Cultural Imperialism In The British East India Company
India s production of tea has increased from 10.8% to 90.13% since the British East India
Company started production in Calcutta, India over 35 years ago. According to India Tea News ,
the British East India Company dramatically increased the production of tea in India in response to
Qing China s monopoly in the teaindustry. During the 19th century, the British East India Company
was focused on controlling India, political and military gains in India, and trade of spices and
opium (Mohan). While the British East India Company was colonizing India and reaping the
rewards, the British colonists were introduced to different aspects of tea and cooking styles from
native Indians and Qing China (Liu). Soon after, the British colonists adopted the ideals/practices
of trading/brewing tea from Qing China. Since the British were introduced to different types of tea,
the demand had increased and thus prompted the British East India Company to intervene (Mohan).
This paper argues that Qing China struck fear in the British East India Company which forced the
company to use cultural imperialism throughout India and Europe during the 1840s 1890s. In order
to achieve their goals, the British East India Company conducted the tea trade as a private entity
working on behalf of the British Empire. Compared to the British East India Company, the Chinese
state had total control of the tea industry within Qing China. The British East India Company had
several differences and several

A large majority of urban residents tell interviewers that they support marriage in principle, and
dream of marrying themselves, but a substantial proportion of poor, urban women tell family
scholars that they are scared of marriage, both because they are not convinced that the men they
know have the job opportunities and relationship skills required to make marriage work. There is a
culture of gender distrust in urban American among males and females, a lot of women are concern
about male irresponsibility and sexual infidelity; meanwhile, the men report that women are too
suspicious, controlling, and disrespectful. Men and women in urban America often seek to
maintain control in their relationships by asserting their dominance over romantic partners;
sometimes, domestic violence is associated with efforts to asserts dominance; furthermore, men
often approach relationship with a strategy of securing as many sexual conquests as possible; this
strategy of having sex with multiple partners is especially prevalent among African American men

Over the last decade, while the U.S. based Eastman Kodak Company was sleeping, the Japanese
firm Fuji Photo Film opened its first film production plant in the U.S., cut prices, marketed
aggressively and stole valuable market share. Kodak maintains that it will not engage in a price
war to win customers back, due to potential profit erosion. The inroads that Fuji has made in the
U.S. market will certainly continue their momentum. They (Kodak) are competing against an
extremely determined, extremely proficient and extremely well financed company in Fuji, says
Michael Ellman, who tracks Kodak for Schroder Company.3 What then, begs the question, is
Kodak to do? Many analysts are demanding that Kodak s CEO George Fisher take drastic action to
cut costs, reduce debt and right the sinking ship.
THE CHANGING CUSTOMER The dynamics within the photo industry have changed
dramatically within the past 15 years. Once upon a time, the film industry within the United States
was basically stable and predictable, with industry leader Eastman Kodak, a US based company
headquartered in Rochester, N.Y., having a commanding share of the industry, hovering between 80
to 90%.4 No competitors even had a double digit percentage of the amateur photo market and many

Social Life Of The Usa And Oman
Social Life in the USA and Oman The social life is different from one country to another, but also
there are some commonalities and some similarities. Many people think that understanding of the
social life is not very important, but in fact, the social life is an important part of this life we should
understand it in the different countries. The United Statesand Oman each country has some
differences and some similarities in social life and it is obvious in people, families, lifestyle and
social life in the educational institutions.
The people in the United States are a mixture of different cultures and religions who socialize
with each other wonderfully. There are some people who have Asian or African origins, and that
is the reason for the culture diversity of the people in the United States, but they live with each
other and socialize with each other without any trouble. The social life in the United States is
based on the principle of respect. When I came to the USA, I thought I would face some
difficulties with socializing with other people because of my different religion and culture, but in
fact, nothing of that kind happened to me. From the time I arrived here until now, my different
culture and religion did not affect my social life.
The family is an important part of the social life in the United States. The United States is very vast
country, but that does not prevent people from visiting their relatives who are living far away in
another state. Also the

The Pros And Cons Of Blue-Sky Research
By blue sky research, Sir John Vane means researching and spending time partaking in activities
that a person is genuinely interested in, not wasting time on activities with a goal of reaching an
end product or result. Rather than using research as a means of self indulgence, Sir John Vane uses
the notion of blue sky research to instead participate in what one is interested in. Advantages to
blue sky research include the development of Bayeraspirinand its effects on society today. Through
genuine interest, Felix Hoffman was able to stumble upon the creation of aspirin, something
beneficial to millions today. Ian Frazier connects blue sky research to playing in the woods with
an explanation of marginal activities. Marginal activities are activities that certain members of
society, depending on their place or age, participate in with genuine interest and enjoyment. For
example, an adult would not be seen playing in the woods, as opposed to a child. Inversely, a child
would not be seen studying about the stock exchange. With these supposed cultural constructs, Ian
Frazier reminisces about when he would play in the woods with genuine interest and satisfaction.
Ian Frazier s marginal activity connects to Sir John Vane s blue sky research through the fact that
both include genuine, satisfying activities that enrich the community. As explained in Sir John
Vane s essay, Blue Sky Research, such research [holds] great promise for the community, helping
reverse today s urgency to show a return, (346). Because of Frazier s enjoyment, playing in the
woods was not a rushed activity, connecting to blue sky research and helping push Sir John Vane s
philosophy.
I agree that without such research, society would indeed be poorer, as would be our health. Blue
sky research is needed for the betterment of society today. Without a genuine interest or
satisfaction in an activity, one would not have a place or fit in society. Going to work somewhere
dreadful may be possible through the eyes of some, but those same people still go somewhere after
work fueled with enjoyment and genuine interest, ready to be partake in a hobby and start the
highlight of the day. The specific activity, however, is usually up to the person

film. Her physical features are more masculine such as her short hair and her lack of make up or
seductive clothing. Her actions and decisions in the movie were those of power and leadership
unlike the typical support role that women played during that time. To put it plainly, she was a

A large majority of what I learned was familiar due to the fact I ve taken an array of social
science classes as well as investigated on my own the workings of our society. I ve always been
intrigued with the invisible mechanics of life and because of my lack of social skills, I

interesting concept because it provided me with a greater range of tools to analyze the way I
see things. The concept felt like someone perfectly stated what I was thinking. I know this isn t
common to be publicly expressed, but I feel as though drugs are one of the ways to tap into the
sociological imagination. The effects of marijuana are enjoyable to me mostly because I think of
things in an entirely different perspective than ever before. This may not be true for everyone but
drugs offer us, if we re aware, a different perspective on life. I often wonder whether I spend more

Evil And Evil In East Of Eden By John Steinbeck
Everyone possess those evil and selfish actions, the biggest are maybe closing the mouth, ears,
and eyes to what is going around, and instead stay self preserved. Is the world an image of how
sinful one can be? Or does it lay within your actions. In the novel East of Eden by John
Steinbeck, Cal pursues to understand and live his life with his loved brother Aaron, dad Adam,
missing whore mom Kate, and his trustful servant Lee. He lives in a life where his actions are
defined from his ancestors, and allows his descents to drown out his uniqueness. Lee s pure
perspective of humanity along with his parental care, and companionship with Cal allow him to
educate Cal about the choice between good and evil. The decision of every human being not only
shows the evilor good of a person or the world, but will determine the flourish or destruction of
the world and humanity. Lee s ability to view humanity as an outsider, and be a moral and

whites [he] was still a Chinese, but an untrustworthy one; and at the same time [his] Chinese
friends steered clear of [him]. [he]] had to give it up (Steinbeck 164). Throughout the story Lee is

The Competitive Landscape Of The Quick Service Restaurant
The Competitive Landscape Companies in the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry
compete mainly on efficient operations and effective marketing. Usually, large companies enjoy
advantages over small companies in terms of purchasing, finance, and marketing. But small
companies can still compete by improving their products and services. The US is the global
QSR market leader, taking 20% of global industry revenues (Hoovers). According to Porter, an
industry has to have sustainable profits for firms to foresee in order to make firms profitable and
successful (Porter, 3). However, according to our research the QSR industry is in danger of
reaching unsustainable profit margins if industry leaders fail to adapt their business practices to
this volatile market. The dining culture has changed over the years as people have become more
aware of healthy eating lifestyle. This trend is expected to continuously dictate future market
demand. Another factor to determine a company s success mentioned by Porter s is industry
positioning (Porter, 1985). The position in the industry is crucial for companies who have
empathies for their customers health. Many of them are not dominant firms in QSR industry and
some of them are emerging in the industry. They need to find the exquisite balance in terms of
market positioning to incept their success. Porter s Five Forces Porter s five forces will have a

must take the measurements of the area roped off, and if there is evidence on the ground or
anywhere, that specialist must make a two point measurement, which means, take two
unmovable objects of that area like a door or an outlet and measure how far they are to the
evidence. The sketcher must also draw everything else in the crime scene in order for the
computer in the forensics lab to get the most accurate measurement. If there is a crime in a
small town that doesn t have a crime scene unit then a detective will have to carry out all these
tasks while also interviewing witnesses and tracking down suspects to solve the crime. For
detectives to get DNA from a person the detective must get a warrant unless they perform this
technique. When detectives are interviewing a suspect but know they don t have enough
evidence to get a warrant for DNA sample the detective can gather evidence from objects the
suspect may have come into contact with in the interview room. When the detective interviews a
suspect they will give the suspect a glass of water hoping that the suspect will drink out of it and
the detective can then send that glass to the forensics and get the DNA tested that is on the glass
and see if it is a match to the crime. Other methods detectives will use is asking the suspect to lick
an envelope closed or offer the suspect a cigarette and get the DNA of the cigarette butt. This
method of obtaining DNA will stand in court because they did not obtain the DNA

Essay on Effects Of Overfishing Atlantic Cod on East Coast...
Overfishing is a global issue that has many negative effects on the environment (Fisheries and
Oceans Canada, 2009). Fish are a major resource that many people rely on for not only nutrition,
but also for a means of income (Fisheries and Oceans Canada, 2009). As the population of the
world increases, so does the demand for fish, which puts oceans under a lot of pressure (Fisheries
and Oceans Canada, 2009). Due to advanced fishing technologies and equipment, going out further
into the oceans and catching huge amounts of fish is easier than ever (Fisheries and Oceans
Canada, 2009). Froese (2004) defines overfishing as capturing the fish before they reach their full
growth potential and diminishing their chance of reproduction. In other... Show more content on

The snow crab population is also increasing (Frank et al., 2005; Scheffer et al., 2005). This
increase has led to the decrease in the large bodied zooplankton species ( 2 mm) because this is
what the shrimp and crab populations prefer to feed off of (Frank et al., 2005; Scheffer et al.,
2005). Now that the zooplankton abundance isn t as high, the phytoplankton population has
increased, which is due to the reduced pressure being put on them by the zooplankton (Frank et
al., 2005; Scheffer et al., 2005). Lastly, the concentration of nitrate is lower, which suggests the
phytoplankton populations are depleting it more strongly (Frank et al., 2005; Scheffer et al.,
2005). These changes in the ecosystem can be quite harmful and can lead to breakouts of
disease in the lower trophic levels because the populations become so dense that they are more
prone to catching a disease (Jackson et al., 2001). As one can see, overfishing is a serious issue
with serious consequences. Froese (2004) suggests three ways to deal with overfishing: Let them
spawn! , Let them grow! , and Let the mega spawners live! . The first idea suggests that the fish
be allowed to spawn at least once before they are caught. This will allow the population to rebuild
and remain healthy (Froese, 2004). The second idea suggests that the fish be allowed to grow to
В±10% of their optimum

Medication Errors Common Type Of Medical Error
Medication errors commonly occur in healthcare facilities. According to the Joint Commission,
these medication errors are believed to be the most common type of medical error and are a
significant cause of preventable adverse events (The Joint Commission, 2008). Many experts agree
with the research that medication errors have the potential to cause harm within the pediatric
population about three times as higher than in the adult population. This is due to medication
dosing errors that are weight based dosing calculations, fractional dosing, and misplacement of the
decimal point that can lead to overdosing or under dosing (The Joint Commission, 2008). Children
are at greater risk than adults for medication errors because they have an immature physiology as
well as developmental limitations that affect their ability to communicate and self administer
medications (The Joint Commission, 2008). Another important factor is that the great majority of
medications are developed in concentrations appropriate for adults; therefore, pediatric indications
and dosage guidelines often aren t included with a medication, necessitating weight based dosing or
dilution (The Joint Commission, 2008). The need to alter the original medication dosage requires a
series of pediatric specific calculations and tasks, each significantly increasing the possibility of
error (The Joint Commission, 2008). Additionally, an observation of safety regulations and
practices by Nemours Children s

Survival Cannibalism In Anthropology
The anthropologist is the act or practice of humans or other species eating organs or the flesh of
their own kind. Cannibalism has been a part of the human culture for so long and resurfacing in
the recent decades. Cannibalism has been reportedly practiced by many different cultures in all
continents on earth. Each of them has separate reasons to why they practiced it. It could be from
psychosexual impulses, relief from stress or they just want to eat humans as food no more no less.
There are many variations on human cannibalism, but the main three are survival cannibalism,
endocannibalism and exocannibalism. Survival cannibalism is the practice of human beings eating
other human beings as a necessity in order to survive. This type of practice

In texts, writers tend to form characters that have comparison and contrast in order for the readers
to see the difference of the characters better. For example in The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, the
boy and the Englishman tend to be alike but simultaneously very different. As for The Fault in Our
Stars by John Green, the two main characters Hazel Grace and Augustus deal with the same
problems but in contrastive ways. A Personal Legend is one s destiny in his or her life. In the book
The Alchemist, the boy named Santiago was on his journey to find his own. Along the way, he met

Augustus on the other hand feared of oblivion, wanted to be remembered, and didn t accept the
fact that death will be the endpoint. This made him live his day to the very fullest every single
day. He treated his parents the same way he did after and before he was diagnosed with cancer.
This was the difference between how Hazel Grace and Augustus had dealt with their sickness.

Essay Slough by Sir John Betjeman
Sir John Betjeman s poem, Slough, opens with a wonderful, dramatic stanza. There is huge tension
between the ideas of cows grazing and the idea of death. Even in the opening line there is conflict
friendly bombs is a contradiction in terms, as bombs are almost never thought of as friendly, and
Betjeman s use of this defines what a bad place. Another tool Betjeman employs is rhythm; the
stanza is at a steady, predefined paceuntil the last line where the rhythm is broken with the word
Death , which gives a powerful image of Slough.
In the second stanza, Betjeman cleverly compares people s minds and breath to tinned products,
giving everything a feeling of sanitised dullness, without fresh air. He also uses the form here, listing

It also has an elegant form.
In the fourth stanza, Betjeman repeats always in the second line which implies the fact that it is
this man s way of life. He also uses this man with double chin as a way of expressing all the
people who have this attitude and life, and the image of washing with women s tears is extremely
effective.
Every line in the next stanza opens with And , which makes it seem rather like a list, a list of the
poet s demands. Indeed the entire stanza is simply stating things which he demands be done to this
man.
The poem changes tack after this: it speaks of sparing clerks. There is tension simply in using the
description bald young . The rhythm again breaks at the harsh phrase They ve tasted Hell .
The next two stanzas continue the description of these bald young clerks . There is a comparison
between birdsong and the radio , two things which would generally be contrasted. In the last two
lines Betjeman introduces a wonderful tranquil image of looking up and seeing the stars, but then
dispels it with the disgusting line But belch instead .
The ninth stanza is a bit like a throwback to the canned breath it speaks of chemicals and synthetic
things. It discusses peroxide hair and painting nails, poking fun at them.
The final stanza concludes the poem. The opening line is the same as the opening line of the first
verse and it reminds us of the aims of this whole poem and of the subject, Slough. It is aiming

Tulsa Race Riots Essay
Tulsa Race Riot
The Tulsa race riot changed the course of American history by actively expressing African
American views on white supremacy. Before the events of the Tulsa race riot African Americans
saw the white community taking justice into their own hands. Black citizens of Tulsa stood up
against this sort of white mob. This escaladed into the Tulsa race riot. The Tulsa race riot and its
effects weighed heavily upon the African Americans of this era.
The first event was with the Industrial Workers of World (IWW), where they were blamed by
Tulsan s in bombing the house of a wealthy oilman. It began on October 29, 1917 , when the home

We got him boys. We ve got him. Belton was then taken to the Jenks road were he then was
lynched by the white mob.
White supremacy in Tulsa during 1917 to 1921 was soaring, white citizen of Tulsa thought with
events of bombing a wealthy oilman home to the killing of a taxi cab driver that they should have

African Americans felt that they would not get equal justice with the law, so African Americans
had to stand together against white supremacy and challenge their authority. Which leads into the
events that start of the Tulsa race riot. Dick Rowland work as a shoe shiner on Main Street. There

New York is: there are many ethical, social, and medical issues surrounding advancements in
science. The following quote supports this theme because it demonstrates to social issues in the
New York political system. The coroners were hand chosen by a city s mayor; typically the mayors

The following quote supports this theme because the discovery of that carbon monoxide cannot be

forensic sciences had started, they were not really taken seriously as evidence in the courtroom.
Often forensic toxicologists were forced to prove themselves to jurors by poisoning cats or
swaying flasks of chloroform in front of them to prove their work. Now, they would be taken
seriously with a testimony and statistics. Through experiments with deceased people and carbon

This connects to biology because you need to be able to inhale carbon monoxide for it to have an

Creon Unjust Analysis
Antigone buries her brother Polynices s corpse, against the decree of Creon, the ruler. She has
several excuses she uses to justify her actions. First, she argues that Creon is unjust and she
should not obey him. Second, she says that the gods are not defied by her actions, since she
believes Creon is not accurately interpreting their wishes. Third, she believes that regardless of his
political standing, her brother deserves a proper burial. Lastly, she says that she must try to bury
Polynices, because it is in her nature to act according to love and not to bear grudges.

Article Rebuttal
Marriage is not about a piece of paper, a ring, or sexual preference. It has never been about any of
these matters, and should not be considered so. Marriage is the commitment between two people
who love each other unconditionally. According to Psychology Today, marriage is the process
by which two people who love each other make their relationship public, official, and permanent
(Psychology Today, 2002) . Anyone can get married, but it takes dedication and work to make a
marriage last and be successful. This paper will specifically discuss an article written by Jan
LaRue, Why Homosexual Marriage Is Wrong and what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In saying this she is being selective to support her argument, and in doing so is being confirmation
biased. Who is to say that homosexuality is more unholy, or wrong, than divorce, adultery, and
lying? Logical Fallacies
The fallacy that was used in this article is false attribution because of the biased attributes in the
argument. For example, saying that marriage has to be limited to only a man and a woman is
not discriminating, yet it clearly is because of the biased feelings of homosexual relationships.
Another type of fallacy that was used is the fallacy of ambiguity; when an abstract belief is
treated as if it were concrete evidence. Religion is not based on scientific concrete evidence, but
merely a belief in something. The Bible has been written and rewritten by man, and has lack of
evidence supporting that there is a God.
Conclusion
Many base their idea of right and wrong on biased conclusions and/or religion. This makes the
issue hard to decipher between who is right and wrong. Biased conclusions do not make the idea
correct. The idea that only a man and a woman can fall in love with each other, and not a man and
a man or a woman and a woman, is based on favoritisms in how someone feels about the issue.
Articles, such as the one above, have the intentions of sharing their beliefs in the hope of others
adopting that particular belief. The question that should be presented is,

Historical Development Of Policing In America Essay
Describe the historical development of policing in America?
In the early days most police officers were once soldiers. There were also groups of citizens that
would join forces to protect themselves.
Our police system derives from the system our ancestors used in England. From this system we
derive concepts of limited police authority, local control, fragmented justice system that began in
Anglo Saxon England continued until 19th century. In this system, community was divided into
groups of 10 men who were responsible for ensuring that conduct of group was appropriate; if any

Ir The Enemy Of My Enemy
Iran: The Enemy of My Enemy
The United States and Iran have one of the most complicated diplomatic relationships in the world.
In its desperate hunt for oil in the mid to late 20th century, the US government tried to secure its
interests in the oil rich Middle Eastern states, in some cases, creating wars and problems that have
lasted decades. In 1953, the CIA helped overthrow Iran s democratically elected Prime Minister,
Mohammed Mossadeq, and replaced him with Shah Reza Pahlavi, who supported American oil
interests in Iran. In 1979, the Iranian people overcame the Shah, and in response, the US, UN, and
other western countries, imposed multiple sanctions against Iran, deeply hurting the country s
economy and people. Now though, more than 30 years later, the US and Iran may be brought
together by a common enemy of ISIS; an Islamic militant group based in Northern Iraq and Syria,
that has been violently attacking Westerners, and people of religions other than Sunni Muslim.
The US should take this opportunity to mend diplomatic relations with Iran, because Iran cannot
singularly be blamed for the actions that caused a cooling of relations. The present association
and mutuality of the two countries is rare, and Iran can help America s interests in the Middle
East. Firstly, it is important to understand the history of the American imprint in Iran. US backed
leader Mohammed Reza Pahlavi reigned from 1941 to 1979, apart from a brief stint in the early
1950s ( US Iran ). In 1950

privatization, which is defined as any shift of activity or functions from the state to the private

Like most public agencies, DPSS operates under the elite model of organizational structure. This
structure dictates that formal rules and process are followed in order to reach the organization s
goals. Therefore, in order to effectively contract out and maintain and effective organization,
management must engage in the practice of well known management principles (POSDCORB).
Practicing the principles of planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating, reporting, and
budgeting, management can make sound decisions about the implementation and management of
contracts. The effectiveness and efficiency in which the agency is run and the manner in which the
contract is managed is grounded in the effective practice of these principles.
In this research paper I will discuss the process of contracting out, issues of cost, credibility,
accountability, and quality and quantity of services. My discussion will also include reasons for
contracting out, opposition, and advantages and problems of contracting out.
REASONS FOR CONTRACTING OUT
Research indicates that there are several valid reasons for contracting out:
To obtain special skills or supplemental staff.
To meet demands beyond current government capacity.
To improve service quality.
To provide clients with more choice of providers and levels of service. (Nightingale

American Funding Of Nazi Eugenics
American Funding of Nazi Eugenics
Eugenics is a complex term that has been studied and discussed internationally and throughout the
eras. A basic definition of eugenics is the scientific study of race improvement. The definition is
then broken up into two different aspects, positive eugenics and negative eugenics. Positive
eugenics is defined as improving a race by focusing on ways to increasing the better population.
Incentives are given to those superior races or populations to have children and get married. On
the other hand negative eugenics is decreasing the chances of the inferior race or population
from having children. This type of negatives eugenics is trying to stop those who are determined
on having inferior genes from passing on their inferior traits that would corrupt the population as
a whole. The whole study of eugenics is based on the theory that the gene a person is born with
determines their outcome in life. Using this theory some scientists are given a way to justify
categorizing groups of people into superior or inferior classes based on race. The study of eugenics
was discussed around the world having the main powers being in Great Britain, Germany, and the
United States.

of disease (WHO, 2000). Effective and efficient implementation of national and local policies can
reverse this trend. Indeed, the world press (2008) opined that a critical challenge for countries in
Africa is to move from policy to action in the health service delivery. This move from policy to

There are many different form of trust that can expand our expectations and deepen our views.
The trust you have with your parents may be very similar for the trust you have with your
siblings. As a young child you mainly only trust your parents, who provides you with food,
shelter, clothing and extra wants. As a child you are helpless, leaving your trust in your parents,
to provide you with basic needs to be healthy, is what I believe the child s first trust instinct is.
Next, as you get older and begin play with your siblings, you start to rely on them to keep you
safe. You trust that they will keep you out of the street, when you are playing in the front yard or
not let you get lost in the grocery store while your parents are shopping. You trust your siblings
just as much as your parents to provide you with safety, fun and needs. Then, you experience trust
with your friends. This can be shown by relying on each other, keeping each other safe and
believing that they will be there for you when you need it most. As you grow older, trust grows to
new expectations forcing you to constantly learn. The different types of trust we experiences
teaches us different life lessons that stays with us forever. Throughout our lives, everyone wants to

Ivan Pavlov s Classical Conditioning
As the 19th century came to a close, the studies of psychology were just beginning. Ivan Pavlov
opened the door to the idea of classical conditioning with his tests on salivating dogs. The
discoveries brought light to the way both animal and human minds work regarding associative
learning. After Pavlov s experiment, many more experiments came after. Even today Pavlov s
findings are so apparent it seems the idea of associative learning and conditioning of animals seems
to be common sense. Today there is a lot of speculation with ethics when it comes to psychology
and although other experiments built off Pavlov weremorally questionable, these were not the
intentions of Pavlov.
In the 1890 s Ivan Pavlov, a Russian physiologist began a study involving the relationship between
an unconditioned stimulus, an unconditioned response, and a conditioned stimulus. The results
Pavlov found showed how a neutral stimulus becomes a conditioned stimulus once it becomes
associated with the unconditioned stimulus (McLeod). In this particular experiment, Pavlov
studied how much a dog would salivate as he associated the ringing of a bell with food. It is a dog
s instinct to salivate when it sees food and not something a dog learns to do, making salivating an
unconditioned response to seeing food, an unconditioned stimulus. Pavlov first measured the
amount his dogs would salivate when food was put in front of them. From that point he would ring
a bell whenever he would feed the dogs, introducing

Communication, Language, And Speech Skills
Mrs. Moore has the children do group activities, partner activities, and use their words when
something goes wrong, which are all ways to help develop communication, language, and speech
skills. Parents can continue to help these skills develop at home by talking to their children,
teaching them new words, and having them use their own words to ask for something. Overall,
Addison s communication, language, and speech skills are almost where they need to be and
parents need to focus on her using her words when something goes wrong and having her use more
complete sentences.
Cognitive development is the process of developing intelligence, problem solving skills, and
advanced thought. Addison has showed that she is in the proper state of cognitive development for
her age. On two occasions she has shown she can name and identify eight colors. On April 5, during

May 3, at playdough during the flower unit, she identified, when asked what color they were, a
yellow stone, a blue stone, a green stone, an orange stone, pink playdough, and purple playdough.

Compared to the British East India Company, the Chinese state had total control of the tea industry within Qing China. The British East India Company had several differences and several ... Over the last decade, while the U.S. based Eastman Kodak Company was sleeping, the Japanese firm Fuji Photo Film opened its first film production plant in the U.S., cut prices, marketed aggressively and stole valuable market share. The inroads that Fuji has made in the U.S. market will certainly continue their momentum. They (Kodak) are competing against an extremely determined, extremely proficient and extremely well financed company in Fuji, says Michael Ellman, who tracks Kodak for Schroder Company.3 What then, begs the question, is Kodak to do? The Pros And Cons Of Blue-Sky Research By blue sky research, Sir John Vane means researching and spending time partaking in activities that a person is genuinely interested in, not wasting time on activities with a goal of reaching an end product or result. Rather than using research as a means of self indulgence, Sir John Vane uses the notion of blue sky research to instead participate in what one is interested in. Advantages to blue sky research include the development of Bayeraspirinand its effects on society today. Through genuine interest, Felix Hoffman was able to stumble upon the creation of aspirin, something beneficial to millions today. Ian Frazier connects blue sky research to playing in the woods with an explanation of marginal activities. Marginal activities are activities that certain members of society, depending on their place or age, participate in with genuine interest and enjoyment. For example, an adult would not be seen playing in the woods, as opposed to a child. Inversely, a child would not be seen studying about the stock exchange. With these supposed cultural constructs, Ian Frazier reminisces about when he would play in the woods with genuine interest and satisfaction. Ian Frazier s marginal activity connects to Sir John Vane s blue sky research through the fact that both include genuine, satisfying activities that enrich the community. As explained in Sir John Vane s essay, Blue Sky Research, such research [holds] great promise for the community, helping reverse today s urgency to show a return, (346). Because of Frazier s enjoyment, playing in the woods was not a rushed activity, connecting to blue sky research and helping push Sir John Vane s philosophy. I agree that without such research, society would indeed be poorer, as would be our health. Blue sky research is needed for the betterment of society today. Without a genuine interest or satisfaction in an activity, one would not have a place or fit in society. • 17. Essay on Effects Of Overfishing Atlantic Cod on East Coast... Overfishing is a global issue that has many negative effects on the environment (Fisheries and Oceans Canada, 2009). Fish are a major resource that many people rely on for not only nutrition, but also for a means of income (Fisheries and Oceans Canada, 2009). As the population of the world increases, so does the demand for fish, which puts oceans under a lot of pressure (Fisheries and Oceans Canada, 2009). Due to advanced fishing technologies and equipment, going out further into the oceans and catching huge amounts of fish is easier than ever (Fisheries and Oceans Canada, 2009). Froese (2004) defines overfishing as capturing the fish before they reach their full growth potential and diminishing their chance of reproduction. In other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The snow crab population is also increasing (Frank et al., 2005; Scheffer et al., 2005). This increase has led to the decrease in the large bodied zooplankton species ( 2 mm) because this is what the shrimp and crab populations prefer to feed off of (Frank et al., 2005; Scheffer et al., 2005). Now that the zooplankton abundance isn t as high, the phytoplankton population has increased, which is due to the reduced pressure being put on them by the zooplankton (Frank et al., 2005; Scheffer et al., 2005). Lastly, the concentration of nitrate is lower, which suggests the phytoplankton populations are depleting it more strongly (Frank et al., 2005; Scheffer et al., 2005). These changes in the ecosystem can be quite harmful and can lead to breakouts of disease in the lower trophic levels because the populations become so dense that they are more prone to catching a disease (Jackson et al., 2001). As one can see, overfishing is a serious issue with serious consequences. Froese (2004) suggests three ways to deal with overfishing: Let them spawn! , Let them grow! , and Let the mega spawners live! . The first idea suggests that the fish be allowed to spawn at least once before they are caught. This will allow the population to rebuild and remain healthy (Froese, 2004). According to the Joint Commission, these medication errors are believed to be the most common type of medical error and are a significant cause of preventable adverse events (The Joint Commission, 2008). Many experts agree with the research that medication errors have the potential to cause harm within the pediatric population about three times as higher than in the adult population. This is due to medication dosing errors that are weight based dosing calculations, fractional dosing, and misplacement of the decimal point that can lead to overdosing or under dosing (The Joint Commission, 2008). Children are at greater risk than adults for medication errors because they have an immature physiology as well as developmental limitations that affect their ability to communicate and self administer medications (The Joint Commission, 2008). Another important factor is that the great majority of medications are developed in concentrations appropriate for adults; therefore, pediatric indications and dosage guidelines often aren t included with a medication, necessitating weight based dosing or dilution (The Joint Commission, 2008). The need to alter the original medication dosage requires a series of pediatric specific calculations and tasks, each significantly increasing the possibility of error (The Joint Commission, 2008). Every line in the next stanza opens with And , which makes it seem rather like a list, a list of the poet s demands. Indeed the entire stanza is simply stating things which he demands be done to this man. The poem changes tack after this: it speaks of sparing clerks. There is tension simply in using the description bald young . The rhythm again breaks at the harsh phrase They ve tasted Hell . The next two stanzas continue the description of these bald young clerks . There is a comparison between birdsong and the radio , two things which would generally be contrasted. In the last two lines Betjeman introduces a wonderful tranquil image of looking up and seeing the stars, but then dispels it with the disgusting line But belch instead . The ninth stanza is a bit like a throwback to the canned breath it speaks of chemicals and synthetic things. It discusses peroxide hair and painting nails, poking fun at them. Slack BCOM/275 February 17, 2014 Rod Klein Article Rebuttal Marriage is not about a piece of paper, a ring, or sexual preference. It has never been about any of these matters, and should not be considered so. Marriage is the commitment between two people who love each other unconditionally. According to Psychology Today, marriage is the process by which two people who love each other make their relationship public, official, and permanent (Psychology Today, 2002) . In saying this she is being selective to support her argument, and in doing so is being confirmation biased. Who is to say that homosexuality is more unholy, or wrong, than divorce, adultery, and lying? Logical Fallacies The fallacy that was used in this article is false attribution because of the biased attributes in the argument. For example, saying that marriage has to be limited to only a man and a woman is not discriminating, yet it clearly is because of the biased feelings of homosexual relationships. Another type of fallacy that was used is the fallacy of ambiguity; when an abstract belief is treated as if it were concrete evidence. Religion is not based on scientific concrete evidence, but merely a belief in something. The Bible has been written and rewritten by man, and has lack of evidence supporting that there is a God. Conclusion Many base their idea of right and wrong on biased conclusions and/or religion. This makes the issue hard to decipher between who is right and wrong. Biased conclusions do not make the idea correct. The idea that only a man and a woman can fall in love with each other, and not a man and a man or a woman and a woman, is based on favoritisms in how someone feels about the issue. Articles, such as the one above, have the intentions of sharing their beliefs in the hope of others adopting that particular belief. The question that should be presented is, ... • 32. Ir The Enemy Of My Enemy Iran: The Enemy of My Enemy The United States and Iran have one of the most complicated diplomatic relationships in the world. In its desperate hunt for oil in the mid to late 20th century, the US government tried to secure its interests in the oil rich Middle Eastern states, in some cases, creating wars and problems that have lasted decades. In 1953, the CIA helped overthrow Iran s democratically elected Prime Minister, Mohammed Mossadeq, and replaced him with Shah Reza Pahlavi, who supported American oil interests in Iran. In 1979, the Iranian people overcame the Shah, and in response, the US, UN, and other western countries, imposed multiple sanctions against Iran, deeply hurting the country s economy and people. Now though, more than 30 years later, the US and Iran may be brought together by a common enemy of ISIS; an Islamic militant group based in Northern Iraq and Syria, that has been violently attacking Westerners, and people of religions other than Sunni Muslim. The US should take this opportunity to mend diplomatic relations with Iran, because Iran cannot singularly be blamed for the actions that caused a cooling of relations. The present association and mutuality of the two countries is rare, and Iran can help America s interests in the Middle East. • 37. American Funding Of Nazi Eugenics American Funding of Nazi Eugenics Eugenics is a complex term that has been studied and discussed internationally and throughout the eras. A basic definition of eugenics is the scientific study of race improvement. The definition is then broken up into two different aspects, positive eugenics and negative eugenics. Positive eugenics is defined as improving a race by focusing on ways to increasing the better population. Incentives are given to those superior races or populations to have children and get married. On the other hand negative eugenics is decreasing the chances of the inferior race or population from having children. This type of negatives eugenics is trying to stop those who are determined on having inferior genes from passing on their inferior traits that would corrupt the population as a whole. The whole study of eugenics is based on the theory that the gene a person is born with determines their outcome in life. Using this theory some scientists are given a way to justify categorizing groups of people into superior or inferior classes based on race. • 40. Ivan Pavlov s Classical Conditioning As the 19th century came to a close, the studies of psychology were just beginning. Ivan Pavlov opened the door to the idea of classical conditioning with his tests on salivating dogs. The discoveries brought light to the way both animal and human minds work regarding associative learning. After Pavlov s experiment, many more experiments came after. Even today Pavlov s findings are so apparent it seems the idea of associative learning and conditioning of animals seems to be common sense. Today there is a lot of speculation with ethics when it comes to psychology and although other experiments built off Pavlov weremorally questionable, these were not the intentions of Pavlov. In the 1890 s Ivan Pavlov, a Russian physiologist began a study involving the relationship between an unconditioned stimulus, an unconditioned response, and a conditioned stimulus. The results Pavlov found showed how a neutral stimulus becomes a conditioned stimulus once it becomes associated with the unconditioned stimulus (McLeod). In this particular experiment, Pavlov studied how much a dog would salivate as he associated the ringing of a bell with food. It is a dog s instinct to salivate when it sees food and not something a dog learns to do, making salivating an unconditioned response to seeing food, an unconditioned stimulus. Pavlov first measured the amount his dogs would salivate when food was put in front of them. From that point he would ring a bell whenever he would feed the dogs, introducing ...
