Beowulf Christian Influence Essay
Christian Influence on Beowulf and The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki
In Beowulf the Christian influence is revealed through approximately 70 passages in which the form
of expression or the thought suggests Christian usage or doctrine (Blackburn 3); The Saga of King
Hrolf Kraki is in its own way infused with Christian values even though it preserves remnants of the
cult of Odin.
The Christian element seems to be too deeply interwoven in the text of Beowulf for us to suppose that
it is due to additions made by scribes at a time when the poem had come to be written down. The
Christian element had to be included by the original poet or by minstrels who recited it in later times.
The extent to which the Christian element is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
E. Talbot Donaldson says: Yet there is no reference to the New Testament to Christ and His Sacrifice
which are the real bases of Christianity in any intelligible sense of the term. (Bloom 1). The minstrels
who introduced the Christian element probably had but a vague knowledge of Christianity, much of it
probably coming from other poets who were Christian, like Caedmon, who is mentioned in Bede s
The Ecclesiastical History of the English People (215 18). Caedmon s Hymn has but few lines extant:
. . . the power of the Creator, the profound mind
of the glorious Father, who fashioned the beginning
of every wonder, the eternal Lord.
For the children of men he made first
heaven as a roof, the holy Creator. . . .(Alexander 6)
The Christian references in Beowulf include four allusions to Genesis, including the Creation, Cain
and Abel and the Flood. There are dozens of references to God in the Christian sense, plus other
epithets for God: lord, father, creator, ruler, almighty, ruler of men, ruler of glory, shepherd of glory,
king of glory, guider of the heavens, ruler of victories, king of victories (Chadwick 24).
While the poet s reflections and characters statements are mostly Christian, the customs and
ceremonies, on the other hand, are almost entirely heathen/pagan (Ward v1,ch3,s3,n17): At the
beginning of the poem, there is the account of the pagan funeral rites of Scyld

Pete Seeger Essay
The Significance of Pete Seeger to American History Pete Seeger is an extremely talented artist who is
very well known for his contributions to folk music. Pete Seeger is an absolute inspiration to many
people around the world today. Not only was Pete Seeger just a singer/songwriter, he was also an
important political activist, the author of several dozen books, an environmentalist as well as a peace
advocator. He plays a very significant role in terms of historical influences. As a man of many
identities, Pete Seeger will always remain an influential individual in regards to American History. It
is definitely worth discussing the many roles Pete Seeger acquired and how each of these roles
assisted in impacting American History. Pete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the 1960 s, Pete was mainly concerned with equality and fairness of the people. He
participated in many civil rights protests and marches. He organized many social rallies that he
participated in as well. His political beliefs were devoted to the leftist political organizations and had
been accused of being Stalin s songbird . He was truly against the beliefs of President Roosevelt. He
did not feel that workers rights were a high enough priority for the government. During this period,
Pete Seeger began writing books. His greatest publications include The Bells of Rhymney and Other
Songs and Stories and American Favorite Ballads, Tunes and Folksongs as Sung by Pete Seeger. In the
book Carry it on! A History in Song and Picture of America s Working Men and Women, Seeger and
Reiser tell a story with songs describing every little aspect to the struggle of workers, specifically what
they did in order to make things right. Farm workers have been treated like livestock, herded into
overcrowded dormitories or housed in shacks. In the prosperous 1960 s, the average farm worker
made less than $2000 a year . This example is followed by a song called Deportee which is written
from the perspective of a farmer. Another book The Incompleat Folksinger , explores the many aspects
of folklore music and what impacts it has had on Pete. He describes his songs to tell of

The Environmental Crisis Of Kenya And The United Nations...
The environmental crisis is the biggest crisis of our time, climate change, scarcity of fresh water and
bio diversity loss are just a few of the problems caused by the environmental crisis. National and
international organizations try combat the dire effects of the environmental crisis like The Green Belt
Movement in Kenya and The United Nations framework on Environmental Change, they create
initiatives like sustainable development but they have not succeeded. My essay will introduce my
interpretation of the environmental crisis, then follow with the relationship between poverty and
affluence discussed by scholars Deborah Sik in, Environment and Development and Maggie Black in,
Enter Sustainability and propose, Deborah Sik s insights on property rights and participatory
approaches offer the best explanation for the environmental crisis but Maggie Black s Resource Based
Management for small communities gives better long lasting solutions for the environmental crisis.
My interpretation of environmental crisis and why it has grown exponentially. The environmental
crisis is the most exigent matter of our time. This is evident by environmental changes today, for
example in Enter Sustainability, Maggie Black discusses the probability for water wars due to over
extraction and consumption of water (Black). This claim is corroborated by an article by The
Smithsonian suggesting that shrink water aquifers captured by NASA are partly to blame for the war

Classifying Criminal Cases
There are two different ways to classify crimes in a court of law. One being criminal and the other
civil. In this paper I will explain the difference between civil and criminal law and how these cases are
handled.
Criminal law pertains to a crime or an act against the public rather than one individual. The
government will bring legal action against the person for committing a crime. If the person is found
guilty, the defendant may have to pay some type of a fine, serve time in jail, or be placed on probation
(msbar.org). A civil case is a dispute between two people, or parties, on a certain issue. One party can
sue the other, and it is then up to a jury to determine if there is liability. The court may order the guilty
party to pay money to the other party or to fulfill an obligation.
Civil cases are brought by an individual or corporation wanting to collect money that is owed or
money due to damages for a crime. A criminal case is brought on by the local, state or federal
government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then drove over 90 mph on a two lane road, and swerved around at least 12 other motorists. He
caused cars to stop, as he ran through red lights. The lead officer finally rammed Scott which caused
him to run off the road and crash. Scott was rendered a quadriplegic due to the accident . He sued
Deputy Harris for violating his Fourth Amendment rights and that it was not reasonable to use deadly
force to end the pursuit because he had only committed a traffic violation (Scott v. Harris).
The element of mens rea is when Mr. Scott decided to flee from the police in a routine traffic stop. This
case would be classified as mala prohibita because Mr. Scott decided to run from the police he did it
anyway even though it is prohibited by law to do so. This case also has actus reus which is a guilty
act. The guilty act was Mr. Scott speeding and fleeing from the police(crime

The Full Effects of War Essay
War is one thing that we all know is a necessary evil. The United States has been involved in many
wars since being founded in the late 1700 s. There are many reasons that the United States has been
involved in, or is currently involved in wars. Although war is not always a popular thing to become a
part of, the full effects of the war are not always known and may never be known as long as the United
States is a country. Stephen Crane tells us that there are many effects of war in his poem War is Kind .
From that it can be derived that physical, mental, family, etc are all effects of war needing to be
monitored. All of these effects are causing hardships among the people that are coming home from
these battles either directly or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These effects are all common in the world today, even without war being the cause, many
underdeveloped countries around the world that have the aforementioned malnutrition and suffering.
Hopefully, the United States can help soldiers coming home from wartime missions with the physical
aspects of the home life that they are no longer able to perform anymore. One way that we as a
country can help out the soldiers is to fit them with the limb, or body parts that they have lost.
According to Spc. Lorie Jewell, prosthetics are keeping soldiers in the mainstream of life and in some
cases, on active duty (Jewell). One example of the work that has been put into helping soldiers is the
following; Spc. Lewis, 20, knew very little about prosthetics just a few months ago. A Jan. 21 mortar
attack on an Army camp near Baqubah, Iraq changed that. Lewis was a communications equipment
repair specialist attached to the 588th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division. It
was early evening and he was standing next to his vehicle, talking and smoking with two friends
when, without warning, a mortar round hit them. From the ground Lewis recalled looking up to see
most of his right leg completely severed from his body. The two friends were dead. Two months later,
Lewis was standing on two feet one natural and the other

Increased Population of Prisons Essay
Overcrowded prisons and improper punishment systems are enormous social issues for our
government. The United States has seen steady growth in its prisons. A projected increment in seen
due to get tough policies that locks up offenders for longer sentences (Ohlemacher, 2007, para. 1). The
correction system had been through various phases of transformation, and the government had been
tough on crime; this approach had resulted in rising prison populations. There are many factors that
cause overcrowding prisons in the United States. As a result, prisoners, physically and mentally, suffer
the negative effects of it, and growing prison punishments that led to congested prisons and jails have
shown that tax payers, as well as the government, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that rehabilitation, not imprisonment, is the key to reduce the crime rate. Rehabilitation is the
initiative of healing criminal of his or her criminal inclinations. It tries to change their outlook, their
habits, and possibly even personality, to forgo their tendencies to commit crimes in the future. The
country has a responsibility to help those who fall short of the standards of behaviour government has
set, is the rehabilitative ideal. The offenders are usually folks with the greatest social disadvantages
that have forced them to a life of crime in the first place. If the policies ignore these realities, it will
foster hardships that will descend disproportionately and primarily on the already disadvantaged, and
intensify the anger that many prisoners find difficult to restrain upon their release back into such a
society, which will lead to re offend by these prisoners. The fundamental idea is to prevent a person
from committing the crime again by removing the needs to offend. This methodology is remarkably
different from the idea of deterrence , which is the idea of making criminal frightened to offend,
though he may yet wish to, and the idea of incapacitation , which isolates the criminal and eradicating
his physical power to offend, though he may still desires to.
Prison punishments are not always the answer. A prisoner s life can be simply depicted and directly

Support Childrens and Young Peoples Health and Safety
Unit D6011696: Support Children and Young People s Health and Safety. . Learning Outcome 1:
Understand how to plan and provide environments and services that support children and young
people s health and safety. 1.1 In order to ensure a safe and healthy environment and services for
children/young people there are some factors which need to be taken into account. These include any
equipment which they will be in contact with, such as electrical equipment, anything which may pose
a fire risk, any damaged furniture or fixtures which they may come into contact with. If there are any
cables or anything they may trip over as well as any spillages or anything they may slip on and fall.

Any area which will have children/young people playing in should be assessed before any child/young
person goes into the area to make sure there is nothing harmful for example any broken equipment.
Any issues which are found which may be a risk to health and safety need to be logged and discussed
with other members or staff so that everyone is aware of any risks. Having a set guideline of what
happens if equipment is broken or damaged, is a good idea so that staff know how to manage the
situation and eliminate any future risk. 2.2 In dealing with an accident or hazard for example if a child
was to trip and fall in the playground, there are set instructions to follow to ensure the incident is dealt
with appropriately. This would involve taking the child to a registered first aider within the building to
allow the child to receive treatment on any injury they may have received. An accident for needs to be
filled out so that the accident has been recorded, this then needs to be logged and reported to a senior
member or staff. As well as this the incident will need to be reported to and explain to the parents. An
extra measure would be to carry out an assessment of the playground to make sure there are no
hazards which may have caused the accident such as stones or glass for a child to trip over or no
broken equipment or uneven surfaces which may cause futures problems. 2.3 When undertaking a

Complexities Of Community College Culture Essay
Complexities of Community College Culture
Brooke Adkison Head
University of Alabama
Abstract
Community colleges do not have a single culture, but rather a myriad of cultures. The culture of an
institution in higher education may not fit into a traditional model due to the complexity of academic
culture. Within an institution, there is a dominate culture, as well as subcultures that exist. In addition,
there are administrative cultures that may interact with the academic culture. The administration,
faculty, staff, and students of an institution influence the culture, institutional goals, as well as
individual success. Due to increasing demands and greater accountability in higher education,
administrators are faced with greater challenges. At the community college level, there is an
expectation for timely responsiveness to meet the needs of the community and workforce. Educational
institutions must demonstrate sensitivity to the existing culture when addressing challenges in order to
make progress.

The First Sex Offender Register Law
United States
California enacted the first sex offender register law in 1944. However, sex offender registers in the
United States did not become widespread until the 1990s. The Jacob Wetterling Act 1994 was named
after 11 year old Jacob Wetterling who was abducted and to this day has never been found. The Jacob
Wetterling Act implemented the first nation wide sex offender register. Originally, the concept of a sex
offender register was intended to for use solely by law enforcement; it was not an intention for the sex
offender register to be public. However in 1996, Megan s Law was added to the Wetterling Crimes
Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act 1994 and made it a requirement for
the information on sex offender registers to be accessible by the public. Megan s Law was enacted as a
result of a heinous crime where 7 year old Megan Kanka was raped and murdered by her neighbour,
who had two previous convictions for sexually assaulting young girls. In 2006, Congress passed the
Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act. This Act required states to enact stricter registration
requirements, including an increase in the penalty for not registering and more frequent verification of
sex offenders locations. Since 2006 public access to sex offender registers has been accessible on the
Internet in most states. On these websites you can search for an offender by name or location, and find
information such as their photo, convictions, address,

The Extermination Camp At Chelmno Concentration Camp
During the Nazi Holocaust, multiple working and death camps were created to hold the captured Jews.
While the Jews lived in this camp, they were tortured, mistreated, worked to death and eventually
were put to death by either execution by firearm or were put into a death camp which exterminated the
Jews using poison gas. The Nazi Party had developed many death camps in the central european area
including the 6 death camps of Poland; Auschwitz, Treblinka, Belzec, Chelmno, Sobibor, and
Majdanek.
Little has been published on Chelmno due to its significance as the first extermination camp to
become operational death camp. Chelmno concentration camp was established in November 1941 and
was exclusively used for the executions of Soviet prisoners and Jews, most of whom were Polish. The
extermination camp at Chelmno demands special attention, because during the German occupation
only a very few people in Poland ever knew of its existence and the hundreds of thousands of its
victims. Chelmno introduced the most deadly phase of the Holocaust. Its victims were from 36
communities in western Poland, along with 88 children from Czech town whose population was
decimated as a collective reprisal for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in May of 1942. The
facilities at Chelmno included three gas vans and two crematoria. Gassing at Chelmno began on
December 8, 1941 just hours before Pearl Harbor was struck by Japanese planes. By June of 1942,
Chelmno has produced 20 gas chambers from

Good Country People Wise
Books may teach us many lessons, but real life experience is what makes people wise. Being smart is
not the same as being wise. A person can be smart, he or she can have many degrees and diplomas, but
unless he or she have experience life, they will not be wise. Flannery O Connor s Good Country
People shows that people can be well educated and not be wise. Joy and Mrs. Hopewell think that they
have the world figured out, but when they encounter Manley Pointer, a simple country boy , they will
finally see the world as it is: manipulative and more complex than they ever imagine. Mrs. Hopewell
believes she is wise by being so accepting of others, but she does not realise that she is neglecting the
person that needs her acceptance the most, Joy. Joy thinks she is wise and smart for attending college.
She looks down with disdain at other people but what she does not realise is that she might be smart
but she is not wise. Both Mrs. Hopewell and Joy are tricked by Manley Pointer, the bible salesman,
due to their extreme blindness to their surroundings. Even though Mrs. Hopewell loves her daughter,
she is blind to Joy s need for acceptance. Mrs. Hopewell does not understand that Joy is content with
the way she is, therefore Mrs. Hopewell is alway trying to get Joy to smile and be pleasant. This gets

learning about life through traveling and exploring new things. It excites me when I visit new places,
learn different cultures, and see other people live a life that is different from mine. I just love to travel
because it makes me realize that the world is so beautiful and there is so much to admire and treasure.
Furthermore, i love the feeling I get when I explore new ideas, histories, beliefs, and sceneries. It not
only increases my knowledge, but also helps me overcome problems that I am dealing with. I get to

The Effect Of Birth Order On Personality
For many years, there s been an ongoing debate as to whether birth order truly has an effect on the
way we behave throughout our development. The article I ve selected argues against the notion that
these two correlate. The sample can be found at PNAS.org, otherwise known as the Proceedings of the
National Academy of the United States of America. Titled, Examining the Effects of Birth Order on
Personality three authors collectively come to this agreement that there are no lasting effects from
birth order in long term personality traits. The names of these authors are, Julia M. Roher, Boris
Eglaff, and Stefan C. Schmukle. They explore previous research on the subject from various
psychologists, and later decide to conduct their own research and draw conclusions thereafter.
I found the article to be very straightforward in its approach. The subject matter was presented clearly
within the opening sentences. Each point was elaborated thoroughly, and it was written in a way both
professionals, and average readers could comprehend the language. The terms were relatively
relatable, no advanced medical terminology was mentioned, and evidence was given for each
argument presented in their research. Statistics and table charts played a significant role in
demonstrating credibility of the findings.
There were three distinct points made in contrast to birth order affecting personality. Age, sibship size,
and family design. Age was a contributing factor in terms of long standing

Classroom Behavior Management For African American Students
The number of students being diagnosed with or suspected of having an Emotional/Behavioral
disability is rapidly increasing, especially for African American students and in students at younger
ages. The U.S. Department of Education reports that an African American child is one and a half times
more likely to be placed in a classroom for children with emotional disturbances than a White child
(Children s Defense Fund, 2011). I have observed that many of these students are often disengaged
during literacy instruction. As a result, these students present literacy inadequacies in addition to
behavioral challenges. Incorporating culturally responsive pedagogy and interventions across all
content areas increases a student s ability to comprehend texts. In addition to implementing research
based academic instruction, cultural instructional modifications, adequate teacher preparation for
teaching EBD students, engaging classroom behavior management for teachers of students with
Emotional/Behavioral disability, contribute to the literacy growth of EBD students.
An Emotional/Behavioral Disability is defined by:
(1) the student exhibits social, emotional or behavioral functioning that so departs from generally
accepted, age appropriate ethnic or cultural norms that it adversely affects a child s academic progress,
social relationships, personal adjustment, classroom adjustment, self care or vocational skills; (2) the
behaviors are severe, chronic, and frequent, occur at school and at

Perspectives on the Book of Job Essay
The Book of Job is one of the three books in the Hebrew bible whose genre is described as wisdom
literature.1 Certainly the Book of Job satisfies the literary conventions that qualify a biblical book for
such status. 2 Yet Job may be associated with wisdom in a much more literal sense. The Book of Job
attempts to deal with a problematic question that confronts suffering humanity: why do bad things
happen to good people? The variety and vehemence of commentators contemporary responses to this
chapter of the Bible is testament to the continued relevance of the Book of Job s wisdom thousands of
years after it was written. Although the commentators examined herein arrive at differing and
sometimes conflicting conclusions after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As always, God tests those human beings to whom he is close and whom he loves. 8 It is unclear
whether Buber bases the preceding statement on his personal opinion or on the biblical text. Buber
points out that Job s plaintive cries constitute a form of prayer, and in fact cement his relationship with
God. Buber concludes that Job passed God s test, successfully bore witness to his God 9 and has the
eternal mission of serving God. One comes away from Buber with the impression that both God s
behavior and Job suffering are morally justified.
In contrast to Buber s vindication of God s role and glorification of Job s suffering, C. G. Jung
excoriates God for his crimes 10 in an excerpt from Answer to Job11. Setting an irreverent tone, Jung
begins by stating that God s thunderings... completely miss the point 12 by failing to address Job s
questions, demonstrating God s self absorption. Jung points out that God s self aggrandizing diatribe
only makes sense if directed towards a doubting thought , which can only be Satan. Jung suggests that
God has turned his verbal displeasure on Job rather than Satan in order to avoid facing the fact that he
was duped by Satan into sanctioning the punishment of his most faithful follower.
Job realizes that the self centered God speaking from the whirlwind has no interest in Job s rights, and
thus Job has no choice but to retract his demand for justice 13 and submit to the divine omnipotence

Dehumanization In The Pianist By Wladyslaw Szpilman
The Pianist is a movie that shows the life of one man, Wladyslaw Szpilman who was a popular Jewish
Pole radio station pianist. In the World War II which is a background of the movie, How Szpilman
suffered and how he survived are presented in the movie. While the movie portrays Szpilman s life, it
also shows how the Jewish people are dehumanized by Nazi during the war. The director, Roman
Polanski, successfully uses camera angle, lighting and plot structure, and characterization to present
the theme of dehumanization.
One technique that is used by Polanski is camera angles. The use of camera angles has enabled the
audience to see how unimportant the Polish Jews to the Nazis and therefore why they are
dehumanised. For instance, they use a panning shot to show the line of the Jewish while waiting next
to each other just before the Nazis shoot them down. This panning shot clearly shows the number of
polish people who were standing on the line and how unimportant when they are just shot down with
no interest in their individualities which are individual human beings. So this very clearly shows how
the Nazis dehumanised the polish Jews. Another example of the camera angles used is seen in the
scene that closes up the Jewish people s face who is waiting for the death with bullet loading sound.
This close up shot clearly shows the fear, miseries, and dread that the Jewish people can feel just
before the Nazis shoot and how they are deprived the happiness that they can feel as a human. Hence,
this also effectively shows how the polish Jews are dehumanised emotionally by the nazis. The theme
of dehumanization of Polish Jews is clearly conveyed, as the camera angles successfully show how
unimportant the Jews were regarded and how they feel.
Another technique that is used is changing light with reference to the plot structure. The use of
lighting has allowed the audience to see the obvious contrast between the beginning when Szpilman
was having a happy life, and after the Nazi came and occupied so that how Polish Jews are getting
dehumanised. For instance, the light was extremely bright at the beginning of the film, Szpilman was

La Llorona Research Paper
La Llorona Have you ever heard of a beautiful women but very dangerous? That is the way my
parents started the story before I had all of those nightmares thinking of this very myth that my parents
told me. When you finish reading this paper you ll probably have chills running down your spines
thinking about her. From the longest time my ancestors and parents can remember, that myth was told
to them. La Llorona is a sad but scary mexican myth that has been in the hispanic culture for a long
time. But, some people swear it is true! La Llorona developed long long time ago in the hispanic
region. The myth was developed over 500 years ago in a small village that La Llorona was living in
and where she died. La Llorona is a beautiful lady but very dangerous. She was crazy, well, that is
what everyone says. This myth has been changed throughout the time. ... Show more content on

mistaken them for her children and take them away. This myth can relate to The Banshee an Irish
myth. This relates to it because they both do a wailing or weeping sound and they both wear white.
Also, they are similar because The Banshee cries when certain people die and La Llorona cried when
she drowned her children. Finally, you can also hear their cries still today. Now, the way i was told the

Thomas Cole The Oxbow
WESTWARD EXPANSIONISM After viewing the five different works of art offered to write this
essay, the piece that spoke to me personally and emotionally was The Oxbow, painted by the artist
Thomas Cole in 1836. I truly love the outdoors aspect of pure and unadulterated nature isolated from
societies approach to technology, over population, and lack of true freedom. I go camping and hiking
with my daughter whenever possible, so I truly appreciate the recognition of natures beauty and
vitality. The artist used canvas with oil and the medium and its dimensions are 51 ½ x 76 in. Upon
further inspection I realized that the painting shows juxtaposing with the tamed and cultured land on
the right and the untainted and untouched nature, with brooding darkened clouds on the left. The
contrast of light and dark colors also indicate this and whispers to my subconscious. The Oxbow will
subliminally remind anyone that the subject is the controversial ... Show more content on

There is a line on the bottom half of the work that goes up diagonally towards the left. Obviously this
is how the artist brings contrast into play to depict his message of civilization on the right and
untouched nature on the left. Secondly, there are two trees on the far left, possessing hard lines that
draw ones eye towards the top left corner towards the darkened clouds. In my opinion, Thomas clearly
brings startling detail and political conclusions about the time of expansion and the negative
commentary that surrounded it. Moreover, there is a short hill with light lines highlighting the still
scarred land. The art of persuasion is skillfully utilized to illustrate how taming the land can bring
positive and beneficial changes, although surrounded with negative undertones of raping the land.
While lines have been skillfully utilized, there are other elements to consider such as

Horror Film History
According to Prince (2004), horror films today are more disturbing than those produced during the
genres establishment. During the classical Hollywood era, horror films were located in distant places,
in the woods or abandoned territories. The films would mostly show a group of people going to a
camp where the horror would then take place, or while on a trip, the vehicle would stop halfway in an
unknown place, and the horror would also begin. All scenes would then take place in that abandoned
place chosen by the film. At the end of the film, monsters were killed by the hero. The hero would
then go on to live his live normal, after returning safely to his hometown where it was safe (Prince
2004). The sense of horror taking place in unknown places,

The Story Of Joseph As A History Lesson
The story of Joseph is one of my favorite in the Bible. Not because it has a happy ending, but because
it shows us some incredible attributes of God. As with most biblical study, it s important to not read
the story of Joseph as a history lesson, but rather to focus in on what God is doing, what is motivating
God, and how God responds to people. In this case, there are some profound theological concepts that
can be recognized from just looking a little deeper into the scriptures, past the narrative of what s
happening with Joseph. We get both a wonderful image of God s grace and of His beautiful design for
how things work together for those who love Him. Further, we see God as constantly at work, more
even in the grimy, messy times when it probably seems to Joseph that He is the furthest away. In many
ways, the underlying theme through the story of Joseph s life directly addresses one of my biggest
questions early in my walk in faith: If God is good, why does He let bad things happen?
The story of Joseph starts well before he was born, and the setting of things that would happen to him
later in life really began when his father Jacob met his mother. The Bible tells us that Jacob took to
Rachel, Joseph s mother, immediately. In Genesis 29:10 11 (ESV), it says Now as soon as Jacob saw
Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother s brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother s brother, Jacob
came near and rolled the stone from the well s mouth and watered the flock of Laban his

Pasadena City College Internship Report
During my past three years at Pasadena City College I was able to explore courses and narrow my
interests in a way that may not have been possible at an expensive university. While I have always had
an interest in the technical and scientific disciplines, out of high school I was unfocused. I wanted to
be a part of something that impacted my community in a positive manner. When first looking into
careers I never considered a technical based career, mainly due to family career history. However, as I
began to excel in math and MESA organizers got more involved in my success I realized there was a
space for my interest in STEM.
Throughout my academic endeavor I have earned a spot in two very diverse internships. My first
internship was with LADOT. It focused on my individual skills and how to apply them to singular
tasks. I was primarily involved in GIS mapping and worked alongside traffic and computer engineers.
Though this was an informative and rigorous internship I found my true inspiration in my engineering
professor at Pasadena City College. Dr. Arzoumanian is a successful civil engineer with practice in the
private sector. After discussing with her the positive experiences that she has had I knew that I wanted

A Doll s House Gender Essay
Throughout much of English literature, gender and sex have been carefully analyzed. Often, a literary
character can be identified as either male or female simply based on the character s behavior or on the
way they are described by the author. Gender is not the biological traits that society uses to assign a
person into either female or male; this is called sex. Gender is the repeated socialization over time that
leads men and women to fall into a false sense that they are acting naturally, rather than following a
socially constructed role. In A Doll House , Henrik Ibsen appoints specific stereotypical gender roles
to each of his characters to show how gender has been constructed by social expectations. One of the
most obvious issues that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Male roles in A Doll House are presented through two characters: Torvald Helmer and Nils Krogstad.
In the first place, Torvald Helmer is a mirror image of the stereotypical male gender. To him, social
expectations surrounding his gender must be met. He holds on to the belief that a man s role in
marriage is to protect and guide his wife. Also, Torvald believes that all husbands have a right to their
wives bodies. He asks Aren t I your husband ? (Isben 832) after Nora resists having sex with him. This
demonstrates how male figures of the 19th century thought they had all the power, especially when
behind closed doors. As Parker (2003) describes, in common Victorian society, the husband did not
view their wives as equals but rather an amusement or possession . Torvald enjoys the idea that Nora
needs instruction and is quite eager to show her how to dance the tarantella. Torvald is very
overbearing and treats his wife Nora like a doll. The Helmer household acts as an enclosure to shelter
the entire family from the cruelties of the outside world. Another stereotypical trait of Torvald Helmer
s is that he has a steady job and is very conscious of his appearance in the community. He has the
desire to stay in good rankings thus fires Krogstad from the bank as to not make [himself] ridiculous

Essay on The Landlords of the Oceans
The Landlords of the Oceans
Have you ever thought about the landlords of the oceans? There is a saying: Big fish eats the smaller
ones. The most powerful and deadly animals who taste the freedom of the sea world are whales. So
many kinds of whales exist. One of the most interesting kinds is the bottle nosed whale. It is no
wonder why they are given this name. Their bulbous forehead and elongated snout give them a unique
character. Besides these unique physical characteristics, they have other special qualities as well
including their rarity and their enormous size. Northern species and southern species are the two types
of bottle nosed whales that are categorized by the difference in their size, living habitats and mating
seasons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Northern species are gray with a lighter underside and a pale band around the neck. The color of
southern species varies more; they have blue black, gray, brown or yellow bodies and light colored
snouts and undersides. However, they share a common treat, males have two conical teeth in the lower
jaw and females have no teeth. In short, the size, color and the shape of bottle nosed whales vary
according to where they are found.
The second quality is their living habitats. Both of the species usually inhabit cold waters deeper than
3000ft. They are most often observed in deep trenches or canyons in the sea floor. Northern bottle
nosed whales live in the North Atlantic. Significant populations are found in a vast undersea canyon
near Sable Island, Nova Scotia, and north and west of Scotland near the Shetland Islands, the Orkney
Islands, and the Outer Hebrides Islands. Southern bottle nosed whales range throughout the Southern
Hemisphere from Antarctica north to the equator. In winter, they are sighted occasionally off the
coasts of the Hawaiian Islands and Japan, as well as in the Pacific and Indian oceans. The third quality
is their mating. Both southern and northern species mating takes place during the spring. After a
gestational period of about 11 months, female bottle nosed whales deliver a single baby and then nurse
it for nearly a year. They give birth every two or three years. The

Argument On Fact Constructivism
I don t support fact constructivism because its fallible as its fundamental idea is that we construct facts
and their existence depends upon us meaning even facts that obtained before our existence are
dependent on us. In this essay my primary focus will be evaluating absolute fact
constructivism(chapter 3)and one significant claim as well as an argument for and against it in order to
justify why I don t support fact constructivism.
What we call absolute fact constructivism in essence is a constructivist theses which states that the
existence of facts is dependent solely on humans it also states that the creation of facts by humans

Boghossian refers to this claim that Goodman and Rorty are gesturing at as the Description
Dependence of Facts. Boghossian explains that Description Dependence of Facts is a thesis which
states that all facts are description dependent: there cannot be a fact of the matter as to how things are
with the world independently of our propensity to describe the world as being a certain way. Once we
adopt a particular scheme for describing the world, there then come to be facts about the world. This
thesis is a variation of the view that all facts are mind independent as only minds can describe the
world; Boghossian partly agrees with this view as he does acknowledge that some facts are indeed
mind dependent and he gives examples such as that there could be no fact such as money if we
humans didn t construct that fact; however he believes that logic cant apply to all facts such as
dinosaurs or electrons which don t rely on humans for their existence. Boghossian has trouble
identifying a solid argument for absolute fact constructivism and this is worsened by the fact that he
believes that there is a thesis which is similar to absolute fact constructivism to an extent but then
again the very same thesis supports fact objectivism which goes against absolute fact constructivism
and the result is it weakens the argument for absolute fact constructivism and makes it seem
implausible than it actually is Boghossian calls this thesis Social Relativity of Descriptions.

Chemical decency residential programs are a combination of hospitalization and a therapeutic
community. The programs are usually three to eight weeks in length and they are counseled by
recovering alcoholics with little formal training. These private pay programs are the most common
form of residential treatment although they are now reduced in number.
Medical assisted treatment is not nearly as popular as residential treatment, but it is beginning to play
a more important role in outpatient recovery. When using medication to aid recovery there are three
basic approaches to take: antagonism, substitution, or the use of a drug that is medically incompatible.
Antagonism requires total a blockage of the abused drug, while substitution allows the use of another
drug to reduce the craving for the abused drug. Giving an addict a drug that is medically incompatible
with the abused drug will cause them to become sick any time that they use the abused drug. Crisis
clinics are a form of outpatient help, they range from telephone hotlines, to emergency associated
clinics, to crash pads. Community mental health

Women And Women During The French Revolution
During the French Revolution, namely 1789, men and women were both dealing with change in
government, society, and many different aspects of life. Two documents that represent the rights of
men and women are Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen and The Vindication of the
Rights of Woman. These two documents are similar in content because they describe how men and
women should be treated as equals in society. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen

The author of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen was technically the Government
of France. This document expressed the liberal and universal ideas of the Enlightenment (Perry, 110).
The idea and motivation of the declaration came partly from the ideas of the American Revolution and
from General Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson. This document was largely influenced by the ideas of
natural rights and altogether, the intended audience would be the citizens of France in which the
declaration and its contents were pertaining to. The articles in the document establish sovereignty
within the French people, and made apparent that everyone was a Frenchman, and equal (Sherman,
521). In return, the French people favored the declaration; however a good amount of the nobles and
king did not. As for the contents of the document, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the
Citizen, they were basically a list of rights, set up just like the Bill of Rights. Here is a general
overview of the list of rights in the declaration: men are born and remain free; preservation of the
natural and imprescriptible rights of man; the nation is the source of all sovereignty, and no individual
can be entitled to any authority not derived from it; Political Liberty consists in the power of doing
whatever does not injure another; the law should prohibit only actions harmful to society; the law is an

concern yourself about is because I tell you to do so. Have them open wide and fastened properly (40).
This shows that the Captain has become more confident and his feelings of inadequacy has vanished.
He no longer feels insecure about himself or ordering of his crewmen. He also orders the men to move
the ship closer to the island, giving Leggatt a chance to escape and survive. The Chief Mate responds
by saying, Do you mean, sir, in the dark amongst the lot of all them islands and reefs and shoals? (45).
Instead of hesitating or doubting, the Captain responds calmly, saying that they must go to find the
land breezes. This shows the Captain s confidence in himself and his judgement. Although the crew is
afraid, the Captain fearlessly leads the ship to the island. This is the first time that the Captain has
taken full control of the ship without second guessing himself or worrying about what the crewmen
will think of him. No one in the world should stand now between us, throwing a shadow on the way of
his silent knowledge and mute affection, the perfect communion of a seaman with his first command

Introduction In this chemical reaction, the magnesium will dissolve in the hydrochloric acid to
produce hydrogen gas. This is because magnesium is higher than hydrogen in the reactivity series.
Therefore, when the two reactants are combined, a displacement reaction occus and the magnesium

If there is more surface area exposed to the hydrochloric acid, the particles of acid will have a greater
area of magnesium to react with and form successful collisions, thus increasing the rate of reaction.
Volume of Hydrochloric Acid Used: An overall volume of 50ml of hydrochloric acid and water should
be used for every trial. If a lesser volume is used, this will decrease the rate of reaction as there will be
less particles in the HCl to collide with the Mg particles, which will lessen the chance for creating a
successful collision, and thus lower the rate of the chemical reactions. Timing of the experiment: Bung
with delivery tube should be placed on the conical flask as soon as possible after the magnesium
ribbon is dropped. This will ensure that as much of the hydrogen gas gets measured in the measuring
cylinder above the trough, in order to obtain accurate measurements when calculating the rate of
reactions. Stopwatch will begin as soon as the magnesium is dropped into the hydrochloric acid, so
that the timing of the reaction is measured accurately. Cleaning of the magnesium: The ribbon of
magnesium will be cleaned with sandpaper to remove the coating on the magnesium metal caused by
reactions with atmospheric gases. This needs to be done so that the measuring cylinder measures the

Grimm s version the prince get tricked twice but spared by the birds. In which this lowers the prince s
status and he seems less heroic, and raising Cinderella s status as a strong willed individuals. Brothers
Grimm portrays Cinderella as a headstrong orphan who becomes a heroine by standing up for herself
even though it may result in punishment in which is completely different from the other versions
because the prince try to find Cinderella and become the heroic person. Also, the writing style is
different which completely modifies the tale. The significance throughout

Harriet Tubman And The Underground Railroad
The underground railroad is a secret network for helping slaves escape from the South to the North
and to Canada in the years before the Civil War ( Oxford Dictionaries | The World s Most Trusted
Dictionary Provider ). It is called this because although the Underground Railroad was neither
underground, or a railroad, the system worked in a similar fashion to a railroad( Fast Facts The
Underground Railroad ). The passengers followed a route; there were many stops; a conductor led the
way, which explains the railroad part( Fast Facts The Underground Railroad ). It was underground
because it had to be a secretive operation in order to succeed, and the runaway slaves often had to hide
to stay safe( Fast Facts The Underground Railroad ). It is said to have started around 1830 and went on
until 1865, the end of slavery in the United States and it was formed as a convergence of various
clandestine efforts. There were people who guided the fugitive slaves, known as conductors . One of
the more famous conductors was Harriet Tubman. Many others, who wanted slavery to end, also
known as abolitionists, participated in helping slaves make their way to freedom. Hiding places
included private homes, churches, and schoolhouses, called stations, safe houses, and depots, and are
operated by people called stationmasters. According to history.com, most of the slaves helped by the
Underground Railroad escaped borders states like Kentucky, Virginia, and Maryland. ... Show more

Love Medicine Summary
A Message of Hope in Love Medicine
Love Medicine, by Louis Eldridge attempts to confront the popular stereotypes of American Indians.
The novel generally follows the history of a family of Chippewa Indians who live on and off a
reservation.
In a thoroughly humanist approach, Ms. Eldrige narrates each chapter in a different voice, and through
extremely varied characters effectively shows the diversity of the Indians. This is an important aspect
of the novel, as it demonstrates that there is no single stereotypical Indian . The book begins with two
scenes from a modern perspective, showing a turbulent family with fairly disturbing problems. Then
the author flashes back to the lives of the Chippewa s family two generations ... Show more content on

Maybe this image came in several varieties but all images of the Indian had one common point:
Indians were another historical fact coupled with the romanticized images portrayed by the media. Our
outlook on Native Americans as a society is one which attaches every individual American Indian with
a cultural past which has absolutely nothing to do with the present day. Expecting an American Indian
to retain cultural beliefs and societal practices reflective of his heritage is like expecting an urbanized
American Swede to carry out a traditional 1500 s Swedish lifestyle in the 1990 s.
It is this issue which Love Medicine adresses so skillfully. The Chippewa family in the story is very
large. From the very beginning we see scenes of infidelity, drunken rampages, strained marriages,
hate, and poverty. These scenes offer a look into the lifestyle of the modern Native American which is
strikingly different from the comfortable images that we all harbor; images of a noble people living off
the land, in harmony with nature. So much for the romantic view of the noble savage . This leaves the
reader in the uncomfortable situation reconciling the two extremes images. The compromise is found
in the stories of the book. The individual narratives which show the world through the eyes of the
Chippewa s. A close examination of the stories reveals a subtle difference between everyday American
thought, and Chippewa thought. American s live in a

Financial Aid In Higher Education Aims To Make Tuition
Financial aid in higher education aims to make tuition fees affordable. According to Ehrenberg (2002)
pointed out that financial aid has three main objectives: to increase access and persistence (enroll more
students), to increase affordability (make higher education cheaper for students and their families),
and to promote equality of opportunity (make sure disadvantaged students can go to University). The
student s aid programs are also differentiated on the basis of types which are loans, Grants, students
employment and scholarship
2.4.1 Grants and Scholarship
These are non repayable student financial aid package, according to Daniels, (as cited in Rentz
Saddlemire, 1988) classified the different type of grants. First is ... Show more content on

In South Africa the government established the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) in
1996, to enable students without financial resources can attend university, and the NSFAS provides
loans to universities students. These loans are administered by the institutions themselves and are part
of the Financial Aid Package (FAP) awarded to students on the basis of annual gross family income
and to what is known as level of need. Other criteria used by universities include family size, the
distance of the home from an institution, and the number of siblings at the university. Loans usually
cover tuition costs but in cases of extreme need, they may also cover living costs and traveling
expenses (Council on Higher Education s policy report, 2004).
2.4.3 Students Employment
In many countries especially in the USA and Europe, the students are employed while attending a
university; the jobs provided or designed by the University are considered as the student financial aid.
The student affairs officers can place students in jobs that complement their academic interest
(Dannells, 1977). Furthermore, bursaries and loans are also available from private companies and
commercial banks. For example, some companies provide contract bursaries to students and require
that after graduation the recipient work for the company or organization that made the award
(Adelman, 2010).

Analysis Of Unwind
Unwind Message
Many people will go through experiences in their lives where they feel like they are changing. It is as
if life has dealt them enough experiences that their personalities have been altered because of it.
Unwind by Neal Shusterman shows how the past experiences people go through may dictate who they
become and the decisions they may make in the future through the lives of Roland, Admiral Dunfee,
and Lev.
Throughout the novel, Roland is portrayed as an aggressive young man who has the desire to fight
anyone who gets in his way. Yet as the readers soon discover, he is a young man with a very troubled
past. Roland s past shapes who he becomes today in that he is very distrusting of women due to the
experiences he has gone through. As Connor finds out in the basement of the antique shop, Roland s
mother essentially abandoned him for her husband. As the novel states, That s not what did him in,
though. Roland had beaten up his stepfather for beating his mom. The mother took her husband s side,
and the stepfather got off with a warning. Roland, on the other hand, was sent to be unwound
(Schusterman 99). After Roland s mother abandoned him for his stepfather, he began to fight other
individuals in order to gain power. Another example of Roland s distrust for women comes at the very
end of the novel when he is being unwound and he is recalling memories from his past. Roland
recalls, When I was three, I had a babysitter. She was beautiful. She shook my sister. Real hard. My
sister got wrong. Never got right again. Beautiful is dangerous. Better get them first (Schusterman
293). After this experience, Roland is likely to never trust women, or other beautiful people, again. For
him to experience both his mother s abandonment and his sister s injuries at the hand of the babysitter,
Roland chooses not to trust women again, resulting in his poor treatment of Risa, and the other
females he comes in contact with.
Admiral Dunfee, similarly, is affected by his past. When the novel first introduces the Admiral, he is
portrayed as a cold hearted dictator in charge of hundreds of Unwinds, but there is a reason the
Admiral comes off as distant. When the Unwinds first arrive at The Graveyard, they are expected to

Organizational Structures Have Impacted Organizational...
Organizational structures have changed greatly in the last fifty years. Whereas most organizations
were once rigid and centralized, most organizations are now taking advantage of flexible and
decentralized structures. These new structures have affected the standard relationships between
employees and managers. Additional layers of management have been created which blur the lines
between the functions of managers and the functions of employees. Employees have become decision
makers, and some managers barely have any authoritative power. Subsequently, these changes to
organizational structures have impacted organizational strategies. This too, expounds upon the
increased power of the employee and the reduced authority of the manager. The changes in
organizational strategies make use of the dispersion of power in order to reduce costs and enable
additional safeguards within these organizations.
Pertaining to the neoteric avant garde in bureaucratic concatenations from parochial to insouciant,
more unerringly decentralization and the divergence of paramountcy, nuclear transmogrifications have
germinated which perturb the paradigmatic consanguinity betwixt suzerains and proletariats. For
example, employees are now often given a budget with which they can use to rectify an issue that a
customer may have. To illustrate, an up and coming grocery store called The Fresh Market grants each
employee the power to provide free merchandise to any customer, up to a twenty five dollar

Metropolitan Individuality
Everything changed after money. Small changed in the metropolis change everything, like George
Simmel supported. It s like living in a jinga. The money is one of these small things that change the
way of living life and their attitude in the public. Money is the all reason of change in people s daily
lives which also create new classes such as burgeoise. Metropolitan individuality is di erent which is
more intellectual, rational. 18th century liberation changed all the balance and understanding of
money, way of using money and the reason of its devaluation. While the metropolis people are more
forced and isolated, it might be easy for them to balance but the small change can alter everything in
the big circle.
The way of using money changed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Modernity brings more control in people s life so that s the side of burgeoise like Loos explained. The
connection with the city, the market and art become a cycle that a ects each others and brings more
obsession to money. It might not be mentioned in any text but this obsession to money and unhealthy
thinking of being attached to something might be the next level of American Dream where people
focus on one thing without having the purpose and controlled by something or someone. However
there is an another class in the public that use the ornament. Ornament wasn t expressed individuality
in burgeoise but in the degenerate and criminal side of the public, ornament(tattoos) is more like a ban
that people have. It s already in the individual which is already the opposite part of burgeoise.
Ornament is no longer the production and expression of culture like in the metropolis stories but it s
more an object to evoke degeneration. Prisoners or criminals started to name with the ornament di
erent than ornament is being utilitarian object. So according to two di erent texts of Loos , expression
of ornament in di erent people and di erent parts of the society create an distinction in the public that
leads more to shape to people s moralism in

Hybridity In Latin America
rved in different parts of Latin American and how it has become a popular holiday in the United
States. When I went to La Placita Olvera I got to observe how this holiday is becoming popular among
many people in Los Angeles. I saw many people from different cultures dressed up as skeletons and
had their faces painted. Many tourists were taking pictures with the Cannons and Nikon cameras and
really enjoyed the festival. I feel that this holiday will eventually become mainstream and global,
which is scary because this holiday can lose it significance and purpose of honoring the dead. The
article also focused on the idea of hybridity and how this holiday is a process of selectively combing
elements of cultural practices and beliefs to make meaning.

Social And Natural Resource Issues
For this week s forum, I hold the view of a normative pluralistic which relates the environmental and
natural resource issue of irreversible changes caused by negative consequences for a healthy planet.
Normative pluralism is considered not to be as radical as the belief of a fundamentalist pluralist.
Formally, a normative pluralist assumes that there is a plurality of bearers of value (Stanford
Encyclopedia of Philosophy, 2011). The irreversible changes caused by negative consequences for a
healthy planet can be associated will the failure to widely produce agreements globally to tackle
environmental and natural resource issues. In the article, Global Green Pluralism, pluralistic values
discussed that support my argument are comprised of the division of labor amongst governments and
nongovernmental actors to govern the environment.
Some of the values that play a key role in the overall support the creation of an effective
environmental and/or natural resource policy to preserve the environment consist of actors/governance
components, agenda setting, networks, negotiation, compliance, implementation, and resilience. A
brief detailed description of each value is listed below.
Actors and governance components include public, private, and a civil society that engage in the
authority of regulating factors that impact the environment based on their relationships. In various
ways they are able to fulfill a host of governance over activities across their components. These

The Price of Diamonds Is too High Essay
The price of diamonds is too high
This essay discusses the statement the price of diamonds is too high ; it will analyze the diamond
cartel and its history in order to determine the validity of this statement. Various microeconomic
theories will be discussed and explained, all of which are involved in the diamond cartel. The Oxford
Dictionary defines a cartel as an association of manufacturers or suppliers with the purpose of
maintaining prices at a high level and restricting competition [Oxford Dictionaries; unknown].
Therefore, the diamond cartel consists of a group of manufacturers/suppliers of diamonds who come
together in order to restrict supply and as a result increase the price of diamonds. This essay will
focus, mainly; on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this changed in 1870 when diamond mines were found in Kimberly (South Africa) [ Have
you ever tried to sell a diamond? Edward Jay Epstein; unknown]. This discovery was a huge danger to
the few manufactures and suppliers of diamonds as with the large amounts, and therefore the increased
supply, of diamonds, they would no longer be considered rare/scare [Ivona Vogelsang; 2005];
therefore their value and price would decrease as a result. This can be understood by using the
diminishing marginal utility theory, the more people have of something (or the greater the
quantity/supply) the less it is valued (the lower the utility) [Michael Parkin et al.; 2010]. The less it is
valued, the less people are willing to pay (unless it is price inelastic) as a result decreasing the price of
the product/service.
De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd. identified this threat and 18 years after the discovery in Kimberly
they became integrated into South Africa. In order to monopolize De Beers began to buy, from African
nations, private mining rights, they also managed to control mine output in order to restrict the supply
of diamonds. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts to limit the supply of diamonds with the
intention of increasing their price, in the 1930 s the demand for diamonds started to decrease rapidly
[Ivona Vogelsang; 2005]. In response to the large decrease

  • 2. Beowulf Christian Influence Essay Christian Influence on Beowulf and The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki In Beowulf the Christian influence is revealed through approximately 70 passages in which the form of expression or the thought suggests Christian usage or doctrine (Blackburn 3); The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki is in its own way infused with Christian values even though it preserves remnants of the cult of Odin. The Christian element seems to be too deeply interwoven in the text of Beowulf for us to suppose that it is due to additions made by scribes at a time when the poem had come to be written down. The Christian element had to be included by the original poet or by minstrels who recited it in later times. The extent to which the Christian element is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... E. Talbot Donaldson says: Yet there is no reference to the New Testament to Christ and His Sacrifice which are the real bases of Christianity in any intelligible sense of the term. (Bloom 1). The minstrels who introduced the Christian element probably had but a vague knowledge of Christianity, much of it probably coming from other poets who were Christian, like Caedmon, who is mentioned in Bede s The Ecclesiastical History of the English People (215 18). Caedmon s Hymn has but few lines extant: . . . the power of the Creator, the profound mind of the glorious Father, who fashioned the beginning of every wonder, the eternal Lord. For the children of men he made first heaven as a roof, the holy Creator. . . .(Alexander 6) The Christian references in Beowulf include four allusions to Genesis, including the Creation, Cain and Abel and the Flood. There are dozens of references to God in the Christian sense, plus other epithets for God: lord, father, creator, ruler, almighty, ruler of men, ruler of glory, shepherd of glory, king of glory, guider of the heavens, ruler of victories, king of victories (Chadwick 24). While the poet s reflections and characters statements are mostly Christian, the customs and ceremonies, on the other hand, are almost entirely heathen/pagan (Ward v1,ch3,s3,n17): At the beginning of the poem, there is the account of the pagan funeral rites of Scyld ... Pete Seeger is an absolute inspiration to many people around the world today. Not only was Pete Seeger just a singer/songwriter, he was also an important political activist, the author of several dozen books, an environmentalist as well as a peace advocator. He plays a very significant role in terms of historical influences. As a man of many identities, Pete Seeger will always remain an influential individual in regards to American History. During the 1960 s, Pete was mainly concerned with equality and fairness of the people. He participated in many civil rights protests and marches. He organized many social rallies that he participated in as well. His political beliefs were devoted to the leftist political organizations and had been accused of being Stalin s songbird . He was truly against the beliefs of President Roosevelt. He did not feel that workers rights were a high enough priority for the government. During this period, Pete Seeger began writing books. His greatest publications include The Bells of Rhymney and Other Songs and Stories and American Favorite Ballads, Tunes and Folksongs as Sung by Pete Seeger. In the book Carry it on! A History in Song and Picture of America s Working Men and Women, Seeger and Reiser tell a story with songs describing every little aspect to the struggle of workers, specifically what they did in order to make things right. Farm workers have been treated like livestock, herded into overcrowded dormitories or housed in shacks. In the prosperous 1960 s, the average farm worker made less than $2000 a year . This example is followed by a song called Deportee which is written from the perspective of a farmer. • 4. The Environmental Crisis Of Kenya And The United Nations... The environmental crisis is the biggest crisis of our time, climate change, scarcity of fresh water and bio diversity loss are just a few of the problems caused by the environmental crisis. National and international organizations try combat the dire effects of the environmental crisis like The Green Belt Movement in Kenya and The United Nations framework on Environmental Change, they create initiatives like sustainable development but they have not succeeded. My essay will introduce my interpretation of the environmental crisis, then follow with the relationship between poverty and affluence discussed by scholars Deborah Sik in, Environment and Development and Maggie Black in, Enter Sustainability and propose, Deborah Sik s insights on property rights and participatory approaches offer the best explanation for the environmental crisis but Maggie Black s Resource Based Management for small communities gives better long lasting solutions for the environmental crisis. My interpretation of environmental crisis and why it has grown exponentially. The environmental crisis is the most exigent matter of our time. This is evident by environmental changes today, for example in Enter Sustainability, Maggie Black discusses the probability for water wars due to over extraction and consumption of water (Black). This claim is corroborated by an article by The Smithsonian suggesting that shrink water aquifers captured by NASA are partly to blame for the war in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Classifying Criminal Cases There are two different ways to classify crimes in a court of law. One being criminal and the other civil. In this paper I will explain the difference between civil and criminal law and how these cases are handled. Criminal law pertains to a crime or an act against the public rather than one individual. The government will bring legal action against the person for committing a crime. If the person is found guilty, the defendant may have to pay some type of a fine, serve time in jail, or be placed on probation (msbar.org). A civil case is a dispute between two people, or parties, on a certain issue. One party can sue the other, and it is then up to a jury to determine if there is liability. The court may order the guilty party to pay money to the other party or to fulfill an obligation. Civil cases are brought by an individual or corporation wanting to collect money that is owed or money due to damages for a crime. • 6. The Full Effects of War Essay War is one thing that we all know is a necessary evil. The United States has been involved in many wars since being founded in the late 1700 s. There are many reasons that the United States has been involved in, or is currently involved in wars. Although war is not always a popular thing to become a part of, the full effects of the war are not always known and may never be known as long as the United States is a country. Stephen Crane tells us that there are many effects of war in his poem War is Kind . From that it can be derived that physical, mental, family, etc are all effects of war needing to be monitored. All of these effects are causing hardships among the people that are coming home from these battles either directly or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These effects are all common in the world today, even without war being the cause, many underdeveloped countries around the world that have the aforementioned malnutrition and suffering. Hopefully, the United States can help soldiers coming home from wartime missions with the physical aspects of the home life that they are no longer able to perform anymore. One way that we as a country can help out the soldiers is to fit them with the limb, or body parts that they have lost. According to Spc. Lorie Jewell, prosthetics are keeping soldiers in the mainstream of life and in some cases, on active duty (Jewell). One example of the work that has been put into helping soldiers is the following; Spc. Lewis, 20, knew very little about prosthetics just a few months ago. A Jan. 21 mortar attack on an Army camp near Baqubah, Iraq changed that. Lewis was a communications equipment repair specialist attached to the 588th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division. It was early evening and he was standing next to his vehicle, talking and smoking with two friends when, without warning, a mortar round hit them. From the ground Lewis recalled looking up to see most of his right leg completely severed from his body. The two friends were dead. The United States has seen steady growth in its prisons. A projected increment in seen due to get tough policies that locks up offenders for longer sentences (Ohlemacher, 2007, para. 1). The correction system had been through various phases of transformation, and the government had been tough on crime; this approach had resulted in rising prison populations. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that rehabilitation, not imprisonment, is the key to reduce the crime rate. Rehabilitation is the initiative of healing criminal of his or her criminal inclinations. It tries to change their outlook, their habits, and possibly even personality, to forgo their tendencies to commit crimes in the future. The country has a responsibility to help those who fall short of the standards of behaviour government has set, is the rehabilitative ideal. The offenders are usually folks with the greatest social disadvantages that have forced them to a life of crime in the first place. If the policies ignore these realities, it will foster hardships that will descend disproportionately and primarily on the already disadvantaged, and intensify the anger that many prisoners find difficult to restrain upon their release back into such a society, which will lead to re offend by these prisoners. The fundamental idea is to prevent a person from committing the crime again by removing the needs to offend. This methodology is remarkably different from the idea of deterrence , which is the idea of making criminal frightened to offend, though he may yet wish to, and the idea of incapacitation , which isolates the criminal and eradicating his physical power to offend, though he may still desires to. Prison punishments are not always the answer. A prisoner s life can be simply depicted and directly related to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An accident for needs to be filled out so that the accident has been recorded, this then needs to be logged and reported to a senior member or staff. • 11. The First Sex Offender Register Law United States California enacted the first sex offender register law in 1944. However, sex offender registers in the United States did not become widespread until the 1990s. The Jacob Wetterling Act 1994 was named after 11 year old Jacob Wetterling who was abducted and to this day has never been found. The Jacob Wetterling Act implemented the first nation wide sex offender register. Originally, the concept of a sex offender register was intended to for use solely by law enforcement; it was not an intention for the sex offender register to be public. However in 1996, Megan s Law was added to the Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act 1994 and made it a requirement for the information on sex offender registers to be accessible by the public. Megan s Law was enacted as a result of a heinous crime where 7 year old Megan Kanka was raped and murdered by her neighbour, who had two previous convictions for sexually assaulting young girls. In 2006, Congress passed the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act. This Act required states to enact stricter registration requirements, including an increase in the penalty for not registering and more frequent verification of sex offenders locations. Since 2006 public access to sex offender registers has been accessible on the Internet in most states. • 12. The Extermination Camp At Chelmno Concentration Camp During the Nazi Holocaust, multiple working and death camps were created to hold the captured Jews. While the Jews lived in this camp, they were tortured, mistreated, worked to death and eventually were put to death by either execution by firearm or were put into a death camp which exterminated the Jews using poison gas. The Nazi Party had developed many death camps in the central european area including the 6 death camps of Poland; Auschwitz, Treblinka, Belzec, Chelmno, Sobibor, and Majdanek. Little has been published on Chelmno due to its significance as the first extermination camp to become operational death camp. Chelmno concentration camp was established in November 1941 and was exclusively used for the executions of Soviet prisoners and Jews, most of whom were Polish. The extermination camp at Chelmno demands special attention, because during the German occupation only a very few people in Poland ever knew of its existence and the hundreds of thousands of its victims. Chelmno introduced the most deadly phase of the Holocaust. Its victims were from 36 communities in western Poland, along with 88 children from Czech town whose population was decimated as a collective reprisal for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in May of 1942. The facilities at Chelmno included three gas vans and two crematoria. Gassing at Chelmno began on December 8, 1941 just hours before Pearl Harbor was struck by Japanese planes. • 16. The Effect Of Birth Order On Personality For many years, there s been an ongoing debate as to whether birth order truly has an effect on the way we behave throughout our development. The article I ve selected argues against the notion that these two correlate. The sample can be found at PNAS.org, otherwise known as the Proceedings of the National Academy of the United States of America. Titled, Examining the Effects of Birth Order on Personality three authors collectively come to this agreement that there are no lasting effects from birth order in long term personality traits. The names of these authors are, Julia M. Roher, Boris Eglaff, and Stefan C. Schmukle. They explore previous research on the subject from various psychologists, and later decide to conduct their own research and draw conclusions thereafter. I found the article to be very straightforward in its approach. The subject matter was presented clearly within the opening sentences. Each point was elaborated thoroughly, and it was written in a way both professionals, and average readers could comprehend the language. The terms were relatively relatable, no advanced medical terminology was mentioned, and evidence was given for each argument presented in their research. Statistics and table charts played a significant role in demonstrating credibility of the findings. There were three distinct points made in contrast to birth order affecting personality. Age, sibship size, and family design. Age was a contributing factor in terms of long standing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Classroom Behavior Management For African American Students The number of students being diagnosed with or suspected of having an Emotional/Behavioral disability is rapidly increasing, especially for African American students and in students at younger ages. The U.S. Department of Education reports that an African American child is one and a half times more likely to be placed in a classroom for children with emotional disturbances than a White child (Children s Defense Fund, 2011). I have observed that many of these students are often disengaged during literacy instruction. As a result, these students present literacy inadequacies in addition to behavioral challenges. Incorporating culturally responsive pedagogy and interventions across all content areas increases a student s ability to comprehend texts. In addition to implementing research based academic instruction, cultural instructional modifications, adequate teacher preparation for teaching EBD students, engaging classroom behavior management for teachers of students with Emotional/Behavioral disability, contribute to the literacy growth of EBD students. An Emotional/Behavioral Disability is defined by: (1) the student exhibits social, emotional or behavioral functioning that so departs from generally accepted, age appropriate ethnic or cultural norms that it adversely affects a child s academic progress, social relationships, personal adjustment, classroom adjustment, self care or vocational skills; (2) the behaviors are severe, chronic, and frequent, occur at school and at ... Perspectives on the Book of Job Essay The Book of Job is one of the three books in the Hebrew bible whose genre is described as wisdom literature.1 Certainly the Book of Job satisfies the literary conventions that qualify a biblical book for such status. 2 Yet Job may be associated with wisdom in a much more literal sense. The Book of Job attempts to deal with a problematic question that confronts suffering humanity: why do bad things happen to good people? The variety and vehemence of commentators contemporary responses to this chapter of the Bible is testament to the continued relevance of the Book of Job s wisdom thousands of years after it was written. As always, God tests those human beings to whom he is close and whom he loves. 8 It is unclear whether Buber bases the preceding statement on his personal opinion or on the biblical text. Buber points out that Job s plaintive cries constitute a form of prayer, and in fact cement his relationship with God. Buber concludes that Job passed God s test, successfully bore witness to his God 9 and has the eternal mission of serving God. One comes away from Buber with the impression that both God s behavior and Job suffering are morally justified. In contrast to Buber s vindication of God s role and glorification of Job s suffering, C. G. Jung excoriates God for his crimes 10 in an excerpt from Answer to Job11. Setting an irreverent tone, Jung begins by stating that God s thunderings... completely miss the point 12 by failing to address Job s questions, demonstrating God s self absorption. Jung points out that God s self aggrandizing diatribe only makes sense if directed towards a doubting thought , which can only be Satan. Jung suggests that God has turned his verbal displeasure on Job rather than Satan in order to avoid facing the fact that he was duped by Satan into sanctioning the punishment of his most faithful follower. Job realizes that the self centered God speaking from the whirlwind has no interest in Job s rights, and thus Job has no choice but to retract his demand for justice 13 and submit to the divine omnipotence ... • 20. Dehumanization In The Pianist By Wladyslaw Szpilman The Pianist is a movie that shows the life of one man, Wladyslaw Szpilman who was a popular Jewish Pole radio station pianist. In the World War II which is a background of the movie, How Szpilman suffered and how he survived are presented in the movie. While the movie portrays Szpilman s life, it also shows how the Jewish people are dehumanized by Nazi during the war. The director, Roman Polanski, successfully uses camera angle, lighting and plot structure, and characterization to present the theme of dehumanization. One technique that is used by Polanski is camera angles. The use of camera angles has enabled the audience to see how unimportant the Polish Jews to the Nazis and therefore why they are dehumanised. For instance, they use a panning shot to show the line of the Jewish while waiting next to each other just before the Nazis shoot them down. This panning shot clearly shows the number of polish people who were standing on the line and how unimportant when they are just shot down with no interest in their individualities which are individual human beings. So this very clearly shows how the Nazis dehumanised the polish Jews. Another example of the camera angles used is seen in the scene that closes up the Jewish people s face who is waiting for the death with bullet loading sound. This close up shot clearly shows the fear, miseries, and dread that the Jewish people can feel just before the Nazis shoot and how they are deprived the happiness that they can feel as a human. Hence, this also effectively shows how the polish Jews are dehumanised emotionally by the nazis. The theme of dehumanization of Polish Jews is clearly conveyed, as the camera angles successfully show how unimportant the Jews were regarded and how they feel. Another technique that is used is changing light with reference to the plot structure. The use of lighting has allowed the audience to see the obvious contrast between the beginning when Szpilman was having a happy life, and after the Nazi came and occupied so that how Polish Jews are getting dehumanised. For instance, the light was extremely bright at the beginning of the film, Szpilman was playing the piano at the radio station and having a meal with the family. When the Nazi ... I go camping and hiking with my daughter whenever possible, so I truly appreciate the recognition of natures beauty and vitality. The artist used canvas with oil and the medium and its dimensions are 51 ½ x 76 in. Upon further inspection I realized that the painting shows juxtaposing with the tamed and cultured land on the right and the untainted and untouched nature, with brooding darkened clouds on the left. • 24. The Story Of Joseph As A History Lesson The story of Joseph is one of my favorite in the Bible. Not because it has a happy ending, but because it shows us some incredible attributes of God. As with most biblical study, it s important to not read the story of Joseph as a history lesson, but rather to focus in on what God is doing, what is motivating God, and how God responds to people. In this case, there are some profound theological concepts that can be recognized from just looking a little deeper into the scriptures, past the narrative of what s happening with Joseph. We get both a wonderful image of God s grace and of His beautiful design for how things work together for those who love Him. Further, we see God as constantly at work, more even in the grimy, messy times when it probably seems to Joseph that He is the furthest away. In many ways, the underlying theme through the story of Joseph s life directly addresses one of my biggest questions early in my walk in faith: If God is good, why does He let bad things happen? The story of Joseph starts well before he was born, and the setting of things that would happen to him later in life really began when his father Jacob met his mother. The Bible tells us that Jacob took to Rachel, Joseph s mother, immediately. In Genesis 29:10 11 (ESV), it says Now as soon as Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother s brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother s brother, Jacob came near and rolled the stone from the well s mouth and watered the flock of Laban his ... • 26. A Doll s House Gender Essay Throughout much of English literature, gender and sex have been carefully analyzed. Often, a literary character can be identified as either male or female simply based on the character s behavior or on the way they are described by the author. Gender is not the biological traits that society uses to assign a person into either female or male; this is called sex. Gender is the repeated socialization over time that leads men and women to fall into a false sense that they are acting naturally, rather than following a socially constructed role. In A Doll House , Henrik Ibsen appoints specific stereotypical gender roles to each of his characters to show how gender has been constructed by social expectations. He holds on to the belief that a man s role in marriage is to protect and guide his wife. Also, Torvald believes that all husbands have a right to their wives bodies. He asks Aren t I your husband ? (Isben 832) after Nora resists having sex with him. This demonstrates how male figures of the 19th century thought they had all the power, especially when behind closed doors. As Parker (2003) describes, in common Victorian society, the husband did not view their wives as equals but rather an amusement or possession . Torvald enjoys the idea that Nora needs instruction and is quite eager to show her how to dance the tarantella. Torvald is very overbearing and treats his wife Nora like a doll. The Helmer household acts as an enclosure to shelter the entire family from the cruelties of the outside world. Once we adopt a particular scheme for describing the world, there then come to be facts about the world. This thesis is a variation of the view that all facts are mind independent as only minds can describe the world; Boghossian partly agrees with this view as he does acknowledge that some facts are indeed mind dependent and he gives examples such as that there could be no fact such as money if we humans didn t construct that fact; however he believes that logic cant apply to all facts such as dinosaurs or electrons which don t rely on humans for their existence. Boghossian has trouble identifying a solid argument for absolute fact constructivism and this is worsened by the fact that he believes that there is a thesis which is similar to absolute fact constructivism to an extent but then again the very same thesis supports fact objectivism which goes against absolute fact constructivism and the result is it weakens the argument for absolute fact constructivism and makes it seem implausible than it actually is Boghossian calls this thesis Social Relativity of Descriptions. ... Volume of Hydrochloric Acid Used: An overall volume of 50ml of hydrochloric acid and water should be used for every trial. If a lesser volume is used, this will decrease the rate of reaction as there will be less particles in the HCl to collide with the Mg particles, which will lessen the chance for creating a successful collision, and thus lower the rate of the chemical reactions. Texas, what was the syllogism used by the majority that is the major premise, the minor premise, and the conclusion of the Court? The Supreme Court Justices agreed on the major premise that, Liberty presumes an autonomy of self that includes freedom of thought, belief, expression, and certain intimate conduct. The instant case involves liberty of the person both in its spatial and more transcendent dimensions. Liberty as defined by the court is taken or supposed to be true because it consists of the First Amendment rights of freedom of thought, belief, expression ,but the court also included certain intimate conduct as a liberty. The court is correct that certain intimate conduct is a liberty. Because of the courts major premise the court came to the minor premise that, It suffices for us to acknowledge that adults may choose to enter upon this relationship in the confines of their homes and their own private lives and still retain their dignity as free persons. The novel generally follows the history of a family of Chippewa Indians who live on and off a reservation. In a thoroughly humanist approach, Ms. Eldrige narrates each chapter in a different voice, and through extremely varied characters effectively shows the diversity of the Indians. This is an important aspect of the novel, as it demonstrates that there is no single stereotypical Indian . The book begins with two scenes from a modern perspective, showing a turbulent family with fairly disturbing problems. Maybe this image came in several varieties but all images of the Indian had one common point: Indians were another historical fact coupled with the romanticized images portrayed by the media. Our outlook on Native Americans as a society is one which attaches every individual American Indian with a cultural past which has absolutely nothing to do with the present day. Expecting an American Indian to retain cultural beliefs and societal practices reflective of his heritage is like expecting an urbanized American Swede to carry out a traditional 1500 s Swedish lifestyle in the 1990 s. It is this issue which Love Medicine adresses so skillfully. The Chippewa family in the story is very large. From the very beginning we see scenes of infidelity, drunken rampages, strained marriages, hate, and poverty. These scenes offer a look into the lifestyle of the modern Native American which is strikingly different from the comfortable images that we all harbor; images of a noble people living off the land, in harmony with nature. So much for the romantic view of the noble savage . This leaves the reader in the uncomfortable situation reconciling the two extremes images. The compromise is found in the stories of the book. • 44. Analysis Of Unwind Unwind Message Many people will go through experiences in their lives where they feel like they are changing. It is as if life has dealt them enough experiences that their personalities have been altered because of it. Unwind by Neal Shusterman shows how the past experiences people go through may dictate who they become and the decisions they may make in the future through the lives of Roland, Admiral Dunfee, and Lev. Throughout the novel, Roland is portrayed as an aggressive young man who has the desire to fight anyone who gets in his way. Yet as the readers soon discover, he is a young man with a very troubled past. Roland s past shapes who he becomes today in that he is very distrusting of women due to the experiences he has gone through. As Connor finds out in the basement of the antique shop, Roland s mother essentially abandoned him for her husband. As the novel states, That s not what did him in, though. Roland had beaten up his stepfather for beating his mom. The mother took her husband s side, and the stepfather got off with a warning. Roland, on the other hand, was sent to be unwound (Schusterman 99). After Roland s mother abandoned him for his stepfather, he began to fight other individuals in order to gain power. Another example of Roland s distrust for women comes at the very end of the novel when he is being unwound and he is recalling memories from his past. Roland recalls, When I was three, I had a babysitter. She was beautiful. She shook my sister. Real hard. My sister got wrong. Never got right again. Beautiful is dangerous. Better get them first (Schusterman 293). After this experience, Roland is likely to never trust women, or other beautiful people, again. For him to experience both his mother s abandonment and his sister s injuries at the hand of the babysitter, Roland chooses not to trust women again, resulting in his poor treatment of Risa, and the other females he comes in contact with. Admiral Dunfee, similarly, is affected by his past. When the novel first introduces the Admiral, he is portrayed as a cold hearted dictator in charge of hundreds of Unwinds, but there is a reason the Admiral comes off as distant. When the Unwinds first arrive at The Graveyard, they are expected to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Organizational Structures Have Impacted Organizational... Organizational structures have changed greatly in the last fifty years. Whereas most organizations were once rigid and centralized, most organizations are now taking advantage of flexible and decentralized structures. These new structures have affected the standard relationships between employees and managers. Additional layers of management have been created which blur the lines between the functions of managers and the functions of employees. Employees have become decision makers, and some managers barely have any authoritative power. Subsequently, these changes to organizational structures have impacted organizational strategies. This too, expounds upon the increased power of the employee and the reduced authority of the manager. The changes in organizational strategies make use of the dispersion of power in order to reduce costs and enable additional safeguards within these organizations. Pertaining to the neoteric avant garde in bureaucratic concatenations from parochial to insouciant, more unerringly decentralization and the divergence of paramountcy, nuclear transmogrifications have germinated which perturb the paradigmatic consanguinity betwixt suzerains and proletariats. For example, employees are now often given a budget with which they can use to rectify an issue that a customer may have. To illustrate, an up and coming grocery store called The Fresh Market grants each employee the power to provide free merchandise to any customer, up to a twenty five dollar ... Social And Natural Resource Issues For this week s forum, I hold the view of a normative pluralistic which relates the environmental and natural resource issue of irreversible changes caused by negative consequences for a healthy planet. Normative pluralism is considered not to be as radical as the belief of a fundamentalist pluralist. Formally, a normative pluralist assumes that there is a plurality of bearers of value (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, 2011). The irreversible changes caused by negative consequences for a healthy planet can be associated will the failure to widely produce agreements globally to tackle environmental and natural resource issues. In the article, Global Green Pluralism, pluralistic values discussed that support my argument are comprised of the division of labor amongst governments and nongovernmental actors to govern the environment. Some of the values that play a key role in the overall support the creation of an effective environmental and/or natural resource policy to preserve the environment consist of actors/governance components, agenda setting, networks, negotiation, compliance, implementation, and resilience. However, this changed in 1870 when diamond mines were found in Kimberly (South Africa) [ Have you ever tried to sell a diamond? Edward Jay Epstein; unknown]. This discovery was a huge danger to the few manufactures and suppliers of diamonds as with the large amounts, and therefore the increased supply, of diamonds, they would no longer be considered rare/scare [Ivona Vogelsang; 2005]; therefore their value and price would decrease as a result. This can be understood by using the diminishing marginal utility theory, the more people have of something (or the greater the quantity/supply) the less it is valued (the lower the utility) [Michael Parkin et al.; 2010]. The less it is valued, the less people are willing to pay (unless it is price inelastic) as a result decreasing the price of the product/service. De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd. identified this threat and 18 years after the discovery in Kimberly they became integrated into South Africa. In order to monopolize De Beers began to buy, from African nations, private mining rights, they also managed to control mine output in order to restrict the supply of diamonds.
