Analysis Of The Prologue By Anne Bradstreet
Tierra Nick
Professor Parker
ENG 202 01
5 October 2017
The Prologue By Anne Bradstreet
Anne Bradstreet s poem, The Prologue , is about the struggle of women in a Puritan Society. In
the Puritan Society, women are held to a certain standard. Women were not able to speak their
mind, openly show they were educated, or express themselves freely, because it was looked down
on. The Prologue , is titled to mark the beginning of her work. In this poem, Bradstreet
acknowledges her role as a woman in a Puritan society, but also makes a brave attempt to achieve
freedom from the Puritan Society. Bradstreet is on a mission to prove to the Puritan society that
women are worthy enough to do what men do. Bradstreet fights for feminism. Bradstreet begins her
poem by acknowledging those superior to her: To sing of wars, of captains, and of kings
Of cities founded, commonwealths begun For my mean pen are too superior things
Or how they all, or each their dates have run
Let poets and historians set these forth
My obscure lines shall not so dim their worth
(Bradstreet 1 6) In lines 1 6, she explains that she is aware of those who contributed to society,
because they have accomplished great things, things that she cannot take away from them. She
states she will not discuss them because her mean pen are too superior things (Bradstreet 3).
Bradstreet uses too to reference her work as being also superior. She wishes to leave it to them to
talk about history without criticizing their worth and the same should be done for her. She adds the
word obscure (Bradstreet 6), to acknowledge her lines are hidden using a form of symbolism.
Symbolizing that most women are hiding their truths. Her point goes into further detail in stanza 2.
Bradstreet begins stanza 2, But when my wond ring eyes and envious heart/Great Bartas sugared
lines do but read o er (Bradstreet 7 8). Bradstreet in some way degrades her poetry, just like the
Puritan society would do. She talks about another poet Barta. When she reads his poems they
seem so great and she envy s him. She also refers to Bartas work as sugared lines referring to his
poetry as pleasurable to read. She uses Barta (a male figure), to further clarify how she will not

Under the Black Flag
Cordingly, David. Under The Black Flag: The Romance And The Reality Of Life Among The
Pirates. Harcourt, Inc.: Orlando, FL, 1997.
Part 1: Summary The point of this book was to put aside the myths about pirates and replace
them with facts. There are many fictional myths about pirates and their lives on the sea. Many
books and movies have built pirates up to be romantical heroes instead of the ruthless savages
they were, so this book focuses on separating fact from fiction about life as a pirate. Many plays
and books such as Peter Pan, Treasure Island, and many others have used pirates as characters for
many years. Many of us grew up watching pirates on television, but most of the time in pursuit of
entertainment the truth is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although some pirates were not as barbaric as others, they were all criminals who broke the law.
Also included in this book is what happened to pirates when they were caught by the government. If
convicted of piracy it often meant a sure death by hanging. Many times the bodies of pirates were
hung over harbors and around ports as a warning of the consequences of being a pirate. The
government hoped that these drastic measures would help quell the raids of pirates. So this book
lets us know that even though pirates have a romanticized appearance, in all reality they were
criminals who had their own way of life.
Part 2: Personal Analysis This book is awesome. I had the mot fun reading it than I ve had in
awhile. This book was very interesting, and it made learning about pirates fun rather than just
dumping a lot of facts on you. It helps the public experience the mentality of the pirate. Even
though pirates were usually oppressed seamen who turned to piracy, they were still ruthless,
stone cold criminals. This book uses a lot of literature and fabricated stories, but the reason for
this is because there is not a lot of documentation of pirates. Some facts have been changed
around while the stories were being retold, and this is the main point of the book; to get back to
the root of who pirates really were. One example of pirate mentality is when Captain Cary s ship
was attacked by

The Excavation and Discovery of Tutankhamun s Tomb Essay
The excavation and discovery of Tutankhamun s tomb was as a result of the efforts of the
Archaeologist Howard Carter and his team. Carter s discovery of the tomb came by finding steps to
the burial near the entrance to the tomb Ramses VI. The subsequent excavated of the site by Carter
and his team revealed the greatest ever treasure found from an Egyptian tomb and showed the
existence of Tutankhamun. Carter s methodology for the excavation was that of maintaining records
for each artefact and that every artefact that was brought out of the tomb was preserved

Essay about Canadian Human Rights
Human Rights Essay
Many people and nations around the world are deprived of human rights. The government in the
countries or nations usually can not help the people being deprived. Either because the government
is too poor to, it is not one of the things the government is looking into, or the government does not
know or care. Because of this certain people, or even whole populations are denied human rights
and their living conditions and way of life are usually not on the positive side of things. There are
many wealthier countries trying to help but sometimes that is not enough. To what extent should
Canada have a role in working to increase human rights protection in other nations? ... Show more

Not even a year later nearly every right of the Jewish people was eliminated, and hundreds of
thousands of Jewish people were killed or tortured.
Thankfully, the Jewish people and the country of Germany were liberated, and most rights were

Nations was created, including Canada, England, France and others, it was created to make and
maintain human rights throughout the world. Sometimes the only thing that needs fixing is a new
government.
But war is not needed to improve and increase human rights in other nations. Even with out war
there are still nations and people without human rights; it just needs to be noticed.
There are many charities to help towards human rights that Canada contributes to greatly. Including
UNICEF Canada, Salvation Army Canada and Red Cross. These charities focus on mainly living
rights. The charities contribute mainly food, clothing and medicine. Those are only two given
rights. Although it is help for people to live their lives, it does not give them more rights, it is not a
solution to increase their human rights and protect them.
Lately Canada has done a lot with the United Nations in protecting human rights, including
communicating with countries and organizations to increase the rights of women and children.
There have been many improvements to their rights and conditions; political prisoners have been

Jim Sinegal
In 1983, Jim Sinegal s idea for a new business was a place where there were no signs identifying
isles, no advertising, no way for customers to bag their purchases, and before customers would
be allowed to shop, they had to pay an annual fee. That business is Costco and during Jim s 30
years as founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), he grew that business into the fourth largest
retailer in the country. Looking back on the legacy Jim left behind when he retired, it is clear that
Jim is one of the most visionary and ethical leaders of our modern times. First, we will look at
how Jim implemented his vision while demonstrating idealized influence by setting aside his self
interests and gaining the trust of the customer for the good of the company. Then we will explore
Costco s code of ethics that employs Dr. Toner s principles of owing, ordering, and oughting.
Finally, we will explore how Jim s leadership style has impacted me and influenced my leadership.
Visionary Leader
Jim Sinegal was a visionary leader as demonstrated by his departure from the generally accepted
retail business practices in favor of a transformational leadership style that gained the trust of his
customers. Jim founded Costco with the idea that no product would be marked up by more than 15

The Problems Involving Water Management And Resources
There are various issues associated with water in South Western United States and specifically
California that aiming to one big issue is really restrictive. For this paper water structures and
infrastructure were selected as a focus point, however it must be stated that it there s
interconnection among other issues such as environment, politics, history and more. Studying the
past it is easy to see how water availability made population explode in an area such as Southern
California, where savvy marketing and great politics made it happen. Particularly, for Los Angeles

Bob Dylan s Poem A Hard Rain s A Gon Na Fall
Songs can be considered the melody of life because artists use songs to express their thoughts and
capture the moment in time. For over 50 years, American rock and roll artist, Bob Dylan influences
his generation through the use of his protest songs (Rollingstone). Dylan s personalized and allusive
songs revolutionized the music industry by allowing music to be an analytical literature in which
people can debate about. Although Bob Dylanwrote A Hard Rain s A Gonna Fall in the summer of

Hard rain can be interpreted as the nuclear atomic rain that is harmful to both the humans and the
environment or it can be the storm of rain. This line that is repeated throughout demonstrates how
humans cannot control the rain. In addition, hyperboles such as roar of a wave that could drown
the whole world (Dylan) shows how water are crucial to the human s survival, but also a danger to
the human s survival because this wave can refer to the deadly tsunami. The personification of the
seven sad forests (Dylan) on seven continents also allows the listeners to sympathize with the singer
and understand the effects of human activities that are destroying the nature. Furthermore, Dylan
uses natural elements such as thunder that is the warning to rain as a warning to the unfortunate
and miserable future of the world that will be filled with death and violence (Genius). Dylan s
incorporation of god and nature with death also relates to the later part of his life where he
experienced his idol, Woody Guthrie, and himself in near death situations. (Rollingstone) Violence
is another issue that is still going on today and is mentioned in A Hard Rain s A Gonna Fall. Dylan
wrote the song during the Vietnam war and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Thus, this song can be
interpreted as a response to the Vietnam war and the Cuban Missile Crisis or about war in general.

fun, especially if you are a boat owner who loves spending time on the water. It does take some
effort to winterize your boat, but it goes a long way in ensuring it is ready for fun during the
summer. Did you know that you can take it one step further with the best marine wax available?

If your boat is looking a little dull, you can often bring the shine back to it with a little bit of
marine wax. You do have to be prepared for a little bit of extra effort, which is why many prefer to
handle it while they are winterizing their boat or soon afterward.
How to Wax a Boat?
The first thing you will need to do before you wax is you will want to thoroughly clean your boat.
If you are not sure how to clean your boat, you can wash it the same as you would wash your
vehicle. You only need a bucket of water, a sponge, and some detergent. You may also use
fiberglass cleaner or bleach if you have stains or mildew. You will need to work at it and ensure that
it is grease free before you begin waxing.
To apply and use the wax, you will need a cloth or a foam pad. You put it on by rubbing in a
circular motion and let it dry until your boat has a dull haze. Buff off the residue with another soft
cloth that is dry. If your boat is very dull, you may have to do it a time or two to reach full
glossiness.
If you are wondering how often you should wax, the answer is that you can choose how often.
Waxing is a personal preference for most people and it can be done as you feel necessary.
Professionals will tell you that it is something that should be done at least twice a year to ensure

Changing Voting System In Canada
At this time, the Majority Liberal Government is looking into changing the voting system in
Canada, moving away from a system that has led to their victory many times in Canadian history.
Canada utilizes the plurality election system, colloquially known as First Past the Post (FPtP)

Volunteering Salvation Army
Volunteering in America and the Salvation Army
One great thing a person can do in life and that is to volunteer in an organization. Volunteering has
many things a person can learn from that he or she may not know about. Volunteering is something
that people do in spied of themselves. Volunteering, whether on a large or small scale, plays an
important role in America. With the changes in the economy, cities depend on Volunteers more than
ever. The Salvation Army has volunteers that give food to the homeless and a place where the
homeless can lay their head. To understand better the power of volunteers, the benefits of
volunteering and one example, The Salvation Army.

state of emergency for the region, federal state and city authorities moved into emergency mode.
The president directed Fugate, administrator of FEMA, to make all resources available to affected
states and responders. The Department of Energy worked with FEMA to provide assistance to
electric industries and potential power restoration efforts. Governor Cuomo ordered the
Metropolitan Transport Authority to shut down by Sunday 7pm. Most bridges and tunnels were

In all, 811,000 customers in NYC and Westchester lost power in the storm, with an additional
942,000 on Long Island. In total, 17% of New York Citys landmass was flooded.
During the storm, NYC emergency service teams rescued over 2,200 people stranded by
floodwaters. Businesses, buildings and vital infrastructure had been destroyed. In immediate
response, the local NYC Food Truck Association and the Mayor s Fund to Advance NYC
distributed more than 278,000 meals from 32 food trucks to people in shelters. Restoring power
took anywhere from 4 days in parts of NYC to 3 months in the Rockaways and cleanup efforts
included removal of over 700,000 tons of debris and 20,000 downed trees and limbs. By
February 2012, local responses by the city also included distributing 166,000 blankets, 1 million
water bottles and 3.6 million meals with the help of the National Guard. Nonprofits played a huge
role in recovery efforts as well, more efficient to many than the federal government in reaching the
hardest affected areas. Besides the efforts of the American Red Cross, nonprofits such as Occupy

Psychoopathology Of Child Sexual Abuse
The research put forth by Rind et al (1998), while obviously controversial, was delving into other
variables that could be correlated to the severity of psychopathology of victims that experienced
child sexual abuse. While child sexual abuse is a very sensitive subject, I think this research has
benefited the conversation of CSA. There are multiple variables that cause a person s
psychopathology and to blame the mental disorders on strictly one event or multiple events of the
same acts is in my opinion naive. In many cases I think that CSA have a major impact on victims
but as the research suggests, there are multiple factors that correlate to the psychopathology of
victims. One that Rind et al (1998) did not research was the resilience of... Show more content on

Dallam et al (2001) critiqued the sample population of college students, I understand their
critique, that it may exclude the most severely affected, but that was the whole point of the
research put forth by Rind et al (1998), that someone can be severely affected in a clinical
definition of the terms but their psychopathology may not be severe. I think that Rind et al
(1998) were trying to figure out why some people are impacted more severely psychologically
where other victims are more resilient. Dallam et al (2001) critiques the clearly impossible
standard to have one definition of abuse and Rind et al s over inclusion of the definitions. I
think Rind et al (1998) had reason to over include because to leave out one definition of abuse
would be neglectful. Therefore by researching all definitions of abuse, you can find correlations
with the 18 different psychological categories and CSA that Rind et al (1998) had used within
their study. The research by Rind et al (1998) was controversial because it was a very complex
subject to analyze. I do agree that there should be more studies completed in a different population

Gentrification Is The Country s Timeless Struggle
Inequality has been the country s timeless struggle. Throughout the course of the United States
history, there have been processes that have given a certain group of people the upper hand in a
circumstance, thus fueling inequality in our nation. An ongoing process that negatively effects the
lower class and benefits the upper class is called gentrification. Gentrification has been defined as
the replacement of the low income, inner city working class residents by middle or upper class
households, either through the market for existing housing or demolition to make way for new
upscale housing construction (Hammel and Wyly, 1996, p.250). Gentrification is deleterious
because it revitalizes areas where low income residents reside in, thus causing the displacement
and allows affluent residents to flood the given area whilst changing the entire environment from
its original state. In my paper, I will be discussing how the process of gentrification begins and
what it entails, define longtime residents, and describe the feelings of displacement felt by these
residents. How the plague spreads Although a rapid phenomenon, the process of gentrification
initially starts at a slow pace. According to Biro (2007), When low income houses are renovated
they reach a higher quality and therefore are marketable to buyers who can afford to pay a
premium for homes with better quality characteristics. (p. 42) The individuals who cannot cope

Turner, a talented and gifted black slave who single handedly assembled many indentured
servants and slaves into a bloody rebellion against their own masters for their own freedom .
Oates deeply analyzes the events that had led to the revolt in the South from the eyes of Turner.

It is an analytical account of historical details that is acceptable for those wanting to dive much
deeper into the aspects of slavery in the United States during the time period. The Fires of Jubilee
captures essentially the difficulties slaves and servants do in their daily lives, their emotions and
reactions that they experienced toward their masters. Given that the book is a narrative of a slave
s life, there could be a chance that there is a small bias towards the slaves and the servants in this
case. Although Oates doesn t directly say whether the slaves violent rebellion toward their masters
was the right choice to make or not. Oates dislikes slavery, this aspect of the story is clear when he
claims that servitude was a form of controlling races. Throughout the book, Oates aims at tarnish
the slave masters credibility. He tries to draw empathy from the readers by making Turner the
main character in the book to show his struggles of being a slave. Oates points out the oppression
that Turner endures. The harsh treatment of the slaves from their masters and trying to prove it, the
author suggests that it s okay for the slaves to resolve their issue with a brutal solution because of
the problems they faced. Higginson in his article Nat Turner s insurrection , justifies this belief

Foreign Aids And The Third World Developing Countries Essay
Introduction:
As a developing countries Bangladesh can not meet its all demand by own economic ability so
it takes foreign aid for implementing its development purposes. It has got foreign aid for its
several development issues like Jamuna and Padma Bridge. Not only structural development is
implemented by foreign aid but also several long term policy and projects are done by it. But the
effectiveness of foreign aids to the third world developing countries like Bangladesh is a
controversial issue. Liberal economists argue that aids both in the form of grants and loans can play
vital role to the development of any country, if it is channeled through proper biding and use
effectively to the development projects. In contrary of that, aid causes debt entrapment,
dependency, domination etc. to the third world country like Bangladesh.
Some scholars like Jeffrey Sachs, Joseph Stiglitz, Nicholas Stern have argued that although aid has
sometime failed, it has supported poverty reduction and growth in some countries, but critics such
as Milton Friedman, Peter Bauer, William easterly have argued that aid has enlarged government
bureaucracies, perpetuated bad governments, enriched the elite in the poor country or just been
wasted.
Foreign aid both grants and loans has impacts on the economy of Bangladesh. It contributes to the
development works like bridge, roads, highways, infrastructural works etc. Though prime focus of
aid is economic development, aid has contributed to governance,

Although there are many instances where there is potential for growth, here are a few specific
examples: opening your economy, benefits to your economy, taking advantage of comparative
advantages, building partnerships, and increased competition. By creating this trade agreement,
Primaria will open their economy and produce opportunities for growth in investments and joint
ventures. We can see from China that when a country opens their import/export business, that
opportunities for growth in investments and joint ventures increase. The trade agreement will bring
benefits to the economy, which can also be seen from China. China s economy has boomed since
they have become open to international trade, and imports have played a very large role in this
economic boom (Carbaugh, 2010, p. 254). This trade agreement will allow for Primaria to focus
on their comparative advantage, while utilizing s the United States comparative advantage. One of
the United States comparative advantage is machinery production. ( U.S. Exports. Where is U.S.

of the United States comparative advantages, so by Primaria utilizing the U.S. comparative

Human Cloning Should Not Be Sanctioned Under Any Circumstances.
Albeit not everybody would concur, I optate to argue that Human Cloning is erroneous! The noetic
conception of someone playing god and engendering life from human DNA outrages me. No Matter
how many times scientists fail to engender a plenarily engendered human copy they still don t
give up to pursue this desired goal. The first human embryos were unsuccessful as the embryos
cellular division ceased after only 6 cells had divided making the experiment a failure for the

The scientist that availed engender Dolly argued that she had astringent arthritis, which caused her
death. But after many investigations and a post mortem examination it was revealed that Dolly
suffered from Internal Lung Cancer, which was prevalent in many sheep breeds. Dolly s breed,
the Fin Dorset sheep, has a life expectancy of eleven to twelve years, so many notionally theorize
that she additionally died of a genetically age life expectancy of six years which designates that
Dolly s was only designated to live till she was six. So to bring my point forward, what would
transpire if humans were cloned? The most immensely colossal worry that many people have in
today s society is that if scientists are able to clone humans, the cloned human could have many
quandaries and suffer a short life, but even more people argue that it would have an effect on the
man and women offering their cells to be cloned.
One of the stranger reasons that I optate to bring forward is the conception of body supersessions
which in my opinion is outlandish and plenarily nonessential. In recent years there have been many
cases of scientists endeavoring to grow a body for someone who has recently been deceased,
denoting the transplantation of the encephalon from the deceased body into the cloned body. It is
now thought of only as science fiction, yet it may someday be a possibility in the distant future.

vastly blamed for the rising obesity epidemic, which as discussed in the article is fictional.
Depending on the income of a household, the age group of the consumers, or someone always

discusses how fast food is often blamed for obesity, but in fact has little, to nothing to deal with
obesity rates. I will be using this article in my research as a scholarly source to show how obesity
rates are not to be blamed on fast food.

was conscious of its past and separated from the urban industrial mainstream that Faulkner found
very distracting. He wanted to accurately portray life in the south and he could not have done
otherwise than to include Blacks among the people who inhabit the lands of his novels
(Glissant, pp. 56). Faulkner did not pretend to understand the suffering and complexity of the
lives of the black community but, because he grew up witnessing their struggle he was able to
represent them in an honest and sometimes brutal fashion. He spent his whole life in the south
and, Blacks lived there ... They were servants in the Falkner family or perhaps workers for the

of how he portrays them still remains. In 1929, inspired by the unavoidable racial intermingling

operating systems UNIX and LINUX, two very interesting and powerful systems. The first is often
labeled as too confusing and unfriendly, the later is relatively unknown to the novice user, but
surprisingly they are very similar in design. A short history of the two operating systems may
explain why they are so similar.
UNIX is a creation out of Bell Labs in the 1960 s, in a project headed by Stephen Bourne. The
idea was to create an operating system whose kernel (core part) was as tiny as possible. The
main driving force, the small UNIX kernel, was that the developers were doing their work on
what were considered in that day to be tiny computers. The severe limitation on RAM resulted in
a small kernel with all the utilities implemented as separate, stand alone programs. Each was itself
tiny, and designed to accept input from the preceding program as well as provide output to
succeeding programs. This process of using output from one program as input into another is
referred to as piping and is central to UNIX operating systems today (UNIX amp; LINUX
Answers! Certified Tech Support 1998).

Chicago School Of Social Ecology Theory
Chicago School of Social Ecology has played its vital role in the development of urban ecology
theory as the sociologists and ecologists from aforementioned school such as Robert Park and
Earnest Burgess propagated that Central Business District (CBD) impacts urban and downtown
planning, urban renewal, urban expansions, housing projects, commercial activities,
industrialization, community development and urban ecological system. Next, the Berlin School
of Urban Ecology also extended the aforementioned theoretical argument when the theorist Herbert
Sukopp elaborated on studying the importance of biodiversity patterns, environmental
transformations and natural changes in the global ecological system, processes and structures.
Therefore, the theorists, academicians, researchers, sociologists and environmentalists argue that
the theory of urban ecology broadly incorporates the facets of other crucial disciplines related to
education, health, economy, psychology, social sciences, sociology, anthropology, history,
environment, biosciences, economy, politics, international relations, geography, urban architecture

In these three scenes from movie Crash, the filmmakers give the audience a better understanding of

long length of shot to emphasize Jean s frustration and anger. The first scene of the clip begins

Redaction Criticism
Reflecting over the content of the New Testament course I can say that I have gained much
knowledge previously unknown to me. In the past I have tried to read the bible on my own and
failed considerably. Taking a course designed on the topic has made it easier to actually sit down
and study the material. Although one can gain knowledge or perspective through self study or
attending church, I feel learning about certain topics can be better achieved through class study.
This way provides a greater depth to the information on topics often overlooked.
At the beginning of this class I did not know much about the New Testament in general. Using the
information provided and completing the assignments has given me a wider understanding of how
to interpret the Bible. Redaction criticism was a term that I knew little about at the start of the
course. Redaction criticism focuses on adaptations to literary content from the past (Van Seters,
2003, pg. 487). In the future when I read passages I will be careful to realize that the content may
have been altered to fit the people of that time in an effort to help them gain a greater
understanding. In other instances omission or inclusion may have occurred at the hands of a third
party. Paul had a dictated many of his writings to a secretary (Harris, 2014, pg. 388). The role that
women played in the growth early Christianity was surprising. When considering the time in which
those events took place it common to think of Jesus, the twelve disciples, and men in general as

The Jewish acceptance of their ability to fit into the white crowd became a huge problem for
blacks. Considering the history of blacks and the history of Jews, there are some commonalities.
First of all, would be that both groups are minorities. Second, both groups of people have been
victims of oppression throughout their existence. However, for those Jewish survivors of the
Holocaust, they were able to escape their sorrows and migrate to the United States for a better
life. For African Americans, this wasn t the case. Where were they to run to post slavery? They
were stuck in their place of misery that lasted for years and the only thing they could do was hope
for better days in the country that hurt their race. There were very different views on the idea of
whiteness . In Jane Anna Gordon s What Should Blacks Think When Jews Choose Whiteness? An

have opted to become white. Assuming that most blacks at the time were ignorant to the actual
history behind Jews, they felt like they were just choosing whiteness and genuinely wanted to

Summary Of Amy Tan s Joy Luck Club
In the Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan magnifies the elements of how people view postmodernism and
uses her own depiction of the world to explore the connection between the Chinese mothers and
their daughters. Throughout Tan s novel, Joy Luck Club utilizes fragmentation, the breakdown of
plot, character and themes into small or separate parts by connecting four main sections told from
the viewpoint of four Chinese mothers and their Chinese American daughters. All of which sections
revolve around the theme of making sense of their identities, influenced by the generation gaps and
relationships between between the Chinese parents and their children. Through this message, Tan
offers the reader an understanding of the Chinese historical context by combining these sections
from different perspectives through the usage of a postmodern convention that challenges the
boundaries between traditional thinking and modernism. Throughout her novel, Tan exploits the
aspects of fragmentation, to explore the novel s search for identity, while highlighting differences
between the cultures of America and China. When comparing China to America, arranged
marriages were common practice especially for families to rise in power or money; in contrast,
this practice is absent in American culture. Those affected by this practice, felt unhappy with their
loveless marriages because they were unable to make their own decisions. Before Lindo Jong had
moved to America, she found herself in this similar

hooks compared the Jazz/Blues generations to the modern day Rap/Hip Hop generation on each

mantra of Keeping it Real , in her book she stated, Patriarchal hip hop ushered in a world where
black males could declare that they were keeping it real when what they were really doing was
taking the dead patriarchal protest of the black power movement and rearticulating it in forms that,
though entertaining, had for the most part no transformative power, no ability to intervene on
politics of domination, and turn the real lives of black men around. While the patriarchal boys in

Biblical archaeology is defined as a sect of archeological studies that refers to the study of lands
found in the Bible and their history (biblicalarchaeology.org). The firsthand goal of Biblical
archaeology is to prove the authority of scripture through providing concrete evidence that the Bible
lines up with accepted geography and history. The JerusalemSiege Tower shows the accuracy of
what was described as historical events in the Bible. The Pool of Siloam is found in John 9, and
proves that the places that Jesus spoke of while performing miracles really existed, and still do.

(Shanks, 86 87) Two archaeologists, Ronny Reich and Eli Shuckron, were excavating in the area of
the Gidhon Valley, at the outset of the tunnel. While digging in the kings garden, Shuckron noticed
two steps in the ground, and after getting clearance from the Israeli Antiquities Authority, they
began to excavate that area, discovering the true location of the Siloam Pool. (Shanks, 88)
The Pool was then identified to be a trapezoid shape and around 225 long, with steps on the at
least three of the exteriors. Archaeologists were also able to identify that the pool went through
two phases, and that the stone steps were a part of the second phase. In the first phase, the steps
were actually plastered, not stone. They also found coins inside the plaster, which dated back to
the assumed first phase of the pool. The coins were all dated back to the era of the Jewish king,
Alexander Jannaeus, who would be succeeded by Herod the Great. Therefore, archaeologists can
conclude that the pool was developed the late Hasmonean period or early Herodian period.
Excavators also found Second Temple pottery, which had all been finished in the Roman
destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, and coins from the First Jewish revolt against Rome, which
lasted from 66 to 70 AD. With this knowledge, archaeologists could conclude that the pool was in
use until the end of the revolt. The pool eventually disappeared under

Relationship Between Low Income And Poor Health
In their article Evidence on the Relationship between Low Income and Poor Health: Is the

their findings of research they found doing a study conducted in two British longitudinal datasets to
examine the longer term influences of income on health within a life course perspective . They
dive into the findings of questions such as what roles does childhood poverty play in...acquisition
of health capital? In their findings they discuss that childhood poverty is strongly related to both
educational and health attainment (389). While their article does go on to explain the longitudinal
studies conducted, they found that none of the studies deals with the issue of indirect selection, i.e.
the fact that income and health might be jointly determined by the same prior experiences or
characteristics . Which to be able to understand any correlation it is necessary to know the
individual s circumstances in childhood and not just their adult life. Their findings focus on the

The Importance Of Chemical Communication
Chemical communication is the detection and recognition of chemical signals released by other
organisms. The chemicals that are released are known as info chemicals and can be directed
towards organisms of the same or different species. Info chemicals can be detected by more than
one species and the detection of info chemicals is through olfactory and gustatory organs. The
utilization of chemical communication is vital to the survival of aquatic organisms due to the
nature of the medium which they are surrounded by; water. Over the past century, the rise in large
scale industrial activity such as mining and metal processing has leadto an explosion in human
productivity. However, the repercussion of this expansion is the disruption of global habitats,
resulting in the contamination of freshwater environments by heavy metal pollutants. The level of
pollution by heavy metals is further escalated by factors such as acid rain which increase the
erosion rate of metals thus leading to the introduction of more heavy metal pollutants (Tchouwou et
al. 2012). Heavy metals are classified as metals that are significantly denser than water. Within this
group of heavy metals, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead, and mercury are among the most critical
for their toxicity to a wide variety of organisms at low concentrations. However heavy metals such
as copper which are widely used in technological appliances can also affect aquatic organisms.

Weaknesses The airline industry is extremely competitive and there are constant struggles to
maintain a low cost fare that can compete with other companies such as JetBlue and Southwest.
This has proven to detract from Delta s success throughout the years due to continuous attempts at
market strategy and low fare subsidiaries. Delta had a bankruptcy scare in 2005 and made a filing
with the U.S. bankruptcy court for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The plan for Delta was to continue with
its normal operations while simultaneously undergoing corporate restructuring. At the time, Delta

Idaho Swimming Research Paper
The Sanctioning of Swimming in Idaho My senior paper is a subject that has been a part of my
life for as long as I can remember. It is something that I ve loved from the very beginning all the
way to the very end. I m taking about competitive swimming. But I m going to be talking about
something different with swimmingthat s probably not expected, I m instead talking about getting it
to be a sanctioned sport in Idaho. See, swimmingin Idaho is not considered a real sport, but instead
a club, and personally, I wanted to see swimming, the activity that I ve loved, become a legitimate
sport for future generations of kids to enjoy. This paper covers the main reasons why I wanted
swimming to be a sanctioned sport, the steps it took to get it sanctioned, and finally, actually
making it a sanctioned sport in Idaho this year. This paper begins with my own existing knowledge
of swimming, followed by questions that I wanted to find out in my research that were answered in
my paper. It then gets into my research and what I found out while conducting my senior paper.

to become a more popular sport in this state. I also realized that swimming followed a lot of the
same regulations that other sports in the state did that were already sanctioned. Such as, having
equal opportunity participation for both boys and girls. So, I knew personally what I had to do
you make sure the friends that I made on the team got what they deserved. And when I heard that
they were going to make the vote to sanction swimming this year, I knew that I had to pursue it so
that the future generations of swimmers could really enjoy swimming as a real sport as much as I

Children Tend To Idolize Older People In Their Minds. Whether
Children tend to idolize older people in their minds. Whether it is a sibling, teacher or parent,
they cannot wait to be older and grow up just like that person. In the child s mind, that person is
perfect and a hero. Okonkwo, from the book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, was a great
warrior and powerful man. He was a father and husband to many and the great leader in the
community. On the other hand, Oedipus, from the play Oedipus is King by Sophocles, was the
king of his own land. He also had a loving wife and two children who admired him. In literature,
both men were great and were written about because people saw them as heroes. The definition of

He was not courageous either. He kills people because he is scared not as an act of courage. At
the end of the book, he kills himself which is not a courageous act. The people were asked by the
missionaries why they left Okonkwo s body hanging and a man responded, It s an abomination
for a man to take his own life... a man who commits it will not be buried by his clansmen. His
body is evil, and only strangers may touch it (207). A king who is adored by all his people is
hard to find, but Oedipus was loved by everyone. He was kind and wise. He treated his family
with care and truly loved his children and wife. Within the book, the chorus would mention how
he was loved by everyone and he cared enough for even the poor. Oedipus even told the people
that he loved the country more than they did and that the weight of their problems were greater
on him because he felt personally responsible for everyone s problems and would do anything to
help. He was thought to be foreigner to the land and yet when he saved it from the sphinx it
became his home land. The people of the land admired him because he saved them because he
answered the riddle and saved the whole town from destruction. When the people were upset that
there was a curse on the land because the old king was murdered, Oedipus was willing to go to
great lengths to ensure the safety and peace of the people by

Harrison Bergeron Hero
Harrison Bergeron
In Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, a society set in the future is controlled by a
government who claims to make all people equal, when in reality, they are filled with
corruption. Harrison Bergeron, an elite young teenager, sees the malfeasance in the government,
and decides to stand up for the greater good of the nation. In order to do this, Harrison removes
all of the handicaps placed on him by the government and reveals it to the world on live
television, eventually being shot and killed. Many people may see Harrison as a threat to his
society due to the unnecessary chaos he caused. However, because he sparked the idea of rebellion
in a civilization desperate for freedom, Harrison Bergeron can be considered a hero to society.
Harrison s actions of can be described as heroic due to the fact that he attempted to revolutionize
the society in a way that benefitted the population as a whole, not just himself. Many other
people were angered and confused by the idea of handicaps, and by standing up to the
government when all other people were afraid to do so, he acted in a selfless manner, a
characteristic of a true hero. An example of another person doubting the intentions of the Handicap
General can be seen at the beginning of the story, when George, Harrison s father, realizes that it is
unfair to place the hindrance of a handicap on a ballerina. On page 2, the text states, George was
toying with the vague notion that maybe dancers shouldn t be

The Pros And Cons Of Virtual Communities
The internet and generally the web, have an increased interest in studying communities. It seems
that it is important how they act, what is their purpose and how companies can take benefit of
them. Software companies have tried to create groups of users which have been tested with new
programs and experimentations. These experimentations have led to the creation of online or
virtual communities in the early years of the internet. Online communities have been characterized
in the first place as spontaneous events that provided communitymembers with knowledge, opinions
and experiences with other users. The increase in computers and the access to the internet have led
to the creation of the first formats of communities that were news groups, chat rooms, newsletters
and multi user domains. The feeling of belonging made communities to work like social entities
that unite users that were looking for support and to exchange information. Dholakia, Bagozzi, and
Pearo (2004) recognized some of the main features of virtual communities. The human desire for
connection has created online or virtual communities. There is a main difference from physical

The Two Methods Of Surface Mining And Underground Mining
Introduction
Mining is what people use to extract minerals and ores, there are two methods that you can use that
is surface mining and underground mining.
What is underground mining/surface mining?
Underground mining is what people use to extract hard minerals from underground some of those
are Gold, Copper, Iron, Metal and Zinc, and many more minerals found underground. The two
methods used for underground mining is cut and fill and room and pillar. Cut and fill is when the
material extracted from underground is then used to fill another space. Room and pillar is when
the ore is extracted in a horizontal line. There are two phases to extracting a mineral using the
room and pillar method. Surface mining is when you find minerals either above the surface or on
the surface in soil etc. The two most popular ways to do surface mining is open pit mining and
strip mining. Open pit mining is when you extract rocks from the earth s surface in open pits, the
minerals found using open pit mining are Ores, copper and aluminium. Strip mining is when you
get rid of soil and rocks above a layer of coal normally and you then extract the mineral, coal is the
only mineral normally extracted using the strip mining method. Mining can be very dangerous and
have been many accidents in the past, if you are mining you are told to wear a helmet, gloves,
protective shoes, padding and eye protection.

Benefits Of An Emissions Tax Or A Tradable Permit Policy...
Beyond environmental issues related to poverty are those that can increase from economic growth
itself as countries become more industrialized, rise their agricultural production, and spend greater
amounts of fossil fuels, the environment often suffers. The challenge facing policymakers
worldwide is to control economic growth in a way that increases its benefits and reduces its costs,
in terms of harm to both the environment and to the free market system. (Dahlberg,2012). This
essay will argue that either an emissions tax or a tradable permit policy can achieve the best
solution for the environment. Booth tax and tradable permits have benefits and drawbacks. Taxes
leave businesses and consumers with flexibility to determine the lower cost to reduce the
environmental harm. Nevertheless, Pollutionpermits give the incentive to develop new technologies
aimed at inexpensively reducing pollution and it is more effectively than taxes.
In economics, an externality is a cost or benefit that influences a party who did not choose to incur
that cost or benefit. Moreover, negative externality accrues when the production or consumption of
a good cause harmful influence to a third party, sometimes these effects are indirect and tiny.
However, when they are large, they can become problematic. Furthermore, in the case of pollution,
usually an example of a negative externality, a polluter makes resolutions based particularly on the
direct cost and profit opportunity from production and

  • 2. Analysis Of The Prologue By Anne Bradstreet Tierra Nick Professor Parker ENG 202 01 5 October 2017 The Prologue By Anne Bradstreet Anne Bradstreet s poem, The Prologue , is about the struggle of women in a Puritan Society. In the Puritan Society, women are held to a certain standard. Women were not able to speak their mind, openly show they were educated, or express themselves freely, because it was looked down on. The Prologue , is titled to mark the beginning of her work. In this poem, Bradstreet acknowledges her role as a woman in a Puritan society, but also makes a brave attempt to achieve freedom from the Puritan Society. Bradstreet is on a mission to prove to the Puritan society that women are worthy enough to do what men do. Bradstreet fights for feminism. Bradstreet begins her poem by acknowledging those superior to her: To sing of wars, of captains, and of kings Of cities founded, commonwealths begun For my mean pen are too superior things Or how they all, or each their dates have run Let poets and historians set these forth My obscure lines shall not so dim their worth (Bradstreet 1 6) In lines 1 6, she explains that she is aware of those who contributed to society, because they have accomplished great things, things that she cannot take away from them. She states she will not discuss them because her mean pen are too superior things (Bradstreet 3). Bradstreet uses too to reference her work as being also superior. She wishes to leave it to them to talk about history without criticizing their worth and the same should be done for her. She adds the word obscure (Bradstreet 6), to acknowledge her lines are hidden using a form of symbolism. Symbolizing that most women are hiding their truths. Her point goes into further detail in stanza 2. Bradstreet begins stanza 2, But when my wond ring eyes and envious heart/Great Bartas sugared lines do but read o er (Bradstreet 7 8). Bradstreet in some way degrades her poetry, just like the Puritan society would do. She talks about another poet Barta. When she reads his poems they seem so great and she envy s him. She also refers to Bartas work as sugared lines referring to his poetry as pleasurable to read. She uses Barta (a male figure), to further clarify how she will not challenge the ... • 5. Under the Black Flag Cordingly, David. Under The Black Flag: The Romance And The Reality Of Life Among The Pirates. Harcourt, Inc.: Orlando, FL, 1997. Part 1: Summary The point of this book was to put aside the myths about pirates and replace them with facts. There are many fictional myths about pirates and their lives on the sea. Many books and movies have built pirates up to be romantical heroes instead of the ruthless savages they were, so this book focuses on separating fact from fiction about life as a pirate. Many plays and books such as Peter Pan, Treasure Island, and many others have used pirates as characters for many years. Many of us grew up watching pirates on television, but most of the time in pursuit of entertainment the truth is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although some pirates were not as barbaric as others, they were all criminals who broke the law. Also included in this book is what happened to pirates when they were caught by the government. If convicted of piracy it often meant a sure death by hanging. Many times the bodies of pirates were hung over harbors and around ports as a warning of the consequences of being a pirate. The government hoped that these drastic measures would help quell the raids of pirates. So this book lets us know that even though pirates have a romanticized appearance, in all reality they were criminals who had their own way of life. Part 2: Personal Analysis This book is awesome. I had the mot fun reading it than I ve had in awhile. This book was very interesting, and it made learning about pirates fun rather than just dumping a lot of facts on you. It helps the public experience the mentality of the pirate. Even though pirates were usually oppressed seamen who turned to piracy, they were still ruthless, stone cold criminals. This book uses a lot of literature and fabricated stories, but the reason for this is because there is not a lot of documentation of pirates. Some facts have been changed around while the stories were being retold, and this is the main point of the book; to get back to the root of who pirates really were. One example of pirate mentality is when Captain Cary s ship was attacked by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The government in the countries or nations usually can not help the people being deprived. After the event of WWII the United Nations was created, including Canada, England, France and others, it was created to make and maintain human rights throughout the world. McCauley Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy November 5, 2014 Instructor: HptFw Rainer Lichtsinn Jim Sinegal In 1983, Jim Sinegal s idea for a new business was a place where there were no signs identifying isles, no advertising, no way for customers to bag their purchases, and before customers would be allowed to shop, they had to pay an annual fee. That business is Costco and during Jim s 30 years as founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), he grew that business into the fourth largest retailer in the country. Looking back on the legacy Jim left behind when he retired, it is clear that Jim is one of the most visionary and ethical leaders of our modern times. Then we will explore Costco s code of ethics that employs Dr. Toner s principles of owing, ordering, and oughting. Finally, we will explore how Jim s leadership style has impacted me and influenced my leadership. After years of studying independently, Faulkner allowed a friend of his family, PhilStone, to assist him with his academic vocation. The first is often labeled as too confusing and unfriendly, the later is relatively unknown to the novice user, but surprisingly they are very similar in design. A short history of the two operating systems may explain why they are so similar. UNIX is a creation out of Bell Labs in the 1960 s, in a project headed by Stephen Bourne. The idea was to create an operating system whose kernel (core part) was as tiny as possible. The main driving force, the small UNIX kernel, was that the developers were doing their work on what were considered in that day to be tiny computers. The severe limitation on RAM resulted in a small kernel with all the utilities implemented as separate, stand alone programs. Each was itself tiny, and designed to accept input from the preceding program as well as provide output to succeeding programs. This process of using output from one program as input into another is referred to as piping and is central to UNIX operating systems today (UNIX amp; LINUX Answers! Certified Tech Support 1998). In order to do this, Harrison removes all of the handicaps placed on him by the government and reveals it to the world on live television, eventually being shot and killed. It seems that it is important how they act, what is their purpose and how companies can take benefit of them. Software companies have tried to create groups of users which have been tested with new programs and experimentations. These experimentations have led to the creation of online or virtual communities in the early years of the internet. Online communities have been characterized in the first place as spontaneous events that provided communitymembers with knowledge, opinions and experiences with other users. The increase in computers and the access to the internet have led to the creation of the first formats of communities that were news groups, chat rooms, newsletters and multi user domains. Booth tax and tradable permits have benefits and drawbacks. Taxes leave businesses and consumers with flexibility to determine the lower cost to reduce the environmental harm.
