the abolishment of slavery. It is no surprise Europeans reacted the way they did for we tends to be more cautious around people we had never seen or met before until we get familiar with them. In a way, I believe the author was trying to imply that these two races were like yin and yang yin the color of black was described as darkness/evil and yang the color of white was described as light. To support the above statement, the author talks about the first Africans that were transported to Virginia, who were described as a people of beastly living, without a God, law, religion /their color allegedly made them Devil incarnate (50) and was accused of man eating creature. Europeans feared and discriminate Africans but that didn t stop them from selling them and making them work in plantation for a certain period of time. In addition, white blames the African for things they did not do the living image of primitive aggressions which they said was the Negro but was really their own (50). This statement proved that white colonizers get away with things by blaming the blacks, insisting that blacks are going to gore the life of them and denying the fact, blacks to be their own. Although having read Matheson s review I can say this much. Lexie Matheson asks the interesting question of whether we really belong to this conversation. As I believe she is a transgender women? Obviously the answer is yes, that everyone is included in the discussion of feminism, as someone who has benefitted from the patriarchy most of their lives, the discussion is one that I take part in but am incredibly wary of, for I don t wish to offend or accidentally misrepresent the subject. Clare Croft s article talks about the physical responses to prompts, as she removes the word girl from rehearsals and gives them words such as bossy or scarred. With this she achieves a less hetero normative performance as it removed the idea s of femineity and gender. She also talks of the loudness of the male actors in comparison to the females, and how it draws the eye away. This also reflects things such as the Free the Nipple! movement of late. Matheson also touches upon this point saying that it is a gesture of trust offering your naked body on stage and the audience needs to deserve that intimacy, which helps to give power to an objectified ... Analysis Of Nathaniel Branden s The Art Of Living The Art of Living Consciously: The Power of Awareness to Transform Everyday Life, Nathaniel Branden challenges his readers to turn up the light of consciousness, explaining that consciousness exists on a continuum, and our choice is between living more or less consciously. Consciousness is our basic tool for successful modification to reality. The more conscious we are in any situation, the more possibilities we tend to notice, the more options we have, the more powerful we are, even the longer we will live. To deny oneself of consciousness is to live unconsciously, in a life drained of color, excitement or passion. Branden s facility in explaining these subjects is inspirational; he has many visions into the subject matter, and it is often enlightening to see how he introduces these ideas to the inexperienced. Chapter two explains the free will as a function of mental focus, the fact that context determines what level of focus is appropriate, how one learns to run some activities on automatic and the motives for fleeing focus. Branden s technique of sentence completion, familiar from his previous works, is also explained here. Chapters one and two are the basis for Branden s theory by exploring the nature of human consciousness and its suitable association to reality. Chapters three and four describe in detail the meaning of full consciousness and its connection to happiness. Chapter three takes up the need to consider the consequences inferred in one s actions, the need to consider the knowledge required for success, and the need to cope feelings that pull one away from focus. Chapter four first deals with areas that one must bring consciousness, including romantic, familial, and professional relations, and then with the need for a consciousness of one s context and ideas. Chapter five strains the importance of directing awareness toward the details of one s inner world , the body, needs, wants, emotions, and actions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Outsourcing Is Becoming A Norm Introduction airline outsourcing Outsourcing is defined as the decision to buy goods and services from external sources rather than producing them in house when internal provision is not justified in light of existing or anticipated business condition (Leenders Nollett, 1984). It is a common solution to outsource non strategic business functions in order to diminish distraction and focuses managerial attention on operations within the scope of a company s core competencies. This practice is widely adopted by today s enterprises around the world, including airlines, to control costs, improve efficiencies and increase profitability (Feldman, 1992). However, although airlines are outsourcing their operations in order to remain competitive in increasingly challenging business environments, such practice may not always be successful and its theoretical justification may not have been fully explored (Rieple Helm, 2008). This paper studies the potential boundaries to what airlines can or cannot outsource in their operations, and whether financial considerations are paramount in such decisions. The benefits of airline outsourcing Outsourcing is becoming a norm and the next critical business process many enterprises are addressing (Lindegaard, 2004). First, Vance utilizes the term hillbilly to refer to the working class white Americans of Scots Irish descent who have no college degree (3). Second, Vance uses the term hillbilly to refer to a group of people from a specific geographic area, namely the area of the Appalachian Mountains. According to Vance, the area stretches from Alabama to Georgia in the South to Ohio to parts of New York in the north (4). Third, hillbilly indicates the way of life, behavior, or identity of the people of Greater Appalachia. Throughout the book, Vance describes particular behaviors, customs, and attitudes that distinguish the hillbilly culture and set them apart from the White Anglo Saxon Protestants or WASPS (3). For example, Vance describes hillbillies as those with an intense sense of loyalty, a fierce dedication to family and country who do not like outsiders or people different from us, whether the difference lies in how they look, how they act, or most important, how they talk. (3). Notably, throughout the entirety of the book, Vance continuously and consistently identifies himself as a hillbilly. The People s Insurance Company Of Canada Name : Dolphine Bisase Id : 213349311 Assignment: Midterm Assignment, Management 3990 While the intention was that the People s Insurance Company of Canada (PICC) would have an organic organizational structure, this intention was at least partially offset by the close integration of the Insurance company with the parent People s Bank. The result was an entity in which the superficially organic, generally non hierarchical Insurance organization has been overridden by the highly hierarchical and mechanistic bank organization. The PICC s actual structure has both mechanistic and organic aspects. With regard to work specialization, it is generally narrow and mechanistic with the VP for HR, Mary Thorne, fighting an ongoing battle with the Bank on the grounds that PICC needed staff with specialized skills in the insurance industry. With respect to chain of command, while the structure of PICC was intended to be open, non hierarchical and organic, it is clear that it is generally mechanistic in its most important aspects. • 29. The Feminist Movement Of Women Essay Miller s work helped to shed light on the intersectionality of women s movements, not everyone agreed on what changes feminism should bring or if it should exist at all in Mexican society. Before her work, there existed a generally accepted assumption among politically active women that their common interests as women in gaining the vote, in health care, in education cut across class backgrounds and ideological orientations. This was most certainly not the case in Mexico, as Miller found out, being involved in the feminist movement meant that women risked losing not only respectability but their claim, as women and mothers, to the protection of society. Women played a major role in the protection of the longevity of societal norms, as they trained the next generation. This idea was so entrenched in the Mexican social mores that women involved in the feminist movement were considered to not be decent mothers or women. This led to a counter movement by the Union of Catholic Women of Mexico that asserted that women place was in the home, and equated socialism with free love and feminism. Miller s book fits well with the other revisionist history work that is going on during the late 1980s and 1990s. She notes that revisionist work has been going on in all disciplines, not just history, For nearly two decades, scholars and activists have painstakingly reexamined every field of human endeavor to reconquer revindivar a space for women in history, literature, ... The Sea s Ability Of An Intertidal Rock Platform Introduction The sea s ability to produce an intertidal rock platform was first commented on as early as 1846 by Ramsey, and then decisively classified into four themes by Trenhaile (1980), which is still relevant to scientist studying the formations today. The four themes are: 1) the role of marine and subaerial processes in platform development; 2) morphology of shore platforms; 3) modelling platform development; and 4) measuring rates of erosion (Stevenson 1, 2000). Research has commonly assumed that the origins of the shore platform are wave cut, however in recent years there has been research into a wider range of platforms and process leading to more theories. Defining and Distinguishing between Shore Platforms In order attempt to distinguish between different types of shore platforms, the most basic form of description is those, which slope seaward, and then those with a distinctive seaward edge characterised by a cliff (Stephenson et al., 2013). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having said that, power plays a major role in Buffy s struggle for happiness. At times, her power is taken for granted, whether it be by her own actions or by those of her allies, and such an act weighs heavily on Buffy. There are times throughout the series that Buffy questions her physical ability and if she can truly trust her own strength. Just because Buffy embodies a powerful warrior doesn t necessarily mean that she automatically is granted the happiness she is thought to deserve. It is often the case that her power causes a strain on her personal life which results in an extremely unhappy Buffy. So, while her power gives her the ability to do good and be an honorable person, it also adds an unexpected problem in her life. What Are The Roles Of Women In 19th Century Russia Feminism (Or Lack Thereof) In Nineteenth Century Russia Throughout history, women have not been seen as equal to men, both politically and socially. As time has gone on, this has improved, however, in nineteenth century Russia, women were seen as objects rather than as people. They had no rights economically, could not vote, and spent their lives under the control of a man. In the 1997 film Anna Karenina, which was based on a novel by Leo Tolstoy, we see firsthand the effect that sexism had on the lives of women. The women featured in this movie have no control over their own lives. In particular, we see how marriage was an institution that forced women under the control of their husbands. • 37. Kant s Notion Of Good Kant s notion of good; For Kant, he starts out by saying, Nothing in the world or out of it! can possibly be conceived that could be called good without qualification except a GOOD WILL (Kant, 2008). Kant further explains this statement through the first and second chapter. He initially says that many things can be considered good such as; judgments, resoluteness, and perseverance can be undoubtedly good but can become bad if the person s character isn t good or if their will in using them isn t good. He further says that a will is not good because of what it leads to but because it s good in itself. Kant introduces the word duty where he says one can only perform an action from duty if that action is what he directly wanted to do. He leads to the conclusion of the definition of duty after describing two cases where one might perform an action that could be mistaken as out of duty and they include actions done with some kind of benefit to the doer or where one does an action that in is in accord with duty but he doesn t want to perform that action but another which requires him to perform that action. One formulation can come out of the two types of love Kant talks about, the pathological love that lies in the direction of the person s feelings and practical love that lies in the will and principles of action. He makes a second proposition, an action doesn t get its moral value from the purpose through it but from the maxim that it involves . Take an example of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Summary Of The Middle Class In Madame Bovary The middle class in France during the early 1800s, otherwise known as the Bourgeoisie, was defined by capitalistic views and business minded outlooks. However, many people of this era, including author Gustave Flaubert, were highly critical of this middle class. In Flaubert s novel Madame Bovary, the character Homais represents the ideas and spirit of the Bourgeoisie. Because of his dissatisfaction with the middle class, the author gives Homais several negative character traits, such as selfishness, cowardice, and hypocrisy. Flaubert s criticism of the egotistical and corrupt nature of Homais is evident during the procedure on Hippolyte and the argument between Homais and the priest; Homais triumph at the end of the novel suggests that Flaubert is also critical of the outcome of the pharmacist s actions, not just the actions themselves. Flaubert establishes Homais cowardice when he refuses to take responsibility for the failed operation on Hippolyte. Charles originally does not want to take part in this procedure, but Homais urges him to do so. After the operation is deemed a failure, Monsieur Canivet criticizes Charles to Homais when he says, But some doctors want to be smart, so they use all sorts of remedies on their patients without worrying about the consequences... and, ...we wouldn t dream of operating on someone who s in perfect health! (Flaubert 157). Even though Homais knows that he pressured Charles into performing this operation, he does not say anything to Canivet that expresses his partial responsibility. Flaubert writes, He therefore did not defend Bovary or make any comment at all; abandoning his principles, he sacrificed his pride to the more serious interests of his business (157). Therefore, Flaubert criticizes the spineless nature of Homais by emphasizing his lack of response to Canivet s insults. The author reveals Homais character trait of irresponsibility in this scene, suggesting that Flaubert views the Bourgeoisie as cowardly. Homais and the middle class, in the mind of Flaubert, are too craven to be held accountable for any action that would hurt their reputations. In addition to demonstrating Homais cowardly nature, the operation scene also serves to reveal his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The majority of the dry matter in blood is mainly proteins, so the digestive system of the Arctic vampire lizard goes to work on breaking these proteins down (Breidenstein, 1982). Beginning in the stomach, the enzyme pepcin begins breaking some of the peptide bonds of the proteins (Silk et al. 1985). The contents of the stomach are then quickly transported to the small intestine, where pancreatic enzymes continue to hydrolyze the polypeptides, breaking them into individual amino acids (Silk et al. 1985). In the small intestine, the amino acids are diffused through the intestinal lining into the tangent blood vessels to be delivered through the body through the circulatory system (Silk et al. 1985). • 40. The Explosion Of Rock N Roll Era The explosion of Rock n Roll in the mid 1950 s helped bring to the forefront of American society the idea that social, cultural, and musical change was deeply needed. By 1959, the initial success and jolt of the Rock n Roll era, that took the American youth by storm three years earlier, had officially fallen apart at the seams. The late 1950 s and early 1960 s marked a period of decline for the Rock and Roll genre. The parting of Elvis Presley for the military in 1958, the death of Buddy Holly and two other members of The Crickets in 1959, and the departure of the other members of Rock and Roll s Big Five throughout much of the late 1950 s had devastated America s hope for social and musical change (Ashton Lecture). With this breakdown of Rock n Roll, came an era that was once again dominated and mesmerized by the Jazz, Pop and Country Western genres. The Rock and Roll flame that captivated so many American citizens throughout much of the 1950 s was slowly beginning to dwindle back into the darkness. As all hope seemed to be lost, a new dawn for Rock and Roll was gradually appearing. In 1963 1964 with the introduction of a small British band from Liverpool, England, the dawn that everyone was waiting for had finally arrived and with it would change Rock n Roll history forever. The Beatles, for many people, was one of the greatest Rock n Roll bands to ever live. Throughout their illustrious career, The Beatles were able not only to revolutionize and influence the ... Nevertheless, the ideology did not play a huge role throughout the whole revolution. Year 1848 can be divided into three periods which were characterised by variable importance of new ideas of 19th century. The main ideology in opposition to the order established during the Congress of Vienna was often called liberalism . This name indicates that the primary motive of it was to strive after freedom in contrary to dependence and restrictions forced on societies and individuals by absolute monarchs. Colloquially, all people who were against absolute regime and were after constitution established by nations representativer, were called liberals. They demanded freedom of religion and tolerance, freedom of word, press and societies. They thought that everybody should be equal as far as law is concerned. Another 19th century idea was radicalism, which was pretty much the same ideology, with only slight differences: radicals supported republican form of power rather than constitutional monarchy, they wanted common right to vote, they were saying less about freedom of an individual, more about social justice. Freedom In John Locke s Second Treatise Of Government John Locke has a very distinct definition of freedom, which remains the foundation of his account throughout Second Treatise of Government. He believes that freedom is the groundwork for the natural state of humans, property, and the highest good. Locke was one of the first philosophers to consider the natural rights of women children and slaves, and he states very early in his writings, that all humans are characteristically in a state of perfect freedom . This allows humans to control their actions, determine their person, and think without the will of any other human. The radio we listen to today has a different format, purpose, viewer reach, and clarity than it did before the 1950s. The radio has survived the threat of the television industry by changing with the times. It has been dealt with in the law through acts and the creation of the government regulating agency (FCC). Today the radio is the cheapest and most affective way to communicate with everyone around the world. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with the ability to connect stations by wire came cultural issues. Americans feared monopolies. AT T already controlled the telephone business and also had control over the radio wires. AT T feared that they would lose their telephone monopoly if they did not withdraw from the radio monopoly. At the same time RCA, GE, and Westinghouse worried about government interference. These companies were interested in achieving national radio with maximum profit and minimum public fuss over monopoly (Smulyan 58). In 1926 they solved the problem by creating a separate broadcast organization that would lease telephone lines from AT T. The new company was NBC (National Broadcasting System). Now there were two NBC stations that were operated independently that had coast to coast connections to local stations. The arrangement pleased the government, the companies, and the public (Vivian 177). Radio was still lacking in regulations. There were too many stations broadcasting at the same frequencies interrupting each others broadcasts. This was frustrating for the listeners and the broadcasters. The solution was the Radio Act of 1927 (Keith 6). This act created the Federal Radio Commission (FRC).
