Ibsen s Perspective on Women
The Norwegian playwright and dramatist, Henrik Ibsen, wrote several plays on social drama
where he opposed the accepted traditions of the nineteenth century. Some of his most famous plays
on society versus women were A Doll s House, Hedda Gabler, and Pillars of Society. Ibsen
supported women and feminism, contrary to societal norms by creating strong women in the forms
of Nora Helmer, Hedda Tesman, and Lona Hessel from his plays.
In A Doll s House, Ibsen introduces the main character, Nora Helmer, as an independent woman
in order to present his view on society s belief of how women should be housewives and should
focus on their family rather than working. According to Michael Meyer, the character of Nora is
a reaction to the denial of the hoary problem of women s rights (Templeton). Nora s character
continuously attempts to be independent, rather than being dependent on her husband. She wants
to be taken seriously, rather than being a doll in a doll s house, at the disposal of her husband.
For example, Nora says to her husband, Torvald, If I m ever to reach any understanding of
myself... I must learn to stand alone. That s why I can t stay here with you any longer (Ibsen, A
Doll s House 81). By including the dialogue, Ibsen displays how women are strong and should be
able to find their own identity without their husbands oppressing them. The last few lines of the

Susan B. Anthony And The Abolitionist Movement
Susan B. Anthony devoted her life to the rights of women s labor, receiving equal pay, and
leading the women s suffrage movement. She grew up in a home where politics was frequently
discussed. Her family supported an end to slavery as part of the abolitionist movement. In her
early years, she was a teacher and became involved in the temperance movement as well as the
anti slavery movement. Because she was a woman, she was not allowed to voice her opinion.
This became a motivator for her to become a woman s suffrage leader. A skilled, talented woman
made a difference when she joined forces with Stanton. As mentioned earlier, Stanton and
Anthony opposed the fourteenth and fifteen amendments for not liberating women. As Mayo
states, she published The Revolution, a radical paper, edited by Stanton (1868 1870), and
lectured for over six years to pay off its debt. (Rights for Women, para.3) She was arrested for
voting in 1872. She led a woman s protest at the 1876 Centennial delivering a Declaration of
Rights written by Stanton and Matilda Gage. She wrote and published, with Stanton and Gage the
History of Woman Suffrage (1881 1885) (Mayo para. 5). Although she was arrested and it seemed
like nothing came easy, she never gave up. Anthony was a hard working woman that rallied many in
hopes of advancing women s rights. She gathered signatures on suffrage petitions at the state and
national levels, undertook arduous state tours to organize suffrage campaigns in the states

Especially With An External Customers Or Organisations,
Especially with an external customers or organisations, the experience the have when speaking to
a company over the phone can leave a lasting impression on the company as a whole, whether it
be positive or negative. When answering the phone to those outside of the business, I always
make sure to answer the phone as promptly as possible and giving the standard organisational
greeting. Depending on what the caller is asking, they should then be directed to either a
colleague, a message should be taken down for them, or you may be able to answer their queries
yourself.

To prevent making mistakes, I will usually very quickly prepare what I am going to say in my
head so that I do not have to re record my messages numerous times.
When finishing a phone call, I always make sure to go over any of the details that we have
discussed. Summarising what you have spoken about or even just taking note of the details of the
caller (if answering someone else s phone) will help make sure that everything is accurate show
that you are professional and care about accuracy.
It is obviously very important to maintain a good standard when speaking to people over the
telephone as this can reflect the company itself. If someone has a negative experience with one of
the employees they spoke to over the phone, they are less likely to want to become a customer of
the company. This is the same when they have a positive experience and can completely influence
their decision on working with the organisation or not.
At vivid Optical, all employees are expected to treat candidates and clients in the exact same way
when talking to them over the phone. When speaking on the phone to those outside of the business,
I always make sure to maintain a professional and well mannered personality, even when dealing
with difficult callers. Again, this should leave the caller with a positive view on the company.

Roosevelt And Wilson Involvement For Progressivism
Progressives shared a lot of similar goals and objectives. They especially came in whenever the
democratic reforms failed. For instance, where an accepted appeal can be voted into law,
referendum which involved the review of the proposed laws or direct election of senators instead of
using the normal method of legislation. Progressives always recorded success in pushing of reforms
into laws. The explanation for this could be attributed to the high level of education that the
progressives hard, consequently being more influential. The initiatives that they pushed became
triumphant than the legislative docket (Piott, 2006; Smith, 2012). This paper seek to explore the
programs that Roosevelt and Wilson initiated in a bid to advocate for progressivism.
Progressivism was powerfully present after Theodore Roosevelt took on power from McKinley,
following his assassination in 1901. Roosevelt became the first president to have a linking to the
aspect progressivism. He was dubbed a man as a champion of cautious, moderate change. His
intent was not to transform the legislation of government, but to create a fair approach in dealing
with workers and businessmen. He was marked in history to be the first head of state to have ever
arbitrated a labor dispute without defending the employers (Smith, 2012).
Roosevelt did successfully challenged the Northern Securities Company railroad combination. J. P.

Prostitution And Its Effect On Society Essay
For a free society to keep violent crime to a minimum with little disturbance on individual liberty,
government should, alongside prosecuting victimless crimes, minimize the opportunity for the
corrupt to create victims. Prostitution has been practiced in all ancient and modern cultures. In the
United States, prostitutionwas originally widely legal. Prostitution was made illegal in almost all
states between 1910 and 1915 due to the influence of the Woman s Christian Temperance Union
which was influential in the banning of drug use and was a major force in the prohibition of
alcohol. In 1917 the legally defined prostitution district Storyville in New Orleans was closed
down by the Federal government over local objections. In Deadwood, South Dakota, prostitution,
while technically illegal, was tolerated by local residents and officials for decades until the last
madam was brought down by state and federal authorities for tax evasion in 1980 (Weitzer).
Prostitution remained legal in Alaska until 1953, and is still legal in some rural counties of
Nevada, including areas outside of Las Vegas.
Prostitution is the provision of sexual services for a negotiated payment between consenting
adults. Prostitution is a service industry like any other in which people exchange services for
money or other reward. No person s human or civil rights should be violated on the basis of their
trade, occupation, work, calling or profession. Additionally, no law has ever succeeded in

Rabbit-Proof Fence
Rabbit Proof Fence is the name of the film directed by Philip Noyce. This movie is about three
girls, Molly, Daisy and Gracie, who are taken away from their families to a camp in Moore River
where they bring up the Aboriginal kids as white kids. The girls then go on a nine week journey
back home and this movie showcases the journey and the obstacles the girls had to face before
coming back home. A particular scene from this movie, Stolen , is about the three girls enjoying
their day when a white man comes and takes them away to the campgrounds away from their
families. There are many techniques used in the scene Stolen . One being close up. In this scene a

This technique helps us understand the emotions Constable Riggs is feeling. With this
technique, we can see that he is waiting for the right time to make his move. This shows us that
he is determined about what he is going to do and is feeling confident about his plan as we can
see his eyes fixed on the girls. The director wanted to show us that Constable Riggs is a cunning
person since before he made his move he was quite close with the Aboriginal people and they
trusted him and respected him. However, with this technique, the director wanted the viewers to
see the other side of Constable Riggs with the confidence and determined shown from his facial
expressions. The director also wanted to show us that nothing will be able to stop him from
capturing the girls. He also wanted to show us that Aboriginals respect the white and white people
are more powerful from them as we saw Constable Riggs showing the documents that the mothers
of the girls have no say on the situation. This is relevant to anyone as from this scene it is shown
not to trust others easily. This is relevant because like Constable Riggs we can

Literary Interpretation In The Birth-Mark
The Birth Mark is a story about a husband, Aylmer, who looks at his wife, Georgiana, as
imperfection, due to the mark on her left cheek. The setting of the story was based in the late
1700s, between the laboratory and a boudoir. In the story, a lot of detail goes into the laboratory
and the boudoir that help characterize them and help give the overall metaphor at the end of the
story. The details of both places show the effort Georgiana is going through to satisfy Aylmer. It
also helps one visualize what setting they are in, also, how it disturbs the project at hand. If one
were to be an allegorical reader, it would present the ruin Aylmer is putting Georgiana through. In
the story, figurative speech supports the setting by specifying what the places are and where
they occur. The lab was classified as depressing, gloomy, and dark while Georgiana s boudoir is
bright and airy. The mood setting of a place is figurative speech. The central metaphor of the
story is the name given to it, The Birth Mark. Georgiana was not only beautiful but she had a
birthmark on her which makes her stands of from other girls. It makes her unique in some ways.
The one person who not wanting to accept this mark on her face is Aylmer, he husband. He claims
to not be able to accept this distinguishing trait about Georgiana so he tries to take away this factor
on her face that makes other stare. This gives us the idea to take this birthmark as the metaphor in
the story. This stands for

DSDM is rooted in the software development community, but the convergence of software
development, process engineering and hence business development projects has changed the
DSDM framework to become a general framework for complex problem solving tasks. Advantages
Active user participation throughout the life of the project and iterative nature of development
improves quality of the product.
DSDM ensures rapid deliveries.
Both of the above factors result in reduced project costs
Disadvantages
The first thing is DSDM is costly to implement, as it requires users and developers both to be
trained to employ it effectively. It may not be suitable for small organizations or one time projects.
It is a relatively new model therefore It is not very common and easy to understand.

Research Paper On Naruto
Everyday millions of people will take at least one selfie and post it to a social media site. Half of
the time these people will be within eyesight of an animal, do you ever wonder what they think
we are doing? Just imagine, what if your dog or cat have ever wondered what it would be life to
take a selfie. Well one animal did, Naruto the monkey picked up the camera of a photographer and
snapped a selfie. This led to a big controversy, people were arguing that the selfie copyright
belonged to Naruto, others said it belonged to the photographer, and lastly people said it belonged
in the public domain. Even though it s said the photo should go in the public domain, the
photographer should hold the monkey selfie copyright because Naruto is an animal and Naruto will
not benefit from owning the copyright. The copyright to the monkey selfie should go to David
Slater. Slater said that he spent about ВЈ2,000 on the trip where the incident, which got him the
monkey selfie, happened. Photographers take thousands of pictures hoping to capture one or more
photos that will bring them some income. Seeing as this photo became so famous, Slater lost

Analysis Of The Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy
I have talked before about coming from a simple life. That could be a slight understatement as I
have never previously attended a ballet, and when the question, Surely, you ve all heard of
Tchaikovsky, right? was posed I struggled to recognize the name or any significance to my life. It
was not until I heard the musical number of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy that the gears of my
mind finally associated it with memory. While the first few notes of the celesta filled the room
with carefree delight, I was transported back to the cold, laminated floor of my farmhouse
bedroom. Sitting on the gaily colored rug in the middle of my six feet by seven feet small
expanse of space, I remember holding my china ballerina/music box so gently. The object itself
is about twenty inches tall. It is a beautiful ballerina in a lavender tutu with matching slippers and
a delicate crown of flowers in her hair. The ballerina is perched upon a white cylinder, almost
reminiscent of a cake topper, that is embellished with glitter and flowers and all of the pretty
works. When the key is turned, the melody flows angelically through my small room, and I feel as
if I am not longer present instead, I am swept away to a wonderous, snowy world with enchanting
dancers. My only connection to Tchaikovsky let alone The Nutcrackeris a ballerina figurine that I
left back home. I did not have a clue what to expect, but I could barely contain my excitement.
Prior to the concert, we had covered Tchaikovsky in

Dinosaur Ice Excavation Sensory Play As you know, I m a proud Daddy love spending time

Right now he s very much into dinosaurs. Every time he sees a dinosaur toy (or anything) he
says Grrr and Dine O ! It s just the cutest thing how excited he gets over them. Over the weekend
we put together this cool (pun intended) dinosaur ice excavation sensory activity for the
munchkin. I found a similar project on Pinterest where they used balloons to freeze small toy
dinosaurs and thought I would try it with leftover Easter eggs. (Insert Link) My munchkin also
had a T Rex sand mold laying around in his beach toys so I wanted to incorporate that as well....

We placed the plastic bins upside down on the grass and they quickly separated from the ice. My
son stood in amazement at this awesome new finding, wondering what the heck it was. I told
him that he needed to help get the dinosaurs out of the ice. He repeated Dino? with excitement. I
brought the hose over to help speed up the melting time. My son loved playing with the hose and
spraying the larger dinosaurs off the block of ice. It was a prehistoric slip and slide. We made a
game of that for a while. We talked about how ice is cold and is made of frozen water. My son
would say Brrr every time we used the word cold . We showed him how the water melted the ice
and he got into that as well. Then we referred to the bigger dino s as the mama s and dada s and
the smaller dinosaurs as the babies. He repeated after us and would call them Mama, Dada, Baby
accordingly. We continued to hatch the babies from the eggs while explaining how eggs hatch in
nature. Of course our 20 month old didn t exactly grasp everything we were talking about, but he
sure had a fun time repeating after us and going through the motions of dino

Literary Analysis Of Mirror By Sylvia Plath
Some poems are exuberant, while, sometimes poems can be a cry of the heart. Written in 1961,
Mirror by Sylvia Plath is an emotional poem, successfully personified and narrated through a
mirrors point of view. Plath was an American literature figure that wrote poems, novels and
several short stories. During her life time, it was always noted that she was chronically
gerontophobic, which is the fear of growing old. Plath s poem represents a woman grappling with
the reality of ageing and fear losing her beauty. Plath unfolds...... Through the use of several
different literary terms. Plath s poem is written in stanzaic form of two stanzas each consisting of
nine lines. The double stanzaof the poem can be interpreted as catoptric, since the poem is
describing the reflections, while also describing its own image. Likewise, both stanzas are equal
in length to reflect each other, in that they both have little to no sign of rhyme or rhythm,
otherwise known as a free verse poem. The structure of Plath s poem perhaps can serve to reflect
the extended figure, for like the woman in this poem we too are entranced by the product of its
general simplicity. As Plath s poem shows no evidence of stressed and unstressed syllable
patterns or even complicated diction, the poem is written in such a way that, when spoken, it
naturally and exquisitely roles of the tongue. As a rhythm booster Plath takes advantage of
adding in phrases such as over and over and comes and goes, and in doing this attracts attention
to the sound of the word which in turn adds rhythm and flavor. In the beginning of the poem, the
speaker starts out to seem young and optimistic, seeing things exactly how they look on the
surface, although it does not judge what if feels or sees. The poem opens by describing a graven
image of the speaker, silver and exact (line 1), in which the poet felt compelled to immediately
certify the speaker. By line 5, the speaker becomes somewhat egotistical, calling itself the eye of a
little god. This line displays the mirrorsgod like powers over the woman looking into the mirror, as
she feels eager to acquire a perfect reflectionof herself. The power of the mirror is so intnse that is

Why Demographic Trends Spell Trouble For China And Russia
Introduction All around us there are forecasts predicting the future. Whether it s an article in
Forbes entitled Why Demographic Trends Spell Trouble For China And Russia And Prosperity
For US predicting a prosperous economy for the United State and Canada in 2035 (Preston, 2015)
or the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg at the F8 2016 Conference unveiling his roadmap on
what Facebook would look like in 10 years (Buxton, 2016). Both are examples of predictionthat use
different forecast techniques to predict a future outcome. The article from Forbes, predicts a
possible future due to demographic trends, whereas, Mark Zuckerberg forecasts a preferably or
probable future due to advancements in technology. However, there are number of different
forecastingtechniques that are used today in business, government, and military to predict future
outcomes. This paper looks at the different techniques for forecasting the future and how some
futurists use these different techniques for predicting future trends, technologies, and events.
Forecasting Methods First it must be noted, that no forecasting technique can be certain, however,
they can come close to a possible, preferable, or probable future. Second, the further into the future
the predictions the higher the uncertainty of the forecast (Gordon, 2009). The reason for greater
uncertainty is the possible of a wild card or black swam event happening that would be a total
surprise and have a major effect on the long term

when you re sick, when it s cold out, or any occasion. A bowl of piping hot soup can be eaten at
any time.
My favorite is potato and leek soup. Making it is quite simple. The recipe calls for leeks, butter,
potatoes, salt, white pepper, vegetable broth, heavy cream, buttermilk, and a handful of chives for
garnish.
Start off by roughly chopping one pound of leeks into small pieces. They should be around a half
an inch in width. While the leeks are being chopped, set the stovetop to medium heat. Grab a large
saucepan and place it on the stove. Melt three tablespoons of butter in the pan. Add a heaping pinch

About 36.6% of the population in the U.S belong to or identifies as one of the 5 ethnic minority
groups. These groups are Native Hawaiian, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native,
Asian, African American or Black, or Pacific Islander. The U.S has the most expensive health care
system in the world yet many of these minority groups are worse off in regards to socioeconomic

The leading cause of death in the Hispanic population is
1.Cancer
2.Heart disease
3.Unintentional injury

5.Diabetes
6.Chronic liver disease/ cirrhosis
7.Chronic lower respiratory disease
8.Alzheimer s disease
9.nephritis, nephritic syndrome,nephrosis
10.influenza/pneumonia
In an approach to health promotion and the prevention of diseases that affect the Hispanic
community disproportionately we can look at prevention in 3 levels, primary, secondary and
tertiary. Primary prevention would be preventing a disease or injury before it occurs. This could
be done with the use of education and legislation on safety and health practices. Secondary
prevention would be reducing the impact of the disease or injury that has occurred. This could
be accomplished by early detection and health screenings. Lastly the tertiary prevention would be
used to alleviate the impact of ongoing illness or an injury that has lasting effects. This would be
accomplished by helping to manage chronic and complex diseases/conditions and permanent
disabilities. This would help improve quality of life and life expectancy. One condition, while not
a leading cause of death, but on the rise in the Hispanic community is the high incidence of HIV.
The incidence rate is 3 time higher for Hispanics than white Americans. In 2013 the HIV rate in
Hispanics counted as 23% of all new infections. Hispanic males were 85% of these new infections.

Mass Media Influence
Does mass media influence human lives so greatly that a self inflicted 48 hour free period from
the influences of mass media such as television, social media, internet, recorded and live music
such as the radio, could have a measurable effect? As my personal journey into this experiment is
laid out the conclusion will become clear. Through removing forms of mass mediasuch as radio,
television, internet and newspapers I have learned that indeed mass media is not easy to get away
from, and it has a deep impact on mood, response, and critical thought processes. Through a 48
hour period, I consciously chose to remove all mass media influence, such as social media,
television, radio and recorded music, and in doing thus have come to some rather startling
conclusions about the severe and often silent effect that mass media can have on our lives. This
was a rather difficult task as most people never take the time to consider where and how mass
media influences our daily lives, and how deep the impact can be. The escape from radio is
difficult, the desire to lose oneself in television after a hard day is overwhelming and the sheer
amount that we rely on social media is harder still to understand unless you do without it for a
lengthy period. While staying clear of these forms of obvious mass media such as overt
advertisements, or Facebook seemed easy enough, though one can never be prepared to cope with
the interruption of the thought processes and mood changes that accompany this

Many of the changes had been needed for years, but were never addressed. The king beating and
trial set in motion overdue reforms in the LAPD and that had a ripple effect of law enforcement
throughout the country (Deutsch). Since this had such a major effect on the lapd in almost
destroyed their reputation. The Rodney King beating almost destroyed the reputation of the Los
Angeles Police Department. In the aftermath of the Rodney king beating a lot of things changed
with police on the field. In the wake of the Rodney king case; cameras became standard
equipment in patrol cars all over the nation (Marcou). In doing this police now cannot cover up
an incident that they were a part of. As far as citizens recording police, there is still much
disagreement about how it should be handled (Marcou). Nowhere in the constitution does it say
the citizens cannot film stuff that is happening outside their house. When it comes to training,
officers are told have your camera going at all times. A professional police officer has nothing to
fear from being recorded and always act as if you are being recorded, because in today s world you
probably are (Marcou). Thanks to cases like Rodney Kings, law enforcement is much more aware
of misuse of force in the field. Guns and other equipment in an officer s arsenal play a key role in
the officers safety as well as the safety of others

What Is Alcatraz Prison
Alcatraz Penitentiary harbored some of this country s worst criminals from 1934 until its closing
in 1963. This prison was located on Alcatraz Island, which was in the San Francisco Bay. It was
housed on this island so the prisoners would not be tempted to escape. This prison was shut down
because of the high costs to keep it running. Although many prisoners attempted to escape, the
prison claimed that all of them failed at it. Alcatraz was set apart and on an island, it was greatly
guarded because it once was a fort, and the inmates were only allowed outside for one hour each
day. Attempting to escape Alcatraz without a ride was extremely difficult. The water was really

Two brothers, and a fellow inmate disappeared and were never found. The prison reported that
they drowned in their attempt to cross the bay, but there has never been any evidence to prove
this theory. This attempt was in June of 1962, just a nine months before the prison closed its
doors. These prisoners escaped by crawling through a hole they dug in the walls of the prison,
and climbed up onto the roof. They used paper mache look alike heads and placed them in their
bunks to buy them time to escape. Supposedly, the men made a makeshift raft and paddles to
cross the bay. Since then the three men haven t been found. Altogether, Alcatraz Penitentiary was
a pretty tough prison to escape, and maybe that is why the government placed the worse
criminals there. Out of thirty six men who attempted to escape, only three went without being
captured. Over fifty years after its closing, Alcatraz is still the most infamous prison of this
country. This prison is so popular that it receives over 1.3 million visitors each year, and it s one

Theme Of Innocence In Sense And Sensibility
Finally, in Austen s Sense and Sensibility the idea of Innocence is embodied in the figure of
Marianne, as we can see in several passages of the text: Beyond you three, is there a creature in
the world whom I would not rather suspect of evil than Willoughby, whose heart I know so well?
Elinor would not contend, and only replied, Whoever may have been so detestably your enemy, let
them be cheated of their malignant triumph, my dear sister, by seeing how nobly the consciousness
of your own innocence and good intentions supports your spirits. It is a reasonable and laudable
pride which resists such malevolence. (Austen 140) Marianne is almost a child, she is only

Many young teenagers enjoy living life on the edge; they often think or see themselves as fully
grown adults, capable of making their own decisions, and having the freedom that comes with it.
But more often than not, teenagers are not fully able to grasp the sense of maturity and
consequence in every day life, much less out in the real world. In order to keep them safe and
away from harm, a curfew is a perfect wall for teens to stay behind. Everyone remembers that, at
least once as a child, they have dreamt of having the freedom, will, and maturity that their parent or
guardian possesses. Even today, children often pretend to be a business man or president; someone
that they hope to be when they get older. True, teenagers are closer to... Show more content on

Teenagers are often seen as reckless and immature, rather than having the calm and collected
composure that an adult is seen with. This immaturity can sometimes be so high, they simply
refuse to take the fall for the decisions they made; some fail to realize that, in real life, everyone
must take the good with the bad, not solely claim the benefits. This fragile flaw can very much
prove fatal, so a curfew can very much save young citizens from themselves. Many television
shows and movies are known to give a young character an episode or scene about him or her, and
it often runs down the same road; the child or teen does something reckless or idiotic, they try
extremely hard to fix it (but it often makes things worse), and when they fail, they must face the
consequences. A well known example is from the hit Cartoon Network show The Amazing
world or Gumball, where the main character Gumball causes trouble with little or no intention.
In one specific episode, Gumball accidentally damages a rented DVD, and when he tries to fix it,
he ends up breaking it. This may seem like a silly show, but there is one big comparison between
his actions and real life: In every episode, such as the DVD episode, he is forced to face the

Saving Time
Time management determines by the difference between successful and unsuccessful people.
Successful people are able to balance the goals they wish to achieve and duties. And this success
comes from their ability to their time optimally in light of their objectives.
There are two types in our lives:
Type I: A difficult timeorganizing, or managing how much time we spend in our basic needs such
as eating, comfort, family relations and social mission. It is a time cannot use it a lot in what has
been designated a degree of importance to keeping equilibrium in our life.

organize the office. (www.manageyourlifenow.com).
Sometimes we need rest and break to achieve the goal, so what we do is close the computer, close
the phone, shut down the TV or anything that makes noise. Take a short nap. That gives more
energy for every day. Also sleeping at night is better.
What I understood from these ways is if we want to manage our time well, we have to look for
efficacy and efficiencies.
Efficacy: to perform work properly and reach the desired result.
Efficiency: the performance of work in the right way and getting to the desired result, but with
minimal effort, time and cost. we need to profit and Exploit marginal times, times between
commitments and actions (such as: the use of the car, waiting at the doctor, travel, waiting for
meals, expected visitors). We must know How we spend time, then decompose and identify times
marginal, and develop a plan of operation to benefit them as much as possible. Also do not give up
urgent for the things unnecessary. According to Cameron Chapman bellow are sixteen tips to help
us better managing our time:
1) Get organized.
2) Separate work Space from Everything Else Space.
3) Take advantage of time

The Infectious Diseases Society Of America
The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) has recently noted several model antibiotic
resistant bacteria strains with redesigned capabilities in pathogenesis, transmission and resistance.
These several strains, Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae,
Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter species, have been given the
acronym based title of the ESKAPE Pathogens. These strains of bacteriacompromise one of the
biggest threats faced by physicians today not because of the infectious and devastating illnesses
they lead to, but because of their ability to resist antibiotics in the healthcare setting. Failure for
industries, academia and government to cooperate and develop research/development operations
has left healthcare providers one step behind in the fight against these new brands of infectious
diseases. A lack of research/development operations has left the healthcare industry with antiquated
antibiotics no longer capable of targeting and eradicating these microorganisms in human systems.
Klebsiella pneumoniae(contributing the K in the ESKAPE acronym) is a strain of bacteria that has
recently developed resistance against a class of ОІ Lactam antibiotics developed from thienamycin
(a naturally derived product, discovered in 1976, of Streptomyces cattleya) known as carbapenems.

Most people find surviving a night of babysitting impossible. Children can be intimidating at
times. Babysitting is not as difficult as people may think. You can survive a night of babysitting
if you follow a few steps. Some people find babysitting difficult, in order to survive a night of
babysitting you should use the following steps. First, you will need an abundance of energy.
Children have tons of energy and they are always moving and you need to keep up with them.
Next, you should keep the children busy. You should plan activities for the children to do such as
painting, hide and go seek, and board games. If you do not plan any activities to keep the children

Stand Your Ground Law
Stand your ground law is beneficial to the state of Florida. Stand Your Ground is a form of self
defense law that allows individuals to meet force with deadly force without an affirmative duty to
retreat (standyourground.org). The stand your ground law was adopted by Florida in 2005.
additionally, twenty two other states adopted this law, which is used in different situations in each
state, but are very similar. The law was adopted from a 17th century English common lawcalled

Furthermore, the number of cases that claim the defense of stand your ground law are
continuing to increase. Why, because defense attorney s are using the law in a way to state
legislators never imagined. This defense has played a major role in a number of cases with
minor or no injuries (Tampabay.com). For instance, in the case of Jordan Davis, the stand your
ground defense was abused by Dunn. Why, because he shot in the car of a young teen because
he thought he saw a gun, even though no harm caused. Dunn in this case could have avoided the
altercation by ignoring the young teen music in staying in his car. Since Dunn knew the stand
your ground law, he knew that he could get away with the crime. In nearly a third of the cases
the Times analyzed, defendants initiated the fight, shot an unarmed person or pursued their
victim and still went free (Tampabay.com). In fact, about two third of defendants that used this
claim used a shovel, gun, and other weapons like an ice pick, and a chair leg. Even though, there
are many factors that play a role when a decision is being made in a defense claim, like the
location of evidence, witnesses, and the size of the party and age involved in the case, facts do not
matter long as the person has a reasonable excuse. Reasonable excuses are causing people to abuse

Comparing Aquatic Uncle And Finding Nemo
In Both the Aquatic Uncle and Finding Nemo the plot and main characters revolve around fish
and their interactions with the sea/ocean. Though the main characters of the both stories may be

Theme Of Male Desire In Philadelphia Fire
Objects of Male Desire
In his novel, Philadelphia Fire, John Edgar Wideman takes on the task of reimagining the African
American male. While this role may seem daunting to some it was a challenge that Wideman
accepted. Through various forms of written and spoken language Wideman follows the male
narrative of Cudjoe as he tries to understand what happened on the day of the MOVE bombing.
Wideman challenges the reader s idea of a typical novel. He aims to give a new perspective on the
African American and does so in a unique and descriptive way. Wideman s re representation of the
African American male fails in a major way. The violation, objectification, and silencing of the
Euro American women in the novel prevents Wideman from changing the perspective the reader
has on African Americans (males specifically). On the back cover of Philadelphia Fire, the novel
is described as, ...the story of Cudjoe, a writer and exile who returns to his old neighborhood
after spending a decade fleeing from his past, and his search for the lone survivor of the fire a
young boy who was seen running from the flames. Based off this description, one would find it
hard to believe that much of the novel depicts Cudjoe oppressing women. To Cudjoe, women are
sexual objects. While on Mykonos he meets a dark haired woman and, She will teach him the
Greek for her body parts. (6) This woman is not given a name, and not given any direct dialogue.

Struggles and Desires in A Streetcar Named Desire by...
In the play A Streetcar Named Desire, author Tennessee Williams uses his three main characters
Stanley, Stella and Blanche to illustrate the theme of sexual hedonism in a world where each
struggles for survival and desires to belong. Stanley Kowalski and his wife Stella live in a two
room apartment on Stanley s blue collar salary. They are visited by Stella s sister Blanche Dubois
who has just lost the family plantation, Belle Reve. The three exist in the jungle society of New
Orleans where each is a victim of animal desires, social pressures and use sex to try and gain
control of the world around them.
Stanley is the protagonist who is trying to exist in the wild and as an untamed animal uses sex
as power and control. In the opening scene we see him toss meat wrapped in butcher paper to
Stella, almost like the lion who goes out to hunt and returns to the den with his kill, Stanley
carries his bowling jacket and a red stained package from a butcher...He heaves the package at her

Stanley has demanded she leave it off. Stanley reacts, Stanley stalks fiercely through the portieres
into the bedroom... with a shouted oath, he tosses the instrument out the window (57). This is
followed by the beating of Stella by Stanley. Every instance of conflict for Stanley is resolved with
aggressive behavior, emphasizing his animal like tendencies, and how he uses violence to maintain

Sociological Aspects Of Social Psychology
Social Psychology
According to Gordon Allport , social psychology is an attempt to understand and explain how the
thought, feeling, and behavior of individuals is influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied
presence of others. (Allport, 1954)
There are two differing branches when referring to social psychology:
1. The sociological aspect of social psychology, which was mainly developed in Europe as a
subdivision of sociology.
2. The psychological aspect of social psychology, which was developed in the US
The differences between the two divisions are, that the sociological way of viewing social
psychology focusses more on group interaction, group processes, while the psychological aspects
of social psychology focusses more on the individual and how the individual is influenced and/or
behaves in social settings.
Sociological social psychology is very theory intensive and constructs itself out of
geisteswissenschaften (sciences of the spirit) and social sciences. Corresponding approaches are i.e.
critical theories, which also include psychoanalytical ideas. Some of the more notable sociological
psychologists include Sigmund Freud, Erich Fromm and Wilhelm Reich.
Coming back to the psychological branch of social psychology, we see its intentions lies in an
attempt to understand and explain how the thought, feelings and behavior of individuals are
influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others (Allport, The Person in
Psychology, 1968) Quantitative

Creon is the Tragic Hero in Sophocles Antigone Essay
Creon is the Tragic Hero of Antigone
When the title of a play is a character s name, it is normally assumed that the character is the
protagonist of the play. In Sophocles Antigone, most people probably believe Antigone to be the
tragic heroine, even after they have finished watching the play. It may be argued, however, that
Creon, not Antigone, is the tragic character. When we examine the nature and concept of the Greek
Tragedy and what it means to be a tragic character, it becomes clear that Creon is indeed the tragic
hero of the play Antigone.
First, take into account the timeframe in which Antigone was written. During
the time of Sophocles, women were considered second class citizens. They

Also, at the end of the play it is
customary for the tragic hero to have lost everything, to be reduced to
nothing. At the end of Antigone, Creon had lost his kingdom, his son, his
wife, and his will to live, but is doomed to live on in his pain. Antigone
loses her life, but it is not a loss in vain, for she did accomplish what
she set out to do. It is questionable as to whether Antigone was seeking
martyrdom, but she certainly did attain it, dying for her beliefs.
The most important characteristic of the tragic hero is the tragic flaw, the
one attribute that causes the inevitable downfall of the character. It is
argued that Antigone s tragic flaw was stubbornness. She is called stubborn
in the play by Creon and also by the chorus. Yet, some would call her
steadfast, rather than stubborn. A stubborn person would continue to argue
even after he or she realized they were wrong. For Antigone, no such
realization was made. In her own eyes, the eyes of the people, and even the
eyes of the gods, Antigone was certainly in the right. Creon, on the other
hand, possessed a classic flaw, hubris, or excessive pride. Because of his
pride, Creon could not hear the sense spoken by his son, or the blind
prophet Teresius. He could not let Antigone go unpunished for her crime for
fear of looking weak to his kingdom. Thus his own bad decisions mixed with
fate caused his downfall. This is an

The Global Pursuit Of Economic Development Since The End...
In Global Political Economy, Chapter 11 discusses the global pursuit of economic development
since the end of the Second World War (219). In a nutshell, this analysis involves the account and
summary of some of the information that has been previously presented in earlier chapters of this
book. Mainly, the process of industrialization in Great Britain as well as the United States is noted
in the introduction to the chapter.
Afterwards, the authors proceed to define the term development using quotes and statements from
a few other authors. But, the central idea of development, no matter how the definition may be
worded, takes into account the themes of process and condition, or the change of condition. In
addition, when regarding the immediate era after the war, development relied on economic
growth of a country measured by its Gross National Product (GNP) (221). The Gross National
Product, according to Encyclopedia Britannica, is the total market value of the final goods and
services produced by a nation s economy during a specific period of time (usually a year),
computed before allowance is made for the depreciation or consumption of capital used in the
process of production (Encyclopedia Britannica).
The timeline of development for countries worldwide after WWII is then clarified. Many nations
were considered underdeveloped , backward , or most commonly Third World . Eventually,
countries in the southern hemisphere became known as the Global South , identifying

Contributions Of George Orwell
Orwell s Life:
On June 25th, 1903 Orwell was born in eastern India under the name Eric Arthur Blair. He went
to school in England then moved to Burma, which at the time was a British colony. He joined
the Indian Imperial Police and worked there until his resignation in 1927 when he decided to
become a writer. He moved to Paris where lack of success as a writer forced him into a series of
menial jobs (BBC). He took on the name George Orwell shortly before his first book Down and
Out in Paris and London was published. Orwell considered himself a socialist and briefly fought
in Spain against Franco s Nationalists before fleeing for his life. He wrote propaganda for the
BBC from 1941 1943 and in 1945 he published Animal Farm which brought his name to fame. In
1949 the now classic 1984 was published and the following year on January 21st 1950 he passed
away from tuberculosis.
Orwell s Work:
Most of Orwell s work was inspired at least in part by life events and his personal political views.
He used his experiences in poor areas of London and the slums of Paris as the base for his
written work Down and Out in Paris and London. He altered some of his actual experiences into
a work of fiction that would be more interesting to read than simply telling his story. Orwell s later
works often contained his political opinions, which he did not masterfully incorporate until he
wrote Animal Farm. In George Orwell: Why I Write Orwell said Every line of serious work that I

Essay about A New Educational Philosophy for Law...
Since the mid 1980 s there has been a paradigm shift in law enforcement from the military policing
model to the community oriented policing model (Breci Erickson, 1998; Pliant, 1998; Rosenbaum
Yeh, 1994; Thayer Reynolds, 1997; Varricchio, 1998). In the military model, police react to events
in the community (Thayer Reynolds, 1997). Community problems filter up the chain of command
and solutions filter their way back down. Policerespond when a crime is committed. There is little

There must be a commitment on the part of city leaders and police administration. A department
wide strategy must be in place to carry out the community oriented policing program. Finally, all
personnel in the department, including civilian employees, must be educated on the philosophy of
community policing.
Law enforcement s transition away from a militaristic tradition that presented an us vs. them
relationship with the community will be a difficult process. A shift in educational philosophy will
be required to make this transition. To effectively train today s law enforcement officers there must
be a move away from the Behaviorist philosophy of education in which the teacher feeds knowledge
to a dependant learner and then the learner is expected to reproduce the knowledge in some clearly
observable behavioral outcome (Ramirez, 1996; Elias Merriam, 1995). To realistically educate all
personnel in the organization and make the transition, the educational philosophy of the department
should be compatible with the community policing approach.
Educational philosophies can be viewed along a continuum. Philosophical positions fall along this
continuum depending on how one views the importance of the individual and society and the
involvement of the learner in the education process.

In Chapter 4, Turning the Tables on Jesus: the Mandaean View , by Jorunn Jacobsen Buckley, states
that studying the descendents of the firsts followers of Jesus, we can have a better understanding of
the social history of the early Christians. The Mandaeans were known as the knower s or Gnostics

US Intellectual Property Laws (Copyright)
Intellectual Property
Everywhere we look there is intellectual property. Intellectual property relates to intangible
property such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets (USLegal, n.d.). With all of the
intellectual property readily available, online and in print there is no wonder that we as a society
have an issue with safe guarding our own intellectual property. In order to protect our intellectual
property there have been many laws and or rules established to govern how we handle and
safeguard this type of property. These laws are found at both state and federal levels and are
different between states. In a similar fashion, laws vary between countries as well.

Translating the overall strategy into action
An overall LTD strategy may be valid over a long timeframe, though it may need to be revisited
regularly as circumstances change. It is an overall statement of intent and needs to be given more
detail to give guidance on how it will be implemented and who will translate this intent into practice
The sections below set out some of the questions that need to be asked and the choices that
organisations need to make so that LTD practice achieves its strategic aims. Organisations may set
these policies as a set of organisational rules, or as guidance and communicate them to managers
and staff.
Performance management
LTD activities need to be planned for in the same way as other organisational activities, through the
performance management process. Responsibilities will be allocated to line management and HRD
specialists, targets set, and individual performance measured against achievement. This applies to
the HRD function and to line managers who achieve business targets by, amongst other things,
making sure their teams have the right level of capability. Find out more about the performance
management process in our

Comparison Of John Locke And Social Contract Theory
Before sociology was a true discipline of academia, there were philosophical thinkers that thought
about the many complexities that make society into what it is. While there are many different
philosophical thinkers that share different points of view and theories, it is important to see how
they compare and contrast to one another. One of the philosophical thinkers we read about, John
Locke, and his theory about the Natural State and Natural Laws that follow, is a valid yet more
theist approach to social contracttheory. We also looked at the works of Adam Smith, a Scottish
economist who looks at the division of labor in societies and how society has evolved to become
dependent on it. The last thinker that was discussed in lecture and the readings is Harriet
Martineau. Martineau was a British researcher who went to the United States to study many aspects
of American Society, specifically using the sociological lense of conflict theory to help with her
research.
John Locke was a 17th century British philosopher who helped lay the foregrounds for social
contract theory and sociology as a discipline. He believed that men are free in their actions and are,
without the interference of government, living in a state of nature. Locke lays down the basic
principles that greatly influenced the United States Declaration of Independence. The Declaration
of Independence was not only an important document because it declared the United States free
from British rule, but rather

Good Vs Evil Life is neither good or evil, but only a place for good and evil said Marcus
Aurelius. Macduff through this play stars out good but evil overcame him. He followed what
other said and he did what other people what him do. This lead to Macbeth to become evil and his
goodness to start dying out. The things Macbeth did was evilbut inside him there was still the good
Macbeth there, but the evil Macbeth was hiding the good Macbeth. Macbeth is nether good or bad

Toxic Shock Syndrome Research Paper
Toxic shock syndrome is a rare, life threatening complication that is the outcome of certain types of
bacterial infections. It is caused by the release of poisonous substances due to an overgrowth of the
bacteria Streptococcus aureus, or strep, which is found in the bodies of most women. Toxic shock
syndrome has historically been associated primarily with the use of superabsorbent tampons.
However, due to this fact most manufacturers have pulled certain types of tampons off the market;
which has caused the incidence of toxic shock syndromein menstruating women to decline. Toxic
shock syndrome can also affect men, children, and postmenopausal women. Risk factors for toxic
shock syndrome include skin wounds and may even lead to surgery. If there is someone at risk for
toxic shock syndrome they must look out for the symptoms so they can get immediate medical care.

Stock Market and Firm Essay
Background
The Blackstone Group (Blackstone) is a private equity firm founded in 1985 by two former
employees of Lehman Brothers. In May 2007 the firm had $88.4 billion under management and had
grown 41% annually since 2001.
The firm operated in several business groups but distinguished itself from other firms by extensive
collaboration across divisions. It was divided into Corporate Private Equity, Real Estate Funds,
Marketable Alternative Asset Management, Corporate Debt Funds, and Advisory Services.
In 2007 Blackstone started to evaluate the option of taking the firm public. Reasons why the firm
should do an IPO, outlined by the firm s internal project group, included:

Third, to further smooth out potential fluctuations in the share price the firm guarantees a dividend
during the first years after listing.
The fact that the stock market tends to be short term focused further shows the importance of having
the MLP structure. To maintain the long term focus on investments the firm needs to separate the
governance of the firm from the shareholders and the limited voting rights will ensure this.
2.If you were a limited partner in Blackstone, how would you view the structure Blackstone has put
in place to go public?
As a limited partner in Blackstone I would consider the structure as chosen to ensure my interests.
Given the fact that the firm chose to go public for the opportunities that a listing brings, it seems to
be the best way of doing it.
I would be most worried about that the firm would try too much to stabilize the share price and
fulfil the interest of the shareholders by focusing on short term profits. Many of the limited
partners in a private equity fund are pensions funds or similar and do not mind to lock their money
over a longer time period and, by doing so, seek the long term profit that the private equity firm can
offer. I will highlight the two things that make me confident that my interests as a limited partner
will be maintained with the structure that the firm is implementing. First, the structure allows

Marina By Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Finding what we think that we are worth can be a hard thing to do. Many of us think of ourselves
as someone or something that is not worth anything; we constantly put ourselves down in
comparison to other people. By doing this, we are evaluating ourselves on what we think we
should be like, which is called selfdefinition; self definition is basically us grading ourselves
based on our social skills. This story, Marina, written by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, is a story of two
people, one person specifically, who thinks less of himself than he should.
This story is set in the unique city of Barcelona. From what I have read and I heard, I have
gathered that the city is like no other. Its buildings are un predictable, and there is no other building

After this meeting, Oscar decided that he was going to spend his Christmas break with Marina

Oscar decided to take a walk and ended up at the cemetery where he and Marina had first seen
the women in black. When he was there, he saw the glow of a distant lamp through the rain (227).
He jumped over the fence of the cemetery and tried to hide from the coachmen, the person who
held the lamp. But, his attempts failed, and Oscar ended up in the back of the coachmen s carriage.
Oscar rode through the night and then, finally, he arrived at a destination. There, he discovered that

Using Classical And Operant Conditioning
7. Using classical or operant conditioning, describe step by step how you can teach someone a
skill in your field. What is the behavior you want them to learn, if classical conditioning is used,
what is the US, UR, NS, CS and CR. If using operant conditioning, what is the behavior you want
to increase or decrease and what is the reinforcer that is used to increase or decrease that behavior.
(ex., if you are in business and you want to increase productivity, what would you do?). How does
their biology, motivation, cognitions and emotions influence their acquisition of the skill?
Operant conditioning could be used to increase students performance on their tests. One thing that
could be done to reinforce this behavior would be to reward the whole class for increased
performance on their tests with a pizza party. I would just say that if the whole class has an
average of 90% on the test, then they will get a pizza party. They would be more likely to study
and therefore do better on the test because they want the pizza. The students will have to have a
drive to want to get better grade and then the reward of that also. Their emotions have to be
determined to do better, if they are to get the reward that they seek.
8. Identify three strategies you can use to improve your memory and recall. Explain how you plan
to implement them.
Number 1) Rehearsing repeatedly. New memories are weak, exercise them repeatedly and they will
become strong. I plan to implement this strategy by

The Role Of Antisemitism In Early Modern Europe
Having considered anti Jewish sentiment in Early Modern Europe, it is reasonable to look at how
Jews were treated during the Enlightenment period in Germany and whether antisemitism was
evident. During this period, Jews did encounter individuals who demonstrated an acceptance of
them. For instance, Christian Wilhelm Von Dohm was a German scholar who determined that it
was believed that Jewsacted in the way they did because of the circumstances they were put in. He
further argued that any other group of men, under such conditions, would be guilty of identical
errors. Moreover, it is because of these prejudices that prevent [a Jew] from becoming a good
citizen. Therefore, it is apparent that during this time period, some scholars tried

  • 2. Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House Nasrin Pretty Ms. DeMarchi English IV AP UCONN ECE Period 2 October 7, 2015 Ibsen s Perspective on Women The Norwegian playwright and dramatist, Henrik Ibsen, wrote several plays on social drama where he opposed the accepted traditions of the nineteenth century. Some of his most famous plays on society versus women were A Doll s House, Hedda Gabler, and Pillars of Society. Ibsen supported women and feminism, contrary to societal norms by creating strong women in the forms of Nora Helmer, Hedda Tesman, and Lona Hessel from his plays. In A Doll s House, Ibsen introduces the main character, Nora Helmer, as an independent woman in order to present his view on society s belief of how women should be housewives and should focus on their family rather than working. According to Michael Meyer, the character of Nora is a reaction to the denial of the hoary problem of women s rights (Templeton). Nora s character continuously attempts to be independent, rather than being dependent on her husband. She wants to be taken seriously, rather than being a doll in a doll s house, at the disposal of her husband. For example, Nora says to her husband, Torvald, If I m ever to reach any understanding of myself... I must learn to stand alone. That s why I can t stay here with you any longer (Ibsen, A Doll s House 81). By including the dialogue, Ibsen displays how women are strong and should be able to find their own identity without their husbands oppressing them. The last few lines of the ... • 3. Susan B. Anthony And The Abolitionist Movement Susan B. Anthony devoted her life to the rights of women s labor, receiving equal pay, and leading the women s suffrage movement. She grew up in a home where politics was frequently discussed. Her family supported an end to slavery as part of the abolitionist movement. In her early years, she was a teacher and became involved in the temperance movement as well as the anti slavery movement. Because she was a woman, she was not allowed to voice her opinion. This became a motivator for her to become a woman s suffrage leader. A skilled, talented woman made a difference when she joined forces with Stanton. As mentioned earlier, Stanton and Anthony opposed the fourteenth and fifteen amendments for not liberating women. As Mayo states, she published The Revolution, a radical paper, edited by Stanton (1868 1870), and lectured for over six years to pay off its debt. (Rights for Women, para.3) She was arrested for voting in 1872. She led a woman s protest at the 1876 Centennial delivering a Declaration of Rights written by Stanton and Matilda Gage. She wrote and published, with Stanton and Gage the History of Woman Suffrage (1881 1885) (Mayo para. 5). Although she was arrested and it seemed like nothing came easy, she never gave up. Anthony was a hard working woman that rallied many in hopes of advancing women s rights. She gathered signatures on suffrage petitions at the state and national levels, undertook arduous state tours to organize suffrage campaigns in the states ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When answering the phone to those outside of the business, I always make sure to answer the phone as promptly as possible and giving the standard organisational greeting. Depending on what the caller is asking, they should then be directed to either a colleague, a message should be taken down for them, or you may be able to answer their queries yourself. Summarising what you have spoken about or even just taking note of the details of the caller (if answering someone else s phone) will help make sure that everything is accurate show that you are professional and care about accuracy. It is obviously very important to maintain a good standard when speaking to people over the telephone as this can reflect the company itself. If someone has a negative experience with one of the employees they spoke to over the phone, they are less likely to want to become a customer of the company. This is the same when they have a positive experience and can completely influence their decision on working with the organisation or not. At vivid Optical, all employees are expected to treat candidates and clients in the exact same way when talking to them over the phone. When speaking on the phone to those outside of the business, I always make sure to maintain a professional and well mannered personality, even when dealing with difficult callers. • 5. Roosevelt And Wilson Involvement For Progressivism Progressives shared a lot of similar goals and objectives. They especially came in whenever the democratic reforms failed. For instance, where an accepted appeal can be voted into law, referendum which involved the review of the proposed laws or direct election of senators instead of using the normal method of legislation. Progressives always recorded success in pushing of reforms into laws. The explanation for this could be attributed to the high level of education that the progressives hard, consequently being more influential. The initiatives that they pushed became triumphant than the legislative docket (Piott, 2006; Smith, 2012). This paper seek to explore the programs that Roosevelt and Wilson initiated in a bid to advocate for progressivism. Progressivism was powerfully present after Theodore Roosevelt took on power from McKinley, following his assassination in 1901. Roosevelt became the first president to have a linking to the aspect progressivism. He was dubbed a man as a champion of cautious, moderate change. His intent was not to transform the legislation of government, but to create a fair approach in dealing with workers and businessmen. He was marked in history to be the first head of state to have ever arbitrated a labor dispute without defending the employers (Smith, 2012). • 6. Prostitution And Its Effect On Society Essay For a free society to keep violent crime to a minimum with little disturbance on individual liberty, government should, alongside prosecuting victimless crimes, minimize the opportunity for the corrupt to create victims. Prostitution has been practiced in all ancient and modern cultures. In the United States, prostitutionwas originally widely legal. Prostitution was made illegal in almost all states between 1910 and 1915 due to the influence of the Woman s Christian Temperance Union which was influential in the banning of drug use and was a major force in the prohibition of alcohol. In 1917 the legally defined prostitution district Storyville in New Orleans was closed down by the Federal government over local objections. In Deadwood, South Dakota, prostitution, while technically illegal, was tolerated by local residents and officials for decades until the last madam was brought down by state and federal authorities for tax evasion in 1980 (Weitzer). Prostitution remained legal in Alaska until 1953, and is still legal in some rural counties of Nevada, including areas outside of Las Vegas. Prostitution is the provision of sexual services for a negotiated payment between consenting adults. Prostitution is a service industry like any other in which people exchange services for money or other reward. No person s human or civil rights should be violated on the basis of their trade, occupation, work, calling or profession. Additionally, no law has ever succeeded in ... • 8. Literary Interpretation In The Birth-Mark The Birth Mark is a story about a husband, Aylmer, who looks at his wife, Georgiana, as imperfection, due to the mark on her left cheek. The setting of the story was based in the late 1700s, between the laboratory and a boudoir. In the story, a lot of detail goes into the laboratory and the boudoir that help characterize them and help give the overall metaphor at the end of the story. The details of both places show the effort Georgiana is going through to satisfy Aylmer. It also helps one visualize what setting they are in, also, how it disturbs the project at hand. If one were to be an allegorical reader, it would present the ruin Aylmer is putting Georgiana through. In the story, figurative speech supports the setting by specifying what the places are and where they occur. The lab was classified as depressing, gloomy, and dark while Georgiana s boudoir is bright and airy. The mood setting of a place is figurative speech. The central metaphor of the story is the name given to it, The Birth Mark. Georgiana was not only beautiful but she had a birthmark on her which makes her stands of from other girls. It makes her unique in some ways. The one person who not wanting to accept this mark on her face is Aylmer, he husband. Half of the time these people will be within eyesight of an animal, do you ever wonder what they think we are doing? Just imagine, what if your dog or cat have ever wondered what it would be life to take a selfie. Well one animal did, Naruto the monkey picked up the camera of a photographer and snapped a selfie. This led to a big controversy, people were arguing that the selfie copyright belonged to Naruto, others said it belonged to the photographer, and lastly people said it belonged in the public domain. Even though it s said the photo should go in the public domain, the photographer should hold the monkey selfie copyright because Naruto is an animal and Naruto will not benefit from owning the copyright. The copyright to the monkey selfie should go to David Slater. Slater said that he spent about ВЈ2,000 on the trip where the incident, which got him the monkey selfie, happened. Photographers take thousands of pictures hoping to capture one or more photos that will bring them some income. • 11. Analysis Of The Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy I have talked before about coming from a simple life. That could be a slight understatement as I have never previously attended a ballet, and when the question, Surely, you ve all heard of Tchaikovsky, right? was posed I struggled to recognize the name or any significance to my life. It was not until I heard the musical number of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy that the gears of my mind finally associated it with memory. While the first few notes of the celesta filled the room with carefree delight, I was transported back to the cold, laminated floor of my farmhouse bedroom. Sitting on the gaily colored rug in the middle of my six feet by seven feet small expanse of space, I remember holding my china ballerina/music box so gently. The object itself is about twenty inches tall. It is a beautiful ballerina in a lavender tutu with matching slippers and a delicate crown of flowers in her hair. The ballerina is perched upon a white cylinder, almost reminiscent of a cake topper, that is embellished with glitter and flowers and all of the pretty works. When the key is turned, the melody flows angelically through my small room, and I feel as if I am not longer present instead, I am swept away to a wonderous, snowy world with enchanting dancers. My only connection to Tchaikovsky let alone The Nutcrackeris a ballerina figurine that I left back home. I did not have a clue what to expect, but I could barely contain my excitement. My son loved playing with the hose and spraying the larger dinosaurs off the block of ice. It was a prehistoric slip and slide. We made a game of that for a while. We talked about how ice is cold and is made of frozen water. My son would say Brrr every time we used the word cold . We showed him how the water melted the ice and he got into that as well. Then we referred to the bigger dino s as the mama s and dada s and the smaller dinosaurs as the babies. He repeated after us and would call them Mama, Dada, Baby accordingly. • 13. Literary Analysis Of Mirror By Sylvia Plath Some poems are exuberant, while, sometimes poems can be a cry of the heart. Written in 1961, Mirror by Sylvia Plath is an emotional poem, successfully personified and narrated through a mirrors point of view. Plath was an American literature figure that wrote poems, novels and several short stories. During her life time, it was always noted that she was chronically gerontophobic, which is the fear of growing old. Plath s poem represents a woman grappling with the reality of ageing and fear losing her beauty. Plath unfolds...... Through the use of several different literary terms. Plath s poem is written in stanzaic form of two stanzas each consisting of nine lines. The double stanzaof the poem can be interpreted as catoptric, since the poem is describing the reflections, while also describing its own image. Likewise, both stanzas are equal in length to reflect each other, in that they both have little to no sign of rhyme or rhythm, otherwise known as a free verse poem. The structure of Plath s poem perhaps can serve to reflect the extended figure, for like the woman in this poem we too are entranced by the product of its general simplicity. As Plath s poem shows no evidence of stressed and unstressed syllable patterns or even complicated diction, the poem is written in such a way that, when spoken, it naturally and exquisitely roles of the tongue. As a rhythm booster Plath takes advantage of adding in phrases such as over and over and comes and goes, and in doing this attracts attention to the sound of the word which in turn adds rhythm and flavor. In the beginning of the poem, the speaker starts out to seem young and optimistic, seeing things exactly how they look on the surface, although it does not judge what if feels or sees. The poem opens by describing a graven image of the speaker, silver and exact (line 1), in which the poet felt compelled to immediately certify the speaker. By line 5, the speaker becomes somewhat egotistical, calling itself the eye of a little god. This line displays the mirrorsgod like powers over the woman looking into the mirror, as she feels eager to acquire a perfect reflectionof herself. The power of the mirror is so intnse that is causs the woman to turn to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether it s an article in Forbes entitled Why Demographic Trends Spell Trouble For China And Russia And Prosperity For US predicting a prosperous economy for the United State and Canada in 2035 (Preston, 2015) or the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg at the F8 2016 Conference unveiling his roadmap on what Facebook would look like in 10 years (Buxton, 2016). Both are examples of predictionthat use different forecast techniques to predict a future outcome. The article from Forbes, predicts a possible future due to demographic trends, whereas, Mark Zuckerberg forecasts a preferably or probable future due to advancements in technology. However, there are number of different forecastingtechniques that are used today in business, government, and military to predict future outcomes. This paper looks at the different techniques for forecasting the future and how some futurists use these different techniques for predicting future trends, technologies, and events. Forecasting Methods First it must be noted, that no forecasting technique can be certain, however, they can come close to a possible, preferable, or probable future. Second, the further into the future the predictions the higher the uncertainty of the forecast (Gordon, 2009). The reason for greater uncertainty is the possible of a wild card or black swam event happening that would be a total surprise and have a major effect on the long term ... The recipe calls for leeks, butter, potatoes, salt, white pepper, vegetable broth, heavy cream, buttermilk, and a handful of chives for garnish. Start off by roughly chopping one pound of leeks into small pieces. They should be around a half an inch in width. While the leeks are being chopped, set the stovetop to medium heat. Primary prevention would be preventing a disease or injury before it occurs. This could be done with the use of education and legislation on safety and health practices. Secondary prevention would be reducing the impact of the disease or injury that has occurred. This could be accomplished by early detection and health screenings. Lastly the tertiary prevention would be used to alleviate the impact of ongoing illness or an injury that has lasting effects. This would be accomplished by helping to manage chronic and complex diseases/conditions and permanent disabilities. This would help improve quality of life and life expectancy. One condition, while not a leading cause of death, but on the rise in the Hispanic community is the high incidence of HIV. The incidence rate is 3 time higher for Hispanics than white Americans. In 2013 the HIV rate in Hispanics counted as 23% of all new infections. Hispanic males were 85% of these new infections. ( CDC, 2015) Primary

As my personal journey into this experiment is laid out the conclusion will become clear. Through removing forms of mass mediasuch as radio, television, internet and newspapers I have learned that indeed mass media is not easy to get away from, and it has a deep impact on mood, response, and critical thought processes. Through a 48 hour period, I consciously chose to remove all mass media influence, such as social media, television, radio and recorded music, and in doing thus have come to some rather startling conclusions about the severe and often silent effect that mass media can have on our lives. This was a rather difficult task as most people never take the time to consider where and how mass media influences our daily lives, and how deep the impact can be. The escape from radio is difficult, the desire to lose oneself in television after a hard day is overwhelming and the sheer amount that we rely on social media is harder still to understand unless you do without it for a lengthy period. While staying clear of these forms of obvious mass media such as overt advertisements, or Facebook seemed easy enough, though one can never be prepared to cope with the interruption of the thought processes and mood changes that accompany this ... As far as citizens recording police, there is still much disagreement about how it should be handled (Marcou). Nowhere in the constitution does it say the citizens cannot film stuff that is happening outside their house. When it comes to training, officers are told have your camera going at all times. A professional police officer has nothing to fear from being recorded and always act as if you are being recorded, because in today s world you probably are (Marcou). This prison was located on Alcatraz Island, which was in the San Francisco Bay. It was housed on this island so the prisoners would not be tempted to escape. This prison was shut down because of the high costs to keep it running. Although many prisoners attempted to escape, the prison claimed that all of them failed at it. Alcatraz was set apart and on an island, it was greatly guarded because it once was a fort, and the inmates were only allowed outside for one hour each day. Attempting to escape Alcatraz without a ride was extremely difficult. The water was really cold, and it was hard to attempt swimming away without getting spotted.... The prison reported that they drowned in their attempt to cross the bay, but there has never been any evidence to prove this theory. This attempt was in June of 1962, just a nine months before the prison closed its doors. These prisoners escaped by crawling through a hole they dug in the walls of the prison, and climbed up onto the roof. They used paper mache look alike heads and placed them in their bunks to buy them time to escape. Supposedly, the men made a makeshift raft and paddles to cross the bay. Since then the three men haven t been found. Altogether, Alcatraz Penitentiary was a pretty tough prison to escape, and maybe that is why the government placed the worse criminals there. Out of thirty six men who attempted to escape, only three went without being captured. Over fifty years after its closing, Alcatraz is still the most infamous prison of this country. This prison is so popular that it receives over 1.3 million visitors each year, and it s one of San Francisco s biggest tourist attractions. Elinor would not contend, and only replied, Whoever may have been so detestably your enemy, let them be cheated of their malignant triumph, my dear sister, by seeing how nobly the consciousness of your own innocence and good intentions supports your spirits. But more often than not, teenagers are not fully able to grasp the sense of maturity and consequence in every day life, much less out in the real world. In order to keep them safe and away from harm, a curfew is a perfect wall for teens to stay behind. This immaturity can sometimes be so high, they simply refuse to take the fall for the decisions they made; some fail to realize that, in real life, everyone must take the good with the bad, not solely claim the benefits. This fragile flaw can very much prove fatal, so a curfew can very much save young citizens from themselves. Many television shows and movies are known to give a young character an episode or scene about him or her, and it often runs down the same road; the child or teen does something reckless or idiotic, they try extremely hard to fix it (but it often makes things worse), and when they fail, they must face the consequences. A well known example is from the hit Cartoon Network show The Amazing world or Gumball, where the main character Gumball causes trouble with little or no intention. In one specific episode, Gumball accidentally damages a rented DVD, and when he tries to fix it, he ends up breaking it. Since the mid 1980 s there has been a paradigm shift in law enforcement from the military policing model to the community oriented policing model (Breci Erickson, 1998; Pliant, 1998; Rosenbaum Yeh, 1994; Thayer Reynolds, 1997; Varricchio, 1998). In the military model, police react to events in the community (Thayer Reynolds, 1997). Community problems filter up the chain of command and solutions filter their way back down. Policerespond when a crime is committed. There is little contact with the members of the community until the crime has already happened. Therefore, contact with the public tends to be through negative situations such as getting a ticket, having a house searched, or bailing a friend or family member out of jail... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There must be a commitment on the part of city leaders and police administration. A department wide strategy must be in place to carry out the community oriented policing program. Finally, all personnel in the department, including civilian employees, must be educated on the philosophy of community policing. Law enforcement s transition away from a militaristic tradition that presented an us vs. them relationship with the community will be a difficult process. A shift in educational philosophy will be required to make this transition. To effectively train today s law enforcement officers there must be a move away from the Behaviorist philosophy of education in which the teacher feeds knowledge to a dependant learner and then the learner is expected to reproduce the knowledge in some clearly observable behavioral outcome (Ramirez, 1996; Elias Merriam, 1995). To realistically educate all personnel in the organization and make the transition, the educational philosophy of the department should be compatible with the community policing approach. Educational philosophies can be viewed along a continuum. Philosophical positions fall along this continuum depending on how one views the importance of the individual and society and the involvement of the learner in the education process. | | | | | Radical ... • 46. Comparison Of John Locke And Social Contract Theory Before sociology was a true discipline of academia, there were philosophical thinkers that thought about the many complexities that make society into what it is. While there are many different philosophical thinkers that share different points of view and theories, it is important to see how they compare and contrast to one another. One of the philosophical thinkers we read about, John Locke, and his theory about the Natural State and Natural Laws that follow, is a valid yet more theist approach to social contracttheory. We also looked at the works of Adam Smith, a Scottish economist who looks at the division of labor in societies and how society has evolved to become dependent on it. The last thinker that was discussed in lecture and the readings is Harriet Martineau. Martineau was a British researcher who went to the United States to study many aspects of American Society, specifically using the sociological lense of conflict theory to help with her research. John Locke was a 17th century British philosopher who helped lay the foregrounds for social contract theory and sociology as a discipline. He believed that men are free in their actions and are, without the interference of government, living in a state of nature. Locke lays down the basic principles that greatly influenced the United States Declaration of Independence. The fact that the stock market tends to be short term focused further shows the importance of having the MLP structure. As a limited partner in Blackstone I would consider the structure as chosen to ensure my interests. Given the fact that the firm chose to go public for the opportunities that a listing brings, it seems to be the best way of doing it. I would be most worried about that the firm would try too much to stabilize the share price and fulfil the interest of the shareholders by focusing on short term profits. Many of the limited partners in a private equity fund are pensions funds or similar and do not mind to lock their money over a longer time period and, by doing so, seek the long term profit that the private equity firm can offer. What is the behavior you want them to learn, if classical conditioning is used, what is the US, UR, NS, CS and CR. If using operant conditioning, what is the behavior you want to increase or decrease and what is the reinforcer that is used to increase or decrease that behavior. (ex., if you are in business and you want to increase productivity, what would you do?). How does their biology, motivation, cognitions and emotions influence their acquisition of the skill? Operant conditioning could be used to increase students performance on their tests. One thing that could be done to reinforce this behavior would be to reward the whole class for increased performance on their tests with a pizza party. I would just say that if the whole class has an average of 90% on the test, then they will get a pizza party. They would be more likely to study and therefore do better on the test because they want the pizza. The students will have to have a drive to want to get better grade and then the reward of that also. Their emotions have to be determined to do better, if they are to get the reward that they seek. 8. Identify three strategies you can use to improve your memory and recall.
