Working Title: Drill
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the Audience Classifications
PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section.
Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to content (why would your product
appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the gender? Etc.)
Age; 14-24
Gender; male majority however may appeal to females as well
Social status; people who are surrounding by individuals who also enjoy the genre, young age dynamic, lower end of the
social chain however this does not completely apply, wealthier more well-off people may also be interested in drill and the
dynamics around it as well as he individuals who make the music,
Psychographic; the general psychographic of people who are interested in the genre are those who believe that the system is
flawed and corrupt, those who want to rebel as well as those who are surrounded by individuals who are associated with things
like “gangs” and are likely to be involved in the consumption and movement of illegal narcotics judging purely by the lyrical
content within drill songs, which has been used against drill rappers in court before with the most notable case of this being
with young dizz. obviously a lot of artists who create music within the genre are often people who have been involved in this
kind of behaviour and that really echoes around the community that they are appealing to, they often brag about things they’ve
done in the past in their songs which leads to un wanted attention from law enforcement as well as other gangs, it isn’t a
coincidence that a lot of the supposed founding fathers of drill have ended up in prison or worst case s cenario, dead. Because
of the violent nature in and around the genre. I think it appeals to a lot of people who have grown up been around others who
do things like smoke weed, go out partying all the time and because of how easily influenced young children are especially
when they get to their teenage years, they can often get caught up in similar things to those around them. I think what kind of
things you get up to and style of music you get a taste for really does rely on who you surround yourself with.
The types of people that the genre appeals to most are both achievers and emulators, whereas achievers are those who go
after wealth and power however is not always achieved on ways suitable in the eyes of the law, these kinds of people are
hungry for success and want to rise to the top of their field. Those who are emulators want to be perceived as something they
are not necessarily, this is often due to them wanting attention of those of the opposite sex whilst also looking powerful and
dominant to those around them, these kind of people put up walls and show different sides of themselves to different people, it
is often easy to see who is an achiever and who is an emulator on the way they behave, achievers keep to themselves, have a
small group of very close friends around them and keep what’s going on in and around their life very private as they are only
concerned about themselves. Emulators however are the ones who want to appear the best and are a bit of a show off to those
around them and people in general, they appear confident in their abilities. These kinds of people are often the ones who
constantly post on Instagram and seek attention from the opposite sex.
The music industry in general is completely based on showing off and perceiving yourself as something you may not
necessarily be, you will often see that a lot of lyrics and themes on songs are based around the idea of having the best
designer gear and the best lifestyle possible, however in this industry it is very much a case of fake it till you make it, because
realistically the people who are bragging about expensive clothes and lifestyle are living a fake life which they perceive to the
listeners.

Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Review your progress throughout the year- what video game and Photoshop skills and knowledge have you acquired? How will
you use those skills?
What was your advergame and how will it have a direct impact upon your project?
At the start of the year I had no prior experience on editing software’s such as premiere pro, photoshop, garage band or any
other adobe application. Over the course of the year I have developed my skills in all of these fields and feel a lot more
confident within my abilities to creatively edit content. Premiere pro is what I have progressed the most on due to the use of the
software on the music video project, this project has definitely been the most interesting and engaging for me, I believe also it
was the most challenging due to having to having a high volume of tasks to complete that pushed me. I liked the idea of doing
my own production and am really looking forward to doing another one because I have developed a lot more ideas that I plan
to implement in my final production. I think now because I have already had practise at doing a music video my next attempt
will be ten times better all the way from the planning itself to the production as a whole. Editing wise within premiere I know
some techniques such as applying downloaded effects, use of green screen and how to change colour to create interesting
visuals. I think I now know how a video should be put together now and will learn from the mistakes and the positives from the
practise run.
The audio project was different, whilst I did enjoy this task, I thought that it wasn’t as engaging as the previous music video
project, I learned how to edit sound whilst implementing a story line, I chose to create a horror soundscape which was
successful in my own opinion.
I am now doing print which I am finding a lot more engaging than the previous audio project and am currently working on
producing a drill/uk rap music magazine.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make?
What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project?
I intend to create a magazine that is focused around drill/ uk rap, this would be to my knowledge the first of its kind in terms of
magazines for this genre of uk music. The idea I have is to create a fake persona that is a “rising star” in the uk music scene
and will be creating a front cover using pictures I will off taken myself. I plan to write an article about the new artist and his
quick rise to fame within the industry and culture. the article will be laid out in columns to appear like a real magazine whilst
looking professional. for the background I intend to use layers to create a gritty feel to represent the music as a whole. The
background for my front cover is likely to be an image of a recording studio that I will add motion blur to as well as adding a
grainy overlay to give off a gritty feel and represent conventions of the genre. on top of this will be an image of the fake rapper I
have created I may include well known artists as well to make it look like the fake rapper belongs in the same bracket. In the
article I will also be talking about what 2020 has in store for the genre and information on various uk drill artists. The double
page spread is where majority of the information will be for this whilst there will be things like rhetorical questions on the cover
to interest the reader and indulge them into my work. Because of the roots of drill primarily are in London I may use a
background of a London street blured out with grainy overlay on top to maintain the gritty feel. The double page spread will
consist of an article focused around the fake persona I have created and will talk about his plans for 2020 and how he has
handled the rise to fame.

Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation (Production Reflections) and your final self-
reflection (Evaluation), analysing your work and its outcomes.
How will this process help developing your working practices as you continue with your study/media career?
I will look at my work from the perspective that it isn’t my work thus in a way like I was looking at someone else’s, I will be
straight up in my evaluation and will say both the positives and negatives to my project and where improvements can be made,
I will reflect on where it went wrong and how I got around the issues and how I intend to move forward in other work by
improving through my mistakes made.
