Racial Discrimination Essay
They say the government mislead the youth? Tell them that there, is the truth... Throughout the 20th
century and continuing through the 21st century, the United States of America is now more diverse
than it has ever been. While being more diverse than previously, minorities are continuously being
portrayed as less than they are worth. Minorities have made significant strides towards equality in
American society. The three examples media persuades individuals perception of other ethnic groups
is through creating a perception that Caucasian is the standard beauty, misrepresentation of other
races, and favoritism towards certain races in films. A tactic that media uses is by pushing the idea that
being Caucasian is the standard of beauty. A prime example of the effect the media has on individuals
is, The Doll Test . The Doll Test is an experiment which was conducted by doctors Kenneth and
Mamie Clark in the 1940s. The experiment was conducted to study the psychological effects of
segregation on African American children. The Clarks took a group of children between the ages of
three and seven, and gave them two different dolls, which were identical except for their skin color
goal of the experiment was to use four dolls which were identical excluding its skin color, to test
children s racial perceptions. The Doctors then asked the following questions, Which doll is good? and
Which doll is prettier? and Which do you want to play with? This experiment brought the idea of

Case Study Assessment At A Birmingham Podiatry Clinic
Case study assessment.
A 47 year old female patient attends a Birmingham podiatry clinic with callus and heloma durum
presenting on the plantar surface of the 1st MTPJ of the left foot. The patient is generally fit and well,
and requires routine treatment.
To enable the podiatrist to treat callus and corn, they must first understand the biological process that
leads to the pathology. Callus, or hyperkeratosis, a diffuse area of relatively even thickness (Lorimer et
al.1997), is formed from hypertrophy of the superficial layer of the epidermis, the stratum corneum,
and reduced desquamation rate causing the skin to increase layers and harden (Fig 1). Mechanical

I Am Joaquin Poem Analysis
During the 1960 s, the Civil Rights Movement wasn t the only one occurring. Struggling to assimilate
into American culture, and suppressed by social injustices convicted by their Anglo counterparts, the
Chicano movement was born. In the epic poem I am Joaquin written by Rodolfo Gonzales in 1969, we
dive into what it means to be a Chicano. Through this poem, we see the struggles of the Chicano
people portrayed by the narrator, in an attempt to grasp the American s attention during the time of
these movements. Hoping to shed light on the issues and struggles the Chicano population faced,
Gonzales writes this epic in an attempt to strengthen the movement taking place, and to give Chicanos
a sense of belonging and solidarity in this now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many times, these Chicanos were pushed off their lands and forced to try and survive elsewhere. I
owned land as far as the eye could see under the Crown of Spain, and I toiled on my earth and gave
my Indian sweat and blood for the Spanish master who ruled tyranny over man and beast and all that
he could trample. But... THE GROUND WAS MINE. This is what life was like before the Spanish
American War and before the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This was life before Chicanos were
pushed off their land because Anglos fought the documents in court. This is before the treaty that was
supposed to protect their rights fell through. This is when life was hard, but it was a life they knew and
a struggle they lived with. Although Chicanos have endured many struggles, this is one they want to
fight for. Chicanos faced another problem along with their land being taken and being treated as
second class citizens. Assimilating into American culture was difficult. Do you keep in touch with the
roots of your homeland or do you change and adapt to the new ways of American culture? This was a
struggle for Chicanos and it was difficult to adapt. A new language and a new culture in a place they
once called their home. Some people tried to fit into both cultures, putting them into somewhere else
entirely. This didn t help their sense of belonging, and ultimately casted them farther as outsiders than
before.

Asian Cultures And American Cultures Essay
Culture: Earth is bigger than what most people think; it consists of 7 continents, 7 seas, and 196
different countries. Taking that into consideration, our earth currently is supporting over 7 billion
people worldwide. That is 7 billion people who are different and individuals who share different
thoughts, ideas, backgrounds, and cultures. Cultures are very unique as they are different from country
to country. Some adopt cultures that society accept as the norm, while others adopt different types of
cultures; cultures that not many people, especially those outside from the country, can see eye to eye
and would sometimes find them rather extreme . When comparing Asian cultures and American
cultures side by side, we can easily identify the many differences between the two. For one, Asian
cultures are less open, more traditional and conservative in comparison to Americans. While
Americans promote liberty, independence, and values individualism; Asian countries, on the other
hand, are more fixated in keeping to the custom. Knowing this, it is not surprising to see Asian
countries have a more rigid and structured form of society compared to the Western counterparts. The
values, business structures and even priorities are different between the two and can easily be
distinguished. Singapore is a good example on the contrasting differences and representation of the
Asian cultures. Singapore: Singapore is a self governing city state located in Southeast Asia. It is one

Essay On Improved As A Writer
How I Have Improved as a Writer Ever since I started attending Mrs.Kigar s 1st hour Senior Comp.
class, my writing skills have expanded into a new level. I learned a lot about writing for example;
before this class I had never heard of parallelism and didn t know the impact it had on writing.
Another part of my stylistic learning was learning about transitions, semicolons, commas, and
apostrophes. I also wrote almost every different style of paper too which really helps in improving the
ability to write. One thing I have improved on is using sophisticated vocabulary in my papers. For
example, from my compare and contrast paper I wrote I said, The boxer engine also gives the exhaust
a much better sound, which is more dulcet to the ear. (Consolla, 1) This is a prime example of
sophisticated vocabulary use in my papers. Dashes have come to be very confusing for some people,
but after reading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Writing journals helps with flow and consistency. Before this class I could never write about a topic
for 300 words. Whenever I had to write a paper, I would always draw to a blank and never get
anything done. Thanks to writing journals I have improved on my flow and consistency to write stuff
down. Some people didn t like the movie we watched earlier in the semester, The Words; but I thought
it was a excellent movie. I thought it was the perfect movie to write a movie review on. I really like
movies and enjoy watching them and criticizing them, but I had never known the write way to do it.
The movie review essay really helped to improve my writing ability. The writing ability of me, Jack
Consolla, has improved quite well throughout the semester. I have written almost every single type of
essay and have gone into detail about them and have also gone into detailed stylistic learning about
grammar uses. I feel as if I m more ready for college and can t wait to get the ball

The Beginnings of Psychoanalysis
Sigmund Freud was the discoverer and inventor of psychoanalysis and coined the term in 1896 after
publishing studies on Hysteria with Joseph Breuer in 1895. Psychoanalysis still remains unsurpassed
in its approach to understanding human motivation, character development, and psychopathology.
Freud s insights and analyses of psychic determinism, early childhood sexual development, and
unconscious processes have left an indelible mark on psychology (Korchin, 1983).

how conflicts related to the development of sexuality in childhood subsequently results in
psychopathology or neuroses. (Good Beitman)
Erik H Erickson is another Freudian in the field that has pioneered new territory in Psychoanalysis.
Erik Erikson was born June 15, 1902 in Frankfurt, Germany. His father, a Danish man, abandoned the
family before he was born. His young, Jewish mother later married a physician, Dr. Theodor
Homberger.
His interest in identity developed early based upon his own experiences in school. At his temple
school, the other children teased him for being Nordic because he was tall, blonde and blue eyed. At
grammar school, he was rejected because of his Jewish background.
After spending some time traveling throughout Europe, Erik Erikson studied psychoanalysis from
Anna Freud and earned a certificate from the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society. Erikson moved to the
United States in 1933 and was offered a teaching position at Harvard Medical School. In addition to
this, he also had a private practice in child psychoanalysis. Later, he held teaching positions at
University of California at Berkeley, Yale, San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute, Austen Riggs

Netflix And The Movie Rental Industry
Before becoming a force in the movie streaming and internet TV industry, Netflix was originally in
the movie rental industry. With competitors such as Blockbuster, Hollywood Entertainment and
Redbox, Netflix rose to be the leading Internet provider for Internet television and streaming thus
forcing Blockbuster and Hollywood Entertainment out of business. With the transformation of
consumer viewing in the American television industry, Netflix has over 75 million members who
stream more than 125 million hours of television shows and movies per day (Statista, 2016). Their
repertoire includes movies and original series that allow consumers to view at anytime and on any
screen in which Internet connectivity to the Internet is provided. In addition, Netflix continues to
deliver DVDs within the United States to the homes of consumers.
One critical issue was that customers did not like the increased subscription fees (Parnell, 2014). Mr.
Hastings proposed a plan to split the company into two separate entities in order to focus on DVD by
mail services and streaming services individually. Customers were not happy because this would
generate two different accounts to manage if customer had both services. Over 800,000 subscribers
canceled their subscriptions due to the proposed split.
The industry in which Netflix competes include both video rental and internet streaming. Initially their
competition was Blockbuster, Hollywood Entertainment and Redbox. Both Blockbuster and

Differences and Similarities between the Civil and Common...
Nowadays every legal system wants to achieve justice. Different legal traditions in the world have
given a different meaning of this concept by following one of the two legal systems: a civil law
system and a common law system. The civil law system emerged from Roman law and throughout
many centuries has been developed in continental Europe and often is called a continental legal
system , achieving its prominence through development of aqui communitare in Europe. The common
law system emerged in England during the Anglo Saxon period and was developed by British
colonies, reaching its peak in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
There are many differences as well as similarities between the civil and the common law judicial ...

In an adversary system the judge and jury as decision makers have a passive role in investigating and
gathering evidence and are responsible solely in deciding the case. In contrast, in an inquisitorial
system the judge holds a very active role in the process, by choosing which evidence to accept and
applying the law to the evidence in deciding the case. Supporters of the adversary system consider this
feature as an advantage because they believe that the justice is best achieved where the decision maker
is neutral, passive and impartial in deciding the case.
Distinction of roles between judges and juries is a further fundamental difference between the
adversarial and inquisitorial systems. In an adversarial system, there is a division of work between a
judge and jury. The role of the judge is to adjudicate the issue of law and to ensure that the trial
proceeds comply with the procedural and substantial laws, while the role of the jury is to adjudicate
the issue of facts as served by the opposing parties based on the law given by judges. Generally, a
judge will not interfere in jury s decision making, but this approach varies subject to matters being
decided in the criminal or civil cases. In civil cases, a judge has a power to set aside a decision taken
by jury if such decision was not made in accordance with the applicable law. However, in criminal
cases a judge does not

Naval Officer Research Paper
Naval officer is an Honor that not many get to claim. Becoming one would bring a never ending Joy

do you want to be when you grow up Akin? my answer was always I don t know yet. As I began to
mature, I started researching what I wanted to do as in after high school. I definitely had college in my
plans because, I knew what I was capable of doing, but as for a career, a life path, that was still
uncertain to me. All members of my family being positive, active members of society, I knew the
precedent that they set and what I was expected to achieve. After several months of researching via
College Board and student testimonials and other sources I knew I wanted to do something with
political sciences, but career paths for social sciences are very broad there are many options and not

Life and works of John Steinnbeck Essay
John Steinbeck was probably the best author of all time. He was the winner of a Nobel Prize, and
along with many other accomplishments, Steinbeck wrote twenty five books, including sixteen novels,
six non fiction books and several collections of short stories during his lifetime. Seventeen of his
works, including The Grapes of Wrath, Cannery Row, The Pearl, and East of Eden, went on to become
Hollywood films, some appeared multiple times, as remakes. Steinbeck also had some success as a

English major, he pursued a program of independent study. During this time at the University he

Morgan who had captured Steinbeck s imagination as a child, was finally published in 1929, but
received little attention. His two following novels, The Pastures of Heaven and To a God Unknown,
were also somewhat unnoticed by the literary world. In 1930 Steinbeck married his first wife Carol
Henning. They both lived in Pacific Grove where a large amount of the material was influenced for
Tortilla Flat and Cannery Row. Tortilla Flat, published in 1935 marked the turning point in Steinbeck s
career. For Tortilla Flat, Steinbeck received the California Commonwealth Club s Gold Medal

My Experience At The University Of Kentucky
In the beginning of the semester, I decided to volunteer six hours at Union College of Kentucky. In
doing so, I participated in miscellaneous activities around campus. I spent one hour giving a tour of
the campus to perspective high school students from around the country. This opened my eyes to the
importance of visiting a place before someone makes a decision on moving there. Personally, I
committed to going to a college without visiting the campus first which in turn hurt me because I did
not feel any sort of familiarity which led to uncomfortable feelings. I spent two hours cleaning up
around the campus by picking up trash, gathering fallen limbs from trees, and collecting leaves and
putting them into trash bags. I spent another two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I did so with a fellow Union College student so that the perspective students could ask questions and
make comments freely. Throughout the tour, I picked up on different student s body language,
behavior, and their comments. There were a few students that were very talkative, asking questions,
talking amongst other students, and letting their parents walk amongst themselves so that they could
get to know other students. I was surprised to see that a majority of the students kept close to their
parents, some of them stayed glued to their cell phones, rolled their eyes when their parents asked
them to put their phones away, and continuously complained asking when will this be over? . Some
students appeared to be more reserved, looking anxious, almost as if they felt like they did not belong.
I was there once, as I am sure many soon to be college students have been. One student flew all the
way from California to tour Union s campus, and he looked uneasy. While discussing the small town
surrounding the school and the closest mall, movie theater, etc. I heard him say to her father I m not
sure if this is the right school for me, it s just so far away from everything and home . Change is never
easy so I understood each and every one of the student s reactions because all of them are completely
normal and acceptable. As for the guy from California, I came

George And Lennie
In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George and Lennie, a pair of unlikely friends, are traveling
together and come upon a ranch to work at. The workers at the ranch can t quite understand why they
are traveling together. This is due to the fact that ranch work is mostly comprised of independent
people. Throughout the book the two of them are saving up to make their dream of getting a place
together and having stability and comfort, come true. However Lennie suffers from some sort of
mental disability, leaving George to be his caretaker. Having the responsible role in the duo, George

After Lennie accidentally killed Curley s wife, Curley is so focused on killing Lennie, that George
takes off to where he told Lennie to go if he ever got into trouble. When he shows up they start talking
about their dream, and George tells Lennie to look across the water and picture it. George knows what
he has to do, as he takes the gun out and points it to the back of Lennie s head his hand shook
violently, but his face set and his hand steadied. He pulled the trigger. (107). By saying that his hand
shook violently , it portrays that this act he is doing is very difficult and painful, this is his biggest
sacrifice. By killing Lennie he was also killing their dream, and the idea of a life of stability and
comfort. This was a huge sacrifice, but he did it because he was responsible for Lennie. He did it
because he knew what Curley was going to do when he found Lennie, and he knew that it was pretty
much the only way out, and he was his responsibility so he took care of it. When Slim takes George to
go get a drink after what had happened, he goes willingly, this shows that this will be his life now. It
shows that now there is no shove to do anything with his life, there s no purpose to it, because that was
all Lennie. Being alone now, George will become the traditional ranch worker, working to be able to
go drink or whatever it is they plan on doing for that night, then he ll go back to work and it ll

Elements Of Civil Disobedience
The term Civil Disobedience was first introduced by Henry David Thoreau in his 1849 essay as a form
of protest to voice opposition to an unjust policy.Throughout the century, acts of civil disobedience
have helped to force reassessment of society s moral parameters. More recently, we can still read from
the daily news on such move happens in virtually democratic countries such as Hong Kong and the
United State. This essay will first discuss about possible traits of Civil Disobedience to distinguish it
from ordinary illegal acts and afterwards comment on the problems or grey areas that this distinction
has brought forth.
Undoubtedly, both civil disobedience and common illegal acts will contravene the legal system.
However, civil disobedience is generally regarded as more morally defensible than ordinary crime
attributed to 4 defining features defended by John Rawls (1971).The 4 features will be concisely
elaborate before we draw out differences between them.

such as road blocking, trespassing and vandalism as if judges(and juries) are convinced, sometimes
judges may not punish the disobedient or punish him or her differently to those that breach the same

Analysis Of The Article Techniques Of Neutralising...
Wildlife crime is a seriously under researched topic, even though it can be a highly controversial topic,
that has been the focus of the media many times in recent history. By writing the article Techniques of
neutralising wildlife crime in rural England and Wales Enticott begins to explore and open up this area
of criminology, whilst offering a deep insight into how neutralisation techniques can be applied to a
wide variety of crimes.
Enticott begins his article by introducing the idea of rural crime, and what a focus on rural crime could
offer to criminology as a whole. This article focuses on the reasons why farmers throughout England
and Wales illegally cull badgers, keyly it draws on the ideas of Sykes and Matza s (1957) ... Show

This paper may also be of use to wildlife policy makers, as it explains the way in which farmers, who
can commit wildlife crime, feel about committing these crimes and they do it. For those who are
particularly interested in the badger and bovine tuberculosis, as the author is, it may also give the, a
deeper understanding of how farmers would react to new methods of controlling badgers to prevent
the future spread of bovine tuberculosis.
It is evident to the reader from early on in the text what Enticott is arguing within this article, the
thesis is that farmers within England and Wales deploy multiple neutralisation techniques when
illegally culling badgers in order to justify and rationalise their actions. Exploring this thesis is
important to the field of criminology as it can be expanded to the whole of wildlife crime, and show
why various crimes against wildlife are committed.
The article is structured in such a manner that readers are aware of the cultural history of badgers and
the disease bovine tuberculosis, as well as key theories before Enticott goes on to analyse. This
presentation and explanation of these theories are clear and informative, and the use of appropriate
subheadings within the article make it easy for the reader to see the clear structure that the author is
following.
In the essay, the author supports his points by using evidence from research that was

Art And Its Influence On Art
The essence of art is the union of inspiration, discovery, imagination, and power displayed and
interpreted through our five senses. Art cannot be demonstrated, nor identified by any absolute source;
no one can or ever shall deem any one piece or sense as true art. . For art is individualized and
perceived differently by each being. The appreciation of what one brings to be experienced by others
classifies as art, for art is to be appreciated in different perspectives; whether it be in sorrow, pleasure,
comfort, or uneasiness. With the creation of art comes the birthplace of power. With the beauty of art,
comes its flexibility and willingness to bind itself to any form that you dictate. Art presents itself
through many mediums, and channels, which leads one to ask where art comes from, and rooted. To
some, art is a passion, to others an outlet, and to other, it is a breath of fresh air. In ancient times, the
Greeks carried that idea with them, believing that it was the Muses, a supernatural power who worked
through them, that caused many blossoming urges of inspiration (Brooks). Inspiration is a core
member in the process of creating art. At times people will be at crossroads, not knowing what to
produce or create, not sure what is to ensue. At those times, artists from the Romantic Era believed
that inspiration played a key role in expression. Thus their mentality was that art was an expression or
revelation of truths that were inaccessible to the intellect alone

Sport Specialization In Sport
Sport Specialization At a young age, children tend to start participating in sports as a way to get active
and learn both athletic as well as life skills. Their parents might start them off with one sport and then
before you know it the child is juggling a handful of sports to see, which ones they like. As these
young athletes get older, they tend to get stuck at a crossroad. The athletes are posed with the same
decision: to specialize in one sport or to continue playing all the sports they love. However, do athletes
that specialize in one sport perform better as they grow up compared to those that continue playing
multiple sports? It is important to resolve this question because there has been a rise in early youth
sport specialization over the last few years due to pressure put on athletes by their coaches and
parents, rather than a logical rationale (Myer 2015).
Often, as young athletes reach middle school and high school levels, coaches and parents tend to see
the potential these athletes have. As a result, the athletes are persuaded and or forced into quitting
certain sports to specialize in their dominant sport with hopes of achieving more success. However,
these children miss out in experiences they might have had if they didn t quit those sports. If they
choose not to quit, they are usually treated differently by their coaches. Coaches will talk to them in a
hasty manner compared to other kids or even discipline them harder, solely because the athlete didn t

African-American Gangster Culture
(1575)Racism in American Culture: The Framing of Gangster Culture in the Visual Image of Snoop

This media study will define the impact of framing in African American gangster culture through a
visual analysis of Snoop Dogg. In 1992, the image of the Snoop Dogg selling an alcoholic beverage
presents a negative image of a black African American in gangster culture. Snoop Dogg s image as a
gangster rapper provides a popular image that reinforces the dominant white view of black men as
street people that encourage alcoholism, drug addiction, and sexual exploitation. Franz Fanon s (2000)

Surely, Snoop Dogg s image is one way to misrepresent or ignore the fact that many African
Americans may view gangster rap culture as disdainful to healthy and moral lifestyle, yet positive
images were continually denying black people a positive view of their own ethnic and racial identity
in this type of racist media culture: To stare at the television, or mainstream movies, to engage its

is actually defining the complete absence of black representation in the media, but she is also
identifying the severity of racialized advertisements, films, magazine articles, and other white mass

Diversity In The Colonies
The American Colonies: A Life of Diversity For most colonists, new life in America meant exactly
that, a new beginning. They weren t travelling hundreds of miles across the globe to simply
experience life in the New World . Uprooting a family was the decision that changed the course of
many European citizens lives. Upon arriving in America, depending on where you settled life would
be very different from your mother nation, and different from how other colonies lived; but also, very
similar to the lives of others within the American colonies. The main similarities and differences exist
in the same cultural barriers modern day humanity battles gender, race, and class and ultimately the
diversity seen between the Southern, Middle, and New England colonies on these issues would prove
to be the compromise found in the United States Constitution. Gender in the colonies was a
demographic that needed to be diverse, without men and women, you cannot breed to create more
human life. Gender was an issue that as time went on, the colonies better understood how diversity
could be the one and only tipping point towards their survival. In the southern colonies such as
Roanoke, initially, only men were sent over. These men were selected as the cream of the crop from
England. Middle aged, strong, and good looking these men might have been worthy candidates of
building a successful colony, but they were missing one thing, women. While few women did journey
across the Atlantic, there

Pros And Cons Of Health Information Exchange (HIE)
Health information exchange (HIE) is the ability for patients health information to be shared
electronically while the precision of the information is assured. There are two models of HIE:
centralized model and decentralized or federated model (LaTour, Eichenwald Maki, Oachs, 2013, p.
221). In centralized model, patients medical information is stored in one single data warehouse and is
managed by representative from different healthcare organizations. Patients information will be
submitted regularly into the data warehouse and all participated organizations can view the data
externally by query requests. In this model, the results of the queries are returned faster than
decentralized model. The disadvantages of this model are the information ownership is hard to be
established and information accuracy and updating are not easy to be maintained (LaTour, Eichenwald

HIE provides full patients medical information to different providers, which helps to avoid
unfavorable errors, especially when patients are new to the practices or need treatment when
travelling. HIE increases the efficiency of cares by eliminating the needs for extra paper works,
missing information, or duplicate of test orders. In addition, HIE enables providers to access patients
assessment plans from other providers notes, which help them to have overviews and choose the right
treatment options. HIE also plays a big part in improving public health monitoring and reporting. HIE
ensures that all healthcare professionals, who involve in patients cares, can obtain the same
information, which allows healthcare professionals to spend more time with patients regarding their
treatments instead of finding information about their medical histories. HIE has the capability of
decreasing costs and increasing patients health outcomes (HealthcareIT.gov,

Moments Of Self-Change In Curb Your Enthusiasm
Moments of Self Change
I think the most significant change that I have made in my life is being more accepting of who I really
am, and dealing with how I feel about a certain subject. If you ve ever watched HBO s Curb Your
Enthusiasm, you d know how Larry David, the creator of Seinfeld feels about certain things.I ve
noticed that I have become accepting of the fact that sometimes I just don t want to talk to someone
and I really don t need to feel the need to be polite and entertain people. Growing up,and during my
college years I was very social towards my peers. Nowadays, I m still social, but I draw certain
boundaries. What I mean to say is that certain things don t appeal to me, or better yet I don t feel the
need for certain social practices.

What A Time You Be An Entrepreneur !
What a time to be an Entrepreneur!
It seems that everywhere you look people are launching new ventures. Whether they quit their day job
to go out it alone or freelance their skills on the side entrepreneurship is the new black. Social media
shows you the glamorous side celebrating new clients, picking a logo, launching a site. However, as
we saw with working at home, the shiny newness of being your own boss will definitely wear off.
After the honeymoon phase comes the actual work. The real hustle. The part where days run together
and the to do list seems never ending. Days when inspiration is just as low as incoming client
numbers. The hustle is hard, but when worked right it is rewarding. Without being properly prepared,
this phase is where many business fail. This phase exposes weakness, tests willpower and drains
motivation. It is here that entrepreneurs learn that a successful launch does not make a successful
business. A successful business is determined by what one does after the business gets off the ground.
The hard part comes in keeping the business from crashing.
These 5 Major Key s will help you hustle harder and smarter, making sure that both you and your
business survive.
Make your Actions and Words Align
Complaining ruins everything. When times get hard, the way you speak over yourself and your

The Notion of God in the Lord of the Rings Essay
The classic works of apocalyptic literature, such as the Book of Daniel and the Book of Revelation are
inherently religious and centered around God. As a result, most later apocalyptic literature is also
religiously centered, with God as the instrumental entity (Shaffer 142). Those who have read J.R.R.
Tolkien s The Lord of the Rings remember most vividly the final great battle where evil is overcome
in the apocalyptic ending of an age. Tolkien s bit of apocalyptic literature in The Lord of the Rings
seems different from traditional religious notions of an apocalypse because the entire epic fantasy
seems devoid of religion and any notion of God. Through recognition of the aural imagery in The
Lord of the Rings and comparison with that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In observing congruencies between The Lord of the Rings and Christian thought, Colin Gunton notes,
Evil is an essentially alien power which corrupts and destroys the work of God, and so has to be
destroyed (Gunton 128). This critic believes that God is present in some form in The Lord of the
Rings, and that evil in the story is a force against God. He is saying that where there is evil, there is
also God, and that in The Lord of the Rings, evil is a power against God that God must eradicate.
Because there is evil, and a demigod, Sauron, representative of it, there must be an opposition for the
side of good, and this entity must eradicate the evil.
The classic Christian notion of the way in which God eradicates evil is during the Apocalypse, and
this Apocalypse is recorded in the Book of Revelation, the last book in the New Testament. This
integral work of apocalyptic literature is the only one that gives a complete account, from beginning to
end, of the foretold Christian apocalypse. It is also the basis for Christian apocalyptic belief. In this
book, God is the entity who initiates the Apocalypse, but carries out the act through the help of angels.
When the main physical actions of the Apocalypse are to be committed, it is angels who step forward
to act, And I

Pericles And Alexander The Great
Professor Ed Jost Western Civilization I October 14, 2016 Lessons in Leadership Pericles and
Alexander the Great Pericles and Alexander the Great are known as two Greek Icons who developed
Greece into one of the most prestigious empires in history. During their time, Greece was vastly
advanced and influenced western civilization today. The first leader to unselfishly use the political
system of democracy, Pericles wanted to strengthen Greece influence around the world and pushed for
other states to adopt democracy. Pericles allowed even the poorest citizens to hold a seat in office if
elected by their peers. Alexander the Great was one of the greatest leaders and emperors of all time
earning the name of the great . Today Alexander the Great is known as a conquering leader who
created one of the largest empires of all time. Both Pericles and Alexander the Great are remembered
today as some of the most accomplished and respected leaders in living memory. Pericles was born in
495 B.C. E in Cholargos north of Athens. Pericles was an influential orator, leader and general during
Athens golden age between the Persian and Peloponnesian wars. Pericles popularized arts and
literature and was the main reason Athens holds the reputation of being the educational and cultural
center of the ancient Greek world. During Pericles rule, Athens developed its Acropolis, the elevated

The Literature Of Climate-Induced Migration
Literature: Climate induced migration is not a new phenomenon that occurred abruptly; it has been an
adaptive strategy followed frequently by different people throughout history to withstand severe
climate conditions. Yet, because of the accumulation of climate hazards, many communities around
the world are highly likely to forcibly flee their lands searching safer zones. In this sense, Climate
induced refugees , is a term that is used to indicate individuals who forcibly flee their homeland
because of climate issues (McAdam, 2012). Although this phenomenon is gradually increasing, it is
still regarded as a marginal or peripheral problem despite its critical outcome. It may appear as merely
environmental; yet, it will generate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Bangladesh as an example, the tidal increase of water threatens citizens lives, pushes them to flee
their homes and undermine their resilience chances (Francis Maguire, 2016). Additionally, the
implications of sea level on coastal environments are predicted to be more critical, resulting in land
loss and abandonment of some islands and atolls with a necessity to relocate the local inhabitants in
other lands (Yotova, 2009). Therefore, it is crucial to consider how the mounting effects of sea level
rise do not solely push communities to abandon their lands, but also threaten their valuable resources
and undermine their resilience attempts. Moreover, The effects of sea level rise are irreversible and
pose in the long run, making migration the only adaptive solution (Piguet Pécoud, 2011). Thus, the
gradual submersion of many countries and island states will lead to a statelessness situation. Namely,
the affected population would suffer from deprivation of its statehood under the absence of a physical
land (McLeman et al., 2015). Furthermore, those ramshackle environments are susceptible to critical
consequences on areas such as tourism, water resources, food and fishing (Ashbindu et al., 2006).
Subsequently, the main concern is how the vulnerable states would cope with the tidal rise of sea level
that swallows their lands gradually as Hastrug Olwig (2012) suggested.

Copper is formed by metallic bonds. This is because it is formed by a strong attraction between the
closely packed positive metal ions and because these are surrounded by delocalised electrons to form
outer shells. Due to this, we can also deduce that its structure is a Giant Metallic Lattice, meaning that
it has a high melting and boiling point, conducts electricity and is insoluble.
Bromine formed by covalent bonds in between two bromine atoms, since bromine is a diatomic
element. Each bromine atom shares one electron with each other, in order to complete their outer

John Yossarian Quotes
John Yossarian

kill him, and pretends to be sick in the hospital to avoid combat. His main goal throughout the war is
to survive, and to escape the military.
They re trying to kill me (9).
Yossarian learns that Orr is alive and decides to run away to Sweden to escape the war.
Through Yossarian s character, Heller satirizes the fact that not everybody involved in war is a hero.
Although Yossarian contributes to the war effort and does his share, deep inside he is truly traumatized
by the war and cannot bring himself to be brave. Unlike the others who put themselves on the line in
battle, Yossarian s paranoia causes him to hide in hospitals, pretending to suffer from sickness.

Heller criticizes the power struggles that occur within the military. Korn, Cathcart s inferior, manages
to take control of Cathcart s job without anybody noticing, and he does not admit to it because he is
afraid of being blamed for anything wrong.
Clevinger
Clevinger is an optimistic character, which causes Yossarian to dislike him due to their opposite
personalities. Yossarian believes him to be crazy because he does not believe that everyone is out to
kill him, while Clevinger believes that Yossarian isolates himself from others too much.
As far back as Yossarian could recall, he explained to Clevinger with a patient smile, somebody was

Hellinger satirizes those who find positivity in time of war. Clevinger, ironically, kept a positive

Epidemiology of Hiv
Chapter 1
1.1 Background
The HIV and AIDS pandemic remains one the most serious development crises in the world (WHO,
2006). Women and children bear a disproportionate share of the burden, and in many settings continue
to experience high rates of new HIV infections and of HIV related illness and death. In 2005 alone, an
estimated 540 000 children were newly infected with HIV, with about
90% of these infections occurring in sub Saharan Africa (UNAIDS, 2006) .UNAIDS estimates that
approximately 370 000 children were infected with HIV in 2007[1]. More than 90% of these
infections were caused by vertical transmission from mother to infant and approximately 90%
occurred in Sub Saharan Africa [1]. In the most heavily affected countries, ... Show more content on

Just as clearly, experience shows that the right approaches, applied quickly enough with courage and
resolve, can and do result in lower HIV infection rates and less suffering for those affected by the
epidemic. An ever growing AIDS epidemic is not inevitable; yet, unless action against the epidemic is
scaled up drastically, the damage already done will seem minor compared with what lies ahead. This
may sound dramatic, but it is hard to play down the effects of a disease that stands to kill more than
half of the young adults in the countries where it has its firmest hold most of them before they finish
the work of caring for their children or providing for their elderly parents. Already, 18.8 million
people around the world have died of AIDS, 3.8 million of them children. Nearly twice that many 34.3
million are now living with HIV, the virus [9].
The most recent UNAIDS/WHO estimates show that, in 1999 alone, 5.4 million people were newly

The African countries south of the Sahara have some of the best HIV surveillance systems in the
world. They provide solid evidence that the HIV infection rate has stabilized at a relatively low level

Employment of Illegal Immigrants
Employment of Illegal Immigrants Employment of illegal immigrants in the United States, as well as
other countries has been a highly controversial subject for many years now. There are many people
living in various countries around the world that are unhappy with the way they are living, and want

On The Rainy River Analysis
Discuss the idea that how imagination affects an individual s willingness to embrace or reject an
uncertain future In On the Rainy River by Tim O Brien, the author suggests the narrator s
imaginations change his perception of the war from different perspectives. The newly graduated
academically advanced narrator is unable to accept the fact that he is drafted to fight in Vietnam in a
war that he does not agree to as an American soldier. However, on the verge of leaving America for
Canada, the narrator s imaginations pull him from crossing the border and eventually compel him to

will be conscripted to fight in Vietnam. To the narrator, being drafted to the war is the worst possible
scenario. Recently graduated from College, he has the world dicked he graduated Phi Beta Kappa (an

This paper answers the main question To what extend is socialisation and the learning process
influenced by being a latchkey child? . In the following you will find reviews of researcher s
definitions for the concept latchkey children , and determine the contributory factors to the
phenomenon of latchkey children and the impact (both positive and negative) of the latchkey situation
on children s relationships. The theoretical framework guiding this research focuses on child
development and family theories as well as the ecological perspectives. The discussion of these
theoretical frameworks is essential in this chapter as it provides the rationale and the framework for
the study.

Latchkey children
STARTING POINT
Today, whether this is a good thing or not, about 33 percent of all school age children, an estimated
five million between ages five and 13, are so called latchkey children, a study of the City of Phoenix
(2003). Furthermore, Your Family Health (2000) highlights a correlation between the continuing
increase in parents working and children being home alone.
As stated in the Oxford Learner s Dictionary (2016), the word latch refers to a small bar fasting a door
or gate. Dowd (1991), Belle (1997) and Robinson (1986), researchers in this field, consider the term
latchkey to be American and link it to the state of a child being in self care and/or care for younger
siblings on a regular basis during the out of school hours, while their parents are at work. Latchkey
children also labelled unsupervised or home alone children, Belle (1997)

Essay On Use And Value Renewable Resources
5. Use And Value Renewable Resources And Services
We all know by now that fossil fuel is unsustainable. The best way to shift to a renewable source is to
use resources and services that originate from plants, animals and the environment. It is also important
to use locally sourced material as often as possible. It makes more sense to build a stone house on a
rocky mountainside than on a barren plain. It s about using what we have around us to the best ability
rather than be a part of a consumerist society.
6. Produce No Waste
An old idiom states one man s trash is another man s treasure. This principle is about re purposing old
materials in new ways. It s about creating a closed loop system where the output of the system is fed
back as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
11. Use Edges And Value The Marginal
There s two meanings to this principle. The first is to accept so called bizarre ideas, keeping an open
mind to alternatives. The second is that any boundary is a place of productivity. Where the river meets
the bank for example is a hot spot of biodiversity and productivity.
12. Creatively Use And Respond To Change
Climate change is one of our largest problems, which we will have to face eventually. Similarly, there
are many things that exist today that may not tomorrow. Learning to adapt is vital to continue living a
sustainable life.
An Example Of Using The Principles
Let s consider a bio gas drum to supply cooking gas to a household. Observe and interact by noticing
the cows feeding cycle, quantity of cow dung, location to place drum etc. Catch and store energy by
storing methane to be used as fuel for cooking. Obtain a yield in the form of cooking gas, cow
dung,pee and possibly dairy products.
Apply self regulation and accept feedback by learning from mistakes and limiting the quantity of your
yields by needs instead of wants. Use and value renewable resources and services by using an animal
based source. Produce no waste by reusing animal waste for a useful purpose. Design from pattern to
detail by starting with a goal of using bio gas and working out details like type and size of drum,
piping etc as they are needed. Integrate rather than segregate by combing functions. Bio gas

My First Year Medical Student At St. Marthers
I briskly roamed the wards, 7:57am on a Tuesday morning, doing post operation checks on the
patients on level five. I was a fourth year medical student at St. Marthers. Today I was assisting my
first basic craniotomy, the partial removing of a skull due to a brain tumour, with my mentor, Blake
Anderson. It was a dreary day, rain specks decorating the windows, the sound of wind whirling like a
vast engine that could rend the soil. I recalled that Blake had always said that the first 24 hours after
any surgery were critical, he said you go into surgery to be fixed, and during the post operation checks
is when you find out if you were successful, or if there are any complications with the healing process.
All patients were clear. Sometime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doctors like to think they knows everything, but in the emergency room, you have to work fast, and it
s those drastic measures that inspire me to be a surgeon. My pager vibrated in my pocket, from Blake,
he said updated scans required immediate attention. It wasn t scheduled for another 4 hours. My
stomach was sinking, I wasn t sure if it were nerves, or intuition. His scans were fine last night. I
couldn t help but wonder what could have gone so wrong in such a short period of time. I could hear
it, I could hear the increased intensity of the machines as his blood pressure dropped. I could see the
patient bleeding out on the table. I could feel my head being cut open, as If I were under the knife. My
thoughts were becoming irrational, I almost always imagined the worst. I was a persistent person, I
bear a deeper malice, live to earn, thrive, and as persistent I was, I still managed to convince myself of
the worst.
I greeted Blake and the surgery team as they were scrubbing in, I could see the Pre anaesthesia nurse
hooking up the patient, Jenna to fluids, and I could feel death creeping, like an obedient monster
purring at its toil. I felt my stomach rise to my throat, yet I felt it drop to the floor. Blake looked at me,
cautiously, and he assured me everything would be okay. I watched the creases around his eyes as he
smiled, convincing myself he was right.
The surgical team was situated around the unconscious Jenna. Blake

My Memories Of My Life
At the moment of impact, my mind and body were immediately paralyzed by fear. A million thoughts
rushed through my head. Did this really just happen? Was I seriously injured? Were the people in the
other car injured? I can vaguely remember two men walking up to my car and asking if I was okay. I
was moving my mouth to speak, but the words just would not come out. Apparently, I was in a state of
shock. That Sunday morning turned out to be one of the hottest days of the summer. I so enjoyed the
time spent with my cousins and granddad, that the heat was the furthest thing from my mind. It had
been way too long between visits and I tried to savor every last moment. With school starting in just a
few weeks, I knew it would be quite some time before we could get together again. We stretched the
day as long as we could, but eventually it was time for us to say our goodbyes. As I got into my
beloved white Honda CR V and buckled my seatbelt, I texted my parents as I always do to let them
know I was on the way home. My dad quickly texted back, giving me the usual lecture about driving
safely and observing the speed limit on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, which recently reduced to 40
miles per hour and was always swarming with cops. I acknowledged my dad as I always did and I
assured him I would be careful. I drove the usual route along Moore Road and as I turned onto
Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, I heard my dad s voice in the back of my head reminding me to pay
attention to

The Struggles of Immigrant Women in the Early Twentieth...
Between the years of 1840 and 1914, about forty million people immigrated to the United States from
foreign countries. Many of them came to find work and earn money to have a better life for their
families. Others immigrated because they wanted to escape the corrupt political power of their
homelands, such as the revolution in Mexico after 1911. Whatever the case, many found it difficult to
begin again in a new country. Most immigrants lived in slums with very poor living conditions. They
had a hard time finding work that paid enough to support a family. Not only was it difficult for
immigrant men, but for women as well. Immigrant women faced many challenges including lack of
education and social life as well as low wages and poor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Sara is out selling herring to earn money for dinner, she says, Nothing was before me but the
hunger in our house, and no bread for the next meal if I didn t sell the herring. This shows just how
desperate Sara and her family are for money to put food on the table. Many immigrant families
struggled to make ends meet even with all the members of their families working. They had to live in
tenements and endure poor living conditions because they used the little income that they received to
pay for food. In the book, the family s kitchen at dinner time is described by saying, The stove was
cold. No food was on the table. The Smolinsky family struggles to put food on the table every night,
so they could not think about sending one of their daughters to school when they desperately need
money themselves. Women were simply not given the opportunity to educate themselves and therefore
it was hard for them to pursue any sort of career in America.
With the lack of education for these women, it also took away from any kind of social life they may
have had. It was hard for a young immigrant woman to go out and find a fitting husband because she
was always working to support her family. Many families could not afford to let their daughters get
married because that would mean less income for them. Several fathers only wanted to marry off their
daughters to

Stewardship Theory Theories
Identify the main differences between each of the theoretical perspectives outlined by Tricker The
theoretical perspectives presented by Tricker clearly outline the importance that is now attached to
corporate governance but also support the view that there remains an absence of one accepted
framework, central to each perspective however is the focus on relationships and the impact the
foundation of these relationships has on the subsequent approach to governance. The agency theory
The basis of which is described as a contractual relationship between an agent and a principal wherein
the agent is engaged to act on behalf of principal, the presumption being that in such a relationship
both parties act solely in their own interest which may not always be aligned. The theory is based on
the belief that people are naturally greedy and self serving and that the agents will not exercise the
same level of care and diligence as they would were it their own property for which they were
responsible for. The argument is made in the readings that this theory may be redundant in a modern
context given the size of some organisations and the relevant distance that may now exist between the
original principal and the agent, however the theory and the dilemma associated with it are the basis of
a large proportion of corporate governance rules as efforts were made to have in place the required
level of protection for principles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory relies on the basis that the stewards sole focus is the protection of their principles interest
above all else. The basic tenant being the relationship of trust that exists between the two parties. The

a legal person with stewards ensuring that it meets its legal obligations for the best interests of

How Did Josef Mengele Study Twins
Josef Mengele was born on March 16, 1911 in Gunzburg, Germany. Mengele is most famous for
studying twins. He studied Jewish and gypsy twins, wanting to make them more like the Aryan race.
To do this, he injected chemicals into their eyes to make them blue, pretended to be nice to children so
they would let him do this. In addition, Mengele drew blood from twins, taking so much from some
that they bled to death. After these twins had died, he would dissect their bodies. In one experiment,
he sewed two sisters together to make them siamese twins. Mengele also did experiments on other
people, although it was less common. He impregnated girls with their own brothers or even their
fathers. Other experiments he did include: performing sex changes,

Getulio Vargas Charismatic Leadership
The geographical proximity and history of political ties between Brazil and Argentina lend a hand to
the fruition of ideologically parallel presidential regimes during the 1940s and 1950s. Brazil s
economy found itself in trouble after coffee and agricultural exports, on which much of the economy
depended, sharply declined during the Great Depression. Getulio Vargas, who was the acting president
from 1930 to 1945 and for a second term in 1951 until his death, helped to reform and support the
Brazilian people under a populist regime. In 1954, Vargas committed suicide after a lackluster three
years back in office, leaving a note that spoke to his constituency s deep seeded admiration for Vargas
charismatic leadership. In Argentina, a fear of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After three years in office for the second time, Vargas committed suicide and left a passionate note
beside his body. The letter documented his reasoning for yielding [himself] in order to defend the
people who, if [he fails], are abandoned , clearly speaking to underrepresented demographics in the
Brazilian constituency (Vargas). Tones of martyrdom resonate throughout the document, including a
declaration of reason for his suicide in response to the notion that he was a slave to the people, and
today [will] free [himself] for eternal life (Vargas). The response to Vargas death produced an
awesome outpouring of public grief that demonstrated his letter s ability to inspire cohesion and
cooperation amongst the Brazilian people (Chasteen, 260). He speaks of social freedom and wanting
the worker to be free regardless of his feeling that political opposition had vilified [him] and did not
allow [him] the right to defend [himself] (Vargas). By dedicating his death to the people he fought for
during his political career, Vargas upheld his position in history as a charismatic, paternal, populist

  • 2. Racial Discrimination Essay They say the government mislead the youth? Tell them that there, is the truth... Throughout the 20th century and continuing through the 21st century, the United States of America is now more diverse than it has ever been. While being more diverse than previously, minorities are continuously being portrayed as less than they are worth. Minorities have made significant strides towards equality in American society. The three examples media persuades individuals perception of other ethnic groups is through creating a perception that Caucasian is the standard beauty, misrepresentation of other races, and favoritism towards certain races in films. A tactic that media uses is by pushing the idea that being Caucasian is the standard of beauty. A prime example of the effect the media has on individuals is, The Doll Test . The Doll Test is an experiment which was conducted by doctors Kenneth and Mamie Clark in the 1940s. The experiment was conducted to study the psychological effects of segregation on African American children. The Clarks took a group of children between the ages of three and seven, and gave them two different dolls, which were identical except for their skin color goal of the experiment was to use four dolls which were identical excluding its skin color, to test children s racial perceptions. The Doctors then asked the following questions, Which doll is good? and Which doll is prettier? and Which do you want to play with? This experiment brought the idea of ... A 47 year old female patient attends a Birmingham podiatry clinic with callus and heloma durum presenting on the plantar surface of the 1st MTPJ of the left foot. The patient is generally fit and well, and requires routine treatment. To enable the podiatrist to treat callus and corn, they must first understand the biological process that leads to the pathology. Callus, or hyperkeratosis, a diffuse area of relatively even thickness (Lorimer et al.1997), is formed from hypertrophy of the superficial layer of the epidermis, the stratum corneum, and reduced desquamation rate causing the skin to increase layers and harden (Fig 1). • 6. I Am Joaquin Poem Analysis During the 1960 s, the Civil Rights Movement wasn t the only one occurring. Struggling to assimilate into American culture, and suppressed by social injustices convicted by their Anglo counterparts, the Chicano movement was born. In the epic poem I am Joaquin written by Rodolfo Gonzales in 1969, we dive into what it means to be a Chicano. Through this poem, we see the struggles of the Chicano people portrayed by the narrator, in an attempt to grasp the American s attention during the time of these movements. Hoping to shed light on the issues and struggles the Chicano population faced, Gonzales writes this epic in an attempt to strengthen the movement taking place, and to give Chicanos a sense of belonging and solidarity in this now ... I owned land as far as the eye could see under the Crown of Spain, and I toiled on my earth and gave my Indian sweat and blood for the Spanish master who ruled tyranny over man and beast and all that he could trample. But... THE GROUND WAS MINE. This is what life was like before the Spanish American War and before the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This was life before Chicanos were pushed off their land because Anglos fought the documents in court. This is before the treaty that was supposed to protect their rights fell through. This is when life was hard, but it was a life they knew and a struggle they lived with. Although Chicanos have endured many struggles, this is one they want to fight for. Chicanos faced another problem along with their land being taken and being treated as second class citizens. Assimilating into American culture was difficult. Do you keep in touch with the roots of your homeland or do you change and adapt to the new ways of American culture? This was a struggle for Chicanos and it was difficult to adapt. • 7. Asian Cultures And American Cultures Essay Culture: Earth is bigger than what most people think; it consists of 7 continents, 7 seas, and 196 different countries. Taking that into consideration, our earth currently is supporting over 7 billion people worldwide. That is 7 billion people who are different and individuals who share different thoughts, ideas, backgrounds, and cultures. Cultures are very unique as they are different from country to country. Some adopt cultures that society accept as the norm, while others adopt different types of cultures; cultures that not many people, especially those outside from the country, can see eye to eye and would sometimes find them rather extreme . When comparing Asian cultures and American cultures side by side, we can easily identify the many differences between the two. For one, Asian cultures are less open, more traditional and conservative in comparison to Americans. While Americans promote liberty, independence, and values individualism; Asian countries, on the other hand, are more fixated in keeping to the custom. Knowing this, it is not surprising to see Asian countries have a more rigid and structured form of society compared to the Western counterparts. The values, business structures and even priorities are different between the two and can easily be distinguished. Singapore is a good example on the contrasting differences and representation of the Asian cultures. Singapore: Singapore is a self governing city state located in Southeast Asia. I learned a lot about writing for example; before this class I had never heard of parallelism and didn t know the impact it had on writing. Another part of my stylistic learning was learning about transitions, semicolons, commas, and apostrophes. I also wrote almost every different style of paper too which really helps in improving the ability to write. One thing I have improved on is using sophisticated vocabulary in my papers. For example, from my compare and contrast paper I wrote I said, The boxer engine also gives the exhaust a much better sound, which is more dulcet to the ear. With competitors such as Blockbuster, Hollywood Entertainment and Redbox, Netflix rose to be the leading Internet provider for Internet television and streaming thus forcing Blockbuster and Hollywood Entertainment out of business. With the transformation of consumer viewing in the American television industry, Netflix has over 75 million members who stream more than 125 million hours of television shows and movies per day (Statista, 2016). Their repertoire includes movies and original series that allow consumers to view at anytime and on any screen in which Internet connectivity to the Internet is provided. In addition, Netflix continues to deliver DVDs within the United States to the homes of consumers. One critical issue was that customers did not like the increased subscription fees (Parnell, 2014). Mr. Hastings proposed a plan to split the company into two separate entities in order to focus on DVD by mail services and streaming services individually. Customers were not happy because this would generate two different accounts to manage if customer had both services. Over 800,000 subscribers canceled their subscriptions due to the proposed split. The industry in which Netflix competes include both video rental and internet streaming. Initially their competition was Blockbuster, Hollywood Entertainment and Redbox. Both Blockbuster and ... Different legal traditions in the world have given a different meaning of this concept by following one of the two legal systems: a civil law system and a common law system. The civil law system emerged from Roman law and throughout many centuries has been developed in continental Europe and often is called a continental legal system , achieving its prominence through development of aqui communitare in Europe. The common law system emerged in England during the Anglo Saxon period and was developed by British colonies, reaching its peak in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. In an adversary system the judge and jury as decision makers have a passive role in investigating and gathering evidence and are responsible solely in deciding the case. In contrast, in an inquisitorial system the judge holds a very active role in the process, by choosing which evidence to accept and applying the law to the evidence in deciding the case. Supporters of the adversary system consider this feature as an advantage because they believe that the justice is best achieved where the decision maker is neutral, passive and impartial in deciding the case. Distinction of roles between judges and juries is a further fundamental difference between the adversarial and inquisitorial systems. In an adversarial system, there is a division of work between a judge and jury. The role of the judge is to adjudicate the issue of law and to ensure that the trial proceeds comply with the procedural and substantial laws, while the role of the jury is to adjudicate the issue of facts as served by the opposing parties based on the law given by judges. Generally, a judge will not interfere in jury s decision making, but this approach varies subject to matters being decided in the criminal or civil cases. In civil cases, a judge has a power to set aside a decision taken by jury if such decision was not made in accordance with the applicable law. However, in criminal cases a judge does not ... Personally, I committed to going to a college without visiting the campus first which in turn hurt me because I did not feel any sort of familiarity which led to uncomfortable feelings. George knows what he has to do, as he takes the gun out and points it to the back of Lennie s head his hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied. He pulled the trigger. (107). By saying that his hand shook violently , it portrays that this act he is doing is very difficult and painful, this is his biggest sacrifice. Elements Of Civil Disobedience The term Civil Disobedience was first introduced by Henry David Thoreau in his 1849 essay as a form of protest to voice opposition to an unjust policy.Throughout the century, acts of civil disobedience have helped to force reassessment of society s moral parameters. Enticott begins his article by introducing the idea of rural crime, and what a focus on rural crime could offer to criminology as a whole. This article focuses on the reasons why farmers throughout England and Wales illegally cull badgers, keyly it draws on the ideas of Sykes and Matza s (1957) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This paper may also be of use to wildlife policy makers, as it explains the way in which farmers, who can commit wildlife crime, feel about committing these crimes and they do it. For those who are particularly interested in the badger and bovine tuberculosis, as the author is, it may also give the, a deeper understanding of how farmers would react to new methods of controlling badgers to prevent the future spread of bovine tuberculosis. It is evident to the reader from early on in the text what Enticott is arguing within this article, the thesis is that farmers within England and Wales deploy multiple neutralisation techniques when illegally culling badgers in order to justify and rationalise their actions. Exploring this thesis is important to the field of criminology as it can be expanded to the whole of wildlife crime, and show why various crimes against wildlife are committed. The article is structured in such a manner that readers are aware of the cultural history of badgers and the disease bovine tuberculosis, as well as key theories before Enticott goes on to analyse. This presentation and explanation of these theories are clear and informative, and the use of appropriate subheadings within the article make it easy for the reader to see the clear structure that the author is following. • 19. Art And Its Influence On Art The essence of art is the union of inspiration, discovery, imagination, and power displayed and interpreted through our five senses. Art cannot be demonstrated, nor identified by any absolute source; no one can or ever shall deem any one piece or sense as true art. . For art is individualized and perceived differently by each being. The appreciation of what one brings to be experienced by others classifies as art, for art is to be appreciated in different perspectives; whether it be in sorrow, pleasure, comfort, or uneasiness. With the creation of art comes the birthplace of power. With the beauty of art, comes its flexibility and willingness to bind itself to any form that you dictate. Art presents itself through many mediums, and channels, which leads one to ask where art comes from, and rooted. To some, art is a passion, to others an outlet, and to other, it is a breath of fresh air. In ancient times, the Greeks carried that idea with them, believing that it was the Muses, a supernatural power who worked through them, that caused many blossoming urges of inspiration (Brooks). Inspiration is a core member in the process of creating art. At times people will be at crossroads, not knowing what to produce or create, not sure what is to ensue. At those times, artists from the Romantic Era believed that inspiration played a key role in expression. Thus their mentality was that art was an expression or revelation of truths that were inaccessible to the intellect alone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Sport Specialization In Sport Sport Specialization At a young age, children tend to start participating in sports as a way to get active and learn both athletic as well as life skills. Their parents might start them off with one sport and then before you know it the child is juggling a handful of sports to see, which ones they like. As these young athletes get older, they tend to get stuck at a crossroad. The athletes are posed with the same decision: to specialize in one sport or to continue playing all the sports they love. However, do athletes that specialize in one sport perform better as they grow up compared to those that continue playing multiple sports? It is important to resolve this question because there has been a rise in early youth sport specialization over the last few years due to pressure put on athletes by their coaches and parents, rather than a logical rationale (Myer 2015). Often, as young athletes reach middle school and high school levels, coaches and parents tend to see the potential these athletes have. As a result, the athletes are persuaded and or forced into quitting certain sports to specialize in their dominant sport with hopes of achieving more success. However, these children miss out in experiences they might have had if they didn t quit those sports. If they choose not to quit, they are usually treated differently by their coaches. Coaches will talk to them in a hasty manner compared to other kids or even discipline them harder, solely because the athlete didn t do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

African-American Gangster Culture (1575)Racism in American Culture: The Framing of Gangster Culture in the Visual Image of Snoop Dogg: St. Ides Advertisement (1992) This media study will define the impact of framing in African American gangster culture through a visual analysis of Snoop Dogg. In 1992, the image of the Snoop Dogg selling an alcoholic beverage presents a negative image of a black African American in gangster culture. Snoop Dogg s image as a gangster rapper provides a popular image that reinforces the dominant white view of black men as street people that encourage alcoholism, drug addiction, and sexual exploitation. Surely, Snoop Dogg s image is one way to misrepresent or ignore the fact that many African Americans may view gangster rap culture as disdainful to healthy and moral lifestyle, yet positive images were continually denying black people a positive view of their own ethnic and racial identity in this type of racist media culture: To stare at the television, or mainstream movies, to engage its images, was to engage its negation of black representation (Hooks 117). In this passage, Hooks (1992) is actually defining the complete absence of black representation in the media, but she is also identifying the severity of racialized advertisements, films, magazine articles, and other white mass media presentations that frame black people as social deviants. They weren t travelling hundreds of miles across the globe to simply experience life in the New World . Uprooting a family was the decision that changed the course of many European citizens lives. Upon arriving in America, depending on where you settled life would be very different from your mother nation, and different from how other colonies lived; but also, very similar to the lives of others within the American colonies. The main similarities and differences exist in the same cultural barriers modern day humanity battles gender, race, and class and ultimately the diversity seen between the Southern, Middle, and New England colonies on these issues would prove to be the compromise found in the United States Constitution. Gender in the colonies was a demographic that needed to be diverse, without men and women, you cannot breed to create more human life. Gender was an issue that as time went on, the colonies better understood how diversity could be the one and only tipping point towards their survival. In the southern colonies such as Roanoke, initially, only men were sent over. These men were selected as the cream of the crop from England. Pros And Cons Of Health Information Exchange (HIE) Health information exchange (HIE) is the ability for patients health information to be shared electronically while the precision of the information is assured. There are two models of HIE: centralized model and decentralized or federated model (LaTour, Eichenwald Maki, Oachs, 2013, p. 221). In centralized model, patients medical information is stored in one single data warehouse and is managed by representative from different healthcare organizations. Patients information will be submitted regularly into the data warehouse and all participated organizations can view the data externally by query requests. In this model, the results of the queries are returned faster than decentralized model. The Notion of God in the Lord of the Rings Essay The classic works of apocalyptic literature, such as the Book of Daniel and the Book of Revelation are inherently religious and centered around God. As a result, most later apocalyptic literature is also religiously centered, with God as the instrumental entity (Shaffer 142). Those who have read J.R.R. In observing congruencies between The Lord of the Rings and Christian thought, Colin Gunton notes, Evil is an essentially alien power which corrupts and destroys the work of God, and so has to be destroyed (Gunton 128). This critic believes that God is present in some form in The Lord of the Rings, and that evil in the story is a force against God. He is saying that where there is evil, there is also God, and that in The Lord of the Rings, evil is a power against God that God must eradicate. Because there is evil, and a demigod, Sauron, representative of it, there must be an opposition for the side of good, and this entity must eradicate the evil. The classic Christian notion of the way in which God eradicates evil is during the Apocalypse, and this Apocalypse is recorded in the Book of Revelation, the last book in the New Testament. This integral work of apocalyptic literature is the only one that gives a complete account, from beginning to end, of the foretold Christian apocalypse. In this sense, Climate induced refugees , is a term that is used to indicate individuals who forcibly flee their homeland because of climate issues (McAdam, 2012). In Bangladesh as an example, the tidal increase of water threatens citizens lives, pushes them to flee their homes and undermine their resilience chances (Francis Maguire, 2016). Additionally, the implications of sea level on coastal environments are predicted to be more critical, resulting in land loss and abandonment of some islands and atolls with a necessity to relocate the local inhabitants in other lands (Yotova, 2009). Therefore, it is crucial to consider how the mounting effects of sea level rise do not solely push communities to abandon their lands, but also threaten their valuable resources and undermine their resilience attempts. Moreover, The effects of sea level rise are irreversible and pose in the long run, making migration the only adaptive solution (Piguet Pécoud, 2011). Thus, the gradual submersion of many countries and island states will lead to a statelessness situation. Namely, the affected population would suffer from deprivation of its statehood under the absence of a physical land (McLeman et al., 2015). Furthermore, those ramshackle environments are susceptible to critical consequences on areas such as tourism, water resources, food and fishing (Ashbindu et al., 2006). • 39. Urban Sprawl In Los Angeles Essay Los Angeles is built on the vast and flat landscape; it was their opportunity to grow fast as a metropolitan. With this environment, the constant influx of population was enough to generate a significant community even outside of downtown. The urban sprawl started on its endless horizontal ground. However, soon they confronted the limit of the carrying capacity. L.A couldn t handle its urban sprawl; it needed a solution to keep growing. Los Angeles couldn t deal with the increasing housing demand and lacking of public space. Compared to other metropolitan, such as New York, Los Angeles showed the dramatic comparison in population density. The urbanized area of Los Angeles was the densest in the country in 1990, more so than even New York City. The 2000 figure for the Los Angeles Long Beach Santa Ana Urbanized area is 7,068 people per square mile, compared to 5,309 for the New York, New jersey Connecticut urbanized area. (Grey 90) In detail, 90 districts of L.A have more than 10,000 people per square mile. Especially Koreatown has the biggest number which is 42,000 square per mile (LA times Sewell 2016). After decades, when it confronted its housing problem due to unaffordability, people finally realized there is no suburban area for them to move or build new housings in Los Angeles. They reached their limit of growing. Unnerving lesson in man s infinite capacity to mess up his environment. (Grey 238) The population kept larger, the price of housing also increased. Los ... • 40. On The Rainy River Analysis Discuss the idea that how imagination affects an individual s willingness to embrace or reject an uncertain future In On the Rainy River by Tim O Brien, the author suggests the narrator s imaginations change his perception of the war from different perspectives. The newly graduated academically advanced narrator is unable to accept the fact that he is drafted to fight in Vietnam in a war that he does not agree to as an American soldier. However, on the verge of leaving America for Canada, the narrator s imaginations pull him from crossing the border and eventually compel him to enlist in the military. The story opens with the narrator receiving his draft notice, indicating that he will be conscripted to fight in Vietnam. To the narrator, being drafted to the war is the worst possible scenario. Recently graduated from College, he has the world dicked he graduated Phi Beta Kappa (an exclusive honor society tied with college grade point average), summa cum laude (honor awarded to students with a grade point average higher than 3.90), is president of the student body , and receives a full ride scholarship for grad studies at Harvard, and more. Therefore, he is particularly shocked and dismissive when the draft notice appears in his mailbox. • 41. Factors Of Being A Latchkey Children I. IntroductioN This paper answers the main question To what extend is socialisation and the learning process influenced by being a latchkey child? . In the following you will find reviews of researcher s definitions for the concept latchkey children , and determine the contributory factors to the phenomenon of latchkey children and the impact (both positive and negative) of the latchkey situation on children s relationships. The theoretical framework guiding this research focuses on child development and family theories as well as the ecological perspectives. The discussion of these theoretical frameworks is essential in this chapter as it provides the rationale and the framework for the study. FOCUS ON SOZIALISATION II. Core A. Definitions Before researching the influence of being a latchkey child has on their socialisation and learning process, the following terms need to be clarified: 1. Socialisation According to the Oxford dictionary (2016), socialisation is the process by which an individual learns patterns of behaviour in a way that is acceptable in their society. The process ... Latchkey children STARTING POINT Today, whether this is a good thing or not, about 33 percent of all school age children, an estimated five million between ages five and 13, are so called latchkey children, a study of the City of Phoenix (2003). Furthermore, Your Family Health (2000) highlights a correlation between the continuing increase in parents working and children being home alone. As stated in the Oxford Learner s Dictionary (2016), the word latch refers to a small bar fasting a door or gate. Dowd (1991), Belle (1997) and Robinson (1986), researchers in this field, consider the term latchkey to be American and link it to the state of a child being in self care and/or care for younger siblings on a regular basis during the out of school hours, while their parents are at work. • 42. Essay On Use And Value Renewable Resources 5. Use And Value Renewable Resources And Services We all know by now that fossil fuel is unsustainable. The best way to shift to a renewable source is to use resources and services that originate from plants, animals and the environment. It is also important to use locally sourced material as often as possible. It makes more sense to build a stone house on a rocky mountainside than on a barren plain. It s about using what we have around us to the best ability rather than be a part of a consumerist society. 6. Produce No Waste An old idiom states one man s trash is another man s treasure. This principle is about re purposing old materials in new ways. It s about creating a closed loop system where the output of the system is fed back as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 11. Use Edges And Value The Marginal There s two meanings to this principle. The first is to accept so called bizarre ideas, keeping an open mind to alternatives. The second is that any boundary is a place of productivity. Where the river meets the bank for example is a hot spot of biodiversity and productivity. 12. Creatively Use And Respond To Change Climate change is one of our largest problems, which we will have to face eventually. Similarly, there are many things that exist today that may not tomorrow. Learning to adapt is vital to continue living a sustainable life. An Example Of Using The Principles Let s consider a bio gas drum to supply cooking gas to a household. Observe and interact by noticing the cows feeding cycle, quantity of cow dung, location to place drum etc. Catch and store energy by storing methane to be used as fuel for cooking. Obtain a yield in the form of cooking gas, cow dung, pee and possibly dairy products. Apply self regulation and accept feedback by learning from mistakes and limiting the quantity of your yields by needs instead of wants. Use and value renewable resources and services by using an animal based source. Produce no waste by reusing animal waste for a useful purpose. Design from pattern to detail by starting with a goal of using bio gas and working out details like type and size of drum, piping etc as they are needed. Integrate rather than segregate by combing functions. Bio gas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. My First Year Medical Student At St. Marthers I briskly roamed the wards, 7:57am on a Tuesday morning, doing post operation checks on the patients on level five. I was a fourth year medical student at St. Marthers. Today I was assisting my first basic craniotomy, the partial removing of a skull due to a brain tumour, with my mentor, Blake Anderson. It was a dreary day, rain specks decorating the windows, the sound of wind whirling like a vast engine that could rend the soil. I recalled that Blake had always said that the first 24 hours after any surgery were critical, he said you go into surgery to be fixed, and during the post operation checks is when you find out if you were successful, or if there are any complications with the healing process. All patients were clear. Sometime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My stomach was sinking, I wasn t sure if it were nerves, or intuition. His scans were fine last night. I couldn t help but wonder what could have gone so wrong in such a short period of time. I could hear it, I could hear the increased intensity of the machines as his blood pressure dropped. I could see the patient bleeding out on the table. I could feel my head being cut open, as If I were under the knife. My thoughts were becoming irrational, I almost always imagined the worst. I was a persistent person, I bear a deeper malice, live to earn, thrive, and as persistent I was, I still managed to convince myself of the worst. I greeted Blake and the surgery team as they were scrubbing in, I could see the Pre anaesthesia nurse hooking up the patient, Jenna to fluids, and I could feel death creeping, like an obedient monster purring at its toil. I felt my stomach rise to my throat, yet I felt it drop to the floor. Blake looked at me, cautiously, and he assured me everything would be okay. I watched the creases around his eyes as he smiled, convincing myself he was right. The surgical team was situated around the unconscious Jenna. Blake ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. My Memories Of My Life At the moment of impact, my mind and body were immediately paralyzed by fear. A million thoughts rushed through my head. Did this really just happen? Was I seriously injured? Were the people in the other car injured? I can vaguely remember two men walking up to my car and asking if I was okay. I was moving my mouth to speak, but the words just would not come out. Apparently, I was in a state of shock. That Sunday morning turned out to be one of the hottest days of the summer. I so enjoyed the time spent with my cousins and granddad, that the heat was the furthest thing from my mind. It had been way too long between visits and I tried to savor every last moment. With school starting in just a few weeks, I knew it would be quite some time before we could get together again. We stretched the day as long as we could, but eventually it was time for us to say our goodbyes. As I got into my beloved white Honda CR V and buckled my seatbelt, I texted my parents as I always do to let them know I was on the way home. My dad quickly texted back, giving me the usual lecture about driving safely and observing the speed limit on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, which recently reduced to 40 miles per hour and was always swarming with cops. I acknowledged my dad as I always did and I assured him I would be careful. • 46. The Struggles of Immigrant Women in the Early Twentieth... Between the years of 1840 and 1914, about forty million people immigrated to the United States from foreign countries. Many of them came to find work and earn money to have a better life for their families. Others immigrated because they wanted to escape the corrupt political power of their homelands, such as the revolution in Mexico after 1911. Whatever the case, many found it difficult to begin again in a new country. Most immigrants lived in slums with very poor living conditions. They had a hard time finding work that paid enough to support a family. Not only was it difficult for immigrant men, but for women as well. When Sara is out selling herring to earn money for dinner, she says, Nothing was before me but the hunger in our house, and no bread for the next meal if I didn t sell the herring. This shows just how desperate Sara and her family are for money to put food on the table. Many immigrant families struggled to make ends meet even with all the members of their families working. They had to live in tenements and endure poor living conditions because they used the little income that they received to pay for food. In the book, the family s kitchen at dinner time is described by saying, The stove was cold. No food was on the table. The Smolinsky family struggles to put food on the table every night, so they could not think about sending one of their daughters to school when they desperately need money themselves. Women were simply not given the opportunity to educate themselves and therefore it was hard for them to pursue any sort of career in America. With the lack of education for these women, it also took away from any kind of social life they may have had. It was hard for a young immigrant woman to go out and find a fitting husband because she was always working to support her family. Many families could not afford to let their daughters get married because that would mean less income for them. Several fathers only wanted to marry off their daughters to ... • 47. Stewardship Theory Theories Identify the main differences between each of the theoretical perspectives outlined by Tricker The theoretical perspectives presented by Tricker clearly outline the importance that is now attached to corporate governance but also support the view that there remains an absence of one accepted framework, central to each perspective however is the focus on relationships and the impact the foundation of these relationships has on the subsequent approach to governance. The agency theory The basis of which is described as a contractual relationship between an agent and a principal wherein the agent is engaged to act on behalf of principal, the presumption being that in such a relationship both parties act solely in their own interest which may not always be aligned. The theory is based on the belief that people are naturally greedy and self serving and that the agents will not exercise the same level of care and diligence as they would were it their own property for which they were responsible for. The argument is made in the readings that this theory may be redundant in a modern context given the size of some organisations and the relevant distance that may now exist between the original principal and the agent, however the theory and the dilemma associated with it are the basis of a large proportion of corporate governance rules as efforts were made to have in place the required level of protection for principles. ... In addition, Mengele drew blood from twins, taking so much from some that they bled to death. After these twins had died, he would dissect their bodies. Getulio Vargas Charismatic Leadership The geographical proximity and history of political ties between Brazil and Argentina lend a hand to the fruition of ideologically parallel presidential regimes during the 1940s and 1950s. Brazil s economy found itself in trouble after coffee and agricultural exports, on which much of the economy depended, sharply declined during the Great Depression. Getulio Vargas, who was the acting president from 1930 to 1945 and for a second term in 1951 until his death, helped to reform and support the Brazilian people under a populist regime.
