Summary Of The NovelSpill, Simmer Falter, Wither
In the award winning novel Spill, Simmer, Falter, Wither by Sara Baume there is lots of detail
using imagery and a strong unbreakable bond between a man and his dog. During this novel
there will be two characters a 57 year old bitter man named Ray and an eager one eyed dog
named One Eye. While these two are very similar in many ways they also have differences and
challenges that unfold during the novel. Both Ray and One Eye are similar in that they both share
sadness. They both didn t have moms growing up. Ray s mom abandoned him when he was just a
baby. Ray states I d like to believe the house itself gave birth to me (page 12 13). One Eye also didn
t have any parents he was all alone abandoned in the pound and still would be if it wasn t for Ray
(page 6). They also share the same sadness on page 47 Ray says, Sometimes I see the same sadness
in you, the same sadness that s in me. On page 181 Ray asks One Eye At first it was a beautiful
view, but suddenly it seems like a sad place, don t you think it s sad? On the other hand, the
sadness of Ray and One Eye are also different. Ray is sad and feels like he hasn t had a full life he
states I m fifty seven. Too old for starting over, too young for giving up. (Page 8) One Eye on the
other hand shows sadness because he only has one eye. Ray says, Was she a thickest mother sow,
angry as a thwacked wasp because of the litter of newly borns squashed into the dark behind her? Is
that why she turned on you within her curved

The Role Of Identity In Dante s Inferno
The role of religion, ancestry, and nationality are crucial in forming one s identity. These items
and more come together to create a sense of security for an individual. The narrative epic poem,
The Inferno, by Dante Alighieri takes the reader with Dante on his journey through Hell and
rediscovery of his identity. Dante s journey commenced as a result to him falling into temptations
whilst falling away from God. This led him to travel through the Dark Wood of Error which
symbolizes the worldliness that occurs when one strays from the True Way, or God s Way. The
spirit of the poet Virgil, symbolizing Human Reason, appears and leads Dante away from the Dark
Wood of Error and to the Divine Illumination with a journey through Hell. The need... Show more

Furthermore, those he converses with had impacted Dante in some way during his lifetime. The
combination of religion and nationality begin to form the prominent factors of Dante s identity
as he commences his journey through Hell in order to reestablish himself as a committed
Catholic. Not only was Dante overwhelmed by the feeling of chaos due to the fear of losing his
identity, but he was also faced with the overpowering sense of disorientation brought upon by
being in Hell. The disarray caused the need for Dante to find a way to bring security onto
himself. The security that Dante sought was found in increasing the strength of his identity. For
many people, identity brings about a sense of security because it allows them to connect with a
specific group of people who are similar to them. Knowing that there are people who think, talk,
act, and believe in a similar way is comforting to many people. For example, when Dante was
exiled He was no longer Dante of Florence. He was without identity, nome, or without name
(Brantley). Dante lost the security that came with being a Florentine and being associated with
Florence. Instead he was just Dante and because of that the security he had with his identity was
shaken. Dante may have shared his Catholic beliefs with others, but once a vital part of an identity
is taken away, so is the

Industrial Organizational Psychology
The medical profession is one of the most crucial professions in any country, including the United
States. As such, it is ideal to refine processes and practices in order to maximize the output of
employees within this profession. Although such an outcome is desired of any sort of organization
that industrial organizational psychologists work in, it is pivotal to achieve this objective in the
medical profession for the simple fact that the result of medical procedures directly affects the health
and vitality of the profession at large. Industrial organizational psychologists improve workplace
conditions for employees (No author, 2013). Thus, there is increased scrutiny on industrial
organizational psychologists and there work within the medical field which may account for the
fact that traditionally, there are very few I O psychologists working in health care settings (Ehler et
al, 2003).
However, this traditional dearth of industrial organizational involvement in this industry only makes
that which has been documented all the more valuable. A recent research study on resuscitation for
children conducted at the University of Calgary illustrates how some medical organizations have
used industrial organizational psychology to train employees and influence future selection criteria
for them. During this particular study, employees involved in these procedures are trained in a
single day by filming their reactions to simulated resuscitation scenarios with children. Both the

Empiricist Skepticism Vs. Kant s Transcendental Idealism
Hume s empiricist skepticism vs. Kant s transcendental idealism
David Hume was a Scottish philosopher in the eighteenth century that had some pretty interesting
views on cause and effect, which made him an empiricist. This just means that he believed that you
had to experience something in order to know about it. David Hume was also best known for his
influence on the systems of philosophical empiricism, skepticism, and naturalism. Immanuel Kant
was a German philosopher and like Hume, was in the eighteenth century. Kant had many great
points in his life and research and his beliefs, to this day, continue to have massive influences on
contemporary philosophy. Especially in the fields of metaphysics, epistemology, political theory, and
aesthetics. In this paper, we will discuss David Hume s empiricist skepticism with Immanuel Kant s
theory of transcendental idealism.
Like stated earlier, David Hume had a very interesting view on cause and effect or causality. Like
me, many of us believe that cause and effect go together hand in hand. For example, take the
billiards game pool, If I hit the cue ball into the eight ball, we will call this idea one, and the eight
ball proceeds towards the designed pocket, we will call this idea two, this would be cause and
effect. I did something that made something else do something. Many philosophers have used
this idea also. Thomas Aquinas wrote in his Summa Theologica that every cause is dependent on
a previous cause. This proceeds back to the very first motion. If there is no first motion then there
will be no immediate cause or even a final cause. Now, David Hume was a bit different. Hume s
critique was that our experience was basically two ideas that have customarily became conjoined
with each other. These two ideas could absolutely be unrelated, but has always occurred together in
the past. Hume s belief is that our minds have added something extra. Our minds would add through
experience that because the cue ball hit the eight ball, then the effect would be the eight ball
moving. When in reality it has given us the habitual occurrence that the eight ball moves when hit
by the cue ball.
With this being said, it is really hard for me to believe

Literary Devices In If You Forget About Me By Pablo Neruda
Love loves to love love. James Joyce. Regardless of geography, gender, sexual orientation, religion,
race, education or economic status humankind desires love, and it s through literature and art that
we find a universal connection provided by the artist or author, and oftentimes advice to help us
cope with our humanity. For instance in If You Forget About Me , poet Pablo Neruda uses literary
devices such as tone and metaphor to represent how lovecan be romantic, yet volatile. For
example, Neruda uses a switch in tone from the beginning where the speaker is loving and
romantic describing how, everything carries me to you (Neruda 11). The tone changes in the
middle of the poem, becoming ominous, Well, now, if little by little you stop loving me I shall
stop loving you little by little. (Neruda 17 19). These quotes show how love can mean everything
and nothing at the same time, the speaker describes in the first quote how everything in his life
revolves around his lover but if he/she decides to fall out of love he will easily do the same.
Neruda also uses a metaphor, leave me at the shore of the heart where I have roots, Remember
that on that day, at that hour, I shall lift my arms and my roots will set off to seek another land. (
Neruda 28 35). I believe the shore represents home, if the speaker s love leaves him/her stranded
they will quickly move on to find someone new to fill their place. Humans will constantly seek love
and relate everything around them to

Lyme Disease In The 1970 s
Lyme disease was discovered in the 1970 s, as any other disease was, by a large number of cases,
with patients having the same symptoms. In Lyme, Connecticut, a doctor was having patients who
were all suffering from the same symptoms that made patients become debilitated. There were so
many cases that the doctor marked it as an unknown disease. It wasn t until later in the 1980 s that
there were more widespread cases throughout the north east. Lyme diseaseis becoming a serious
problem in the north east and especially in New York State, given the drastic increase of cases.
Without treatment Lyme disease can result in blindness and in severe cases, death. In the 1970 s,
doctors were receiving patients who were having odd symptoms. The symptoms were swollen
knees, paralysis, skin rashes, headaches, and severe chronic fatigue ( History of Lyme Disease ). In
the 1980 s a doctor named Willy Burgdorfer was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lyme disease to ticks, rodents are the main threat. Ostfeld s research indicates that white footed
mice infect 75 95 percent of larval ticks that feed on them, while deer only infect about one percent

populations to grow and infected ticks to spread.
Chances of being bitten by a nymph (young deer tick) are greater during mid May to mid August.
Generally, they are the size of poppy seeds. Adult ticks are greater during March to mid May and

Short Story On Wilbur Jennings
It was a cool misty morning on June 1, 1853. Wilbur Jennings is just rolling out of bed after the
second time of Ms. Ulga yelling at him to get up. He slowly slid out of bed, barely awake until
his feet hit the frigid floor; he quickly went to the tiny dresser And grabbed a pair of dingy socks,
one with a hole in it. As he slipped them on he saw Terrence combing his hair in front of the
cracked mirror hanging over the rusted out sink. Terrence was his best friend; And had been as
long as he could remember. He threw on his old hat he had had for a year And a half. He and
Terrence started towards school; on the way they went by the newspaper shop and saw in huge
bold letters, WANTED JESSE JAMES. As they had done time and time before Terrence went in

he talked about it as if it were a dream, but the more he talked the more infuriated Wiley became.
All at once Wiley drew his pistol and pointed it at Cole, he shouted, SINCE YOU WANNA JOIN

Reasons Behind the Failure of the Provisional Government...
Reasons Behind the Failure of the Provisional Government
The provisional government was brought about after the fall of the Tsarist government collapsed.
This was done purely because of lack of support for the Tsar and being the only major party. They
were in power for 8months and after making five serious errors; they were removed from power by
force. Kerensky ran the provisional government and it was his lack of judgement, just like the Tsars
stupidity and gullibility that let him down.
The first error he made was that he made no attempt to make the provisional government legitimate.
It never held a democratic election for fear of losing status. Even though at the start of their reign ...

This left an army that was majorly weakened and people thought that, like the Tsar he was a loser
of wars. The populations now have an even worse opinion of him and it was not good for his
popularity.
Kerensky underestimated the Bolshevik s and Lenin. Once he had fought off their uprising with
Lenin s plan of Peace for the Army, Bread for the Workers and Land for the Peasants , he thought
sending Lenin to exile was sufficient. After Lenin accepted that he had lost his chance to become
President, an uprising in Petrograd (Kornilov Affair a point I will go onto in my next paragraph)
means Kerensky has to rearm the Bolsheviks in order to retain order. This leaves other countries
and supporters of Lenin with a chance to send him back into the country and to try and push the
country into another revolution (bringing about communism ideally). Lenin s plan to try to please
as many people as possible could come back into effect and this time it had a substantially negative
effect on Kerensky s position in Russian parliament.
Continuing from my last point, Kerensky s lack of judgement about the Kornilov affair was a
definitive error of his. He thought that the Bolshevik s were attempting to take over Russia by means
of a coup, thus he asked Kornilov to send part of his army to protect him. When they got there,

Family Therapy And The Family
Family therapy is essential to working with clients because it helps social workers connect the
patterns within each family. According to Nichols, family therapy considers how problems may be
a product of the relationships surrounding them (p. 50). It can help health professionals understand
why there is problematic behavior in familymembers through the context of the family dynamics
and relationships. Family therapy is how we aid our clients in understanding these relationships,
and how we help them solve and work through the family problems. This paper will discuss, assess,
and provide treatment goals for the Taylor family using the Structural Family Therapy perspective.
Family Intervention Model Structural Family Therapy and Bowen Family Therapy are two useful
intervention models that help families with their problems. However, each model addresses these
problems in a different way. The Structural Family Therapy model looks at the problem through the
relationships within each of the family members and the subsets of the family (Fredricks, 2014).
Structural Family Therapy recognizes that the family may operate according to generic or
distinctive house rules. The point of Structural Family Therapy is to remodel the family system into
a healthier one. Bowen Family Therapy looks at how the family dynamics, values, morals, and
relationships are passed down through each generation, and how it affects the overall family unit
(Brown, 1999). It looks at the multigenerational

Pinderfield Hospital Interview Report
06 01 2017: Interview as a Safety Support Worker for MidYorks Hospital.
I had an interview for a new job today at Pinderfields Hospital. The interview went really well
and the Senior Sister gave me an offer instantly. However upon realising that I could only work
part time (23 hours/ week) and not a bank position, I started to wonder whether the job will be
suitable for me.
Initially was really keen in getting the job because I was fed up of cleaning the wards for
mediocre results. I was even more delighted that there was an opportunity to work at Dewsbury
Hospital, as I missed volunteering there a lot. However I was upset that a bank position was not
available (despite advertising it) and that I had to work contracted hours.
The interview went well. This was no surprise as a lot of the questions were based on protocols
and the job description (which I knew fairly well). There was one question that did throw me;
asking how I could improve a patient s memory (and therefore, decrease the risk of dementia). I
tried to stay calm throughout, however, I did feel like I mumbled a lot in my answers. However the
Senior Sister insisted that I worked on her ward (a stroke rehab), so I m glad I ... Show more content

2.1. Three organisational concepts applying to one character: Three organisational concepts that
apply to the character Jessica Pearson are Range of control, Delegation and Authority. Jessica is
the head of the law firm suits. Range of Control: This refers to how many workers work under
the supervision of the specific manager. Generally it is possible for someone s span of control
to be able to increase however Pearson is at the top of the particular firm. Her range of control is
evident right from the beginning of the episode; we are able to see throughout the episode that
high level managers (Spectre and Lit) report to Pearson and that ultimately she is responsible for
the company. Delegation: This is the ability of a manager to be able to transfer work to other
employees that are lower than them or report to them. This is also seen as handing over
authority to a person (or group of people) regarding a particular job. In many cases, however, this
job is not done efficiently as many managers are not trained in the line of delegation, or for
various other reasons delegations is done incorrectly, for instance there is a lack of belief that the
employees will do the job correctly, or the need for a manager to make themselves completely
indispensable etc. Pearson, nonetheless seem to be an efficient worker with the capacity... Show

It had been attempted to demolish homes in the neighborhood in the 1960 s in order to create
more room for traffic on the streets, as well was create highways. Jane Jacobs, who lived in
Greenwich village which is one of the neighborhoods that border Union Square, helped put a
stop to the demolition because she believed in the importance of street life. Despite further
reconstruction of the parks area, the street life has remained strong. The farmers market that
exists year round opened in the mid 1970 s and has been around ever since. Even with the
previous demolition, crime rates in the park rose again. Union Square park underwent more
renovation which was organized by Edward Koch in order to make the neighborhood and park a
safer place for people to be. Plazas, subway kiosks and more lighting were added in hopes to
decrease crime and increase revenue by attracting middle and upper class people to move in, as
well as be a place for tourism. As the park began to change, so did the surrounding neighborhoods.

Post Fire Segmentation
An increase in elevation sees an abrupt change in vegetation structure and composition, occupied
by low growing sub alpine woodland dominated by snow gums and treeless valleys (Figure 1).
Barker (1998) found that post fire, the woodland consisted of regrowth from lignotubers.
However, if fire intensity is too severe, these lignotubers will be destroyed, severely impacting on
the regeneration process and vegetation structure (Barker 1998). Such conditions will burn
vegetative cover, removing or damaging the vegetation enough that the above ground parts die
shortly after the fire event. In seasonal, low intensity fires, woodlands burn slowly, where the
above part of the tree survive and the bark at the base of the trunk is damaged due to the... Show

Camac et al. (2013) found that in alpine heathlands, little difference in plant diversity and
composition across a fire severity gradient were found five years after landscape scale fire. They
also suggest that these heathlands are similar to temperate sclerophyllous shrubby vegetation
types which re establish within one to two years after fire. Whilst composition was not affected,
vegetation structure was impacted by a substantially higher amount of bare ground, increasing
soil loss, invasive species and lower shrub cover after burning (Camac et al. 2013). Alpine
shrublands and grassland boundaries may be affected by fires, where dynamics exist with
grasses replacing shrubs over time in the absence of fire disturbance (McDougall and Walsh
2007). As disturbance creates bare ground, this triggers the cycle of shrub regeneration and
dominance which may cause larger fires due to its high flammability (Williams et al. 2006). If
frequent fires persist however, the community structure of for example, alpine wetlands, would
result in large burned patches that take decades to recover or will not recover at all due to the
disruption of local hydrology (Williams et al. 2006). The loss of key stone species will also cause
longer regeneration (decades or even centuries) of various species (Walsh and McDougall 2005). It
has been argued that intense, large, infrequent fires in the alpine landscape

A Interview With My Grandmother
I enjoyed reading your interview with your Grandmother, she sounds so much like my
Grandmother. How she grew up also sounds a lot like how I grew up, just different times. We
didn t have a lot of money but we were happy. My Mother worked her whole life and still works
today, she had lots of trouble raising four children until she met my Dad who adopted us. I
remember we were getting canned food delivered to our trailer at one point before she met my
Dad. It all changed when my Dad found my Mom and married her and took on all four of us. For
some reason, I couldn t help but to remember making mud pies and building forts in our yard.
That was one thing we did have was a huge back yard with a fence, so we would pretend the yard
was our ocean full of sharks. We would climb around the fence and if we fell, we got eaten by
the sharks. For some reason this interview made me think of those great memories. Miyoko has a

Many economic developments came about during the Hellenistic period, historians state that it was

A hero is defined as a person who is risking their life to save others. There are many differents

formed during the ancient times because those people set an example for the heroes today. On the
topic of heroes Heroes, Odysseusfrom the book The Odyssey, by Homer has displayed many
reasons as to why he should be a hero and why he should not. For instance, Odysseus appears as a
very determined character that never lost hope in getting back home. On the other hand,
Odysseus is very self centered and does not listen to other people s advice, therefore this caused a

showed many examples of not listening to advice from people, such as the advice Eurylochus
gave him to not send his men back to Circe s island to see what is on it. But of course Odysseus
does not pick up her advice and Circe turns his men into pigs, therefore Odysseus is just throwing
their lives away like dispensing bait to fish. But if Odysseus had listened to Eurylochus advice then
he would have continued his journey back home and he would still have mast of his crew
members. Odysseus also neglects the advice to not fight

The Physiological Effects of Pollutants Essay
Introduction
Contaminated groundwater that contains harmful chemicals as the result of agricultural pesticides
and human waste has long been known to negatively affect the environment. However the
culminating physiological effects of these chemicals may trigger a cascade of changes within the
Alligator mississippiensis (American Alligator) population, ultimately causing an ecological shift
that is contrary to the natural course of evolution. Chemicals called endocrine disruptors can affect
bodily functions in a variety of ways. By altering the body s hormonal balance on a chemical level,
endocrine disruptors can result in morphological changes to hormone dependent organs, which
could in turn significantly disrupt the animal s growth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1980, a chemical spill in the area nearly decimated the American Alligator population of Lake
Apopka and resulted in a multitude of negative effects years afterword from which the population
has not yet fully recovered (Arcand Hoy and Benson, 1998). This is primarily blamed on the long
term effects of endocrine disruptors that were introduced into the system. Either by mimicking
natural hormones and binding to hormone receptors, or by blocking the binding of natural
hormones to hormone receptors, endocrine disruptors are able to alter how natural hormones are
produced and used (Oberdorster and Cheek, 2011). Because hormones are responsible for
maintaining many bodily functions, changing hormonal concentrations will disturb the body s
natural balance and produce abnormal morphological changes to hormone dependent organs
(Arcand Hoy and Benson, 1998).
Morphological Effects on Body Size
For example, thyroid hormones are necessary for proper development of the central nervous
system and skeletal systems. Therefore, changes in thyroid levels would produce morphological
changes in brain and bone tissue. In Lake Apopka, studies have proven that the greater the
concentration of thyroid hormone, the smaller the alligator s body size as a result of skeleton
malformation. In contrast, an increase in the concentration of steroid hormones has been proven to
produce a larger body size (Crain et al., 1998). In another hormonal study,

Zheng He s Voyages Analysis
The first voyage that was from 1405 1407 was composed of 317 ships and nearly 28,000 men. In
addition to thousands of sailors, builders and repairmen for the trip, there were soldiers,
diplomatic specialists, medical personnel, astronomers, and scholars of foreign ways, especially
Islam. The second voyage from 1407 1409 took 68 ships to attend the trip. Zheng He organized
this voyage but did not actually lead it in person. The third voyage which is from 1409 1411 had
48 large ships and about 30,000 troops. When fighting broke out there between his forces and those
of a small kingdom, Zheng put down the fighting, captured the king and brought him back to China.

Colonization of Egypt
What is a good country? Is a good country a country with a cheerful population? Is a good country
a country which controls more land than the next? Is a good country a country whose government
and economic system has absolutely no problems? Or is a good country a country that has a
delicate balance of benefits and problems. Well, we are here today to discuss the corruption of Egypt
, a good country, by Britain, a huge and powerful country. Although Britain was not the first,
Britain has retained control of Egypt for nearly 40 years and I am here today to ask for the
freedom and decolonization of Egypt from Britain. br br This problem all started in 1882 when the

Unfortunately, this pristine army was used entirely as a British commodity, without any Egyptian
permission. The new army was composed of mostly high to upper class citizens. These citizens
were chosen either because they had enough money to leave Egypt, or they were rebellious. The
citizens were shipped to a British camp in Cairo where they were stripped of their money and
clothes. They were given one uniform, a rifle, and a pair of shoes. The following day they would
begin learning deadly techniques for battle. Throughout this process, the Egyptian citizens thought
that they would be used for defensive purposes. Little did they know that the British were planning
to use them to do their dirty work in battles that were totally non Egypt related The Egyptians
could do nothing to avoid this unfair ruling by the British. If decolonized, Egyptians could be rid
of this problem and live in love, not fear. br br Oddly enough, the only things that the British
improved in Egypt were the health care, education, and improved farming methods. This
improvement was not for the Egyptians however, but for the traders and merchants which stayed in
Egypt while crossing the Suez Canal. Although the Egyptians did not benefit from these
improved resources, they were still expected to pay for it in the form of taxes. br br The economy

Australia s Joint Military Initiatives
Introduction
In November 2011, Prime Minister Julia Gillard and US president Barack Obama announced to
Australian parliament a number of joint military initiatives the two countries would undertake as a
part of the US strategy to rebalance towards the Pacific region. While touring the US in 2013,
Prime Minister Gillard continued to convey her support during a speech to congress where she
proclaimed, you have a true friend down under. However, does this sentiment place Australiain a
conflicted position given its perceived economic reliance on Chinese trade? This paper argues this

Thesis
This research paper argues the Seasonal Workers Program can help stabilize the South Pacific by
influencing regional economies. Moreover, the program reinvigorates Australian leadership in the
region, reducing the likelihood of increased Chinese influence and therefore supports the strategic
intent of the US.
Why the Rebalance Strategy?
President Barak Obama announced to the Australian parliament in November 2011 that the United
States had commenced a review to establish key strategic interests in order to guide budgetary and
defense priorities. The US Pivot to the Pacific strategy commenced with President Obama declaring
he had directed my national security team to make our presence and mission in the Asia Pacific a
top priority. A forecast reduction in military commitments in the Middle East would allow resources
reallocation to the Pacific region to strengthen relationships with partner nations and counter a rise
in Chinese strength. Therefore, this begs the question why has the US postured to the Pacific?
The period immediately prior to the 2011 announcement saw a gradual increase in US diplomatic
interest within the Pacific region. Prior to this recent increase, the lack of US diplomatic support
gave regional partners the impression the US role in regional affairs was on the decline just as
Chinese influence was increasing. According to political

Putting A Tax On Junk Food Essay
That have gone without, including paying for breakfast to be held in schools as kids won t be
getting a decent breakfast at home because their parents and guardians would be having to pay
more for the food that they want. However, I personally don t agree with this statement, putting a
tax on junk food won t necessarily eradicate the obesity and type 2 diabetes epidemic from
overconsuming junk foods, but it will reduce the consumption by a certain amount, however it s
something that s not going to happen overnight. This is similar to smoking in the sense that
smoking is taxed because it s pernicious not only to the person concerned, but the society
around them and even though smoking is taxed, people are still prepared to buy cigarettes at a
ridiculously expensive price so they can still smoke, but the number of people that smoke has
decreased by a reasonable amount. Research..... Therefore if the government puts a tax on junk
food it will have a corresponding effect as to how smoking was taxed. The government needs to
establish a tax on all unhealthy foods and uses the money to subsidize fruit and vegetables and
promote and educate healthy eating in schools. By doing this type two diabetes and obesity and
the health issues that have been derived from these epidemics will decrease this will mean that
more people will be healthier and therefore live longer. At the moment junk food is ludicrously

Gummy Bear Lab Report
Background: In my experiment, I am trying to see how different solutions varying in pH levels
will affect the shape and weight of gummy bears. The main ingredient in most gummy bears is
gelatin. Gelatin is a collagen. It is derived from animals such as pig skin, cow skin or bones. In
the United States, gummy bears are made of gelatin. In other parts of the world where eating pork
is not accepted, gummy bears are made with a substitute of gelatin. Some ingredients used to make
gummy bears include sugar, citric acid, gelatin, starch and food coloring. In this experiment, I hope
to see how osmosis and diffusion will play a role in the interaction between the gummy bears and
the different solutions. Osmosis occurs when water moves from low solute concentrationto high
solute concentration. On the other hand, diffusion occurs when particles in the water move from
high concentration to low concentration. I also to seek to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that more acid solutions will most likely affect the form and shape of a gummy bear. The
gelatin in the gummy bear result in weaker bonds due to the acidity of the apple cider vinegar
solution. The Smart water and tap water gummy bear were over expanded probably due to
osmosis. The water moved from outside the gummy bear into the gummy bear because there is a
high solute concentration in the gummy bears. The gummy bear in the honey solution probably
did not expand much due to the solute concentration of the water and gummy bear. It did lose its
shape due to the acidity of the solution. When put in alkaline conditions, such as salt water, the
gummy bear will most likely not lose its shape. All in all, the different pH levels of solutions can
affect the form and shape of a gummy bear. The more acidic a solution is, a gummy bear will most
likely lose its form and shape. The gummy bears most likely will expand due to osmosis that occurs

Interpretation In Ford Madox Ford s The Good Soldier
Within the novel The Good Soldier, by Ford Madox Ford, narration serves as an imperative framing
mechanism for propelling the plot of the story, while also generating the fragmentation necessary
for maintaining the unclarity that pervades John s story. By both subtly positioning the narrator
John Dowell as an outsider relative to the other characters, and consequently emphasizing the notion
of being outside, Ford facilitates a pointillistic representation of the infidelities that characterize his
story. Not only does Ford distance Dowell from the other characters in his narrative, but he also
prompts the reader to reject John as an omnipotent, reliable source, thereby provoking the former to
rely on interpretation as the primary means for finding resolution. Emphasizing several factors that
distinguish John from the other characters, such as his nationality, his inclusion in and knowledge
of the infidelitous relationships, his personality type, his future reflective standpoint, and his
tendency to infuse his current attitudes and nostalgia into his retelling of this story, Ford employs
narration as the essential mechanism for framing the story.
Initially denoting both his position as an outsider, and his efforts to justify the abhorrent,
adulterous, behavior of Edward Ashburnham and Florence, Dowell frames himself as an American
who is merely observing British culture. While establishing himself within his story, Dowell claims
that the adulterous affair is, I believe, a state of things only possible with English people of whom,
till today, when I sit down to puzzle out what I know of this sad affair, I knew nothing whatever,
proceeding to concede that Six months ago [he] had never been to England (Ford, 13). That Ford
notes this distinction on the first page of the narrative forces the reader to immediately consider
John as a relative outsider in the story, a notion that is compounded by the latter s constantly
identifying cultural differences between himself and the Ashburnhams. By conceding that he had
not even traveled to England prior to his experience with the Ashburnhams, Dowell implicitly
frames their cultural differences as responsible for Edward Ashburnham s infidelitous tendencies
and Leonora s

looking like a bum in sweats. Exploring the airport, I freaked out when I saw my favorite kpop

employers put a burden on taxpayers, who pick up the cost of health care, food and housing
assistance for their workforce (Black, 2015). Not only is this driving down the consumer demand,
but it is driving families of the workers down below the poverty line and onto the streets, while the
rich are getting richer. It is not our responsibility to pay for the workers social benefits through
our tax money. It is the responsibility of the mega corporations who refuse to pay their workers
a living wage to give these rights to their workers. Legislation such as the Cook County

amount they must pay their workers so that they can afford the most essential social programs. But
this is not enough. We need to raise the minimum wage of all low income workers in America if

Peer Pressure In George Orwell s Shooting An Elephant
Peer pressure s grasp reaches everybody daily. Too often people tend follow the crowd s decision
instead of maintaining their own morals. The guilt felt after conceding to a crowd s way of
thinking can crush a person. In a small Burmese town, a police officer feels pressure in a defining
showdown with an elephant. George Orwellreveals the consequences of caving into peer pressure
through imagery found in Shooting an Elephant.
The protagonist repeats over and over he does not want to shoot this elephant. The officer shows
his tender emotions towards elephants and depicts early on the grandmotherly air they possess.
Orwell conveys many times his unwillingness to shoot the elephant, and at one point he says the
gun he grabs to shoot it was much too small to kill an elephant. Subconsciously, he did not want
this elephant to die, so he grabs this small rifle just to stop the fear in the crowd. After it suffers for
a while, Orwell s sheds a light on his inner conflict with shooting the animal. His incapability of
comprehending his actions devastate him and he, could not stand it any longer and went away. ...

Cultural Identities and Customs
As we keep moving forward towards a new ever changing future, we equip ourselves with cultural
identities and customs so that we can relay it upon our future generations. Overtime these customs
evolve and adapt with their newer inhabitants, but there are other customs that lay stagnant, not
willing to be changed by the population itself. In certain parts of the continent of Africa, an age
old tradition of female genital mutilation is still practiced to this day. While the practice is
declining in some countries, it remains almost universal in Somalia, Guinea and Egypt (The facts
about female genital mutilation interactive, 2013). Female genital mutilation (FGM) can be
viewed as barbaric in the way the procedure is carried out. It involves partial or the whole
removal of the external female genitalia or injuries to the female genitalia or organs for non
medical reasons. It disrupts the natural functions of the girls or women s bodies due to the removal
or damaging healthy and normal female genital tissue. This procedure triggers a series of real life
consequences, starting with the excruciating pain, immediate, and long term health consequences,
which includes difficulties in childbirth, also causing dangers to the child (Health Topics: Female
genital mutilation, 2014). About 140 million girls and women worldwide are living with the
consequences of FGM, which is mostly carried out on young girls between infancy and age 15

The idea of an absolute monarchy had been the foundation of rule in Europe from the beginning.
However, a constitutional monarchy would provide a greater representation and opportunity for the
subjects of France moving forward. Migrating to a more democratic government through a
constitutional monarchy would better suit the people because it would grant the subjects more
political power while limiting the power of the King, and creating an equitable administration that
would abolish the caste system. Allowing this change created a form of accountability in regards to

Summary Of The Net Imagery In Oresteia
In the Oresteia, revenge drives the characters to act. Although they call it justice, it is not.
Aeschylus uses net imagery to symbolize faith and destiny. When Clytemnestra murders
Agamemnon and Cassandra, the net imagery acts as a symbol of terrible fate. However, then fate
reverse. Now, Orestes is caught in Apollo s net and kills his own mother. Lastly, Athene changes
the meaning of the net from one of chaos to that of order and justice. These uses of the net
imagery help the reader focus on a crucial theme in the play: the superiority of a formal justice
system to one based on the individual quest for revenge by progressively altering the nets meaning
and its affect on those around it.
Clytemnestra s use of the net imagery focuses the reader on the drawback, that is, collateral
damage, of a justice system that is based on the individual quest for revenge by emphasizing the
collateral damage associated with revenge. As she stands over the bodies of Agamemnonand
Cassandra she says: I wrapped in a great net not a fish could have slipped from the shoal (69).
Involving the shoal in Clytemnestra s speech explains that with every revenge quest there are
innocent people who suffer the repercussions. An avenger does not consider the bystanders
surrounding the guilty person. Clytemnestra states that the net was so large that the fish could not
escape the shoal. If the fish s fate is to be caught in the net yet it cannot escape the shoal, that means
the shoal suffers the same

Language Assessment Literacy
Language assessment literacy refers to the familiarity of the stakeholders with measurement
practices and the application of this knowledge to classroom practices and issues of assessing
language (Inbar Lourie, 2008). Appropriate assessment provides teachers with important
information about student performance and about the extent to which learning objectives have
been achieved in the classroom. Despite the importance of student progress assessment (Taylor,
2009; Scarino, 2013), many teachers and test users have a limited understand¬ing of assessment
essentials (Popham, 2009). Competencies that language teachers need to acquire in order to
develop assessment literacy include the ability to understand proper testing practices, use various
means of assessment, interpret assessment results, and use the results in their teaching (Boyles,
2005). Language teachers, who also fulfill the role of testers, want a practical text that includes
relevant activities. In addition to textbooks, other approaches to develop assessment literacy are
traditional as well as face to face workshops, online tutorials, reference frameworks, video projects,
pre conference workshops, and series of narrative accounts.
This study can be helpful for all stakeholders including language teachers who also are often
testers; an online tutorial is much more beneficial than other ways of assessment literacy, due to its
ease of access and no need for participation (Alderson Huhta, 2005). Using group

the Duke disguising himself as a common friar in the play, which is how the play starts to develop
inner problems, and unsavory characters are introduced. Practical jokes are used within the play to
lighten the tragedy of Claudio being executed. Angelo is the temporary leader while the Duke is
gone who has decided that Claudio will die for having premarital relations with Juliet. While...

Therefore, we beg to question what is true? What is true in the play is in the thickening of the plot
and the characters itself. The characters in Measure for Measure have chosen to challenge culture,
law, and standing before God in an effort to experience temptation. The state, the family, and the
individual are at odds with each other. Isabella and her group believe in letting people decide
how they want to live, whereas the government under Angelo s new reign; believe in freedoms
that need to be regulated. The law pertains to justice, mercy, and significance of title. Is there a
significance of title for what is legal and illegal for the characters in the play? Is Angelo allowed
to freely have premarital relations and not a commoner like Claudio and Juliet? The hope for
mercy is at question here for what is deemed to be true. The questioning of truth in Measure for
Measure relies on the path that the characters have chosen to challenge politics. Claudio and Juliet
have challenged the law. Angelo is at depths with temptation and the act of redemption on Claudio s
behalf. In Act II Scene 4 Angelo

  • 2. Summary Of The NovelSpill, Simmer Falter, Wither In the award winning novel Spill, Simmer, Falter, Wither by Sara Baume there is lots of detail using imagery and a strong unbreakable bond between a man and his dog. During this novel there will be two characters a 57 year old bitter man named Ray and an eager one eyed dog named One Eye. While these two are very similar in many ways they also have differences and challenges that unfold during the novel. Both Ray and One Eye are similar in that they both share sadness. They both didn t have moms growing up. Ray s mom abandoned him when he was just a baby. Ray states I d like to believe the house itself gave birth to me (page 12 13). One Eye also didn t have any parents he was all alone abandoned in the pound and still would be if it wasn t for Ray (page 6). They also share the same sadness on page 47 Ray says, Sometimes I see the same sadness in you, the same sadness that s in me. On page 181 Ray asks One Eye At first it was a beautiful view, but suddenly it seems like a sad place, don t you think it s sad? On the other hand, the sadness of Ray and One Eye are also different. Ray is sad and feels like he hasn t had a full life he states I m fifty seven. Too old for starting over, too young for giving up. (Page 8) One Eye on the other hand shows sadness because he only has one eye. Ray says, Was she a thickest mother sow, angry as a thwacked wasp because of the litter of newly borns squashed into the dark behind her? Is that why she turned on you within her curved ... • 3. The Role Of Identity In Dante s Inferno The role of religion, ancestry, and nationality are crucial in forming one s identity. These items and more come together to create a sense of security for an individual. The narrative epic poem, The Inferno, by Dante Alighieri takes the reader with Dante on his journey through Hell and rediscovery of his identity. Dante s journey commenced as a result to him falling into temptations whilst falling away from God. This led him to travel through the Dark Wood of Error which symbolizes the worldliness that occurs when one strays from the True Way, or God s Way. The spirit of the poet Virgil, symbolizing Human Reason, appears and leads Dante away from the Dark Wood of Error and to the Divine Illumination with a journey through Hell. The need... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, those he converses with had impacted Dante in some way during his lifetime. The combination of religion and nationality begin to form the prominent factors of Dante s identity as he commences his journey through Hell in order to reestablish himself as a committed Catholic. Not only was Dante overwhelmed by the feeling of chaos due to the fear of losing his identity, but he was also faced with the overpowering sense of disorientation brought upon by being in Hell. The disarray caused the need for Dante to find a way to bring security onto himself. The security that Dante sought was found in increasing the strength of his identity. For many people, identity brings about a sense of security because it allows them to connect with a specific group of people who are similar to them. Knowing that there are people who think, talk, act, and believe in a similar way is comforting to many people. For example, when Dante was exiled He was no longer Dante of Florence. He was without identity, nome, or without name (Brantley). Dante lost the security that came with being a Florentine and being associated with Florence. Instead he was just Dante and because of that the security he had with his identity was shaken. Dante may have shared his Catholic beliefs with others, but once a vital part of an identity is taken away, so is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Industrial Organizational Psychology The medical profession is one of the most crucial professions in any country, including the United States. As such, it is ideal to refine processes and practices in order to maximize the output of employees within this profession. Although such an outcome is desired of any sort of organization that industrial organizational psychologists work in, it is pivotal to achieve this objective in the medical profession for the simple fact that the result of medical procedures directly affects the health and vitality of the profession at large. Industrial organizational psychologists improve workplace conditions for employees (No author, 2013). Thus, there is increased scrutiny on industrial organizational psychologists and there work within the medical field which may account for the fact that traditionally, there are very few I O psychologists working in health care settings (Ehler et al, 2003). However, this traditional dearth of industrial organizational involvement in this industry only makes that which has been documented all the more valuable. A recent research study on resuscitation for children conducted at the University of Calgary illustrates how some medical organizations have used industrial organizational psychology to train employees and influence future selection criteria for them. During this particular study, employees involved in these procedures are trained in a single day by filming their reactions to simulated resuscitation scenarios with children. Both the ... • 5. Empiricist Skepticism Vs. Kant s Transcendental Idealism Hume s empiricist skepticism vs. Kant s transcendental idealism David Hume was a Scottish philosopher in the eighteenth century that had some pretty interesting views on cause and effect, which made him an empiricist. This just means that he believed that you had to experience something in order to know about it. David Hume was also best known for his influence on the systems of philosophical empiricism, skepticism, and naturalism. Immanuel Kant was a German philosopher and like Hume, was in the eighteenth century. Kant had many great points in his life and research and his beliefs, to this day, continue to have massive influences on contemporary philosophy. Especially in the fields of metaphysics, epistemology, political theory, and aesthetics. In this paper, we will discuss David Hume s empiricist skepticism with Immanuel Kant s theory of transcendental idealism. Like stated earlier, David Hume had a very interesting view on cause and effect or causality. Like me, many of us believe that cause and effect go together hand in hand. For example, take the billiards game pool, If I hit the cue ball into the eight ball, we will call this idea one, and the eight ball proceeds towards the designed pocket, we will call this idea two, this would be cause and effect. I did something that made something else do something. Many philosophers have used this idea also. Thomas Aquinas wrote in his Summa Theologica that every cause is dependent on a previous cause. This proceeds back to the very first motion. If there is no first motion then there will be no immediate cause or even a final cause. Now, David Hume was a bit different. Hume s critique was that our experience was basically two ideas that have customarily became conjoined with each other. These two ideas could absolutely be unrelated, but has always occurred together in the past. Hume s belief is that our minds have added something extra. Our minds would add through experience that because the cue ball hit the eight ball, then the effect would be the eight ball moving. When in reality it has given us the habitual occurrence that the eight ball moves when hit by the cue ball. With this being said, it is really hard for me to believe ... • 6. Literary Devices In If You Forget About Me By Pablo Neruda Love loves to love love. James Joyce. Regardless of geography, gender, sexual orientation, religion, race, education or economic status humankind desires love, and it s through literature and art that we find a universal connection provided by the artist or author, and oftentimes advice to help us cope with our humanity. For instance in If You Forget About Me , poet Pablo Neruda uses literary devices such as tone and metaphor to represent how lovecan be romantic, yet volatile. For example, Neruda uses a switch in tone from the beginning where the speaker is loving and romantic describing how, everything carries me to you (Neruda 11). The tone changes in the middle of the poem, becoming ominous, Well, now, if little by little you stop loving me I shall stop loving you little by little. (Neruda 17 19). These quotes show how love can mean everything and nothing at the same time, the speaker describes in the first quote how everything in his life revolves around his lover but if he/she decides to fall out of love he will easily do the same. Neruda also uses a metaphor, leave me at the shore of the heart where I have roots, Remember that on that day, at that hour, I shall lift my arms and my roots will set off to seek another land. ( Neruda 28 35). I believe the shore represents home, if the speaker s love leaves him/her stranded they will quickly move on to find someone new to fill their place. Humans will constantly seek love and relate everything around them to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reasons Behind the Failure of the Provisional Government The provisional government was brought about after the fall of the Tsarist government collapsed. This was done purely because of lack of support for the Tsar and being the only major party. They were in power for 8months and after making five serious errors; they were removed from power by force. Kerensky ran the provisional government and it was his lack of judgement, just like the Tsars stupidity and gullibility that let him down. The first error he made was that he made no attempt to make the provisional government legitimate. It never held a democratic election for fear of losing status. The populations now have an even worse opinion of him and it was not good for his popularity. Kerensky underestimated the Bolshevik s and Lenin. Once he had fought off their uprising with Lenin s plan of Peace for the Army, Bread for the Workers and Land for the Peasants , he thought sending Lenin to exile was sufficient. After Lenin accepted that he had lost his chance to become President, an uprising in Petrograd (Kornilov Affair a point I will go onto in my next paragraph) means Kerensky has to rearm the Bolsheviks in order to retain order. This leaves other countries and supporters of Lenin with a chance to send him back into the country and to try and push the country into another revolution (bringing about communism ideally). Lenin s plan to try to please as many people as possible could come back into effect and this time it had a substantially negative effect on Kerensky s position in Russian parliament. Continuing from my last point, Kerensky s lack of judgement about the Kornilov affair was a definitive error of his. He thought that the Bolshevik s were attempting to take over Russia by means of a coup, thus he asked Kornilov to send part of his army to protect him. When they got there, ... According to Nichols, family therapy considers how problems may be a product of the relationships surrounding them (p. 50). It can help health professionals understand why there is problematic behavior in familymembers through the context of the family dynamics and relationships. Family therapy is how we aid our clients in understanding these relationships, and how we help them solve and work through the family problems. This paper will discuss, assess, and provide treatment goals for the Taylor family using the Structural Family Therapy perspective. Family Intervention Model Structural Family Therapy and Bowen Family Therapy are two useful intervention models that help families with their problems. However, each model addresses these problems in a different way. The Structural Family Therapy model looks at the problem through the relationships within each of the family members and the subsets of the family (Fredricks, 2014). Structural Family Therapy recognizes that the family may operate according to generic or distinctive house rules. The point of Structural Family Therapy is to remodel the family system into a healthier one. Barker (1998) found that post fire, the woodland consisted of regrowth from lignotubers. However, if fire intensity is too severe, these lignotubers will be destroyed, severely impacting on the regeneration process and vegetation structure (Barker 1998). Such conditions will burn vegetative cover, removing or damaging the vegetation enough that the above ground parts die shortly after the fire event. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Camac et al. (2013) found that in alpine heathlands, little difference in plant diversity and composition across a fire severity gradient were found five years after landscape scale fire. They also suggest that these heathlands are similar to temperate sclerophyllous shrubby vegetation types which re establish within one to two years after fire. Whilst composition was not affected, vegetation structure was impacted by a substantially higher amount of bare ground, increasing soil loss, invasive species and lower shrub cover after burning (Camac et al. 2013). Alpine shrublands and grassland boundaries may be affected by fires, where dynamics exist with grasses replacing shrubs over time in the absence of fire disturbance (McDougall and Walsh 2007). As disturbance creates bare ground, this triggers the cycle of shrub regeneration and dominance which may cause larger fires due to its high flammability (Williams et al. 2006). If frequent fires persist however, the community structure of for example, alpine wetlands, would result in large burned patches that take decades to recover or will not recover at all due to the disruption of local hydrology (Williams et al. 2006). The loss of key stone species will also cause longer regeneration (decades or even centuries) of various species (Walsh and McDougall 2005). In 1980, a chemical spill in the area nearly decimated the American Alligator population of Lake Apopka and resulted in a multitude of negative effects years afterword from which the population has not yet fully recovered (Arcand Hoy and Benson, 1998). This is primarily blamed on the long term effects of endocrine disruptors that were introduced into the system. Either by mimicking natural hormones and binding to hormone receptors, or by blocking the binding of natural hormones to hormone receptors, endocrine disruptors are able to alter how natural hormones are produced and used (Oberdorster and Cheek, 2011). Because hormones are responsible for maintaining many bodily functions, changing hormonal concentrations will disturb the body s natural balance and produce abnormal morphological changes to hormone dependent organs (Arcand Hoy and Benson, 1998). Morphological Effects on Body Size For example, thyroid hormones are necessary for proper development of the central nervous system and skeletal systems. Therefore, changes in thyroid levels would produce morphological changes in brain and bone tissue. • 27. Interpretation In Ford Madox Ford s The Good Soldier Within the novel The Good Soldier, by Ford Madox Ford, narration serves as an imperative framing mechanism for propelling the plot of the story, while also generating the fragmentation necessary for maintaining the unclarity that pervades John s story. By both subtly positioning the narrator John Dowell as an outsider relative to the other characters, and consequently emphasizing the notion of being outside, Ford facilitates a pointillistic representation of the infidelities that characterize his story. Not only does Ford distance Dowell from the other characters in his narrative, but he also prompts the reader to reject John as an omnipotent, reliable source, thereby provoking the former to rely on interpretation as the primary means for finding resolution. Emphasizing several factors that distinguish John from the other characters, such as his nationality, his inclusion in and knowledge of the infidelitous relationships, his personality type, his future reflective standpoint, and his tendency to infuse his current attitudes and nostalgia into his retelling of this story, Ford employs narration as the essential mechanism for framing the story. Initially denoting both his position as an outsider, and his efforts to justify the abhorrent, adulterous, behavior of Edward Ashburnham and Florence, Dowell frames himself as an American who is merely observing British culture. While establishing himself within his story, Dowell claims that the adulterous affair is, I believe, a state of things only possible with English people of whom, till today, when I sit down to puzzle out what I know of this sad affair, I knew nothing whatever, proceeding to concede that Six months ago [he] had never been to England (Ford, 13). That Ford notes this distinction on the first page of the narrative forces the reader to immediately consider John as a relative outsider in the story, a notion that is compounded by the latter s constantly identifying cultural differences between himself and the Ashburnhams. By conceding that he had not even traveled to England prior to his experience with the Ashburnhams, Dowell implicitly frames their cultural differences as responsible for Edward Ashburnham s infidelitous tendencies and Leonora s ... The grandkids always enjoyed playing with the dogs and cats at the farm, too. Lydia stills remembers walking out into the breezeway of her house and seeing the grandkids playing with the dogs inside rather than outside. A big yearly event would be when Marvin and Lydia would take their grandkids to Bloomington Normal to see the Christmas lights and Santa. The grandkids would usually take a little bit of persuasion, but eventually sit on Santa. School functions and sporting events of the grandchildren also always held Marvin and Lydia in attendance. A big signature of Marvin was to always be handing out candy. Marvin s philosophy was that as long as the kid had teeth, he could eat candy, a little sugar never killed nobody. After Marvin s passing in 2005, Lydia made sure to carry on the tradition her husband had started and always pass out candy to every young child she saw. An article from The Chicago Reporter discussed the implications of this issue. Low wage employers put a burden on taxpayers, who pick up the cost of health care, food and housing assistance for their workforce (Black, 2015). Not only is this driving down the consumer demand, but it is driving families of the workers down below the poverty line and onto the streets, while the rich are getting richer. It is not our responsibility to pay for the workers social benefits through our tax money. It is the responsibility of the mega corporations who refuse to pay their workers a living wage to give these rights to their workers. Legislation such as the Cook County Responsibility Business Act will work to force these employers to give in through a raise in the amount they must pay their workers so that they can afford the most essential social programs. Overtime these customs evolve and adapt with their newer inhabitants, but there are other customs that lay stagnant, not willing to be changed by the population itself. In certain parts of the continent of Africa, an age old tradition of female genital mutilation is still practiced to this day. While the practice is declining in some countries, it remains almost universal in Somalia, Guinea and Egypt (The facts about female genital mutilation interactive, 2013). Female genital mutilation (FGM) can be viewed as barbaric in the way the procedure is carried out. It involves partial or the whole removal of the external female genitalia or injuries to the female genitalia or organs for non medical reasons. It disrupts the natural functions of the girls or women s bodies due to the removal or damaging healthy and normal female genital tissue. • 37. Summary Of The Net Imagery In Oresteia In the Oresteia, revenge drives the characters to act. Although they call it justice, it is not. Aeschylus uses net imagery to symbolize faith and destiny. When Clytemnestra murders Agamemnon and Cassandra, the net imagery acts as a symbol of terrible fate. However, then fate reverse. Now, Orestes is caught in Apollo s net and kills his own mother. Lastly, Athene changes the meaning of the net from one of chaos to that of order and justice. These uses of the net imagery help the reader focus on a crucial theme in the play: the superiority of a formal justice system to one based on the individual quest for revenge by progressively altering the nets meaning and its affect on those around it. Clytemnestra s use of the net imagery focuses the reader on the drawback, that is, collateral damage, of a justice system that is based on the individual quest for revenge by emphasizing the collateral damage associated with revenge. As she stands over the bodies of Agamemnonand Cassandra she says: I wrapped in a great net not a fish could have slipped from the shoal (69). Involving the shoal in Clytemnestra s speech explains that with every revenge quest there are innocent people who suffer the repercussions. An avenger does not consider the bystanders surrounding the guilty person. Clytemnestra states that the net was so large that the fish could not escape the shoal. If the fish s fate is to be caught in the net yet it cannot escape the shoal, that means the shoal suffers the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Language Assessment Literacy Language assessment literacy refers to the familiarity of the stakeholders with measurement practices and the application of this knowledge to classroom practices and issues of assessing language (Inbar Lourie, 2008). Appropriate assessment provides teachers with important information about student performance and about the extent to which learning objectives have been achieved in the classroom. Despite the importance of student progress assessment (Taylor, 2009; Scarino, 2013), many teachers and test users have a limited understandВ¬ing of assessment essentials (Popham, 2009). Competencies that language teachers need to acquire in order to develop assessment literacy include the ability to understand proper testing practices, use various means of assessment, interpret assessment results, and use the results in their teaching (Boyles, 2005). Language teachers, who also fulfill the role of testers, want a practical text that includes relevant activities. In addition to textbooks, other approaches to develop assessment literacy are traditional as well as face to face workshops, online tutorials, reference frameworks, video projects, pre conference workshops, and series of narrative accounts. This study can be helpful for all stakeholders including language teachers who also are often testers; an online tutorial is much more beneficial than other ways of assessment literacy, due to its ease of access and no need for participation (Alderson Huhta, 2005).
