A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Student Name and Unique Learner Number:

Project proposal title and date:
Notion Clothing
Main area of activity:
Graphic Design and Photography
Rationale:
This year I have made a variety of different things such as a music video, an adventure game- a
film poster and magazine to go with it. From creating these I have developed further knowledge on
the apps photoshop and premiere pro which I hadn’t used before starting York College. I will use
these skills I have learned and put them to use when creating my final project, specifically
photoshop as I will be creating my magazine for my clothing brand on that app and using the
different tools to edit my photos in many ways that I have learnt from messing around with the app
and practising or YouTube tutorials.
Project Concept:
The concept of my project is that I will be designing my own logo and printing it onto clothing and
advertising the brand through social media and creating posters on photoshop to advertise the
product. I will also be photographing models in the clothing to go onto the posters. The research I
will have to conduct is finding a place where I can get my design, I draw printed onto a shirt and
research the prices of this. I will also have to research different fonts and do many drafts to see
what I prefer and what looks the best with the logo and colours I choose. I will also have to figure
out what vibe I want and where I want to photograph the models wearing the clothing and the
different locations. By researching similar existing products this will help me gather an idea for how
I want my final project to look as they give me inspiration and is something I am interested in. For
the way I want my photographs to look I researched into different cameras that give you the old
school look and I learnt that a disposable camera is the cheapest alternative for what I want to
achieve so I will buy this to favour what I want.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed: 50 words approx.
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation (Production
Reflections) and your final self-reflection (Evaluation), analysing your work and its outcomes.
How will this process help developing your working practices as you continue with your
study/media career?
