Careers At Lodging And Food And Beverage 2
CAREERS IN LODGING AND FOOD AND BEVERAGE 2
Lodging, food and beverage is becoming popular in the world today. A lot of people are going to
college in order to be in this type of work. They learn how each field work and also how challenging
the field has become over the years. It is fascinating how much these fields are so vast but yet similar.
Many people that want to get into this field find that it can be helpful to learn firsthand how these
industries have functioned economically in the past and figure out how they will function in years to
come. Lodge Management requires a person to have great communication skills and must be diverse.
The Key management functions are planning, organizing, decision making, communicating, human
resources and motivating and controlling (Introduction to hospitality pg.539). These functions can be
stressful. Lodge management roles require a person to be on their feet all day, sometimes more than a
regular 8 hour day, they usually require them to work during the day and then have to come back on
another shift if necessary. Most managers that work in the lodging fields are on call most of the time;
even if it s the front desk manager, the housekeeping manager or food and beverage. They must be
able to handle customer complaints in a timely manner to satisfy the customer. General Managers are
responsible for all

The Seduction Of Mimi By Lina Wertmuller
Lina Wertmuller s film, The Seduction of Mimi, examines the capricious political stance and morals of
metalworker, Carmelo Mardocheo, known as Mimi, throughout the film. One aspect of the film that
enhances important elements in the plot is the music. Composed by Piero Piccioni, the music impacts
how certain scenes fit into the plot or how said scenes are to be perceived by the audience. The
purpose of the music in the film is to adequately express, add a parodic quality to, or satirize the
sentiments of the scenes. The music in The Seduction of Mimi is meant to be expressive of emotions
in certain scenes. One such scene in which the music is employed in this way is the scene in which
Mimi encounters head mafioso, Vito Tricario, after his

Narcotic Officer Case Summary
In this scenario a newly promoted narcotic detective was assigned to a precinct with a rampant drug
problem. At his first briefing, the squad commander insisted that they take extraordinary tactics to
reduce street crimes and homicides. The officer was unsure of the tactic he was referring to and asked
his partner to elaborate; his partner explained that sometimes to increase the amount of arrest of top
level dealers they planted evidence and used force to gain information from the suspects. Because of
the information received the he requested for an immediate transfer.
The commander of the precinct notified the officer that this is real world, and extreme measures are
needed to combat the precinct s problem. Once in the field he noticed

Insider Trading And Trading Of A Public Company
Before we can delve into the topic of Insider Trading it is important to understand what insider trading
and what are its implications. Let us begin with the definitions of insider trading:
Insider trading is the trading of a public company s stock or other securities (such as bonds or stock
options) by individuals with access to non public information about the company. In various countries,
insider trading based on inside information is illegal. This is because it is seen as unfair to other
investors who do not have access to the information. Wikipedia, 2014
Insider trading is defined as a malpractice wherein trade of a company s securities is undertaken by
people who by virtue of their work have access to the otherwise non public information which can be
crucial for making investment decisions.
ET, 2014
We must note here that insider trading has two aspects: legal insider trading and illegal insider trading
:
Insider trading can be illegal or legal depending on when the insider makes the trade: it is illegal when
the material information is still non public trading while having special knowledge is unfair to other
investors who don t have access to such knowledge. Illegal insider trading therefore includes tipping
others when you have any sort of non public information. Directors are not the only ones who have the
potential to be convicted of insider trading. People such as brokers and even family members can be
guilty.
The legal version is when

Ranked 88th top brand in the world in 2012, and 91st in 2013 (Interbrand, 2013), Starbucks has come
a long way from being a tiny shop selling an assortment of coffee beans and distributing coffee

Political influences mainly affect Starbucks through government imposed minimum wage
fluctuations. Their workers are trained to perform few tasks such as coffee making, food preparation
and cashiering. With such few job functions, there is hardly a need for highly experienced or educated
employees. This would allow Starbucks to pay their workers at minimum wage or just slightly higher,
making Starbucks very sensitive towards increasing the minimum wage of their workers as that would
increase labour costs. Other political influences that can affect Starbucks profits are regulatory and
licensing restriction, government rent control, tax base determination and labor laws.
The increasing demand of food and beverage services causes Starbucks rapid economic environment
growth. Starbucks greatest concern is its relationship with its coffee bean producers. Nations
producing coffee are influential on coffee purchasing companies. This is because coffee is the world s
second largest traded supply, and prices of coffee beans are being subject to significant market
volatility. Starbucks demands for premium green coffee beans, resulting in irregular pricing and are
usually sold at negotiated prices. Starbucks greatest concern is that the producers would ally and
artificially make the coffee prices inflate (Diedrich, 1999).

Bomb Recycling Robots
With lots of talk revolving around robots in the news, be it from artificial intelligence (AI) driven cars
or that they are going to take all our jobs, there is an interesting discussion to be had about it. An
article written by the Forrester states that robots will replace 7% of US jobs by 2025 , it does seem like
a large problem, but it is not all bad news. With AI driven cars replacing normal cars on the road and
drones taking to the skies, there are many new ways that robots will be able to save lives in the
upcoming years that should not be over looked. Driverless cars are poised to take millions of jobs
when they are fully approved for the masses, but there is a silver lining to it. With the technology
getting better for AI driven cars where little to no human input is required, people have been ... Show

The first bomb disposal robot was used in the 1970s (Army Technology). Since all bombs are not
created equally and can be placed in various location, remote detonation is not always the best choice.
This use to require bomb squad personnel to defuse live bombs, putting them at risk of injury or death.
Older bomb disposal robots would require two robots, one to capture the bomb on a live feed and the
other to use its tools (army Technology). The robots now are not just robots strapped with its own
bombs, but more versatile camera mounted one instead. Some of the more costly robots can be
controlled with little to no training and can be controlled with just a screen and a joy stick. The robot
can be deployed at a safe distance and then driven to the location and deal with it there. The person
controlling the robot can then use the camera and controls to try and defuse the bomb as if they were
there themselves. Some of the newer robots can be controlled with gloves covered in sensors, allowing

The Diversity Within The Workplace Essay
INTRODUCTION
The need for one organization to outperform the others has given rise to a diverse workforce
comprising of different individuals who significantly differ from one another. Diversity in the
workplace has been defined as the differences and similarities among the employees that make up an
organization in terms of age, cultural background, sex, religion (Anon., n.d.). The diversity in the
workplace in terms of age is more often referred to as generational diversity.
The desire by some to stay and work longer has led to the current workforce capturing many
generations. With countries such as the US capturing as many as 5 distinct generations, others have
been able to capture 4 and 3. The various generations segment the different age ranges into
generations generally governed by different attitudes to work, preferences and value systems. The
attitude, preference, and values held by any generation affect the way they approach their works. 21st
century organizations tend to prefer managers who can deal with the different generations as they have
different characteristics and present diverse challenges. The attitude of the various generations greatly
differs in the workplace. The generations in the workforce have been segmented into the following
demographics: the Traditionalists (also known as the silent generation or the greatest generation); the
baby boomers; generation X; generation Y (also known as Millennial), and finally generation Z. An

My Life Of My Grandma
Ever since I was small I had been close to my Grandma. Although she lived far away in
Mexico, we always went to go visit her during the summer. She was always sick and had a horrible
cough. She kept going to many doctors and kept talking the medicine the gaved her. We thought it was
just a cold and it was going to go away with time but it didn t. It was during our next summer visit that
we noticed that her cough hadn t gone away that we decided to take her to a specialized doctor in the
City of Mexico. What we were told after a the check up was shocking.
My beloved Grandma had cancer in her left lung and was spreading.
I glanced at my dad and saw pain in his eyes, he was devastated. I went over to hug him and
murmured, Todo va a estar bien mi abuelita es fuerte. everything is going to be fine my grandma is
strong. That night I tried getting some sleep but I couldn t. The thought of losing my grandma made
me want to cry. I heard my mom comfort my dad from the other room. Trata de dormir mañana

1:00 a.m that my eyes finally closed. In the morning I woke up got ready and saw that a few of my
uncles had come over, to discuss my Grandma s sickness. I could hear them say Le diremos? should
we tell her one of my uncles asked No creo que debamos, si le dicemos se va a poner mas mala de lo

Effects Of The New Deal On Women
Females and the New Deal
During the early half of the twentieth century, the United States went through a period of financial
crisis which became known as the Great Depression. To get the country out of this depression, the
federal government under the leadership of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt devised the New
Deal. This program provided economic aid in the form of job creation and training, as well as
financial aid by creating federal programs such as Social Security and by providing accountability for
the national bank system. Many people were saved from starvation because of the opportunities they
were given through the New Deal. This included new chances for women to move beyond their
socially dictated roles and become individuals outside their married lives.
Before the Great Depression, there were limited job opportunities for women in the United States.
Women were expected to get married and when they did, to give up their jobs if they had them and to
conform to the social norms of the proper domestic American wife. Husbands were the head of the
household and thus the breadwinners. Originally when the New Deal departments were created the
government reinforced these gender stereotypes (Ware 1987). If a woman was married, she was barred
from participating in the New Deal, even if she was dealing with a husband who could not or would
not work. The preconceived notion was that women did not need to work if they had a husband, an
idea which was shown to be

for students to learn because it encompasses so many different disciplines. On top of that, society is
characterized by increasingly rapid social and technological changes that affect what social studies
content is being taught to students (NCSS, 1988). For many years students have been forced to learn
low cognitive level information that lacks meaning and fails to transfer to real life situations. For these

In spite of the demands of high stakes testing, when Ms. Smith realized that social studies was
beginning to slowly disappear from the curriculum altogether she decided to take a stand. Ms. Smith is
now the sixth grade English and World History Department Head at Claremore Public Schools.
Although she does teach from a textbook, Ms. Smith employs numerous hands on activities to convey
subject matter to the students. For each section the students must create a project that coincides with
the lesson. Her favorite section is on the Middle Ages in Europe. During this lesson the entire sixth
grade participates in meaningful learning activities such as making head gear and shields, memorizing
poems from this era that they must recite to their classmates, and learning the requirements for
becoming a knight or a lady. Students earn certificates for acts of chivalry and the individuals who
have the most certificates at the end of the unit are awarded a crown as 6th grade King and Queen.
The unit culminates with a field trip to the Renaissance Festival and the Castle of Muskogee, a
landmark in Oklahoma, which is where the Renaissance Festival is held (Personal Communication, T.
Smith, December 12, 2011). These activities are much more meaningful than simply reading the text
and completing the section review. This allows students to

The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution set people away from farms and small villages and moved them to cities
and towns because of the job opportunities that arose in the cities. The Industrial Revolution not only
helped people move along in the late 1700s and early 1800s but also it has made the people what they
are today. During the Industrial Revolution, the movement from an agrarian society to an industrial
one reshaped the roles of families, widen the gap between classes, and led to the developments in
communication, transportation, and other scientific fields that completely changed humanity.
The Industrial Revolution started in the late 1700s and early 1800s which helped the transition from
agrarian to one of industrial. Before the factories were made, the common folk would work on the
farms that would make the food that they would need to survive, and they would also make their own
clothes. All the clothes and materials that the people had before the industrial revolution they would
make themselves because there was no mass production of items being made and the people who
would sell the items never had enough in their inventory for everyone to buy. Factories started to arise
making it easier to mass produce items that the people wanted, like cloths and eventually everyday
materials. Those factories and opportunities for work is why people moved into cities.( History.com)

Domain Name System Case Study
The United States government announced on March 14, 2014 that they had intentions to bring to an
end their role in the supervision of the Domain name system (Post, Kehl, 2015). Known as the IANA
transition it is of a grave importance in the chronicle of the worldwide grid and the rapport among
government control and network governance. The DNS to the Internet is certainly a notable business
accomplishment, and its efficient performance has been strategic to the stunning development of the
Internet throughout the past twenty years. To ensure that the system operates properly and to
accomplish its objective of widespread name uniformity, the doings of millions of discrete domain
operatives has to be coordinated by some means. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The changeover in 1998 1999, was a victory and those surfing the internet barely took notice when it
occurred (Post, Kehl, 2015).
In 2001, 2003, and 2006 ICANN and NTIA would move into an agreement towards the execution of
the IANA functions. NTIA on July 2, 2012 gave ICANN a genuine reasonable procurement procedure,
the current contract of IANA functions (Ntia.doc.gov, n.d). The indenture extends from October 1,
2012 to September 30, 2015, and has option periods of two years if the two periods are put into
practice the expiration for the agreement will be on September 30, 2019 (Ntia.doc.gov, n.d.). ICANN,
as the IANA functions operator executes organizational duties allied by means of the registries that are
linked to the three main IANA functions. It is a crucial receptacle for protocol number and name
registries utilized in scores of Internet procedures. ICANN upholds several of the numbers and codes
within Internet proprieties. It organizes distributions of Internet procedures and Autonomous System
numbers to the Regional Internet Registries, and in turn, ISP is allocated the numbers along with
others within their geographical districts. Root zone file change requests are processed by ICANN for
TLDs and a Root Zone WHOIS databank is available publicly with recent and corroborated contact
data for every TLD registry operator. ICANN, in all three cases, as the IANA functions operator,

Mayan Math History
Like each other part of human advancement, mathematics has its own particular birthplace focused
around the needs of humanity in searching for understanding. Mathematics emerged from the
necessity to quantify time and number. The earliest evidence of counting occurred in mountains of
Africa were notched bones and scored pieces of wood and stone were discovered. As human
advancements started to surface in Asia and the near east, frameworks and essential appreciation of
arithmetic, geometry and polynomial math started to develop. Mathematics has made a lot of progress

The importance of astronomy and calendar (18 months a year; 20 days a month) calculations to the
Mayans required mathematics, which lead them create an advanced number system of its time. The
system was on base 20 and most times base 5, which very likely originated from counting on fingers
and toes. The numerals consisted of only three symbols: zero was represented as a shell shape, one, a
dot and five a bar, so calculation was basically adding or subtracting bars and dots. In spite of not
having the idea of a division, they delivered greatly exact cosmic perceptions utilizing no instruments
other than sticks in form of crosses to view astronomical objects and had the capacity measure the
length of the sunlight based year to a far higher level of exactness than that utilized as a part of Europe

advanced estimation of 29.53059). Due to the geographic disconnect, Mayan mathematics hardly

Morbius Fatal Folly
As pointed out by Merrell Knighten in his essay called The Triple Paternity of Forbidden Planet, the
main difference between Shakespeare s The Tempest and the 1956 science fiction adaptation
Forbidden Planet (referred to as FP) is the use and control of power. In The Tempest, Prospero knows
what power he holds through the use of his books and spells, and ultimately uses these powers to
restore order to the island. However, in forbidden Planet, Morbius powers are unknown to him and
ultimately lead to his demise. This essay will show how Morbius may be considered a more disastrous
character than Prospero due to his lack of realization of the power which ... Show more content on

For Miranda s lover Ferdinand, the film inserts Commander Adams who is in fact the leader of the
rescue expedition sent to relieve Dr. Morbius and his supposed companions. There are no relations
between the film and the play with regards to Morbius fellow colonizers of Altair 4, but this has to do
with the fact that the film was a sci fi adaptation. The drunken butler Stephano is countered in the film
with the Tennessee bourbon sloshing space cook. The character of Caliban resonates in the film by use
of the Id monster, and finally Ariel is engrossed through the character of Robby the Robot. A closer
reading of some of the characters in FP will reveal parallels outlined by Campos. Campos shines light
on the fact that [Prospero and Morbius] are figures that, isolated from the rest of mankind, have
devoted their lives to the study of some books which have granted them an extraordinary, almost
supernatural power (Campos, 285). The main connections between the two are their utilization of
science and magic. As pointed out by Campos, the film gives a clear implication that science becomes
the magic of the future (286). This statement seems to be truthful as in Shakespeare s time magic
would be thought to be no different from the scientific breakthroughs of our time. For example a
Shakespearean audience would marvel at the strides science has taken in the modern day, such as the
utilization of electricity.

These are the 10 dimensions of the superstring theory. Evidence of the Multiverse and Multiverse
Theories There are 5 main theories on why the multiverse is possible. The first theory is that we don t
know the shape of space time. Space time could be flat and stretch on forever causing multiple
universes. If this theory is true there would be universes that repeat themselves because atoms can
only be put together so many ways (Howell). The second theory is eternal inflation. This states that
some areas of space stop inflation, but some continue to get larger, so our universe could be a bubble
sitting in a network of bubble universes. In this theory the laws of physics could be different for each
universe because they aren t linked (Howell). The third theory is that multiple universes can follow the
theory of quantum mechanics, and daughter universes. If you follow the laws of probability it suggests
that for every outcome that could come from your decisions there would be a range of universes, each
with a different outcome from your decisions (Howell). The fourth theory of the multiverse is that of
mathematical universes. This theory suggests that the structure mathematics could change depending
on which universe you are in (Howell). The last multiverse theory goes back to the fact that spacetime
could be flat. But, the number of possible particle configuration in multiple

Narrative Essay On A Winter Night
On a cold Winter night two people lay to sleep. So far away but that would never stop the dreaming

December 1,2003 Concord,Massachusetts Anna:
It s nighttime in Concord. I began to grow tired as the time progresses to 10:30 pm. I go up the stairs
leading to my room not knowing what is to come in this night slumber. I can only imagine what I

Just before I finally fall asleep I hear the train blow its whistle down the road from my house.

fall from the clouds. I jumped from the clouds so that I could watch the twinkling stars. As I jump and
fall I m then greeted with a hard landing. I look to see what I landed on and it just so happened to be a
boy. I jump up surprised that I didn t squish him from how far I fell. I m sorry I didn t mean to land on

Bisexual, Transgender And Queer Community By Ellen Degeneres
Since women obtained their rights, they have struggled to earn the same respect as men in the work
area. Women do not earn the same amount of money as men do, and are more likely to not get the job
or the same respect as a man in the industry. In addition, people have also discriminate women s
sexuality; plenty of people have being denied the job due to their sexual orientation. It was not till
2003 when the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer community (LGBTQ) were protected
by law from discrimination. Throughout the last few years people have gotten the opportunity to live
openly regarding their sexual identity, as some governments have permitted LGBTQ marriage people
started being more openly about their sexuality. Being part of the LGBTQ can affect the job people
may get and how people treats the LGBTQ community in their jobs. Now days, people still get
discriminated on their workplace for their sexual orientation making it hard for them to feel
comfortable in their workplace, women mostly get sexually and verbally assaulted by co workers.
Ellen DeGeneres is a well known comedian, talk show host, and activist for animals and LGBTQ
rights; who also happens to be lesbian. She came out as a lesbian in 1997, causing her career to have a

is the one that has to explain the change to the analysts. Kouzes and Posner (2012) found that Before
you can be a leader of others, you need to know clearly who you are and what your core values are.
Once you know that, then you can give those values a voice and feel comfortable sharing them with
others (p. 17). Elizabeth s behavior is not ethical, but she is in a similar position as Greg. Obey the

I would be surprised if this was the first time such a redo of a report was ordered by the owners. This

employees feel that unethical actions are being performed, it taints all messages being communicated.

Abstract This paper presents unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) which is an integration of
shunt and series Active Power Filters and aims to compensate for voltage sag, voltage and current
unbalance and other power quality problems [1],[5],[6]. The UPQC helps to improve power quality at
the point of installation on power distribution system or industrial power system. This paper deals
with design of UPQC by considering a controller based on PQ theory. Reference signal generation for
shunt active filter is done by using PQ theory while for series dual PQ theory is used [2], [3].
Reference signals are then applied to pulse generators. Pulse generation is carried out by using
hysteresis band controller for each filter. The validation of proposed scheme is carried out by using
Matlab/Simulink.
Index Terms Unified Power Quality Conditioner, Active Power Filter, hysteresis control, voltage and
current unbalance.

The Effects Of Apocalyptic Discourse On Human Behaviour...
How Environmental Apocalypse is represented in new narratives
In the last decade, mass media have created some fatalist stories about climate change due hot
summers and cold winters that never have been registered before. This strategy has the tendency to
describe the effects of global warming on television, newspapers, cinema, even literature; which can
be associated to an apocalypse discourse. But this apocalypse view embraces the role of awareness on
human behaviour towards the environment. However, this apocalypse discourse sets a problem,
because the excessive use of the media motivates confusion and misunderstandings by the audience.
On the other hand, this apocalypse could be compared as a religious element to create fear beneath the
general public, for the reason that humanity s sins have provoked climate change on Earth. Because of
this, the present paper will assess the relevance of apocalyptic discourse as an ideology in the media,
which is used as a precautionary principle to climate change.
To aim this goal the idea will be discussed as it follows: what is the apocalypse; how this idea has
been represented by contemporary narratives, and what strengths and weakness presents. With this
structure, it is pretended to understand the apocalypse narrative on environmental issues, and if this
narrative helps to motivate to act within the audience . Therefore, it will be helpful to start with Greg
Garrard, who explains that apocalypse provides an emotionally

AAnalysis On The Advertisement For Cantus And Herbal...
Aristotle Appeal is a strategy for advertiser that is used frequently by advertiser as an effective way to
sale and introduce their product to the consumer, such as: Logos, Pathos, and Ethos. Even if the
product itself is not attractive, it can still be popular by a y. For example, the ads for Cantus and
Herbal Essences in Essences have used pathos successfully to attract their target audience which is
African American women who do not have a lot of money to spend on unnecessary product.
The advertisement for Cantus (Shea Butter) from the November 2015 issue of Essence shows an
African American women smiling to the camera and showing her fluffy hair. The upper half of her
body covered the entire page and her also rise her left hand and put it next to her shoulder. Her face
looks confident and the slogan be your own BEAUTIFUL also mentioned the point that to be
confident about yourself. The second advertisement is for Herbal Essences which is a shampoo from
November 2015 issue of Essence shows a half naked African American woman standing on the left
side of the page with her left hand behind her head and right hand beside her neck and smiling. This
advertisement positioned their logo Herbal essences on the upper right corner and two pictures of their

Characteristics Of The Biochar Derived From Pine Fruit...
Characteristics of the biochar
The characteristics of the biochar derived from pine fruit residue are shown in Table 1. The adsorptive
properties of sorbent are greatly dependent on their particle size and distribution throughout the mass.
Effective size and uniformity coefficient are the two important parameters for treatment of
contaminated water using adsorbent as filtering media in column operation where control of particle
size is critical. The effective size corresponds to the sieve size through which 10% of the material will
pass, and the uniformity coefficient is the ratio of the sieve size that will just pass 60% of the material
to the effective size. Generally, the rate of adsorption get enhanced as the particle size decreases due
availability of increased surface area. Therefore, the adsorbent with smaller effective sizes provide
better adsorption capacity due to better the access to the surface area and faster the rate of adsorption.
The typical range of effective size and uniformity coefficient for activated carbon as adsorbent media
practiced satisfactory is D10 = 0.15 0.35 mm and Cu = 2 3 respectively. In our case, Table 1 shows
that the biochar prepared have an effective size of 0.055 mm and uniformity coefficient 2.87. The
more uniform adsorbent media is expected to provide the slower head loss buildup and therefore,
careful consideration of particle sized distribution is must for dynamic column design.
The Cd(II) adsorption capacity of biochar depends upon

Durkheim and the Relevance of His Theories in Modern Society
Treat social facts as things is an expression that epitomises the works of Emile Durkheim. This essay
focuses on four main sociological concepts proposed by the functionalist Emile Durkheim; the
division of labour; mechanical and organic solidarity; anomie and suicide, and examines their
relevance in contemporary society.
Along with Marx and Weber, Durkheim is considered one of the founding members of modern
sociology. He is also credited with making sociology a science through his application of scientific
and empirical research. Durkheim believed that sociology should be seen as a science separate from
other sciences such as psychology, by studying social facts objectively as things. (Kiviston, 2011)
Through his four major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(McDonald, 2009)
Organic solidarity arose as a result of the industrial revolution when society became more multifaceted
and new ways of working emerged. This saw a decline in the collective conscience regarding shared
morals and beliefs as society began to progress and expand. The division of labour that arises as a
result of organic solidarity is complex and varied, resulting in people becoming more individualistic
and yet also interdependent. Society s social bonds now centred around the fact that people were
dependant on each other for the good and services required in their day to day lives. (McDonald,
2009)
As organic solidarity is typical of complex, industrialised societies, Durkheim s theory is very
applicable to modern life and the first world in particular. Individuality is a major feature of people
living in the western world today e.g. the USA, UK, and Ireland. This is evident in our political and
social thinking. Much emphasis is placed on personal rights and the belief that nothing is more
important than us. (Hughes et al, 1995) Meanwhile we are not self sufficient; we rely heavily on the
expertise of thousands globally to live our daily lives e.g. the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the
cars we drive etc. (Macionis and Plummer, 2005)
A huge increase in individualism came about because of organic solidarity resulting in a breakdown of
moral and ethical boundaries

Compare And Contrast Sparta And Athens
Athens and Sparta were once city states in Greece who lived in harmony with several different beliefs.
Sparta was a military based city state, they had 100 percent military participation to provide the
protection for the greeks. Their government operated as an oligarchy and often was lead by military
leaders to make the right decisions in the eyes of a tactical or military standpoint.Their economy was
depended mainly on agriculture . Sparta believed in equality allowing women to receive the same
education as men to further empower their city state mentally and physically. The city state of Athens
was quite the opposite, their government was run as a democracy meaning whoever lead them was
elected, they were also known as the father of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the rise of and dominance of Macedonia, through his leadership of the 40,000 plus army he controlled
and his ability to capture lands and seize their silver. His excellent leadership skills as a king
influenced all of the Macedonia and gave them the surge of power that they all wanted, through his
several military campaigns seizing lands and silver allowed him to be considered a paradigm for any
leader. Alexander the Great passed away at the age of 32 from a fever while he was in Babylon, after
his passing all the wealth accumulated was distributed to several military leaders to continue his
influence even after he was gone. The republic of Rome was a very long era lasting from 27 BC to
476 AD where the republic was not led by a single person. The Roman Republic operated as three
branches the senate, magistrates, and assemblies, all of these branches were responsible for making
and reviewing new laws and establishing authority. This system written in the Roman Constitution
created a checks and balances government allowing the equal distribution of power among the
political leaders of Rome. Even with the constitution behind it the Republic eventually fell because of

My results fell into the LEED categories as follows, one under sustainable site (Cyclepods), one under
water efficiency (CISTA Rainwater Harvesting System), three under energy and atmosphere (Solar
Water Heater, Solar Water Bulb and Planting trees close to buildings), four under materials and
resources (ERO Robots, Bubble Deck Concrete System, Pitcher Filters and Pallet Furniture) and one
under indoor environmental quality (Houseplants). The main source of gathering information was
based on online research and personal knowledge from previous experiences. Some of the results
showed great benefits with minimal need of financial sources to install or maintain, others were more
technologically advanced, thus more expensive but served their purpose in an excellent manner in the
area of their field. In conclusion, the benefits of these results affect the personal health, the
environment and the economy. More awareness and dedication to these studies would increase the
efficiency of those products and their availability to the people.

Foster Care Ethics
Hennessy Garcia Humans naturally form their own institutions such as a family, system of
government, business, etc.... Institutions/groups are deceiving and get away with a lot. For instance,
cigarette companies advertise a product that can cause cancer. However, it seems that no one blames
the company for selling it. They will blame the individual for smoking it. It is easier to blame the
individual for making terrible choices, but it is ignorant to solely believe that individual is at fault for
their personal choices. Even when it comes to morality, people tend to blame individuals for having
flawed morals, but groups can influence immoral actions. For example, when someone commits
murder or steals it s simple to conclude that they are morally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Groups homes should be more overlooked. A group home should ensure the safety of all members.
Clearly, the head of the group home wasn t doing his/her job, which is why Randy got beaten up and
nobody didn t do anything to stop it. Another problem with the foster care system is the waiting game
to be adopted. The foster care process should look into other members of a child s family, so that way
they don t end up with random people who may or may not offer permanent care. The foster care
system in general puts kids like Randy in a constant cycle of waiting. Waiting for someone who cares
enough to display love and offer a security. Based on Ms. Anna s hospitalization, we see that Randy
was quickly out of Anna s care and taken straight into a group home. This isn t fair to Randy because
jumping from someone s care to another shows how Randy doesn t have anyone that truly cares for
him. If he had a permanent parental figure in his life, he may be loved and his safety would be
ensured. Carver offered to care for him and the foster care system denied him. The foster care system
failed Randy by not providing him the security, love and the proper care he needs. This affects Randy
immensely because, in season five episode six, he is seen pushing a kid down in the group home for
being in his way. He was basically chewed by the system and his sensitive nature seems to be

Dead Orca Research Paper
In 2002, a deceased female orca was discovered on Dungeness Spit in Washington. The dead orca
contained 1000 parts per million (ppm) PCBs, an estimated six times more than the average Pacific
Northwest orca (1). PCBs, or polychlorinated biphenyls, are a type of manufactured chemical. Their
use was predominantly within electrical equipment, acting as coolants or lubricants, along with being
used in paints, cement, or other common material (2). Such chemicals are a large issue in the PNW,
despite being banned decades ago.
Today, killer whales are in danger of becoming extinct due to pollution of substances like PCBs. Due
to biomagnification, chemicals like those mentioned only magnify in populations higher on the food
chain. How does this effect the orca population? Pollution at these levels are creating various health
issues in the large mammals and decreasing their numbers rapidly. Equally worrisome is the fact that
humans consume the same contaminated food as orcas (e.g., salmon). ... Show more content on

Generally containing about 150 ppm, killer whales are known to have numerous issues due to these
high levels of contaminants (3). Seals have been known to have immune complications when carrying
less than 10 ppm PCBs (3). Hence, orcas are heavily effected, facing a shorter life expectancy, birth
defects, chromosomal issues, and cancer (4). Unfortunately, salmon is one of the top contributors to
the pollution in orcas, and a food source for the majority of humans. In consequence, people are at risk
for the same negative effects of biomagnification as orcas. For this reason, there is often a
recommended limit on seafood consumption. Some examples of PCBs effects on humans are cancer
and development problems

Examples Of Fire Escape In The Glass Menagerie

hunger to escape. After Laura left the University she used to go to the museum, it seems as if has a

from everyone and the the world around her. The need for the characters to escape in the play The

Using GIS in the Study of the Steel Industry
How GIS is used in the study case? The U.S. steel industry continues to face formidable competition
globally, especially from a costing, supply chain, and procurement perspective. The intensity of this
competition is forcing many steel producers to look for greater efficiencies form their own operations.
One of the most effective continues to be the streamlining how product, project, and process
information to create a unified system of record which can be used for knowledge management
(Armstrong, 2008). From an analysis of the readings in Using GIS Technology for Document and
Asset Management (Armstrong, 2008) it is apparent that visual representation of information and
knowledge taxonomies across the various locations of a U.S. Steel manufacturing plant are invaluable
in increasing efficiency and performance. These manufacturing centers often rely on a very broad set
of content based sources, information and knowledge all used for keeping each production machine
running efficiently while also ensuring that the steel mill workers have the information they need to do
their jobs. The case study is unique from a GIS perspective in that it combines the spatial data related
to documents and knowledge repositories throughout an enterprise to the workflows associated with
them. The myriad of data sources throughout any business have a high percentage of content
associated with location based intelligence as well (Armstrong, 2008). The case study shows how the

Amenorrhoea
INTRODUCTION
Amenorrhoea is the absence of menstrual bleeding. It is a normal feature in prepubertal, pregnant and
postmenopausal women. Pregnancy is the first to be considered in females with amenorrhoea in

amenorrhoea.
Primary amenorrhoea is difficult to define as there is a great variation in the time of onset of
menstruation. However, it coincides well with the development of puberty or secondary sexual
characteristics. Undeveloped secondary sexual characteristics at a certain age indicates problem.

Model 1: Moon phases are caused by the shadow of the Earth on the Moon
1. If Moon phases are caused by the shadow of the Earth on the Moon, when there is a new Moon, it
should lie directly behind the Earth. The sunlight would be completely blocked off from the Moon
because of Earth s shadow.
2. If Moon phases are caused by the shadow of the Earth on the Moon, the Moon should be a full

High Risk Drivers
Teens are the number one cause of accidents in the United States, and the number of teen accidents is
still rising. Most of the teen accidents that have occurred have included them having several
passengers in the car with them. Teen drivers become more distracted when they have teenage peers in
the car with them, and this causes them to engage in more potentially risky behaviors. Many
researchers are debating if teens should even be allowed to drive with more than one passenger in the
car with them. Teens under the age of 19 are more likely to die in accidents than adults. A number of
studies have shown that passengers substantially increase the risk of crashes for young, novice drivers
(Goodwin). The increased risk results from distractions that young passengers create for drivers. The
presence of passengers may increase the likelihood of teenage drivers engaging in explicitly risky
behaviors. Four potentially risky driving behaviors were examined in the driving clips speeding faster

Fathers that the only way to truly insure their children s pairing is to stage an abduction of the Girl,
thereby allowing the Boy to save her and the two to live happily ever after. Enlisting the help of a
couple of ancient traveling players, the Fathers and El Gallo do indeed stage a rather miserable
kidnapping, which works perfectly in convincing the Boy and Girl they do truly love one another and
are destined to be together forever. All of this occurs before intermission, so what s left to tell in the
second act? Simply, how life sets in, how happily ever after seldom ends happily, and whether we like
it or not, how pain and heartbreak are an essential part of real love. It is really in the telling of the
second act that the story of The Fantasticks begins to soar. Because it is at this point we begin to see
the contrast between the young lover s idealized vision of love and the reality of trying to maintain
love in a world full of thieves, cheats, and charlatans. As the second act begins, we see the actors, the

Why Is Screen Time Bad
Screen Time is Bad Did you know that screen time is tied with health problems crazy right? Screen
time can also lead to higher levels of overweight and it can leads to shorter attention spans, mental
problems, or even sadness. Screen time is a distraction to school work and that can be bad for their
grades because at school they will be thinking about games and not be paying attention to the teacher
or they skip doing their homework which can help understand things they don t pick up from class.
Also it can introduce cyber bullying to kids which is bad and may make them depressed. But the good
thing about it is that you can call anyone in case of an emergency or you can call them to see where
they are. What I am stating in this paragraph

Computerizimg the Regitration Process at Universities
The University Student Registration System: a Case Study in Building a High Availability Distributed
Application Using General Purpose Components
M. C. Little, S. M. Wheater, D. B. Ingham, C. R. Snow, H. Whitfield and S. K. Shrivastava
Department of Computing Science, Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7RU, England.
Abstract
Prior to 1994, student registration at Newcastle University involved students being registered in a
single place, where they would present a form which had previously been filled in by the student and
their department. After registration this information was then transferred to a computerised format.
The University decided that the entire registration process was to be computerised for the Autumn of
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The high availability requirement implies that the computerised registration system must be able to
tolerate a reasonable number of machine and network related failures, and the consistency requirement
implies that the integrity of stored data (student records) must be maintained in the presence of
concurrent access from users and the types of failures just mentioned. It was expected that most
human errors, such as incorrectly inputting data, would be detected by the system as they occurred,
but some off line data manipulation would be necessary for errors which had not been foreseen.
Tolerance against catastrophic failures (such as complete electrical power failure, or a fire destroying
much of the University infrastructure) although desirable, was not considered within the remit of the
registration system. A solution that would require the University buying and installing specialist fault
tolerant computing systems, such as Tandem [1] or Stratus [2] was not considered economically
feasible. The only option worth exploring was exploiting the University s existing computing
resources. Like most other universities, Newcastle has hundreds of networked computers (Unix
workstations, PCs, Macs) scattered throughout the campus. A solution that could make use of these
resources and achieve availability by deploying software implemented fault tolerance techniques
certainly looked attractive.

Sally Hemings Jefferson Research Paper
Thomas Jefferson is a well known name in the United States history. Thomas Jefferson accomplished
many goals and ideas during his lifespan. He was a founding father, he wrote the Declaration of
Independence and serve as president for 2 terms from 1801 to 1809. During his first term as president,
there was speculation of him having a relationship with Sally Hemings a slave. As of today, it is
still unknown if it was true and if he was the father of 6. For two centuries there has been
disagreement with this controversy however, there has been DNA test on Thomas Jefferson s male
descendants and Sally Hemings relatives and the real answer is still undiscovered.
In September of 1802, a political journalist James T. Callender published an article. In which he
claimed Thomas Jefferson had a sexual relationship with Sally Hemmings a slave and even had
children. Being the president the article spread all around quickly. Sally Hemings was a slave at
Monticello. She was the half sister of Thomas Jefferson s wife Martha Jefferson, her father had a
relationship with Sally Hemings mother and had her. She was described by other slaves as light
skinned and could have passed as white. Hemings became Jefferson s property by an ... Show more

The DNA test did not exactly prove that Jefferson was the father of Hemings children, it only proved
that Heming s children father was a Jefferson. On the DNA test scientist noted that there is less than
one percent probability is due to chance. Also Sally Hemings was not freed after Jefferson s death.
Martha, Jefferson s daughter permitted Sally Hemings to leave in 1826 not long after Thomas
Jefferson s death. Thomas Jefferson wrote letters to the Secretary of the Navy but those letters were
gone, many indicated those letters told the truth about Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Panic Disorder
A mental illness is the same as a physical illness or disease; it follows a certain pattern, consists of a
multitude of symptoms and has the potential to be treated. The only difference is that a mental illness
affects the brain and the mind, and in today s society, has negative connotations associated with it.
Mental illness is just as biological as any physical disease, and can be just as serious and devastating
to the individual. One mental illness, in particular, is believed to be very common and easily
reversible: panic disorder. This illness is classified under the DSM 5 as an anxiety disorder, and it is
separate from panic attacks, which by themselves are not a disorder (American Psychiatric
Association, 2013). Panic attacks, are a symptom of panic disorder, and can be experienced by
anyone, both those with and without the disorder. Panic disorder is a mental disease characterized by
specific criteria, risk factors and etiologies particular to itself. Panic disorder is defined as, recurrent
unexpected panic attacks (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, p. 208). A panic attack is a
heightened sense of fear or discomfort that swells and reaches a climax; the entire event last around 10
minutes (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). An unexpected panic attack means that there is no
trigger that sets off the attack, they occurs seemingly random (American Psychiatric Association,
2013). During these attacks, in order for it to be considered panic disorder, at

Guernica Comparison
The painting Guernica, by Pablo Picasso, and the painting Executions of the Third of May, by
Francisco de Goya, were are both centered around the same general theme. There are several
similarities between the two pieces regarding content and meaning. In addition to the similarities of
these two pieces, there are also some differences regarding the artists, the creation process of the
pieces, and the technical aspects that make up the paintings. Similarities and differences can be
identified in these two pieces by analyzing the historical, political, social, cultural, religious, stylistic,
and technical aspects of both the form and content of the two works of art. In 1937, Pablo Picasso
created one of the most famous paintings of the 20th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
General Franco accepted aid from currently fascist governments, such as those of Hitler and
Mussolini, in exchange for the allowance of Hitler s Nazis to practice their aerial warfare against the
inhabitants of Guernica. On April 28, 1937, the German Nazis air bombed the town of Guernica,
which is the old Basque capital in Spain. As a result, the civilians of Guernica were left with a
destroyed town and the massacre of numerous inhabitants. At the time of this event, Picasso was
working in Paris and was commissioned by his government to paint a mural for the Spanish Pavilion
of the Paris World s Fair. Guernica was completed in a short time following the bombing of Guernica.
Picasso did not allow Guernica to be displayed in Spain while General Franco was in power, which
led to the portrayal of the painting at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. After General Franco
was stripped of his power, the painting made its way back to Spain to be displayed in Madrid, the
Spanish capital. The Basque Nationalist Movement, who favors the Basque territories cession from
Spain, claims that Guernica has been stolen from them. Similarly, Executions of the Third of May,
created by Francisco de

Let us begin with the definitions of insider trading: Insider trading is the trading of a public company s stock or other securities (such as bonds or stock options) by individuals with access to non public information about the company. In various countries, insider trading based on inside information is illegal. This is because it is seen as unfair to other investors who do not have access to the information. Wikipedia, 2014 Insider trading is defined as a malpractice wherein trade of a company s securities is undertaken by people who by virtue of their work have access to the otherwise non public information which can be crucial for making investment decisions. Political influences mainly affect Starbucks through government imposed minimum wage fluctuations. Their workers are trained to perform few tasks such as coffee making, food preparation and cashiering. With such few job functions, there is hardly a need for highly experienced or educated employees. This would allow Starbucks to pay their workers at minimum wage or just slightly higher, making Starbucks very sensitive towards increasing the minimum wage of their workers as that would increase labour costs. Other political influences that can affect Starbucks profits are regulatory and licensing restriction, government rent control, tax base determination and labor laws. The increasing demand of food and beverage services causes Starbucks rapid economic environment growth. Starbucks greatest concern is its relationship with its coffee bean producers. Nations producing coffee are influential on coffee purchasing companies. This is because coffee is the world s second largest traded supply, and prices of coffee beans are being subject to significant market volatility. Starbucks demands for premium green coffee beans, resulting in irregular pricing and are usually sold at negotiated prices. Starbucks greatest concern is that the producers would ally and artificially make the coffee prices inflate (Diedrich, 1999). Social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Diversity Within The Workplace Essay INTRODUCTION The need for one organization to outperform the others has given rise to a diverse workforce comprising of different individuals who significantly differ from one another. Diversity in the workplace has been defined as the differences and similarities among the employees that make up an organization in terms of age, cultural background, sex, religion (Anon., n.d.). The diversity in the workplace in terms of age is more often referred to as generational diversity. The desire by some to stay and work longer has led to the current workforce capturing many generations. With countries such as the US capturing as many as 5 distinct generations, others have been able to capture 4 and 3. The various generations segment the different age ranges into generations generally governed by different attitudes to work, preferences and value systems. The attitude, preference, and values held by any generation affect the way they approach their works. 21st century organizations tend to prefer managers who can deal with the different generations as they have different characteristics and present diverse challenges. The attitude of the various generations greatly differs in the workplace. • 10. Effects Of The New Deal On Women Females and the New Deal During the early half of the twentieth century, the United States went through a period of financial crisis which became known as the Great Depression. To get the country out of this depression, the federal government under the leadership of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt devised the New Deal. This program provided economic aid in the form of job creation and training, as well as financial aid by creating federal programs such as Social Security and by providing accountability for the national bank system. Many people were saved from starvation because of the opportunities they were given through the New Deal. This included new chances for women to move beyond their socially dictated roles and become individuals outside their married lives. Before the Great Depression, there were limited job opportunities for women in the United States. Women were expected to get married and when they did, to give up their jobs if they had them and to conform to the social norms of the proper domestic American wife. Husbands were the head of the household and thus the breadwinners. Originally when the New Deal departments were created the government reinforced these gender stereotypes (Ware 1987). If a woman was married, she was barred from participating in the New Deal, even if she was dealing with a husband who could not or would not work. The Industrial Revolution not only helped people move along in the late 1700s and early 1800s but also it has made the people what they are today. During the Industrial Revolution, the movement from an agrarian society to an industrial one reshaped the roles of families, widen the gap between classes, and led to the developments in communication, transportation, and other scientific fields that completely changed humanity. The Industrial Revolution started in the late 1700s and early 1800s which helped the transition from agrarian to one of industrial. Before the factories were made, the common folk would work on the farms that would make the food that they would need to survive, and they would also make their own clothes. All the clothes and materials that the people had before the industrial revolution they would make themselves because there was no mass production of items being made and the people who would sell the items never had enough in their inventory for everyone to buy. Factories started to arise making it easier to mass produce items that the people wanted, like cloths and eventually everyday materials. In The Tempest, Prospero knows what power he holds through the use of his books and spells, and ultimately uses these powers to restore order to the island. The drunken butler Stephano is countered in the film with the Tennessee bourbon sloshing space cook. The character of Caliban resonates in the film by use of the Id monster, and finally Ariel is engrossed through the character of Robby the Robot. A closer reading of some of the characters in FP will reveal parallels outlined by Campos. Campos shines light on the fact that [Prospero and Morbius] are figures that, isolated from the rest of mankind, have devoted their lives to the study of some books which have granted them an extraordinary, almost supernatural power (Campos, 285). The main connections between the two are their utilization of science and magic. As pointed out by Campos, the film gives a clear implication that science becomes the magic of the future (286). This statement seems to be truthful as in Shakespeare s time magic would be thought to be no different from the scientific breakthroughs of our time. For example a Shakespearean audience would marvel at the strides science has taken in the modern day, such as the utilization of electricity. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first theory is that we don t know the shape of space time. Space time could be flat and stretch on forever causing multiple universes. If this theory is true there would be universes that repeat themselves because atoms can only be put together so many ways (Howell). The second theory is eternal inflation. This states that some areas of space stop inflation, but some continue to get larger, so our universe could be a bubble sitting in a network of bubble universes. In this theory the laws of physics could be different for each universe because they aren t linked (Howell). The third theory is that multiple universes can follow the theory of quantum mechanics, and daughter universes. If you follow the laws of probability it suggests that for every outcome that could come from your decisions there would be a range of universes, each with a different outcome from your decisions (Howell). The UPQC helps to improve power quality at the point of installation on power distribution system or industrial power system. This paper deals with design of UPQC by considering a controller based on PQ theory. Reference signal generation for shunt active filter is done by using PQ theory while for series dual PQ theory is used [2], [3]. Reference signals are then applied to pulse generators. Pulse generation is carried out by using hysteresis band controller for each filter. The validation of proposed scheme is carried out by using Matlab/Simulink. Index Terms Unified Power Quality Conditioner, Active Power Filter, hysteresis control, voltage and current unbalance. I. • 23. The Effects Of Apocalyptic Discourse On Human Behaviour... How Environmental Apocalypse is represented in new narratives In the last decade, mass media have created some fatalist stories about climate change due hot summers and cold winters that never have been registered before. This strategy has the tendency to describe the effects of global warming on television, newspapers, cinema, even literature; which can be associated to an apocalypse discourse. But this apocalypse view embraces the role of awareness on human behaviour towards the environment. However, this apocalypse discourse sets a problem, because the excessive use of the media motivates confusion and misunderstandings by the audience. On the other hand, this apocalypse could be compared as a religious element to create fear beneath the general public, for the reason that humanity s sins have provoked climate change on Earth. Because of this, the present paper will assess the relevance of apocalyptic discourse as an ideology in the media, which is used as a precautionary principle to climate change. To aim this goal the idea will be discussed as it follows: what is the apocalypse; how this idea has been represented by contemporary narratives, and what strengths and weakness presents. With this structure, it is pretended to understand the apocalypse narrative on environmental issues, and if this narrative helps to motivate to act within the audience . Therefore, it will be helpful to start with Greg Garrard, who explains that apocalypse provides an emotionally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aristotle Appeal is a strategy for advertiser that is used frequently by advertiser as an effective way to sale and introduce their product to the consumer, such as: Logos, Pathos, and Ethos. For example, the ads for Cantus and Herbal Essences in Essences have used pathos successfully to attract their target audience which is African American women who do not have a lot of money to spend on unnecessary product. The advertisement for Cantus (Shea Butter) from the November 2015 issue of Essence shows an African American women smiling to the camera and showing her fluffy hair. • 26. Characteristics Of The Biochar Derived From Pine Fruit... Characteristics of the biochar The characteristics of the biochar derived from pine fruit residue are shown in Table 1. The adsorptive properties of sorbent are greatly dependent on their particle size and distribution throughout the mass. Effective size and uniformity coefficient are the two important parameters for treatment of contaminated water using adsorbent as filtering media in column operation where control of particle size is critical. The effective size corresponds to the sieve size through which 10% of the material will pass, and the uniformity coefficient is the ratio of the sieve size that will just pass 60% of the material to the effective size. Generally, the rate of adsorption get enhanced as the particle size decreases due availability of increased surface area. Therefore, the adsorbent with smaller effective sizes provide better adsorption capacity due to better the access to the surface area and faster the rate of adsorption. The typical range of effective size and uniformity coefficient for activated carbon as adsorbent media practiced satisfactory is D10 = 0.15 0.35 mm and Cu = 2 3 respectively. In our case, Table 1 shows that the biochar prepared have an effective size of 0.055 mm and uniformity coefficient 2.87. The more uniform adsorbent media is expected to provide the slower head loss buildup and therefore, careful consideration of particle sized distribution is must for dynamic column design. This essay focuses on four main sociological concepts proposed by the functionalist Emile Durkheim; the division of labour; mechanical and organic solidarity; anomie and suicide, and examines their relevance in contemporary society. Along with Marx and Weber, Durkheim is considered one of the founding members of modern sociology. He is also credited with making sociology a science through his application of scientific and empirical research. Durkheim believed that sociology should be seen as a science separate from other sciences such as psychology, by studying social facts objectively as things. (McDonald, 2009) Organic solidarity arose as a result of the industrial revolution when society became more multifaceted and new ways of working emerged. This saw a decline in the collective conscience regarding shared morals and beliefs as society began to progress and expand. The division of labour that arises as a result of organic solidarity is complex and varied, resulting in people becoming more individualistic and yet also interdependent. Society s social bonds now centred around the fact that people were dependant on each other for the good and services required in their day to day lives. (McDonald, 2009) As organic solidarity is typical of complex, industrialised societies, Durkheim s theory is very applicable to modern life and the first world in particular. Individuality is a major feature of people living in the western world today e.g. the USA, UK, and Ireland. This is evident in our political and social thinking. Much emphasis is placed on personal rights and the belief that nothing is more important than us. (Hughes et al, 1995) Meanwhile we are not self sufficient; we rely heavily on the expertise of thousands globally to live our daily lives e.g. the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the cars we drive etc. (Macionis and Plummer, 2005) A huge increase in individualism came about because of organic solidarity resulting in a breakdown of moral and ethical boundaries ... The dead orca contained 1000 parts per million (ppm) PCBs, an estimated six times more than the average Pacific Northwest orca (1). PCBs, or polychlorinated biphenyls, are a type of manufactured chemical. Their use was predominantly within electrical equipment, acting as coolants or lubricants, along with being used in paints, cement, or other common material (2). Such chemicals are a large issue in the PNW, despite being banned decades ago. Today, killer whales are in danger of becoming extinct due to pollution of substances like PCBs. Due to biomagnification, chemicals like those mentioned only magnify in populations higher on the food chain. How does this effect the orca population? Pollution at these levels are creating various health issues in the large mammals and decreasing their numbers rapidly. The U.S. steel industry continues to face formidable competition globally, especially from a costing, supply chain, and procurement perspective. The intensity of this competition is forcing many steel producers to look for greater efficiencies form their own operations. One of the most effective continues to be the streamlining how product, project, and process information to create a unified system of record which can be used for knowledge management (Armstrong, 2008). From an analysis of the readings in Using GIS Technology for Document and Asset Management (Armstrong, 2008) it is apparent that visual representation of information and knowledge taxonomies across the various locations of a U.S. Steel manufacturing plant are invaluable in increasing efficiency and performance. These manufacturing centers often rely on a very broad set of content based sources, information and knowledge all used for keeping each production machine running efficiently while also ensuring that the steel mill workers have the information they need to do their jobs. After registration this information was then transferred to a computerised format. The University decided that the entire registration process was to be computerised for the Autumn of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The high availability requirement implies that the computerised registration system must be able to tolerate a reasonable number of machine and network related failures, and the consistency requirement implies that the integrity of stored data (student records) must be maintained in the presence of concurrent access from users and the types of failures just mentioned. It was expected that most human errors, such as incorrectly inputting data, would be detected by the system as they occurred, but some off line data manipulation would be necessary for errors which had not been foreseen. Tolerance against catastrophic failures (such as complete electrical power failure, or a fire destroying much of the University infrastructure) although desirable, was not considered within the remit of the registration system. A solution that would require the University buying and installing specialist fault tolerant computing systems, such as Tandem [1] or Stratus [2] was not considered economically feasible. The only option worth exploring was exploiting the University s existing computing resources. Like most other universities, Newcastle has hundreds of networked computers (Unix workstations, PCs, Macs) scattered throughout the campus. A solution that could make use of these resources and achieve availability by deploying software implemented fault tolerance techniques certainly looked attractive. ... The DNA test did not exactly prove that Jefferson was the father of Hemings children, it only proved that Heming s children father was a Jefferson. On the DNA test scientist noted that there is less than one percent probability is due to chance. Also Sally Hemings was not freed after Jefferson s death. Martha, Jefferson s daughter permitted Sally Hemings to leave in 1826 not long after Thomas Jefferson s death. Thomas Jefferson wrote letters to the Secretary of the Navy but those letters were gone, many indicated those letters told the truth about Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings ... • 46. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Panic Disorder A mental illness is the same as a physical illness or disease; it follows a certain pattern, consists of a multitude of symptoms and has the potential to be treated. The only difference is that a mental illness affects the brain and the mind, and in today s society, has negative connotations associated with it. Mental illness is just as biological as any physical disease, and can be just as serious and devastating to the individual. One mental illness, in particular, is believed to be very common and easily reversible: panic disorder. This illness is classified under the DSM 5 as an anxiety disorder, and it is separate from panic attacks, which by themselves are not a disorder (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Panic attacks, are a symptom of panic disorder, and can be experienced by anyone, both those with and without the disorder. Panic disorder is a mental disease characterized by specific criteria, risk factors and etiologies particular to itself. Panic disorder is defined as, recurrent unexpected panic attacks (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, p. 208). A panic attack is a heightened sense of fear or discomfort that swells and reaches a climax; the entire event last around 10 minutes (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). An unexpected panic attack means that there is no trigger that sets off the attack, they occurs seemingly random (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). During these attacks, in order for it to be considered panic disorder, at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

General Franco accepted aid from currently fascist governments, such as those of Hitler and Mussolini, in exchange for the allowance of Hitler s Nazis to practice their aerial warfare against the inhabitants of Guernica. On April 28, 1937, the German Nazis air bombed the town of Guernica, which is the old Basque capital in Spain. As a result, the civilians of Guernica were left with a destroyed town and the massacre of numerous inhabitants. At the time of this event, Picasso was working in Paris and was commissioned by his government to paint a mural for the Spanish Pavilion of the Paris World s Fair. Guernica was completed in a short time following the bombing of Guernica. Picasso did not allow Guernica to be displayed in Spain while General Franco was in power, which led to the portrayal of the painting at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. After General Franco was stripped of his power, the painting made its way back to Spain to be displayed in Madrid, the Spanish capital. The Basque Nationalist Movement, who favors the Basque territories cession from Spain, claims that Guernica has been stolen from them.
