Essay on Sir John Reith
Sir John Reith Sir John Reith was the first Director General of the BBC, and he had particularly
strong views on broadcasting as having a cultural and moral responsibility as a means of educating
and informing the masses. He once famously stated
It is occasionally indicated to us that we are apparently setting out to give the public what we think
they need and not what they want but few know what they want and very few what they need. In
any case it is better to overestimate the mentality of the public than to underestimate it. He who
prides himself on giving what he thinks the public wants is ... Show more content on

The idea of the BBC as a public service meant that the provision should be public goods rather than
a private commodity (Curran, 2000). The funding of the service was based upon the license fee and
their agreement with parliament, and this was decided when it was felt that advertising could limit
the number of programmes they would be able to broadcast. They maintained the view that our
responsibility is to carry into the greatest possible number of homes, everything that is best in every
department of human knowledge, endeavour, or achievement (cited in Smith, 1998).
That the BBC kept a firm degree of independence from the government was always at the forefront
of Reith s aims, and the fact that it also gained a reputation for its impartiality meant that it came to
be, and to some extent, still is a respected institution throughout the world. Nowadays, the BBC still
pride themselves on being free of commercial interests and political bias (2002).
During his reign on the BBC throne, Reith came under much criticism on his views of
overestimating the mentality of the public, and providing a service that contained the matters that
he thought should be most important to society. He was often accused of being elitist in his
approach to programming policy. Many of the working class began to feel alienated by the

Machiavellian Monarchies Of The 15th Century
Machiavellian Monarchies of the 15the Century To be Machiavellian means to follow the
theories of Machiavelli on what makes an effective sovereign. These were principles such as
being feared by the people, using military to gain power and diplomacy. Additionally that virtues
and vices are only a means to an end. I agree with the statement that the 15th century kingdoms of
Europe such as England, France were Machiavellian in action. The monarch in the 15th century
under Henry VII, a Machiavellian King established the Tudor dynasty in England. He used war to
take control at the end of the War of Roses. This was very Machiavellian of him because of how
Machiavelli believed that all great states are formed from war. In a ruthless

Global Security Law And Act Of Network Security
Introduction
Global Security Law / Act of Network Security
Global security also called International security. International security consists of the measures
taken by nations and international organizations, such as the United Nations, to ensure mutual
survival and safety. These measures include military action and diplomatic agreements such as
treaties and conventions. International and national security is invariably linked. International
security is national security or state security in the global arena. (Wikipedia, 2014)
The Global Security Act also includes Global Network Security. Network security consists of
products and services used to monitor, detect, and prevent unauthorized access, misuse,
malfunctioning, and destruction of a computer network. It helps to provide and maintain a secure
platform to enable users in the network to perform their critical tasks. Network security is
increasingly gaining prominence especially because the number of hackers who want to extort
money or steal critical information has increased. Not only has the number of networks security
threats increased, the level of sophistication is much higher and traditional defense mechanisms are
no match for these threats. Organizations, both large and small, have begun to realize the
importance of network security systems and have increased their investment in network security. In
addition, there is now a growing realization that network security systems can also increase
workforce productivity,

Ballet Dance Ethnography
Inspired by personal experience as a ballet dancer and researcher (Dornelles de Almeida; Flores
Pereira, 2013) I plan to conduct a qualitative study through a bodily centred (Crossley, 1995)
ethnography at professional ballet companies, as well as with independent professional ballet
dancers in London. Ethnography offers the opportunity to understand cultural differences and
reveals what people think and show us the cultural meanings they use daily (Spradley, 1980,
p.vii).The ethnographer s goal is to go beyond a cognitive, behavioural and representational
apprehension of the research field (Grau, 2011; Hanna, 2014). As soon as different organisations
promote environments where embodiment occurs by its employers in diverse ways (Dale, 2001),...

A body centred project requires reflection on one s own internally perceived senses where bodily
experiences perceived by the dancer researcher enables exploration of internally perceived
accumulation of bodily knowledge experienced by other dancers (Potter, 2007) including appraisal
of dancer s kinaesthetic proprioceptive awareness of movement experience (Roses Thema, 2007).
This way the researcher functions as an informant from the field helping to explain relevant
questions about an specific phenomenon.
The ethnographic method has been applied by dance scholars, as for example Pickard (2015), Wulff
(2008), Aalten (2004), Roncaglia (2008), Salosaari (2001), Stanger (2013), Wainwright, Williams
and Turner (2007)and others, to analyse the dancer s perceptions, mainly with the techniques of
data collection of participant observation and interviews. Roses Thema (2007) also included groups

The Great House, By Frank Herbert
Literature has gone through many eras, with each changing it in its own way, but it can be argued
that the era that changed literature the most was the modern era. Dune by Frank Herbert is a
science fiction novel of the modern era and fits the modernist theme to a tee. The modern era, like
any other literary era, can be categorized by the attributes that modernist literature contain. Dune,
being a member of the literary era, is riddled with such attributes. Dune is part of the modern
literary era, as shown by it following the general theme and properties of that era.
In works of the modern literary era figures of authority are often shown as untrustworthy, this
property is clearly visible in Dune. The great houses, a source of authority in the Dune universe, are
widely seen as untrustworthy and suspicious. An assassination attempt is aimed at main character
Paul Atreides. The Atreides, the great house the main character belongs to, believe it was the
Harkonnen s, another of the great houses, who planned it, showing their distrust and suspicion of
them. Duke Leto says and were Harkonnen creatures almost to a man. They have tried to take the
life of my son! (Dune, pg. 126) showing how his distrust in them causes him to question their
humanity. This shows how the great houses, Dune s form of an authority figure, are seen as not
trustworthy even by the other great houses. The great houses are not to be trusted, showing how
authority in Dune isn t always to be trusted, but

Soft issues, cultural human resource issues will be as much of a driver of cost and schedule as the
hard issues like planning and execution. It is critical to the success of this project, and perhaps the
organization s international growth strategy, that this project be completed on time, and on budget.
The organization anticipates possible schedule delays and cost overruns due to cultural assumptions
and misunderstandings. Knowing that schedule delays will affect costs and international expansion
strategy, we pay particular attention to the project s critical path (see Appendix A, and the
accompanying MS Project file s network diagram view). To deal with these risks, the team has built
several feeding time buffers into the work breakdown schedule, at constraints along the critical path
(Goldratt, 1998). A large project buffer has also been added to protect the end of the project.
Attention to the safety buffers along the critical path will contribute to the team s successful
execution of the project. This plan presents an overview of the project organization, including the
team s organization chart, project responsibilities, and staffing plans. Next, the plan addresses the
organization s management process related to this project. Management s objectives, priorities,

A Streetcar Named Desire Analysis
Avila, Bryan
Lang and Lit Year 2
11/11/17
Written Task 2
Title of the text for analysis: A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams. 2004.
Part of the course to which the task refers: Part 4 Literature, a Critical Study
Prescribed Question: How and why is a social group represented in a particular way?
My critical response will:
в—ЏShow how the males are portrayed in the text
в—ЏShow how Stanley is the alpha male and what his role is
в—ЏShow how Mitch is the omega male and what his role is
In A Streetcar Named Desire, men are the social groups represented with these roles alpha, beta,
omega. Males are portrayed as a big part in Tennessee s book, which shows the respect and rights
they hold. The men are shown this way to give off their looks and personality. The way things are
set up in the book shows the understanding of each male characters and where they stand.
The top dog Stanley is the alpha, Pablo and Steve are betas and Mitch is the omega. For
example,in the book the author writes, Stanley doesn t give me a regular allowance; he likes to
pay bills himself. (pg 78) . Making it seemed as if Stanley is the man and has it all under control .
The author wants the audience to know that Stanley has the money so he is the one in charge and
what he want has to be done, and done his way. But on the other hand the author introduces Mitch
as a very soft, awkward man that is a mamas boy .The book quotes, Hurry back and we ll fix you
a sugar tit. (pg 48). The quote refers that Mitch is as a man who can t do anything on his own
and he still is a baby and lives off his mom and has her do things for him. Tennessee used
different reference to show how the men are described in, A Streetcar Named Desire. Alphas are
always the first or leaders in the group. While betas back the alphas up and got their backs. And
last are omegas they are the loser. Betas are more anti and careless of what others care, they don t
care what others think. Steve and Pablo are kind and they try to not interfere in much of what goes
on which are characteristics of a beta. Stanley is forced, pinioned by the two men, into the
bedroom. (pg 63).
In A Streetcar Named Desire, Stanley is to be seen and known as to the most dominant

The Sim Research Paper
In the fifth grade I want to spend the summer with my cousin s year. She s my dad s twin s
daughter so that makes us more like sisters. During that summer she introduced me to this game
called The Sim. The Sims is a life simulation video game series developed by EA Maxis and
published by Electronic arts. The purpose of this gameis to create humanlike characters called Sims
and you as the player get to direct their life. You control whether they get jobs, start families, or
cause trouble. For a couple of hours, in my case six hours minimum every time I play, you play God
and are in complete control. After that summer I was. I have my parents purchased the latest

The necessities are done now it s time for the real game. And you have a swim now it s time to
control it. On your screen you will see a status bar in the bottom left corner. This is everything
you need to know about your Sim and your Sim surroundings. The key points though are the
icon shaped like a head, an icon shaped like a desk, and the section where you see five squares
together. The icons shaped like a head brings you to a panel wall you will see a list of need
which are hunger, energy hygiene, fun, social, and bladder. These bars will appear drink and
slowly decrease over time. The lower they decreased the more your chances your son s life is in
danger so you need to keep the bars up. To keep them up you just click on certain things around
the house that would help raise them. For example click on the fridge to keep you feed them or
a shower to clean them. The only Bar you can t raise using items at home is your social bar for
that you need to human or sim interaction. For similar action you just fine random cities around
town and click on them. You will get a series of options in which your Sim interacts with another.
For example Susie moved in and met her new neighbors Honey and Quincy. I had her invite them
in and start up a conversation. If I have Susie to continue build to build a relationship with them
eventually it will become friends. I can build upon the relationship by talking to them,

Truck Descriptive
Hot sand specs, wet dirt, some scrapes, minor bleeding and burns mixed with sweat can be seen
glistening on top of my forearms as I gripped the sensitive butterfly trigger of the Ma Deuce.
Hundreds of expended brass cartridges and links falling off the hood and roof of the truck sound as
if Santa s sleigh has made it to the neighborhood. Even though, the internal radio communications
are squelching between member s inside our truck, those truck commanders from the other three
trucks, and the SCIF (Sensitive Compartmentalized Information Facility) commanders; sounds of
my heartbeat and the heavy winding rubber on the road drowns out all attempts of sending or

Normally, the engineers spend nearly half a day removing ordnance and keep a presence around
such an area. However, with the largest field of vision, poked out of the truck, I didn t see a sign
that anyone was coming to commandeer that ordinance. Our routine commenced. After
departing the main Entry Controlled Point, where local forces participated in the security of
protecting our camp, we stopped briefly at the test fire range. It s an extremely oversized sand
whole where I get to test fire my Ma Deuce (.50 Cal, belt fed, crew served, M2, Browning Heavy
Machine Gun). The test passes, as do the others on trucks one and two. And immediately we are
on the road, in a town that breezes by in about six minutes of driving. It is a remarkable town
with peoples business literally in the street. Kids are playing in blown up cars and parents look
to be haggling prices at the small stands. Nothing but the openness of the world is just passed
this. Although, there is a few check points that our TC (Truck Commander), Wild Man, sends
back to the SCIF, before and after approaching. Also, there is a local police check point that is
hastily built. Here: always a hand full of unarmored rather small pick up trucks with a tiny version
of my .50 Cal affixed in their beds. The trucks have police stickers on them, along

The Benefits Of Artificial Intelligence
Many wonder if Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be beneficial to humanity. AI has been around
for only a few years. Voice Assistants such as Bixby and Siri help people maneuver through
screen selection, apps and much more on their cell phones easier and faster. AI is slowly getting
better, with things such as self driving cars and robotic relations. There are two types of AI,
weak AI and strong AI. Weak AI are things we have today, such as those listed above (Siri and
Bixby), and the strong AI is what researchers are currently working towards. There are many
ways that AI could be useful in our lives, it can help us to move forward in technology that we
have yet to make many advances in, it can also make everyday complications and annoyances
much easier for humans. With the help of AI, technology will be better and faster than ever
because the AI will not make repeated mistakes like people would. First, AI is created to learn as
they go. AI is able to make fast advances by being given set goals. In the article, Benefits and
Risks of AI, the author wrote, Machines can obviously have goals in the narrow sense of
exhibiting goal oriented behavior: the behavior of a heat seeking missile is most economically
explained as a goal to hit a target (Tegmark). Researchers are able to set a goal for the AI to reach
so it will not get off task, which will make the research process faster without common distractions.
This allows the AI to work through the problems quickly

The Creators Of Salt Of The Earth
The creators of Salt of the Earth had a consciousness of radical activism (Aptheker 2015). Paul
Jarrico, Michael Wilson, and Herbert J. Biberman made connections between the Cold War anti
union sentiment and what was happening in the lives of the community at Hanover, New Mexico
(Balthasar 353). Salt fuses the antiracist, anti imperialist sensibility...with the central popular front
icon and narrative form the strike tale. In this sense Salt is not simply an expansion of a 1930s
political aesthetic; it is the fulfillment of it (Balthasar 356). This included thinking about how
different forms of oppression impact people. Their final film implicitly critiques the United States
imperialist policies and treatment of minority groups (Balthasar 355), a dangerous move in the
era of high tensions due to the red scare. This, along with affiliations with the Hollywood Anti
Nazi League (HANL) made them targets of the United States government (Balthasar 354). Their
careers had been destroyed, since no one wanted to make themselves a target of the U.S. by being
friendly with people that were accused of being communists, and their film was blacklisted. The
leading actress, Rosaura Revualtas, who had already radically starred in what is recognized as the
first lesbian film (Aptheker), also faced punishment for starring in Salt. Though she was here
legally, participation in the film was grounds for her deportation. Furthermore, she was banned from
acting in Mexico (Aptheker). Clint

Diamond Food Case Project Requirement 1 1. Manipulation of commodity cost. As a common
practice in the company, management would instruct related accounting employee to decrease the
commodity costs by a small incremental at a time, until the desired earning numbers for that period
was achieved. 2. Special accounting treatment of grower payments. Diamond made continuity
payment and momentum payment to manipulate cost to growers. These payments were claimed to
be advances for multi year supply from growers, hence the company delay the recognition of these
amounts as costs in later periods. However, payments to growers were actually for the crop in prior

Diamond didn t comply with it. In conclusion, recording of continuity and momentum payments did
not comply with GAAP. Requirement 3 (a) No, we don t agree with the junior auditor. Auditors
should consider the risk of fraud in the company and the inherent risk in the financial statement
when deciding overall materiality. Tolerable misstatement should be determined as 50 75 percent of
overall materiality in order to reduce the possibility that the total of uncorrected and undetected
misstatements would result in material misstatement. According to AU Sec. 312A 11, as a result of
the interaction of quantitative and qualitative considerations in materiality judgments,
misstatements of relatively small amounts that come to the auditor s attention could have a material
effect on the financial statements. An adjustment of 20 million of grower payables should have
been considered material since this single misstatement accounts for 1.63% of the total asset, which
was intolerable. In addition, this adjustment could have increased cost of goods sold by 20 million
and reduced net income to six million from 26 million. From the perspective of net income, the
adjustment was indeed material. (b) According to SAB 108, rollover approach quantifies a

Contrtactual Capacity of Minors
INTRODUCTION Contractual Capacity Contractual Capacity is the legal ability to enter into a
contract. Minors have particular rights and obligations established by the court when it comes to
contracts. Once a person reaches age 18, they are considered a legal adult in every state in the
nation. In addition to minors, other persons are able to avoid contracts. Mentally impaired and
intoxicated people, convicts, and aliens lack the capacity to enter into a contract. A Minor In law,
the term minor (also infant or infancy) is used to refer to a person who is under the age in which
one legally assumes adulthood and is legally granted rights afforded to adults in society. Depending

It remains a matter of fact, to be determined by reference to the minor s requirements, whether
the goods or services are necessaries. It need hardly be pointed out that this creates a good deal
of difficulty for the supplier who wishes to rebut the minor s plea of infancy with the pled that
what he supplied was a necessary. Although the concept of enforcing the minor s undertaking to
pay for necessaries was developed not for the benefit of the tradesman who may trust the infant,
but for the benefit of the infant himself, it is to be doubted that many adults are encouraged to deal
with the minor solely on account of such elusive tests. The nature of a minor s liability on contracts
involving necessaries remains a matter for debate, and the question is whether the liability is
strictly contractual or arises in quasi contract. Both views have been espoused in the same case. L.J.
said: The plaintiff, when he sues the defendant for goods supplied during infancy, is suing him in
contract on the footing that the contract was such as the infant, not withstanding infancy could
make. Support for this view is found in Roberts v. Gray, a case involving an executory contract for
instruction (thought to be in the class of contracts for necessaries), where damages were awarded
for breach. Fletcher Moulton L.J., on the other hand, held in Nash v. Inman CASE that: An infant,
like a lunatic, is

Leonardo Da Vinci s Influence On Aviation
Flight Physics
Leonardo da Vinci improved our knowledge of flight by persisting and following his dreams
even though we still today have yet to comprehend the full meaning of flight and how it works.
Due to his never ceasing effort, we now have a vast variety of flying machines and thanks to his
passion to this impossible feat, it seems as if we can do anything when it comes to flight
Leonardo da Vinci was Famous for many things In his lifetime from painting the Mona Lisa to
making the first tank, But probably the most interesting and fascinating thing about him was his
view on aviation. he did many things to improve his knowledge of flight. he invented many things

leonardo s ideas and inventions of flight vividly show he wanted to soar. Yet did he know that
2000 years later his inventions will bring humans into this the vault of heaven. His parachute
was a major success as it is still being used today as a tool for the military and a source of
excitement! (5 things Leonardo da Vinci did to change the world, ZME Science, 2008) His
ornithopter influenced modern day planes and how they functioned. So in effect, if it was not
for da Vinci then the planes we know today wouldn t exist. Leonardo da Vinci was so far ahead
of his time, many of his creations came a little too early in history to be viewed as practical by
his contemporaries. For example, he was fascinated by the idea that technology could put the man
in flight. He designed an early hang glider that could have functioned had it ever been
constructed. Although he outlined the plans for the world s first helicopter, the machine could
not have flown as the propellers turned against the direction of the rotors. His inspirations led
him to design the world s first parachute. In the long run, leonardo da vinci did so much more
than just change the world of aviation for generations to come, he changed the world by leading
others to follow in his footsteps. Leonardo da Vinci is a prime example of inspiration, courage, and
creativity for just about anybody that has a goal in mind

James K. Polk where he led statehood to Texas, and her father, Trevanion B. Dallas, was an

Economic Viability
As debates continue to escalate regarding climate change, many countries agree that action is
needed, but few are quick to act. The countries involved have to carefully consider the economic
viability of alternatives, respond to various political influences, as well as cater to their growing
populations. This complicates the issue and makes it unlikely that we will see any significant
unified efforts anytime soon.
Converting from a widely used energy source can an expensive endeavor. One must consider the
costs of establishing the new infrastructure to support the energy source. Despite these high startup

For comparison, the petrochemical industry requires an investment of $220,000 per job. Not only
does ethanol production require a smaller investment, it boasts a yield of jobs per unit of energy
produced that is 152 times that of the oil industry. The immense economic benefits to both the
producers and consumers of ethanol fuel have led Brazils to embrace ethanol and approach energy
independence. (Goldemberg, Coelho and Guardab 2008)
As stated in class, national as well as international politics also play a large role in energy source
choice. Germany s use of natural gas is heavily influenced by its relationship with Russia.
Germany is the second largest importer of natural gas in the world at 79 billion cubic meters, and
it relies on Russia, the second largest importer of natural gas in the world, for 39% of its natural
gas. As a result of this energy dependence, Germany s relationship with Russian can have
significant impacts on its energy use. (GuillГ©n 2017)
The politics of energy use can be felt just as strongly within a country. In the United States,
companies spend millions of dollars a year lobbying Congress. Between 2009 and 2014, there
was a total of $3.1 billion spent on lobbying environmental issues. Pacific Gas and Electric is one
of the greenest utilities in the county and in 2008 it spent $27 million lobbying Congress which

REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Hospitality Curriculum and Employability Skills
According to Brand III (2005), One certainty is that continuous efforts must be made to revise and
update curriculum to ensure it is meeting student needs in the ever changing workforce. The
message from these studies is that educators should reassess their curriculum to ensure that their
curriculum is adequately developing students necessary employability skills (Walo, 2000).
Reflecting on the above assertions, it can be argued that curriculum should be reviewed
periodically to keep up with changes and

Disadvantages Of A Duvet Cover
A duvet cover is the protective layer which is put over the duvet and has a closure. The duvets are
not cheap and they can cost a lot of money. It is important to make sure that the duvets are looked
after properly. If they are not maintained properly, their life will be shortened and it will cost a lot
of money. It is not very easy to clean the duvets and it should be made sure that while cleaning the
duvets, the instructions of the manufacturers are taken in to consideration. The duvetcovers are used
because they are less expensive and easy to clean. The duvet covers can be changed easily and it
can be done without going through the difficulty of complete redecorating.

need to be reinforced at the stitching so that they will not be frayed while being washed. They
indicate the good quality of the covers.
Materials used:
The covers are made up of several different materials. The material can be chosen according to the
way you sleep at night. The comfort level should be kept in mind while choosing the material.

conditions of the American economy. In the current American economy, we must concentrate on

The real GDP is determined by using a price deflator, which can tell you how prices have
changed from year to year. How the BEA does this is by multiplying the deflator by the nominal
GDP. The real GDP is lower than the nominal GDP. When calculating the real GDP the BEA
doesn t include income from U.S. companies, and people from outside the country. They also
take out inflation. Then the final product is counted, meaning that if a U.S. citizen makes a shirt
and the outfit was made in the U.S. then the value of the outfit as a whole will be counted. When
interpreting the GDP it can be used to show investors which companies are growing the fastest. It
can help investors know where to invest so they do not lose money. So in conclusion, I hope that I
was able to give you guys an idea of what the economy may look like based on recent history and
expected future conditions. It s important to remember that our economy must be thriving for the
better if we all want our business to be successful. In my opinion I feel that if we concentrated more

Importance Of Data Storage Network Security
Importance of Data Storage Network Security
There would be no need for securing data storage network if you can save your information on the
network without anyone altering the content. However, it is almost impossible for you to save
your information in an unsecured data storage network and retrieve it just the way you saved it. In
today s world where hackers are rampant everywhere, the need to secure data storage network
becomes a major concern for security experts.
Over the years, our team of security experts have published a series of articles regarding
information security, and also created many awesome video courses, which are highly valuable in
tackling the information security challenges.
Before we highlight the importance of data storage network security, it is wise to talk briefly
about data storage on its own. Of course, we all know the reasons why we need to save
information in a secure place. And knowing fully that those information are saved in the data
storage network, it is important to device strong security measures to protect the network from
possible harm.
Data storage network security is the process of securing data storage architecture and protect the
information therein from unauthorized people. The reason for data storage network security is to
ensure that the information is well protected from unauthorized individual. Definitely, if the storage
network is not secured, it s almost 100 percent certain that the stored information would be

The Crusade Of The Children s Crusade
During the early 13th century, while the wars against he Albigensians were occurring, crusade
preaching became integral aspect of life in parts of Germany and northern France. On top of the
already present religious fervor the most of Europe had, these preachings drove people to act on
their devoutness to God. The Children s Crusade, which was a popular religious movement in
Europe during 1212, was a movement in which thousands of youth assembled and took crusading
vows, their objective was to recover the Holy Land, Jerusalem, from the Muslims. Lasting only a
couple of months, the Children s crusade didn t have Papal approval nor the materials needed to
have a successful crusade, and ultimately this youthful religious undertaking was a failure; none of
the self proclaimed crusaders ever made it to Jerusalem. Although the Children s crusade was not
considered an official crusade, the Children s crusade provides insight on how influential the call
to crusade was despite the dangers and challenges the journey posed to those who set out to recover
the holy land in the name of God.
Inspired by the penitential preaching s of Pope Innocent III in addition to the growing frustrations
with the failure of the previous crusades, the participants of the children s crusade believed that the
poor of Christ could achieve things by their pious righteousness that that the church prelates and
secular lords could not. Although they didn t have the resources that Nobel s had, multiple

Tolstoy Double Standard
A double standard is a rule or principle that is applied to different groups or people in unfair
ways, being widely used as discriminatory, and to put down others in order to gain personal
benefits. In the novels of Flaubert and Tolstoy the double standard is mainly applied to separate
women from men, but also to separate social groups, in ranks and beliefs. In Tolstoy s novel, the
women especially upper class, had to speak French and English on alternate days , as said by
Levin (1.6.21), to whom it also seemed that the femaleside ... had no defects in them, ... possible
perfection. (1.6.21). During the time this novel was being written the feminist movement had

Another depiction of the double standard happens when it is said that The Russian custom of

the emancipation, children s fate was no longer decided by their parents, nor the girls were
given complete freedom, therefore it can be said that matchmaking was open to interpretation,

for women it was based on expectation and . In addition, when marriage comes a girl ... is
expected to choose, but she can t choose and only answers yes or no. (3.10.270), which explains
that when it comes to choose a partner for marriage, the expectations were higher for women than

and after pregnancy, and will have a support that will help her when she faints or is not feeling

The Old Guitarist And Madame X
What is art? Over the course of this class, the conclusion I have come to is that anything can be
art if someone believes it to be so. Art can be man made, created from nature, or even something
imagined or felt through the senses, yet it is completely subjective to the viewer to decide if
what they see is classified as art. I often think of the phrase, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
during class because art is not always beautiful, or even pleasant, but it is a personal perspective.
The Old Guitarist and Madame X are two creations that I believe are art, an opinion most people
would agree with solely based off the success and fame of the creators, Pablo Picassoand John

His works during this time were essentially monochromatic paintings in shades of blue and
green, though there were occasionally other colors as accents. These blue shades, prevalent in
The Old Guitarist, represented Picasso s severe depression as he drew into himself and kept
isolated from the rest of society. In contrast, Madame X was painted as a Realist portrait, as
expected during the Realism movement. However, the portrait also depicts clear influence of
Impressionism in the background as Sargent blurred colors to make the exact definitions of her
form unknown, forcing the viewer to feel the background rather than view it, and leave the space
mysterious. Sargent was attempting to capture, in his own words, her unpaintable beauty and
hopeless laziness and created a timeless painting. The stark contrast between the coloring and
styles of these paintings make them indelible to art history. With attention to not only the artists,
but the works themselves, I do believe The Old Guitarist and Madame X are both pieces of art. I
believe them to be art because both pieces had the intent to capture some type of emotion or
moment in time. For Picasso, he was mourning the death of his friend and painted the guitar as a
symbol for immersing oneself in music, filling the space around the solitary figure. Picasso perhaps

is one of laissez faire, with such evidence being admitted without sufficient regard to whether or
not it is sufficiently reliable to be considered by a jury (Akers, 2000). According to the
Commission, this approach is unsatisfactory and recommended that the admissibility of expert
evidence should be considered in the criminal investigation only if (1) it is provided beyond

qualified to give such evidence or testimonies and (2) the court should properly scrutinize the

The Problems of Drug Addiction
Drug addiction A reasonable number of people do not understand why other people get addicted
to drugs. Some even associate drug abuse and addiction with lack of moral principles or
willpower. People subscribing to this school of thought believe that drug addicts can stop using
drugs by simply changing their behavior. They fail to realize that drug addiction is a complex
disease whose eradication calls for many things other than changing habits. Drugs basically
change the way a human brain works. Drug addiction like any other disease can be treated and
addicts helped to lead productive lives (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Drug
addiction has far reaching ramifications on individuals and society. It leads to decline in
productivity and a surge in health and crime related costs. In the United States, these costs
exceed $600 billion annually. These costs include $181 billion for illicit drugs, $193 billion for
tobacco, and $235 billion for alcohol. These costs do not bring into perspective the breadth of
destructive public health and safety implication of drug abuse and addiction like family
breakages; loss of employment; failure in school; domestic violence; and child abuse which are
not factored in (Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2004). Decision to take drugs is normally
voluntary. However, changes in brain after protracted use makes one to loose self control and
ability to resist intense impulses that urges him to take drugs. Drug s

He made his fortune in the steel industry, controlling the most iron and steel operations ever

Icc Of The Icc Constitution And Structure Essay
In early 2014, an ICC meeting was held in Singapore to discuss possible revisions to the ICC
constitution and structure. The main matter to be discussed was the potential formation of a big
three , which would completely overhaul cricket s governance and finances. Eight out of the ten
full ICC members voted in favor of the changes, which would give greater authority and
autonomy to England, Australia and India, with only two nations Pakistan and Sri Lanka
abstaining from the vote. This meeting led to the formation of the big three in international
cricket. Originally, member nations would receive equal distribution of the money generated
from world tournaments and television deals. Now, however, India, Australia, and England
would gain a larger piece of the aggregate revenue and smaller countries would be victims to
drastic budget cuts. Furthermore, a new executive committee will be formed with five members
to discuss pertinent ICC financial and competition matters, with England and Wales Cricket
Board (ECB), Cricket Australia (CA) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) all
guaranteed a permanent place in the committee. The ICC which claims to promote and protect
equality and fairness in cricket, is clearly working against its ideals when it passed this resolution
to form the big three . Now the power balance has shifted and smaller countries are now weaker

Should Companies Invest in Virtual Mentors?
Turbocharge your career by cultivating multiple channels for information flow
Having a mentor has always helped with professional development and career advancement, but
in today s complex workplace, one mentor won t do. To spark innovation and ideapreneurship,
employees often require relevant information on multiple areas of expertise in real time. That s
why there is a need for multiple mentors and expertise from various domains. The good news is
the rapid expansion of social media inside and outside companies has made it possible for aspiring
leaders to hone their craft from the very best experts in many domains via the internet or

That is the finding of a study we conducted (financially supported by The SHRM Foundation) of
HCL Technologies (HCL). The India based IT consulting organization, has over 103,696
employees distributed globally across its very own delivery centers and client sites. HCL
encourages them to use the KM and social collaboration system, internally referred to as Ask HCL,

Italian American Attitudes Towards Speech Summary
Italian American attitudes towards speech not only is representative of their family orientated
culture, but also for the role oral traditions as a medium for providing younger generations the
necessary values and beliefs to thrive in what otherwise was a foreign society with different
ideologies. Throughout Mount Allegro, Mangione repeatedly talks about the idea of second
generation Italian immigrants being able to speak the parent s language, or mother tongue, Italian
(Mangione 20 and 49 50). His mother, who reinforced the rule of only speaking Italian in the
household, emphasizes the importance of being able to communicate in a language shared by

Italian American attitudes towards speech are often taught through descent, by lessons told from
older generations. One such lesson is the idea of never telling others about one s own problems or
family problems. Particularly relevant in Mangione s anecdote about Comare Alfreda and
Compare Calogero, in which Comare Alfreda discusses Compare Calogero s philandering to
Jerre s mother (Mangione 168). As discussion of Compare Calogero s philandering to others
could result in others, especially women, paying more attention to Compare Calogero, this could
have resulted in Comare Alfreda s problems from coming true, emphasizing the sense of
vulnerability when one reveals too much information. This particularly becomes relevant, as
Mangione states that eventually the details of the story soon got around to [his] relatives
(Mangione 180). In addition to keeping quiet about one s own problems, the idea of omereta, the
oath of silence, is also a practice passed down through descent, due to the older generation s lack of
faith in the law (Mangione

Regional Differences Between New England And The...
Despite the population of settlers in New England and the Chesapeake region being mostly
English emigrants, the regions evolved very differently. The difference in development between
New England and the Chesapeake region occurred as a result of the differences in economies,
religious views, and senses of unity. One cause for the differences between the regions was the
differences in economies. In New England, the land of the settlements was divided more fairly,
with everyone getting a fitting size of land and a share of the planting grounds and meadows
(Doc D). Prices of goods also tended to be more fair in New England. There, tradesmen and laborers

The New England settlers believed that it was important to have unity among themselves and
work together and help each other to survive and establish a life in the settlements (Doc A).
Tradesmen were expected not to impoverish each other due to overpriced products. The more fair
split of property and agricultural land was also a display of the sense of economic unity in New
England (Doc D). The importance of fair pricing and distribution of property to New England
settlers showed their sense of unity through the economy as they believed that economic unity was
necessary to the success of the settlements. The New England settlers also valued religious unity as
well. The structure of the towns around churches contributed to the theocracy of the settlements,
uniting those with the the same Puritan views. Alternatively, the Chesapeake region lacked the
same economic unity. With the drastic differences between the upper and lower classes, the lower
class was overcharged for any products, thus separating the classes instead of uniting them (Doc F).
This economic inequality led to Bacon s Rebellion, in which farmers rebelled against Governor
Berkeley as a result of the unfair classes and taxes. New England settlements had more economic
and religious unity, unlike the settlements in the Chesapeake region who lacked economic

Aquatic Plants Survive Better By Themselves Or With The...
AQUATIC PLANT SURVIVAL Do aquatic plants survive better by themselves or with the presence
of fish? Introduction Aquatic plants are plants that, overtime, have adapted to living submerged in
water, whether it be saltwater or freshwater. These plants are also referred to as hydrophytes or
macrophytes. All aquatic plants can only grow in water or soil that is always saturated with water
and commonly associated with wetlands. (Cook, 1974) Some principal factors in controlling the
distribution of the plants include duration of flooding, depth, nutrients and salinity. Water dwelling
vascular plants can be divided into ferns or angiosperms (including both monocots and dicots).

Iphone Vs. The Iphone
With everything going on in the world it is laughable how people are constantly arguing over
whether the Android beats the iPhone or vice versa. For a numerous amount of years, iPhones and
Androids have competed for the prestigious title of the best phone a person could buy. Although
iPhones and Androids share similar features, when a sense of competition is presented, there has to
be only one winner. There are some people who are undoubtedly loyal to the iPhoneand there are
others who are certainly devoted wholeheartedly to the Android. There is also the mix of people
who have an Android but love the iPhone and people with the iPhone who love the Android. Of
course they are other phone brands out there other than the illustrious iPhones and Androids. The
difference in Android and iPhone features, such as communication, freedom, apps, display size, etc.,
demonstrates how some good healthy competition could cause people all around the country to
debate with one another on a daily basis.
With a wide range of different phone designs, more freedom to do what you want, and an
applaudable display size, some people prefer the Android over the iPhone. Although the iPhone has
offered more choices than when they first came out, a customer still only has three screens and five
colors to choose from (Smith). The android has more options with waterproof phones, different
screen sizes, more colors, different materials and so much more. Androids have so many phone
companies a customer

Hughes Use of Literary Devices
Langston Hughes Use of Literary Devices Only a half of century after the abolition of slavery, the
African Americans began the movement of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920 s. Suppressed by
whites, segregation, second class citizen ship and a poor education Langston Hughes became one of
the most inspirational poets of his time. Langston Hugheslet the world know of his existence
through his poetry. Ignited with passion, pride and knowledge of the journey through slavery and
there after, Hughes used his poetry to paint the world through the eyes, ears and voice of an African
American. His magnificent use of similes, metaphors, symbolism and imagery intensify just that. In
Hughes poems Harlem A Dream Deferred and I, Too his use of these literary devices brings his
poetry to life. Imagery and similes are a vital part of Hughes poetry. In Harlem A Dream Deferred ,
Hughes use of imagery and similes go hand in hand. He uses Imagery to rouse the reader s senses.
What Happens to a Dream Deferred? (L1) Does it dry up, like a raisin in the sun? (L2 L3) The
Imagery here is what the raisin once was. The raisin once was a luscious grape that had been left in
the sun and forgotten. The simile here brings this line to life. The deferred dream compared to a
dried up raisin refers giving up on or letting go of your dream. Or Fester like a sore, and then run
(L4 L5) here the imagery evokes the pain of a sore and becomes infected. The simile of like a sore

Trout Fish
Heavy seasonal rain in rural areas has led to an increase of nutrient loads, from the topsoil into the
waterways. This can result in high concentrations of certain chemicals modifying aquatic plants,
quality of water affecting the health of trout fish. There are many probable causes resulting to the
death of trout fish, which could either be due to the fertiliser or the pH of the stormwater. The main
chemicals found in most fertilizer are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, known collectively as
NPK. They are the primary nutrients found in commercial fertiliser, each playing a key role in
helping the nutrition of the plant. However, the surrounding farms used a fertiliser rich in
ammonium, sulphate and phosphate. Due to the wide range of possible

Schizophrenic Patients In The Movie, A Beautiful Mind
My group chose to view the movie, A Beautiful Mind, which focused on the difficulties
experienced by schizophrenic patients. By viewing a movie, we would have a visual experience of
how schizophrenic patients are. In our current psychology pharmacotherapy class, we have learned
about the positive, cognitive, and negative symptoms of schizophrenia; however, the symptoms are
more abstract and harder to understand unless exposed. The positive symptoms include
spontaneous behaviors, hallucinations, hearing voices, etc; cognitive symptoms include impaired
ability to focus or maintain memory, while negative symptoms include inexpressive facials,
declined speech, lower social abilities, and lack of interest in pleasure or activities.
I have never seen or heard this movie before but I had an eye opening experience with it. This
movie made me realize the difficulties a schizophrenic patient experiences on a daily basis.
Affected people do not realize they have schizophrenia until signs become more severe such as the
inability to distinguish between what is real and what isn t. At first, I thought the patient was going
to be diagnosed immediately when people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A schizophrenic patient will see random letters or words that pop out and will focus so intently on
them that it makes them insane. There was a scene in the movie where the patient, John Nash, was
having delusions that there were top secret codes in numerous magazines that could reveal Russian
nuclear war plans. He was so frustrated that he was arguing with the hallucinations and pushed his
desk through his window. This shows that if schizophrenic patients are not treated they may use
physical means to alleviate their frustrations, and sometimes it may be too late for them to realize
that their hallucinations aren t

Information Gathered About Graphics Programming Essay
Introduction
The topic of this report will contain information gathered about graphics programming. Specifically
using the programming language, C# (pronounced C Sharp). C# is used by many programmers and
it is a modern and simple programming language and a perfect language that develops applications
with graphical capabilities.
Graphics in programming plays an important part in any C# application that is being developed.
For example, if you are developing an Image application, you may want to use Bitmaps, which is
a representation of a picture using pixels on a window. This is only one example of the many
possibilities of using graphics in C#. So I can assume that you will have prior knowledge and
experience of the C# Language as I will be focusing on four specific classes for working with
graphics that include the PictureBox Class, Image Class, Bitmap Class and Graphics Class.
A class can be defined as a blueprint for a type of object. It consists of methods and variables. In
.net windows forms namespace, it already includes a number of classes for developing graphical
applications. One way to access these Graphical capabilities you ll need to use the System.Drawing
namespace, this will give you access to Graphics Device Interface (GDI). GDI is essentially a
Microsoft Windows API that produces and runs graphical components and outputs these
components on to peripherals like your monitor and printers ( Windows GDI, n.d). There is not
much theory involved in C#

The use of pesticides and other chemicals, flowers are not engineered like crop seed to survive
these chemicals.
Action affecting Bees = Due to several human factors, bees are being threatened and destruction of
their habitat is the number one reason. For a habitat to remain successful and sustain populations it
must provide nesting sites and a seasonal succession of forage, and humans are depleting these
areas through population growth and industrialization (Corbet, Williams, Osborne, 1991).
3. Provide three specific actions that humans can take to minimize our impact on the ecosystem and
ensure the survival of lichens, trees, flowers, and bees.
Action 1 = Bees are a critical part of the ecosystem. Humans need to ensure habitat sustainment to
sustain bee populations do not deteriorate to levels that cannot be corrected.
Bees need food (nectar, pollen) provided by insect pollinated plants in order to reproduce and
produce more bees (Corbet, Williams, Osborne, 1991, p 2). By creating hives and environments
that are conducive to bee sustainment, it is possible that strides can be to reverse the downward
trend in populations. This is critical as one study showed. It stated that the loss of bees was a
domino effect to other species. It stated, If bee pollinated flowers

  • 2. Essay on Sir John Reith Sir John Reith Sir John Reith was the first Director General of the BBC, and he had particularly strong views on broadcasting as having a cultural and moral responsibility as a means of educating and informing the masses. He once famously stated It is occasionally indicated to us that we are apparently setting out to give the public what we think they need and not what they want but few know what they want and very few what they need. In any case it is better to overestimate the mentality of the public than to underestimate it. He who prides himself on giving what he thinks the public wants is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea of the BBC as a public service meant that the provision should be public goods rather than a private commodity (Curran, 2000). The funding of the service was based upon the license fee and their agreement with parliament, and this was decided when it was felt that advertising could limit the number of programmes they would be able to broadcast. They maintained the view that our responsibility is to carry into the greatest possible number of homes, everything that is best in every department of human knowledge, endeavour, or achievement (cited in Smith, 1998). That the BBC kept a firm degree of independence from the government was always at the forefront of Reith s aims, and the fact that it also gained a reputation for its impartiality meant that it came to be, and to some extent, still is a respected institution throughout the world. Nowadays, the BBC still pride themselves on being free of commercial interests and political bias (2002). During his reign on the BBC throne, Reith came under much criticism on his views of overestimating the mentality of the public, and providing a service that contained the matters that he thought should be most important to society. He was often accused of being elitist in his approach to programming policy. Many of the working class began to feel alienated by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Machiavellian Monarchies Of The 15th Century Machiavellian Monarchies of the 15the Century To be Machiavellian means to follow the theories of Machiavelli on what makes an effective sovereign. These were principles such as being feared by the people, using military to gain power and diplomacy. Additionally that virtues and vices are only a means to an end. I agree with the statement that the 15th century kingdoms of Europe such as England, France were Machiavellian in action. The monarch in the 15th century under Henry VII, a Machiavellian King established the Tudor dynasty in England. He used war to take control at the end of the War of Roses. This was very Machiavellian of him because of how Machiavelli believed that all great states are formed from war. In a ruthless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Global Security Law And Act Of Network Security Introduction Global Security Law / Act of Network Security Global security also called International security. International security consists of the measures taken by nations and international organizations, such as the United Nations, to ensure mutual survival and safety. These measures include military action and diplomatic agreements such as treaties and conventions. International and national security is invariably linked. International security is national security or state security in the global arena. (Wikipedia, 2014) The Global Security Act also includes Global Network Security. Network security consists of products and services used to monitor, detect, and prevent unauthorized access, misuse, malfunctioning, and destruction of a computer network. It helps to provide and maintain a secure platform to enable users in the network to perform their critical tasks. Network security is increasingly gaining prominence especially because the number of hackers who want to extort money or steal critical information has increased. Not only has the number of networks security threats increased, the level of sophistication is much higher and traditional defense mechanisms are no match for these threats. Organizations, both large and small, have begun to realize the importance of network security systems and have increased their investment in network security. In addition, there is now a growing realization that network security systems can also increase workforce productivity, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Ballet Dance Ethnography Inspired by personal experience as a ballet dancer and researcher (Dornelles de Almeida; Flores Pereira, 2013) I plan to conduct a qualitative study through a bodily centred (Crossley, 1995) ethnography at professional ballet companies, as well as with independent professional ballet dancers in London. Ethnography offers the opportunity to understand cultural differences and reveals what people think and show us the cultural meanings they use daily (Spradley, 1980, p.vii).The ethnographer s goal is to go beyond a cognitive, behavioural and representational apprehension of the research field (Grau, 2011; Hanna, 2014). This way the researcher functions as an informant from the field helping to explain relevant questions about an specific phenomenon. The ethnographic method has been applied by dance scholars, as for example Pickard (2015), Wulff (2008), Aalten (2004), Roncaglia (2008), Salosaari (2001), Stanger (2013), Wainwright, Williams and Turner (2007)and others, to analyse the dancer s perceptions, mainly with the techniques of data collection of participant observation and interviews. • 6. The Great House, By Frank Herbert Literature has gone through many eras, with each changing it in its own way, but it can be argued that the era that changed literature the most was the modern era. Dune by Frank Herbert is a science fiction novel of the modern era and fits the modernist theme to a tee. The modern era, like any other literary era, can be categorized by the attributes that modernist literature contain. Dune, being a member of the literary era, is riddled with such attributes. Dune is part of the modern literary era, as shown by it following the general theme and properties of that era. In works of the modern literary era figures of authority are often shown as untrustworthy, this property is clearly visible in Dune. The great houses, a source of authority in the Dune universe, are widely seen as untrustworthy and suspicious. An assassination attempt is aimed at main character Paul Atreides. The Atreides, the great house the main character belongs to, believe it was the Harkonnen s, another of the great houses, who planned it, showing their distrust and suspicion of them. Duke Leto says and were Harkonnen creatures almost to a man. They have tried to take the life of my son! (Dune, pg. 126) showing how his distrust in them causes him to question their humanity. This shows how the great houses, Dune s form of an authority figure, are seen as not trustworthy even by the other great houses. The great houses are not to be trusted, showing how authority in Dune isn t always to be trusted, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Soft issues, cultural human resource issues will be as much of a driver of cost and schedule as the hard issues like planning and execution. It is critical to the success of this project, and perhaps the organization s international growth strategy, that this project be completed on time, and on budget. The organization anticipates possible schedule delays and cost overruns due to cultural assumptions and misunderstandings. Knowing that schedule delays will affect costs and international expansion strategy, we pay particular attention to the project s critical path (see Appendix A, and the accompanying MS Project file s network diagram view). To deal with these risks, the team has built several feeding time buffers into the work breakdown schedule, at constraints along the critical path (Goldratt, 1998). A large project buffer has also been added to protect the end of the project. Attention to the safety buffers along the critical path will contribute to the team s successful execution of the project. This plan presents an overview of the project organization, including the team s organization chart, project responsibilities, and staffing plans. Next, the plan addresses the organization s management process related to this project. Part of the course to which the task refers: Part 4 Literature, a Critical Study Prescribed Question: How and why is a social group represented in a particular way? My critical response will: в—ЏShow how the males are portrayed in the text в—ЏShow how Stanley is the alpha male and what his role is в—ЏShow how Mitch is the omega male and what his role is In A Streetcar Named Desire, men are the social groups represented with these roles alpha, beta, omega. Males are portrayed as a big part in Tennessee s book, which shows the respect and rights they hold. The men are shown this way to give off their looks and personality. The way things are set up in the book shows the understanding of each male characters and where they stand. The top dog Stanley is the alpha, Pablo and Steve are betas and Mitch is the omega. For example,in the book the author writes, Stanley doesn t give me a regular allowance; he likes to pay bills himself. (pg 78) . Making it seemed as if Stanley is the man and has it all under control . The author wants the audience to know that Stanley has the money so he is the one in charge and what he want has to be done, and done his way. But on the other hand the author introduces Mitch as a very soft, awkward man that is a mamas boy .The book quotes, Hurry back and we ll fix you a sugar tit. (pg 48). The quote refers that Mitch is as a man who can t do anything on his own and he still is a baby and lives off his mom and has her do things for him. Tennessee used different reference to show how the men are described in, A Streetcar Named Desire. Alphas are always the first or leaders in the group. While betas back the alphas up and got their backs. And last are omegas they are the loser. Betas are more anti and careless of what others care, they don t care what others think. Steve and Pablo are kind and they try to not interfere in much of what goes on which are characteristics of a beta. Stanley is forced, pinioned by the two men, into the bedroom. (pg 63). Voice Assistants such as Bixby and Siri help people maneuver through screen selection, apps and much more on their cell phones easier and faster. AI is slowly getting better, with things such as self driving cars and robotic relations. There are two types of AI, weak AI and strong AI. Weak AI are things we have today, such as those listed above (Siri and Bixby), and the strong AI is what researchers are currently working towards. There are many ways that AI could be useful in our lives, it can help us to move forward in technology that we have yet to make many advances in, it can also make everyday complications and annoyances much easier for humans. With the help of AI, technology will be better and faster than ever because the AI will not make repeated mistakes like people would. First, AI is created to learn as they go. AI is able to make fast advances by being given set goals. In the article, Benefits and Risks of AI, the author wrote, Machines can obviously have goals in the narrow sense of exhibiting goal oriented behavior: the behavior of a heat seeking missile is most economically explained as a goal to hit a target (Tegmark). Researchers are able to set a goal for the AI to reach so it will not get off task, which will make the research process faster without common distractions. • 13. The Creators Of Salt Of The Earth The creators of Salt of the Earth had a consciousness of radical activism (Aptheker 2015). Paul Jarrico, Michael Wilson, and Herbert J. Biberman made connections between the Cold War anti union sentiment and what was happening in the lives of the community at Hanover, New Mexico (Balthasar 353). Salt fuses the antiracist, anti imperialist sensibility...with the central popular front icon and narrative form the strike tale. In this sense Salt is not simply an expansion of a 1930s political aesthetic; it is the fulfillment of it (Balthasar 356). This included thinking about how different forms of oppression impact people. Their final film implicitly critiques the United States imperialist policies and treatment of minority groups (Balthasar 355), a dangerous move in the era of high tensions due to the red scare. This, along with affiliations with the Hollywood Anti Nazi League (HANL) made them targets of the United States government (Balthasar 354). Their careers had been destroyed, since no one wanted to make themselves a target of the U.S. by being friendly with people that were accused of being communists, and their film was blacklisted. The leading actress, Rosaura Revualtas, who had already radically starred in what is recognized as the first lesbian film (Aptheker), also faced punishment for starring in Salt. Minors have particular rights and obligations established by the court when it comes to contracts. Once a person reaches age 18, they are considered a legal adult in every state in the nation. In addition to minors, other persons are able to avoid contracts. Mentally impaired and intoxicated people, convicts, and aliens lack the capacity to enter into a contract. It remains a matter of fact, to be determined by reference to the minor s requirements, whether the goods or services are necessaries. It need hardly be pointed out that this creates a good deal of difficulty for the supplier who wishes to rebut the minor s plea of infancy with the pled that what he supplied was a necessary. Although the concept of enforcing the minor s undertaking to pay for necessaries was developed not for the benefit of the tradesman who may trust the infant, but for the benefit of the infant himself, it is to be doubted that many adults are encouraged to deal with the minor solely on account of such elusive tests. The nature of a minor s liability on contracts involving necessaries remains a matter for debate, and the question is whether the liability is strictly contractual or arises in quasi contract. Both views have been espoused in the same case. L.J. said: The plaintiff, when he sues the defendant for goods supplied during infancy, is suing him in contract on the footing that the contract was such as the infant, not withstanding infancy could make. Support for this view is found in Roberts v. Gray, a case involving an executory contract for instruction (thought to be in the class of contracts for necessaries), where damages were awarded for breach. (5 things Leonardo da Vinci did to change the world, ZME Science, 2008) His ornithopter influenced modern day planes and how they functioned. So in effect, if it was not for da Vinci then the planes we know today wouldn t exist. Leonardo da Vinci was so far ahead of his time, many of his creations came a little too early in history to be viewed as practical by his contemporaries. For example, he was fascinated by the idea that technology could put the man in flight. He designed an early hang glider that could have functioned had it ever been constructed. Although he outlined the plans for the world s first helicopter, the machine could not have flown as the propellers turned against the direction of the rotors. His inspirations led him to design the world s first parachute. The Crusade Of The Children s Crusade During the early 13th century, while the wars against he Albigensians were occurring, crusade preaching became integral aspect of life in parts of Germany and northern France. On top of the already present religious fervor the most of Europe had, these preachings drove people to act on their devoutness to God. The Children s Crusade, which was a popular religious movement in Europe during 1212, was a movement in which thousands of youth assembled and took crusading vows, their objective was to recover the Holy Land, Jerusalem, from the Muslims. Lasting only a couple of months, the Children s crusade didn t have Papal approval nor the materials needed to have a successful crusade, and ultimately this youthful religious undertaking was a failure; none of the self proclaimed crusaders ever made it to Jerusalem. Although the Children s crusade was not considered an official crusade, the Children s crusade provides insight on how influential the call to crusade was despite the dangers and challenges the journey posed to those who set out to recover the holy land in the name of God. Inspired by the penitential preaching s of Pope Innocent III in addition to the growing frustrations with the failure of the previous crusades, the participants of the children s crusade believed that the poor of Christ could achieve things by their pious righteousness that that the church prelates and secular lords could not. I often think of the phrase, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder during class because art is not always beautiful, or even pleasant, but it is a personal perspective. His works during this time were essentially monochromatic paintings in shades of blue and green, though there were occasionally other colors as accents. These blue shades, prevalent in The Old Guitarist, represented Picasso s severe depression as he drew into himself and kept isolated from the rest of society. In contrast, Madame X was painted as a Realist portrait, as expected during the Realism movement. However, the portrait also depicts clear influence of Impressionism in the background as Sargent blurred colors to make the exact definitions of her form unknown, forcing the viewer to feel the background rather than view it, and leave the space mysterious. Sargent was attempting to capture, in his own words, her unpaintable beauty and hopeless laziness and created a timeless painting. The stark contrast between the coloring and styles of these paintings make them indelible to art history. With attention to not only the artists, but the works themselves, I do believe The Old Guitarist and Madame X are both pieces of art. I believe them to be art because both pieces had the intent to capture some type of emotion or moment in time. Introduction Aquatic plants are plants that, overtime, have adapted to living submerged in water, whether it be saltwater or freshwater. These plants are also referred to as hydrophytes or macrophytes. All aquatic plants can only grow in water or soil that is always saturated with water and commonly associated with wetlands. (Cook, 1974) Some principal factors in controlling the distribution of the plants include duration of flooding, depth, nutrients and salinity. Water dwelling vascular plants can be divided into ferns or angiosperms (including both monocots and dicots). (Hutchison Edmondson, 1957) When the aquatic plants in a water way... By viewing a movie, we would have a visual experience of how schizophrenic patients are. In our current psychology pharmacotherapy class, we have learned about the positive, cognitive, and negative symptoms of schizophrenia; however, the symptoms are more abstract and harder to understand unless exposed. The positive symptoms include spontaneous behaviors, hallucinations, hearing voices, etc; cognitive symptoms include impaired ability to focus or maintain memory, while negative symptoms include inexpressive facials, declined speech, lower social abilities, and lack of interest in pleasure or activities. I have never seen or heard this movie before but I had an eye opening experience with it. This movie made me realize the difficulties a schizophrenic patient experiences on a daily basis. Affected people do not realize they have schizophrenia until signs become more severe such as the inability to distinguish between what is real and what isn t. • 46. Information Gathered About Graphics Programming Essay Introduction The topic of this report will contain information gathered about graphics programming. Specifically using the programming language, C# (pronounced C Sharp). C# is used by many programmers and it is a modern and simple programming language and a perfect language that develops applications with graphical capabilities. Graphics in programming plays an important part in any C# application that is being developed. For example, if you are developing an Image application, you may want to use Bitmaps, which is a representation of a picture using pixels on a window. This is only one example of the many possibilities of using graphics in C#. So I can assume that you will have prior knowledge and experience of the C# Language as I will be focusing on four specific classes for working with graphics that include the PictureBox Class, Image Class, Bitmap Class and Graphics Class. A class can be defined as a blueprint for a type of object. It consists of methods and variables. In .net windows forms namespace, it already includes a number of classes for developing graphical applications. One way to access these Graphical capabilities you ll need to use the System.Drawing namespace, this will give you access to Graphics Device Interface (GDI). GDI is essentially a Microsoft Windows API that produces and runs graphical components and outputs these components on to peripherals like your monitor and printers ( Windows GDI, n.d). There is not much theory involved in C# ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Action affecting Bees = Due to several human factors, bees are being threatened and destruction of their habitat is the number one reason. For a habitat to remain successful and sustain populations it must provide nesting sites and a seasonal succession of forage, and humans are depleting these areas through population growth and industrialization (Corbet, Williams, Osborne, 1991). 3. Provide three specific actions that humans can take to minimize our impact on the ecosystem and ensure the survival of lichens, trees, flowers, and bees. Action 1 = Bees are a critical part of the ecosystem. Humans need to ensure habitat sustainment to sustain bee populations do not deteriorate to levels that cannot be corrected. Bees need food (nectar, pollen) provided by insect pollinated plants in order to reproduce and produce more bees (Corbet, Williams, Osborne, 1991, p 2). By creating hives and environments that are conducive to bee sustainment, it is possible that strides can be to reverse the downward trend in populations. This is critical as one study showed. It stated that the loss of bees was a domino effect to other species. It stated, If bee pollinated flowers do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
