This document provides an overview of 360-degree performance appraisals. It explains that 360-degree appraisals involve collecting feedback on an employee's performance from their manager, subordinates, peers, customers, and suppliers. The process involves distributing questionnaires to these sources to rate the employee on competencies. While 360-degree appraisals provide a more comprehensive view of performance, they can fail due to bias, lack of rater training, and cultural barriers within organizations. The document emphasizes the importance of proper implementation, including training appraisers, to ensure effective 360-degree performance evaluations.

Tour Guide Intercultural Communication CompetenceHora Tjitra
In the rapid expansion of global tourism, tour guides play an important role in bridging cultures. Having an excellent intercultural communication competence (ICC) will be critical for their success. Based on the behavioral expectation model (Pavitt & Haight, 1985), Leclerc & Martin (2004) showed cross-cultural variations of the tour guides’ ICC among the American, French and German travelers. However this study also raises question about the appropriateness of applying ICC frameworks, developed in the US, to other cultures.

The Value of Leadership, the Leadership of Value: Remaining Relevant in times...Peter Bromberg

Throw out those 5 year strategic plans, change ain't what it used to be. Change no longer happens in slow, predictable, macro waves that allow us the time to make and execute big plans. Change now happens in a continual series of microbursts, each one potentially changing our experiences, behaviors, perceptions, and expectations in unexpected but potentially powerful ways.
A new type of leadership is called for. A leadership that not only provides a map for change, but also empowers people in your organization to throw away the map and respond to clients' needs in the moment. A leadership that questions best practices, holding only lightly to the ways of the past. A leadership that monitors societal trends and embraces small innovations and good ideas no matter where they come from.
This Presentation is prepared as a supplementary tool for Quantitative Evaluation of Headmaster & Teachers of schools. There is no separate proforma for evaluating the Performance of a Headmaster which is such an important development tool for an Educational Organization.
This is an "About 360 Degree Feedback" presentation & it deals with how 360 Degree Feedback Tools are used in organizations.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Syed Haris 10
11. How is Feedback obtained?
By using a questionnaire which asks
participants to rate the individual according to
observed behaviors - usually managerial or
business-specific competencies.
This process will not suit all companies. One
should assess how well it would fit with the
current culture before launching a scheme and
a pilot scheme is worth building into the
programme

24. Why 360 degree Appraisal Programs
Fail? ….
360 performance rating system is not a validated or
corroborated technique for Performance appraisal.
With the increase in the number of raters from one to five
(commonly), it become difficult to separate, calculate and
eliminate personal biasness and differences.
It is often time consuming and difficult to analyze the
information gathered.
The results can be manipulated by the employees towards
their desired ratings with the help of the raters.
Syed Haris 24
25. ….Why 360 degree Appraisal Programs
Fail?
The 360 degree appraisal mechanism can have a adversely
effect on the motivation and the performance of the
employees.
360 degree feedback – as a process requires commitment of
top management and the HR, resources(time, financial
resources etc), planned implementation and follow up.
360 degree feedback can be adversely affected by the
customers perception of the organisation and their incomplete
knowledge about the process and the clarity of the process.
Often, the process suffers because of the lack of knowledge on
the part of the participants or the raters.Syed Haris 25
26. Pertinent Questions ???
• Is your organization committed to continuous
learning?
• Does your organization see the value of
developing leaders in-house?
• Are you willing to make the changes
necessary to do this?
• What is the level of trust in your organization?
Will your culture support honest feedback?
• Is upper level management willing to lead the
way and volunteer for 360-degree evaluation?
Syed Haris 26
27. Training Appraisers
Train appraisers to eliminate rater error
– Error of central tendency
– Leniency or strictness error
– Recency error
– Contrast error
– Similar to me error
Syed Haris 27
28. Effective appraisal programs . . .
Comply with the law
To ensure that the performance appraisal system does
not violate principles of fair employment practices:
- Job related performance standards
- Provide employees with a written copy of the
standards before the appraisal
- Standards must be based on observable or
measurable behaviour
- Train the raters
- Provide feedback
- Implement an appeal system to settle
disagreements
Syed Haris 28
29. Conducting the Appraisal Interview
•Ask for self assessment
•Invite participation
•Express appreciation
•Minimize criticism
•Change behaviour, not the person
•Focus on solving problems
•Be supportive
•Establish goals
•Follow up day-to-day

We have all seen cartoons depicting the owl that can turn his head 180 degrees to the left and 180 degrees to the right. But in reality, an owl can only turn his head 270 degrees — not in a full circle. Full circle or not, it's still a good range of vision.
I'm sure you're wondering what this has to do with your business. But consider this. An owl lives in a very competitive environment. If he is to be successful in his world, he must constantly be looking for opportunities and threats. He must gather information from all directions to get a complete read on his environment and what he must to do to survive. In business terms, this translates to gathering input on our performance from all points to ensure we are doing the job we want to do.
360 degree appraisal has four integral components:1. Self appraisal2. Superior’s appraisal3. Subordinate’s appraisal4. Peer appraisal.Self appraisal gives a chance to the employee to look at his/her strengths and weaknesses, his achievements, and judge his own performance. Superior’s appraisal forms the traditional part of the 360 degree performance appraisal where the employees’ responsibilities and actual performance is rated by the superior. Subordinates appraisal gives a chance to judge the employee on the parameters like communication and motivating abilities, superior’s ability to delegate the work, leadership qualities etc. Also known as internal customers, the correct feedback given by peers can help to find employees’ abilities to work in a team, co-operation and sensitivity towards others.
This technique is being effectively used across the globe for performance appraisals. Some of the organizations following it are Wipro, Infosys, and Reliance Industries etc.
If you cannot answer "yes" to these and similar questions, then your organization may not be ready for 360-degree evaluations. While this can be a powerful and positive tool when tied to strategic goals and individual development, you might consider doing more research on the subject before implementation
