Chiropractic, Osteopathy, Physiotherapy
CHIROPRACTIC, OSEOPATHY, PHYSIOTHERAPY
There are many health care facilities worldwide that provide treatment for an injured patient for all
ages. Some professions are easily mistaken due to their philosophies and type of treatment.
Professions that are commonly mistaken are Chiropractic, Osteopathy, and Physiotherapy. The
purpose of this essay is to distinctly differentiate between the three professions to both increase my
own knowledge and the knowledge of others.
Chiropractic is a form of health care that predominantly focuses on the relationships of structures
(mainly the spine and pelvis) and its functions (mainly the nervous system). (10) The main focus is to
treat a patient without the use of drugs or surgery and to also have ... Show more content on

Both the professions of Chiropractic and Physiotherapy are manual therapy which requires a lot of
hands on treatment. They re both holistic, specified treatments focusing on musculoskeletal injuries.
Through achieving this in both professions, it allows the patient to maximise the mobility of the
injured site and enhance their quality of life. (9) Another similarity is that both professions use
medical machinery to assess the state of the injury before treatment. For instance, a Chiropractor will
look at x ray films to assess the nature of the condition before they start manipulating and adjusting.
Similarly, a Physiotherapist may also use x rays and/or ultrasound films to assess the nature of the
injury before massaging. There aren t many similarities between Chiropractic and Physiotherapy as
their philosophies are different. Chiropractic is mainly to treat a patient through the manipulation of
the spinal vertebras whereas Physiotherapy focuses on using other modalities to treat a patient.(8)
Some modalities that Physiotherapists may use are heat therapy, cold therapy, massage therapy
(mainly used), and exercise therapy. Unlike chiropractic where it mainly focuses on the spine to treat
an injury, physiotherapy focuses on stabilising the injury itself to prevent further injury through means
such as medical sports tape (not always necessary). Through these forms of therapeutic treatment it
allows the individual to move independently without

Early History Of Human Overpopulation
Overpopulation of Humans
Within the early history of the human race, the earth was titanic and appeared boundless. Its resources
seemed limitless. Then as the humans traveled away from home, the world got smaller and most of the
world was recorded onto maps. Soon, the numbers of people were growing and the world and its
natural resources looked as if it was shrinking. The overpopulation of an creature is dangerous to any
environment, but with humans its deadly for the whole world.
In biology, it states that when life is pleasurable and resources are abundant, life will begin to grow
exponentially until space and food become scarce. At that moment the population of whatever creature
will even out and remain stable. However, in nature, land and resources are limited, so all forms of life
are in a constantly competing for survival. Adaptability and evolution helps the lucky certain creatures
with new skills or traits that will aid them to become fit and reproduce. With the early humans, their
numbers began to grow dramatically due to their involvement in agriculture to produce their own food
in vast amounts. Then, as man s tools and farming techniques were developed to produce more food,
the human population grew dramatically, again. This allowed a civilization to trade ... Show more

Analysis Of The Film The Fountain
The Fountain by Darren Aronofsky is a film that depicts Tommy s Denial towards death. This film is
the journey of one man in his past, present, and future. In the film, Tommy has a very stubborn
mindset; he believes that death is a disease and that there is a cure for every disease. On the other
hand, Izzi, Tommy s wife is very accepting towards the thought of death and her intentions are to
prove to Tommy that death is not as bad as it may seem. As the film progresses, Tommy s acceptance
towards death begins to gradually increase.
Thomas is seen in the past where the guardian of the tree stabs him as he mentions death is the road to
awe The film the continues with Tommy in the future ingesting a piece of the tree of life. Izzi then is
seen asking Tommy to go with her but Tommy chooses his job over Izzi. During this time Tommy s
ring appears to go missing. In the process of Donovan s surgery Tommy uses a piece of the tree of life
in attempt of curing Donovan. In the past Isabel gives Thomas the ring as a promise to her if Thomas
finds the tree of life to save Spain.
Izzi then shows Tommy a nebula wrapped around a dying star. Mayans call it Shibalba, it represents
their underworld. Izzi finds it fascinating that mayans choose a dying star as their underworld, once
the nebula explodes it will create stars. This rises the statement of death is an act of creation. At this
time Izzi begins to tell Tommy about the story of the first father and how he sacrificed himself

Should Homework Be Allowed In Schools Essay
Kylie drops her backpack on the floor with a thump, and runs to change her clothes. I m home, she
calls to her mom, grabbing a quick snack before running over to her friend Emily s house next door.
Kylie is an example of many students across the country whose schools have begun to implement a
new policy of no homework. The policy encourages children to spend their free time with their family.
The only homework that a child is given is the material that they did not finish during class time. This
leads to the question. Should elementary schools assign homework to children? Children in
elementary schools should not be assigned homework because children are now allowed to pursue
interests and spend time with their family, homework is often repetitive and time consuming, and
homework can leave stress and burden on both parents and children.
Firstly, children can now pursue other interests and spend quality time with their family. Kids are the
futures of the generation. They need to be able to learn, explore, grow, and have fun instead of slaving
over a pile of homework. Parent Jason Sapan states that, It takes the joy out of kids who are
exceptional, and overwhelms those who are struggling. (New York Times) For decades, the homework
standard was that the maximum amount of homework per grade level was 10 minutes and it would
increase as children graduated a grade. For example, if a child was in 2nd grade, he or she would
receive 20 minutes of homework. But now,

Imperialism, The Middle East, And East Asia
Large busy markets, snake charmers, carpet vendors, and veiled women all invoke ideas of West
Africa, the Middle East, and West Asia, but all these ideas come from Oriental fantasies from the
nineteenth century. Edward Said the author of Orientalism said that Orientalism was ultimately a
political vision of reality whose structure promoted the difference between the familiar (Europe, West,
us ) and the strange (the Orient, the East, them ). The nineteenth century was a period of imperialism
and tourism that led many western artists to visit West Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Orientalist
paintings depicted two major effects, many artists often portrayed something exotic, which was
racialized, feminized, and from a sexualized culture from a faraway land. Another effect that artists
mainly like Jean Léon Gérôme often showed was an authentic glimpse of a location and its
inhabitants. Nochlin mentioned that many of Gérôme s paintings worked to persuade their audiences
by carefully representing a preexisting Oriental reality. Imperialism is a policy or practice by which a
country increases its power by gaining control over other areas of the world. French orientalist
paintings in the nineteenth century were intended as propaganda in support of French imperialism,
portraying the East as a place of backwardness, lawlessness, and savagery enlightened and disciplined
by French rule. The emphasis on military brutality in numerous Oriental subjects by

American Culture In Kenya
Kenya is located in southern Africa and included as one of countries in the Horn of Africa. The word
Kenya brings to mind African safaris with elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, and rhinoceros roaming the
Serengeti with the sun setting on the horizon, great running athletes, beautifully carved masks, and
ethnic people dressed in bright costumes while engaged in chants and dance to the beat of African
drums. It presents itself as picturesque, happy, peaceful, and one can almost hear the music from The
Lion King. Some of that is very true; however, Kenya has some complex interactions taking place and
some challenges to overcome.

The Maasai and Samburu have remained two of the few cohesive and culturally authentic ethnic tribes
of Kenya and have resisted any type of modernization (Kenya tribes 2015). These two tribes, in
particular, attract tourists because of their authenticity. In Kenya, there are many different tribes, each
with different beliefs and cultural values (Guide to Kenya etiquette, customs, culture, and business,
2014). In order to flourish as a nation, all of these various tribes with their own set of traditions and
values are brought together, or integrated, to form a new, multicultural society (What does integration
mean and why is it important, 2010). The symbolism of Kenya lies in the power of its flag. The flag
represents unity among the people of the country and strength as a whole.
The Kenyan flag has three horizontal stripes red, black and green separated by thin white bands. The
black symbolizes the people of Kenya, the red stands for the blood shed in the fight for independence,
and the green symbolizes agriculture. In the center of the flag is a red shield with black and white
markings and two crossed spears, which stands for vigilance in the defense of freedom. (Stanford,
2006)

Resilience Across Lifespan
Resilience across a lifespan can happen different ways from physical development to cognitive
development. We also have social and emotional development. Throughout this paper resilience will
be applied to all of the above mentioned concepts. Resilience across a lifespan is described through
theories, measures, and even personality characteristics. Resilience has also been applied to the
impacts of disasters and traumatic experiences in which will also be touched on throughout this paper.
Resilience is described as the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy,
threats, or significant sources of stress (American Psychological Association, 2016). Resilience is an
ordinary thing in human beings. It is often described as bouncing back, which refers to bouncing back
from difficult times or situations. As a person grows older resilience grows as well. A person s past
can most certainly affect how a person uses resiliency in the present. If a person is not affected
negatively a lot in their past when it comes time for a person to bounce back, they will not bounce
back as smoothly as a person who has had a very traumatic past and has learned how to bounce back
in a smoother fashion. A person s past determines their resiliency in the present and a person s present
determines their resiliency efforts in the future. Resiliency is different for each and every person.
Resiliency also can grow with a person or can dissipate

Essay on Two Research Studies into Animal Navigation
Two Research Studies into Animal Navigation
Keeton conducted a study regarding the ability of pigeon s to navigate. It was suggested that pigeons
are able to detect the earth s magnetic field, and therefore navigate with this aid. An experiment
carried out to explore this possibility. Small magnets were attached to the heads of pigeons which
were then released in unfamiliar surroundings. The magnets were designed to disrupt any detection of
the earth s magnetic field. The pigeon s ability to find it s way back to it s home loft was then
observed. It was found that the pigeons had difficulty returning home on overcast days, but had very
little difficultly doing so on clear, sunny days. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These butterflies were found to be headed in a different direction to the original butterflies. Their path
s were at a 90 degree angle from the path s of the normal butterflies. This suggested that the butterflies
headed in a certain direction according to where they believe the sun should be for the time of day
they believed it to be. It was also found that the butterflies did not respond to changes in magnetic
fields suggesting that their primary compass system is based on the sun.
b) Assess what these studies can tell us about homing and/or migration.
Both studies suggest that animals do not necessarily use just one method to navigate. Keeton s studies
shows pigeon s to use both magnetic field and the sun depending on the weather condition. This
demonstrates that animals are able to adapt their navigational strategy accordingly as it is essential for
survival. However, in Mouritsen and Frost s experiment, it was suggested that butterflies only utilise
one strategy of navigation; the sun. Even in cloudy conditions butterflies are said to use patterns of
polarised light visible through the clouds. In this case, the idea that animals adapt to different weather
conditions cannot be put forward. The butterflies were able to navigate their direction even when the
sun was not actually present. This puts forward the idea that animals do not necessarily

Examples Of Inhumanity In Tuesdays With Morrie
Where would the world be without humanity? Would it be laying in ruins because of needless wars
fought? Perhaps there would be a so called master race that exterminated any person that slightly
deviated from what was deemed perfect. Maybe there would be no more humans left at all. Humanity
binds the human race together. The caring for other people and not just thinking about yourself. The
word is humanity, and the root of that is human. This concept is central to all our beliefs. Just like a
coin though, there is a flip side. Inhumanity, when humans do not act like regular humans. To be
described as inhuman a person has to be extremely nefarious. These people that commit inhuman acts
upon others are treated as monsters, and by all rights are monsters. Both of the books we read this
semester dealt with humanity and inhumanity. Although one book clearly had a lot more inhumanity
in it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the nervous system. Mitch is very upset about Morrie dieing. Morrie taught Mitch a lot about life and

dying slowly and painfully, Morrie is staying positive. On one occasion Morrie tells Mitch that in the
mornings is when Morrie mourns. Morrie mourns the insidious disease and mourns what is lost. After
that Morrie cries if needed, and thinks about all the good things still left in life(Albom 57). This is
exactly how to balance inhumanity and humanity. People must always look at the good in every
situation. In Night the characters tried to stay positive just as Morrie is trying to. Morrie once said,
make peace with living (173). Morrie was content in dying and held no unrealistic beliefs. Mitch

A Brief Story of My Life
My story is one that starts before birth. After all I was born in 30 weeks. My mom(Bella), had a
difficult pregnancy. At 5 months and half Bella started bleeding. The doctor s found out that she had
full placenta praevia. Full placenta praevia is complication in which the placenta is inserted partially
or wholly in lower uterine segment. This blocks the baby to be born naturally and causes the mother
bleeding. Bella would bleed every day and was in the emergency room five times because of the
constant bleeding. The fifth and final time Bella fainted and found herself in the hospital. The doctors

Continuing with childhood actions I was outspoken and had a bad temper. I always had something to
say and when I was upset I would throw my bottles at innocent civilians. If you did not get out of the
way the, I aimed well, so the bottle would hit them in the face. I was in time out and spanked
numerous of times. My Great aunt, Tia Dora, whom we call Yaya babysat me for most of my
childhood before pre K. One time she cooked for me like she always did, but I didn t like it. I knocked
the food off the table and onto the floor. Another time while being babysat Yaya left on a quick errand.
My great grandmother, her mom(Kuki) was in charge of watching me. She didn t let me do something
so I was furious at her. Kuki had a fake plant that she adored because a grandson gave it to her. Since,
we were on the second floor of a two story house I threw the plant off the balcony and it broke. Kuki
did not know that the plant was broken so my great uncle(Tio Paco) bought a new one as if nothing
happened. Bella says I was sweet despite my actions during the terrible twos. When Bella would not
feel well I would check on her, I wanted to know if she was fine. Winnie the Pooh is my favorite
stuffed animal. Pastora Amanda, gave Pooh Bear to me for my 1st birth day. I still have Pooh Bear
with me. He is currently on the second shelf above my desk in my room on campus. Pooh Bear and I
have been through everything together. We have a ceiling fan in my room at home.

Reflective Essay On Social Work
As a senior, I thought this was the perfect time to get an in depth look at a career field that I was
considering. The main reason I decided to take a career internship was to be exposed to a side of
business that I had not been previously and to see if it is something I may want to pursue. The spring
semester included interning at the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce
is located on East Market Street in Elkin, North Carolina. The time of the internship period was mid
day from 11:30 A.M to 1:00 P.M. This time frame allowed me to be exposed to many lunch meetings
that took place. My mentor, Myra Cook, is the president of the Chamber of Commerce. Her role is to
help businesses succeed and to promote them to the town of Elkin. At the Yadkin Valley Chamber of
Commerce, many valuable skills were learned such as: filing, how to make contacts with different
businesses, and planning different community events. In the future, I want to major in non profit
management and social work with hopes of opening my own non profit someday. My non profit
organization would focus on teaching people who did not receive a proper education learn job and
interview skills and help them enter the workforce.
When first arriving at the Chamber of Commerce, the first thing that is done is filing the new
paperwork, bills, and receipts. Throughout the day, typical duties include answering phone calls and
helping travellers that come in to the chamber. These travellers typically ask

How Did The Black Death Affect Europe
The condition that Europe was in before the Black Death struck was ultimately one of the main
reasons for the disease s quick spreading. One bad condition that helped to make the Black Death even
more deadly was the population boom of Europe in the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Centuries (Kagan et
al. 292). Another pre existing condition that hurt the health of Europe was the multiple famines that
would come to be known at the Great Famine (Kagan et al. 292). The last cause of the Black Death
being able to spread so rapidly was the economic depression that occurred shortly before the plague
began. With all of these conditions combined, many Europeans citizens were weakened so much that
the Black Death easily killed many of them and in some cases, ... Show more content on

This depression can be attributed to many different things, one being the Great Famine. The Great
Famine helped to cause the depression because of the crop failures that it created. Farmers could not
produce enough crops to support themselves or trade in the market, and the economy suffered as a
result. In addition, the changes made to the economic system by Philip IV would later hurt Europe
substantially (Rothbard). One of these changes includes when Philip started the system of taxation in
France, issuing a strong sales tax on Champagne (Rothbard). He began to really take control of
France, virtually taking over the Catholic Church and the papacy. Blinded by power, Philip IV early in
the Fourteenth Century began to attack England (Rothbard). The Hundred Years War was almost fully
commenced by Philip IV and the effect that this brutal war would have on France, England and
Europe was palpable (Rothbard). Because of the war, the initial taxes that Philip IV put in place were
raised, and several other new types of taxes such as ad valorem were issued as well (Rothbard). The
high taxes that were put in place caused an inflation in France s currency, and the cost of the war was
quite high as well. The Hundred Years War severely hurt both the English and French economies in
numerous ways, and caused an economic depression that further weakened Europe before the Black
Death would even begin. This economic depression exposed Europe additionally due to the fact that
many Europeans were unable to afford the food and goods that they needed to keep their health up and

Dover Beach Analysis
Dover Beach Analysis
Matthew Arnold portrays an ambience of infinite sadness around his character whom is in an aquatic
scenery in the poem Dover Beach through the use of simile, imagery and allusion. The first line of the
poem reads The sea is calm tonight and this represents that he is indeed by the sea, and also the title of
the poem gives it away. The next line gives the reader more to imagine about the setting. The moon is
out and the tides are full means that this is taking place at night. Upon the straits; of the French coast

adjacent to is the English channel. The English channel is the body of water between France and
England and the southeastern coast of England is where our character stands. From this location in
Dover, England he can see the French light which is the closest point where you can get to France
without crossing the English channel. The character can hear the tides washing up and down the beach
as he stares off into the distance. He describes it as a the grating roar as the shells and other oceanic
debris are pulled in and out of the coastal sands by the water. The eternal note of sadness ends the first
stanza which gives it a darker feeling compared to the beginning being calm and tranquil. The speaker
is being moved by the music of the setting which is a taste godlessness, emptiness , or loneliness. In

Should Obama Bail Out the Auto Industry?
Context and Situations
By November 2008, Chrysler s sales had shrunk 25%. GM posted losses of $18 billion, and Ford lost
$11.5 billion. Despite Ford s elimination of 1/3 of its workforce, GM s elimination of 30,000 jobs, and
Chrysler s cutting of 13,000 employees, the Big Three were on the brink of bankruptcy. All three
testified before both houses of congress asking for loans to avoid default. The Big Three stated their
demise would trigger 3 million layoffs within a year, plunging the economy further into recession.
The purpose of the loans was to provide operating cash for GM and Chrysler, and to keep making auto

The question is: Did the government structure the financing correctly?
The government decided to take an equity stake at GM and thus was facing the possibility that a
substantial amount of these funds would never be repaid. The government has already written off or
realized losses of over $7 billion as of April 2012[2]. More losses will come as the government sells
its remaining stake in GM and Ally Financial. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the
auto bailout will ultimately cost taxpayers a total of about $20 billion[3]. The Treasury Department is
even more pessimistic, projecting that, at GM s current stock price, taxpayers will lose $23 billion[4].
Consequences
Consequence for the labor unions: In an opinion editorial published by The Detroit News, Mitt
Romney not only attacks the way the administration handled the bailout of General Motors Co. and
Chrysler Group LLC, but argues that the United Auto Workers (UAW) union benefited from the
bankruptcies in wake of contributing millions to Democrats and Barack Obama s campaign.
This spending greatly benefited the UAW and its members. Without the Administration s intervention,
a smaller bailout would have required incumbent UAW members, not just new employees, to accept
pay and benefit cuts. Average labor costs would have fallen to the same levels as the foreign
transplants, approximately $47 an hour. While this is still substantially higher compensation than the

Status Of Forces Agreements ( Sofa )
Status of Forces Agreements (SOFA)
Status of Forces Agreements (SOFAs) are often included, along with other types of military
agreements, as part of a comprehensive security arrangement with a particular country. A SOFA itself
does not constitute a security arrangement; rather, it establishes the rights and privileges of U.S.
personnel present in a country in support of the larger security strategy, and provides some legal
safeguards for service members stationed abroad. While the host nation and the U.S. sign SOFAs after
extensive negotiations, many believe they are a threat to the sovereignty of the host nations and an
exercise of U.S. influence in the world. So, is the sovereignty of a host nation compromised by signing
these agreements? Is this a zero sum game for the countries entering the arrangements or it is more
about cooperation and mutual benefit to the signatories? Long lasting SOFA s like the one between the
U.S. and South Korea (ROK) seem to have endured the test of time and the domestic and international
criticism that generates. On the other hand, short lived agreements like the one between the U.S. and
Iraq succumbed to internal political turmoil generated by the presence of foreign military forces on
their soil. In this document I will compare and contrast both in an attempt to demonstrate that the
circumstances that generated the agreement play an important part in the quality and the duration of it.

Atlantis Research Paper
Over the years, there have been plenty of islands that have disappeared. However, one island has has
been given a ton of attention. This island is called Atlantis and was referenced in the greek philosopher
Plato s work. The people that inhabited the Atlantis were supposed to be very advanced compared to
other civilizations. History.com says, Plato (through the character Critias in his dialogues) describes
Atlantis as an island larger than Libya and Asia Minor put together, located in the Atlantic just beyond
the Pillars of Hercules generally assumed to mean the Strait of Gibraltar. The island eventually sank
into the sea due to earthquakes and flooding. Many people thought Plato s book was just a myth until

One theory is that Atlantis was a mid atlantic island that sunk into the ocean. This is very plausible
because of the fact that this part of ocean is only a few hundred feet deep. This means that an
earthquake could have very well weakened the foundation of the island. Then, if it did flood to like
Plato said then it could have easily sunk into the sea floor. This is what Palto explains in his book but
there also could have been many other ways that the island was destroyed, from tsunamis to volcanos.
Next, another theory is that Atlantis was swallowed by the bermuda triangle. This myth could also
very well be true because there are what looks like man made walls and streets off the coast of Bimini,
although scientist evaluate the structures and found them to be natural rock formation. Finally, the last
theory is that Atlantis was Antarctica. History.com explains According to Hapgood, around 12,000
years ago the Earth s crust shifted, displacing the continent that became Antarctica from a location
much further north than it is today. This more temperate continent was home to an advanced
civilization, but the sudden shift to its current frigid location doomed the civilization s inhabitants the
Atlanteans and their magnificent city was buried under layers of ice. Hapgood s theory surfaced
before the scientific world gained a full understanding of plate tectonics, which largely relegated his
shifting crust idea to the fringes of Atlantean beliefs. This explains that explorers that are looking for
atlantis may truly be in the wrong place, instead of looking through the sea they should be digging
through ice. There are many plausible theories out there but all of them are either missing evidence or
need more investigation. Therefore there are plenty of theros that explain Atlantis

Examples Of Inequalities In Harrison Bergeron
Inequality is something that humanity has faced since the beginning of time; it seems like it will never
be worked out. There is really no way for everyone in the whole world to be equal no matter how
much work is put into it. Inequality in Harrison Bergeron was tackled in grand way. There were many
ways that gifted people were brought down to reach the level of those with special needs. The way
inequality was handed to such an extent makes one wonder why certain equalities were held higher
than others and what went on for there to be 213 amendments. In the story, George Bergeron has
intelligence way above normal, while Hazel Bergeron had perfectly normal intelligence which means
that she couldn t think about anything for too long. Those with superior intelligence had their mental
handicap that kept them from thinking for too long so they would be on the level of the average
people. The way that intelligence is shut down makes one wonder if the government has gotten rid of
any sort of tutoring or remedial work for struggling students. Are they forced to struggle? Or is
everyone also struggling? Intelligence is a good example of how the government brings everyone

He, like Jung, dared to look outside the normal experiences of the mind and expand the concepts of
consciousness. More particularly, William James attempted to describe the processes of the conscious
rather than the definition of the conscious. He was the first to introduce our nation to psychology as a
standard educational course and the founder of pragmatism which emphasizes the elimination of
unnecessary thinking and finding truth only if it is practically applicable. Practicality, James ... Show

The rationale of choice involves two levels of knowing knowledge of acquaintance (an intuitive,
sensory knowing) and knowledge about (intellectual, evaluative and factual knowing). James was
particularly interested in the habits of learning. He believed strongly that successful education was
dependent upon the establishment of healthy habits. Stages involved in establishing good personal
habits include: 1) a need or desire 2) information 3) repetition. Of course will is essential in
establishing good habits (or breaking bad habits) so the training and strengthening of will were of
major concern for James. He proposed that individuals accomplish this by practicing a useless task
daily in order to train and proof themselves capable of willing themselves into any activity. Desired
habits can be established with repetition. He does however recognize the occasional need to surrender
the will and allow events to occur naturally. This, he believes, may induce a state of complete
unification, or total oneness of self, and may require or lead to a transcendent state of mind. Self is
defined by James as the place from which all our mental processes originate and through which all our
experiences are perceived. The layers of self include the Material Self (the part of us that defines and
identifies ourselves via material goods and relationships), the Social Self (similar to Jung s persona, is
the self we play in social encounters) and the

King Hezekiah Essay
As a one reads through the Old Testament, he will find the story as it unfolds of the children of Israel.
Beginning in the book of Exodus the children of Israel are in Egyptian bondage and being forced to
work as slaves. God appears to Moses in a burning bush and tells him that He [God] has heard His
people and He is going to deliver them out of bondage. God at that time tells Moses that He has
chosen him to be the leader of this people. After God brings ten plagues against Egypt the children of
Israel are driven out of the land, and God promises to lead them to a land flowing with milk and
honey. On their way to the Promised Land they cross the Red Sea in which Pharaoh and the Egyptian
army is defeated by God. Then they go to Mount ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once they reached a certain point God would allow them to be oppressed by someone. They would
then cry out to the lord and hHe would send a judge to deliver them; however, each time they never
achieved the height of faith that they had before. The end of the book of Judges sums up Israel as a
whole, here the writer says, In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in
his own eyes (Judges 21:25). After this the children of Israel desired to have a king so that they would
be like everyone else. Samuel the prophet went to the Lord in prayer and was told to give them what
they wanted. During this time the Nation of Israel was still united and during the time they were
united there were three different kings Saul, David, and Solomon. Solomon was the last king to reign
during the time of the United Kingdom. However, since he chose to not follow in the footsteps of his
father David the kingdom was divided after his death. The northern kingdom came under the rule of
Jeroboam and the southern came under the rule of Rehoboam, the son of Solomon. This would begin a
period of time in which there would be many kings that ruled over the southern and northern
kingdoms. The northern kingdom would have nineteen kings during its history and all of them were
bad, meaning that they did not follow the ways of the Lord. The southern kingdom during its history
would have twenty kings of which some were

Essay on Carol Ann Duffy and Liz Lochhead Explore Memories
Compare and contrast how Duffy and Lochhead explore memories
Both Carol Ann Duffy and Liz Lochhead provide an exploration of their childhood memories, and
how these memories have changed and developed with age into analysis of social expectations of men
and women in the 1960 s. In Duffys poem Litany and Lochheads poem 1953, both poets reflect on
their childish perceptions of their parents conformity to social convention. Duffy and Lochhead
excellently implement a dramatic monologue form to convey their feelings towards their parents
conventional roles within the home. In Duffys Litany, the poem is narrated by Duffys younger self
who naively recounts women obsessed with social class and identity. The irregularity of the ... Show

Both poets expertly use language to explore their childhood memories and communicate their feelings
towards them now as adults. Duffys title Litany is ambiguous, she skilfully leaves allows the reader to
provide their own interpretations of the title and its meaning and how it relates to the poem, this
allows the reader to connect with the poem on a personal level. Duffys use of negative word functions
in the second stanza disclose Duffys own conception towards these women. Duffys reference to their
marriages as terrible are a clear indication of her distaste towards the social expectations of women to
marry, care for their husbands and children and basically never really fulfill very much in their lives.
Duffys imaginative description of the woman s hands as sharp reveal her impression of them as acute
and incisive creatures, consumed with a desire to portray the image of the model house wife , with
very little other ambition. Duffy superbly transmits a tone of pity towards these women as their only
real accomplishments will be owning candlewick bedspread three piece suite display cabinet .
Furthermore through her creative use of very descriptive verbs, which greatly appeal to the readers
sences, Duffy conveys a tone of distain towards these women. Throughout Litany Duffy creates
fantastic images for the reader from her imaginative use of imargery.

Cognitive, Motor, And Social Emotional Skills
During growth and development children are expected to meet certain milestones at specific ages. No
two children are exactly alike. Children grow and develop at their own pace. However, parents or
primary care providers may notice slow or absent growth and development in a child. Developmental
screenings take place initially. When abnormal growth and development are noted; a developmental
assessment is warranted. The developmental assessment will aid in recognition of the development
and growth concern. Also, prevent any further delays and enabling prompt and essential interventions
to take place; to enhance growth and development. The developmental assessment will examine
cognitive, language, motor, and social emotional skills (Burns, Dunn, Brady, Starr, Blosser, 2013).
Each developmental tool used should be compatible with the age of the child; to ensure accurate
results. The Receptive Expressive Emergent Language (REEL) Scale can be used to address speech
and language concerns. Tools used to assess emotional and social behavior include ASQ: Social
Emotional (ASQ: SE), the Temperament and Atypical Behavior Scale (TABS), and the Infant Toddler
and Family Instrument (ITFI) (Burns et al., 2013). The primary care provider can use other techniques
to assess and screen for developmental delays. In my opinion, all tools utilized have the potential to
enhance other gathered viable information. For instance, the parents may have a concern and is unable

Deforestation Mitigation Essay
Deforestation Mitigation Strategies
Tropical rainforests cover approximately thirty percent of the earth s land area, around 2.5 million
square miles, the size of the lower 48 states, despite the fact 80,000 acres (32,000) hectares are
destroyed per day for economic reasons. Tropical rainforests are biodiversity hotspots. Rainforests are
carbon sinks absorbing about half the carbon dioxide humans release into the atmosphere. Continued
deforestation will affect the entire world with the ecological ramifications of species extinction, loss of
carbon sinks, and loss of renewable resources. Deforestation reduces the availability of renewable
resources like medicinal plants, timber, nuts and fruit, and indigenous game. Over time, loss of ...

The Brosimum Alicastrum Plan.
The Brosimum Alicastrum is a large rainforest tree native to tropical regions and known as the Maya
Nut tree. The tree grows to 130 feet, grows naturally in rainforest soils, can produce an average of 400
pounds of 100% organic nuts a year and have more vital nutrients than foods grown on farmed soils.
Other than being one of the largest and fastest growing trees of the rainforest it produces a fruit high in
protein, calcium, fiber, iron and vitamins A, E, C, and B. The nut can be prepared to taste like
chocolate, coffee, or even mashed potatoes (The Equilibrium Fund, 2010). If dried and ground into
flour can be used to make cakes, cookies, cereal. The leaves of the trees are high in nutrients that can
be used for cattle fodder (Cable News Network, 2009).
The nut was used in the ancient Mayan culture as food stable with special cultivated orchards
designed specifically for this tree. Over the centuries this nut was forgotten. People living in the in the
areas where the Maya Nut tree now flourishes, don t know about the fruit itself. Environmentally, this
is the ideal tree to use for reforestation; fast growing, producing food, creating an earning income for
the individual farmer while protecting watersheds, preventing erosion, helping with carbon

Two Standards Of Auditing
As accountants and auditors, we are held to, and must comply with, two standards of professional
conduct. Those standards are generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally
accepted auditing standards (GAAS). GAAP enforces the uniform standards for preparing and
presenting financial statements. GAAS governs the ways and means are used by public accountants
when conducting an audit. GAAS establishes the standards for field work and mandates that sufficient
evidence be found to provide reasonable assurance for issuing an audit opinion.
Liability to Clients
Please remember, as accountants we are held liable to our clients when we enter into contracts and are
hired to perform services. The liability we face can come from items such as breach of contract, fraud
and negligence. When an accountant enters into a contract, also known as an engagement, with a
client the terms of said engagement are specified. In a contract an accountant has explicit and implicit
duties. The accountant must perform all explicit duties in the contract. The implicit duties of the
contract are implied, and the accountant agrees to perform them in a proficient and professional
manner. If an accountant fails to perform the duties of the contract, he or she may be held in breach of
the contract.
An accountant may be found liable for two types of fraud. These two types are actual and
constructive. Actual fraud occurs when there is a deliberate omission or misrepresentation of a

The Song Of Wandering Aengus, By William Yeats And Seamus...
William Yeats and Seamus Heaney are both considered as the best Irish poets. Although, they are both
Irish, however, they did not always agree on the same topics. In the poem The song of wandering
Aengus written by W.B Yeats which was a one of a kind poem that shared the same theme as the poem
Digging which was written by Heaney. Regardless of the common theme, these two poems are
different for the reason that Yeats s poem refers more to cultural identity whereas Heaney s poem talks
more about family identity, mostly about his father.
The Song of Wandering Aengus poem gives the reader a great introduction to one of the famous myths
of Ireland: the mythology of love and beauty, and his infatuation with a beautiful girl. I went to blow
the fire a flame, / But something rustled on the floor, / And someone called me by my name:/It had
become a glimmering girl (lines 10 13). In these lines, Yeats mentioned the word fire which represents
enlightenment and inspiration in the Irish culture. In addition to, it also represents Yeats desire to
breath life into Ireland s literary and cultural identity as he is the enlightened one. Where he
transitioned the trout into life which shows the reflection of his desire. However, Heaney s poem
Digging does not related in anyway to the Irish mythology or culture that was referred to in the few
lines in The Song Of Wandering Aengus . Seamus Heaney prefered to cover the idea of family in his
poem and avoided the cultural identity

Spanking Behavior Essay
Spanking is a particular parenting behavior that I feel strongly about. In my particular case, my
parents used spanking as disciplinary action if deprivation of privilege and time out did not serve their
purpose with my brothers and I. In these cases my parents would strike, or spank, our buttocks with an
open palm to serve as a form of punishment. Although my parents did utilize spanking, they exhibited
an authoritative parenting style where they promoted autonomy within reasonable limits (Bigner,
2013). I think that if spanking is used moderately and under these circumstances it can be an
extremely effective form of discipline. Unfortunately, parents often abuse spanking resulting in
numerous negative effects on children. Also, corporal punishment, such as spanking, is most often
associated with authoritarian parenting styles. Authoritarian parents typically use forceful means to
gain their child s cooperation and obedience. Again, I believe that my parents used spanking within
reasonable bounds and therefore it had several positive effects on me as a child. When I was a child I
had learned that if my parents took one of my toys away or timed me out I would eventually be
allowed to continue as I was doing, therefore these forms of punishment had become less meaningful
to me. Eventually, after several reoccurrences my dad spanked my buttocks! After having been
spanked I rarely repeated the same misbehavior. My parents rarely spanked my brothers and I so I had

In many stories, the concept of a secondary character role is often overlooked and deemed irreverent.
However, in the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare and the novel Fifth Business by Robertson

the fulfillment of Fifth Business . According to Davies, Fifth Business are those roles which, being
neither those of Hero nor Heroine, Confidante nor Villain, but which were nonetheless essential to

Hamlet could theoretically soliloquize the whole play, but it is his conversations with Horatio that
truly reveal what the Prince is really thinking and feeling. For example, insight on Hamlet s troubled
nature is first revealed when Horatio says My lord, I came to see your father s funeral (1.2.176) and
Hamlet sarcastically responds with I prithee, do not mock me, fellow student; / I think it was to see my
mother s wedding (1.2.177 78). Such influence on Hamlet proves that Horatio is valuable in the
interpretation of the recognition and denouncement of Hamlet s inner self. Secondly, Horatio has
proven to be the anchor of reason to the plot; his role as Fifth Business is heavily credited to his
intelligence and rational thinking. From the first scene, Horatio is calm and reasonable, as he is not
afraid to confront and reason with the ghost. He demands it to speak if it knows what the future of
Denmark is:
Speak to me, / If there be any good thing to be done / That may to thee do ease, and grace to me, /
Speak to me, / If thou art pricy to thy country s fate, / O, speak! / Or if thou hast uphoarded in thy ice /
Extorted treasure in the womb of earth, / For which, they say, you spirits oft walk in death, / Speak of
it, stay and speak! (1.1.129 39).

Horatio makes it clear when Hamlet

The reality that no two students are alike and no two classes are ever alike, contributes greatly to the

Students should be given choices when it is at all possible and they should always be treated with

In order to allow for optimal learning there are a number of other issues which must be addressed

The Tragedy Of World War II By Siegfried Sassoon
throughout History, a major tragedy caused the world to become chaotic, which lead to millions of
brave individuals to lose their life. This horrific tragedy, World War 1 (the Great War), was the
beginning of a long terrible journey. Many strong and mighty men volunteered to join the War with
the persuasion of being Hero s . These men did not realize the terror they would face when walking
into this journey. Many soldiers were faced with seeing their fellow soldiers cold blood drip from their
aching bodies, their loving eyes becoming raged with anger by the conditions of their sleeping
arrangements, and their hopes of ever returning home or being a normal human being was wiped
clean. This was the beginning of a major change in the lives of all individuals throughout the world.
Before the War, many soldierss mindsets was that this war would turn them into hero s and men . A
poet, Siegfried Sassoon, wrote the famous poem They , explained, The Bishop (authority) tells us:
when the boys come back/ they will not be the same (1 2). These lines symbolizes how many or all
soldiers were encouraged to join the War because they will come out a better individual, and everyone
will look up to them. Many of these fellow soldiers entered the war singing, but suddenly realized the

Narra Tor Rhyme Scheme
Along with visual aspects, rhyme, and rhythm Love and a Question also has a specific form, language,
and ideas. The form of the poem in relation to the rhyme scheme is a simple 4 line which is an abcb
rhyme scheme repeated throughout the poem; Robert Frost does not stray away from the abcb rhyme
scheme once during Love and a Question. The rhetoric in this poem expresses the speaker as a
descriptive individual. The narrator describes the stranger asking for shelter with the eyes more than
the lips, and he road this stranger travelled upon as a weary road, such word choice implies the
narrator is a very eloquent and thoughtful (21). The narra tor sees the need in the stranger s eyes for
shelter and notes the tiring journey this stranger has been on thus far, this rhetoric also demonstrates
specific word choice of the narrator. The narra tor chose words like weary to express the long and
tiring journey the stranger has been on up till this point, the road he traveled to get to the bridegroom s
house was extensive and wearing (21). Another example of word choice by the narrator is the word

The, The Party For God Essay
Hezbollah
To some Hezbollah, the Party for God , is a political group fighting for nationalism and to others,
particularly western cultures; Hezbollah is a very dangerous terrorist organization. Hezbollah is a
Shiite Muslim group based in Iran and Southern Lebanon. They have an extensive network that
crosses international borders and consists of everything from schools and hospitals to a television
station.
Hezbollah was formed following the 1979 Iranian Revolution. In the early 80s, there were a number
of rebels and terrorist groups in the region who were carrying out attacks under various names within
the umbrella of the newly formed Hezbollah (White, 2014). According to Jonathan White in Terrorism
and Homeland Security, Hezbollah acted more or less like a terrorist clearinghouse. It wasn t until
1985 that the leaders of Hezbollah brought all of the groups together under a united front. They felt
that this would strengthen their cause and further their effect.
During the early days of Hezbollah the Iranian Revolutionary Guard provided much of its support
(Laub and Masters, 2014). Hezbollah has essentially been doing Iran s dirty work in their fight against
Israel. Both Iran and Hezbollah want the annihilation of Israel and won t stop until it is eradicated

Abstract
The article focuses on the model of security engineering, which can be separated into two different
parts: operational and controllable. The operational part of model provides useful data on the
performance of the system. With the collected data, it can lead to creating a better result on the second
part of the model which is to define the security controls. Security control provides the measurement
of the system. For each phase, there is a certain control that needs to be performed. With the two

Document the high level concept and bring into the next phase, design phase.
The second phase is called design phase. Capture the information from the previous phase and
establish a plan. A plan that provides an architectural view to put into action. The design phase comes
after a good understanding of customer s requirements (Alwan, 2015). The design phase is basically
creating an action plan for the rest of the process to follow.
The third phase is called the development phase. In the development phase, the engineers are focusing
on the objectives.
The fourth phase is called the deployment phase. During the deployment phase, the development
product should fulfill the criteria of the customer. In some life cycle model, this stage usually being
called integration, verification, and validation. Moreover, in the deployment phase, this is where the
engineering s object being integrated into the system (Marchant, 2013).
The fifth phase is called the operations phase. The operation phase is simply making sure all activities
are sustained and function properly. Not only making sure the objects are working, but also providing
support, updates, and repairs.
The last phase of the SDLC is called the retirement phase. Without the retirement phase, the security
vulnerability may be exposed. Disposing the old system and making sure the API, and database is

Short Story Titled Undertaking A Mission
Kush Shah Undertaking a mission Everybody had undertaken a mission sometime in life. They all
faced challenges. They might have not had enough materials, not a lot of time, or no ideas. For
example, Farah Ahmedi had to scale a mountain, the Apollo 13 crew were running out of oxygen and
water for a trip, and Stanley Pearce had to usher his group to their claim in the deep snow, and only
with a candle. All of these people needed to overcome these challenges to reach their goal. First, is
Stanley Pearce, He needed to overcome many challenges, such as finding a claim, walking in the dark
with snow all around him, and only having a candle. He overcame these challenges by being crafty,
and stayed strong. Eventually, he walked many miles to set

Value Of Education In The United States
An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. Benjamin Franklin
Benjamin Franklin lived in the eighteen century. He attended but did not graduate from the Boston
Latin School. However, Franklin was a very educated man. Franklin continued educating himself,
after withdrawing from the Boston Latin school, through other means such as reading. Nevertheless,
Franklin acknowledges the importance of education. Today, the value of education is often preached.
However, many of the United States` policies do not reflect on the so called importance of education.
For example, The United States spends 20% on Wars and only 3% on education. This tells us that the
United States do not care as much about education as we do about the wars. With such a low
investment in education, the United States has fallen behind in terms of education. However, there are
signs everywhere that the United States needs to invest more in education. For example, one was
considered an educated man if he graduated high school in the 1960`s. Thus, many viewed two and
four year universities as luxuries. Fast forward fifty years later, even careers that are entry level jobs
strongly recommend having a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It keeps the poor at the bottom of the food chain and allow for the rich to continually grow more
prosperous. For many poor people in the U.S. who seek to become more educated, public Universities
seem to be the answer. However, even public universities are no longer free for them. Many poor
people graduate from public universities in debt. Entering a very uncertain workforce and in debt,
many people find themselves settling for jobs where they are overqualified just to survive. Thus, they
take low paying jobs that will never allow them to pay back their loans and live a better life. To give
everyone equal opportunity for economic advancement, I suggest making public universities free for

Southern Wild Themes
A scene from Beasts of the Southern Wild that I find particularly powerful is when Hushpuppy comes
face to face with the aurochs. The scene depicts an inconceivably large prehistoric bull snorting in the
face of Hushpuppy, a small young girl, who against all odds, does not appear to be terrified.
Hushpuppy s confrontation with the aurochs occurs while her father is dying of cancer. In this
moment, Hushpuppy is literally staring death in the face. However, she manages not to show any signs
of fear. This scene portrays Hushpuppy as powerful and brave. Hushpuppy s calm and collected
attitude brings forth an unexpected glimmer of maturity. The scene alludes to a future where
Hushpuppy is able to take care of herself, without the help of her father. At the end of the scene, the
pack of aurochsen bow their heads to Hushpuppy. The aurochsen bow their heads in respect for
Hushpuppy and her strength. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both the play and the film, the aurochs is used to symbolize death or tragedy. When life seems like
it is falling apart or excruciatingly difficult, the aurochs will run rampant through the scene, destroying
everything in its path. In the play Juicy and Delicious, the aurochs specifically symbolizes the end of
the world. Beasts of the Southern Wild also utilizes this definition when Hushpuppy has to come to
terms with her dying father; the life she has always known is ending, thus it is the end of the world as
she knows

between theory and research, as well as, how research contributes to theory and how theory relates to
concepts such as paradigm and model. Furthermore, the section contains information on how theory
can be used to explore the effects that InfoSec technologies, policies, and procedures (IS TPPs) have
on individual productivity. The final two sections Recommendations and Conclusions briefly
summarize recommendations from various researchers in the InfoSec field and draws conclusions as
they relate to theory and the IS TPPs research problem.
Literature Review
In line with the Torraco (2005) recommendations, this section is organized thematically, providing
background information about theory and research, as well as, the IS TPPs research problem.
Background Information on Theory and Research
When it comes to defining theory, researchers assign a number of means meanings, have numerous
views, and define varying criteria (Gay Weaver, 2011). In fact, differences of opinion are not limited
to the definition of theory; but also, (a) the nature of theory; (b) the criteria for establishing good
theory; (c) its purpose; and, (d) the best method for theory building (Gay Weaver, 2011). Why are
there such differing opinions about theory? Gay

Charles Manson Research Paper Outline
Charles Manson is an extremely intelligent and persuasive man, that created his own cult and
manipulated people to kill for him, which led to his never being found guilty of committing murder,
although serving time in jail for conspiracy to commit murder. His followers carried out several
notorious murders in the late 1960 s. The cult was known as the Manson Family. He was roughly in
his thirties when the cult was recognized. Born in Ohio in 1934 he did not have much of a childhood.
He lived out most of his childhood moving around. His mother couldn t take care of him so Charles
spent his youth at homes of various relatives. He also spent large amounts of time in special reform
schools and boys homes. By the age nine Manson had already began stealing. Burglary and stealing
cars were added to his repertoire. As he grew older his crimes became more frequent. ... Show more

Some professions are easily mistaken due to their philosophies and type of treatment. Professions that are commonly mistaken are Chiropractic, Osteopathy, and Physiotherapy. The purpose of this essay is to distinctly differentiate between the three professions to both increase my own knowledge and the knowledge of others. Chiropractic is a form of health care that predominantly focuses on the relationships of structures (mainly the spine and pelvis) and its functions (mainly the nervous system). Both the professions of Chiropractic and Physiotherapy are manual therapy which requires a lot of hands on treatment. They re both holistic, specified treatments focusing on musculoskeletal injuries. Through achieving this in both professions, it allows the patient to maximise the mobility of the injured site and enhance their quality of life. (9) Another similarity is that both professions use medical machinery to assess the state of the injury before treatment. For instance, a Chiropractor will look at x ray films to assess the nature of the condition before they start manipulating and adjusting. Similarly, a Physiotherapist may also use x rays and/or ultrasound films to assess the nature of the injury before massaging. There aren t many similarities between Chiropractic and Physiotherapy as their philosophies are different. Chiropractic is mainly to treat a patient through the manipulation of the spinal vertebras whereas Physiotherapy focuses on using other modalities to treat a patient.(8) Some modalities that Physiotherapists may use are heat therapy, cold therapy, massage therapy (mainly used), and exercise therapy. Unlike chiropractic where it mainly focuses on the spine to treat an injury, physiotherapy focuses on stabilising the injury itself to prevent further injury through means such as medical sports tape (not always necessary). Through these forms of therapeutic treatment it allows the individual to move independently without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Early History Of Human Overpopulation Overpopulation of Humans Within the early history of the human race, the earth was titanic and appeared boundless. Its resources seemed limitless. Then as the humans traveled away from home, the world got smaller and most of the world was recorded onto maps. Soon, the numbers of people were growing and the world and its natural resources looked as if it was shrinking. The overpopulation of an creature is dangerous to any environment, but with humans its deadly for the whole world. In biology, it states that when life is pleasurable and resources are abundant, life will begin to grow exponentially until space and food become scarce. At that moment the population of whatever creature will even out and remain stable. However, in nature, land and resources are limited, so all forms of life are in a constantly competing for survival. Adaptability and evolution helps the lucky certain creatures with new skills or traits that will aid them to become fit and reproduce. With the early humans, their numbers began to grow dramatically due to their involvement in agriculture to produce their own food in vast amounts. Then, as man s tools and farming techniques were developed to produce more food, the human population grew dramatically, again. This allowed a civilization to trade ... • 4. Analysis Of The Film The Fountain The Fountain by Darren Aronofsky is a film that depicts Tommy s Denial towards death. This film is the journey of one man in his past, present, and future. In the film, Tommy has a very stubborn mindset; he believes that death is a disease and that there is a cure for every disease. On the other hand, Izzi, Tommy s wife is very accepting towards the thought of death and her intentions are to prove to Tommy that death is not as bad as it may seem. As the film progresses, Tommy s acceptance towards death begins to gradually increase. Thomas is seen in the past where the guardian of the tree stabs him as he mentions death is the road to awe The film the continues with Tommy in the future ingesting a piece of the tree of life. Izzi then is seen asking Tommy to go with her but Tommy chooses his job over Izzi. During this time Tommy s ring appears to go missing. In the process of Donovan s surgery Tommy uses a piece of the tree of life in attempt of curing Donovan. In the past Isabel gives Thomas the ring as a promise to her if Thomas finds the tree of life to save Spain. Izzi then shows Tommy a nebula wrapped around a dying star. Mayans call it Shibalba, it represents their underworld. Izzi finds it fascinating that mayans choose a dying star as their underworld, once the nebula explodes it will create stars. • 5. Should Homework Be Allowed In Schools Essay Kylie drops her backpack on the floor with a thump, and runs to change her clothes. I m home, she calls to her mom, grabbing a quick snack before running over to her friend Emily s house next door. Kylie is an example of many students across the country whose schools have begun to implement a new policy of no homework. The policy encourages children to spend their free time with their family. The only homework that a child is given is the material that they did not finish during class time. This leads to the question. Should elementary schools assign homework to children? Children in elementary schools should not be assigned homework because children are now allowed to pursue interests and spend time with their family, homework is often repetitive and time consuming, and homework can leave stress and burden on both parents and children. Firstly, children can now pursue other interests and spend quality time with their family. Kids are the futures of the generation. They need to be able to learn, explore, grow, and have fun instead of slaving over a pile of homework. Parent Jason Sapan states that, It takes the joy out of kids who are exceptional, and overwhelms those who are struggling. (New York Times) For decades, the homework standard was that the maximum amount of homework per grade level was 10 minutes and it would increase as children graduated a grade. For example, if a child was in 2nd grade, he or she would receive 20 minutes of homework. But now, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Imperialism, The Middle East, And East Asia Large busy markets, snake charmers, carpet vendors, and veiled women all invoke ideas of West Africa, the Middle East, and West Asia, but all these ideas come from Oriental fantasies from the nineteenth century. Edward Said the author of Orientalism said that Orientalism was ultimately a political vision of reality whose structure promoted the difference between the familiar (Europe, West, us ) and the strange (the Orient, the East, them ). The nineteenth century was a period of imperialism and tourism that led many western artists to visit West Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Orientalist paintings depicted two major effects, many artists often portrayed something exotic, which was racialized, feminized, and from a sexualized culture from a faraway land. Another effect that artists mainly like Jean Léon Gérôme often showed was an authentic glimpse of a location and its inhabitants. Nochlin mentioned that many of Gérôme s paintings worked to persuade their audiences by carefully representing a preexisting Oriental reality. Imperialism is a policy or practice by which a country increases its power by gaining control over other areas of the world. French orientalist paintings in the nineteenth century were intended as propaganda in support of French imperialism, portraying the East as a place of backwardness, lawlessness, and savagery enlightened and disciplined by French rule. Throughout this paper resilience will be applied to all of the above mentioned concepts. Resilience across a lifespan is described through theories, measures, and even personality characteristics. Resilience has also been applied to the impacts of disasters and traumatic experiences in which will also be touched on throughout this paper. Resilience is described as the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress (American Psychological Association, 2016). Resilience is an ordinary thing in human beings. It is often described as bouncing back, which refers to bouncing back from difficult times or situations. As a person grows older resilience grows as well. A person s past can most certainly affect how a person uses resiliency in the present. If a person is not affected negatively a lot in their past when it comes time for a person to bounce back, they will not bounce back as smoothly as a person who has had a very traumatic past and has learned how to bounce back in a smoother fashion. A person s past determines their resiliency in the present and a person s present determines their resiliency efforts in the future. Resiliency is different for each and every person. It was suggested that pigeons are able to detect the earth s magnetic field, and therefore navigate with this aid. An experiment carried out to explore this possibility. Small magnets were attached to the heads of pigeons which were then released in unfamiliar surroundings. The magnets were designed to disrupt any detection of the earth s magnetic field. The pigeon s ability to find it s way back to it s home loft was then observed. This suggested that the butterflies headed in a certain direction according to where they believe the sun should be for the time of day they believed it to be. It was also found that the butterflies did not respond to changes in magnetic fields suggesting that their primary compass system is based on the sun. b) Assess what these studies can tell us about homing and/or migration. Both studies suggest that animals do not necessarily use just one method to navigate. Keeton s studies shows pigeon s to use both magnetic field and the sun depending on the weather condition. This demonstrates that animals are able to adapt their navigational strategy accordingly as it is essential for survival. However, in Mouritsen and Frost s experiment, it was suggested that butterflies only utilise one strategy of navigation; the sun. Even in cloudy conditions butterflies are said to use patterns of polarised light visible through the clouds. In this case, the idea that animals adapt to different weather conditions cannot be put forward. The butterflies were able to navigate their direction even when the sun was not actually present. Perhaps there would be a so called master race that exterminated any person that slightly deviated from what was deemed perfect. Maybe there would be no more humans left at all. Humanity binds the human race together. The caring for other people and not just thinking about yourself. The word is humanity, and the root of that is human. This concept is central to all our beliefs. Just like a coin though, there is a flip side. Inhumanity, when humans do not act like regular humans. To be described as inhuman a person has to be extremely nefarious. These people that commit inhuman acts upon others are treated as monsters, and by all rights are monsters. • 14. How Did The Black Death Affect Europe The condition that Europe was in before the Black Death struck was ultimately one of the main reasons for the disease s quick spreading. One bad condition that helped to make the Black Death even more deadly was the population boom of Europe in the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Centuries (Kagan et al. 292). Another pre existing condition that hurt the health of Europe was the multiple famines that would come to be known at the Great Famine (Kagan et al. 292). The last cause of the Black Death being able to spread so rapidly was the economic depression that occurred shortly before the plague began. This depression can be attributed to many different things, one being the Great Famine. The Great Famine helped to cause the depression because of the crop failures that it created. Farmers could not produce enough crops to support themselves or trade in the market, and the economy suffered as a result. In addition, the changes made to the economic system by Philip IV would later hurt Europe substantially (Rothbard). One of these changes includes when Philip started the system of taxation in France, issuing a strong sales tax on Champagne (Rothbard). He began to really take control of France, virtually taking over the Catholic Church and the papacy. Blinded by power, Philip IV early in the Fourteenth Century began to attack England (Rothbard). The Hundred Years War was almost fully commenced by Philip IV and the effect that this brutal war would have on France, England and Europe was palpable (Rothbard). Because of the war, the initial taxes that Philip IV put in place were raised, and several other new types of taxes such as ad valorem were issued as well (Rothbard). The high taxes that were put in place caused an inflation in France s currency, and the cost of the war was quite high as well. The Hundred Years War severely hurt both the English and French economies in numerous ways, and caused an economic depression that further weakened Europe before the Black Death would even begin. Status Of Forces Agreements ( Sofa ) Status of Forces Agreements (SOFA) Status of Forces Agreements (SOFAs) are often included, along with other types of military agreements, as part of a comprehensive security arrangement with a particular country. A SOFA itself does not constitute a security arrangement; rather, it establishes the rights and privileges of U.S. personnel present in a country in support of the larger security strategy, and provides some legal safeguards for service members stationed abroad. While the host nation and the U.S. sign SOFAs after extensive negotiations, many believe they are a threat to the sovereignty of the host nations and an exercise of U.S. influence in the world. So, is the sovereignty of a host nation compromised by signing these agreements? Is this a zero sum game for the countries entering the arrangements or it is more about cooperation and mutual benefit to the signatories? Long lasting SOFA s like the one between the U.S. and South Korea (ROK) seem to have endured the test of time and the domestic and international criticism that generates. On the other hand, short lived agreements like the one between the U.S. and Iraq succumbed to internal political turmoil generated by the presence of foreign military forces on their soil. This island is called Atlantis and was referenced in the greek philosopher Plato s work. The people that inhabited the Atlantis were supposed to be very advanced compared to other civilizations. History.com says, Plato (through the character Critias in his dialogues) describes Atlantis as an island larger than Libya and Asia Minor put together, located in the Atlantic just beyond the Pillars of Hercules generally assumed to mean the Strait of Gibraltar. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One theory is that Atlantis was a mid atlantic island that sunk into the ocean. This is very plausible because of the fact that this part of ocean is only a few hundred feet deep. This means that an earthquake could have very well weakened the foundation of the island. Then, if it did flood to like Plato said then it could have easily sunk into the sea floor. This is what Palto explains in his book but there also could have been many other ways that the island was destroyed, from tsunamis to volcanos. Next, another theory is that Atlantis was swallowed by the bermuda triangle. This myth could also very well be true because there are what looks like man made walls and streets off the coast of Bimini, although scientist evaluate the structures and found them to be natural rock formation. Finally, the last theory is that Atlantis was Antarctica. History.com explains According to Hapgood, around 12,000 years ago the Earth s crust shifted, displacing the continent that became Antarctica from a location much further north than it is today. This more temperate continent was home to an advanced civilization, but the sudden shift to its current frigid location doomed the civilization s inhabitants the Atlanteans and their magnificent city was buried under layers of ice. Hapgood s theory surfaced before the scientific world gained a full understanding of plate tectonics, which largely relegated his shifting crust idea to the fringes of Atlantean beliefs. This explains that explorers that are looking for atlantis may truly be in the wrong place, instead of looking through the sea they should be digging through ice. Of course will is essential in establishing good habits (or breaking bad habits) so the training and strengthening of will were of major concern for James. He proposed that individuals accomplish this by practicing a useless task daily in order to train and proof themselves capable of willing themselves into any activity. Desired habits can be established with repetition. He does however recognize the occasional need to surrender the will and allow events to occur naturally. This, he believes, may induce a state of complete unification, or total oneness of self, and may require or lead to a transcendent state of mind. Self is defined by James as the place from which all our mental processes originate and through which all our experiences are perceived. The layers of self include the Material Self (the part of us that defines and identifies ourselves via material goods and relationships), the Social Self (similar to Jung s persona, is the self we play in social encounters) and the ... God appears to Moses in a burning bush and tells him that He [God] has heard His people and He is going to deliver them out of bondage. God at that time tells Moses that He has chosen him to be the leader of this people. After God brings ten plagues against Egypt the children of Israel are driven out of the land, and God promises to lead them to a land flowing with milk and honey. The end of the book of Judges sums up Israel as a whole, here the writer says, In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes (Judges 21:25). After this the children of Israel desired to have a king so that they would be like everyone else. Samuel the prophet went to the Lord in prayer and was told to give them what they wanted. During this time the Nation of Israel was still united and during the time they were united there were three different kings Saul, David, and Solomon. Solomon was the last king to reign during the time of the United Kingdom. However, since he chose to not follow in the footsteps of his father David the kingdom was divided after his death. The northern kingdom came under the rule of Jeroboam and the southern came under the rule of Rehoboam, the son of Solomon. This would begin a period of time in which there would be many kings that ruled over the southern and northern kingdoms. Although, they are both Irish, however, they did not always agree on the same topics. In the poem The song of wandering Aengus written by W.B Yeats which was a one of a kind poem that shared the same theme as the poem Digging which was written by Heaney. Regardless of the common theme, these two poems are different for the reason that Yeats s poem refers more to cultural identity whereas Heaney s poem talks more about family identity, mostly about his father. The Song of Wandering Aengus poem gives the reader a great introduction to one of the famous myths of Ireland: the mythology of love and beauty, and his infatuation with a beautiful girl. I went to blow the fire a flame, / But something rustled on the floor, / And someone called me by my name:/It had become a glimmering girl (lines 10 13). In these lines, Yeats mentioned the word fire which represents enlightenment and inspiration in the Irish culture. In addition to, it also represents Yeats desire to breath life into Ireland s literary and cultural identity as he is the enlightened one. Where he transitioned the trout into life which shows the reflection of his desire. However, Heaney s poem Digging does not related in anyway to the Irish mythology or culture that was referred to in the few lines in The Song Of Wandering Aengus . In these cases my parents would strike, or spank, our buttocks with an open palm to serve as a form of punishment. Although my parents did utilize spanking, they exhibited an authoritative parenting style where they promoted autonomy within reasonable limits (Bigner, 2013). I think that if spanking is used moderately and under these circumstances it can be an extremely effective form of discipline. For example, Farah Ahmedi had to scale a mountain, the Apollo 13 crew were running out of oxygen and water for a trip, and Stanley Pearce had to usher his group to their claim in the deep snow, and only with a candle. All of these people needed to overcome these challenges to reach their goal. • 43. Value Of Education In The United States An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin lived in the eighteen century. He attended but did not graduate from the Boston Latin School. However, Franklin was a very educated man. Franklin continued educating himself, after withdrawing from the Boston Latin school, through other means such as reading. Nevertheless, Franklin acknowledges the importance of education. Today, the value of education is often preached. However, many of the United States` policies do not reflect on the so called importance of education. For example, The United States spends 20% on Wars and only 3% on education. This tells us that the United States do not care as much about education as we do about the wars. With such a low investment in education, the United States has fallen behind in terms of education. However, there are signs everywhere that the United States needs to invest more in education. For example, one was considered an educated man if he graduated high school in the 1960`s. Thus, many viewed two and four year universities as luxuries. Fast forward fifty years later, even careers that are entry level jobs strongly recommend having a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For many poor people in the U.S. who seek to become more educated, public Universities seem to be the answer. However, even public universities are no longer free for them. Many poor people graduate from public universities in debt. Entering a very uncertain workforce and in debt, many people find themselves settling for jobs where they are overqualified just to survive. Thus, they take low paying jobs that will never allow them to pay back their loans and live a better life. The scene depicts an inconceivably large prehistoric bull snorting in the face of Hushpuppy, a small young girl, who against all odds, does not appear to be terrified. Hushpuppy s confrontation with the aurochs occurs while her father is dying of cancer. In this moment, Hushpuppy is literally staring death in the face. However, she manages not to show any signs of fear. This scene portrays Hushpuppy as powerful and brave. Hushpuppy s calm and collected attitude brings forth an unexpected glimmer of maturity. The scene alludes to a future where Hushpuppy is able to take care of herself, without the help of her father. At the end of the scene, the pack of aurochsen bow their heads to Hushpuppy. The aurochsen bow their heads in respect for Hushpuppy and her strength. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both the play and the film, the aurochs is used to symbolize death or tragedy.
