PRODUCTION
PROCESS
EVALUATION
 I used primary and secondary research. My primary research
came from surveymonkey.com. On this I created a survey for
people in the class to answer, this survey gave a general idea on
peoples opinions on films and specific detail. I already knew the
age was going to be around 16-20 but other than that this
information gave me an idea of people I fairly knew and their
opinions. Primary data is usually quite reliable and valid as it is
specifically designed for the purpose of research, this particular
data was useful as it was coming from the people who are likely
to see my film
 As well as the primary research, I used some secondary research, this
was gathered from YouGov.com –profiles. I found a film which I felt was
fairy similar to mine and looked at the information about the target
audience of this, this was good as it meant I could see who the target
audience was and then include things in my film that would appeal to
people of that target audience. Secondary data is beneficial as it can come
from a range of sources and give more detail. After looking at both my
primary and secondary research my target audience became clearer to me
and It gave me a larger picture of who to direct my film towards.
 The strengths of my planning were definitely heavily based when
it came to the story development and thinking of an actual
concept for my film, this helped my product largely as it made
things a lot clearer when filming and also made doing things such
as my call sheet a lot easier which allowed the filming process to
run smoother and helped the people in the film know what they
were doing so there was little confusion. The weaknesses of my
planning came from the creating visual concepts, such as mood
boards and concept boards. I feel I struggled with this aspect as I
found it hard to visualise in a detailed way and use pictures to
describe my story and to me personally I do that better using
words. In order to improve I should have gone into more detail on
the story boards as it was quite vague and in the end the effect on
my product this had was it didn’t really fit my story very well,
however that was also largely down to the forest location I had
initially planned.
 Throughout the project as a whole my time management was good to
an extent, however there was a time I became quite far behind
however this was due to me losing my memory stick. My time
management certainly could have been a lot better in hindsight seeing
as I'm currently doing some of this PowerPoint over the holidays
although that's due to my own errors and I think the five weeks is the
perfect amount of time to do the work, if not too much time. In terms of
the film itself I filmed it on time and it did not take too long although as
it took me too long to begin filming I feel some elements were rushed,
consequently meaning my storyline does not appear to make as much
sense on film as I would have hoped while doing the story
development. I think my film could have benefited slightly from more
time as I could have rushed slightly less and as well gone into further
detail while editing. If I had more time I would have planned in even
more detail and tried to make it make more sense as well as being
shorter.
The camera equipment we used was all borrowed from
the college so it was quite good equipment that created
a good image, the iso setting on the camera was
particularly useful as it meant we could change it to get
better quality for example in a dark corridor. A similar
film to mine was project almanac as it was quite like the
same genre and it was what I originally tried to base my
first concept off. They will have used a lot more cameras
than one and of course used a larger variety of shots as
well as different special camera equipment.
An example I will compare it to is a film called project
Almanac. This is because this is the film I initially tried
to roughly base my film on as it is an action and
adventure film and has quite a similar target audience.
The audio in this film is largely different to my short
film. This is because it is more sci – fi based so there
are a lot of unnatural sounds that need to be created
for this and of course there is dialogue where in mine
there is only one line of dialogue. However a similar
aspect of this is the glitch sound effect I used could be
used in a film like Project Almanac. Also if I needed
any sound I would have had to use a basic sound
recorder whereas I assume they would have a lot
better equipment / ways of creating certain sound
effects.
Again I will compare it to project almanac for the
reasons I have already mentioned. There is mainly
differences as the other film is a full film that is
more sci fi based they would have to add a lot more
special effects to create certain images that
obviously can not be created in real life. However I
also did have to create a glitch effect on my edit, in
terms of the editing production mine would be less
professional by a huge difference as I did not use
any things like a greenscreen and I had only me
editing it compared to the likelihood of a whole
team of editors.
I think to me personally the final film after editing looked fairly
good for my standards compared to what I was
expecting. Some of the visuals I most liked was the variety of
shots I used, particularly one where the camera was already in
the elevator before the actors were. To improve it I would have
made it look more professional by having a different location
other than the college as that is as generic as it could get and I
feel really prevents the film from looking as good as it could as
the viewer automatically will have more negative connotations of
the film such as it generally just looking a lot less professional.
My initial tare audience was intended to be
roughly teenagers aged 16-19 . I would say my
film appealed to them more than most people
as the characters involved were of that age so
it would be easier to identify with them. My
survey showed me that people mainly liked the
action / adventure genre so I feel that matches
well with that my film was. There was also a
few elements of attempted comedy that my
target audience would probably prefer.

 What did you like about the product?
I liked that there was music throughout the whole short film.
 What improvements could have been made to the product?
You could have made it make more sense, especially the ending.
 What did you like about the product?
 After watching the film, I liked the angels you used throughout. I also enjoyed the sound effects you used
also. I also like the “Clock effect” you used.
 What improvements could have been made to the product?
 I think some improvements could made to your storyline, as I didn’t really understand what
was going on at times throughout the film. .
 What did you like about the product?
I liked the music and the use of the digital clock countdown. I also
enjoyed the elements of comedy within the film.
 What improvements could have been made to the product?
The audio was very quiet at the beginning and the storyline is quite
confusing.
 What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
 It doesn’t make a lot of sense, I also liked the music
 What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
 I don’t disagree with any of it
 In summary it is clear that my feedback suggests the storyline
isn’t very obvious and that it is hard to tell what is going on
especially at the end.

6. evaluation sf 2017

  • 3.  I used primary and secondary research. My primary research came from surveymonkey.com. On this I created a survey for people in the class to answer, this survey gave a general idea on peoples opinions on films and specific detail. I already knew the age was going to be around 16-20 but other than that this information gave me an idea of people I fairly knew and their opinions. Primary data is usually quite reliable and valid as it is specifically designed for the purpose of research, this particular data was useful as it was coming from the people who are likely to see my film
  • 4.  As well as the primary research, I used some secondary research, this was gathered from YouGov.com –profiles. I found a film which I felt was fairy similar to mine and looked at the information about the target audience of this, this was good as it meant I could see who the target audience was and then include things in my film that would appeal to people of that target audience. Secondary data is beneficial as it can come from a range of sources and give more detail. After looking at both my primary and secondary research my target audience became clearer to me and It gave me a larger picture of who to direct my film towards.
  • 5.  The strengths of my planning were definitely heavily based when it came to the story development and thinking of an actual concept for my film, this helped my product largely as it made things a lot clearer when filming and also made doing things such as my call sheet a lot easier which allowed the filming process to run smoother and helped the people in the film know what they were doing so there was little confusion. The weaknesses of my planning came from the creating visual concepts, such as mood boards and concept boards. I feel I struggled with this aspect as I found it hard to visualise in a detailed way and use pictures to describe my story and to me personally I do that better using words. In order to improve I should have gone into more detail on the story boards as it was quite vague and in the end the effect on my product this had was it didn’t really fit my story very well, however that was also largely down to the forest location I had initially planned.
  • 6.  Throughout the project as a whole my time management was good to an extent, however there was a time I became quite far behind however this was due to me losing my memory stick. My time management certainly could have been a lot better in hindsight seeing as I'm currently doing some of this PowerPoint over the holidays although that's due to my own errors and I think the five weeks is the perfect amount of time to do the work, if not too much time. In terms of the film itself I filmed it on time and it did not take too long although as it took me too long to begin filming I feel some elements were rushed, consequently meaning my storyline does not appear to make as much sense on film as I would have hoped while doing the story development. I think my film could have benefited slightly from more time as I could have rushed slightly less and as well gone into further detail while editing. If I had more time I would have planned in even more detail and tried to make it make more sense as well as being shorter.
  • 7. The camera equipment we used was all borrowed from the college so it was quite good equipment that created a good image, the iso setting on the camera was particularly useful as it meant we could change it to get better quality for example in a dark corridor. A similar film to mine was project almanac as it was quite like the same genre and it was what I originally tried to base my first concept off. They will have used a lot more cameras than one and of course used a larger variety of shots as well as different special camera equipment.
  • 8. An example I will compare it to is a film called project Almanac. This is because this is the film I initially tried to roughly base my film on as it is an action and adventure film and has quite a similar target audience. The audio in this film is largely different to my short film. This is because it is more sci – fi based so there are a lot of unnatural sounds that need to be created for this and of course there is dialogue where in mine there is only one line of dialogue. However a similar aspect of this is the glitch sound effect I used could be used in a film like Project Almanac. Also if I needed any sound I would have had to use a basic sound recorder whereas I assume they would have a lot better equipment / ways of creating certain sound effects.
  • 9. Again I will compare it to project almanac for the reasons I have already mentioned. There is mainly differences as the other film is a full film that is more sci fi based they would have to add a lot more special effects to create certain images that obviously can not be created in real life. However I also did have to create a glitch effect on my edit, in terms of the editing production mine would be less professional by a huge difference as I did not use any things like a greenscreen and I had only me editing it compared to the likelihood of a whole team of editors.
  • 10. I think to me personally the final film after editing looked fairly good for my standards compared to what I was expecting. Some of the visuals I most liked was the variety of shots I used, particularly one where the camera was already in the elevator before the actors were. To improve it I would have made it look more professional by having a different location other than the college as that is as generic as it could get and I feel really prevents the film from looking as good as it could as the viewer automatically will have more negative connotations of the film such as it generally just looking a lot less professional.
  • 11. My initial tare audience was intended to be roughly teenagers aged 16-19 . I would say my film appealed to them more than most people as the characters involved were of that age so it would be easier to identify with them. My survey showed me that people mainly liked the action / adventure genre so I feel that matches well with that my film was. There was also a few elements of attempted comedy that my target audience would probably prefer.
  • 13.  What did you like about the product? I liked that there was music throughout the whole short film.  What improvements could have been made to the product? You could have made it make more sense, especially the ending.
  • 14.  What did you like about the product?  After watching the film, I liked the angels you used throughout. I also enjoyed the sound effects you used also. I also like the “Clock effect” you used.  What improvements could have been made to the product?  I think some improvements could made to your storyline, as I didn’t really understand what was going on at times throughout the film. .
  • 15.  What did you like about the product? I liked the music and the use of the digital clock countdown. I also enjoyed the elements of comedy within the film.  What improvements could have been made to the product? The audio was very quiet at the beginning and the storyline is quite confusing.
  • 16.  What do you agree with from your peer feedback?  It doesn’t make a lot of sense, I also liked the music  What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?  I don’t disagree with any of it
  • 17.  In summary it is clear that my feedback suggests the storyline isn’t very obvious and that it is hard to tell what is going on especially at the end.
