Haematinics are substances that help in the formation of blood cells and are used to treat anemia. Common causes of anemia include blood loss, impaired red blood cell formation, and bone marrow depression. Deficiencies in haematinics like iron can lead to anemia. When haematinic deficiencies cause anemia, haematinics can be administered as medicines to increase hemoglobin levels in the blood. Some important iron compounds used as haematinics include ferrous sulfate, ferrous fumarate, ferrous ammonium citrate, ferrous ascorbate, and carbonyl iron.

3. • Iron is one of the crucial required for the human body and it's
essential to perform several important functions in the body as
follows
• It is involved in the transport of oxygen from the lungs to tissues. It
is essential to the elementary metabolic process in the cell.
• It is also required in metabolism as a component of some proteins
and enzymes. The iron is distributed in blood and other tissues and
usually, it occurs in the bound form to haemoglobin, plasma,
myoglobin for various functions like transport of oxygen and cell
respiration.
• It is also required the production of adenosine triphosphate ATP
which convert food into energy.
• It also helps to maintain the normal immune system as iron is a

5. Ferrous Sulphate (Fe SO4. 7H2O)
Syn- Green Vitriol
Physical Properties
• It occurs as bluish green crystals or granules or pale green crystalline powder.
• It is odourless.
• It effloresces in dry air.
• It is having astringent metallic taste.
• It is soluble in water and insoluble in alcohol.
• On exposure to moist air it is oxidised and becomes brown in color.
• When heated at high temperature it decomposes to ferric oxide, sulphurdioxide, sulphuric
acid.

2(FeSO4).7H2O  Fe2O3 + SO2 + H2SO4 + H2O

Storage-
• Store in airtight containers to prevent decomposition.To retard the oxidation and thus to
stabilizr the preparation containing ferrous sulphate,dextrose 40 % used.
USES-
It is used in iron deficiency anemia. It is used as heamatinic.
