Applying Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the...
The classic stories Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the looking Glass by Lewis Carroll
consist of dreamlike adventures in a crazy world of nonsense. However this nonsense can be
deciphered into a complex new system of thinking. This way of thinking can be transferred and
directly applied to the mind. How the mind works, its many varying functions, and lastly the
unconscious mind can all be tied to Alice. The unconscious mind can be compared to Alice, as can a
dreamlike state of mind. In the first book Lewis Carroll wrote, it never states that Alice is dreaming. It
does infer that she is, though, by way of saying it was a warm day, which would make one drowsy.
You can imagine slowly drifting off and all of the sudden ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So in her unconscious mind, she creates a new world of her own, filled to the brim with nonsense. As
she goes on to explore it, her adventures lead her to the conclusion that society has these rules for a
reason. Alice appears to be more mature at the end of this dream, showing you can learn from
yourself, through your unconscious mind.
The part of the brain that controls dreams is called the Pons. This region of brain near the base of the
skull transports information to the thalamus, which controls the learning and thinking aspects of the
brain. Sigmund Freud believed that dreams acted as a safety valve for desires. This could mean that
Alice truly wanted a world of ridiculousness, but knew better, but just had to prove it to herself,
subconsciously. Thus, it was like a safety net, because she never really did any of the nonsensical
things, but still learned from it. (NINDS)
To put it in a way, we ARE Alice. We can be relatively compared to her, psychologically. Alice is
confused in her mind, and hates the way things are. She doesn t see the reason behind some things. We
can be that way about things at times. Alice learned from her dreams though, before she went berserk.
This happens to us too, in a way. It may not be in a dream, but in any type of sudden realization, about
what we could not understand before, now makes sense with new information. Once we realize
something, we can use it to our use. Once Alice

Relationship Between Family And Family
Introduction
Many would agree that the dynamics of the family structure have changed drastically. Families are
faced with many challenges, often times outside intervention is necessary in coping with the plethora
of issues families face. We are living in a time of increased racial tensions, stress, bullying, domestic
violence, mental illness, same sex marriage, drug abuse, increased divorce rates, blended families, and
cohabitation. The use of Marriage and family therapists appears to be increasing. According to
Gladding, (2004), 56.9 million people utilized marriage and family therapists. This paper will discuss
the understanding of marriage and family therapists and the family life cycle. In addition the blended
family is discussed as it relates to the role of the marriage, and family counselor. An overview of the
preventative wellness measures that could apply to preblended families is also reviewed.
Understanding of the family life cycle as it applies to counselors working with couples and families.
My understanding of the family life cycle as it applies to counselors is that it is complex and a direct
correlation between the fit of the therapists life stage along with the family (Gladding, 2004). As a
therapist and /or counselor, consideration must be given to the life cycle stage of the family as well as
the culture of the client(s). Families are systems and different cultures define family in different ways.
There are many factors that may have an impact on the

Taboos And Discrimination
Being born and raised in Eritrea, our traditions and cultures can have very strict views on certain
issues and beliefs in our society. We have many strong taboos and laws back home and breaking one
can be extremely objectional in society, thus leading to harsh punishments.
Homosexuality is considered as one of the biggest taboos in Eritrea. People still have so many wrong
assumptions about homosexuals based on different motives. Having spent almost two decades of my
life in Eritrea, my opinions and beliefs on homosexuals have somehow been negatively affected in the
past but I was able to change that after I moved out of the country and started to expose myself to
people from different cultures and backgrounds.
People don #39;t really talk about homosexuality back home. It #39;s not an argument or a topic that
you bring up and talk about in public or even between friends. We just considered homosexuality to be
wrong. As simple as that. In a country where homosexuality is illegal, you can imagine how someone
would feel if he/she came out as gay. Gay people wouldn t come out to their parents fearing they
would be refused and abandoned. Even accusing someone of being gay, whether he/she is or not can
have a life lasting impact in his/her social life. Personally, I have never heard of someone going
through this situation. There is so much fear of being identified as gay that you barely hear rumors
about someone being a homosexual as they always have to be cautious. That #39;s why

The Theory Of Organizational Change
Literature Synthesis The idea of change can alarm any system and lead to unexpected reactions from
the members associated with the system. As the change begins to be implemented, these uncertainties
intensify and can lead to crisis. This phenomenon becomes even more crucial when the system
involves an organization with leaders and those members with non managerial responsibilities. When
change is being implemented within an organization by its leaders, the consequences of it can be
underestimated or ignored by them, resulting in crises and, eventually, failure of the change efforts. In
order for change to succeed, specifically in today s business world, where organizations are constantly
undergoing change at a fast rate, companies should educate their employees in understanding and
supporting change. Taking both organizational and employee perspectives into account, Armenakis
and Bedeian (1999) have reviewed major research publications on the theory of organizational change
from 1987 to 1999. To set a basis for selecting from the vast number of the available material, their
study was concentrated on those researches focusing on the fundamentals of organizational change
dynamics. The researchers acknowledge the effect of the extent of their resource selection on the
literature review outcome, stating that their choice of subject area will provide a deeper understanding
of the existing approaches governing organizational change. In order to make their research
manageable,

E Tron, Its Nascent Line Of Hybrid Electric Vehicles
Audi launches e tron, its nascent line of hybrid electric vehicles. The Audi A3 Sportback e tron name
is a mouthful. Once you get beyond the lengthy moniker for this unusual plug in hybrid electric
vehicle (PHEV), calling it e tron or A3 e tron seems entirely appropriate. The e tron designation is an
Audi registered trademark, representing this brand s electric and hybrid vehicle efforts, much in the
same way Ford uses Energi to describe its own line of electrified vehicles. The 2016 Audi A3
Sportback e tron is its initial offering and will be followed by other models. That the e tron arrived on
the market the same year Audi s diesel engines were put on hold due to parent Volkswagen s emissions
scandal seems fortuitous, although sales of this PHEV will certainly come in at a much lower rate than
what the diesel models would have provided. Nevertheless, Audi s US sales continue to rise despite
the EPA s stop sale order for its diesel engines. Indeed, customers have discovered that the marque s
family of gasoline powered models are a sufficient substitute lower fuel prices across the board has
relieved consumer pressure to find the most efficient cars too. 2016 Audi A3 Sportback e tron The
2016 Audi A3 Sportback e tron has a familiar look in essence, it is a compact five door A3 outfitted
with a turbocharged 1.4 liter, four cylinder gas engine, an electric motor, and a battery pack. That pack

Ignatius J. Reilley In John Kennedy Toole s Confederacy Of Du
Ignatius J. Reilly is the main character in the humorous book Confederacy of Dunces, by John
Kennedy Toole, which is set in the city of New Orleans in the early 1960s. Ignatius is an educated
man of thirty who lives in Uptown New Orleans with his mother Mrs. Irene Reilly. Throughout the
book Ignatius searches for a job and encounters many difficulties while roaming the city. His
insatiable appetite, overpowering laziness, and outlandish personality adds a comical view of him
which builds throughout the novel. Ignatius J. Reilley can best be described in three words which
dominate his character throughout the entirety of the novel: disrespectful, idealistic, and arrogant.

Ignatius believes he is very intelligent, but although he has a college degree, he lacks much common
sense. When told to find a job, Ignatius believes he can hold almost any position but later discovers
that is untrue and states Apparently I lack some particular perversion which today s employer is
seeking (154). Ignatius thinks of others around him as being uneducated and barbarian like. While
Ignatius was on his normal hot dog selling route, the Ladies Art Guild was having a hanging of their
paintings, and Ignatius decided to take a look. Upon seeing a picture of a camellia painted by one of
the women, Ignatius exclaimed You ladies need a critic with some taste and decency (224). Ignatius
thinks very highly of himself as being a scholar and man of the arts, yet he continues to act like a child
and a fool throughout the story.
Ignatius J. Reilly is a character readers either love or hate because of his personality. He is a very odd
character who brings humor to readers across the world who share in his humorous spirit. For reasons
such as his personality, humor, and creativity, Ignatius J. Reilly is one of the most studied characters at
Jesuit High School and causes people to continue to study his character even to this

Driverless Car Advancement
Have you ever been extremely late for school or your occupations and wish you could just get ready in
the car? Automotive cars are planned to come out sometime in the near future of the year 2020. I
know this new technological advancement seems scary, but with the ways it will benefit us
remarkable. Self driving cars would impact our advanced society in many positive ways because the
streets would become less congested, the innovations for cars have worked before, and the amount of
deaths would be lessened. The driverless car would be a great innovation to have in your everyday life
because it will allow cities to not be as congested. Firstly, this technology will become increasingly
reliable and affordable, which will allow dense, urban locations to become more spread out in
population (Dashevsky). This demonstrates that when this innovation ... Show more content on

Firstly, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has estimated 2,200 lives were saved due
to electronic stability from 2008 to 2010 (Villasenor). This demonstrates how technological
advancements might even be scary at the beginning and hard to get used to, that it will be worth it in
the long run. Next, advanced innovations are being tested, such as safely navigating through streets, to
prove that this technology is capable (Villasenor). Without people driving these cars, and computers
navigating through the streets instead, there will be less accidents as well as deaths. Finally, road
deaths have dropped from 53,000 in 1970 to 33,000 in 2014, which is even more impressive when you
hear that the population has doubled and the number of miles we drive per year has tripled
(Dashevsky). This demonstrates that innovations have been working for the past years, if the amount
of deaths per year have been decreasing. In summary, these technological advancements have
improved our lives greatly over the past

Clinical Site Comparison
There are many differences between my first semester clinical site, at UCH Denver, and at Penrose,
this semester s site. The teaching style of the technologists is different, acquiring clinical history for
every patient is required, and there are children and infant patients in Penrose. These create a stark
contrast between the two clinical sites.
Up at UCH Denver, the radiologic technologists give the students a lot of leash. In fact, they almost
drop kick students into preforming exams. Students are shown how to do procedures and run
equipment, then sent to do exams and grab the techs before they take the images. The atmosphere is
pretty relaxed and everyone is accustomed to teaching and correcting student mistakes. Trial by fire is
the way of learning up in Denver. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The radiologists expect tech notes on each patient, unlike UCH Denver. For the most part, a tech has
been by my side to make sure I obtain the correct information. Then, they check the notes students
write to assess whether the notes are written well enough, giving us tips and corrections. Ed has
suggested that I write down the clinical history, in short hand, of course. I have found that writing
down my questions before hand ensures I do not miss my information. Students are allowed to retrieve
patients from the emergency department and outpatient waiting areas. There are small changing areas
and gowns available, but hardly utilized. Most patients seen in the exam rooms are already changed in
the emergency department. The greatest difference I have discovered is that our patients include
children and babies. Children are so much smaller and they

Breaching Reflection Paper
During syllabus week, I was immediately interested in the breaching experiment. I have always been
interested in the challenging the mundane aspects of our culture and seeing how people react. A
breaching experiment is an experiment that is used to observe and record reactions of people in which
an individual breaks a social rule or norm. Breaching experiments are important because even if you
don t realize it, following the rules that have been set around us and acting like everyone else shows
that you are supporting the structure of society. Also, one can promote a different reality when
someone acts different or against the grain of society.
The norm that I am breaching is the courteous act of picking up papers when someone drops them. ...

I made sure to throw the papers all over the place so that I drew attention to myself. My first attempt
was a little weak because I wasn t quite skilled on fake tripping and I probably looked like someone
who was fake tripping. At first, I got a lot of strange looks, like Did that girl just fake trip? so I quickly
picked up all the papers and ran into the bathroom to hide. After I collected myself from the
embarrassment, I found another seat and waited about 10 minutes before I tried again. My second
attempt went better, my fake trip was a little less flamboyant but still believable. It took a few seconds
before a young man bent down to help me. I got up and started to walk away quickly in the opposite
direction. I walked fast enough so that I could go into Crossroads and spy throughout one of the
windows which was pretty convenient. The guy definitely had a confused look on his face. He looked
around, got up, and left the papers spread out on the floor. After he walked away I picked the papers
up and sat down to wait again. The third time was definitely different. After my perfected fake trip, a
group of girls stopped to help me. Out of a group of four girls, two bent down and started to pick up
my papers. The moment I started to walk in the opposite direction a girl said, What the fuck? . I tried
so hard not to have a reaction so I kept walking with my head down.

The Making of a Legend
What does it take to be a legend? How far would one go to be a legend in something one enjoys?
Jordan Burroughs will go the the ends of the earth to considered a legend in the sport of freestyle
wrestling. He went from underdog to top dog with years of hard work, unrelentless training, and never
giving up on his dream to be a legend in mans oldest sport...wrestling.
In ancient Greek mythology, Zeus wrestled Cronos in a battle over the universe in which of course
Zeus won. The great event was celebrated by making wrestling the last event in the Pentathlon. Back
in Ancient times greek men wrestled covered in olive oil and naked. To win one had to throw his
opponent or knock him down, but ancient greece was not the only ones who wrestled. In Mesopotamia
Sumerian caves had drawings in them of wrestling that dated back at least 7,000 years. Over in the
village of Beni Hasan, Egypt historians found wrestling how to drawings in tombs.
In present day wrestling a new up and coming star named Jordan Burroughs is taking the International
Freestyle Circuit by storm. Burroughs is 25 years old and became the seventh U.S. wrestler to win
three Olympic or world titles. Burroughs joined Bruce Baumgartner, Kevin Jackson, Leroy Kemp,
Mark Schultz and John Smith. Burroughs and Smith are the only two wrestlers in U.S. history to win
back to back world or Olympic titles. Jordan is also hoping to join John as the only as the only
wrestlers to win all six Olympic and world titles in a 6 year

Euthanasia Should Not Be Legal
What is euthanasia? Euthanasia is defined as the deliberate act of killing of a person who is suffering
from a terminal disease, which therefore ends their pain and suffering. This practice is often known as
a mercy killing. What makes voluntary euthanasia different from euthanasia? Voluntary euthanasia can
be described as a mercy killing made at the request of the patient to end their life in a manner that
minimizes further pain and discomfort.
While the practice remains controversial universally, it begs the question, should a terminally ill
patient or a patient with a low quality of life due to chronic pain be allowed to die on their terms? I
will show how a utilitarian would argue that the suffering endured by the ... Show more content on

But, the fact remains that euthanasia is still considered murder in most regions. Therefore, in this
context, it seems that the utilitarian intent is overshadowed by the dark reality of death and criminal
charges. There are limits to quantifying happiness or suffering to measure the quality of one s life. If
one ends their life, then there is no practical relevance because the dead do not feel happiness or
suffering (Singer, 2003, p. 529). Jojo Moyes wrote the book Me Before You that was later turned into
a film that tells the tale of the once vibrant, charismatic, and wild Will Traynor, whose zest for life was
altered by a freak accident that left him an angry, emotionally barren quadriplegic determined to end
his self perceived meaningless, pain filled life. Desperate to save her son, Will s mother hires Louisa
Clark to be his caretaker. His mother s hope is that Louisa can show will that his life is still worth
living. When Louisa discovers that it is Will s intention to go to Switzerland to end his life, she is
determined to change his mind, despite the happy moments, Will cannot be dissuaded. With his
parents and Louisa at his bedside, Will gazes out the window of the suite and peacefully dies (Moyes,
2012). The story is the perfect example of a made for Hollywood movie that inspires people to
consider voluntary euthanasia as an alternative to palliative care. The book and film are well written

Each village consisted of a Sachem and a tribal council. The way power was held in the two clans had
its differences. The political power floated upward to the people. In the Algonquians, the power was
held more by men. In the Iroquois, the women had the last vote for the person or group of people they
wanted to lead their clan. When it came to enforcing laws and helping each other out, the men and
women worked together. There were other Indians in the Eastern woodlands that considered the turtle,
deer, and fish their brothers. They were at one with nature, they cherished it so much. Nature was
cherished so much that when hunters went out to hunt, they left a little meat and skin as an offering to
the spirits. Now we can have a good picture of how the Wampanoags felt when they saw strange ships

Comparable figures were not available for triplets, but the risk and stresses for triplet births are much
higher than for twins (6). Because multiple pregnancies put more stress on the mother as well as the
fetus, this increases the chances that the babies will be born premature as well as with cerebral palsy.
There is an increased frequency of fetal distress among cases of cerebral palsy and death, representing
the increased antennal risk factors in the pregnancy (2). Multiple pregnancies are becoming much
more popular and common due to advances in fertilization enhancing techniques. Higher numbers of
babies are being born, producing higher numbers of premature infants. The numbers of multiple births
surviving the prenatal period is increasing with the increasing survival of very tiny babies (1).
Through the use of fertility drugs, multiple births are producing more premature babies, which in
effect, increases an infant s chance of having cerebral palsy. When an infant is born prematurely, the
chances of it having cerebral palsy are much higher than that of a baby carried to term. There is an
increasing prevalence of cerebral palsy in preterm infants (3). When an infant is prematurely born,

Climbing Mount Everest In Jon Krakauer s Into Thin Air
Climbing Mount Everest, though a great accomplishment few can say to have done, is a life
threatening ordeal. In the book, Into Thin Air, the audience is guided through the entire tragic event
through the author, Jon Krakauer s eyes. Whilst conquering Mount Everest, eight lives were taken
from them on May 10 11, both clients and guides. But the big question still remains unsettled; Who is
responsible for the deaths that occurred on Mount Everest? Jon Krakauer holds greed accountable for
the all the deaths that day. Though there isn t a certain to put blame upon, it was more of a certain
group s fault than it was others. Careless mistakes and decisions were also huge factors which
eventually led up to their disaster. Mountain climbing is already a dangerous sport itself but making it
a competition took it to a whole different level of danger. Everywhere you looked, there was
competition; sherpas were competing against one another to be hired by the guiding services, guide
services were competing for the publicity and exposure from the media, even Krakauer was being
fought for by two guides to be in their group because of the exposure Krakauer s going to bring after
he publicizes his article about his expedition. Nepal were mindless when allowing who could and who
could not climb. They would let just about anyone go for the right amount of money and the guides,
who were more experienced, should have known better to let such inexperienced climbers go. Everest

My Experience At Summer Camp
You and your sister are soooooo different, my friend, who I had met at summer camp a couple years

throats parched. Approximately two second before Julia spoke those words, my sister had attempted to
do a cartwheel in front of the whole camp, failed miserably, and screamed out in amusement. The
episode was followed first by a simultaneous gasp from the mouths of 200 campers, in fear of her
injury, and then a fit of booming laughter when she stuck up her thumb and smiled. While everyone
stood around watching her, I pouted on the sidelines of the common field and shook my head in
shame. Of course I wanted to be in on the fun, laughing and jumping and doing gymnastics with the
rest of West Mountain Camp s population. But instead, I felt forced into a reputation created for me so

Technology Impact On Society
It is abundantly clear that the development of technology has had an impact on society. But there are
many theories as to what exactly the impact is, and how that impact affects the members of the
society. A few of the theories put forth are by Gerhard Lenski, Leslie White, and Alvin Toffler. There
are both similarities and differences to each of these theories. Let s consider each theory separately,
then we will have a clearer idea of how they relate to each other and how they vary.
Gerhard Lenski was a sociologist who believed that a society s ability to survive is governed by its
level of technology; that is, society changes, survives, and evolves through technological
advancement. Information and communication are key to progress. Most notably, the greater the
knowledge of the natural world, the better the ability to improve society. He identified four stages of
communication. The first, which could also be called biological communication, is the transfer of
genetic information to a new generation. Second is awareness of self and the world around us, or
sentience. Next, is the capability for logic. Collective goals can be served on the basis of observation
and analysis. Finally, there is the mastery of various forms of communication language, writing, and
symbols. This last stage sets the foundation for civilization. Additionally, Lenski suggested four levels
of technological development. First, a hand to mouth existence, called hunter gatherer. Next, farming

Taking a Look at Peripheral Neuropathy
Peripheral neuropathy is a fairly common neurological problem and is a generalized term that means
that there is a disorder in the peripheral nervous system. Being that this is a broad definition and
includes many varieties and causes of peripheral nerve disease, a proper diagnosis is needed for the
definition to be specified. The overall prevalence of the condition is about 2400 (2·4%) per 100 000
population, but in people older than 55 years, the prevalence rises to about 8000 (8%) per 100 000.
(Simpson, 2010) Yet this does not include traumatic peripheral nerve injuries meaning that the number
of peripheral neuropathy in our society is greater. In first world countries, the most common cause of
peripheral neuropathy is diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases
characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both.
(Loganathan, 2006) Due to the fact that the diagnose of diabetes mellitus has increased in our general
population of the USA, the amount people in risk of diabetic peripheral neuropathy is also expected to
increase.
In our case we are dealing with diabetic peripheral neuropathy that results from nerve damage due to
the high blood glucose levels diabetics. About 60 to 70 percent of people who have had diabetes for
many years have some form of nerve damage, but not everyone has symptoms. (Inzucchi, 2012)
Common types of diabetic neuropathy are those that affect the limbs along with the

As we head towards the DNC, I often hear the question What does Bernie want? Sanders said to over
a thousand of supporters gathered in The Town Hall venue near Times Square. This is not about what
Bernie Sanders want, it s about you and millions of other people who want a political revolution.
Framing out his convention platform fight, Sanders made clear the populist agenda he will push in the
upcoming convention. He specifically pointed to the rules and platform committee in seeking to
changes rules regarding to eliminating closed primaries and eliminate superdelegates.
As we speak, literally, there are meetings of the Democratic platform committee that will come out of
the Democratic convention that will be by far the most progressive platform in the history, Sanders

Essay On Macy s Department Store
In this paper, I will discuss the use of research within Macy s department store and some of the
different ways and, they might be, able to use research to help with the problems their having, if the
company is effective or ineffective in the use of research to help the organization, are they might be
using secondary and primary research, and what the company might do in the future to expand
research.
Macy and Problems
I picked Macy s for my company it was founded in 1843 and 1855 the original Macy s store is in
Haverhill, Massachusetts, by Rowland Hussey Macy, Sr. They deal in high quality Clothing, footwear,
accessories, bedding, furniture, jewelry, beauty products, and housewares. Macy s has a couple issues,
but the biggest one is the dependence on the US economy for its revenue generation, while a few of
their competitors, such as The Gap and Wal Mart Stores get a lot of their revenue from other countries,
also a lot of customers are not really buying a lot of items in the malls and are doing a lot of internet
shopping for Christmas. The use of research would really help Macy s if they researched better ways
to attract people through the web by either using surveys, or researching about how some of their
competitors can stay ahead in the industry. Also, another good thing would be to research some
different countries to see if they can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of It s Complicated By Dana Boyd
In her book It s complicated Dana Boyd explores adolescents usage of social media. Her book covers
seven different facets of social media usage. Those being: Identity, bullying, privacy, addiction,
danger, inequality, literacy, and being public. Boyd uses countless personal interviews with teenagers
varying in age but primarily teens ranging from ages 13 17. Her main objective throughout the novel
is to empathize with today s youth to better understand how and why they use social media. She
believes that a lack of understanding by older generations is what leads to the negative stigma around
the younger generation and it s social media usage. Throughout the book you can find thematic
elements of power, social norms, and race. Boyd believes the teen network phenomenon is not a
completely new concept but one that is a deviation from past events. The introduction of any new
technology to our society has been meet with skepticism and disapproval because of the fear of the
unknown. When paper was introduced society fear people would forget how to remember things.
When the Television was introduced the populous fear that it would destroy the radio. All forms of
new technology would have to endure a period of hate before they could be accepted by society. Boyd
says that online social media is the next platform that the older generation hasn t seem to fully reach

Essay about An Analysis of Yeats The Second Coming
An Analysis of Yeats The Second Coming
Yeats poem The Second Coming, written in 1919 and published in 1921 in his collection of poems
Michael Robartes and the Dancer, taps into the concept of the gyre and depicts the approach of a new
world order. The gyre is one of Yeats favorite motifs, the idea that history occurs in cycles, specifically
cycles twenty centuries in length (Yeats, The Second Coming ln. 19). In this poem, Yeats predicts that
the Christian era will soon give way apocalyptically to an era ruled by a godlike desert beast with the
body of a lion and the head of a man (ln. 14). Critics have argued about the exact meaning of this
image, but a close reading of the poem, combined with some simple genetic work, shows ... Show

7 8), and his central images, the rocking cradle of Christ (ln. 20) to the rough beast (ln. 21).
Other kinds of echoes, literary rather than poetic, emerge as well; Yeats connects The Second Coming
with Shelley s Prometheus Unbound in lines 7 and 8, The best lack all conviction, while the worst/Are
full of passionate intensity (Drake 53), and even, Jeffares suggests, the Divine Comedy, by altering the
hawk of an earlier draft to more closely resemble the ample circuit of a falcon described in Dante s
masterpiece (A Commentary 241). Yeats surely made these allusions to borrow the literary scale of
these prophetic masterpieces. But far more important in this respect is his borrowings from the Bible.
Most central and obvious are the Second Coming of Christ described in Matthew 24 and the beast of
the apocalypse from Revelations, but Purdy also notes the vision chapters of Daniel (7 12), Isaiah s
prophecy of the Day of the Lord (14.6 11, 19 22), old Ezekiel s cherubim (10.1ff), and Jeremiah s
denunciation of Isreal (2) (75), not to mention Yeats location of the beast s birth at Bethlehem, the
birthplace of Christ two thousand years ago (Jeffares, W. B. Yeats 38). The Bible is, of course, the
western world s primary work of prophecy, and Yeats use of its language gives his own work a tone of
prophecy.
The tool of Yeats prophecy, crystallized in the widening gyre traced by the falcon, is a concept Yeats

Police Brutality And The Riot
During 1992 in South Central Los Angeles, a riot started after the news of four white Los Angeles
police officers beating Rodney King was published on TV. It became daily news. The riot caused
many crimes to occur; participants of the riot burned down business stores, destroyed properties, and
some activities involved guns that have led to many deaths. Many South Central residents were
unsatisfied with police brutality and the way their community were being treated. Although the riot
only lasted for about a week, about 52 people were killed (Kivisto and Rundblad 82). The whole
neighborhood were ruined and destroyed. Ever since that riot, there were over 1 million property loss
(Kivisto and Rundblad 82), and over 700 businesses were burned down (Bergesen and Herman para.
1). Many people lost their jobs because their workplace were destroyed.
There were many different reasons that may have caused the 1992 riot in Los Angeles to occur.
However, not all of them were the main reasons of the riot. There were many side causes, for instance,
after the video of Rodney King being beaten was shown on television, residents of South Central Los
Angeles started to act up. They were affected by how King was being mistreated and how police
brutality played a big role in the video and their society. King s incident was very similar to many
other cases. For example, Anna Deavere Smith mentioned a case about Michael Zinzun from her book

Some threats can adversely affect the business of Sears Holdings Corporation. The most prominent
risk faced by Sears Holding Corporation is the competition among the local, national and international
retail companies. Top three competitors of the group are J.C Penney Corporation Inc., Target
Corporation and Wal Mart Stores Inc. (Hoovers, 2011). The retail business is a cut throat competition.
The market players have a multitude of companies across various states and around the globe.
Moreover, many companies are merging and becoming large entities. If any merger of the magnitude
equal to Sears can have an impact on the market position and share of the Sears Holdings Corporation
Sear s revenue growth will likely be affected. The housing market crisis, as well as the increased food
and utility prices, change the buying power of the people by leaving the consumers with less
disposable income. At that point, the lowest pay permitted by law rate set by the US government has
expanded the work expenses of the organizations worked in the United States which has, thus,
developed their costs of operating together in the business sectors (Insley, 2011).

Curfews Keep Teens Out of Trouble Do curfews keep teenagers out of trouble? This topic has always
been on the cover page of today s newspaper headlines and a hot topic that has been discussed by
every family. What are curfews like? A curfew is a time frame given by an authority like a parent or
the government to teenagers below 18 to be home before a certain period of time. So, ask yourself, do
you think that by implementing curfews into a teenager s life, he or she would keep out of trouble. Our
group has discussed and came to an agreement that curfews really do help teenagers keep out of
trouble. Firstly, curfews help teenagers to stay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One other reason why curfews keep teens out of trouble is that curfews set by parents are a way of
showing that the parents care about the teen. (Boekestein, 2010) suggests that teens actually want to
spend time with their parents but do not know how to. A curfew is the brainchild of parents all over
the world to make sure that their teen is safe and also to be able to spend quality time with them while
they still can. Without the curfew, teens would spend all their time with their friends but miss out on
the most important people of all, which are their parents. Although it might not seem that curfews are
a way to spend time with the teen, it surely is. According to (Boekestein, 2010), a teen said what all
teens were trying to say, which is they don t care about other things in life, they love their parents and
would like to spend more time with them than they normally do. A teen also said that he only talks to
his parents in the car or during dinner as their hectic schedule demands the parents to be on their toes
all the time. As (Boss, 2012) suggests, teens should have effective communication skills to make sure
that what they want and what their parents think they want are the same. This could lead to extensions
of curfews or even better understanding of each other. It also helps in the long run as it improves the
teen parent relationship. Good

Finally, methods of mitigation will be examined and critically evaluated based on their potential to
halt the effects of carbon dioxide on climate change.
Climate change is a large scale change in the planet s weather systems or its average temperature. The
Earth s climate may change within varying timescales in response to natural factors. On the scale of
tens of thousands of years the climate changes through glacial and interglacial periods; whereas it
changes through the timescale of years occurs due to the effects of El Niño and La Niña which
temporarily change the Earth s temperature and regional scale weather patterns. (Met office, 2015)
Carbon dioxide is a minor component of the Earth s atmosphere accounting for approximately 0.04%.
Despite carbon dioxide s relatively low atmospheric concentration, it s believed that it is the most
important long long lived forcing of climate change in the atmosphere. (Pachauri Reisinger, 2007)
The Carbon Cycle
The measurement of atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has been measured
directly since 1957. Prior to 1957, atmospheric concentrations and isotope records consisted of
evidence from ice cores, moss cores, packrat middens, tree rings, and measurements of isotope ratios
in planktonic and benthic foraminifera. Out of the methods discussed, ice cores are by far the best

Ethnography of Tea
Background
China
The origins of tea are rooted in China (Food Timeline). According to legend, the beneficial properties
of tea were first discovered by the Emperor Shen Nung in the year 2737 B.C. He drank only boiled
water for hygienic purposes, and one day while he drank a breeze rustled the branches of a tree and a
few leaves fell into his cup. Creating the first cup of tea. It is challenging to know whether or not the
emperor was real or just a part of the spiritual and cultural development of ancient China. China was
not unified as an empire until the third century, so it is unlikely emperors existed back then. One thing
that is known is that tea was popular in China thousands of years ago. The first written reference of tea
is in the third century B.C. A famous surgeon recommended the beverage to patients to increase
concentration and alertness. Tea was first written as tu in ancient texts. This caused a good deal of
confusion because the same Chinese character was used for both tea and Chinese sow thistles.
Between 206 B.C. and A.D. 220 a Han Dynasty emperor ruled that when referring to tea, the
characters should be pronounced as cha . From here on, tracing tea s history became easier because tea
acquired its own individual character (Food Timeline).
Cultural Significance
China The Tang Dynasty (A.D. 618 906) was often referred to as the golden age of tea (Food
Timeline). This was the first time that tea was not only

almost immediately. He is the handsome sailor compared to the young Alexander and the fiery

masculine conjunction and goes under the nickname Baby Budd (Melville 6). There is immediately a
sense of sexual attraction attached to the title character. He is described in sexual terms and presented
as a prime physical example of a man. Inciting feelings of attraction and a sense of tranquility within
the men around him, the reader is shown right away that this is natural when it comes to Billy Budd.
Additionally, due to the fact that the feelings Billy Budd incites in people are introduced within the

attractiveness is exhaustedly described and it works to allow the reader to see just how easy it is to fall

How Optical Antennas Are An Emerging Concept Within...
1. Introduction
Optical antennas are an emerging concept in physical optics. Similar to radio wave and microwave
antennas, their purpose is to convert the energy of free propagating radiation to localized energy, and
vice versa. Optical antennas exploit the unique properties of metal nanostructures, which behave as
strongly coupled plasmas at optical frequencies.
Electromagnetic (EM) waves from low radiofrequencies (RF) to high optical frequencies pervade our
environment. They interact with matter by coupling directly to the motion of charge carriers. This
carrier motion can be associated with characteristic spectral resonances resulting from absorption and
emission of EM energy.
According to the IEEE Standard Definitions of Terms for Antennas, an antenna is defined as the part
of a transmitting or receiving system that is designed to radiate or to receive electromagnetic waves
[1]. Depending on the resonance properties, environment, and use, an antenna can be designed in all
sizes and shapes including linear dipoles, horns, dishes, apertures, and patches. Despite the different
form factors, all antennas operate under the same principle. They mediate the transformation between
propagating EM energy and localized or confined energy delivered to a load or emitted from a source
via coupling of the EM energy to electron motion. Although originally conceived for radio waves, the
antenna definition above notably does not constrain the frequency range of operation. The same

Social And Governmental Norms On The Lives Of Millions Of...
Ordinary Citizens in any situation can make a difference, if their will is great enough and their
situation desperate enough. In America s past, insubordination and uprising have been how this
country is shaped: whether it be revolting against Britain, demanding the end of slavery as a part of
the Civil War, or even gaining women s rights by marching in New York s streets. Uprising, even by a
single individual, against social and governmental norms has changed the course of history for
thousands of others. Rachel Carson is one of those citizens whose actions have altered the lives of
millions of Americans. Carson, a women raised in a typical early twentieth century american
household, went on to become a female enviromental scientist who published a revolutionary book
about organochlorine pesticides that began the environmental movement in the United States. Her
book, and her advocation for the environment, has lead to the changing of health and safety laws for
american citizens that still impact us today.
Rachel Carson was born in 1907 in Springdale Pennsylvania, and grew up on a farm with a typical

Computer Literacy And The Technology Essay
As the world changes to become a global village thorough technological innovations, computer
literacy gets considered as a very important skill to possess. This is fueled by the fact that nearly every
company has become more dependent on computers and other technology to boost its business
efficiency. Computer literacy is thus an important for one to understand how computers work and
operate and is defined as the knowledge and capability to use computers as well as other related
technology in an efficient manner. It entails the familiarity to computers and the skill of their use.
Most people around the world have access to computers and other devices that can connect to the
internet. It is through these gadgets that people can connect with each other, share stories and photos,
interact with clients and fellow company staff using the social networks. Therefore, social network
sites provide crucial computer literacy activity, as more people who use the internet learn to negotiate
interfaces, personal data and user agreements. By looking at the technological and social factors that
influence computer literacy practices in online networks would provide a basis for understanding the
impact such sites have on people and businesses. Social network sites are the web based services

Types Of Exorcism
Types of Exorcism
Prayer is a powerful tool in the battle against evil and is also a powerful tool in exorcism. When we
think about exorcisms, the first type of demonic activity that likely comes to mind is demonic
possession. Possession is the rarest form of spiritual activity but comes to mind of most people around
the world when we talk about exorcisms. Hollywood has capitalized on this type of demonic activity
and has created hundreds of movie titles based on this type of activity alone. However, the most
common exorcisms are not at all like one would witness on the big screen. In fact, most Christians
have probably said a form of minor exorcism prayer since the Our Father is considered to be one.
There are three main forms of exorcism that is practiced within the Anglican Church: exorcism of
objects, places and people.
Objects Almost any object, other than a holy one, can be infested.

This is a report compiled by Musawenkosi Nkabinde a student at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan
University while conducting practicals in the kingdom of Swaziland at a company called Montigny
Forest Products. It is a company of about plus minus 75 000 hacters where a variety of species are
planted e.g. Pinus elliote, Patula, Taeda, Pexq, Eucalyptus Smithii, dannai etc. All these are planted for
different products dominating one being the production of planks which means the company keeps
many of its trees for many years till they mature.
The main purpose of this report is to give clarity on the fire, to determine the origin, determine causes
of the fire, damages caused by the fire and to develop ideas on how can unwanted fires like these can
be prevented from reoccurring in our plantations like the one occurred in compartment C22 on the17

times. Circadian rhythms in the body tell us when it is time to sleep. Before sleeping, while alert, beta
waves appear on an EEG. During a state of relaxation, immediately prior to sleeping, alpha waves
appear on an EEG. After drifting off into sleep, the first sleep stage begins. This is characterized by
being the lightest stage of sleep, with brain waves being slow and irregular. After drifting further to
slumber, the second stage begins. Body temperature drops, and both heart rate and brain waves slow
down. Breathing becomes shallow as well.

The Importance Of Florida Lawn Pests
For many homeowners, South Florida is a paradise where mere lawns and yards can become luscious
landscapes. But families aren t the only ones to enjoy the tropical outdoors. Florida outdoor pests can
endanger the grounds around your home. Controlling Florida lawn pests are an important part of
South Florida life.
Among the common kinds of Florida outdoor pests are chinch bugs, which can cause major plant
damage. Whiteflies often attack and even kill ficus trees and hedges by feeding on the undersides of
leaves. They ve become a major part of Florida yard pests and can cause plant leaves to yellow or drop
off entirely, often covering the plant with flocculent, a white sticky material.
Pink hibiscus flowers may be lovely in your yard, but the

Still Alice Identity
A man is only a man as long as he deems himself to be as such. In the novels, Me Before You and Still
Alice the authors, Jojo Moyes and Lisa Genova suggest that hopelessness is inescapable when a
person is stripped of what they consider to be the core essence of themselves. Will Traynor, the male
protagonist in Me Before You is an adventurous young man who found his identity though the joy of
physical thrills yet he completely lost his mobility due to a motorcycle accident which shattered his
idea of himself. By contrast, for an academic like Alice Howland, the protagonist in Still Alice, her
identity is her intelligent mind which is gradually fading due to the fact that she has developed a case
of early onset Alzheimer s disease. Both individuals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Louisa remarks that Will, in his depression, ...stared out the windows like a dog denied a walk. (238).
Will is no longer the Will he used to be as he has lost so much of himself. He cannot see himself being
truly happy in the future if he has to live bound to his wheelchair. He has lost all of his hope and in his
eyes, death seems to be the only option left for him. This is the path he chooses for himself. Louisa
confesses her love for Will and he rejects her affections. Heartbroken, she vents to her sister saying, I
told him I loved him, she said, her voice dropping to a whisper. And he just said it wasn t enough.
(119). Louisa s love is not enough to revitalize his love of life. Everyday before his accident, Will
worked to achieve his dreams. He tells Louisa during one of their first encounters that, I worked out
what would make me happy, and I worked out what I wanted to do, and I trained myself to do the job
that would make those two things happen. (61). Will worked hard so he could live the way he wanted
to and one day the reason he worked so hard was stripped away from him. By the time Louisa meets
Will Traynor, he is already too far gone in his depression to find another reason to live. Will lost all of
his hope and in turn, lost all of his will to live. His hopelessness killed him, his depression was merely

Designing A Surrogate Server And Its Numerical Ip Address
In this approach, the DNS performs the mapping between a surrogate server s symbolic name and its
numerical IP address.
It is used for full site content selection and delivery.
In DNS based request routing, a domain name has multiple IP addresses associated to it. When an end
user s content request comes, the DNS server of the service provider returns the IP addresses of
servers holding the replica of the requested object. The client s DNS resolver chooses a server among
these. To decide, the resolver may issue probes to the servers and choose based on response times to
these probes. It may also collect historical information from the clients based on previous access to
these servers.
Advantage:
 DNS based approach is extremely popular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
URL rewriting
Though most CDN systems use a DNS based routing scheme, some systems use the URL rewriting. It
is mainly used for partial site content selection and delivery where embedded objects are sent as a
response to client requests.
In this approach, the origin server redirects the clients to different surrogate servers by rewriting the
dynamically generated pages URL links. For example, with a Web page containing an HTML file and
some embedded objects, the Web server would modify references to embedded objects so that the
client could fetch them from the best surrogate server.
To automate this process, CDNs provide special scripts that transparently parse Web page content and
replace embedded URLs
URL rewriting can be pro active or reactive.
 In the pro active URL rewriting, the URLs for embedded objects of the main HTML page are
formulated before the content is loaded in the origin server.
 In reactive approach involves rewriting the embedded URLs of a HTML page when the client
request reaches the origin server.
Advantage:
The main advantage of URL rewriting is that the clients are not bound to a single surrogate server,
because the rewritten URLs contain DNS names that point to a group of surrogate servers. Also finer
level of granularity can be achieved through this approach since embedded objects can be considered

On The Rainy River Character Analysis
Life can bring unexpected events that individuals might not be prepared to confront. This was the case
in the short story On The Rainy River written by Tim O Brien. Young Tim is drafted to the military to
fight the American War in Vietnam. He faces the conflict of whether he should or should not go to war
after being drafted. The thought of giving up the future he has worked so hard for and instead fight a
war for uncertain reasons terrifies him. He must make the agonizing decision of whether to pursue his
personal desire and in turn be shamed by society or conform, sacrificing his ideals in the process.
Through the initial characterization of young Tim, O Brien suggests that when faced with unexpected
life changing dilemmas people will more often than naught end up clouded judgement and panic.
Young Tim is ambitious and well educated, he is on his way to Harvard University on a scholarship.
His life is heading in the best direction possible. This is until he receives the draft letter. His ideals
hurtling down a huge black funnel and all he can do is nothing ...wait. His helpless soon becomes
rage, rage towards the government who s motives for the war were shrouded in uncertainty . He is too
good for this war. Too smart, too compassionate, too everything. Why don t they draft some back to
the stone age hawk? Why must he, who doesn t support this uncertain war put [his] own precious
fluids on the line. As the rage in [his] stomach burned down he soon

The Melting Pot
In this paper, I will argue that although many believe it is advantageous to teach children
colorblindness to race, it is essential for them to recognize the racial differences in society. America is
traditionally known as the melting pot because our society encompasses all cultures representing every
country in the world. There is no doubt that race is one of the most central topics in American culture.
How do we expect children to disregard the obscure differences they observe in school, at the
playground and in media? Some well intended parents believe that their children should no longer see
the color in people and encourage them to view them as equal beings. They may neglect questions
they may have of other people and regard them as being racist and rude. However, this technique may
stir confusion in kids especially when the core of early education is to determine differences from
apple to orange, dog and cat, and one and two. How do we answer children when they come home
from school and ask why a classmate looks different than they do? Is it moral to deny the evident
observances children distinguish on their own? I was raised in a mixed Puerto Rican and Ecuadorian
household in a low income area of the Bronx. I lived in a community with many Hispanics, African
Americans, and a few Asian Americans. In my situation, I was fully aware of racial differences. The
wealthier white people lived in Manhattan and people like me lived in impoverished areas only a few

The Effects Of Cumulative Cultural Evolution On The Learning
Effects of Cumulative Cultural Evolution in Emulation Learning In the context of evolution, culture is
a shared system of socially transmitted behaviour that describes, defines, and guides people s ways of
life, communicated from one generation (Matsumoto, 2006, p. 220). Evolution has seen humans
attaining unique behavioural adaptations, that one cannot acquire in a single lifetime, cumulate over
generations (Henrich McElreath, 2003) and the accumulation of these successive cultural adaptations
across generations is cumulative cultural evolution (Boyd Richerdson, 1996). Laboratory studies on
cultural evolution have used microsocieties to simulate different generations in a population. In such
studies, participants are replaced with a naïve participant within their groups to symbolize the end of a
generation and this continues for a few generations (Baum, Richerson, Efferson, Paciotti, 2004). Many
cultural artefacts and practices share an essential characteristic of being accumulative (Tomasello,
Krugera, Ratner, 1993). Cumulative cultural evolution can occur when a generation makes adaptations
to a behavior learnt from the previous generation. The following generation, too, adapts the behavior,
and this continues across generations. This effect is believed to be attributable to processes of social
learning (Tennie, Call, Tomasello, 2009). Social learning theory proposes that individuals can learn in
a social context, for example, by observing others

  • 2. Applying Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the... The classic stories Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the looking Glass by Lewis Carroll consist of dreamlike adventures in a crazy world of nonsense. However this nonsense can be deciphered into a complex new system of thinking. This way of thinking can be transferred and directly applied to the mind. How the mind works, its many varying functions, and lastly the unconscious mind can all be tied to Alice. The unconscious mind can be compared to Alice, as can a dreamlike state of mind. In the first book Lewis Carroll wrote, it never states that Alice is dreaming. It does infer that she is, though, by way of saying it was a warm day, which would make one drowsy. You can imagine slowly drifting off and all of the sudden ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So in her unconscious mind, she creates a new world of her own, filled to the brim with nonsense. As she goes on to explore it, her adventures lead her to the conclusion that society has these rules for a reason. Alice appears to be more mature at the end of this dream, showing you can learn from yourself, through your unconscious mind. The part of the brain that controls dreams is called the Pons. This region of brain near the base of the skull transports information to the thalamus, which controls the learning and thinking aspects of the brain. Sigmund Freud believed that dreams acted as a safety valve for desires. This could mean that Alice truly wanted a world of ridiculousness, but knew better, but just had to prove it to herself, subconsciously. Thus, it was like a safety net, because she never really did any of the nonsensical things, but still learned from it. (NINDS) To put it in a way, we ARE Alice. We can be relatively compared to her, psychologically. Alice is confused in her mind, and hates the way things are. She doesn t see the reason behind some things. We can be that way about things at times. Alice learned from her dreams though, before she went berserk. This happens to us too, in a way. • 3. Relationship Between Family And Family Introduction Many would agree that the dynamics of the family structure have changed drastically. Families are faced with many challenges, often times outside intervention is necessary in coping with the plethora of issues families face. We are living in a time of increased racial tensions, stress, bullying, domestic violence, mental illness, same sex marriage, drug abuse, increased divorce rates, blended families, and cohabitation. The use of Marriage and family therapists appears to be increasing. According to Gladding, (2004), 56.9 million people utilized marriage and family therapists. This paper will discuss the understanding of marriage and family therapists and the family life cycle. In addition the blended family is discussed as it relates to the role of the marriage, and family counselor. An overview of the preventative wellness measures that could apply to preblended families is also reviewed. Understanding of the family life cycle as it applies to counselors working with couples and families. My understanding of the family life cycle as it applies to counselors is that it is complex and a direct correlation between the fit of the therapists life stage along with the family (Gladding, 2004). We have many strong taboos and laws back home and breaking one can be extremely objectional in society, thus leading to harsh punishments. Homosexuality is considered as one of the biggest taboos in Eritrea. People still have so many wrong assumptions about homosexuals based on different motives. Having spent almost two decades of my life in Eritrea, my opinions and beliefs on homosexuals have somehow been negatively affected in the past but I was able to change that after I moved out of the country and started to expose myself to people from different cultures and backgrounds. People don #39;t really talk about homosexuality back home. It #39;s not an argument or a topic that you bring up and talk about in public or even between friends. We just considered homosexuality to be wrong. As simple as that. In a country where homosexuality is illegal, you can imagine how someone would feel if he/she came out as gay. Gay people wouldn t come out to their parents fearing they would be refused and abandoned. Even accusing someone of being gay, whether he/she is or not can have a life lasting impact in his/her social life. Personally, I have never heard of someone going through this situation. There is so much fear of being identified as gay that you barely hear rumors about someone being a homosexual as they always have to be cautious. That #39;s why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Theory Of Organizational Change Literature Synthesis The idea of change can alarm any system and lead to unexpected reactions from the members associated with the system. As the change begins to be implemented, these uncertainties intensify and can lead to crisis. This phenomenon becomes even more crucial when the system involves an organization with leaders and those members with non managerial responsibilities. When change is being implemented within an organization by its leaders, the consequences of it can be underestimated or ignored by them, resulting in crises and, eventually, failure of the change efforts. In order for change to succeed, specifically in today s business world, where organizations are constantly undergoing change at a fast rate, companies should educate their employees in understanding and supporting change. Taking both organizational and employee perspectives into account, Armenakis and Bedeian (1999) have reviewed major research publications on the theory of organizational change from 1987 to 1999. To set a basis for selecting from the vast number of the available material, their study was concentrated on those researches focusing on the fundamentals of organizational change dynamics. The researchers acknowledge the effect of the extent of their resource selection on the literature review outcome, stating that their choice of subject area will provide a deeper understanding of the existing approaches governing organizational change. Once you get beyond the lengthy moniker for this unusual plug in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), calling it e tron or A3 e tron seems entirely appropriate. But there are many theories as to what exactly the impact is, and how that impact affects the members of the society. A few of the theories put forth are by Gerhard Lenski, Leslie White, and Alvin Toffler. There are both similarities and differences to each of these theories. Let s consider each theory separately, then we will have a clearer idea of how they relate to each other and how they vary. Gerhard Lenski was a sociologist who believed that a society s ability to survive is governed by its level of technology; that is, society changes, survives, and evolves through technological advancement. Information and communication are key to progress. Most notably, the greater the knowledge of the natural world, the better the ability to improve society. He identified four stages of communication. The first, which could also be called biological communication, is the transfer of genetic information to a new generation. Second is awareness of self and the world around us, or sentience. Next, is the capability for logic. Collective goals can be served on the basis of observation and analysis. Her main objective throughout the novel is to empathize with today s youth to better understand how and why they use social media. She believes that a lack of understanding by older generations is what leads to the negative stigma around the younger generation and it s social media usage. Throughout the book you can find thematic elements of power, social norms, and race. • 26. Essay about An Analysis of Yeats The Second Coming An Analysis of Yeats The Second Coming Yeats poem The Second Coming, written in 1919 and published in 1921 in his collection of poems Michael Robartes and the Dancer, taps into the concept of the gyre and depicts the approach of a new world order. The gyre is one of Yeats favorite motifs, the idea that history occurs in cycles, specifically cycles twenty centuries in length (Yeats, The Second Coming ln. 19). In this poem, Yeats predicts that the Christian era will soon give way apocalyptically to an era ruled by a godlike desert beast with the body of a lion and the head of a man (ln. 14). Critics have argued about the exact meaning of this image, but a close reading of the poem, combined with some simple genetic work, shows ... Other kinds of echoes, literary rather than poetic, emerge as well; Yeats connects The Second Coming with Shelley s Prometheus Unbound in lines 7 and 8, The best lack all conviction, while the worst/Are full of passionate intensity (Drake 53), and even, Jeffares suggests, the Divine Comedy, by altering the hawk of an earlier draft to more closely resemble the ample circuit of a falcon described in Dante s masterpiece (A Commentary 241). Yeats surely made these allusions to borrow the literary scale of these prophetic masterpieces. But far more important in this respect is his borrowings from the Bible. Most central and obvious are the Second Coming of Christ described in Matthew 24 and the beast of the apocalypse from Revelations, but Purdy also notes the vision chapters of Daniel (7 12), Isaiah s prophecy of the Day of the Lord (14.6 11, 19 22), old Ezekiel s cherubim (10.1ff), and Jeremiah s denunciation of Isreal (2) (75), not to mention Yeats location of the beast s birth at Bethlehem, the birthplace of Christ two thousand years ago (Jeffares, W. B. Yeats 38). The Bible is, of course, the western world s primary work of prophecy, and Yeats use of its language gives his own work a tone of prophecy. • 27. Police Brutality And The Riot During 1992 in South Central Los Angeles, a riot started after the news of four white Los Angeles police officers beating Rodney King was published on TV. It became daily news. The riot caused many crimes to occur; participants of the riot burned down business stores, destroyed properties, and some activities involved guns that have led to many deaths. Many South Central residents were unsatisfied with police brutality and the way their community were being treated. Although the riot only lasted for about a week, about 52 people were killed (Kivisto and Rundblad 82). The whole neighborhood were ruined and destroyed. Ever since that riot, there were over 1 million property loss (Kivisto and Rundblad 82), and over 700 businesses were burned down (Bergesen and Herman para. 1). Many people lost their jobs because their workplace were destroyed. There were many different reasons that may have caused the 1992 riot in Los Angeles to occur. However, not all of them were the main reasons of the riot. There were many side causes, for instance, after the video of Rodney King being beaten was shown on television, residents of South Central Los Angeles started to act up. They were affected by how King was being mistreated and how police brutality played a big role in the video and their society. King s incident was very similar to many other cases. One other reason why curfews keep teens out of trouble is that curfews set by parents are a way of showing that the parents care about the teen. (Boekestein, 2010) suggests that teens actually want to spend time with their parents but do not know how to. A curfew is the brainchild of parents all over the world to make sure that their teen is safe and also to be able to spend quality time with them while they still can. Without the curfew, teens would spend all their time with their friends but miss out on the most important people of all, which are their parents. Although it might not seem that curfews are a way to spend time with the teen, it surely is. According to (Boekestein, 2010), a teen said what all teens were trying to say, which is they don t care about other things in life, they love their parents and would like to spend more time with them than they normally do. A teen also said that he only talks to his parents in the car or during dinner as their hectic schedule demands the parents to be on their toes all the time. As (Boss, 2012) suggests, teens should have effective communication skills to make sure that what they want and what their parents think they want are the same. This could lead to extensions of curfews or even better understanding of each other. It also helps in the long run as it improves the teen parent relationship. Good ... • 33. Cultural Development Of Ancient China Ella Sarachan 12/3/2015 Ethnography of Tea Background China The origins of tea are rooted in China (Food Timeline). According to legend, the beneficial properties of tea were first discovered by the Emperor Shen Nung in the year 2737 B.C. He drank only boiled water for hygienic purposes, and one day while he drank a breeze rustled the branches of a tree and a few leaves fell into his cup. Creating the first cup of tea. It is challenging to know whether or not the emperor was real or just a part of the spiritual and cultural development of ancient China. China was not unified as an empire until the third century, so it is unlikely emperors existed back then. One thing that is known is that tea was popular in China thousands of years ago. The first written reference of tea is in the third century B.C. A famous surgeon recommended the beverage to patients to increase concentration and alertness. Tea was first written as tu in ancient texts. This caused a good deal of confusion because the same Chinese character was used for both tea and Chinese sow thistles. Between 206 B.C. and A.D. 220 a Han Dynasty emperor ruled that when referring to tea, the characters should be pronounced as cha . From here on, tracing tea s history became easier because tea acquired its own individual character (Food Timeline). • 36. How Optical Antennas Are An Emerging Concept Within... 1. Introduction Optical antennas are an emerging concept in physical optics. Similar to radio wave and microwave antennas, their purpose is to convert the energy of free propagating radiation to localized energy, and vice versa. Optical antennas exploit the unique properties of metal nanostructures, which behave as strongly coupled plasmas at optical frequencies. Electromagnetic (EM) waves from low radiofrequencies (RF) to high optical frequencies pervade our environment. They interact with matter by coupling directly to the motion of charge carriers. This carrier motion can be associated with characteristic spectral resonances resulting from absorption and emission of EM energy. According to the IEEE Standard Definitions of Terms for Antennas, an antenna is defined as the part of a transmitting or receiving system that is designed to radiate or to receive electromagnetic waves [1]. Depending on the resonance properties, environment, and use, an antenna can be designed in all sizes and shapes including linear dipoles, horns, dishes, apertures, and patches. Despite the different form factors, all antennas operate under the same principle. They mediate the transformation between propagating EM energy and localized or confined energy delivered to a load or emitted from a source via coupling of the EM energy to electron motion. Although originally conceived for radio waves, the antenna definition above notably does not constrain the frequency range of operation. The same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both individuals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Louisa remarks that Will, in his depression, ...stared out the windows like a dog denied a walk. (238). Will is no longer the Will he used to be as he has lost so much of himself. He cannot see himself being truly happy in the future if he has to live bound to his wheelchair. He has lost all of his hope and in his eyes, death seems to be the only option left for him. This is the path he chooses for himself. Louisa confesses her love for Will and he rejects her affections. Heartbroken, she vents to her sister saying, I told him I loved him, she said, her voice dropping to a whisper. And he just said it wasn t enough. (119). Louisa s love is not enough to revitalize his love of life. Everyday before his accident, Will worked to achieve his dreams. He tells Louisa during one of their first encounters that, I worked out what would make me happy, and I worked out what I wanted to do, and I trained myself to do the job that would make those two things happen. (61). Will worked hard so he could live the way he wanted to and one day the reason he worked so hard was stripped away from him. By the time Louisa meets Will Traynor, he is already too far gone in his depression to find another reason to live. Will lost all of his hope and in turn, lost all of his will to live. His hopelessness killed him, his depression was merely a side ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Designing A Surrogate Server And Its Numerical Ip Address In this approach, the DNS performs the mapping between a surrogate server s symbolic name and its numerical IP address. It is used for full site content selection and delivery. In DNS based request routing, a domain name has multiple IP addresses associated to it. When an end user s content request comes, the DNS server of the service provider returns the IP addresses of servers holding the replica of the requested object. The client s DNS resolver chooses a server among these. To decide, the resolver may issue probes to the servers and choose based on response times to these probes. It may also collect historical information from the clients based on previous access to these servers. Advantage:  DNS based approach is extremely popular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... URL rewriting Though most CDN systems use a DNS based routing scheme, some systems use the URL rewriting. It is mainly used for partial site content selection and delivery where embedded objects are sent as a response to client requests. In this approach, the origin server redirects the clients to different surrogate servers by rewriting the dynamically generated pages URL links. For example, with a Web page containing an HTML file and some embedded objects, the Web server would modify references to embedded objects so that the client could fetch them from the best surrogate server. To automate this process, CDNs provide special scripts that transparently parse Web page content and replace embedded URLs URL rewriting can be pro active or reactive.  In the pro active URL rewriting, the URLs for embedded objects of the main HTML page are formulated before the content is loaded in the origin server.  In reactive approach involves rewriting the embedded URLs of a HTML page when the client request reaches the origin server. Advantage: The main advantage of URL rewriting is that the clients are not bound to a single surrogate server, because the rewritten URLs contain DNS names that point to a group of surrogate servers. Also finer level of granularity can be achieved through this approach since embedded objects can be considered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. On The Rainy River Character Analysis Life can bring unexpected events that individuals might not be prepared to confront. This was the case in the short story On The Rainy River written by Tim O Brien. Young Tim is drafted to the military to fight the American War in Vietnam. He faces the conflict of whether he should or should not go to war after being drafted. The thought of giving up the future he has worked so hard for and instead fight a war for uncertain reasons terrifies him. He must make the agonizing decision of whether to pursue his personal desire and in turn be shamed by society or conform, sacrificing his ideals in the process. Through the initial characterization of young Tim, O Brien suggests that when faced with unexpected life changing dilemmas people will more often than naught end up clouded judgement and panic. Young Tim is ambitious and well educated, he is on his way to Harvard University on a scholarship. His life is heading in the best direction possible. This is until he receives the draft letter. His ideals hurtling down a huge black funnel and all he can do is nothing ...wait. His helpless soon becomes rage, rage towards the government who s motives for the war were shrouded in uncertainty . He is too good for this war. Too smart, too compassionate, too everything. Why don t they draft some back to the stone age hawk? Why must he, who doesn t support this uncertain war put [his] own precious fluids on the line. As the rage in [his] stomach burned down he soon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Melting Pot In this paper, I will argue that although many believe it is advantageous to teach children colorblindness to race, it is essential for them to recognize the racial differences in society. America is traditionally known as the melting pot because our society encompasses all cultures representing every country in the world. There is no doubt that race is one of the most central topics in American culture. How do we expect children to disregard the obscure differences they observe in school, at the playground and in media? Some well intended parents believe that their children should no longer see the color in people and encourage them to view them as equal beings. They may neglect questions they may have of other people and regard them as being racist and rude. However, this technique may stir confusion in kids especially when the core of early education is to determine differences from apple to orange, dog and cat, and one and two. How do we answer children when they come home from school and ask why a classmate looks different than they do? Is it moral to deny the evident observances children distinguish on their own? I was raised in a mixed Puerto Rican and Ecuadorian household in a low income area of the Bronx. I lived in a community with many Hispanics, African Americans, and a few Asian Americans. In my situation, I was fully aware of racial differences. The wealthier white people lived in Manhattan and people like me lived in impoverished areas only a few ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Effects Of Cumulative Cultural Evolution On The Learning Effects of Cumulative Cultural Evolution in Emulation Learning In the context of evolution, culture is a shared system of socially transmitted behaviour that describes, defines, and guides people s ways of life, communicated from one generation (Matsumoto, 2006, p. 220). Evolution has seen humans attaining unique behavioural adaptations, that one cannot acquire in a single lifetime, cumulate over generations (Henrich McElreath, 2003) and the accumulation of these successive cultural adaptations across generations is cumulative cultural evolution (Boyd Richerdson, 1996). Laboratory studies on cultural evolution have used microsocieties to simulate different generations in a population. In such studies, participants are replaced with a naïve participant within their groups to symbolize the end of a generation and this continues for a few generations (Baum, Richerson, Efferson, Paciotti, 2004). Many cultural artefacts and practices share an essential characteristic of being accumulative (Tomasello, Krugera, Ratner, 1993). Cumulative cultural evolution can occur when a generation makes adaptations to a behavior learnt from the previous generation. The following generation, too, adapts the behavior, and this continues across generations. This effect is believed to be attributable to processes of social learning (Tennie, Call, Tomasello, 2009). Social learning theory proposes that individuals can learn in a social context, for example, by observing others ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
