The Bicycle Thief
In this paper I will be talking about the film The Bicycle Thief s by director Vittorio DeSica. In this
film he makes it clear that there are problems with the main character that extends to the greater
population of post War Rome. I will be covering how director Desica makes the film s narrative and
use of mise en scene.
At this time in the film and in real life everyone is struggling to find a job and money. Antonio Ricci
was offered a job but needs a bicycle in order to have the job. Others in this scene of the movie have a
bicycle and want the job. A gentlemen in the crowd ask the guy offering job if he wants them to rot.
They do not have money for a bicycle so they sell sheets to get a bicycle. A way that this film first

The Lasting Effect Of Adolf Hitler And The Holocaust
Many religious conflicts are built from prejudice. However, only few will have a lasting effect on the
world s history. In Germany in the year 1933, a man named Adolf Hitler rose to power. His mission
would be to exterminate all minorities, but most importantly, the Jews. Holocaust is a word of Greek
origin meaning sacrifice by fire . But as we now know in history, the Holocaust was the genocide of
six million Jews by Hitler and the Nazi regime. Over the time of Hitler s reign, the Jewish population
would be stripped of their rights, dignity, and most preciously their lives.
At the end of WWI, Germany was directly blamed for causing the great conflict. Many Germans could
not accept this blame, and believed designed by the Jewish people as part of a greater conspiracy.
Adolf Hitler was appointed chancellor of Germany on January 30, 1933. The Nazi rise to power ended
the Weimar Republic, the German democracy that was established after World War I. The Nazi state,
also called The Third Reich, quickly became a regime in which citizens had no guaranteed basic
rights. Hitler s first objective was to eliminate political opposition. The assault against the Jews began
with a boycott of Jewish businesses. A week later the Nazis dismissed Jews from civil service, and by
the end of the month the participation of Jews in German schools was restricted. In May 1933,
thousands of Nazi students and professors stormed university libraries and bookstores in cities
throughout Germany to

Montresor Revenge Essay
In the story, The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe, Montresor is seeking revenge against
Fortunato who has insulted him and his family, and this drive for revenge is reflected in Montresor s
family coat of arms and motto. This motive of revenge is established at the beginning of the story
when Montresor says, THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he
ventured upon insult I vowed revenge. Poe uses every move and word spoken by Montresor to
reinforce the idea of revenge. Even as Montresor is cordial to Fortunato when they meet at the
carnival, the reader knows Montresor is putting on an act to gain Fortunato s confidence to bring about
his revenge. Montresor greets Fortunato by saying, My dear Fortunato,

Oh, The Shark Has Pretty Teeth Dear and He Show s em, Pearly White When the image of a vampire
is brought to mind one imagines a tall, thin and pale European aristocratic man dressed in fine clothes
and displaying a set of pearly white fangs. However neither the aristocratic status nor the fangs can be
found in folkloric accounts of vampirism. The true image of a vampire is a difficult thing to describe
due to the influence that different cultures have had on the development of the myth. The depiction of
vampirism in Bram Stoker s Dracula and Richard Matheson s I Am Legend differ from one another
and while these depictions stray from the folkloric accounts of vampires both find their roots in
legend. The folkloric vampire has taken many different forms and has held a variety of traits, skills
and weaknesses; each mirroring the customs, beliefs, and fears of different cultures (Bartlett 1). I can
be difficult to find one all encompassing description of a vampire due to the myths discrepancy among
cultures. Vampire myths and legends exist in many cultures spanning the globe. Each has its own
beliefs in regards to the creation, appearance, abilities, and extermination of vampires. In Vampirism
as Mental Illness: Myth, Madness and the Loss of Meaning in Psychiatry blood is described as being
an essential source of life and vitality (MacSuibhne). Blood has a crucial role in the maintenance of

Non Profit Organization Analysis And Financial Evaluation
There are many indexes regarding non profit organization analysis, and financial evaluation focus on
below aspects.
Financial Management
The foundation maintained a total revenue of 64 million, and a total expense of 77 million, which
meant the foundation was a mid sized non profit organization.
Based on the given financial data, and the foundation s previous IRS 990 filings, the foundation ended
in negative for the year of 2012 as 8 million, but they recovered in 2013 with a black ending of 47
million, however they ended at 48 million which was still a negative result for the organization. This
alarming situation showed the deficient ability of the foundation to prepare its budget.
Data of 2014
(Form 990 PF 2014)
Data of 2013
(Form 990 PF 2013)
Data of 2012
(Form 990 PF 2012)
As shown in the Form 990 PF for the past 3 years, the foundation managed positive cash reserves as
its total liabilities and net assets/fund balances were positive. The foundation was in relatively good
financial position during the 3 years.
During the year of 2014, total net assets or fund balances reduced from 72 million to 17 million. A
lower fund balances means the organization is efficiently in employing its resources to the mission
related work. The data showed the foundation was probably more actively spending its cash on their
mission in 2014 than in 2013.

The Third Wave Feminism
There are three waves of feminism. The first wave (1830 s early 1900 s) emphasized on legal issues
and gaining political power including the right to vote to bring gender equality. The second wave
(1960 s 1980 s) stressed on broadening the discussions to a wider range. They focused on the work
place, sexuality, family, reproductive rights, domestic violence and marital rape issues. The third wave
(1900 s present) expands the topic of feminism to include women with varied identities and a response
to the failures of movements by second wave feminism. Rebecca Walker coined the term third wave
feminism in an essay Becoming the Third Wave (1992). In the introduction to idea of third wave
feminism in Manifesta authors Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards suggest that feminism can
change with every generation and individual. Feminists have long criticised the institution of
marriage. They stated that marriage leads to oppression of women and their rights curtailed. The
gender inequality is judged from the fact that mostly women take up domestic and caring work and
they get paid less than men for outside work. Traditionally, all men give speech and the women
surrender her name to take her husband s name. As a high profile couple, Jean Paul Sartre and Simone
de Beauvoir always expressed opposition to marriage. Brian Sawyer in his post published in
November 2003 wrote Marriage, understood existentially, proposes to join two free selves into one

Access Controls Provide A Mechanism
Introduction
Access Controls provide a mechanism, which allows an administrator to ensure that appropriate
techniques are in place to control how users interact with an IT system. It provides an avenue where
restrictions can be developed, specifying what a user can do, the resources they can access, and the
functions they can execute on a system. It is aligned with the three main security principles;
confidentiality, integrity and availability. This alignment ensures that data and resources within an IT
system will remain confidential as required, the structure will remain intact and these objects will
remain available, so as not to diminish the functionality of the system. Access controls that are
incorporated into a security plan are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the difficulties in managing this access arises from the need to provide a variety of user s
access, each requiring a different type of access to the system. For the sake of security, the need to
manage this access should be defined by one or more of the following frameworks; Role Based
Access Control (RBAC), Discretionary Access Controls (DAC), Mandatory Access Control (MAC),
and Mandatory Access Control (MAC).
Statement of Purpose
The current state of the organization s access control management system is consistent with that of the
DAC model. A recent move to outsource certain business practices and continued organizational
growth has created an environment where increases in employee hiring s and employee turnover are
inevitable. An analysis of various methods of access control has been requested, so that we can better
understand how specific access control attacks are perpetrated and their origin. Information will be
collected and then analyzed in order to substantiate any recommended changes to the current access
control configurations. RBAC, DAC, and MAC will be compared and contrasted, in order to gain
insight, as to how each plays a role in reducing the risk to a system, along with identifying the
strengths and weaknesses of each. These results, along with a detailed recommendation will be
presented to executive management, in order to generate the necessary support for altering the current
program

Teen Suicide And Suicide
Recent studies have shown a rise in both teen suicides and self harm among adolescent girls. Suicide
among adolescent girls may occur as a result of mental disorders, drug misuse, cultural, family and
social situations, genetics, and most of all, cyberbullying (Ehmke). Based on a 2015 study, about 20%
of adolescent girls in the U.S. consider suicide and between 5% and 8% of them attempt suicide each
year (Ehmke). In 2014 alone, 150 girls out of 10 million, between the ages of ten and fourteen,
committed suicide due to cyberbullying among other related factors (Graham). Medical experts warn
that excessive social media and smartphone use may lead to cyberbullying. Most victims of
cyberbullying often experience a great deal of stress and anxiety leading to suicidal ideation (Ehmke).
An analysis by Jean Twenge, in The Atlantic, confirms that cyberbullying is more strongly related to
suicidal thoughts in adolescents than traditional bullying (Twenge). Some estimates suggest that
depending on the country of origin between 5% and 20% of adolescent girls are victims of physical,
verbal or exclusion based bullying, while 15% to 30% of them are victims of cyberbullying (Twenge).
The relationship between cyberbullying and suicide has only been explored in a few studies, but Jean
Twenge s analysis strongly suggests that cyberbullying is a major risk factor for suicide ideation in
adolescent girls (Twenge).
The new analysis by Jean Twenge tests this evidence by reviewing all

Essay Risk Management Issue
Risk management is the most important part of any organization to face the risks that might arise
when a new project started. It should be a first concern when the decision is being made. Risk
management is the practice of looking at the exposure to risk and deciding how to best handle that
exposure. The idea behind risk management is to decide if the benefit outweighs the risk. This process
will help you to identify risks that might normally be overlooked so when things come up, they do not
surprise you by having a plan in place on how to solve them.
Risk management would help to identify and then manage threats that could severely impact or bring
down the organization. This could be done by reviewing operations of the organization, ... Show more

to protect residents from threats within the facility, measures to protect residents who cannot protect
themselves or are a danger to themselves, and measures to protect caregivers and loved ones.
LTC facility could protect residents from the dangers of the outside world by having adequate controls
securing the perimeter and managing access to buildings and grounds. It is important to find out
geographical risks and area s crime trends. The grounds assessment should include existing lighting,
fencing, landscaping, and natural surveillance. LTC could also protect their residents by using interior
patrols, front desk management, sing in, and badging.
Elements to consider when assessing threats within LTC environment include current employee
recruitment processes, screening, and background checks, and supervision of employees. The demand
for entry level resident care and custodial workers is high. Staff turnover in these jobs is also high, and
some organizations have chosen to reduce costs by cutting back on references checks that provide
vitally important information about potential employees. These organizations could be under negative
publicity when incidents or accidents occur.
Another concern is the treat that residents may pose to one another. This issue could be addressed by
patient background screening program similar to employee preemployment screening.

My Life With A Good Guy Who Catches The Bad Guys
When I was young I would love to run around with my childhood friends and pretend that we are
cops. While some of our friend are the bad guys. I always enjoy playing as the good guy who catches
the bad guys. I made a very good leader in the group, I told them the plan and how we are going to get
the bad guys. I never did like Barbie dolls, I was always into boys toys when I was younger. My
freshman year of high school I ve thought about joining the military because of all the benefits and
how much money I could make. My father wanted all of his children to join the military, I never really
knew exactly why but I guess if you are a military parent it ll make you proud. I then fell in love with
basketball, but I thought I was too short for it. When I graduated high school I did not know what I
wanted to be and how I am going to live my adult life. I did not know what to take for college or what
I want to major on. I was a big procrastinator and such a lazy person; I gain weight because all I do is
eat, school, and sleep. As I realized that my life started to drift off from success, something pop up in
my head that I needed to pull myself together. The first thing that I had in mind is how am I going to
pay my loan from school after I graduate. I could barely put gas in my car, what more if I had bills to
pay. I did not want to become homeless and to be struggling throughout my whole life. Then it finally
hit me, why not try to join the military? I did wanted to be active

How Is Offred Presented In The Handmaid s Tale
Offred Offred is the protagonist and narrator of the The Handmaid s Tale . As one of the rare fertile
women in this dystopian world, she is put at the bottom of the social hierarchy as a Handmaid, where
her sole purpose is to provide children for the Commander and his Wife. Despite being the
protagonist, Offred is a passive character who generally conforms to the social stereotypes in Gilead
due to her cowardice. Despite this, there are some moments where the reader is able to acknowledge
the degree of power she holds within this society. According to critic Coral Ann Howells, those at the
bottom don t have power , yet Carol L. Beran argues that they have some kind of special power , and
indeed, Offred is not completely powerless in Gileadean society. All women in Gilead have a
modicum of power, and Offred is no exception. She gains her power through her biology and
sexuality, because men in Gilead are not allowed a woman until they become an Angel, a high position
in the social hierarchy. Offred s power is often hidden or oppressed by the system the Sons of Jacob
have created. This is seen when Offred says doubled, I walk down the street (Atwood) when
recounting the experience of shopping with her partner, Ofglen. Here, Offred is literally doubled due
to Ofglen walking alongside her in identical clothing, which could suggest the lack of power due to
the loss of identity. This also illustrates how the Sons of Jacob attempt women from using their power
by using them as

60 s Gender Roles
The sixties was an evolutionary era with a new variety of movies, tv shows and books. The 60 s
revolutionised the way that people thought about movies and television and has inspired our favourite
shows and movies today.
Coming out of the 50 s, new genres of films emerged to the cinemas. Some of the most well known
and beloved movie musicals such as Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music and West Side Story were
released during the 60 s and they changed the way that we thought about our e Horror and action films

Three Major Perspectives Of School Psychology
School psychologists are problem solvers who are responsible for collecting, analyzing, and
interpreting vast amounts of information and data for educational and psychological interventions.
Along with these responsibilities it is also of utmost important to be a well rounded school
psychologist in the area of theories and causes. An in depth understanding of theories can potential be
applied and considered within working with students that come from different environments. Three

Psychological disorders in children and adults are considered to be the cause of brain and nervous
system functions described as the neurobiological perspective. One of the most interesting topics
discussed within the biological perspective is the process of neural plasticity. In the past there was a
misconception about children s brain development that was often connected to Freud s theory that
stated that the core personality of children formed at an early age. Due to extensive research this is no
longer the belief. Based on research brain functions continually change as they adapt to environmental
demands. Neural plasticity changes structure, function and organization of neurons in response to new
experiences. That being stated, the environment plays a critical role in a developing brain. As a future
school psychologist this information is critical when assessing, supporting or observing students.
Experiences will have an effect on the development or learning of children resulting in normal or
abnormal behavior. Children that are spoken to frequently during an early age will often display good
language skills and well organized brain structures. However, children who are rarely spoken to may
have stunted language development and immature language brain systems. This information brings
emphasis to the important of early interventions in a child s

Park had used multiple facts and own experiences from his research. His collaboration with Parks

Psychological Theories In Mean Girls
Introduction Psychologists all over the world have studied the complexity of adolescents and their
behaviors through out this stage of the human life span. In the movie, Mean Girls, (Waters, 2004)
Lindsay Lohan portrays the main actress known as Cady Herron. Unlike most teens, Cady was raised
in Africa, with her parents as Zoologists. She was homeschooled for all of her school years, and this
would be the first attempt at public school. Cady like most adolescents, finds herself in a rock and a
hard place when she is caught between real friendship and the fake ego plastic one. From the view of a
Developmental Psychologist, there are several key factors and theories strongly influencing Cady and
her behaviors during this time in her life. Moral emotions, moral reasoning, forging a sense of identity,
and self esteem are among the few that were chosen to take emphases on. Moral Emotion Moral
emotion is classified under Sigmund Freud s Psychoanalytic Theory along with empathy, prosocial
behavior, and antisocial behavior. (Life Span, 2015, 2012, pp. 35 40) All are behaviors and stages that
Cady is experiencing at this time in her life. Moral emotions, both positive and negative, require being
able to evaluate whether you or others have exceeded or fallen short of standards of behaviors. Cady
shows signs of antisocial behavior when she works up a plan with best friend Janis Ian to take down

The primary concern about fires set in churches is that they have been racially motivated. Of 230
church burnings in 1994 41% targeted black churches and 59% targeted white churches. In over 100
arrests, racial hatred was found to be a main motive for arson. Of those arrested 66% where white and
34% were black. In 1996 the problem of church arson increased sharply. As a result president Clinton
formed the National Church Arson Task Force (NCATF), to coordinate the efforts of federal, state and
local law enforcement agencies. Congress also then passed the Church Arson Prevention Act (CAPA),
which expanded the options available to prosecutors when dealing with malicious acts aimed at
houses of worship, since NCATF was passed the incidence of arson at houses of worship declined
steadily.
The most common motives for arson have been found to be: vandalism, excitement/attention seeking,
revenge/spite, crime concealment, economic reasons, extremist/terrorism, and people with mental
problems. Crime concealment is when arson is used to conceal another crime such as murder,
burglary, or vehicle theft. There are some people that have been found to have an irresistible impulse
to set fires. Economic Reasons may consist of insurance fraud, debt removal, direct monetary gain,
elimination of unwanted ownership, and arson for profit. The profit may come in several forms: from

Social Support and Spirituality When using the FICA spiritual History tool (Pulchalski, 2006), M.L.

not religious. Being close to nature, her family, and her pets gives her life meaning. She prays to God,
but feels deviated from a church environment and does not want to belong to a church. She did not
want to disclose further information, but summarized her preferences by having a past of traumatic

intertextual roles of the show s creators and stars Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, and Seth Meyers, who
have prominent careers in contemporary television. Each of these men starred together on Saturday
Night Live, a show built on parody and intertextual humor. Thus, audiences, if they are familiar with
the creators and stars, are primed to decode the episode as a similarly light hearted parody based on
their previous knowledge. These audience expectations are reinforced by the creators other roles on
television, which also include parodies, such as, Seth Meyers job hosting Late Night and Fred
Armisen s other show. Portlandia, on IFC, a network known for its parodic programs. Viewers
knowledge of these circumstances affects the ways in which they decode the episode Gentle and Soft

Effects of Genetic Discrimination
The new advancements in genetics spark a new revolution in medicine. Genetic information not only
can help us better understand the diseases that plague us, but can also prevent diseases that could
potentially be harmful to us. However America s history of discrimination has taken over this new
revolution also. Despite our revolutionized and civilized culture, America still suffers the cruel grip of
evil that lies behind many legal documents and contracts. Genetic Discrimination is when people are
treated differently by their employer or insurance company because they have or are perceived to have
a gene mutation that causes or increases the risk of an inherited disorder. Although insurance
companies and many employers are looking out for their companies genetically discriminating against
clients or employees promotes the public s weariness about the revolutionized genetic tests and also
discourages further medical research.
Although science of genetics still has to be improved to able to accurately predict genetic conditions,
the information it provides can be a good indicator of future illnesses. This helps psychologically
prepare and receive genetic counseling (Amy) and prepare for any surgery that may be required to
prevent the disease. This new invention has opened up amazing possibilities and should be used in
order to better our health. The small group of people who aren t afraid of the possible consequences
believe that their life is worth more than the cost of

Charity
Charity Among the key concepts of love touched upon by C.S. Lewis in his novel The Four Loves, is
his concept of charity. Charity is a type of love that involves showing care for someone that is not
easily loved, while doing it in a selfless manner with no gain for the caregiver. From the story of
creation in Genesis we are told that mankind is made in God s image. Through the act of God
sacrificing His son Jesus for our iniquity, we see that he is charitable. Therefore, transitively, mankind
is created naturally for charity. This is important to note because it shows that regardless of belief in
God, anyone can be charitable. Our understanding of charity can be wrapped up nicely by Lewis on
pages 128 and 129 of his book by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lieutenant, though unknowingly, offers money to the whiskey priest because he had no money to
his name. This shows us an important fact that even people who are not close to God have the natural
ability to show charity towards people: He put his hand suddenly in his pocket and pulled out a five
peso piece. There, he said. Get out of here, and don t let me see your face again, Mind that. (P amp;G,
140) An even more profound moment of charity with the lieutenant comes later when he actually gets
to know the whiskey priest personally. He talks about how if a person was in deep pain or suffering he
would do him a favor by shooting him and ending his misery. This moment doesn t even seem
charitable until later when the whiskey priest is executed. After being shot by the firing squad, the
lieutenant shoots him in the head so he doesn t die a slow painful death: ...if he was in pain, with
cancer, I d put a bullet through his head. (P amp;G, Page 200) Then there was a single shot, and
opening them again he saw the officer stuffing his gun back into his holster. (P amp;G, 216) During
the point of the whiskey priest s execution we get to see one more person start to form charitable
thoughts. Mr. Tench looks out the window and sees that he recognizes the whiskey priest as the same
man who left his house in order to tend to the

How Do You Explain The Steps Involved In The Urinary System
To explain how diabetes affects the different systems, we need to know how the act normally. The
urinary system normal function is to maintain the acid base balance, conserve fluids, regulate the
amount of salts and water in the blood and eliminate liquid waste, known as urea. The urinary system
works together with the lungs, skin and intestines to maintain the balance of chemicals and water in
the body. The typical adult urinates approximately twenty seven to sixty eight fluid once a day of
urine. The urinary system includes 2 kidneys (the primary organs in the urinary system), ureters, a
bladder and urethra. The kidney is where the filtration occurs, it balances salts and waters. The kidney

Secretion is when ions pass from the capillaries into the renal tubule, this becomes urine. The urine
passes through the ureters, and drain into the bladder. The bladder is where urine is collected and
stored until an urge to release it. When emptying the bladder sphincter open and urine flows, which
travels down the urethra that passes outside the body. Glucose should not be filtered out of the body
by the kidneys; therefore, if glucose is found in the urine it is a symptom that the cells aren t utilizing
the glucose affectively. The high amount of glucose in the urine provide an increase production of
bacterial and fungal growth. Urinary tract infections and yeast infections are two of the most common
bacterial and fungal infections that can be cause by type II diabetes. The increase urinary tract
infections can also be due to having a dysfunctional bladder that contract poorly. The poor contraction
allows for urine to remain in static pools for long periods of time. This provides luxurious ponds for
bacteria to grow in. Bladder problems are another problem for diabetic. An overactive bladder is
common this is caused by damaged nerves that send signals to the bladder at the wrong time, this
causes the muscles to contract without

Barbara Hepworth s Epic Works Changed The Face Of Sculpture
Barbara Hepworth s Epic Works In the article, Jeanette Winterson: Barbara Hepworth s Epic Works
Changed the face of Sculpture, the author introduces us to the woman who interchanged the look of
sculpting. Winterson states, She wanted something that people would actually look at, rather than walk
past, a piece where the meaning was inherent, rather than representational or symbolic . That
statement goes to show that Barbara Hepworth wanted to contribute something that was different from
other sculptors. Barbara Hepworth s work was captivating, engaging and she was autonomous. To
begin, Barbara Hepworth s work was quite captivating in various ways. We know this because the
author simply introduced readers to one of Hepworth s most striking pieces. As mentioned earlier, the
article states that she wanted something that people would actually look at, rather than walk past. One
of her most striking pieces, Single Form stood outside of the United Nations Building in New York
City. Based on the information in the article we can analyze how intriguing the Single Form actually
was. It is described as a curved, childlike shape with her signature piercing...her sculpture ... Show

pleased, despite risks. Another citation that backs up Barbara s self government was when the author
said. Her powerful sense of mankind as a family was a direct response to her own family. Life must be
lived whole or not at all, she thought . She was independent and fascinating and no one can say

Thomas Farrow And The Managerial Hubris
In this paper, I will address the Farrows bank, and the many issues that were involved with the running
of it. I will address Thomas Managerial Hubris, ethical decision and the Managerial Hubris, the
pressures of making an ethical decision in the Farrow bank, and finally if the bank had an ethical
business culture would anything have changed.
Thomas level of Managerial Hubris
Thomas Farrow had hubris problem long before he built up the Farrow bank. He was very vocal with
what he thought of the banking sector and about the usury fees the banking system would charge the
people, especially the common people. He was even asked to present evidence to the government
about the usury fees. In order to help those less fortunate he started a bank ... Show more content on

The employees would have had a better understanding of what they were supposed to do there are
three tips to follow when setting up an ethical business culture, the first would be to make your
expectations clear by training them in ethical business, include everything in the handbook, enforce
the policies by making sure that any type of breach of policy is punished, and finally make sure you
follow the same culture at all times do not ask your employees to do something you are not willing to
do. Following these rules would have definitely changed the outcome of the Farrow bank. It would
have given the employees rules and an actual plan of what you expect from them. There would also
have to be a reliable set of checks and balances so that no one person has too much access to the
money so that there is a money trail. Finally, there would be no main members of the board running
the day to day routines of the business. If Thomas Farrow had been more interested in the business,
hired actual qualified people, and built an actual business culture Farrow Bank would never had any
issues, but instead he allowed his Hubris to get the better of him, so that he thought he was above
everyone else, and could do no wrong, which ended in the

Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier Essay
On March 4, 1921, an unknown soldier from World War I was buried with the approval of Congress in
the plaza of the Memorial Amphitheatre at Arlington National Cemetery. This serviceman was chosen
randomly out of four other servicemen from four individual gravesites located in France. Not only was
this soldier honored as a valiant trooper, but unknown soldiers from World War II and the Korean War
were honored and remembered at this site too. The soldier located in the Tomb of the Unknown
Soldier was buried with a white marble sarcophagus on top of the grave that has engravings of both
Greek figures and words that say an American soldier known but to God. The importance of this
mausoleum is that it honors those who were unidentified soldiers, and shows that our country will
honor our armed forces and respect them, whether they are known or unknown.
One of the Unknowns buried at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was the Unknown from World War
II. The trooper was chosen from two caskets, where one casket had the remains of a soldier that was
eliminated in Europe, and the other casket had the remains of a soldier that was eliminated in the
Pacific. Medal of Honor recipient Hospital Corpsman First Class William R. Charette had the honor of
choosing the remains to be sent to Arlington National Cemetery. As a result, the other casket with the
remains of the other soldier were buried at sea. Before the casket was buried, the casket of the World
War II Unknown was laid in the U.S.

Host Europe
Host Europe
Advancing CSR and Sustainability in a Medium Sized IT Company
I. Introduction/Overview
Host Europe is a webhosting company in Germany. In 2009, it set a course for development of its
sustainability and corporate social responsibility strategy (Hahn, 2010, p. 1). Since then it has been
proactive in improving its energy efficiency and environmental performance (Hahn, 2010, p. 1). It has
also made a substantial effort to live up to its corporate social responsibility (Hahn, 2010, p. 1).
Corporate social responsibility means that a corporation should act in a way that enhances society and
its inhabitants and be held accountable for any of its actions that affect people, their communities, and
their environment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Host Europe should make an effort to educate its customers of the realities and benefits of
virtualization. If it is able to convince customers to switch to virtual servers, it will enhance its profits
by reduced energy costs. Host Europe may even consider pricing virtual servers lower than dedicated
servers, which are servers that do not share hardware. The loss of profit may be made up through the
previously mentioned reduced energy costs.
Highly Specialized and Gender Shift Employees
While Host Europe provides a wide range of benefits for employees (memberships for a local gym,
ergonomic workplaces, catered food, staff development, open door policy, family benefits such as a
day care for kids, etc.) there remains a low proportion of women currently working for the company.
Host Europe can potentially increase the proportion of women by continuing to offer a family friendly
environment, which includes support in childcare and its own daycare center. There was no mention of
maternity leave, but this should also be highlighted and embedded as a benefit. The company can also
offer scholarships for women in the ICT sector to invest into the future.
The other issue Host Europe can address is their need to hire more specialized employees. The
company can obtain more specialized employees by investing in specialized

The Black Man s Existence Essay
Science tells us that everything that we as humans do comes from a basic need to survive, and this
tells us that the desire to live, or the fear of death, is one of the most primal things that every person
feels. In America, this primal desire to survive is what governs African American men in their daily
life as a result of the constant fear that their bodies will be taken from them in an act of violence. In
Between the World and Me, Ta Nehsi Coates writes about the state of black bodies in America,
focusing on the racial violence and harassment that black men face on a daily basis, in the form of a
letter to his son. The black man s existence in America is established by this ever present fear of death
due to the fact that their bodies and their general existence is so policed through social subjugation and
institutionalized violence. Moreover, Coates explains that the white identity is constructed in
comparison to black existence, and in order to keep white identity as supreme, America allows for the
continuous physical attack and constant disenfranchisement of African Americans. Evidence from the
text will show that Coates s combines personal experience with beautifully rhythmic prose in order to
make it clear to the reader the ways in which the African American existence is controlled and dictated
in America. It also clarifies how this is done through the ever present threat of violence, and that the
reason this policing takes place is to solidify whiteness as the

  • 3. The Lasting Effect Of Adolf Hitler And The Holocaust Many religious conflicts are built from prejudice. However, only few will have a lasting effect on the world s history. In Germany in the year 1933, a man named Adolf Hitler rose to power. His mission would be to exterminate all minorities, but most importantly, the Jews. Holocaust is a word of Greek origin meaning sacrifice by fire . But as we now know in history, the Holocaust was the genocide of six million Jews by Hitler and the Nazi regime. Over the time of Hitler s reign, the Jewish population would be stripped of their rights, dignity, and most preciously their lives. At the end of WWI, Germany was directly blamed for causing the great conflict. Many Germans could not accept this blame, and believed designed by the Jewish people as part of a greater conspiracy. Adolf Hitler was appointed chancellor of Germany on January 30, 1933. The Nazi rise to power ended the Weimar Republic, the German democracy that was established after World War I. The Nazi state, also called The Third Reich, quickly became a regime in which citizens had no guaranteed basic rights. Hitler s first objective was to eliminate political opposition. The assault against the Jews began with a boycott of Jewish businesses. A week later the Nazis dismissed Jews from civil service, and by the end of the month the participation of Jews in German schools was restricted. Poe uses every move and word spoken by Montresor to reinforce the idea of revenge. Emma Kiy 6414631 ENG 2136 Dr. Seam Moreland Friday, 28 November, 2014 Oh, The Shark Has Pretty Teeth Dear and He Show s em, Pearly White When the image of a vampire is brought to mind one imagines a tall, thin and pale European aristocratic man dressed in fine clothes and displaying a set of pearly white fangs. However neither the aristocratic status nor the fangs can be found in folkloric accounts of vampirism. The true image of a vampire is a difficult thing to describe due to the influence that different cultures have had on the development of the myth. The depiction of vampirism in Bram Stoker s Dracula and Richard Matheson s I Am Legend differ from one another and while these depictions stray from the folkloric accounts of vampires both find their roots in legend. The folkloric vampire has taken many different forms and has held a variety of traits, skills and weaknesses; each mirroring the customs, beliefs, and fears of different cultures (Bartlett 1). I can be difficult to find one all encompassing description of a vampire due to the myths discrepancy among cultures. Vampire myths and legends exist in many cultures spanning the globe. The first wave (1830 s early 1900 s) emphasized on legal issues and gaining political power including the right to vote to bring gender equality. The second wave (1960 s 1980 s) stressed on broadening the discussions to a wider range. They focused on the work place, sexuality, family, reproductive rights, domestic violence and marital rape issues. The third wave (1900 s present) expands the topic of feminism to include women with varied identities and a response to the failures of movements by second wave feminism. Rebecca Walker coined the term third wave feminism in an essay Becoming the Third Wave (1992). In the introduction to idea of third wave feminism in Manifesta authors Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards suggest that feminism can change with every generation and individual. Feminists have long criticised the institution of marriage. They stated that marriage leads to oppression of women and their rights curtailed. The gender inequality is judged from the fact that mostly women take up domestic and caring work and they get paid less than men for outside work. Traditionally, all men give speech and the women surrender her name to take her husband s name. Suicide among adolescent girls may occur as a result of mental disorders, drug misuse, cultural, family and social situations, genetics, and most of all, cyberbullying (Ehmke). Based on a 2015 study, about 20% of adolescent girls in the U.S. consider suicide and between 5% and 8% of them attempt suicide each year (Ehmke). In 2014 alone, 150 girls out of 10 million, between the ages of ten and fourteen, committed suicide due to cyberbullying among other related factors (Graham). Medical experts warn that excessive social media and smartphone use may lead to cyberbullying. Most victims of cyberbullying often experience a great deal of stress and anxiety leading to suicidal ideation (Ehmke). An analysis by Jean Twenge, in The Atlantic, confirms that cyberbullying is more strongly related to suicidal thoughts in adolescents than traditional bullying (Twenge). Some estimates suggest that depending on the country of origin between 5% and 20% of adolescent girls are victims of physical, verbal or exclusion based bullying, while 15% to 30% of them are victims of cyberbullying (Twenge). The relationship between cyberbullying and suicide has only been explored in a few studies, but Jean Twenge s analysis strongly suggests that cyberbullying is a major risk factor for suicide ideation in adolescent girls (Twenge). • 13. How Is Offred Presented In The Handmaid s Tale Offred Offred is the protagonist and narrator of the The Handmaid s Tale . As one of the rare fertile women in this dystopian world, she is put at the bottom of the social hierarchy as a Handmaid, where her sole purpose is to provide children for the Commander and his Wife. Despite being the protagonist, Offred is a passive character who generally conforms to the social stereotypes in Gilead due to her cowardice. Despite this, there are some moments where the reader is able to acknowledge the degree of power she holds within this society. According to critic Coral Ann Howells, those at the bottom don t have power , yet Carol L. Beran argues that they have some kind of special power , and indeed, Offred is not completely powerless in Gileadean society. All women in Gilead have a modicum of power, and Offred is no exception. She gains her power through her biology and sexuality, because men in Gilead are not allowed a woman until they become an Angel, a high position in the social hierarchy. Offred s power is often hidden or oppressed by the system the Sons of Jacob have created. This is seen when Offred says doubled, I walk down the street (Atwood) when recounting the experience of shopping with her partner, Ofglen. Here, Offred is literally doubled due to Ofglen walking alongside her in identical clothing, which could suggest the lack of power due to the loss of identity. This also illustrates how the Sons of Jacob attempt women from using their power by using them as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Charity is a type of love that involves showing care for someone that is not easily loved, while doing it in a selfless manner with no gain for the caregiver. From the story of creation in Genesis we are told that mankind is made in God s image. Through the act of God sacrificing His son Jesus for our iniquity, we see that he is charitable. Therefore, transitively, mankind is created naturally for charity. This is important to note because it shows that regardless of belief in God, anyone can be charitable. Our understanding of charity can be wrapped up nicely by Lewis on pages 128 and 129 of his book by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lieutenant, though unknowingly, offers money to the whiskey priest because he had no money to his name. This shows us an important fact that even people who are not close to God have the natural ability to show charity towards people: He put his hand suddenly in his pocket and pulled out a five peso piece. There, he said. Get out of here, and don t let me see your face again, Mind that. (P amp;G, 140) An even more profound moment of charity with the lieutenant comes later when he actually gets to know the whiskey priest personally. He talks about how if a person was in deep pain or suffering he would do him a favor by shooting him and ending his misery. This moment doesn t even seem charitable until later when the whiskey priest is executed. After being shot by the firing squad, the lieutenant shoots him in the head so he doesn t die a slow painful death: ...if he was in pain, with cancer, I d put a bullet through his head. (P amp;G, Page 200) Then there was a single shot, and opening them again he saw the officer stuffing his gun back into his holster. (P amp;G, 216) During the point of the whiskey priest s execution we get to see one more person start to form charitable thoughts. Mr. Tench looks out the window and sees that he recognizes the whiskey priest as the same man who left his house in order to tend to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier Essay On March 4, 1921, an unknown soldier from World War I was buried with the approval of Congress in the plaza of the Memorial Amphitheatre at Arlington National Cemetery. This serviceman was chosen randomly out of four other servicemen from four individual gravesites located in France. Not only was this soldier honored as a valiant trooper, but unknown soldiers from World War II and the Korean War were honored and remembered at this site too. The soldier located in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was buried with a white marble sarcophagus on top of the grave that has engravings of both Greek figures and words that say an American soldier known but to God. The importance of this mausoleum is that it honors those who were unidentified soldiers, and shows that our country will honor our armed forces and respect them, whether they are known or unknown. One of the Unknowns buried at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was the Unknown from World War II. The trooper was chosen from two caskets, where one casket had the remains of a soldier that was eliminated in Europe, and the other casket had the remains of a soldier that was eliminated in the Pacific. • 34. The Black Man s Existence Essay Science tells us that everything that we as humans do comes from a basic need to survive, and this tells us that the desire to live, or the fear of death, is one of the most primal things that every person feels. In America, this primal desire to survive is what governs African American men in their daily life as a result of the constant fear that their bodies will be taken from them in an act of violence. In Between the World and Me, Ta Nehsi Coates writes about the state of black bodies in America, focusing on the racial violence and harassment that black men face on a daily basis, in the form of a letter to his son. The black man s existence in America is established by this ever present fear of death due to the fact that their bodies and their general existence is so policed through social subjugation and institutionalized violence. Moreover, Coates explains that the white identity is constructed in comparison to black existence, and in order to keep white identity as supreme, America allows for the continuous physical attack and constant disenfranchisement of African Americans. Evidence from the text will show that Coates s combines personal experience with beautifully rhythmic prose in order to make it clear to the reader the ways in which the African American existence is controlled and dictated in America. It also clarifies how this is done through the ever present threat of violence, and that the reason this policing takes place is to solidify whiteness as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
