The Roles Of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba In The 19th Century
When Sri Shirdi Sai Baba incarnated as Avatar, whole galaxy of saints also had to take birth and
function as saints, as spiritualcollaborators or adjuncts of Sri Sai Baba in the divine drama during
the later half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.Naturally our curiosity is
awakened at this point. Sri Shirdi Sai Baba wasone of the Five Perfect Masters: who then were
the other Four Perfect Masters?Aiyer has not given answer to it directly, but in his book Perfect
Masters he gaveprofiles of Upasani Baba, Tajuddin Baba, Baba Jan, Narsing Maharaj and Meher
Bababesides Sri Shirdi Sai Baba. That means, he mentioned five instead of four Perfect
Masters.Bhardawaj cited a very interesting revelation in this connection:

If youthink him to be a Yavan, He looked like a pious Hindu. No one definitely knewwhether He
was a Hindu or a Mohammedan. He celebrated the Hindu festival of Rama Navami with all due
formalities and at the same time permitted the sandal procession of the Mohammedans. ...If you
call Him Hindu, He always lived inthe masjid; if Mohammedan, He always had the dhuni, (the
sacred fire) and the following things which are contrary to Mohammedan religion, i.e., grinding
on th echakki handmill, blowing of the sankh(conch), ringing bells, oblation in the fire, bhajan,
givingof food and worshipping of Baba s feet by means of arghya (water) were alwaysallowed
there. If you think that He was a Mohammedan, the best of Brahmins and Agnihotris, leaving
aside their orthodox ways, fell prostrate at his feet. Sai Baba wassuch a saint, who saw no
difference between caste and creed and even beings andbeings. He took meat and fish with
Fakirs, but did not grumble when dogs touchedthe dishes with their mouth. ...How could He,
who even in dreams never warded off cats and dogs by harsh words and signs, refuse food to poor
and helpless people. He saw divinity in all beings. Friends and foes were alike to Him. He even
obliged the evil doer and was the same in prosperity and adversity. No doubt ever touchedHim. 22
Thus we can see that Sri Shirdi Sai Baba was indeed a unique saint.
The Galaxy of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba s Contemporary Saints
There were 54 or 56 saints who were the contemporaries of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba and were in
contact with Him in some way or the other and about whom Ihave been able to discover some
valuable information from Sai Literature and other spiritual literature of his times.
Before I briefly highlight about them, the following interesting points may be

Descriptive Narrative Descriptive Story
I threw on my favorite running pants and jump down the two flights of stairs. I have been
waiting for this day to come for months. Today was the day I would sign up for the big race. I
woke up as early as the roosters crow. My mom yells, Emma are u up?
I walk downstairs and say, Mom I have been up for hours already. I hope I make a lot of friends
today because I am new to this neighborhood and have not met anyone yet. I moved to this
neighborhood two months ago and have been too nervous to talk to anyone.
My parents and I got in the car bright and early and went to the track field. There were many
children at the field who wanted to sign up just like I did. It was my turn next and my heart was

that we would start running laps around the track. We were having fun running until I hear Squeaky

I ran over to her and noticed her knee was out of place.Raymond and I quickly went and got a
doctor. The doctor finally puts her knee back in place, but then he told us some bad news. He told
Squeaky that she couldn t run for about 6 months and had to be on crutches. The doctor left and
Squeaky started to cry. She was so upset because when she heard the bad news, she thought to
herself that she wouldn t be allowed to train her brother. She told Raymond and me what she
thought and we all got very upset. Raymond asked Squeaky if her friend Gretchen could coach him
not knowing that Gretchen moved away this summer. When I heard that Gretchen couldn t coach
Raymond, I thought of a brilliant idea. I asked Raymond, Do you want me to be your coach.
Raymond responded saying, What a good Idea. We talked for a bit longer then decided to call our
parents to pick us up. The next day, I decided to resign from the race so I would have more time to
help Raymond. Even though I really wanted to run the race, my heart was telling me helping
Raymond and Squeaky is more important. After going to the track field I went to Raymond and
Squeaky s house to hang out with them. After we hung out and talked about Raymond s big race

The Study of the Attachment by Harry Harlow and Mary...
The study of the Attachment by Harry Harlow and Mary Ainsworth The word love brings us many
meanings. But how do we learn to love? Is it something that we born with, like kind of pre
programmed behaviour or is it a something that we learn during our development? Do we bound to
others because of something that we receive on exchange or the constant proximity forms the
bound? The comprehension of what defines emotional attachments or the emotional bounding to
others, either in humans or other species, proofs that such emotions are not only a compound of
feelings but tools that nature used in order to make us to evolve and preserve life flourishing

HarlowВґs was one of the pioneers developing a research on attachment, but the main subjects on
his studied were monkeys; in contrast, Ainsworth studied the attachment of humans. Harlow s
developed his studies with orphan s rhesus monkeys in laboratory. By using two made wire
models mothers. One of the wire mothers had a bottle to feed the baby and other, had no bottle,
but it was covered on terry cloth. Harlow observed how important was the bound made by the
monkey baby on both surrogate mothers, Babies used the wired with bottle to feed only but the one
covered on terry cloth provided the emotional bound and further on the experiments, the terry cloth
provided confidence and security. (Harlow, H.F. 1962) Harlow put the bases of understanding the
patterns on how behaviour occurs; looking into feeding and tactile affection on producing comfort
and security he could define differences on monkeys in their social and cognitive development.
Doing that he did categorized some behaviours such secure, insecure, anxious, confidante, but he
did not elaborate further on the type or qualities of such forms of attachment, that was exactly what
Ainsworth s was focused on. Ainsworth developed the laboratory study called The Strange
Situation Where the mother and the baby ware exposed to a stranger person. It showed the levels
and types of attachment as the child was left alone with the stranger and consequently later

Symbols In Heart Of Darkness
Africa s Darkness Darkness refers to the evil acts of another person. These evil acts can symbolize
darkness in any situation, such as violence, discrimination, and other cruel acts that people
experience daily. Acts of darkness could cause harm to an individual physically or emotionally. In
the novel, Heart of Darknessby Joseph Conrad, the word darkness is used to symbolize many
events that happened in the continent of Africa. Three events that symbolize the word darkness
are the Europeans cruel behaviors, Kurtz s selfishness, and Marlow s sexist statements. One event
in the novel that displayed darkness was when the Europeans were cruel to the Africans. The main
character, Marlow, went on a voyage to the Congo River. When Marlow arrived in Africa, he
recognized that the Africans were being treated in an evil manner. In the novel, Marlow states,
They were dying slowly it was very clear. They were not enemies, they were not criminals, they
were nothing earthly now nothing but black shadows of disease and starvation, lying confusedly in
the greenish gloom (Conrad, 82). This displayed that the Africans were in harsh conditions that...

Kurtz or the Europeans, but it is also displayed in the main character, Marlow. Marlow would
occasionally speak sexist statements to himself, which shows that Marlow has a heart of
darkness. In the novel, Marlow states, It s queer how out of touch with truth women are. They
live in a world of their own, and there has never been anything like it, and never can be. It is too
beautiful altogether, and if they were to set it up it would go to pieces before the first sunset
(Conrad, 76). This statement from Marlow signifies that he is an individual who thinks that women
cannot do anything on this earth except make it worse. This definitely shows that Marlow has a
heart of darkness. Therefore, darkness is used throughout the novel because of Marlow s sexist

The Issue Of Premarital Sex
Cohabitation was once considered deviant and unlawful by society, as it was considered to be a
proclamation of premarital sex. (Gault Sherman Draper, 2012). As attitudes toward cohabitation
have become progressively acceptable, it has become increasingly prevalent in today s culture.
(Gault Sherman Draper, 2012). As a result, there has been a decline in the number of couples that
are choosing marriage. Research indicates the likelihood of divorce is increased when a couple
lives together prior to marriage, increasing 166% if the wife had premarital sex and cohabited
with another man before her husband. (Alvare, 2004). There is evidence that despite the rise in
numbers of couples cohabiting, Americans desire more. [T]hey do not merely aspire to
parenthood; they do not aspire to a brief or even life long cohabiting relationship. They aspire to
marriage, and the intrinsic permanence of marriage...Pursuing marital happiness today, then, seems
to require a greater unification in law, policy, and culture of messages about sex and marriage
(Alvare, 2004).
Churches and religious organizations often approach the topic of cohabitation from a judgmental
standpoint, and immediately condemn the behavior. Cohabiting couples who reach out to the
church for guidance or seek premarital counseling need healing and restoration, not condemnation.
Consideration needs to be given to the reasons for cohabiting in order to determine the most
effective approach. Marriage Preparation and

Developing Competitive Advantage Advantages And Disadvantages
F.Developing Competitive Advantages (refer to Exhibit 4.7) As previously stated, it is difficult to
pinpoint a competitive advantage due to of the hyper competitive environment. Our strengths of the
program are matched or exceeded by competitors. The areas we could potentially capitalize on are
our academic rigor, our passionate staff in Southeast Online and the nursing department who
provide excellent customer service, and the prevalence of nursing courses being taught by tenure
track faculty. However, we aren t the only program that has passionate staff, that teaches using
tenured faculty, and are academically rigorous. The only way to provide leverage is if we are able
to be the best in one of these area s compared to our top regional competitors due to of the
preference to attend within 100 miles from home. With all of our weaknesses and strengths
identified, and considering that our students ranked helpfulness of staff higher than quality of the
program, customer intimacy is our best chance of differentiating ourselves. There are multiple
weaknesses that can be converted into strengths, however the ability to do that will take a
substantial amount of time due to the culture. For example, time from application to enrollment.
When a student applies to the university, we can t accept them until we have received all of their
transcripts. Students are admitted and sent a notification to wait until the Registrar s Office

Close Reading Of Mcteague
Humans are meant to empathize with one another, it is in the nature of people and it inherent to
the human psyche. Though, people attempt to cover up their empathy and show disinterest
towards others, the kind nature to feel bad for those lesser than ourselves tends to shine though.
The narrator in the passage, seemingly uninterested in McTeague s life, is actually wuite the
opposite. Rather than turn a blind eye to the life of McTeague, he actually seems to pity the man.
This is shown through diction, tone, and details presented to the reader in the text. Authors hand
select words that match their ideas and their goals for their writing, and this piece is no
different. The narrator uses words that hail a negative connotation. By presenting McTeague as
Sluggish the reader is lead to believe that he is lazy or inept. The narrator seems to hold an air of
contempt and pity for McTeague, believing him to be unintelligent and slow minded. The narrator
also implies that he is poor by inferring that McTeague s dreams were, well beyond his means (61

destitute, they still believe him to be hopeful and seemingly... Show more content on

The author seems to be disenchanted with McTeague s life, rather deciding to sign on with a
mild interest, only to show his own pity for McTeague. The rambling description of McTeague s
room is done to show the absolute averageness of the parlor that homes the dentist. The tone
created from this is almost condescending but not quite there yet. Instead, the narrator simply
drones on about the simple treasures that McTeague holds dear to him. Hwoever, as the narrator
does this, it seems as if the narrator is beginning to pity him as each item is giving a description
of why he needs it, and the reason is often to please other people. The narrator is seen to pity
McTeague, and this is done through the tone set for the

Effects Of Autism On Children With Autism Spectrum Diseases
Autism Spectrum disorder is described as a disorder that will disable people for communication and
social interaction. They will have repetitive behaviors and also will have difficultly learning,
reacting to things or paying attention. If there is an early intervention of this disorder treatment can
be manageable. Scientist believe that genetic is the major cause of autismand there is a high chance
of children to get autism if their sibling is already suffering from autism. Autism was discovered
around 60 years ago and since then it is considered as fascinating, puzzling and massively

but there is no cure. Adams, N. , Jarrold, C. (2012), researched on how resistance to distract or
inhibition can reveal impairments in children with Autism spectrum Diseases ASDs. They came in
the conclusion that that autism is specific deficit, which can even increase perceptual capacity in
autism. The history of autism is not that old, but it is affecting many children life. According to the
research done by Goin Kochel, R. , Abbacchi, A. , Constantino, J. , Consortium, A. (2007) did
interesting research on different phenotypes of autism. They did the study using two distinct

U.s. Dollar, China s Central Bank
In order to contend with the US Dollar, China s central bank has devalued the Yuan nearly 2% in
August 2015.This bank policy was seemed to be a wave to the Chinese market, even the economic
market all around the world, which brought a series of fluctuation and impact to the economy. Why
china took this monetary action to face with the problem from the US dollar (What are the

So it is easy to conclude that china s economic markets are sluggish and weak, for these reasons,
China should adopt this monetary strategy to deal with these series of problems, and keeping the
healthy and steady growth in economic markets. On the other hand, China wanted to increase the
monetary (Yuan) liquidity, further, wanted Yuan to become international reserve currency. Broadly
speaking, China hoped to consolidate its central position in the global economic markets. In
conclusion, pulling the healthy and steady growth internally and pushing Chinese monetary (Yuan)
circulate in the international economic market, externally are the two key factors drove China to
devalue Yuan.
In the short term, this depreciation action will bring varying degree of positive and negative
impact in China and Global world. In the aspect of positive impact, Chinese aggregate demand will
go up considerably in the short run.
Aggregate demand is the total level of spending in the economy and consists of four elements:
consumer spending (C), private investment (I), government expenditure on goods and services (G)
and expenditure on exports (X) less expenditure on imports (M), Thus AD=C+I+G+X M (Sloman,

Rape is one of the most violent crime known to man. It is also one of the most challenging to
bring to court. Considering that rape and consensual sex can hold the exact same evidence aka
DNA evidence. The book Missoula: Rape and the Justice system in a college town by John
Krakauer, goes so far in depth about the rapes that some women endured while attending the
University of Montana. The way the sexual assaults are described make you feel as if you lived
them yourself. Other crimes such as murder are far more talked than rape. This is because it is
typically a crime the targets women. Men can be raped too. But it doesn t happen near as often.
Therefor, there is less media coverage. All over the globe people have different views on rape.
From people stating that women who dress provocatively deserve rape. To this quote by Jessica
Valenti; Now, should we treat women as independent agents, responsible for themselves? Of
course. But being responsible has nothing to do with being raped. Women don t get raped because
they were drinking or took drugs. Women do not get raped because they weren t careful enough.
Women get raped because someone raped them (p.1). The target of this book is about the rapes
committed by the UM football team and/or UM students and how the justice system failed to

Country Music Project Analysis
Anyone who has ever put on so much as small birthday party understands how much planning even
the smallest get together can be. Think back to a time that you planned something. There were
questioned that had to be answered; How many people are coming, will there be food, if so what
kind? Now imagine planning a partyfor 7,000 people, throw alcohol in the mix, and the affect that
country music has on people and you got yourself a music festival. Trying to plan everything out
all by myself, which was essentially what I was planning on doing when I started my project,

Calpurnia And Caesar s Relationship
In analyzing the relationship between Brutus s and Caesar s relationships with their wives, one can
tell how they become influenced yet not completely swayed to their wives claim. This further
proves and enhances the ability to identify each of the character s personalities. For instance, this
dialogue between Calpurnia and Caesar reveal their personalities:
CALPHURNIA. Alas, my lord, your confidence is getting the better of your wisdom. Don t go out
today. Say that it s my fear that keeps you inside and not your own. We ll send Mark Antonyto the
senate house, and he ll say that you re sick today. (she kneels) Let me, on my knees, win you over
to this plan.

However, when Calpurnia beseeched Caesar on her knees, he changed his mind quickly. When
Calpurnia referred to Caesar s confidence, it can be interpreted as his ego and pride getting the
better of his wisdom. Caesar s pride may also rise from having a higher position to his wife as a
man because the Romans lived in a patriarchal lifestyle. Calpurnia knew this and rather than
appealing to his wisdom, she appealed to his ego and pride as a man and a someone of power.
However, with outstanding contrast, the relationship between Brutus and Portia hold a significant
difference between that of Caesar s relationship with his wife. For example, in this dialogue, one
can see the distinction between the two

A Chapel By William Blake Analysis Essay
Blake starts the poem with an almost idyllic or nostalgic atmosphere; he uses rhyme s that
contains a very long E sound, which forces the reader to smile for proper pronunciation. The
speaker is visiting the garden of his youth, which he realizes has been occupied by briars and
tombstones; symbolizing death. The once open, green piece of land where he used to play, has
been covered, and on it, a chapel has been erected in the middle of its space. The narrator s
dismay cannot be fully recognized as the poem starts; the building of the chapel does not imply
any specific disapproval, especially because the line, And saw what I never had seen, may be
taken positively at first read. However, A Chapel was built in the midst Where I used to play on
the green, hints at a more despondent feeling; the narrator is realizing that the field has been
robbed of its innocence, which effectively begins to present the chapel as evil. The Chapel, in
comparison to the garden, is completely unnatural; its shape is triangular and squarish, making it
almost forced and artificial in its place on the natural field. In this way, Blake successfully conveys
his antipathy towards the church and organized religion; he is presenting its position in the garden
as one of complete irregularity, sadness, and gloom. Thinking of the garden of lovein the biblical
sense, it very much represents the Garden of Eden; where Adam and Eveonce lived in innocence,
without the guilt of love. Thinking of Blake s

Arranged Marriage Essay
Arranged marriage is a bad decision
Marriage is defined as legal or religious union of two person in which they live together. There
are different kind of marriage but mostly arrange marriage and love marriage is talked. In many
cultures, marriages are arranged by the parents, sometimes with the couple having little or no say.
Such arranged marriages are often found within societies with a high degree of hierarchy and
awareness of social rank (BOOK). People often say arranged marriage are highly traditional and
renowned, protect values and so on but what about in the life of bride and groom? Will they be
happy protecting values and culture? Thus, Arranged marriage is a bad decision because they lack a
freedom to choose and interference from extended family, lack of trust, understanding and love is
not a first priority, and social problem.
Arranged marriage takes place in different part of the world. A recent research conducted by a post
graduate student of Amity University, New Delhi has brought to light the finding that arranged
marriages in India originated during the Vedic period of Indian history (Chettri). It is the period (c.
1500 c.500 B.C.E) during which the Vedas, the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism were composed.
Similarly, Helena Minchew, program officer in International Women s Health Coalition wrote in
her article, The Human Rights Council in Geneva on 2nd July 2015 adopted its first substantive

A Replication of the Stroop Effect
A Replication of the Stroop Effect

Abstract
The Stroop (1935) effect is the inability to ignore a color word when the task is to report the ink
color of that word (i.e., to say green to the word RED in green ink). The present study investigated
whether object based processing contributes to the Stroop effect. According to this view, observers
are unable to ignore irrelevant features of an attended object (Kahneman Henik, 1981). In three
experiments, participants had to name the color of one of two superimposed rectangles and to ignore
words that appeared in the relevant object, in the irrelevant object, or in the background. The words
were congruent, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An interesting challenge arises when a task such as color naming is identified as both controlled
and automatic, by varying the other task involved. Color naming is identified as a controlled
process when the other task is word reading, but as an automatic process when the other task is
shape naming. Cohen, Dunbar and McClelland (1990) proposed an alternative explanation of the
Stroop effect, which does not distinguish between automatic and controlled processing. Instead,
they proposed that automaticity is a range, and that Stroop interference depends on the relative
degree of learning the particular tasks, not on processing speed.
Attention is thought to be selective focused on one subject at a time. Traditionally, it has been
assumed that automatic processing is involuntary, it does not require attention, and is relatively
fast; whereas, controlled processing is voluntary, does require attention, and is relatively slow. We
can conclude from this that the more we repeat a certain material or tasks the more it becomes
automatic and effortless to us.

The independent variable was represented by three conditions; three word lists printed in a

Most of the students that go through my classroom will become parents one day, and I want them

development is the greatest reward of an education. I want students to look to me as a model of a

we are damaging population numbers and cutting lifespans of these wonderful whales? Another
fact trainers mention is that it is normal for male orcas to have a collapsed dorsal fin this is a

Once a family, always a family unless of course a horrible group of human beings split them up.
The bond is so strong that they travel great journeys as a family unit. According to a BBC article,
a team tagged, and tracked, a pod of killer whales and found they regularly travel all the way from
the Antarctic to Brazil then all the way back. To put this into numbers, on one of their journeys,
they covered a distance of 5,075 miles without stopping: this can be compared to a non stop
journey from Edinburgh to Los Angeles or London to Beijing. A distance that is impossible to
mimic in captivity. The reason for these epic journeys is for food. Killer whales have a varied
diet and are one of the most powerful predators on earth. They hunt a mixture of sea birds, squid,
sea turtles, sharks, rays, fish and marine mammals such as seals. What makes it so interesting is
different ecotypes will eat different foods dependent on their native habitat and this is when we
have to consider what captive whales are being fed. The common diet of dead frozen fish is not
specific to every type killer whale. I am convinced that this is not a healthy diet for a whale and
only makes captive life even worse as their wellbeing is in constant

A Saintlike Power In Saint Marie By Louise Erdrich
A Saintlike Power
There are different kinds of power. There is, of course, the power over another person. A power
in superiority, in dominance that makes people afraid. There s power in acceptance too. Any
person who has been welcomed by their peers has more power than one that has not. In my own
life, I struggle with power, and what kind of power I should want. My need for power likely
stems from a fundamental desire to fit in. Some days the power I crave is simply in acceptance.
Acceptance from peers, friends, or family. On other, less agreeable days, the power I desire is in
superiority, dominance, the power to make people listen to what you have to say. In the short story
Saint Marie by Louise Erdrich, Marie, like me, seeks power. However, the power she craves is in
relation to God and the convent she has been raised to look up to. At the convent, Marie
struggles between wanting acceptance from the Sisters and desiring superiority over them,
especially Leopolda. The first, acceptance, Marie mentions before joining the convent: I was
going up there to pray as good as they could (1). Marie strives to be as good: as holy as the
Sisters. Once she joins the convent, she hopes to be accepted by them. Superiority, the second
kind of power, she uses as a threat to Leopolda. Marie threatened that she would get to heaven
first, and when Leopolda arrived, she would shut the gate (5). Here, she strives for superiority over
Leopolda by blocking her out of heaven rather than

Characteristics Of A Successful Time Period During Late...
The traits that define a successful time period in late Imperial China are necessary expansion,
unifying the people, and the construction of an effective and incorrupt political structure. The
effects of meeting these criteria is sustained influence in following Chinese time periods both short
term and long term, as other rulers will benefit from what their predecessors have accomplished, or
try to imitate successful policies. As a team, the Kangxi emperorand his successor, the Yongzheng
emperor, were able to achieve all of the goals for a prosperous period in Chinese history. Although
it was a relatively short period, the Kangxi and Yongzheng emperor s times on the Qing throne were
extremely complementary, and ultimately came together to form the most successful time period in
late Imperial China.
The Kangxi emperor s greatest contributions to the Qing Dynasty were his impressive military
forces used to expand his lands and keep peace within them, and his ability to establish a
foundation for order in those lands. The Kangxi emperor was on the throne for sixty one years, and
brought expansion and a stable government to the Manchu Qing dynasty by integrating Manchu and
Chinese interests and making traditional Chinese institutions function again. The Kangxi emperor s
long reign...is the crucial period during which Manchu rule took form...With vigor and insight he

Essay on Norwegian Business Culture
Norwegian Business Culture
In contrast to the indirect, roundabout language common in much of Asia, Latin America and the
Middle East, Norwegians typically use direct straightforward language. They tend to be blunt and
honest about their business ideas and feelings. However, most Norwegians are somewhat less direct
than Danes and Germans. For instance, when not really interested in a particular deal, they may be
reluctant to say so bluntly. In this they are similar to many British negotiators.
Reserve
Although a warm and friendly people, most Norwegians have a reserved communication style,
compared to Latin Europeans, Latin Americans, Arabs, and North Americans. Whereas people from
more expressive cultures employ numerous vigorous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Touch Behavior
There is little touching in business situations except for the handshake. Avoid arm grabbing and
backslapping. Visitors from expressive, high contact cultures should not misinterpret Norwegian
reserve as coldness or arrogance.
Eye Contact
Like many Northern Europeans and North Americans, Norwegians normally employ moderate gaze
behavior, ie alternately looking their counterparts in the eye and then looking away. This may
confuse Arabs and Latins, who are accustomed to strong, steady eye contact. On the other hand,
Norwegian gaze behavior may confuse many Asians. Negotiators from these cultures are used to
soft, indirect eye contact, and equate the Scandinavian gaze with staring, which is regarded as rude,
hostile behavior.
Making Appointments
Visitors should have confirmed appointments. Although references and introductions are useful
anywhere in the world, you can also contact Norwegian companies directly by telephone, fax or
mail to make an appointment. Intermediaries are much less important than in Asia, Latin America
and the Middle East.
Terms of Address
Although Norwegians usually address each other rather informally and use first names. However,
when introduced for the first time, address your counterpart by Mr or Ms and their surname Ms
Jensen. Wait for your local counterpart to suggest switching to first names. Male visitors should

The Importance Of Public Shaming
In Puritan times, shaming stayed within the boundaries of the town, but today the borders have
expanded to the entire world. Over time public shaming has changed for the worse; it used to be
just the people in the town shaming and the person feeling badly about themselves, but now the
entire world can know about it, and it leads to suicide. The three sources are The Scarlet
Letter (Nathaniel Hawthorne), The Price of Shame (Monica Lewinsky), and Is the Internet a
Mob without Consequences (Nick Bolton). Public shaming can affect a person s life terribly
through social, professional, and personal life.
First off public shaming negatively affects a person s life socially. In The Scarlet Lettereverybody
now sees Hester differently and judges her because she committed adultery. This person has
brought shame upon us all, and ought to die. Is there no law for it (Hawthorne 36).
This quote shows the severity of how they are judging her because they are saying she should die.
In The Price of Shame Monica Lewinsky talked about how her public shaming was the first online
shaming, and everyone now knows what she did, which was fall in love with the
President. Lewinsky states I was seen by many but known by few and The public humiliation was
excruciating, life was almost unbearable those two quotes show how her shaming went global and
she felt so bad about herself that she almost killed herself. In Is the Internet a Mob without
Consequences Bolton talks about how Justine

Now, when the system changed, the government had to establish absolute new for the whole
country way for living. Capitalistic system states are based on the free enterprise, private
property, markets, and individual choice. In 1991, the Russian language did not even have a
word or term that stressed the private property in land. Property belonged to all, and therefore to
no one. After the Bolshevik revolution a forceful collectivization of the land property was
carried out. This way a vital link between the peasantry who were the main workforce in the
country and their object of work the land, their prime source of income and goods, was broken.
The communist government vigorously was compelling the peasants to work tirelessly, for almost
no profit, the salaries were the lowest in the country, so the pensions. As a result the alienation of
the citizen toward the land and the property as a whole was one of the main reasons for the fall of
the communism. Huge flow of people from the countryside to the cities was taking place. As a
result at the end of communist regime the base for restoration of the capitalistic economy in the

Organizational Change Issues
The acquisition and post acquisition period for Mt. Mercy Hospital/Sister Mary Theresa s purchase
of Abbott Hospital experienced several organizational change issues. Within Dr. Belasen s corporate
communications model CVFCC, several quadrants became compromised. During the acquisition
period, conflict arose within the realm of Investor Relations and Government Relations. Conflict
continued to arise after the acquisition specifically within the quadrant of Employee Relations.

Employee Relations: As could have been projected by the public s negative perception, Sister Mary
Theresa s style of leadership was not well received by many employees at Abbott Hospital. Despite
warnings from Dr. John Coletti (Abbott administrator under MEDICO), Sister Mary Theresa
implanted her authoritative managerial style into the new satellite hospital. First, she requested all
Abbott staff members to be interviewed by Mt. Mercy personnel. They were given a three month
probationary period (at the end of which permanent appointment could be discussed). Also, both
staffs were informed they could be transferred between hospitals at administrative discretion. Sister
Mary Theresa stuck to her bureaucratic plan causing Dr. John Coletti to resign.
The early results: Revenues from Abbott hospital ran about 15 20 percent below projected levels.
Revenues from surgery/patient care days declined 62 percent. Employee morale was down and the
many regional doctors were beginning to send patients in another direction for hospital care.

Clarity Project Paper
The Auditing Standards Board has launched the Clarity Project (Lindberg Seifert, 2011) which is
an effort to make the U.S. Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (U.S. GAAS) easier to
comprehend in the eyes of non public businesses. The Clarity Project will result in the first
complete redrafting and recodification of U.S. GAAS since 1972 (Morris Thomas, 2011, para. 2).
Four of the most significant changes are: changing the format of the standards so they are more
consistent and readable, the wording in the auditor s report, group auditstandards, and the
authoritative status on the 10 generally accepted auditingstandards (Morris Thomas, 2011). The
Clarity Project also includes the process of integrating the U.S. GAAS with International Standards
on Auditing (ISA).
There are five key topics for comparison between ISA and U.S. Auditing Standards. The U.S.
Auditing Standards is broken up between two groups: Auditing Standards Boards (ASB) and
Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). ASB is the authoritative group for non
public companies. PCAOB is the authoritative group for public companies. PCAOB was formed
from the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) (Lindberg Seifert, 2011). The five key topics to
compare ISA and US GAAS are: documentation of audit procedures, going concern considerations,
internal control over financial reporting, risk assessment, and use of another auditor. Let s discuss
each of them below.

Jonathan Vs Fletch Research Paper
Leaders don t create followers, they create more leaders (Leadership vs. Management: What s
the Difference?). Jonathan was a prime example of this quality. He never forced his fellow
seagulls to learn; Jonathan let them come to him. He did this so that the other gulls would be
willing to accept his teachings on their own. Fletch was the first to come to Jonathan Livingston,
and because of Jon s teachings, was able to take over the new flock that Jon started. Traits such as
these are what make you a good leader. I believe that there are many major qualities that can make
a leader great. These two that I will explain are the same traits that reside within Jonathan.
A leader must be honest. Without honesty, there is no trust. Without trust, no one will believe your
ideas, and if people don t believe in your ideas then they won t support you. According to Inc.com,

lead by example. If a leader shows that they are committed to their work, then their followers
will do the same. CNN.com says that a good leader must, Live, beathe, eat and sleep your

The Third Man By Carol Reed
The Third Man by Carol Reed. I chose to see this movie not because it was considered one of the
greatest film noir at all times but simply because it was starring Orson Welles. Orson was a
persona and I thought it would be great to see him again. Certainly the role he played as dirty
Harry with brilliant monologues and sharp humor was simply fabulous. At first glance the
movie made me think that I am watching a predictable criminal story. The opening shoot of the
close up of that unique instrument was brilliant. Scenes were played in few sets that seemed to
repeat every now and then. Music choice was closer to a happy comedy than building a tension.
Such as shiny cobblestone street at night, that picture was used quiet few times during the movie.
One of the best moments was when we could see the shadow on the wall that was slowly making
its way towards the audience. Another moment that made me smile was a shoot of the cat that
magically change its whole appearance within seconds transforming itself into a totally new cat. I
wondered what happened with can number one? Most likely fury little creature quit his/hers
acting career and left into deep Vienna. The man with balloons was another remarkable character
that managed to sale his goods to a police officer during intense police action. Harry s first

Uk Referendum Essay
The results of the 2016 UK referendum was a surprise to the rest of the world, but there are
definitely factors that made this a predictable result. At first glance, one might assume that
economics were the main contributing factor to the people s discontent of membership in the EU.
But as I researched, I found that politics in the UK and the EU had a far greater impact on the
feelings of Brits. However, some important economic factors still exist. The European Unions
economy, despite being one of the largest in the world; very comparable to the size of the
economy of the United States, does not provide a great benefit to the UK. Both the economies of
the UK and of the EU are less than ideal for the respective nations, but... Show more content on

As Germany is, after the UK and possibly France, the most influential nation in the EU, its interests
will be well represented and therefore the UK does not need to worry about their ease of trade with
mainland Europe being hindered. Economically, the United Kingdom has nothing to lose, and
everything to gain, by forfeiting their membership in the EU. As was mentioned earlier, as
important as economics are to understanding this situation, their importance is nowhere near as
fundamental to the outcome of the referendum as are the effects of modern European politics. The
modern world has recently seen a sharp rise of populism. The citizens of today s first world nations
do not trust their government and its politicians. Populism is The support for the concerns of
ordinary people [10]. People distrust mainstream politicians that have history in federal government.
A wonderful example of this new political tendency, other than the positive vote for brexit, is the
election of Donald Trump as president of the United States of America. Midway through the
election season a popular US news source predicted that Trump had less than a 5% chance of
winning the election[11]. However, this source did not take into account the negative feelings of
the American voting public toward mainstream politicians, such as Trump s opponent Hillary
Clinton. Analysts believe that the same phenomenon of populism that elected Trump can also

Prayer For Ethical, Legal And Social Reasons
In today s public school system, approximately eight out of every ten schools do not allow any
praying whatsoever. Since banning prayer in school, the disciplining of children has greatly
diminished. Praying is a religious activity, but it can also become a way for citizens to come
together in a peaceful manner. At this time in America s life, there are more cases going to the
Supreme Court about religious happenings in school than ever before. The U.S. should allow prayer
in schools for ethical, legal and social reasons. Praying in school can make lasting impressions.
It can leave a mark on someone whether psychological or emotional. Emotionally, it could
relieve a student of anxiety or stress. It is even known to calm one s fears. Praying gives the
human spirit a psychological makeover. It can give us a more positive outlook about the world
in which we live, and also about our own lives. Studies have been conducted on students who
pray in school and students who do not. The studies have shown that the people who pray appear
happier and healthier, compared to those who choose not to pray. If prayer in schools is renewed,
people in society possess a greater chance of happiness versus society s current level of peace.
Moral Reasons
Ethical reasons exist for prayer in school. People in society develop good morals as a young child,
and they carry out those morals while growing up. When prayer is present, it is said that children

Secondly, there are many variations in the kind of practices associated with food. These practices
can be traced down to their religious beliefs or from their cultural heritage. Again, given the
diversity of cultural backgrounds of the Indians in Singapore, it is expected that there will be a
plethora of practices that people follow. During the field trip to the Burhani mosque, I noticed how
there is the practice of eating salt before and after food. Further research reveals that Muslims

As such, it is a very common sight among the Hindus who traditionally follow the custom of
sprinkling water on the food before eating their meal and it is believed to be an act of
purification. Cultural belief also affects the way people eat. For instance, among all the Indians,
cutlery is not used to eat food. They think that food is meant to be a whole sensory experience,
so an eating habit in the traditional Indian culture is to consume Indian foods such as curry, rice
and naan bread by picking it up using the hands. Bread is often used to scoop up the curry sauce
and rice, and it is dipped into traditional soups such as daal, a lentil based soup. Indian people are
supposed to eat with their right hands, because eating with the left hand is thought to be unclean.
While it is still common to find Singaporean Indians eating with hands, it is more likely they will
do so in the comfort of their own homes or in restaurants where they can wash their hands before
and afterward. Many Indians now do not eat with hands and use cutlery instead in public settings
such as the food court or school canteens because they may find it inconvenient and unhygienic to

Oral History By Lee Smith And The Poem, Fishing Among The...
As a child matures, the word lesson can hold two different connotations. One meaning denotes a
traditional portion of a school day dedicated to a specific subject, such as a biology lesson. This
lesson is based on facts that are generally gleaned from a textbook or transmitted by a teacher who
has been certified in some way. Another type of lesson is that which helps the recipient either live
a life of fuller satisfaction or gain some practical knowledgethat can help others, either physically
or emotionally. This type of lesson can be passed along by anyone, regardless of age or training.
However, quite often, one associates this type of knowledge with those who have lived long
enough to absorb such life lessons. The novel, Oral History by Lee Smith and the poem, Fishing
Among the Learned by Nikky Finney take two distinct and separate forms, but each work is
separated into individual sections and focuses on an elderly female character who fulfills the role
of an all knowing sage, relying on nature and rituals to teach younger generations the importance of
a type of knowledge that cannot be learned in an academic setting.
Each of these written texts is broken into distinct sections that represent either a certain type of
knowledge or a specific character relying knowledge. Finishing Among the Learned is comprised of
three sections. The first references the speaker s childhood and introduces the grandmother who
fulfills the role of teacher in the poem. Finney writes

Foss v. Harbottle
In September 1835, Victoria Park Company was set up to establish a residential area to the east
of Wilmslow Road, an estate of substantial houses in spacious grounds. The prosperous business
and professional families could live there. Richard Foss and Edward Starkie were two minority
shareholders, and claimed that the property of the company had been misapplied and various
mortgages were given improperly over the company s property. During the general meeting, they
said that no action should be taken against them. At last, the Court dismissed and rejected the
two shareholders claim, and held that a breach of duty by the directors of the company was a
wrong done to the company for which it alone could sue. The first reason is because of the
proper plaintiff rule is that a wrong done to the company may be vindicated by the company alone
where the corporation has separate legal entity. The second reason is the majority rule principle , it

The Bystander Effect In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
The bystander effect, is a social psychological phenomenon that refers to cases in which individuals
do not offer any means of help to a victim when other people are present (Weiten). Such reactions
usually occur when individuals do not want to risk getting involved in the situation. In Chronicles

Cloud Computing And The Cloud Essay
INTRODUCTION The definition of the Cloud Computing is broad enough to cover everything
such as web search and photo sharing to social networking etc. Perhaps the key point is simply
that cloud computing resources should be accessible by the customers/end users anytime,
anywhere, and from any platform over internet on pay for use basis. Broadly, the cloud can be
described as on demand computing, fix anyone with a network connection. Access to applications
and data anywhere, anytime from any device is the potential outcome. The cloud refers to wide
area networks, generally the intent from which remote computing resources are shared as shown
in the Fig 1.1. The cloud reduces costs and complexity and provides scalability. The biggest
advantage that the cloud brings is to reduce costs and improve efficiency. An institution can rely
on the pay as you go characteristic of the three pillars of cloud: PaaS and Saas. Ease of
maintenance increase efficiency as the pain of maintaining the software is now shifted to the cloud
service provider. Cloud computing customers do not need to own the physical infrastructure; rather
they use the resources from a third party provider on rental basis. This helps them to avoid huge
effort for the setup of the infrastructure. The End user consumes the resources as a service and pay
only for resources that they consume. Most cloud computing infrastructure consists of

Alison Wright s Influence On War
In this essay I am going to focus on how Alison Wright has photographed women affected by war
and conflict and how she has approached, created the story and how she has achieved this.
Wright is known internationally, from California, based in New York, a documentary
photographer, author and public speaker who works for National Geographic and travels the
world for the purpose of documenting endangered cultures, exile countries, people in poverty,
and issues that concern the human condition. After she survived an accident in 2002 in a Jungle
remote road in Laos where a bus she was on at the time was hit by a truck, Wright featured in
Outside magazine , Yoga Journal and National Geographic Adventure which showed her story of
survival. Alison set up Faces of Hope Fund what helps provide medical care and education for
children in the world who are in crisis or poverty.
Wright was influenced by work of photographers such as Lewis Hine, Eugene Smith, Dorothea
Lange, Sebastio Salgado and Henri Cartier Bresson. However, Wright s own documentary style

Artist Of Dignity
At first it may be easy to side with Mencken and assume that any dignified artist cannot hold the
same views as his or her country. This is an understandable belief due to the fact that almost
everyone finds something unsettling or wrong with their country. Contrary to the idea that only
artists who rebel are artist of dignity, a countless number of dignified artist have been those who
have supported their country and society by displaying an abundance of nationalism and pride in
their works. Although some artists fall into Mencken s category of rebellion, supporting his claim,
there is and has been a majority of artists who have proven his claim faulty. Being an artist of

Not only paintings, but many other forms of art are used to support one s country. Artists such as
Francis Scott Key, who is far from a painter, also depicted nationalistic pride through his work. He
was a lawyer and poet who wrote the lyrics to the United States national anthem. This song stands
as a U.S. musical symbol. Photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt is known for capturing one of
America s most iconic images of a sailor kissing a nurse on V J Day in Times Square.
Eisenstaedt s photo displays part of what the people of a nation at war experience when war is
over. The energy and passion seen in the photograph embodies the emotion that filled the United
States the day that the Japanese surrendered. One more artist who contradicts Mencken s claim is
William Shakespeare. Throughout his life, he remained immensely indebted to Queen Elizabeth
and King James I. Both of these royalties loved drama and theater. His A Midsummer Night s
Dream was written for a special court performance for Queen Elizabeth. These are only a few
individuals who prove Mencken s idea that an artist of any dignity is against his country false.
Mencken s statement might hold some truth, but it is evident that not all artists of dignity have to
share the same hate for their country. Many artists of many different genres can have a passion for

The Effect Of Tyson Foods And Other Meat Factories On...
In this article Nicholas Kristof, is talking about on how Tyson Foods and other meat factories are
harming human health and creating tons of waste around the country. He argues on how
companies do not care about the effect of animal growth since speeding up the process for the
animals can affect human health. He also states that the farmers struggle to make a living. He
states that chicken back then was a luxury dish more expensive than beef. Chicken used to cost
$6.48 a pound and now it is worth $1.57 a pound, cheaper than before, and that is because the
production has increased and so there s much more chicken available. According to Kristof, the cost
went down because scientific breeding reduced the length of time needed to raise a chicken

Antimicrobial Resistance To Antibiotic Resistance
Antibiotic resistance is a type resistance of bacterial infection to the drug prescribed by doctors to
individuals who are infected. Antibodies that are given to a person may not be enough to cure a
bacterial infection due to superbugs which is a pathogen resistant to many different types of
antibodies. Some of the reasons why this exists is due to common misuse of people in antibiotics.
For instance, not finishing up what the doctors prescribe after feeling better and saving for later for
future use is not a good practice. This actually leaves the hearty bacteriaas opposed to killing only
the mild or medium ones. I strongly believe that people are responsible why the superbugs exist.
This is is a huge problem in the society because superbugs are resistance to antibiotic. is created and
will no longer be effective. One article that support that hypothesis is, Antimicrobial resistance:
global report on surveillance , which notes that resistance is occurring across many different

The issue of anti microbial resistance can be reduced just by coordinated endeavors of all
individuals from society for guaranteeing the effectiveness of antibiotics. If everyone is educated
and stop using prescription antibiotics for common cold, headache, or other viruses lessen people
who misuses such antibiotics. Also, hospitals should be cautious in prescribing antibiotics if
unnecessary. For instance, at Kaiser Hospital where I take my children, doctors advise that
common cold or flu viruses cannot be cured by antibiotics unless it is bacterial

Share Repurchases and the Protection of
Share repurchases and the protection of shareholders* KATHLEEN VAN DER LINDE**
1 Introduction
From a creditor s perspective there is not much difference between the payment of a dividend in
respect of a share and a payment for the acquisition or repurchase of that share. However, from the
point of view of the shareholder a dividend is a return on capital while a repurchase is a return of
capital to the vendor shareholder. Share repurchases change the structure of the company s share
capital and consequently also the allocation of rights among shareholders.1 A repurchase combines
a distribution to the selling shareholder with an increase in the relative stakes of the non selling
shareholders.2 Alternatively, a repurchase has also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are coerced into either accepting the offer and giving up a part of their interest in the
company, or rejecting it and facing an increase in the relative size of their shareholding.7 If the
company has more than one class of shareholders a proportionate repurchase in a specific class of
shareholders can still result in unfair treatment among different classes. Even in a company with a
single class of shares, a proportionate offer may have a discriminatory effect if the intention is
that particular shareholders will not accept the offer.8 For example, in a going private transaction
a company s management or controllers could use a share repurchase as a way of increasing their
own shareholding to a level where they are able to freeze out the remaining shareholders by
compulsorily acquiring their shares.9 Similarly, in an empowerment transaction the idea may be to
repurchase shares from shareholders other than black investors so that the resultant stake of the
black investors is increased.10
Shareholder protection can be achieved in different ways. Some jurisdictions prescribe procedural
requirements for repurchases while others rely primarily on substantive principles of fairness.
Takeover regulation often addresses the use of repurchases as takeover mechanisms or as defensive
strategies. I make some reference to shareholder protection in the context of takeovers,

The Roles Of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba In The 19th Century When Sri Shirdi Sai Baba incarnated as Avatar, whole galaxy of saints also had to take birth and function as saints, as spiritualcollaborators or adjuncts of Sri Sai Baba in the divine drama during the later half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.Naturally our curiosity is awakened at this point. Sri Shirdi Sai Baba wasone of the Five Perfect Masters: who then were the other Four Perfect Masters?Aiyer has not given answer to it directly, but in his book Perfect Masters he gaveprofiles of Upasani Baba, Tajuddin Baba, Baba Jan, Narsing Maharaj and Meher Bababesides Sri Shirdi Sai Baba. Harlow observed how important was the bound made by the monkey baby on both surrogate mothers, Babies used the wired with bottle to feed only but the one covered on terry cloth provided the emotional bound and further on the experiments, the terry cloth provided confidence and security. (Harlow, H.F. 1962) Harlow put the bases of understanding the patterns on how behaviour occurs; looking into feeding and tactile affection on producing comfort and security he could define differences on monkeys in their social and cognitive development. Doing that he did categorized some behaviours such secure, insecure, anxious, confidante, but he did not elaborate further on the type or qualities of such forms of attachment, that was exactly what Ainsworth s was focused on. • 5. Symbols In Heart Of Darkness Africa s Darkness Darkness refers to the evil acts of another person. These evil acts can symbolize darkness in any situation, such as violence, discrimination, and other cruel acts that people experience daily. Acts of darkness could cause harm to an individual physically or emotionally. In the novel, Heart of Darknessby Joseph Conrad, the word darkness is used to symbolize many events that happened in the continent of Africa. Three events that symbolize the word darkness are the Europeans cruel behaviors, Kurtz s selfishness, and Marlow s sexist statements. One event in the novel that displayed darkness was when the Europeans were cruel to the Africans. The main character, Marlow, went on a voyage to the Congo River. When Marlow arrived in Africa, he recognized that the Africans were being treated in an evil manner. In the novel, Marlow states, They were dying slowly it was very clear. They were not enemies, they were not criminals, they were nothing earthly now nothing but black shadows of disease and starvation, lying confusedly in the greenish gloom (Conrad, 82). It is too beautiful altogether, and if they were to set it up it would go to pieces before the first sunset (Conrad, 76). • 6. The Issue Of Premarital Sex Cohabitation was once considered deviant and unlawful by society, as it was considered to be a proclamation of premarital sex. (Gault Sherman Draper, 2012). As attitudes toward cohabitation have become progressively acceptable, it has become increasingly prevalent in today s culture. (Gault Sherman Draper, 2012). As a result, there has been a decline in the number of couples that are choosing marriage. Research indicates the likelihood of divorce is increased when a couple lives together prior to marriage, increasing 166% if the wife had premarital sex and cohabited with another man before her husband. (Alvare, 2004). There is evidence that despite the rise in numbers of couples cohabiting, Americans desire more. [T]hey do not merely aspire to parenthood; they do not aspire to a brief or even life long cohabiting relationship. They aspire to marriage, and the intrinsic permanence of marriage...Pursuing marital happiness today, then, seems to require a greater unification in law, policy, and culture of messages about sex and marriage (Alvare, 2004). Churches and religious organizations often approach the topic of cohabitation from a judgmental standpoint, and immediately condemn the behavior. Cohabiting couples who reach out to the church for guidance or seek premarital counseling need healing and restoration, not condemnation. Consideration needs to be given to the reasons for cohabiting in order to determine the most effective approach. Marriage Preparation and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. A Chapel By William Blake Analysis Essay Blake starts the poem with an almost idyllic or nostalgic atmosphere; he uses rhyme s that contains a very long E sound, which forces the reader to smile for proper pronunciation. The speaker is visiting the garden of his youth, which he realizes has been occupied by briars and tombstones; symbolizing death. The once open, green piece of land where he used to play, has been covered, and on it, a chapel has been erected in the middle of its space. The narrator s dismay cannot be fully recognized as the poem starts; the building of the chapel does not imply any specific disapproval, especially because the line, And saw what I never had seen, may be taken positively at first read. However, A Chapel was built in the midst Where I used to play on the green, hints at a more despondent feeling; the narrator is realizing that the field has been robbed of its innocence, which effectively begins to present the chapel as evil. The Chapel, in comparison to the garden, is completely unnatural; its shape is triangular and squarish, making it almost forced and artificial in its place on the natural field. In this way, Blake successfully conveys his antipathy towards the church and organized religion; he is presenting its position in the garden as one of complete irregularity, sadness, and gloom. Thinking of the garden of lovein the biblical sense, it very much represents the Garden of Eden; where Adam and Eveonce lived in innocence, without the guilt of love. Thinking of Blake s ... A Replication of the Stroop Effect A Replication of the Stroop Effect Kimber Ann Cook Broughton High School 3/26/08 Ms. Greene IB Psychology SL 1, 738 Abstract The Stroop (1935) effect is the inability to ignore a color word when the task is to report the ink color of that word (i.e., to say green to the word RED in green ink). The present study investigated whether object based processing contributes to the Stroop effect. According to this view, observers are unable to ignore irrelevant features of an attended object (Kahneman Henik, 1981). In three experiments, participants had to name the color of one of two superimposed rectangles and to ignore words that appeared in the relevant object, in the irrelevant object, or in the background. An interesting challenge arises when a task such as color naming is identified as both controlled and automatic, by varying the other task involved. Color naming is identified as a controlled process when the other task is word reading, but as an automatic process when the other task is shape naming. Cohen, Dunbar and McClelland (1990) proposed an alternative explanation of the Stroop effect, which does not distinguish between automatic and controlled processing. Instead, they proposed that automaticity is a range, and that Stroop interference depends on the relative degree of learning the particular tasks, not on processing speed. Attention is thought to be selective focused on one subject at a time. Traditionally, it has been assumed that automatic processing is involuntary, it does not require attention, and is relatively fast; whereas, controlled processing is voluntary, does require attention, and is relatively slow. We can conclude from this that the more we repeat a certain material or tasks the more it becomes automatic and effortless to us. Methods Design The independent variable was represented by three conditions; three word lists printed in a variety of color inks. Two of the lists consisted of word colors; one in black ink and the other in incongruent colors. The third list consisted of square blocks in contrasting colors. A power in superiority, in dominance that makes people afraid. There s power in acceptance too. Any person who has been welcomed by their peers has more power than one that has not. In my own life, I struggle with power, and what kind of power I should want. My need for power likely stems from a fundamental desire to fit in. Some days the power I crave is simply in acceptance. Acceptance from peers, friends, or family. On other, less agreeable days, the power I desire is in superiority, dominance, the power to make people listen to what you have to say. In the short story Saint Marie by Louise Erdrich, Marie, like me, seeks power. However, the power she craves is in relation to God and the convent she has been raised to look up to. At the convent, Marie struggles between wanting acceptance from the Sisters and desiring superiority over them, especially Leopolda. The first, acceptance, Marie mentions before joining the convent: I was going up there to pray as good as they could (1). Marie strives to be as good: as holy as the Sisters. Once she joins the convent, she hopes to be accepted by them. Superiority, the second kind of power, she uses as a threat to Leopolda. This way a vital link between the peasantry who were the main workforce in the country and their object of work the land, their prime source of income and goods, was broken. The communist government vigorously was compelling the peasants to work tirelessly, for almost no profit, the salaries were the lowest in the country, so the pensions. As a result the alienation of the citizen toward the land and the property as a whole was one of the main reasons for the fall of the communism. Huge flow of people from the countryside to the cities was taking place. As a result at the end of communist regime the base for restoration of the capitalistic economy in the villages the development of small and middle sized farms was very weak. Rebuilding the ties between the people and the land, returning the economic initiative to the individuals and changing the state regulatory system, including the protection of the private property were immense tasks for the new ... Part 2: Employee Relations: As could have been projected by the public s negative perception, Sister Mary Theresa s style of leadership was not well received by many employees at Abbott Hospital. Despite warnings from Dr. John Coletti (Abbott administrator under MEDICO), Sister Mary Theresa implanted her authoritative managerial style into the new satellite hospital. First, she requested all Abbott staff members to be interviewed by Mt. Mercy personnel. They were given a three month probationary period (at the end of which permanent appointment could be discussed). Also, both staffs were informed they could be transferred between hospitals at administrative discretion. Sister Mary Theresa stuck to her bureaucratic plan causing Dr. John Coletti to resign. The early results: Revenues from Abbott hospital ran about 15 20 percent below projected levels. Revenues from surgery/patient care days declined 62 percent. Employee morale was down and the many regional doctors were beginning to send patients in another direction for hospital care. Clarity Project Paper The Auditing Standards Board has launched the Clarity Project (Lindberg Seifert, 2011) which is an effort to make the U.S. Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (U.S. GAAS) easier to comprehend in the eyes of non public businesses. The Clarity Project will result in the first complete redrafting and recodification of U.S. GAAS since 1972 (Morris Thomas, 2011, para. 2). Four of the most significant changes are: changing the format of the standards so they are more consistent and readable, the wording in the auditor s report, group auditstandards, and the authoritative status on the 10 generally accepted auditingstandards (Morris Thomas, 2011). The Clarity Project also includes the process of integrating the U.S. GAAS with International Standards on Auditing (ISA). There are five key topics for comparison between ISA and U.S. Auditing Standards. The U.S. Auditing Standards is broken up between two groups: Auditing Standards Boards (ASB) and Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). ASB is the authoritative group for non public companies. PCAOB is the authoritative group for public companies. PCAOB was formed from the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) (Lindberg Seifert, 2011). I chose to see this movie not because it was considered one of the greatest film noir at all times but simply because it was starring Orson Welles. Orson was a persona and I thought it would be great to see him again. Certainly the role he played as dirty Harry with brilliant monologues and sharp humor was simply fabulous. At first glance the movie made me think that I am watching a predictable criminal story. The opening shoot of the close up of that unique instrument was brilliant. Scenes were played in few sets that seemed to repeat every now and then. Music choice was closer to a happy comedy than building a tension. Such as shiny cobblestone street at night, that picture was used quiet few times during the movie. One of the best moments was when we could see the shadow on the wall that was slowly making its way towards the audience. Another moment that made me smile was a shoot of the cat that magically change its whole appearance within seconds transforming itself into a totally new cat. I wondered what happened with can number one? Most likely fury little creature quit his/hers acting career and left into deep Vienna. At first glance, one might assume that economics were the main contributing factor to the people s discontent of membership in the EU. But as I researched, I found that politics in the UK and the EU had a far greater impact on the feelings of Brits. However, some important economic factors still exist. As Germany is, after the UK and possibly France, the most influential nation in the EU, its interests will be well represented and therefore the UK does not need to worry about their ease of trade with mainland Europe being hindered. Economically, the United Kingdom has nothing to lose, and everything to gain, by forfeiting their membership in the EU. As was mentioned earlier, as important as economics are to understanding this situation, their importance is nowhere near as fundamental to the outcome of the referendum as are the effects of modern European politics. The modern world has recently seen a sharp rise of populism. The citizens of today s first world nations do not trust their government and its politicians. Populism is The support for the concerns of ordinary people [10]. People distrust mainstream politicians that have history in federal government. A wonderful example of this new political tendency, other than the positive vote for brexit, is the election of Donald Trump as president of the United States of America. Midway through the election season a popular US news source predicted that Trump had less than a 5% chance of winning the election[11]. Since banning prayer in school, the disciplining of children has greatly diminished. Praying is a religious activity, but it can also become a way for citizens to come together in a peaceful manner. At this time in America s life, there are more cases going to the Supreme Court about religious happenings in school than ever before. The U.S. should allow prayer in schools for ethical, legal and social reasons. Praying in school can make lasting impressions. It can leave a mark on someone whether psychological or emotional. Emotionally, it could relieve a student of anxiety or stress. It is even known to calm one s fears. Praying gives the human spirit a psychological makeover. It can give us a more positive outlook about the world in which we live, and also about our own lives. Studies have been conducted on students who pray in school and students who do not. The studies have shown that the people who pray appear happier and healthier, compared to those who choose not to pray. If prayer in schools is renewed, people in society possess a greater chance of happiness versus society s current level of peace. Moral Reasons Ethical reasons exist for prayer in school. They think that food is meant to be a whole sensory experience, so an eating habit in the traditional Indian culture is to consume Indian foods such as curry, rice and naan bread by picking it up using the hands. Bread is often used to scoop up the curry sauce and rice, and it is dipped into traditional soups such as daal, a lentil based soup. • 33. Oral History By Lee Smith And The Poem, Fishing Among The... As a child matures, the word lesson can hold two different connotations. One meaning denotes a traditional portion of a school day dedicated to a specific subject, such as a biology lesson. This lesson is based on facts that are generally gleaned from a textbook or transmitted by a teacher who has been certified in some way. Another type of lesson is that which helps the recipient either live a life of fuller satisfaction or gain some practical knowledgethat can help others, either physically or emotionally. This type of lesson can be passed along by anyone, regardless of age or training. However, quite often, one associates this type of knowledge with those who have lived long enough to absorb such life lessons. The novel, Oral History by Lee Smith and the poem, Fishing Among the Learned by Nikky Finney take two distinct and separate forms, but each work is separated into individual sections and focuses on an elderly female character who fulfills the role of an all knowing sage, relying on nature and rituals to teach younger generations the importance of a type of knowledge that cannot be learned in an academic setting. Each of these written texts is broken into distinct sections that represent either a certain type of knowledge or a specific character relying knowledge. Finishing Among the Learned is comprised of three sections. The first references the speaker s childhood and introduces the grandmother who fulfills the role of teacher in the poem. Finney writes ... The prosperous business and professional families could live there. Richard Foss and Edward Starkie were two minority shareholders, and claimed that the property of the company had been misapplied and various mortgages were given improperly over the company s property. During the general meeting, they said that no action should be taken against them. At last, the Court dismissed and rejected the two shareholders claim, and held that a breach of duty by the directors of the company was a wrong done to the company for which it alone could sue. The first reason is because of the proper plaintiff rule is that a wrong done to the company may be vindicated by the company alone where the corporation has separate legal entity. Cloud Computing And The Cloud Essay INTRODUCTION The definition of the Cloud Computing is broad enough to cover everything such as web search and photo sharing to social networking etc. Perhaps the key point is simply that cloud computing resources should be accessible by the customers/end users anytime, anywhere, and from any platform over internet on pay for use basis. Broadly, the cloud can be described as on demand computing, fix anyone with a network connection. Access to applications and data anywhere, anytime from any device is the potential outcome. The cloud refers to wide area networks, generally the intent from which remote computing resources are shared as shown in the Fig 1.1. The cloud reduces costs and complexity and provides scalability. The biggest advantage that the cloud brings is to reduce costs and improve efficiency. An institution can rely on the pay as you go characteristic of the three pillars of cloud: PaaS and Saas. Photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt is known for capturing one of America s most iconic images of a sailor kissing a nurse on V J Day in Times Square.
