The Great Depression And Economic Depression Essay
Summary The Great Depression was an economic depreciation in Europe, North America and other
industrialized areas globally that commenced in 1929 and endured until about 1939. The
depression stirred severe effects in the U.S.A that left its economy on the brink of a downfall. The
research investigates the causes and reasons that influenced the great recession in the United States
of America. The causes comprise of the hazardous decline of the Stock Market in that occurred in
1929 which sent the Wall Street in a panic turmoil that wiped out the main investors. Similarly, the
declines of over 9000 banks influence the great depression. Purchasing powers of the population
decreased drastically as the citizens from all walks of life stopped purchasing items due to
economic fears and the fall of the stock market. The nation s financial strategy that increased trade
tariffs with Europe was also a significant impediment that triggered the great economic depression.
International debts were a major aspect as well since the World War drove most European nations
into dept with America. The paper also outlines the reasons that influenced the economic depression
to last long. The depression ended up riddled with stagnated effects that subjected the economy to a
slow recovery process. Economists acknowledge pathological factors to its long lasting tenure. The
fact that governments strategies did more harm than good to the economy riddled the progress
stagnant. The standard forces of

Essay On Coffee And Coffee
Coffee is something that people around the world drink daily. Coffee affects people s daily life,
many need it everyday to wake up. Coffee creates an addiction, something that can t be stopped
by any drink. Coffee is made differently around the world, some people drink coffee made in a
french press some drink it made in a regular coffeemaker. The tastes are very different when they
are made in each machine as well as the length of time it takes to make the coffee, the cost, and
the control you have over the taste. Coffee is smoother and bolder when made in the french press
and lighter and has a kind of harsh taste when made in a coffee maker. Another way coffee can be
made is with instant coffee, this has more of a water taste than a coffee taste.
When coffee is made in a coffee maker the coffee grinds don t sit in the water for a longer period
of time they run through them quickly so there must be more coffee grinds for the cup than in
the french press, when coffee is made in a french press the coffee grinds sit in the water and brew
for longer allowing the hot water to soak up all of the flavor possible. Yes the coffee maker is faster
but it does not make as smooth or bold coffee as the french press does. Coffee makers make coffee
well but they use up more grinds for bad quality coffee. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A coffee maker needs electricity, it costs more in the first place, coffee grinds, and water. A
french press needs the french press, coffee grinds, hot water. Coffee makers are very expensive
and then they require electricity to run which using electricity costs money. A french press costs
about $20 to $30, a coffee maker can range anywhere from $14 to $150 it is obvious that $14 is
less than $20 but a coffee maker that is that cheap is not going to make high quality coffee like a
french press that is just above that price

Theme Of Mariam In A Thousand Splendid Suns
In Khaled Hosseini s novel A Thousand Splendid Suns he presents the different aspects of
Mariams childhood through the interactions she has with the people in her life. Her interactions
with Nana show the effects if being raised a harami, with Jalil show her isolation and her naive
attitude, with Mullah Faizullah her piety and with Jalil s wives the reality of her poverty and
low social status. This collates to portray a miserable childhood, with religion (and Mullah
Faizullah) as her only source of comfort and happiness. Hosseini presents Mariam s childhood
as revolving around the fact she is an illegitimate child, her mother Nana was a housekeeper for a
rich, married bussiness man Jalil. In the first chapter Nana refers to Mariam as a harami a title
frequently brought up in the novel to show the massie impact t has on her life and that Mariam
can neve escape being a bastard. Although Mariam doesn t fully understand what it means in this
chapter, she realises that it was an ugly, loathsome thing to be a harami, like an insect . Hosseini
uses the similie like an insect to show how because of her illegitimacy Mariam is worthless and
an inconvinience to others. The adjectives ugly and loathsome emphasise Mariam s upsetting
childhood and her feelings of inadequecy and repulsiveness. In Afghan society generally having
children out of wedlock is seen as a disgrace and the illegitimate children are often considered as
lower class. Later in the novel Nana recalls how she was removed from Jalil s household and
how he built them the Kolba they live in, which Nana refers to as a rathole . Hosseini uses the
semantic field of animals rathole , insect and cockroach to convey to the reader how deprived
Mariam s childhood is as a result of her being a harami, she is viewed as vermin throughout her
childhood. This relationship with Nana, who resents Mariam culminates in Nana s suicide,
which marks the end of Mariam s childhood and naivety. After returning from sleeping outside
Jalil s home she witnesses The rope dropping fom a high branch. Nana dangling at the end of it .
The verb dangling could be being used by Hosseini as it creates a tone of carelessness possibly
reflecting the careless way Nana

Antibiotics And Antimicrobial Resistance
In this paper, I address some major ethical issues associated with the ineffective use of Antibiotics
which contributes to Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), as Antimicrobial resistance is a direct
consequence of not considering several bioethical factors associated with proper use of antibiotics
since its advent. The Antimicrobial resistance is a result of ceaseless selection pressure over
bacterial population during several generations from human application of antibiotics through
overuse, underuse and misuse. In the first section, I have discussed why AMR currently has
become one of the major public health concerns and the impacts of the AMR on global public
health should not merely be viewed as a technical or medical problem but as a distinct

Carolingian Dynasty Propaganda Essay
Introduction
In both the past and present, numerous scholars and historians have considered the Carolingian
dynasty to be one of the greatest Frankish noble families to have ruled Europe during the Medieval
Period. The present thesis, which is structured in [x] parts, aims to verify that the Carolingians used
many forms of propaganda to assume and strengthen their claims to power of the Frankish throne
and the Holy Roman Empire. The forms of propaganda used by the Carolingian dynasty include:
divine right of kings, use of the written word, and religious iconography in the visual arts. Attention
will be given to illuminated manuscripts, Frankish annals, and iconography used during the
Carolingian Renaissance. It will be argued that the examples listed above were products of the
Carolingian propaganda campaign set forth by Charlemagne (747 814 AD) and his son Louis the
Pious (778 840 AD). Furthermore, it will be suggested that the aforementioned examples were used
to usurp the powers of the Merovingian dynasty and maintain ... Show more content on

Syrian Refugee Book Report
There are times when someone does something important to help the person that is suffering.
One example is from the book Night; this is when Elie s dad was about to be thrown out of the
train when Elie said Father! Father! Wake up. They re going to throw you outside . . . (Wiesel
99). The example explains that Elie stood up and quickly woke up his dad before his was about
to be thrown out of the window. Even though Elie slapped his dad but if he didn t then his dad
would be thrown out of the window. Another example is from the Darfur Genocide, since the

Regulations And Standards Of The Sarbanes Oxley Act
Applicable Regulations and Standards
Financial Institutions like Bank Solutions Inc. are required to meet the standards regulated by the
government to avoid mismanagement of sensitive information. These regulations are solely
purposed to mandate financial institutions to protect confidentiality, availability and integrity of
individuals, information systems and processes. Some of the applicable regulations and standards
are elaborated below:
1.The Sarbanes Oxley Act
The Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 is legislation passed by the U.S. Congress to protect
shareholders and the general public from accounting errors and fraudulent practices in the
enterprise, as well as improve the accuracy of corporate disclosures (Rouse, n.d.). This act was
implemented by the government to avoid financial disgraces which occurred due to lack of
proper storage of business records including electronic records and electronic messages. This act
requires financial institutions to store audit trail of log files and other financial documentation
either paper or electronic versions for five years. It is very important the IT department of any
organization to securely store data for audit purpose to avoid huge penalties and even
imprisonment. Backup is also an important aspect as this act requires financial institution to have
data available for past five years.

city. The roller rink would be a successful business move because the city is in great need of
more entertainment. As frequent visitors of La Habra, the city lacks recreation areas to enjoy
with friends and family. With only a couple locations to choose from in La Habra, it is always

A Historical Day For The American Nation
November 5th 2008 was a historical day for the American nation. On this day President Barack
Obama gave his victory speech. In the speech Obama addressed multiple things that he wants to
accomplish. He uses many ways to connect with the audience and gives them hope to change
America. He remains humble and shows character by giving all the credit to the people. He uses
a lot of ethos, pathos and logos to persuade the audience that he will do good and honest work in
the office. Ethos is the author s credibility, character, honesty and accomplishment. The author
attempts to appear honest and knowledgeable. An example of ethos can be found when he refers
to himself at the unlikeliest candidate, I was never the unlikeliest candidate for this office.
Being the unlikeliest candidate and winning the elections shows that Obama is hardworking and
will not give up. On top of that he does not brag about winning but give all the credit to the
people. These are good qualities that people want the president to have and this shows that he
going to work hard in the office. Another example can be found when he is talking about how his
campaign started and the support he was getting at the start of the campaign. He says, It began in
the backyards of Des Moines and the living rooms of Concord and the front porches of Charleston.
This shows how his journey to the white house began and how hard he had to work to get there.
Unlike many other candidates who got large funds from private

Museum of Art of Romania. The reason being, I would love to walk the halls of the museum
taking in all the beauty of the various paintings, sculptures, and relics of the past. During my
visit, I would like to witness in person the beauty of the Cranach Venus and Cupid painted by
Lucas Cranach the Elder. In the Cranach Venus and Cupid the painter used Line and Space for
Elements of Art and Proportion and Unity for the Principles of Design. As for the Composition, it
was an informal balance with the use of contrapposto which is an asymmetrical arrangement of the
human figure. As you see within the painting of Venus the lines for her arms contrast brilliantly
with hips and legs. I strongly believe this composition takes hold for the vast shape of her body
and emphasis on her as the protagonist of the oil painting. The use of the line helps bring a realistic
view of Venus

The Dominican Republic, and its owner, Rafael Leonidas...
The Dominican Republic, and its owner, Rafael Leonidas Trujillo
All throughout the 20th century we can observe the marked presence of totalitarian regimes and
governments in Latin America. Countries like Cuba, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Nicaragua and the
Dominican Republic all suffered under the merciless rule of dictators and military leaders. Yet the
latter country, the Dominican Republic, experienced a unique variation of these popular
dictatorships, one that in the eyes of the world of those times was great, but in the eyes of the
Dominicans, was nothing short of deadly.
Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, or El Chivo , controlled the people of the Dominican Republic in a

The United States occupied the Dominican Republic in 1916, and when they vacated the
country, they named Rafael Leonidas Trujillo second chief of a military branch. (Bosch, 173)
The weakened ruling party allowed Trujillo to ascend through the ranks and gain popularity
from 1924 to 1930, when he was elected President. Promises and ideas of economic stability
filled the eyes and ears of the Dominican people, and allowed El Chivo to come into power. The
Great Depression and World War II also allowed Trujillo to do as he pleased; due to the fact that
the great powers had to shift their focus elsewhere.
Slowly but surely Rafael Trujillo started making the Dominican Republic his own little piggybank.
As he saw that the country had been stripped of many industries, he started to buy back everything
that was in foreign control. (Sagas, 172) If he could not buy the business or gain control of the
economic sector through lawful competition, he would gain control unlawfully. These other means
often consisted of giving unfair interest rates to the businesses he competed against, using the banks
that he owned. Ultimately, if he didn t own the leading business, through his banks, he slowly ate
away his competitors.
The main target in his quest to regain economic control of the Republic was buying back the sugar
cane plantations and sugar factories, almost all of which were owned and run by the

Susan Bordo Never Just Pictures Summary
In the article Never Just Pictures, the author, Susan Bordo, addresses the cultural reasons behind
the rise in eating disorders. She asserts that modern media and advertising campaigns have played
an integral role in this increase. Though unfortunate, the media s focus is not on the well being of
its viewers, but on the level of cash flow they provide. The advertisingmoguls use their agencies as
double edged swords; they will make ads for McDonalds, then go in the next room and conduct a
photo shoot with a six foot two, eighty pound woman. The world of advertising needs to realize
their work is being seen by millions of people and is affecting some of those people in extremely
negative ways. The author of this article begins her analysis of the rise in eating disorders by
acknowledging America s obsession with being the ideal weight. From an extremely young age,
American children are being taught that women in movies and on the covers of magazines
possess the ideal figure. The author states Children are being taught...being fat is the worst thing
one can be (Bordo 1). This is disturbing to say the least. There many attributes worse than being
overweight: dishonest, cruel, and murderous to name a few. Bordo also uses an example in the
first paragraph of her essay that is appalling. Alicia Silverstone, the lead role in Clueless, was
completely bombarded with insults about her weight, though she had only gained a few pounds
since her starring role. The advertisers did

The Epidemic Of Ebola Virus Ebola
The virus Ebola, or formally known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever, is something most, if not all,
Americans have heard of in these past few months since it has taken American media by storm.
Ebola is a severe, often fatal illness, with an astonishingly high case fatality rate. It is considered
one of the world s most virulent diseases and is transmitted by direct contact with the blood, body
fluids and tissues of infected animals or people ( EbolaVirus Disease ). This, however, is not the
only aspect of Ebola that should be considered. Even though it is often difficult to accept that
humanity has an innate stereotypical attitude and a dormant racism that surfaces in times of
distress (like the Ebola outbreak), it is crucial to recognize that the virus Ebola has not only the
power to evoke physiological harm, but also political and social harm. It is slowly worsening an
already fragile Western society, weakened from previous years of blatant racism and constant fear.
Therefore, the naive American public should care to examine the virus Ebola from a sociological
viewpoint, in addition to a medical one. Western culture has peculiar views on global disease in the
twenty first century, especially since geographical location largely contributes to a global public
health inequality. Consequently, the American media s portrayal of people of color, specifically
Thomas Duncan and President Barack Obama, contributes to and sheds light on the healthcare
disparity in the United States.

Discontinuous Species Criticisms
Nature is very much discontinuous, but natural selection acts in a continuous manner, so the hard
part is finding out how nature is filled with these discrete and discontinuous groups called species.
The common criticism is that the inability to observe the formation of the new species means
natural selection is causing it, and the speciesnever actually form, but as Coyne says, ...it s like
saying that because we haven t seen a single star go through its complete life cycle, stars don t
evolve, or because we haven t see a new language arise, languages don t evolve (183). Just
because we aren t seeing the new species form right away, it doesn t mean it isn t happening. As
stated before, it can take a lot time for a new species to form. The three step process for speciation

Some pre zygotic isolating mechanisms include: temporal, ecological, behavioral, and mechanical.
Temporal isolating mechanisms include the time at which species mate during the year can affect
the possibility of two species mating together. Ecological isolating mechanisms include the habitat

species and how they are able to find mate. An example includes male birds having specific songs
they sing to find females. Mechanical isolating mechanisms include the way in which a species
will mate, including the genitalia. Post zygotic isolating mechanisms include: hybrid inviability,
hybrid infertility, and hybrid breakdown. Hybrid inviability happens when the hybrid is produced

What Is Multiculturalism In The Blind Side
We know that many movies bring up the issue of multiculturalism, especially between black and
white, such as The Blind Side. In the movie, the filmmaker seems to make a gap between black
and white by putting them in different areas. It seems that the suburban area belongs to black
society, while the midtown is white s. In this movie, black peopleare pictured to look like criminals,
and their lifes are messed up. Meanwhile, white peopleseem to have the perfect life; rich,
expensive cars, big houses, great schools, and so on. The feeling of being insecure grows among
these white people. To illustrate, Leigh Anne s friends tells her to be careful for keeping Michael in
the house. They picture Michael as a random black man who will rape Collins, Leigh Anne s
daughter. This argument shows that although white people seem to... Show more content on

The idea of putting this scene in the beginning is to explain what the blind side means, as what
the title means. In football, quarterback is the one who leads the game by defining the things
that he sees only. Yet, somehow the quarterback does not know what may happen behind him.
Therefore, there is a left tackle whose job is to protect the quarterback from his blind side. In
other words, the blind side is the spot that cannot be seen by one. In this scene, there are only a
few things that can be discussed regarding to the stage setting, because it shows the usual sport

The Main Theme Of Steve Bruce s God Is Dead
The main theme of Steve Bruce s God is Dead is about secularisation. In this book he argues that
secularisation is not a single notion and goes on to explore the many factors he believes has
contributed to secularisation. Bruce takes a sociological point of view as he draws on tradition
starting from Durkheim and Weber to more recent sociologist such as Martin and Niebuhr. Bruce
states that the aim of the first chapter is to clear the way for sensible debate about secularisation
(2002: p.1) and to lay out what modern sociologists actually mean by secularisation. Within this
book Bruce uses a range of literature from other sociologists regarding the secularisation debate in
order to present and argue that secularisation is occurring. Bruce does acknowledge that there are
many interpretations of what secularisation is and does say that there is no one secularisation
theory (2002: p.2). But rather, there are groups of similar explanations that adhere to each other
quite well. According to Bruce trying to define secularisation before offering explanations of it is
harder as scholars tend to combine their definitions. However he does use other sociologists
definitions of secularisation, he uses Berger and Luckmann s definition that shows the decline of
religious social power, as they define it as, the progressive autonomization of societal sectors from
the domination of religious meaning and institutions . The second definition of secularisation that
Bruce gives is Wilson s

Happiness Cannot Be Taken Away
Joseph sits in his alleyway as the parade goes by. He slumps back as the entire city celebrates an
opportunity that won t affect him. The city was celebrating a day that came once every hundred

Joseph decided he might as well experience the festivities that take place at the drawing since it

Hiroshima Death Match Themes
Hiroshima Death Match (Kinji Fukasaku, 1973)
The five films in the Battles without Honor and Humanity series are Kenji Fuakasaku s magnum
opus, of which Hiroshima Death Match is the most cult, particularly due to the participation of
Sonny Chiba and Meiko Kaji.
The film takes place both during the first film s story and shortly after it, and it focuses, apart from
Hirono s story, on two new characters that eventually become adversaries. The first one is
Yamanaka, a failed individual with a constant death wish and the other a local thug named
Katsutoshi, a character that borders on insanity. Meiko Kaji plays Yasuko, who becomes the love
interest of Yamanaka.
The film is the most bloody and violent of the series, a fact that is largely due to Sonny Chiba s
performance as Katsutoshi, who portrays a dangerous clown who uses his gun as if it was a fist,
rarely finding the target. Furthermore, the depiction of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

meeting with a foreign spy complicate her situation even more.
Reiko Ike, who plays Ocho, in one of her best roles, became a notorious persona in the Japanese
film industry of the 70 s with this film, particularly due to a scene where she fights naked in the
snow slaughtering samurai and ending up covered in the blood of her victims. She was
considered an equal of Meiko Kaiji in the category, up to the point when she was arrested for drugs

Summary Of What Does China Think
In the beginning of a book, What Does China Think? by Mark Leonard, introduces the China s rise
as an exceptional and remarkable event in the history that is even considered to be more significant
than 9/11 terrorism or Iraq War. Afterward, the author mentions how China affected the world
within the economical perspective; for example, half of the entire world product is labeled Made in
China. Besides focusing on the scale, the author brings us into deeper inquiry about China s rise:
How China s rise will affect the world? Will China keep rising?
The author s analytic opinion begins with a story when he visited the Chinese Academy of Social
Science in Beijing. His purpose was originally merely visiting and exploring the academy; however,

The story was about the elders who argued that their horses were better than the zebras, but they
found out that zebras were actually better so that they accepted to embrace. However, the
problem was changing the villagers who were accustomed with the horses. Therefore, the elders
painted black stripes on a few horses. As the time passed, the villagers gradually became used to
the zebras. Zhang Weiying used this kind of approach in pricing. One is sold at controlled price
while others are sold at market price. Eventually, the price will be sold at market price. The
Chinese reformer also can use this appoarch; gradual change would work better than the sudden
change.

It provided for an interest free loan to assist eligible households to meet the down payment on a
small to medium sized domestic flat in the private sector (La Grange, 1997, p. 75 76). Sale of
Flats to Sitting Tenants Scheme (SFSTS) was introduced in 1991. The proposal states that
about five year old flats were to be considered for sale to overcome the two major barriers to
home ownership: the high price of private sector dwellings and the limited stock of HOS/PSPS
flats relative to demand (La Grange, 1997, p. 77). Tenants Purchase Scheme (TPS) was another
scheme announced in December 1997, offering tenants an opportunity to buy their units at deeply
discounted prices, reduced public housing tenants bids for private homes. However, this adversely
affected home transactions. Moreover, the Housing Department started to contract out estate
maintenance management services to Property Management Agents in private sector from 1987.
All these schemes have successfully encouraged private sectors to participate in housing except
SFSTS which was proved to be a failure under such a harsh requirement and merely 3000 4000 five
year old flats were sold under the scheme in first year operation (La Grange, 1998, p. 512).

Similarities And Differences Between Fortinbras And Laertes
It is very interesting how Fortinbras, Laertes and Hamlet have in common, but the outcomes of
their individual lives are so different. First, it is true that Fortinbras and Laertes serve as foils in
Hamlet. A foil is a character that is quite different from another character bringing out noticeable
difference, bringing to light those specific differences in the other character. Fortinbras and Laertes
suffer the same loss as Hamlet, which is the murder of their individual fathers. Each of these men
handles it in very different ways with reference to. Hamlet is not decisive in avenging his father s
death, whereas Fortinbras and Laertes are and make a decisive choice to act.

Diagnosis of lupus is complex. From the appearance of the first symptoms to an adequate
diagnosis, on average it takes six years.
Women are 10 times more likely to develop lupus than men. African American women aged 45 to

autoimmune diseases; in general, has helped improve prognosis. Faster and more precise diagnosis,
leading to earlier treatment in suppressing the progression of the disease is allowing more patients
to live a normal life span. Also, the 2011 FDA approval of the biologic drug called Belimumab has
contributed to the improvement of prognosis. More research directed towards the understanding

adequate and timely diagnosis. Due to the tight commonality among autoimmune diseases, a
thorough understanding of the immune system is required to develop more effective treatments

Gymnopedie No 1 Analysis
When you listen to Erik Satie s Gymnopedie No. 1 you are struck with a sullen, dreamy chord
progression striking the root on the one of the measure and the 3rd, 5th, and 7th of the chord on the
2nd and 3nd of the measure with its waltz like Вѕ timing. You hear this song and it almost
immediately hits you with a feeling of sadness but there is a sort of beauty to it. But why? Why
is it that this song makes you feel sad? Many people who are untrained in music will have a
simple explanation such as it s because it s slow or because it s in a minor key . While yes it is
at a slow 78 bpm but anybody with a trained ear can tell that it s in the key of D Major. So there
must be more to it than just its tempo or what key it s in. As you move further along in this
endeavour of understanding music you learn that instead of it being just one or two things that
make a song happy or sad it s a combination of many different attributes. Such as key signature,
tempo, meter, chord extensions, intervals, and etc.Music in it many forms makes us all feel
different emotions. Music can evoke so many different types of emotions some will make you
want to dance and some will make you want to cry. Some will make you remember the best times
of your life and some will remind you of the worst. To understand the invisible connection that so
many of us feel towards music one must first understand at least the basics of music theory. How is

Failure Of Failure After Failure
As my first semester of college is coming to an end, I would like to reflect on my experience here
within the Honors 120 and 121 class on Failure and the Question Wheel. I chose this class on
failure because I have always held myself to such high standards that I hoped to be able to find a
way to accept failure in some instances. Within our first week in class, we made claims about
failure. My favorite claim was that every failure is in some way a success. Although this claim was
not very debatable and incredibly generic, I was able to really let my mind explore what it was
trying to say. Throughout the semester I experienced failure after failure, but that allowed me to
see that success can still be achieved within failures. One major failure I experienced throughout
the entire semester was my failure to speak up in class. In the beginning of the school year I
failed to speak up mainly because I was shy and being around all new people whom I did not know
made me feel very anxious. I thought that my anxietyabout this class would lessen over time as I
got to know my fellow classmates. However, as time went on I realized that while a majority of
my classmates share these anxious feelings with me, the other students that had been speaking up
are very strong willed and can be judgmental at times. I then realized that I was scared to speak
up in class because I feared that my ideas were not deep enough or that the normal speakers would
think I was stupid. I feared

The Jesus Movement Occurred Within The Intertestamental Era
The Jesus Movement occurred within the intertestamental era. The movement had one foot in the
past on the other in the future as this period emerged. Before Christianity stepped out on its own,
it was considered to be a sect of Judaism. Hellenism acted as a veneer over the everyday life of
Jews, but beneath that veneer, the Jewish worldview dominated the Gospel, not pagan Hellenism
(Eddy, 2014). The claim that the Trinity is a Hellenistic pagan corruption of the early church was
denied by recent research. Early Christianitywas rooted in Jewish theological thought and like
Judaism, the new faith guarded its identity (Eddy, 2014).
One of the best kept secrets in the Christian church is the large role that women played in the early
church. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christian and secular writers credited women with the growth of the church (Krueger and Kroger,
2012).
There is nothing inherent in the character of Christian ministry as it is presented in the writings of
the New Testament which would give reason for the exclusion of women. On the contrary, the New
Testament portrays Jesus treating women as equal human beings. It also portrays women and men
serving side by side in the various ministries of the early church . . . According to the evidence, the
exclusion of women from ecclesiastical ministry is neither in accord with the teaching or practice
of Jesus with that of the first century church (Bacchiocchi, 1987).
Contrary to Rabbi ben Azariah s remark that Rather should the words of the Torah be burned
than entrusted to a woman . . . Whoever teaches his daughter the Torah is like one who teaches
her obscenities, the Holy Spirit was poured out on all the disciples, men and women alike, on the
Day of Pentecost (Bacchiocchi, 1987). Peter quoted Joel to solidify that Your sons and your
daughters shall prophesy. . . and on my menservants and my maidservants in those days I will pour
out my Spirit (Acts 2:17 18). Maidservants meant that women had received the gift of the Holy
Spirit (Bacchiocchi, 1987).
Jesus was revolutionary in that he treated women and men as equals and violated many Old
Testament regulations and traditions that indicated gender inequality. Robinson (2012) stated many
examples of how Jesus treated women

How Did Cage Influence Theater Artist
Influence on Theater Artist and Practitioners.
Whether Cage directly influenced artists, it is difficult to put into context. Hence, one can argue
that Cage as stated in the introduction paragraph, made an impact on modern music through his
incorporation of avant garde instrumentation and the idea of ecological music was dictated by
chance. However, Cage had examined the use of avant garde music in experimental cinema. He
used chance, avant garde instrumentation, electro acoustics, ambient sound, and silence in his film
scores. In addition, Cage had collaborated with theater artist/practitioners such as Maya Deren,
Sidney Peterson, and Herbert Matter, who were central figures in American avant garde filmmaking
as well as experimental design. One can argue that indeed, Cage dealt with experimentation, and
innovation, chance operations, which is what avant garde, is essentially about. Therefore, this is the
major reason critics laud him, as one of the leading figures of the post war avant garde movement. It
is worth mentioning, that other experimental, artist and practitioners inspired some of his works.

artists such as Cunningham, Jones, performed their pieces in a theatrical space. Therefore, the
evidence now points to that, it is possible for Cage to have had an influence on avant garde theater

Descartes Skeptical Argument and Reponses by Bouwsma and Malcolm
In this essay, I will examine Rene Descartes skeptical argument and responses by O.K. Bouwsma
and Norman Malcolm. I intend to prove that while both
Bouwsma and Malcolm make points that refute specific parts of Descartes argument in their
criticisms, neither is sufficient in itself to refute the whole. In order to understand Descartes
argument and its sometimes radical ideas, one must have at least a general idea of his motives in
undertaking the argument.
The seventeenth century was a time of great scientific progress, and the blossoming scientific
community was concerned with setting up a consistent standard to define what constituted science.
Their science was based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More significantly, Descartes implies that all consciousness could actually be a dream state, thus
proving that the senses can be doubted. The dream argument has its intrinsic problems, however.
One, is that images in dreams can be described as quot;painted images quot;.2
In other words, a dream image is only a portrait of a real life object, place or person. If we are
dreaming then it is implied that at some point we were conscious and able to perceive these
things. If we are able to perceive these things then we must admit that we have senses and that our
senses are, at least in part, true. This was exactly what Descartes was trying to disprove, and it was
one reason he abandoned the dream argument.
The second problem with this argument is that it points to mathematics as a point of certainty. I
believe Descartes best explained this in his own words:
quot;[W]hether I be awake or asleep, two plus three equals five and a square does not have more
than four sides: nor does it seem possible that such obvious truths can fall under the suspicions of
falsity. quot;3 Even when we are dreaming, the laws of mathematics and geometry hold true, but
they can not be Descartes point of certainty for a simple reason; these abilities that Descartes
believed were innate still had to come from somewhere. If they are in our heads when we are born,
someone had to put them there. Descartes question is who, and he comes up with

The Transformation Of Macbeth s Character
As Innocent flower, (Shakespeare 25) Macbeth begins to change drastically, developing a
completely new identity, his transformation is quite obvious as he goes from innocent to the
serpent under [the flower] (Shakespeare 25). Macbeth has no morality to govern his actions
furthermore. The soldier is caught going against his moral beliefs as he represses all emotions that
are caused by his actions in killing; consequently, the guilt that is accumulated inside of him begins
to take over, caused by the initial push which began his redevelopment. Simply stated, Macbeths
obsession in gaining power acted as a push causing his psychological state to spiral downhill.

Lady Macbeth hears of Macbeth questioning his fate, she steps in pushing his new morals
onwards, enforcing the idea that killing Duncan is fine as they will pin the murder on the king s
guards. The thought of not having courage is lodged into Macbeth s head as he becomes aware

The Outsiders Analysis
While most teens do not accomplish much by the end of their high school journey, Susan Eloise

in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Hinton had always been one for reading. Although, as an article from

described many of the popular books for her age. She wrote numerous stories throughout her
writing career, such as The Outsiders, That Was Then, This Is Now, and Rumble Fish, among
others. Many of these novels were later created into film to further spread the phenomenal works of
Hinton. Her story of a gangrivalry quickly became a success. Krischer from the New York Times,
states that since the novel had first been published, over fifteen million copies have been sold. The
Outsiders follows the perspective of a young teen, Ponyboy (Pony) Curtis, as he tells his story of
brotherly love within the gang, as well as recognizing the similarities between the rival gangswithin
the town. Hinton portrays these strong themes through her beautiful characterdevelopment and
intriguing plot that resulted in a timeless classic, The Outsiders. One of the defining features of
Hinton s novel has been her themes presented in the

trade of material and evidences of cyber violations between law implementation organizations.

tried just by the courts which have the jurisdiction over the matter and where the crime has been

  • 3. Essay On Coffee And Coffee Coffee is something that people around the world drink daily. Coffee affects people s daily life, many need it everyday to wake up. Coffee creates an addiction, something that can t be stopped by any drink. Coffee is made differently around the world, some people drink coffee made in a french press some drink it made in a regular coffeemaker. The tastes are very different when they are made in each machine as well as the length of time it takes to make the coffee, the cost, and the control you have over the taste. Coffee is smoother and bolder when made in the french press and lighter and has a kind of harsh taste when made in a coffee maker. Another way coffee can be made is with instant coffee, this has more of a water taste than a coffee taste. When coffee is made in a coffee maker the coffee grinds don t sit in the water for a longer period of time they run through them quickly so there must be more coffee grinds for the cup than in the french press, when coffee is made in a french press the coffee grinds sit in the water and brew for longer allowing the hot water to soak up all of the flavor possible. Yes the coffee maker is faster but it does not make as smooth or bold coffee as the french press does. Coffee makers make coffee well but they use up more grinds for bad quality coffee. ... • 4. Theme Of Mariam In A Thousand Splendid Suns In Khaled Hosseini s novel A Thousand Splendid Suns he presents the different aspects of Mariams childhood through the interactions she has with the people in her life. Her interactions with Nana show the effects if being raised a harami, with Jalil show her isolation and her naive attitude, with Mullah Faizullah her piety and with Jalil s wives the reality of her poverty and low social status. This collates to portray a miserable childhood, with religion (and Mullah Faizullah) as her only source of comfort and happiness. Hosseini presents Mariam s childhood as revolving around the fact she is an illegitimate child, her mother Nana was a housekeeper for a rich, married bussiness man Jalil. In the first chapter Nana refers to Mariam as a harami a title frequently brought up in the novel to show the massie impact t has on her life and that Mariam can neve escape being a bastard. Although Mariam doesn t fully understand what it means in this chapter, she realises that it was an ugly, loathsome thing to be a harami, like an insect . Hosseini uses the similie like an insect to show how because of her illegitimacy Mariam is worthless and an inconvinience to others. The adjectives ugly and loathsome emphasise Mariam s upsetting childhood and her feelings of inadequecy and repulsiveness. In Afghan society generally having children out of wedlock is seen as a disgrace and the illegitimate children are often considered as lower class. Later in the novel Nana recalls how she was removed from Jalil s household and how he built them the Kolba they live in, which Nana refers to as a rathole . Hosseini uses the semantic field of animals rathole , insect and cockroach to convey to the reader how deprived Mariam s childhood is as a result of her being a harami, she is viewed as vermin throughout her childhood. This relationship with Nana, who resents Mariam culminates in Nana s suicide, which marks the end of Mariam s childhood and naivety. After returning from sleeping outside Jalil s home she witnesses The rope dropping fom a high branch. Nana dangling at the end of it . Antibiotics And Antimicrobial Resistance In this paper, I address some major ethical issues associated with the ineffective use of Antibiotics which contributes to Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), as Antimicrobial resistance is a direct consequence of not considering several bioethical factors associated with proper use of antibiotics since its advent. The Antimicrobial resistance is a result of ceaseless selection pressure over bacterial population during several generations from human application of antibiotics through overuse, underuse and misuse. In the first section, I have discussed why AMR currently has become one of the major public health concerns and the impacts of the AMR on global public health should not merely be viewed as a technical or medical problem but as a distinct ... Carolingian Dynasty Propaganda Essay Introduction In both the past and present, numerous scholars and historians have considered the Carolingian dynasty to be one of the greatest Frankish noble families to have ruled Europe during the Medieval Period. The present thesis, which is structured in [x] parts, aims to verify that the Carolingians used many forms of propaganda to assume and strengthen their claims to power of the Frankish throne and the Holy Roman Empire. The forms of propaganda used by the Carolingian dynasty include: divine right of kings, use of the written word, and religious iconography in the visual arts. Attention will be given to illuminated manuscripts, Frankish annals, and iconography used during the Carolingian Renaissance. It will be argued that the examples listed above were products of the Carolingian propaganda campaign set forth by Charlemagne (747 814 AD) and his son Louis the Pious (778 840 AD). Ethos is the author s credibility, character, honesty and accomplishment. The author attempts to appear honest and knowledgeable. An example of ethos can be found when he refers to himself at the unlikeliest candidate, I was never the unlikeliest candidate for this office. Being the unlikeliest candidate and winning the elections shows that Obama is hardworking and will not give up. On top of that he does not brag about winning but give all the credit to the people. Yet the latter country, the Dominican Republic, experienced a unique variation of these popular dictatorships, one that in the eyes of the world of those times was great, but in the eyes of the Dominicans, was nothing short of deadly. The United States occupied the Dominican Republic in 1916, and when they vacated the country, they named Rafael Leonidas Trujillo second chief of a military branch. Promises and ideas of economic stability filled the eyes and ears of the Dominican people, and allowed El Chivo to come into power. The Great Depression and World War II also allowed Trujillo to do as he pleased; due to the fact that the great powers had to shift their focus elsewhere. Slowly but surely Rafael Trujillo started making the Dominican Republic his own little piggybank. As he saw that the country had been stripped of many industries, he started to buy back everything that was in foreign control. • 15. Susan Bordo Never Just Pictures Summary In the article Never Just Pictures, the author, Susan Bordo, addresses the cultural reasons behind the rise in eating disorders. She asserts that modern media and advertising campaigns have played an integral role in this increase. Though unfortunate, the media s focus is not on the well being of its viewers, but on the level of cash flow they provide. The advertisingmoguls use their agencies as double edged swords; they will make ads for McDonalds, then go in the next room and conduct a photo shoot with a six foot two, eighty pound woman. The world of advertising needs to realize their work is being seen by millions of people and is affecting some of those people in extremely negative ways. The author of this article begins her analysis of the rise in eating disorders by acknowledging America s obsession with being the ideal weight. From an extremely young age, American children are being taught that women in movies and on the covers of magazines possess the ideal figure. The author states Children are being taught...being fat is the worst thing one can be (Bordo 1). This is disturbing to say the least. • 16. The Epidemic Of Ebola Virus Ebola The virus Ebola, or formally known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever, is something most, if not all, Americans have heard of in these past few months since it has taken American media by storm. Ebola is a severe, often fatal illness, with an astonishingly high case fatality rate. It is considered one of the world s most virulent diseases and is transmitted by direct contact with the blood, body fluids and tissues of infected animals or people ( EbolaVirus Disease ). This, however, is not the only aspect of Ebola that should be considered. Even though it is often difficult to accept that humanity has an innate stereotypical attitude and a dormant racism that surfaces in times of distress (like the Ebola outbreak), it is crucial to recognize that the virus Ebola has not only the power to evoke physiological harm, but also political and social harm. It is slowly worsening an already fragile Western society, weakened from previous years of blatant racism and constant fear. Therefore, the naive American public should care to examine the virus Ebola from a sociological viewpoint, in addition to a medical one. Western culture has peculiar views on global disease in the twenty first century, especially since geographical location largely contributes to a global public health inequality. Consequently, the American media s portrayal of people of color, specifically Thomas Duncan and President Barack Obama, contributes to and sheds light on the healthcare disparity in the United States. ... In this book he argues that secularisation is not a single notion and goes on to explore the many factors he believes has contributed to secularisation. Bruce takes a sociological point of view as he draws on tradition starting from Durkheim and Weber to more recent sociologist such as Martin and Niebuhr. Bruce states that the aim of the first chapter is to clear the way for sensible debate about secularisation (2002: p.1) and to lay out what modern sociologists actually mean by secularisation. Within this book Bruce uses a range of literature from other sociologists regarding the secularisation debate in order to present and argue that secularisation is occurring. Bruce does acknowledge that there are many interpretations of what secularisation is and does say that there is no one secularisation theory (2002: p.2). But rather, there are groups of similar explanations that adhere to each other quite well. According to Bruce trying to define secularisation before offering explanations of it is harder as scholars tend to combine their definitions. However he does use other sociologists definitions of secularisation, he uses Berger and Luckmann s definition that shows the decline of religious social power, as they define it as, the progressive autonomization of societal sectors from the domination of religious meaning and institutions . Summary Of What Does China Think In the beginning of a book, What Does China Think? by Mark Leonard, introduces the China s rise as an exceptional and remarkable event in the history that is even considered to be more significant than 9/11 terrorism or Iraq War. Afterward, the author mentions how China affected the world within the economical perspective; for example, half of the entire world product is labeled Made in China. Besides focusing on the scale, the author brings us into deeper inquiry about China s rise: How China s rise will affect the world? Will China keep rising? The author s analytic opinion begins with a story when he visited the Chinese Academy of Social Science in Beijing. His purpose was originally merely visiting and exploring the academy; however, ... The story was about the elders who argued that their horses were better than the zebras, but they found out that zebras were actually better so that they accepted to embrace. As the time passed, the villagers gradually became used to the zebras. Zhang Weiying used this kind of approach in pricing. One is sold at controlled price while others are sold at market price. It provided for an interest free loan to assist eligible households to meet the down payment on a small to medium sized domestic flat in the private sector (La Grange, 1997, p. 75 76). Sale of Flats to Sitting Tenants Scheme (SFSTS) was introduced in 1991. The proposal states that about five year old flats were to be considered for sale to overcome the two major barriers to home ownership: the high price of private sector dwellings and the limited stock of HOS/PSPS flats relative to demand (La Grange, 1997, p. 77). Tenants Purchase Scheme (TPS) was another scheme announced in December 1997, offering tenants an opportunity to buy their units at deeply discounted prices, reduced public housing tenants bids for private homes. However, this adversely affected home transactions. Moreover, the Housing Department started to contract out estate maintenance management services to Property Management Agents in private sector from 1987. All these schemes have successfully encouraged private sectors to participate in housing except SFSTS which was proved to be a failure under such a harsh requirement and merely 3000 4000 five year old flats were sold under the scheme in first year operation (La Grange, 1998, p. 512). Failure Of Failure After Failure As my first semester of college is coming to an end, I would like to reflect on my experience here within the Honors 120 and 121 class on Failure and the Question Wheel. I chose this class on failure because I have always held myself to such high standards that I hoped to be able to find a way to accept failure in some instances. Within our first week in class, we made claims about failure. My favorite claim was that every failure is in some way a success. Although this claim was not very debatable and incredibly generic, I was able to really let my mind explore what it was trying to say. Throughout the semester I experienced failure after failure, but that allowed me to see that success can still be achieved within failures. One major failure I experienced throughout the entire semester was my failure to speak up in class. In the beginning of the school year I failed to speak up mainly because I was shy and being around all new people whom I did not know made me feel very anxious. I thought that my anxietyabout this class would lessen over time as I got to know my fellow classmates. However, as time went on I realized that while a majority of my classmates share these anxious feelings with me, the other students that had been speaking up are very strong willed and can be judgmental at times. The movement had one foot in the past on the other in the future as this period emerged. Before Christianity stepped out on its own, it was considered to be a sect of Judaism. Hellenism acted as a veneer over the everyday life of Jews, but beneath that veneer, the Jewish worldview dominated the Gospel, not pagan Hellenism (Eddy, 2014). The claim that the Trinity is a Hellenistic pagan corruption of the early church was denied by recent research. Early Christianitywas rooted in Jewish theological thought and like Judaism, the new faith guarded its identity (Eddy, 2014). Christian and secular writers credited women with the growth of the church (Krueger and Kroger, 2012). There is nothing inherent in the character of Christian ministry as it is presented in the writings of the New Testament which would give reason for the exclusion of women. On the contrary, the New Testament portrays Jesus treating women as equal human beings. It also portrays women and men serving side by side in the various ministries of the early church . . . According to the evidence, the exclusion of women from ecclesiastical ministry is neither in accord with the teaching or practice of Jesus with that of the first century church (Bacchiocchi, 1987). Contrary to Rabbi ben Azariah s remark that Rather should the words of the Torah be burned than entrusted to a woman . . . Whoever teaches his daughter the Torah is like one who teaches her obscenities, the Holy Spirit was poured out on all the disciples, men and women alike, on the Day of Pentecost (Bacchiocchi, 1987). Peter quoted Joel to solidify that Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. . . and on my menservants and my maidservants in those days I will pour out my Spirit (Acts 2:17 18). Maidservants meant that women had received the gift of the Holy Spirit (Bacchiocchi, 1987). • 36. How Did Cage Influence Theater Artist Influence on Theater Artist and Practitioners. Whether Cage directly influenced artists, it is difficult to put into context. Hence, one can argue that Cage as stated in the introduction paragraph, made an impact on modern music through his incorporation of avant garde instrumentation and the idea of ecological music was dictated by chance. However, Cage had examined the use of avant garde music in experimental cinema. He used chance, avant garde instrumentation, electro acoustics, ambient sound, and silence in his film scores. In addition, Cage had collaborated with theater artist/practitioners such as Maya Deren, Sidney Peterson, and Herbert Matter, who were central figures in American avant garde filmmaking as well as experimental design. One can argue that indeed, Cage dealt with experimentation, and innovation, chance operations, which is what avant garde, is essentially about. Therefore, this is the major reason critics laud him, as one of the leading figures of the post war avant garde movement. In order to understand Descartes argument and its sometimes radical ideas, one must have at least a general idea of his motives in undertaking the argument. More significantly, Descartes implies that all consciousness could actually be a dream state, thus proving that the senses can be doubted. The dream argument has its intrinsic problems, however. One, is that images in dreams can be described as quot;painted images quot;.2 In other words, a dream image is only a portrait of a real life object, place or person. If we are dreaming then it is implied that at some point we were conscious and able to perceive these things. If we are able to perceive these things then we must admit that we have senses and that our senses are, at least in part, true. This was exactly what Descartes was trying to disprove, and it was one reason he abandoned the dream argument. The second problem with this argument is that it points to mathematics as a point of certainty. I believe Descartes best explained this in his own words: quot;[W]hether I be awake or asleep, two plus three equals five and a square does not have more than four sides: nor does it seem possible that such obvious truths can fall under the suspicions of falsity. quot;3 Even when we are dreaming, the laws of mathematics and geometry hold true, but they can not be Descartes point of certainty for a simple reason; these abilities that Descartes believed were innate still had to come from somewhere. Although, as an article from Contemporary Literary Criticism Select clarified, Hinton had little to no options of novels to read for young adults. This helped to inspire her to write her first story in that she would then have something to read that contrasted from the Mary Jane Goes to the Prom junk, as Hinton had described many of the popular books for her age. With the constantly developing arm of the internet the territorial concept appears to vanish. New Methods for resolution of dispute should offer route to the traditional techniques. Normally the jurisdiction of a court is identified with the place where the offense is committed.
