Audience:
The audience I am attempting to target is teenagers ages 15-19.This is because Ifeel that they are most
likely to engage in a music magazine.Myself being in between these ages gives me an insightinto what
teenagers maywantto see on the front cover and inside the magazine.The gender of the audience is going
to be more male however women who are into hip-hop will be targeted.I am looking at around 80% male and
20% female.I have chosen to target the male demographic more because hip-hop and rap are heavily
associated with the male audience. Another reason in which my magazine is targeted towards men is
because mostrappers are ofthe male sex. One way I am going to appeal to this audience is by including
colours with male connotations.Another way I will do this is to include rappers on mycover or inside which
have a large male fan base.The social status for my magazine is going to be middle class.Ihave chosen this
social status to target due to mostmusic magazines targeting this.The reason itis not higher class is
because hip-hop and rap can be seen as quite a rough genre and they perhaps don’twantto be involved and
associate with thatgenre.The reason Iam not targeting lower class people is because mymagazine will be
weekly and will approximatelybe around 2 pound,however this is not a huge amountof moneylower class
people maychose to spend their moneyon other things.To appeal to the middle class people Iwill include
quite informal language and make sure thatI include urban text due to it being a rap magazine.The
psychographic Iam trying to target is an achiever, this is because overall rappers and musicians are very
confidentand want to achieve the bestthey can do. This does notmean that my magazine is going to make
people wantto become famous however I do think that musicians or people who are into hip-hop will be more
confident. To appeal to this physiographic I will include confidentlanguage as well as rappers who theymay
aspire to be. These will be people like Drake and Kanye West.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Throughoutthe year I feel I have made quite a lot of progress.This progress being the new skills Ihave learnt
on programs such as adobe Photoshop and premier.The skills Ihave learnton Photoshop this year are quite
basic however there are some more advanced skills,which I have learntfrom videos on YouTube. These
basic skills being for example adding a stroke,adding a shadow behind objects and text and also being able
to edit pictures with the patch and plaster tool. This skill will be used in my final product. The skill such as
adding a stroke or adding a shadow will mostlikelybe used to make the objector text stand out, this is very
useful in magazines as you want to draw attention to the feature to target audience.Some more advanced
skills such as lighting effects are also very useful.This is because Imay choose to use them when editing my
pictures for my front cover. These lighting effects can enhance the picture to look higher quality and more
professional.These lighting effects also make the picture or text stand out on the background.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept for my magazine is to achieve a double page spread and front cover, which is about
music. My magazine will be targeted at the male and teen demographic. For my magazine I am
going to include the typical conventions, which are included within magazines. One thing I will
include is a big masthead; I will include this because this is very common on a magazine. This will
also alert the audience what the magazine is called. If the name of the masthead is music related
by this I mean has connotations of music the audience will know that this is a music magazine. I
will also include a main image of a rapper for the same reason. On my magazine cover and my
double page spread I will also include a coloured background. This background will most likely be
linked to something else on the magazine for example a piece of clothing, the colour will also most
likely have male connotations because this magazine is targeted at the male demographic.in both
of my production pieces I will also headings, article and also stars and blobs. The main purpose for
my magazine is to interest the audience. Including words such as exclusive, free and other words,
which will interest the audience, will do this. These will interest the audience, as they will want to
know what is either free or exclusive. These words makes the audience question who what when
where and why. The research I will have to conduct will be similar to the last time I did a similar
project. The research would be myself looking at existing magazine covers and existing double
page spreads. This will give me an idea of what the conventions are. This research will also show
me what effects are typically used and how they are targeting their audience. I will get an idea of
the target audience when I look at the colours, masthead and also the language used, for example
if it is very informal they will be targeting a younger demographic.

Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
To evaluate my work I will look at my finished product and put it along side existing products. I will
do this to compare my. The things I will compare are things like the appeal of the product, how
professional it looks and also the technical qualities. When I come to evaluate my work I will also
look at how well I have appealed to my target audience and what elements I have included which
appeal to them. The final thing I will do to evaluate my work is to take screenshots of my progress
and annotate what I have done and why have I done it.
