CERN operates the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and uses OpenStack to manage its large computing infrastructure. CERN aims to deploy OpenStack on 15,000 hypervisors hosting 100,000-300,000 VMs by 2015 to support fundamental physics research from the LHC experiments. OpenStack provides an open source alternative to CERN's traditional computing model and will help scale to meet growing data and computing needs.
