EVALUATION
• I feel the strengths of my research were that it covered a wide range of
things including what my topic was and a range of other topics that I
was considering possible to do for my film. This gave me a much more
balanced view, which made it possible for me to have a much more
even thought as to what I should do. This helped my product by making
sure that I created the best film that I could as I would need to have a
clear idea about how to think of it.
 The weaknesses of my research would include that I would say that I
have not done a complete research as I may have skipped over a few
bits in order to try get it done a little faster. This was bad and could have
lead to my product not being as good as it should have been as I did not
explore every possible research section as I should have.
 The strength of my planning would be that I mind mapped the ideas as
much as I could I think. This makes it so that I can know what I’m doing
the whole time. This may also help me to visualise what will be
happening and how at each stage of the film. I also made sure to draw
up a story board so that I can see what I would like each of the frames
to look like.
• The weakness of my planning would be that I could have possibly used
some other way to produce my mind map I think as typing it out on the
computer may have reduced how my mind produced each of the ideas
as they were coming out of my mind from how much it takes to create
the separate bubbles on the map. I do find it much more easy to
produce creative ideas when it is from my hand I feel as there is more
freedom. This may have made it so that I did not imagine the best ideas
that I could have.
 I feel that I possibly could have managed my time slightly better through
this project, but also most things were produced in good time for the
deadline so I do not think it was the worst that I could have done.
 My product was produced on time, and so was all of the pre-production
aspects that were required through the process.
 I do feel that maybe if I did have much more time that I would have been
able to make it a much better product than what it ended up being,
although it was not the worst that it could have been as I had adequate
time.
 If I had more time I may have done a little more filming to try to produce
some shots that may have been better than the ones I ended up using
as I would have had more time to experiment in my environment and
practice the exacts.
The over shoulder shot shows a
darkness to the character while
focusing on the things in-front of them.
The darkness in my film is much more of
a physical embodiment than in the
Batman film as that is showing it as much
more of a psychological darkness.
As I could not include any dialogue
and had a much shorter time to film, I
could not include as much make up or
costumes, but I feel the camera is
focused on the important aspects.
I recognise that I did not
manage to focus the
camera and get the
settings quite right as I
would have liked to.
I added in some sound effects
for some of the more important
sections such as the typing to
show the importance of the
scene.
I did not add sound effects for
every scene as I felt that it was
not as important to include it all.
I had a backing track for the
whole thing so there were no
moments of absolute silence as I
realise from experience that it is
not as good to watch a silent film
with no music.
I have included fade to blacks, cross fades, and
jump cuts within my film. These were used as they
fitted in the context and I feel that they are quite
highly used in mainstream media too.
I have not done too much
dramatic fading within my film as
I did not feel that I had enough
dramatic shots.
I quite like how I got the opening shot of my
film as I feel it gives the character a slightly
dark opening and makes it quite intense. Also
the fact it is an over the shoulder shot makes it
much rarer for me to complete accurately from
past experience.
I also like this shot as I feel it is quite
a good match on action where both
characters walk into shot and leads
to a cross fade. This could have
been improved by ensuring the
camera was set up correctly, but I
feel in the time done it was
acceptable.
I feel that I have appealed to my
audience by making it have a twist
at the end. This is because my
audience like to be surprised and
have their views challenged.
I also feel that it may be appealing to
my audience from the fact that it
features a darkness and mystery that
is sometimes quite a popular genre.
PEER
FEEDBACK
 What did you like about the product?
 The filming is good.
 The music is intense and then it changes when the light comes on and
it changes the whole film.
 The clock is a good extra and Rhys saying ‘Time is running out’ is
good.
 What improvements could have been made to the product?
 I didn’t understand it but it was good use of people and ice cream.
 What did you like about the product?
I think the mood changed really smoothly and the sound effects
including ‘Time is running out’ was good. I particularly liked the scene
where the light was switched on.
 What improvements could have been made to the product?
I think the scenes where the light is off could have been clearer
because the image was quite grainy and hard to see.
 What did you like about the product?
The beginning was very eye catching and intense as it was unclear
what the character was doing with mysterious themes. Then at the
middle and end of the short film the tone changed and provided a fruity
twist to the narrative.
 What improvements could have been made to the product?
The Cornetto could have some product placement to make some
advertising money. In addition the actress in the short film could have
attempted to keep a more serious approach to one of the final scenes.
 What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
 I agree that the film had quite an unclear message behind it as I found
it quite difficult to get that across properly.
 I also agree that the mood change between intense and happy was
the best part of it as that felt much smoother than the rest of it.
 The fact of the dark shots being grainy, I completely agree with as the
camera was not on the correct settings and I did not realise until it was
too late.
 What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
 I disagree that the film could have included product placement as I
know it was just a college assignment.
 I also disagree that the twist was the best as it was unclear what the
message was throughout, so it could have been presented much better.
Seems as I have had my peer feedback, I would probably change my
work slightly to include much more effort put into checking and
double checking the settings on the camera to ensure there is not a
very grainy image.
I would also like to re work the story slightly in order to make it much
clearer what the story is and the character’s motivation.
