The Progressive Movement Of American Society
Question # 1 Intro 1) Background The Progressive Movement was an effort to cure many of the ills of
American society that had developed during the great spurt of industrial growth in the last quarter of

How To Write An Aphorism
The aphorism I have chosen is We must become the change we want to see. The meaning I took from
this is basically you must lead by example. If you want something or somebody to be a certain way,
you have to show how beneficial that change can be. This reminds me of whenever I first became an
officer in band. I do believe I was a good leader before this experience, but definitely not by example.
I made a lot of bad choices, whether it be in my word choice or just making bad decisions about how I
handle situations overall. It wasn t until I got my officer position when I really thought about how
much I looked up to my leaders in the past. They influenced so much of my life by the littlest choices
they made. I decided then that I needed to make

The Common Man In Bolt s A Man For All Season
In the play, A Man for All Season, Bolt narrates the play through use of The Common Man. The
Preface of A Man for All Season, states that the play is not a straight forward narration, though more
comparable to a poem. (Bolt, 1960:xvii). The Common Man comments on the action and characters in
numerous asides as well as change costume on stage and indicates the locations. The asides extend the
idea that The Common man s moral character is not so detached from society s, by removing himself
from the actions he is able to conveniently disassociates himself from More s supposed treasonous
acts. This is portrayed in the following lines I d let him out if I could but I can t. Not without taking up
residence in there myself. And he s in there already, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the play, Iago confesses I am not what I am (Shakespeare, 2003:I.i.66). Hampton
Reeves (2010:37) argues that Iago is the self proclaimed narrator of Othello, however, the most
unreliable narrator to date. Iago s substantial use of asides also reveals his cleverness; he is able to not
only direct but also to remark on the action of the play. Iago speaks his soliloquies before Othello, this
draws the audience into his point of view. Iago s use of soliloquies supports his power of words.
Shakespeare forces the audience to connive with the villain when he addresses the audience. We see
Othello through Iago s narration. The opposition between Iago and Othello supports the idea of a
foreign moor being positioned higher than a white Venison. When taking into consideration the point
of view established by Iago, it is clear that Shakespeare was highly influenced by the global
controversy over racial differences and origin during the Renaissance (Vaughan, 1996:5). As Iago is
undeniably jealous of Othello his narrative point of view cannot be trusted as it is based on a
subjective vendetta that he manifested in his words and actions towards

The store management is decentralized, allowing individual store managers more power in decision
making, as they were expected to come up with their own methods for cutting prices and increasing
sales. This is done differently in the competitors stores, where policies are brought in regional offices.
Superior personal customer service offered at the stores from 9am to 9pm six days a week, with
shorter working hours on Sundays (Supercentres were open continuously) together with specialized
employee training provided customers with an atmosphere in which they were happy to spend their
time and money.
Marketing
Wal Mart s slogan Everyday Low Prices is the milestone of their communication with the public as
well as their basic business principle. The corporation mainly used word of mouth advertising and
spent a lot less on marketing than the industry competitors. A strong emphasis was put on patriotism
and national causes, when it comes to the U.S. market.

Redemption in Alice Walker s Color Purple Essay
Redemption in The Color Purple
Alice Walker grew up in rural Georgia in the mid 1900s as the daughter of two poor sharecroppers.
Throughout her life, she has been forced to face and overcome arduous lessons of life. Once she
managed to transfer the struggles of her life into a book, she instantaneously became a world
renowned author and Pulitzer Prize winner. The Color Purple is a riveting novel about the struggle
between redemption and revenge according to Dinitia Smith. The novel takes place rural Georgia,
starting in the early 1900s over a period of 30 years. Albert, also known as Mr._____, and his son
Harpo must prevail over their evil acts towards other people, especially women. Albert and Harpo
wrong many people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Albert recognizes his need to change, he has reached his first step towards redemption.
Harpo s redemption comes about much more quickly than Albert s does. Perhaps this is because Harpo
is not as stubborn or awful as his father, or perhaps because there was always love between him and
his wife, Sofia; however, he still does great wrongs towards Sofia and women and general. He has
been taught that a man should be above all women in every aspect. Harpo eventually learns that he
cannot control Sofia, he tries to beat her at first; but she ends up hurting him badly. Harpo s first step
towards redemption is concluding that he and Sofia truly love each other, and that he needs to treat her
well if he wants to keep her (Walker 38). Even after understanding this, he does not truly learn how
much Sofia means to him until she is taken from him (Walker 89).
Albert was able to overcome the stereotype set upon him, and all he grew up learning to become a
person. He had to evaluate how he treated people in his life, and take action to correct his mistakes.
Albert discovers reflection that makes him a defined person, despite his reflective manner at the end of
the novel; he remains in the area of possibility (Davis 405). While Albert reflects on his faults, he
learns that ...morality is not an external dictate. It doesn t matter if you love the wrong people, ...or
whether you have money, or go to church, ...what

Information, Education, Humanitarianism And The...
Technology may be the most up and coming thing this nation has and will ever see. Technology is the
way that resources and information can be implemented to fulfil human desires and needs. Technology
and social change go hand in hand. Social change is any substantial change in human behavior
patterns and cultures. I believe that that technology is most responsible for the recent social changes in
four factors: the spreading of information, education, humanitarianism and the improvement of
industry. The use of technology has allowed communication between countries, schooling online, and
a new realm for business advertisement and even for national situational awareness. These four
changes have had a major impact on us, as a nation. The changes in education have made achieving
higher status and social class more attainable and the changes in industry has made profit and
enhancement more possible for businesses and companies. I would bet a fair amount of my pay check
on the thought that 95 percent of americans have either a cell phone or a personal computer. I would
even bet that almost all of those personal electronics have access to the internet. These two forms of
technology have become the most popular ways of communication over the years and continue to
become more popular as the times goes on. I know that I use both my computer and cell phone for
school, shopping, the news, and even to watch movies and television and I know for a fact that I am
not alone in this. The

I Want To Pursue My Military Life
Growing up in a military family, I have seen what it means to serve my country. I spent my formative
years moving every 3 4 years from duty station to duty station. The most influential experience was
living on Naval Base Guam, an active military installation, where I saw first hand the operational
tempo of military life and the indelible effects of World War II. Guam was liberated by U.S. Marines
who landed on beaches a few miles from my home and rid the island of the occupying Japanese
forces. My road to becoming a U.S. Marine began when my father took me to the top of Nimitz Hill
overlooking Asan beach. Surrounded by the names of the fallen marines who liberated Guam, I began
to imagine those brave Marines storming the beach. Years later,

idea. The main characteristics he distinguished CRM facilitates customer contact and call list
management, It maintains information on customer contacts in a database and forecast customer s
needs, It organizes marketing campaigns, Enables queries to a product marketing database, Delivers
on line systems that enables customers to configure products on line, Handles customers services. It
my recommendation to Bandon Group to implement EPR firs and CRM follows because ERP
provides CRM software. Conceptually, ERP covers all the basic business process but CRM systems
focus specifically on processes at the customer interface (Schubert, 2010). The current situation at
Bandon Group is not limited to customer relationship or the problem of Bandon Group is not limited
to lack of sales and marketing data, the billing system, web enabled support system, better invoice or
the integration of the software but the company and its process need overall business restructure and
re engineering because that is all about ERP. Step 9: Determining ERP/CRM design issues Business
processing workloads are among the most demanding workloads in the enterprise.

What Is Charles Dickens Moral Message and How Does He...
Christmas Carol
What is Charles Dickens moral message and how does he communicate it to the reader in A Christmas
Carol ?
Christmas carol is a novel written by Charles Dickens (1812 1870) during the Victorian times in
London. For me to explore the moral messages I feel it is important to acknowledge exactly what the
message is. Charles Dickens throughout the novel communicates; Charity, goodwill, family, kindliness
and humility as moral messages, however, I personally feel Charles Dickens most powerful and
important messages are Goodwill, Family and Charity however I will still look at all moral messages
as they all play an important role in A Christmas Carol.
In the book Christmas, stave 2, the ghost of Christmas past takes scrooge ... Show more content on

From this reply Scrooge is reminded from his words in Stave 1; if he be like to die he had better do it
and decrease the surplus population. Scrooge is humbled by the Cratchitt s gratitude over what little
they have and he learns that as long as you have family you don t need money.
Lastly, family is a moral message to which dickens tries to communicate with the reader and this is
shown in stave 3. The ghost takes Scrooge to places outside of the London area he sees a family of
miners in a hut on a barren moor, two lighthouse keepers and sailors on a ship; and they all know they
have got each other but no matter what they will celebrate as much as they want, even though there
not with their family they have their friends. This all made them aware to act more kindly to one
another as its Christmas.
Fred Scrooge s nephew is having a Christmas party and Scrooge is taken and shown by the sprit. Fred
explains that Scrooge is to be pitied, not despised. And his money does him no good; Fred then
explains, his offences carry their own punishment . The guesses of the party then play a game to find
the identity of a thing to which questions asked can only be answered to Yes or No. The guests are
then amused by the fact when Fred wife sister guesses that the mystery object is Scrooge. The mystery
object was described as unwanted and this made Scrooge leave and he had come to a conclusion that

Comparing The Works Of Genji And Lady Akashi
In the Tale of Genji, there are various poems that make an appearance, each holding a special meaning
for the creator and the recipient. The waka poetry pervades the life of the Heian Court, revealing the
character s personality, illuminating their thoughts, and expressing the love and desires they have.
Thus giving us, the readers a clarification of the relationships and progression of the characters. To
answer the prompt of who would I date based on the poetry, I would say that there is no one in
particular I would date. Not because their poetry wasn t romantic or didn t provoke a dialogue, but
rather because if the character was alive today, I think, it wouldn t necessarily have the same effect as
it did during the Heian period. I do enjoy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If clouds or smoke in this case has an action attached or shows movement, then it could also
symbolize the passing or separation of these lovers. This meaning can be seen in the poem above; thus
reminding Genji of his lovers, whether they are alive or dead.
The usage of poetry to express a characters interest or their feelings can cause a well of emotions from
the readers, possibly because of past experiences or because the situation the character was in is
relatable. I can t speak for others, but some of the poems present in the Tale of Genji, and the situation
that brought upon that poem, I can relate to and understand why the character felt that way.
To quote the poet Robert Frost, poetry ...is a reaching out toward expression; an effort to find
fulfillment. A complete poem is one where an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found
the words. It is difficult to put feelings into words, because someone else might not share the same
feelings, so, once we know the words to use the emotions transform into words that we can then

A Literary Analysis Of Everyday Use By Alice Walker
Literary Analysis on Everyday Use A daughter who uses her mother s gifts in contrast to a daughter
who preserves them, is far more valuable just like in Everyday use by Alice Walker because heritage
values can be preserved. From here on, Walker utilizes a prideful tone which later shifts into an
authoritative tone by illustrating a proud mother who becomes defensive because of her modern
daughter s opposing views. The story commenced with off with Dee, the eldest of two daughters,
arrived at her mom s house with with modern attire, which truly shocked Mama. Soon enough, dinner
begun and the protagonist continued to watch Dee take pleasure over the benches her daddy made for
the table when they couldn t afford one (760). Walker ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here the tone shifted from prideful to authoritative. Dee demanded to own the two quilts. Mama said
the quilts had been made by her ancestors and she hung up on them on the quilt frames on the front
porch and made them (762). The quilt frames symbolize the object which helps organize and keep the
family s generations alive, and the front porch symbolizes the connection of the family with the world.
Mama knew the quilts were what kept the generations together, regardless of what the people around
thought or did.The quilts needed to be used in order to keep the family traditions alive. Soon after, the
protagonist came up with an excuse and said the lavender [pieces], [came] from old clothes which had
been handed down (762). The lavender symbolizes love and devotion. The old clothes symbolize the
legacy of the family s heritage. Although Dee only wanted to the quilts, Mama felt her past family s
love and devotion through the quilts. Dee wanted the quilts because to preserve them, not because of
an emotional connection to them. In addition, the young woman continued to offend her mother to the
point where Mama told her the quilts were for Maggie, the youngest sister, and Dee exclaimed how
her sister could never appreciate the quilts. She continued and said She d probably be backward
enough to put them to everyday use (762). Everyday use represents the everyday use of customs and
true purpose of the quilts. Although Dee thinks her sister will destroy the blankets through sex and
daily use, Mama wanted her to understand how everything she wanted had a special purpose in their

Don John A Villain
Bastard, a child born out of wedlock, an illegitimate descendant that deserves to be slapped. Don John,
coined as Shakespeare s most passive villain is plagued by the society of Messina that rejected him
from the very moment of birth. Looking through the idea of predetermined roles in life, we can come
to realize the roots of Don John s agitation arises from his illegitimacy, stacking him at the bottom of
the social hierarchy. Here he feels obliged to act the part of the villain, delegated by his very own
blood.
Shakespeare always seems to have a set recipe for his villains, a dash of this, a sprinkle of that,
forming a pattern that can be observed and connected over a ____of plays. We, of course, can apply
this to the all infamous Don ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is desperate to rectify that and grab something for himself, and I like him for that. He has a reason
for being evil. Due to his positions as a bastard, characters immediately reject Don John and regard
him with suspicion. With his villainy stemming from his rejection from society, it becomes clear why
he is treated as an outcast. He is degraded to just Don Pedro s illegitimate half brother, sometimes
referred to simply as the Bastard. He is a clear stand out from the rest of the characters due to his
melancholy and pessimism, since as characters in a comedy are supposed to be surrounded by a joyful
atmosphere, he is the only character that brings darkness and sadness to the play. Most of the other
characters in the play prove outgoing, talkative, or at least social, and while such chattiness leads to
problems when other characters overhear secrets, Don John s silence emerges as more disagreeable
than willingness to divulge secrets. When Don John returns to Messina with his brother, the governor
Leonato addresses him with immense hesitation: If you swear, my Lord, you shall not be forsworn
Essentially, Leonato questions Don John s declaration of loyalty to Don Pedro, and although Leonato
covers his harsh greeting with a welcoming of Don John, his doubts remain dormant under the surface
of his kind words. Don John notices the undercurrent of distrust directed towards him and responds, I
am not of many words, but I thank you Through his simple statement, Don John acknowledges society
s perpetual distrust of him and provides the audience with key insight into his character. In a powerful
statement, Don John confirms I am trusted with a muzzle and enfranchised with a clog; therefore I
have decreed not to sing in my cage. If I had my mouth, I would bite; if I had my liberty, I would do
my liking. Don John recognizes that no one truly trusts him;

Karma Chameleon Analysis
The song, Karma Chameleon, by Culture Club was written by the band s lead singer, Boy George.
Karma Chameleon was released in 1983 and reached the top charts in Great Britain, and in 1984,
Culture Club won Best Single for the song at the Brit Awards. Through the song, Boy George
communicates the fear of alienation. At first listen, the meaning is uncertain in the lyrics, but it is clear
in the video. The video takes place in Mississippi in 1877 with dozens of people dressed in the garb of
that period. Although there are dozens of the 19th century citizens, there is one that stands out: Boy

Designing A Sustainable Competitive Advantage For...
As a set of business activities that add value to goods and services sold to consumers, retailing
involves key strategies in order to build a sustainable, competitive advantage for companies (Peterson
Balasubramanian, 2002). These strategies involve identifying a retailer s target market and satisfying
those needs. Through observing the retail strategy used by the company T2, this essay will ascertain
and analyse their retail mix in order to determine the competitive advantage T2 has and whether it is
sustainable or not.
Before T2 can be analysed in terms of the retailing strategy used, it must first be defined as a retail
outlet. It is a speciality, store based, franchise organisation (Reynolds et al., 2007) that was founded
over 18 years ago by an interior designer named Maryanne Shearer (Shearer, The Making of T2,
2015). Beginning as a retail store in Fitzroy, Australia, it was seen as an opportunity to re invent tea
for the new generations to come; to make tea fashionable. T2 has expanded its reach to over 65 stores
worldwide, including New Zealand. All of the T2 retail stores provide a sensory experience for the
customers, allowing them to explore the immersive world of tea drinking (Shearer, Philosophy, 2015).
T2 s move over to New Zealand occurred in 2013, with the opening of the Queen Street store. This
store will be analysed in terms of retail mix and strategies.

They were the only things I knew at that point. I opened my eyes, only to find them being shadowed

The goal of feminism is to have women and men treated equally in all aspect of their lives. Some

the article The differences between Liberal and Radical Feminism by Charles Rae, radical feminism is
women being liberated for men. Radical feminists feel that there is a male based authority and power

values are in place, society will not be able to be reformed in any significant way. Some radical
feminists see no alternatives other than the total uprooting and reconstruction of society in order to

beautiful scene of Montmartre in Paris. The background of this work appears to be a deep blue Paris
sky during the day. However, what immediately allures the viewer s eye is the Moulin de Blute Fin,
which is a large decommissioned windmill located in the upper center right portion of the canvas.
Anterior to the Moulin de Blute Fin is a mixture of fences gardens, sheds, and shacks scattered about
the hill.
In addition to the Moulin de Blute Fin, a much smaller windmill, the Moulin à Poivre, can be found on
the left side of the canvas. If one close enough they will also notice a man standing near the frontmost
fence. One wouldn t be able to tell what exactly that man is doing, but while observing the painting in
person, it is clear that he is painting. The bottom half of the portrait is filled entirely green grass,
dainty bushes, yellow flowers, and other foliage. Finally, towards the very bottom of the canvas the
blades of grass and flowers appear much more detailed than those above it. Their thick and deliberate
brushstrokes allow them to appear much closer to the viewer than the rest of the shrubbery.
Vincent van Gogh was born in Groot Zundert, Netherlands on March 30, 1853. Van Gogh s love,
knowledge, and understanding of art can best be credited to his uncle. His uncle, who

My Dedication Of The Director Of One Day Program
Greetings Mr. and Mrs. Evans, again it was a pleasure meeting you both during the meeting last
Friday. I will say, it is my goal to ensure that all future meetings are on better terms. I want to thank
you both for your dedication and involvement in Amanda s life. As stated during the meeting your
concerns were valid and will be addressed. I left that meeting hearing you loud and clear. I have been
with EPIC formerly SMVI since October 2014, I was hired as the Director of one Day Program then
promoted to Director of Day Support Services which consisted of all five day programs offered by
EPIC in December of that same year. With my dedication to the quality of services and the
participants being supported I was again promoted to the Chief Operating Officer position July 1
2015. I say this not to boast, but to outline my dedication to EPIC s mission and to the program
participants receiving supports and services. As the COO I am responsible for enhancing and
maintaining the quality of each program and service offered by EPIC, as you could probably tell
during the meeting I was not happy with some of the information discussed and will personally ensure
you that change is on the way. As stated during the meeting, I am really transparent and I am fully
aware that there are some issues needing attention and I have drafted a plan of correction for all
programs and am in the implementation process as we communicate. As it specifically relates to

The Importance Of College Tuition
Furthermore, tuition annual rate has an outrageous inflation relationship with time. In Josh Mitchell
and Andrea Fuller Wall Street Journal it states, Among the four year schools in the Journal s analysis,
the average increase in tuition and fees was greater than 75% in the past decade, outpacing inflation.
(pp9). As college tuition continue to increase, the more individuals will be in debt. While the
importance of a higher education increases the chances of becoming successful, more people will
gravitate towards higher education knowing that loans will always be an option and having the idea
that debt is normal to ensure a stable future. Not only will this start to affect individuals but the
government will eventually suffer. Wight Martindale Jr states, ...too much money spent, too little
achieved. (Martindale), this explains how higher education can bring one a tremendous amount of
debt with a bunch of stress. He also talks about how it is a bubble, this is a bubble that many students
hate to be in. This bubble is known for being unable to burst which is a problem for multiple students
because college shouldn t be about money and stress. The more money the government give out and
not receive as much in and they borrow from different countries, the country will stay in debt itself.
Federal and or state governments need to implement a law to keep a reasonable cap on college tuition.
Because college tuition is constantly rising with no cap it creates mental health issues

William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry And The French...
What constitutes honor in society? In Henry V, King Henry and the French invoke its constitution to
incite men into war. Although the reasons that the English and French countrymen fight differ, the
thought of honorably serving their countries stands alone as enough impetus to thrust both onto the
battlefield. But how can honor command such incentive? The answer stems from individualistic pride.
The characters in Henry V see how, as a collective, society has objectively agreed that service to one s
country merits honor, but each character, as an individual, chooses to strive towards that honor
because of his or her own pride. This notion of individualistic pride both consciously and
subconsciously drives daily action. And in Henry V, the insidious intent of pride eclipses the known
vicious nature of war. The motivation for King Henry to wage war on France, the subsequent response
of France s leadership, and the action of the English countrymen emanates from the notion of honor,
but how each individual responds to the desire to fulfill his pride ultimately shapes the field of
Agincourt (4.7.86). Henry V illustrates how honor and pride craft the nature of war. King Henry s
yearning for honor and the challenges to his pride that he receives from his wild younger days
instigates him to pursue war with France. He understands the magnitude of war, even probing the
archbishop of Canterbury s argument to challenge the Salic law: For God doth know how many now

How To Write A Photo Analysis Essay
The weak fall, but the strong will remain and never go under, stated by Anne Frank. I settle on this
quote because it is significant to the photo that I have chosen. The photo that I found was searched on

Pinterest. As I looked more into the photo it was also shown on many other websites of displayed

examined and have their own perspectives about them. In the photo that I have chosen, it could imply
to the readers that it suggests the simple act of kindness given to individuals who need happiness.
The photo depicts a young girl and a young boy standing on a wooden dock near the ocean as the sun

This photo looks as if the young girl is offering the young boy help by giving him a balloon and the
benefit from the help given is receiving happiness. Although, the photo illustrates more than just the
simple fact of giving and receiving. The photo shows the opportunity to help the ones in desperate
need. This photo works as a powerful representation of individuals in need. The young girl has all the
opportunities in life to do what she wants and still gives her time to help the young boy. That is shown
by the illustration of the young girl offering the young boy a balloon. Everyone needs a helping hand
at a certain time in their life. Most importantly not everyone knows what people go through but the
best option is to offer support whether or not they will accept it. In addition, the worse act that can be
given is to ignore someone, and that certain someone can only learn from the action of rejection. This
thought is invoked because in the photo it is shown that the young boy does not accept the balloon that

Determining Responsibility Of A Work Related Accident Essay
Determining Responsibility in a Work Related Accident Shaia D Belt University of Maryland
University College Critical Thinking in Action: A Case Study on Determining Responsibility in a
Work Related Accident When working in a career where the employee s safety is at risk, being
informed of one s rights can prevent accusations that may determine one responsible for their own
injury. Sometimes the line of responsibility is very delicate and difficult to determine. One particular
case is a clear example of how the knowledge of rights, would have cleared up any misunderstandings
regarding responsibility. Some background into the case includes a worker who blames his injury on
the negligence of his employer to replace faulty equipment. The employer, on the other hand has
accounts of horseplay on the employee s part. To say the least, it should be illegal to accuse an injured
employee of being the party responsible in a workplace injury. Explanation of the Issue Company

Impact of Energy Subsidy in Russia
Russia is an energy producing powerhouse whose economic performance is largely correlated with the
fluctuations in the general commodities sector. According to the U.S. Energy Information
Administration s ( EIA) analysis brief on Russia, the country derived 52% of its federal government
revenues from oil and gas production, which also accounted for over 70% of all Russian exports in
2012. Russia is the world s second largest producer of natural gas and third largest producer of oil.

and conclude with an opinion as to their effectiveness and the alternatives available to the current

Introduction Russia s Energy Sector and Subsidy Program at a glance
As mentioned earlier, Russia is the world s 3rd largest producer of oil and 2nd largest producer of
natural gas, with the largest known natural gas reserves in the world. 2012 oil production stood at
10.4m barrels per day (bbl/d), of which approximately 3.2m bbl/d were consumed domestically and
the rest was exported. Though Russia s oil production is concentrated in the Western Siberia and Urals
Volga region (85% of all production in 2012), exploration is now shifting to the under developed
Eastern Siberian areas as well as the Arctic Circle. Oil production is dominated by domestic
companies, led by the state controlled Rosneft, which after acquiring virtually all of the assets from
the Yukos liquidation as well as the assets from another major competitor, TNK BP, now

Hippocrates Social Phobias
Introduction: Symptoms of social phobias have been described since antiquity. The concept of social
phobias can be traced as far back as 2000 years ago. In 400 B.C., Hippocrates described an overtly
anxious patient named Nicanor, who was plagued by fear in social settings. He dares not come into the
company for fear he should be misused, disgraced, overshoot himself in gestures or speeches, or be
sick. He thinks every man is observing him (Jefferson, 2001, p. 4). Hippocrates did not believe the
Gods were blamed for fear as most contemporaries of his time alleged. Insisting the cause was related
to a physical malfunction within the individual, a class of melancholia or a type of insanity.

There are many types of approaches to treat anxieties, but the leading treatments tend to be a
combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and a graduated exposure therapy such as
Systematic Desensitization. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is perhaps the most well know and most
practiced form of evidence based interventions for the treatment for clients suffering from SAD. The
combination of cognitive restructuring and Systematic Desensitization helps the client systematically
confront fears in a live or imagined environment. Cognitive restructuring along with exposure therapy
appears to be an effective treatment and demonstrates a larger effect than exposure therapy or
restructuring alone. Through repeated exposure, the client is helped to invalidate fears and increase
self efficacy (Priyamamvada, Kiman, Chaudhury, 2009, p.

An analysis of porters value chain
To analyse the specific activities through which firms can gain a competitive advantage, it is useful to
model the firm as a chain of value creating activities. For this purpose, Porter identified a range of
interrelated generic activities common to a wide range of firms. The resulting model is known as the
value chain.
According to Porter (1985),
Competitive Advantage arises out of the way firms organise and arrange discrete activities .
Through using the Value Chain, the activities performed by a firm competing in a particular industry
can be grouped into categories as shown in the model below:
Upstream Activities Downstream Activities
Porter distinguishes between primary activities and support activities. Primary activities are ... Show

As mentioned, gaining competitive advantage requires that a firm s value chain be managed as a
system rather than a collection of separate parts. Reconfiguring the value chain by relocation,
reordering or even eliminating certain activities can often lead to a major improvement in competitive
position.
Upstream and Downstream
A firm s value chain links to the value chains of the upstream suppliers and downstream buyers. The
result is a larger stream of activities known as the value system. The development of a firm specific
competitive advantage not only depends on the firms value chain but also on the value system of
which the firm is a part. In most industries, it is rather unusual that a single company performs all
activities from product design, production of components, and final assembly to delivery to the final
user by itself. Most often, organisations are elements of a value system or supply chain. Hence, value
chain analysis should cover the whole value system in which the organization operates.
Within the whole value system, there is only a certain value of profit margin available. This is the
difference of the final price the customer pays and the sum of all costs incurred with the production
and delivery of the product/service. It depends on the structure of the value system, how this margin
spreads across the suppliers, producers, distributors, customers, and other elements of the value
system. Each member of the system will use its

What Is Biotechnology And Its Ramification To Breast Cancer
Biotechnology and its Ramification to Breast Cancer According to the Centers of Disease Control and

breast cancer. And 41,211 women and 465 men in the United States died from breast cancer (U.S.

if the clinicians, physicians, and oncologists utilized the Mammaprint. To understand the way

Warburg), the standard process in cancer metabolism (Gentric, 2017).
We need to consider the significant role of TME, especially CAFs and immune cells, which
profoundly participate in the metabolic interplay with neoplastic cells. CAFs and immune cells can
collectively adapt to the metabolic needs of cancer cells and thus participate in tumorigenesis.
Metabolic balance between all these players also promotes resistance to treatments, including not only
the conventional chemotherapy or radiotherapy but also the most recent and advanced
immunotherapies. Characterizing the mutual metabolic interplay between stromal, immune, and
neoplastic cells will likely provide a better understanding of tumor progression and treatment
resistance (Gentric, 2017).
Biomarkers and Genetic Polymorphism
Genome studies have identified about 80 or more genetic variants or single nucleotide polymorphisms
(SNPs) linked with breast cancer risk. Each variant only discreetly alters breast cancer risk; however,
together they add large risk data to current risk analysts. Therefore, when added to traditional risk
models, such as the Gail model, the Tyrer Cuzick model and/or the Breast Cancer Surveillance
Consortium (BSCC) model, a combination of genetic risk factors can be used to increase risk
arrangement. Risk arrangements with SNPs and other genetic alternates may also be useful to aid in
other decisions for breast cancer prevention and screening. For

The Role of Chorus in Euripides Medea
The Role of Chorus in Medea
In section 18 of the Poetics Aristotle criticizes Euripides for not allowing the chorus to be one of the
actors and to be a part of the whole and to share in the dramatic action, . . . as in Sophocles. Aristotle
may be thinking of the embolima of Euripides later plays (satirized also by Aristophanes), but he is
certainly wrong about the Medea. Its choral odes are not only all intimately related to the action but
are also essential for the meaning of the play, particularly because here, as elsewhere (e.g. Hecuba),
Euripides forces us reevaluate his main protagonist in midstream and uses the chorus (in part) to
indicate that change.
In her first speech Medea wins over the chorus by a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Bernard Knox and others have shown, she also is a woman whose behavior and motivation are cast
in a male rather than a female mode and follow the male heroic code of honor and revenge. Medea
thus comes to embody the problem of defining the nature of woman; and the female chorus is left just
as puzzled as the everyone else.
The fourth stasimon, sung after Medea has persuaded Jason to let their children bring gifts to
conciliate his new bride, shows the chorus s initial sympathy for Medea changing to sympathy for her
victims, the doomed children. They even have a word of sympathy for Jason, whom they here call
kakonumphos, ill wedded (990) as they did in the parode (207), but now in compassion rather than in
accusation. Medea continues to address the chorus as philai, my friends, as she exits with the
irrevocable decision to kill her children (1236 37); but she uses this philia to define absolute loyalty to
her plot that involves the destruction of philoi: compare her use of philos in her outrageous request to
the Messenger for an unhurried telling so that she may relish the deed all the more (1127 33).
In the fifth stasimon Euripides interrupts the chorus s song by the children s offstage cry at the
moment of their murder, and also intertwines the chorus s singing with their cries at the moment of
their death. By establishing the bond of oppressed womanhood with the chorus in her first speech,
Medea had

The Hollow Men Stylistics
1. Introduction This paper deals with a stylistic analysis of Eliot s poem The Hollow Men . What are
the stylistic featuresexploited by Eliot to make his poem more expressive is the main problem that this
study tries to investigate. It aims to explore ways in which language use has been integrated in the
selected poems. It is also aimed at analyzing some of the distinctive features that give the selected
poem their identity. To fulfill the aim of the study, it hypothesizes that Eliot exploits certain linguistic
deviations as an essential way to make his poem more expressive. So as to examine the proposed
hypothesis, certain representative examples have been chosen from the poem for the sake of analysis.

We normally study style because we want to explain something, and in general, literary stylistics has
the goal of explaining the relation between language and artistic function (Leech and Short, 1981:

Naturalistic Observation Of Student s A Coffee Line
Naturalistic Observation of Student s in a Coffee Line In the United States, 85% of adults own a cell
phone, with 18 to 24 year olds texting the most (Zickuhr, 2011). Of these adults, 67% reported that
they check their phone even if they do not hear it ringing, 44% sleep with the phone beside their bed,
and 29% reported they could not live without their cell phone (Smith, 2012). In addition, according to
the Baylor University report, studies show that young adults check their phone an average of 60 times
a day. This study examined cell phone use among university students that were alone and in a group.
Specifically, we were interested in observing whether students alone in a coffee line or students in a
group in a coffee line, spent more or less time on their cell phone. We were also interested to observe
if gender affected cell phone usage and whether males or females were more likely to be in a group.
The purpose of this study was to determine if university students that are alone spend more or less
time on their phone than students that are in a group. We also examined if gender was an important
factor on whether a student was in a group or alone. Using naturalistic observation, we calculated the
amount of time individual students were on their phone per three minute time interval. The hypothesis
was that students alone in a coffee line would spend the most time on their phone. We also predicted
that women were more likely than men to be in a group.

STATEMENT OF CASH FLOWS 1
The Statement of Cash Flows is a very viable and helpful resource. Decision makers use the Statement

The cash flow statement has three components of cash flow which includes how cash enters and
leaves a company such as operating, investing and financing as mentioned above.
The Statement of Cash flows includes measuring the cash inflows and outflows caused by operations.
Cash inflows include cash received from: * Owners when sales are sold to them * Creditors when cash
is borrowed through notes, loans, mortgages, and bonds
Whereas cash outflows includes cash paid to: * Owners in the form of dividends or distributions
STATEMENT OF CASH FLOWS 3 * Owners for the reacquisition of shares previously sold *
Creditors as repayment of the principal amounts of debt (excluding trade payables that relate to
operating activities)
The operations component of cash flow reflects how much cash is generated from a company s
products or services. Generally, changes made in cash, accounts receivable, depreciation, inventory
and accounts payable are reflected in cash from operations.
The cash flow is calculated by making certain adjustments to net income by adding or subtracting
differences in revenue, expenses and credit transactions (appearing on the balance sheet and income
statement) resulting from transactions that occur from one period to the next. These adjustments are

The Striped Pyjamas Comparison
It s completely normal to feel vulnerable and fragile throughout our life. It s something we all go
through as people. I have chosen the theme vulnerability and how it affects people. This particular
theme is conveyed through two books Animal Farm written by George Orwell and Boy in The Striped
Pyjamas written by John Boyne. It s also portrayed through the poems Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy
and Let me describe for you her eyes by Glenn Colquhoun. The authors all use effective ways and
techniques to convey this theme. The theme of vulnerability and how it affects people is shown quite
clearly throughout the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell. The theme was portrayed mostly
through the pigs, as they were the lower class because they re well known as the fat, ugly and lazy

just leave it behind and forget about it. Duffy taught the readers that love is kind to some people and

The Pros And Cons Of Japanese Internment
December 7th, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Army successfully pulled of the surprise attack on Pearl
Harbor. After this attack the government of Canada used the war measures act to remove all Japanese
Canadian citizens that live 160km from the Pacific Coast and put them in internment camps until
1949, four years after WW2. Fast Forward to 1988 and the Canadian government gives an apology to
the Japanese, however the apology was for more than just Japanese Internment it was for the pain and
suffering, discrimination, and for leaving Japanese citizens with nothing.
One of the most justified reasons for the apology would be how the Canadian Government caused the
pain and suffering amongst Japanese Canadians. Firstly, the 22,000 Japanese Canadian citizens and
residents were taken from their homes on Canadas West Coast without any charge or due process and
exiled to remote areas of Eastern British Columbia (Greg Robinson, Internment of Japanese
Canadians). In addition, the RCMP arrested suspected operatives while the Royal Canadian Navy
impounded 1,200 Japanese fishing boats, and to avoid racist backlash Japanese newspapers, as well as
schools were voluntarily shut down. In this time the Japanese population in Canada had been greatly
damaged and families became separated into the internment camps. Moving on, my second point for
further justification is the Labor Camps Japanese Canadians were placed in, further increasing pain
and suffering. Because of the amount of political

Human Trafficking Is The Unlawful Movement Of People
Human trafficking is the unlawful movement of people normally for commercial sex exploitation or
forced labor purposes. Trafficking in persons that is the modern type of slavery has raised public
concern and attention increasingly. The international and United States law defines human trafficking
also known as trafficking in persons as encircling two different types of illegal activity, for instance,
sexual exploitation and forced labor. Considering the economic situation and the geographical location
of Mexico, it becomes clearly one of the source and point of entry for approximately eighteen
thousand individuals trafficked each year into the United States (Shelley, 2010). Therefore, looking a
large number of immigrants in the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Human trafficking entails coercion or deception or both of another person for the intention of sexual,
labor of other types of humiliation, unlike the smuggling of people. In several circumstances,
traffickers acquire and retain control of the victim through the excuse of debt oppression. During
trafficking, the victims remain helpless since they have to rely on the dealers for survival in terms of
food and water. They have to submit to them and remain loyal lest they will be thrown in the way or
assaulted and raped. Victims are frequently emotionally and physically abused into obedience through
confinement, forced drug use, violent threats, starvation, gang rapes, and horrific beatings. Women
and men of all nationalities are usually the abusers of these victims, and in the mainly hard situations,
sufferers are socialized to become dynamic partakers and traffickers themselves. Researches and
reports of cases of human trafficking documented below exemplify the diversity of this occurrence in
the Mexican United States context (Shelley, 2010).
Forced Labor and Labor Exploitation is one of the main faces of human trafficking. Most individual
trafficked or smuggled are for the purposes of forced labor and labor exploitation. Even though several
undocumented employees hired or recruited by United States employers agree to position with poor
living conditions, long hours, poor working conditions, and unlawful wages. The enormous

International Monetary Fund And The World Bank
THE WORLD BANK AND IMF HIPC
International Monetary Fund and The World Bank, though has a good purpose of their existence, they
have come under lots of criticisms as to how they use the leverage of being in a position of helping
poor countries to either recover from economic collapse or give them debt relief and economic boost
from loans they give out to them to impose policies and condition that those poor countries has to
implement. These loan conditions and policies structured by these international financial power
institutions are geared towards moving resources from the poor countries to the rich western countries.
The end result is creating a situation where the poor countries sunk into more economic suicidal
condition in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to rebuild Europe after a devastation second world war, common sense would tell you that the
institutions would not like to deplete its resources. So the question of exploiting loan seekers or poor
countries who later became part of the countries seeking financial help from the world bank and the
IMF.
The main function of the International Monetary Fund according to IMF fact sheet (2016, March 23)
To ensure the stability of the international monetary system the system of exchange rates and
international payments that enables countries (and their citizens) to transact with each other . Simply
put, the organization beginning with 44 countries and now 189, has one aim, to make sure there is a
global or international stability in the world economy by monitoring resources and exchange rates
across goods and services trading among member countries and ensuring that there would not be an
economic collapse in respective member countries. Same IMF factsheet do more elaborating on their

The Rise Of The Progressive Era
During the Progressive Era, which was known as a large reform movement, there was a widespread
across the United States of political reform and social activism. The main focus and goal of the
Progressives and their movement was lowering government involvement and eliminating corruption in
the government. Progressives reacted to problems caused by large factories and cities. Furthermore,
they attacked big corporations, such as the Armour meat packing company and others, for how harsh
their practices were. The progressives exposed these companies and how they treated workers,
removed competitors, and set high prices. The meatpacking industry capitalized when the growth of
livestock farming in the Midwest started to grow rapidly. Meatpacking companies and industries, such
as the Armour meat packing company, handle the slaughtering, processing, and distribution of animals
including cattle and pigs. Although the meatpacking industry created a lot of jobs, working in a
meatpacking company was not luxurious because the factories were unsanitary, unregulated, and
tremendously dangerous.
In the Progressive Era, influential journalists wanted to expose the government and big business of
their flaws to American citizens with using factual and proven evidence against them. Muckrakers,
who are journalists that seek out the truth of corruption among the government and business leaders,
became well known due to how many people were amazed by the revealed injustices and dishonesty

Archer Chapter Summaries
Enemies since birth, Lord Howard and Lord Bolton hire swordsmen to settle their differences in
battle. They kill each other, their friends are wounded, and the swordsmen are left without their
promised payment and employment. An older nobleman, Lord Garrick, tells the swordsmen about a
castle three days ride north, which has been occupied by masterless men. He promises to petition King
Edward to grant it to the swordsmen if they can win it back. Bancroft and Winston lead the
swordsmen to the castle... Archer is one of the last men through the gates into the castle, and has to
look around for a man to fight. He sees someone running upstairs and follows him only to find the
man is holding a woman covering his body. Archer recognizes him as the man who killed Father
Kirby, an unarmed monk. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

are given a room alone to share, and once again Drake fucks Archer s ass, this time in peace and safety
and taking their time. The next day Archer and Drake go with Bancroft and Winston to look at all the
villages. All promise to help prepare the land for winter. One had most of their men killed by the
masterless men and Bancroft suggests some of the women previously enslaved by them can come and
work at the castle with the promise they will be safe and cared for as long as they work. Finally they
check out an abandoned village and are ambushed by two children. One of the buildings collapses on
Drake, but he is wearing his armor and is bruised but not badly injured. Bancroft tells the children to
take their seed as a gift and move to the village lacking men. The swordsmen look around the rest of
the area but find no one else. Archer Goldenvoice and Drake the Swordsman commit to staying

Mcdonald s Arguments Against Fluoridation Of Water
Fluoride has been shown to be toxic and affects the brain and kidney when ingested. Research lasting
one year has demonstrated that a very small quanitity of fluride added to water was suffiecient to
cause changes to the kidney and brain could lead to Alzheimer s. Fluoride allows aluminium a heavy
metal to cross the blood brain barrier which can therefore cause this sickness associated with this
element. Viewpoints Against The dose of fluoride is different for every person as it cannot be
regulated, therefore everybody receives different amounts In phrmcotherapy it is not general practice
to fluoridate water as this is not ethical, this is because fluoridation should be a much more
individualized in regards to the dosage as it can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because according to the department of health, Rnzcgp this process is not able to be regulated
and the dosage is dependent on the person s circumstances i.e age which can result in health problems.
When too large a dose is absorbed into the system according to the The United Nation news it can
cause health issues relating to skeletal and dental fluorosis. The compound is also shown to affect the
brain and kidney negatively. Fluoridation is a system by which the town or country is taking
responsibility for its people. The proposed action is not to fluoridate teeth by adding fluoride to the
entire water supply which will affect every person s entire body with fluoride, but to instead educate
about the benefits of using toothpaste which people already commonly use. People can suffer adverse
effects because the government would further their own goal. There is no controversy about the people
and side effect because I propose not fluoridating. So the evidence is that there will be 100% no risk to
getting the side effects, and yet there is no limitation of restricting tooth hygiene and maintaining tooth
health through personal care. The evidence of science is that not using a material eliminates the
potential for side effects. Personally I find that instead of treating drinking water we should be treating
personal care products such as tooth paste which is more effective action. Therefore there is no risk of
affecting the entire population in the hands of just a

Process Essay On How To Become A Genealogist
My family has a tradition where for every generation, we go out to Florida every summer. Genealogy
is the history of your family and the genes you inherit from your ancestors weither they are healthy,
helpful, or harmful. It is important because without genealogy, you and your family would cease to
exist in this world we live in. If you are looking for someone to show you how to become a
genealogist, I can help you out. To begin with, a genealogist should always find a process to use along
the way. You should talk with your family members and get as much information as you can out of
them. For example, I talked to my family and found out that my great, great grandma s name was
Elmer. After that, you should start a family tree with the information you just gathered. I used a tree
with four boxes with a line coming out of each leading to two boxes. That is an example of a mother, a
father, and up to four children. You can also use internet websites. For example, I went to a site called
ansestryclassroom.com and found out when my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You should find out where your name came from after finding the right process for you. I found out
that my name is originally from England. Next, you need to try to succeed. You could find new stories,
facts about you or your family, or other information that you did not know about! Along the way, you
will encounter road blocks . You will get frustrated, angry, or even feel sad at one point or another. For
example, I ran into a couple of road blocks where I had to search about three or four sites just to find
my Grandma Kelley, and it was very annoying and time consuming. I also only found the person I was
looking for at the very end of class. Do you know what year you showed up on a census record? I do. I
was born in 2005, I showed up on the Colorado census records in 2005. I did not show up on the U.S.

Pros And Cons Of Being An American Teenager
People today all have different and unique backgrounds, mine in particular is very different than your
average American teenager. I am the daughter of two very religious Iraqi immigrants who left their
homeland behind because they are Christians. This has shaped how I am because it shows me how
blessed I truly am to be born and raised in a country where I do not have to be worried about being an
Assyrian Christian. My family and my Assyrian community have taught me and raised me to be the
person I am today, they have been the ones who shaped me into a grown woman that will one day be
one of best physicians in the world.
I have been inspired by so many people in my life from my parents and uncles to my churches clergy.
As a child I was raised

The Development of William Mossop s Character in Hobson s...
The Development of William Mossop s Character in Hobson s Choice William Mossop started off as a
lodger lodging with Ada Figgins. He was shy and had no ambitions working at Hobson s shoe shop at
the bottom of the chain. At the end of the play he was ambitious, married and the joint owner of
Hobsons shop. The audience sympathises with Willie the first time he appears on stage because he
only comes half way up the trap door . This is because of his social standing and he feels that he is not
worthy to speak to Hobson and the upper class people . As the play progresses Willie acquires a
greater sense of confidence. This is shown when Willie begins to speak more and is further educated
and more self assured. Willie also gets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

accepts the fact that Maggie and Willie are married but then goes on to say, Maggie, you ve had your
way and done what you wanted, I m none the prouder of your choice and I wont lie and pretend I am .
To this point it seems that Hobson is not content and has no intentions of speaking to them again.
However, proceeds to say, but I ve shaken your husbands hand and that s a sign for you, the milks split
and ill not cry . Willie has now returned to his initial opinion and it seems he has approved of the
wedding even though he doesn t endorse the idea. Later on in the play Hobson has a word with Willie
with and pronounces you re the best of the bunch, a backward lad but you no your trade and it s an
honest one. This gives Willie additional confidence. Willie visits the local pub, The Moonrakers on a
daily basis with his friends even though the doctor has told him that he has drunk himself within six
months of an early grave . The doctors advice to Hobson is to stay out of the pub and to get a woman
back into the house and to take the doctors prescription . Hobson replies by saying I m particular to
what I put into my stomach and you ask me to give up my reasonable refreshment . After the doctor
has spoken to Hobson about getting Maggie back she walks in. She came because Tubby told her that
Hobson is seriously ill . The doctor notifies

If you want something or somebody to be a certain way, you have to show how beneficial that change can be. This reminds me of whenever I first became an officer in band. I do believe I was a good leader before this experience, but definitely not by example. I made a lot of bad choices, whether it be in my word choice or just making bad decisions about how I handle situations overall. It wasn t until I got my officer position when I really thought about how much I looked up to my leaders in the past. They influenced so much of my life by the littlest choices they made. The Preface of A Man for All Season, states that the play is not a straight forward narration, though more comparable to a poem. (Bolt, 1960:xvii). The Common Man comments on the action and characters in numerous asides as well as change costume on stage and indicates the locations. The asides extend the idea that The Common man s moral character is not so detached from society s, by removing himself from the actions he is able to conveniently disassociates himself from More s supposed treasonous acts. This is portrayed in the following lines I d let him out if I could but I can t. Not without taking up residence in there myself. And he s in there already, ... Hampton Reeves (2010:37) argues that Iago is the self proclaimed narrator of Othello, however, the most unreliable narrator to date. Iago s substantial use of asides also reveals his cleverness; he is able to not only direct but also to remark on the action of the play. Iago speaks his soliloquies before Othello, this draws the audience into his point of view. Iago s use of soliloquies supports his power of words. Shakespeare forces the audience to connive with the villain when he addresses the audience. We see Othello through Iago s narration. The opposition between Iago and Othello supports the idea of a foreign moor being positioned higher than a white Venison. When taking into consideration the point of view established by Iago, it is clear that Shakespeare was highly influenced by the global controversy over racial differences and origin during the Renaissance (Vaughan, 1996:5). As Iago is undeniably jealous of Othello his narrative point of view cannot be trusted as it is based on a subjective vendetta that he manifested in his words and actions towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Albert recognizes his need to change, he has reached his first step towards redemption. Harpo s redemption comes about much more quickly than Albert s does. Perhaps this is because Harpo is not as stubborn or awful as his father, or perhaps because there was always love between him and his wife, Sofia; however, he still does great wrongs towards Sofia and women and general. He has been taught that a man should be above all women in every aspect. Harpo eventually learns that he cannot control Sofia, he tries to beat her at first; but she ends up hurting him badly. Harpo s first step towards redemption is concluding that he and Sofia truly love each other, and that he needs to treat her well if he wants to keep her (Walker 38). Even after understanding this, he does not truly learn how much Sofia means to him until she is taken from him (Walker 89). Albert was able to overcome the stereotype set upon him, and all he grew up learning to become a person. He had to evaluate how he treated people in his life, and take action to correct his mistakes. • 9. Information, Education, Humanitarianism And The... Technology may be the most up and coming thing this nation has and will ever see. Technology is the way that resources and information can be implemented to fulfil human desires and needs. Technology and social change go hand in hand. Social change is any substantial change in human behavior patterns and cultures. I believe that that technology is most responsible for the recent social changes in four factors: the spreading of information, education, humanitarianism and the improvement of industry. The use of technology has allowed communication between countries, schooling online, and a new realm for business advertisement and even for national situational awareness. These four changes have had a major impact on us, as a nation. The changes in education have made achieving higher status and social class more attainable and the changes in industry has made profit and enhancement more possible for businesses and companies. I would bet a fair amount of my pay check on the thought that 95 percent of americans have either a cell phone or a personal computer. I would even bet that almost all of those personal electronics have access to the internet. These two forms of technology have become the most popular ways of communication over the years and continue to become more popular as the times goes on. I know that I use both my computer and cell phone for school, shopping, the news, and even to watch movies and television and I know for a fact that I am not alone in this. The ... Christmas carol is a novel written by Charles Dickens (1812 1870) during the Victorian times in London. For me to explore the moral messages I feel it is important to acknowledge exactly what the message is. Charles Dickens throughout the novel communicates; Charity, goodwill, family, kindliness and humility as moral messages, however, I personally feel Charles Dickens most powerful and important messages are Goodwill, Family and Charity however I will still look at all moral messages as they all play an important role in A Christmas Carol. The waka poetry pervades the life of the Heian Court, revealing the character s personality, illuminating their thoughts, and expressing the love and desires they have. Thus giving us, the readers a clarification of the relationships and progression of the characters. To answer the prompt of who would I date based on the poetry, I would say that there is no one in particular I would date. I can t speak for others, but some of the poems present in the Tale of Genji, and the situation that brought upon that poem, I can relate to and understand why the character felt that way. A Literary Analysis Of Everyday Use By Alice Walker Literary Analysis on Everyday Use A daughter who uses her mother s gifts in contrast to a daughter who preserves them, is far more valuable just like in Everyday use by Alice Walker because heritage values can be preserved. The story commenced with off with Dee, the eldest of two daughters, arrived at her mom s house with with modern attire, which truly shocked Mama. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here the tone shifted from prideful to authoritative. Dee demanded to own the two quilts. Mama said the quilts had been made by her ancestors and she hung up on them on the quilt frames on the front porch and made them (762). The quilt frames symbolize the object which helps organize and keep the family s generations alive, and the front porch symbolizes the connection of the family with the world. Mama knew the quilts were what kept the generations together, regardless of what the people around thought or did.The quilts needed to be used in order to keep the family traditions alive. Soon after, the protagonist came up with an excuse and said the lavender [pieces], [came] from old clothes which had been handed down (762). The lavender symbolizes love and devotion. The old clothes symbolize the legacy of the family s heritage. Although Dee only wanted to the quilts, Mama felt her past family s love and devotion through the quilts. Dee wanted the quilts because to preserve them, not because of an emotional connection to them. In addition, the young woman continued to offend her mother to the point where Mama told her the quilts were for Maggie, the youngest sister, and Dee exclaimed how her sister could never appreciate the quilts. She continued and said She d probably be backward enough to put them to everyday use (762). Everyday use represents the everyday use of customs and true purpose of the quilts. Don John, coined as Shakespeare s most passive villain is plagued by the society of Messina that rejected him from the very moment of birth. Looking through the idea of predetermined roles in life, we can come to realize the roots of Don John s agitation arises from his illegitimacy, stacking him at the bottom of the social hierarchy. Here he feels obliged to act the part of the villain, delegated by his very own blood. He has a reason for being evil. Due to his positions as a bastard, characters immediately reject Don John and regard him with suspicion. With his villainy stemming from his rejection from society, it becomes clear why he is treated as an outcast. He is degraded to just Don Pedro s illegitimate half brother, sometimes referred to simply as the Bastard. He is a clear stand out from the rest of the characters due to his melancholy and pessimism, since as characters in a comedy are supposed to be surrounded by a joyful atmosphere, he is the only character that brings darkness and sadness to the play. Most of the other characters in the play prove outgoing, talkative, or at least social, and while such chattiness leads to problems when other characters overhear secrets, Don John s silence emerges as more disagreeable than willingness to divulge secrets. When Don John returns to Messina with his brother, the governor Leonato addresses him with immense hesitation: If you swear, my Lord, you shall not be forsworn Essentially, Leonato questions Don John s declaration of loyalty to Don Pedro, and although Leonato covers his harsh greeting with a welcoming of Don John, his doubts remain dormant under the surface of his kind words. Don John notices the undercurrent of distrust directed towards him and responds, I am not of many words, but I thank you Through his simple statement, Don John acknowledges society s perpetual distrust of him and provides the audience with key insight into his character. In a powerful statement, Don John confirms I am trusted with a muzzle and enfranchised with a clog; therefore I have decreed not to sing in my cage. As a set of business activities that add value to goods and services sold to consumers, retailing involves key strategies in order to build a sustainable, competitive advantage for companies (Peterson Balasubramanian, 2002). These strategies involve identifying a retailer s target market and satisfying those needs. Through observing the retail strategy used by the company T2, this essay will ascertain and analyse their retail mix in order to determine the competitive advantage T2 has and whether it is sustainable or not. Before T2 can be analysed in terms of the retailing strategy used, it must first be defined as a retail outlet. It is a speciality, store based, franchise organisation (Reynolds et al., 2007) that was founded over 18 years ago by an interior designer named Maryanne Shearer (Shearer, The Making of T2, 2015). T2 has expanded its reach to over 65 stores worldwide, including New Zealand. All of the T2 retail stores provide a sensory experience for the customers, allowing them to explore the immersive world of tea drinking (Shearer, Philosophy, 2015). According to the article The differences between Liberal and Radical Feminism by Charles Rae, radical feminism is women being liberated for men. Radical feminists feel that there is a male based authority and power structure and that it is responsible for oppression and inequality, and that, as long as the system and its values are in place, society will not be able to be reformed in any significant way. Some radical feminists see no alternatives other than the total uprooting and reconstruction of society in order to achieve their goals. Another type of feminism is known as liberal feminism. This particular iteration of Le Moulin de la Galette is just one of many in a series done by Van Gogh. This piece depicts a beautiful scene of Montmartre in Paris. The background of this work appears to be a deep blue Paris sky during the day. However, what immediately allures the viewer s eye is the Moulin de Blute Fin, which is a large decommissioned windmill located in the upper center right portion of the canvas. Anterior to the Moulin de Blute Fin is a mixture of fences gardens, sheds, and shacks scattered about the hill. In addition to the Moulin de Blute Fin, a much smaller windmill, the Moulin à Poivre, can be found on the left side of the canvas. If one close enough they will also notice a man standing near the frontmost fence. One wouldn t be able to tell what exactly that man is doing, but while observing the painting in person, it is clear that he is painting. The bottom half of the portrait is filled entirely green grass, dainty bushes, yellow flowers, and other foliage. Finally, towards the very bottom of the canvas the blades of grass and flowers appear much more detailed than those above it. Their thick and deliberate brushstrokes allow them to appear much closer to the viewer than the rest of the shrubbery. Vincent van Gogh was born in Groot Zundert, Netherlands on March 30, 1853. • 24. William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry And The French... What constitutes honor in society? In Henry V, King Henry and the French invoke its constitution to incite men into war. Although the reasons that the English and French countrymen fight differ, the thought of honorably serving their countries stands alone as enough impetus to thrust both onto the battlefield. But how can honor command such incentive? The answer stems from individualistic pride. The characters in Henry V see how, as a collective, society has objectively agreed that service to one s country merits honor, but each character, as an individual, chooses to strive towards that honor because of his or her own pride. This notion of individualistic pride both consciously and subconsciously drives daily action. And in Henry V, the insidious intent of pride eclipses the known vicious nature of war. The motivation for King Henry to wage war on France, the subsequent response of France s leadership, and the action of the English countrymen emanates from the notion of honor, but how each individual responds to the desire to fulfill his pride ultimately shapes the field of Agincourt (4.7.86). Henry V illustrates how honor and pride craft the nature of war. King Henry s yearning for honor and the challenges to his pride that he receives from his wild younger days instigates him to pursue war with France. He understands the magnitude of war, even probing the archbishop of Canterbury s argument to challenge the Salic law: For God doth know how many now in health / Shall ... An analysis of porters value chain To analyse the specific activities through which firms can gain a competitive advantage, it is useful to model the firm as a chain of value creating activities. For this purpose, Porter identified a range of interrelated generic activities common to a wide range of firms. The resulting model is known as the value chain. According to Porter (1985), Competitive Advantage arises out of the way firms organise and arrange discrete activities . Through using the Value Chain, the activities performed by a firm competing in a particular industry can be grouped into categories as shown in the model below: Upstream Activities Downstream Activities Porter distinguishes between primary activities and support activities. As mentioned, gaining competitive advantage requires that a firm s value chain be managed as a system rather than a collection of separate parts. Reconfiguring the value chain by relocation, reordering or even eliminating certain activities can often lead to a major improvement in competitive position. Upstream and Downstream A firm s value chain links to the value chains of the upstream suppliers and downstream buyers. The result is a larger stream of activities known as the value system. The development of a firm specific competitive advantage not only depends on the firms value chain but also on the value system of which the firm is a part. In most industries, it is rather unusual that a single company performs all activities from product design, production of components, and final assembly to delivery to the final user by itself. Most often, organisations are elements of a value system or supply chain. Hence, value chain analysis should cover the whole value system in which the organization operates. Within the whole value system, there is only a certain value of profit margin available. This is the difference of the final price the customer pays and the sum of all costs incurred with the production and delivery of the product/service. We need to consider the significant role of TME, especially CAFs and immune cells, which profoundly participate in the metabolic interplay with neoplastic cells. Metabolic balance between all these players also promotes resistance to treatments, including not only the conventional chemotherapy or radiotherapy but also the most recent and advanced immunotherapies. Characterizing the mutual metabolic interplay between stromal, immune, and neoplastic cells will likely provide a better understanding of tumor progression and treatment resistance (Gentric, 2017). The Role of Chorus in Euripides Medea The Role of Chorus in Medea In section 18 of the Poetics Aristotle criticizes Euripides for not allowing the chorus to be one of the actors and to be a part of the whole and to share in the dramatic action, . . . as in Sophocles. Aristotle may be thinking of the embolima of Euripides later plays (satirized also by Aristophanes), but he is certainly wrong about the Medea. Its choral odes are not only all intimately related to the action but are also essential for the meaning of the play, particularly because here, as elsewhere (e.g. Hecuba), Euripides forces us reevaluate his main protagonist in midstream and uses the chorus (in part) to indicate that change. In her first speech Medea wins over the chorus by a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Medea thus comes to embody the problem of defining the nature of woman; and the female chorus is left just as puzzled as the everyone else. The fourth stasimon, sung after Medea has persuaded Jason to let their children bring gifts to conciliate his new bride, shows the chorus s initial sympathy for Medea changing to sympathy for her victims, the doomed children. They even have a word of sympathy for Jason, whom they here call kakonumphos, ill wedded (990) as they did in the parode (207), but now in compassion rather than in accusation. Medea continues to address the chorus as philai, my friends, as she exits with the irrevocable decision to kill her children (1236 37); but she uses this philia to define absolute loyalty to her plot that involves the destruction of philoi: compare her use of philos in her outrageous request to the Messenger for an unhurried telling so that she may relish the deed all the more (1127 33). In the fifth stasimon Euripides interrupts the chorus s song by the children s offstage cry at the moment of their murder, and also intertwines the chorus s singing with their cries at the moment of their death. • 41. The Striped Pyjamas Comparison It s completely normal to feel vulnerable and fragile throughout our life. It s something we all go through as people. I have chosen the theme vulnerability and how it affects people. This particular theme is conveyed through two books Animal Farm written by George Orwell and Boy in The Striped Pyjamas written by John Boyne. It s also portrayed through the poems Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy and Let me describe for you her eyes by Glenn Colquhoun. The authors all use effective ways and techniques to convey this theme. The theme of vulnerability and how it affects people is shown quite clearly throughout the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell. The theme was portrayed mostly through the pigs, as they were the lower class because they re well known as the fat, ugly and lazy animals on the farm. They were often verbally abused and treated with disrespect. The birds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem displays the theme of vulnerability and how it affects people. It can be 5 years since you ve ended it with this person but just the sound of their name can send shivers down your spine. You will never fully forget. Just like the author of Let me describe for you her eyes, Carol Ann Duffy wants the readers to know that love is unkind and cruel. Love will always stick with you, like a leech. • 42. The Pros And Cons Of Japanese Internment December 7th, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Army successfully pulled of the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. After this attack the government of Canada used the war measures act to remove all Japanese Canadian citizens that live 160km from the Pacific Coast and put them in internment camps until 1949, four years after WW2. Fast Forward to 1988 and the Canadian government gives an apology to the Japanese, however the apology was for more than just Japanese Internment it was for the pain and suffering, discrimination, and for leaving Japanese citizens with nothing. One of the most justified reasons for the apology would be how the Canadian Government caused the pain and suffering amongst Japanese Canadians. Firstly, the 22,000 Japanese Canadian citizens and residents were taken from their homes on Canadas West Coast without any charge or due process and exiled to remote areas of Eastern British Columbia (Greg Robinson, Internment of Japanese Canadians). In addition, the RCMP arrested suspected operatives while the Royal Canadian Navy impounded 1,200 Japanese fishing boats, and to avoid racist backlash Japanese newspapers, as well as schools were voluntarily shut down. In this time the Japanese population in Canada had been greatly damaged and families became separated into the internment camps. Moving on, my second point for further justification is the Labor Camps Japanese Canadians were placed in, further increasing pain and suffering. Because of the amount of political ... Trafficking in persons that is the modern type of slavery has raised public concern and attention increasingly. The international and United States law defines human trafficking also known as trafficking in persons as encircling two different types of illegal activity, for instance, sexual exploitation and forced labor. Human trafficking entails coercion or deception or both of another person for the intention of sexual, labor of other types of humiliation, unlike the smuggling of people. In several circumstances, traffickers acquire and retain control of the victim through the excuse of debt oppression. During trafficking, the victims remain helpless since they have to rely on the dealers for survival in terms of food and water. They have to submit to them and remain loyal lest they will be thrown in the way or assaulted and raped. Victims are frequently emotionally and physically abused into obedience through confinement, forced drug use, violent threats, starvation, gang rapes, and horrific beatings. Women and men of all nationalities are usually the abusers of these victims, and in the mainly hard situations, sufferers are socialized to become dynamic partakers and traffickers themselves. Researches and reports of cases of human trafficking documented below exemplify the diversity of this occurrence in the Mexican United States context (Shelley, 2010). Forced Labor and Labor Exploitation is one of the main faces of human trafficking. Most individual trafficked or smuggled are for the purposes of forced labor and labor exploitation. The Rise Of The Progressive Era During the Progressive Era, which was known as a large reform movement, there was a widespread across the United States of political reform and social activism. The main focus and goal of the Progressives and their movement was lowering government involvement and eliminating corruption in the government. Progressives reacted to problems caused by large factories and cities. Furthermore, they attacked big corporations, such as the Armour meat packing company and others, for how harsh their practices were. The progressives exposed these companies and how they treated workers, removed competitors, and set high prices. The meatpacking industry capitalized when the growth of livestock farming in the Midwest started to grow rapidly. Meatpacking companies and industries, such as the Armour meat packing company, handle the slaughtering, processing, and distribution of animals including cattle and pigs. Although the meatpacking industry created a lot of jobs, working in a meatpacking company was not luxurious because the factories were unsanitary, unregulated, and tremendously dangerous. In the Progressive Era, influential journalists wanted to expose the government and big business of their flaws to American citizens with using factual and proven evidence against them. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When too large a dose is absorbed into the system according to the The United Nation news it can cause health issues relating to skeletal and dental fluorosis. The compound is also shown to affect the brain and kidney negatively. Fluoridation is a system by which the town or country is taking responsibility for its people. The proposed action is not to fluoridate teeth by adding fluoride to the entire water supply which will affect every person s entire body with fluoride, but to instead educate about the benefits of using toothpaste which people already commonly use. People can suffer adverse effects because the government would further their own goal. There is no controversy about the people and side effect because I propose not fluoridating. So the evidence is that there will be 100% no risk to getting the side effects, and yet there is no limitation of restricting tooth hygiene and maintaining tooth health through personal care. The evidence of science is that not using a material eliminates the potential for side effects.
