2. Process The first thing I did, was to add a coloured
background which was pink as I’m wanting a
pastel look in my final product as I like the mix
of bright colours together. I then started looking
on the internet for a model to go on the front
which was Selena Gomez. I had to use the
‘magic wand tool’ to remove the white
background that came with the photo as I
wanted it to look like Selena blended into the
background. I then went on 1001 fonts to find a
font I liked the most for this type of magazine
which is called ‘Gogono Cocoa Mochi’ and I
turned it to vertical to make it look different to
other type of magazines. I got my inspiration
from this magazine with the text being vertical. I
then wanted the title to be behind the models
hair, I did this by clicking on the 3rd one down
which is called ‘Lasso Tool’, then clicked on the
right button to bring up more options so I can
change the tool to this one ‘Polygonal Lasso
tool’ then duplicated the slide I wanted to then
go around Selena’s hair so the font then went
behind her hair.
3. Process
After I’ve added the model and the
name of the magazine I then moved
onto the writing. The text that’s on
Selena you couldn’t really see the text,
so I wanted to add a rectangle box to
go behind it so you will be able to read
it a lot clearer. As I’m going for the
pastel colours I wanted it to be bright
along with the background, so I made
the rectangle a green colour to make it
pop to go with the pastel theme. Also
because I'm also wanting to go with
the pastel theme in my final product.
After that, I wanted to add a circle for
the price to let people know how
much the magazine is and it being in
bold its easy for them to find. I also
added a barcode so my audience will
be able to buy the product.
4. Process
• Strengths: I found with the strengths with the techniques and the
tools are that I found it fairly easy to find the tools I needed for
example with the name ‘Shuffle’ I wanted that to be behind Selena’s
hair to make her the main focus to the work. I also did this because it
makes it look more known, for example the most well known
magazines for example ‘Cosmopolitan’ usually have the name of the
magazine behind the model that’s on the front. They do this because
they want the main focus on the model and the writing. Another
strength is that editing the background of Selena was easy to work,
by using the tool ‘quick selection tool’ this tool helped a lot by letting
you select the bit that you don’t want removing, you can click at the
top of the screen onto the plus and minus buttons to then click the
bits you want to stay.
• The weaknesses with the techniques and the tools were at first with
wanting the name of the cover behind the model, however I did say
in the strengths that I founded it easy to work with but at first when I
heard you could do that I wasn’t sure how you would be able to do
that, until I saw someone do it to there work I thought I would try
doing it to my work to see if it looked good with it being like that
which it did so I kept it that way. Another weakness to the technique
and the tools were when removing the background again like I said in
the strengths I found it fairly easy when just going around the model
I found that fine. However with Selena that I used for my experiment
I found it a little hard to go in-between her hair how some of her hair
wasn’t against her head so I had to carefully remove the background
that was making it look unrealistic this is where I'm meaning.
This is where I'm meaning
where I had to use the
removing tool to get the
background between the two
pieces of hair.
5. Process
I found with the cutting the name of the
magazine the easiest cutting tool the easiest to
use was ‘magnetic lasso tool’ I felt that this was
the easiest this is because you had to just click as
you worked around the mode. Where with the
other tool I used which is called ‘polygonal lasso
tool’ I found with this one that it didn’t really
work let me go around her as easily as it comes
out straight where the other one it has a natural
bend making it bend to where you want it to go,
as it doesn’t show any background that you don’t
want where the one that didn’t really work for
me because it is straight which made it a longer
progress where the easier one I preferred it was
straight forward and took less time to do.
This is where I
used the tool
‘magnetic lasso
tool’ to go around
her hair to make
the word ‘Shuffle’
go behind her
hair a little to
make Selena the
main focus.

6. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
– For my final product I would like to include the pastel
colour theme as I like the look of that as it’s something
different to what I usually do and makes me use colours
that I might not particularly use.
– Also would like to add the ‘Shuffle’ being vertical as it looks
unique compared to other magazines that have the name
of the magazine horizontal.
