2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Project proposal title and date:
Aylien’s Castle 22/03/2022
Main area of activity:
The primary areas of activity will be video, graphic design and photography.
Rationale:
In my 2 years at college I have made two music videos, a video game, a documentary, and a
fashion video. The skills that I developed in these 2 years have been to develop my progress with
software such as Premier Pro, Photoshop and Aftereffects. I have also learnt how to create
different effects and how to incorporate a style into videos. An example I particularly like to use in
creative projects is the ‘paper rip effect’, as well as making animatics on Aftereffects to make my
images slightly move and come to life. The skills that I have learnt in Photoshop are graphic design
work for example when developing sprites for my game as well as making the background of the
levels. I also created the advertisement to the designs of the characters which were made in the
pixel art style. The skills I developed in Aftereffects were motion graphics of logos. I did this by
creating a light source to affect the gradient as the logo spins. I then copied the logo behind itself
to create a 3D look. These skills will help me in my project; the video and graphic elements are a
big part of the project and by incorporating the skills into my work it will make the project better. In
addition I can also refine these skills and learn new ones whilst doing the project.
Project Concept:
The concept of my project is an online fashion distributor like ASOS promotional content. The
name of the brand is Aylien’s Castle. The business structure for the company is an online fashion
retailer. The brand will have a lot of different styles of brands that sell their clothes on my website. I
will be making videos showing assorted styles and how wide the range of clothes are. I will be
creating different aesthetics and looks on each of these videos to matching the clothing. The
clothes will be worn by a model with the music to accompany it. I will also take pictures of my
models in their respective styles and will make these into social media posts and posters. The
research that I will need to conduct is looking at fashion brands and what inspires them to make
their clothes. I also look at directors of music videos, fashion advertisements as well as fashion
designers, who have influenced the “culture.” I will research into brands like Missing Since
Thursday, the influences on the brand and how they stylize their videos and images. I will also look
at brands like GOLF WANG and the general themes, they carry through there media for each
collection. In addition I will observe how to keep the aesthetic consistent throughout the products,
along with seasonal looks and styles; such as coats, shorts, trousers, boots and trainers which are
worn depending on the season and collections style. Other research I will need to conduct will be
looking at online clothing brands promotional content and how they make it appeal to their target
audience through the styling and editing of their videos. My target audience is 16–24-year-old
males who are interested in fashion. The audience I have chosen will like a wide range of clothing
styles. I have used two, quite distinctive, styles and looks. These styles will be able to blend which
will make the brand, and look, more appealing to a wider audience because of the range of styles
in between.

Week Tasks to be Completed: Specific Tasks
1 Pre-production Proposal and background research
Looking at fashion designers, directors, and
artists
2 Pre-production Research- primary and secondary
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed?
I plan to evaluate the work through self-reflection at the end of each production day using a
production diary. I also plan to use peer reflection and final self-reflection which will be taking the
other evaluations into consideration to create my final evaluation. These reflections will help me to
improve my work in the process and will also help me in future projects by helping me understand
what went right and wrong, which help me to avoid potential issues in the future. It will teach me
what went right and how I can replicate those pros in the future. I will also do audience feedback
which will be shown to my target audience 16–24-year-old males that are not in my class to see
what they think about the work, as well as showing to the public and seeing how a wide range of
people will respond, even people outside of my target audience.
