Dream Interpretation For Beginners Summary
A person opens their eyes and realizes that they are are on a gigantic chocolate chip cookie boat,
flowing down a warm, white, milky river. When the person looks all around from the milky river, the
person sees mountains that are made of ice cream and are topped with whipped cream and cherries on
top. They are in paradise. They awake to a loud sound, and as the milky river and ice cream mountains
fade away, they realize it was all just a dream. Dreams are a series of thoughts, images and sensations
that occur in a person s mind when they are sleep. Peoples views on dreaming today are similar yet
different in a way, from what people believed back then. Sigmund Freud s beliefs and theories were
believed by many people, including one of his theories called day residue. There are several facts and
information on the scientific background behind dreaming, such as the sleeping and dreaming
structure, rapid eye movement sleep, and non rapid eye movement sleep. There is also a lot of
information on the content of dreams and the interpretations of them. What ... Show more content on

One statement she says is that, it is while we are sleeping that were consolidating and moving to more
permanent storage the events experienced and things learned during the day or preceding day
(Brandon 44). In other words, she is saying that what we dream could strongly be related to what we
have learned or done the day of or the day before. For example, if a student is reading a certain novel
and learning about events from it, that student might have a dream regarding what he or she is reading
or learning about. On a different subject, dreams can play out the final scene of our problems during
the day while we sleep. They can do this by processing all of the emotions that a person faces
throughout their daily

Theme Of Oliver Twist
The word money sums up a theme that Dickens has been preoccupied with in many of his novels .
Dickens has studied the nineteenth century commercially oriented England and observed the
corrupting influence of money on members and deplorably , suggesting how material possessions
have become the criterion of evaluating a human being . Dickens s critics are well aware of this
devastating influence . Humphry House confidently tells us that Dickens s plots and characters are ,
constructed round an attitude to money . Social status without it is subordinate . 1 This however , is a
general comment on the Dickensian text . But in Oliver Twist , the theme gathers momentum and
unfolds itself in a manner that attracts our attention , hence its ... Show more content on

He is neither a revolutionist who believes in collective action against the oppressive institution of
capitalism , nor a deserter who betrays the cause of the working class . He shows an individualistic

With the Victorian novelists , the scope of imagination takes a further step by being regarded as a
shared experience between the artist and the reader . We may do well here by recalling one of Dickens
s approaches to involve the reader in the narrative action through his use of humour which becomes a
connective agent . In The Life of Charles Dickens , Forster defends Dickens s humour in terms of its
effect on us :
To perceive relation in things which are not apparent generally , is one of those exquisite properties of

Gerrymandering In The American Political System
There are obvious flaws in the American political system. However, gerrymandering, which has been
undermining American democracy since the nation s birth, has remained widely unknown.
Gerrymandering, which occurs across the United States, is used by Democrats and Republicans to
maximize the number of congressional seats they capture. Every ten years, the government conducts a
census. Following the census, state legislatures redraw congressional districts to reflect population
changes. However, state legislatures are often controlled by a single political party that unfairly
redraws congressional districts in order to win more seats in the House of Representatives (Ingraham).
Politicians concentrate the voting strength of the opposition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In 1842, Congress passed the Apportionment Act, which required congressional districts to be
compact and equal in population ( Apportionment Legislation 1840 1880 ). Although the law made an
initial effort to curb gerrymandering, it failed to adequately define compact. Over a century later, in
the 1962 court case Baker v. Carr, the Supreme Court ruled that congressional districts must have
reasonable boundaries. The court further deemed redistricting issues to be justiciable, enabling federal
courts to decide gerrymandering cases ( Baker v. Carr ). It wasn t until the 1985 Davis v. Bandemer
case that the Supreme Court ruled that manipulating district boundaries for political gains is
unconstitutional ( Davis v. Bandemer ). However, the Supreme Court left unanswered one pivotal
question: What are the standards for identifying and litigating a gerrymander? (Hess, 209). Although it
is illegal, without a clear national standard for addressing gerrymandering, state legislatures get away
with it in federal courts by exploiting the legal ambiguity surrounding the practice. Therefore, taking
the power to redistrict away from state legislatures in the first place is the most viable

Impact Of Social Media On The Workplace
Introduction World organizations are opening up to the idea of usage of social media for reaching out
to the employees. Some Organizations CXOs (CXO means the job titles starts with Chief and ends
with Officer includes: CEO, CFO) still hold reservations about usage of social media for hiring and
seem more comfortable with the more traditional methods like job portals, employee referrals, walk
ins etc. However, with increased pressure on CHROs to keep a check on recruitment budgets, they are
exploring more social media options and we will see a greater momentum in this area in World.
Companies continue to use intranet portal for internal branding and do not seem very open to using
publicly available social media websites. One out of every nine people in the world use Facebook,
with an estimated 700 billion minutes being spent every month on this application, it is interesting to
note that over 2.5 million organizations have a Facebook presence in addition to their corporate
websites. An estimated 250 million people access social media sites through their mobile devices. The
impact that social media has on the daily lives of people is beyond like on Facebook or re tweet on
Twitter. Organizations are feeling the need to be present on not just one social media platform,
however, on ensuring that they are available and listening to all at all times. Commenting on the role
of social media in an interview to the Harvard Business Review, Howard Schlutz (CEO Starbucks)

A Brief Note On Weighted Average Cost Of Capital
WACC (Weighted Average Cost of Capital) according to AstraZeneca
This report will explain what is and how the WACC works and which methods to use for this
particular company, AstraZeneca, with relevant data reference.
What is WACC ?
WACC = E/V x Re + D/V x Rd x (1 Tc)
A calculation of a company s cost of capital in which every source of capital is weighted in proportion
to how much capital it contributes to the company . http://financial
dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/WACC WACC is the acronym of Weighted Average Cost of Capital
which calculates the cost of a company capital from all sources, common stock, preferred stock, long
terms debts bonds ect.., WACC increases respectively when the rate of return on equity and beta
increases which means that the increase of the WACC will indicate the increase in risk and decrease in
valuation, and on the other hand a low WACC will show that the company gets its capital cheap, in
fact WACC it is known as a mixture of cheap debt and expensive equity.
Companies are founded through debt and/ or equity, this organizations or people known as investors
offer their money expecting a return, thus the money they offered plus an additional amount known as
a profit, WACC will in this case show to the investors the opportunity cost of taking the risk on
investing their money on a particular company. The WACC calculations is financially accepted and

Persuasive White House
White is one of those shades that we often avoid at all costs in a kid s bedroom doors since it stains
very easily and takes a lot of work to keep clean and looking great. In most children s bedrooms, the
only place that you will see white is on the ceiling, with most parents taking the stand of banishing
white doors from a kid s bedroom. Here are just a few alternatives that make a great replacement for
white bedroom doors in your child s room: Natural wood finishes are high, but faux wood materials
that are more durable are a better choice. Your priority in a kid s bedroom doors is durability.
Otherwise, you will be replacing the door far more often than you would like. Natural woods are easy
to scratch, stain very easily, and cost a lot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, crayons, food, gum, dirt, mud, pencils, and markers leave marks that are almost
impossible to get rid of totally and to even make a dent in the stain you have to buy special products.
Pen, marker, and gum rarely come off entirely, leaving some trace of the original stain. Some color
options will not have this problem; such as black and some wood finish shades. Consider this
scenario: Your six year old son comes running in the house after an afternoon playing outside. His feet
and hands are covered in mud, grass, and grime, and the first place he is heading is not likely to be the
bathroom if he can sneak past Mom. Browns and black hide more than just stains on your child s
bedroom doors. We mostly consider the entry door for the bedroom, but this also applies to closet
doors and bathroom doors for some kids rooms. Many shades of brown and black hide the stains we
have already gone over, but they also mask scuff marks, small scratches, and minor dings. White doors
show everything, including the smallest ding, nick, mark, scratch, or scrape. As you make plans to do
your spring cleaning or just think about touching up the details in the house, those white doors will
often be the first things that catch your

The Control Of Power In The Pyramids
Power has been a constant source throughout the centuries. It was seen by the Egyptians who forced
slaves to create the pyramids. The Greeks who believed Gods controlled their everyday life, and
constantly feared their own fate. Monarchies that conquered different nations to claim more territory.
There is always a reason behind the control of power, but only the ones who hold the power can see it.
Recently the power has shifted from obvious control of people to surveillance and manipulation.
Power can be changed when all of the information is seen. This movie shows many scenarios that
makes it an allegory to the power that is held in the modern world. This involves manipulation,
technology, enclosure and creating an option of choice. The characters get to choose the way they die
from six different options. None of them are better than the other, but this is the choice they have ...

The only time that the highest order is seen is in the end of the film when the power has been
disrupted. Now the experiment has gone awry, and the Gods are going to come and take over the rest
of the world. The power is now in the hands of the person who was part of the experiment. The one
person who is able to survive while still having a sacrifice. She is now able to choose her fate. Or at
least that is what the lady tells her. She manipulates Dana into deciding to kill her friend in order to
save the world. She sees the reason behind the actions, and automatically agrees with the
conversation. It is not until she is attacked by the werewolf that she recognizes it was not her choice,
but instead manipulated through the conversation. This appears to be the only way the highest power
believed that they were able to ensure the wanting result. To actually explain the reasons behind the
action to the person who can survive. Upper management predicted incorrectly and were unable to see

The Flaws In Early American History Textbooks
To begin, a major flaw in the way American history courses are taught is due to the fact that textbooks
do not allow students to form their own opinions, for everything is presented as fact . This is
exemplified through the way early American life is taught. For example, a controversial topic is the
specific destination of the Mayflower during the Pilgrim s journey to America. Some historians
believe their arrival in Massachusetts was on purpose to be far from Anglican control in Virginia,
while others believe violent storms lead them off track, or there were just navigation errors. The flaw
then arises for all textbooks only pick one, and present it as fact to their readers for they believe it is
the students only way to learn about the past (81). However, a student needs ... Show more content on

American history textbooks always favor Plymouth Rock as the United States birthplace, for earlier
settlements like Jamestown lacked moral and even participated in the first use of chemical warfare
against a tribe, after forcing them to teach the colonists how to farm and taking them as prisoners (84).
However, textbooks overlook this for the more favorable Pilgrims in order to prevent students from
feeling bad about their early ancestors. However, this mindset strips students abilities to apply their
knowledge and come to conclusions on what went right and what went wrong with the settlements in
order to reach an educated perspective on their past. Textbooks believe it necessary to present
everything as fact in order for children to learn and be right , when in reality it hinders students ability
to think for themselves and use the evidence they do have to reason and come to their own
conclusions, which is necessary to promote a deeper level of understanding of America s past and

Marriage in Ancient Roman Culture
Every culture has marriage rituals that help differentiate them from each other. Traditions and customs
in ancient Roman wedding etiquette was not very different from bridal etiquette today. Their wedding
customs have actually set the basis for many modern weddings today. However, there were some
customs that were very important to the Romans that do not completely relate to modern customs. An
engagement ring, the choice of which date and location, the dressing of the bride, and the legalizing of
the marriage itself were all important to the Ancient Roman culture.
Before the actual wedding took place, several things had to happen. The bride had to get engaged.

It s also thought that the Romans were the first to engrave their rings.
The day of the wedding was chosen with great care, to prevent any bad omens. The Romans were very
superstitious, and had to assure that no bad luck should fall on the date of marriage. The months of
May and February were considered months of mourning, so no marriages took place during those
months. Specific days were forbidden as well. Kalends (the first of the month), Nones (the fifth of the
month), and Ides (the fifteenth of the month) were horrible days for weddings. Many people have
heard the expression, Beware the Ides of March. It is known for being an ill fated day because Julius
Caesar was assassinated on this date in 44 B.C.
The morning of the wedding day, the bride had to rise early to pick flowers from her parent s garden to
weave a crown to hold her veil in place. The flowers were said to be a symbol of innocence and purity.
She would wear a flammeum (the wedding veil), which was considered to be a part of the wedding
dress. The flammeum was the bride s rectangular, enveloping veil, which left her face uncovered.
Flammeum means flame, so some believed it was red. However, the veil was dyed a very deep yellow,
much like the flame of a candle. The wedding dress was very special and only worn once, much like
the modern customs today. The bride would wear a wool robe of pure white. Wool was chosen as a
lucky fabric to ward off evil. Around the waist

The Causes And Impacts Of The International Space Station
The International Space Station commonly known as the (ISS) is a large spacecraft that orbits around
Earth. This space station serves as a home for the crews of astronauts and cosmonauts. The space
station is also a unique science laboratory. Several nations such as Canada, Japan, the Russian
Federation, the United States, and eleven Member States of the European Space Agency (Belgium,
Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United
Kingdom) worked together to build and use this space station. The space station is made of parts that
were assembled by astronauts, in space itself. NASA is using this space station to learn more about the
living and working conditions in space. These discoveries will help make it possible for them to find
out if it is feasible to send humans farther into space than ever done in the past.
Political:
The International Space Station was first considered in the waning years of the Cold War. A space
station called Mir was prepared to be launched by the Soviet Union, which went into orbit in 1986.
The United States wanted to match its rival.During his 1984 State of the Union address, President
Ronald Regan announced his plans for a U.S led project. Russia was invited to join the space station
by the United States when they decided to expand their international partnership, after the collapse of
the Soviet Union in 1993. Eugene Skolnikoff, professor emeritus of political science at the

Mandatory Vaccination Paper
Mandatory vaccination continues to be a contentious subject in the United States, even though
extensive evidence proves inoculation prevents certain diseases. According to A. Plotkin L. Plotkin
(2011), the evolution of the first vaccine commenced in the 1700 s when a physician named Edwards
Jenner discovered that cowpox protected individuals from one of the deadliest diseases termed
smallpox. The precise virus Jenner used is unclear; however, it was espoused in the extermination of
smallpox worldwide. The researchers further explained, the unearthing of the subsequent vaccine
known as chicken cholera occurred approximately 80 years later by Louise Pasteur. Ever since,
copious vaccines such as rabies, yellow fever, varicella, pneumococcal, mumps and recently HPV
have been introduced.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2014), reports illnesses such as polio, measles,
rubella, tetanus and pertussis that were previously rampant are now obviated by the influx of vaccines
and has protected the lives of millions of citizens. Moreover, neonates who have a diminished immune
system receive immunoglobins from their mother, yet, the immunity last for about a year. When these

The Pros And Cons Of Portfolio Theory
During the interviews, it was understood that Portfolio Theory is difficult to apply to loaning
administration. A bank is required to have a flexible credit evaluating process to capture the
individuality of each loan. These differences depend on the size of the loan and the different clients
risks. This makes it difficult to apply loan portfolio diversification compared to a portfolio of bonds or
stocks. Nevertheless, more than the fixed principles banks seem to follow the intuition behind it not to
expose themselves more than a limit.
The banks seem to assume that a well diversified loan portfolio will happen on its own as long as it
covers the strategically important regions. The banks have not focused in on a certain industry or
geographical area historically, all the banks seem to rely on their size when it comes to having a well
diversified loan portfolio. They also maintain the individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Stages Of Attachment Of The Infant s Attachment
Stages of attachment. Another of Bowlby s contributions is his proposal that the infant s attachment to
caregiver develops in stages attuned to the infant s cognitive and emotional development. As described
by Broderick Blewitt (2015), a bond emerges from the affect between mother and child in the first two
months as the infant signals their needs by clinging, smiling, and crying. During this stage infants are
not yet attached to anyone and do not discriminate between caregivers. Between their second and
eighth month, infants become increasingly preferential of one caregiver, most often the mother. The
primary indicator of the emerging attachment is whether or not the 7 8 month old infant protests when
separated from their caregiver, and whether they greet the caregivers return with happiness. Soon
thereafter, the infant should begin to develop additional attachments with their fathers, grandparents,
babysitters etc. By 18 months most infants are attached to multiple caregivers (Broderick Blewitt,
2015, p. 135).
Attachment is a system. As mentioned previously, Bowlby also argued that attachment is a system.
Expanding on this, Bowlby proposed that the system serves three purposes; 1) It maintains proximity
between infant and caregiver, nurturing the emotional bond In attachment theory this is known as
proximity maintenance, 2) It provides the potential for on going protection known as a secure base, 3)
It creates a haven for the infant when distressed

Rainbow Formation Research Paper
Everyone enjoys the site of a rainbow expected after it rains on a sunny day; however, although a
rainbow formation is basic optics and geometry, it is highly misunderstood. Many understand the
appearance due to dispersion of light, but most do not realize what that entitles. What most people do
not expect when looking at a rainbow is that it moves as the observer moves (Cartwright, 1992).
Shown in the photo to the left, is a rainbow taken along the countryside in Missoula, Montana. To
further discuss how a rainbow works, one must understand the reflection refraction theories that cause
such a formation. A wave theory of light developed by Auguste Fresnel describes the bands that are
located beneath a rainbow, which are not as visible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rays of light come from a fixed direction as bundles, which always are red proving a greater
concentration of light from that fixed direction. This ray is called a caustic ray (Bim 1999). As the
height y of an incident ray increases from 0, the deflection of the outgoing ray decreases towards the
caustic ray, causing the y to pass the caustic ray, and the deflection increases again (Gordon de Pree,
Ph.D, 20) In specific conditions, the observer can see a secondary rainbow behind the primary
rainbow weaker and inverse in spectra, with red on the inside and violet on the outside. According to
Cartwright s article on Rainbows, the space between red and violet, regardless of direction, is called
the Alexander s Dark band, which is noticeably darker than its surroundings. This way of looking at

Breakfast of Champions: Science Fiction as Social Commentary
Vonnegut s symbolic and satirical representation of humans as robots in his novel: Breakfast of
Champions is representative of the authors interpretation of world events and conflicting nature of
human beings. The renowned author often hits on significant and worrisome themes such as
destruction of the planet and overpopulation. His unique and unparallel style includes outrageous and
often unrealistic chain of event that are obviously symbolic and relevant to the story as well as the
author s attitude on a particular subject matter. For instance in describing when Kilgore Trout writes
his stories, he does not save them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are introduced into the story as outsiders almost, as if we did not belong to the planet, as if we
were not human. This kind of insight creates a whole different kind of attitude on the events that are
happening within. Science fiction, theoretically attempts to do just that. To make the ordinary seem
strange, in order to provide critique to a specific subject matter in order to let the reader rethink his or
her own attitude on the matter at hand. Certainly this is that case here as well. Having this third party
perspective allows for us to rethink our entire attitudes on relevant social and secular issues
dominating at the time. For instance such a moment that sticks out is the description of women s
underwear. And the madness about wide open beavers was extended to underpants when Dwayne and
Trout and I were boys. Girls concealed their underpants at all costs, and boys tried to see their
underpants at all coasts (Vonnegut, 27). Below the paragraph is a picture of the very underpants he
spoke of that portrays, literary, a critique of how insignificant and unworthy the massive social
outbursts on debates were on nude or nearly nude depictions of women in popular magazines when
compared to other issues that plagued the world.
One passage sticks out in particular when it comes to issues that Vonnegut considers relevant: The
Creator of the Universe would like to apologize not only for the capricious,

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are autoimmune disease whose incidence and prevalence are
increasing worldwide. The two major types of IBD are ulcerative colitis (UC), which is limited to the
colonic mucosa, and Crohn disease (CD), which can affect any segment of the gastrointestinal tract
from the mouth to the anus, involves skip lesions , and is transmural. There is a genetic predisposition
for IBD, and patients with this condition are more prone to the development of malignancy. Although
both UC and CD have distinct pathologic findings, approximately 10 15% of patients cannot be
classified into either type; in such patients, the disease is labeled as indeterminate colitis. Systemic
symptoms are common in IBD and include fever, sweats, malaise, and arthralgias. UC and CD share
many extraintestinal manifestations, although some of these tend to occur more commonly with either
condition. Eye skin mouth joint extraintestinal manifestations (such as oral aphthae, erythema

Essay on George Washington Carver
George Washington Carver was born into slavery January of 1860 on the Moses Carver plantation in
Diamond Grove, Missouri. He spent the first year of his life, the brutal days of border war, between
Missouri and neighboring Kansas. George was a very sickly child with a whooping cough, which later
lead to his speech impediment, and he was tiny and puny. George s father, James Carver, died in a
wood hauling accident when he was bringing wood to his master s house one day. George was sick a
great deal during his early years. In 1861, when George was one year old, raiders kidnapped him and
his mother with horses from their home in Missouri. Moses Carver, Mary s master, heard that a

for knowledge and desire for formal education led him to several communities in Missouri and Kansas
Later he moved to Fort Scott, Kansas to attend High school. In 1890, to Indiana, Iowa were he
enrolled at Simpson College to study piano and painting. In 1891 he got admission in Iowa State

Dieter s job involved a repetitive task: using a straight pole with a hook on the end to pull out the
polystyrene bin liner from each empty kiwifruit bin as it passed by on the conveyor line. After this
task, the bins moved along on the conveyor at a slow and steady pace until they reached a stacking
machine. This machine was an automatic forklift that stacked five empty bins on top of one another
ready for moving along to be loaded on to trucks for transport back to the orchard. Here they were
filled again, and the process repeated. On the night of the incident, Dieter had started his shift on time
at 11.00pm. He had been in his job for 19 days, working an average of 50 hours a week. He had his
normal break at 1.15am. At about 2.00am he missed removing a bin liner. He then left his work station
and followed that bin on its journey along the conveyor belt to try and remove the liner before the bin
was stacked by the automatic forklift. This was a practice he and other workers had observed and
carried out several times, even though they were expected to leave missed bin liners, and not leave
their work station. While Dieter was trying to retrieve the missed bin liner, he either slipped or was
knocked by one of the stacker forks, causing him to become jammed by the forks that continued to
come down on his head as they tried to pick up the bin. His screams were heard and a

Summary Of Journal Of Ponce De Leon
Journal of Ponce De Leon Entry #1 September 24 The date is September 24,1493 we are about to set
off on a journey across the Atlantic Ocean. I had heard that the Taino Indians speak of a magic
fountain and a rejuvenating river somewhere to the north of Cuba. I know that If I can discover the
Fountain of Youth then I will go down in history as the world s greatest explorer. Journal of Ponce De
Leon Entry #2 April 8 After a long journey I have finally reached land which shall be named La
Florida. It s time to begin the search the Fountain of Youth awaits. We have had several clashes with
several indians but none as great as this one with the sound of musket fire and Indian war cries the
epic battle rages on. We are outnumbered three to one, and it keeps getting worse. It seems as though
we are running out of ammo, but we keep strong; this is for conquest and discovery, but if anything
this resistance could mean we are getting close. Journal of Ponce De Leon Entry #3 April 15 We have
started to rely on our swords to conserve ammunition, but I don t know if we can hold out. We ve
managed to even the odds ever slightly, and it seems like now the odds are two to one, and they have
the advantage of numbers. We have several well trained men on our side, but it appears as if they were
trained as well except it seems my men are better trained. I ve noticed that It appears as though their
main objective is not to eliminate us, but it appears as if there guarding something and

Walter Lee Younger s Characteristics
Walter Lee Youngers Characteristics In the 1920 s, many African American families had left the
southern states and migrated north to Chicago s South Side in search of the American Dream ,
dreaming of freedom, equality, and the opportunity that was supposed to be available to every
American. This American Dream was sought by many African Americans in the U.S. Written by
Lorraine Hansberry and produced in 1959, The play: A Raisin in the Sun, gave readers a strong
meaning about the values of dreams and the struggles in fulfilling them. Unlike other plays that
contain one main character, A Raisin in the Sun consisted of having two main characters: Walter and

reader is likely to feel that he is being inconsiderate by failing to acknowledge that the money does not
belong to him, it belongs to Mama and should be up to her how to spend it. Furthermore, Walter acts
selfishly and is inconsiderate of what his mother wants. An example of Walter acting selfishly is
located towards the end of Act I, scene II. It is Saturday, and Walter has just returned home from work.
He is only concerned of the checks arrival; he fails to greet his family. He tries showing Mama the
paperwork that his friend Willy put together for the liquor store, and becomes upset that Mama wanted

Milton Friedman, An American Economist
When most of us think of the words opportunity cost, price, production, and service, we think of
something related to obtaining or giving something. According to Merriam Webster, opportunity cost
is defined as, the added cost of using resources (as for production or speculative investment) that is the
difference between the actual value resulting from such use and that of an alternative (as another use
of the same resources or an investment of equal risk but greater return). Price, is defined as the amount
of money that you pay for something or that something costs. Production, is defined as the process of
making or growing something for sale or use, and lastly, service, is defined as, the occupation or
function of serving. Milton Friedman, an American economist, would say, nothing in live is free, that
is, if you want something, you have to give something. These four words can all be tied together and
used to give and receive. We can either use it to our benefit or simply perform it. We could get the
most out of life using these four words, opportunity cost, price, production, and service, by primary
accepting that everything in life is obtained at a cost, acknowledging that they can be used as forward
looking concepts, and agreeing to do everything yourself instead of hiring someone to do it in your
place. Multiple people simply cannot accept the fact that everything obtained in life comes at a cost.
Whether it be monetary or emotional even, you will have to give up

Cannibalism Essay examples
There are so many bad things in the world but according to many, cannibalism is considered just about
the worst. Depending on your point of view, it rises above even such criminal abominations as, rape
and genocide. Then again, we live in a culture, in which people would run vomiting to the bathroom if
they saw what went into making their McDonald s hamburgers.
Cannibalism, also known as anthropophagi, is defined as the act or practice of eating members of the
same species. The word anthropophagi comes from the Arawakan language name for the Carib
Indians of the West Indies. The Caribs are well known for their practice of cannibalism. Among
humans, this practice has been attributed to people in the past all over the world, including ... Show

Among humans, cannibalism has been widespread in prehistoric societies on all continents. It is still
believed to be practiced in remote areas of the island of New Guinea. It existed until recently in parts
of West and Central Africa, Sumatra, Melanesia, and Polynesia. It also existed among various Indian
tribes of North and South America and among aborigines of Australia and the Maoris of New Zealand.
The reasons for cannibalism have varied. Sometimes there was simply limited food. Some groups
liked the taste of human flesh. However, mostly the reasons had to do with revenge or punishment for
crimes, ceremony and ritual, or magic. Some victorious tribes ate their dead enemies to absorb their
strength. In come rituals, the deceased were eaten by relatives, as a manner of reverence or honor for
their ancestors, or as a desire for the soul of the dead to be reborn in the body of the consumer. This is
called endocannablism.
Civilized people have to resort to cannibalism from time to time, as a mean of survival, under
desperate circumstances. The story of the Donner Party is one of the more tragic incidents in
American frontier history. A group of about 90 immigrants led by George Donner was caught in a
blinding snowstorm in the Sierra Nevada range of California in October 1846. Survivors, who made
their way out early in 1847,

Apparel Industry
Introduction International trade is a crucial component of the apparel industry. For this assignment, I
have gathered data spanning from 2005 to 2015 to analyze importing and exporting between the
United States and Thailand. By using the two databases OTEXA and UN Comtrade database, I was
able to identify trends in terms of both units and US dollars. Otexa Overall, the United States
consistently imports more textiles than apparel from Thailand and the amount has considerably
decreased over the 10 year span. In terms of Textiles, 1,051,815,014 units were imported from
Thailand in 2005, which was the most in all 10 years. It continued to decrease slightly each year, but
rose again in 2010 when 808,673,679 units were imported. For 2011 and ... Show more content on

value of apparel imported ranges anywhere from $502,136,945 to $641,985,816. However, in 2009
value of apparel decreased a little over one hundred million dollars. Following the decrease, value
slowly began to increase as the years went one. The value of non apparel is considerably less and stays

Effectiveness Of The CLAS Literature Review
According to Guerrero (2012), in the past, there were federal and state campaigns that attempted to get
mental health agencies to provide cultural competence in the delivery of their services. However, it
was not until recently that initiatives have been made that require mental health organizations to
provide evidence of the use of cultural competence in their services. Guerrero also states that the
regulation of cultural competence standards was thought to have been poorly monitored prior to the
1990s, and that the regulation of CLAS standards did not begin until the 1990s. For example, the Joint
Commission now requires the use of the CLAS standards in order to get professional accreditation
(Guerrero, 2012). Also, educational institutions use CLAS standards to help with professional training
in working with diverse populations. Professional associations, such as the American Psychological
Association, have regulations that require cultural competence standards be practiced by many of the
graduate programs. In addition, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act mandates that health care and mental
health care organizations who receive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

services and programs, however, they did not describe the types of innovations

Environment Studies
CHAPTER NO: 01 1. Define the importance of Environmental Studies. Answer: Environment is
derived from the French word Environ which means to encircle or surround. ENVIRONMENT is sum
total of water, air, and land, inter relationships among themselves and also with the human beings,
other living organisms and property. The above definition given in Environment Act, 1986 clearly
indicates that environment includes all the physical and biological surroundings and their interactions.

forests and phytoplankton in the oceans (these capture carbon dioxide 59% land, 41% oceans hold
moisture and soil, preserve species, moderate the environment and give off oxygen). 2) World wide
soil erosion and desertification (the world has lost 1/5 of its arable land in the last decade). Causes:
raising beef, lumbering, use of word for fuel, clear cutting for crops or profit). 3) Worldwide burning
of fossil fuels, primarily oil and coal, and burning of wood in the third world. 4) Harming of forests,
lakes, and their ecosystems by acid rain (including Alaska, Canada, Norway, Eastern U.S., Germany,
etc.) 5) Proliferation of nuclear waste hazards, and massive amounts of other toxic waste. 6) World
wide shrinking of fresh water supplied through pollution and diminishing aquifers. 7) Spreading ozone
holes resulting from long lasting chlorofluorocarbon gases. 8) Massive extinction of species
worldwide connected with the above factors. 9) Flooding of coastal areas world wide as the ocean

agricultural lands.

Sources of Air Pollution in Sidney
Motor vehicle emissions remain the highest source of air pollution in Australian major cities with
Sydney holding the record for the worst air quality in Australia. Although Sydney has comparatively
better levels of air quality compared to other major cities in the world, air pollution is still a major
environmental and health issue. The NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change have put
the cost of this issue to human health at more than $4.7 billion each year in the greater metropolitan
area. Health experts have also estimated that air pollution cause up to 1400 deaths per year in Sydney
alone, and up to 2000 hospital admissions for respiratory and cardiovascular illnesses. In a 2004
statement by the CSIRO, the mortality rate due to air pollution in Australia (approximately 2,400
deaths each year at the time) was higher than the road toll (approximately 1,700 deaths each year at
the time), and these estimates have only risen in recent years as medical science gains a better
understanding of the link between air pollution, health problems, and the significant cost to our
economy. The cause of this pollution can be put down to Sydney s ever growing vehicle numbers.
According to the NSW Government s 2009 State of The Environment Report, vehicle ownership
growth now outstrips the population growth as each household is now estimated to own 1.49 cars and
take 16.3 million car trips totalling 132 million kilometres daily. Hence a combination of both
economic incentives and

Examples Of Dysfunctional Relationships
Dysfunctional People in Relationships
Have you ever wondered why some people stay in a dysfunctional relationship? Dysfunctional
relationships are relationships that do not perform their appropriate function. In The Yellow Wallpaper,
The narrator is a doctor who although probably filled with good intentions, comes off seeming
domineering. The narrator and her husband move into a manor for the summer to help her with her
temporary nervous depression a slight hysterical tendency. Female patients were not to listened to by
male patients, but because back then women were not in positions of power. The two main reasons
why their relationship is dysfunctional is the way John treats the narrator and the fact that she has
postpartum depression so she is not herself.
The medical world has changed a lot since back then. For instance, there were no female doctors at
that time. In the 1800 s, much was unknown in the terms of health. The mortality rate was high and
life expectancy was low. Parents, rich or poor, had no way of combating the deadly diseases and
infections that often took their children s lives. Deadly outbreaks of cholera ( an infection in the small
intestine) to the flu were, understandably, a leading cause of death in children at the time. After all,
children s immune systems are not fully developed and are therefore weaker in the terms of fighting
off these fatal diseases. Medicine has advanced dramatically from the 1800 s to the present.Today,
although not all children are healthy if any, foods available to them, the overall diet of children has
improved. Also, with what is known
about diseases and transmission, many deadly diseases are under control. Luckily, today it is much
more common for people also have regular checkups with the doctor, from the time they are in the
womb through adulthood.
One reason why John and the narrator s relationship is dysfunctional is that John treats the narrator
like a child. The relationship between the narrator and John is not overly loving, but unlike many
people, I do not believe that John was intentionally trying to hurt her. John cares about his wife, he
just refuses to admit that his own prescribed treatment may, in fact, be the wrong treatment. John

Huey P. Newton And The Black Panther Party
During the late 1960 s and early 70 s posters of the Black Panther Party s co founder, Huey P. Newton
were plastered on walls of college dorm rooms across the country. Wearing a black beret and a leather
jacket, sitting on a wicker chair, a spear in one hand and a rifle in the other, the poster depicted Huey
Newton as a symbol of his generation s anger and courage in the face of racism and imperialism
(Albert and Hoffman 4, 45). His intellectual capacity and community leadership abilities helped to

It is out of this change of the movement s focus where Huey arrives at the idea for Black youth to
openly display weapons. This action would be soon to serve as a founding principal within the
Panthers. Eventually serving as a founding principal of the Panthers, Huey s suggestion for a
demonstration of armed protest was inspired by Malcolm X s philosophy for self defense. The SSAC s
rejection of Brothers On the Block , eventually led to Huey and Bobby s resignation from the Campus
Organization. Fed up with the increasing police brutality towards African Americans and the SSAC
rejection of Brothers On the Block , Huey and Bobby decided to form an organization to monitor
police behavior in black neighborhoods and protect the rights of African Americans. This organization
was the Black Panther Party for Self Defense (BPP). The Panthers stormed into American history in
1966 when Huey P. Newton wrote the platform for the party. The platform made an aggressive call for
power to determine the destiny of our black community . with the immediate emphasis on the need
for organizing black defense groups to end police brutality. Huey and Bobby created a uniform for
the Panthers demonstrating the seriousness and discipline of the Party s platform. The Black Panthers
first action was to follow Oakland Police cars, either on foot or in cars, while dressed in black pants,
black leather jackets, starched blue shirts and black berets, carrying loaded shot guns. The Oakland

The Pros And Cons Of Reconstruction After The End Of The...
Reconstruction began early in 1865 after the end of the civil war when the South was undergoing
political, social and economic upheavals (Foner 15). The South embraced Union methods of total wars
that led to damage to their land and crops. As a result, many people died while others were captured as
slaves due to the huge drought and inflation facing their state, while their masters fled oncoming
unions. From these losses, policymakers by 1865 in Washington had no other choice rather than
reconstruction. Reconstruction involved several initiatives including abolishment and transformation
of the Southern society, recovering the Southern Unions and most importantly the enactment of an
assimilation legislation program that would aid in favoring the freed blacks into the American social
and economic system. President Lincoln had pardoned reconstruction of the South long before in1863
two years before the war ended (Kennedy and Cohen 44). This was known as the ten percent plan that
supported one of the initiatives. This plan allowed the Southern state to be assimilated to the union
after every ten percent of the population. Later in the year 1865 president Lincoln got assassinated and
Andrew Johnson succeeded him. President Johnson carried on with the ten percent plan. Both
presidents shared a similar interest during their reign which was to abolish slavery before joining the
union.
The radical republic congress as well admitted that the Southern States had to be transformed fully

  • 2. Dream Interpretation For Beginners Summary A person opens their eyes and realizes that they are are on a gigantic chocolate chip cookie boat, flowing down a warm, white, milky river. When the person looks all around from the milky river, the person sees mountains that are made of ice cream and are topped with whipped cream and cherries on top. They are in paradise. They awake to a loud sound, and as the milky river and ice cream mountains fade away, they realize it was all just a dream. Dreams are a series of thoughts, images and sensations that occur in a person s mind when they are sleep. Peoples views on dreaming today are similar yet different in a way, from what people believed back then. Sigmund Freud s beliefs and theories were believed by many people, including one of his theories called day residue. There are several facts and information on the scientific background behind dreaming, such as the sleeping and dreaming structure, rapid eye movement sleep, and non rapid eye movement sleep. There is also a lot of information on the content of dreams and the interpretations of them. What ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One statement she says is that, it is while we are sleeping that were consolidating and moving to more permanent storage the events experienced and things learned during the day or preceding day (Brandon 44). In other words, she is saying that what we dream could strongly be related to what we have learned or done the day of or the day before. For example, if a student is reading a certain novel and learning about events from it, that student might have a dream regarding what he or she is reading or learning about. On a different subject, dreams can play out the final scene of our problems during the day while we sleep. They can do this by processing all of the emotions that a person faces throughout their daily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of Oliver Twist The word money sums up a theme that Dickens has been preoccupied with in many of his novels . Dickens has studied the nineteenth century commercially oriented England and observed the corrupting influence of money on members and deplorably , suggesting how material possessions have become the criterion of evaluating a human being . Dickens s critics are well aware of this devastating influence . Humphry House confidently tells us that Dickens s plots and characters are , constructed round an attitude to money . Social status without it is subordinate . 1 This however , is a general comment on the Dickensian text . But in Oliver Twist , the theme gathers momentum and unfolds itself in a manner that attracts our attention , hence its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is neither a revolutionist who believes in collective action against the oppressive institution of capitalism , nor a deserter who betrays the cause of the working class . He shows an individualistic action in facing extremes and incarnates his belief in individual responsibility and freedom of choice . 6 With the Victorian novelists , the scope of imagination takes a further step by being regarded as a shared experience between the artist and the reader . We may do well here by recalling one of Dickens s approaches to involve the reader in the narrative action through his use of humour which becomes a connective agent . In The Life of Charles Dickens , Forster defends Dickens s humour in terms of its effect on us : To perceive relation in things which are not apparent generally , is one of those exquisite properties of humour which brings us all upon the level of ... • 4. Gerrymandering In The American Political System There are obvious flaws in the American political system. However, gerrymandering, which has been undermining American democracy since the nation s birth, has remained widely unknown. Gerrymandering, which occurs across the United States, is used by Democrats and Republicans to maximize the number of congressional seats they capture. Every ten years, the government conducts a census. Following the census, state legislatures redraw congressional districts to reflect population changes. However, state legislatures are often controlled by a single political party that unfairly redraws congressional districts in order to win more seats in the House of Representatives (Ingraham). Politicians concentrate the voting strength of the opposition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1842, Congress passed the Apportionment Act, which required congressional districts to be compact and equal in population ( Apportionment Legislation 1840 1880 ). Although the law made an initial effort to curb gerrymandering, it failed to adequately define compact. Over a century later, in the 1962 court case Baker v. Carr, the Supreme Court ruled that congressional districts must have reasonable boundaries. The court further deemed redistricting issues to be justiciable, enabling federal courts to decide gerrymandering cases ( Baker v. Carr ). It wasn t until the 1985 Davis v. Bandemer case that the Supreme Court ruled that manipulating district boundaries for political gains is unconstitutional ( Davis v. Bandemer ). However, the Supreme Court left unanswered one pivotal question: What are the standards for identifying and litigating a gerrymander? (Hess, 209). Although it is illegal, without a clear national standard for addressing gerrymandering, state legislatures get away with it in federal courts by exploiting the legal ambiguity surrounding the practice. Therefore, taking the power to redistrict away from state legislatures in the first place is the most viable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some Organizations CXOs (CXO means the job titles starts with Chief and ends with Officer includes: CEO, CFO) still hold reservations about usage of social media for hiring and seem more comfortable with the more traditional methods like job portals, employee referrals, walk ins etc. However, with increased pressure on CHROs to keep a check on recruitment budgets, they are exploring more social media options and we will see a greater momentum in this area in World. Companies continue to use intranet portal for internal branding and do not seem very open to using publicly available social media websites. One out of every nine people in the world use Facebook, with an estimated 700 billion minutes being spent every month on this application, it is interesting to note that over 2.5 million organizations have a Facebook presence in addition to their corporate websites. An estimated 250 million people access social media sites through their mobile devices. The impact that social media has on the daily lives of people is beyond like on Facebook or re tweet on Twitter. Organizations are feeling the need to be present on not just one social media platform, however, on ensuring that they are available and listening to all at all times. • 7. Persuasive White House White is one of those shades that we often avoid at all costs in a kid s bedroom doors since it stains very easily and takes a lot of work to keep clean and looking great. In most children s bedrooms, the only place that you will see white is on the ceiling, with most parents taking the stand of banishing white doors from a kid s bedroom. Here are just a few alternatives that make a great replacement for white bedroom doors in your child s room: Natural wood finishes are high, but faux wood materials that are more durable are a better choice. Your priority in a kid s bedroom doors is durability. Otherwise, you will be replacing the door far more often than you would like. Natural woods are easy to scratch, stain very easily, and cost a lot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, crayons, food, gum, dirt, mud, pencils, and markers leave marks that are almost impossible to get rid of totally and to even make a dent in the stain you have to buy special products. Pen, marker, and gum rarely come off entirely, leaving some trace of the original stain. Some color options will not have this problem; such as black and some wood finish shades. Consider this scenario: Your six year old son comes running in the house after an afternoon playing outside. His feet and hands are covered in mud, grass, and grime, and the first place he is heading is not likely to be the bathroom if he can sneak past Mom. Browns and black hide more than just stains on your child s bedroom doors. We mostly consider the entry door for the bedroom, but this also applies to closet doors and bathroom doors for some kids rooms. Many shades of brown and black hide the stains we have already gone over, but they also mask scuff marks, small scratches, and minor dings. White doors show everything, including the smallest ding, nick, mark, scratch, or scrape. As you make plans to do your spring cleaning or just think about touching up the details in the house, those white doors will often be the first things that catch your ... The Greeks who believed Gods controlled their everyday life, and constantly feared their own fate. Monarchies that conquered different nations to claim more territory. There is always a reason behind the control of power, but only the ones who hold the power can see it. Recently the power has shifted from obvious control of people to surveillance and manipulation. Power can be changed when all of the information is seen. This movie shows many scenarios that makes it an allegory to the power that is held in the modern world. The one person who is able to survive while still having a sacrifice. She is now able to choose her fate. Or at least that is what the lady tells her. She manipulates Dana into deciding to kill her friend in order to save the world. She sees the reason behind the actions, and automatically agrees with the conversation. It is not until she is attacked by the werewolf that she recognizes it was not her choice, but instead manipulated through the conversation. • 9. The Flaws In Early American History Textbooks To begin, a major flaw in the way American history courses are taught is due to the fact that textbooks do not allow students to form their own opinions, for everything is presented as fact . This is exemplified through the way early American life is taught. For example, a controversial topic is the specific destination of the Mayflower during the Pilgrim s journey to America. Some historians believe their arrival in Massachusetts was on purpose to be far from Anglican control in Virginia, while others believe violent storms lead them off track, or there were just navigation errors. The flaw then arises for all textbooks only pick one, and present it as fact to their readers for they believe it is the students only way to learn about the past (81). However, a student needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... American history textbooks always favor Plymouth Rock as the United States birthplace, for earlier settlements like Jamestown lacked moral and even participated in the first use of chemical warfare against a tribe, after forcing them to teach the colonists how to farm and taking them as prisoners (84). However, textbooks overlook this for the more favorable Pilgrims in order to prevent students from feeling bad about their early ancestors. However, this mindset strips students abilities to apply their knowledge and come to conclusions on what went right and what went wrong with the settlements in order to reach an educated perspective on their past. Traditions and customs in ancient Roman wedding etiquette was not very different from bridal etiquette today. Their wedding customs have actually set the basis for many modern weddings today. However, there were some customs that were very important to the Romans that do not completely relate to modern customs. An engagement ring, the choice of which date and location, the dressing of the bride, and the legalizing of the marriage itself were all important to the Ancient Roman culture. The Romans were very superstitious, and had to assure that no bad luck should fall on the date of marriage. The months of May and February were considered months of mourning, so no marriages took place during those months. Specific days were forbidden as well. Kalends (the first of the month), Nones (the fifth of the month), and Ides (the fifteenth of the month) were horrible days for weddings. Many people have heard the expression, Beware the Ides of March. It is known for being an ill fated day because Julius Caesar was assassinated on this date in 44 B.C. The morning of the wedding day, the bride had to rise early to pick flowers from her parent s garden to weave a crown to hold her veil in place. The flowers were said to be a symbol of innocence and purity. She would wear a flammeum (the wedding veil), which was considered to be a part of the wedding dress. The flammeum was the bride s rectangular, enveloping veil, which left her face uncovered. Flammeum means flame, so some believed it was red. However, the veil was dyed a very deep yellow, much like the flame of a candle. The wedding dress was very special and only worn once, much like the modern customs today. This space station serves as a home for the crews of astronauts and cosmonauts. The space station is also a unique science laboratory. Several nations such as Canada, Japan, the Russian Federation, the United States, and eleven Member States of the European Space Agency (Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom) worked together to build and use this space station. The space station is made of parts that were assembled by astronauts, in space itself. NASA is using this space station to learn more about the living and working conditions in space. These discoveries will help make it possible for them to find out if it is feasible to send humans farther into space than ever done in the past. Political: The International Space Station was first considered in the waning years of the Cold War. A space station called Mir was prepared to be launched by the Soviet Union, which went into orbit in 1986. The United States wanted to match its rival.During his 1984 State of the Union address, President Ronald Regan announced his plans for a U.S led project. • 12. Mandatory Vaccination Paper Mandatory vaccination continues to be a contentious subject in the United States, even though extensive evidence proves inoculation prevents certain diseases. According to A. Plotkin L. Plotkin (2011), the evolution of the first vaccine commenced in the 1700 s when a physician named Edwards Jenner discovered that cowpox protected individuals from one of the deadliest diseases termed smallpox. The precise virus Jenner used is unclear; however, it was espoused in the extermination of smallpox worldwide. The researchers further explained, the unearthing of the subsequent vaccine known as chicken cholera occurred approximately 80 years later by Louise Pasteur. Ever since, copious vaccines such as rabies, yellow fever, varicella, pneumococcal, mumps and recently HPV have been introduced. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2014), reports illnesses such as polio, measles, rubella, tetanus and pertussis that were previously rampant are now obviated by the influx of vaccines and has protected the lives of millions of citizens. A bank is required to have a flexible credit evaluating process to capture the individuality of each loan. These differences depend on the size of the loan and the different clients risks. This makes it difficult to apply loan portfolio diversification compared to a portfolio of bonds or stocks. Nevertheless, more than the fixed principles banks seem to follow the intuition behind it not to expose themselves more than a limit. The banks seem to assume that a well diversified loan portfolio will happen on its own as long as it covers the strategically important regions. • 15. Stages Of Attachment Of The Infant s Attachment Stages of attachment. Another of Bowlby s contributions is his proposal that the infant s attachment to caregiver develops in stages attuned to the infant s cognitive and emotional development. As described by Broderick Blewitt (2015), a bond emerges from the affect between mother and child in the first two months as the infant signals their needs by clinging, smiling, and crying. During this stage infants are not yet attached to anyone and do not discriminate between caregivers. Between their second and eighth month, infants become increasingly preferential of one caregiver, most often the mother. The primary indicator of the emerging attachment is whether or not the 7 8 month old infant protests when separated from their caregiver, and whether they greet the caregivers return with happiness. Soon thereafter, the infant should begin to develop additional attachments with their fathers, grandparents, babysitters etc. By 18 months most infants are attached to multiple caregivers (Broderick Blewitt, 2015, p. 135). Attachment is a system. As mentioned previously, Bowlby also argued that attachment is a system. Expanding on this, Bowlby proposed that the system serves three purposes; 1) It maintains proximity between infant and caregiver, nurturing the emotional bond In attachment theory this is known as proximity maintenance, 2) It provides the potential for on going protection known as a secure base, 3) It creates a haven for the infant when distressed ... Rainbow Formation Research Paper Everyone enjoys the site of a rainbow expected after it rains on a sunny day; however, although a rainbow formation is basic optics and geometry, it is highly misunderstood. Many understand the appearance due to dispersion of light, but most do not realize what that entitles. What most people do not expect when looking at a rainbow is that it moves as the observer moves (Cartwright, 1992). Shown in the photo to the left, is a rainbow taken along the countryside in Missoula, Montana. According to Cartwright s article on Rainbows, the space between red and violet, regardless of direction, is called the Alexander s Dark band, which is noticeably darker than its surroundings. The two major types of IBD are ulcerative colitis (UC), which is limited to the colonic mucosa, and Crohn disease (CD), which can affect any segment of the gastrointestinal tract from the mouth to the anus, involves skip lesions , and is transmural. There is a genetic predisposition for IBD, and patients with this condition are more prone to the development of malignancy. Although both UC and CD have distinct pathologic findings, approximately 10 15% of patients cannot be classified into either type; in such patients, the disease is labeled as indeterminate colitis. Systemic symptoms are common in IBD and include fever, sweats, malaise, and arthralgias. UC and CD share many extraintestinal manifestations, although some of these tend to occur more commonly with either condition. Eye skin mouth joint extraintestinal manifestations (such as oral aphthae, erythema nodosum, large joint arthritis, and episcleritis) reflect active disease, whereas pyoderma gangrenosum, primary sclerosing cholangitis, ankylosing spondylitis, uveitis, kidney stones, and gallstones may occur in quiescent disease. According to Merriam Webster, opportunity cost is defined as, the added cost of using resources (as for production or speculative investment) that is the difference between the actual value resulting from such use and that of an alternative (as another use of the same resources or an investment of equal risk but greater return). Price, is defined as the amount of money that you pay for something or that something costs. Effectiveness Of The CLAS Literature Review According to Guerrero (2012), in the past, there were federal and state campaigns that attempted to get mental health agencies to provide cultural competence in the delivery of their services. However, it was not until recently that initiatives have been made that require mental health organizations to provide evidence of the use of cultural competence in their services. Guerrero also states that the regulation of cultural competence standards was thought to have been poorly monitored prior to the 1990s, and that the regulation of CLAS standards did not begin until the 1990s. For example, the Joint Commission now requires the use of the CLAS standards in order to get professional accreditation (Guerrero, 2012). Also, educational institutions use CLAS standards to help with professional training in working with diverse populations. Professional associations, such as the American Psychological Association, have regulations that require cultural competence standards be practiced by many of the graduate programs. In addition, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act mandates that health care and mental health care organizations who receive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These researchers reviewed programs that served disadvantaged populations in several states (e.g. Maryland, Massachusetts, Texas, Washington, and Alaska) who were following the CLAS standards. They found that the organizations were effective in providing services and were able to meet the needs of the clients being served. They also found that the programs were successful at incorporating the standards into their existing services. Putsch et al (2003) concluded that the organizations that were successful at implementing the CLAS standards found innovative ways to integrate them into their services and programs, however, they did not describe the types of innovations ... • 29. Environment Studies CHAPTER NO: 01 1. Define the importance of Environmental Studies. Answer: Environment is derived from the French word Environ which means to encircle or surround. ENVIRONMENT is sum total of water, air, and land, inter relationships among themselves and also with the human beings, other living organisms and property. The above definition given in Environment Act, 1986 clearly indicates that environment includes all the physical and biological surroundings and their interactions. ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES: It is multidisciplinary in nature covering chemistry, physics, biology, geography, mathematics, statistics, medicine, and engineering and making use of this for saving the environment for long time utilization. Scope of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus water has become quite a scare commodity that few countries and civilizations seem to take into consideration. 3. Discuss the global environmental crisis in brief. Answer: 1) Global destruction of forests and phytoplankton in the oceans (these capture carbon dioxide 59% land, 41% oceans hold moisture and soil, preserve species, moderate the environment and give off oxygen). 2) World wide soil erosion and desertification (the world has lost 1/5 of its arable land in the last decade). Causes: raising beef, lumbering, use of word for fuel, clear cutting for crops or profit). 3) Worldwide burning of fossil fuels, primarily oil and coal, and burning of wood in the third world. 4) Harming of forests, lakes, and their ecosystems by acid rain (including Alaska, Canada, Norway, Eastern U.S., Germany, etc.) 5) Proliferation of nuclear waste hazards, and massive amounts of other toxic waste. 6) World wide shrinking of fresh water supplied through pollution and diminishing aquifers. 7) Spreading ozone holes resulting from long lasting chlorofluorocarbon gases. 8) Massive extinction of species worldwide connected with the above factors. 9) Flooding of coastal areas world wide as the ocean levels rise: displacing hundreds of millions of people and burying a large portion of the world s prime agricultural lands. ... • 30. Sources of Air Pollution in Sidney Motor vehicle emissions remain the highest source of air pollution in Australian major cities with Sydney holding the record for the worst air quality in Australia. Although Sydney has comparatively better levels of air quality compared to other major cities in the world, air pollution is still a major environmental and health issue. The NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change have put the cost of this issue to human health at more than $4.7 billion each year in the greater metropolitan area. Health experts have also estimated that air pollution cause up to 1400 deaths per year in Sydney alone, and up to 2000 hospital admissions for respiratory and cardiovascular illnesses. In a 2004 statement by the CSIRO, the mortality rate due to air pollution in Australia (approximately 2,400 deaths each year at the time) was higher than the road toll (approximately 1,700 deaths each year at the time), and these estimates have only risen in recent years as medical science gains a better understanding of the link between air pollution, health problems, and the significant cost to our economy. The cause of this pollution can be put down to Sydney s ever growing vehicle numbers. According to the NSW Government s 2009 State of The Environment Report, vehicle ownership growth now outstrips the population growth as each household is now estimated to own 1.49 cars and take 16.3 million car trips totalling 132 million kilometres daily. Hence a combination of both economic incentives and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Examples Of Dysfunctional Relationships Dysfunctional People in Relationships Have you ever wondered why some people stay in a dysfunctional relationship? Dysfunctional relationships are relationships that do not perform their appropriate function. In The Yellow Wallpaper, The narrator is a doctor who although probably filled with good intentions, comes off seeming domineering. The narrator and her husband move into a manor for the summer to help her with her temporary nervous depression a slight hysterical tendency. Female patients were not to listened to by male patients, but because back then women were not in positions of power. The two main reasons why their relationship is dysfunctional is the way John treats the narrator and the fact that she has postpartum depression so she is not herself. The medical world has changed a lot since back then. For instance, there were no female doctors at that time. In the 1800 s, much was unknown in the terms of health. The mortality rate was high and life expectancy was low. Parents, rich or poor, had no way of combating the deadly diseases and infections that often took their children s lives. Deadly outbreaks of cholera ( an infection in the small intestine) to the flu were, understandably, a leading cause of death in children at the time. After all, children s immune systems are not fully developed and are therefore weaker in the terms of fighting off these fatal diseases. Medicine has advanced dramatically from the 1800 s to the present.Today, although not all children are healthy if any, foods available to them, the overall diet of children has improved. Also, with what is known about diseases and transmission, many deadly diseases are under control. Luckily, today it is much more common for people also have regular checkups with the doctor, from the time they are in the womb through adulthood. One reason why John and the narrator s relationship is dysfunctional is that John treats the narrator like a child. The relationship between the narrator and John is not overly loving, but unlike many people, I do not believe that John was intentionally trying to hurt her. John cares about his wife, he just refuses to admit that his own prescribed treatment may, in fact, be the wrong treatment. John ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Huey P. Newton And The Black Panther Party During the late 1960 s and early 70 s posters of the Black Panther Party s co founder, Huey P. Newton were plastered on walls of college dorm rooms across the country. Wearing a black beret and a leather jacket, sitting on a wicker chair, a spear in one hand and a rifle in the other, the poster depicted Huey Newton as a symbol of his generation s anger and courage in the face of racism and imperialism (Albert and Hoffman 4, 45). His intellectual capacity and community leadership abilities helped to founded the Black Panther Party (BPP). It is out of this change of the movement s focus where Huey arrives at the idea for Black youth to openly display weapons. This action would be soon to serve as a founding principal within the Panthers. Eventually serving as a founding principal of the Panthers, Huey s suggestion for a demonstration of armed protest was inspired by Malcolm X s philosophy for self defense. The SSAC s rejection of Brothers On the Block , eventually led to Huey and Bobby s resignation from the Campus Organization. Fed up with the increasing police brutality towards African Americans and the SSAC rejection of Brothers On the Block , Huey and Bobby decided to form an organization to monitor police behavior in black neighborhoods and protect the rights of African Americans. This organization was the Black Panther Party for Self Defense (BPP). The Panthers stormed into American history in 1966 when Huey P. Newton wrote the platform for the party. The platform made an aggressive call for power to determine the destiny of our black community . with the immediate emphasis on the need for organizing black defense groups to end police brutality. Huey and Bobby created a uniform for the Panthers demonstrating the seriousness and discipline of the Party s platform. The Black Panthers first action was to follow Oakland Police cars, either on foot or in cars, while dressed in black pants, black leather jackets, starched blue shirts and black berets, carrying loaded shot guns. • 33. The Pros And Cons Of Reconstruction After The End Of The... Reconstruction began early in 1865 after the end of the civil war when the South was undergoing political, social and economic upheavals (Foner 15). The South embraced Union methods of total wars that led to damage to their land and crops. As a result, many people died while others were captured as slaves due to the huge drought and inflation facing their state, while their masters fled oncoming unions. From these losses, policymakers by 1865 in Washington had no other choice rather than reconstruction. Reconstruction involved several initiatives including abolishment and transformation of the Southern society, recovering the Southern Unions and most importantly the enactment of an assimilation legislation program that would aid in favoring the freed blacks into the American social and economic system. President Lincoln had pardoned reconstruction of the South long before in1863 two years before the war ended (Kennedy and Cohen 44). This was known as the ten percent plan that supported one of the initiatives. This plan allowed the Southern state to be assimilated to the union after every ten percent of the population. Later in the year 1865 president Lincoln got assassinated and Andrew Johnson succeeded him. President Johnson carried on with the ten percent plan. Both presidents shared a similar interest during their reign which was to abolish slavery before joining the union. The radical republic congress as well admitted that the Southern States had to be transformed fully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
