Berserk:
• The story follows a mysterious and
hardened warrior named Guts, who is
searching for information on a group of
demonic all-powerful beings known as
the God Hand.
• The comic in generally does not have
colour as it is cheap however it gives
the comic a very dark tone which it
should be as the story has violent gory
scenes.
• I like the theme and genre of the comic
as it can relate to mine because it is a
fantasy adventure and the story
includes creatures like goblins, orcs and
demons.
Existing Product
Spider-man
• Fictional character biography.
The spider bite that gave Peter
Parker his powers. high school
student Peter Parker is a science-
whiz orphan living with his Uncle
Ben and Aunt May.
• The comic is by marvel and they
are a huge comic company.
Spiderman is also a popular
comic. It has brightly coloured art
and mixtures of art styles.
• i use this as inspiration as its
about a young character with
powers becoming a hero. The art
style is also very inspirational for
my product.
Existing Product
Game of Thrones
• This comic is based of the books “a
song of fire and ice” which is very
popular. The story takes place in
westeros, a fantasy place filled with
drama between houses which
causes war and violence.
• The comic has a great lore story
which foreshadows a lot. The GOT
world includes fantasy creatures
and medieval inspired location,
props and landscapes.
• This comic is very similar and
inspiration because of the dark
tone in style and story as it includes
a gore, violence and strong
language.
Existing Product
Thor
• Odin wooed Gaea, the earth goddess, and
from their union Thor was born in a small
cave in Norway on Earth. Odin took him
to be raised in Asgard by his wife, Frigga.
The young Thor grew up alongside his
adopted brother Loki, the trickster, who
was always jealous of his more favored
sibling.
• the Thor story is very different to others
as it takes place in the modern era
however it doesn't’t take place on earth
so they wear old Norse clothing. He also
fights alongside with other marvel heroes.
• This can be similar to my project as the
vibrant colours are very realistic and eye
catching as the magic. The colours are
also used whenever he uses his thunder
giving it powerful look
Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
- They all has have a similar colour scheme accept for berserk as they don’t use
colour at all. The colouring are computer work as they are very vibrant and
bright which gives a positive outcome to the story.
- They all have big titles which gives a great look overall as it tells u what the
comic is called in stylish way
- They are all different in terms of restriction in ASA codes with violence, gore
and strong language as some are for children and some are for adults. This can
effect the story in a positive or negative way.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
- I would like to add good use of colours as it can bring alive my story however it
is expensive and difficult to master.
- I want my story to be a dark fantasy which would include violent scenes.
- The tone would be dark which is very similar to berserk.
Questionnaire Analysis
https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/
5FMP5Y5
Audience research
• Observation: it shows that more males have filled my questionnaire which would
cause uneven answers.
• What this says about my audience:most boys or men are into comics. I
think that this is because most protagonists are men in comics such as superhero's.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I think my project will
appear to men because my protagonist will be male which will be relatable to them
Audience research
• Observation: the results show that there are mostly a younger audience filling my
questionnaire.
• What this says about my audience: this shows that younger people are into comics
because comics are mostly directed to a younger audience as they are fictional stories.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: my product will defiantly be towards a
younger audience from 14-20 as my graphic novel will have a small amount of gore and harsh
language however It will include some as it makes it more realistic and it makes scenes feel
more alive.
Audience research
• Observation: I chose my three favourite genres to go on my questionnaire and as you
can see fantasy and sci-fi are at a ti.
• What this says about my audience: this shows that my audience would rather
have sci-fi and fantasy which I understand as western is very old fashioned.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: my graphic novel will be both
fantasy and sci-fi however I will be more leaning towards fantasy as it can be easier. Sci-
fi ide have to create new concepts and designs which would take time.
Audience research
• Observation: the results show that most audiences want an even amount of key characters.
• What this says about my audience: this shows that they don’t want too many nor too
less as it can be reckless. Having three is nice as it can be easy to focus on.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: for my product I will be adding
either two or three characters to focus on and then add other character which are not too
important giving an organised compelling story. Having too many can be hard ass each character
has to have their own unique personality and having only one can be boring.
Audience research
• Observation: the results show the audience want 20 pages worth of pages and some want
30.
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that my audience want good
amount of pages which aren’t too much or too less.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: for my project I will try make a
maximum of 20 however it depends on my story I create as I could make more. Making too less is
too boring and making too much ca be clumsy so ill stick in between 20-30.
Audience research
• Observation: the results show that people want more strong scenes in a graphic novel
and less people don’t want that.
• What this says about my audience: this states that my audience can handle
these kind of graphic scenes. I think this because many people can take offence to these
kinds of scenes.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will add some violent
scenes as they are realistic and more eye catching to my audience. Gore and strong language
can develop characters very well and makes scenes feel more alive.
Audience research
• Observation: these results have a mixture of choices as many people have chosen evil and
smart and some have chosen strong.
• What this says about my audience: I think this shows my audience want something
different in a comic and that they want a unique protagonist.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: my protagonist will have a mix
amount of personalities and aspects. He will be more heroic but can make evil choices and his key
aspects would be his intellect and strength in combat.
Audience research
• Observation: the results show all the choices are at a dark toned comic.
• What this says about my audience: this shows that my audience would
like a serious dark toned comic as it can be more interesting and less positive.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: i will make my
comic mostly dark and sinister however to not make it boring I will make sure to add
light comedic scenes.
Audience research
• Observation: the results show that most people would rather have a characters age to be between
11-30.
• What this says about my audience: this means that my audience want a young character. I
think this because most audiences that read comics are young and they can relate to young character.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: i will be creating a very young
character in his teen years and then my audience can see a young character develop as he grows older.
Audience research
• Observation: the results show even amount of people have chosen marvel and dc which
are both American originated comic companies.
• What this says about my audience: i think this shows that more audiences can
relate to those certain companies which are very popular.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: my product will be more
similar to those companies with in the style and art and I will take inspiration to those
comics.
Interviews
Interview 1
• Do you read comics? If so what comics do u read and why?
- Batman/the question comics because I like the detective side of
comics.
• What is your ideal comic book protagonist and why?
- A crazed psychopath that has a high skill of intellect that kills and causes chaos
for the sake of it
• what are your favourite genres and why?
- Murder mystery because it gets the audience thinking.
• Do you think strong language, gore and nudity should be aloud in
a graphic novel? Explain why?
- I don’t mind. It can and cant, as far as there's not too much of it because
otherwise it can ruin the plot.
• How many pages do you think a comic should have and why?
- About 20-30 pages because it gives time for the story to develop and contain
more things to explore different ideas.
Interview 1
• Observation: it shows that the answers are more
detective mystery related because all the answers can fit in
that type of genre.
• What this says about my audience: this shows
that many people like a mystery as they can solve the mystery
for themselves. They can also be very thrilling.
• How will your product appeal to this
audience: I will try involve many mysterious aspects in my
project for the protagonist to solve as they can be very
compelling and it can get the audience to think.
Interview 2
• Do you read comics? If so what comics do u read and why?
- I don’t read comics, but if I did I'd read marvel because they are better.
• What is your ideal comic book protagonist and why?
- My ideal comic protagonist would be someone who is an underdog, not extremely
strong.
• what are your favourite genres and why?
- My favourite genre is fantasy because it really takes you on an amazing journey.
• Do you think strong language, gore and nudity should be
aloud in a graphic novel? Explain why?
- I think those things should all be allowed because It can show the realism of the
world that the characters live in and immerses you more.
• How many pages do you think a comic should have and
why?
- I don’t think comics should have a certain amount of pages, it depends on how the
maker of the comic writes and want to do his work.
Interview 2
• Observation: this shows an audience which doesn’t read
comics however they are very interested in story telling
• What this says about my audience: this kind of
audience are mainly into adventures and character
development in a harsh world such as a dark fantasy because I
see that the answers are more into making a realistic world
within a fantasy.
• How will your product appeal to this
audience: I am very agreeable to this kind of audience and
I will try and create a dark world immersive for the audience
by making compelling character development.
Audience Profile
Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience
Age Range 15-30
• My protagonists are going to be teenagers which
would be relatable to a younger audience.
• I will add some dark and strong scenes to my
comic so that it will be realistic and appealing for
the older generation.
Gender Male/female
• I will be having two protagonists for my story one
boy and one girl which can cause a relatable and
an immersive story.
• Both the characters will be unique to their gender
which will be a good character development.
Psychographic
People who like
dark fantasy and
can handle adult
content.
• My project will include dark scenes to show
realism in my story. It will make the audience feel
more immersed and tense for the characters
within the story.
Social Status
Lower/
middle/higher
• My project will be towards all social statuses as
my story will include all the classes in the middle
ages.
Research Evaluation
Research Evaluation
• Give an overview of how you conducted your research.
Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method
– Product Research
• The product research are very useful as you can gain inspiration from other novels
such as art style and story. This can also help with the ASA codes making sure your
products are not copying other products.
– Questionnaires
• The questioners are very useful as it allows you to see an audiences perspective
and it gives you a wide range of choices of story and style to make my product.
– Interviews
- The interviews can be useless as it is very similar to the questionnaires as the
audiences answers are very similar however it is nice to interview someone face to face and
the amount of detail their answers are. It gives us much more detail on how my product
should be.
Research Evaluation
– What sort of a response did you get?
I got many responses on various types of audiences. Some have opposite ideas to
others and some have exactly the same ideas. This shows that my project can be
as creative as possible as long as it is unique and eye catching.
– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage
I think my survey was good enough for me to grab ideas for my final project
however I could have made my questions more detailed for the audience to
understand for them to give a full hones answer. I think I should improve on
giving more options on my questionnaire for my audience to answer with much
detail as possible.

2. research

  • 2. Existing Product Berserk: • The story follows a mysterious and hardened warrior named Guts, who is searching for information on a group of demonic all-powerful beings known as the God Hand. • The comic in generally does not have colour as it is cheap however it gives the comic a very dark tone which it should be as the story has violent gory scenes. • I like the theme and genre of the comic as it can relate to mine because it is a fantasy adventure and the story includes creatures like goblins, orcs and demons.
  • 3. Existing Product Spider-man • Fictional character biography. The spider bite that gave Peter Parker his powers. high school student Peter Parker is a science- whiz orphan living with his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. • The comic is by marvel and they are a huge comic company. Spiderman is also a popular comic. It has brightly coloured art and mixtures of art styles. • i use this as inspiration as its about a young character with powers becoming a hero. The art style is also very inspirational for my product.
  • 4. Existing Product Game of Thrones • This comic is based of the books “a song of fire and ice” which is very popular. The story takes place in westeros, a fantasy place filled with drama between houses which causes war and violence. • The comic has a great lore story which foreshadows a lot. The GOT world includes fantasy creatures and medieval inspired location, props and landscapes. • This comic is very similar and inspiration because of the dark tone in style and story as it includes a gore, violence and strong language.
  • 5. Existing Product Thor • Odin wooed Gaea, the earth goddess, and from their union Thor was born in a small cave in Norway on Earth. Odin took him to be raised in Asgard by his wife, Frigga. The young Thor grew up alongside his adopted brother Loki, the trickster, who was always jealous of his more favored sibling. • the Thor story is very different to others as it takes place in the modern era however it doesn't’t take place on earth so they wear old Norse clothing. He also fights alongside with other marvel heroes. • This can be similar to my project as the vibrant colours are very realistic and eye catching as the magic. The colours are also used whenever he uses his thunder giving it powerful look
  • 6. Research Analysis • What common features do the researched products have? - They all has have a similar colour scheme accept for berserk as they don’t use colour at all. The colouring are computer work as they are very vibrant and bright which gives a positive outcome to the story. - They all have big titles which gives a great look overall as it tells u what the comic is called in stylish way - They are all different in terms of restriction in ASA codes with violence, gore and strong language as some are for children and some are for adults. This can effect the story in a positive or negative way. • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? - I would like to add good use of colours as it can bring alive my story however it is expensive and difficult to master. - I want my story to be a dark fantasy which would include violent scenes. - The tone would be dark which is very similar to berserk.
  • 8. Audience research • Observation: it shows that more males have filled my questionnaire which would cause uneven answers. • What this says about my audience:most boys or men are into comics. I think that this is because most protagonists are men in comics such as superhero's. • How will your product appeal to this audience: I think my project will appear to men because my protagonist will be male which will be relatable to them
  • 9. Audience research • Observation: the results show that there are mostly a younger audience filling my questionnaire. • What this says about my audience: this shows that younger people are into comics because comics are mostly directed to a younger audience as they are fictional stories. • How will your product appeal to this audience: my product will defiantly be towards a younger audience from 14-20 as my graphic novel will have a small amount of gore and harsh language however It will include some as it makes it more realistic and it makes scenes feel more alive.
  • 10. Audience research • Observation: I chose my three favourite genres to go on my questionnaire and as you can see fantasy and sci-fi are at a ti. • What this says about my audience: this shows that my audience would rather have sci-fi and fantasy which I understand as western is very old fashioned. • How will your product appeal to this audience: my graphic novel will be both fantasy and sci-fi however I will be more leaning towards fantasy as it can be easier. Sci- fi ide have to create new concepts and designs which would take time.
  • 11. Audience research • Observation: the results show that most audiences want an even amount of key characters. • What this says about my audience: this shows that they don’t want too many nor too less as it can be reckless. Having three is nice as it can be easy to focus on. • How will your product appeal to this audience: for my product I will be adding either two or three characters to focus on and then add other character which are not too important giving an organised compelling story. Having too many can be hard ass each character has to have their own unique personality and having only one can be boring.
  • 12. Audience research • Observation: the results show the audience want 20 pages worth of pages and some want 30. • What this says about my audience: this tells me that my audience want good amount of pages which aren’t too much or too less. • How will your product appeal to this audience: for my project I will try make a maximum of 20 however it depends on my story I create as I could make more. Making too less is too boring and making too much ca be clumsy so ill stick in between 20-30.
  • 13. Audience research • Observation: the results show that people want more strong scenes in a graphic novel and less people don’t want that. • What this says about my audience: this states that my audience can handle these kind of graphic scenes. I think this because many people can take offence to these kinds of scenes. • How will your product appeal to this audience: I will add some violent scenes as they are realistic and more eye catching to my audience. Gore and strong language can develop characters very well and makes scenes feel more alive.
  • 14. Audience research • Observation: these results have a mixture of choices as many people have chosen evil and smart and some have chosen strong. • What this says about my audience: I think this shows my audience want something different in a comic and that they want a unique protagonist. • How will your product appeal to this audience: my protagonist will have a mix amount of personalities and aspects. He will be more heroic but can make evil choices and his key aspects would be his intellect and strength in combat.
  • 15. Audience research • Observation: the results show all the choices are at a dark toned comic. • What this says about my audience: this shows that my audience would like a serious dark toned comic as it can be more interesting and less positive. • How will your product appeal to this audience: i will make my comic mostly dark and sinister however to not make it boring I will make sure to add light comedic scenes.
  • 16. Audience research • Observation: the results show that most people would rather have a characters age to be between 11-30. • What this says about my audience: this means that my audience want a young character. I think this because most audiences that read comics are young and they can relate to young character. • How will your product appeal to this audience: i will be creating a very young character in his teen years and then my audience can see a young character develop as he grows older.
  • 17. Audience research • Observation: the results show even amount of people have chosen marvel and dc which are both American originated comic companies. • What this says about my audience: i think this shows that more audiences can relate to those certain companies which are very popular. • How will your product appeal to this audience: my product will be more similar to those companies with in the style and art and I will take inspiration to those comics.

If so what comics do u read and why? - Batman/the question comics because I like the detective side of comics. • What is your ideal comic book protagonist and why? - A crazed psychopath that has a high skill of intellect that kills and causes chaos for the sake of it • what are your favourite genres and why? - Murder mystery because it gets the audience thinking. • Do you think strong language, gore and nudity should be aloud in a graphic novel? Explain why? - I don’t mind. It can and cant, as far as there's not too much of it because otherwise it can ruin the plot. • How many pages do you think a comic should have and why? - About 20-30 pages because it gives time for the story to develop and contain more things to explore different ideas.
  • 20. Interview 1 • Observation: it shows that the answers are more detective mystery related because all the answers can fit in that type of genre. • What this says about my audience: this shows that many people like a mystery as they can solve the mystery for themselves. • 23. Audience Profile Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience Age Range 15-30 • My protagonists are going to be teenagers which would be relatable to a younger audience. • I will add some dark and strong scenes to my comic so that it will be realistic and appealing for the older generation. Gender Male/female • I will be having two protagonists for my story one boy and one girl which can cause a relatable and an immersive story. • Both the characters will be unique to their gender which will be a good character development. Psychographic People who like dark fantasy and can handle adult content. • My project will include dark scenes to show realism in my story. It will make the audience feel more immersed and tense for the characters within the story. Social Status Lower/ middle/higher • My project will be towards all social statuses as my story will include all the classes in the middle ages.
  • 25. Research Evaluation • Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method – Product Research • The product research are very useful as you can gain inspiration from other novels such as art style and story. This can also help with the ASA codes making sure your products are not copying other products. – Questionnaires • The questioners are very useful as it allows you to see an audiences perspective and it gives you a wide range of choices of story and style to make my product. – Interviews - The interviews can be useless as it is very similar to the questionnaires as the audiences answers are very similar however it is nice to interview someone face to face and the amount of detail their answers are. It gives us much more detail on how my product should be.
  • 26. Research Evaluation – What sort of a response did you get? I got many responses on various types of audiences. Some have opposite ideas to others and some have exactly the same ideas. This shows that my project can be as creative as possible as long as it is unique and eye catching. – How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage I think my survey was good enough for me to grab ideas for my final project however I could have made my questions more detailed for the audience to understand for them to give a full hones answer. I think I should improve on giving more options on my questionnaire for my audience to answer with much detail as possible.
