Abstract
A replication of Task Switching Monsell 2003 experiment was done, which predicts a time cost when
switching tasks. 18 participants had to complete 100 randomized trials, switching between task repeat
and task switching trials. Reaction Times (RT) were recorded and reflected by experimenters, to
determine that there is a time cost involved when switching tasks as opposed to repeating the same
task.

When switching between tasks our brain goes between two different programs one for example for
counting and one for reading, therefore costing us time to switch between these two tasks. In this
experiment we tried to replicate the Monsell 2003 Task Switching experiment. 18 Participants took a
brief task switching test via program Revolution Maker . Each trial was randomly assigned. The
participants were presented with numbers one through nine and on each trial had to react to the
number, to identify either its odd or even or if the magnitude was either less than 5 or more than 5. We
hypothesis that when individuals are engaged in a cognitive task there is a time cost that occurs when
asked to switch between tasks as opposed to repeating tasks.
Methods
Participants:
18 undergraduate students from Brooklyn College participated in this study.
Materials:
A task switching experiment designed on the computer program Revolution Maker
Procedure:
Participants were led to an isolated lab room were they participated in a task switching experiment.

They were involved in 2 tasks a magnitude test and an odd even task. There was 100 randomly

Remember a song that came out about 10 years ago, and maybe you haven t heard it in a while, but as
soon as it comes on the radio, you recall all the words and are able to sing along? How about retaking
a quiz from last spring, would you be able to just recall the information spoken to you from the lecture
pertaining to the quiz content? The second task doesn t seem as easy, so perhaps the tune of a song
triggers something in the brain that makes memorization more simple than just hearing spoken words.

It is also expected that individuals in a public location will recall less words than individuals in a
private location. Obtaining data that supports the hypotheses would indicate that music might be a
factor in enhancing memorization and being able to retain information more successfully, along with
being a private location.
The first article used for research in this study is titled, Memory for Music: Effect of Melody on
Recall of Text. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of recalling text when it is heard
as a song, rather than just spoken. The idea behind this comes from the role in memory
representations. It was hypothesized that, the tune will provoke learning and recall of the text through
rhyme and rhythm (Wallace, 1994, p. 1472). There was a sung version of two songs and a spoken
version of the songs recorded on a tape. There were 64 undergraduate participants for the study.
Participants listened to three verses from the recorded songs and were then asked to write down the
words they could remember, in a short time span between hearing the verses the first and fifth time.
Participants heard a song five times and were asked to write down what they had retained after
specific trials. It was found that participants that heard the song being sung were able to recall more
words than the participants who listened to the words of the song, but in spoken form. Even with

Comparison Between Lift And Stack
At first glance, these three photographs are easily understood, it seems to be a village rebuilding after
a natural disaster or possibly just a normal day of work. However, there is so much more to see. For
example, the five men in red in the photograph on the far left Lift and Stack, are dressed quite
differently from the people around them. Which means to me that they came to help from either a
nearby village or, more likely in my opinion, a monastery from their attire and shaved heads. These
men seem to be loading firewood into the bed of a truck to bring to less fortunate areas, with the help
of village natives. The village in the background seems to be in better shape than the other two
photographs, which makes it even more likely that they are moving the firewood to those who are in
need.

through all of this these two boys play. Maybe they were working and were stopped for this
photograph or maybe they had just finished their work for the day and decided to follow the

McQueen, describes two lovers that are located on opposite sides of the world. McQueen uses the title
to emphasize the conflicts. The speaker s emotions are expressed through two main themes; love and
distance. Imagery and diction maximize the emotions associated with these themes. Additionally, she
uses many literary devices throughout the poem for effect. From the onset, the title Otherwise is vital
to the poem foreshadowing conflict, contrast and turmoil. The word sets the scene for two different

Taking a Look at Autobiographical Images
Viewing autobiographical images is often a relational experience. Within contemporary art,
autobiographical work opens up the possibility of creating new kinds of relationships between people
of different backgrounds. It can operate both as a representation transference of lived experience and
as an apparatus for experiential, relational viewing. When viewers encounter work that deals with the
autobiography of the artist, they engage cognitive and affective processes that often involve
identification and memory. In this practice of relational viewing, the artist s work functions as a
powerful catalyst for memory, whereby viewers draw upon their own life stories to connect with the
work. Consequently, the viewer not only perceives the image in the present, but projects it back the
artist s and their memory, body and being. Contemporary artists Rebecca Belmore and Nan Goldin
explore their own memories and past experience through their portrayal of the body. Their use of body
language is quite deliberate at creating subtle tension between the viewer and the work that evokes
this aforementioned relational viewing. Belomore s Firnge (2007/08) a photographic transparency in a
light box draws on not only the memories of her past, but the aboriginal culture and people she
attempts to represent. Goldin also represents a wider group then herself, the New York Bohemians.

Putnam, Ellis and Rothbart (2001), individual differences in personality factors as determined by the
Big Five Factor Model are present and continue to persist from very young ages. This suggests that
