Olga Beregovaya, CEO Americas, PROMT PROMT's approach to engine hybridization differs from many other companies’ technology, using statistical methods on every stage of translation process: pre-editing, transfer and post-editing. The hybrid engine defines syntactic, lexical and grammar choices on an “atomic” level, rather than processing complete translated sentences. Nowadays everyone knows that output from neural machine translation engines has been improved compared with the RBMT or SMT engines. With this technical innovation, localization requirements from clients have become higher in terms of quality and turnaround time. In the meantime, post-editors are struggling with MT outputs to brush up translations. One of the pain-points in NMT is inconsistent word choices. So post-editors pay attention to apply correct terms. However, thanks to customizable MT engines, this issue may be solved in the near future. But, will the stylistic issue also be solved by customizable MT engines? For Japanese translation, there are lots of rules in the style guide compared to other languages. In addition, these guides vary a lot from product to product, and from client to client, so the stylistic errors which made by NMT and the complex style rules are pain-points for Japanese post-editors as well. Though glossary issue has been a hot topic in NMT for a long time, it seems that these kinds of stylistic issues have not been deeply discussed. In this presentation, we will share what we are doing to address this big challenge to support post-editors for improving their productivity.

Online machine translation services offer affordable, high-quality translations. Translation providers want to use the best MT for their customers and freelancers. However, it is difficult to evaluate of black-box, ever changing MT services. In this talk I discussed best practices how to efficiently conduct an evaluation of MT services for the language pairs and content you care about. I introduced the MT Decider Benchmark – a vendor-independent, transparent evaluation of 4 major online MT services for 24 language pairs.
